Mac & Bone Hour 1: Panthers Get Blown Out By Jacksonville in 2025 Opener

Episode Transcript

Speaker 1

When I come on sty Oh.

Speaker 2

It is Mica and bo.

Speaker 1

You guys are the most entertaining sports program in the world.

Speaker 3

Bone, gob it, no, no stop talking.

You and I are a couple eating like Lady in the tramp.

You're the lady on the tree.

Yeah, come on, come on, baby, I was Boopy Boopy McLean.

Speaker 1

Man, it's a great name.

Oh the Bard.

Oh, good morning, Charlotte, welcome up?

Speaker 3

Who am I kid?

It's not a good morning and Charlotte, welcome board.

It is Mac and Bone show time.

Uh, we're back.

The Panthers are back, aren't we Aren't we excited?

We asked for this, aren't we excited?

The Panthers are back.

Another brutal season opener for the Panthers for Bryce Young.

The run defense picked up where it left off last year.

We got things to talk about, y'all.

And then the rain.

The weather delay was the highlight of the game.

I hear a lot of people complain and I took a nap.

That was my favorite hour of the whole entire Sunday afternoon.

Oh man, let's talk, baby, let's talk, let's vent.

Speaker 1

Unfortunately, we know the drill.

Speaker 3

We also must discuss the fact that the Bills rallied last night.

Speaker 1

Well, many of us may have fallen.

Speaker 3

Asleep fitting in for me of this earlier this morning, and I watched the highlights.

It really was pretty amazing coming back from fifteen down in the fourth quarter.

So the Bills win the open at Ryan Blaney wins the NASCAR race at Saint Louis or not Ryan Blaine noll am I talking about right.

Speaker 1

Looks in my mind.

Speaker 3

Danny Hamlin won.

Danny Hamlin won.

I even typed it into the computer.

Ryan Blaney wents.

Ryan Blaney finished fourth after being wrecked by my guy Kyle Larson.

Anyway, we got college football to talk about.

We got some upsets, we got a Bill Belichick win, We got things to discuss there on the Mech Show.

I'm no better to Panthers.

I'm getting ready to rip them bone.

I'm no better than them.

Yeah, and I thought we scripped out the first ten to fifteen plays.

One note on that Bill's game max.

Since the year two thousand, teams that have trailed by fifteen or more in the last four minutes have now won three times in two thy three hundred and fifteen games.

So to say that that doesn't happen offensive understatement three times now in two thousand, three hundred and fifteen games the last twenty five years, in the Bills forty one to forty win.

I also fell asleep, completely stunned when I woke up today to see what happened in that ball and I tried to like it got to forty twenty five and I said, I'm good here.

Speaker 1

I left it.

Speaker 3

I pause or not paused, but muted the TV, so it was kind of still on.

But I woke up, local news was on.

Figured the Ravens won.

My Ravens tea still hit though, And that's really all that Charlotte cares about this morning, I'm sure.

But anyway, fact there falls amazing, bone like that game proves it, the weekend proves it.

Football's ef an amazing.

But then the Panthers play and it's not amazing.

There was a there was a show on CBS six or seven years ago called Under the Dome.

Speaker 1

Great show.

Speaker 3

I watched it.

It was a terrible show.

The premise was a show disagree, I get involved.

Speaker 1

Your guy.

Speaker 3

Dean Norris was the guy, and a dome came down over the town they couldn't escape.

Premise was all right, then it just got completely out of hand.

I feel like right now we are under a football dome and we can't get out of this thing.

I feel like we're just and we're just going in circles and we're just almost reliving the same football season over and over and over.

Speaker 1

You ain't kidding I.

Speaker 3

I the Panthers hurt me so much, like I was screaming so much yesterday.

I mean, I just they Why do I let them hurt me?

Speaker 1

You know what I mean?

Speaker 3

Why do I get myself to a point Bone every FN week one where they can hurt me?

But they did that, And I'm not alone.

I know that many of y'all are hurt again.

This team Bone has lost ten games or more six straight seasons, and right now they are tracking for number seven.

It's one week and we JC Horn tolds that, guess say it's one week.

It is, But my god, it was a very disappointing week.

It really was, and it brings into question yet again the way coach Canalis prepares a team like he can act like it doesn't, but it one hundred percent does.

And listen, it happened before you got here, Brosky.

I mean we got blown out in Frank Reich's opener.

We've lost four straight openers.

Bryce Young has looked horrendous in every opener he's played.

It absolutely horrendous, Like he should should just start Andy Dalton and the opener because I don't know what the hell happens in early season Bryce.

But his rookie year, you get it.

Last year it was shocking.

This year it's even more shocking.

I mean, I don't even know where to start.

Speaker 2

Bone.

Speaker 3

The run defense gives up two hundred yards for the seventh straight game.

So they spent all this money up front, and the result statistically is still the same.

Speaker 1

Uh.

Speaker 3

It's frustrating.

I can't help but watch that game and feel like, why did we trade out him?

Feeling exactly like y'all really thought like we were a Jayleen Kocher injury away from that where it's t Mac and that at wide receiver.

One wide receiver had over thirty yards yesterday.

One it's the rookie in his first game.

Oh not only that, Bone, but I believe Tuba had thirty something.

But I'm talking about the actual white receivers.

I believe the receiver wide receivers other than t Mac had five for twenty one, so together Bone they couldn't get the thirty.

They couldn't get the twenty five.

Yep, you're right, and Sanders had twenty seven.

But yeah, right wide receiver and Sanders left to play on the field.

Should have caught it.

Renfro should have caught a ball.

I know he took a shot, but that's what you do for a living man at your job.

Like you work the slot, you take shots and you hold on to the football.

Speaker 1

Xcel.

Speaker 3

I mean, my god, what do you think he had another acre to get his feet down?

I mean, it's just stuff like that.

And then Bryce Young was terrible.

I'm not on here to defend Bryce Young.

If he keeps playing like that, we are royally screwed as an organization, flat out.

So there's just so many things today and yesterday that bother me about this team.

I love this team so much, but like this team.

My love for this team boat is not healthy.

And I can't be the only ones thinking that you hit on it.

Why do they come out so ill prepared and fundamentally flawed the opening game of the season, it was the basics of quarterback play toe tapping your foot like you talk about xcel Austin Corbick can't get the snap right for most of the gain, A guy that we never even worried about all offseason, all of a sudden he's got the yip snap in the football.

Whatever it was, the fundamentals of the game.

Look, far too often we say this, or I say this, we are accustomed to losses.

We are not stunned by any losses football team has.

In the first seven games that we highlighted, we said they're winnable, but they can also lose them.

So the fact they went on the road and lost Week one, that's not the shocking part by any means.

It's the defense that is new, giving up that many yards, the offense being that flawed, and the fact that they weren't even competitive.

I would accept the loss yesterday and say, you know what, there's stuff to build off of.

How did they look one year later like they did in the opener against the Orland a year ago.

How did they regrets from the hope that we had at the end of the season.

That's the problem.

It's not the loss, it's that they became an unwatchable product again.

And you're right that nap yesterday.

I thought to myself, can we get some more lightning strikes so I can keep on snooze losing here.

I'm telling you, it was the most It was the only peaceful time I had yesterday, because again, once the panthers go panthering, they ruined my rest of my Sunday.

You want to know why I lived for Saturday in the fall, I just I got sure.

I got a ton of teams I'd like to see when but nobody hurts me like that on Saturday.

Man, Like I just I know a lot of y'all get get just as hurt on Saturdays.

And we could deal with that.

You could talk about that, Gator fans, we could talk about that, We could talk about the issues Clemson has and all that.

Speaker 1

Sort of stuff.

Speaker 3

But for me personally, man, my god, Sundays can be horrible, and yesterday was.

And you're right, it was a little bit of everybody.

It was a little bit of everything involved.

And as far as the preparations build up for week one too, then they just the way, they pete down their way and we get ourselves and we get ourselves optimistic every year like idiots, man, like we are in a toxic, abusive relationship, and we keep coming.

Speaker 1

Back, keep coming to hell back, You're gonna hurt me again.

Speaker 3

But here I am.

Go ahead and it hurt me.

My head said, just flew off.

Go ahead and hurt me again, panthers, I'm too stupid to realize it.

And then you've got the people bone that tried to tell us Brice sucks.

And then they text and call in the day and say I told you so.

I don't want to hear that quite, like, you know what I mean, Like that's no funny either.

It's just your you know what, We're all better off just being negative fans that never believe in anything, because then you just it just sucks and.

Speaker 1

I'm out.

Speaker 3

But no, you've got the freaking you know, dumb asses like me that actually want to get.

Speaker 1

Myself believing in something.

Speaker 3

And then the preseason, Oh my god, Dave Canali is seriously, bro, this is a second straight year we wanted you to play guys more in the preseason and they go out there looking like they should.

Speaker 1

Have played more than damn preseason.

Oh my goodness, seriously.

Speaker 3

And we sit here and talk all last week about I said it on Friday.

I didn't have much fear of the Jacksonville run game.

I had more fear of Brian Thomas being the guy that could hurt us.

Brian Thomas did have the he did have the rushing touchdown, but outside of that, he had what one catch for They did a good job, had one catch for eleven yards.

Jacey Horn had a good day yesterday too, and then intercept one catch for eleven yards.

But yet they give up two hundred on the ground.

I may I may just give up talking on Fridays.

I do like your faith in the run defense, like I didn't feel like we need to see it to believe.

Speaker 1

But but I didn't think two bills were coming again.

Speaker 3

I mean serious, nobody nobody hates themselves right now more than I hate myself.

Speaker 1

I think we all do.

Speaker 3

Man.

Actually, I don't know.

Do we hate ourselves or we just hate our football team?

Oh my god, I deserve to be spanked.

So we're gonna talk through.

I'm an left fitty handle that.

Speaker 1

By the way.

Speaker 3

The fact that Panther Fitty is still with us as a positive, though he did not go on a tweet barrage about another football team.

I say, unless I missed it, though I don't unless I missed it.

I think he's still with us or are we glad?

Speaker 1

Are you here because he left us a year ago on this day.

Speaker 4

I'm here, baby, I'm ready to yell complain, but both of you because yesterday was bad.

Speaker 3

Fitty run run, We're not We're encouraging you.

You don't have to do this to yourself.

Speaker 4

Oh man, at least you'll get to watch the games again the solace of your own home.

I have to deal with Smoke who Smoke will tell you what's what's acceptable, to complain about it, what's not?

Speaker 1

Oh, and then complain police.

Speaker 4

And then Willie p who was bragging about complaining about excel sucking.

I was complaining about him before it was cool.

Speaker 1

That's what I do.

Speaker 3

Congratulations Willie.

What the f does that do for us as Panther fans?

Seriously?

Who wants to hear that I was right?

Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

I don't like that whole stuff like now.

Maybe I don't like it because I'm always wrong, but I just it does nothing for a fan based ass.

Speaker 1

I got not tell you about my diag dog.

You know what I mean.

Speaker 3

We're fans, man, we're fans, but we were all skeptical of Excel.

It wasn't like we all thought he was Jerry Rice.

Yeah, but like I kind of like that voice you did there?

What it was, fire Mark Bill?

That's again, I just I told her about Adam Feeling.

You want me to do that today?

No one wants to hear that, but I'll just simply say, like, I just feel like we could have used Adam Feeling yesterday to just help Bryce Young.

And then fans are gonna say, well, if Bryce Young needstealing, then he just sucks.

We Well, maybe you're right, but how about you help your young quarterback that had a good stretch of ten games?

Speaker 1

Only just help them.

Speaker 3

Adam Thielen can leave, go to minnesot I would have told Adam Thielen to kiss my rear end if I was Dan Morgan.

Seriously, bro, this is about the team.

This ain't about the Feeling family getting relocated, all right, su?

Speaker 1

So what do I look like here?

Speaker 3

You know what I mean?

I look like a travel agent.

Send you to the damn Great Lakes.

I mean that's what I would have said to him, all respect.

I don't think he's a jerk or anything, but I just did it anyway.

So we'll talk all about it today.

It's very upsetting, and then your mind goes to places like, is this rebuild just not going to work?

Is this the next group?

And it's way too early.

It's way too early to declare that, although y'all can declare that if you want, but it's too early for me to declare that.

But your mind goes to those places.

Someone already wants Excel to work on toe tapping with Dolla Bill, getting their host down together, Carolina Brinks, So you go, Caroline Brings.

You tried to tell me some Is that what you're telling me on the text line?

Mac, It's time to real.

Avaro in his three to four scheme is freaking horrible.

The interesting thing about the three four scheme and I watched every defensive snap back last night because I hate myself, but I watched it back last night.

The very interesting thing about the three four schame bone is they did the thing that I pointed out they were doing in the preseason.

The whole first half.

I don't even know if they played base three to four at all.

They get into the nickel, even on first and ten, they get into the nickel and they walked Trayvon merrigup as a third linebacker, and they're essentially playing a four to three a lot.

There are other times where they're just in the nickel.

It's essentially four to two and you got five dbs in the second half.

And I do think the defense was substantially better in the second half.

I know no one wants to hear that they gave up nineteen carries for sixty six yards and the second half Bone it was like thirteen for one thirty four in the first including the big one.

They played a lot more on first and ten.

They played a lot more base three three four, and it actually helped because you have bigger bodies.

I don't understand why Bone you would take a big body off the field when you were this sucky run defense from last year.

Why would you take a big body off the field on first and ten, the number one rundown in football.

It doesn't make sense to me.

So we got to talk through this a little bit.

But I watched it last night.

So anyway, like I know, everybody just says three to four, but I just I think there's a lot more to it than that.

But I am questioning a varrow in that way.

Also need to mention, well, I guess we talked about the Bills coming back.

So the Bill's comeback bone as much as I can gather because I was snoozy losing to use your word, the Bills comeback included a lucky tip touchdown pass on fourth and two.

It included a Raven's fumble.

It also included a the red They actually got stopped on a two point conversion to try to or they try to know they're trying to win it, take the lead on two conversion, but somehow they got the ball back again and we're kicking a field goal in the final ten seconds.

So the Ravens looked like they were the Ravens as any great comeback bone.

The other teams involved two and now they should have both.

Someone has to allow you to come back.

But those are the best two teams in football, you allso had Lamar Jackson are not best two teams in football, two of the best teams in football.

I should say they'll probably see each other again.

It was a classic, and of course I'm sleeping during the classic.

But also need to be mentioned Lamar Jackson shoving that fanback and that fans a complete jerk for trying to shove Henry and Lamar.

So he probably deserves it, to be honest with you, but that was certainly notable.

We'll see what the league does.

I know that Bills fan should never be allowed to go to a game again if they can find him.

No, that was that was That was a rough look for Buffalo.

Also in the loss, Mack Dereck Henry is not really aging, is he?

Dereck Henry?

When we started talking, when we start talking about the greatest of all time running backs, I'm not saying he's going to be at the very top, but he he's not slowing down and he's just piling up yardage.

Why he he he's going to be in that that discussion of at least some of the best ever.

I think is that he's that good man.

He just keeps on Trunck and Dundee's monster game.

And he's got gay speed too.

It's not just power.

He gets out there in the open and guys got angles on him and they don't catch him.

They don't catch his big hind how about I saw the other day that he still has yet to pass his high school yardage total as an NFL running back for his career.

He ran for twelve thousand yards in high school.

I believe it.

I mean, they can't tack him in the NFL.

How high school kids tackling him.

When we come back.

College Football Weekend recap, Chapel Bill gets his first win, the Pack survives, Duke was sloppy again, and the Palmetto State duo has some work to do.

Sports Radio ninety two seven WFNZ.

Speaker 5

I'm proud of our team.

You know, there's a lot of things that win football games, but two of the things that you got to have have not just win a game, but to have a really good team and good season, is you got to you gotta have resilience, and you gotta have some courage.

You gotta have some freaking courage.

And you know, about everything that could go wrong was going wrong with these guys.

And obviously you're coming off a really disappointing week and a lot of you know, uh, noise for these kids and again managing disappointment, and then you step in there and all of a sudden, it's like craziness and you spotted.

You can't spot a team like that two touchdowns and that's what we did.

Speaker 1

Like that, Oh, I wasn't.

Speaker 3

I didn't know what I was on.

I don't know I was on there, but it still works.

Tabo said, you can't spot a team like that two touchdowns.

You're playing Troy Dabbo.

You were playing one man, and Troy was an hell of a player because he had jawed down sixteen to nothing.

And Uh, anyway, listen, I know what you're doing, Dabo.

I mean you're lying, but understand what you're doing.

I respect the good life.

I'm sure behind the scene, I'm sure this is one of the easy year.

A lot of coaches say this bone.

I get you know, I get you back in the press conference, but you got to deal with me privately, and I would think it's something like that.

I can't imagine that's the message to the team.

I can't imagine the message to the team is not different, like, hey, that's not good enough.

And they did come back.

They scored twenty seven straight.

Because I gotta be honest with you, Bo, when they had that weird pick six from their own like one yard line, the battle ball caught it to one by the hog Molly and then taking a yard into the end zone.

I started the Clemson was playing so badly.

I started, honestly thinking, are they going to lose this game?

So I give him credit.

They did and it came out of this rand the ball in the second half.

I was waiting for him just to try to run the ball with attitude, and Adam Randall did.

Delivery did go over one hundred yards and they played much better.

The defense really sparked it the second half.

Two bone forcing the turnovers as well, including the butterception off Hampton's rear end.

The Jones came over and said, thanks, I got that one.

But man, Clemson's got a lot of stuff to work on, and the thing is bone.

They don't have time to work on it.

They got Georgia Tech on the road on Saturday.

Yeah, so if they come out flat again, they'll they'll be one and two without question.

Haines King did not play the other day, but fil the backup quarterback for Georgia Tech, is actually maybe a better thrower than Haines King is, so that didn't really affect them too much.

Speaker 1

But yeah, that's uh.

I thought they were.

I thought they.

Speaker 3

Were in trouble, but you could tell immediately in the second half they had a different bounce to their step.

There.

They were playing with urgency they didn't have in the first half.

So as soon as the second half started, in my mind it was all right, how much are they actually gonna win by now?

They woke up, But it took a long time for them to wake up.

And that was the problem in the Palmeto State from multiple teams on Saturday.

Yeah, South Carolina again did this thing Bone where Swayin as a punt returner and the defense, you know, win the game for them.

They had Bone one offensive touchdown against South Carolina State.

Hell of a pass by Sellers, but they had one offensive touchdown.

The offense was not good either really against Virginia Tech.

And I think we found out bone on Saturday night in the second half, that Virginia Tech ain't any good.

That Vanderbilt outscore Virginia Tech in their house thirty four to nothing in the second half.

And who does South Carolina have visit in Vanderbilt, And who do they have after Vanderbilt Missouri who came from fifteen down against their border rival and whipped their ass.

I mean, prabueled a quarterback three thirty four passing two separate one art yard rushers.

South Carolina does not look better, in my opinion, bone than either one of their next two opponents.

Yet, yeah, the common opponent doesn't feel good for South Carolina at the moment.

Now, they had some moments early last year, you know again the OLDU game ODU, where they kind of looked like they did the other night, and eventually they played in the next week and I thought they were in trouble and they blasted Kentucky.

So the game Cocks in the last couple of years, you never know what they may be week to week.

So I'm expecting a better, more solid performance Saturday night.

Speaker 1

But yeah, they've that was that was not.

Speaker 3

The score is not indicative of really the sloppiness of that effort.

It got away to the point where if you just looked at the score, you'd say, yeah, they did what they had to do.

But it it took a while to get to that point.

It took a lot two things to happen.

The point by ODU is a good one, though, Boone, because last year ODU they barely survive, like against Virginia Tech, they still won by two touchdowns.

Against South Carolina State, it was still thirty eight ten like, so as sloppy as it is.

Speaker 1

There are other areas of.

Speaker 3

The game outside of the offense that is picking them up.

The Swain kid is ridiculous.

Yeah, I mean three straight punt returns and he still has that street going into the next week's game because the last one row handle he didn't handle it.

Three he hasn't returned the last three punt returns for touchdowns.

It's absolutely absurd.

And the second one on Saturday night was just like toying with South Carolina State.

I don't know if they were trying to kick it away from him bone after he ran the first one back and had one against Virginia Tech, or if they just if the punter kicked it off the side of his foot.

But it's this horrible punt that like, it looks like it's just going to be downed, and swayin Is probably has the confidence bone of Superman at this point, so he runs over right in front of the guy it's about ready down the ball and just picks it up, circles around to the other side, and runs it back.

I mean, I was one of the most impressive weird returns, but one of the most impressive returns I've ever seen, so at least other guys are stepping up.

Willis had a defensive touchdown as well.

But yeah, their schedule is about ready to get a lot tougher in the next two weeks.

Is going to be fascinating.

I did not see their defense being this far ahead of their offense.

It sarked the year with as many losses as they had, but first couple of weeks the defense has done their hard and yeah, it's different characters involved in a lot of places, but they haven't really worked that much different than a year ago.

Dylan Stewart had another play the other net where he knocked a South Carolina State player almost back to their campus.

I mean, they got a lot of freaks on that destroyed the guy he did.

So we'll see what they do next week.

But they got to get better.

So does Clemson.

But hey, they're winning the well, Clemson is not winning.

Speaker 1

All the games.

Speaker 3

I take that back South Carolina.

That's one of both, but needs to get better.

Clemson has lost one and then one one.

Here's the weird thing.

LSU came back and played with their food against Louisiana tach They did twenty three seven, so there was there was a lot of interesting results We'll get to the upsets too, because South Florida is the story of the season so far, but we'll stay local for a few four minutes more minutes.

Christian Huntersville says the punt was partially black, so dude ran up.

He's feeling so good.

He ran up that the punt was blocked and he can't let it be.

I got take that right off the toes of the defender and still run for a touchdown.

Ridiculous, man, guitar Heels.

That's their best play right now?

Is his putt return?

It is man.

I would punt the ball completely out of bounds Vanderbilt if I were you, all right?

So the punt return bone man or not?

The punt return the Heels game.

We got talk about the Heels game.

We got to talk about NC State holding on for dear life.

Speaker 1

The Heels game.

Speaker 3

It wasn't the most esthetically pleasing or entertaining football game I've ever watched, Bony, and I watched the whole thing.

I locked in because two of our teams are playing the Heels, and Bill Belichick and of course our squad here in Charlotte.

It definitely was better for the Heels.

But the opponent was a lot more doable.

I mean, it has to be said, Tim Albin has a lot of work cut out for him.

I thought Carolina they started strong again.

First drive unc Bone is a force man.

This time it ended up being a deep ball to Caliver and Culver played pretty damn well, but he got hurts.

Speaker 1

I'm a little concerned about his else go.

Speaker 3

Lopez made plays with his legs that was They still not run a lot of design runs for them, and Belichick said the other day, you know, he's got to use his running ability, but we don't want to run twenty five times.

But he made a lot of like third down plays, Bones scrambling, so at least the running skills were more apparent.

It felt like Carolina in the second half, Bone was literally trying to run things out just like felt like, okay, twenty to three is safe.

Although Charlotte did move the ball and didn't get the points maybe they should have gotten, but it just felt like the very conservative play calling in the second half and let's just get out of here with a W like twenty points was enough that Charlotte was going to get nowhere near the twenty point mark.

I thought that they were at UNC was going to go for like a thirty or forty point win the way they started out.

You wonder if there's a situation here that we've seen the first two games where Go Lopez in the offense and Freddy Kitchens they're scripting out the first series and they're really good at it because they're a different offense really after that first series.

So are they practicing those plays a lot?

Speaker 1

Whatever?

Speaker 3

It feels like once they go off script is when they started to get in more trouble.

But I mean, they took care of business.

They did what they had to do.

I don't think it was ultimately all that impressive.

They didn't really have to be in that particular bat up.

But Charlotte is even much further behind than I even thought they were going to be this year.

I thought they'd be a lot at least competitive in the first two games.

This is a major cleanup operation for Tim Alboin.

I still thought they moved it at times and just didn't finish drives, Like how about the one where Mason drops it, Like that should be a touchdown pass from Harrol.

Mason got away from Dixon, Carolina's best corner and he drops it the goal line.

Speaker 1

Then you had Loftus.

Speaker 3

Loftus comes in and he's moving it and I'm like, all right, maybe Loftus should be the guy.

Speaker 1

And he throws two picks.

Speaker 3

Yeah, so it's like, okay, well he moved the ball, but then he threw two picks.

Speaker 1

But yeah, Alvin's got work to do.

Speaker 3

Meanwhile, boone Tim albins Ohio Boys beat West Virginia.

Speaker 1

That's what Tim Alby left.

Speaker 3

So there's no doubt, like he took a risk to come here, Like this is a process.

To use one of fans most hated words.

Carolina got the dub.

I expect him to get a dub again against Richmond and then like then the tests start happening again.

So I kind of golf clap.

I kind of do one of the old Mark Packer golf claps for Carolina.

Game game was but nothing, nothing too extreme.

Game Day was considering going to West Virginia this coming weekend.

Then they lost to Ohio.

Who's West Virginia.

It's the backyard brawl.

Yeah, you shouldn't even consider to be considering going there for that one.

But then these great games and they were going to go to that day.

That's just what Herbie kind of indicated the I'm glad well West Virginia did you a favor, Herbie, because I'm telling you this day, I love this late coming up in week three, I love this late man.

So anyway you can find about six, I actually can find about forty better games go to now.

After West Virginia lost, even the seed, even the Sea dub has a big time matchup to day.

They got that Miami South Florida game.

They had a great one this week.

But Wes West had a great one this week with with Baylor rally and from two touchdowns down in a fourth with five minutes ago to beat SMU.

Tough loss for the ACC there, Duke was a tough loss for the ACC two Bony as a tar Heel fan told you yet that score was very close to the TISA.

Have you heard that bone, because that is the tar Heel fan rallying Crod.

I haven't heard that.

I've heard about three tariol fans.

The score was not indicative of how close it was.

It really got away from at the end.

That was not that should not have been a twenty six point game.

It was a one point game at halftime.

I thought, Duke despite their repeatedly shooting themselves in defeats, defeats, shooting themselves in the foot repeatedly.

In the first half, they were in that thing and it just got completely away from them.

Duke is not talented enough to take out a top ten team now like that and have five turnovers in the game.

Last year, they had success because they didn't beat themselves.

They didn't make a ton of mistakes, they didn't get all these penalties and drops in turnovers, and they had a really good year because they played within themselves.

That performance the other day with five turnovers was like pre Elco at the end of David Kuckliff when they couldn't stop turning the football over.

I can't look THEO and I are really good and they're the better team.

But Duke shouldn't have lost that game by twenty six.

That's an embarrassing final score for a team that should have been much more competitive than that by the end of the game.

Yeah, I mean, listen, I agree with you.

It is one that got away from him.

You know later in the game and the first half.

I thought Duke's defense was great.

I mean, Anthony had two and a half sacks in the first half the team had four sacks.

But I also thought that defense and probably because they're keep getting put it back out on the field because the balls being turned over, they probably wore down.

Yeah, but that defense did not affect Altmeyer at all in the second half, not anywhere near the way they did in the first half.

Yeah, you reminds of ridiculous plays too.

In the first half that got them the lead.

He had that one throw to the corner, he's good, that led to a touchdown.

But he made some plays right when Duke was about to get off the field.

A couple of times, Almeyer came up with some plazier like, oh geez, they were right there.

Speaker 1

He's field and.

Speaker 3

They're good, man.

I think they're really good.

Like I know a lot of people have been saying, ah, they're overrated all that.

Maybe they'll prove to be good if that's a veteran team.

Yeah, I kind of feel that way too.

Speaker 1

We'll see.

Speaker 3

I'm tired of that that.

I'm tired of Bela when the big mo that's what it is for you.

That's why you ain't taking this thing easily, is that Brent, big old Brent Beelima got you again.

Like he got the game cocks.

He's got a head like you would see like a like an a taxidermist office.

Speaker 4

He looks like the Wisconsin Badger mascot, Like he looks like a badger.

Speaker 1

He used to look like the Razorbacks.

Speaker 3

Think, yeah, I think he looks like a big old hog personally, I mean he is he is someone does he have like a is someone blowing him up with air, because it just seems like he's getting wider and wider every year.

Speaker 1

And he didn't.

Speaker 3

Seem like that he was doing the thing again with the defensive substitutions.

Speaker 1

Also, he's playing that chess game.

Speaker 3

Got you a delay a game because of how long it's came to put his players in.

Speaker 1

But I got to.

I mean, here's the thing though, bone Duke was so.

Speaker 3

Pathetic in terms of just fundamental stuff.

Mensa didn't protect the ball as good as Mensa is and and he has talent, there is no doubt about it, but he personally had three of the five turnovers they had one of the dumbest penalties ever.

Two number eights are on the field they got off the field and on the punt two number eights are on the field, so Illinois gets the ball back, goes down scores.

I also don't understand why they cut the game to nine in the third quarter and Manny Diaz says, let's go for two, y'all, let's go for it.

Speaker 1

Like I didn't.

Speaker 3

Understand what that was, because if you don't get it, then you're still down two scores.

I really didn't unders I just they had six penalties for sixty nine yards.

Like you said, Bone, they're not good enough to make all those mistakes and beat a team like Illinois.

They're not good enough to make all those mistakes and stay within three scores of Illinois, you know, Like, let's just call it what it is.

They could have played a perfect game and still might have lost a close one to Illinois.

But to compete, I think you're pot like to compete with a team like Illinois, You've got to you gotta really be buttoned up.

And Cooper Markate the wide receiver transfer from Harvard like he's good.

But I still wonder do they have enough at the wide out spot, enough playmakers to be as good as last year Jordan Moore was a really underrated guy.

Speaker 1

Overall.

Speaker 3

I wonder if they're gonna have trouble replacing him in sort of the safety valve and the big plays that he provided.

There's a lack of I think there's a lot of paint goals also not there anymore.

I wonder if there's just a lack of play Mensa can make all the throws?

Can these guys make the plays for I still worry about the running game three point two yards of carry.

I still wonder how good that running game is.

But anyway, I do Duke still a good team in my opinion, but that one got away from him.

NC States that was a thriller, Baby, that was a damn thrill.

Speaker 1

And I'm not gonna lie to you.

Speaker 3

N C States defense, especially in the first half, annoyed to living crap out of me.

I'm gonna lie to your bone you tire about a soft defense.

I got to look up how many times they blitz because it just didn't feel like much at all, felt like four man rush not getting there way too often.

Although I love the kid Harsh, I love the one of their transfers up front and the other transfer Bone Sloan made the game winning I int and the damn n zone.

I love the fact they ran the crap out of the ball Smothers is legit.

Man, that joy is good and State fans know, man, they don't.

They don't more often than not.

They can't run the ball that great, and they ran it really well, So that's encouraging.

Speaker 1

CJ.

Speaker 3

Bailey, I think is really good.

This was the type of game bone that we talked about before the season.

They got to win it with offense, man, and you and you saw it there, win it with offense and the defense makes like a couple of.

Speaker 1

Plays for you.

I think it was I think it was a good win.

Speaker 3

I think Virginia, like I said Friday, I think Virginia is sneaky, gonna give some teams some problems this year.

They've really upgraded a lot, as we saw the other day and now it's defense was a problem, but Virginia's really upgraded at a lot of skill positions, running the football, pass catchers, they Chandler Morris despite to play at the end.

Like, I think that's a that's a good win for State.

And I thought the same thing.

That's not gonna be the only game that's in the thirty five thirty one range for State thatcher that's gonna be kind of the way they're going to operate, which is different for a Dave Dorn football team.

Yeah, yeah, it is.

Man, He's got to embrace it.

You know that that's the way they have to win.

That's a little fear I have.

But big win for State.

But we got so much more to talk about app one.

Man, it shouldn't have been that close.

They barely won over Lindy would buy a touchdown you did, would play them better than Charlotte did.

Wake Forest in the old then and close Wake Forest in the not so fast Mac and Bone game of the week, beat the breaks off of Western team that Bone and I were touting could hang in the game.

Speaker 1

You're welcome to make it interesting.

Speaker 3

Can ECU bounce back from the loss to State against Campbell fifty six to three?

Speaker 1

Anyway, we got upsets.

Speaker 3

We got to talk about Freakingsissippi State and the cow Bells knocking off Arizona State.

We got to talk about Florida losing to South Florida.

South Florida's the team of the year Bone so far and that wins.

Miami's next for them coming up Sounds on the weekend.

Nick Saban talks nil money taking away the advantage for the SEC and the Panthers play reminds us it was only week one sports radiof.

Speaker 1

Do you feel like whatever issues.

Speaker 2

Do not, donaqui are those things that could be addressed in a week or two.

Speaker 3

Yeah?

Speaker 1

Yes, this week win.

Speaker 6

You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 7

I know what they feel like, just because we've been through the past couple of years.

It's like the end of the world.

But it's a week win and it's just a lot of team that's on win gwinn superbo or lose a super Bowl and we went so we just got to rally and get back to the drawing board and you know, go go ahead of Benis and Arizona.

Speaker 1

That is jac Horn.

Speaker 3

I'm sure that'll go over well with everybody reminding us it's week one.

It's true though, I mean, we're gonna freak out today and I'm right there with you.

Listen to the first segment of podcasts if you missed it, and you'll hear me freaking out.

I just this team hurts me so much.

And then we've got the Texters and that puts like I just I just hate it.

I hate having to do this on Mondays.

I hate having to watch it on Sundays.

I hate getting myself fired up Bone every preseason to a degree, to a degree, I haven't quite been like young Mac was when every year I thought it was a fifteen win season.

But like I allow myself Bone to be somewhat positive only to get smacked down by it inbsird opener.

So Jc's right, they got to get back to work.

But Panther fans are tired of hearing that stuff after week one because it looks like garbage every year.

Speaker 1

Bone.

Speaker 3

In the Bryce era, that's Frank Reich's one year and the two Canalis years, we've been outscored by an average of thirty two to ten in the openers and Bony we have scored literally ten points every game, ten points every game, and Bryce Young has I think three touchdowns and seven turnovers in those three games.

So make no mistake about it.

I'm going to tell you today that Bryce Young was horrible.

He was horrible.

Do we need to like conclude on this very morning that he is not the guy we got to move on?

Speaker 1

No, I don't think we do.

Speaker 3

That's the one difference I have with the Texters is I don't think we need to make that decision this morning.

But some of y'all made the decision long ago and you haven't changed it, even when he played good for ten games last year.

But he was terrible, and it's thoroughly disappointing for him to play that terrible.

Yeah, I just thoroughly disappointing and upsetting.

Certainly a regression from the last time we saw him in a game that mattered against that when he was playing with supreme confidence.

I can't believe that he had that in him to look that bad again, especially to start the year.

I thought whatever the issues were beginning of last year were rectified.

But I'm not gonna sit here and do what I did last year and sit here, I'm not saying Bryce isn't to blame and there's not concerned and stuff to work on.

But a year ago I said that Bryce was the worst trade in sports history, And by the end of the season, I'm sitting there going why why did I say that?

So forgive me if I'm not ready to count the kid out and do the same thing I did a.

Speaker 1

Year ago, it's a good point.

I was foolish about just.

Speaker 3

About every one of us had him counted out when he was benched last year and looked terrible.

I will say this, I don't think he looked as bad as the start of the season last year.

I'm ducking now though I'm ducking Texters.

But it was thoroughly disappointing.

And but he wasn't alone.

We got a guy on here telling us the defense wasn't bad and they gave up two hundred yards Russian.

So we're gonna have to talk through all this stuff.

It's upsetting.

It's very upsetting.

And again, guys on the same team here, we're all Panther fans, and we just want to win, all right, because I just I just sense all this infighting that we're going to be doing.

And it's just like, let's remember, we're all going through this horrendous stretch together.

Man, Seriously, we're all feeling the same freaking pain.

Speaker 1

All right.

I just want my man to dance.

Let's go.

Speaker 4

Uh.

Speaker 3

I was already had some moves choreographed and everything.

Dan, I just want to wear a thong again.

You know you still can't.

As a matter of fact, let me let me check it's still in the truck.

I mean, though he can't, I'll pull that thing off his little heinee if he has boned, if he tries to put that on after the way they played during Thong week, No, he probably needs to go commando is probably what he I didn't I love that.

I just meant if he's into thong.

Are you're just saying in general that can be your thing.

You said it's in your truck as they hanging from your mirror.

No, it's laying in the floorboard.

I had to drive some company around.

I don't want to see you get pulled over so bad, says a little me check.

Let me check your back.

Sleep there, man, I believe you've got some You've got some pictor.

Speaker 1

All right.

Speaker 3

Hey, I got good news, O Panta fans don't know why that's my cop boys?

Speaker 1

Hey, I got it.

Speaker 3

I got you there, Zallie King of the Hill fiddy.

I got good news, O Panta fans.

Pitty has not abandoned us?

Is that not good news?

Speaker 1

All right?

Speaker 3

Anyway, let's go due to time constraints, so let's move along more sounds of the sports weekend bone.

Let's start first with Nick Saban.

We promise you, Nick Saban, We'll give you a Nick Saban.

This is Friday on the pat McAfee show.

He basically is saying the NIL money has given the big tenant advantage over the SEC.

Speaker 1

Are y'all sad for them?

Speaker 2

The SEC was the SEC because of the culture in the South.

There wasn't professional football in the South for a long time, and everybody related to the colleges.

Okay, we talked about that before.

Well, now that doesn't matter.

I mean, kids grew up wanting to go to Ellishoe, kids grew up wanting to go to Alabama, kids grew up wanting to go to Georgia.

Got the money.

Now they don't mind going to Ohio State, they don't mind going to other places.

So that geographic advantage that the Southeast Conference had maybe changing changing a little bit now with a different culture with name, image and likeness and money involved in decision making, and I think that's created a little bit of an edge for the for the big ten man that is.

Speaker 3

So that's so sad, Dick Nick, I'm so sad for the SEC.

Y'all want to do a go fund me so that SEC schools can get money to get all their players back.

Speaker 1

Get it's seriously, get the hell out of here.

That's what you lost.

Speaker 3

Your men in trench coach in back alleys.

Yeah, it's funny, Like, I don't think y'all are poor.

I don't think SEC programs are poor here.

It's just maybe that someone else now is equal to you.

Yes, so maybe there's a few.

It's not every big ten program, but a few.

Maybe a few have money that is similar to y'all.

By the way, did Nick Saban just admit the key to his successful career right there?

Speaker 1

Is that?

Speaker 3

Like we always called Nick Saved a great recruiter.

Is he just admitting the key was that I was in SEC country where kids always just want to play for the SEC schools.

The kids wanted to play for LSU in Alabama?

Like, is that what he just conceded?

Speaker 1

There?

Speaker 3

Sounds like it to me.

Yeah, Well, god dang, anyway, I love it.

I love it more.

Parody in the sport is a good thing, and an il I believe has has done that.

There's a reason why I think Saturdays right now, Yeah, you might agree, are better than they've ever been before.

We can talk about the issues with the sport all day long, but the actual Saturday of them, man, and the further we go along into the season and more teams have a chance at that postseason.

It's why the sport has never been better.

In terms of Saturdays in the college football, I love them as long as the Panthers don't have a Saturday game.

I love Saturdays.

Let's uh last clip, Dan Lanning.

I knew this was coming because Dan Lanning is not afraid.

Remember what he told the shots he took a prime after whipping Colorado a couple of years back.

Speaker 1

Boat.

Speaker 3

He ain't afraid.

He ain't and I respect it.

He ain't afraid to say something.

And I also believe they put a little hot sauce on Oklahoma State.

I believe they wanted to hang a number on Oklahoma State after Mike Gundy complained about the money they don't have and the money Oregon has before the game, and Oregon goes out and beats him sixty nine to three.

And he did admit bone that he did address the Gundy comments with his team, and maybe they helped a little bit.

Speaker 1

I told our.

Speaker 6

Team right before the game that you know, it never requires extra motivation for an opportunity to go out and kick ass, but it never hurts when somebody pours gasoline on the fire.

So I felt like these guys wanted the chance to go prove who they are, and I you know, I'm sure I got a lot of respect for coaching Gundy, but I probably his press conference, he's probably saying, see, I told you so, right, Like that's probably what is common is but that doesn't change the way we have to play to be a winning a winning football team, and we have good players.

You know, one of our best I don't know, Bryce Betcher played good to day.

He came here for a backpack and the T shirt.

So I'm really proud of those guys on our team that you know, have developed into great players.

Again, the guys that watched other people play last year now playing for us, Like that's uh, that's what makes this team great.

Speaker 3

Do you think Mike Gundy knew an ass whooping was coming and made those comments as kind of an excuse out front?

Speaker 1

He probably think he knew.

I think he knew the ass whooping.

Speaker 3

I think he also knows that his days are also numbered, so have to be I mean, go ahead and find your media job, Mike Gundy, when you can break down football games while you're what what's the news channel he likes watching?

Remember that whole thing?

Oh, yeah, An News.

Oh ah, yeah, I get to maybe o an to make you the college football analysts.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 3

In fact, they only got out gained, they being Oklahoma State six hundred and thirty one to two eleven in the football game there.

They are horrible and they lost their starting quarterback.

Shout out to our guy likes the paycheck Bone.

He is the only Oklahoma State fan that I know.

My god, ye all in for a long season or likes the paycheck is a is an Oklahoma State slash Panther fan.

I'm praying for this man.

Oregon ran for eight point four yards of carry the other day.

Woo man, it's almos us the first down every run.

Hey, that's nothing.

Speaker 2

Uh.

Speaker 3

Jacksonville ran for ten point four in the first half the other day yesterday, I guess it was.

It all comes back to that when we come back on the Mack and Bone Show, the Panthers blasted and yet another season opener.

Where is the anger directed?
