[SPEAKER_00]: Not all of our mini-celled need to be from listeners.
[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, places or lesser known cases can sometimes take us to dark realms.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of Dark Realms.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now today's Dark Realms comes to us from our listener, Katarina.
[SPEAKER_00]: So a big thank you to Katarina who suggested that we take a look into arguably one of the most famous Dark Realms that we've never covered.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that Dark Realms is the one and only Poundhouse decided in Pennsylvania.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now before we move on to this absolutely heartbreaking and emotionally terrifying as well as physically and spiritually terrifying place, I need to give a quick shout out to our wonderful team over a Patreon and if you wish to sign up to our Patreon, there are links in the show notes and you can also just go to Patreon.com forward slash the dark paranormal.
[SPEAKER_00]: I personally think it is the best paranormal community.
[SPEAKER_00]: anywhere.
[SPEAKER_00]: And yes, I'll be slightly biased, but also I've been enough to know.
[SPEAKER_00]: And believe me, this is one of the good ones.
[SPEAKER_00]: A very good one.
[SPEAKER_00]: So without any further ado, let's jump into this dark realm.
[SPEAKER_00]: And when I say jump, I mean take a very tentative step into this dark realm.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hidden in the woods of spring city, Pennsylvania, stands the now abandoned remains of Pennhurst State, school and hospital.
[SPEAKER_00]: Today we know it is Pennhurst asylum.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was opened in 1908 as a residential institution for the mentally and physically disabled.
[SPEAKER_00]: Soon, however, it spiraled into one of America's darkest facilities.
[SPEAKER_00]: overcrowded wards, neglect, and abuse plagued it for decades, and many of the residents were children.
[SPEAKER_00]: Many endured the sort of suffering that leaves a permanent stain on a human being, and on a place.
[SPEAKER_00]: By 1968, investigative journalists publicly exposed Panhas as a [SPEAKER_00]: Eventually the institution closed in 87, but the end of its operations did nothing to silence the sound within those hollow corridors.
[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, many say Penhurst only rarely came alive, after it was abandoned.
[SPEAKER_00]: Footsteps echo where no living person walks, doors will slam on the [SPEAKER_00]: and some who enter Penhurst at night into the atmosphere feels saturated.
[SPEAKER_00]: As though the walls themselves remember every scream, every heartbreak, every tragically lost soul.
[SPEAKER_00]: Today we take a look at Penhurst's three most infamous spirits, increasing in terror as we go as we like to do.
[SPEAKER_00]: and finally to a presence that many people have called demonic.
[SPEAKER_00]: These are the legends that keep Panhas alive.
[SPEAKER_00]: First, we look at Emily, the child who never left.
[SPEAKER_00]: Among the numerous ghostly tales of Panhas, one stands alone in its fragile sadness.
[SPEAKER_00]: The story of a little girl known as Emily.
[SPEAKER_00]: Many visitors and staff have reported the unmistakable sound of soft footsteps, giggles or gentle crying, drifting through the holes of a night.
[SPEAKER_00]: She is most often associated with the old administration building, and she is described as a small girl in a pale dress, sometimes smiling, sometimes desperately confused.
[SPEAKER_00]: One former employee shared a chilling experience while alone in a fog filled corridor.
[SPEAKER_00]: About two minutes in, I felt a huge tug on the back of my shirt.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hard enough to make me stumble.
[SPEAKER_00]: When I looked around, no one was there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Later, she was told that a child patient once lived and died on that ward.
[SPEAKER_00]: A little girl who was tied to a gurney.
[SPEAKER_00]: and was known to reach out for any attention from anyone who passed.
[SPEAKER_00]: Potemali's presence isn't always gentle.
[SPEAKER_00]: Another investigator described seeing the apparition of a young girl, sitting on the floor with her knees pulled to her chest, her expression twisted with despair.
[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone present felt a crushing wave of nausea and sorrow.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like the emotions of every mistreated child at Pennhurst was washing over them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Emily is a reminder, not all hauntings are seeking vengeance.
[SPEAKER_00]: Some are born of longing, loneliness, unfinished childhoods, ones who never escaped their suffering.
[SPEAKER_00]: Next we'll hear about the aptly named Angry Man, in the day room.
[SPEAKER_00]: This spirit is Panhurst's rage.
[SPEAKER_00]: Deep within the old administration building lies a once busy day room.
[SPEAKER_00]: Today it belongs to a duck and aggressive entity.
[SPEAKER_00]: One widely believed to be either the ghost of a vicious staff member, or a severely disturbed patient whose anger never faded in death.
[SPEAKER_00]: staff members have described the same terrifying pattern of activity, so didn't scratch his appearing on their arms and backs.
[SPEAKER_00]: Lockers slamming shutters, though someone is trying to trap them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Then there's the sensation of being shoved, though nobody is around.
[SPEAKER_00]: One employee described the spirit succinctly.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's not very nice at all.
[SPEAKER_00]: visitors often report an overwhelming pressure in their chest.
[SPEAKER_00]: That instinctive feeling that something in the room wants them gone.
[SPEAKER_00]: Paranormal teams have captured disembodied voices, growling the word, get out.
[SPEAKER_00]: Into their microphone sometimes inches from where they stand, but weren't heard at the time.
[SPEAKER_00]: In another building, the Philadelphia Ward, the activity became so violent, pushing, hitting, mysterious bruises appearing, that staff eventually closed the area for safety.
[SPEAKER_00]: This spirit, whatever its origin, seemed to embody pan-housed's cruelty, where despair [SPEAKER_00]: And this hate, it said, still walks it towards.
[SPEAKER_00]: But as Terry Fying is this entity, is, and it is.
[SPEAKER_00]: It pales beside the force waiting beneath penhurst.
[SPEAKER_00]: A presence feared by even seasoned investigators.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because lastly, we will take a look at the spirit's set to be the most frightening of them all.
[SPEAKER_00]: going by the name of the king, aka the tyrant of the boiler room.
[SPEAKER_00]: Below the decaying Mayflower Hall lies a basement of roasted pipes, flickering shadows and stale on moving air.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is Penha's most infamous domain, and it belongs to a spirit, known [SPEAKER_00]: The King was once a maintenance man who worked in these lower rooms many decades ago.
[SPEAKER_00]: And in death, he has become a dominating territorial terrifying force.
[SPEAKER_00]: People entering his chamber, often encounter sudden blasts of hot air, a sharp smell of [SPEAKER_00]: For reasons or no, paranormal teams often leave cigarettes on the floor as offerings.
[SPEAKER_00]: Perhaps because the King favours them, but it doesn't guarantee their safety.
[SPEAKER_00]: Witnesses describe a towering shadow figure, stalking the boiler room.
[SPEAKER_00]: The king has shoved visitors, grab them, and even in some cases seem to wrap his invisible fingers around their throat.
[SPEAKER_00]: One investigator who mocked his title was thrown violently across the room, because he's a specially hostile toward men.
[SPEAKER_00]: Women have occasionally reported gentler and cantists, [SPEAKER_00]: maybe a cold touch on the hair, or even intelligent responses to their questions, but this can shift without warning.
[SPEAKER_00]: The king is unpredictable.
[SPEAKER_00]: His anger, even more so, and especially when he's displeased, the consequences can literally be brutal.
[SPEAKER_00]: Investigators have [SPEAKER_00]: Leaves.
[SPEAKER_00]: I will kill you.
[SPEAKER_00]: A female sprint is sometimes sent nearby.
[SPEAKER_00]: Believe to be the ghost of a resident or form a patient, one who desperately tries to warn visitors to run, only for the king's growl to drown her out.
[SPEAKER_00]: Some believe the king is not human at all, but something [SPEAKER_00]: something darker and strengthened by decades of neglect, via rumoured rituals performed in the abandoned buildings in the years after Penhurst closed.
[SPEAKER_00]: But whatever he or it is, one thing is certain.
[SPEAKER_00]: The King is the ruler of Penhurst Shadows, and he defends his dominion [SPEAKER_00]: from Emily's desperate innocence to the violent anger of the day room spirit, to the tyranical king of cruelty.
[SPEAKER_00]: Panhas goes all tell a story that history alone cannot contain.
[SPEAKER_00]: They remind us of a time when the vulnerable were forgotten, locked away, mistreated, abused.
[SPEAKER_00]: fear, sorrow, rage, hatred, anger, until the building becomes a haunting in its own right.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they remind us that the past, especially a past as dark as pan-hust, very rarely stays silent.
[SPEAKER_00]: And if you go to pan-hust, you will feel it.
[SPEAKER_00]: The weight of the eyes on your back.
[SPEAKER_00]: A cold brush of air against your arm.
[SPEAKER_00]: and should you hear a deep voice whisper, get out.
[SPEAKER_00]: From the darkness, you may be very wise to listen to that voice.
[SPEAKER_00]: But arguably the most terrifying and true and provable fact of the entire penhurst of our is what humans don to the humans, allegedly under the name of [SPEAKER_00]: There are many images I could have shared on this video, that intrus, as people of any age could watch this video, I simply did not want to share, but they are out there.
[SPEAKER_00]: And if anyone has the stomach for them, and really wants to learn just how dark humans can be, let alone the paranormal, I would suggest you seek them out.
[SPEAKER_00]: And just this week we were going to do our very first look at a legendary entity or spirit, but when Katarina sent in this email about Penhast, and I read a bit more about the situation that went on there, I had to address it, immediately.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because one thing scares me when I look at this, and it's not the king, it's not the [SPEAKER_00]: history repeats and this is one history which it all hope never does so until next time here on dark realms stay safe and take care
