Episode Transcript
Hello everybody, and welcome back.
Thank you very much for joining me.
I hope the weather is treating you kinder than it is treating me.
So I'm tucked up and I'm watching the star and I thought it would be a good day to bring you some spooky stories.
Now we're going to look at people who've had to flee their homes due to the paranormal activity that's taking place there.
And one traumatized Tea side family and to leave after an enormous amount of paranormal activity just forced them to flee, really, and they were so worried about what was happening at home and the effects it was having on the children that they actually left the council home and moved into a mobile home on a friend's properteur.
Now they moved in the middle of the night.
Lauren Roth, the mum, began renting a house in Trimdon Avenue, Acklam, but she soon noticed and normal things were starting to happen.
This included Miss Ross getting bruises out of nowhere when she woke up in the morning, the lights in the property would turn on and off, and her son had had some terrible nightmares and night terrors The beautician and her husband, Stephen, along with their two children, lasted seven months before being driven out of the home in the final weekend of June twenty twenty two.
The family hit breaking point when the six year old son started screaming in the middle of the night.
Mum said she believes his spiritual things, so when weird stuff began happening a month of them moving into their tenancy in twenty twenty two, she did realize that something was off, and she said it got to the point where my son was talking to somebody in real conversations with him.
The children had sleep all night with no problems before we moved here.
Now my son wakes up and I often find him standing up at the top of the stairs in a dangerous position, just staring in to know where.
Miss Roth also states her son told her that there was somebody in his bedroom that was disturbing him, and the four year old little girl said she saw a strange catlike creature and she woke up with scratch marks on her body.
It went to the extent of putting some talcum powder down to see if anything cross street, and it does seem to dark with some you know, movement within it well, madded, things are getting really really strange around the house.
Things were being moved, even objects being thrown down the stairs.
We'd see something happen, you know, something during the night and just couldn't explain it.
Miss Ross also said that on one occasion she felt like she'd actually had something put against her throat much choked.
The rented house is around sixty years old, and at the end of June twenty twenty two, a spate of incidents were the absolute final straw for the family.
The family lo relaxing in the garden went around about eight pm at night.
Miss Ross put her little boy to bed where he said he was fine, and the next thing he was screaming, get off me, leave me alone.
The mother from Middlesbrough told how her brother was visiting at the time, so she just told him that her son had had the nightmare.
You know, she didn't want to scare him as well.
She said, as soon as I said that, the bathroom light just turned off.
That night, at two a m.
We left the home.
We went to my mum's in Attaxa to save returning to the house.
The family bought a caravan looked on their neighbor's drive before finding a new home.
Miss Ross said the whole sage was traumatizing and had left her calling in Northeast paranormal investigation team to try and work out what's going on.
He said that the lights turned off again when the paranormal investigators asked, if you want us to go and leave this property, now turn on the light, and it did so they left.
Not great for Miss Ross really in all stuff, she said, the medium told her to recite the Lord's prayer and burdens some stage since the family had moved home.
Miss Ross alleges that all the act activity around the children and her new home nothing There is nothing going on, even the sleep walking to stop with the son, She said, I believed in it to a point.
You know, you see it in movies, but you don't think it's going to happen to you.
We literally had to get up from our home and move, and we had no other choice.
My son is still wearer.
We daren't still go upstairs because he thinks that something's up there.
I believe that this could have been handled very differently.
The home is around sixty years of age, so it could be one of the old tenants that's still going about this business.
But the fact that there are bruises and scratches and the child's being affected, that tells me that that's something that enjoys doing that to a child.
So it could be something that's been on that land long before the house was even built, something awful and brooding.
Now, sending in the paranormal team is great if you want to to evidence finds, so if you want CTTV or you want a paranormal clip or an audio clip, but that doesn't help the family in any way, shape or form, because when the team leave, it often disrupts and amps up the activity that's taking place in the home, and the family then have to deal with that.
Well, what's your proof of this, Deborah, Because the team left and it was so bad for the family after they left that they gave up a perfectly good three bedroom home to live in a campervan on the neighbour's property because they were too scared to sleep there at night.
And even when they moved to the new property, the children was very much affected by what happened in the previous home.
So it would have taken that little boy a very long time to trust the fact that nothing was going to come into his bedroom at night and interfere with him in any way, shape or farm.
And you often see that with the young because somebody who's older, like a teenager or an adult, can reason all of this away.
Child's minds don't work like that.
They work in reality.
And if you've seen these things and experiencing these things in his bedroom, then I really feel for the little boy, and I hope it's all over and done for him now.
I would have also had a little bit of a check in with neighbors, because if the story is in the newspapers, she's not worried about people knowing her identity.
And I would have asked some of the older people that lived in the area if they remembered anything from their young days that were strange, you know, or upsetting about the house or the area itself, because often a haunting can come from quite far away.
It can be brought into the home and say a chair that you've bought from a charity sharp or you know, a trinket that you've bought from an option.
Sometimes spirit will attach to an item and that could be what's happened here.
And if I hasn't gone with them to the new home.
You know, then it's over and done with.
I once spoke to a lady and she's told me about a very frank and experience she had when she was in the twenties and she'd left her family home and had moved into her own property.
And she brought a dressing table a charity shop and brought it into the home, and from doing that, she had some awful interaction paranormal activity overnight, and she actually saw somebody in the mirror of the dressing table.
Being a religious girl, she actually went to church and fortunately it was shut down for her, it was over and done with.
But I would have suggested to her and to the mom at the time, that we put the control back in their hands.
And we do that by saying, you know, you have to stand up to this thing.
You have to tell it to leave your house.
It is not acceptable for it to be doing what it's doing, and it is not acceptable to be scaring the children.
And sometimes that can be enough, with a bit of stern will, to close everything down.
Now, saging and salting and all of the above, you do whatever comes into your mind that you honestly think will work.
Just do it actually intuition telling you what to do.
Don't wait for permission from somebody else.
If you notice, like the mom, when you first move into the home or you first bring an object in, things start to happen, Nip it in the bud in the same way you would if it was a neighbor that kept coming around and wanted to sit in your kitchen and have a cup of tea and you didn't want them there.
It's far better to cut it off early.
But wherever they are in the UK, I hope mom and Dad and the children are having a flourishing life away from any paranormal or supernatural activity.
And there are some really strange cases in Teaside that are very similar to what these guys have had to put up with.
A new study has shown that there are more reports of paranormal activity in Yorkshire and Seaside than in Transylvania or anywhere else in the UK.
Out of the whole of Britain, eleven thousand, two hundred and four paranormal reports were filed.
Two hundred and six of them referred to an angry entity of being, or even use the word vampire.
Now two of the Vampire Tales quite well known in the area.
Many people have looked into them before May, the first one being the Berrick Vampire, and this is one of the earliest accounts of a British vampire.
The locals apparently eventually found his resting place and they set his corps alight.
The Berrick Vampire centers around Canon Williams of Newsburg.
Cooper was a priest and a historian and he was quite well respected.
He lived around the time of Richard the Firs, so somewhere in the thirteenth century, and he brought forward the tale of the Berrick Vampire.
Now, this all happened around the time of the plague and you can imagine that took out vast areas of the countryside.
Obviously the northern quarters such as the North Dumberland were no exception and they suffered terrible hardship because of it.
And it's around this time that people start to make reports of almost like vampire like beings.
So there was a lot of folk law at the time and misinformation and not understanding the plague and how it works.
So people would see a villager, a friend, family member almost on the urge of death, and then two weeks later there walked around like nothing that's happened.
Hence the vampire started to be reported.
I think it first happened to a man who was a merchant, and he was a bit of an awful man, and he led a bit of a corrupt and simple life.
So when he died, the entire village refused to bury him in consecrated land.
So after his funeral there were some unexplainable and quite scary incidents that took place in Berrick itself.
Now the merchant began to rise from his grave in search of human flesh, blood and goal, and he set out after the villagers.
The demented demon would run through the streets looking for victims, shouting, until my body is burnt, you folk of Errick shall have no peace.
Behind the vampire, a pack of howling dogs was said to follow, their loud baying backing in the villagers awake.
I must have been terrifying.
The villagers had to put a stop to this horror in any way they could, So they had a bit of a village meeting, and they selected ten young farm hands to go out to the merchant's grave and dig up his body.
Then they were to burn the remains of him and finally get rid of any part of him and said evil.
Now, however, they may have totally destroyed the Berwick vampire, but tragedy still came to the village.
So the boys did go set fire to his coffin, but it didn't stop what was happening.
This is because after the destruction of the vampire, the plague returned to Berwick.
This awful, awful illness killed half of the population, which is not unusual.
But some people did savan need the plague, you know, so villagers claimed as they buried their dead that something was not quite right.
Indeed, they could still hear the sound of baying hounds as they lay the deceased bodies to rest.
Not only that, but they also claimed they could still hear the fearful screams of the vampire.
Now, no matter how disturbing the merchant looked under the plague or how you felt about you know, you're clearly dying relatives suddenly becoming well again.
I can understand why there were so many scary stories around at the time, and the area of Alnwick is no exception.
But their vampire's far more terrifying because he was reported to have had a hunchback, and in the Middle Ages he would start with the grounds of the castle, and it is said that the villager has put an end to him.
We picked forks and torches and they burnt him and reduced into ash.
Now, at the time, if you think about it, most of the plague victims were being burnt before they were in turned.
So I can understand why people thought that burning the body of a vampire would actually get rid of it, you know, for good.
It's quite a spooky tail in all, isn't it when you think about it.
The idea of this awful, awful vampire that's wandering on your village at night.
Wow, your family's maybe sick, or you're worried about plague and things like that.
It must have been a terrifying time for everybody.
So I can understand where these tales come from.
And it may be that the family that moved into the home earlier have kind of moved onto land that served that same purpose.
Back in the time of you know, Richard the First The plague went on for a long time and it did change people, eradicated populations, and he changed the UK forever.
They didn't understand it.
They didn't realize what it was, and that caused a lot of misinformation, and that's why so many people had died.
The confusion and the hysteria fed the public for a long time, and there were even murders committed of people who were seen to be quite simple or you know, were not the nicest people in the village, and they were kind of killed and it was passed off as the plague, a little bit like the merchant, and until the boys went down to retrieve the body, he would have laid in peace forever.
I wonder why the villagers didn't think that burning the body of corpses maybe bringing some bad ju ju onto the area, along with all of the dads that were part of out there in the fields waited to be burned.
I mean, I jest, but you know, it was a very long time ago.
They didn't understand.
Now, it would be something like the flu epidemic or measles, where we would be injected or we would be treated for it, and we would probably over time become immune to it, so that you know, we didn't it's eradicated.
I think it still is out there certain parts of the globe, but I don't think it's out there in modern Western society, but who knows, You know how it text is one dodge, you aren't away.
We go again.
Now, let's go to a different area of the country and we'd speak about another case where the family were absolutely terrified within their home and then bringing in a actual paranormal team kind of ramped up the activity far them.
And it's quite a sad case really, because the couple were so frightened by what was going on that they refused to have children.
And she said, the evil ghost in our haunted home have stopped us having children.
It's worse when I'm on my own now.
The young couple, Natasha and Ross, could never have predicted the spiritual activity that they were put up with when they moved into their nineteen eighties Terry Stole a year ago in o'barne, and they've actually even heard a ghost whispering the word evil to them.
Now the young couple have been left panicked and they've left the home.
You know, Natasha and Ross, like any other new homeowners, really excited to move into the new property.
Together was a lovely four bedroom Terry's house in o'barn in Scotland with plans to make the nineteen eighties property their new family home and you know, a place to raise children.
They could never have imagined what would happen next.
Experiencing constant thuds, waking up with random bruises and smoke alarms going off unprompted.
The couple's home has become inhabited by what they believe are evil spirits.
He will haunt and torment them all of the time.
My independence is completely gone, said Natasha.
I can't even be alone in my own home.
I just feel like it wants everyone to leave me on my own because it's more active when I'm here, and I feel like it's just trying to get to me mentally.
Ross hasn't escaped the clutches of evil though, and he's had some real bad suffering in his sleep and he sees some physical signs on his body.
He said, I worry that there's something evil here.
In recent days, I've been having violent dreams, disturbing visions of fire.
It's getting invasive now.
I found unexplained bruises on myself and that's very similar to the first family that we talked about in Teaside and what's got on has been so unsettling for the couple.
They're not prepared to bring a child into the mix, and I can only condone them for that.
She said.
We had all these hopes of building a family here and having lots of little children running around.
I can imagine them running up and down the stairs.
But a house like this as it stands, it's not safe, it's not comforting.
I can't put a child in here.
Giving up the home and not having children is heartbreaking.
And that really was the choice that the couple were left with.
And then they felt that their last hope was to bring in a paranormal team.
I think I would have gone in and shut it down at that point before getting a team in, but we all do things differently, don't we.
Now.
The team in question run by a psychic medium called Barry Guy, I think, and they have a TV show.
So they came out and they did a bit of what they declined as a ghost bunting to lends the home so that the couple could move forward with their lives.
It was actually filmed and captured, and he went out on TV and the medium tried to connect with what they described as the menacing spirit Barry felt that he was stabbed with three drawing pins in the back of his leg, and he stated that the weirdest thing that's ever happened to me is this.
After the team arrived at the property and began to carry out their investigations, they in turn attempted to communicate with any presence that was at the home, and to the team's surprise, the entity immediately fired a warning shot at them by setting off the smoke alarm in the house.
I think this was a warning, they said, and we needed to be careful from that point in.
There seemed to be a connection with his home, between tasha fire and the fire alarm.
That's kind of connection between the dreams you've been having about a fire and all of this was Natasha.
It's almost as if the smokerlarm't going off, he's either trying to trigger your face or to intimidate you in some way, said the medium.
I would have looked into the home and the land and seen if there were any previous fires on that land, because for all, paranormal activity is incredibly frightening.
Sometimes we've programmed to see it like that.
What if this was a spirit that was trapped in a home or a building that had burnt and nay in a residual way.
We're going through the process over and over again.
And when a new couple come in, Natasha is probably very sensitive to spirit and doesn't realize it.
He's giving out a warning because he's worried that a fire is going to happen and history is going to repeat itself.
Now, there was a fair bit of disrespectful speech too, said spirit when the team were there.
And what they need to understand is when they do that, they open the portal for negative so anything can come through.
So that little haunting that might have been able to be nicked in the bud has now become a portal for you know, a revolving door for spirit.
Really, no, they've kind of said to Natasha, oh, just tell it to get out, and you know, and just you know, realize that it's evil.
Not every spirit.
In fact, I don't think I've met many spirit that have been evil.
Are you the same in death as you were in life?
I would see this spirit differently.
I would think that as I said that, it was a warning of some time for the couple, and I would suggest to them that they thanked for the warning and reassured that they wouldn't you know, there would be they wouldn't be lighting any fires themselves and have a conversation with it, and it probably, you know, you would have been able to leave it behind.
But Old Barn as itself is an area like earlier a teaside, has a number of very strange reports going on.
There's even an old Barn I think it was a were wolf?
Was he or an ape man?
Something like that that was written about by Nick Redfern.
One of the places you should visit if you're in for a paranormal experience is the owner habbit in the night Stairs.
There now the own a habit and the grounds and it sits on been home to human being since before records began.
It was even invaded by the Vikings in the eighth and ninth century in a bittle battle, that is said, and many bodies were buried below the area that now formed the night stairs.
The night stairs lead to and from the former monks dormitories in the buildings now open for visit and anybody can go and visit them.
There are tales of a man dressed in monk's clothing who walks towards visitors in the area.
Many described feeling shaken by the encounter, with others describing the monk as just walking right through them.
Some say it's the ghost of Saint Columbo, Others say it's Saint Aorn who was buried alive on the grounds of the cathedral.
Others say the darkness allows people's minds to overthink and it's a figment of their imagination.
Now, I would suggest that if a cathedral was built there, that that land was incredibly important to us in a sacred way, all the way back in time, because you tend to find that way.
You know, cathedral's, churches, priories and things like that are built usually all worshiping places of the people.
So who knows, you know, disturbing the ground could have sent up the monk dressed in clothes then, or he could just been one of the monks that was going about his daily business as he would have done in life, and he's just repeating like an old record or a tape recording, and this is why he walked through people.
It's two worlds meeting at that point, I believe.
But if you fancy doing a bit ghost stunting, But if one of five start approach.
Why don't you visit the hotel, which is also in Obah.
Now, the hotel has been the site of some very bad interactions in the past.
People come over with feelings when they visit there, and there's even a bullet hole from one historic incident still visible in the dining room wall.
Now.
The Thane of Carder or Matt Beth was shot and killed here, but does his ghost still wander the halls even today?
Staff say there are some very strange goings on in the bottom corridor the hotel.
They've described a friendly ghost who appears to show himself at any time in the day or night, and there is a very strange smell of tobacco or cigar smoke, which is of course banned inside the building now.
But there are no accounts of the ghosts being awful or mean.
You seem more as a friendly spirit.
And once again, I think these are probably just ancient souls that are going about their business on a daily basis, and you know, some others humans kind of tune in to them.
At point.
Now, we could go and visit a different castle, the one that they call the Black Castle, and I think it's called bakal dye.
I think so, I probably got that wrong.
It has a spiral staircase and some secret passages.
There is no doubt that if anywhere might be haunted haunted castle, this would probably be it.
According to a public survey taken in twenty thirteen, many of the visitors to the Castle hotel believe that they saw spirit or that it's haunted, possibly by the ghost of Donald Campbell, which is the lead of that time.
Guests often tell tales of hauntings in their Caithness room, with sightings of a ghost in what is described as the Grand Room.
Many who have slept on the right side of the bed claim that they felt the presence of something back and legs touched them in the night.
Others reported lights moving around the rooms at night, with no clear explanation of how they've got there.
Paulo Natini slept in the castle during his last gig No Bound, but did he experience the ghosts?
I don't know.
You didn't tell me, you didn't tell anybody else.
And then we have done staphanage Castle.
These names people, where are they coming from?
And if unstaffedis were said to be haunted, we'd be worried.
Really.
It is listed on the Wild About our Kyle website as having a very interesting president.
The castle's ghost is named l Made and she is said to roam the castle ramparts dressed in green.
If she's smiling with fortunes on its way, but if she's crying, a member of her clan, the Campbells, knows the trouble lies ahead.
These stories are absolutely amazing, aren't they.
I really enjoy them and I enjoy hearing them, and it would be so sad if they were lost, you know, in the realms of time.
But we've only looked at two Irish today.
It's quite a short look, wasn't it.
But it just shows you how history and what we know at the moment can shape what we report as paranormal and supernatural.
And maybe some of the creatures that people report here in the UK are not of the supernatural realm.
It's simply a cryptid of some kind that we don't understand.
Maybe the owner of the old house that you move into isn't an evil, cantankerous or get you know, he's a guy who suddenly had children in his bedroom and he doesn't understand what's going on.
There.
There's a lot to be taken into account when you do a ghost investigation, and as I say, getting in a team will help you to get evidence.
It'll get you know, or CCTV catches those EVPs.
But I find that looking into the area itself, the family and the home, sometimes gives you a far quicker answer and an end.
So the never ending activity, it must be terrifying for a child to put up with that in his bedroom, and I know exactly what it feels like.
I went through it myself when I was a child, and many of my cousins experienced the same things in their home, to the extent that when one of my great uncles died within five years, the family that moved into that home where he lived were also reporting a cantankerous old git that was in the bedrooms at night, frightening the children.
And in fact, it was my mum, who worked for the council offices, that actually helped them to move.
And she had no idea that it was her uncle's house because obviously they hadn't had any contact in such a long time, and when she looked up the address, she wasn't expecting to pull up outside a home she's visited for parties as a child, and the ghost that they described was exactly the same as my cantankerous old gits of a great uncle.
No do you don't know what's happening.
And I think what I'm trying to get across here to people is if you do notice something in your home or you know, around you, it's really strange.
Don't buy into the satanic panic.
Don't instantly think evil or entity or any of the things that the TV programs will tell you.
They are for entertainment purposes and they have to ramp up the activity and the best thing for an ordinary person to do is to shut that activity down as quickly as possible.
And honestly, it's never failed for me in the past.
Now, there are cases where the person is incredibly invested in the spirit that's been visiting, and those cases do go on for a long time because the onus really is on the person seeing the spirit, not me, you know, who's just doing the background check kind of thing.
And you'd be amazed how many people actually do have that relationship.
I'll be back sometime soon with some more spooky and strange stories from the UK.
I hope you have a lovely time, and until then, I wish you all a very good night.
Good night everyone, m m m hm hm
