But as of August 6, 2025, the FDA shocked patients, providers and manufacturers, moving a crucial deadline up from 2029 to August 2026, requiring NDT manufacturers to submit costly Biologics License Applications (BLAs) or potentially face a forced market withdrawal. This shift also restricts compounded NDT and likely bars imports—adding new layers of access and affordability concerns for many, especially those on Medicare or paying cash.
Though the FDA’s head Dr. Marty Makary has since pledged on X to “ensure access for all Americans,” the window is narrow, and no manufacturer has yet filed a BLA.
