Episode Transcript
All right, let's bring in on our next guest, who probably has to endure too much.
Now, he probably doesn't want it the way folks wont it down here, Zach Gelb joins us back for another Friday.
We got to say goodbye to the Panthers in the playoffs, and we've got to analyze these playoff games this weekend with Gelby.
Zach Gelb joins this.
Plus we're going to tell you what he's up to.
He's got brand new, brand new stuff going on.
Gelby.
How you feeling, man, what's happening?
Speaker 2Mac Bone?
I'm doing incredible.
By the way, I'm doing a Compass Media Networks game for Duke NC on February seventh.
That I haven't really done my preparation for the Tar Heels, but I know they lost two out of three.
What's going on with them?
Speaker 3They forgot how to play defense when they came back from the holidays.
And by the way, when you do that, don't went to unc fans bully on Twitter.
It's not they're not.
They're not all good people, Zach, So be careful with these with these guys.
Speaker 2Well, well, hold on, hold on hold.
I've been doing this show now for what four years.
Yes, and I've had the Texters say the those ridiculous things about me just because they're upset that I tell the truth about the Panthers.
And you think I'm gonna allow those Targel fans so bully me if I survived the Panthers fans.
Sorry, I'm not really concerned about the thought.
Speaker 3Now they bully me quite a bit, That's all I'm saying.
By the way, Mack, you you brought Zach on, Well, you you got to mention where where Zach is working.
Now we have a little bit of a question about where Zach is working at.
Speaker 4Do you have the information?
Speaker 1Well, hold on, I was just gonna hold on.
Speaker 2I have a big bet here, I had it at minus seven fifty that Ma's not going to get this right.
I have a lot of money down on this.
Speaker 4I was just gonna ask you to explain to us.
Speaker 3We said to Zach during the break that we've told Mac four times where he works now, and we don't know if he has it.
Speaker 4My pen ran out of ink when I was writing it down.
Speaker 1At one point, said CBS sixty five Sports.
Speaker 4I don't know why, I said CBS.
Speaker 1That was before three sixty five sports.
Speaker 4I can't read the rest.
I'm sorry.
Key, let me tell you.
Speaker 2I heard City in the background and the news room before I got on boom.
Make sure you tell the old man that he gets the gig right, because he's definitely gonna f it up, So help me back Monday through Friday from two to four pm Eastern Time, fun digital interactive show.
Obviously all on YouTube, so make sure you check it out and then still do in the studio gig play app and post college basketball football and Dallas Cowboys as well.
Speaker 4You know, jack asses had to embarrass me.
Speaker 1You couldn't just let me tee him up and say, Glby, where's this where we find you?
Speaker 4Guys?
Speaker 3I said, to embarrass my ass, I said, Mac, do you have the information?
Speaker 4Do you have it?
Do you have it?
Speaker 3Do you have three sixty five Rugue media?
You came back with CBS.
Speaker 2He doesn't even exist anymore.
Speaker 1Guys, My bad Glby, my man, But you guys are bad people, bad people.
Speaker 4Damn it, Shelby, What did you think, Gilby?
Speaker 2If there is a memory law pill that wants to sponsor this show, you may have a good guy to endore.
Speaker 1Seriously, I mean, you make me remember stuff.
The bone just don't be five seconds before and I love you for life.
Right now, I have a pen.
Look at that bone.
Speaker 4Look my pen.
Glby, What what.
Speaker 2You had for dinner last night?
Speaker 4I can't remember that chicken?
Chicken?
I chicken?
Alright, stop clesing my ass all right?
Gelby?
Speaker 2What did you are your underwear right now?
Speaker 4Did you think?
How do you know I'm wearing them?
Oh?
Speaker 2God, no, wonder where that studio thick?
Speaker 4Oh man?
Glby?
Speaker 1What did you think about the Panthers performance against the Rams?
How should we feel after that one?
Speaker 2I thought it was a respectable performance, you know, especially with what happened at the end of the game.
Obviously you hope that Stafford and Parkinson don't hook up at the end and then you get, you know, a Panther's victory.
But that's just the way that cookie crumbled.
I think if you're a Panthers fan, you're proud of this season.
I know that there could be some people be like, hey, Zach, you know, they were eight and nine in the regular season, but for where this team's been for the last half decade, that was a step in the right direction.
And you go into this offseason now with some optimism and they should be aggressive this offseason and next year.
When you look at the state of this division where Tampa Bay obviously is having turnover.
The Falcons, we don't even know who their coaching quarterback is going to be.
You look around in this division and you say to yourself, in the Saints, you know, I don't know if they have their damn act together either that if you could go nine wins next year or maybe ten and have a two win improvement, that you'll that this team could have some consistency and that this team is actually moving in the right direction instead of it just being one thought, Okay, we think we may be going there, and the next year it starts going the other way.
Speaker 3Do you think that Bryce has played well enough to be the guy for the long haul for the Panthers.
Speaker 2No, but I don't mean that in a negative way.
I've said this before.
It's this is just one of those things where you pick up the fifth year option.
You don't get stupid.
I don't care what his agent demands.
I don't care what he demands.
This is you gotta prove it.
You don't want to be like to a tonguea bailoa with the Miami Dolphins when there were signs that this guy was not the guy.
Bryce had a good season.
Let's not take that away from Let's be clear about that.
He had a good season and how he es salvaged it last year, and then he had a good, solid season this year.
Don't get stupid this offseason and give him fifty to fifty five million dollars a year.
Stay the course, let him play out this year.
If if, if, next year he likes the world on fire and he deserves the contract.
I get at that contract next year, but there is no reason to do anything this off season when it comes to the quarterback contract instead of just pick up the fifth year options.
Speaker 1Definitely agree with you on that right, But I agree with you.
I think that's fair.
Gelby this weekend, Bone and I both like both underdogs in the AFC, the Bills and the Texans.
Speaker 4Would you push back on either one of those?
What do you think?
Speaker 2I agree with you, guys With the Bills, I'm actually going to the Texans Patriots game.
Talking about potentially being out there in the snow.
You know, I'm a tough guy.
I'll be in my car, I'll be driving there and then when the game ends, I'll be driving back and all that stuff back to New York.
I think the Patriots are gonna win.
It would have surprised me the Texans do win.
C J.
Stroud, I think just a big moment for him because the last two years, even though it's been great, they've been in the postseason, they get to the second round and they've shown limitations.
The Texans defense is unbelievable with Anderson and Hunter and Singly.
We know that.
But I just trust your local guy in Drake May even though he didn't play great last week, but he made a big throw a Hunter Henry when he needed to, just to be slightly better on the offensive end than c J.
Shroud.
So I think we're gonna see Bills and Patriots Part three, where those two teams split this year earlier.
Speaker 3What do you think about Rams Bears the late game on Sunday?
Apparently now we have some vitriol, some unrest between McVeigh and Ben Johnson based off the way Ben Johnson handled things with four last week.
What do you think about this match up in and how entertaining could this game be between these two?
Speaker 2So let me ask you guys this because you guys have no dog in the fight right with the Bears.
Do you guys like Ben Johnson?
Speaker 4I love I love this.
Speaker 3He's got a lot more personality than I thought he was gonna have.
Speaker 4I love this dude.
I love his fire.
Speaker 1He's he's because he's the rare, sharp, offensive whiz kid that also has this like fire about him.
Speaker 4You know, Yeah, he's got that dog in him.
I kind of like him, do you not?
Speaker 2So in the Offenson I hated him.
I said, I have the coaching ick with him with how much mack he was talking.
And then after they the Packers, they come on back an organization that's embarrassed him for years.
He's starting beef, which goes back to offseason with the head coach, and then gets in the locker room and says, truck, I can't say the word obviously on the radio the Bears, I mean the Packers.
And then I sat there and I said, all these coaches are buttoned up.
You know, I'm gonna be a part where I hate him once again, but I kind of liked it.
When it comes to this game this weekend, I'm gonna see.
I was in Philly last year where the Rams played the Eagles and they almost beat them, and it was in the snow, And I wonder how the Rams are gonna play outdoors.
But with Stafford and Tyron Williams and Pukakua and Devonte Adams and also that defense, I think the Bears are gonna are gonna go out this weekend.
Just spreads three and a half.
I probably plus the three and a half points if I'm being honest, But I think the Rams are gonna win this game, probably by a field goal.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, that's probably I don't I don't mind that play at all, getting at three in a hook.
I will say this about the Rams defense.
I mean, they ranked seventeenth and EPA per play, They ranked seventeenth in total defense, and you saw it.
The Panthers put up thirty one on them in both games.
Like that defense is gettable, man.
Speaker 2And you know what they do have good You know they have good players on that defense.
But yeah, you would expect a little bit more out of them.
With that being said, though, I wonder how you guys will spin this, because you guys always have a good spin.
Are you guys out rooting for the Ram You beat them once, then you lost to them, But if the Rams go on to win the Super Bowl, you could say that you slit with the Super Bowl champs?
Is that what you guys are doing?
Speaker 4How do you snuffed out mac on all?
You tell me so well, I.
Speaker 1Just I'm two hours removed from that whole spiel of how I want the Rams to win it all.
Speaker 2Now, Golby, and I was clinking when you went on that spiel, so I didn't even know that.
Speaker 3Bro.
Speaker 4You know me too well.
Speaker 1Any chance I can get to have Ammo in the Panthers are on the come up?
Speaker 4Baby, You know what I mean I'm going to do.
Speaker 2I'll tell you this, It's going to be really awkward if the Rams loose this weekend and in some third world country there's a Panther Super Bowl championship brawl that was going to be made for city.
If the Rams won it all to jump up and down into a victory day.
Speaker 3I'm kind of rooted for the Bills and the Bears to get there.
Those fan bases, they're kind of tortured souls.
I know the Bears have one in the eighties, but I kind of want to see the Bills.
Speaker 4And the Bears fan bases gets the Super.
Speaker 2Bowl remember a few years ago when it was like we almost got a Bill's Brown's AFC championship games.
Oh yeah, where Mahomes got hurt?
I think it was Chad Heniwett to come on in and complete that out route to Tyreek Hill.
Like if you would have got Bills and Browns an AFT championship game, I would have just loved to have gone to see outside the stadium after the game.
If you get kills in Bears.
With the way those two fan bases have been tortured, we may just want to go to San Francisco, not get a ticket in, just see what happens after the game.
Speaker 4Gelby, I have to ask you.
Speaker 1I never thought I would have you on during the NFL playoffs and ask you a baseball question, But I'm curious your take on this.
The freaking Dodgers have done it again, and Fidy and Fitty you probably man too.
Fiddy's all furious from a Mets fan standpoint, Kyle Tucker two in a forty million dollar deal over four years, does this Dodger stuff tick you off?
Speaker 2I respect?
It isn't this what we want all of our teams to do.
Just just be the the the villain the the the Empire, the evil fill in the evil Empire, and just spend and spend and spend.
And even when we went back to back championships, that's not good enough.
We got to go out there and get it with the Es.
We got to go out there and get Kyle Tucker.
I consider I could bitch it.
I co could play in and I could say the deferred money and all the things that baseball needs to change.
Uh, but the Dodgers found the loopholes in the system.
And I'm not going to crush them for taking advantage of it.
Because my owner and Steve Cohens, who once meent like one hundred and fifty million dollars on some stupid pointing man statue, he has more money than anyone could could understand.
So if someone wants to take advantage of their resources, I'm not going to crush them for it.
I actually respect what the Dodgers are doing.
Speaker 3Jim Bowden, former executive and Baseball term media member, said this morning that the Dodgers essentially ended the sport last night as we know it, that there's no doubt going to be a workstoppage of some sorts or changes in twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 2Well, there was going to be a work stoppage anyway, even before the Dodgers did this, because the commissioner wants to create and the owners want to create a salary cap, but they don't want to have a floor, So there is there's going to be a work stoppage anyway.
And honestly, I'm concerned.
I know it's right America's pastime, but let's be real, football's out taking this time college and NFL.
I am concerned for the future of Major League Baseball because it's in a better thought right now.
But if you spit in our faces again like the commissioner did, and I can't stand this commissioner, and he knows I don't like him, and I know he knows I don't like him because he's heard my rants during the pandemic and it got back to me that he wasn't happy with me.
He did during the pandemic was disgraceful.
And then you take it all these years later.
U.
If we're sitting here and we miss games, I think you're gonna lose a lot of fans.
Yeah, Christopher Matt dog Russo once went on a rant.
You know everyone's killing the Commissioner Adam Shine Zach Keel, but I tacked the dog and I'm like, how does my name come out of your mouth?
There?
And he goes, the big fella has hurt your rant.
Speaker 1Yeah, Delby, I like you when you stir it up, baby, all right, and Gelby is now stirring it up.
Speaker 4You can listen to him stir it up on what is it.
Speaker 2In the year.
Speaker 4Three sixty five?
That's right, baby?
Thing four sports?
Speaker 2Who's your favorite talk shows?
Zach?
But what's your favorite time slot?
Monday two to four PM's time?
Speaker 3There?
Speaker 4I go, there, you go, baby.
There.
Speaker 3You guys said Gelb yesterday, we're going to promote heavily your new uh endeavor here and Mac.
Speaker 4Set me up to that one.
And you know what about that time that was on you?
Speaker 1At that point I realized I still can't say, Mac.
Speaker 4You know Gelby?
Speaker 2What this would be like?
This would be like if I didn't even acknowledge you guys were on FM and only said you guys were on AM.
Speaker 1I know, I apologize, you're very supportive of us, Gelby the big national star you are.
Speaker 4I should not have acted.
Speaker 2Like this, you know what, Mac, I wouldn't want it any other way.
Speaker 4I want you to screw it up all the time.
Speaker 2I'm now happy on a Friday.
Speaker 4I'm glad.
I'm glad.
Speaker 1All Right, Gelby enjoyed a football brother.
We'll talk to you.
Speaker 2You got it, Guys, be well,
