Hariz Halilovich was born in Srebrenica. He is an award-winning social anthropologist, author, and a Professor of Global Studies at RMIT University in Melbourne. His research has focused on place-based identities, politically motivated violence including genocide, forced migration, memory studies, and human rights. I asked him whether there is anything happening anywhere in the world right now that, in his opinion, meets the criteria for genocide. And of course, we inevitably talked about Gaza, Ukraine, and Srebrenica. But even considering all the horrors people are capable of causing, Hariz doesn't think we should call them monsters. Why?
