Episode Transcript

[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast.

[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to Forty K.

Lorca, John Barsadian, Brad Chester.

[SPEAKER_00]: This guy.

[SPEAKER_00]: Today, we're continuing our coverage of the 18th Legion with really kind of an all-volcano episode.

[SPEAKER_00]: So get ready for a lot of dying.

[SPEAKER_01]: And coming back, I just want to say, whoa, whoa, whoa, don't say that he's not coming back.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's the most important part of Volkid is he's coming back.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, welcome to an episode brought to you by the movie Highlander.

[SPEAKER_01]: Well, well, well, that's really cool that I lent her.

[SPEAKER_01]: He just keeps, so I get it really smoked 100%.

[SPEAKER_01]: It would have been cooler if he gave the speech.

[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think Highlander was better written than some of this stuff.

[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen your Highlander Ricky Bobby, and it was sheets.

[SPEAKER_00]: We could be shift still better than some of the writing we're going to cover today.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, 40K Lorcaz, weekly show, folks in the Lord of the Warhammer 40K universe, releasing every Monday at 7 p.m.

Eastern.

[SPEAKER_00]: Please follow on the comment the cast.

[SPEAKER_00]: They really do help our algorithm not a lot.

[SPEAKER_00]: It pushes us out to more listeners.

[SPEAKER_00]: I know you all been doing it, and I know it's kind of neatest.

[SPEAKER_00]: This point like, [SPEAKER_00]: yelling at people who are saying, yeah, yeah, I know.

[SPEAKER_00]: I already do that every week.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so I guess I should say, hey, thank you for all the comments and the follows.

[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's a true thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's somebody.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so proud of you, Bonnie.

[SPEAKER_00]: I just got back from boozey-lunch.

[SPEAKER_00]: So this will be interesting.

[SPEAKER_01]: Boozey-lunch.

[SPEAKER_01]: We should compare on that.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: I ate chicken, rice, and broccoli.

[SPEAKER_00]: I had like a leader of beer and it was a pretty good chicken sandwich.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, man.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's jealousy is so high right now.

[SPEAKER_01]: But for the bread alone.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: I went to the place you've been to that's good.

[SPEAKER_00]: Ravioli.

[SPEAKER_00]: That is courtesy of you.

[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.

[SPEAKER_00]: And your new silly act diagnosis.

[SPEAKER_00]: I decided not to have Ravioli before speaking to you because even that feels mean.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's so good, deal.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's the, this is the thing, people like, oh yeah, when you get old, you give up carbs.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm Italian.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's not really an option now.

[UNKNOWN]: Like.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'll give up alcohol.

[SPEAKER_00]: I might even give up sugar.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not giving up carbs.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's just, no, no more, no more review only.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: Good to hear.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, anyway, in the show is a link to our Patreon.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to help us out, we'd appreciate it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Massive thank you to everyone who has.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's how we're expanding into our YouTube, which I somehow skipped over.

[SPEAKER_00]: We also have that.

[SPEAKER_00]: But, Massive, thank you to all our people who are here with the Patreon.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Patreon has been a massive help for us as we try to expand ourselves out in other areas.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Patreon allows us to do things like higher audio engineers, higher other engineers, which frees up some of our times so we can look at other types of content creation for you all.

[SPEAKER_00]: So, Massive, thank you to the people who are here with the Patreon.

[SPEAKER_00]: With the Patreon, you get our show and the history of 40K ad free.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's $4.99 a U.S.

or 1143 Fujian.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to go ahead now.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go a little diatribe of how much I love Fiji.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I, for those who didn't know, I've played rugby for close to 10 years.

[SPEAKER_00]: I played out in California with a largely tongue and team, but also their Fujians and the team.

[SPEAKER_00]: one day I decided to go to Fiji for vacation and yeah, Fiji's awesome.

[SPEAKER_00]: Holy God awesome.

[SPEAKER_00]: First off, some of the best like weather I've had, more importantly though, I'm a scuba diver, all the scuba diving in Fiji.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now, two fun stories just about Fiji.

[SPEAKER_00]: Story number one, I'm a little bit afraid of flying and flying, I fly from my job, I'm not a huge fan of it, I don't like turbulence.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm on an airplane that they get on the airplane they had to weigh us, and that would determine where we would sit on set airplane, always a wonderful thing, and all of a sudden I'm flying on the airplane at VG, and the plane starts shaking, and I go, oh, is it turbulence?

[SPEAKER_00]: And I look up, because this plane, you know, it's a propeller plane.

[SPEAKER_00]: I can see into the cockpit, and we're shaking because the pilot is having lunch, and he's flying the airplane with his knee.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I can't say anything, because I don't want to die, but I'd appreciate that.

[SPEAKER_00]: But the other one, my favorite time at all of Fiji was I was there primarily as they're mostly the scuba dive.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we go out for a shark dive.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it's cage free shark dive.

[SPEAKER_00]: And they do these like shark feeds.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're kind of, they're cool.

[SPEAKER_00]: So [SPEAKER_00]: They drop a basket down full of fish heads, sharks come through and you feed the sharks.

[SPEAKER_00]: So they get to see them really up close.

[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, the guy doing it is having time as like because mostly bull sharks.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like holding the fish head in front of the bull shark and the bull sharks kind of like going after.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like a dog goes after food for playing with them.

[SPEAKER_00]: Fun, hilarious.

[SPEAKER_00]: I've got eight foot bull sharks going right to come with feed of my head.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's cool.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know where all the bull sharks leave, which is never a good thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: and a maybe 14-foot female tiger shark shows up and I get to watch a dude effectively crap himself in front of all of us because he realizes he smells like dead fish.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's holding dead fish.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's in a basket of dead fish and those a 14-foot tiger there.

[SPEAKER_00]: I, which also not like dead fish.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't smell like dead fish, not pretty far away from the basket, so I just get the sit there and watch.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was enjoyable.

[SPEAKER_00]: He effectively threw fish heads into the tiger's shark's open mouth until she was full in left.

[SPEAKER_00]: The other part of that story is we then surfaced from that dive, and I look over, and maybe that's in a mile away, because we're at that far up, maybe further up, we've been later on on the ride.

[SPEAKER_00]: We get backwards to coastline.

[SPEAKER_00]: Fiji, if you like surfing, has some of those best barrels in the world for surfing.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm thinking to myself, so those dudes are barrel surfing, and we're not far from one of the largest tiger sharks I've seen in my life.

[SPEAKER_00]: Good luck.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anna.

[SPEAKER_00]: with.

[SPEAKER_00]: But after that, always like a pop art discord, last thing I want to do, for those who haven't joined the link in the show notes, please come join our discord.

[SPEAKER_00]: Great place to talk to us about stuff, ask questions, get advice, books, literature.

[SPEAKER_00]: We actually pull a lot of these shows, come out of discord.

[SPEAKER_00]: People just push me hard enough.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I go, yeah, yeah, fair enough.

[SPEAKER_00]: Salamanders can't really be sure that in a while ago, we were waiting on a codex that [SPEAKER_00]: I always think our moderators, Doc, Ars, Tobah, Zemsta, Herschmitt, Tyrant, Salarsia, Kathulu, Query, J, Maestro, Steve, Gers, Nougals, Awargamon, Twin, Curl, Slenex, and Silva.

[SPEAKER_00]: You guys are amazing.

[SPEAKER_00]: They are the reason why the discord is organized.

[SPEAKER_00]: If I did it, it might be alphabetical.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm being honest, and it would be pretty bad.

[SPEAKER_00]: So these people have done an incredible job, so thank you all for doing it.

[SPEAKER_00]: It really is quite meaningful to me.

[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Vulkan.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's not the coolest, but he's not the way missed.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's kind of a good, I will keep my round-prime mark.

[SPEAKER_01]: Also, in the beginning, John has a title.

[SPEAKER_01]: Vulkan has arrived as opposed to Vulkan lives, which is the title of a book.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it is, but we're dealing with Vulcan as a ride, because this point he's arrived.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's also living both of those are correct, technically.

[SPEAKER_01]: The best gift of correct.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that anyway.

[SPEAKER_00]: So Vulcan's arrival, actually, into the 18th Legion, is delayed.

[SPEAKER_00]: Rather than rush to join, he just spent next few years at the Emperor's side.

[SPEAKER_01]: You know what, screw this?

[SPEAKER_00]: Because he's a nerd.

[SPEAKER_01]: One of us is a nerd, no.

[SPEAKER_01]: If the emperor didn't go, hey son, high five figure life out what I want you to do, maybe if more people spend a little bit of time with old dad figuring out how things go down, maybe we wouldn't have so many problems.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, counterpoint.

[SPEAKER_00]: what did dad teach him stuff nothing of value thank you anyway this was like the emperor treats the primarks as a dad who has minimal custody and doesn't even want that right yes you're the weekend just to tell you how much he doesn't like mom's new boyfriend yeah [SPEAKER_00]: That's the emperor.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's no actual takes are we going to play catch now mom's new boyfriend I'll do that.

[SPEAKER_00]: I guess stuff to do here.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's the TV have a good day.

[SPEAKER_00]: Not wrong.

[SPEAKER_00]: Not wrong.

[SPEAKER_00]: All the Vulcan really does this in this time to be fair is he just fights by the Emperor's side.

[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, and this one cracks me out because he's a massive nameless warrior in Emerald scaled armor.

[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, that is the understatement of the world.

[SPEAKER_01]: You know, hey, man, I'm slightly taller than Brad.

[SPEAKER_01]: Understand it.

[SPEAKER_01]: If you're a heel giant, that is a fake understatement.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's big for primarks.

[SPEAKER_01]: Let alone everyone around him.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's the second largest human-ish being in the galaxy behind the Emperor.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's bigger than Valdor, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's the most of the drawings.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's about a head taller than the rest of the primaries.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: So he stands out.

[SPEAKER_00]: He spends this time, it's really called him a nerd earlier, it was he spends basically diagnosing and dissecting all of the imperial war machines, learning how they all work, honestly, all the equipment, really becoming a master of imperial technology.

[SPEAKER_00]: He spends even with mechanics this time, learning about the weapon rates available, and then adding to it, saying, well, hey, why don't you do this?

[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, you could add this piece [SPEAKER_01]: which I really want, one of the reasons I want Vulcan to come back is because we're in the dark age of the war and everything.

[SPEAKER_01]: And we've got all this superstition and everything on it.

[SPEAKER_01]: But Vulcan at this point in time is understanding ancient technology, like golden age of technology type of technology, almost immediately.

[SPEAKER_01]: He needs to hang out with it for a second and he gets it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but never get back to some of the lane crap.

[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know what?

[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, well, well, well, Brad, too much positivity.

[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get back to her, baby.

[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get puppy dog, Brad, is ready to go on this one, baby.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so he learns and sees how the Emperor wants to wage war.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then Vulcan makes his own kind of tactical adjustments.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he starts telling the mechanic, I'm, hey, I want you to make a weapon.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you're making the plaza blast for this way.

[SPEAKER_00]: Make it for me this way.

[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, none of this exists in a tabletop.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, if Salamiders use the same crap everybody else uses.

[SPEAKER_01]: There's that rules.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but in the past, they did translate better because they had better flamers and meltoes.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the flamers went, had better reach, right, in the meltoes.

[SPEAKER_01]: They did, they had re-rolls on damage, and they had plus one, and they had plus one, a wound with flamers and meltoes.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's what it was.

[SPEAKER_00]: That was really solid.

[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, they had some moments.

[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, Vulcan also at this time meets Ferris Manus and they forged together.

[SPEAKER_00]: They don't have a forge off like Ferris in the foreground, but they totally forge because of course.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's just, again, we have too many primarks.

[SPEAKER_00]: Just too many legions, just too many primarks.

[SPEAKER_01]: really won't get away from that.

[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, let it go.

[SPEAKER_00]: I've heard them letting me cover them all and I go to and I go to write an episode and like, did I write this before?

[SPEAKER_00]: When did we cover this before?

[SPEAKER_00]: And I go, oh, no, it's just word, it's almost verbatim from the codex.

[SPEAKER_00]: But while he's doing this, at the same time, nocturn is being converted to a recruiting world for the 18th.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's a secret to everybody, but the people there, Vulcan, the emperor's retinue, so basically everyone bought the 18th legion and some administrators nurses coming on.

[SPEAKER_00]: So, [SPEAKER_00]: at, well, they can very knock you know, although it's a pretty cool conversion.

[SPEAKER_00]: The salamanders, what this point of guess are the salamanders, I don't even know where the change is named.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but once we get into this time, they were just gonna see salamanders, because they were the 18th Legion of the Dragon Warriors, but they're just, we're salamanders, my no.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're going back to the amphibians who, again, because that's not a reptile.

[SPEAKER_00]: Salamanders, it's an amphibian.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of a lame one.

[SPEAKER_01]: Salamanda, ah.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's just, I love how much people love salamanders.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, have you seen a salamander?

[SPEAKER_00]: Donna, the kind of squishy.

[SPEAKER_00]: Did you just make sure it's right?

[SPEAKER_00]: That's a gecko.

[SPEAKER_01]: Get close enough.

[SPEAKER_00]: Nope.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's an amphibian.

[SPEAKER_00]: You were wrong on species.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's a green drawing of a guy, he can be whatever I want him to be.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's literally called the guy called Gecko.

[SPEAKER_01]: about the way you're welcome.

[SPEAKER_01]: I was waiting.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just like, we can do this.

[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes you get a soft fall of the lady.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was not a hard hit.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, while they're there, I'm going to cool things and we'll touch on this more as we get through this.

[SPEAKER_00]: These salamanders will separate themselves out from other legions.

[SPEAKER_00]: They have a large affinity towards the human population there.

[SPEAKER_00]: Most of these recruiting worlds when we covered it like with blood angels, we covered this with world leaders are a little bit rough, but most of them, Fenris, the people there compete in a competition and if they can win the competition, then they will maybe see in a startys, who will then take them away.

[SPEAKER_00]: But the startys live over there.

[SPEAKER_00]: Are you up on the top of Mount Doom or whatever it's going to be?

[SPEAKER_00]: They're far away.

[SPEAKER_00]: These elementers wander around.

[SPEAKER_01]: see, I think this is one of the biggest, one of the reasons I really liked them, and when I'm looking at my good guy saying, one, they're one of the chapters that's always been about being four of the people.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like, for we did, we talked about the fist, the fist or for the hearing.

[SPEAKER_00]: Remember that later.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, you have the one thing they do, whatever.

[SPEAKER_01]: So the Salamander, the second one wasn't real.

[SPEAKER_01]: The second one.

[SPEAKER_01]: The Salamanders are really big about protecting the populist, but not only the being for the populist of the Imperium, but also they think it's a very big deal to walk amongst the people, to understand the people.

[SPEAKER_01]: The Salamanders will be with [SPEAKER_01]: There's peep, there's just Marines walking around our turn.

[SPEAKER_01]: They have regular people.

[SPEAKER_01]: They just interact with the regular populace.

[SPEAKER_01]: And they are almost unique.

[SPEAKER_01]: There's some other people that are doing something similar.

[SPEAKER_01]: But most of it, they are the chapter that is known for interacting with the mortals, the most and understanding what's going on with them.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it's a really, it is very unique.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's something that when Brad never talked about it, I was like, oh crap, this actually is a huge difference.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because when we discuss most of the space marine legends, it's not that they look down their nose, some do, but it's not that they look down their nose, a human humanity.

[SPEAKER_00]: They just look at humanity, go, oh yeah, they're also here.

[SPEAKER_00]: And they can then go on in their own path.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Salamander is genuinely interact with them.

[SPEAKER_00]: The people of Nocturn spend time with space marine, [SPEAKER_00]: do.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: Which, oh, God, definitely share a bathroom.

[SPEAKER_00]: All the time, put the experience on poop.

[SPEAKER_00]: Never mind your fun.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's hilarious.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry about that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Peter, yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: If those who don't know it in the podcast, yes, space Marines, they're digestive system is perfect.

[SPEAKER_00]: So they actually nothing leaves their body.

[SPEAKER_00]: They have no waste.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's one of the implants.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what implant that is.

[SPEAKER_00]: You who doesn't have that implant?

[SPEAKER_00]: Right.

[SPEAKER_01]: If only if only baby, [SPEAKER_00]: You just didn't add acid in point.

[SPEAKER_01]: I just didn't.

[SPEAKER_01]: I would have my GI system taken out and replaced by something.

[SPEAKER_01]: That's the upside of the heady kelly conservator.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't have this anymore.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's a pretty big selling point.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm in.

[SPEAKER_00]: Tell me more about this sarcophagus.

[SPEAKER_00]: While all this is going on, nocturns being built up, Vulcan is hanging out with the Emperor, the actual 18th Legion is getting as far-up shits creak as you pop.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's getting smoke.

[SPEAKER_01]: They weren't wrong.

[SPEAKER_01]: You made fun of it as far as the big characters that were worried about the salamanders.

[SPEAKER_01]: Basically, being so sacrificial, they were going to kill themselves out of existence.

[SPEAKER_01]: They're kind of doing that right now.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, this is a very moment, that's exactly what they're doing.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, so on this, let's talk about that.

[SPEAKER_00]: As we talked about last week, the 18th Legion was kind of put into more of a rear guard action.

[SPEAKER_00]: They were just too small.

[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, they still did this day or one of the smallest legions.

[SPEAKER_00]: They've always struggled with this problem, but...

[SPEAKER_00]: As is rear guard, because they were just too small to be deployed solo to a sector, but they're really good at devastating their opponents.

[SPEAKER_00]: So they're great for like local infrastructure, these kind of like smaller engagements.

[SPEAKER_00]: The problem with being the rear guard action.

[SPEAKER_00]: faction or chapter is as the great crusade is progressing and progressing, the size of like the rear is getting larger and larger.

[SPEAKER_00]: And at a certain point, it becomes actually almost an issue where you need a full chapter to defend this area.

[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what happened before anyone could do anything.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because as more as the appearing spreading further and further out, [SPEAKER_00]: more and more incursions are incurring.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're getting rebellions and we're getting Zenos.

[SPEAKER_00]: Zenos being the bigger issue.

[SPEAKER_00]: So add a nowhere, a large or concurition hits an area called the Tarras division section.

[SPEAKER_01]: Why are they too close to Sol and they didn't make a big [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's just the low soul and the timing is bad.

[SPEAKER_00]: The incursion happens right as the great crusades running into issues, not chorus heresy issues, but issues.

[SPEAKER_00]: You've got the ragdand, start rampaging, end up in the halo, start the things.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is like during the second ragdand, zero side.

[SPEAKER_00]: You've got the Eastern fringe where they're just bouncing into all of the Zenos.

[SPEAKER_01]: And also got to say all the former colonies, too.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the former, we're not just a former, we're always bouncing into former colonies.

[SPEAKER_01]: These are the play the technologically superior old colonies, where they're still using them.

[SPEAKER_01]: We got into some big wars.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and so it ends up occurring, unfortunately, but unsurprisingly, is as this orconcursion is going, there are no forces that can really be shared with the 18th.

[SPEAKER_00]: And even if they're were, they're all out in the front lines.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're way too far away.

[SPEAKER_00]: So the 18th are just kind of stuck.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now, this orc incursion, it's not a wall, but it's still big.

[SPEAKER_00]: The orcs had originally arrived on space hulks, just kind of warping and going, all right.

[SPEAKER_00]: And this is when the orcs managed to use this day, these rocks, which is an asteroid that they'll either hide in or just fling at things that take out imperial defenses.

[SPEAKER_00]: And the 18th Legion, [SPEAKER_00]: are stuck.

[SPEAKER_00]: And they've about 20,000 of them is all there is.

[SPEAKER_00]: Remember, like, at this stage before the ride, the darkings were about 150,000, you know, the Ultramarines, I don't know if the two other legions have been folded into the Ultramarines yet, but they were literally gigantic at the time.

[SPEAKER_00]: But most of the leaves are 60,000 plus.

[SPEAKER_00]: These guys are at 20.

[SPEAKER_00]: So they're very small, Legion.

[SPEAKER_00]: So they go to assist these imperial zones there.

[SPEAKER_00]: And they decide because they are the 18th Legion, that their purpose is going to be to preserve life.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's that's their number one goal here.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right.

[SPEAKER_00]: life and actually technology.

[SPEAKER_00]: So you'll did appreciate the imperium.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so they're going to try and make as few casualties as possible for their local population.

[SPEAKER_00]: So they focus on bits of the evacuation.

[SPEAKER_00]: Saying look, we can't stop the works, but we can get you all out of here and slow them down a little bit.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I start building these defensive outposts everywhere.

[SPEAKER_00]: They provide protection as we exit the world.

[SPEAKER_01]: Well, here's one of the problems with it.

[SPEAKER_01]: I love me some salamanders, but they should have like done some strike and fade into the shadows.

[SPEAKER_01]: It.

[SPEAKER_01]: Right.

[SPEAKER_01]: Cowardly style, as you put it.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: Also, what does the notes say?

[SPEAKER_00]: Suck it, Ravenguard.

[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no.

[SPEAKER_00]: This was really, because it's, yeah, they strike.

[SPEAKER_00]: They could have struck from the shadows and then retreated like cowards, which is what the Ravenguard would want to do.

[SPEAKER_01]: They were winning these occasions, but instead of just taking off, they were doing slow retreats to cover the evacuation of civilians.

[SPEAKER_01]: So they were just taking casualties because they were sitting and letting you know, if you sit and talk shit in front of Orcs, Orcs will find out and come fight.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this is the bigger problem.

[SPEAKER_00]: The other thing is I'm not sure if the impair even understood this at this point that the more you fight or the more draw it is for orcs.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so if you go to engage with orcs, your best option is I run the Ravenguard thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: Little cowardly actions where you run away could make the orcs bored or you have to remove them.

[SPEAKER_00]: And that Salamers didn't have the numbers for the second one, so all that they were actually doing was bringing more works to the fight.

[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, they were killing tons of them, but even more we're showing them.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they were riling up to Hornets Nest and they were bringing everybody.

[SPEAKER_00]: And eventually, this culminates on what the dead world of NTIM, which is just a misspelling of NTIM, but that's the side note for a different history lesson.

[SPEAKER_00]: I did a lot of those in the last episode I'm not doing today.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure if it's intentional or by chance that they ended up on NTIM, it's possible they were using the last ditch effort to distract the orgs by picking this random death world.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so the country, the entire Legion, on this one world, that has no almost no empiricism on it.

[SPEAKER_00]: And my theory is that they knew that the Orcs would defeat them here, but while the Orcs were fighting here, it would buy even more time elsewhere.

[SPEAKER_00]: And as Europe's invaded, it's obvious this is going to be the 18th last action ever.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're all going to die, but it's GW writing.

[SPEAKER_00]: So Vulcan arrives.

[SPEAKER_01]: Come on live, you're going to make the reference.

[SPEAKER_01]: You kind of talk about how they're making the Battle of Helms Deep Last Charge.

[SPEAKER_01]: Be with me, everyone.

[SPEAKER_01]: And then you just get immediately devastated.

[SPEAKER_01]: Which is what happens in the Yorks.

[SPEAKER_01]: Because they're giving their last rights, their last dance, a love you man.

[SPEAKER_01]: And then Vulcan shows up with 3,000 bros from the occuren.

[SPEAKER_01]: any ton of a better equipment and just starts saw rotting everybody in front of it.

[SPEAKER_00]: This entire scene is it's not verbatim, but the whole scene is from the two towers.

[SPEAKER_00]: It just it's like the accelerators, it's like the 18th Legion at this stage, they're all in the back foot.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're holding the very last gate from the invading literal [SPEAKER_00]: calling it out, it's orcs again, calling it is holding out for last little bit and then suddenly it sunrise behind them on the third day.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly up here is a Vulcan in 3,000 space screens who come rushing through the back side of the orcs slaughtering them, which then the 18th Legion season, they open the gates and shard through the gates trapping the orcs in between and killing them all.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry, that's like actually in the two towers.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's the Orcs that spelled differently, that's about it.

[SPEAKER_01]: Instead of Gandalf showing up, the Vulcan slightly more impressive, because he is ret showing at least guys.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, okay, I'm going to challenge you there, because I do love me some Lord of the Rings.

[SPEAKER_00]: Is Vulcan more powerful than Gandalf?

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but in comparison to other things, I think Gandalf's more powerful.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you look at Gandalf, of course, is everything else in Lord of the Rings.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's not allowed to use his full power [SPEAKER_01]: We were getting to it.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'll dare to out any other things.

[SPEAKER_00]: I know we can do this pretty hard.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was the default cashiest falls apart.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're like, and anyway, we're part of the civil area.

[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you now.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, why is cool though, is after killing all the orgs, the 18th legion meet up with Vulcan, take one look at him and go, oh yeah, that's our prime mark and they just, that was pretty quick and they kneel at which point Vulcan tells him to stand up.

[SPEAKER_00]: He tells him he's no king nor other like being.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's no need to kneel in his presence, which is kind of ironic he's been last five years with the emperor.

[SPEAKER_00]: every one he makes you kneel and then you die and or he controls your slightly lead you just yeah and Vulcan again but by the way that's his Vulcan's first act of I'm a good guy the next thing he does is during the battle the Lord Commander of the 18th Vaughn is mortally loaded [SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan seeks him out and when they meet Vaughn formally transfers command of the 18th to Vulcan, but to respect him, Vulcan hands him the power claw of the leader of the yorks.

[SPEAKER_00]: He does this to prove that this transfer is power is not because Vaughn had failed.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vaughn is a wonderful leader and he wanted to show everybody I respected this person.

[SPEAKER_00]: Then, and this story is just weird, but it gives us a cool model that GW murdered.

[SPEAKER_00]: He book and gives us a step further.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vaughan is gonna die.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's mortally wounded, there's no chance for him.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan then builds him a special sarcophagus.

[SPEAKER_00]: they don't explain how long this took like he's he probably he's mortally wounded and Vulcan has time to go back to terror to get supplies I can't help you get much of them.

[SPEAKER_01]: They always do it weird when they because he's gonna get turned into a dread not for everybody so he's gonna get made a dread not and they never really tell you what the specifics on time or whatever it takes they just say a Marine that could not be saved.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, the whole dreadnought process is like this guy can't be saved.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, so he's going to cross the Rubicon.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, or maybe we're not sure stop passing questions.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to cover Vaughan in our next cast, by the way, but he does come up a bit a lot more Vaughan's a pretty cool story.

[SPEAKER_00]: Very angry dreadnought.

[SPEAKER_00]: Very angry dreadnought.

[SPEAKER_00]: But after this Vulcan continues to kind of hit the lower of Vulcan for like a better phrase, starts to continue to grow.

[SPEAKER_00]: After the events at NTM, Vulcan takes his entire legion back to nocturn, which is at this point, maybe $5,000 guys.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like Glee Club, but at there, they start building up the system that's a very many McCreg, because there's one planet and one moon.

[SPEAKER_00]: But still, same concept.

[SPEAKER_00]: they build up more of the recruiting fortresses, they turn one of the moons into an armory, the whole idea is to make the legion self-sufficient out of this?

[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's go into the thing though because I think one of the really focus of this is he starts to build the legion into what it becomes known as its identity, they become known for using [SPEAKER_01]: a certain style of combat, a certain style of weaponry, that with a melt of flame or guys, but it's not just that it's the way that they do combat.

[SPEAKER_01]: That is where they really start to be that.

[SPEAKER_01]: And that's days forever.

[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I mean, they get how this is how we fight and that becomes the way that they fight to this day.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now, another thing that I do like about this is what he does with the original 18th Legion.

[SPEAKER_00]: So, most of the primarks, after they were discovered, turn their home world to their green roads.

[SPEAKER_00]: Not all, and some to greater success, like Gilman using McRag, good thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: Conrad using Nostromo.

[SPEAKER_00]: Bad.

[SPEAKER_00]: But for the most, for most of the legions, after this happens, the original Terran-born members found themselves isolated from the legion.

[SPEAKER_00]: With all the new recruits come from the new world, and usually the primarke preferring them over the old ones.

[SPEAKER_00]: And in some cases, the deathguard finding themselves constantly on the front line until they were all dead.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're for the purge of legions.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're pretty heresy.

[SPEAKER_00]: Whoops, they're crazy.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan goes the other way.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan does tooth-made things.

[SPEAKER_00]: First, he spreads the Terran-born 18th Legion amongst the knock-turn board.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he does this because he wants his fresh recruits to have as much access and training as possible with the veterans.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because these are people who had spent almost a millennia fighting in the galaxy.

[SPEAKER_00]: So why read what you could be shown?

[SPEAKER_00]: Really great mentor-menty relationship.

[SPEAKER_00]: The other thing he does is he takes a number of these terrenborn and he elevates into his honor guard, which is called the Pire Guard, because the GW really leads to heavily into a fire thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: Play, baby.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, which again, sellimanders are an amphibian.

[SPEAKER_00]: Keep that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Let it go.

[SPEAKER_00]: No.

[SPEAKER_00]: No, there are bad naming mechanics.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is a word.

[SPEAKER_01]: We'll about to talk about the salivator mantle in a bit here.

[SPEAKER_01]: It is makes, which is a lizard skin, by the way.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because salivators, by the way, they resemble lizards, but they're different species.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're different species.

[SPEAKER_00]: Just saying, just saying.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, it would be, oh, anyway.

[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan then goes about creating the Legion in his own image.

[SPEAKER_00]: They will be the most honorable amongst all the legions, unless you're reading a book about the ultramarines and first children, paraphrists, white scars, is then there the most honorable Legion.

[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe the summer is the most dist honorable list of the legion, the bestiest of the mostiest.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they would also be fearless in the face of adversity, savage in their fighting spirit, stoic in their actions, seriously, every single legion, and there's dirt not special.

[SPEAKER_01]: This is why they're special, every, it's why all marine special rule is, they shall know.

[SPEAKER_00]: No fear.

[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, that's kind of the fun part.

[SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about Vulcan being a na-hole.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know what, he's literally does so many awesome things.

[SPEAKER_00]: Guys, cannot see how much I get at Brad's eyes to roll in his head right here.

[SPEAKER_00]: This crap, and that's the whole reason I'm doing it.

[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be right back after a quick break.

[SPEAKER_01]: Alright, six million awesome stories of him being the best hero in the galaxy.

[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, but there was this time in band camp where he pushed a guy in the water.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, let the listeners decide.

[SPEAKER_00]: He just put, let's go through child murderer Vulcan during the great crusade.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're nearing at the end of the great crusade.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's a major dust up with the L.D.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's two plants to curse on.

[SPEAKER_00]: One is Karatan and one is Caldera.

[SPEAKER_00]: I actually don't really understand the order they happened in, so we're going to go with Karatan first.

[SPEAKER_00]: It could have been second, but I think it was first.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, [SPEAKER_00]: Carrotan is a world of exudite elder, along with human self.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Imperium decided to do a really smart thing, and they sent nightlords and salamanders there to pacify the world.

[SPEAKER_00]: Along the way, the salamanders got a new member and surname Seraph, who Vulcan bonds with really well.

[SPEAKER_00]: Their exchange, and it's a book called Vulcan Lives, it really makes Vulcan look like a good person.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is a good exchange as well, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Tell us yes!

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, okay.

[SPEAKER_00]: Wait for it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's more of the good.

[SPEAKER_01]: Multiple novels.

[SPEAKER_01]: The novels of your being an awesome source.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, so to the surprise, I've probably none of you, Vulcan and Conrad don't see eye to eye, literally and figuratively, because Vulcan is 30% bigger than Conrad, because Conrad is one of the smallest print marks.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh boy, but the humans on Cartan had been worshiping the Eldar Sears as gods, which when you take into account what an Eldar Sear can do and what a human's daily life is like, [SPEAKER_00]: And my due to this worship, the people of Cartan rose up against Imperial invaders.

[SPEAKER_00]: How they viewed them at this point?

[SPEAKER_00]: We just not ideal.

[SPEAKER_00]: But a salamanders were struggling with this because they wanted to defeat the elder who were there but they went and minimized human casualty process.

[SPEAKER_01]: Hold on this, because the night hunter did not have that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's mainly a mildly different plan.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna go ahead and make it.

[SPEAKER_01]: He did the star load on that.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, look, I like that, but here's the thing.

[SPEAKER_01]: You plan stupid?

[SPEAKER_01]: Now let me make the plan, so we have a good one.

[SPEAKER_00]: So, Conrad and crew decide to demonstrate the populace, what happens to those whom oppose the Emperor of mankind.

[SPEAKER_00]: And they begin descending on the cities and just slaughtering the inhabitants, not killing them and they're sleep quietly, they're not bad bad, displaying the bodies.

[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just say, they're posting people up.

[SPEAKER_00]: they were in effect showing the populace that the elder can't save you if you don't if you keep resisting us we will slowly murder all of you and he's also not killing soldiers there's random citizens a workers children everything just really rough stuff did work though the human has just crumbles and they go to some other thing here before this one because the night [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so my system works.

[SPEAKER_00]: How does your system go in Vulcan?

[SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan gets mad and goes on a rage at Conrad, giving him the whole, like, we're better than this, we're superior, blah, blah, blah, and Conrad looks at him and goes, look man, you do you.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just going to keep me in me.

[SPEAKER_00]: which is Conrad's general M-O, but my favorite part about the nerd that is Vulcan is Vulcan's yelling at Conrad.

[SPEAKER_00]: Conrad gives in the middle finger and walks away and does Vulcan beat up Conrad.

[SPEAKER_00]: No, does Vulcan personally, maybe.

[SPEAKER_00]: Take a do an upper decker.

[SPEAKER_00]: No, I'll leave can't because of Primark.

[SPEAKER_00]: No, he sends an email strongly where did he mail?

[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you very much.

[SPEAKER_00]: The largest strongest Primark who's also the noblest found out another Primark was committing cold-blooded murder and sent an email complaining about it [SPEAKER_01]: All right, this is a sub-selemmator's cast yet, Hater.

[SPEAKER_01]: I know.

[SPEAKER_01]: Get on board, baby.

[SPEAKER_01]: Get on board.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think the only cast of L'Exion Board with was the Ultramarins.

[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, I write the notes like I'm right in however I want.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, after the surrender, the Imperial forces separate the population to three groups.

[SPEAKER_00]: Eldar, Eldar collaborators, non Eldar collaborators.

[SPEAKER_00]: You don't want to be in groups one and two.

[SPEAKER_00]: So some of the Eldar realizing their doom is at hand, user-sucky powers in the escape.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then the resulting melee, a night-lord bullet, strikes and kills, remember, and serves [SPEAKER_00]: So was it accident?

[SPEAKER_00]: Was it intentional?

[SPEAKER_00]: It's 100%.

[SPEAKER_00]: 100%.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: The night lords did not like Vulcan, and they decided to be funny.

[SPEAKER_01]: They did like being dressed down, and they wanted to make a mockery of his compassion.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so Vulcan looks over at his new friend dying with a balter to the face.

[SPEAKER_00]: So does he rage out against the nightlords who just murdered his friend.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because again, balter shot.

[SPEAKER_00]: Nope.

[SPEAKER_00]: He goes bam, bam, big alone in the situation.

[SPEAKER_00]: And starts just like raging out.

[SPEAKER_00]: And in his rage, because probably he's holding a flamer, a small elder child is nearby and puts their hands [SPEAKER_00]: For no reason, just because, you know, he's a child murderer, Brad.

[SPEAKER_00]: You are a douche.

[SPEAKER_00]: Not a douche, he's like, so he does this, by the way, Conrad runs over and starts talking match.

[SPEAKER_01]: But nanosamata shit, we're just, we're basically the same.

[SPEAKER_01]: Always have been always will be.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: and how does Vulcan handle this does he punch Conrad?

[SPEAKER_00]: No, does he go to redeem himself?

[SPEAKER_00]: No.

[SPEAKER_00]: He gets teary-eyed and he puts his helmet on.

[SPEAKER_00]: No, let's screw you as I see him.

[SPEAKER_01]: You know what, you, this is a real moment in the real dammit.

[SPEAKER_01]: Volkid is filled with remorse is what the book says and in his shave wants to address his legion but does want to show his face because of his shame puts his helmet on.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's what happens.

[SPEAKER_00]: Burn to child the death.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's all right.

[SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't done yet because why burn one when you can burn a lot more.

[SPEAKER_00]: Plus, like about Caldera.

[SPEAKER_00]: known to people there is Ibsen world is a lot more later.

[SPEAKER_00]: Caldera is a mineral rich world that's also a death world.

[SPEAKER_00]: The punna arriving there though, the imperial forces discovered that the Eldar are there, and the Eldar launches furious assault back at them.

[SPEAKER_00]: Luckily, in this situation, the salamanders work with the nightlords, they're with the deathguard and the ironheads.

[SPEAKER_00]: problem is that the Eldar weren't alone.

[SPEAKER_00]: They had throld a race of stop.

[SPEAKER_00]: You've heard this before, insect-like, heavily armored Zenos.

[SPEAKER_00]: Also known to be W right against one in three.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's just what to say.

[SPEAKER_01]: We have so many insect-like Zenos.

[SPEAKER_00]: We, for those who didn't listen, we did a cast on random Zeno species.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I went off on this that like, if they every third is an insect-like chitlin armored, but that's metal and bolter's bounce off it.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's the entire galaxy.

[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I'm just me out, that we still haven't met any dress all night, but.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just apparently someone at GW really like Starship troopers the movie and decided, yep, we're going with that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they should have signed that agreement with Blizzard, just saying.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, that's a cast one every day.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's a cast for their day.

[SPEAKER_00]: So, the Eldar are fighting with them, and it turns out the real goal of the Eldar.

[SPEAKER_00]: And this is why I love playing my Eldar, but man, Eldar and the Lord, stupid.

[SPEAKER_00]: Their plan was to lure Ferris Manus to them, and they were gonna show him the future.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because the Eldar did this a lot.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're trying to show the primarx.

[SPEAKER_00]: Here's the future.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna prepare you for it.

[SPEAKER_00]: But never really had a clear and helpful way.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's a why do a battle super cryptic they could have literally showed up on the bridge It could or send him an email.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean, but anyway this whole part's Objectively hilarious to me because they send the bring him in and they show Ferris a image of a giant purple serpent Which has no meaning to anyone until you have hindsight?

[SPEAKER_00]: It's this whole thing of hey you're gonna die in a car crash when [SPEAKER_00]: on this road you've never been on in your entire life, so we're going to show you a picture of that road.

[SPEAKER_00]: How is that going to help me avoid the road until I'm on it?

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they did show them some demon prints.

[SPEAKER_00]: Folgrim though?

[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.

[SPEAKER_00]: Who?

[SPEAKER_00]: How does he suppose to know?

[SPEAKER_01]: Who looks nothing like Folgrim?

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, as it did show us face, they just show to me purple serpent.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so I may be, by the way, Fulgram, if I was there, was dead at the time, Fulgram became the purple serpent.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is useless information.

[SPEAKER_01]: One of my favorites is still the L.R.

[SPEAKER_01]: Give people the information.

[SPEAKER_01]: They always look at it like a proud, a proud father like that, eh?

[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, obviously you understand everything, right?

[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, no, what are you even talking about?

[SPEAKER_00]: the other one I like in this and just because funny during the battle with the iron hands, the elder were able to disable all the bionics of the iron hands using the weather.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's just in the book.

[SPEAKER_00]: They use the weather to turn off bionics.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.

[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, Matt, my, I have arthritis and it hurts when it rains.

[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, yeah, it's the, you've got a lot of things that hurt when it rains.

[SPEAKER_00]: Also, you got a group of the Arizona, I looked at the problems still here.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, what's more important is that like on Cartoon in Caldera, there's a human population there who are lined with the elder.

[SPEAKER_00]: And these ones are working aggressively with the elder against the Imperium, in some case even sacrificing themselves to save the elder.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was assumed originally that these were, the elder had throlled them like they had the insects, but they realized actually from talking to some of them, it's not the case, they genuinely loved the elder.

[SPEAKER_00]: The humans there preferred them, and this confused Vulcan, until a mysterious remembranceer helped guide him to a concealed web-lay port.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is pretty have night shine a lot.

[SPEAKER_00]: I have to give you props.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this is awesome.

[SPEAKER_00]: Once there, [SPEAKER_00]: Uncover as a bunch of humans who are about to sacrifice a dark elder and this is where if you this is all in Night Shyamalan.

[SPEAKER_00]: The dark elder are about to be killed, Vulcan recognizes, as one of the dark elder that he used to attack nocturn.

[SPEAKER_00]: He then realizes the people about the sacrifice the dark elder are also from nocturn which by the way they would have stood out the side note for a different day.

[SPEAKER_00]: A turns out the whole backstory is the jukari had come to this planet with the slaves they captured at nocturn.

[SPEAKER_00]: The exudite elders detected them attacked, killed them and freed the slaves, saving all these people from hell, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Mind blown.

[SPEAKER_00]: There it is.

[SPEAKER_00]: So what's Vulcan do with this?

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, he realizes these are his people.

[SPEAKER_00]: So he halts the attack and it basically says, Look, these people are with us.

[SPEAKER_00]: These are my people.

[SPEAKER_00]: Why would I fight against my own people?

[SPEAKER_00]: And more importantly, why would I fight against those who saved my people?

[SPEAKER_00]: And if you've read the book, you realize everything I just said makes no sense as a lie, because that's not what he did at all.

[SPEAKER_00]: No, Captain Nobility Vulcan goes completely the other direction.

[SPEAKER_00]: He decides that all the humans on Caldera will love the Eldar forever.

[SPEAKER_00]: So he grabs his whole legion, he goes back to space, and he fire bombs the planet.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because they're all Eldar friends.

[SPEAKER_01]: You pick up the goddamn one story line that makes the settlement.

[SPEAKER_01]: We're doing a sell a better cast.

[SPEAKER_01]: You choose the one story line that makes them look bad.

[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I didn't write this.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, there's no way it was on the shows.

[SPEAKER_01]: They bought this now because they were trying to set it up in a very heavy handed way that the emperor was behind all of this because he was trying to make a super [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, got it, it, Zino's are always going to be dirty Zino's and sometimes you can't spare anybody that's around makes no sense.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and Vulcan totally falls for it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Although afterwards he wants again, he's very sad.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan's superpower is being sorry.

[SPEAKER_00]: He'd make a great Canadian.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's either Canadian, Prime Mark.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a boot to put my beats of my D.S.

[SPEAKER_01]: Kicking right up the side of your head.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because shit on Vulcan.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's a bunch of Tim Hortons and Putinaries all over Knockturn.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway Vulcan said, let's get ahead.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's fun.

[SPEAKER_00]: Bye.

[SPEAKER_00]: Not, no, it's fun five of the past 50 years.

[SPEAKER_00]: So let's get one of this.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's been with him for a while for that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Wasn't?

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, me eight, 96.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's discovered it in his sex.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's not, I'd look it up, am I?

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, but we'll skip ahead a bit to, it's fun five.

[SPEAKER_00]: We've covered his fun five a bunch of times.

[SPEAKER_00]: If, for whatever, it's your first time listening to our cast and you're not aware of his fun five, I'll go real quick.

[SPEAKER_00]: At it's fun three, Horace and his team show their hand and they attack their own loyalists within their region.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it's an ultimate active betrayal.

[SPEAKER_00]: and effort to put down the rebellion, the salamanders, the iron hands and the raven guard are sent to Istvahn five to kill them, but this is way for it.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's a trap.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Admiral Akbar is very present.

[SPEAKER_00]: They actually are deployed with the [SPEAKER_00]: Ember's children, nightlords, and crumb leaders and world leaders who then all also turn on them so they had caught in a trap.

[SPEAKER_00]: During it, Vulcan and his legion actually dig the worst of it with Vulcan himself taking a nuke to the face.

[SPEAKER_01]: We're not that's not an exaggeration.

[SPEAKER_01]: He legitimately gets hits him.

[SPEAKER_01]: A new kid's him.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and after it, the centimeters all affect them.

[SPEAKER_00]: We go to singular, like it's that bad.

[SPEAKER_00]: They don't recover in significant numbers till well after the heresy.

[SPEAKER_00]: They technically never have.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan though is much more interesting because Vulcan isn't immortal.

[SPEAKER_00]: And by immortal, he's a highlander.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because there can be only one.

[SPEAKER_00]: But he's not really.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's a perpetual.

[SPEAKER_00]: I do wonder how many times I can bring up Highlander, really best of everything I bring about perpetual, to debate for the discord, which actor is the best of the Highlanders, not just the best Duncan McCloud, but any of them, although apparently, including, if you listen to this in the future, Dave Baltista and Henry Cavill, because apparently there's a new Highlander coming out with those two in it.

[SPEAKER_00]: That'll be good.

[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, jump in.

[SPEAKER_00]: Let me know.

[SPEAKER_00]: Who is the best Highlander?

[SPEAKER_00]: Not Duncan McLeod, but just Highlander.

[SPEAKER_01]: Throw it out there.

[SPEAKER_01]: Can be counter-ordoken, or any of them.

[SPEAKER_00]: Look, if you want to do, if you want to go with whatever weird, span your god that will, it's so bad, I re-watch it the other day too.

[SPEAKER_00]: So, that was effective.

[SPEAKER_00]: Every time Vulcan dies, his body regenerates, and he comes back with some levels of mental trauma.

[SPEAKER_00]: But he's back.

[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you so much.

[SPEAKER_01]: Lord, it's not like he just doesn't die.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's perpetual, so he comes back.

[SPEAKER_01]: Which is what the apron is also.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now what's funny about this is that the anger he is the faster you can reform.

[SPEAKER_00]: So kind of anger on in the current lore.

[SPEAKER_00]: on Istvon 5 though, this gets to be kind of humorous if you want to read it the right way, to take the nuk to the face, and then everyone runs that and then Vulcan stands up.

[SPEAKER_00]: But the traders are all standing looking at him, so then they shoot at a bunch of times.

[SPEAKER_00]: So he dies and gets back up again, and they shoot at him again.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like that scene Boris, the bullet dodger, and snatch.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're just keeps going, you are standing up.

[SPEAKER_00]: And they keep doing this until Conrad swoops in and grabs Vulcan between one of his deaths and rebirth.

[SPEAKER_01]: And this is not great for Vulcan.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so as much as I'm the kind of like crap talking Vulcan on this to cast, I do actually like Vulcan.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like Conrad, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: I do.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I do.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's a character.

[SPEAKER_01]: But I know he's I liked what he's doing here because he totally does the Joker mojo on this because he effectively wants to hurt Vulcan and torture him enough to show that everyone is a bad guy.

[SPEAKER_01]: Period.

[SPEAKER_01]: Not just him, but that's this whole thing though.

[SPEAKER_01]: Is he's trying to show that other people are bad?

[SPEAKER_01]: Also not just him, everybody's.

[SPEAKER_01]: That's this whole thing on that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.

[SPEAKER_00]: This kind of my, he's, I'm not saying that it's good.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm saying he's messed up, and that's what he's trying to do.

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you can say he's meant to be the Joker.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's the whole thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: They stole it from the Joker and Batman trying to say that all superheroes are actually bad people.

[SPEAKER_00]: Those someone in Superman knew this way too.

[SPEAKER_00]: But Conrad decides he's going to busy make Vulcan admit that he's no better than Conrad by torturing him first physically and then later mentally until he can break him.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it's over a few months, but for a few months he kills Vulcan multiple times a day.

[SPEAKER_00]: Stacks him, shoots [SPEAKER_00]: You know, horrible things from limbs.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, fires them out in the space.

[SPEAKER_00]: It gets a little cartoonish by the end of them being honest.

[SPEAKER_00]: And eventually, but every time Vulcan reforms, it just gives them a middle finger to Conrad and Conrad then gets upset.

[SPEAKER_00]: So Conrad decides, I'll make him kill himself.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he locks him in a psychic prison.

[SPEAKER_00]: where he keeps facing these endless challenges, no matter what he chooses in his challenge, the people he's trying to save, all die, every single time.

[SPEAKER_00]: And this was meant to test Vulcan's fortitude with like, cis-a-fian level of tasks.

[SPEAKER_00]: But this doesn't work and eventually Conrad goes almost gives up and says all right, well, what if loneliness will work.

[SPEAKER_00]: So on his ship for no explainable reason, he had Peter Robo build him this impossible [SPEAKER_01]: Let me do this one on this, because this is one of my favorites, because I love it.

[SPEAKER_01]: I do because it's no, because they go into in the book a long time talking about this impossible abreth, he can't make it, his hammers in the middle, and you know, basically putting the cheese in the middle of the labyrinth, you'll never be able to get there, and Vulcan goes [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm there, like what happened?

[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, you, it will take you a million years.

[SPEAKER_01]: And he's like, I'm just gonna, I got it right here.

[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, I'm already in the middle while you were explaining that.

[SPEAKER_00]: I solved the whole thing and walked the middle.

[SPEAKER_00]: And oh, look, I've got my hammer Don Bringer.

[SPEAKER_00]: And inside of it is a special teleport device.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of accurate, but apparently [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but he missed the last key bit.

[SPEAKER_00]: So the problem is that he wants to go back to McCreck, because he knows if I'll get next to Gilliman, and then he, because it's Gilliman, he is the best primarck, and then together, we can go solve all these problems.

[SPEAKER_00]: So he warps himself to McCreck, and he's close.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he's all you have to do.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's not acknowledging my eye roll so hard.

[SPEAKER_00]: He ends up a hundred million miles off for 160 million colors, which I discovered.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's a term for that.

[SPEAKER_00]: So a million million is a millard.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry, a million thousand is a millard.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's the number for it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I look stuff up sometimes.

[SPEAKER_00]: So Vulcan teleports into orbit above McRag, add then just descends from orbit, burning into a crisp on the way down.

[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, by the way, he's adds so many deaths and such a small amount of time.

[SPEAKER_01]: Whew, it's not to shake that off.

[SPEAKER_00]: This story is funny.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's held in me though.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just going to be candid.

[SPEAKER_00]: So he's discovered by the Ultramarines who think a statue fell out of the sky because he's so burnt up they're like, what is this thing?

[SPEAKER_00]: But they take it back somewhere and realize it's alive.

[SPEAKER_00]: And after a few days, it starts to heal up and come to sort of.

[SPEAKER_00]: So someone has to run until Gilliman, oh, hey, your brothers here, and Gilliman's like, well, when did he arrive, we don't know who wears his ship.

[SPEAKER_00]: There isn't one.

[SPEAKER_00]: How to get here, orbit.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right.

[SPEAKER_00]: So Gilliman goes there, but the problem is that at this point, Vulcan's kind of insane.

[SPEAKER_01]: Not kind of the same he is.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's broken mentally.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: And this comes back a multiple times from this particular set of events still to this day.

[SPEAKER_01]: We have get Vulcan as still has issues.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's questions about Vulcan's mental state.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan is not really talking.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's just violent.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyone gets near him.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we discover in the books, because again, it's not clear to anyone else, but you read in the books that the reason for this is the process of dying these thousands of deaths.

[SPEAKER_00]: The second term at with Conrad, he basically Conrad becomes his mortal enemy.

[SPEAKER_00]: And Vulcan needs to kill Conrad.

[SPEAKER_00]: Unbeknownst to Gilliman, and really everyone there, Conrad is on the Craig.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan can sound him.

[SPEAKER_00]: Be right on it.

[SPEAKER_01]: To be fair.

[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody knew.

[SPEAKER_00]: I can't do that, but I wish I could, but I just wanted to.

[SPEAKER_00]: It goes to be my voice cracks, so whatever, Vulcan breaks free of his bonds, pillages and armory, and then just goes hunting for Conrad, which is by the way, really funny, because Conrad is an amazing, himming corax that you best hiders the entire galaxy.

[SPEAKER_00]: Galaxy.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Vulcan just knows where he is.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so Conrad's like hiding and speaking around doing murder or then giant Vulcan's bashing through the door, cool aid man's style, you know, I just run away again.

[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of collateral damage am I dead, by the way.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan is very singular and purpose.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to juggernaut style after Conrad.

[SPEAKER_00]: during this battle, a character named John Grammaticus gets involved.

[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, by the way, I can never read this without immediately doing Ironicist, the Jada Rinnicus, the main evil guy for Balder's Gate 2.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, grammaticists, we're going to do a cast lick of all guys, but actually probably pretty soon.

[SPEAKER_00]: So if we're getting me for a quick hit there, but grammaticists is a very questionable figure in the lore.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's aligned with the cabal who appeared to have their own motors in the galaxy, their outside of chaos, wild around sight of everything.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but it's, if they do stuff, it's, they'll be a fun one.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're not really sure what's going on with the cabal.

[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, he's on McRag to kill Vulcan for the cabal.

[SPEAKER_00]: But Eldrad shows up, and Eldrad, as usual, is mediocre helpful.

[SPEAKER_00]: Eldrad tells grammaticus that if he stabs Vulcan with a special blade made of folgarite, which is a real thing, folgarite's when lightning hits sand, he gets folgarite.

[SPEAKER_00]: But in this case, it's lightning from the emperor.

[SPEAKER_00]: So when the emperor does his Star Wars lightning attack on people, then if it hits any sand nearby, then there's a crystal there.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it's called folgarite.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, so Eldrade tells Grammaticus effectively the truth, which is if he stabs Vulcan with this sword, Grammaticus will lose his perpetual abilities, but it will cure Vulcan of his like mental curse.

[SPEAKER_00]: So Grammaticus does this stabs Vulcan and Grammaticus is no longer perpetual.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan though dies.

[SPEAKER_00]: Sort of.

[SPEAKER_00]: He just drops.

[SPEAKER_00]: and I don't remember by the way how his pire guard got on the crag if they were already there.

[SPEAKER_01]: They said that they were already supposedly they were searching for him in the first place.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of like what they're doing now with recovering the artifacts.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're a near-ish.

[SPEAKER_00]: So his pie or guard suddenly show up and they find their prime mark dead, but not dead, so they take him back to nocturn, and full fellowship, but so they do this, they think about, and then we have a full blown fellowship of the rings, where I'm not going to get into this, because you can read the book you want to more, but they decide the best way to cure Vulcan is to throw him into a volcano.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so they do that.

[SPEAKER_01]: You're just like, hey, they could have just pulled the shard out of it.

[SPEAKER_01]: No, thank you.

[SPEAKER_01]: A pair of, you know, barbecue tongs.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because if you fix this whole thing, I've got a leatherman on my desk because it used that pull it out of it.

[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, we're going to throw them into a volcano.

[SPEAKER_01]: So they say, all I'm saying, everyone is if there's something stuck in my side, pull it out, don't throw me into a volcano.

[SPEAKER_01]: That's how I ask.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: So the third one of the volcano, the volcano dissolves his body, but because it does that, then the full great falls free.

[SPEAKER_00]: Cause again, can't pull it out, gotta burn the whole thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: Which allows Vulcan to regenerate a new.

[SPEAKER_00]: So Vulcan comes to, but because GW does love this, he comes to with full amnesia.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is, by the way, I know what.

[SPEAKER_00]: I lost tracks.

[SPEAKER_01]: Screw you guys, I'm thinking this is awesome.

[SPEAKER_01]: You know why this is awesome?

[SPEAKER_01]: Because the amnesia might be a 90's trope, [SPEAKER_01]: Here we get what have brought my favorite things which is a vision quest also a terrible trope.

[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.

[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care you can't make me feel bad about love with me a vision quest.

[SPEAKER_01]: He meets with an old man who helps him discover who he is.

[SPEAKER_01]: and then volcano Vulcan comes back to his senses and is back baby.

[SPEAKER_01]: He comes back out, knows who he is.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's things that go on a song.

[SPEAKER_00]: You're missing a key part.

[SPEAKER_00]: So on his vision quest, there's an old man in the hands.

[SPEAKER_00]: You have to dive more into it.

[SPEAKER_00]: This old man is really is always testing him to kind of see how noble he really is.

[SPEAKER_00]: Really diving pretty far into him as a person.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to reveal in that in a minute.

[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, then he pops out of the volcano and there's three of the starties.

[SPEAKER_00]: Three, one, two, three, hanging out outside.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he looks at them and they look at him and he goes, hey, go get your shit.

[SPEAKER_00]: But don't tell anybody and meet me back here.

[SPEAKER_00]: Think tomorrow.

[SPEAKER_00]: So they do.

[SPEAKER_00]: And they come back tomorrow.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he turns and opens the web way gate.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's right there.

[SPEAKER_00]: And they go on an adventure.

[SPEAKER_01]: How do you not think all of this is awesome?

[SPEAKER_01]: You sit down and you absorb how awesome he came back.

[SPEAKER_01]: He had a vision quest after his amnesia found himself.

[SPEAKER_01]: He was a noble warrior.

[SPEAKER_01]: And then they're going on an epic adventure.

[SPEAKER_01]: Come on, how was that not fantastic?

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway.

[SPEAKER_00]: You would like this if it was in a video game.

[SPEAKER_00]: Totally what, but I like a lot of things in video games, I don't really know.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is how many videos I finished being able to go.

[SPEAKER_00]: What the hell did I touch them like?

[SPEAKER_00]: I love the Final Fantasy series.

[SPEAKER_00]: They don't make sense that Sephiroth do this.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, so while they're going through their little web way journey, as a key part, so while he was inside the volcano, [SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan doesn't remember this but he forged two items.

[SPEAKER_00]: First is the talism of the seven hammers which is a compass.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's a compass and then he's also got a new hammer whose name I'm forgetting but that's what he has.

[SPEAKER_00]: So he's got both of these and he's going on his adventure and the venture starts off with they're in Kamara which is so by the way this book's called Old Earth if you want to read these stories are actually really badass.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm being [SPEAKER_00]: shitty about it because they're pretty cool.

[SPEAKER_00]: And the fight in commerce largely in consequential for the overall storyline, but it's just, it's got a cool examples of like Vulcan fighting and Vulcan being clever.

[SPEAKER_00]: Next, they go and meet the cult of the Gorgon who have pseudo resurrected Ferris Manus, but not really, they just took one of his arms and shoved it on a robot.

[SPEAKER_00]: But close enough, they fight, he uses his hammer to kill it awesome.

[SPEAKER_00]: The part that matters is when they get the caldera.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now, Caldera is the world that Vulcan burned, so they get there, and he sees the horror of what he did to the people there, and realizes that he is not a good person, and Vulcan vows to always protect Caldera forever, that is his thing, which we then covered in the war of the beast.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's why he is a back on Caldera.

[SPEAKER_01]: Also he's awesome from this point on.

[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you very much.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yes at this point on he gets Oh my god, we have ten thousand years of Vulcan being awesome.

[SPEAKER_01]: You're like but he was kind of a douche this one time [SPEAKER_00]: more than kind of.

[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, the part I like about this is that he after he sits there and reflects all of it on Caldera on Eldar appears and shows him, all right, here's a web way portal to get you where you want to go, sort of, by the way.

[SPEAKER_00]: This would take some decalis star.

[SPEAKER_00]: The calis star is like the last stop jump before the Imperial Dungeon, because we talked about when Magnus did a lot of things [SPEAKER_00]: They basically broke away into the Imperial Palace via what it's like to a web way gate.

[SPEAKER_00]: Calistar is kind of the other side of the web way gate.

[SPEAKER_00]: So she's the massive amount of demons there.

[SPEAKER_00]: All trying to fight their way into the Imperium.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan gets there and immediately gets beset upon by demons.

[SPEAKER_00]: And the fighting culminates with him fighting the great unclean one Agalbor.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's close enough.

[SPEAKER_00]: And but thanks to his trusty compass not kidding here use the compass.

[SPEAKER_00]: He then is able to defeat Album or permanent.

[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, well, I was just I was just about to say I you will not sell that short because with his artifacts that he's been creating he's actually able to permanently destroy a demon which I think at this point no one is able has been done at least from the imperium.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Emperor probably has, but yeah, he doesn't count.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Emperor is that, yeah, yeah, yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he'll go, oh, wow, not him.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it's funny, when you read the book, this story is really cool.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it takes a really weird left turn.

[SPEAKER_00]: So he defeats the great unclean one, but there's still too many demons.

[SPEAKER_00]: So they have to start retreating at which point Eldrade shows up.

[SPEAKER_00]: And Eldrade's like, oh, yeah, I told that last Eldrade, help you guys get here.

[SPEAKER_00]: But actually, the gate that you're going to hear, [SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, I'm here now, check out this other gate over here and just arrive and take into another gate that dumps him in front of the Imperial Palace.

[SPEAKER_00]: So out of nowhere, during the Horace invasion, this is the during the Battle of Sol by the way, Vulcan and three guys just appear outside of the gate.

[SPEAKER_00]: I do like this piece because it happens.

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Doran sees him, evolving kind of waves at him.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's all I have time for.

[SPEAKER_01]: We forgot that also.

[SPEAKER_01]: Eldred says he's the old man.

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, Fred, and Eldron reveals I was the one who was talking to you in the volcano.

[SPEAKER_01]: But he was testing himself.

[SPEAKER_01]: He wants to see if he's someone that's worthy to be basically brought into this fight.

[SPEAKER_01]: He want to make sure he was not chaos tainted.

[SPEAKER_01]: Which this is a real ad.

[SPEAKER_01]: Eldron makes full sense in this one because he knows everything that's going down.

[SPEAKER_01]: There's a huge fight between chaos and the Imperium.

[SPEAKER_00]: The rest of the Imperium.

[SPEAKER_00]: And why Eldron didn't just take him from nocturn.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's test to give to make sure, and it makes sure he's Elitreads not that helpful.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's all I'm getting at.

[SPEAKER_00]: He thinks he's helpful.

[SPEAKER_00]: Look, he's not very helpful.

[SPEAKER_01]: You know what, this would, all I'm saying is he wouldn't have expedited enough to have enough levels to take out what he had to take with Tara if he wouldn't have been done on these first.

[SPEAKER_01]: All right.

[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, Vulcan, it is funny, by the way, like, about this is Rogel Dorn and the Custodes.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, you're here.

[SPEAKER_00]: Did you bring the rest of your leeching?

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, yeah, me and Tim are here.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's Andy and Tim, guys.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, or is this enough and they're like, [SPEAKER_00]: All right, whatever, they take them to meet the Emperor.

[SPEAKER_00]: And the Emperor is pretty jammed up, by the way, because the Emperor is in the Golden Throne, just like trying to do everything all at once.

[SPEAKER_00]: And the Emperor informs Volkan at this point that he brought him to Terra to bring him the magical compass, because in secret when he was in Mount Doomfire recovering, the Emperor reached in and had Volkan forge him a special weapon.

[SPEAKER_00]: And this weapon, which is the compass, is a doomsday button.

[SPEAKER_00]: If he uses this correctly, I guess you plug the compass into something else, then if the emperor were to fail, if he were to die, Vulcan is to press this button and it will eliminate terror from the galaxy, which prevents the forces of chaos from ever gaining it.

[SPEAKER_00]: And to credit Vulcan here, the emperor says there's no one I could entrust with this other [SPEAKER_00]: Because a lot of you guys would just press the button or pretty too early or they would press it too late.

[SPEAKER_00]: really great little moment.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan is not a huge fan of this plan, by the way.

[SPEAKER_00]: Alright guys, so now we've run into a bit of a problem though.

[SPEAKER_00]: The next part of what I need to tell you about this story comes from Echoes of eternity and the end of deaths one through three.

[SPEAKER_00]: Those books at time of recording are less than three years old, which means the vast majority of people, now I haven't even read the end of death three all the way yet, haven't read these books yet.

[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a lot of black library writing that I'm happy to spoil because it's not very good, but these are books I think most people are going to read and so I'm just not really comfortable because there's some serious red content that occurs in these books.

[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, we had a pause before we talked about this or Brad and I was saying, hey, I don't remember this, I'm going to know that's because the lore that existed around this.

[SPEAKER_00]: change the last three years with these new releases.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is the end of death series is wild and some of the stuff they've added in there and it hasn't really translated that much to people's knowledge of the lore because it's not the books sold out basically immediately.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're incredibly expensive in the scalper market so your only option is a 16-hour audio book.

[SPEAKER_00]: So a lot of it was having read them, and because of that, I'm going to do a kind of weird hard stop there.

[SPEAKER_00]: The story is cool with where Vulcan and the Emperor kind of interact and some of things that occur on Terra wall, the Emperor is fighting with Horace, but we'll cover that maybe in 2027, so many people enough time to read these books, to either read the books, or to say, yeah, not reading that book, go ahead and tell him about it in the podcast.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm fine either way, but I feel bad if someone goes and drops like $500 on a scalper, you get a hold of the book, and then I spoil it, so there we go.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, ugh, so let's jump post-Harracy real quick, because this is actually really brief.

[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's talk about this because Vulcan, no matter how much you try to prove on him, Vulcan is 100% will not let people suffer now.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's just saying, I am there for the protection of the populace.

[SPEAKER_01]: Again, that's a big difference.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like the imperial fist, while noble, powerful warriors, they are basically there for the empiric, the concept of the empiric.

[SPEAKER_01]: Vulcan's there for the populace of the, the actual people of the empiric.

[SPEAKER_00]: very much.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so what we end up with now is the heresy has concluded, Gilliman, the lion, Leeeman have arrived.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we've got now is, well, it's vengeance time is what it is.

[SPEAKER_00]: Leeeman, the lion, [SPEAKER_00]: Con, or, correct sub of the correct.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Lehman, Lion, Correx, Rokal, Jogatai, they want to go hunt down the traitors and kill over the last one of them.

[SPEAKER_00]: Gilliman is like, well, I also want to cut them down, but maybe we should have a galaxy to come back to, and again, they all went, shut up nerd, and went off their own thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan's in a weird spot.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan loves humanity, and ever he looks, he sees people suffering.

[SPEAKER_00]: The whole thing.

[SPEAKER_01]: And also it's his brothers, remember his brothers.

[SPEAKER_01]: And one of the biggest problems is, hey man, one of my type, basically the emperor's children only took out the regular [SPEAKER_00]: So he takes Vulcan looks around at the suffering of humanity and he sees something.

[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone had his little target, his target becomes Fabius Bile.

[SPEAKER_00]: While the Siege of Terror was occurring, the Emperor's children looked around and went, yeah, this whole fighting thing against the space springs and the wall thing, that sucks.

[SPEAKER_00]: But over here, as Brad loves to say, at the gap, there's no one there, it's the gap still around by the way, I like you make this reference, I'm actually not sure if that's the worth thing.

[SPEAKER_01]: All I know is that I do, yeah, it's not a thing anymore because the Emperor's children grabbed all the people that worked there and took him back to the eye of terror.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.

[SPEAKER_00]: But one of the worst ones was actually Fabius Bial, who was taking, doing experiments.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's doing a horror film.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was about to say, he's not doing, hey man, I want to see how you're creating levels are.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's doing messed up shit to people.

[SPEAKER_00]: the last action Vulcan takes is he grabs his legion and goes after down to the the world's called Arden Nine in the Geldin sector.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan personally leads an attack on Fabius Bialis Allies discovering this like host of mutilated and mutated trader mechanic on the space marines human beings.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's gross, but Bial gets away.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's that.

[SPEAKER_00]: piece is out and says, but he says to them, I need to get some milk and I'll be back later.

[SPEAKER_00]: Don't worry.

[SPEAKER_01]: It is 100% about what he says.

[SPEAKER_01]: He says, I will return to you anytime you have your greatest need.

[SPEAKER_01]: I will be there for you.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a very similar statement to the guy who is going to get some milk.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's equal amount of returning about.

[SPEAKER_00]: He does return.

[SPEAKER_00]: They should have got, they should have got the nine artifacts.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: How many have they got five?

[SPEAKER_00]: Five.

[SPEAKER_00]: Let's get into this.

[SPEAKER_00]: Let's get this really quick.

[SPEAKER_00]: The last little bit on Vulcan I want to talk about is the current law for Vulcan.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's a law that's within the Salamanders, the law.

[SPEAKER_00]: is that Vulcan will return when they can bring together their nine items.

[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, this is how all of them are right now.

[SPEAKER_00]: The leave and will return in the wolves how it should have already been there 13th capital should have continued.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but that's all them have their like story that will bring their prime mark back.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what the White Scar says, GW hasn't bothered telling us.

[SPEAKER_00]: But they have to recover the nine artifacts.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's a nine items at Vulcan himself forced.

[SPEAKER_00]: We have currently the Chalice of Fire, the eye of Vulcan, the spirit of Vulcan, which is the funny one.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because that's the one that trades.

[SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan, he wants it to keep trying to steal.

[SPEAKER_01]: and Fulkin has to end has it right now.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, but Trasian once had badly.

[SPEAKER_00]: The cassaris mantle and the gauntlet of the forge, they need to go find the engine of woe.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's a wonderful name.

[SPEAKER_00]: The obsidian chariot, Jarrett, a little bit cooler.

[SPEAKER_00]: The song of entropy, which is probably not great, and the unbound flame.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is great this way or if they can find all of those Vulcan will return or GW will just bring him back whenever the hell they feel like it.

[SPEAKER_00]: It has to be more of their MO.

[SPEAKER_00]: But that's Vulcan.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of where it is.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so we're a little over an hour now.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I think we'll break there.

[SPEAKER_00]: Next week we're going to do one more piece of salamanders.

[SPEAKER_00]: But this time we're going to do a bit of a combo episode.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk about some of the salamander actions after Vulcan has left [SPEAKER_00]: pretty busy actually despite being a very tiny legion.

[SPEAKER_00]: I also put a little bit more about the second founding with them, which consists of nothing because they didn't have enough people to do one, but that's a side note.

[SPEAKER_00]: But more to some of their successor chapters that have come out of them is not a lot, by the way.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then dive into some of their characters, because they do have some super cool key characters who had some great lore despite almost all of them going to legends.

[SPEAKER_00]: Until then, John Barsotti, Brad Chester.

[SPEAKER_00]: This guy.

[SPEAKER_00]: See you guys next week.

[UNKNOWN]: Thank you.
