Episode Transcript
Hey everyone, It's Tuesday, July the twelve, twenty eleven, and you were listening to the Giant Bomb Cast.
I'm Ryan Davis joining me today in the studio with his headphones on.
Citty pretty in his proper chair, black shirts, short sleeves, amused look on his face.
Vitty Caravella, Hi, Ryan, dy Haw's it go with Vitty?
How you doing?
It's pretty good?
Patrick Levick's here yep.
And now I own in our chad.
I've gone down the rabbit hole.
Yep.
Patrick Kappa joining us for his first California Streme this week, and we'll talk about that shortly.
Jeff Gersmon's here as well.
Yep.
That's that is accurate accent.
One hundred percent of you is here.
Hello.
Also here and brand shoemakers here jumping the guns on.
No, that's good.
I like it.
Pre proactive.
Let's do this.
I appreciate that talk.
All right, we're doing it, brad Ain, you doing do it pretty good?
Yeah?
Yeah.
You did not come with us to Extreme this weekend, played newer video games.
You did my house?
What are you gonna buy a cabinet?
Man?
Where backend?
And where am I going to put a cabinet does living room, bathroom later on.
So you need like a name, like one of those things will run like ten thousand games.
Like I put one of those NICs, it will run a game.
Or like if you got like a Neo Geo cabinet, maybe it'll run like six games man, Yeah, or am I not even run at all?
Yeah?
Or yeah?
Most most likely it'll sit there untouched.
That would be the best kind.
I've got three of those.
They're awesome.
It is one of those Immortal combat machine.
No, that one works, I don't have, so they all work.
I just never turn them off.
Okay, you want to buy a missile command machine and really I don't know, maybe i'll give I'll give you fifty dollars.
That's that's pre jailer, right, ye oh yeah, that is just the miss command Yeah, yeah, give you fifty five dollars streams command machine.
I will I will come and get your missile command machine for fifty bucks.
So what happened at California is is what happened at California.
So for those who don't know, California Streme in the Big Classic Arcade Show in Santa Clara.
It happened this past weekend.
I was there, Dave Signer was there, Jeff was there, and Patrick coming for his first year.
Jeff, I think you mean and Dave have gone for the past three years running.
Now the photos to prove it, and it's yeah, he wouldn't do what we do, or at least the fact that we went to the Bennigans near the close enough.
You look at some of those pictures and see the wrist bands for California Extreme, I'm sure that's I think you're the CSI it.
He'd be able to eventually prove you were there.
You're all enhanced, Yeah, enhanced, enhanced chance this area here on his wrist, Yeah, that's it.
That's kind of extreme.
Everyone knows that.
Can we clean this up some right here?
Uh So three years running and it's it's a delight.
It's just a fun time to go.
It's just a big old room full of class arcade games and pinball machines and uh play and everything.
Yeah, you pay a general admission to get in and then everything set to free play and you just it's free play.
But it's also kind of tricky because some of them have like little wires getting out where you have to press a button Yeah.
So it's actually like some of them are kind of it's a game to figure out.
You approach the cabinet and it's like, okay, is there just credits going?
Is it just free play?
Yeah, because a lot of these machines is gonna you have to open up like take you know, the coin slot, open that up, go find a little switch.
Yeah, tell you that a bunch of times you should just not be free play options and older games.
So yeah, it's either that or you know, provide quarters for everybody and then everyone will just steal all the quarters.
So last year we picked up a couple of machines at the show, our NBA Jam cabinet and our our street Fight or two cabinet that are that are sitting in the office now, and that's what it led to.
The other machines.
Yeah, that that you're ultimately led on to video and I going in on his nif you catch a kind of The thing I loved about California Extreme was like everybody there is there because they love the arcade scene and they're not really there to make money off of anything.
It's a non for profit organization.
Everyone there is volunteers.
Everyone that's bringing in games are just collectors that just want to show off stuff to people, and they're there to sell and sometimes move, but it never feels like they're there to rip people off, right.
It feels like we're gonna it's a community whatever.
So you kind of catch that vibe while you're there and be like, oh, man, yeah, this is pretty cool.
It's a feel good thing.
I always wanted an arcade machine.
This is kind of awesome, man.
And finding a big group of people who are so passionate, so excited about this stuff, and so like as an adult, when I walked in there and I realized, Wow, this is suddenly this could be a reality.
It's totally within reach.
Yeah.
Yeah, like these machines are sitting here, maybe a jam for two hundred bucks, Like two hundred bucks is like that's like zero dollars in a lot of ways, it might as well be free.
Yeah, it's like I just need to skip a lunch a couple of days.
What's two hundred actually losing money if you don't buy that exactly.
So at that point is where the mind eventually goes bread.
So when you cross that threshold and you're be like like, ohcade machine, Because when you're a kid, it's like that's you pay a lot of money to pay the brass ring baby an Ricky Schroeder style silver spoons.
I got a fucking arcade machine in my own house.
Don't take me to the toy train Expo because yeah, the whole place clean out.
So then you walk out and I was like, this whole world, this world has now opened up to us, and I we just went on a tear.
The thing is that everyone knows everyone else, so once you meet one of the guys, then they know the problem is right, and then you then you are exposed to this vast and intricate network of warehouses, like throughout the Bay Area and imagine beyond where the fighting happens.
But these warehouses where all of these dudes are just storing the arcade machines, because most of these machines are just sitting somewhere unused three days out of the year, right.
And there's also a limited number of arcade machines because it's not like they're making new ones, so they've all passed around from like these twenty five dudes in their collection of like, oh you've got the Warlords machine.
Now that's cool.
That's great.
You've got You've got Johnny.
You know that's right Bill Bill's old Warrens machine, Like Ed bought it from me and then he traded me Popeyes and swapped him that.
Yeah, so like everybody knows each other.
And then Ryan, you and I just kind of went post show and picked up Yeah, we picked up the bug.
And it was like because what we kept hearing was like the oh, well, you know it's it's not here at the show.
But this guy that's showing has the swarehouse and he's got that machine and he's wanted to sell for this much.
You're correct.
There are warehouse listings of like hey, open warehouse.
Yeah, we have this warehouse that has way to an air.
Kbuchet's coming to check him out and take stuff because you know, a lot of the stuff is so old that it can't you can't like put this in a location like you might have some ex coin op dudes and every crowd there that that might be like putting them in launch.
You know, no one's but like a star Castle machine, you're saying they're not commercially viable anymore, like nobody wants to play.
It's not like a conditioned thing.
No, No, it's very few games that people are gonna want to pay to play, right, Yeah, what are you gonna pay a quarter in a fucking laundromat?
A quarter has changed?
I'm to go to a laundry Well, he might have to live in the city, OK, but you're gonna use that quarter do your laundry act to go play a Popeye And it's true.
The quarter string with some gum and then that works.
So you got all these and I feel like you get this crowd of nostalgia people that are like, I'm gonna buy I don't know where I'm gonna put it where, I'm gonna put it in this warehouse that.
And then I got married and then my wife is like, you need to get rid of that stupid warehouse.
That the storage space, and then the dude's that California extreme being like I need to get rid of these five games I have in a storage place out in Pedaluma.
And then he's like, here, do you want this NBAJ machine for two hundred dollars and then say yes, right, and then it infects the next person where it's like, now I've got three machines that I have nowhere to put but I got him for like six hundred bucks.
Take the pall.
That is how the the arcade collecting super aids gets passed from one person to the next.
What is because once, once I'm a decision to get mine, and I felt really good about it, but then this intense dread, terror and stress came over me, like after the elation of like, yes, I'm buying a bust of Mood cabinet for two hundred dollars.
It's great.
Fuck, I haven't thought this through.
I didn't.
I eyeballed it.
I think it'll fit through my door, but I you know, I can't say there's any certainty.
And then if it's Sunday, so if I go back in a camp in the door, well you hauls closed.
So where am I gonna put it?
Like, oh shit, just just all these woods.
Before you get to the end of your story, plas, let's bring it back to the beginning.
You show up Saturday, Saturday afternoon.
Saturday afternoon, you and you and Katie come in and she's cruising the floor playing games.
I think the first time I see you, you you two are on the bust and move cabinets.
Yeah, yeah, we we have a lot of space in our kitchen and we aren't gonna spend the money to a model because we're renting.
So you're like, we gotta get some sort of theme into this room or something, and you know we're getting married next year.
So like buying our cake came and it's kind of a hard cell, but I was like, all right, well, you know, I'll take her down and like I'll kind of feel out like which games she is enjoying, and then maybe I can make her come around.
And she loves polo games because she's way better at them than I am.
So it's crucial that she can kick my ass at a game because it's just not possible and like any sort of modern game level.
So she became entranced by this busting move machine and like I just let I know.
I didn't push it.
I just let it goes like well, you know, it's three hundred dollars, and she was like, oh, I thought they were like a thousand dollars.
Three hundred is a lot more reason why I was like, all right, so it's been late There was and I heard only about this, but there was a late night turn where you guys were again back, like because so so California stream goes over the full weekend and on Saturday night it stays open to like two am.
So there's you get this two am.
I can confirm that you get this, but you get it's it turns at a certain point where it's like during the day, it's like, you know, a bunch of collectors and families there and it's this you know, fun, very friendly environment.
But at a certain point, the crowd kind of thins and turns and people have been at the hotel bar for a while or just in their rooms drinking, and then so like this this CD late night kind of vibe starts to kind of set in.
It becomes the ark that you sort of imagine in your mind like what it used to be like.
And and then it becomes that had it was some really questionable smells and it's yeah, so we're sitting there.
We immediately like we're gonna play a bunch of more games, like we I wanted to play the it was the Adams family that had a like a bike attached to it had to be running out in order to keep keep keep it going, and but we just were gravitated to the bust machine.
We were drunk, and then it became much more fun to play because it was a little even match.
She was missing some over shots, so I was able to get a get back in.
But then we had a bunch of people that were playing, and at some point someone like made the remark, uh so Patrick stopped, stopped sucking around, is get this machine?
And Katie goes, yeah, stop making excuse this clubbingses witnesses she is officially signed on to this endeavor.
And and you know, so it was two and am it hadn't been sold yet.
It's still the sticker.
So I was like, all right, well this opens at eleven.
I'll put in some calls in the morning, we'll get this ball rolling in the direction.
Because I have no experience doing this, so I didn't I don't know how to haggle, Like I don't even like the guest three in our bucks is like I don't know what's reasonable to seventy five, Like like what's the offer prize?
Everyone was telling keep, don't pay three hundred bucks, Like the three hundred seems really reasonable.
But I ended up having Uh, well so you got all these laser discs.
Yeah, so so this is kind of where our stories started to hit intermingle indeed.
So so you know, a big shout out to Steve Lynn.
I just want to say, probably on the air.
He was He's a an arcade collector, showed up at California Stream.
I guess he's shown in years past, didn't show this year.
Uh, and as a Giant Bomb fan and had had heard about my my laser disc collecting exploits.
And I guess I'm not sure if he just had these or he it sounded like he had picked them up from someone else who was clearing out their collection, and so we got him for next to nothing and was just passing them along to me.
But he's like, hey, you know, come come meet me a California Stream and I'll give you this big old box of laser discs and a buch crazy like really crazy, awesome, like kind of rare shit.
So I was.
I was very excited for that.
Uh.
And we and we talked a bit, and and we learned about more kind of shared friends and connections both inside and outside of the game's business.
But he was very cool about all that.
Also, I was able to provide Vinnie with a soundboard for his Jews yeah, I haven't.
I haven't tried dropping it in yet.
But yeah, thanks so much for for forgiving that to me.
Let's go play some jobs after this.
So I'm not sure how he there's another mutual friend of that basically cook you up with him.
So Chris Kohler over at Wired, like he had, I mentioned I'm looking at this bust Move machine, and and then like I mentioned over Twitter, and he finally texted me like, I haven't I know this guy.
Just just just text him and say that you're interested in the machine and he knows all the people, and so I do.
I just texted this guy all I know.
His name is Steve Stevelyn.
I'm like okay, And I was like, hey, I'm mentioned this bust Move machine.
It's like three hundred bucks, Like you know, Kohler told me.
You know, somebody's like, yeah, you're not paying three hundred dollars.
But I just tell me, are you in that?
We're waiting for for you guys to me as a breakfast.
It's like Katie, are we in?
S yeah?
So so I said yes, And you know, about about an hour later, Texas says, two hundred bucks, it's yours.
I'll start working on transport, and I'm like, all right, because that's the big thing, right right, I had I had not I had thought about me to coming to get one, but I had, like I just had a Honda Element like I it's not really made too.
I'd given you, I'd given you all of the like you know, pre warning stuff about hey, you know it's it is.
The hardest part is it's the reason why people are selling them for cheap is because they are giant pieces of hardware that are a weird It's like the world's most useless refrigerator, right, but like way more top heavy and fragile and and just a awkward to move.
Yeah, extremely awkward to move, always too wide to get into the doors that you need to get them into.
So it's yeah, it's that's the moving them is always the nightmare.
So I wanted to prep you for that part.
Yeah, so I'm so it was the transport.
So so then I met it was Steve, and uh, I was like, hey, so I got you know, I got cash out, like you know, let's go buy it.
He's like, I already took care of it.
So I gave him the money because he had already like again, I'm like this is weird, but I'm like this is really nice, Like this is going very smooth.
It's like I'm gonna start working on transport.
But at that point, that's when the dread starts setting and I'm like, well, what if what if you can't figure something out and I'm stuck with this machine sitting on the side of the road.
I know what.
I tried to call you haul and like I got something set up because I was like, well, it's two hundred bucks, so if I have to pay one hundred thirty for a van at this point, I'm you know, I thought I was gonna pay three hundred bucks.
That's pretty even money.
So so I think I'm all right, but I set that up and then he goes.
He texted me and he's like, hey, so I found this guy with a pickup truck.
I'm like, okay, found that.
It's like, well, I'll just we can use a pickup truck.
We can go to the city and I'll help you move to the arcade counted in and you know, you can just cancel the U haul And I'm like, all right.
If this doesn't happen, though, you all closes at five we have to load at six, I'm gonna be stuck with this thing.
Well, you guys are all leaving.
I'm like, no, I have like no friendly options.
So I will tell you this, and this is the out that you didn't know that you had it.
Thankfully you didn't need it.
But the folks that run California Stream, and I think in part also the the people that run the convention center are fairly understanding to this situation and we'll allow stuff to stay until the next day if you need that, like need that extra time to figure how to get out a lot less stress that afternoon.
If I had known that, Yeah, So that's that's a key thing, is like, because we went through the same thing last year of buying machines and not having any sort of transport figured out, and then basically getting to the end of the day and going like, fuck, what do we do now?
Like the convention centers closing up, and we have we have ownership of these two machines, and oh god, we ended up looking out because like one of the machines we bought, the guy I had a truck and kind of I guess we worked at delivery out of the delivery with that one, yeah, and so like, hey, can you take this other one?
We got yeah, So we ended up getting him to bring us both of them the next day.
Uh.
And so he was like that we learned about this, you know, kind of this this grace period because he was like, yeah, I'm not even here, I'm gonna be coming back tomorrow on Monday to go and actually get the machines.
And we'll also imagine those guys that win some of the raffle things, so we're not necessarily prepared to go ship this pinball machine.
Yeah, how the play we're gonna get that anywhere?
Imagine people coming to like far away.
Imagine like, you know, one guy came from Ireland, Like what if he'd won that raffle you put a sticker on it immediately, right, stickers, six hundred bucks, just something anything at all, please yes, hires the carapets stupid anyway, So the ones I got given away, yea.
So graduation.
So the great conclusion to this story is that so Steve drives me up in this pickup truck.
You know, I thank the guy that I don't know profusely for a lying me to go in his pickup truck with this arcade cabinet.
We get it to my place and as Steve and I are rolling it in wheels on the corner, no, we we had to get we got it big Dolly and like trucking along hangling it.
But as we're rolling it into the gate and I fortunately live in the first force, just like four small steps.
It really was not too big of a deal.
There was this gaggle like fifteen kids that were like eight ten years old, and as I'm rulling this arcade cabinet into my place, and I'm like like, I feel like this is this is a sign because if I had seen this when I was there, because immediately all start going is that an arcade machine?
And I was like, I was like, yeah, I just bought it there, Like you can do that, you can you can have this too.
I don't know what the scene's going to be like in fifteen years, but someday you can live this dream.
What are those cabinets made out of?
Yeah?
Yeah, yeah, a lot of press boards, so they're not going anywhere.
They're not like a deteriorate from what I've seen.
They get the shride to make other cabinets I've seen video Archie, but I'm talking there's no like rod going on or anything like that.
So the material it's off the particle board breaks apart, doesn't.
Yeah, every time you move it, you are you're testing the tensile strength of the materials.
I think the biggest limiting factor are the CRTs that are just yeah wearing out.
Yeah, CRTs wearing out and not being able to get replacements for those.
Is I need to get for the street Fighter machine that we have here, I need to get a new I guess that's a nineteen inch monitor or anything.
Yeah, we need to get a new monitor or or a cab kit might get recapped.
Yeah, but yeah, but after buying this, like like as we're sitting like we got it in and Katie are like wrapping her heads around, They're like, we're thring a beer and like looking like there's a cabinet next to us.
Did you play a bunch of it?
Oh yeah, yeah yeah, but it sort of the cabin and I bought is also it's a new a Gio machine.
So this is the most exciting part to me, in the part where where I feel like Patrick has has done done this the best out of all of us other than Jeff Splitz cabinet, which he paid nothing for.
I haven't paid anything for any of my machines.
I guess that's true, other than upkeep on the pinball machine.
Although you did pay for that street Fighter cabinet, I did pay for that.
You didn't pay anything for a Blitz machine I wanted at E three By being very good at Blitze.
He had already played a lot of Blitz on the Blitzer KDE machine that was in the office.
So yeah, because of that, that that kind of helped his chance pay on another one.
You're having this house and never play, so it's ninety nine at Jeff's.
But yeah, so so Patrick, in addition to only paying two hundred bucks for this for this cabinet bust Move cabinet, it turns out that it's a standard proper Neo Geo MBS system with you haven't been able to drill out the lock yet.
Yeah, no, there's no key to open the lock to get into the board.
So but when I was looking through like the debug menu like it, the way was listed out and it's a slot one.
You know, it's possible that this is a multi slot machine.
So but even even the one slots still say that like it's just the same bios.
Okay, but it's it's not even that, it's even if not the fact that you can still just place those cartridges is very easy.
Yeah, that that is.
That is Yeah, there's there's it's trivial to do that, I would say, which I'm gonna dig through, which opens up a whole new gate of getting into MBS collection because it's so easy to get those individual cards and it can be oh so expensive Magical Drop for two fifties, it's more.
That's more than buyer.
You're gonna you're gonna pay more for one card at some point than you paid for the whole cabinet, because that's the joy over a thousand dollars on a Neo Geo.
Yeah, so I mean you get the MBS of that for a song.
I had the Dreamcast version, so I didn't really need to play that one much, probably like five times.
It's very it's very it was it was like sixteen hundred.
That was like a twelve or something like that.
Yeah, but yeah, there were some games that I paid like four or five hundred bucks.
But but that's the yes, like the MVS versions are, what's the difference I'm so new to this.
Arcades though it's home card like for's home card versus arcade cart It's just a different and it's weird because it's actually identical, like if you can, you can get adapters to play one on the other.
The only difference is the bios on the hardware itself is what tells it if it requires quarters or not.
Oh so, so even with an arcade machine, you can get an adapter for it to play like a home car.
Yeah.
Yeah, but the things that home cartridges are generally rarer than arcade cards, so well, the rarities are totally different.
Metal slug one is like trivial to own in one format, but over a thousand dollars in the other or something like that.
As far as I don't so, I maybe my magical drop for tuber than two fifty, depending on how it's sort of well, I'm just just rare.
Yeah, And I'm not sure how the adapter situation works for getting home cards into the arcade.
I know the other way around, it's like three hundred bucks for the for something, but yeah, I don't know that starts anyway.
Welcome anyways, Welcome to the wonderful world of arcade ownership.
So Brad, you know what game would you?
Brad?
You know what?
I'll tell you this.
I actually saw it.
I was so after the show and looking at at at Patrick's hall and and cursing him under my breath.
I started looking at at some local listings and found a pretty decent NeoGeo multi slot for four dollars right now, Yeah, for like four hundred bucks, not far from me.
And I believe that same guy had a clean, clean looking MK two's like but like crazy clean have the board?
Yea.
I bought an MK two board five years ago, you kind of kind of like I bought like an NBA jam and like Pit Fighter because like Pitt Fight was like seventy bucks?
What am I doing?
Like?
I should buy this just in case, in case you ever ever want to play Pit Fighter.
Actually, I bought it about hooking it up to what's it called a supergunnper gun.
Yeah, but the supergun we had was was not wired up for that resolution.
Yeah right right, That's why we started getting all that CET too.
Shit.
Yeah, because that stuff works.
Yeah yeah, the CBS two stuff works.
You just need those Capcom kick harnesses.
Anyway, it's poison man.
Yeah, no, it infects you the most delicious of poisons.
I think v NBS, I think is probably the holy grail I will.
I will say.
One thing with my machine is that I had originally been looking at a primal rage machine.
There was five hundred dollars.
Yeah, and then I played a primal Ragin was like, I don't want to buy this machine anymore, but it's great.
Is that my bust to Move machine was originally a primal razing machine.
It still has Primal rage stickering on it.
So I essentially got a primal rage machine which we got like like near Geo branding and ship.
It's gone through a couple ye.
I just loved it.
I had consciously put away the primal age.
It came back in just a different form.
You cannot defy the great magnets.
Also realizing that the guy who was selling the Primal Rage machine was the same dude that sold Vinnie his Jaws machine, so oh yeah, yep, ye same dude.
So so what are the what are the MVS cards you go for?
Like top five?
Most don't, I don't know.
Jeff and I both owned a number that if you want to just I'll just take them out.
And what was the one the guys are telling me The puzzle game with the money Puzzle Exchanger, which I kind of hard to find.
Jeff has a copy.
I bought that in Japan.
It ended up cost me a little bit.
Yeah, but it was worth that.
I think that was like two hundred bucks, but it was just worth it.
This game is amazing.
It's like anime girls changing money into higher quantities of money.
Great puzzle game.
It's great, it's great.
It's available, you can get the It's one of those ps imports that they do on PlayStation Network.
Oh really, because it came out on the Japan.
Yeah.
Money Idle Exchange, I think is what they listed as there.
But I always his name.
I always knew it, his money puzzles change.
We well, now now that Katie we have this Sarca campus, she has a theme.
She's not gonna start turning the kitchen into a bar.
So eventually we're gonna get it set up with a with the white boards.
We're gonna be doing, you know, like bust move cash games in my place.
So there will be a welcoming party once once that is a little more established, and maybe that's when we'll have the carts brought over and we can see what it does.
So suffice to say, you had funny California this weekend.
Well, I'm exhausted though, that is it's hiring.
Yeah.
I spent I think me and Dave spent like five hours on Saturday sitting by the pool drinkings.
And it was like mid day, like two to eight or something like that.
While you were doing that, I was sleeping in my hotel room.
Yeah, so you know, that's that's how I kind of kept it from from getting on top of me too much.
It was, you know, copious breaks for beers.
Oh, I slept a lot.
It was so good though.
I didn't regret it at all.
You just disappeared for a long time.
Yeah, I said.
He takes like, what are you doing for dinner?
And she's like nothing for hours.
Well, it's definitely like something happened.
So I was.
I was awoken by the fireworks going off at at Great America at about ten, which ten ten pm, bad time to wake up from a nap, bad baby.
He's like, oh no, it's super dark and laid out, and I'm just waking up all fuzzy aheaded.
So I think that's right around the time of me and day, We're finally like, man, we should probably get something to eat.
Just get a whole ryme yep.
And then it was like all right, hot dog run and then after hot dogs, like, guess what, I'm going?
Right the fuck back to sleep?
That was pretty good, Like twelve hours asleep that night.
It was amazing.
I haven't gotten that much sleeping forever.
I loved it, loved it to death.
It was great.
Weekend a balcony.
Next weekend, California Sleep Extreme Mastress Convention.
Are you are you?
Are you able to share your Twitter story?
What was my Twitter st Oh?
Okay, sure, yeah, I'll share this one on what the fuck?
I guess I really got nothing to lose here, so the crowd that comes to California Extreme.
Oh.
It's also worth worth noting that in the convention center that that this was happening in, which was attached to a hotel, and I was staying at that same hotel, although Jeff, Dave, and Patrick all had to stay at the Hilton across street because the Hyatt had sold out, which which was strange to me.
Yeah, I was just I had never seen a book up like that during Californying stream.
But I found out a few days in advance that oh, there's also gonna be a Jehovah's Witness convention happening in the convention center.
At the same time, it's like, okay, well that's clearly what's what's filling the place.
Wildly different crowds.
Yes, the Joe's Witness people.
You did not confuse the two Joe's Witness people.
Well dressed and didn't smell bad.
Everyone's super nice on all sides.
Sure, but but yeah, from from a from an appearance perspective, easy to spot the Joe's Witness people in the California Stream people.
Anyway, at one point I think this was uh, this was Sunday, Saturday.
It felt like it felt like it was a longer period of time, but yes, it would really everything happened on Saturday.
Yeah, right, right, you're you're right, you're right.
Yeah, but midday, midday Saturday, went back out to my room, uh, fifth floor, get off the elevator, and am just immediately slammed in the face with the overwhelming smell of pot just just bare wanna smell, just like I'm like, it might as well be someone blowing it directly into my face.
Like that's how strong it is, Like it's right there.
It's it's not like like you could smell kind of like the weird perfuning smell of the hotel intermingled with It's like, no, this is the only smell coming right like those hot boxing the fifth floor of this hotel, Like it has to have been like you know, you walk out of the elevator lobby into like the floor and there's the hallway goes left and right from there and there's like maybe like five or six rooms kind of like right in that basic area.
Like it had to been one of those rooms because it was just right there in your face.
No towel under the door, No to like put the towel under the door and crack the window.
It's like just amateur hour or they just didn't give a fuck.
Uh.
It's worth noting this is not the first time that I've experienced this at that high at during California last year.
Definitely last year had the same thing.
Was like when we first walked in and to get our rooms, it was like, oh, hey, California streams happening.
If you got smoking, if you got them bro.
Yeah, definitely the mentality amongst certain convention goers.
Anyway, I get back to my room and I thought, hey, you know, I'll tweet about this, just give give some folks a little sense of the flavor here at California Extreme, to say, hey, fifth floor of the Higher Reasons seeing Santa Clara stinks like marijuana.
Good job, keep good looking out at California Extreme.
And then I believe at that point I do nap, and then I wake back up and look at my phone and realize that I have been repplied to by uh.
I just want to just pull out my phone so I can just verify the exact verbiage here.
This is this is the magic of the Internet and Twitter and not realizing the consequences of just saying things and people having alert set up for certain keywords.
It's like I wrote to Apple at one point, I said, I'm here at the Applebee's.
It's this or suicide.
Like the Applebee's account wrote back to me like what.
I was like, No, what's wrong, I'm just talking shit about Applebee's.
It wasn't That was not the exact me.
He was like, what's wrong with that?
Like totally oblivious to me just go like, God, I want to kill myself instead of eat your food.
But you're open lates the only out here.
Oh oh oh, this might take too long to find.
Oh here, it is all right from the account at Hyatt concierge at Taswell.
That is horrible.
I wanted to let you know.
I have contacted the mod and they are sending security up to the fifth floor.
You busted sound get Oh my gosh, it just gets stitches.
Totally.
I totally narked out some poor harmless pot smokers.
Like I not the outcome that I would have wanted at any point.
But it's great because you said, like the fifth floor, you gave them the house, gave them everything.
What is the mood the manager on duty?
Okay, what are they gonna do you?
I hope nothing happened.
I hope I hope that no one got ejected or you know, get worse A stern talking to I mean, you can't really what are you gonna sniff it out and find?
You can't pinpoint the room and then they don't have to answer the door.
Right.
Yeah, they're probably still and they were probably not even there at that point, but still I effectively knarked out nar don't so don't tell me anything.
Ever, that's what's gonna happen, at least with no identifying markers.
Hey, Vinny, do you want to do some cocaine later?
Don't tell then, I just kind of want to you that for rants are tweeting random show.
Yeah, that was the other fellow that I had.
Is just started.
Man, I'm at the Sheridan and his fucking white powder all over the floor here.
This is third floor.
It's kind of fucked up.
I don't know why this naked guy is taking a dump in the middle of the third floor of this high in Boston, but I'm not very cool with that.
Third floor of the Nakati applies its bullets everywhere, just fucked up Twinkie rappers and ship.
Is there a live raccoon in the lobby of your holiday in on the seventh floor rooms?
It seems kind of weird.
Yeah, that's that's the fun part, is when you just start fucking with other I'm on the fourth floor, but I have friends that are up on the seventh floor.
There's just blood oozing out of twelve that they marryout here on period seven.
I'm not really sure what that's about.
I'm hungry, that's right in.
Yeah, oh, this is just an innocuous whatever day, trolling out there.
Great dinner tonight.
But then I got back to discover that the hotel room next to mine, he's on fire.
There's a trail of toes leading into the supply camera regency.
Anybody want lunch?
So yes, that was that was my unfortunate accidental discovery.
Yeah, so just know, just know that there are brands watching me or every goddamn move on Twitter.
Yeah, that social media is really scary.
Yeah, did you reply to it?
It's just like, you know, so it's out there doing that, Jamie Kennedy's out there doing that like it's it's yeah, there was there was no hashtagging or like adding like it wasn't like hey I'm trying to get high.
It's attention over here, or wasn't like at the highest No, no, no, it was just I just typed in higher regency in Santa Clara fifth floor, bring gun real non description.
H I definitely unknowingly, unwittingly gave them released specific in retrospect, Well, you know, in retrospect, that's on me, that's true.
I'll say the silver.
Yeah, you know what, I'll take that.
At least they're looking out though, they're trying to give you the best hotel.
You know what if that bothered you, Yeah, absolutely absolutely, And you know if they can't the Hyatt can't parse out like sarcasm or irony from fucking Twitter, they just have to take all that.
There's a hotel chain.
That's nuts, not a human exact Johnny.
It's not Johnny Hyatt out there looking at the account.
I want to check into any rooms under the name Buds smoke up for twenty arcade Kings.
So that's that's if he's on the fifth floor, find him.
Just watch Billy Mitchell after that other Twitter account that says just smoked out the seventh Flora.
Oh no, put two and two together.
Find these guys.
Man, I'm just gonna start.
My room's real small here at the we're in man and McCAT farted it.
It is, Jeff, you identified it and correctly so as the creepy, weird, scary part of social media is the like improving your customer service by just publicly bitching about stuff on Twitter.
Yeah it's I don't like doing it.
Yeah I did it a couple a couple of weeks ago.
Yeah, for what I had ordered like the Beastie Boys album online and never got any kind of email anything about whether the order had been processed and had like got charged by PayPal.
But never They're supposed to immediately send a download code that I never got and all this stuff.
So I waited like three weeks.
I waited like a week and then wrote in and said, like, you know, there's a email address on the PayPal receipt that said where to right too, So I wrote to that address.
Didn't hear back as a company it's like a fulfilment company that is, you know, it specializes in doing this.
And then waited another couple of weeks and wrote on Twitter again minus to stop payment.
Dispute this PayPal charge to company name because they won't respond to my emails about this stuff.
And then like five minutes later, someone goes send an email to this address, He'll escalate it for you.
And so I wrote to that guy and then he just kind of snis broke back, like that's not our customer service address.
Uh, you should have filled out this form, And I said, well, the receipt I got from PayPal has this address on it, and then I received a ticket number in response.
So if that's not the right address, you were doing a very good job making it look like it is the the right channel for for that.
And it got taken care of like within like two hours after that, and it's it's just check my cloud.
Yeah.
At some point I feel like it's just like I'm using whatever follower number I have to to bully companies around and I hate that feeling.
Uh, And I but I got my down code, but as I was writing it, it's I almost didn't send it like I wrote it out, just going like, oh, here what I'm doing right now, eating a sandwich, trying to try to think stuff?
Yeah, frust to writing yes, yes, Like the Twitter message is just like what's frustrating you right now?
Yeah?
We should we should just all make a Twitter account that's like, you know, bitching a ship that we all just share and everybody follows.
And it's like, I'm just gonna write a tweet says like, you know, Comcast fucking sucks.
They're charging me way too much.
I don't think they responded anymore, because that's what everyone says on Twitter is just this NonStop fuck Comcast.
Those guys are asshole.
Same thing.
Yeah, but I'm at AT and T.
But I was also writing about my how I'm probably gonna switch to Comcast pretty soon because my current ISP just doesn't have enough speed.
And it's like a great local ISP, like they're awesome, but they just they don't have the speed.
And like the CEO of that ISP like responding said, yeah, you gotta go where the band with this, I totally understand no our feelings.
And I was like, yeah, are you expanding soon?
He said, not not in your area immediately, but you know, like I will go back to them as soon as they offer a high speed service, but don't they just don't have it right now.
It's funny because this is actually this will be the second time I've left this ISP.
The first time was because they didn't have dial up numbers in my town and I was spending like one hundred and fifty bucks a month calling into their dial up.
Uh, that's a long time ago dial up modems.
So the Internet like like you know, like LaserDiscs pet you know, PEPSI has an account and they write things like asking like trying to get you to engage with their brains.
I just wonder who follows those accounts, Like I sort of get why they respond to people when they have like keywords searches set up, right, But who is following pepsi?
Yeah?
Like and they're posting stuff like they're trying to engage people, like, hey, it's summertime.
What are you doing to beat the Like who the fuck's going?
Like, well, pepsi, I'm trying to stay high school pepsi?
Pepi?
Yeah, fucky car rules from the RC account not drinking pepsi?
Sh what are you talking?
RC Cola doesn't own computer.
That Coca Cola Twitter account has like three times as many followers as Pepsi.
That's how That's how far down this I went, like a couple of weeks ago.
It's like sitting there stair to this going, Man, that's a fuck.
That's a bumber.
Like when when companies sign like when they post things on Twitter and then sign it with the person's initials, who's answering who's responding?
It'll say, like, you know, like I'll care at sim We'll say k K, who's that?
I don't know?
Sometimes yeah, sometimes the list who it is on some other page somewhere that you're supposed to go care about.
And I was like, what kind of feel like?
I wish you're going to those pages as anyone that's following Pepsi or Coke and just mask block all of them from ever following me, Like I just like eliminate you from the pool of people.
This is an either or proposition here, people, Either you were following Hamburger helper on Twitter or you're following me.
That's it.
I might follow him, Yeah, I wouldn't want to know who's that's the problem.
You can't again, you can't part out like who's following Coca Cola?
Ironically, right, Neil Hamburg Yeah, Neil Hamburger is sitting there following all of the brands and then taking on them every time assholes.
It's pretty accurate spot on Neil Hamburger impression both in content and zone.
Hey you yeah, be careful.
So just know that they can go the great way that it went for Jeff, that you can get your your customer service needs met and you'll feel dirty about it, but at least you got your customer service needs met, or it goes my way and did not mean for those to be your customer service needs but they got met anyway.
I like the thing I did, the Applebeast thing.
I felt kind of bad about it because it just meant someone was sitting there like looking at that.
What can I ride back to try and like salvage this potentially disastrous situation because this is because this is my fucking job, sitting here and monitoring this Twitter feeds my job and I can't decide if this guy who was, you know, writing about killing himself in the same breath as Appleby's as kidding or not.
So how do I ride that fence?
I got really and actually I worried in that situation because I'm just like, man, it wouldn't take much to figure out that I live where I live right and like work backwards and like you know, like a manager might appear alongside me and sell I understand, fine, I just just yeah, exactly.
So it's just give me some chicken fingers.
You know what you say on the thing, this is you know what this man is.
Listen, this is all really good because you know what this is, This is real world consequences for your internet bullshit, and and honestly we could all use a little bit of that.
Well, like you guys get those automated messages like like you type about your iPad or something something.
Yeah, like that's the Like it's I feel like it's kind of nice when you get a real person who is like just not trying to like spa ammy with stuff for typing something.
So at least at least I feel like you get all the bullshit and then you get a real thing that'll happen, because I feel worse because then I feel like I'm wasting a person's time.
Yeah, I don't know, Like every time I've gotten like one or two of those where it's just kind of like the weird thing, like it never happens when I'm trying to do it.
It always happens when I'm not trying to do it.
Uh, but usually it's for them.
I don't usually feel good about it because it is something that it's never been Like I'm going to kill myself and go to Applebee's.
It's always like you're gonna kill yourself and then go to Abbe's.
Yeah yeah, you know first and then you know, well, you kill yourself, You're in hell.
So what else would there to do but go to the fucking Applebee's.
Uh?
Eat shit food, but it's you guys have some provolone stuff meat paulls that are really it's usually because it's like, is anybody having trouble with this router?
Blah blah blah, And then sometimes I'll get I think the one I got was like, yeah, email me.
I'm like them, you know, Lynksist or whatever.
I was like, yeah, dude, I can't get this to work.
I am Lynxis.
I have a Twitter account.
Do you follow PEPSI?
I have become sentience makes she just a router sitting in someone's house, striking an ice cold at Coca Cola.
And also it's at Coca Cola.
They don't have coke, which sucks for them.
I bet you don't want to know who's got You don't want to follow at coke, It's that's bad news.
It's hip hop Sensation wan cocaine.
That's when you want us just starts.
Yeah, that's the account you want to troll for free products.
RC Coler really has an account.
They got you, right, Greer Beverages.
It's such a himself man, Greer looking here.
If you're gonna talk a mess about my beverages, just don't eat that dim sum restaurant anymoreantage a fish out A reply from R C Cold to be like, man, nobody drinks enough at RC Cold of these days.
Thank you so much.
You know, hey, I'm in this area.
Do you guys know a store where I can find an ice cold at the old anything that I'll quench my really thirsty you know, sandy first summer summer thirst?
Yeah, man, are you looking it up?
I am, and I'm afraid Royal Crown may not my Crown Royale.
Well yeah, yeah, Crown if you want to talk to if you want to talk to Crown Royal, I talk to Crown Royal all the time.
Bottles here, I'm gonna start collecting marbles because these bags are so nice.
Crown Royal or if you have, if you if you have, keep on the Twitter side, iver played.
I just want to we's got some nuts of bolts or something keeping in this bag.
This is a nice bag.
I'm keep the contest test this post to like my belt, keeping all my weed gear in this sweet at Crown Royal bag.
If you're on the fifth floor at the Higher Agency and Clara, I'm a cut person.
I keep my smoke bombs in this crowd or if you want to talk to the Royal Crown Escorts Service, they they're on Twitter.
But so RCI Cola or Crown Royal Dough from Royal.
She's saying, I can register it right now.
I'm sure it's taking it, just may not be an active corporate account.
Oh wait no yeah, Royal Crown Cola is totally on Twitter.
Great, So there you go, ringing endorsement.
Sure could go for some Fago.
I'm not gonna look up Fago.
Fuck you for that anyway.
What were we talking about?
California extremely extreme.
I played some Baby pac Man and it's half video game half pinball.
It's game is amazing, fucking crazy.
It's weird because you kind of kind of just like choose to make it a pinball game whenever you want to.
It's like, I fuck around up here and you can clear out levels and it it's probably you know, there's some strategy to like whether you're in the video game part or the pinball parts to the pinball parts to turn on power pellets, like if you go complete to get power pellets up top.
So that explains a lot.
Yeah, I played it at the one time.
It's pretty crazy.
It's really crazy.
But yeah, there's just like there are just tubes that kind of the bottom of the maze ors like you go in there and it's like all right, going down to the pinball table now, and then you just focus down there instead, and it's just this weird mini pinball table.
So it's got like flippers on the sides and then enjoy stick in the middle.
So you're just constantly like jumping back and forth, not constantly, but with regularity jumping back and forth.
And the it's a bad pac Man game up top also, which is kind of weird.
It's not a great pinball machine is down below.
No, but but I mean like like graphically, like they couldn't get as many colors into whatever the hardware was that they were using.
So like the ghosts a one color.
They don't have eyes.
Yeah, it goes through all one color.
They don't have eyes, so there's just like a black hole where the eye would be.
Yeah, it looks kind of weird.
It just looks like some crappy home port of pac Man.
It pac Man for the Tryst, but it's it's a Namco release.
No, it's a Midway.
It's because Midway had the rights in the US to do pac Man stuff for a while.
So the baby pac Man, that's like pac Man and miss pac Man's child.
Yeah, but pac Man, but no, no bad baby pac Man is young pac Man, right, But pac Man Junior, that's got to be the child of pac Man.
I think Baby pac Man, I think you're you're asking too much.
I actually I wouldn't be surprised if if Junior pac Man was a Namco game and Baby pac was was midway.
I like baby pac better than Junior pac Man.
Kind of it's too hard, like try to keep track of this giant fucking because it's it's it's pac Man.
It's pac Man.
Okay, it's pac Man.
It's pac Man.
Who is but it's pac Man.
Okay, so it's pac Man.
But the maze is bigger than the screen.
So when you start like going to the right of the left, like the screen perspective, scrolling shittaly to the side to like show you the part of the screen you can see, and it's easy to find yourself like on an edge where it's kind of like trying to like jitter back and forth, being like, oh, you're kind of in this frame, but you're kind of starting to go to the rights.
I'm gonna move a little bit, but then you go back some So what are you using the move?
Okay, your mind?
I mean it's it's pac Man some delicious at r C Cola.
I don't want to drink that.
Whenever I'm playing at pac Man at Baby Pack.
I like Crown Royal and Royal Crown mixing together.
Get a little something something Wow, RCCR Credence clear Water.
Did they have the can I replace all my pinball lights with fantastic?
They bred that Xenon machine was running.
Yes, Patrick, hadn't seen this this crazy led technology and not you know, it's just old and busted.
You look at that, it's like better than real it was, I mean because it I mean the way you were describing me to me, like because it's not the original lights just replaced, like they're actually putting in like all brand new things and it's just yeah, really like it's stands out especially like all like this dank dark room that we're all in to see like this bright and it's next to these other machines which are you know, well taken care of, but they're just using standard in candescent bulbs like a Jurassic Park pomball machine.
Yeah, so it's like it's you know, it has that kind of soft glow to it, and you see Zenon where just the you know, it's got these little LEDD lights for each one, and it's just that that makes every makes every pinball machine look like Tron.
Yeah, Tron for real.
Well, and using Zenon as an example is it's probably a good because I also had like a there's an NBA Fast Break machine that also had LEDs and it looked very nice.
I didn't see that, but they had that.
That twilight Zone machine, Yeah, that was constant.
Well there was the one that was constantly being worked on that had led Yeah, it was only working for a couple hours.
Well it's own.
Yeah, it's ninety five.
So that's like Posts Amusement Park Road.
Oh sure, based on that stuff.
No, it's just based on Yeah, it's Rod Serling's stepping out of a crazy door on the on the back plate.
No, twilight Zone.
I never actually got to play twilight Zone because twilight Zone machines were constantly being used and we're not being used.
They're broken because there's a lot of weird moving parts on those things.
Yeah, which is why I will never buy a Twilight Zone like Medieval Madness, like all these it's highly intricate, crazy.
I mean, it's it's the problem is that, like the things that I love about, I realized you boil it down for me too.
You know two things that I need in a pinball machine.
I want a lot of ramps.
I like a lot of ramps.
And I need easy multi ball.
Yeah, because multi ball is the best part about playing pinball.
So the easier it is for me to get to that state, the happier I am with your pinball machine.
The amazing thing you can do is as an operator is you can actually make getting a multi ball easier or harder.
Like on my earth Shaker machine.
You can set all kinds of stuff to just like it's just ready to lock balls right out of gates if you want, and then it'll be way easier to do it.
I like that.
Yeah, guys, what's up?
I need to know about the Beavers and butthead game.
Okay, so so so they've had this cabinet for again the past three years.
Uh of you know, the unre least Beavis and butthead a Tory prototype.
But the past two years, it has not actually had the Beavis and Butthead game in it, and one of the ones this year was running a different game.
So so usually usually there two.
Usually there's just the one Beavis and Butthead cabinet that it is not running Beavis and Butthead.
This year they had two cabinets, one not running Beasthead and one totally running Beavis and Butthead.
Beavis Butthead maybe the worst arcade game I have ever personally played.
Well, it's it's it's not a complete game per se.
It's the best prototype, right, I mean, it's you know, they built a cabinet around it and put it out like for whatever testing purposes, looking location test stuff.
So you know, arguably, yeah, they could have done a lot of work on it, or they said, man, we need to do too much work on this, so we're just not gonna put it out.
It's a really crappy beat him up, but it has a really weird look to it that kind of hard to describe, kind of singular.
Well, it's it's got like two it's got like two D sprites.
Yeah, but you're going down a three D ish hallway.
It's like you're going you're going up, yeah, like like g I Joe.
Yeah, but you're not like locked to the bottom of the screen like Gijo either.
You're still walking around the screen pushing the path forward as any word, or you know, stopping in an area and walking up and down.
But yet so everything is constantly scaling.
Yeah, it's times like it almost looks like video, like not good video, but at times it has this the something about the way that the thing animates.
I thought just looks like kind of awesome but really shitty.
Oh.
Speaking to which before I forget part of my later disc caall was I now own the LaserDisc for Mad Dog McCree.
I threw that in last night and just watched mad Dog McRee for a while.
Wait does it out of a machine?
Yeah, Like you can't play like a bunch of raw footage like it is just you will just watch like all of these scenes of Mad Dog McRee happened on your laser disc player.
Is fucking It's way better than playing Mad Dog McCree.
Does it pause or something or it's just no, it just kind of goes from one scene into the next, so you can just see the whole narrative of bat mad Dog McCree.
It's it's basically like watching the Perfect Game of see all the like weird diversion paths, like you only watched a couple of chapters of it.
Yeah, yeah, that's a show you like the branches, right, So again I didn't get deep enough into it to see how that went, but it was sort of you know, you come into town and then the girl says you don't go do target practice, so you go out to this field where there's posts.
They got beer bottles on top of them, and you just watch the beer bottles magically appear and then you hear like the breaking noise as they disappear.
It sort of like goes through that and like guys, and it's like you're walking down the street and got hops out and then go where falls to the side and is really shitty old western death there anyway back to Beaus And butthead as I have to say about Matt Dug McRee, yeah, uh looked like bad video a weird animation style.
Yeah, and a bad game and just a fucking just an awful, awful, awful game.
Every stage is like five minutes.
I beat it, Kat and I played the whole thing and it took fifteen minutes maybe, so it's about as long as Double Dragon.
The video was was the real actors and stuff as you judge in there making noises.
Yeah, I felt like a bad Simpsons arcade game.
Yeah, but like vertically scrolling and yeah, and you kept all the end bosses are just like really big fat dudes that are wildly pixelated and you're like, why am I doing this?
Well, yeah, it'll be over the weird sense of everything scaling as you're moving through the environments, like there's like a five pixel gap just kind of created in between these art assets or I don't know, it's I'm not sure why they went that route.
I don't get it.
Don't know why.
Why didn't you just make a side scrolling beat them up?
They wanted to get something different.
I guess pushing the outer limits because that was that was the Canami's game with the all the beat them ups.
They had that a lot.
When when was about I had to come out, I guess I don't know what.
Foine four probably was the holographic time traveler game.
There no what no time travel see him much too.
Brad Muror from Double Fine, she grin no mister Deuce Castle dah no, mister do no Mortal Kombat.
That made me upset.
There was an MK three machine that was broken, yeah Ultimate MK three Yeah yeah, And well they did have a someone at a custom build new Mortal Kombat.
Yeah, set up then that people and Boone was giddy about it.
Was happy to be autographed.
Yeah that's cool.
Yeah Yeah.
Ed Bood came out.
He seemed like he was according to his Twitter, it seemed like he was having the best time.
I think he was.
I think he was really really enjoying himself.
I think, you know, he's just getting to see a lot of stuff that you don't see.
And Ed has, you know, a personal connection to a lot of that stuff.
You know, he worked on a ton of pinball games and as well as arcade games that were being shown there.
And I think he had said that it had been a really long time since he had seen a full six player grid set up.
Yeah.
Grid always making a big appearance and always pulling in the crowds.
So we played the grid with with him.
Yeah, he's really fucking good at the GRIZ.
I did outscore him in one of our matches.
Came in a solid second.
I actually had first stolen for me at the last possible set.
He was like kicking everyone's ass and had like a messed up track ball like that sort of stuff.
Like it was just like he was on a less than perfect machine.
Do you think it's still really good ripping people?
You're still really good?
Is it one guy who's got the entire six machines or something you're gonna bring, You're gonna bring hers, I'll bring mine because it's always the full six.
It's got to be one dude just owns six grid machines.
I mean, like, I mean, the last time I saw a grid set up was like Game Works, and that was the last place to have any of that stuff.
So imagine one of those, because out of business, six of those go up.
Yeah, that's something where I feel like California Extreme.
It's like you just wait every year for that to break out, your grid set up because like, because where else are you gonna have an opportunity to set it up, set up your grid machines and have that many people come play, Yeah, and then actually have anyone give a shit about your goddamn grid machines.
Steve Lynne, the guy you know who gave it this and got got my key machine was done when he did his first auction.
But how he got into arcade stuff like he saw a virtual on cabinet, like the full full on thing go for a buck because basically like no, like this guy just wanted like I don't want to have this giant monstrosity anymore.
So the buck was worth their in because it just he was out of his life.
It's I means, it's the same logics.
Where are you going to put that?
The same logical that applies to like why I got a big box of free rare laser discs is at some point the space is worth more than the media.
And it's just like yeah, yeah, this big box, this and most of those movies are available in in you know, much easier.
Sure, and I can probably have I probably have all of California stream on my fucking iPad here, you know, or majority of it as far as the the extra software that's being run there.
So it's like, you know, I have all of this physical shit for what is a pretty tiny piece of content.
Well, and there was there was a guy that like on the on the second day, like just woke up decided he wanted he wanted out and just put went down and put a bunch of stuff that wasn't for sale for sale, like in the misspacking machines.
Just like it's just like I'm just gonna sell free and clear.
Like the empty truck that happens every year is on Sundays.
Some people are just like, I just don't want to fucking bother with getting all these machines back into the truck.
Drive him down to the warehouse, get him out of the truck.
The warehouse is so packed that I have to move like half of the ship out to get this ship into it.
Yeah.
I never touched any of these machines.
I should just yeah, I should just fucking sell all this stuff.
Like obviously what what what?
It seems like what happens?
And it's it's so easy to see the path is okay if you find some machine, for sure, you find Bubble, you find bust a move for for two hundred bucks, and you're like, okay, like there's this one machine that I really want.
All right, I love this game.
It's got you know, big personal memory for me.
You know, it's just you know, attachment to it, blah blah blah.
So so that's the machine that I want, right, But in your hunt for that machine, you keep coming upon like it's like, well, it's it's like a fucking episode of lawn Order where the guys like, well, I don't have that machine.
I haven't seen that in a while, but I've got one of these for you know, two hundred bucks.
It's like the move wasn't a machine I wanted.
It was just the one that made the most sense, and I settled on it.
But it's, yeah, I could see how in the path to getting to like bubble Bubble, which is what I would want, or a pact man, or like a cocktail machine, Like it's like fifty bucks for this, I've got the truck.
Like it seems like that's the path.
Is the like the collector who's like, you know, I love this one machine, and so that's the one I care about.
So I have a warehouse, but then I have twenty others around it that I don't really give a shit about.
But I've picked up through trades or someone just didn't want it or whatever, or I thought I was going to pull the monitor out of this and use it as a spare or blah blah blah, and that's how it's always a list of like I was going to do this, but did this, it seems like, and then suddenly they have a warehouse and and they're big enough where like if like one small thing changes in your life, you suddenly have no room for yeah something.
It's like, well, I used to have a great house and then I got this other job and I had to move down here, and I've got a small house.
Now I'm paying so much for this warehouse space, and like I'm never gonna play these again, and I never played when they were out, yeah, And so then you know, I feel like it just transfers to somebody else who's life is in a different spot where it's like, well, now my life is here, and like I could own too many arcade machines until I need to move.
I haven't turned on any of my machines since Christmas.
It's because some some people were out and hanging out and they like it's it's bitballing, all right, Sure fifty bucks moved.
I feel like I would go for three arcade machines in my life, Like I think I other than the one that you are or the one and a half that you already own.
Yeah, no, no, no, like three total, like that's it.
Don't ask me what they I think you were gonna list, like what your three were?
No?
No, like like three and like you know, that's it.
I think having a good puzzle game is good.
That's why I got mine was because it was two players, like it's a competitive game like and then also the fact that I can swap the cards.
It's like, you know, a on a space for any other ones.
But like, if I'm gonna get one, this seems like a good starter to buy a whole new machine.
I can just did anyone see job on Sunday?
No?
No, I saw him on Saturday night and he had a wild eyed look to him.
Last last I heard, he may have been on a may have been on a bed.
Yeah, in our interns room.
No, I saw him on Sunday, so he's alive.
So I didn't see him at all on Sunday.
That was a little worried.
I don't he was partying with our interns apparently that's what I don't recommend.
And there was there was talks of golden schlagger.
I was gonna say, don't try and drink with Ben, like that's yeah, Like I ran into him, and I could tell that he had he had had some drinks, but like didn't FaZe him.
Yeah, and he was just like, hey, it's still on top of things.
Yeah, okay good.
There was like the four like dudes around him were faded.
There was there was one guy in particular.
I won't I won't call him out, but he was just one and he kept bragging about, like how much you've been drinking.
I was like, here at that point, man, the point where you're talking about how much you drank.
I had six beers and then we got four shots and then there's like full on enumeration mode.
I don't feel it.
I think I'm feeling it.
I get like that sometimes I still get like this.
I was gonna say, though, like like intern bend as you're drinking, partner, Like that's the worst possible one and one.
Yeah you can't as long as you're not Yeah, you can't punch for punch that guy.
That guy's got ten points of blood.
It's got more than you.
Yeah, there's there's two of you.
Yeah, inside him, it just mass not even like it just yeah, you could be sitting on your own shoulders right now.
He sweats out most of the alcohol before he would reach It's like, so he's so tall he wants eight an entire cow.
Yeah, wait a minute, the long legends ben Yeah, anyway, he's like six eight seven.
Now I'm gonna buy another machine, sixty eight, sixty nine.
He's taller, he's he's getting near seven.
I know that's a someday.
Someday he'll be seven feet tall, tall dude, and won't have a real giant.
Yeah that's what you want.
Yeah, so forget these arcade machines.
I want to own my real own giant.
Was using too in big in our videos.
I'm going the gas giant extreme.
Anyway, you find all these sweet giants.
We keep talking about people wanted to have giants, And are you starting at the warehouse starting to figure out what you wouse full of giant?
I'm sorry, I don't know what to do.
They cost so much to be.
I think the the like social acceptable term is big people.
I've seen the dark side of owning too many big people.
Yeah, yeah, we've we've gone down that root.
It's dark.
It's slippery slope, slippery slope.
But yeah, long we talked about this.
The more I'm feeling like I'm gonna start hitting he Bay, and like I said, it was you know, I hadn't done it since like last year.
And once you figure out that people are selling stuff on Craiglist, it's hard not to look when you're just like that was the problem.
That was well, that was what started our post California extreme that people are doing it.
Well then so so then this year I get home Sunday, so California streams still going on, I'm like, all right, I'm just gonna after you know, watching Patrick and having his his glorious run with his his bust a move machine.
I'm like, all right, let's go see what's up on on Craigslist, And like half of those listings are like, yeah, I'm gonna be at CAx this weekend, so if you if you are here, these are some of the machines that I have.
So it's it's missed connections, man.
Yeah.
Yeah, I just want to get that monitor fixed on that street Fighter machine and do some your minor work to that and then we'll see what happens.
All you want, but that's not all that's gonna happen, because I'm enough to get him to get that monitor off to buy a whole another machine.
Your Yeah, your desires are now, this is gonna work out.
That's the dark side.
I feel like that's the part that you and I saw of the cannibalism arcade.
Cannibalism of the Marquis and the border art on that thing are so ugly.
Yeah, we're gonna swap that out.
Yeah, that's kind of easy.
That's that's repros Like that's you don't necessarily have to cannibalize.
Like so much of the stuff is is being like, you know, people are refurbishing and rebuilding these machines.
Yeah, like I need to buy like a new like like a button set and stuff like, I mean, I need I need to do a lot of cosmetic work on my thing and like side art at some point.
Yeah, like finding reprintsive side art and finding remakes of Marquee art for kind of big games.
Aren't aren't that hard to find?
It's it's stuff that's bigg and don't you just get the originals?
It's not even sure.
Maybe I'll just like turn it into a primal raids machine on the outside.
It just happens to have a game.
This is said.
Damn CRT is the is the hardest part because it's just the thing that just define it or to replace this they're around.
It's I think it's it's just got out.
They're expensive.
I think I think they're just I think they're getting harder.
People are selling whole cabinets for two hundred dollars.
How much could have how much could a monitor?
But like, but there's the things that then people are buying those two hundred dollars cabinets just for the monitors.
Like like when we bought that women about that NBAJM machine, there was another guy that's like, yeah, if no one else picks this up, I'm gonna get it just for the monitor because that monitor is worth two hundred bucks to me because you have to find one.
No burning Yeah, you know, it's not faded out and they're not making them anymore.
It's just straight up there's there's a finite number of what happens when they're all arcade quality CRTs out there.
There's no solution.
Yeah, I wonder how if if someone if it's possible to hook an LCD up to it, if that's even like an option.
Eventually there was to be some runway.
It may not be easy but there there is a way.
I mean, you could basically just like you know, hook a super gun up in the middle of that process and with whatever monitor you want up top.
But I'm sure once we reached that point.
But that's something that frequently the version of the arcade people, Arcade purists are just gonna fight as hard as they can.
For last year, there was a joust machine that had an LCD in it that was kind of an experiment like once you're once you're out putting to a modern screen, why have a cabinet at all, Like you've already like sullied the integrity of that experience.
Yeah, like you're I think you're right.
I think that the quality of that screen, you know, is so key to like how those games look like you start showing it with no no that corner bending you know, you know that that blur, Yeah, the phosphor glow, like you get none of that stuff, Like just you all you see is just like the raw output of the board.
The thing they added to Maime over the last couple of months here is like they've they've had scan lines all along, Yeah, they've they actually are now using GPUs too.
You can bend the corners, like just pincushion it and you know, desaturate the image in weird ways of you so there will be solutions.
People like Double Impact had a good stuff like that too.
Yeah, fine, don't buy an arcade machine.
I actually, I actually really like the way old games look on LCDs because I actually like seeing two crazy single picts.
I do too, But at that point, like I said, just skip the footprint of a cabinet.
You know, the original controls I think are part of what's nice about that stuff standing up.
Yeah.
Yeah, there's a certain experience to it, like I think that is that is lost when you sent a couch to the controller and you have achievements and it just changes.
Putting your beer on top of it, I hope it doesn't fall.
Yeah, there was.
There were no stickers on the Tavern machine that can nothing.
Can you drink on the shelf for no?
No?
I was though, Yeah, I mean like you just like no, but drink uh the rest of my bud Wiser white and blue around.
Yeah.
I just I made sure that Katie was holding because it's like they're not gonna tell a female to put her beer down.
Too excited to see, like what are they gonna do.
So I was just yeah, because you know it's it's you're you're right around the corner from the hotel bar, which is just right there, like if you were holding it, they would say like no, but there weren't like people patrolling like a plus, Like I was very careful about it too, because like I, you know, you look at these things like these are people's you know, I didn't go anywhere near a pimball machine.
I didn't, like, I wasn't putting.
I was like, this is these are people's you know, babies and some Yeah, like I don't want to treat it respects.
I mean there was one pinball machine that someone apparently like brought their hands too hard down on the glass and the glass all shattered.
So like they spend like, you know, a whole afternoon picking the glass out, and yeah, I mean you can imagine how that would happened.
And but yeah, and there's a lot of kids there, you know, people that don't necessarily know that you're supposed to be fragile.
So so having the blanket rule of no drinks or food on the floor makes sense.
But it's again, it's a it's an all volunteers thing, so you only have so much manpower, but it's growing, like it was busier this year than spending years past.
A lot of people on Twitter, yeah, a lot.
It was huge number of giant bomb fans there.
Uh so we think everyone who came up to us and gave us a show.
Everyone was super super kind, very nice.
Buget a bunch of very nice folks there.
Although it was weird.
Wh'm standing next to Ed Boone and dude walks up to me like, this is Ed Boom.
It's got made more combat like all of them.
I'm just some dude.
I'm just this dude that's talking to Ed Boone.
What do you care?
Come on, all right, let's talk about real video games.
Vinny, you didn't go to California Extreme.
What did you do?
What have you been playing?
My good friends, my fine feathered friend.
I played some more The Witcher one.
I played some more Puzzle Agent two.
Oh really, how you liking it?
Puzzles?
I've heard people saying that the puzzles are actually easier.
I found a lot of recycled kind of puzzles already from the first one.
Yeah, but I'm not too deep into it, so I finished I made it through the Puzzle Agent one again.
I started two.
Great, right, Yeah, a lot of fun.
Uh so, a lot of so having just played that, a lot of the puzzles are very similar so far, and I'm not too deep into the Puzzle Agent two.
Uh.
And I played on my iPads, So how's that going?
It's great.
I was thinking about trying I've got on my iPad IV.
Yeah.
I bought both of them for my iPad, uh, even though I had the first one.
Right, and all the telltale stuff is really great.
I've heard issues of performance on some of the players and stuff.
Yeah, you get over.
But when I'm saying like I could see this being a game that would actually because of the two D nature of the graphics, that it would actually you know, perform well.
And the way it's got that kind of like sonar pain when you touch the screen thing it works out really well.
Yeah that makes sense, and all the puzzles seemed to work on so so that's actually a lot of fun.
Uh.
And then I spent the most of my time coming kind of not specifically okay, but uh I played Bastion.
Oh.
Super Giant Games is based Bastions.
The Bastion Bastions.
The Bastion.
Uh So I spent a lot of time playing that and made it through that.
So did I.
Yeah, I wish we could talk about that.
As soon as I got home from California stream, I spent the rest of my waking time planning that the bad get through a lot of it based on how I saw So that that was really that was my Saturday, and and most early Sunday was was that.
And then I started playing a little puzzle agent.
I would you know, I'd kind of seen it a little bit here and there.
Uh, I came, I really love the way that game looks.
It's it's it's it kind of takes a little bit to get into.
Like for me, I played it, put it down, came back to it, and then really got into it.
Like once I got the past the pacing, the intentional pacing of a lot of the scenes, I was like, Okay, yeah, I see why these shots are way too long, right, it's all intentional time, like the engine is slow or something.
No, there's no animation.
Yeah yeah, okay, it's stillbile is just gonna kind of dot dot dot dot across the screen.
Uh yeah, I don't know.
I just I love the way that that game looks.
It's and the and the voice acting is actually really good.
I think the voice acting is great.
I think it's some of Telltale's best.
Yeah characterizations.
There's there's just yeah, strong, strong work all around.
Total total run time for both of those games, couple for both well, I've definitely I've only scratched into the first first or into the second one.
But depends how much trouble you're having with a puzzle, I'm sure, and it definitely it does the the latent thing of like running up all like you finish a puzzle, or you submit your your response for your your your solution for a puzzle, and it goes through all of the stuff until the very last sec of like are you going to get approved or denied for this?
And fuck?
So it just lets you build up that tension as much as possible, like oh did I do it?
Did I do it?
Did I do it?
Did I do it?
Yeah?
But it's a yeah.
They're fun games, Yeah, fun games, and they're stupid cheap and they're quirky.
Yeah.
I played a little bit of Aquaria, just the game I bought during the Steam sale.
Steam sale happened Steam sale happened.
I think I owned Steam buy everything in the like the past couple of years.
It was really hard for me to find.
I almost bought that it would attachousand dollars only for seventy dollars though for all of its Yeah, you'd be a fool.
Just I almost lost.
It wasn't all of it.
It wasn't to buy all of it would be actually be still okay.
So I actually I actually bought some weird stuff on this team.
So I bought Command and Conqueror again.
So this is this is kind of this is kind of one no no Commanded Concker e X again.
Yeah, the Command of conquer I bought the Command of Conquers coming out next year.
I bought us what was up for sale, Commando Concker four, Tiberian's Son, and Reddler two or was up there.
But the expansion packs were up there, and I didn't own any of the expansion packs.
But you can't play the expansion packs unless you own the Steam version of those games.
So to buy the four dollar expansion pack, I also had to buy it like three dollars retail.
It was the pricing was really weird, like stuff like Tiberian's Son was more money than four and maybe that makes sense.
I don't know, Uh yeah, yeah, it kind of does.
But whatever, I spent like twelve bucks buying like the last three years of Command and Conquer or whatever.
That was kind of weird.
That was probably the weirdest purchase I made because all those games are sitting on my shelf.
I was literally looking at them being like I physically owned this goddamn CD.
I'm never gonna put this in, probably never gonna play this.
I kind of want to play, all right.
At least the Steam versions are like guaranteed to run.
Ye.
At least there's there's that of like I don't have to go and like try doss box this or just whatever they was in the last three years.
This is the original.
Yeah, I've no, no, I've got the Command of Conquer collection on my shelf as well.
But again, it's were those expansions, so you'd actually you'd mentioned that that, you know, you feel like you've already bought kind of everything on Steam, where like I feel like we all kind of saw it at this Steam sale of like they were back to doing like you know, franchise and like publishers specifically, like all of the two gay games.
It's like I kind of did this the last time this came around, and you've only added like one or two things to this, so it doesn't really make sense still, Like the THHQ pack is like, hey, it's awesome.
You want Whole Front nor all right?
Well Batman Game of the Year Edition, that's not the HQ pack.
Oh right, the th HP pack there's such good like you look in there.
The game is routinely like seven dollars.
Yeah, which one home Front bat bat Man.
That's a great game.
Yeah, that's pretty good.
Uh So Aquaria, I played a little bit of that.
I think I'll play a little bit more and maybe we'll take a look at it this week and some kind of quick look for him.
It's like an underwater super Metroid.
But I just I'm not not digging the art style and in like fifteen twenty minutes I put into it, so well, I maybe I'll take another look at that.
And uh I did buy something else on this team cell.
I can't even remember.
It was just one of those things.
It's like I only bought a bit trip Runner, the only thing I bought the whole time.
Yeah, I got that too, man, it was like Idi.
At some point I tried buying stuff I owned already.
There was like King Arthur pack, let's get that done.
I kind of looked.
I'm talking to Drew about He's like, what's the King Arthur thing?
And I'm like, I don't know, Like it looks kind of cool.
Let you get it, like you own this already.
Been like oh oh, it's kind of bummed out because now I'm nothing about it.
The closer that game was one just caused too was was selling for five bucks.
That game is good on the PC.
Thought about it.
But there's a lot of mods out there for that game.
Yeah, I bet that's really Yeah.
I saw I saw like the Superman mods stuff, which looks kind of fun.
But I didn't pull the trigger anything.
I got nothing out of the steam Shute steam sale, so I dodged that bullet about Terraria and Amnesia before they were on sale, and they immediately went on sale.
Drey is like a two deed Minecraft, right, Okay, it's goal oriented and you have things to do, so it's actually a game.
Yeah, I got it.
Yeah, yeah, closer to an actual game.
Do you find like bones of those are like ruins and bones and stuff in there.
We we did a quick look like it was like castle can make a giant zombies can lose to make a giant dick out of stone their machine guns.
Dick Stone, Yeah, are the hardest rock known demands recently discovered.
It's rock hard, that's right.
Indiana Jones and the dick Stone, not like this penis that I drew on the napkin.
Yeah, left on this dude's car.
Fallast of Fate.
Oh, it's a map to the dick Stone, like the Fallast of Faith, Indiana Jones and the Fallast of Fate, the legend of the Fallist of Fate.
Don't cove any ideas.
That's all I played.
That's it.
Yeah, I played the Steam Sale.
I was wrapped, wrapped it up.
I lost you lost its Steam Sale too bad?
Yeah?
Is that over?
Did they end it?
Yeah?
It's like the wrap up day or something like that.
So yeah, st Patrick, You're just you're just in bust to move land right now.
No, I've been playing a much of Shares of the Damned, which is great?
Is it great?
Start playing that?
Yeah?
Bought it.
Yeah, a couple of weeks ago, like every time I played a student game, I'm like, I really want to like this more than I like this, Like I'd rather just watch someone play it, because like student games have a great style and sent to humor, but the gameplay is just dog shit yeah, and like and nowhere here is too Like the end you're fighting like twenty minute battles where you just shaking this and I'm like, what am I doing?
This isn't even funny?
Uh yeah, McCamy held up his side of the bargain, which I was the damn And it's it plays like R four, like slightly refined, but not like not enough to the point that it is caught up with like what Gears of War did with what sport.
It still feels like it's it's refined to what so Like I really not that I'm a big resident evil guy to begin with, but I really didn't like R four because I still didn't like the controls okay, but Shadows of the damn it at least feels like like the refinements they did make.
It's an evolution of to where I'm like, Okay, I can I can enjoy this?
Ya gonna be like it is it genuinely enjoyable or is just adequate.
No, No, no, no, I think I think it is.
Well, it goes like, is it good enough to keep you going?
Or are you actually having fun?
Like the gun play is the distinction I'm making is are you having fun just through the act of shooting or is it just a means to see more of the crazy shit?
Yeah, it would not hold up without the crazy.
Yeah, would you play this game without the student us?
No, I'm saying no.
But that's also why also end of the Bar as well, which is what all I was looking for.
I was not looking for like a necessarily terrifically playing game, but what I wanted was like an all right playing game with all studas wagonist.
And this is really like studed channeling like Clive Barker, like their it's just weird demonic's sexual perversion all over the place.
But and it also is great because it proves that like juvenile humor can be good if it's well written, like Duke Duke Forever kind of made me feel like maybe maybe it doesn't work anymore, Like maybe I'm just past it and it just turns out like the old Man.
Yeah, No, it turns out it was just shitty writing and and like like weird rape jokes like aren't cool?
Uh, but yeah, and Shot the damn just like really fun to play like rape jokes, yeah, like the best rape jokes in fact, lots of ghost rape jokes, okay, uh yeah, And well you know it was translated by eight four.
Uh you know that Mark McDonald, John Riccardi, those guys so uh definitely like you can you can tell that like the humor that they were probably attempting to go from the Japanese version.
An American person really looked it over and found a way to make it makes sense.
And the voice acting is also across the board.
Great, and the guys Garcia and and every time he gets to a boss, like the punchline is Garcia fucking Hotspur and then it just zooms in his face with this giant boner guncas Great.
I didn't think that they could do themselves.
With Travis touchdown.
I was like, that's it, best video game you that's it?
Yeah, just close close it up, close up.
Shot.
Can't make a better video game character in name than that, but Garcia Hotspur.
So I haven't meaning to get back to Shadows the damn.
We did a quick look of it probably like about the first forty five minutes or something like that.
Yeah, yeah, and it seems awesome, but my worry was that it a lot of it would get into the whole like, oh, you're getting hurt in this area, you need to quickly find the goadhead and light up the area, and that would get really tedious.
Like that seems yeah, I mean it definitely relies a little traveling on that mechanic, but each level is no longer than fifteen twenty minutes, so, like you, you kind of go through it, and it also buries it up wildly, like though there is at one point you go through a sequence where you know, there's sort of like Papercraft looked at has When you're at the level select that becomes a two D sized rolling shooter and you're just flying through the air using all of the same mechanics that you do in the three D game, like shooting these goat heads for light areas, and you're doing it in this two D world.
It's yeah, again, it's all the crazy enough student with like someone that like knows competent game design, and I think if student can it's too bad.
At mccamie now has his own you know that was the last project he was doing with Grasshopp.
Right now he's got his own studio game he was owned by Xenmax.
So but yeah, hopefully if if it is a bold future for student, if he can have people that sort of know what they're doing and shoot the damn is well worth paying because he's like a designer to guest star on all of his games.
Yeah, he's like a guy that cut these an ideas guy.
He comes in, he like he sprinkles the little sudo magic.
I mean, I love that it's called the stud of fifty one joint.
That's it's an excellent it's an excellent reverentation.
Yeah, that's really funny.
And I wonder like what his influence is because like there's also a creative director that was not Suita, Like I wonder what the hierarchy is of that, Like if Suda just sort of like Garcia otspur Go.
Yeah right right, like he's purely just he said I want to be a helicopter and then that was it, yes, and then left.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that game bombed.
So if if you if you are on the fence of like maybe this game, like it's definitely worth forty dollars, she's probably worths quickly to go.
Well, has anybody gotten the impression that that was a relatively limited run?
I saw some message for chatter saying like maybe they didn't print all that many copies because they weren't so sure how it was going to do, and then sure enough it didn't sell that well.
It's also just really depressing considering that, like that when he was doing the a Partners thing all over again, kind of rebooting it like this is one of those games like the Marching Deal that they were like, you know, because it's it's very unlikey to comy and and and suited to come talk about it.
At that point, it was a week game too, like it was a multiplatform week game.
Because this game has actually been my understandings, rebooted a couple of times before it's become the game that it is now.
But yeah, it's it's just a really terrific game.
It's really funny, and it looks gorgeous and not to be the the armchair product manager, but I will say that Shadows of the Damnes a name.
It's a terrible name.
It's just it does not it does not allow that game to to kind of pop out the way that it like put a subtitle auction like Shadows of the Damned Storm Rising Unleashed Storm Rising, Unleashed Rising Storm.
No, Storm Rising Unleashed is already a pro Crown Crown Royal Rising Storm, the Storm Rising Storm Storm.
She just Credence Clearwater Revival Presents, all right, workshop an actual better name for that game.
Garcia fucking Hotspur.
They just got Garcia effing Hotspur, the hotspurker Yeah, chadows are the damn the Hotspur Chronicles.
There you go, the Hotspur Conspiracy.
Yeah, hot Spurs.
How about Boner Storms, Yeah, yeah, Boner Storms.
That's already an EA partners game with bullet Storm.
I'm just Boner I don't know.
Can you put that on the cover.
It don't pull a Boner suit.
Enjoy it.
It sounds more like a board game than Don't Wake Daddy.
How about this pac Man Ain't gonna work?
I like that.
Let's go with it.
Halo, how about that'll never work?
Madden NFL twelve Okay, yeah, that's they should have done.
It's like, oh, we got an NFL lockout, so you know, it's just like in the case the game gets rained out.
They just show mash reruns, you know, with all the football rained out.
It's like, here's this horror movie.
I guess I don't know enjoy play it.
I will.
I bought it already.
Don't let it go in your backlock.
It's a good game.
I will try not to.
Is the last La Noir case out yet?
Yeah, that one's not out, and b I want to say there's one more.
There were four total, right at least.
Well, there's like I'm riding this razor to thin line here between, like waiting for all the dealcy to come out and forgetting that game exists and you're gonna wanted to play it.
Yeah, you're gonna have to, yeah, come back up.
But yeah, but it's it's whether or not I'm gonna play it anywhere close to this voice at this point.
I mean, the way that the case is integrated into the storyline is pretty elegant.
I think it's just wait and do that.
Right, there's there.
It's like the longer I wait, like it's gonna be September and there will be games I'm reviewing again.
That's true, August.
I want to say that I'm gonna try to play nothing in August.
I want to game three August because I'm I'm there's games coming out in Aust.
I want to say there's something up, but I'll put it out here right now, so you guys know, August, Yeah, take some vacation.
I'm not gonna play video games on my vacation.
Do if you play anything else.
I played some Star Castle, I played, uh, play Pepper two, play some Pepper two, play some mouse Trap.
That was pretty good.
Mouse should let Barker, Buckner and Garcia know, Hey, here's a master.
Yeah you know what.
So I saw a lot of that.
I saw a lot of like in fact, one dude at one point, multiple points actually, like I was talking to someone in the middle of the island.
Guy just like walks up to me and asked me, like, where's the baby pac Man machine.
I'm like, it's actually you're just right down here on the right.
And he walks off, and I'm like, I'm gonna go follow this dude, because he was so intense about knowing where this baby pac Man machine was and I kind of want to play some Baby pac Man.
Let's go see what the line is like.
And he was there fucking intensely taking like he had bit his giant DSLR and he had like the huge lens on it.
He was taking just like chronically, he just exquisite photos of like every tiny element of this cabinet that he possibly could And then like he like he gets that and he like pulls out his iPhone and he pulls up some text document.
He's like strolling through it and he spins around to me.
He's and he's like, where's the video pinball machine?
Like as she gets down here, just go all the way down and we'll be on the left.
You'll see it.
They're right next to each other.
And he runs off to go take a shitload of photos that I saw dudes who were, uh, this is actually at the Tron machine.
Yeah, did anyone play that?
I have played Tron, but yeah, not not not on this trip.
It's a pretty good machine that that one.
In particular, I've played that one years past.
Dude had taped up a crazy microphone onto the fucking speaker grill and was like capturing game audio through the speaker grill for so so Mike questions, like what are like I see all these dudes running around these big cameras and like weird recording devices and set up something.
Where are you going?
What are you came?
Like?
Taking taking cabinet photos makes perfect sense, like that there's not enough great high res photography of arcade cabinets out there, sure that I agree with, And especially as these parts get harder and harder to find, it makes sense that like our like side art and stuff like that, we're gonna need to start reproducing a lot of this stuff.
And they do that, you know, some extent, but you know it's more and more of that starts to happen.
But to do that, you're gonna need to take that baby pac Man machine apart and photograph the you know, scan it, yeah, yeah, or you know, do what you can, yeah, exactly.
But like audio from the game, like there are better slash you know, quasi legal I guess I should say, ways to get straight up digital audio out of a lot of arcade machines.
So like doing that to a Tron machine when you could just as easily, I mean, well whatever with Tron in particular, you could just you know, you could buy an Xbox by Tron for Xbox.
But there's issues of of you know, quality of emulation, like we we'd see time and time again with emulated old games of like being right the pitch isn't quite right on this because someone didn't have an original to compare it too.
So like I'm pretty sure maname Tron's good so so because of me, But I mean because of these inconsistencies, like I can.
That's that's why this is the benefit of recording a lot of the stuff is you know, to kind of prove if there's bugs and the emulation to go fix it and sure that.
But still it's still bizarre to see something like, you know, this dude is not there to have fun.
This dude is there to document as many of these machines as he possibly can.
Maybe that's fun for him though, I mean, maybe he's from the future and that's his mission.
Yeah, I think this is kind of the future for arcade machines and need to bolt these machines together to stop nuclear war in twenty years, but all the machines will have been purchased by one of us, and you know, we won't be talking to each other, so we won't agree to get the machines back together.
I need to go back in time and take pictures of baby pac Man.
The only thing I can see the future.
All right, you got a clearance?
Go ahead.
Also, where's Ryan Davis?
Oh?
No, we need to kill him.
That whole fifth floor tobacco.
Everything spun out of control.
After that, we were on a course towards utopia.
Bad left turn happened.
Jaw forsook us after he was gonna be our future president, but then he got busted on this pot Wrath kept talking about Dick Stones.
Dick Stones, Brad Shoemaker.
How's it going, It's going pretty well.
It's up with video games, video games, anything, I understand.
We're here to talk about him.
How's the StarCraft going?
That's oh?
I played with I guess.
I don't know if you guys know who these people are, but probably not.
I played with most Tacular.
He's the guy who commentates casts all of the community tournaments.
Uh.
And I actually also played with the Giant Yes, and he's a pretty pretty good accomplished caster of StarCraft and also good at the game.
Uh.
And another friend of his, Cryptic, And also that the Moorn guy, who is like semi pro and is in the top two hundred and America.
I played with him yesterday that I was nervous.
I was nervous on the team with that guy.
Well, it didn't really matter because he fucking carried us every game.
The guy's fucking good sort of just like we're gonna march to victory every time.
Let me reiterate, he has one of the two hundred best UH StarCraft two players on the continent of North America.
I means there are one hundred and ninety nine people out there just to take you.
At last I saw he was like number forty or something.
I don't know.
That may have changed.
What do you do in a situation where you were just getting carried?
Like what what is you just work?
Do you just work on the economy?
And those guys have better economies than me and are macrowing better?
And our baby give you like tasks like go build Oh, I mean, you know a little bit here and there, you know, like I'm making an observer.
I saw I saw that the Vikings.
I saw that.
Actually I saw that one guy was sending like eight banshees around the left because I had made an observer and send it over and I contributed that piece of information.
Thank you, Intel.
And then you got captured and they held you.
Franto made a lot of vikings, So I made a lot of blink Stalkers at one point.
I mean that sounds kind of desperate.
Help sound.
No, I'm just saying.
I'm just saying it doesn't really matter how well I played.
And you have people like that on your team there, you know, people get pretty good at that game anyway.
Uh, anything else also has mentioned?
Uh?
I also, I too played through finished Bastion.
Can we speak about Missusplosion Man.
We can't write yes, because we can't talk about baston even though I wish we could beginning of the summer arcade.
Actually, don't think it's true.
No, that's not Misplosion fashion, that's your your Monday video was wrong.
I thought it was now I didn't know.
I saw the comments on video idiot, which is what all the comments say.
But yeah, in that case, they're there.
It's founded.
Displosion Man is a lot like Explosion Man.
She's got a bone.
He has already know the answer to that question.
Don't even ask it.
Uh, mechanically not much.
Explode pretty much exactly the same way.
I mean that game works the same.
Yeah, it's got roughly the same number of levels.
The secret Yes, yes, all right, they definitely dressed it up a lot, which going into it, I was all four.
I was like, dude, this looks like the Super Mario World to Splosion Man's like Super Mario Brothers.
You know, it's got it's got a world map, it's got like you said, secret exists that lead to hidden levels.
There's an achievement for finding the star Road that sounds awesome.
I don't know what it is yet.
I haven't found it, but I don't know.
That game is not really doing it for me the way the first one did as much.
Is it funny?
Like its kind of funny cantering a lot of videos, it's weird, like what they make video game?
So it's weird.
What did they What do they make before Splosion Man?
No, before Splosion Man, the first one, the mall was there.
Yeah, okay, so the ending of Splosion Man was kind of like the watershed moment for those guys, right, remember that ending?
Yeah?
Yeah, rand was the videos, the random ass video that just broke in and like, didn't did they come out at some point and say like, we have like two days left and we just have to make an ending?
Yeah, drink three.
We were talking to them.
It was just like a panicked like, fuck, we have to make an ending, right right, Like ran out of money, stn't need an ending.
So I feel like it's come full purple now where like that's kind of what they're about.
Yeah, as a developer, Well, that's the thing with with Comic Jumper, Like Comic Jumper was not an amazing game, right, but the use of FMV was what saved it, uh and and worked really well for it.
But I don't know that that's something that they can totally just make every game like that, like a game that's so hot, but the video is really funny because at some point it's like, well I could just watch all the video on YouTube, and I mean, this game's okay.
It's it plays exactly like Splosion.
Man.
It's got a few different mechanics.
So there's like trampolines, Uh, there's grind rails, right, there's a few parts where you splode like into the background and do some stuff and then splode back out.
That looks kind of cool.
I definitely saw, you know.
I just I've only played like the first three levels or something like that, and it definitely seemed like it was not fucking around on the difficulty like it's not started out hard.
It is harder.
It's definitely hard.
I mean the first game was harder.
Fu Yeah, but I felt like it was like, well, that's true because I mean you never played that game before.
You had to get used to work like this time.
This time, they if they go that you have played some splish man.
I just feel like a lot of not all the level design, but some of the level design is kind of sloppy compared to the first game.
The first game felt really tight to me, Like it felt like as long as you were hitting your cues, you know, as long as you were exploding on top of the little barrels and all that stuff, like you were gonna make it to the end by timing all that stuff right.
It feels like there are a lot of cases in this one where they're like camera angles are off or like weird things are like they have so the game looks a lot better, and they've got a lot more stuff going on, like the fourth round and like the little explosion effects and stuff like that.
Best stuff actually gets in the way of just seeing where you are from time to time.
Lots of weird little stuff like that.
I feel like it just doesn't play us smoothly.
Yeah, in a lot of cases.
But there's a ton of video in there.
Great, both those Beard videos, Yes, yes, great, both of which will also apparently appear in Gunstringer.
Excellent.
I hope there's a new one unless they shoot new ones.
But when the versions of Gunstringer they've been showing have the those Beard videos in them, that new one is pretty good.
Yeah, she's got a weird pension for spouting nineties pop lyrics.
Constantly got that constill with few levels I played there was definitely so weird.
Yep, yep, he's just a girl in the world.
I guess, Yeah, I'm with you.
Yeah, and I'm trying to pay in Vogue, Yes, and Vogue.
I was trying to think of like the most or Yep, that one's in there, all the Cowboys gone, that one's in there.
Yep, some Madonna, like early nineties Madonna.
It just seems like the logical counter to the Arnold Schwarzenegger.
But then there's also still that oh really okay, oh man, the quick look was a total recall.
Very first level is just straight up you guys, like the Predator or what because we got that.
I love the Predator.
Then awesome, there is a great total recall scene, great in keeping with traditions.
Yeah, yeah, I like they have those things.
Yeah, like all this stuff around their game play, it seems awesome, but it was it was definitely That was the thing with Comic Chumper.
It was like a lot of stuff around Comic Chumper was incredible.
But the act will you know, running and shooting and stuff like that, you know, and the part where the end boss of that game was just the end boss from Splosion Man, right, it was just it was just weird.
Yeah, So is there an interesting studio, like I mean, like just yeah, I wonder what their process is in terms of like how that stuff gets felt out, because I think part of the sloppiness is just a result of like, this is a weird idea, run with it, yeah, you know, and then sometimes it works, like with Comic Jumper it didn't really work.
Explosion Man, it did work Misplosion Man.
Is them trying to do that over but it doesn't like I'm not sure what like lessons they necessarily learned from the first one as much this is just more Explosion right, It doesn't it doesn't feel like they play tested this very hard, which I'm not sure do Like they pumped out games so fast, just like if you had had if you sat maybe like two dozen people down in front of this level and had them all go through it, and it kind of observed how they approached it, Like maybe you would have seen some of these scenes showing and you could have smooth that stuff out a little bit.
Yeah, Yeah, I don't know.
I'm interested to play some more of that.
Yeah, for sure playing because I'm ready for a game to just like destroy my favor Difficult, it's not.
It's not hard in the way the Super Mean Boy is hard, which is kind of what is sticking to my craw with this game.
Like Super Me Boy, I've always felt tough but fair, you know, sure, like you were the one, you were the one that you have such exactly and you could say that about the First Splosion Man to an extent.
Yeah, for the most part, there's a lot of it.
There's a lot of just trial and error and memorizing these levels to get through them.
They were like there are cases where you kind of have to die to see how it works and get through it the second time or the third time or whatever.
So so does it still have the same Penchantford like you know, twenty thirty second like checkpoint well just yeah, just like like forward movement sections.
So this is what frustrated me in the original Splosion Man, was you You'd go through these sections where it's like, okay, if you miss any one of these, all the absolutely and it's like it's a fairly long stretch between between checkpoints, and oh great, I have to go totally still there and redo all these early parts that aren't the part that I fucked up, right to get to the part that I fucked up.
And I almost wondered at some point, I was like, is it is a problem with me?
Like did I get lower at the stuff in the last two years?
But I mean again, you know I played through Me Boy and finished it, Like what was that eight months ago?
Done your time?
Well yeah, I mean the point is, you know, I can still deal with this stuff on some level, but this is just a lot of stuff about this is rubbing me the wrong way.
Like the character is so sluggish.
Still.
Yeah, Like I granted they like they spent a lot of time designing the first game, you know, like they put all the work in to make it work with those mechanics and stuff.
I guess they can't just like start giving you more air control out of nowhere without breaking the way all the stuff works together.
But like it just again, after playing stuff like me Boy, it just feels frustrating.
It feels like you're fighting the character to get where you want to go from time after you play a game that nailed it so perfectly, it's it's really hard to go back to games that are trying to emulate that sort of precision and just a little bit off the mark.
Ye, but no, maybe you know what you know who I don't feel envious for is the fucking super meat boy guys, because you know it's you know, it's like with any medium, like, yeah, you have all the time in the world and all of your freshest and best idea is to fucking knock it out of the park on your first game.
All right, what are you gonna do on your second game?
You've got eighteen months go?
Uh.
Edmund's kind of a side mill he's doing.
I forget that something of Isaac's some crazy, crazy collaboration with like a couple other yeah yeah he he, I mean, like, yeah, he has that side project and then h Tyler Gable, I think, is the the other guy the Team Meet.
He is working on a game called Closure that was in the IGF a couple of years ago that comes out later this year.
So they do side stuff.
But they also do have a new game, a new Team Meet game that is not a sequel.
They have no interest in doing anything with Super me Boy again.
And uh yeah, I mean it's apparently decently far along they were.
They were they almost killed themselves at the end of Super meat Boy trying to finish that because they put so much into it.
Yeah.
Well, yeah, not not to say that the development process of Super meat Boy was at all easy.
I'm just saying that, you know, it's they made of money.
I think they're in a good place.
I think they can breathe.
It's it's smart of them to try and differentiate, also to go and get whatever weird yayas they might have out inside projects.
Yeah, apparently they made more way more money on the Steam version than XBLA, yes, which, yeah, sure it was surprising at first me.
But I wonder if they I wonder if that biases them towards the PC for their development.
From your on, well, I bet the I mean in some extent, wouldn't you say that, like the PC version benefited from whatever QA it had to go through on the Xbox that they had to pay for.
Maybe, I mean it was it was pretty They probably made a lot more money on it because there weren't as many costs that there are not as much money going out to other people other than Valve.
Yeah, I guess so.
I mean that game was not sound when it came out on the PC, if that's what you mean.
Like basically, yea, they do a lot of patch patch it very quickly when the game came out on on Steam, but then they also added a insane level of value.
There's patches totally in addition to fixing fucked up stuff.
It's the version to get absolutely if you're going to go gold on.
But it's a mispelasure man has credit as ten bucks.
It's pretty low barrier to entry.
Uh.
And there's a lot of funny shit in there.
I mean, you know, like all the videos to buy and stuff like that.
It's kind of the it's it's the it's the question of what you're coming to splod or to misplosion man.
Although Comic Jumper probably was not the hardest game ever made, right, It wasn't.
It wasn't.
I did not find it at all engaging to play.
You're just going was It was a tough game to review because there were a lot of things I totally loved about Comic Jumper, but like playing it was just kind of like it's it's okay, you know, I didn't hate it, but it was it was super repettive.
Yeah, Like the gameplay itself wasn't like the Strong Suit, you know, it was like all their other stuff that that maybe fall in love with a lot of things about that game.
Just go finish the moll at some point, like the mall I tried to play if you played in perspective there is the first game.
Yeah, yeah, you have to come.
I was playing it then it wasn't.
I went back and I went back and played it after I played Splosion, Man, I was like, oh, I want I want to check that out.
And you have to play with you you have to play with a certain perspective otherwise.
Yeah, it's like it was an IGF game.
You have to be willing to make some concessions going into it.
It's like, okay, yeah, these guys have never made a game before, but then again, at least not seeing what these guys make games before, just not maybe as as a company.
I don't know, but I mean, you know, seeing what some other indie studios are doing for their first games.
It's now we're just going to play as a curiosity.
They just to enjoy it.
It's so far removed from what they're up to.
Now's become their thing.
They have a traumatic like they have a style that's actually like kind of a really cool thing about them is that they have developed a style that goes across all their games.
I just so they don't go to there's a really easy way to rely on that a little too has long as it leads up to them just actually making an FMV, this will be fine.
Are they the ones to do night Trap?
I think I think they're the only ones really dabbling, and they certainly have right now.
It's been brought up repeatedly and heavily to the Double Fine guys and to Too.
Yeah, definitely brought up to them.
We're telling anyone who will listen, yeah, that they should make us Sega talked to Sega about at some point it wasn't I don't know entirely negative.
Yeah, yeah, I guess I guess you could do that.
That's one way you could go.
All right, text that guy, see if you can talk him down on the rights a little bit.
Yeah, yeah, fuck it, we'll just make it.
See if we can get nitrop for two hundred bucks.
Maybe we can trade a Bubble Bubbles cabinet for the night trip with your bust Move cabinet for the good for the rights, we'll film.
We'll film the Night Trap sequial in your apartment.
Yeah, that'll be the trade off.
Who's who's in the data playto role?
I'll figure something out.
Yeah, CGN Plato Alice, we'll use the Yeah, how'd that go that good?
Huh?
Yeah, I'm kind of glad I didn't buy that game, No talk about it.
I never got over the camera stuff in the combat.
Just always bothered you always bothers.
Yeah, I just didn't.
I still want to play for the art.
Yeah, that's great.
It's it's what to play it for is the art?
Like like I felt like the platforming stuff is dark, man, the game is dark.
It's darker in the very end, is so crazy dark.
I thought Fear Too is dark?
Nope, fu that it's darker this is way darker.
Is there any kind of like ghost sexual assault?
The ghost not ghosts baby, but sexual assault.
Well, not want to talk about this anymore anyway.
The camera just in the combat was driving me bananas at the end, just a lot of just like you're playing the PC version, PC version, what they get with the game, gain control pad.
I'm shirt it works normally as it should.
I don't know.
I just didn't bout dark, but it does get dark.
I put that game.
I put that game down.
I was like, I don't feel good.
You go hug my wife.
I don't think.
I don't want to hug anybody.
I don't want to touch anybody.
Affn't want to touch me.
I didn't want anybody to know I finish this.
It's kind of want to turn it off and oh yeah, it's good stuff and it works because they commit to it.
Yeah, they And that's you know, that's something I'm talking back to the student fifty one thing like I had to wonder because there's someone else's the creative director of uh Alice Madness returns an American McGhee game.
Well, at some point, running an independent studio like that, a lot of your job is running the studio.
Sure, so I was.
It's it's a question of like what did America, Like, what was American McGee's input on right, right, there's just points in that game where I'm like, I think I know what you're trying to tell me, but I don't want to believe what you're trying to tell me.
Nope, that's exactly what.
It's like, you really are just really what you want to tell me.
It's like, yeah, I want to tell you.
I'm just gonna show you again.
Now we're just gonna cut to the quick.
Just here it here, it is.
Oh, this has sold me in the game way more than anything else could have possibly done.
It's just the it's the constant refrain of this game.
It's just like six hours too long.
That keeps putting me off.
Yeah, he's also to Softie for the stuff.
But it's it's it is definitely fucking it is grim it is I'm in Yeah, and yeah, that's it's that issue.
Maintains of each each area is about an hour longer than it ought be.
Yeah, it was for me.
It just got down to that that that damn camera during the combat, I just it would always be in the wrong spot.
And I would always just be stuck behind the dude or a guy's off I'm just shooting the gun off screen, hoping I'm trying to hit a guy because the because I'm locked on in the cameras, it's in a weird place.
Yeah, it happened.
Maybe there's some difference in because I feel like I could move I can't recall at this point, but I feel like I could move the camp to the camera around while I was locked on dark.
Yeah, Patrick's talking about some news.
What what do you feel?
What do you want to That's what's I don't know.
Hey, what's up?
We went to that DA thing?
Yeah, that's right where they were.
Yeah, talk to me about burnout crash dude.
Yeah, it's cool.
Burnout crash dude.
It's cool.
People need to calm down, it's cool.
Okay.
Yeah, everyone losing their minds as though we hadn't discussed this when they initially released all this information.
Yeah, back in May through the SRB where they said it was top down.
There's anything to get worked up about.
It seems like it's the connect control, which is optional.
So again, how are the lobster monsters?
Did not see any lobster monsters.
This is the part I'm upset about.
Yeah, so now I'm gonna be angry about they're not talking about that.
I mean they have basically, I mean they've basically taken the core concepts of the crash mode from the Burnout series, from Revenge, the last one that had to crash.
Yeah, like two, three, and four all had some semblance of a of a crash mode, and uh, you know, the things that you expect to be there are present, Like you crash and like they're you know, traffic patterns.
You crash into something to start the crash.
Then you have crash breakers and aftertouch yeah, and you're you're basically trying to do as much damage as possible.
The difference is it's it's all top down now.
Uh.
And you basically, like your crash breaker meter fills up like every like probably like five to ten seconds or something like that, so you can kind of just keep setting it off over and over again.
Uh.
And and you know continually after touching around this area to blow as many cars.
You can also buildings.
You can do damage to buildings now too.
They've thrown in some kind of like like game showy like they try to describe it as like a cross between like game shows and pinball and burnout.
I guess, I don't know.
So you'll run into situations where like a pizza delivery truck will will crawl drive across the screen and you'll get like warning when it's gonna happen, and if you can blow up that delivery truck, the like the Pizza of Fortune appears and it spins and you get like additional additional features going on in there to you know, change like score, modify or other things in the level.
And then there are some cars that drive on that you can't blow up or shouldn't, and you get a bonus if you can.
You know, an ambulance can drive through the screen without you blowing it up, And it's all kind of takes place like on a screen, like you kind of drive up to the crash junction and then from there it doesn't really scroll too much.
You're just kind of going around the screen crashing as much stuff as you can before time expires.
And it's very like kind of basic downloadable game, Like you could see this working really well on say some sort of mobile device, if they were to announce it for some sort of mobile device in the relatively near future, like an iPad, like an iPad maybe SIMI like something similar, like kind of like the same feature sit as an iPad, But I don't know if an iPad one could really handle it.
You know, it's graphically it looks pretty nice.
So who can say, only on an iPad two?
Maybe?
Who can say?
Who can say?
So, what's the connect stuff?
Optional connect stuff?
Like?
So the connect stuff is like you you drive with your hands in front of you connect joy ride like I got a fake stereo wheel.
Yay.
It's not a good start.
Then when you start the crash, you jump to do the crash breaker to get your car up in the air, and then you kind of step around to do the aftertouch.
Uh.
And it was not the easiest thing to wrap your mind around, uh, like moving the car around.
I was having a little trouble doing that.
Was there also some leaning involved, and it's more stepping than leaning, And I think that was my problem was I was trying to lean because that felt more natural, but apparently it's a step.
I didn't think anything about it looked natural, it didn't actually feel terrible.
I'm not saying that, but I'm not saying the implementation is bad, but like, what's the reason for it being there?
It just does not seem appropriate for that kind of game.
I don't know.
It's again it's optional, so we can't if I it's just fucking spitball here.
It's the Criterion guys using an ex hues to like experiment with more connect shit.
Yeah.
Probably.
I was like, all right, let's see what happens with this.
I don't know.
Maybe it'll be in the next because this is not if we get Criterion's working on right.
Also, the other thing we learned there is that this is not the only thing Criterion's working on.
You know that, But what is Monolith working on?
I think I can stay with some certainty that is not Black Too.
You're saying some certainty.
You can't say with absolute certainty.
We spoke, he may be willing to speak, we have, we haven't.
We have an interview with with Alex Ward up on the site as part of our EA event coverage where we talk about the game, but talking to him separately about Black Too, and he's like, no, we're not fucking no, it's not Black Too.
So nice to see Alex Ward out again.
Yeah, I haven't seen seen him in years.
Yeah, yeah, to the point where you're like, he's still a criterion, he's still going on.
He said he was in jail.
I don't know.
I don't know if I buy that.
So maybe there is black tooth because I don't know if I buy a story about being in jail.
Maybe that's what it's based on.
Yeah, you just dropped hints the whole time, So black too.
You brick out of jail, right, and there's a guy and a barrel.
You're you want to shoot the guy, but trust me, shoot the barrel.
Yeah.
So they're working on another driving game.
Uh, and you know, my gut tells me it's probably the next need for speed to happen after the run, because you know, Hot Pursuit did so well.
But I sure would like it if it was another burnout game.
I'd like to see them doing burnout.
I also would not be surprised to see that finally happened, or just call it burnout put the little you know, like call it that for one year, like the Shift burnout, and then it just became shift too with the little need for speed and on the box to let you know, like, hey, it's still that that so maybe they do that for one year and then go back to just calling it Burnout.
I wonder if, like the success of this of this down Little Will game will have some sway on the the amount of burnout versus need for speedness of the next big criteria.
I think I actually, probably, like most rather see them just make a game called Burnout versus Need for Speed, like Burnout Cross Speed.
It's just like the B Team Van and then like a Selica.
So it's got all the non licensed stuff.
It's yeah yeah, and those cars can blow up, but you cannot blows yeah.
I don't know, different ball game there.
Yeah.
So I think that game seems all right, you know, it's it's a it's a generally inoffensive downloadable thing that actually feels enough like even playing a Connect I could, I could still it's still felt enough like the Burnout crash mode that I'm sure with a pad it's probably totally fun.
Oh so they were only showing it with a Connect.
They let me choose, and I was just like, you know what, I want to know?
Yeah, I want to know, like you're you're showing it like this, let me see what's up with this?
And that's what that's what ot.
Yeah, there's some stuff, some other stuff.
We played Age two deals, so you're coming out.
Yeah, that's that's coming out at the end of the month.
Trailer for that.
But it was gonna weird because they were hype it up that there was gonna be some stuff there and they're just really was I don't know that there was a hype or expect Well, there was expectation because expects big enough because they have enough stuff there before.
Yes, like every year there's something that's part.
It's usually were they brought sud and it usually sort of their B level stuff.
Doesn't that make sense?
For E three, like we were like, you know, is Ted Price gonna come out and talk?
I expected some overstart thing.
I've been hearing rumors about Syndicate.
Syndicate was runce.
Also there are also some rumors about Crisis one console.
Yeah, some rating stuff.
Yes, some people were talking like that might be there.
But yeah, like the Star Wars guys reasonly got a new flux of cash and E eight for this project readline which is Syndicate and yeah, so maybe maybe that's what pushed it out of it.
So were there little kids on stage?
No, there were dogs.
No, there was one on the lawn on their their big field they had they were throwing frisbees of dogs.
It was it was a weird.
It was like no helicopters, but yeah, it's like and we got a special treat for you out on the there was the great Lawn.
Is that what they call it?
Something like that, Yeah, a special treat.
We go out there and it's like some docs and chasing frisbees like stars frisbee's dogs.
I'm like, what how many people in mind?
Keep in mind in years past this has been like like a helicopter bearing NFL players and yeah, there's something crazy this This event sounded like just we have the time slot.
We can't.
It was weird event we have it.
It was a weird shift and focus.
I mean, like, you guys love to see a fifteen minute debo of Scramble for iPad playing.
Facebook version of that presentation was mobile and social games, which is, you know, sports always say that stuffs important.
It is.
I mean, it's important.
It is you know, we make a lot of money off that stuff.
Yeah, it's just sort of weird, which this is, you know, sense of the an enthusiast press events.
It was that stuff is always there, so if you want to like come check it out, Like Battlefield three was there, and we can't talk about what we saw of that.
But but it was not part of the presentation.
You're right, and it was almosch is weird.
I almost got the impression that was like, well, we got the space, let's put the game.
Let's put the big game here.
How about we got to build of it.
We just put it out, all right, you've got big signs.
Let's say pre apha code that we can put on all the chaosks.
I do great, Let's do it just so happens.
Yeah, and then and then we can't talk about that for another couple of weeks, which specific in specifics, which is just I am personally excited.
We played that game at E three, y'all.
I'm excited for for bren Out Crash.
I don't care what what other people say.
Well, I do love that mode.
I always love that mode.
It was always bummed that it, you know, got kind of you know, I understood why it disappeared, got disappeared out of out of Paradise, out of the open world format, But gosh darn it, it's a puzzle game.
Yeah, it turned blowing cars up into a puzzle game.
That's that hits every part of my brain.
Is even more that it's abstract about too, like a pure puzzle game.
There's d that's great, yeah, because the driving isn't really necessary.
Yeah, the driving is always kind of irrelevant to that mode.
So but it has like the burnout cars and like you still pick a car.
Yeah, and you know they have the different ratings, like it has the class, it has the B Team van and for exactly that matters.
It had like it had like some kind of a cartoony.
It was very colorful, yeah, very break game.
And like one of the sections is called Roswell, So imagine that's where the UFOs will be, and there'll probably some section near the end of the game with some sort of lobsters in town.
You think that'll be the level and the lobsters.
So I know, there's Seacrests and that's like Miambi Beach, and then there's Roswell, okay, and then there are two others.
At least, it sounds like an old Midway game.
You know what weird me out more than anything was how much that game sounds like a slot machine Yeah, like the sound of just kind of like like constantly some some more stuff, some of sounds that can't be approximated with a human voice, but but like you hear it like that.
That's exactly who not.
Yeah, there you go.
This is getting like a Winslow on the phone fell like being on the floor of casino here in that game.
Yes, it was very evocative.
Was everyone's smoking inside the campus?
It was an ashtray.
They're British man, it's not allowed to say Criterion guys, don't go fuck all right, Patrick's talk about some news.
Let's talk about Theatrhythm Theater Rhythm, Theatrism, Theater the Trism, Last Final Fantasy, that weird rhythm game.
Yeah, that weird rhythm game, Final Fantasy Rhythm Game, Final Fantasy Rhythm Game, Theater Rhythm.
It was announced last week.
More details came out this week.
Characters from Final Fantasies one through thirteen?
Yes, what was my favorite Final Fantasy game?
Which ones are they missing?
The ones from Final Fantasy two are my favorite because it's just it's just main games.
They've or at least they've said that.
Characters from one through thirteen Crystal Chronicles.
Yeah, I guess, I guess you know what about he should be right?
Yeah, plays the basic I can confirmed dance, I can, I can either confirm nor not he is dance the KEFCA content.
It's a rhythm game.
Rhythm, a bunch of them.
The rhythm.
Well, so it's it's whatever, it's it's all of these.
It's all of the Final Fantasy soundtrack.
Bullshit that you've been imparting from JAM Japan for way too much money over the years.
They're taking your favorite song.
You got that dance remix of one week, Get Angel is in there, confirm with more of I'm gonna guess not.
We gotta do dance remixes.
That shit a rhythm game, and it's just the just like no here, Well that's where there are enough dance remixes of those songs out there already.
Even Yeah, that's why it's called the rhythm because they're going for the theatrical element of it is all right, it's based on the Final Fantasy movie.
Yeah, you spirits within.
We were excited about this than any other Final Fantasy game the last five years.
I thought everyone of the trailers for verses thirteen looked pretty good.
Everyone's got crazy.
It's never gonna come out of a rhythm games.
Everyone's got everyone's got crazy cheeby versions in the game.
And it's like Cloud and Lightning are in there, plus I don't know other other dudes.
He goes there, Chokabo in it is their airship level, and then see it is like hold on spinning on his head.
Hold on, let me look at the two screenshots that have been released for this so far.
He wearing goggles.
He'd be wearing goggles.
That's the one.
I'm talking about, my Maneles.
Yeah, I believe.
I believe he'll be in there.
The weird the weird thing is to consider that they'll have to put characters from Final Fantasy eleven in there, which I don't know what the import your character.
I don't even know what that means.
Import your character from Final Fantasy eleven.
I don't know.
Well, maybe they just put the best.
Yeah, put like some style, you know, some style is all thirteen main entries in the Final Fantasy series will be represented.
Six or busts.
Well, that'll be in there.
I don't know.
Wait, okay, fine, buck you guys, let's talk about Trenched.
No.
I want to I want to hear more about it?
What are you doing it?
You play it's a bunch of rhythm games?
What does that mean?
A Square Annis, Square Enix, what does that mean?
We're not gonna tell you yet because we're fucking crazy and out of our minds and totally Japanese.
Put summon Baha mud and then it gets the fuck down?
Is it like rhythm tangku style anything?
No?
Who are you talking to?
No, it's not they're not yet.
No.
Well all all they've said is that they've released two screenshots, and both of those have what appeared to be different types of rhythm games in them.
So you play rhythm games to fight battles, that's what I understand.
You can you can you can extrapolate what that actually means to the boy addition, and it looks like old sixteen bit like, you know, sprites on one side fighting some more sprites on the other side.
One of the screen shots looks like looks like that.
The other screen shot looks nothing like that.
So it's even even like what the framing device is gonna be like.
It's hard to say because Square doesn't need to give you these details when they say, you know, we're making a fucking Final Fantasy Rhythm game.
That's enough for you to know that you don't want to play again.
Yeah, you're either in or you're out on that.
That information is all you fucking need to make that purchasing decision.
All everything else that what songs are included, that's something to bitch about on a forum somewhere.
That is not that is no bearing on on a purchasing choice over under on that name surviving to this market.
Theater Rhythm.
Yeah, I guarantee you think they have such crazyness, like what do the decidia they have change?
They did?
They renamed god?
What did they renamed Kingdom Hearts twenty four over thirty five?
Yeah?
You're right, Yeah, they're literally like they're not doing any focused testing.
It was a Too thirteen or whatever got renamed to something else.
I forget, something else, far more memorable.
It was less memorable but also blessed insane.
Yeah.
I think they're like naming conventions.
That's what people are looking for, the Final Fantasy franchise, less insane, trenched, Yeah, real, Unfortunately a trench for them game.
There may have to be for them to get released in Europe that that may be salute in time to the beat.
Yeah, but yeah, basically, there is a board game over in Europe called Trench.
So so we talked about the basics of this last week of Hey, dude has this board game name trade called Trench, and he has covered his bases as far as copyrights go throughout Europe.
Someone didn't check this or don't know what happened on the back end.
Only know is we got up to the date and they did not.
Microsoft did not have the rights to put that game out and then Europe under that under that name.
Yes.
The new wrinkle is that the guy who owns this uh is now saying he wants to make a game based on his board game Trench, right, and it seems like it seems it's a game of it's a game of chicken between Microsoft and this guy to see if he can get a higher buyout.
I'm sure this guy has really no intention of producing a Trench game secured the electronic game version sure, yeah, yeah, like his trademark.
It just someone didn't check that or didn't or it waited too long before the game got this closed.
So yeah, I mean devil find is either faced with Microsoft paying out this guy, which now that price I get is going up more and more, or like every time we say the word Trench or the every second we talk about this story, the price goes up a little bit.
No, yeah, I mean that's absolutely true.
And and so basically now they're faced with like redoing the assets, renaming the game, which at this point is probably cheaper, and they'll just rerelease the game, you know, three or four onths from now.
It we just won't be called Trenched.
Yeah, so it'd be a limited edition for your up accounts, you can own both.
It seems it seems downloads don't work.
It seems I don't know, maybe this guy knows the position that he's in better than than we do, but it seems it does seem like it's dangerous game.
He set himself up to getting nothing.
Yeah, because at the point where you are publicly, you know, giving statements to euro Game or other outlets saying like, yeah, now I'm making a game.
I mean, I get his why he's doing it, but I think Mike might at this point just walk away and yeah, no, we're not gonna pay you anything.
And because they look at how much it's gonna cost do the asset stuff, and it's probably.
I mean, I don't know, but it seems like it's probably getting cheaper by the day to just do it over.
Yeah, we don't have the title screen.
We don't have that much of an investment in the name of this game.
So yeah, it's the first one.
It's like we're already knee deep in trenched spinoffs and rhythm games.
Yeah, and then and then once and then once they you know, redo it, you know, possibly if they do a second one, like they just negotiate with the guy after the value of the after this is all blown over.
Yeah, So too bad for those guys though, because that game secesh're doing with the law for them one nice if they can it can't come out, I'm sure it's sure.
That's got to be frustrating.
Rename it Mega Drive.
That's what it's called in Europe.
I like it.
Yep, sure that's better.
Jeff Gerstman, they'll call it that.
I have the rights to that in Europe.
No, you don't.
I do.
I own the rights to Jeff Gerstman in Europe.
The board game rights.
Fuck board game.
Some dude somewhere in Europe owns Jeff Grisman dot com.
Yeah, I don't se Yeah, some dude in Europe.
Wait a minute, you motherfucker, But turn that frown upside down, Jeff, because Planet Side two is coming yay.
They released an official trailer and said, yep, we're making Planet Side too.
Man.
I hope that's good, and we're calling it planet Side two apparently, even though it really is just planet Side again.
Even thought, look looking at that trailer, I mean, like, I recognize that building, and I guess I'm probably gonna have to go and take over that building again, aren't I wait, laying on the roof, it's faster.
Is that really what they're doing.
Yeah, it's like it's from the sounds of things, from what they've talked about.
They haven't, you said a ton, but it sounds like it's like set in the same period of time.
It's not necessarily advancing the story.
It's just like these three factions are fighting each other, same same three factions, same maps.
I don't know about those continent or hopefully it is before they added all the underground caves, because that's that for me, is where the Planet Side went did really bad?
That game even have maps per se or was it just one giant land?
It's one giant land mass, but you zone between them, okay, I guess, and you can kind of air drop to any one of them at any point.
I guess.
That's all I remember from Planet Side was a lot of waiting around to get on the air transport to the You could just like instant action anywhere you wanted or if you like so ill when you wanted to go to a specific spot, though, But it wasn't really just spect myself for flying and just flew wherever I wanted to go.
But it wasn't a bunch of like sixteen player instances or whatever.
No, no, no, it was.
It was massively multiplayer.
And they have said so much I guess about this one that it's not instanced at all, Like you get on server and you fight dudes?
Is it?
Was it?
The game ever a good shooter?
No, it's still a great concept.
Yeah, I think about when it came out, like you know, network technology back then.
I mean it's still two perfect sure too, I'm getting yeah, I'm getting too.
Yeah, you know, because you're right, so like you know, just trying to do an action game with that many players, you know, it's a dicey property created his computer for this stupid game.
I guess, I probably, I just it was.
It was a lot of fun too, Like even take into account that just like the weapons didn't fire like they did in a you know, four player first person shooter, right, you know, even compensating for that, it was still really cool when it worked.
But at this point, like scale of a PC multiplayer first person shooter has increased so much that like the basic novelty of there's a lot of dudes in this fight, like, isn't That's why they're saying it's not instanced, because that means like there could be a lot more dudes in this theoretically than there even are in you know, but in a battlefield game or in MAG or I mean, I guess, like like that didn't matter enough to make MAG, like you got to have a good underlying like you got to have a strong fucking basics and some of the semisimilar ideas that they kind of basically, you know, in a lot of ways, MAG took some of the stuff the PlanetSide did, and not directly, but you know other games did this, but try to build it into a lasting conflict.
There was from persistence in the world of Mag based on how your faction was doing, and that's all That's what Planet Side really was is you know, you your your faction would take over whole areas and then you would all go to bed and wake up and you didn't have any any of it anymore, and you'd have to just keep fighting forever.
So do you do you think you can make this Planet Side to a subscription MMO in today's kind of like my understanding that I think there's already said, like the developments is it?
Well, they said they're not talking about the model, which would suggests they're doing something different.
Free to play.
I think free to play makes a lot of sense.
I just feel like with the first person shooters in the purchase and persistence on a local level, the appeal of like an online persistent first person shooter.
But like with something like mag which is kind of that model, I mean there is persistence right, kind of becomes less appealing.
But it was like the thing with Mag is its persistence that you didn't really see and touch, Like this is what like a world you can go into if you just want to hang out behind your lines and just like you're holding this base down and it's gonna you know, even if they're attacking in this direction, they could take them four hours of taking over bases and rolling past all our automated defenses to even get to where we're at.
I was thinking more of like the perk system and like character like leveling up.
Now they maybe to say you could kind of respect yourself in a lot of different directions, so you would spend your spec points to like get classified for like you'd get the like I'm I'm able to now pilot this type of vehicle because I put this many points into flying shit just way deeper.
Uh.
Yeah, they could go deeper trees.
They could definitely go deeper on trees.
And it sounds like I think PC gamer has like a wrap up on their site talking about like some of the stuff that's in there and stuff like that.
There's like it is stuff about skill trees and there's some guys going to pretty deep on trees on the fifth floor at the Higher Sea.
Sounds horrible, sir, the whole row of planet side machines up on the fifth floor, Big Old Land.
I'm just not very confident players up there with all that.
Bob Woo.
I can't bring that into the statesman.
I'll bust you for sure.
Yeah, I mean, Patrick, I'm with you with that concern Sony online entertainment.
I just don't like, I really think it's a great concept that like if the rumors are true, and then like Bungee's thing is kind of this but like done by Bungee, I got to have a lot more confidence that someone like them is going to pull it off because it is a great concept waiting for someone to just figure it out.
And Bungee arguably has both ends of the like we can do good network connectivity and also we know how to make a very solid first person that you got to scale it and find a way to make that conflict fun on a larger scale.
And I kind of trust them a lot more than I trust and it's a hard enough to crack.
That's yeah.
Multiple people who have have tried the the large scale constantly even you know, you know, yeah, whether it's the real time aspect of it that like the action end of it, or whether it's like the persistent world aspect of it of just like and then I logged out and then we started over from scratch the next day because someone else logged in and the Blue guys took over all our turf.
How do you make people care and have investment right when its conflict that just goes forever?
Yeah, and like when you go to bed, how all that changes?
Like yeah, it's it could be cool though the concept just so awesome.
Still, that's someone's gonna be like it's gonna be like like monthly wins or something.
There's gotta be more structure too.
You need something.
You need to just like you need dudes in a world it would give you stuff where like, you know, the more stuff you took over, you would start to get like benefits to your so I mean just logged in each time.
They would give certain factions bonuses if they're understaffed on a server, that sort of stuff, trying to keep it ahead.
But then it needs to be something like, you know, get a cool piece of like unique fucking gear for your dude that you can show off, like if all right, our our faction you know quote unquote one during this month, so we got this thing or you know, it's just some sort of token like that, so that it's not just the Yeah, well, like I am in this endless conflict, end to what end and why?
Like events occur in planet Side or is it just there are just no there weren't really no because I think that's what There was no real single player.
There was no real why don't you needs a single player?
But if like if they're like I mean, I mean, just like you were fighting the environment.
Yeah, it was just like any any dude you saw was a human.
Okay.
There could be more things, like they could shape the world to change it dynamically, you might be able to focus players rather.
Yeah, there was an expansion that like totally rejiggered the way the world looked and added all these caves that were shortcuts between areas and stuff, and then I added these Mex suits that were not fun, and that expansion just kind of ruin the game in a lot of ways.
People still play it like it has a I couldn't get running on one to seven.
I tried actually installing it last year at one point but couldn't get it going.
But yeah, this is a new engine that's they're also apparently using for the next EverQuest games.
They're calling EverQuest Next, Yeah, because Planet Side two is called Planets Side Next.
At one point they showed one screen looks all right, it looks like a elf awesome.
So you think what they showed in that trailer for Planets Side Too is game player?
You think that's just mock up show.
I thinks game player.
It didn't look that good if you if you look at it's definitely it's definitely game played.
All right, One more story here, Uncharted movie David or Russell dropped out a couple of weeks ago, or at least it was announced that he dropped out a couple of weeks ago.
We now have director Neil Burger stepping in.
Most recently did Limitless Limitless the Bradley Cooper Drugs Make You Awesome movie, also did to the Fifth Floor.
Also down the Cooper's up there, did the Only Pills Make You Awesome?
Not all Dr Robert scenarios up there?
You work for me.
Now, there's no scenario in which you don't smoke this weed and then we go buy stocks.
So also the Illusionist his credit, that's some other stuff, but he wrote that too, you're losing it.
Yes, okay, good to know.
Good movie, not as yes, yea, not as good as as the Prestige Obvious, which is kind of the obvious comparison.
But but but yeah stands on the Stone no deep impact it is.
It is not very good as a competitor to like Armageddon.
Yeah, like it's you put deep impact arm again against Okay, I kind of Mercury not a good, not a good comparison to Mercury rising the alc Baltwine.
So because of the limitless connection, everyone's saying Bradley Cooper for Nathan Drake, which I will say, you could cast a lot worse for that role.
It's not gonna be Nathan Phillian.
Just just just listen, guys, it's yeah.
I love Nathan Philly.
Yeah, I find him charismatic.
I watch his stupid show, even though it's extremely stupid.
Castle.
Yeah, it's not good.
It's just pretty dumb.
It's a dumb show.
I also brandably watched Doctor Horror recently.
Yeah.
Man, he hands it up in the watch the whole I don't know what are you watching.
I took that as a positive sure, as it absolutely doesn't hand it up.
I mean, that thing knows what it's going for and again it goes for it.
I just found it pretty unpalatable until the last like ten minutes when it suddenly got pretty good.
I didn't like Bad Horse, Bad Horse, Bad Horse is in the ending.
Yeah, but bad horse like like the ending doesn't work unless the bad horse like set up through the rest of the thing happened.
Sure.
Sure, but the bad Horse payoff is amazing.
Ye, I'll absolutely give you that is really good.
Anyway, no casting announces have been made other than hey, Neil Burger is the new director on this, but you know obviously went and wild a speculation on on The Bad Cop.
I had heard that Sony and Naughty Dog were extremely upset over how what's his face Russell was was was handling less of what is reshaping of the movie was going to be.
They were sort of okay with that, but more of like the way he handled it in public, and so there was I was told there was definitely some pressure to to get him off the project.
The problem with like, once you take David Russell off and he's hot off of an Oscar film is that you were on the risk of like then the movie just goes to development.
Hell, right, So the fact that they picked someone up, you know, it's good.
Yeah, hopefully, Yeah.
And I supposed to even knew about that.
He was about that mass efect movie at Comic Con, But there was a Gears of War panel about that movie and that never had Also, don't forget the World of Warcraft movie y Sam Raimi was still working on that could still happen.
Yeah, that when I was announced, that was like, he's going to go do another movie before he looks at this.
I'd rather say he's done like three, he hasn't.
He did Drive Me to Hell, but that was this was announced after that, is it?
Yes?
And then he was gonna do this Wizard of Oz movie.
Okay, so he's doing that, So if he doesn't do it after this, then then you can write it off.
Okay.
I would rather see a World of Warcraft Saturday Morning cartoon, the way they just take old episodes of the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon and just like say, it's a batch of kids that got sucked into fantasy world.
They were sitting in front of their computers and then one of them spilled him out and do with the keyboard and now, oh no, we're stuck on You think the un they should just re dubbed the old Uh doesn't like yeah, exactly, look out for that wiver.
Yeah whatever I'm saying, just different descriptive text for it.
That's that's the we should go talk to Van Cleef.
So, so, Patrick, what do you think the reality then of this movie being made?
Sony Like, I think they're right that this could be an Indiana Jones type franchise for them, So they have a reason to make this happen, But they also have a reason to not cast Nathan Phillion, So stop hambling it, Okay.
So yeah, i'd say decent shot, I hope.
So I still wish.
I believe it could be a great film, Branch, I still wish they go over Mivinsky BioShock movie happened.
Yeah, yeah, and basic basically they said make a PG thirteen.
He said no, then we just won't make it, and so great.
Then it was budgetary.
It was, but it was budgetary plus plus the he wanted it to be a hard R and they said no.
So I would still see a PG thirteen by shot movie.
I don't think that's it.
I'd rather see a hard R sure, sure in anything.
Yeah, but literally, any movie that you proposed to me is like, make that hard R.
Yeah, then I'll no hard Pee's Big Adventure hard R.
Yeah, what's that terrible frightening Yeah, it makes that large margin sequence just really disturbing.
Is that bathtub sequence really hotter hard hot?
It's already hot.
All right, let's talk about some new rests.
Yeah, I'm just kidding.
There are no new lads.
No wait to misflosire Man's coming out this week.
Warlords coming out?
What war Warlords coming out?
Warlords came out for arcades in like nineteen eighty so back then.
NCAA Football twelve is out this week, as is Harry Potter and the Deathy Hallows Part two.
So thenny one more Harry Potter game.
Yeah, because this would be the last Harry Potter game.
This should be the last of the movie Harry Potter games.
There you go, I guess is the last time the license to the Harry Potter games?
Yes?
So someone hooray?
Are we gonna do another one of those?
Yep?
Is it connect?
I don't know, took it out?
Okay, so that sounds it's here.
That's all that you get that close enough?
All right?
Cool?
I guess that Warhammer forty K kill team just got announced out of this week, the Boulder Dash XL.
Yes, Boulder Dash XL the team.
So the dual choice takes shooter.
It's like the remember how the base Space Marines coming out soon Sonier's downloada ball games set in the Warhammer August or September.
I want to say, it's that's the Relic games Space Marine.
So this is supposed to be lead up to that emotional item.
Yeah, I think.
I think they are treating as a promotional item, but they're also selling.
They did the Red Faction Battleground game, which worked out for that game.
Woof that yeah, woof, I'm barking at the dog.
That was that Red Factions Battleground game.
That was right up there with the Star Trek dual joystick shooter or the Wing Commander dual joystick shooter, or I always forget there was a Wing Commander du yeah, or or the Battlestar Galactica dual joystick shooter, all of which were not All those were dual joystick shooters.
Some of them need to turn in the direction and fire.
That's true, totally different.
They're all junkie that that I'm with you on.
All right, let's talk about some emails.
Bomb cast at john bomb dot com comes in from I just I really have not been finding it the last few weeks.
Okay, Ultram is a summer Man, the All Star break is upon us.
That thats again just like every week.
This is this is why I'm taking a cake yail surprise.
You mean you'll just like put emails in a different part of the show next week and you just keep my toes.
You won't even know, just be like ready to drift off and all of a sudden emails.
All right, challenge me.
I was email attacks just into throughout the show.
Just whenever he's gonna show behind you with a video game broughout the week.
Yeah, anytime show up in your house, you're come at me with an inbox, be next to be next year in bed and just just whisker emails, creep back out.
He's made all right, It's possible.
HK writes in to say, whoop.
Indeed, excellent show is always keeping up.
I was wondering about the state of Vinnie's eyes a few months ago.
He said he went to the doctor's stuff hope all is best for him.
Bennyny email, I've got to go back.
I go back to the doctor.
It's still there.
It's still there.
You've just adjusted to it.
I guess, no, it's still there.
Yeah, I go back to the doctor next week.
Next Monday, I canceled an appointment and said I was like, hey, I'm gonna cancel this appointment.
She's like, oh, okay, you want to resketch.
I was like, next month or something.
It's still there, so I don't need to go to the doctor to say, hey, it's still there once you wait it out.
Here's my twenty cope all right, and she I think she kind of got mad at me for being like, you wait a month and I was like, yeah, you're just gonna tell me it's still there.
So here's a month later.
All right, it's still there.
I kind of want to cancel it again.
No, go to the doctor.
Yeah, I'm gonna insist this time, so it's still there.
I'll pay part of your cope.
Yeah, I'll pitch in.
I got my task money.
Okay, that's fine, I'll take I post tax.
I don't care if it gets you to the doctor.
What do you say?
It's still there?
And I'll be like, yeah, I know it's still there.
Maybe maybe he's gonna be like, well, do you want to get it lasered off?
I don't know, should get a laser dog?
I don't want to get it's just gonna be there.
Then it's supposed to go away.
Yeah it's not, but it's not so lasers.
I'm gonna go on vacation.
You know what I've got, I've got laser discs.
I think I just need to close time and it's opened the laser displayer displayer.
Yeah, we'll just rattle your head around in the laser discplayer for a little bit.
You'll see mad Dog McCree for the rest of your days.
I wanted to ask, how do you hook up a laser disc player to a modern TV video?
But really, yeah, is that the best for the laser displayer.
It's the best that my laser displayer does.
There are better options there may be considering how how late LaserDisc movies were coming out, at some point someone might have made an HDM mileas or displayer.
Definitely, not really.
I would be impressed to see a full component laser disc player.
Yeah, I mean lasers so yeah, I know, but so like converting to that doesn't people even suggested on my player because I was doing crazy research.
I've got a Marantz, which is of course kind of a high end.
Apparently turns out it's a rebranded Pioneer but Pioneer is the fucking brand player displayers.
And I was reading some some some opinions that you actually like the composite is better than S Video for this, and I couldn't quite wrap my head around it because it had to do with image processing chips and just weird shit like that, because because the only people that are still talking about these displayers on the internet are lunatic ass like audio and video files.
Who are you know, just like the oh there's Japanese only release of this disc, the only place that you can still get blah blah blah blah blah.
So I couldn't quite writ my head around it.
But yeah, there's it's weird weird people.
But I I'm hooked up through S video right now because it's as good as mine goes.
Thanks thanks to that guy for asking.
Yeah, yeah, it was.
It accrued to me, I'm like ship hower of in these eyes.
I haven't heard him acual.
He kind of freaked out for a while and it seemed like he, I don't know, got over it, so I wasn't sure if he just adjust The guy it's a doctor quote unquote.
Doctors said it would just go away and just don't don't go holistic on it, honest, just yet.
It's not it's not holistic.
It's guys like it'll go away.
It's not.
It's not time for Christian science just yet.
It's always time for Christians.
Let's work it out.
The reading room callses it like, Isaac D.
Yeah, you definitely, if you know, you gotta start using the that's right, glaucoma medicine.
Don't do it around me.
Isaac D.
From Wilmington, Delaware.
I was wondering if you guys knew who owns the cruise in that name.
These days, I'd love to see a little more exotica in my racing.
Thanks.
It was a Nintendo publish.
Those areas Midway Midways are midway games.
So you think Warner ended up probably yeah, I mean, well not necessarily thought some of that, but that seems like one that I mean because war bought like a lump of the stuff, right, They basically took over everything that didn't get sold in that other ways Microsoft by hydro Thunder.
Yeah yeah I think so, yeah, I think yeah, they create they released that one, Yeah they did, and they bought that license.
They owned that.
Okay, like all that stuff just went up for an auction.
That yah, it's just I think Warner took the lion's share of it, right, Yeah, but I'm pretty sure that seems like still something.
It also seems like something that someone might actually bid for ahead of the Warner buy out.
So I guess we don't know, but my guess is it's most likely with Warner.
It's so crazy.
Yeah, I was gonna say, it's so crazy that that like that none of that.
Yeah, Patrick, let's find out if we can even I can do that, even learn that ship, because because it struck to be a while ago, like how does this not all just like easily accessible public information?
It is there is a trademark database and I can just go because you have to dive into the awful world.
Yeah, that's marked database when news gets real desperate.
And then I started going through patent databases.
I know that like maybe I needed to like sit down and come with a new ideas when I find myself going through again, I can find that out if you wanted to, if you wanted to get into the racing game, and so I think there's probably the worst ips you could do it with and cruising right, I just know, what would you do with this kind of thing?
Is it was part of the tech of its people remember that name, yeah, and send the song the song and cruising USA was great.
Cruising it's not as good as not as good as the Blacks, not as good as Holy shit, the Black Night two thousand song is so fucking good.
Oh my god, if they could, if they could just recut Brave Heart or any sort of sword fighting anything that's music, I don't care.
That's my new everything.
Trailer music is the Black Night two thousand music.
You put that on fucking anything, and it's amazing.
Probably, probably I would play I would play Brett.
I would play machines that were just near Black Night two thousand machines, just so I could hear the Black Night two thousand song.
Come on, it's so goddamn triumphant.
Was that machine for sale?
There were a couple of Black Night two machines, multiple and I don't believe that no one is selling their Black Night or no at least or not that fronting like they are selling, because that's just something you don't sell those get a hold of that.
Those are treasured items.
One of those was autographed, not by ed one of those.
Yeah.
Anyway, I bring up California Extreme because this next email comes from Eric and Dublin California at California Extreme.
The other day, I spotted Ryan and Jeff playing the Grid.
It's true I mentioned earlier we played with that happened we played with with ed.
Unbeknownst to them, around the corner, one of their opponents was also playing an iPhone game between matches and sometimes while the match was going on.
This person appeared to be about twelve years old, and as such I believe represents the future of gaming.
While for the future, I also it also made me think in which two games could best go together, would would go best if you had to play two at the same time.
Currently, I'm playing Assassin's Creed, Brotherhood and Torch Light.
I don't have the strength to try it, but it seems like a good combo.
Your thoughts trying to think.
I've definitely played like turn based games in between levels of like real time game.
Let's just say, like play some Quake and then play a little x Colm in between.
Nothing that elaborate, but you know, it's usually like game running on PC or I don't play some bad Minty.
Yeah, yeah, I've definitely been like playing you know, I probably played like bullet Storm and Dungeon Raid at the same time at some point.
Yeah, you know the obvious example, they put the Jeweled right into the world of Warcreshure likes it's in there.
But so this actually made me think that I saw this happening elsewhere where.
There was a kid playing like fucking crazy Climber or something while he had his open DS in one of his hands.
Nice I was, yeah, I was like, fuck, like this, this arcade machine is not enough for you.
It's like, no, I need something else going on over here.
Yeah, I need That's awesome.
It was.
It was crazy to me because I'm like, I just yeah, I put it playing all my attention into playing pac Man as well as I can because I'm an old man, right, I can only do one of these games, That's right.
That was That was definitely one of those like seeing that, I'm like, oh man, that kid is super young and I'm way old.
This is this, This is not enough to keep his attentions so used to the high levels of input like pac Man.
Some bullshits like oh yeah, Dot's great ghosts yawn, I want to go back up to the fifth floor, get down on some trees.
Yeah, make these games of them more fun.
David from Cincinnati for their anniversary Bungee Headed promotion where they sold random bags of swag from their office with the proceeds going to charity.
I got one and it contained a sealed copy of Super Marathon for the Apple pippin nice wishing.
All of my research on the internet suggests pretty dang hard to find.
I'm not really a rare game collector, so I don't know what to do with this thing.
Selling on any base seems wrong to me.
Should I just hang onto it or some obscure pipping for him on the internet and see if any real collectors want it.
I'd check out and see what's worth and just hang out of him.
Man, Yeah, get a pipping, Okay, go down that path.
That's got it.
That's a that's a good.
Also, if you find a form with like pipping enthusiast, like, let me know because I'd like to read it.
You want to know what I just want to see that communities up here?
What's the piping crowd talking about these days?
Homebrew?
Yeah, guarantee?
Yeah, apporting some modern thing to the pipping I saw somebody on Twitter.
I want to say it was Chris Hohler, but I can't remember.
Somebody was posting pictures of a Nintendo World Championship cart old one last week.
Yeah.
So this this guy, Steve, Steve Lynn, our our guardian angel during California stream, has a nearly complete, really set of Actually I think it might be the gold cart is the only thing that he's missing from his collection is like, that's like the Holy Grail, right, Yeah, that's like that's rowing up, you're steak and going to Vegas.
That's yeah.
Were those things going hundred cares?
Was ten?
Like ten grand It's but it's like, yeah, oh yeah, because that's uh.
That Namco power pad game was like, yeah, officially the most valuable video game ever sold, and that was like forty grands.
Yeah, you didn't hear about that.
The game they became what did it?
What did they rename it?
They rebranded it.
It was rebranded his Nintendo's own power pad like Track and Field.
What was the name of it was the game that came out with it.
It was Worlds like World Class Track Meet or something like that.
It's the thing that looked like like Track and Field and you probably call it track and Field, but it was not tracking field.
Like they basically shipped like wasn't it some small number like a couple of hundred copies or something something like that, and then Nintendo and then like they were like they were just like, hey, we're gonna put this out with power pad, like yank it off shelves, like like the couple hundred gets sold or whatever, like some some lady sold like a sealed copy for like forty thousand dollars.
My goodness, yeah, craziness.
Uh, it's gonna happen to meet some day.
Somebody's gonna want to buy my not sealed copy of I was gonna say, Minimony Shicato Tambourine for PlayStation one.
So when you die and we have to go and sit through all your ships, oh man, Yeah, I got the sealed copy of Mister Mosquito Tony for the Lisa.
I'm pretty sure mister Mosquito never came out for the Lisa.
Are you sure?
You know what?
I'm pretty sure he's almost certain, So I'm I'm pretty sure, and I'm almost certain whatever you're I can nearly guarantee that snitch not a cop.
So I don't have to tell you if I am Tony from Lafayette, Indiana worse than it's because you can't tell.
I don't have to wear bad Cops from from mile away can smell him.
Snitches, we're everywhere, man, Be careful what you do, sitch A snitch thro I'm so sorry, so so oh my odd being an unintentional snitch, the worst kind of snitch you got.
I know, I know, yeah, exactly, I got zero out of it.
It was not my intention.
I know.
Every time I watched a cop procedural feel for the snitch, feel for the poor snitch, kindred spirits.
Now think of the snitches, you guys, just think of them, Okay, I'm thinking of him.
Tony rights in to say I had the opportunity to buy a near mint conditioned Bad Dudes Versus Dragging Ninja arcade cabinet for four hundred dollars.
Stop you right there, Tony, for to bucks too much for a Bad Dudes arcade machine.
If it's in super dope shape and the monitor is great, I could see paying four hundred.
But I see why I already told him, offering him to offer him three hundred.
Yeah, I mean, yeah, try and haggle, go and offer him three hundred because four hundreds just it seems like seems to be the way to start.
It's that stuff.
It's there's a good, a decent double Dragon machine for three fifty there.
But you know, it's it.
We're probably just spoiled coming straight off California Extreme.
And and you know, if if you go and look on Craigslists, like there are the places that have like the retail storefronts that are charging way too much money's crazy.
And most of the stuff on eBay is also way it's over pretty wild.
Yeah, it can.
It gives you an inflated sense of what those that stuff is actually worth.
And then you go and then you go to calif Extreme.
But and and again, like I'm sure there's a density to the amount of arcade machines in this area that a lot of other places do not see most of the places.
Yeah, it's the reason why they had the California Extreme where they have it.
A lot of them are made right there.
Yeah, that was the birthplace of good, good number of those machines for sure.
Yeah, I'm gonna I'm just gonna say, Tony for a little I don't know, man, if you're feeling it, if you're like if you weigh into bad dudes, how but I mean again we act quick look though, so yeah, you can actually your value proposition, you make it too bad.
It's longer than Double Dragon.
That's I mean, that's more of my point.
It's like, you know that cab that easily converts to a Robocops of that era?
Probably right in sure, rob Cock is pretty good.
Plenty of other games that are.
It wouldn't even non dated stype.
It would drop right now, probably like narc you do you have to say that, Well, dude already owns a Neo Geo Cabinet with Sam Show two in it, So so he's done.
Don't find any other games.
You got it, you have it.
You got Sam Ruschi on Too Finished.
Yeah, I was gonna say, Patrick, I got Sam us as the owner of the Neo Geo cabinet.
You kind of buy law, I have to own a copy of Sam Show too?
How much just Sam Show two costs like ten?
Yea, Yeah, it's one of those I need to get.
No, it's it's eBay, it's relatively easy to find.
I want to get King of the Monsters.
Yeah, it's probably not too hard.
Like like, that's the thing is like most of the like, most of the great games for that system are the ones that you would see, or at least most of the games that you want are the games that you would see.
Fucking every right, the ones that would be in those like six switch cabinets or four switch cabinets, those are the ones that are all in my installed memories, except from Magicians Lord and Nam seventy five.
I'm Gonna Get Hi Back.
I gets the Owner in a nap seventy five Magician Lord, I never loved that game.
Yeah, I never thought it was great.
Get the Superspies the first person you can got in the face, kick a guy in the face.
Superspy is fucking awesome.
That Get cross swords, Yes, super Spiling you got swords.
Yeah, I'm a guy in the face now, I'm seventy five second time on this podcast?
Anybody, anybody?
We were just talking about seventy five second God, I was so yeah, we were just looking awesome.
I was so thinking about something else, all right, but we can't talk about yet.
On that note, turn off, they pass cyber lip.
I gotta redeem myself here, how about cyber Lip.
David and I played cyber Lips start to finish at the California Extremes One.
You couldn't think of telling me the Double Dragon there's a trench in that game.
Well sorry, I mean there's a mobile there's a mobile walking platform.
You guys just snitched on double phone.
Yeah, welcome to the club jet No.
I actually told those guys when I saw him on Sunday, I was like, you should go play Cyberlip because I think you guys got a you know, lawsuit.
It's in there for like a splits like two seconds or something like that.
But I looked at it when like a right platform, that are you know what?
Probably Cyberlip too.
That's an easy license to pick up.
So that's what they'll just rename the European original.
That's a pretty good name done.
Cyberlips terrible names, So it's a terrible name until you played deep enough into it and then you see a pair of metal lips talking to you and it's the Cyberlip and you're like, oh, this is great, Like there's literally yeah, it's not just literally cybernetic lips in that game.
I want to hear any computer that tells you at California strang it tells you that it's not evil, that it was just programmed bad.
There's programmed to do bad stuff, but it's not inherently evil, like okay, cyberlips.
And then you blow up cyberlips and then the president who's beginning of your missions along his eye school red and he says mission accomplished that Oh no, oh no, Ronnie, damn, you should not rescue that guy's regardless of how much he loves cheeseburgers.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha fuck you, Ronnie.
All Right, that's it for emails.
Thanks everyone wrote in BombCast at giant bomb dot com is the address.
We're playing two on Thursday night throw down this week.

I've seen him Pippin for three.
