Episode Transcript
Nice, very nice front back leaders garment quite happy so all in it looks looks.
Pretty good in that bad boy.
Excellent.
I think the word you're looking for is look at that thing.
Look good done good if you're.
Ready for this?
Welcome back to the ITV podcast, the original and still the best New Zealand mountain bike podcast.
Brought to you by Max's Tires, Fox Suspension and our new friends at Squirt Lube.
All legends of the industry joining me here today for a very unashamedly XC heavy podcast.
We thought we'd, you know, it's Walker week, so we're going to talk about the Walker, the usuals, Lester Perry, James Rooney.
Welcome, bad boys.
Bye, great to be here.
It's great to have you guys back.
The enthusiasm is high.
Jenny's already trying to claim time and 1/2 for this, so this is off to a flying start.
Look, my contract stipulates, you know, time and 1/2 here.
We were originally suitable for Friday.
There was some, there was some issues on site.
There were some side issues.
The boys had water shoes and KB couldn't show up.
Yeah, so we had to, we had to reschedule for a Monday, but that's all right.
Yeah, it fits.
We're in.
We're in the week now.
We're in the taper.
So hopefully you boys are, you know, laying off or just training harder into the week.
I don't know.
How's the taper work?
You'd start to taper up or down.
It was very too Max has been bandied about today.
I don't even know what that means so.
Yeah.
I don't know, I read it on the Internet, I just regurgitate.
Stuff I read on the Internet.
OK, sweet.
I checked it on the podcast.
Check GPT training.
Yeah, yeah.
Pretty much no one weeks ago yeah a little few little tonight was actually interesting someone two and three minute efforts and some things you can.
What you got to listen twice?
You got a bit of this little.
Got to keep a little bit of load in the legs.
It wasn't too much, you know.
My, my legs kind of take that.
No chance.
I've been off the pension on them three weeks ago.
Listen to it.
Yeah.
Right.
He's probably wearing lycra on the bottom half and at the moment he's just throwing his.
He's just throwing his vest on top to throw us off.
I reckon he's just keeping warm.
He's actually in between intervals, he comes on doing his wrist.
I've got to keep the body, Kortev has to say out.
Lester, you know that I'll be back into the sealed off room.
That I've got.
That's right, last last week there's heat adaption.
Yeah, there's there's no difference between my heat adaption room and what you could consider like a murderous kill room.
Like it's just sealed off plastic, the heater on it.
Is it?
Look, do you have your altitude machine up to it as well?
It's a bad YEAH as well.
Yep.
Yep.
Absolutely.
Yep.
3000 meters.
I'm basically Everest when I'm climbing.
Are you training yet?
Have you entered the Walker as Tenzing?
Yeah.
He's going to kill my bike, yeah.
That's right, I'll need a shiver to get rid of some of those hills.
I tell you what.
You'll need one for Pondi.
That's always the point where you need a Sherpa.
Getting up there, climb.
Yeah, I wouldn't mind a Sherpa, actually.
Sherpa would be good, but yeah it might be.
It might be easier to just creep your way up on your bike and walk though.
Do you know what we should have employed is like?
We've been doing a lot of right.
Me and Oscar been doing a lot of riding and I'm towing them a lot with the E bike.
The kids ride shotgun tower rope.
We should have employed a few people to just slip on in on Pondi and tell us, tell us up there.
We don't know an E bike guy who's going to be feeding us and I wouldn't slip him the tie rope.
You'll be fine off the head of me KB that he could toe me up.
If.
Yeah, we might have to.
One of us might have to miss out.
Do shuttles up the hill for us.
Wouldn't be suspicious at all.
Not at all, but we'd get some potential Koems maybe so that.
'D be right?
Before.
We before we go too far on the Walker Red Dog's favorite, the lifetime Grand Prix Cam Jones.
He won the black.
Thing It was seriously impressive to go ahead and just win that whole series.
That was amazing.
There's a wild card.
There's a wild card, Yeah.
I mean, I don't know anything about this series.
I don't know anything about this series.
Well, you're invited.
They invite the athletes to it.
Basically the top.
I see.
I don't know how many people.
Can't remember how many people in it.
I'm pretty sure it's.
2020 athletes and then if you miss out on getting in, you can still enter those races and the first two rounds counted for a wild card.
The top three wild card riders at the end of C at the end of unbound then took a wild card.
So there was Cam, Matt Wilson, Andrew Lesperantz, I think his name is, were the three that got the wild cards.
One, yeah, took Carey boys.
Cam was 12th at SIOTA, 12th overall.
And then obviously one I'm down South.
And then also Little Sugar, he dominated.
So yeah, $3 of a season.
I think Kagan Swinson's won the last three seasons or something, so let's see for the fingers.
Right.
And more so.
Is he?
Was he?
4th, 4th 4th.
In the end, he was.
Leading.
The last round.
So interestingly that last race they were supposed to be 100 miles, but bad weather came through in the day before and they ended up shortening it.
Apparently they made the final call like half an hour before the start in the morning.
Oh wow.
Yeah, so they then halved the race.
So it went from 100 miles, which would probably suit Keegan pretty well, but also Cam and.
Some of the other guys.
Then it was 50 miles and which arguably is more towards Cam strengths.
Maybe because I bet he's got a bit of raw power than Keegan does.
Say so, but.
Yeah, I mean, Matt Wilson was hovering top 2 for quite a while.
Him and Matt Beers and another dude were away for most of for a lot of the race.
And then Matt flattered.
Yeah, they, they dropped the, I can't remember who it was in 3rd, but they dropped him off.
He he fell off.
Where'd?
They drop him.
Scott Yeah.
That's cool they left him there now they and then they were KBS.
I hope they jump off to fix KB's Internet.
Yeah, that'd be.
Fun.
So anyway, yeah, that was a killer ride.
Cam rolled in, took the bunch, Sprint for 3rd.
So yeah, I mean, there's not much you can say about it.
He's definitely, I've been having some backwards and forwards with him.
I'm working on a article for the Cycling Journal on him and.
It's just a.
Pretty down to earth Kiwi do today, pretty sweet and I think everyone in the peloton really respects him so and and interestingly enough, last year he was at some of the rounds and turned a lot of heads and I think people knew he was a danger man then and anyone who raised him last year was saying that he should have been in the Grand Prix this year, but obviously lifetime didn't.
I don't know, maybe he didn't have enough Instagram followers or something like that.
To.
Put him through on the first round, but he certainly is proved his worth.
That's for.
Sure are.
They getting good deals doing that.
Serious, Lester.
So the K.
But he's got a bit of it's if he was actually connected in this meeting.
Yeah, apparently Pigeon.
Over the carrier pigeon.
Yeah.
Apparently.
Keegan gets 70 grand.
For the.
Logo on his helmet.
He.
Dropped monster to take office.
I think it's an insurance company or somewhere somehow related to her insurance.
KB knows the story.
Oh, he's bad.
OK.
But yeah, he was getting 70 grand for that, but I think that's probably an outlier.
He.
Sorry, I would say Ken, when I spoke to Ken a week ago, two weeks ago, 2 days ago, he had a couple of sort of offers on the table, both riding Scott bike still.
So he'll be, I imagine he'll be continuing with Scott and there was just some decisions to be made about the structure of what a setup would look like.
Yeah, there was some possibilities with Matt Wilson as well, might have something lined up, but that was a little less confirmed by the sound of it.
So it'd be interesting to see.
And no doubt now that the season's wrapped up, I sort of had a tongue in cheek message with Cam saying I hope you didn't sign those contracts yet, wait till that final was done.
We can sign now, but I don't know if that would make any difference.
But yeah, it's interesting.
It'll be super cool to see how his next few years plays out.
Obviously the engines there.
So in his numbers, arguably pro to a level on the road and he sort of expressed some interest in some stuff that I've listened to of saying, you know, or kind of open to anything.
Still wants to do some XEO potentially.
Would there be lucrative?
I mean, the road would be, but do you think Xeo would be?
You had a pretty high level, I would have thought.
I would have thought.
Depends what.
Depends what your depends what your team structure is though.
Like, if your team's like sweet, just go do it xe whatever, I mean.
Yeah, it's all good.
Yeah.
It would probably be a pretty.
I imagine it would be a.
Big shift in.
Training for him, but he's obviously done it before so.
Yeah, yeah.
Time will tell.
God have.
Counted himself out like a little bit of a almost niche with this stuff.
Like they've got the sort of got, you know, a definite presence in Lifetime.
And then I've got that Robin Gimpala, as they say, it's now the guy who won Tour of Ivan stuff like they're doing some kind of cool stuff.
Thinking about Scott, Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
No, they are.
They've got a pretty.
Broad range.
Of writers, that's for sure.
Yeah.
It's.
Pretty cool.
Have you got me?
Am I back?
We've got.
It at the.
Moment it's.
Excellent.
Bit of an echo, Kerry, is it from you?
I don't know, I can't turn my echo off now.
OK.
It's really going well tonight.
I actually just tick.
Echo's gone.
All right.
Fantastic.
That's good.
I don't want to run it.
Yeah.
Cam Jones, what a legend.
Great stuff.
We'll wrap wrap that since I missed that whole segment, but I assume we're just talked about how how legendary that ride was to take that title.
It's been a good year for a lot of the Kiwis.
It's some solid results through like just about every discipline.
Rd.
racing XC.
Am I just talking to myself?
Yeah, I think there's there's been all sorts.
Yeah.
You are cutting in and out to be honest, but you're on the road front.
The Kiwis have done pretty well.
I know that there's been some notable finishes earlier in the season but more recently Aaron Gay took a couple of wins I think, or at least one win and re signed with the Astana XDS, something they're called now team on a 2 year contract I think.
So he's like salutified his spot in the world Tour which.
Is pretty cool.
And yeah, Cam met, they've been slain in the gravel space and on the mountain as well.
But also Caleb Boticher has done some impressive finishes through the Season 2.
He's just been, they've been solid finishes.
But I guess Cam and Matt have taken the taking the limelight a little bit because they've been exceptional.
Not.
Design on his own again, yes.
True, true.
I was.
Terrible.
How old would he be dude?
I feel like he's maybe.
2324, Yeah.
Would that be right?
I was gonna say.
Early to mid 20s.
Yeah.
Yeah, somewhere.
Around this I know he.
Said it's on finish too.
Anyway, enough about everybody else.
Yeah.
So I was missing KB, I was missing Matt Wilson.
And Matt's actually coming straight back from the US and getting back on like Thursday and coming to the Walker, which is pretty impressive.
Turn around that quick and show up.
Yeah, straight into the Walker.
That's that's madness.
Yeah.
Forms.
Forms.
All right.
I think it's better than what I was last year.
So that's a good sign because last year was just a Shimazo didn't go well at all, did it?
So now I've been riding pretty consistently, which I think has been the key, you know, just getting, getting days in, not days at a time on the bike, but you know, and they are here and now there each day.
So I think that was the important part.
I think that's one thing which I've has surprised me this year.
Like I think arguably I'm fitter numbers would say I'm fitter than last year, then probably further than the year before.
But just consistency, yeah, it definitely makes a difference.
And yeah, like in like traditionally I've had sort of two days a week off and probably have managed more bigger rides, but this year I've done way more short stuff, you know, an hour to two hours and just one day off generally a week and a majority of that of winter was on the trainer.
So you're a consistency.
You're a hitter compared to me in Red Dog when?
Yeah.
You've.
See, I think the problem when you get to my age is you work so much harder to just stay at the same level.
Yeah.
So I'm not.
Expecting big things?
What's all?
Relative, yeah, I don't know it'll be it'll be interesting because I mean I don't know how like I haven't really done as many trying to do big efforts and see like to see where my FTP and that sort of stuff is like last year I got real wrapped up in that and I was like right, where's my FTP?
I haven't done that this year, so my number's lower than it was last year, but I think I feel better in terms of actually being able to go out and ride for like 3 hours.
So yeah.
I think arguably it's not about necessarily about the FTP either, no.
I mean, I kind of nerd out a bunch about a lot of the stuff and listen to a lot of podcasts and the FTP is something, but there's so much more to it.
You could have a way low FTP, but if you can ride it at a higher percentage of whatever it is, ride harder for longer then you're going to come out better off.
You could have a savage FTP for an hour, but when you're doing a six hour race you'd better to have the durability.
Well, that was.
My, my health theory on just riding more consistently, just getting the hours up, like I was actually looking at my hours over like the last three months.
What I look at last four months and I was like way up on last year, which I didn't really think I was.
But when I actually accumulated like added them all together, I was like, man, they actually put in a lot more hours over the last few months leading up to it than I did last year.
So that was interesting to see.
Yeah, I did this.
I.
Did.
The same and probably it's probably a month ago now, there was a 13 hour week, 14 hour week, something like that, which I've never very really done that kind of volume of a week before.
But it would that was just like an hour here, hour and a half, whatever.
And then probably like a three hour ride on on the Saturday or something like that.
But it all kind of adds up.
Yeah, I'd probably be sure.
I'd probably been averaging like 9 to 10 hours a week, something around there.
That's pretty solid for an average.
Yeah, I think my average is sort of 7 to 8.
But it's hard to find your London that it's not average is.
About 5I.
Reckon and the.
Day.
Just do that.
In one go away.
Just do it for a 5 hour run, no?
I reckon I've been pretty lighter this year.
Definitely.
Been lighter this year, it's just been harder head more on.
Yeah, it swings at roundabouts sometimes you got more time than others.
You.
Just make.
Yeah, yeah.
That's right, yeah.
See that like I did that really good volume probably a month ago and then it's just dropped way off since then.
School holidays, this that and the other thing, yeah, I mean, I had an injury for had to have two days off the bike or.
2 days.
You kind of like it.
Doesn't seem like much.
It was in a key time though.
But what I would say is, I mean, unfortunately in our category, it's really just a competition for whoever can, whoever's got the most time and whoever can give up the most.
Thanks.
The problem that you.
Have you think like I before, you know, like mass to 40s, like just just a bunch of dudes in their 40s.
But the problem is there's these dudes in their 40s who have done nothing but ride for like the last 25 years and they're just absolute work horses.
Yeah.
That's.
True.
I don't think like as far as people who are trying to be competitive, by now you've kind of figured yourself out.
You've kind of got a pretty good idea of what you're doing and it's real.
Like certainly though, you know that top 3040% who are serious about it.
Legitimately serious.
Yeah, You know, you're not just, like turning up and giving a Hoon.
Last year, you and me, Lester, were riding up Upper Moana with Mike Mitts.
And then he's just like, OK, I'm, I'm out of here now.
And he just rode away from us like.
Talking.
To him, afterwards, it's like how much you've been riding, you've been doing lots of training.
No, I wasn't even planning on racing this thing.
He entered this week.
You're like, no.
Way like.
Come on.
The drawing on.
On 30 years of.
Experience.
I.
Reckon there's a there's you could map it.
Let's disregard people our age without kids, but you could map it on age of people's kids.
So like Lester's probably getting, he's still in the thick of it as kids aren't old enough yet.
But as soon as people's kids get old enough to be like somewhat self-sufficient, that's when the training can ramp up again.
And so you get that in their late 40s.
Yeah, yeah.
But then you're so cooked, you're so old, but just.
A man like Masters Masters 2, Masters 2 here in Wellington are weapons.
Absolute weapons.
Yeah, and.
That's that's what I'm in at the moment.
Lester.
It's yeah, it's an, it's a funny thing because you, you're like, yeah, you know, you're going good or whatever.
And you?
Do.
Do a good race or whatever.
And for me, my, my whole thing is just like, try and ride well.
Just don't stuff anything up and just be happy, you know, whatever the result is, it is what it is.
You've done all you can, as long as it's not a.
As long as it's not a DNF like I did last year, I wasn't happy with it as.
Long as it's not a DNF or you have to stop for a leak like I did, or you can blow up like I also did you know, and that was ill preparation racing too hard, all those things.
Can you you know that whole?
Time without doing Waze, Lester.
Normally I did it.
In 2024 I did.
I didn't.
Didn't stop for a wee the whole time.
There was issues afterwards, weren't there?
No, there was the.
Gels here, wasn't it?
Oh no, that was last year.
No gels here was 2023.
Yeah, 23, yeah, 23.
I got through the whole thing.
24 was last year, yeah.
You had a lot of gels in 23.
It was a.
Lot of gels.
It's pretty gummed up from there.
It's good though.
It worked.
That was all I ate the whole day.
No, it was.
Bold.
It was bold.
I.
Just realized before Red Dog that we've only got one more year of racing Masters one.
Have you fathered that?
I know and that's what I'm worried about because I reckon Masters 2 is harder.
It's.
Going to be worse.
I got a better.
List.
Yeah.
Bring it on.
Finally, but I'm still I'm still a lot older than you guys, so.
Yes, I'm.
Saying like, I'll just be training hard to not being faster, just to not getting slower.
Yeah, I red dog.
I tried those Mexus Espenice teas today.
Boy, that fast.
That fast.
That's a bit scary that way, I.
Was actually amazed at how much traction they had for a tire that looks like it has very little to it.
I was like, yeah, you.
Got my pressure right, I got that.
I was looking at the front tire.
When I was.
Climbing and I'm like, man, there's just nothing on this front tire.
Like it looks like a gravel tire, but it was actually pretty good.
The guide knobs were saying no, there's an estimate so it's still cool.
But.
They're actually reversed.
They point the other way.
Interesting.
She wouldn't.
Have them all backwards.
No, that's definitely not the right way.
I don't.
Think right that's.
Interesting.
So I don't know I.
What's the point?
Last night I did like on hard pack, I breaked into this corner and I could hear it being like like a Velcro sort of noise, like I was skidding on tarmac.
The.
Weather is on the improved, so I'm going to like I'm going to bring mine over.
I think I'd just run it on the back, but.
Yeah.
There's really.
You get away with it on the back.
Yeah, yeah, unless.
It's unless it's wet on the climbs, that's the only thing you don't want.
Is it just spinning up and not making it up climbs?
Yeah.
And so frontal was pretty chopped up after we did the the enduro there the other week.
Frontal, I was frontal on Thursday and it was it was actually kind of like that nice Rotorua hero dirt.
But with this weather that's coming on Thursday slash Friday, it might be a different story.
Frontal was kind of fucked last.
Year Anyway.
I mean, there was sanctions.
You had to walk up regardless.
Yeah.
There's also so direct Rd.
is in real good nick, but I also found when I was out of the saddle up there on Thursday trying to I mean, not Thursday because that's a work day on the weekend when I was there I.
Don't think.
It was the right don't.
Tell the boss.
I did find when I was out of the saddle I did get a bit of slip and that was with a normal Aspen.
So I'm.
Not out of the saddle though.
I.
Don't think.
I'm not normally either.
I don't think it would make any difference.
No, and I think Kung Fu.
The.
The sections where it's sketchy are so small in there that it's just such a small percentage of the race compared to all the climbing where you could gain.
I feel like Frontal would be the only real risky climb for it.
Everywhere else is kind of like after Moana's fine, that's Pondi would be should be all right, it's all.
Right.
Can you?
Hear it, Tower.
Yeah, that's kind of there.
Could be pretty niggly on it if it's a bit.
If it's dry.
Though it's fine.
If it's dry, it'll be sweet.
If it's sweet because there's no off camera, you don't Nah.
Nah, there's no.
Technical off camera stuff and that's the only wow.
I mean, would it even matter?
I don't know.
You've this is like minutes out of a six hour race, 6 plus hour race.
And you're not climbing, you know, there's a couple of little pinchy bits.
I haven't ridden to your tower probably since last Walker actually, to be fair.
But.
That.
Wasn't in the last peddling.
Pieces no it.
Wasn't either, was it?
On before I think.
Yeah, there are such small sections of peddling up that attraction peddling won't be a problem.
If you get the efficiency on the on the roads and that sort of thing, it'll be where it'll make a big difference.
What?
Would be.
To.
Know really what the difference is?
Yeah, the only, the only two options I'll use is either an Aspen or an Aspen S 2 Aspen.
Yeah, yeah.
There's no point going any any chunk here on the front.
Eh, Nah.
Nah, I ran the Barzo from the Barzo Victoria Barzo I.
Ran unfamiliar.
With that.
No, not from the last.
Year and the year before.
No sounds Austrian to me.
That's.
A good that's a really good tire and for red roar and the damp but.
Also.
As I was there, so isn't.
Barzo.
Isn't barzo like what you clean the pots with?
Is that Barzo?
There's.
Brasso.
Brasso, right.
Yeah, OK.
We should have done a we should do yeah, We talked about doing the Mylar, like drawing straws.
Someone does the Mylar.
We could just do it like someone, someone has to do.
Now we'll just give it to the 100.
But someone has to do it on 2.5.
On 2.5 ESSA guys downhill facing.
Oh yeah, yeah.
The traction would.
Be incredible, but there'd be a long day out on the roads that would be.
Horrible, wouldn't It would be horrible.
Even things like Billy T would be horrible on them.
I.
Reckon by the injured be all right with life because like that take all the like vibration out.
See, it'd be pretty comfortable.
You'd just be real slow.
You've also got to run them at 20.
You've got to run them at 23 and 25 PSI downhill pressures, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, No, I think that's going to be the one.
I can't see any reason why, why you'd have any problems there.
Nah unless it's legitimately wet but well, my.
Forecast watch all the rain that was showing up for Sunday yesterday, today was moved to Monday.
So if that just keeps keeps pushing on out, that's fine with me.
Yeah, that's pretty promising the.
Met few maps look pretty good now I'm happy with that.
So I'm looking good.
I think it's going to be ideal because it doesn't look like it's going to be very warm, which suits me to a tee.
You know, I've missed my heat.
You've missed that.
I've been doing so much heat adaptation this year, damn it.
Where are we?
Is it?
Adaption or adaptation?
I didn't get it.
I didn't go to school for long enough.
Red Dog you on the nitrate loading this week?
No, Raven's down my route unfortunately, so I couldn't get my nitrates.
Yeah, yeah.
No good.
I.
Couldn't sorry so I'm just I'm on the weed and feed.
Oh, it's on the weed and feed.
Yeah, it's probably.
Probably hot nitrates in it, isn't it?
I was.
On the weed and feed last year didn't really work for me.
Science is a bit fuzzy there.
Caffeine.
I think I was going to experiment with some pretty grunty caffeine for this, but I haven't so.
Still, for an espresso part way around, roll the.
Dice yeah, thinking, I'm thinking some of that Vita sport go with the sort of the go.
Yeah, caffeine.
Caffeine in it.
Yeah.
What about pickle juice?
I'm actually genuinely thinking about taking a bottle of pickle juice this year.
I won't be taking no.
It's full of creams.
Now.
Kerry, if I remember to put it up.
Kerry reminds me.
This is where our medical correspondent Scotty will provide me with some feedback after he listened to this podcast.
But I did talk to him about pickle juice and he has been doing some reading.
You don't actually need to drink it.
No, just need to exist, things to go.
On your mouth, yeah.
Because all it's doing is messing with your brain signals to your muscles, yeah.
Did did Doctor Scotty get in touch with you?
No, I've also.
I've also been able to do some reading myself.
I I have I have learned recently how to read.
So I did read up a bit about it.
That's.
Really well done mate, Great to hear.
Yeah.
The problem, the problem I have is that generally like if I go riding like a couple of weeks weeks ago I did a 3 1/2 hour ride and I didn't get a hint of cramps.
So I I generally never cramp when I'm just out riding, but when I do the Walker and here it comes.
All right, so Gary, why would you?
We were just joking about how you're going to take a jar of pickle juice around, right?
Did say I went for a ride with horse on the weekend.
Who?
He clocked up 90 KS.
So he's done more training than all of us.
Wow.
That's good effort.
Did see it he had a jar with a smoothie in it in his back pocket.
A glass A.
Glass.
Jar A.
Glass.
Jar.
And he lifted.
Out of it about the 20K mark.
That.
Is concerning you.
Imagine if you did a did a nicely front flip onto that jar and just lacerated your liver.
Oh dude.
We'd.
Already.
Done.
And he he whips it out.
Yeah, that's gnarly.
You want to get those guys at Rampage running pickle juice thing in their back pocket?
She uses don't even want to talk about that event now.
So there's a there's actually like a pickle juice, like cramp stop juice you get It's like a little like bottle of it.
So that's what I was thinking about taking.
Give it another glass.
The glass.
But there's.
Those there's a little shot it might be called like an X shot or something or other.
Or cramp.
Fix can't remember it might be cramp fix I think and a little gel.
I haven't had one, but Josh had one and he said that that absolutely terrible like.
Just.
It's like concentrated pickle juice.
It's disgusting.
So have.
You run the pills, Kerry?
Like the electrolyte pills?
They're pretty, yeah.
They didn't didn't do enough for me.
Didn't.
Really not.
Was that last?
But it's not.
It's not electrolytes that you need though.
No, it's not really an electrolyte problem.
It's.
Because you'll be pushing so much harder than normal for longer and your brain can't keep up with the overload of keeping on pushing hard, Yeah.
OK.
Neuromuscular something or other I think is what that's putting it down to you.
Yeah.
But Scotty will tell.
Me later.
It's yeah, I'll be interested to hear what Scotty reckons.
I mean that's that's generally why everyone cramps at the Walker, because everyone rides harder for longer than they have.
That.
Does make.
Sense does make sense.
So with that in mind, are we going to roll off the start line easily or?
Are we going to?
No.
The three of.
Us get near the front, we can just block.
Well, that's what I said to you today, Lester.
This would have been the ultimate mood for us to have Chris there for because Red Dog, you know this well, like you're out for a ride with Chris and he just does not know how to limit himself.
When you just leave from the driveway, you're doing 500 watts down, down the road, just trying to keep up with him.
So we could have seen him as the sacrificial lamb just to set the pace for a few minutes until he just became a real roadblock.
And that would have just really eased up the traffic that would have been.
Great.
Idea.
I mean, I could do that.
Rampant, rampant.
It's extremely rapid.
They need a whole shot money hurricane.
That'd be sweet.
Could you?
Imagine that people trying to turn into is it tahi or Creek or whatever.
The first one you go into just elbows and rotten.
Yeah, that.
Was the whole thing when you were talking about maybe going off, you know, just cruising into the start And yes, if you get stuck in a stuck in a traffic jam in those early, early 10 or 15 minutes could cost you.
Yeah.
Yeah, I.
Don't know.
I don't know.
It could cost you.
There was.
The dude that I saw lying in his back in the Creek last year like 5 minutes into the race.
Oh, that's.
Right.
Yeah, Yeah, that was bad.
I think.
If you did.
That it would cost you for sure.
He's.
Just.
Line there with his bike on top of him as everyone's just like, you're right, you're right, you're right, you're right, going past him.
Poor dude, Yeah.
No, that's not cool.
No.
It's a big odd day.
It's a big day, that's for sure.
It is.
It is indeed, but Thursday afternoon, hopefully the weather plays ball.
We'll go out for a ride meeting at the MEXUS Tuesday, no Friday.
We'll probably.
Do it Friday afternoon, We should do it Friday afternoon because I won't actually be there Thursday and I don't think you guys will be either.
So we'll do it Friday.
We'll change that.
Sounds pretty good.
Yeah, OK, we'll pencil that on.
Friday 4:30 at the Mexus 10.
Mexus eventually thrown in some swag bags for the 1st 10 people to arrive as well.
So nice.
And the coffee from Jerry himself.
Andy Coffee, you 2 are not part of that, so you 2 don't get to claim that prize if you get there early.
Sorry guys, it's.
Disappointing.
Do you know what there's code for?
Lester KBS taken all our swag bags.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Just.
Like last time, yeah.
We also got some giveaways from Squirt.
Got some chain lubes, some bike washers, and some some shammy butter.
Shammy butter?
So who else was in the box?
Cream.
Yeah, shammy cream.
So yeah, a few.
Bits to get by.
We've got some.
Beers from State of Play good.
Day How are you?
Beauty sounds great.
Did you use the squirt sealant carry with the little?
Any.
Things, yeah.
I did.
I did it seems seems good.
I quite like those put the little the little bead blockers in there.
So hopefully they'll do their job.
I I have.
A little story about that.
Put the tires on the other day last week, put the put the stuff in a big syringe to put into my tire and I was like, oh sweet, Yeah, those little beads, they're small enough.
I'll just put them in the plunger and pushed them through the valve.
They did not.
Go through the valve they.
Didn't even get.
Out the end of the hose.
They had just clogged.
It and.
Stopped them from.
Coming out oh they.
Do their job good they do.
Their job, yeah.
And that's got to be that would be a 5 mil hole probably.
So I was like, they did their job fine and dandy, that's for sure.
That's amazing.
So.
Yeah, after that I popped the bead and poured it in like it said on the instructions.
Yeah.
I'm like, what are you doing?
Putting it through the valve I never put it through.
The.
Neither do I I never ever.
But I was like, I'd been having problems with getting my tires to seat properly, and I thought, well, I seated now let's just not rock the boat by unseating them, yeah?
So.
Anyway, we got there in the end.
Oh, that's much a.
Mistake.
That's a great product testament there, you know, just real.
Real world.
That couldn't get through the syringe.
I think it I think it claims that it can seal A6 mil hole and yeah, I'm pretty sure that.
That's.
His case, so it's pretty.
It seems pretty legit.
What?
Do you want to test that out though?
Nah.
What are you carrying with you on the bike?
You're not.
You're taking a tube.
You're going to risk that much weight on your bike.
No.
Tube.
Nah.
What?
Plugs, not a tube.
The day's over.
Plugs plugs in the CO2.
I needed a tube on the weekend, but I got went to get the tube.
My tube just lives on the bike has done for like 2 years.
We had to put it in.
It's like go on that or something's wrong with that.
I didn't even get close to going up I.
Took it off for an hour.
Oh.
No.
I was gutted, oh man.
That sucks.
Why?
My plugs didn't work, no.
Plugs.
No, I had two plugs but the hole at the bead was too big.
Oh, beat one's the worst, yeah.
Yeah.
That's my big.
Question.
At the moment is how many plugs to carry.
I.
Think I've, I mean I've got these plugs, but well, I actually have the like Aliexpress dyna plug poker.
With one.
At the end of that, and then I've got actually this time around I'm running.
I'm going to take the little packy of five.
Plugs.
That go into that.
Yeah.
Right, but it's a bit.
Of a faff.
I do have another more traditional plugger that I might maybe put somewhere, I don't know.
I'm running CO2, I got 2 cut, 2 Co, twos the plugger and then under my saddle I've actually got a little baggy with a chain link, a valve.
A.
Valve just I only because it was in there then I did.
I took it out the other day and I was like, actually, this thing takes up no space.
I'm just going to leave.
That that's not why anything case.
There's a bolt in there.
Wait, it's just.
Just just a bolt.
A bolt would.
Work as a cleat bolt or it's a.
Nine year it's off a as a.
Drink cage bolt.
Do.
You know what is it like 2 KA?
Cleat bolt which?
No.
A a rotor bolt at a pinch rotor bolt.
Yeah, that's.
True, yeah, but.
But I've got seat to lock rotors on my bike so that's not much use that's not gonna.
Help.
What else?
If I run my little bag and a multi tool with a chain breaker on, that's me.
No, I've got quite a bit.
I think I've got a tight lever too.
Yeah.
You've got quite a bit tight lever.
But it just sits in a little bag under the seat so so long as the little bag doesn't fall off, which it has done before.
I bought a tire plug last year like a double ended thing and I this is going to sound just just getting real graphic already in my head as I talk about it with the description of it and online it looked quite small.
It looked like it was a dyna plug size 1.
But then when it showed up it was about 70 mil long and like quite like proof 15 mil across.
It was huge and I was like son of a bitch this is not what I was, not what I was after.
This is way too big to go on the bike.
It.
Wasn't in Valley Express, that was from New Zealand.
It was the local 1.
I got the, I got a little one off Aliexpress and it's kind of like so long and it's about probably 20 mill in diameter or maybe, yeah, probably 20 mill in diameter.
And I saw it online and I was like, that thing's meant it's like a small pills kind of shape and the bot, the base comes off it and then it's got the stabber on it.
Yeah, but it turned out same thing.
It's like twice the size of what I thought it was.
And it's just this awkward little chodi size thing.
I was like, I don't know even where you put it.
It's just this awkward size, but umm, there's.
Some great sound bites to pull from there.
That's a strange little black.
Where are you?
Where are you putting that?
Awkward little Jody thing.
It's I mean it, it does look like.
Some sort of, I don't know, I'm not even going to go there.
But the good thing is it's full of plugs.
Oh, the bacon strip style.
And it also came with these big black ones.
Which if you've got Chody, but it comes with big black ones, yeah.
And so I think you'd be able to stab them in.
They can't.
Yeah.
And the right puncture, I think they'd come and come and clutch.
But yeah, hopefully we won't need to find that out because I'm not going to carry that one with me.
Nah, there's not many rocks, Not many rocks in Rotorua.
You should be all right, no?
No.
You've got to be unlucky, I reckon.
The flat, yeah, but famous.
Last night.
Yeah.
We're missing Chris though.
I mean, Chris brings the most entertainment usually to the Walker in the last couple of years, so it's sad to not have him here this year.
I'm sure we'll find some stories.
Yeah, what about nutrition?
What's the nutrition plan?
Red Dog cold pizza Well.
I was, I was on like the the high carb mix last year and I'll I think I've talked to Kerry about this.
I just don't feel like it works that well for me.
So I'm on a lower carb in the bottles, probably like a Vital Sport or whatever, and just more gels, smashing gels.
Yeah, I'm.
I'm leaning that way as well.
I'm going to go high carb in one bottle and then buy the sport.
I think I'm actually almost going to go water in a bottle this year.
Water in a bottle, it's not a bad idea, yeah.
I'm just haven't quite decided, but I'm going to decide depending on what the weather's doing.
I've got a theory that front load your fueling while your guts are still working properly loaded and when it's cold.
So I might run high carb really early on and then ease it off a little bit later in the day I think.
I'm just going to run theory.
I bought some of those pure rice fuels.
They got flavors there, so it's quite nice.
I tried the tried the Raspberry out yesterday.
I think it's Raspberry.
Oh yes, it's good.
Nice to have a little bit of flavour to it so.
Better better than just the plain flavour that was quite hard to drink I found.
Yeah, it's bitter.
Sorry.
I'm going to run one of those on the on the bike at each feed station.
And.
Then yeah, probably invite a sport or something as a second bottle.
I I had a bottle that just.
Had coke in it last year, that was quite nice.
That was in my drop bag.
Yeah, sorry, I'm getting the.
Drop bags shout out to our number one feeder, Bangzi.
Yeah.
Jared Bang.
What a legend.
He's come through with offered up his services for the boys, so thanks for being.
Yep.
He's doing God's work.
He's really doing God's work out there for us, No?
He always does.
He always does.
We're.
Going to load him up with so much shit.
Yeah.
So what's the theory for Bangzi?
What's the Bangzi theory like?
What are you, what are we giving him?
Where's he?
Where are you going to position him?
He'll just meet us at each of the feed stations, feed zones.
So.
You're not going to have a natural drop bag, just the Banksy bit, no.
Lester's Lester's burnt from his drop bag getting lost last year for a few minutes.
Yeah, I'm probably not going to need a drop bag of bangs.
He's going to be there.
My thinking there is that we get him to be just on the other side of the feed zone so that you go straight through the feed and then bangs is there maybe on the left hand side if they have it set up the same way they did last time and then just have a miss it sort of bag there and stop and load the bottles or just put miss it on the shoulder and.
A.
What bag A.
What?
What do you do with that?
Little.
Bag.
That you.
Put your stuff in and.
Then you can.
Like grab that and keep rolling and then you stick your bottles in and throw your stuff on the side and hopefully Benzie goes and picks it all up for us.
So Benzie is to clean up your mess.
Well.
The worst thing you'd want to do, the worst thing to do is to stop.
So if you can, keep moving, even slowly.
We're getting more.
Secrets.
Here but no one.
Has a Banksy though?
We've got a Banksy.
Yeah.
And depending how spaced out we are, it could be we might have to stop, but we'll see how we go.
We're probably on.
My theory is win the race.
Of this right?
But this kind of sport, but at.
Least we, I mean, we sound like we're very pro.
Illusion to everything the.
Reality is a very different story.
Yep.
Oh, I'm running the other nutrition secret that I've got as I'm running a bunch of calcium bars.
I.
Was just about to say LCM bars because that's what I was using too.
Yeah.
The money wants meal.
And some LCM bars.
LCM treats I've got.
Chocolate ones because they were out of the marshmallow ones at the supermarket when I was there.
I'm.
On Cookies and Cream at the moment.
Might.
Have to go again, see they had them on special the other day so I loaded up.
My.
Kids come out to the garage and they find I've got like a stash of them in my my drawer where my glasses and stuff around that.
What are these in here for?
I thought I'd go riding.
Leave them alone.
I always want to.
Steal them.
It's.
Like you can't, I can't use lollies anymore because my lolly stash gets sculpt, Yeah.
True.
What haven't we covered?
Boys, of course.
Looks pretty similar to last year, but we're not going all the way down into the bottom of box of birds this year.
It's about the change I can really see.
We're not going up to the top of the hill behind Kung Fu, are we?
I don't.
Think top of the world.
Or no.
Doesn't look like it, looks like we're just going up that road like we always have.
Yeah, OK.
So we in theory have maybe 1500 meters less climate.
Yeah.
Well, it's, yeah, 'cause you're that's a reasonable like that climb out as you do is pretty gross.
That's a pretty young one from the bottom of there, especially early on when the pace is still quite high.
So we ride the top section.
We.
Ride.
Yeah, we ride the just the very top of box of birds until it gets to the 1st Rd.
Yeah, yeah.
Until split and then you hook a right and you go back around the road and then you go just up that last little section of as you do back up to the road again.
Right, so.
It's quite short.
You don't drop anywhere near all the way down it.
I can't.
Picture where that is, but yeah.
What was the Kung Fu?
Do we go?
Do we go down to the bridge or Nah?
Not that far.
Not that far, not.
Even that far is it.
Just to the.
Is it to where the where it goes hard and easy?
Yeah.
Yeah, that's it.
OK, from what I can see.
And then and.
Then, yeah.
And then you'll hook a right hand turn and go back along a bit of road and then that takes your background just to the last kind of section of as you do back up to the road, right.
OK.
Oh, it is small.
Yeah.
Oh.
That's good.
It takes about 15 minutes out from what I've looked at from last year.
Right.
Not really.
So.
I'm going to got you to analyse all this florist KB because I'm.
Pretty.
Useless.
I'll be honest, looking at the the trail forks map is real confusing because it's so compacted I just give up.
What we should do is put it on rod with GPS because it's way easier to look at stuff on me and then it is on trail forks.
Yeah, didn't.
Think about it till now.
That's your job?
No, that's all right.
Is there queues?
Is there do we have a queue sheet like a breva?
Print it out.
No, you.
Can print one.
Off on You can print one off on Crowdfox can't or.
Differently.
Has them.
I don't know.
Anyway, you were going to ask about Kung Fu?
Where you?
Yeah.
What's the story there?
Yeah, so you ride the top section of.
Yeah, you ride the.
Top section of Kung Fu.
Yeah.
To the road, yeah.
Turn right, yeah.
And just blaze along there to Yahi Manawa and then you climb the climb into the bottom section, the bottom section.
Yeah, we did that last year.
It's pretty.
Good.
Yeah, didn't we?
Didn't we?
Did that last year?
No.
Yeah, we did.
Didn't.
We.
I'm sure we did.
Yeah.
I remember, though.
It was weird in there.
OK, but it didn't get it.
I don't remember.
Maybe.
We did.
Maybe we did right there.
I'm.
Pretty sure we did because it was like slightly overgrown at one point.
The year before I'm pretty sure went all the way down Kung Fu.
Yeah.
Before differently went down.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
No it doesn't.
Doesn't do that.
Single track above Frankfurt just goes straight up morting the road and then Bush Rd.
just up the roads to.
Kung.
Fu Yeah.
Otherwise it's pretty kind of similar, I think.
Hopefully not too much time in old Chevy again because that was pretty grim a couple of years ago.
Riding around in circles down.
There.
I actually quite like that track.
When you're not fully cracked, it's quite funny, yeah.
Well, that's the difference.
That's.
The problems that you like probably 93.
Yeah, climbing up to Rock drop was pretty grim last about two years ago.
Oh.
Yeah, yeah.
That's actually a real.
Sleeper piece.
I remember last year I got passed.
Oh.
Yeah.
By multiple people going up there because I was just creeping so.
Cooked.
Yeah, yeah.
That's what happens when you just ride way too hard for way too long.
Over your head, it'll happen.
It will you.
Know in theory the course isn't even 100 KS this year so it's fine.
You can go all out.
It's only 97.9 according to trail forks or something like that, so you know you haven't even had triple digits.
Just looking at the old Chevy section, we don't do all of it, eh we.
Don't do it.
Doesn't look like it.
It looks.
Quite I need a.
Real small bit, yeah, we go straight down, uh, homeward bound by the we are.
Homeward bound by that point.
Yeah.
So you've got like straight line heap of it like 2/3.
Oh, so you're going down Homeward bound?
Is that the one that goes?
Parallel with the road, yeah.
Oh.
Right.
OK, that's fast too through.
There, Yeah.
Are we?
Picking up a shorter time, is this going to be faster year or a slower year do you think?
This should be a faster year with the stuff that's cut out of it.
Without the bottom.
Of box of birds and should be faster.
Interesting.
There's nothing else.
Significant added.
No.
Well.
I guess if we're comparing to last year though, if we didn't do to here tower last year.
No it didn't.
Went down straw the way down Billy to.
Yeah.
So it could be if we're riding there, then that will be potentially slower.
So that could be why he's shut that other stuff off, just to keep it in the time rather than the distance.
Yeah.
Maybe.
Well, OK, well we should find out when we cross eyed and 5 1/2 hours deep into the race and trying to crawl our way up, rock drop and get down that shit.
I guess by the time we get there, Yep, it'll be interesting.
It'll be like every other year I think.
Get to the end and be like, I don't need to do this again.
And then half an hour later you're like, how can I go a bit faster?
Yeah, I this is the first year that I've actually before the event gone.
Actually I don't know if I want to train this committed again.
You must have gone date Lester.
I've just done, it's been a long process and I guess part of it was that I've done two other kind of key races as well beforehand and I was training for those.
So you'll forget about that though.
You'll you'll.
Forget about it, you'll be fine my.
Wife can't forget about it.
No, but.
You are going you are going full time breve guy at some point so.
That's true, Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, maybe do we want to just extend this podcast out a little bit to talk breve because there's an even bigger event than the Walker coming?
Well.
Yeah.
Can I tell you also about the event that I have coming up after the Walker?
Go throw that one in there too.
Go.
So after Sunday, after Sunday, I'm hanging the bike up and I'm lacing up the running shoes and I'm doing an off road half marathon at the start of December.
Oh, you got heaps.
Of time.
Yeah, it's man.
It's like a good.
It's like a good five weeks or something, like I've only run three times this year, that'll be fine.
That sounds terrible.
I couldn't think of anything worse.
Yep, it's.
Not one of my prior ideas.
But.
Hopefully I can make it.
Make it.
That'll be good, yes.
You should coming up with the boys.
Yeah.
Red Dog.
You'll be using your brevet form.
That's a real concern.
Lisa.
What can we talk about the brevet event that's on right now?
I was.
Just going to say we've actually overlooked one of the most one of the marquee events happening at the moment.
Exactly.
I think I like it the most because the Brevet event with two guys who aren't even racing together, Yeah, it's the best part.
It's.
Fantastic.
Are you going to go out and share them on Kerry for that coming through your town?
Yeah, I was actually just looking.
I was literally just going to the dot watch now to see where I think Rufus might be coming through tomorrow.
So.
Oh.
Joey got different.
Updated probably.
Oh.
There he is.
Yeah, Joe's blazing.
He must be.
Almost.
Yeah, he's probably.
950 KS deep now.
Rufus.
So.
Anyway, it doesn't know because not everyone goes in the breve circles like us.
Hound Dogs Donations riding from the North to the bottom of New Zealand and Rufus Winlock is riding from Bluff to the tip of the North.
Island.
So they're going to crossover on the same route, Shake.
Hands on the same route.
Yeah, the Shaky Isles route, so the race between mates, but they're pretty evenly matched in general, Rufus.
Rufus is just sure, I have 1000 K's at the moment, so he's about 45 K's ahead of Joe at the moment.
That's nothing though, really, is it?
No.
Especially because you have no idea what the.
Elevation looks like.
So yeah, it's going to be super interesting, isn't it?
But the cool thing is that if you maybe can we put the link to the map and the show notes.
The KB, yeah, we can definitely do that.
For anyone who's not up.
With.
What's going on there?
You can follow the boys online.
It's pretty pretty interesting.
Or.
Or check them out on the the grain.
Jeez, you really sounded your age just in on the gram.
Like I saw it.
On the I saw it on the Facebook.
On the interweb, yeah, they're just bevying down seemingly wherever they feel the need, which is pretty cool.
That's.
Cool, it was next to a like a a hay Bale last night for Rufus by the locks.
Yeah, or like.
A silage Bale.
That'll be us soon, bro.
Red Dog.
That's well.
Should I just, should I just step out and let you guys just no, we need to.
Talk to your talk about now we need you to call us early idiots.
It's sort of a 32nd intervals.
That's a given.
Do we?
Need to talk about Rampage or not?
I don't even think I want to.
I honestly have watched very little of it other than the dude who looks like he's probably seriously seriously injured from that horrific crash.
Yeah, I don't know, Robin.
Gooms won, Yeah.
Got on here two years in a row.
Back.
To back, that's fair play.
What?
What did Chris say today?
There was a 30 something percent attrition rate of people not starting.
Yeah.
Yeah, 31%.
Oh, because they got wrecked.
On Yeah Yeah, this year's rampage had a start list attrition rate of 31%.
What's his next one that's worse than non critical injury from the Iraq war?
Just to really feed us some facts.
That's like good parallel.
I.
Did really enjoy red dogs support support the troops though, that was what made it for me.
Yeah.
It's.
I think it could be a pivotal year again for Rampage because the level was getting so high and fair play to those guys.
If they want to do that, that's great.
But someone is going to die soon, and what happens then, you know?
Honestly, I'm a new one.
Silver's.
Crash today he he could have died very it's just luck really.
I will be.
Surprised if he walks again after that from I mean obviously I have no first hand experience of it all but from seeing the way he first hit the ground with his head and then flipped again and did the exact same impact, I'm like that is not good not.
Like that that.
Looks.
It was horrific.
I don't quite like Red Bull, just seems to be barking up the wrong tree with this stuff like this.
Is it really progression if you're just maiming most of your field?
Not.
Really.
Are more kids getting into bikes because of that?
Maybe.
I don't know.
Like I wouldn't have thought so.
I think that it Stokes the young kids out, but what is it also like, you know, how many other young kids are going to destroy themselves because they're like, oh, you just go and you just have this massive cleft for what?
You know, maybe we're just too old.
I don't know.
Maybe, I don't know, it feels.
Like the young kids would be more stoked when they watch Jackson Goldstone go when Mont St.
Anne by 2 1/2 seconds and be like this.
Because I mean, he looks like he's 16 still.
I don't know.
It just looks like that's, but maybe that's just because I like racing.
That's.
A hard one.
I, I think that that's probably the case.
You like racing and a lot of a lot of those Groms, they don't even know what racing is.
You know, they don't watch.
No.
Racing at all?
No, they got TikTok brands they just want to watch.
Yeah, that's right.
They just.
Want to watch Jackson doing webs and LeBron dunking?
Watch LeBron.
I want to say exactly.
Yeah, but.
Doesn't it, like every other sport is trying to make itself like safer and more accessible to accessible to people.
And at the same time, we're like hurting probably more people than before.
And when you look at Rampage, you're like, well, I don't say I can even do that.
It's way out of, you know, these guys are hugging off cliffs in the disk.
It's unattainable.
But this, yeah, it's like skiing though, you know?
Like there's always dudes doing the craziest stuff and there's always a hand where honestly, you're talking about how many dudes go to Rampage 15 or something?
Not many.
So there's.
Not many people really that are affected by this.
And I think you've got to have that mentality around it as it's like the top 1% of the 1% that are doing that.
And if they choose to do that and fair play, but I'm just trying to see if there's any update on I'd be.
Interested to I'd be interested to know if like because I'm we're obviously old and jaded and I don't care for Rampage but someone probably does like the youth probably like it.
I'd be interested to know on how it rates.
Didn't.
We get hammered last year for talking about talking badly about Rampage, Yeah.
We did, yeah.
Yeah.
And we will again this year, yeah.
No doubt.
I.
Remember when Paul Bassigodia got wrecked on and he's never been the same?
He can write again.
He's not, you know, he's had life changing effects from his trash.
And I remember that that was quite a pivotal moment in Rampage history.
But it'd be interesting to talk to somebody like him now.
Actually I do recall there was a couple of interviews done in the last few years with him on his opinions of what what it's about.
I can't remember what the what they were, to be fair.
The one thing I.
Will throw in there that I did learn about Rampage today was the kid that won was actually a wild card entry who got an entry because someone else got broken off and couldn't compete practice so I'd never.
Heard of him?
I didn't recognize his name at all.
Never heard of him so go on, get on.
That guy can't even remember what.
He was riding a.
Rocky Mountain that he would surprised me.
Oh nice.
Bikes.com Was he Canadian?
Was.
He was.
He really right?
He was Canadian.
He showed up in the drop in bus.
Yeah, with Dylan Tremblay, he's now trying to become a personality.
I don't know I'm.
Kind of.
Into it.
I like.
I like I like Rampage, but I also hate it at the same time.
Chris's idea was fantastic.
I.
Think they're headless?
I think that's a great alternative.
So, Chris?
'S Chris's idea was that you take the free ride zone, but you actually just roll tractor tyres down from the top.
That's.
Right.
So no.
One gets injured, No.
Yeah, except for potentially.
Spectators because those tyres do go who knows where, but.
You have to build a.
Line for your tyres, yeah.
Yeah, you've got to run it down the line.
Yeah.
It would be.
Also really you get.
All the good stuff of Rampage, like you're still broing down with your digger mates.
Yeah, yeah.
And the tyre can still do some tracks, yeah.
And it's still like a live broadcast and camber call and.
Sal Masekela still do the live broadcast.
That's right.
That's.
Still.
Employed.
So that's actually all good, yeah.
He was, and he was thinking he just.
Becomes the roller yeah start another one who releases the tire and.
Chris is serious.
We bring in some like some new sponsors like Messy Ferguson and, you know, John Deere.
Yeah, some sponsors, yeah, John Deere, some sponsors like that to the sport, even though it's actually.
Not that.
Well, anymore.
Totally.
I think, I think there's links in there.
I just want to rewinding a little bit.
I actually think that now what I dislike about Rampage is because it's become so manufactured and it's essentially A slopestyle course.
If it wasn't, you wouldn't get dudes trying to do a double backflip on a step down.
So.
If they said right, you can no longer build anything that's manicured or a lip or anything like that.
It's just about the gnarliest line.
Or maybe you can jump onto something but you can't jump off it or I don't know.
I reckon they get a, they get a day and they get Rakes, and that's all they're allowed is Rakes.
Yeah.
They're not allowed to build lips.
You're just allowed to rake rocks and shit out of the way and that's it.
Take it back to 2004.
Yeah.
I, I kind of have to agree.
And then you'll get the guys the the racer guys turning up again because it's not a slopestyle.
Company just we're just trying to bring this back to racing and then we're going to we're going to time it from the top to the bottom as well.
No.
Interesting.
I don't know.
That's an interesting one.
I'm just I'm pretty glad that I wasn't there.
Like I in other years I've been like, you know, it would actually be really cool to go to Rampage and kind of like cover behind the scenes Y kind of stuff.
I mean, there's heaps of media outlets doing that, but when those guys get raped like that, I actually have no desire to see that stuff anymore.
It hurts too much.
You feel the pain in your bones.
Yeah.
Oh.
I mean even just the I saw Adolf Silver crashed in practice.
Was it or was it his first one?
And he?
Flips once and over, rotates and slaps the front and gets ejected out.
That's right, that in.
Itself is so gnarly.
Too old for that shit.
Yeah.
Anyway.
The words of the great Nathan Rankin.
I'm too old for that shit bunch.
Of grumpy old men aren't.
We and let's go, let's go join all our other grumpy old men next weekend.
I can't wait and.
The mammals.
Yeah, on.
That note, let's call it a wrap, yeah.
Let's wrap it up.
We got big and you know, important carb loading and things like that to go and do nitrate loading all that sort of stuff for the Walker.
So make sure you stop by and see us.
If you see red dog stopping for a chat, say good day, come for a ride with us on Friday, but otherwise we'll we'll see you next week for a recap of how it all went.
Hopefully it's AI don't know.
Hopefully it's a good one.
Could be a bad one, but either way you'll be entertained.
We'll.
See you next week.
Alright.
