Live podcast events are “surreal” says Alastair Campbell

Episode Transcript

From Radio Days in Jakarta, the latest from podnews.net with Soundstack.

Alistair Campbell, the former UK Government Communications and Strategy Director and now host of The Rest is Politics, has said in an interview that it was absolutely surreal to be performing a podcast on stage at a sellout O2 Arena last year.

We had something like 15,000 people there, he said.

It was very, very odd.

We link to the interview today.

It's an interview from a man with a garbage bin on his head who has stood three times for election as a British Member of Parliament in spite of being from the planet Sigma-4.

But don't worry, this is quite a normal thing for UK politics, rather weirdly.

I went on one of the biggest podcasts in the world, says one author, and it didn't sell any books.

We link to Amy McNeigh, who went on Jay Shetty's show.

She adds that she's developing a theory that artists have been taught that success comes from external forces, before adding that success doesn't come that way, it comes from word of mouth.

Her book, by the way, is called We Need Your Art.

Stop messing about and make something.

Talks.co, a platform connecting podcasters and guests, has launched free speaker pages to help hosts find guests.

And Demo Code for producing the podcast location tag was released in July by Alberto Betella of rss.com.

The tool follows best practice for the tag, including populating open street map IDs and differentiating between the creator and the subject.

It's written in JavaScript and supports auto-completion and just requires a key from Location IQ, which has a free tier.

We're telling you again about this tool because A, it's very nice, and B, all the Americans are on holiday.

But I've still got to find things to write about in this section.

And that was one of them.
