Nice, Very nice.
Front back leader's garment quite happy.
So all in it.
Looks looks pretty.
Good in that bad boy.
Excellent time.
Thanks for the word you're looking for is.
Look at that thing look beautiful, done beautiful Now you're.
Ready for this?
Welcome back to the ITV podcast, the original and still the best New Zealand mountain bike podcast bought to you by Mex's tires and Fox suspension world champions and World Cup overall winners with Jackson Goldstone.
I mean, what more could you ask for?
Also by the fine fine focus squirt Lube.
We announced them last week as joining the show and we're very excited to have them on board for all your bike Lube needs, bike cleaning, even a bit of shimmy cream, which I tested out today.
So I've really elevated my endurance game by testing shammy cream for the very first time in my life.
I'm sure you'll all want to in depth review on that.
But before we get too far into it, we've got the usual band back together.
Everyone's here.
I'll start in my top.
Chris Vandicult, welcome back mate.
Gotta be here.
Where did you?
Would you?
Would you test the Shammy Cream cabbie just in the regular places or did you?
Just just in the just in the regular.
I was, I was advised by listen just external.
So I just just used external areas.
So popping in your coffee or anything or just no on this toast.
No, I haven't tried it on Toast.
Lister, you're back.
I'm back, yeah.
Great to be back again yeah, I've been.
I can't even why I missed the last one.
I think it was family things going on.
I.
Think it was heat adaption training that was what I'd heard.
Oh, it's too late for that now.
You were.
On the trainer in the rain.
It did cross my mind, but no, I'm blowing up.
And Red Dog, he's here.
You're always here, you're reliable.
You're like the Toyota of the podcast.
You're always here.
You're always reliable.
I am the Toyota of the podcast day.
I'm always here.
I always start.
You might actually.
Be like can't be killed.
Yeah, you might be like the Toyota Hilux of my friends, even.
You're always reliable.
You're always ticks back.
I agree.
With that but.
The group doesn't take a while.
I'd say it's the Toyota High Ace of my friend group.
Yeah, the kind of the 2.4 diesel.
Yeah, but the kind that's been used as a vegetable delivery van for the last sort of 30 years?
Smells of half rotting.
Was the Previa?
Was the Previa a Toyota model?
Because that's probably more red dog it.
Was it?
Was the one I owned was in a steamer and there was a Toyota model.
Yeah, the steamer.
That's right.
Yeah, RIP.
Are you actually Tongan?
Week 160 we could do a whole podcast on red dogs vans.
Well, we did.
We did kick around a shirt idea this week that to highlight the vehicles of the national series.
Yeah, the Danger Bus.
Danger Bus don't have to be on this.
Great.
Unfortunately, the people who know those times are on this podcast.
Yeah, that's true.
That's true.
Yeah, we might be going too niche.
And most people can't relate because I tell you, judging by the type of vehicles that the downhill dads and mums are driving around Nelson last last week whenever it was the secondary schools.
Yeah, there's a lot more brand new Ford Everests and and ranges and a few few Land Rover discoveries.
Not like the old room, like newest.
No, you were heavily exposed to the new world of mountain bike racing last week with the secondary schools on here.
And I've just realized as well as well came you've always said that when you go to the downhill races these days, you just kind of hang out with the dads and chat to them.
I'm starting to think you're actually you just, you're just looking for investment.
Yeah.
You just chatted behind it.
Worse.
Yeah.
Yeah, right, Podcast that's.
Right.
So if there's any downhill after days out there that want to throw a few throw investment dolls our way can't guarantee any returns, but.
We could mention this, we could mention their kids on the podcast.
Might help if.
Any applicability of those information coming yesterday?
Absolutely.
I'm going to start my first item on my podcast thoughts notes this week is Sammy Maxwell what an absolute legend here first first ever World Cup overall title in mountain biking for a Kiwi and she just what a what a season like 6 was the worst result.
She's just been incredible.
She.
Sound pretty?
All but one round, is that right?
I think that's about one race.
Yeah, I think the six was the worst result.
And we're Canal.
Yeah.
Sound crazy?
Nothing.
Coming across the line was kind of, to me, just kind of summed up Sammy.
Like she gave some high fives as she was coming to the line and then she just cruised across the line.
There was no big fanfare, no arms in the ear or look at me or whatever.
And then it was basically just all about one, like acknowledging kind of what she'd been through with the stress of it all and blah, blah, blah, but also just her team and, you know, trusting those around her and all that.
And it was very, very obvious at the finish there how much value she puts into her team that she's in was pretty awesome.
She's so genuine, which is what I what I love about her.
Like there's no, absolutely no fronting with her.
Like she just, she says what she thinks, she lets it RIP.
Like there's no hiding behind anything.
Did you guys say there was a clap?
I think it was the easy I put up after after the the second last round.
She's on the ground absolutely tapped.
It looks like she can't really stand, and there's a little girl in the, in the keyhole that yells her name, and Sammy drags herself up off the ground to go and like, give this girl a big hug and stuff.
It's like, fucking hell, this, that's, that's how it's done.
It's class.
There was another video where she got on the microphone after she crossed the line with like the live announcer and I think that was the girl she was looking for.
She was like shouting out a name.
We're such and such.
And I'm pretty sure that was who it was.
And she found her and like gave her her bracelets or whatever that she had on when she was racing and.
That's awesome, yeah.
Do you think Sammy would come on as the patron St.
of the of the podcast?
I prefer talk to her management about that and I think she's, I think she's, I think she's got too big for us now.
I doubt it.
I think she wouldn't say that.
No, no.
Should we?
Just have to get in the line a little bit I think.
Yeah, exactly.
Fantastic role model though, I like you, couldn't be more proud for someone like her to win really.
Yeah, I was actually thinking like as as far as just general New Zealand sports people that like the way that she carries herself and her season that she's had topped off with the overall win has got to be up there in terms of, you know, like very historic New Zealand sporting anything titles.
I.
Mean we've we've never had anyone.
Close.
She's the she's the steeliness that that Kiwi sports people fucking love, right?
Just the humility and the normalness and then she's crashing at the top of the sport.
Like, I don't know, maybe there's a bit of rant, but I wish we could find a way in New Zealand to actually embrace people from outside the mainstream sports when it's not Olympic years.
Because you know, Sammy's she's someone that that cables would love.
What does it like if you're if you own a big dairy brand in New Zealand, or you work for one, here's a spokesperson for you.
Get her on board.
Do you know some of those?
Corporate sponsors?
Well, she's got Ford.
She doesn't.
She doesn't talk to her.
Yeah, yeah.
Is she?
Do you think she's in line?
I hope so.
I.
Reckon she's driving a A like I reckon she's driving a carrier.
A Ford carrier, but an older one that's too early, like a 2.
Wheel drive single kid they passed.
Down.
It's actually an X trader.
Yeah.
Yeah, she requested.
One that was originally sold to a farmer.
Her dad bought it.
Her dad bought it.
You were in 1985.
Yeah, right.
There's a brand new Ranger in the.
Driveway manual said some good panel beatings.
Do you think she's in line for a for a for the Halberg Award?
You'd hope so.
I think we start the campaign.
I heard she's getting a Nobel Prize.
I think she'd surely be in the conversation, right?
Like surely?
Surely.
So yeah, for Halberg, sure.
Yeah, put it this way.
Michael Campbell won the US Open, right?
One major, one round of golf, and he got knighted.
I think something should be We don't.
We don't knight.
Ladies do it.
Dane.
Dane, what is that?
Yeah.
There you go.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Should be they and she's just concerned it actually sounds legit too.
It does sound pretty legit.
Does does she need to be like a little bit further into her career though?
Like on the backside of the career before you get like damed?
Is that what's called being damed?
Nah, Nah, stood down now.
Yep.
Get it done.
Get.
It get it done, make it happen.
We could do it.
We'll get her on the bottom.
We'll do it.
We'll do it.
I've got to.
I've got to say though, like I watched the race live this morning and holy shit, Jenny Risvids was on a mission, though.
I think that was the biggest winning margin in XC World Cup history.
Like 3 1/2 minutes in the end.
And Sammy was like, yeah, it was, it was 3 1/2 minutes.
And then Sammy was like a minute something over AV.
Like it was, it was huge.
Risvids.
She just looks like she's out for a Sunday ride though.
Didn't even look like she was like.
She looked like she was working, but she didn't look.
She didn't look spent like.
Nah.
That was crazy.
I did find it interesting when she'd come across the line so comparing her when she came to her team versus when Sammy came to her team.
And granted this slightly different scenarios, but Jenny's just wrapped up an unreal winning streak.
Just the difference between the two teams was quite massive.
Like Jenny's was quite calm, no real big embraces.
It was kind of like some smiles and I would see some chat and where Sammy's was like everyone just going absolutely NATO.
I thought that's quite interesting.
I did like Sammy's team had all their like #1 T-shirts on, like obviously World Cups, but they had them on underneath other tops.
I noticed because when Sammy was finishing up her lap, like I think it was maybe the team manager, he's on the sideline and he sees it come through and he peels it off straight away.
Like he rips his top layer off so he's got the number one top on.
It was so good.
Super.
Good.
Yeah, great racing there.
Yeah, I mean for so many Kiwis this weekend I was talking to people at work at lunchtime and they have seen Sammy from the Olympic debacles.
Yeah.
But, you know, I was like, you know, she's just one of so many Kiwis at the moment on mountain biking doing so well and.
I mean, I know Red Dog loves the lifetime Grand Prix, but how about Cam Jones winning Little Sugar this morning as well?
That was another massive win for him so.
That was, yeah, he's really becoming one of the major players and I think like Cabin and I were messaging this morning and the top three are within one point of each other.
Yeah.
And 4th is a one point back from there.
So definitely that top 4 is still all to play for in this next round.
Yeah, they got one, one round left so that all are.
We talking about racing now?
Yeah, what is the life it was.
Actually mountain bike today it was 100.
Yesterday.
Yeah, it's a Today it.
Was drop bars and somewhere near mountain bikes?
I don't get it.
What?
What's not on this one?
There wasn't.
No, there's no drop bars this weekend.
There was a lot of people smashing wheels and slicing tyres.
You're a very.
Big guy, you love it so well and and mountain biking that you can't even keep track of the number of different disciplines that we're doing well.
And.
It's true, I find the time to watch so much like the gotta get it out there.
I just don't have the time.
About the only thing we're missing is that we've got Sam gays, but I was gonna say the only thing we're missing is like a strong male XC racer, but I'm.
Sorry, I was talking about from the podcast.
We're we're definitely.
Missing a.
Lot of a lot of strong males seeing a lot of other things from the podcast.
No one on this podcast because.
I did a strong mail on the podcast.
No one's even.
Close.
I was talking about XC racing.
Good New Zealand, but.
How did how did it go from the shop this this weekend?
I didn't even see his name.
A.
Couple of.
Times and the results when I scanned through, but yeah, it's been a bit up and down.
Yeah.
Download racing.
Download racing.
Yeah, it's download racing.
Sure.
Should we?
Should we should we just start on the elite meds because that that brought all the drama.
That was the that was the weirdest race to watch and just Bernie's not in the start gate.
There was.
I've never seen anything like it.
Fuck, I tell.
You like historical sporting moment?
I think the premier like the absolute peak of the sport and one of the main protagonists is just a no show and they managed to keep it.
Quiet.
Yeah, I did love the confusion that even the commentary team are just like, ah, he's having a baby pretty soon so maybe something's happened.
Like we'd probably be faster and ride your bike down the hill than to go back to the gondola if that was the case, but.
Yeah, I would.
I would.
He's to rescue Gary.
He.
Was in the start box, wasn't he?
No, he.
Was in the art was that he he was at the start Hut he was.
I think he was at the start Hut but he but he.
Didn't go into the gondola.
Oh, right, yeah.
There's only that salty old dog who was like, Nah, the show's over, folks.
Yeah, they pulled the wand out.
Yeah, they just handled it.
The confusion on Jackson's face of just standing there, like I felt it was Jackson.
It was a real let down to what was such an epic climax to the season.
Like it was everything was falling into place.
Like Bernie was had to get a top three, which you know, there's a very good chance he was going to do.
Jackson lays down an absolute insane run and you're like, last man down the hill is going to be the person who seals the fight of the season.
And then he's not there.
You're just like, what the What the fuck's going on?
I felt there for Jackson, like he, he looked crushed because he must have been hanging.
He must have been waiting for like a fight, right?
Waiting to see what would happen.
And then he's like, what?
That's it.
He looked so deflated and it must be made worse by the fact that that people speculating that like I just pulled pin and didn't want to race, which obviously was not the case, but.
Yeah, there was a lot of a lot of shit comments on social media about that.
People like saying why did he even show up there?
Like that was bullshit that he even went to the top and blah, blah.
And I'm like, man, the guy did everything in his power to try.
Like he got up there if something, you know, even if Jackson had got a fourth and his run or, you know, was third, I guarantee you like would have started.
But the fact that Jackson went into first, he knew it was over at that point.
Like he wasn't going to do a top three run with how he was feeling.
And it looked pretty beaten up.
Lower looks got to be one of the most professional guys on the game.
100% he'd be pulling some bullshit, you know?
No, no.
The way that they played that though, like I think that deserves a lot of respect that they managed to like keep a lid on it, keep it quiet until there was a decision essentially made for them.
And then like that, that's professional sport.
They they played it.
That's a high level kind.
Of they they pushed Jackson to the well, yeah.
And and and in saying that, Jackson delivered.
Didn't he?
Like, yeah.
One of the appreciation he.
Was steady walk.
Jackson, I think, was probably partly confused because he pretty much looked like he was willing to die for that.
Like he was willing to die.
It was ridiculous.
And so I guess once you when you put it all on the line and then the guy doesn't like isn't there, you're like, I risked all of that.
From not just that Jackson rode through those rocks was just mental, just it looked like, I mean, you've ridden that red dog.
Those things are like the biggest square edge curbs you'll ever see.
Yeah, all pointed and.
He he didn't even look like there was any square edges on them, just a whole lot.
He bounced through them like in three jumps.
Some of the gaps and backslides and stuff that he found, no one else was even.
How was how was that one that he pre jumped into in the open and nose done?
Oh my God, yeah, that was savage.
I watched this helmet Cam run and I saw the rock he picked up off because I was trying to work out what I was like.
There must have been something he jumped off to kind of like line it up as a gap and then there was a rock quite far back that he kind of picks up off.
Obviously there's nothing much to it, but man, he knows that thing and he, he.
That's.
Crazy.
Like when he's on a run like that, he looks like he's going so fast that he's finding lines that that he's not seen before because he's just.
Yeah, like.
Can only do them at that speed.
Yeah, and I bet there's happening some of the time.
How's that next section down after after the rocks?
And they kind of went out in the open and then they jumped in to that section.
Tripled in.
Yeah, they were like tripling in, making a slight right and then gapping down that sort of like step down thing again.
And they were coming in so fucking fast into that and just bouncing off the corner and basically skimming off the top of a lip, which was something that hadn't even been jumped until like 3 years ago.
Of all the years at monsoon in it was that was wild.
There's guys that have been there before, the Stevie Smith.
Drop that.
Wasn't there any other day?
Yeah, I suppose not on my day, son.
Wouldn't they?
Wouldn't.
That's a lighter.
Expecting.
Would they?
No, that's a lighter edition.
Used to just have a series of corners underneath the lift was like.
Lester went there before there was a a chairlift.
But we we were riding runs there.
But they did one climb they had.
To push the whole way up the hill.
It's just the fire and the downhill on the same bike.
Yeah, that was living secondary schools.
I'm taking off.
No climbing, stand downhill.
Yeah.
Anymore.
That's the traffic.
No way.
Do you know what though?
Did you guys pay attention to the fact that ASA vomit was .3 of a second faster than Jackson?
Yes.
He was in the end.
I wasn't quite sure about that.
I knew he must have been close.
Yes, his run was pretty sick too.
Yeah, his run was tidy though, like he was.
He looked much less like he was going to die than Jackson did.
Yeah, I felt I was like, man, this is this is the ace you've been expecting to see all season?
Yes, of course, that deteriorated, do you think?
I don't know if it would have that much because Mont St.
Anne is basically like it's.
Surprise where it's pretty.
Historic.
Like it's so beaten down to the base.
But also where where Jackson made his time because he was, he was only first in one sector, right?
But he was 2 1/2 seconds faster.
And the rocks.
Like that, that amount of time over the whole course would be a huge margin that he put that amount of time into that one sector is fucking insane.
And I was because I was watching ones what I was wondering watching Jackson, how like there must be times where his style is not as fast as it looks and then times the star is where it's just way faster than anyone could ever be.
And that sector was one of them, right?
Because he was just as wild in the other other sections, but it was that one where he closed all the time.
Yeah, that was just mental through there, that.
Place it'd be interesting to see.
I haven't taken any notice of the splits, but it'd be interesting to see where all the splits line up and then watch those sections of all those different people and see like how does Aces run through their compare speed wise and what does it look like compared to Jackson's one?
Yeah, if you got real tricky on it, there's probably, they've probably got both GoPro runs up on YouTube ready.
To go, we just.
Go to the side by side the ghost.
Chris Kilmari, where you at?
Quickly going to dip into the juniors, while we talked about Acer, Jaunty and Tyler second and third, well, Tyler and Jaunty second and third.
Man, strong showing those two have been awesome this year.
I've been pretty.
Stoked to see what they've been doing.
Yeah, Palmy's right.
Yeah.
Good.
We we did get confirmation that it was Tyler's mum that bought a T-shirt.
It was actually a present for his dad.
So his dad was John.
Podcast.
John yeah, Jaunty's mum.
Yeah, yeah, that's right.
And he's he did say Palmy rules.
Yeah, it makes.
Me try.
I'm relatively proud, you know, just to know that we've got someone out there representing the the great region of Thomas Norton.
Yeah, who would have thought?
Yeah.
You could just you could argue.
This I'm going to say to me, who would have thought?
Excuse me very much Red Dog and I.
Was producing champions it?
Has you could argue that you guys actually laid the foundations for Jaunty's success?
I don't think you could argue.
I think you, you, you would argue like it's not even an argument.
It's that's like a fact.
Who are you?
What's the?
Foundations.
Headley Boyce.
Headley Boyce.
Oh, Boise, where's the orange sticky shorts at?
Mike Fleiger.
Fleiger.
Oh man, you.
Got 3 Did you?
Did you guys see Max?
Did you guys see Max Aldrin's finger from practice?
One of his.
Fingers, one of his fingers was just pointing sideways.
It was pretty gross.
So he still laid down a pretty insane run as well to to seal up the the overall.
So well done to.
Max, I think he's going to go places.
I think he's already there.
Yeah.
I'll tell you what an elite field it's going to be next year.
It's.
Quite exciting.
I think it's going to be quite good.
Like straight away lock and Jackson, because it's presumably like sorts of league thing out he'll come and swinging because he won't be able to let this go right.
So you've got that straight away and then you've got is it Max or till Max is the older?
Max is Max is the faster 1 I think.
Who's the older they are?
They're the same.
I think that that twins, aren't they?
Right.
Well, that's not like they're in the same year.
Yeah, well, one can't be older, one can't be faster than the other than they're twins.
They they could be nine months apart, but imagine if they tie up a race run.
Just imagine.
Can we confirm, are they twins?
How do we?
Get to that?
Well, it's more a question of who's getting bottom bunk now they're moving up to the big house.
They were both they were both born in the same year.
So it doesn't guarantee that twins, but they've they're not their their parents were busy.
As as a parent.
Yeah, no, surely that's one.
I've got it.
I gotta be.
I gotta.
Be I find it quite funny hey how one of them's like got a reasonable grasp on English and the other one doesn't Really.
Is it Max who does it until now?
Max is Max is better Till's.
Yeah the the best is when when interviews Till and he has no idea what 1's talking about.
Absolutely.
What 1 was saying that Max just learns all the English from watching Win's podcast.
That one's anyone's.
Yeah, he watches.
He watches.
He runs vlogs.
This reason is.
English run English, that's why.
That's why he sounds like.
Bernard Kerr when he talks from the UK for.
Some reason it's a ladder man all the time.
Sam Crawford.
About the way they run it these times.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's right.
He's already got preconceived.
Ideas anyway.
Shit woman's though, Ali.
Yeah, first qualifier was a.
Killer.
Killer, right?
Yeah.
Yeah, second in the finals, which I'm sure again, she's probably pissed about, but at least she's finished the season pretty strong.
Yeah, she yummy back.
She wrote very aggressively.
I it was quite, quite good to watch, but yeah, not quite enough.
No the finish line.
I think she's got a bright future ahead of her once she gets settled into elites so.
Yeah, it's going to be.
That'll be good thing.
I mean, she'll be hungry, that's for sure.
Why have they not elating her ate at the syndicate?
Is that kind of what happens over?
There not at least.
You know how it works, The Syndicate Red dog.
You eat what you kill, so you're going to kill it first to take it to Steve, and Steve decides who gets to eat.
Steve missed the last two races.
That's why like at at the Syndicate, if you're, if you're on like a bad St.
you have a rough race.
It's really hard to come back because you don't get fed the next week.
Like it's that's very rough.
Yeah, brutal.
Yeah, this stuff and.
Kathy, what's the deal with the P card as well?
So oh.
No.
What's the?
Deal with Lori Greenland.
He didn't ride at all.
Sorry, we're not crutches, but.
Don't know.
Oh, really?
Well, I'm pretty sure it was him.
I saw a photo and he was in the background.
It appeared that he was on crutches, but I don't know what the deal was there.
I've heard, yeah, he didn't start.
I've I've heard rumblings through the Grapevine that he's out and going elsewhere.
You've been reading Vital.
I don't actually read, I don't actually read Vital, but is that on Vital?
Is it?
It is on Vital, yeah.
Yeah.
Did you put it there?
No, you don't read it, but you sure as hell.
Put it so he doesn't read it, but he contributes to it.
So a writer than a reader.
It'll be interesting to see whose slots on there where that goes.
I have.
Who's free?
Who's who's?
Well, Andy, Andy Cole was the first one that springs to mind because here's another one for you.
Chris Kilmarry and his nerd stats headed just a just a little one liner and they're saying nice to see future teammates sharing the podium together.
Didn't didn't allude to what podium it was or anything, but that was the only one out of all the podiums that I could make sense that it would possibly be.
Didn't he have at the bottom of that in a little thing like double checked with Andy Cole or something like that?
Oh.
I didn't.
I didn't read that part.
My eyes aren't good enough.
Yeah, I think that was that post.
But yeah, if I got on there and was like, this is not fake news.
But then I've also heard that he signed with Scott.
So it'd be be interesting to see he's he's proved his worth, man, has he proved his worth.
He is.
He is rocked pretty, pretty rocks well, not rock solid.
He's had some, he's had some serious spade at the end of the season, but he's good to see him land on the box for the last race.
Can you can you see a good scenario where another top 10 racer goes to the syndicate though?
You got a guy like Jackson?
I think it's a bit like the lowest situation where can you have two top ten guys on a team like that.
Yeah, common cell, don't they?
Yeah, how's that someone?
Have 4.
Common Cell are about to have four.
They had three in the finals.
There's the point though, right?
Like, like is, is how's it going to be Common Cell next year?
Is Loris still going to be?
Because Loris might not be in the top bank anymore.
I still think that Jackson would be, you know, he's still clearly the number one guy over a guy like Cole.
But if you've got someone like Cole who can get on the box, that's the ultimate scenario to have another dude like that.
Well, I suppose that's The thing is it's like fact.
He was still, he was on.
He's on the podium, right?
Yeah.
Like, Jackson's just doing so fucking well in some of these races that it's sort of overshadows just how good he ran out is doing.
Yeah, actually Speaking of that, how good's Luca Shore been the last two races?
That was my guy speaking.
Overshadowed.
I'm so glad to see Luca back and forth.
That's heartwarming.
You're actually the Americans as a whole.
You had Luca in second deck and 4th, which again, another guy who I didn't even think was going to be racing this season given that he smashed his pelvis in the offseason.
Pinky and 5th.
Maples and 10th you had even Midcalf who I've seen his name but Privateer guy in 12th and then Gwen in 17th along with Aletha winning junior woman and Acer winning junior men.
So the Americans are strong right now.
I think Chris Gross qualified for finals as well, didn't it?
That's the name I haven't seen.
He didn't make it to finals.
That's the name I haven't seen for a while.
I know that's why I pulled it up, but no, I was wrong.
How's this?
So Cole in Q1 was 74th.
He must have got a flat or something because he was like right at the back pinky DNF D and then so they both came through from Q2 to get third and 5th respectively.
It's pretty strong.
Real SO.
From a rough start to the day.
Pretty impressive for sure.
That'd be hard on that trick to like just go all in.
Yeah, you didn't get that you.
Know that race pace run prior.
Yeah, it'd be an easy one to try and push on and have a bag of of the bars.
Came here for lunch into the tree.
Well.
I was just there going.
I was going to ask what you guys made of Lucky's crash because Jesus Christ, that looked he was lucky.
Worst case, look right coming into those rocks, that's the thing you feel most.
I saw a shot, I think he had it on a story today of him that's kind of from behind.
And the way he slams into the rocks with his body that just bring him to an absolute stop was pretty grim.
The fact he got up from that, just like Cami getting up from her crash as the medics were basically telling people to get away from her and so she kicks her own bike off her.
Yeah, it's up.
So I think.
It was not like, down when she hit the tree.
Yeah, which she like, goes over the bars and then upside down into the.
I mean, fortunately it was padded, but still, it's pretty gnarly.
There was a hard hit and Gracie Hemstreet's crash at the end.
Holy shit.
Just exit stage right off into the crowd.
I actually, I gotta confess, I didn't see that one.
You.
Didn't.
Find that now?
I didn't watch the Whole Woman's.
I watched.
I watched the highlights, to be fair.
She lands off that drop, she's out, and then just gets spat to the right and she's just gone.
Right, right by the finish.
Right at the finish.
Oh, right.
Wow.
That's so fast.
And she just goes into the crowd, just disappears.
Did she?
Did she?
Slide Like did the front go on the takeoff or something?
I feel like it.
Must have slightly she winked on her or something.
She looked like she went deep off it.
I don't know whether she slurred or.
Just went.
Too deep?
Yeah.
Like it was like she overturned and then we that made her go deep and then just seemed it.
Speaking of the women's racing, because I normally watch everything delayed, don't normally get to watch racing live, and I generally skip through all the stupid intro filler stuff they do on each rider.
I watch those all live.
Boy the girls love doing the love heart hands and their little intro videos.
I've been.
Outdated.
Videos all year.
So I've got a real gripe about this or a question.
Do you think that all the riders get sent a couple of poses?
They all have to the poses because the guys also do order the knee thing.
What's the knee thing?
All the.
Arms.
They get down on there like on one knee.
Otherwise known as the rifle.
It's maybe the jeans.
Maybe the intro people just couldn't think of anything else to do and so they just picked one move for each of them.
Like girls, you're doing love hearts and guys, you're mean mugging the camera.
Get down.
On it, Yeah, I think that's what they're doing.
That's kind of sounds like a.
Get down on a knee or do like big arms crossed.
It feels like they were put up to a day and then, yeah, in the background there's just like nuclear meltdown music going on.
I do, you know what?
I actually treated myself for the final round and I watched the entire race on mute.
Did.
You, yeah.
That's raw dog and it's.
Such a great insight and take care a minute I've treated myself by watching Daniel racing on mute.
Well.
I did have it on.
I did have it on for a little bit through some of the woman's.
Commentating to yourself.
I was just, I watched, I watched the woman's with the commentary on for a bit.
And then I was like, it was actually the nuclear meltdown music in the back of the intros.
Yeah.
And I was like, I, I can't do this.
And so I just, I put my laptop on mute and I just watched it all talk shows on mute.
What was that?
Is it ecubus?
Atrius.
Each rider needs to pick their own intro music I reckon.
Yeah, totally.
Would they just make the Australians have ACDC on them?
No, yeah, they weren't yet, because how could they?
Not what would the Kiwis have, do you think?
Who would choose point A by the partier multi club?
Yeah, Yes, that would be a strong and strong.
It'd be so good or two teta minor a we would also oh.
Yeah, yeah, that.
Would be good, yeah.
I think that really makes the case that we we need to try and record an alternative commentary I.
Think I'm just thinking about, you know, each of us, what would our walk on music be?
I'm thinking is that up does?
It have to be does it have really we track.
Mine would be mine would be anything from the the Pusher soundtrack.
Like mine would be.
Real punishing late 2000s kind of grunge punk.
Yeah, nice might be scribe.
Obviously not many.
James Rooney.
Oh yeah, that would be good.
Strong red dot KB, come on.
I don't know.
I've been, I've been trying to think, but I'm, I reckon I'd want to be something classic like from the dudes or something, you know, like some real classic Kiwi rock.
I can't think of anything really good at the moment so.
I've I've just mine's just come to mind Harness racing.
Hi.
Hi, yes, how?
Was that I wasn't.
That bad?
Actually, you know what?
Yeah, it wasn't.
Yeah.
I would just get Ox to record me bespoke walk on song.
Yeah.
About you.
Now we're talking.
Yeah, yeah.
That'll be exceptional walk on the hot rod, just just peeling one out.
Just doing a boot out.
Yeah, when's our Rockstar Co Lib kit coming out?
We should do one.
I'm just doing.
Just one.
Just just throw a Rockstar and see what happens.
Just.
Just proceed somewhere.
Yeah, yeah, I think we should.
I've got some of the conversation.
I've got some some female elite notes that I would like to bring up for the agenda.
It's very, very strong.
Right Again from Sasha Earnest, another great result.
Hopefully, she says, it's.
True question.
No, I think we can.
I think we can all collectively second it and pass it.
Great.
She's.
Pretty good, got that in the minutes is.
She supposed to push that trick?
I think her contract is up this year from what I gather.
So I think it's contract time from what I from what I gather.
Does the podcast think that staying at Trek would actually be a good thing?
Because I've been real surprised by the amount of chat there's been about being constantly developing the bike throughout the year.
And I saw a clip for some photos from the to the updates at Montana and where they had a an old idler frame they're building up for post race testing.
And it made me wonder, especially with like young guys on the team, like we're talking about last week, just have they got the bike dialed and should they be fucking with it that much during the season?
I don't think they do and I think this is a very good question to bring up because Lucky was on a different frame this weekend from last.
So yeah, it was last week they were on like a darker colour frame and this week it was like a looked like it was a gold sort of frame that he was on.
So he was definitely on a different frame.
It's.
Just paint them all different colours they've done it for.
You man, I wouldn't think they would have done them between these rounds.
Like they've been all pretty consistent.
He was on a different one to the others from what I can.
Get that I can.
Like a different color?
I mean, you could only go through colors a lot, yeah.
The trick team has some good kits and they constantly change them.
You could only notice them talking to someone like Lucky.
But makes you wonder how much like change race to race is a good thing or a bad thing.
But even kids like tune up.
Everything's as it should be.
You're ready to go and just focus on racing, but if you're thinking about a new bike this week, you can't.
I don't know how it looked that it are.
Is that not just more noise to deal with?
Yeah, that they've definitely been struggling with that bike.
There's no doubt about it.
They've been changing, they've had new linkages on there, so they've been changing those.
I think they've struggled with stiffness in the back end of them.
So they still run A1, they still run a 148 back end in those bikes.
They're not a.
They're not a 157 downhill rear end Which.
Is hell one on a 135?
We're all good.
Everyone's on a 135, then they.
There's there's a rumor floating around that that next year they're going to be running repainted intenses.
Do you know what I would love to, I would love to see a team just come out on a repainted bike.
That would be so good.
Who's turning up with giants that have been resprayed?
Oh, man, Giants, because Giants just going to turn up next year with intenses again.
Oh, those are the days.
Yeah, it's true.
Yeah.
Strong.
Gina Hastings made finals with a good ride as well on Simmons.
That's a good result.
That was good, yeah.
I was real stoked to see Valley Hole in shorts.
Oh, it looked good too.
I thought we were going to finally have a reset of The Who last one in short step because she was calling us and then she got a flat tire so that sucked.
The the shorts.
Were a strong look.
Yeah.
Bring it back, I'm here for it.
Bring it back.
Someone needs to just start campaigning them.
So imagine if someone in the top ten.
This would be like hell when he bought pants and.
Pants and again.
Someone needs to campaign shorts again.
And just like Jackson, you imagine if Jackson just goes and races next season in shorts.
Sure, everyone will be back wearing shorts.
Yeah, there'd definitely be tight ones.
Annoyingly though.
Yeah, he should just run that speed suit with a cut off with the bottoms cut off.
And like the top of the speed suit hanging down like a day and.
Easy.
I think it can sport though.
Speaking of which, that speed suit that he was wearing, I, I, yeah, cannot see how that adheres to the role of the the old pinch test.
No.
What type does the pinch exist still?
Does it still exist the pinch test?
I think so.
Not.
No, I think.
The rules the.
Rules are more around like it has to be a two piece garment.
Yeah, it has to be a.
Separate.
Common bottom.
That's why it's a set of overalls who have.
I mean if it has to be a two piece garment and the pinch test didn't really matter, surely you would just be running like condom pants and a latex shirt?
Well, I think that's what he's running.
I mean, essentially yes, but why go if if that rule, there must be some sort of something in the NBA might need to actually read the rule one day and then.
I'll tell you one thing about that speed suit of his is that it is far too short on the torso.
Between the crutch and the shoulders there is that thing is really pulled tight.
That's that's true.
He was.
Standing in the.
Keyhole trying to pull it down and get rid of the camel toe.
The weird thing with this big suit is that like when he stands there, it's sort of loose.
That dude must weigh about 60 KGS or less soaking wet.
Yeah, I also find it interesting that that not all.
Well, not all the time.
Laurie really hasn't always run it.
I think it depends on the writers.
I think there's only certain writers are in it because the other June, the other junior writers never been in it and a few of the other Fox writers I've noticed haven't been in it either.
So I think it's more of a like top elite writer type thing.
Isn't it more they actually what's that its host Steve decides to give it to that way.
Well, no, they make it out of the pelt for us.
What if you hunt and care of it if you don't have enough pelt?
To.
Very finely.
That totally makes you can.
You don't.
You don't get one.
Yeah.
Sorry not to not to distract things here KB, but that cat award goes to Canyon again.
Yeah, I guess.
Strong Yeah.
Yeah, that cat was legit.
It's really, it's heartening to hear that Troy Lee has taken on our feedback and they're pulling, you know, getting the kit, going back together.
So that's good.
I think that's the good we've done in the world.
Yeah, now it.
Was Troy's good?
Yeah.
Absolutely.
Maybe that's it.
Yeah, do.
You know what I still can't get on board with?
Is that Scott kit?
No, I like it.
I I don't hate it.
Yeah.
Fuck that and the Atherton kit.
Oh no, yes, yeah, no.
That I've got no time for.
Especially when they read camo like you.
Just Luke Wayman though.
Don't win camo.
Yeah, I was about to say, Speaking of evidence, Luke Wayman, 11th place, It was a he was flying.
It was a real good run.
He's their top rider.
He is, he is #1 definitely ending the season at top is.
It too bad we should do a GoFundMe to get them a new kit for next year too.
Yeah, I don't know if they're coming.
Maybe there's there's kind of rumours that they might not be.
Not at all the whole time.
Well, that doesn't.
Surprise me too much.
Has been thrown out there, but I don't know, because it's, yeah, you wonder.
You wonder how much investment is really worthwhile for them when you know the Athens themselves aren't racing anymore.
It's also would make more, a lot of that team must be coming from Continental, right, Because they're they're a big title sponsor of that.
And you'd have to think that it would be more effective Continental to try and be on more teams than be a dominant supporter of one team.
Who is watching something right now?
Red Dog.
It was dog like calling his only fans account At the same time.
Do you know that Red Dog recording was our only fans?
Defeat Red Dog.
He's in a Teams meeting at the same time.
No, like the Spotify on my computer.
Just started playing a rival podcast.
Well, they're not really.
They're far better than us.
They can't be from New Zealand because we are the original installers.
It's not a it's not a mountain bike podcast.
OK, well it's not a rival then, it's a.
Heavy one, we're all.
Going for the we're not well, KB's got 1 coming out with him this week, doesn't he?
Should we change this to mountain bikers only?
I own a step.
40% of podcasts don't get past 8 episodes.
Well, look at us, guy.
Really.
Only.
Four years deep.
Interesting.
I think that's an episode to be on it.
Man, I think it's like, I think it's like 90 something that have gone out all up.
So it's.
Not too bad it didn't go out.
How many have we done that didn't go out?
The lost tapes I have.
Definitely a few that have not made it.
I have threatened a few times that this episode is not going to go out, but I've always managed to pull them together.
But yeah, how did you guys go on fantasy?
Pretty good, I think, yeah.
If I came up with the next year to do fantasy downhill properly, I.
Hope so.
You know, I don't think I've ever managed it.
I'm so fucking bad at it.
I it just, I don't know why I ever bothered doing it, but I feel like I should because there's an OTB fantasy league which actually had nearly two, actually had nearly 200 people playing, which I was pretty impressed with.
He has.
To get into that.
Is if you can't trade riders in the real world mid season shouldn't it?
Shouldn't have a fantasy set your team up at the beginning of the season and if you get an injury then you can pull someone off the bench.
But they have to not worry to be on a factory team.
But you can you can go and grab someone who's not pull up, privateer up.
Yeah, exactly.
That seems complex.
Give me, give me a fantasy league that has privacy, isn't it?
But the people that did do well, Carl Brandt took the overall by one point, so get on your car.
He's actually a local Nelson Mountain Bike Club committee member, so I'm going to have to drop him off a T-shirt at the committee meeting tomorrow night.
Oh good.
If you're listening, all right, I can only assume you are.
Get in touch, mate, and we'll have you on about about just setting up a bit of a deal for you to run my team next year.
Yes.
Let me know what your rights are.
I'm looking for a team manager, so just yeah.
A lifestyle Chris just contract and delegate.
Everyone's got a price.
Any other World Cup thoughts you guys got?
Anything else you want to bring up?
Any other?
Any other agenda items to bring up on the World Cup while we're at it?
I think, you know, I'd just like to say that what a good season that's actually been.
I feel like it was a good season.
Lots of teams.
Going on and.
Very good races well.
Yeah.
Yeah, 10 races was good I reckon.
Lots of storylines.
Midsummer break was good.
How could?
We.
Waited a couple of months now and then the whole World Cup circus just descended on Queenstown for a big money race that was the season over.
Yeah.
Fucking great would that be and we got to see all the new elite riders racing head to head with like the rest of the elite field.
Well, did you listen to the podcast I did with Eddie?
We spitballed this idea.
I I so that's the 11 I haven't gone back and listened to.
I've got a so I had a back.
So the idea that I've had and Coronet Peak would be the ultimate place for it is you do like if one qualifying style.
So it's just, yeah, we've got an hour to go punch out laps and then the top ten move through from that and then they go down to the top five and then in the end you've just got Ronan Dunn and Jackson Goldstone riding out of their absolute minds down Coronet Peak to win.
Yeah, no, I I'm a huge fan of that model.
I'd like to see it happen.
Coronet Peak would be the ultimate.
It's a pretty low risk hill.
You can see a lot of track.
The turn around time is incredibly fast on the chairlift so you could just punch out laps.
But so here's the kicker, right?
So it's it's Invitational, but the day before race day, this is also what we talked about, right?
So anyone can have a crack at it.
So you get the Queenstown locals who can ride that track real fast and will literally risk their lives for 100 bucks.
And do you know who will go through?
A bunch of 13 year old kids who have done 8.
Thousand laps up there, yeah, that's great.
And then, and then they'll just be under so much pressure to to try and compete with the world's fears and she.
Was down a good race Dad, are we down at the bottom just yelling at them to go to another lap?
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
This is deciding whether or not we go to Europe, kid.
Yeah, that could be good.
Finally there was like some sort of really rich billionaire who lived in Queenstown who had heaps of money, who was there's.
Loads of them I think Lister's pointing towards.
Do you think so, Chris?
Yeah.
Yeah, Chris might have.
Not at least.
Used to work for a company that is a guy like that so.
Oh my God, text him.
It's well established that Roger has contributed a massive amount to the amount of bike in New Zealand.
But what I would say is that he's had some misinformation, not misinformation.
I think he's been misguided in where he's placed his investment because he's put in free ride scene in Queenstown, which is it's no weight in it, right?
Like get behind downhill racing.
Keyways are dominating, you know, get behind this race.
This concept's got legs, It's got wheels.
Thanks.
No, no.
One better steal this because I've got audio proof of where the idea came from.
Yes, Sir, Sir, cut me.
In we're asking.
At least some money from at least cut me some.
Cash We sell enough ITB shirts, we'll donate some money until the.
Price we might, we might be able to put up like 80 bucks maybe, probably.
A6 pack.
And I'll tell you what though.
Like.
We've got a direct, all the World Cup mechanics and you actually like you're talking about this.
They'll be there.
Maybe we could we could get them to all pulley resources to build a bike and the we could sell the bike $1.00 reserve on trade me and all that money goes into the price pool.
There you go.
I think we're getting there now.
Category would happen at this event as ground funding as a mechanics category because I'd like I'd like to know when the mechanics go here to here, who's fastest.
It would be really interesting to know who the fastest mechanic is on the World Cup circuit.
Because this this is a question I would have loved to ask Jake, is like which of the mechanics in the World Cup circuit actually can test the riders bikes for them effectively and how far off away from seeing teams with test riders I think there is some about.
I think a lot of manufactory teams have test riders, but they're not necessarily.
But they're like desired of the.
Team.
They're part of the factory end.
Factory.
Yeah, the part of the.
Brain.
Like.
Kieran.
Not Kieran Bennett, The other Santa Cruz Kieran.
McKinnon yeah, the better one.
Oh yeah, no, I'm kind.
Of more talking about I would never say.
That race engineer mechanic Race engineer type tester.
Did Kieran McKinnon get the length that they ought to sell?
I don't think so.
That was a long time ago.
It was nearly 20 years ago.
Red Dog.
I need to let it go.
Well, let's let's put that Karen head table this Karen, see how we get on.
Bring him to Kaka.
Bring him to Kaka.
Show me what you.
Got There you go, Kaka.
I actually had no.
Buses allowed up there, though we can't run a race on there because we're not allowed to use the buses to get people up there so.
I've got a solution local.
I've got a solution local forestry business on that you can.
You you use, you use trucks with sort of a, a, a solid rear door and you set the bikes in the air with sort of.
Papers like the tights of your carpet, like some of the leads to for furniture.
Yeah, Yeah.
That, that's sort of interesting.
Yeah.
It's still a degree.
Leave the back.
Doors open and all the air and the dust comes back in.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's good for like temperature management, not so good for like someone falling out of the back.
How about the time on French Hill when Cam Cole, Weasel and I forget who else was sitting on the back of a tail lifter with the tail lifted down, just sitting on the back of their legs dangling, and the tail lifter failed and dropped them all to the ground.
Yes.
Yeah.
That's what I thought.
Good time.
Yeah.
Yeah, it was downhill.
See Liz.
How's this looking?
For the year do.
You remember when there was a Unimog taking people to the top of the trail?
That's what I.
Was about to say yeah, it was.
So it was going up so steep that you could basically, I remember JK like yeah, more or less hanging out of it it.
Was yeah, their fire break they were going up was absolutely unnecessary for them to go up, but they were just flexing that they were in a Unimog could drive up there and if you haven't been in the Unimog, it's all sideways seating so everyone at the back of it was just getting crushed oh it.
Sucks.
We were just like, hanging on.
It was crazy.
Yeah, you're literally almost hanging off the back of it.
So there's.
A Raptors for that.
I just don't see it.
The Unimog, in case you're not aware, as an old military truck that was used for transporting people down or how fucked was downhall back in the day.
That was how good was it?
Grassroots, grassroots.
They also we still can't believe.
Can you imagine that the club's like cool, we're putting it down a race on how we're going to the top.
It was the the.
Animal, it was the army.
They had like people from the army.
It was like they were there on.
That's good.
Just driving it and everything, yeah.
That's a viable option.
Yeah.
I can't believe the stuff we used to get away with in the shuttle bands and trucks and stuff so.
Like.
Me and Dodzy, when we before were like we used to run these Kiwi download days out the back on the downhill track and rudder before you could, before there was any kind of shuttle.
And we would literally just go to the higher place and just hire box trucks and charge people money and drive them up and down the hill all day or rally them up and down the hill all day.
Like we, it was crazy.
I mean, we, we were printing money doing that, to be honest.
But the, the high, I was stoked.
He was just frothing that the that we were there running these shuttle days in his trucks.
My favorite one was was Rotorua where it was a flatbed.
Like big flatbed trucks with no sights and everyone was stacked their bikes on.
You get cardboard boxes to keep bikes separate, but then there'd be nowhere really to stand.
So maybe everyone would stand around the bikes, but then there's nothing behind you.
There's nothing to hold on to.
And so you're holding on to bikes and that are moving.
And like sometimes you can hold on the other side of the truck so that you didn't fall backwards.
Imagine that these days that would get shut down in.
2 seconds there's like, there's quite a long shuttle ride as well.
It was pretty rough.
It wasn't uncommon to be able to at a shuttle or race for shuttle day and there would be like at least one vehicle you're like, oh that one sucks because it's real uncomfortable or it's real hot and you'd always be stoked when you actually got a proper seat.
Like we had one of the dads and Nelson that would drive all the time and his name was Richie and we just actually ended up nicknaming him Richie McRae because he was the fastest shuttle driver out.
I.
Think I was staying at Jazzo's place and we I wasn't racing but I ended up driving for some reason and it was muddy as and we were like taking this 4 wheel drive track to the start of the to the start of the downhill course and there was only four wheel drives and utes that were that were getting up this thing.
We must have only had like 5 or 6 people in each vehicle.
But someone gave me a four wheel drive like I want to say maybe it was a Hilux Ute and man alive I was just it was the time of my life like rally driving this thing with I think I only had maybe 5 bikes on the back of it and I didn't have any passengers or I had bro.
Greg's truck.
Yeah, that was a yellow one.
I remember it wasn't Greg's one, It was someone else's.
But man.
But I can't see what hill it was on you.
Have a Berry Crump?
Yeah, I was thinking with the yellow Hilux.
It was very crumpy.
As well, like it would have been when I was downhill tracks that it wasn't really in a bike park or anything and there was no road to the top.
So people would scratch on a farm road or something.
So there's a track in Wellington, you remember Terra Woody?
Terra Woody was up with with wind farmers in Wellington behind market and out and it was on a farm.
There was no road.
And so you you'd use farm vehicles to get to the top of the downhill track tractors.
Yeah, things we used to do.
I remember going out, I was riding at Gentry with Justin and his old man was driving us and there was a one lane bridge between their old house and Gentry and he comes into this thing just wide open, just full speed in the Hilux and just like holy shit.
And he's like, doesn't get any wider if you go any slower.
Lucky turning up to like a downhill race these days on a prototype factory trick with like electronic suspension and everything on it, A whole bunch of prototype parts and then just Chuck it on the back of a truck with a bunch of couple boxes holding it apart from someone's big hit This one, JK, the US, he's got his M1, his mint M1, the remote reservoir shock on it.
A lot of guys.
Yeah, throw it on, man.
She'll be right and there's and there's some kid.
With a fucking beat up hardtail just looking at JK going you're my hero and it was really talking.
While his while his flat pedal was like rubbing its way through his chainstake.
Oh God.
It was gutting.
I'm so gutted.
Oh bad.
Yeah, time, eh?
Yeah.
Glory days?
Would you say they were the glory days?
I think so.
Bruce Springsteen would say they were glory days.
Well, back to the question of last week, you know, are we in the in the golden days of down?
I mean, I think we've just proven that we the golden days of balance really behind us.
The golden days 20 years ago.
Fuck, we're all I think the golden days for anyone is about 15 years prior to the point where you're at right now.
Yeah, that's that's like recent enough to remember it, but not far ago.
Yeah, obviously I.
Mean Chris, you coming to the Walker?
Have you changed your mind in the last week?
Kind of likely, yeah.
I wanted to get for writer.
So listen to the show of a certain demographic can probably relate.
Just have a second child.
I think I've, I don't think I'm going to be doing any mountain bike for this little while.
And I can see now I had a question for you guys actually when you ride your bike.
And I kind of answered it myself and realized that this is how red dog got into bike pack because the only time for riding a bike is either on your way to and from work or in the middle of the night.
That's it pretty much.
Yeah, Yeah.
So is that very true?
Yeah, This is why Esther and I ride bikes on a trainer.
And you guys are like, why do you ride on a trainer?
Because it's the only time you've got.
From fairness if I spent least time doing this podcast.
That's right.
Don't you're.
Just playing your podcast on your lack of bike riding.
So we'll see you at the Renegade, Renegade Master Chris.
Yeah, about 10 years.
No, fuck that.
I'm going to go downhill racing.
Yeah, let's do it.
Hey, Bill, I'd like to I'd like to go enduro racing and I have a question for you.
Lester is the person on the who's most recently done an enduro.
Race.
Yeah, it's true.
Now it's about the world of enduro racing.
The world of enduro.
Well, you guys might like enduro.
You'd like ride around with your mates all day and then you like race down the hill and you like cruise up to to the next race track and you race down that one.
It's this KB.
Right though.
So when when when do when do you do the the and sleep in a in a bevy bag on the side of the track?
Is it we just?
That's not enduro.
Oh.
Hang on, I'm interested now.
Hang on, are we talking Bevy Enduro or are we talking about bike packing here?
Oh, so you don't bevy up and enduro?
I'm sorry, I've got a problem for you.
This here's why that concept doesn't take off.
Packing.
Because it sounds way too sociable for KB and it doesn't sound hard enough for red dock.
Well, it's I'm.
Keen, I'll come.
It was a good time, I have to say.
Like the conditions were absolutely atrocious.
Awful.
It was, it was a good time.
I mean, we had a pretty good crew horse myself.
Oh, actually, horse ended up.
Yeah, he's.
Scratching his hand.
He's no, he's all, he's all right.
He's all good, he.
Better be he, better be making an appearance of the Walker.
He rodes he reportedly rodes CDKS on the way I've.
Already got He's fine about Walker.
He anyway, the conditions were terrible, but it was actually a real good race.
The course selection, trial selection was pretty good, but it was kind of just bit of a damper because it was so wet.
I just was in total self preservation mode.
Most people were.
And there's a bar in the same way there.
It's not fun.
No, it was.
I mean, it was still a real good event and we still had an awesome time, but it would have been so much like if it was dry, it would have been sick.
Instead, it was just quite good.
You did that real wet one that I did a list.
Yep, one of my was it.
Like Byron and swell Byron was there Rankin.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Time, Yeah.
Ben, was this racing?
Bengal would have been there.
That race has one of my my all time high points in mountain bike racing and it was when I passed you Leicester on one of those stages and I the only other time I've reached like a highlight that is passing cowboy and another.
Just burnt it from his memory.
Yeah, erase.
It didn't happen.
If it was matter, it was surprisingly.
That was awful, I had thought.
So wet.
It was on Eagle versus Shark, which I've ridden 1000 times, Yeah, And remember that I wasn't in control, but I was having a good time.
I.
Remember they're banging a mark at my lowers like halfway up from a rut.
Like that's how deep they were.
And I think I caught Lester, who was going, what the fuck is the point of this?
And I was going, yeah, this is fun.
I don't think this race was as bad as some of those other ones that we've done, but it was definitely pretty bad.
And and and bits it was pretty horrendous.
They put us down a section of the downhill track down Tiny far, which was quite sick.
But there was, it was, there was one section which I don't reckon anyone would have got down feet up.
I just, yeah, I'd put money on the fat and I-1 got down with both feet up.
It was so treacherous and slippery, everybody was bailing off on it.
But no, I was sick.
It was good.
I haven't done an injury for a couple of years because just because I was pretty much over racing the same stuff in Rotorua.
But this was pretty good.
And I think if they're done, they pulled 2 stages in the end, and I think if we'd had those in there, it would have been like a 50K day and maybe nearly a couple of 1000 meters avert.
So that's a pretty solid distance as well, which I'm kind of about making them like a hard day out, not just multi stage downhill race.
So yeah, it was cool, it was good.
Looking forward to the next one start of December.
So that should be interesting.
Boys will come out firing and I hadn't ridden a big bike for like months and I'd only ridden it once, probably in the last maybe almost 12 months so.
So memory it'll get you back there.
I actually I was pretty happy with how I rode, to be fair, but I did.
I kind of tweaked my knee a little bit and then retweaked it the other day.
So I've had a couple of days off the bike.
We'll be right with you, right for the next time, mate, Yeah.
Lights aren't looking too bad.
He's on, he's on.
He's coming back.
Here he comes, he's coming.
Back like.
This guy is Nelson Christchurch, OR.
Wellington.
Wellington through Tapo, Auckland River.
You got to catch sound duty from one of those leagues as well 6.
Hours.
That's all right.
If you leave now, you'll get there.
That's.
Right, Probably quick.
Speaking of wake up.
If you are at the WOK 100, make sure you come and join us on the Friday afternoon, 4:30 PM at the Maxis tent.
Come for a ride, come for a beverage.
We've got some giveaways coming from Squirt Loop.
Squirt have offered up some nice little giveaways which are going to your house Lister.
Just so you know, if a box of stuff turns up, it's not for you.
It's for our listeners.
I think we're going to have some tires from Max's to give away as well.
Don't have any suspension from Fox, unfortunately, that might be behind the budget a little bit.
But yeah, come for a ride.
Come and hang out, meet your hero, Lester Perry or James Rooney, maybe Chris Vanderkalk if he makes it.
You could bike pack there Chris, that might work.
Now I thought just for the Friday, that's.
For the Renegades, if you rode up, if you rode up and then bike packed up and bike packed home, you'd be totally ready for the Renegades muster.
You wouldn't need to wait 10 years.
To do it.
So I wouldn't even know how to do that.
I like just the just I wouldn't get to the start line.
The logistical side of it's just daunting.
That's true.
You have enough problem getting organized to just go riding one time, let alone multiple days.
Oh.
Look, I'm gonna, I'm gonna defend myself here.
I actually did go to ride on the weekend.
I went for a really, really nice XC ride in the mud and it was a lot of fun.
And I thought to myself, you know what, I would love to be doing this with my friend Karen.
But then I remember it doesn't do social manager.
I wasn't all close and.
We can't get our our calendars aligned.
Yeah.
That's pretty sad that you guys live like not far from each other really.
And just life's busy each other.
Life's busy, man.
There's sports, there's four kids.
Each other.
Finally, on the doorstep, the same thing came in.
Yeah, you clearly don't look at your phone on WhatsApp.
That's with multiple.
You've you've had multiple.
Messages to you this evening until I.
I did find some tasty state of play beers.
Thanks Chris.
I thought I heard someone walking quietly out my driveway and I was like, that was weird.
Surely not and.
So it was a bit of a test run to see whether or not I can get into the SPA.
Come over the side fence.
Come over the side fence is.
That what you tell them, like the neighbors.
I haven't, I haven't tested the water in a couple of weeks.
So you're taking your skin into your own hands if you do hop in there at the moment, I don't know.
I don't know what's been going in there, so I'm not.
Moving into your spa and taking my skin in my own hands.
Please don't.
Don't be going in there.
Before the Walker KD you might.
I've heard about.
This she might have known something.
That shammy crew can't even help.
Us tell Katie not to get in this.
She might end up pregnant too.
Much.
That's enough.
Krishna, KB and I have been writing a bit together a few times this year and it's been lovely, It's been good.
Yeah, we've done a couple of times back 3.
Yeah, I've done an XC race with Kieran which with we were both at it.
We're both in the same race.
We went.
For a run one.
Run we did a while ago last summer.
When you first moved.
Yes, yeah.
And then Red Dog, it does.
Red Dogs come to visit once this year to do a bike packing trip.
And the second time he's scheduled to come visit this year, he's come for a running event.
I need to schedule that actually.
Your day?
There's pencil.
Gentlemen, Chris.
Chris and I have had more sushi lunches than bike rides.
Give a spot that sounds a good.
Time though.
We call those meetings, though.
We, we, we, we get some good topics.
Yeah, we really get down deep on some.
Norka.
Norka is really getting off the ground this summer.
Yeah, I.
Reckon.
Lester.
I'll get some more.
Days together this year than you guys think?
You have because you guys rode more days together in one stint than we have.
True.
Yeah, that's very true.
We've been in Duro riding.
Yeah, yeah, we did too.
We went.
Yeah, yeah, we went in duroing.
Yeah, soloing.
All right, guys, I'm gonna wrap this up before we go even more sideways than we have so far.
Great season of World Cup racing.
The podcast isn't over for the year, but.
I just want to say my contract's only got.
No, you guys.
No, no, no.
Your contract keeps going till I say it's.
Done.
That's how this works because.
I've I've I've been in the hot seat.
I want to know who's next in the hot seat and I want the auction to re record babe.
So, but that's beside the point.
No, it's can we put KB in the hot seat please?
If you want to.
We need a KB in the hot seat.
We can do that.
We need to, we need to get to Nelson or somewhere where we do it and.
All sit in the same place, yeah.
Yeah, I agree with.
That we can do it at the Walker so.
I'm not going to come.
There's no other reason to come to Tiamoto.
I wouldn't bother with that.
Well, the gravel right inside.
Isn't it Gravel's good.
Actually, Palmi, that's where I think we should do our first live show.
The home of Downhill, Yeah.
We can do it in the hot seat with Jaunty Palmi's own.
That's it.
We'll.
Go to the stock car there.
You go.
Yep, you'd be eating high Flyers.
RIP.
I think it's gone are.
We doing OK?
Yeah, Cool.
Good, good season, guys.
Are we doing?
Are we doing what?
Are we gonna do AXC cast on Friday night?
Yeah, we'll do an XC cast later this week and we'll pop that out pre pre Walker.
I think we'll have a special guest for that one too, so I better line that up, make sure they're available.
Have you finally got that?
Take it up with Sammy.
No, no, they haven't just won a world title unfortunately, but she's busy that we'll we'll get someone on that is useful for us to talk, talk shit about the Walker.
So for anyone coming to the Walker, you can listen to that and then we can debrief about it on Friday afternoon when we go bike riding together.
How are you placed for a lunch ride on Wednesday?
Just checking in.
I would have to consult my calendar and come back to you on that one.
Probably good, but yeah.
I was going to say what really.
You're going to have to consult your calendar.
Yeah, yeah, the calendar.
The.
Calendar listening as well.
He's consulting his training calendar to make sure that, you know, is it a like recovery day zone?
We're into a type of we're into a type of phase now.
So yeah, it might be directional.
I bets that you've got to do in there.
You guys are like this the last.
I think the last time I went for a ride with KB, I was on the trail bike and he rolled by.
I was XC bike.
He'd already been out and done two or three laps and he just kind of came and picked me up for the last lap.
I was like, this is embarrassing.
It was a social ride.
I went riding with two other people that day.
So I do do social rides and different seasons sometimes.
Yeah.
OK.
No, it wasn't.
No, because we had Adam with us that day.
Kevin went riding with his other podcast hosts.
All right.
All right, boys.
Thanks again.
Fox suspension, Max's ties, Squirt lubes, Legends keeping us rolling.
I was going to say keeping us alive.
That's pretty bit traumatic.
Give me the podcast going though.
Thanks a bunch to them.
Thanks to you guys.
That is Lester, Chris and Red dog.
And also thanks to you guys.
That is the listeners.
We appreciate you guys.
And it's it's been pretty cool to see how much it's actually grown this year.
We've reached we've reached a new audience, I think, boys, which is exciting to see.
So long might last.
And those poor people.
Yeah, we'll see you next week.
