We understand that social conflicts have their origin in the inequality of opportunities for the inhabitants of the country. This in conjunction with the deep and marked differences between the countryside and the city, generate complex conflicts that undermine the confidence and security of the community. Therefore, the intentions of Colombia in Peace are focused on integrating leaders from different national and international sectors. This, to consolidate efforts in the development of specific agro-industrial projects without any intention or political interference. On the contrary, the desire to serve unselfishly a nation that, like Colombia, deserves a new opportunity in history. Colfarmer is the social enterprise arm of an important initiative colombiainpeace.org). A non-profit that was created to promote and carry out programs focused on identifying natural origin food productions in Colombia. That will lead us to support the improvement of the production process and the trade for small farmers behind them, so they could be eligible to participate and receive programs’ for supporting them. Pursuing that these farmers can make a living away from illicit crops, so they can support their families by achieving and maintaining economic well-being, and having a better future instead of choosing to go back to live in a country at War. As a result, through the first 4 years of this endeavor, we have managed to impact 400 families by training them in new production practices of Panela made from Ancient Cane that meet international quality standards, that help them achieve increases on their incomes from US$600 - US$700/year to US$300/month. Panela has been essential to the diet of the Colombian people for the past five centuries because it is delicious and a good source of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and carbohydrates. It id a natural product free of additives and artificial ingredients which makes it the healthiest raw and organic sweetener derived from Ancient Cane. The Ancient Cane juice is extracted from the plant, filtered by hand, and boiled until it is dehydrated. This artisanal process allows the Panela to retain all the nutrients present in the Ancient Cane.
