Episode Transcript
[SPEAKER_03]: We're just getting started.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think there's going to be a lot guys that under the port.
[SPEAKER_03]: I want to be surprised to see it end up at 25 guys at the portal.
[SPEAKER_00]: That number is going to hashtag keep climbing.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be the only thing that climbs for Florida State this year.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's a good one.
[SPEAKER_08]: That was good.
[SPEAKER_08]: That was good.
[SPEAKER_08]: That was a good one.
[SPEAKER_08]: That was good.
[SPEAKER_08]: That was good stuff.
[SPEAKER_03]: Good job.
[SPEAKER_08]: I want to connect pocket.
[SPEAKER_08]: Let me keep you around for another week.
[SPEAKER_03]: This is funny thing he said on purpose in like a year.
[SPEAKER_05]: Hey guys, it's Tersten and you're listening to hear the Spear presented by no game day, go those.
[SPEAKER_06]: Hey, what's up, the Spear's War, aka, he goes in the house, so listening to hear the Spear is in about no game day, go live, go knows.
[SPEAKER_05]: Hi, this is Charlie War, and you're listening to hear the Spear, go knows.
[SPEAKER_06]: This is 12 luckily, listening to hear the Spear, listening by no thing day, no bloody.
[SPEAKER_05]: But perhaps better known as the greatest corner to ever step in a football field, beyond prime time standards.
[SPEAKER_05]: Great, it's beyond standards, my brother.
[SPEAKER_05]: Let's go, no, man.
[SPEAKER_05]: I can wake up to that greedy every day, man.
[SPEAKER_04]: That was awesome.
[SPEAKER_04]: Hello, those fans, this is former Fimano Derek Brooks, the year listening to Here's The Spear, presented to you by no game day.
[SPEAKER_05]: James Wilder Jr.
[SPEAKER_06]: What's going on, James?
[SPEAKER_06]: The prince will have to be honoured after the T-Port of Peter Dodge, and go nose.
[SPEAKER_06]: William Barnon, boy.
[SPEAKER_06]: Gentlemen, what's up?
[SPEAKER_08]: Florida State has a lot of news and it's a very busy, busy December for the Florida State.
[SPEAKER_08]: So most of the Florida State has reportedly found its next running backs coach with Cam Martin.
[SPEAKER_08]: We're going to give our thoughts on that one.
[SPEAKER_08]: We got some updates as well on the defensive side of the ball for the state's projected new.
[SPEAKER_08]: quarterback's coach as well with Brandon Harris.
[SPEAKER_08]: We've also got some news on the general manager position for Florida State in the front office.
[SPEAKER_08]: Derek Ray is a target for the UCLA job and that's same role.
[SPEAKER_08]: We've also got some updates here from Michael Alford and the seminals doing a lot of work here working with a former Philadelphia Eagles executive [SPEAKER_08]: to help give them a full evaluation of the program.
[SPEAKER_08]: We'll give you the whole rundown of that as well.
[SPEAKER_08]: And what that means for Florida State, then to transfer portal, transfer portal, transfer portal.
[SPEAKER_08]: There are some interesting names that have entered off of Florida States or planning to enter off of Florida State's roster, including a starting, [SPEAKER_08]: Defender as well that made his announcement I believe earlier today.
[SPEAKER_08]: But with me this evening is awesome.
[SPEAKER_08]: Vizzie are lead basketball writer at nogney.com and then does notice our editor and chief gentleman.
[SPEAKER_08]: It sits, it's going.
[SPEAKER_08]: This was a very, very, very busy Wednesday for Florida State all across the board.
[SPEAKER_08]: How are we doing?
[SPEAKER_01]: never slows down does it I mean it really feels like the last three days there's just been a ton of stuff flying out the shelf whether it's coaching changes or now obviously guys are putting their intentions out to enter the transfer portal and that's still a couple weeks from officially getting started in four to state being in contact with some of the transfers out there so like I like I said on Monday four to state might not have a football game scheduled but it's as busy a new cycle as ever.
[SPEAKER_03]: especially these next few weeks and there's me a lot of guys that either announced their intentions to clarify the draft going to transfer portal, coaching changes, all sorts of stuff.
[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, let's slow them down.
[SPEAKER_08]: Dude, whenever you have a tradition from the roster, I mean, whenever other guys are putting their name on the other side, it immediately becomes to where four states starts loading up their hotboard, it's just like you are in the NFL and you're getting ready for an NFL draft.
[SPEAKER_08]: You got to figure out your top targets in which position they're going to be at, but also two floor to state is still trying to [SPEAKER_08]: Rehauled this staff a little bit they already did a lot of that what their new coordinators and a few assistants last season, but now you're doing a lot of that expected it's leaning towards where you're going to be keeping those two coordinators with Gus Malzon Tony Weight potentially you know fully coming back.
[SPEAKER_08]: and you're now bringing in some new assistance there, both offensively and defensively, and how does that affect, you know, what type of personnel you want.
[SPEAKER_08]: There's a lot of moving parts, and then too, the front office.
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, there's a whole ton of things happening off the field that this program is going through, just hoping that they can have a balanced back season in 2026.
[SPEAKER_08]: So if you're here with us on YouTube, or appreciate y'all hanging out with us, if you have any [SPEAKER_08]: throw those into the chat.
[SPEAKER_08]: We'll try to get to as many as we can get to this evening, but like I said, let's go and get started.
[SPEAKER_08]: We've got a lot to talk about.
[SPEAKER_08]: So Florida State is looking for its next running backs coach, and it seems like they might have found their guy with Cam Martin.
[SPEAKER_08]: who was Tulsa's running backs coach, also to the associate head coach there at Tulsa.
[SPEAKER_08]: He actually played running back at Auburn.
[SPEAKER_08]: You finish with 1564 career rushing yards there.
[SPEAKER_08]: He previously coach at UCF, also at Texas State, and then joined Tulsa in 2024.
[SPEAKER_08]: He also coached at [SPEAKER_08]: The corner word in Cartet he actually was able to lead did that's tough that's not it's not tough It is not it is not it is not it.
[SPEAKER_03]: I was born.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I guess I'm sure out with that incarnate word It's where cam board was before Washington state.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_08]: Okay, wait a and a [SPEAKER_08]: He helped that they actually set a single season rushing record during their top ranked FCS scoring offense in 2022 at UCF in 2023 the night ranked number four nationally and rushing to 128.2 yards per game of course as we know [SPEAKER_08]: He coach RJ Harvey who had two really good seasons for UCF in 2023.
[SPEAKER_08]: He ran for over 1,400 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns and 2024.
[SPEAKER_08]: He did even better with 1,500 and 77 rushing yards, 22 rushing TDs and total of 25 touchdowns on the year and was selected and the second round to Sean Payne in.
[SPEAKER_08]: the Denver Broncos.
[SPEAKER_08]: So here we go David Johnson moves on off to Arkansas and as we always feel like it should be for the state should always be able to recruit pretty heavily and strongly and the running back room and they feel confident seems like what they would get out of Cam Martin.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think this could be a sneaky, good hire for Florida State like you kind of said a couple of minutes ago Logan, you know, I think this pretty much guarantees that Gus Malzana is going to be returning to Tallahassee as offensive coordinator in 2026.
[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously bringing in another guy that has those UCF ties coach alongside him as a position coach for a couple years in Orlando.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then obviously like you also talked about played for him for four years.
[SPEAKER_01]: at Auburn and, you know, only has been a position coach now for four seasons at the college level.
[SPEAKER_01]: You kind of went through some of those stats that he was able to put up at those previous programs.
[SPEAKER_01]: All four years, he's had a running back eclipse the century mark and, you know, two of those were RJ Harvey at UCF also had a guy at a tree.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's definitely not a tree in the market.
[SPEAKER_01]: It trees a hundred.
[SPEAKER_08]: So they ran.
[SPEAKER_08]: Well, right from hopefully you're one of your right there, I guess, but I think that was a little more than a hundred yards though.
[SPEAKER_01]: 1000 yard mark also had that at that at Incernant Ward and at Tulsa as well, this past season.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, he's had guys produce.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's still to be determined as far as the recruiting trail is a Texas native.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you'll get some ties there as you add him to the coaching staff.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think the biggest thing is just he already understands what it takes to coach under Gus Mazzoni's work with him for years and that should make it a pretty seamless fit with him coming over to Florida State.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but when you're yeah, it was at least a decent recruiter and this is just a complete unknown as far as this higher and to be honest, I don't know why we want so many former UCF coaches on this staff.
[SPEAKER_03]: I get that there's familiarity and I get that they [SPEAKER_03]: that last year that they're all there together in Orlando wasn't exactly an example of that, so I don't know why you want so many UCF coordinators and coaches on staff, because now it's your wider seabers, running backs, online, offensive coordinator, and as we'll get to in a minute, it's going to be your new DBs coach.
[SPEAKER_03]: Now obviously, that's the other side of the ball, but it's like, who's really making the decisions?
[SPEAKER_03]: Is it even Mike at this point, which, granted, not many people would be upset about, but to be awesome what Gus making the decisions at this point.
[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, I think I mean, I think a lot of things are steering direction where Mike's not going to have really much of a say so and a lot of things.
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, it didn't feel like he had a lot of say so to certainly offensive that that he'd be a little bit more hands on offensively this last season, but man watching him at games being in person and seeing on the sideline yet nothing at all say so what the hell is going on on offensive side of us.
[SPEAKER_08]: So he's he's completely off of that.
[SPEAKER_08]: And then you add into where we're going to talk about in the front office here in just a minute where he don't I don't think where the general manager is going to be pointing to minor well on that that's going to be going into the opposite route of going to your athletic director with Michael Alford, but that's another conversation we'll have here in a minute.
[SPEAKER_08]: But the thing is, I mean, if you, you see I've didn't have the greatest of years there at the end of Gus Miles on the one thing that you can say is RJ Harvey was an absolute beast for you.
[SPEAKER_08]: But you also got to understand the personnel what forced it currently has in its roster.
[SPEAKER_08]: What is that going to look like and change wise?
[SPEAKER_08]: Because I think the rotation that era should be over.
[SPEAKER_08]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_08]: We don't know.
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, this team amazes us sometimes in the decision-making.
[SPEAKER_03]: But is it made the right word?
[SPEAKER_08]: I have to, I don't know, it could be a, you know, not a good thing, but [SPEAKER_08]: You know, with that, you know, RG Harvey was your RB1.
[SPEAKER_08]: That was about it.
[SPEAKER_08]: That was your only running back that that team was gonna be putting out there practically.
[SPEAKER_08]: And that's what you would expect with Cam Martin rolling into Tallahassee that he is going to solely focus on one running back.
[SPEAKER_08]: And for that case right now, I think you start off with Usman Kroma.
[SPEAKER_08]: I think you like what you have with Samuel Singleton, but you don't know yet of what you have with Cam Davis and of course you brought in a freshman in this last class as well.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, at the same time, I think four to say it's running back room.
[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, a little bit different than what they're working at a UCF, a little bit deeper.
[SPEAKER_01]: The big thing is you are going to have to cut down on that rotation and really settle on to maybe three guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: It can't be like this past season where there's five, six guys touching the ball and the first have.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think they, they really need to trim that down and they would probably help the running game because, you know, it just became really inconsistent and out of whack as the season went on.
[SPEAKER_03]: they need to prioritize Sam Singleton and Chroma in that room, you know, they showed you a lot this year, and the rotation didn't make sense as good as Gavin Sautreck was, you know, even his playing time and snaps and carries bounce it over the place.
[SPEAKER_03]: So they got to really just settle on two or three guys.
[SPEAKER_03]: I know Logan, you mentioned on Twitter earlier, you'd like to see Kim Davis be a part of that rotation.
[SPEAKER_03]: This point, I just, I don't, we don't know if he can be in that rotation because he's hardly played.
[SPEAKER_08]: Well, that was more of me, not necessarily what that rotation would be, but more of your retaining.
[SPEAKER_08]: Like who you need to retain, ranking those guys, you know what I'm saying?
[SPEAKER_08]: So like having Usman, that is who should have, this season should have had a lot more carries on a consistent basis.
[SPEAKER_08]: No matter if he's not showing you what you want to see off the first drive, the second drive and such, you want to just get him out there and you also put a lot of money behind him resources right there.
[SPEAKER_08]: So why not utilize him as much as possible in Samuel Singleton out of nowhere after the [SPEAKER_08]: He was your starting running back, what's absolutely stunned to everybody, like what the new world is going on.
[SPEAKER_08]: Play to him.
[SPEAKER_08]: And yeah, and he played well, that's why I think, like we've been talking about here, RB1 and RB2 right there is what you got, and that's what you work with moving forward.
[SPEAKER_08]: We'll see what happens with Cam Davis.
[SPEAKER_08]: He was dealing with injuries, this entire season, and he got in a little bit here and there and played some special teams and such.
[SPEAKER_08]: But I think that rotational, [SPEAKER_08]: scheme has got to go, and that's got to be it, and moving forward.
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, not dead.
[SPEAKER_08]: I think that's what we were kind of thinking might happen going in this season, but like you said, Dustin or in this last season, it's too loaded.
[SPEAKER_08]: There's just too many guys there, and Gus had to play that many, and, um, but it didn't have to, but he did.
[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, I mean, he didn't really have to.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but it's also, you got to put your best players on the field.
[SPEAKER_03]: And clearly, wasn't going to be a receiver.
[SPEAKER_03]: So might as well place seven runbacks.
[SPEAKER_01]: No.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're putting your best players on the field, Roy Dell Williams ain't coming back in in November.
[SPEAKER_03]: No, that's that's that's you know, that's valid.
[SPEAKER_08]: But it seems that this guy, you know, with Cam Martin, that this guy, he wants to roll with one.
[SPEAKER_08]: And he wants to stick with that one.
[SPEAKER_08]: And you know, if you need a lift, [SPEAKER_08]: If Usman or whoever it is, but I would lean on Usman's side because I think there's a lot of upside with him in a very high ceiling, then okay, he's tired a little bit, then you throw in Samuel Singleton who was proven that he has some talent and it was a starter for you at the end of the season.
[SPEAKER_08]: But that two Florida State is I'm right now and it seems to be right now your next running backs coach for FSU.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I mean, it wouldn't surprise me if there was some friction between Gus Malzon and David Johnson with the way the running bags were used throughout the season.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think, you know, with Cam Martin coming over.
[SPEAKER_01]: Martin and Mouson are going to be much more aligned with what they want to do considering that previous experience.
[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I do have hopes for him on the recruiting trail was able to sign a four-star running back there at UCF who had offers from multiple power for programs, Octavians, Swint and the last recruiting cycle also landed Stacey Gay to with someone that had a lot of interest on the recruiting trail as well.
[SPEAKER_01]: So early on, you know, we'll see what he's able to develop him to.
[SPEAKER_01]: I will say, yeah, you know, he was also the recruiting coordinator at four to state.
[SPEAKER_01]: very liked personality around the building and with recruits and with the media, but also think the effort there has been a little bit lacking in the last couple of years.
[SPEAKER_08]: Well, let's get moving here, Florida State on the defensive side of the ball reportedly grabbing Brandon Harris from UC after defensive backs coach over there.
[SPEAKER_08]: He is the brother of Tim Harris.
[SPEAKER_08]: He's the Yterseyvers coach for Florida State.
[SPEAKER_08]: He now joins his brother.
[SPEAKER_08]: And Tallahassee, this was first reported by ESPN's Pete Thamel.
[SPEAKER_08]: But like I said, obviously, he's been there already with.
[SPEAKER_08]: his brother, but also to, well, and Tallahassee with Minor Valley was there in 2020 as a defensive analyst for Florida State.
[SPEAKER_08]: They spent just one season at UCF, where that secondary rate, number 25 nationally, and passing defense, allowing 185.1, passing yards per game, and creating nine interceptions overall.
[SPEAKER_08]: On Monday, actually Harris was selected as AFCA's 35 under 35, [SPEAKER_08]: which signals these viewed as an up and sat up and coming uh...
young head coach or head coach a coach there what he all starts on this pick up here um...
you know a lot of moving parts here of course with the pastor tan uh...
firing dismissal whatever you want to call it and we're already seeing what this is doing to the defensive back room with the transfer portal and we'll talk about a starter uh...
entering the transfer portal later on in this episode [SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, I still don't like for a state moving on from Patrick Surtan senior, but I will say bringing in Brandon Harris as a replacement.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, definitely some high upside here you're getting in a younger coach who is going to bring in a lot of energy.
[SPEAKER_01]: to this program and he's been on an up and up trajectory here over his last couple of years, you know, you mentioned his stop at Florida State in 2020, as a defensive analyst, that was the beginning of his coaching career and since then, I mean, he just continued to leap forward across the state of Florida, the cornerbacks coach at FIU in 2021, then was the cornerbacks coach at Florida Atlantic in 2022.
[SPEAKER_01]: ended up earning a code defensive coordinator title and then played in the 2024 season service or interim defensive coordinator for a couple of games before moving on to the defensive backs coach job at UCF.
[SPEAKER_01]: This past season he's developed multiple all-conference selections throughout his career.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think the big thing is you just have these now ties across the state of Florida that he brings and Miami native play for the hurricanes was selected in [SPEAKER_01]: And I fell draft and you know, he's been here at Florida State before.
[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously the brother of Tim Harris Jr And I'm sure those two guys have been in communication.
[SPEAKER_01]: So he's gonna know what to expect once he gets to Florida State and the recruiting Chopped City showed so far.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I've been decent.
[SPEAKER_01]: They always they have to get better But since he's here in the Sunshine State has been coaching here now for over half a decade that can only be useful as he makes his move over to Florida State [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, absolutely recruiting and developments still a little bit of no known just because he's bounced around so much.
[SPEAKER_03]: He hasn't been able to put his feet down and really, you know, multiple of these players.
[SPEAKER_03]: But like you said, I kind of like the upside here, where yes, it's another UCF coach, and maybe that's something we want to go after, but he's been over the state of Florida.
[SPEAKER_03]: He's obviously got these ties all over the state and, you know, again, another former NFL corner like Sir Tan was that there's at least some similarities there.
[SPEAKER_03]: I still think there's more to the Sir Tan story that we don't know yet.
[SPEAKER_03]: And maybe we'll never know.
[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe that's something they just keep locked inside the football only facility for the next, how many every year's until neural gets fired.
[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, it's at least a decent swing.
[SPEAKER_03]: Again, I prefer someone to at least a little bit better, or maybe not better, but maybe more established as a recruiter, because, you know, that's something certain did do well.
[SPEAKER_03]: So, at least getting these high ranked guys in, now did they develop, that's a different discussion.
[SPEAKER_03]: So, we'll have to see what goes on here with Harris.
[SPEAKER_08]: And too, and as we do an outlook of this coaching staff so far, defensively, I think there's certainly some question marks on the future of what you look like at the linebacker position.
[SPEAKER_08]: We know what you're getting now at the edge room.
[SPEAKER_08]: You've got Nick Williams coming in, which we covered on Monday and he's going to be your past rush coach there.
[SPEAKER_08]: And that was a big pickup too for the recruiting side of things.
[SPEAKER_08]: When we did a pretty good deep dive on that and our Monday episode, if you want to go listen [SPEAKER_08]: But, you know, you're going to have Terrence Knight in there with your interior defensive lines right now.
[SPEAKER_08]: You still have John Pappuccice as your linebacker scoching out.
[SPEAKER_08]: Tony White did coach linebackers and that's where it's becoming a topic that's Tony White take over the linebackers moving forward and definitely to when you're adding in to defensive ends coach.
[SPEAKER_08]: You're going to have a handful of coaches on this staff and then you're going to keep having Cooper as your safety's coach.
[SPEAKER_08]: And like we just talked about Brandon Harris comes in.
[SPEAKER_08]: as your corner backs coach now it's just being stuck on the question mark of what happens at the second level of this defense and we know the lack of talent plus also to production recruiting on that side that at at at at department has to get better that position you're passed to improve and it's been hurting this team on the defensive side of the ball for a long time outside of the two years that you had with Kayland Loach and Tate [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's leaning that way for Florida's take, as I mean, you look at it right now, even if no further changes are made to this coaching staff.
[SPEAKER_01]: You've got 11 on field coaches, and you can only have 10.
[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously, you know, we talked about it, but John Pippuchus's contract is set to expire there.
[SPEAKER_01]: I believe February 28, 2026, so for to say, [SPEAKER_01]: they're going to have to make a decision on his future one way or the other whether that's him moving on to a new opportunity or the seminals extending him.
[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, with the recent hires, Ford has made, Ford has made, like you mentioned, Logan bringing in an edge coach to work with Terrence Knight now hiring [SPEAKER_01]: a cornerbacks coach.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's four assistant coaches there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Plus Papuchus is five at line backers and Tony White obviously six is your defensive coordinator.
[SPEAKER_01]: It seems like things are setting themselves up for Tony White to ultimately assume that linebackers coaching job and you know the calendar moving day by day.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to have a decision there one way or the other.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I have a theory that Florida State just doesn't want to spend extra money where it's not needed and just not fire someone two months before his contract sex to expire like yeah, it's probably saving them like a couple hundred thousand, but the surd team.
[SPEAKER_03]: Now they're I'm just more yeah, that's something that no reason yeah, they're maybe like I said, I'm pretty sure there's a rush that process but there's probably more behind that story was.
[SPEAKER_03]: But put you so you could probably just let walk in two months and save yourself a couple hundred thousand while he's got a really good relationship with Mike you know those two are very very very close.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but as we've talked about since then, the gym where just because you're close doesn't mean it needs to be on staff.
[SPEAKER_08]: Well, trust me.
[SPEAKER_08]: It's a loyalty.
[SPEAKER_08]: Absolutely.
[SPEAKER_08]: Shot.
[SPEAKER_08]: Mine or Val.
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, with Alex Atkins.
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, that was, I mean, how many years are you going to go?
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, we've, who we talked about a ton on this show about the 10 year of Alex Atkins and now got off of that offensive line was, but they had close relationship.
[SPEAKER_08]: And I mean, on the staff and it happened for Adam Fuller, but that was not, that was [SPEAKER_08]: more than, you know, Alex, I can shoot a bingon a little bit earlier.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I will say for to say they could very well go the other way because Tony Tokars his contract is also going to expire on the same date, same with Prince Chris Thompson, but I would imagine Tom said is likely going to be sticking around with his program.
[SPEAKER_01]: But you could potentially keep the poochess move on from Tony Tokars and then just have Gus Malzana assume the quarterback's coach role alongside with those offensive coordinator duties because I mean, he was doing a lot obviously with the quarterback's anyway.
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, throughout the season or hey, I mean, maybe four to eight.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's both of those contracts expires and they're showing out to come into the building.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's still a lot of possibilities here on the table.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, there's there's going to be a lot that unfolds.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's not just in four to state, but around college football.
[SPEAKER_03]: Because as we're seeing with Michigan right now, which out of, I don't know if you can just, oh, yeah, sure.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm more just got arrested.
[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't know we got arrested.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I got arrested.
[SPEAKER_03]: I just announced it.
[SPEAKER_03]: like he's doing this.
[SPEAKER_03]: So it it's a wild world in college football right now.
[SPEAKER_03]: So things are always going to keep changing.
[SPEAKER_03]: Like just what I do think tow cars will go.
[SPEAKER_03]: I just be just having that scene.
[SPEAKER_03]: We've seen the the opposite of development from that position for the last two years.
[SPEAKER_03]: And either going back to the Jordan China's senior year, he regressed from his junior year, you could argue.
[SPEAKER_03]: So there was times now.
[SPEAKER_03]: So, there's still going to be some things that need to be overhauled and changed, but with them, expand, why cost yourself a few hundred thousand if you don't really have to.
[SPEAKER_08]: Mm-hmm.
[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_08]: I'm going to have to meet.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: Then I'm going to meet you.
[SPEAKER_03]: It also gives them the opportunity to find jobs elsewhere, which is, I think, we're seeing with Derek Ray.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's another thing with these new hires, you know, Cam Martin coming over from Tulsa, Brandon Harris coming over from UCF, those aren't two hires that you're necessarily going to have to break the bank out of and on and instead of going out and getting someone I would say more experience like you're kind of talking about earlier VZ.
[SPEAKER_01]: Harris reportedly made about $200,000 at UCF in 2024, not sure about this season.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, I'm talking about Martin.
[SPEAKER_01]: Martin made $200,000 at UCF in 2024, not sure what he made at Tulsa.
[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, these are probably two guys that you're able to bring in relatively cheap compared to what European [SPEAKER_08]: And, you know, when we talk about the quarterback position and if Gus Mousan, and it's leaning that way, of course, that it's going to be Gus Mousan in 2026, you know, when we talk about quarterback's, the talent that you need to be able to bring in to the transfer portal is going to be very, very, very important.
[SPEAKER_08]: I just think you're, you're limited in yourself.
[SPEAKER_08]: That's what you get with Gus Mousan.
[SPEAKER_08]: You're going to limit yourself in what kind of talent you're going to bring in talking about the best talent that you'll get out of the transfer portal.
[SPEAKER_08]: They have to have [SPEAKER_08]: Someone to come in and have experience, but also too, I think they've got to have a way better passer And that just did not work under Tommy Casalana's that experiment did not work But Gus wanted him that was his guy.
[SPEAKER_08]: He wanted a really got to do whatever it takes to get a Top three quarterback out of the transfer portal that can throw the football.
[SPEAKER_08]: I think also that's you know you're you're top three Top three is [SPEAKER_08]: then I am vicious that is a vicious, but you have to.
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean you have to.
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean that's got to be a priority.
[SPEAKER_08]: If you really are about it, then that's what you have to do.
[SPEAKER_08]: If they aren't, then you're heading back to 2025 again.
[SPEAKER_08]: That's just is what it is.
[SPEAKER_08]: And I'm just saying that's what I'm saying.
[SPEAKER_08]: They're not saying that that's what they're going to do.
[SPEAKER_08]: That's what I expect them to do.
[SPEAKER_08]: Trust me.
[SPEAKER_08]: Trust [SPEAKER_08]: Gusmauzon limits you on that because you're all going to be throwing a one-wider silver and you know it's run heavy.
[SPEAKER_08]: You know what quarterbacks in a come and play that and play with that role and also to what other wider seabers when you talk about put in town around a quarterback and just you let me at yourself and such a tough way with Gusmauzon coming back in that regard.
[SPEAKER_08]: You might get some good writing backs, but that's that's just slim and there's a lot of limitations with Gusmauzon coming back and we're talking about quarterbacks specifically and then you know the [SPEAKER_08]: Like we're talking about what development and tow cars and the issues there, it's that I have not seen optimism still in the quarterback position, which Florida state has to fix that has to be fixed going in the 2026 can just be [SPEAKER_01]: I just don't think for it to say can meet the price point.
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, they probably won't.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they've tried to stick relatively cheap compared to the market for quarterbacks.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's passed a couple of transfer cycles.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's obviously ended up biting them in the back with DJ Busting and Tommy, the wheels really falling off there as a season went on, especially in those last four games.
[SPEAKER_03]: That in this in this era, this market is the last for games the best of his of his season.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he was wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: But in this market, you just you got to pay the money.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you don't pay the money, you're not getting the guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's that simple.
[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, playing in simple.
[SPEAKER_08]: And we'll talk about it here in a minute.
[SPEAKER_08]: We'll see if this former Eagles executive will tell them straight up.
[SPEAKER_08]: That's what needs to be happening.
[SPEAKER_08]: But yeah, got to find a quarterback.
[SPEAKER_08]: And now that we're starting to get starting to get some answers of where this offense is headed with Gus, you know, sticking with them.
[SPEAKER_08]: This is what you're going to get moving forward, but we'll have a lot more time to do a deeper dive on that, but we've got a lot of breaking stuff that's been happening really within the last 24 hours.
[SPEAKER_08]: Let's keep moving here, stop out some Derek Ray, let's talk about some fun office stuff, gentlemen, so we're going to start off here.
[SPEAKER_08]: This was first reported by CBS Sports in those two for seven ever, there was Zack Blost in over there, Brendan Sennon, what those guys, [SPEAKER_08]: UCLA is targeting Derek Ray to be their next journal manager, VZ, how about that?
[SPEAKER_08]: How about that?
[SPEAKER_03]: Head over to what?
[SPEAKER_03]: What's the 21?
[SPEAKER_03]: Add it here.
[SPEAKER_08]: It wasn't Tony White.
[SPEAKER_08]: It wasn't Tony White.
[SPEAKER_08]: It was always Derek Ray.
[SPEAKER_08]: That's exactly what it was.
[SPEAKER_08]: Of course, we know he joined Florida State in February of 2022.
[SPEAKER_08]: And he's had that position for the last three years originally coming from Oregon State.
[SPEAKER_08]: He helped bring over DJ Uyongole over to Tallahassee.
[SPEAKER_08]: That experience didn't go so well, but they did have a successful season there.
[SPEAKER_08]: Of course, in 2023 on the run that they had, [SPEAKER_08]: But yeah, this is this broke today.
[SPEAKER_08]: All thoughts on this one.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not officially yet, but I'm not going to be surprised.
[SPEAKER_01]: When it does go down, I think obviously both for the state and Derek Gray just need a fresh start at this point.
[SPEAKER_01]: The first two years were promising in 2022 and 2023, but since then, I mean, everyone else has caught up.
[SPEAKER_01]: The market is obviously a lot different than what it was with.
[SPEAKER_01]: NIO and everything taken center stage and now the the revshare era.
[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of stuff has changed and I don't think four to state, Derek Ray, that front office, I don't think they've adapted with how quickly everything is just expanded and you know we've seen the failures over the past couple years, obviously these past two transfer portal classes have been a disaster for four to state not just at the quarterback position but I mean multiple, well, I mean the majority of the guys on offensive defense of four to state brought in.
[SPEAKER_01]: did not live up to the expectations whenever four to state landed them out of the portal and same thing with high school recruiting from it's been been pretty rough for FSU as far as landing consistent blue chip challenge and then developing those guys once they got on campus and you lost a ton of guys uh...
right there late in the early signing period you know we can go back to the kj boldens uh...
our monto blunt Jordan pride uh...
[SPEAKER_01]: last year, Solomon Thomas, obviously, J.B.
and Hilson, Miron Charles, those are all three guys in the trenches who would probably be playing for you if they'd end it up with me, I'll say.
[SPEAKER_01]: Need those guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: Losing J.
Timons, a legacy here in this past recruiting cycle guy went on to be at five star and now is at Ohio State.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, you've just had a ton of misses, a ton of failures with the guys that you did bring in and for to say they're just not up to the standard or up to the type of speed they need to be [SPEAKER_03]: my favorite part of that tweet when it was announced this morning was played a key role in constructing the 2020 roster.
[SPEAKER_03]: He also played a key role in the 2024 roster, which was got awful.
[SPEAKER_03]: So yes, he should have stayed on the list coast to begin with.
[SPEAKER_03]: And now hopefully he can go back.
[SPEAKER_08]: Well, I felt like Florida State got lapped, and they certainly did, and it's showing that for sure here, where Florida State's acting, plays a big factor in the transfer portal as well, and was he limited and resources and having extra help on his in and was what coming into his role was as it changed, as that role changed immensely in the last.
[SPEAKER_08]: two years absolutely for sure of course you can say that but the staff did not adjust well and that is under Derek Ray that is his role as the general manager of Florida State and that's been lacking quite a bit [SPEAKER_08]: And you know, I'll always remember seeing their gray with a headset on the sidelines.
[SPEAKER_08]: I don't, I just think of Jason Light here in Tampa with a headset on, what are you doing?
[SPEAKER_08]: I don't understand that.
[SPEAKER_08]: I want to hopefully find an answer on that.
[SPEAKER_08]: I might be something I ask, Mike, if I go ever up to a kickoff ACC event if I ever make it up there for one of those.
[SPEAKER_08]: Um, and ask why is your general manager have a headset on on the sideline.
[SPEAKER_08]: I'm just trying to find exactly.
[SPEAKER_08]: I'm trying to I'm really thought about it throughout the last couple of weeks of what You need for that to happen, but that's a whole another thing that just hasn't been great.
[SPEAKER_08]: It has not been great there from that front office and You know, at least he's getting another opportunity at the same position to go over there to the west coast.
[SPEAKER_08]: If you see a great place west coast.
[SPEAKER_08]: pretty weather and all that kind of stuff, but that just it just has not worked out well in that favor.
[SPEAKER_03]: The compliments about you say that usually football may stop there.
[SPEAKER_08]: What does it say?
[SPEAKER_03]: So then that just may be where the compliment stopped with UCLA football because they just, it's, yeah, well, your program.
[SPEAKER_08]: Well, see, they need a lot of work done there, too.
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, they there was in a money handover fist like they need to get out of the rose bowl.
[SPEAKER_08]: Like, you're just going from the East Coast one over to the West Coast one to go deal with that.
[SPEAKER_08]: Those issues and those fires to put out, but, um, [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, that's the early reports there.
[SPEAKER_08]: And so we'll keep an eye on there on Dergrant.
[SPEAKER_08]: And this leads us into the next big topic of tonight.
[SPEAKER_08]: And Michael Alford, four states athletic director, has brought in former Philadelphia Eagles executive Jake Rosenberg to give a full evaluation of the football program, Michael Alford spoke with Jim Henry of the Tallahassee Democrat.
[SPEAKER_08]: And actually said to Jim Henry said that they expect an initial evaluation as early as Monday.
[SPEAKER_08]: I believe that's, you know, it's a couple of days later now, I don't think that's fully came through to Florida State.
[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, but as expected to come in this week.
[SPEAKER_08]: from that firm and Jake Rosenberg for the state doing a lot of work to try to understand where their holes are, where their issues are at and this just screams that, you know, we've been laughed, we need to catch up.
[SPEAKER_08]: What are we doing wrong?
[SPEAKER_08]: That's basically all this is right here.
[SPEAKER_08]: Um, you know, outfits that I'm looking forward to getting their report back, Mike's open to it as well.
[SPEAKER_08]: Well, Mike has no choice.
[SPEAKER_08]: Absolutely not.
[SPEAKER_08]: He has no choice whatsoever.
[SPEAKER_08]: What I found though, which is pretty interesting.
[SPEAKER_08]: So Rosenberg actually worked with Oklahoma, and we've talked about this on this show a few times.
[SPEAKER_08]: And Oklahoma did a lot of work this last off season, and you know, [SPEAKER_08]: friend of animals and Oklahoma that that season last year was let down in a major way and there was he was on the hot seat there was that fan base was not happy it was just kind of how four to stay to us with Mike or fell so they had to do immediate changes there at Oklahoma so they did and they brought over.
[SPEAKER_08]: Rosenberg and asked for his help and, you know, brought him in to do a lot of the restructuring of their front office, their NIL, how they run the transport portal, their salary cap, which is a big thing there, which he actually, Rosenberg actually did that with the Philadelphia Eagles and did a really good job at it with how he rosemen, one of the best in all [SPEAKER_08]: look where they're at.
[SPEAKER_08]: They're in the cause for all playoff a year later.
[SPEAKER_08]: I'll get a little bit deeper into that too because I've got some quotes here on him, but y'all's initial thoughts on, you know, the front office changes and, you know, what the, what the, what the state is trying to do in a really quick, swiftly fashion.
[SPEAKER_08]: Swift, quick, fashion.
[SPEAKER_08]: What are you talking about?
[SPEAKER_08]: I've got to say, well, else in, [SPEAKER_08]: now they have to now they have to.
[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, I mean, they didn't do it after NC State, but they didn't do it after a two and 10 season either.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they've really, you're at least a year late.
[SPEAKER_08]: So I guess we don't have to have to do it like right now.
[SPEAKER_08]: Like they're in urgency mode.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yeah, if you don't get a GM now, another one in before January 2nd, I mean, then that guy's really not going to have much of an influence in the portal cycle and on the 2026 roster.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that makes it seem like you're bringing in front office personnel for the posts, Mike Norville area.
[SPEAKER_01]: But.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think for the state, they're late to the party, like I said, they drag their feet, you had a year to opportunity to start doing this weeks, if not months ago, and you waited not only until after the early signing period, but now guys are hitting the transfer portal from foreign to state, your GMs, not there to have conversations with them, at least, you know, not for much longer, because sounds like Derek Ray is going to be headed over there to [SPEAKER_01]: UCLA.
[SPEAKER_01]: So just once again, um, late to the party for the administration and Taltsman for four to say bad decision after bad decision.
[SPEAKER_01]: These last couple years.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: Like I know Alfred said the evaluation process will take place after the season.
[SPEAKER_03]: Then you come out and say a week before the season ends.
[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, we're keeping Mike.
[SPEAKER_03]: And now you're just not doing this evaluation of the program.
[SPEAKER_03]: This report should have been on Alfred's desk the Sunday after the four to game.
[SPEAKER_03]: Like he should have had it ready to go.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, because let's say let's say there's a 14-0 your answers like you know what yeah But like let's say let's say this report comes back and says hey You're offensive coordinator.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not saying this is what happened.
[SPEAKER_03]: But you're offensive coordinator doesn't want our crew He doesn't care about anybody else in this building.
[SPEAKER_03]: He's just there to call plays and that's it You kind of you probably need to let him go.
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, he's got his entire front system as his position coach is pretty much [SPEAKER_03]: like it's all people that he's worked with before so now you get a clean house entirely there and we're already two weeks into December at this point you only got a couple more weeks before the transfer portal opens and you're already late to the cycle and getting all of this new stuff and like doesn't just mention you're gonna need a new general manager like it this should have been in place weeks ago this should have been in place before signing day arguably like to just be doing this now's way too late in my opinion [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, I go back to even, and I know you have situations different, they actually moved on from their head coach like they should have, and they already had their plan set up, and they got their general manager.
[SPEAKER_08]: I don't think really a plate of vital part of how long was going to take for them to find a new head coach.
[SPEAKER_08]: They already had their general manager set up ready to go and not saying that that was the perfect tie.
[SPEAKER_08]: We don't know if it's going to be the best hire for UF, but they just, and simple terms for the state, like I'll said, late to the party, and they've waited so long.
[SPEAKER_08]: to do these things and like I think it plays such a big role too in your retain your attainment because with your retainment comes in and I yell your salary how much money you're putting there in the cap for all of that kind of stuff and you would like for a general manager to be on site and teleacity to be able to handle all of those things but it might be just [SPEAKER_08]: week or two weeks before the transfer portal and it's going to be rushed very, very quickly and it's always been talked about immediate fix at least from Mike and of course from Michael Alford and media fix media fix did not happen in 2025.
[SPEAKER_08]: and you're heading to another route where I think this could be even more messy going into 2026, where we're at.
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, it's gonna, there's so many changes on the field but on the front office, there's gonna be a lot of mass, try to execute things in a very quick manner.
[SPEAKER_08]: And I think that's gonna be, I think that's gonna tell itself as we get into the season itself in the 2026.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I mean, you got a minimum of three new assistant coaches that come in in like you talk about with the front office changes that are are going to be happening at four to state.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see how many guys end up leaving in the transfer portal, but I'm I mean, I'm on the record of I don't believe this 2026 class coming in for four to eight there are necessarily a lot of guys who can make a difference from day one and you sign 32 guys from the high school junior college levels.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now you got to stack transfers in alongside them or place your entire offensive line obviously so it's a big mess and you know we're talking about how force it was retooling and revamping last year they've got to do even more work this time.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you're going to need at least three starters on the offensive line.
[SPEAKER_03]: If not four, I think all of us feel pretty good about Sam and Thompson, step it in at center.
[SPEAKER_03]: But you're, a lot's going to depend on does do's Robinson come back a wide receiver.
[SPEAKER_03]: Can you retain Chroma and Singleton?
[SPEAKER_03]: What's going on at quarterback?
[SPEAKER_03]: I think we all agreed that an upgrade needs to be made there.
[SPEAKER_03]: But is that what four to say goes on and does?
[SPEAKER_03]: They need.
[SPEAKER_03]: to starting linebackers, they need a past Russia, they need probably a defensive tackle, they need at least one starting corner, they need at least, well, safety will see.
[SPEAKER_03]: Really depends on what happens with a little there, but you need a lot of starters that aren't on this roster right now, as Dustin just mentioned, you brought in a huge signing class and none [SPEAKER_03]: They've got a lot of work to do, and they've got a lot of money to spend, and you have two, three weeks to get that general manager in place.
[SPEAKER_08]: So here's what Rosenberg did for Oklahoma.
[SPEAKER_08]: He helped guide the establishment and refinement of their new recruiting model a process that will provide best practices for other OU sports programs as well.
[SPEAKER_08]: Also mentioned what he was able to do in this 12 years with the Eagles, a critical oversight of player signings, acquisitions, salary cap, management, contract negotiations, compliance with NFLs.
[SPEAKER_08]: collective bargaining agreements, roster building strategic planning, and more, and, you know, as we head into this new dimension of college football, you know, that it becomes such an important asset for these programs and Florida State.
[SPEAKER_08]: I don't think felt like that was really of importance.
[SPEAKER_08]: or had it just in the back of their mind and we're going to procrastinate on it as long as they could and told absolutely HU alive to wear bottom tier or low tier ACC teams.
[SPEAKER_08]: We could just go and say bottom tier Stanford football programs could beat you with backups.
[SPEAKER_08]: That's that's how long they wait and it doesn't and this day and age of football.
[SPEAKER_08]: Like these these things happen very quickly and it's just [SPEAKER_08]: cut, Stanford caught up to four state with football, not not soccer, not women soccer also shout to women soccer team, national champion should start off the show with that.
[SPEAKER_08]: Absolutely.
[SPEAKER_08]: The women's incredible game, close game, and [SPEAKER_08]: one there at the very end.
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't keep the goalie.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I know she's insane.
[SPEAKER_08]: She played linebacker and she planed actually in a couple of P.B.
[SPEAKER_08]: Use for me.
[SPEAKER_08]: Shit, she could play off the edge.
[SPEAKER_08]: She could tip off some passes for me, right?
[SPEAKER_08]: But yeah, so soccer was awesome.
[SPEAKER_08]: We're not.
[SPEAKER_08]: But I says it's soccer.
[SPEAKER_08]: Four to state got beat by Stanford.
[SPEAKER_08]: And that's exactly where they're at right now.
[SPEAKER_08]: This is where they're at.
[SPEAKER_08]: And a lot of it has to do with the front office adrenaline.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I just think, and also, you know, they just, they got high on their own supply.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you had those two really good seasons in 2022 and 2023, you brought in, you know, multiple guys who didn't have very much production at their previous stops before going to Florida State and turn them into reclamation projects and send some of those guys in the NFL.
[SPEAKER_01]: You did have some guys who were like low four stars or three stars from your recruiting classes [SPEAKER_01]: guys who contributed at four to state.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they just thought that method was going to keep on working.
[SPEAKER_01]: And like we've talked about, they're just, they didn't really adapt.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't feel like the effort has been there either.
[SPEAKER_01]: And now four to say it's caught up in it.
[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_08]: So we'll see.
[SPEAKER_08]: And that reports should be coming anytime soon there from Rosenberg and his team.
[SPEAKER_08]: And I bet there's a lot that they found.
[SPEAKER_08]: How many pages you think that document has their [SPEAKER_03]: How much do you want to bet that the first place as you got to fire the head coach?
[SPEAKER_08]: Well, number one, here's your biggest issue.
[SPEAKER_08]: My name is a lot of money too much money.
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, that's what that's a whole other conversation, but yeah, we'll see what ends up happening there.
[SPEAKER_08]: Moving forward though, we got to make some Thursday night football picks shout out to our friends over there at sleeper.
[SPEAKER_08]: Gentlemen, we actually have some Thursday night football that we can make some picks on down here in Tampa, I'll be there in Raymond James, a buck's got to get back into the wind column, and they've got to find some momentum, and it has not been looking good.
[SPEAKER_08]: There's talks about Todd Bowls on the hot seat, but Baker may field what's going on there, but Mike Evans is likely to be back Thursday night, also to Jail and Macmillan, one of their second year wide receivers, [SPEAKER_08]: So, we got a little bit to work with here, gentlemen, and you get to see some Nick Cousin, Nick Cousin's Kurt Cousin.
[SPEAKER_08]: Is there a Nick Cousin's?
[SPEAKER_03]: No, not at least not to my knowledge.
[SPEAKER_08]: There's got to be a Nick Cousin's out there.
[SPEAKER_08]: Let us know in the comments if you're a Nick Cousin's.
[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know someone named Nick Cousin's.
[SPEAKER_08]: Not in the league.
[SPEAKER_08]: Now, easy pick for me though, gentlemen.
[SPEAKER_08]: I'll start us off hot.
[SPEAKER_08]: Jake London is out for this game on Thursday night.
[SPEAKER_08]: And Kyle Pitz absolutely eats up and dices up usually.
[SPEAKER_08]: Tampa Bay, they have a rough time stopping him, certainly two with how the defense is playing for the bucks.
[SPEAKER_08]: And it's Rossi Dennis, not saying that it's going to be a big loss for their lineback room that he's not going to be playing tomorrow night, but still going to have a back up there, and Kyle pitch should have a good game, and healing needs 60 and receiving.
[SPEAKER_08]: I don't know if it's juice or it depends on how kind of feel comfortable about that at all.
[SPEAKER_08]: I, last two games, 82 and 90, and this buck's defense is, then they have like 60 in the four games combined before that.
[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_08]: It's getting hot though.
[SPEAKER_08]: It's getting high and Drake London's out.
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, who else is going to throw two?
[SPEAKER_01]: When it's getting hot, that makes me not want to pick it.
[SPEAKER_08]: I would look at, well, we have no choice.
[SPEAKER_08]: We have no choice to pick the hot.
[SPEAKER_08]: What is B.
John Robinson and receiving?
[SPEAKER_08]: Can you shave him down?
[SPEAKER_08]: 25.
[SPEAKER_08]: And he's another one that usually has success against the box.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm a trusty owner comes to the box because I don't pick that for them.
[SPEAKER_03]: So y'all go crazy.
[SPEAKER_08]: I don't trust the box.
[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, don't trust the box so go the other way.
[SPEAKER_08]: Guys, all but let's may feel that like two 13 and a half and I'm like, oh, [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, I don't know about that one either, rather.
[SPEAKER_08]: I don't know about that one either.
[SPEAKER_03]: What about how can defense has been Swiss cheese though?
[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, I mean the Falcons are not a great football team either.
[SPEAKER_08]: Both are playing at an average level sadly.
[SPEAKER_08]: The bucks shouldn't win this game, but average is strong.
[SPEAKER_08]: Where we what what what what else what are we thinking here?
[SPEAKER_08]: Bucky Irving, two back to back, touched down weeks from him.
[SPEAKER_08]: So that's always in the back of my head.
[SPEAKER_08]: Chris Godwin dropped a touchdown last weekend as he bounced back.
[SPEAKER_08]: No.
[SPEAKER_08]: Katelyn's not playing in this game.
[SPEAKER_08]: So I don't know what can we do last?
[SPEAKER_08]: Might as well.
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, but are they just going to, I think I would do less if he was playing?
[SPEAKER_08]: Well, they just, uh, much more call it, push it.
[SPEAKER_08]: They might just push it if it doesn't get on there though.
[SPEAKER_03]: Also random elite jersey matchup for this game.
[SPEAKER_03]: Awesome.
[SPEAKER_03]: Awesome.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's that again.
[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_08]: No, it should be fun.
[SPEAKER_08]: It should be good one.
[SPEAKER_08]: Hopefully.
[SPEAKER_08]: Hopefully that's turn back around.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a windfield touchdown.
[SPEAKER_08]: Now I believe that was tackles.
[SPEAKER_08]: What about uh, yeah, I still like I just don't like Baker's passing right now to be honest with you.
[SPEAKER_08]: I really don't.
[SPEAKER_01]: I would say cousins.
[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, but yeah, even even going down to shave him a little bit, even down to 175 would not be a bad idea.
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, I'm just telling you, it's just not been so pretty on this defense.
[SPEAKER_08]: All right, maybe Kurt Cousins 175.
[SPEAKER_08]: Cool with that.
[SPEAKER_08]: That's still got a good times on it as well.
[SPEAKER_08]: 1.29.
[SPEAKER_08]: It's not bad.
[SPEAKER_08]: It could be a little steal there.
[SPEAKER_08]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_08]: We've got some promos, bang, easy, whoa, we can't use that.
[SPEAKER_08]: Oh, multiply our boost.
[SPEAKER_08]: We use that, no, we can't use that one either.
[SPEAKER_08]: I think we ran out.
[SPEAKER_08]: We do, we do so many picks now.
[SPEAKER_08]: We run out of, uh, I think we can do.
[SPEAKER_08]: Let's do.
[SPEAKER_08]: How would I get it?
[SPEAKER_01]: Waffling field goals on there.
[SPEAKER_01]: You want to do field goals as well?
[SPEAKER_01]: Got a feeling there's going to be some kicks in this it's Thursday night football.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's always pretty ugly Yeah, it is very short week as well Is a good picker Falcons on a young hoku anymore, so young way it's not young house young way it's young Okay young though Young hoku that young hoku it's not pronounced out spelled You cool what doing I how do you feel oh, yeah, he only needs to [SPEAKER_08]: There we are.
[SPEAKER_08]: That's got 5 for 20 bang.
[SPEAKER_08]: Easy, sleeper picks are in 5 bucks for 20.
[SPEAKER_08]: Those are locks.
[SPEAKER_08]: Easy, easy, easy.
[SPEAKER_08]: I think we got that.
[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, we got the multiplayer boost in there as well.
[SPEAKER_08]: That's why we got 5 for 265.
[SPEAKER_08]: Shout to sleeper.
[SPEAKER_08]: We appreciate them for partnering with us this season and sponsoring the show.
[SPEAKER_08]: let's keep moving here gentlemen we got a lot to talk about here to finish off the episode so we've got some transfer portal news along with some basketball to finish us off so let's start off with some names i'm just going to throw them out to you guys and we can deep dive into who we really want to the most i think there's probably just two here honestly but here the names edwin joseph [SPEAKER_08]: Florida State's starting safety has announced his intentions of entering the transfer portal from Florida State, Jalen Lucas as well for state running back speedy gadget guy, Mario Nash offensive lineman, Jamory flag defensive tackle and Thailand Coleman.
[SPEAKER_08]: Who do you want to start off with?
[SPEAKER_03]: And some walk-ins as well.
[SPEAKER_03]: Like Billy Sorris and that tight end who I already forgot his name because I didn't even know he existed before he entered the portal.
[SPEAKER_03]: Luke done with that.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know that Christian smoke white into the portal.
[SPEAKER_01]: And you got to bring it up because now all these guys count against that roster limit.
[SPEAKER_01]: So what if they...
[SPEAKER_01]: up to 10 players already that have declared their intentions to enter the portal, which you kind of need.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you only had 20 seniors on the roster last season.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you've got 10s.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's 30 players gone from four to state so far.
[SPEAKER_01]: And like we talked about, you signed 32 in that 26 class.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you still need at least two spots just for those guys before any transfers you want to bring in.
[SPEAKER_03]: We're just getting started.
[SPEAKER_03]: There's going to be a lot, guys, [SPEAKER_00]: 25 guys at the portal and number is going to hashtag keep climbing It's gonna be the only thing that climbs for Florida state this year.
[SPEAKER_08]: That's a go one That was good.
[SPEAKER_08]: That's a good.
[SPEAKER_08]: That was a good one.
[SPEAKER_08]: That was good.
[SPEAKER_08]: That was good stuff Let me keep you around for now.
[SPEAKER_08]: This is funny thing he said on purpose in like a year I [SPEAKER_08]: Of course, you know, one of the highlights of the season was him and Michael Bell going at it on the sidelines.
[SPEAKER_08]: those guys not getting along their felt like and it wasn't pretty and such but he's a solid player for you on the defensive side of the ball.
[SPEAKER_08]: He was one of your star players when we were going into the season talking about you.
[SPEAKER_08]: That's that's one big starter for you that's going to play an impact for this team moving forward and you know he's going to be leaving.
[SPEAKER_08]: I don't know and now with a lot of these staff changes course with Pastor Tan leaving you know that that's going to play an impact but [SPEAKER_08]: You know, start to wonder about a guy like Jibril Rawls, who was your best defensive back.
[SPEAKER_08]: You know, how does this continue to affect this defensive back room?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's something to watch.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, obviously, it didn't seem like very many guys who are currently on the team and recruits as well.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've already seen a blue chipper crew in the 2027 class decommet from board of state.
[SPEAKER_01]: But then seemed like very many people were pleased with that of us use decision to move on from certain senior and it didn't seem like they were informed about the move before it happened.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, guys found out on social media, just like a lot of other people.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but, you know, everyone Joseph pretty up and down, I would say in 2025, like there were some promising flashes, obviously the three interceptions, but then just some really head scratching moments, you know, the confrontation between him and Mike Morebelder in the Stanford game, that stretch of penalties in the North Carolina state game where he committed the the off sides on the field goal, and then the pass on our clearance then gives up the touchdown there.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: you know you got some good but the bad was really bad and he was always a guy that was going to need to develop what he got to four to say dealt with an early injury that knocked him out for the majority of that 2023 campaign.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's still some promise.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's still some upside there but he's going to need to get a lot more consistent and you know going to be really interesting to see where he ends up.
[SPEAKER_01]: Miami was another school that was on him heavy out of high school.
[SPEAKER_01]: Would they be interested in bringing him back down to South Florida?
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, we'll see.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's one of those that it's it seems like the Stanford game was kind of beginning with the end of his career for the state because obviously him and Mike really went at it and you mentioned the off size was really off size on the field goal and that Stanford game because that was one of the few game changing plays of that game he dropped the interception against the state that really could turn the game around just a lot of mental mistakes there the last.
[SPEAKER_03]: Five games or so that could have swam ball games and instead he's Really at the head of of some of these mistakes Cuz he even get even after jumping off sides on that Stanford field goal He was one that gave up the touchdown four Stanford on that same series.
[SPEAKER_03]: So just not a not a great last half of the season form And this isn't surprising at all.
[SPEAKER_03]: We were huge fan of his last year We thought he needed more playing time last year's one the few [SPEAKER_03]: Bright spots on that team and then he just kind of just this year.
[SPEAKER_08]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_08]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_08]: So best of luck to him there on that choice.
[SPEAKER_08]: And then Jalen Lucas over here running back that, you know, was part of that rotation would be used in a lot of sweeps and just different kinds of things that Gusman was on was trying to get creative on and you lies him coming from Indiana, which I guess he probably [SPEAKER_08]: want to leave after these last two seasons.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_08]: And Dalasi now ranked number one and the country and the cultural plough.
[SPEAKER_08]: But he's no longer going to be what this program and that starts standing out that room.
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, we know that was going to thin out for sure.
[SPEAKER_08]: And definitely, too, like we talked about earlier, I mean, this room is going to probably be headed by you know, Usman Krollmont, Samuel Singleton.
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean, there's still a question marks at four [SPEAKER_08]: Those guys, but Janet Lucas is not going to be a part of that group, and, you know, I just don't think Ford State can go the route of these gadgets with fast guys anymore.
[SPEAKER_08]: I just, I didn't get it a whole ton when they first grabbed them.
[SPEAKER_08]: That was just a little side piece to have there and just kind of fluctuate inside the offense for once or twice a game, and that's exactly what that was.
[SPEAKER_08]: And sometimes it works, sometimes it didn't, and I thought you'd maybe get more out of them in the special teams department as well.
[SPEAKER_08]: that wasn't the case.
[SPEAKER_08]: Well, so I don't think it's a major loss for four state moving forward.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, not very surprised.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, this had the potential to be a feel good story.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, bringing Jail Lucas to four to state to team up with his brother, jikai Douglas.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then obviously, he suffers.
[SPEAKER_01]: Jail Lucas suffers at leg injury.
[SPEAKER_01]: Second game of 2024 is knocked out for the rest of the season after just two games, tug my mouth and get back up the full speed in the spring.
[SPEAKER_01]: And [SPEAKER_01]: You know, the usage, just like with the rest of those running bags, I mean, it was just pretty odd for him throughout the year.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, obviously not your traditional running back, but he is able to work out the back field, try them in the slot.
[SPEAKER_01]: Some didn't feel like he was ever comfortable back there at kickoff or pump return, which was pretty puzzling to me because at Indiana, I mean, he was such a good kickoff returner's tied the program record.
[SPEAKER_01]: with three career kickoff return touchdowns.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if maybe the injury or something affected his confidence coming back this season, but just didn't look the same out there.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, yet some good, some good moments, but there are a few and far in between, like I think what for to say had a couple of good kickoff returns against Virginia Tech, but other than that didn't really do much there and obviously, you know, the pump return unit was what the pump return [SPEAKER_01]: Pump return unit was just never really got to see that explosiveness that athleticism that you thought you would from jail and Lucas made a dynamic athlete Coming into four to say and he never ended up reaching the end zone during his two years as a as a seminal So I think just disappointing to see how it worked out [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, also just don't think he got that much opportunity at kick turns like he only had like I'm got to know he had 11 total kick returns in two years of Florida State now granted.
[SPEAKER_03]: He only played two games this first year here, but that in 14 games only 11 kick returns he had 43 in his first two years at Indiana like he was a freshman all of them not even just a freshman all of your American first team all American.
[SPEAKER_03]: at kicker turn and he didn't really get that opportunity just where he really shine there just another one of the many puzzler things the staff has done the last couple years but yeah it's one of those where yes he's talented but force it can never find the right way to use him but it's also kind of hard to fix five six gadget guys in the offences especially when he's dropping passes because he dropped a few battles this year [SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, and you're in a running back room with 10 or 12 people.
[SPEAKER_08]: It feels like a times And you have wider sewers that are doing, you know, so many sweeps for you and stuff like that.
[SPEAKER_08]: It's just It's said that a staff couldn't really figure out how to utilize them and stuff like that.
[SPEAKER_08]: But another name to Maro Nash, Jemory Flag, Thailand Coleman, those guys, and her there don't really need to do a deep dive And they've never really saw Jemory Flag, big, big boy there at the fence of Tackle Maro Nash, I think it was a [SPEAKER_08]: one that you felt optimistic about what you could do with him at the offensive line uh...
position and all of us on here didn't expect much from talent calm comments and don't need to go further on him but maybe a marron ash yeah i mean four star guy coming in the four to state was always going to need to develop and [SPEAKER_01]: You know, even this year when four to say went to the reserves, he was one of the guys that never ended up seeing the field for the Seminoles opposite can be said for true freshman same man Thompson who, you know, all assembled up earlier think we're all pretty high on and he's got a potential to be a starter for four to stay there in the middle in 2026.
[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't know if you saw those same promising flashes from [SPEAKER_03]: He's actually committed there, wasn't he?
[SPEAKER_03]: If I'm not.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm mistaken.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm so he needs to add some size for sure.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think as well, but he's clear he wasn't going to start next year for Ford to stay probably not even near after that.
[SPEAKER_03]: So bye.
[SPEAKER_08]: Rehauling of the offensive line is in coming anyways and if you're looking to start I mean, there are some guys that I think curb hand likes and it feels like they can develop But there's only a few I mean, he was pretty point blank about that even going into what two weeks before the season when we spoke with them I felt like he was starting to get an understanding of who is starting five were but felt like there was maybe one if not two that he would feel confident about putting out into a game [SPEAKER_08]: for a series or two.
[SPEAKER_08]: So he's very picky on who we are.
[SPEAKER_08]: Then I like that.
[SPEAKER_08]: I mean that we did see that room and prove and that's any FSU fan will take a above average play and that's what you got from this offensive line this season.
[SPEAKER_08]: Let's finish off VZ with some basketball course, you know, not able to get that win at Houston really talented team that they're going to be facing.
[SPEAKER_08]: New that was going to be the case.
[SPEAKER_08]: But you did see better play from Luke Lox's team and you know, what can that do moving forward [SPEAKER_08]: these next couple of games.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it was good to see them in person for the first time for me this season.
[SPEAKER_03]: Got to meet all the all the new coaches all the new staff.
[SPEAKER_03]: Really good to talk with them and just get to know them a little bit.
[SPEAKER_03]: a great experience and definitely a much harder fought game than the previous two games against Texas A&M and Georgia, where they were just Molly Wopt for lack of a better term.
[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, Houston's a really good team.
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, that back court with a manual sharp and Kingston Flemmens is really as good as it gets in the country.
[SPEAKER_03]: And Florida State's just not that talented of a team, but, you know, every time Houston went up 13 or 15, Florida State would fight it back down to 5 or 6, but they could just never get back over that hump to get themselves back in the game.
[SPEAKER_03]: I was just I was more impressed that they out rebounded Houston because that's not going to happen very often this year and Florida State was down Alex standing this game he's dealing with a growing injury won't miss too much time, but [SPEAKER_03]: couple more shots follow who knows how that game goes but overall is at least please with the effort and again this is year one so you got to have some patience with this kind of stuff but as luck said in his post game press conference he says hey we scheduled this way for reason because we want our program we want our guys we want our administration to see [SPEAKER_03]: What real college basketball programs look like, what they feel like, you know, how they're built and forced, they're just a really long way away from that.
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I've been told some, and I all numbers this week and basically, you know, and I all number the four states working with us about a third to a fourth of what the other teams have.
[SPEAKER_03]: That they've played this week.
[SPEAKER_03]: So.
[SPEAKER_03]: massive disadvantage there, and they're least trying.
[SPEAKER_03]: They didn't quite like they did in the George and the Texas A&M game, and luckily it gets a little easier these next few weeks, they play UMass and Sunrise, next week.
[SPEAKER_03]: They do travel to Dayton, next week, which will be interesting, but then they also play the worst, literally the worst team in Division 1 College Basketball, and this is the Valley State, that's the same week.
[SPEAKER_03]: So a chance to rack up some wins before ACC play starts off and literally the hardest way possible.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they at least kept it competitive there in Houston and, you know, hopefully they can use these losses as a learning experience.
[SPEAKER_01]: I always say the season conference way hasn't even begun yet.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's still a lot to play for and just need to clean it up here moving forward.
[SPEAKER_08]: We'll see if they can do it for sure.
[SPEAKER_08]: We've got a lot of content coming over there at nogeny.com from VZ along with Dustin and I think he cranked what close to 10 today, just with how much stuff was going on across the board.
[SPEAKER_08]: It's just been a very, very busy last couple of weeks, but we definitely appreciate y'all hanging out here on with us.
[SPEAKER_08]: I wanted to share this with you guys on the screen.

[SPEAKER_08]: So I'm gonna have to figure out how to do that Monday after noon show up.
[SPEAKER_08]: I will for a way out to get the rundown.
[SPEAKER_01]: But, though, you try it.
[SPEAKER_01]: He went to start planning a different show.
[SPEAKER_08]: He's like, wait, and I'm in Pittsburgh.
[SPEAKER_08]: So yeah, now a lot to figure out.
