You know that they got the wrong charge that nigg and he ain't doing it.

Speaker 2

But that's the thing though, Killer, When you asked me that Killer like I was hysterical.

I can't think I was hysterical, but you know, bro, I can't.

I can't be in this situation.

Speaker 4

When kids is gonna see that, They're gonna be like, damn, he's now you tweaking, bro, he's gonna see that.

Speaker 3

Oh listen man, hell no, bro, like.

Speaker 4

It's a killer.

When that ship happened, I was like, I was like, yeah, that ain't nothing that my boy and on all that.

When I first saw it, I was like, I know, he good because when they was putting the ship out on the social media making you look like one thing, I was like, first of all, I know him and I know that ain't what it is.

Speaker 3

So I was like, he good.

You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 4

I know, like when they first went down, a lot of people is calling you, and I was like, let me lay back.

I'm gonna hit him in a couple of days because I know he flooded with cars.

Speaker 3

I know, my little bro, this is my bro.

Bro, Like.

Speaker 4

You know, you know he gonna holler at me eventually whin the ship like whatever, And I'm like, I know, I know he gonna be good.

So I wasn't even tripping off of it.

I was like, you know It's just a bump in the roll.

I went through some ship a couple of weeks ago.

Whatever, But I'm like, hey, that's what it is.

But I know my bro bro ain't on that ship and he gonna be good for sure.

Speaker 3

No, I ain't gonna lie.

Speaker 2

I didn't want to make this episode about that, but hey, yeah, hey, killer, that's one thing.

I wasn't in the fight nowhere.

I went't in the fight.

No no internet about me playing on my noe.

Bro Jo asked to get valated doing that dumb ship.

I didn't seen niggas get straight up mouth shots for that.

You that's what you want, and you're trying to like, come on, that ain't part of Plus my old man, my old man suffer from that for years.

He recovered.

Now he's helping people try to prevent, you know, get him up off the streets.

Now he's doing prevention for that now.

But at the end of the day, break hurt me because, like you said, my kids, like you said, I ain't want my kids having me seeing me in that light.

That ain't that ain't the hero I'm trying to be to my kids.

And honestly, bro a lot, I'm tied to a lot of ship you on out the mud right now, Yo, this season two, that ain't stopping nothing.

Man, You know what type of situation that was.

I ain't hit a to bash no police, I ain't hit a talk about race.

I ain't here to talk about none of.

Speaker 3

That to.

Speaker 2

Get locked up.

What I was going to do.

What I was going to do was part of positivity.

I was trying to teach people how to be vertically integrated.

You fee what I'm saying, and you hate hat I was in that situation.

Speaker 3

I know you.

Speaker 4

I've always know you as a stand up since my young dude always show.

So you're gonna get past this, so don't worry about it.

Speaker 3

We're good, my dog.

You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 4

God is good all the time.

You'll be right, all right.

So the things that's know need not to be said.

Speaker 3

You know, we can.

We're gonna move past all that, you know what I mean.

Yeah, that's appreciate that.

Meanwhile, let's let's let's shift gears a little bit.

Yeah.

Speaker 4

Yeah, I just want to address addressed elephant in the room.

This is you, my little bro, so we gotta talk about it.

Speaker 3

And that's the thing.

I love it running.

Speaker 4

I want to just talk about it with you and that's all but here, Yeah, a lot to lose here for your support as always, so you know that, Yeah, text you that too for you was very for me.

Speaker 3

We're all gonna listen, this.

Speaker 4

Is the thing that's us as retired ball players like, and now we go into the life where it's like it's a different life.

We gotta be for each other, you know what I'm saying.

Because we're all gonna go through ship.

Obviously I've been through some ship.

He been through some ship obviously, t A, you've been through some ship.

So like, as long as we got each other, bro, we got continued because like everybody's gonna laugh and then make negative comments when we go through ship, shut that fucked up.

Like, oh like the positives we together, bro, we get to love from each other like we having shipped, like hey, zero pull up, t a pull up and we can conversate when we're going through ship, and you know, you have like a net that you could talk to people like that.

All these outside motherfuckers don't matter to me, you know what I'm saying, because I know I got my one or two niggas that I'm like you know what, I'm gonna just chop it up with him, he and town.

But that's chopping.

It's gonna make me feel better.

And listen to these motherfuckers out here comment who don't know ship, don't know nothing about it nothing, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3

But that's all.

Speaker 2

But give us, give us some insight.

Man, what it was like growing up in Inglewood, California.

Speaker 3

Man Man Inglewood like man.

Speaker 4

So you know me born in Oakland, East Oakland and he's open shout out Cindy Man and the Hayward Man.

So like my mom was like she was a grinder, you know.

She got us from one hood to the next hood to get us to where we need to go.

Speaker 3

You know what I'm saying.

I'm the youngest of three boys from Oakland, Californa.

Moved to LA.

Speaker 4

People don't notice I moved to one hundred and eleventh and uh Normandy when I first moved to LA for one year.

Then I moved to Inglewood, so I had a chance to see the east side, see what that was about Oakland.

You understand, our Lingo is a little different from like La.

So we like, hey, what's up?

Blood as like, what's up, my boy homie, do theo.

So when I first got to La, like blood, you know, I'm blood, but I'm not on no gang nothing.

Speaker 3

It's just that's our lingo.

Speaker 4

And they was like, hey, you know, you can't say that around here because the gangs.

But that's when I learned about LA gang culture when I was like eleven years old, and so it was just like damn.

And then I moved to and then I used to wear blue shoe strings and red on two on two different shoes, so there's like you gotta choose one.

Speaker 3

You know.

I'm like like, I'm like, this is just a style.

Speaker 2

I mean, that's super goofy, but you know what we're going on, super goofy.

But you ain't know what we're going on.

To the politic, you goofy.

I ain't know that piece dress you got l A.

You know your dress.

Speaker 4

I don't give y'all the origins of me in l A.

So then after the year, I moved to Inglewood and everything.

So I'm right I heard all this because at least my cousins live over here.

So I'm like, all right, I can't say blood.

I can't do this.

Speaker 3

Bone.

Then I grew you know, Inglewood was like from sixth grade on.

Man.

Speaker 4

From that point, that's when you start learning about the other side.

Going down Crenshaw, hanging on a cre your name, you know, hanging out on Crenshaw, going to Inglewood High and everything.

Speaker 3

That's blood school.

That's blood here, Tory.

Speaker 4

But I stay a yere at Inglewood and I transferred because of basketball, go to Crenshaw.

Speaker 3

Right, listen to this the other side, that's the other side.

Speaker 4

So I go to Cresshaw and I'm like, yeah, all right, I'm gonna get a better opportunity here.

But I grew up around the blood gang.

But it's the crip gang Crenshaw, right.

So I'm there for like a week.

I'm on the bus stop.

It's a lot of trauma going on.

It's like gangs going there, beating people up at the bus stop.

I'm over here.

I'm over here, like the tallest.

I'm the tallest nigga at the bus stop.

So I'm thinking, like they might choose me, right, Dad.

Speaker 3

Like wait for.

Speaker 2

It's like.

Speaker 3

You got no hobies, right ya.

Speaker 4

I'm like, no, hold on, I can't do this.

How I was scared every day because I ain't got no hobbies.

I'm like, now I gotta go back.

It was like because you know it's economics, economics that you know what I'm saying.

So like that was like my little journey uh in La discovering and catching the crensh Off bus Manchester.

People who know from here know what that's about.

Fights, shootouts, man.

So it really developed my mentality and going to the league.

So I'm looking like, right, eat a comforts, like nigga want like hold on, hold doc, Like, well, we're just playing basketball.

But I'm coming from like you know me, like what you ain't putting no fear in my heart?

I know what fear in my heart?

Looked like it's it's some other life and death ship show.

So basketball made my mentality high yesterday.

Speaker 2

And that was my question next, bro, like like what like, I ain't gonna lie because when I look at you your throw back pictures, you shouted you was a little bad body ass motherfucker.

Speaker 3

Bro.

Speaker 2

You gotta let me know, like like what what made because you weren't athletic.

Speaker 3

I'm just saying, what how you grow that skill and the love for the game.

Speaker 4

Bron, I ain't gonna even lie.

My best friend is Jake Crow.

I'm gonna give my my boy Craw.

He wasn't my homie, I probably wouldn't have made it to the league.

Wow, I'm gonna keep it one honey about.

Speaker 3

And people know, let me get it and just put the flowers on his name.

Speaker 2

His son right now is ranked one of the top point guards in the nation right now, if not number one, Jay Crow Jr.

Speaker 3

Check him out, Crow, you will have.

Speaker 2

Man, I ain't gonna lie just to know that you're saying that bro big big sloop to Crow family.

Speaker 4

So as you saying that because Craw was in shape, he had to work atic.

Speaker 3

So this is my boy.

Speaker 4

So now I developed my work ethic through him because he was like, let's go to the dunes, let's go to the track, let's do this.

Your niggas doing that like so I'm like, I wasn't on that early.

Speaker 2

Y'are not even knowing this work at it, we not even knowing.

But he was like, let's get better, and I'm like all right.

Speaker 4

So he was always beating me in the in the in the run and up the dunes and on the beach, and it made me better because I was like, I gotta catch him, like God.

Speaker 3

Damn, he beat me every time, but it made me in better shape.

Speaker 4

It made my mental like not like then he going through this and like damn, like God put us together.

Speaker 3

I ain't gonna lie brouse.

Speaker 4

So when I look at my life story and how my path went, I'm like, dude, certain people was placed in your life make you gets where you needed to go.

Speaker 2

Sure, I feel that, bro.

I think the same like when you start.

Speaker 4

You start looking at like Damn, I met this person, I was cool with this person, and they really actually enhanced where I needed to go.

Like I started thinking about that.

So like like now when I'm writing my book and I'm making my documentary, that's an important piece of all of that.

Like like you you don't even realize that when you're going through it, but then you look back, like damn, nigga, that was my nigga because man, I was like, damn, he my homie because now I'm working harder.

I'm going to the gym with him.

He got the key to the gym, were going there late night, Like damn.

Speaker 3

If I didn't have him, I.

Speaker 4

Might not even been doing all of this to get to where I was supposed to get.

Speaker 2

Real talk did you ever think about playing any other sports or was it all I played football?

Speaker 3

You played football.

Speaker 4

I love football because you know, I grow than everybody.

I play quarterback.

I played linebacker.

I like football first.

But like I broke my leg when I was in the when I was a fourth grader, and then I broke my leg again at seventh grade.

So my mama was liked, you ain't gonna grow, or like, you can't play football no more.

I broke two bones.

Think about that, you broke two bones before you even got the mom Like, you know, he wants to tell us, like your growth gone stunt if you start lifting weights or you breaking bones.

And I was just like, all right, So I stopped for football and I just focused on basketball from from the eighth grade on till.

But my first love was football, Yeah, for sure.

Like we I'm giving a lot.

Actually, I'm giving a lot of the stories.

I ain't never told these stories.

Like, but I'm in the mud, right man, I'm.

Speaker 2

Just saying, considering the fact your brother played baseball, right, and he went to the major leagues, right.

Speaker 3

So my brother got drafted.

Listen, like, listen to this story.

Speaker 4

So like we was in the apartments in Inglewood, so you know, in a lot of great area hood not a great area.

So my brother get drafted to get in like the major leagues, like the number tenth or thirteenth, around the tenth thirteenth pick, great player Steve Ozzy.

He made a bonus signing.

He got us out and got us a house.

So now I'm in, I'm in the junior high.

We got a house.

I'm an apartment.

He got us a house.

And he didn't make it all the way to the big leagues full time, but he made enough money to keep us out of the boom, you know, to where we wasn't in the hood.

Like so I'll be looking like this is part of the story, the store.

This is part of the story.

It was like, damn, because if I'd have lived over here full time, I might have gotten too some shit and Nigga might not be here.

Nigga might be in the penitentiary or something.

The motherfucking mud.

Yeah, my brother, but my oldest brother.

So I got two older brothers.

I got one that's nine years one fifteen.

So my oldest one made it D one d one athlete, got a scholarship baseball in basketball.

My oldest so the second one got a D one scholarship in baseball.

So I come from a family of athletes that were paid for that college, and I was a D one scholarship.

So it was like my brother the oldest one made it D one, the second one made it to minor league.

Speaker 3

I made it all the way.

You see how I went.

She got them jeans, Mama, My mama got them jeans.

Speaker 4

G Mom ain't here with more.

But mom she was five ten five.

My mom was five eleven.

I don't know, because most NBA moms it's tall.

My mom was five eleven.

But like she like the right dude got her and got to the next level.

You know what I'm saying.

You know, because we got three different baby we got I get three different fathers because it was nine to fifteen and then me.

That's how many years a part of this from my brothers.

It was like my mom had the jeens.

It was just you had to get the right.

Speaker 3

When she got the right, I went all the way to the top because she got a D one athlete, She got a major league player in and out, and then she got a NBA all the way, real shit, my mom had them jeans.

God was with her.

I'm telling you my mama still watching me right now.

Man rest the peace month.

Speaker 2

I got a chance to, you know, be around moms the future.

I got home cooked meals, you know, use the O G.

You know what I'm saying when I when I made it to the league and things that that.

So I rest the peace mom, Manchester.

Speaker 4

Yeah, I had a chance to meet your family.

We all grew up together and used to live down the street from each.

Speaker 3

The Clippers.

Speaker 4

I live right down Yeah, I'll put up on the what love got damn new mister Rogers and we know that right I went over there.

Speaker 3

Yeah good.

We live right in the players west Chester.

Speaker 4

The new community built up there.

Yeah, I lived down the street from.

Speaker 2

It's another week about the mup and that means it's another week of Draft Kings, the official partner of our show, and don't forget they're also an official sports been partner of the NBA.

You don't want to miss out on your chance to make some bread today, head over the DraftKings Sportsbook, download the app and use promo code GNG.

Speaker 3

New customers who bet as little as five dollars get two hundred dollars in bonus bets.

If your bet wins, hey man, don't sleep on them same game parlay.

Speaker 2

They give you an even biggest shot at winning at the narrow And that's the code GNG with DraftKings.

Pete tell us about Inglewood, have bro tell us about your experience your freshman year through senior year and getting the notoriety that you're about to play basketball series.

Speaker 4

Yeah, but I wasn't always good ta.

I wasn't always you know, coming from nineteenth eleven.

My biggest leap was from tenth to eleven because I was just in the mixed ninth grade, tenth grade, ninth grade, played JV tenth grade.

I made they, but I wasn't.

I was okay.

But that leap that I made from tenth eleventh grade, that summer I started developing.

Speaker 3

I grew.

Speaker 4

I went from six to four to six six, and then I started develp.

I started playing with better players.

I was coming off the bench for the California Seniors to have feature Hey you yeah, I had Rinky Price, Toby Bailey, all these coming off the bench for all of them.

So I was coming to practice like watching them, like all right, you know, I see where I need to be.

But I'm saying they advanced.

They way had more advanced.

So I started getting better.

So but the Inglewood thing is the thing about growing up in Inglewood, my boy, it's like you're gonna get challenged with like life skills.

It was more than best.

But everybody so like when you go to like parks and play, because they don't play no more.

We were just talking about that they don't play.

Speaker 3

I was Monday night was our night at Rogers Park.

Yeah, concrete, not no inside.

We on the concrete, man.

Speaker 4

So like it was like, if you lose, you might as well go home.

You're gonna write your name on the board from the bone.

It's gonna be the gangsters, the homies, the hoopers, all mixed into a pickup.

Everybody mixed into the pick up because everybody hooped in the hood.

So it's like if you lose the games, every game, you know, all along, every game talk costs like thirty minutes.

Speaker 3

We're gonna like we're going every game was the seventh, but every game was thirty minutes.

Speaker 4

It was like, damn because Nigga's gonna argue they foul down.

They're gonna like Nigga.

That wasn't That was a traveler, low key a squad like damn.

So like so pretty much if you lost, if you lost, you might as well go home because the next game, you ain't gonna get on for two more hours.

So you like, that's why you have to get you a squad.

That was you know what I'm saying.

Like that built my toughness in the league, you know what I'm saying.

So that built me to my mentality like dog, like, oh, y'all play organized, because I've been growing up playing unorganized and I know the mentality you gotta have, like yeah, yeah, for sure.

So it was just like it made me who I am bro you know, and you know, I don't see that in today's game, Like that mentality to where you just like had to, like you put your life on the line to stay on the court.

And that's what I grew up on.

My mentality was so I hated to lose.

So like you know, when we came in we started losing, that that fuck with me.

Speaker 3

That fuck with me.

Speaker 4

I always been winning Inglewood, I went to Kansas, I won, I didn't win the Natal championship.

Speaker 3

Who won a lot of games.

Speaker 4

Then, So when my first time getting to the league and I'm under under five hundred.

Speaker 3

I ain't never experienced that.

You're like, man, you've been win all your life.

Speaker 2

People, So it was like, you know what, I.

Speaker 3

Was like, what the like?

What is coming up a lot room here?

Like that?

You want to get traded?

You're ricky, Bobby?

Who want to be here?

You're not happy with you know?

You know t A.

You know t A was in compliance.

He saw the syl Hello, hold on, let me look at this mother.

Speaker 2

Hey, okay, peep here max deal, everybody else pending.

Speaker 3

So I signed the MAX, and so I walk in the locker room.

Work.

Speaker 4

Hey, manz, look I signed the MAX.

I walk in the locker room like all right, we're.

Speaker 3

Losing teams who want to be here?

Get that?

Yeah?

Who want to be here?

Holdo, I'm tired of losing.

I'm over here because I'm about to be here the next five years.

Speaker 2

Hold on, we're gonna get to before we get to the league ship.

Don't kill you, got it?

You had a lot of exos before that killed.

That's what I'm saying.

Like your journey brother, people don't know you from the wood.

People don't know you had to duck them game bangers.

People don't know you had to straighten your mother the colors together like people don't know that.

So when you want to have the mud, that's what we're giving your flower.

We want to hear it flouer, right, I want to understand all this in every form.

We dissecting the whole journey to the Hall of fame tossed fire.

Speaker 3

That ain't easy.

Well, you a legend, brother, wanna give your flowers?

Speaker 2

I wanna tell you that, bro, the way and real you carry yourself is however you got the fame and the money that well, you carry that ship like man you steal from Inglewood that won't want to bro.

Speaker 3

I love that bro.

He left that bro real ship.

Speaker 4

So I mean, I'm always gonna be wrong from but I always I'm a grown man, you know, and I got kid.

Speaker 3

You know, I'm no what's soever.

You know what I'm saying respectable and I may make mistakes.

I do make.

We all do done some things that like.

Speaker 4

You know, it's not of like what culture accepts, like, but it's not illegal, like I've been on tape smoking weed or they want to say it's strippers in the back.

They wasn't strippers.

They were just some poker or whatever.

I got pulled over for the incident.

I've been fired.

Whatever.

Bro, I'm gonna live my life, bro, and I make mistakes, and this is what I want to tell the people and my kids.

They're like, listen, I'm not perfect, and I'll be telling my kids.

I'm like, listen, I make mistakes, and I want you to learn from my mistakes so you don't have to make the same mistakes.

But the thing is, I hope that my mistakes don't get me killed or in jail.

And I can be like, because the closer you get to that will put you in jail or killed.

So like, you know, don't drink and drive, don't you know, go on live and show your life.

You don't have to show everything to everybody.

You know what I'm saying.

You can have your private life and we all do things.

You a voice through all that.

Yeah, so we do things like I'm human and I don't think about me.

I'm not trying to come across as fake either.

Speaker 2

Like we gonna know, I just on my last you know you real, Like we're gonna we're gonna rap with it.

Speaker 3

He is who he is, right, I'm not gonna come off to you like that.

Speaker 2

Either like hey, you know, good evening, Like what's up?

Speaker 3

You know what I mean?

Speaker 4

That's I don't care he order one hundred billion, he want to make sure whatever.

Speaker 3

You know what I mean.

I'm a talk like that and I'm never gonn on change from that.

That's big.

Speaker 2

That's big, though, Killer tell us, tell us, so tell us about like, man, Joe, how did you come across becoming All American and and meeting meeting big fella KG Man.

Speaker 4

I just it was a lot of hard work, like like yeah, so like when I first met KG, I was playing on the team.

Speaker 3

I think I was playing with the Brokens team in l A.

We weren't case Swiss basketball.

Speaker 4

You never even heard of the case Swiss basketball shoes.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you never even heard the boat Cases basketball shoes.

Speaker 3

Jesus Nike, I ain't never heard no case Swiss, bad Nike.

Speaker 4

I was in the hood like get us these case Swiss nigga, Hey, we're gonna hooping these.

But they was gaster because we had the all Ran ones.

So the homies was from you know, so they were.

Speaker 3

Like this like t turn playing and we had the red k Swiss.

So he was like, I'm rocking with them, Like.

Speaker 4

We went to Looters Park, we had the red k Swiss.

Turn was like, I want to play with them because he was from the hood.

Turn content, I want to play with them.

You know what I'm saying, Like damn so, but we was cracking.

We started developing.

We we we went to the championship a lot of tournaments.

We started developing confident.

Everybody was wearing NIKESWI.

Speaker 2

Who the this KSE Swiss team with the going but we would have got damn with you.

Speaker 3

Everybody meet us in ats.

Speaker 3

And he like he brought the gloves.

He made the whole team come in the locker room at ten o'clock am right now.

Speaker 3

And you really wanting on.

You want old band and fencing anyway in practice the week, all through the week.

Speaker 2

Attain it though, So I got off first with this.

So now after that, what happened when you got off?

Before you tell him?

You got to tell the motherfucker about me.

Bro, motherfucker fed on you first to though ship with bleeding bleed you got nobody won.

But we both got connected.

Speaker 3

We both threw him and I connected he connected.

So what something everything?

It wasn't no measure, It wasn't that.

It wasn't that losing draw.

It was we got off, all right.

Speaker 4

So now the niggas who go next think about it, like, nigga, you like, you gotta be real to win, to throw hand.

Speaker 3

Calling out who you want to.

Speaker 2

Call as you call it, nigga bigger than you mustled up, he strongly, seventh, th I want to I want to get down with him.

Speaker 3

Love love, But after that it was love all right?

Who next?

It's love all right?

I got my issue.

He got his love next.

Speaker 2

So you know me, I don't even got no smoke with this.

That motherfucker anyway, that's my nigga.

I don't even like, I don't even got no smoke with him.

I just said, all hold on, let me fight the biggest nigga.

Speaker 7

I said, give me a big baby, give me a big baby baby, big baby, Like, oh yeah, you know he's sick sor, he said, right.

Speaker 3

A Chicago nigga.

He gotta get the bigger, the biggest niggas.

Speaker 2

I got so killer.

I get the going, I get the going.

I get the going.

So I tried to call like I got to go on like I'm crazy.

Look I got it going like I'm crazy, throwing them, he throwing them, and.

Speaker 3

That motherfucker look back this one way and boom.

I fell clean out.

He knocked me out my motherfucker's socks.

I mean, I ain't get back up.

I knew he won.

Speaker 2

I said he want kill, I want But though he was so niggas respected to ya, I wasn't here.

I'm gonna kill now, know.

Speaker 4

But the thing is, you know in the squabble, when you ready to stand up to a nigga, you're gonna get respect.

Speaker 3

So niggas even though t A got hit because he definitely tried and he wanted smoke.

And so next up was that was?

That was that was throwing pusses that could have cold cocked nigga.

Nobody connected and we had to It was the punchers was getting thrown so crazy.

I had to stop it.

I said, no, you know what, somebody don't get knocked out.

I don't get hurt on this one.

Because they were throwing a convictional punches like they got it trying to connect.

No, I'm trying to tell Rondo trying to tear.

Speaker 4

Ray head up, and Ray trying to tear his head up.

I said, no, they are, It's over.

After like a minute, nobody connected, I was like, all right, stop.

So was that the last did you stop the all the fun we had everything was stopped?

Okay, everything, So what they say to you has a pete don't do this ship no more.

Speaker 2

No.

Speaker 3

It was just like, man, no, no, no, they wasn't gonna do that to me.

Speaker 2

No.

Speaker 3

I was like, you know, like somebody get knocked, get hurt.

I'm not even gonna be responsible for that.

Dog.

Speaker 4

So I'm like, no, we know y'all feel about each other.

It's cool whatever, We'll figure it out.

Speaker 2

It looked like it was more camaraderie ship to me, though I ain't gonna like that was a camaraderiy type of thing, you know what I'm saying.

I thought I thought it was too.

It was like when we came closer after that, right, No, that's a fact that yeah, it was a fact.

Speaker 3

It was a fact.

We was like, gets your issue off, and then it was like, all right, we're good.

Pee pee pee pee.

Speaker 2

A lot a lot of what I want to tell him after my listeners, bro, Like I want to tell him, like just about how a rookie, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3

I ended up starting a good portion of the season.

Speaker 2

I want to say, all the way throughout the end of the season until like probably I met Reggie Miller.

Speaker 3

But my rookie year was two thousand and four.

Speaker 2

I want to know, like, what was your mask set in that year when they drafted up like the four players that we just named me, Alan, tell you what did you have championship aspirations that year?

Speaker 3

And what was your mask set?

Speaker 4

So my mind said when we got y'all, I knew we was in rebuilding to a because I was getting all young nickgas.

So I was just like, all right, because I went to the conference finals.

I was one two guys from being in the finals.

Speaker 3

Lakers.

Speaker 4

Now people don't know that a chance, a taste of like success of winning.

So now it was like mag y'all coming in, we gotta start all over.

So now I'm gonna be like, all right, might not make the playoffs or make first round, and I'm like, niggas, just the closest all we have to do is put a couple more pieces around.

Speaker 3

We're gonna get there.

That's what Danny telling you.

That's what I see, nigga, that's what we We went six games in the conference finals.

Speaker 4

My fourth yere, we right there, you got so like like when you right there, you build on that you don't start off so you felt some type of way.

So I felt some type of way.

But the money, it was like, all right, then you're gonna max me out.

Speaker 3

Then I'm staying like there, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 4

So like it's like as much as we want to talk about, hey, we want to win, but when we first get the league, we want to get our bread first up.

So, like Ricky contract is really selfish.

It's like because you want to establish who.

Speaker 3

You are and what you are.

Speaker 4

That makes sense because if you're in a in a rookie contract and they trying to win and they trying to say you just to shoot threes and not do you like, what the fuck?

I want to show what everything I got, So like you just be like, man, that rookie contract is like, nigga, I'm wanna show I'm a nigga in the league that I could be established in NBA either a franchise player or a major role player that could make a lot of millions.

So you know that's what it was for me.

And I was like, nigga, I'm established myself HOMEO sell you who I am.

And I got a mass contract and then the next year, I was like, damn, I could be in the Conference finals in the NBA Finals.

So once you secure that, you get more comfortable than about your game.

Speaker 3

But you know that point, p it was like what your six seven year in the league though, It's like, damn it was that was for you.

That's my fourth year in the league.

Fourth year in the league, two thousand and four.

It was like I made my first max I drafting in ninety nine.

Yeah, you know what I'm saying.

So like, but my third year was in the conference finals and I was in a rookie contract, So.

Speaker 4

I'm like to get confident.

Yeah, so I like confidence yeah, and getting the confidence everything.

You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 2

So that means I might have got it wrong there because I know two thousand I'm trying to get into like right before we catch Ray and I'm.

Speaker 4

Trying to get I was a lot of years.

That was a lot of years after that years I didn't had a lot of playoff success.

Well, you know, people don't know about me.

They don't know my my pre Big Three experience, like I went to the Conference finals with I like really was making the playoffs.

I just have I just have a team that was good enough to win it.

Speaker 3

Who was on that Who was on that squad?

Not Joe Johnson was yeah, Joe Johnson.

One.

Speaker 4

We was making like third, second, third round, but we needed one more piece, but they kept rebuilding.

Speaker 3

M hm.

You know what I'm saying, you are you are experienced a success.

Speaker 4

So you are my first playoffs.

I got to the conference finals my first year in the playoffs.

Speaker 3

That's what I'm saying.

That's big, that's big.

One could have went to the finals, but we lost three straight.

Speaker 4

Nigga was killing these motherfuckers, the Jets, the new Jersey nets with Jason averaging like.

Speaker 3

Like damn near forty verse them.

So when the playoffs come, Nigga, I'm thinking, like, we're gonna go to the final state of the Lakers.

Speaker 4

And that year, that year that the Lakers won, we beat them twice because we were playing the style of basketball that they played to day.

We were playing four in one, out shooting, playing thirty forty threes.

In two thousand and two, Twin was a stretch forward.

Twine was beyond this time one.

But that's that's crazy.

One was shooting the game they played that that's the game they playing.

Your power ten threes a game.

That just fucked me up with that.

Speaker 3

That's what I'm trying to tell you.

Twe we played that game back then and got to the current finals.

Twine was shooting ten twelve threes a game and hitting three or four, and then they got us to like we're shooting threes that we played by the three.

I'm trying to tell you that, Like, if you go and watch the first one was the first one.

The motherfucker's playing that way because our stress fo, nobody had a stretch forward and one had handles all that, getting that bitch off the back, boy pushing up run to play.

Ye.

So that's interesting, bro, because you make it make sense when you say it like that.

Speaker 2

So that that just shows even when you was, you know, the infamous Al Harrington shot, you know, fielding up to that like you had been in that, that that tastes of success to where is all right, bro?

I need to be getting to another level.

Yes, and my game is growing.

Yes, my contract I'm out playing them.

It's like, Yo, what is the GM doing now?

Speaker 3

Exactly?

And so and you went you writteness the season.

Speaker 2

I was on the team with you obviously when I told my a cl and you could speak on that that time too too, But it's like, damn, bro, It's like I need help and I really.

Speaker 3

Need that, but you showing up to work every day?

How how how is that mentally though?

Speaker 4

Like?

Speaker 3

What are you going through mentally at the time?

Speaker 4

I love ball and I love waking up saying I want to get thirty in practice.

That was my game, real hooper, the game.

Wait to go to practice.

You know what I'm saying now that practice I wake up.

I woke up like I can't wait to get the practice because this is really my game.

I tell my daughter all at the time, that's where I got my game at practice against.

Speaker 3

I couldn't wait to get.

Speaker 4

The pefore you what, I gotta play against the best defender in the league every day, but I can't.

Speaker 3

Wait to do this.

Speaker 4

This is a challenge for me because now when the game start, this is easy.

I ain't gotta play against Tony Yalling today, what y'allmnna.

Speaker 2

Cook you get thirty?

You know what I'm saying, Like you said, that's what It's so differ.

Speaker 3

Gotta play against Tony Yalling today.

I'm gonna cook you.

Game so different now because he won all the ones you go today practice.

He just ran off the trail.

Meal he run.

Speaker 2

He just ran fifteen sprints off the trail off.

Speaker 3

Don't you come downstairs?

All right?

Who got Paul Pierce today?

The walls that yeah, with the one, Bro, I'm like, I got you.

Speaker 2

You know.

Speaker 3

I'm telling you this.

Speaker 4

Right, the t A the first team all defense, right, this is one of the greatest defenders we've ever seen on the ball in the wing all my mama, Kobe shot at KD sing it.

I had the witnesses every day in practice, but I will tell you the origin of this was like when we walk in practice, because he had to guard me every day.

It'd be some days he had say, all right, I'm a guard ray a.

Speaker 2

Man, I ain't done no smoke out smooth ass talking.

That smooth ass talking he's doing.

I ain't never dug no smoke.

Let's get that clip.

Speaker 3

Can I finish my story up?

Just saying where you're going?

Bro?

So so right?

You know it's a down screen.

Tough to guard Ray is one of the great multiple pigs being said.

Speaker 4

When t A will walk in to practice if you like, and I'll look up and he ain't got me and I'll be like, oh, nigga, you you're taking the day off he's taking you don't want to guard me tonight because I'm gonna get you in foul trouble and practice.

Speaker 3

I'm gonna shoot threes.

I'm gonna do all that.

Speaker 2

He like.

Speaker 3

He so he's looking at me.

He looked turn guard.

Right.

It's not a bad because Ray is one of the greatest.

Speaker 2

So he up every day and had issues every day.

And he had an issue every day.

That's a real issue.

I got an issue, Ray, But you.

Speaker 3

Know the hard days.

No, no, the hard days.

He knew was guarded me because he knows I'm gonna do too much, right, like he took the day off Guard run off there.

Speaker 2

Okay, look look look I'm a bowl him in the mouth.

I might say something off the ball, do something.

Doc looking at him like, shut up, what are you saying?

Like he just boled me and flat out sucking with me, though you might trip me a little bit with the little I turned around, pushed him, Tony, what are you.

Speaker 3

Doing hurt me?

Yeah?

Yeah, he just start yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I do nothing.

They stopped like he like he like behind my back, like what is he doing?

Coach like coach like playing on me and ship brok with me the whole time, the whole time.

Speaker 2

But that was mental toughness.

You had to stay had you had to keeping to him with what the play was, wearing the defensive strategy.

Speaker 3

You had to stay focus.

Speaker 2

Don't let this get you off your sweat on electric spot come over brook at him.

Yeah, and he's doing that too, So off the rip.

You know, I gotta stop playing with me like I'm on that bro used to.

Speaker 3

Because you really shut up he talking, but he don't know that he's talking because I just said something to him.

I'm like, I about to be like here you are, bitch, like I know, like shut up, get in trouble.

That's how I used to get a response.

That's what he gotta response.

He gotta respond, gonna respond.

Speaker 2

Wh mean, while this story, I really want you to be on my outer I want my after Mother listeners to know what one of the greatest situations for me as a rookie with he was like, you know what I'm saying, I'm playing hard obviously, you know fools on cover of n b A Live and all that.

Speaker 3

I had that game.

I had the jersey, so getting there.

It was my duty to just be on point.

Period.

Speaker 2

And within this season I had got a chance to start and got to play in a lot of minutes.

Pete, you can speak to this.

I was playing so good and just being a role player.

We started doing good in the car was three in the East.

Speaker 3

The last eight games in a row with you in the start lining.

Shut up.

No, not not that year, Not that year.

I'm talking.

I'm talking my rookie year.

He gave me to watch, bro.

He like, boom, congratulations.

Speaker 2

Now we get to get into turmoil and it's like, damn, bro, I'm finna get my bread.

We losely, like I don't know to be here.

He's saying this deal.

He like it's elbow heard or some ship going on.

He was like, or something happened, he like, he like, I'm about to be out.

Speaker 3

Man.

They finna start playing the young motherfuckers.

So I'm gonna give you the juice kill you.

I'm looking at a magic talk I got.

Speaker 2

You do what you want to and they started what Yeah, Like before I told my c can I play like a good thirteen games start?

Speaker 3

That's why I told him he's gonna be the man.

I said, he's gonna be like, I'm going to sit out.

I'm going to sit out, Bro, I'm fin the same my deal.

Sit out.

That's what he was talking about.

Speaker 4

I broke my foot.

Speaker 2

That was but in that process, I'm pretty sure you knew those guys was coming, Like what was the process?

Speaker 3

No, I didn't know that guys was coming because I was just like it was.

It was.

Speaker 4

It was a moment because it was like either trade me or let's get better, or trying to win the championship.

Speaker 3

You know what I'm saying.

So it was like, all right, that's when I was in the locker room.

Who want to be here?

Remember?

Speaker 4

And I was like, you was one of the lawyers down de Lante West, But you know it's a lot of guys that didn't want to be there.

Speaker 3

So I was just like all right, cool.

Speaker 4

So I was like, all right, you know, t A will fit in on this situation because he understand he worked hard and I always gravitated to him from day one.

Speaker 3

That's the fact you gave it.

You know, I ain't saying up.

You know you read them real brothers.
