The Curse in the Flowerpot: A Dark Childhood Discovery
Episode Transcript
When she was barely old enough to remember something hidden beneath the broken flower pot revealed the secret one that her family never spoke about, and years later, strange dreams, ghostly footsteps, and an impossible warning would save lives.
My name is Edward, and here is Crystal.
It's true scary story.
Speaker 2My story starts off in Mondolina, Illinois.
I'm about four or five years old.
Me and my brother were always hanging out on my grandmother's house.
My great grandmother, she had a garden in the factor.
She always had like these old terra cotta pots, the big ones, right, and she always had them like set up on top of these big like cinderblocks.
One time we were out there playing in the garden.
I happened to that going over.
It fell over and it broke and I saw that there was like something white inside of the dirt and I pulled it out.
My older brother he was like, what is that?
And he was like around seven maybe, and I was like, I don't know, and I pulled it out.
We were like, oh my god, that's a big sock.
I was holding it and I was like, there's something inside of it.
And then one of my aunts, that was my mom's sister.
She grabbed the sock and the picture of my mom and showed it to my mom.
My mom then went to go show it to my grandmother, and my grandmother was like, Oh, that's gotta be Simona grandmother because she likes to dabble and that stuff.
She told my mom like that it was some type of bruheria that she was trying to do because she didn't like my mom and she wanted to get rid of my mom.
After that, I think my mom got like a plantin or something, but my mom and dad ended up getting the worst.
A couple of years later after that, my great grandmother got really sick.
She was already ready on her bath bed, and I think I was seven at this time.
Already she didn't have a really good relationship either with my grandmother.
She was always fighting and putting her down to me, and my grandmother's life miserable.
My grandmother I said that she was always mean, but she was though, because she would pinch me all the time.
Every time I would go next to her, she would pinch me on purpose.
She would always make my grandfather yell at my grandmother and treat her bad.
She tried to make my grandmother like do witchcraft too.
My grandmother said that one time that she took her in one of the rooms and she told her that she needed to sit in front of the mirror and she needed to say some type of words right, and it was dark in the room, it was nighttime, but she needed to talk to the mirror, and my grandmother said that she got freaked out because that she was doing whatever she was saying.
She was saying to the mirror.
She said that she saw something like an ugly face pop up through the mirror, so she jumped up and she got out a room.
She said, I can't do it.
I said, I'm sorry, but I cannot do that which you want me to do.
I can't do it.
My great grandmother got mad at her and she's like, wait, if you're not going to do it, then nothing's gonna come out good for you in your life.
And the day that she was dying, she told my grandmother, oh, Maria, I'll come here.
I have something to tell you.
So my grandmother went over there and she's like okay, kid us, like what do you want?
And she's like the thing pressa.
She's like, let me ta and my grandmother's like, what are you talking about?
And she's like, you'll see, she told her, and in Spanish, she said, you're gonna remember me for the rest of your life.
She passed away on my mother's birthday, So when she passed away, my grandmother's like, that's what she was talking about.
So every day now, like on my grandmother's birthday, like she remembers her.
I grew older, and I don't know if it has anything to do with like my grandmother or anything, but I would have like dreams about people like they're not here anymore.
And I had a dream I think I was eleven.
We were living in this apartment complexes in Vernon Hill's, Illinois.
It was me and my older brother and my other younger brothers.
I had a dream about this young girl.
She had to be like in her early teens, I want to say fifteen.
She had short hair, like I want to say sandy blonde hair, and she was wearing a white shirt and blue shorts, like blue jeans, and she was standing outside on this balcony.
Those apartment complexes were three story high.
I saw her in the dream like that, and then I woke up.
Two weeks later, me and my friends were like playing outside and we hear the ambulances and then one of my friends came from running from three apartment complexes down.
She's like, oh, well, this girl committed suicide.
She jumped off the balcony and she crushed her head and we were like what.
I just turned all pale, like I don't know what to say.
I ran inside and I told my mom.
I said, Mom, I dreamt about that, and she's like, you're just thinking you did.
She's like, because you always sleep late, so you're starting to have bad dreams.
Just like if you go to sleep late, you're going to have bad dreams.
Well, I took her word for work, because you know, mom, parents know best, right.
Years later, I had a dream about my mom's best friend.
She was smiling and she was waving at me, like saying goodbye.
But it was a very peaceful dream.
During that time, I had a phoning out with my friend for about two years.
For some reason.
After I had a dream, I was like, maybe I should give her a call.
And I was getting ready for work.
I was driving to work and on my way to work, I saw this mylar balloon, like a silber myler balloon.
It was stuck in one of the trees outside and it was in the shape of a number two.
As I'm looking at it, I'm calling my friend and I call her.
She answers, and then I go, hey, how are you.
She's like I'm all right, and then I go, hey, I had a weird dream.
And she said what kind of dream?
And I told her I had a dream about your mom.
She was smiling at me and she was waving at me.
She's like, bro, that's not funny, and I'm like, I'm not being funny.
Ago, I had a dream about your mom.
And she's like, well, my mom passed away.
I started crying and I like, you're lying to me and she's like no, and my mom passed away on November second.
And I told her about the balloon and she was like, I believe you.
I think my mom was telling you to call me because I've been really depressed lately that I've been thinking about bad things and I don't think things like that.
I said, everything can be fine, and she's like, all right.
I felt weird like telling her about it, but she knew like that I have we dreams like that.
Afterwards, like I ended up moving to Texas with a boyfriend that I had.
He was bad news.
My mom didn't like him.
I think I lived out there for about three years.
While I was with him.
I had a really, really had dream.
I had a dream that there was like a rattlesnake and it was huge and it jumped up and it beat me on my arm.
After it bait me, my mom was in my dream and she had an axe and she chopped off the head.
I woke up because it was like, it's a scary dream, and my arm was hurting really bad, and I touched my arm.
I had like blood, and I was like, what the heck?
And so I turned turned around and then I looked and I'm like, I had two little thoughts on the side of my arm.
They were even with each other, and like if I had really gotten a snake bite, but they were like deep wounds.
So I called my mom and she's like, did the snake die in your dream?
And I said, yeah, you killed it, and she said, okay, good.
I think somebody is doing some real hidie on you.
She's like, and if you cleanse yourself with an egg, and she's like traged to see if you can find somebody that does cleansings.
So at the time, I had already made friends out there, and I was talking to one of my friends from work and I asked her, you know, do you know anybody that does cleansings and stuff.
I've already cleaned myself with an egg, but my mom wants me to get another cleansing.
She's like, well, yeah, I can do your cleansing.
I'm like, okay, but you'll have to come over my house.
I'm like that's fine.
And I didn't mind because she had a farm and I love animals, so I go I could take advantage of petting all the animals.
So I went over there.
She has so many animals, horses, dogs, chickens, cows, you name it.
She had it.
And she goes, hey, if you want to, you can sleep over if you want.
She's like, and tomorrow we can go look at the lamas if you want.
Like you got a lama.
She's like yeah, Like yeah, I'll sleepover.
So she gave me some blankets and a pillow, and she's like, you can sleep in this room.
Nobody sleeps in there anymore.
Like okay, I went in there and I slept in the room.
I said, I slept there.
I had a dream there was this tall, very pretty girl standing on the side of the bed right next to me, and she was looking at me and I looked at her too.
She was looking at me like what this face?
Like, who are you?
She was like Mexican, dark skin, tan and short curly hair, and she looked very pretty, and she was wearing this teal green dress.
It was sleeveless.
She looked at me and she says who are you?
And I'm like, my name is Pristol.
I go, who are you?
And she didn't respond to me, and she's like, what are you doing here?
And I'm like, I'm just visiting.
And in the morning I wake up, my friend was already like in the kitchen.
She was making breakfast and everything, and she's like, hey, how do you sleep?
And I'm like, I stopt fine, I go whose room did I sleep in last night?
And she said, oh, well it was my daughter's room.
Why I had a weird dream last night, I said, don't take it any weird way, but I have dreams of people that are no longer here.
And she was just like really, and I said yeah, I said, I had a dream about this girl.
She was tall, short hair like shoulderling, but it was black, curly hair.
And she was like, let me show you something, and she brought out a picture and she showed me a picture of her daughter, and that was her.
I said, this is the girl that I saw last night.
And she says, I believe you, not only because you described her to a tea without me showing you the picture, but because I can feel her here still in the house.
She told me, my daughter passed away about five years ago of breast cancer.
I can hear her here still in the house.
I can feel her.
It's crazy that you got to see her.
She's like, I have never ever gotten to see her.
And I'm like, well, she came to me in my dream.
She's like, because you were in her room.
That's why she was buried in a teal green dress because that was her favorite color.
She said.
Her name was Esmeralda.
She asked me questions, you know, like, I think you have what we Hispanic people like to call it undone.
She's like, where you can and see or talk to people or dream of things.
I always felt that way, but I said I never actually that I did, but it's just my mom always told me it was crazy.
But she's like no, She's like, you have something very special there.
Don't be afraid of that.
Nothing can happen.
She's like, it's just people coming to visit you because they know that you have the ability to reach out to their loved ones.
And I'm just like, I don't know how to make it stop.
They just come to me.
She's like, I don't think there is a way for you to make it stop.
She's like, it's just a gift that you have.
After I went to go through the cleansing, the two dots dried up, but you could still see the two dots on my arm there like a scar.
But there's even two little dots.
To me, I know that that was some type of Bruhidia stuff because I can't explain the two dots.
They were even with each other, like if a snake had bit me.
After I left Texas because I broke up with that guy, and I came back to Illinois.
I ended up meeting my husband years later, and while we were dating, we were in his room one time.
It was during the day.
We were so tired, it was a hot day.
We were sleeping in his room.
I could see this man come in the room and it was a tall white man.
He was wearing like a black cloak.
I'm still sleeping, but I saw him.
I get up in my sleep and I could see myself sleeping, but I lifted myself up from my body basically, and I look at him and he's looking at me.
I said to him, who are you?
He looks around like behind him.
He's like, is she talking to me?
Like how can she see me?
He didn't think I was able to see him, like I caught him out of guard.
He's just like looking around and he made this weird face like, oh shut, she can see me.
He like disappears.
I wake up and I moved my husband.
He was my boyfriend at the time.
I moved him.
I'm like, hey, it was a man in the room.
He was like, what you're talking about.
I said, there was a man in the room.
And I said and I think he was a brujo And I said, somebody's doing something to you.
And he's like, go back to safe.
You just had a weird dream, okay, but whatever.
Right that same day, I went to go grab an egg.
I did my thing and I started rubbing it down on him.
He's just like, I don't have nothing.
I'm like, uh, you don't know that.
And I'm like, and I learned how to do that from my grandmother.
She showed me how to, you know, rub you down with the egg and everything, you know.
And I'm like, I don't know who that was, but that's somebody trying to do something bad, I said, either to me or to you.
I'm like, but I saw him, I said, And he was caught off guard because I was able to see him.
He's just like, you're scaring me.
And I'm like, I don't mean to scare you.
And I'm like, this happens to me sometimes, Like I'll be sleeping and people come into my sleep.
I'm like, and they're not dreams because I can feel when they're dreams and when they're not, you know.
A couple of years later, we got married and I saw the same man come into the room and I go, what do you want?
I said, who are you?
Who sent you?
Again?
We were sleeping when I saw him.
He was just like looking at me, like she can actually see me.
He left, he like vanished from my sight, like in my dream.
After that happened, I told my husband, I said, no, I said, somebody is trying to do something to us.
I don't know like what it is, but I feel it.
Somebody's doing something.
Then he started like opening up to me about things like there was this one friend that I have.
His name is Gandhi.
This guy was like so in love with me that he was forcing me to be with him even though you know, I don't know that way.
And when I told him that I was getting married with you, he was so angry and he told me, oh, you're going to regret that.
You're going to regret that.
He's like I kept telling him, like, dude, you have no reason to feel this.
Where Like we're friends because he was his barber.
He would cut his hair.
They would go hang out with other other friends.
But he was like secretly in love with my husband.
I told them, oh, I said, I bet you.
I said it was Gandi.
I said he did something.
He's trying to do something.
Here I go, but he doesn't know like that.
I can see this guy.
We had bought a house in a round Lake, Illinois.
I was sleeping in one of the rooms.
It was during the day.
I was taking a cat nap.
I heard the door open.
In my dream, I heard somebody come in the house and I could hear their footsteps really loud.
This guy comes up to me next to the bed and he was like, hey, I need your help, and I'm like, who are you?
What are you doing in my house?
And this guy he was he was African American and he was dressed like, I want to say, like eighties type of clothing.
He was wearing a black shirt.
On the front it had like in yellow letters it said AC DC and then the pants they were black pants, but they were like a faded, washed away black color jeans.
And he had this chain link you know where you have like a chain link that's connected to your wallet.
He had one of those, and I could hear it because his keys were connected to it, and I saw it, but I could hear it too in my sleep where he's like walk in and he was pacing back and forth.
He's like, I need your help.
I need your help, and I'm like, well, where are you?
I can't help you.
He finally got tired he walked away, and I could hear his footsteps and I woke up really quick and I look up and I'm like my door is closed, and I'm like, like, who's out there right, And I know that I said it anyways, but I knew I was home alone.
But I said it anyways, you know, because I was like, maybe somebody did come in the house, you know, but I knew nobody had came in because everything is locked.
I'm home alone.
I get up and I go, maybe my husband's here.
I go out there and like, his car's not outside.
I unlocked the back door.
Nobody's back out there.
And I go downstairs and basement, nobody's there.
I'm like, all right, somebody wanted help.
I couldn't help them.
That's what it was.
That was actually recently, I want to say, I want about four months ago.
Those are my experiences so far.
I feel like really connected with that type of stuff, like not not I want to say, like, I mean, I do like the paranormal type of stuff because I do believe, like all that stuff exists out there.
There's a different world out there that not everybody can see, but I believe it it's out there.
And I mean, some people have the gift, and I don't think that those are like dreams because those are not regular dreams to me, because I can describe these people to the tea like, you know, the earth nicity, what they're wearing, their hair, texture, how they look.
It's a weird experience, but I mean, I think it's cool.
Speaker 1Thank you Crystal for sharing your story with us.
And also I just want to bring up some notes I got some feedback on the last episode.
Let me know what you think of these.
By the way, it is more about the conversation that I had with Crystal about after the story, which in our recordings we usually have some type like sometime to talk a little bit about the story itself, maybe ask some questions and things like that.
Some of the notes here and some of the things that I brought up were about the dreams, and I think I mentioned this in our last episode as well.
The dreams they might carry some meaning, some type of message for us.
Maybe it's not some entity trying to communicate, but maybe it's our own brain, our own subconscious mind, or maybe some other thing that we're connected to.
Sitting to think about that first part, that very first part where she's start what she tells us, the part about the broken flower pot.
Now, this is what really stood out to me, and I mentioned this during our conversation as well.
It was a very personal story.
Actually, when we first moved into my house, I was eight years old, eight or so so around that age, and we were cleaning.
We're excited about the house and everything, and we found this.
We were cleaning part of the yard on the side of the house.
There was a gate there or there was like this thing that was kind of eventually get replaced, and I happen to stumble upon this small object.
I had no idea what it was, and to this day, I still don't know what it is.
I've gotten some hints from some of you when I bring it up in conversations and interviews and stuff like that.
But it was this what I would describe a small ball.
Imagine a what are those things called, like a hacky sack kind of thing.
It's like a little sack, like a little red that's deflated and inside it is like stuffed.
So it's like this this brown ball.
Speaker 2I mean.
Speaker 1I showed my dad immediately, and he came out to it, and he kind of grab a stick and kind of poked at it.
When he did that, he realized it it was solid and it wasn't this rotten tomato or anything.
So he picked it up and what happened after that.
Obviously it's a curiosity, right, So we're trying to figure it out.
He grabs this lighter and lights it on fire, and it starts disappearing.
Imagine coke like rice crispy is kind of popping on the inside, like it was like this.
The outside peeled away and on the inside were these like rice crispy kind of things and they were burning off.
So I thought it was strange, right.
They looked like worms that were like wiggling and disappearing.
It might have been paper, I don't know what it was.
On the inside, it was this other thing.
It was this smaller object wrapped in some type of tape or some other coating.
Eventually that peeled off and inside was a coin.
And no idea what this was, right, why would anybody even make that?
So when I thought about the flower pot, the idea of Brugheria of witchcraft happening still circles my mind, like thinking that maybe something was up with this house, right, because it just makes no sense to make that right.
Eventually, around that house when we had first moved in, I remember finding dead birds on the corners of the property.
It was a strange thing and I remember my mom talking about the Catholic Church saying how maybe we should have gotten the house blessed, because we never got it blessed.
At the time, our family was mainly you know, we would go to church every once in a while and they would have to convince us because there was a bird king around around the church, and we would just go.
We didn't really take it very seriously, so my mom kind of felt like it was assigned for us to get church and all that.
And I'm not sure for how long we followed up with that, but it always lingered.
I asked my dad every once in a while if he remembers that thing, and he says, yeah, it's weird, and I'm like, what happened to the coin?
Eventually we just kind of lost it.
But anyway, it was an interesting little story that made me think of the broken flower pot because you might have stumbled upon a couple of things around your house, around your property and have no idea what the purpose of it was.
Besides all of these Brukheria witchcraft rituals objects like that, sometimes they're very elaborate and it's hard for you to imagine what It's hard for anyone to imagine that these things were just placed there out of pure coincidence.
So just something to think about, and if you have a story like that, please send it in.
You can reach me and the details are always in the links in the description of this episode.
Anyway, we got some comments here from some of our from our community from our previous episode, The Boy in the Dream.
This one's from Adam or Bina says, I've never had a paranormal experience that I can remember, so I love listening to these stories.
Edwin, thanks for doing the show.
Thanks a lot, Adam for that comment.
Also, Shelby Slaughter says, yay, it's an hour long.
I'm so excited.
Love you all from Texas.
And also another comment about the longer episodes, mies the Bomb says, love the longer episodes.
One of my favorite podcasters out there by far.
I appreciate the comments.
Thank you so much, Shelby and mies the Bomb these things.
Seriously, I think the long episodes are They're interesting.
What do you think about having two stories per episode?
That might be something we can look into and tuning on with the comments, let me see.
Michelle Machi says, out of all the paranormal podcasts, whether it be people telling their stories and or someone telling their stories for them.
This is the number one paranormal podcast everything let me see everything from the format, the host of stories, etc.
None can compare.
So thank you so much, and for sending I'm sending all blessings to all happy spectacular day.
Thank you so much Michelle for the comment these are really see we have a really strong community here.
This is this is really cool to read.
Really really, the whole team here at Scary FM, like it just makes our day to hear that you like and you enjoy the stories.
So thank you so much for that.
Cool Kid says, still love the podcast, and yes you ed when you're a good host, and well my friend and well my friend had an experience with ghosts, and well it is crazy crazy, cool kid, I want you to share the story at least, you know, if it's not like a really long story, you can always send it in, type out what happened with your friend, or have your friends send it in.
I'm always interested in a creepy story.
And then Elisa's Sweetheart says, my favorite podcast opens with with my city.
That what Edwin says, so it see these things.
Let me know if you're a listener from Texas, because we get from what I see in the stats, I don't know if I can trust them.
Is this truth?
Do we have a lot of listeners from Texas?
I need to know.
I need to know because we can do so much more with some of the local kind of stories from there.
It's always a little creepy to hear your town, your city in a story, so I think we're going to just include some more you know where this these stories happen.
That way, we get to see if maybe you've experienced something in the same house, which we might have been close one time with the story.
I'll tell you that the whole thing some other time.
But we had a thing where like somebody really wanted to know where in this city this house was because they believed that they were describing their new home.
So pretty bizarre.
Tali Aguilar says, yay, a long one.
I absolutely love all your channel's podcasts, but this one is my favorite.
This is cool, you know what geez I mean.
I was asked once about deciding between you know, my favorite podcasts out of the ones that you know that we have out their paranormal or in general podcasts, and I've always liked people sharing their own stories, like color kind of radio reminds me of the old First my start to the paranormal world was with a Spanish radio show called La Mano Pelula which is the Hairy Hand, and people were calling their story.
So I always like the format of people telling their own stories in like these phone old fashioned way of just here's what happened to me, and that's it.
Goodbye, super cool.
And then we have one that landed in the review section.
Here, let me see it, says Pcentius Crew says, all these experiences and I bet not any proof of anything at all.
And then let me see here's the thing.
Here's the thing about the paranormal, something that I believe in.
Let me know what you think about this as well.
The burden of proof is always on the paranormal existing, right like, we have to prove that its exists to you.
And when we see something that can't be explained from the rules that we've established, whether scientific, physical, logical, if it doesn't fit into those rules, you can assume.
What people who don't believe in, skeptics that argue with is is that that must not exist.
There right, But then you hear about all these other theories where it's like, hey, if does a fish know that they are in the water, they don't know, They just live that's their world now, they have no idea, Like they might not have the capacity to understand that.
What makes us think that we have the full capacity to understand our entire world and the energies that's around it?
Just the thought for you, A lot of us really land in that like, oh, we might be a little skeptical, maybe we're full skeptical, but we find these stories fun and I think fun and also understanding of going into the personal lives of other people and having them tell us what they experience.
Some of these get very emotional, so I find the entertainment aspect in that sense, but also it's also a very personal thing where how far does they need to go before it's like this might not be entertainment, This might be just you know, true life accounts that we need to just listen to and appreciate for what they are.
So obviously I appreciate all these comments about you know, proof and being skeptical and all this stuff.
We're just trying to you know, share people's stories here and also encourage people to share their own thing, knowing that we're going to get a group of people who listen to this and appreciate it for what it is.
So I don't know what you think about that.
Let me know what you think.
Do you think the paranormal stuff needs to be proved or you don't believe in until there's actual concrete proof that you can accept.
What are your thoughts?
But thanks a lot either way, besentis for the for the comment.
I appreciate you know, all kinds of comments and opinions and ideas.
It really makes us, you know, think and stuff.
Esther Tracy us says, love this podcast.
Esther short and sweet.
Thank you very much for the comment.
If you have comments on and by the way, I'm reading right now from the Spotify comments, but this podcast is also publishing on Apple Podcasts and everywhere else.
If there's a comment section on there, let me know, like you type it in if it's a review, I'll also go through it and if in case I can't see it, you can also send me a DM.
I'm going to start, you know, going through some of our top dms and emails.
No, we get to build more of our True Scary Story community here.
If you're interested in more creepy kind of stories and breakdowns of these stories, you can check out our other podcast called Paranormal Club.
Paranormal Club is it's I'm actually on video, like in a video podcast style, and sometimes I go through stories that we're told here on True Scary Story.
Other times there are news stories that are sent in and it turns into like a like more of a visual kind of thing where I can actually show you a graphic in case you want to see it.
I can show you pictures proof of stuff.
A very common one actually, a recent one was from Richard the Mallible Malibel case, which there was some that was requested from there.
It's like, hey, where's the moving Serachter bottle because that was the thing where like they said that he cut it on camera.
Well, we have the footage for it, and we show a clip of the Serrocha bottle literally moving right there on video.
It's also on YouTube, by the way, Paranormal Club.
It's also on YouTube and everywhere else you get your podcast, but it's audio only on most Spotify and YouTube have the video version.
I hope that wasn't confusing, but anyway, that's all I got for these this little commentary section of the of the show.
Let me know what you think of it, because what I'm trying to do here is to carry the ads over a little bit longer, as in like a little bit later in the episode.
