Episode Transcript

Speaker 1

Thank you for young one boy, hanger out with long and then wait more.

Speaker 2

Welcome to Massa Territory, ladies and gentlemen, Happy Friday night.

If you're joining me live here.

We got some rumors to talk about, we got some news to talk about from the last couple of days, and uh, hey, if you're joining me on a Friday night, hey, thank you very much.

Do appreciate that.

I know a lot of you are out there, you know, going down and getting yourself a nice bite to eat, maybe a drink or two.

Possibly drive safe as of course as always, but uh listen, we're not gonna stop here, even on a Friday night.

We're gonna be making sure we're talking all the news and the rumors, and we gotta a little something in the last couple of days.

Pete Alonso popping up there the trade market when it comes to getting a starting picture.

What's going on there.

It's feeling like no one wants to trade their starting pictures.

I'm gonna dive into that a little bit of giving my thoughts and I'm gonna tell you, even though we are hearing a lot about teams not wanting to give up starting pitching, I'm gonna tell you right now, do not worry, because I think the Red Sox one way or another are gonna add themselves a starting picture behind Garret Croche.

I'll give you my thoughts on that, whether or not they add a starting picture.

Could the Red Sox build a super bullpen?

Sounds pretty fun.

I like the idea.

I'm always for a nice, beefed up bullpen.

Could you imagine adding someone alongside the role as Chapman and Garrett Woodlock.

I would say at least one of the best one to two punctions in all of baseball last year, So that sounds pretty exciting.

I'll talk about that.

David Ortiz talking a little bit at his shared event going on this weekend, talking about what he hopes the Red Sox will add for the soft season.

David Ortiz, He's always a bigger voice now, I know you know.

He was talking a little bit about Juan Soto last offseason that ended up not happening, but hey, the Red Sox were aggressive for Soto in the end, he went to the Mets.

It is what it is.

But Poppy, he still has a big voice in Red Sox Land, and hey, speaking of her oldest Chabman.

He got himself an award at the at the awards ceremony last night.

I'm gonna say this right now before I forget Lumerloni.

He put out there saying, hey, why don't we just make this a one night event.

Why don't we just do Manager of the Year, you know, Rookie of the Year, MVP cy Young's and why not you know, making an event every year that people are gonna turn into.

It'll be buzzy.

It'll be a lot of buzz with that newsworthy.

Speaker 3

Is.

Speaker 2

I think he made a pretty good point about it.

And uh, I'm gonna because I want to say this because I know I'm gonna forget about it.

He said, like, hey, you know, instead of just doing these like nightly reveals, you know, do an event, you know, because it's just gonna draw more attention to the game, and it's just it's gonna get everyone buzzing'.

I like that idea, honestly, I like it.

And he made a good point about it as well, saying, you know, people don't realize that they're giving out these awards because they only just posted on social media.

So that could be pretty fun.

Anyway, those are our quick thoughts on that.

Who do we got here in the chat?

We got gmgs, we got Mike, we got Corbin, we got Moose, we got Anathasia, David Young, How we doing, Jacob?

How you doing?

How you doing?

Let's get to it, everybody.

Let's get every also really quick.

If you can hit the like button for me, subscribe if you're due.

We're trying to get the six k by opening day.

I think we can.

We've been getting a lot of new subscribers as of late.

Video Game Nation.

How you doing, my friend?

Let's get to it.

Here we go, and uh, we're gonna start off, of course with one of the big power bats.

We're all hoping for a middle of the order bat.

How many times of this offseason are we going to hear middle of the order bat over?

Under?

Are we gonna hear middle of the order bat over a thousand times in the next month or under?

Based off of how many people are tweeting that same phrase middle of the order bat?

Well, hey, we do need one.

We definitely need one.

We need some more power in the middle of the order.

Only ranked fifteenth in home runs this past year.

But uh, there is a little a little bit of a golden tidbit out there that maybe the Red Sox have their eyes on Pete Alonzo over Kyle Schwarber.

That's been a bit of a I don't know if you call it a debate.

It's more, you know, it's like what would you rather have?

You want chocolate ice cream?

Or you want vanilla?

Right, you want strawberry or what do you want?

It's really picked your flavor.

It's all gonna be good, right, Uh, you know, pizza, right, cheese, pepperoni, Either one's gonna be good.

Which one do you want?

So it's really I wouldn't say it's much of a debate, but is either guy is going to help out the Red Sox lineup?

Now I've given you my case.

I would love either or.

I mean, listen, right next week, if we got a report saying Kyle Schwarber is coming to the Red Sox, I'll be doing cartwheels in the front lawn.

Or if it's Peter Alonzo, I'll be doing cartwheels the opposite way in the front lawn.

It doesn't matter.

I mean doing cartwheels regardless.

But I think Pete Alonzo could be more realistic.

And now that I'm saying that out loud, and I've been saying it.

Watch It's probably not gonna happen, of course, because everything I say just is wrong all the time.

But I do think Pete Alonzo makes a lot more sense.

I've given you the reasons.

Obviously, big right handed bat gives you the power.

He's played in a big market, and you don't have to give up a draft pick, which is something I do think the Red Sox front office, I think they value that still, no matter where they're at in a competitive window, there's they're at a point now where they've been wanting to get to.

They've wanted to get back to this competitive window while having a strong infrastructure within the organization, having a strong form system.

So I don't think they're just gonna be like, Okay, we'll just get rid of the draft pick, right.

I think they will if they have to, But if they could hang onto one, I think they would rather At least I would think many members of the front office would like to hang onto a draft pick.

That's just my opinion, right, But we did get something.

We did get something here from Chris Gattillo on mass Live had a big old article why Peter Alonzo's DH proclamation makes him more intriguing to the power Starved Red Sox.

And that's another reason as well, is what is the willingness of Peter Alonzo to d H?

Right, He's He's been on record before saying he values very highly the fact that he's a first baseman.

He wants to be out there in the field.

And Hey, a lot of guys they like to be out there in the field.

It's like a it's a routine thing.

Now.

We've been getting reports over the last couple of days.

I think Scott Boris himself even said it today.

You know, he is open to maybe dhing a little bit, but the main thing is he wants to go to a winner.

Right And uh, we got this as well.

We got and here was the quote from Scott Boris.

Boris were not the quote, but signaled that Alonzo was willing to DH at least sometimes with his new club.

Here's the quote.

I think Pete at this point in his career is about winning, no doubt.

I've had that question a lot.

There's no doubt Pete's pursuers are primed to pay the Power Piper.

We read that one the other day but here was the interesting one this week.

Let me get this pulled up for you this week.

However, word is there are some in the club's inner circle that prefer Alonzo to Kyle Schwarber, the other top offensive free agent who projects to be exclusively a DH in twenty twenty six.

Alonso doesn't have a qualifying offer or draft pick compensation attached to him like Schoorbert does, so again, I think that's a big deal, at least in my opinion.

Right, you know, we can all sit here and we can you know, be armchair gms.

We can argue with each other back and forth.

We should do this, we should do that.

But in the end, what I always try to say is instead of thinking the way you want to think.

And I've had to do this myself, I've over the years, I try to be better at thinking not what I want, but what is the front Well, of course what I want, you know, we all have our opinions, and they're all fair, but I also try to think of what the front office wants, right, what are they looking to accomplish?

Right?

How are they trying to think not only on today and for the future.

So that's why I do believe that there is at least some in the front office.

I think Alonzo would be the better bet, uh, for the reasons I already mentioned.

But that draft pick, these draft picks today, Listen, you might think, oh, it's just a draft pick, who cares, But listen, these guys that are coming out of high school college.

You just seeing a lot of college guys these days that are making it to the major leagues within their first year.

I mean, we just saw Peyton Totley, you know, just getting drafted last year out of TCU.

These guys are so advanced that these draft picks, they're getting more valuable every single year now.

And even if you get one out of high school.

I mean, these guys are so advanced at such a young age in today's game, just with all the technology that we have and just seeing these kids so young today, where you know, that is debatable in itself, you know, whether or not, you know, maybe maybe they're pushing these kids a little too hard.

But in the ends, a lot of these guys coming out of high school, man, they're just looking great.

And uh, you know, look at Marcella Meyer key example right there, right, Roman Anthony, Roman Anthony coming out of high school.

I mean, these guys they're getting to the major leagues quicker, so these draft picks, they are getting more valuable every single year.

So that's why I do personally believe that there are there's a strong contingency that would prefer pedal on So I guarantee you there's gonna be people there too, even the people that would like to have pedal Onzo that would still love to have Kyle Schwarber.

I see people all the time say, well, why not both, Let's get both?

Hey, not just chocolate, not just vanilla, Let's get the does Wendy's do do the swirl where they combine it?

You know?

Those are those are good too.

That's usually what I end up doing.

Why not both, Let's get both.

But you're probably not gonna get both.

That'd be great.

Kind of makes me think twenty eleven.

Sorry to bring up bad memories, but Adrian Gonzalez Carl Crawford, my goodness.

I mean obviously that didn't work out, but still at the time it was very exciting.

Could they do both?

I guess of course you could, but will they probably not?

Guarantee there's a lot of people that would love to have Kyle Schwarber.

I think there's there's so many things that he also brings to the table.

He just brings obviously the power, right, but just easy power, you know.

And he's got that left handed power that fits perfectly at Famway Park with a deep, bright field, and he's shown he can play there.

He just brings a good clubhouse mentality.

He's always good in the community.

Everyone just loves Kyle Schwarber.

Right, He's a guy any team would want to have on your team, even if he's just daching every day.

Right.

I think he's an age well, I really think they're I'm not gonna say he's David Ortiz by any means, of course, no one's David Ortiz, but I see him aging well into his thirties because he just has that easy power and he has that good plate discipline.

You hear a lot where people, you know, they say, oh, these power hitters, they fall off right.

Well, the difference was Schworber.

Yes, there is you know, some swing and miss there, but the guy just sees the strike zones so well, and he just flicks the bat out there if he sees a pitch that he likes.

He's just swinging and it's probably gone right.

His play discipline is very good.

Guys like that where they have a good understanding of the strike zone, just how these pictures work.

They tend to do very well.

You saw it with Nelson Cruz, Jim Tomy, another Hall of Fame example.

Right, those guys in their thirties still were just so productive.

I see Kyle Schwarber being that way.

But Alonso, I definitely see why people in the front office would prefer him.

And actually David Ortiz gave his thoughts as well when asked, Hey, who would you rather have Poppy?

You want Kyle Schwarber or you want Pete Alonzo said, here, either way you can be satisfied.

You're talking about two monsters.

But if I had to pick one, because I have Roman Anthony as a left handed batter, I would go with a right handed bat.

There are a lot of left handed power pictures coming out of the bullpen, which with these guys, they don't really care, but you know, opponents, they're gonna be doing the matchups when you have two lefties, one behind the other.

I think we've loaded up really well with lefties one right handed power hitter to take advantage of the Monster, it'll be a plus and you know, yeah, I definitely see that as well.

Even with Kyle Schwarber, you still make that work.

But he is right, they do have a lot of lefty thumpers.

Again, No, Rea, that doesn't mean you don't go pursue Schworber if he's there, obviously, but I understand what he's saying here.

He brings a little bit more balance.

He also mentioned, you know, bringing back Bregman as well, So again, either way it doesn't really matter, but interesting to you know, for Poppy to lean a bit more towards Pete Alonzo there, so we'll see what ends up happening.

Right.

Also, the title for today's show here on the screen on YouTube, slow Burn getting warmer.

That's how it feels right now.

It feels like there's stuff there, but it's not fully ignited, which obviously still early in the off season.

GM meetings are done, right, people have kind of digested that the awards are out of the way, so you're gonna start to see things heating up.

But you're starting to see these little flickers, right, and I feel like people are getting antsy.

Am I the only one getting that feeling, like if I'm on Twitter.

If I'm looking around, I just see antsiness and I feel like, and that's kind of where like last offseason, there were so many different angles to talk about with the Red Sox offseason, but this one, you know exactly what they need, right, you need the two key things, the starting picture two and the power bat.

And it's like, I think we're all just like we know who the targets are, and I feel like we're just kind of running around in circles a little bit because there's really not too much to really talk like, I don't say not talk about, but there's not really many lanes you can go down.

It's like, okay, Powerheader, Shore Burro or Alonso number two in the rotation, all right, Joe, Ryan Freddrick Barlta, Dylan Ceas maybe right.

So it just feels like we're just waiting for something to just start charning a little bit more.

You know, I'm sensing that antsiness across Red Sox Nation.

What have we got here?

In the chat?

Mad King Tyler?

Get that Neapolitan ice cream?

I do like Neapolitan.

It's a classic flavor.

I would say with me, if I were to go with a classic, you know.

I'm actually, I would say an ice cream connoisseur, right, I actually I don't do the briers.

I don't do eaties very often.

Unless it's on sale, maybe I'll go get it.

But I actually like going to these different scoop shops around me.

Right, there's some pretty good ones around me.

I like going for the I guess the what do you call it?

The upper class ice creams.

I like to go to these different places, you know.

I like to look for the more advanced ice creams out there.

But if I were to go for a classic cookies and cream all day, that's the right way to go in my opinion.

You can't go wrong with cookies and cream.

It's just always good cookie dough.

I'll be in the mood for that sometimes, but I just I'll never not like cookies and cream.

It's always so good.

Corbin and the Chat, what are they gonna do with Nate Lowe?

Haven't heard anyone to talk about him?

I mean really, it's he's not the main target right now.

I think there is.

They're are bigger fish to fry.

I've been using that term a lot lately, that phrase a lot, But really, I mean he's kind of he's so low on the totem pole right now.

I just think after the bad season that he had, he's gonna have to wait a little while.

And I think he's he's got to wait for this market to develop more and he's got to wait for guys to go off the board.

So Phil, how you doing, go Pats?

How about the Pats last night?

How about the Pats?

Gotta love that man.

Pats are looking good.

There's a lot of people out there doubting the Pats.

We'll see they're looking good though, looking good.

Good win for my fantasy Well, not a win for my fantasy team.

But hey, Henderson, give me a few tds last night.

I got a lot of points from that.

I'm feeling pretty good, feeling good about my chances for fantasy this week.

I gotta start putting some wins together because I think I'm about like five hundred right now.

I'm five and five.

I gotta make that push for the playoffs, So Drake May Henderson, Hey, they gave me some good points.

Anyway, We're talking Red Sox everyone.

If you can hit the like button for me, subscribe if you're new.

We're gonna take a quick break, quick word from our sponsor, I'll be right back.

Speaker 2

Ft alrighty, let's get back to it here, shall we, and let's shift away from the lineup.

Let's get to the rotation here and eventually the bullpen.

But first, the starting pitching latest for the Red Sox, And well, like I said at the start of the show, you're getting some hesitancy out there in the early going.

We've been talking about ever since the season ended, right, ever since the postseason run, even though it was short, since that ended, we've been talking about, all right, who are they gonna get for the number two?

We need a number two.

We saw it right before our eyes, Garrett Crochet.

He was amazing.

But after that, the Red Sox felt flat.

When it came to the pitching.

They had to go with Connolly early, who was making what was it his fifth major league start up to that point.

That was obviously a big weakness.

But you know, we're all talking about you know, Joe, Ryan's the that's the big name, that's the popular name.

Ever since the deadline, you've been hearing other names as well, all right, Mackenzie Gore, Paul Taboni connection, possibly Freddie perraulta he's out there, you know, Sandy al Contro with the Marlins.

You got dudes, right, maybe even the reds right, maybe you know, Hunter Green, that was a name that popped up a little early that maybe he could be a candidate.

Guys like Angel through Abbott possibly coming off a good year, a lot of guys.

But what we're hearing as of late is hesitancy, right or teams that seem to not be really willing to deal.

There're starters that are getting closer to free agency, which is usually the norm when it comes to you know, these smaller market, mid market teams where there you know, a guy is a year away from free agency, a couple of years away from free agency, and that's kind of the norm right where they Hey, they get back value, they get ahead of it, get back some good young players in a solid package.

Like the White Sox with Garrett Crochet, there was no reason to hang on to them.

But we've been hearing lately when it comes to Minnesota Twins.

Falve he talked with MLB Network a couple of days ago saying, you know, it's not really any sort of I'm paraphrasing, but not really any urgency to move either Joe Ryan or Pablo Lopez.

He's actually talking lately about adding to this Twins team.

And I know I've been on the record here saying maybe maybe I'm just being silly, Maybe I'm maybe my potato brain is really kicking in here.

And I know the Twins they made a lot of moves at the deadline.

Maybe I'm biased.

I just like a lot of the Twins younger, younger players that they have, both on the position player side of things and the pitching side of things.

I honestly feel like they could be one of those pesky teams next year where they're you know, in the mix.

You know, they could be a team that makes a run, kind of like the Marlins right where they just kind of came out of nowhere this year, and but they got you know, some solid, good, solid young players and they were just right there.

You know, look at that looking at the Cincinnati Reds.

I mean you saw, you know, at one point it looked like the Reds were down and out for the count, the Mets are gonna be getting in.

All of a sudden, the Mets they free feil.

You know, they just completely fell off a cliff and all of a sudden, the Reds are in the postseason.

Right.

I feel like the Twins could be that kind of a team because they have a lot of pitching depth, sure, younger players, and they just sold off a lot of guys, but guys that I think could make them at least somewhat competitive.

Not saying, you know, one of the best teams in the league, but a team that could be a pesky one team that maybe could have a bit of a bit of a dog in them a little bit.

So I understand where teams now, you know, especially when you got the three wild card spots, you know, they want to hang on to these guys, right because hey, if you make a run or if you get in, anything can happen.

Right So now, anyway, I'm rambling here, But the Twins, I'll talk about Joe Ryan here in a second.

Lately, pushing the brakes, pumping the brakes when it comes to trading Joe Ryan or Pablo Lopez.

Same thing with the Brewers.

The president of the Brewers has been coming out lately saying, uh, yeah, hey, uh you know, we like Freddy Perraultz.

Yeah, sure, we trade a Corbin Burns, you know, Devin Williams, Josh hater.

But Freddy Peralta, Hey, he's he's under ten million bucks.

He's a good picture.

We like Freddy Peralta right, and of course obviously they like Freddy Parolta.

They signed him to that extension back in twenty twenty to buy out a year of his free agency.

It was at a year or two.

I can't remember exactly, but saying here, Freddy is certainly in that conversation where the smallest market in the league.

But saying it seems that they would prefer to keep Peralta in the blue and yellow.

They don't give me the exact Oh, here it is, he said Matt Arnold.

I anticipate him being part of our team moving forward.

You know, I know Freddy Peralta, he is.

He is definitely involved with that organization.

When they opened up their International Training Development Center.

You know, Freddy Parolta was right there right when they opened that fit.

He was in that whole thing when they were using the scissors on the on the red ribbon right there.

So you know they like Freddy Pearol to there, and he loves being with the Brewers organization.

If there was ever a time for the Brewers to pump out the check book, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was, you know, Freddy Pearol.

So that was a guy they signed to an extension.

So either way, you know they're looking like they're at least as of right now, pumping the brakes same thing Hunter Green Nick Krawl downplaying the chances of a Hunter Green trade set here.

It's a hard one to actually say, Hey, we're going to trade the guy that has a chance to be the ace of your staff and the top of the rotation guy going into the postseason.

We're looking to figure out how to get better.

But right now that's not on the table.

So you got guys here that are running these teams saying, hey, we don't want to give up the ace of our staff, right But Ken Rosenthal, he had a little something on this today on foul Territory.

He did talk about this.

But if you do want to see that and you are watching this on Nesson to see the rest of the show, you're gonna have to come over to YouTube Monster Territory and see what I have to say because we are out of time on Nesson, but Nesson viewers, thank you for watching.

I'll talk to you next time.

But here we go.

Here's cam Rosenthal.

Where do you see this market going?

Speaker 4

And are there other names that are not are clearly below Schooble, but have not been pushed.

Speaker 2

Out there yet.

Speaker 3

Well, this is an interesting conversation going on right now, and it was going on at the meetings about which starting pictures might actually get traded.

And I wrote about this in a notes column earlier this week.

So the Tigers are saying they don't want to trade Trek Spooble.

The Brewers are saying, we're not trading Freddie Peralta.

Of course, Paul Skens is not getting traded.

Even the Twins with Joe Ryan are saying we'd like to build around Joe Ryan rather than just pedal him.

There are some teams that believe teams that are interested in these pictures, that these other clubs, the clubs with the starting pitchers, are merely posturing, and that at this appropriate time they will certainly open up the conversations to a greater extent than they are now.

And in the Tiger's case, for instance, it's just a matter of Okay, we'll play hard to get, play hard to get, and then boom, strike a big deal that could happen.

But the Tigers, from what I understand, what they're saying, at least right now, and It might be bs for lack of a better phrase, but what they're saying right now is we want to win in our last year with Trek Schouble.

We do not want to trade him, and it would send a pretty bad message to their fan base if after two years of making the playoffs with Schooble being the centerpiece of the team, that suddenly they shipped him out for pieces that probably wouldn't be having the same kind of immediate impact.

So I actually believe the Tigers likely will not trade Trek Scooble in some of these other cases, I do wonder if trades ultimately will occur.

I also believe Peralta is not going to move.

The Brewers have been public and adamant about that.

But again we'll see as the winter progresses.

Once the free agents come off the board from bra Valdez, Ranger Suarez, Dylan Cees, once those top guys are no longer available, then the pressure might mount on those teams to make trades from the teams that got shut out in free agency.

Speaker 2

Alright, So, Ken Rosenthal, the big thing that he said there was the leverage card that these teams might be pulling here right, playing hard to get posturing.

That happens every offseason, right, especially in the early going here, and it could very well these teams are they're just setting a high price, right or you know, because that's what teams do.

They don't want to just give up their guys for pennies, right, They don't want to just let these eyes go.

My thinking here, and I've posted about this the last couple of days, and I've said this a few times here on the show.

I do wonder if the Red Sox maybe missed their chance, at least missed a better chance.

I'm not saying they won't get Joe Ryan or they won't have a chance to, but it felt like at the deadline they had a really good opportunity to pull something off, right, and they just I don't know who knows what exactly happened, but it didn't end up happening right now.

Again, I'm not saying it can't happen, but I feel like that chance of the deadline was an ultimate chance because now other teams are involved.

If he if he is available, right and they are, you know, they're just posturing here, and if the Twins are gonna be willing to trade him in the end, you know, and they're saying, no, we're not gonna move him, you know, but the other teams out there.

I'm not saying the Red Sox can't get aggressive.

But then, you know, maybe a team like the Mets, if Trek schoobl is not gonna be a guy that can acquire or Freddie Paroltz is not going to be available, do the Mets all of a sudden say, hey, you know what, we need a guy to go at the top of this rotation.

Hey we got we got a Joonah Toong over here, we got Brandon Sproute over here, we got someone like a Jet Williams.

Speaker 4

You know, like.

Speaker 2

Depends on what's you got to wait for the dominos to fall.

There's really no answering.

You know.

I really hope the Red Sox do get Joe Ryan.

I really do.

I think he fits perfectly, not just because of the good numbers that he put up, but I think his profile fits really well with the Red Sox.

When you take a look at the bat ball profile, a lot of the line drives fly balls, they go, they go out to center field and right field.

Obviously you got Setti Willier out there.

If Willier is still with the team and SETI of course, but the dimensions based off of the batted ball profile that he's given up, they favor him very well.

Doesn't give up a lot of pulled balls, so you know you've got a wicked sweeper, got good life on the fastball.

I just think that's a guy that can really fit very well behind Crochet.

But there's gonna be other teams, and if the Twins are gonna play hard to get well, of course the Red Sox they can up their game, but maybe the Mets up there game too, and they get to a point where the Red Sox they're not gonna think it's worth it.

I'm just saying I'm always gonna be open to multiple ways of thinking.

I'm not gonna sit here and say, oh, the Red Sox they're gonna get Joe Ryan.

No, I'm not gonna be I'm not gonna play the biased game because I'm always because I see a lot of different podcasts out there where they'd be like, oh, the Red Sox need to get this guy, or any podcast so that matter that's talking about their own team, Oh we need to go get this guy.

This guy is the other team going to be willing to meet you halfway right, You have to think about both sides at the end of the day.

Let's say the Red Sox and the Mets.

I'm just thinking out loud right now.

Let's say the Red Sox and the Mets put down very equal offers, both in terms of value.

It's gonna come down to what the Twins prefer.

None of us sitting here right now, we can play armchair GM all we want.

We don't know what the Twins are going to prefer.

We can take a look at, you know, past guys they've acquired.

We can take a look at stats to maybe you know, one example that I'm talking about the last couple of years, the last few years, actually the Twins they've thrown a lot of change ups.

They actually rank very high when it comes to throwing off speed pitches.

Could that maybe be where maybe they prefer a guy who has a good change up, you know what I mean, or good off speed pitches.

I don't know.

There's no way of knowing what the Twins' preference is going to be at the end of the day.

Will that even be a big deal in the end, you know, if we're offering a guy like Connolly, earlier Peyton Totally, for example, but the Mets are offering Jonahtong, Brandon Sproute.

I mean, really kind of getting back to what we were saying earlier, chocolate Vanilla.

I feel like you can't go wrong with either of those prospects.

It's gonna come down to, what are the twins pervert developmentally?

I don't know, so, yeah, of course I would love for the Red Sox to get Ryan.

I think if it's great, but it takes two to tango.

Both teams are gonna have to match up, right, So we don't know.

But as of right now, the twins, they seem like they're at least as of right now, they are good hanging on a Ryan.

That could definitely be posturing.

That could very well be, Hey, no want to we want to hang on to him because you want to compete.

But listen, like the old saying goes, anyone can be had at a price, right, Maybe the Red Sox, maybe they blow the other teams out of the water, and that they blow the Twins out of the water, saying, hey, we really want him, We'll give you this guy, this guy, this guy, this guy, and I will say this.

Could it end up taking more to get Joe Ryan than it took for Garrett Crochet.

If you're looking at it from a leverage point of view, I mean, the White Sox pretty much were no doubt going to move Crochet.

Well, the Twins all right now, I mean they're saying, we got some guys here that we think can help us compete.

We don't have to move Ryan.

They don't.

I mean, realistically thinking they don't have to move him.

They don't.

The White Sox it would have been stupid to hang on to Garrett Kroschek.

Would have made no sense for them to hang on to Ryan.

At least you can make that kind of an argument, at least some kind of an argument.

So the Twins have more leverage in this situation, So it might end up costing more to get Ryan than Crochet.

Just saying anyway, I'm rambling here, but don't fear.

Let's say Joe Ryan, even Mackenzie Gore I think could be a possibility.

I'll talk about him in a second.

Freddy Parral to the guys on the Reds.

Right, let's say these guys just they're not gonna be available.

Hypothetically speaking, Let's just look in that world.

All right, well you have other options, Mackenzie Gore, you got the tabony connection.

I think you can make a very good argument that the Nationals should move him.

The only thing that's been holding me back when it comes to Gore is do the Nationals maybe want to take their time a little bit.

We saw Craig Breslo come into the fold, and he, you know, he's kind of more conservative, right, took his time a little bit.

But then you saw Heim Bloom come into the Red Sox, and Ownership basically said, all right, we got a trade Mookie, right, David Price as well, you know, get rid of those get rid of those guys off our payroll.

Right, So you can go either way.

What do the Nationals want to do.

I don't know, but there is a I think a good argument to move him, because I do think they need to reset things a little bit and Gore, and yes, he was part of the package that they got back for Juan Soto, but hey, they still got James Wood c j Abrams there.

So it's not like the Wan Sodo trade is gonna be a big old wasted opportunity for them even if they trade away Gore, because they still got a couple of pretty solid guys.

Even if they end up moving c.

J.

Abrams for crying out loud, they would still have James Wood right.

So, I think the Nationals could definitely use a reset and trading.

Gore could bring back a solid package for Toibony to kind of get things moving in the direction that he wants to go.

So I think Gore could be an option there.

Obviously there's a familiarity with him in the Red Sox.

Or I'll say this, I'll say this.

Could they simply go to free agency?

Why not?

You know, let's say the trade market is not gonna give them what they're hoping to get Joe Ryan, Freddie Perol to So let's say McKay goes elsewhere.

Why couldn't you go to the free agent market.

I feel like not a lot of us are talking about free agency.

I honestly think Dylan Cees could be a guy.

That's a guy they've shown interest in the last couple of years.

Why couldn't they?

Now, I know the Red Sox historically have been hesitant to give out long term contracts for pictures.

They've done it a couple of a few times.

David Price, right, John Lackey, Dice kme Atsuzaka.

They've done it a few different times.

Speaker 3

Very rare though.

Speaker 2

Could this be another time where the Red Sox I think they would prefer to trade.

And even Sam Kennedy himself, who was on the show not too long ago, he was hinting at hoping to make trades because they have a lot of guys, they have a lot of capital within the farm system to try and make a deal.

That's very obvious, right, But if that doesn't work out, I could totally see them getting aggressive for Dylan Sees.

They were aggressive for Max Freed last offseason.

It wasn't enough to get it done.

They did make the pivot to Crochet and they got that done, But could they maybe do an opposite pivot this time around trade market not really working out the way they want, they pivot a free agency.

Dylan Cee is a guy they've been looking at the last couple of years.

He's been popping up in trade rumors while he was with I believe with the White Sox and the Pops Race, right.

I think two separate times the Red Sox popped up so Cease.

I don't know about Framber Valdez to be completely honest with you, I think the Red Sox, you know, they're in a competitive window now.

I don't think they're even willing to risk any sort of bad harmony within the Red Sox locker room at this point.

Framber with a cross up situation, I don't know about that.

You know, after that it does kind of fall off, you know.

Could you look at someone like Michael King, Ranger Suarez, Zach Gallon.

There is tatsia am I coming out of Japan.

He could be intriguing.

I can see the Red Sox like in the especially the breaking and the off speed stuff that he has.

I can see the Red Sox being intrigued there.

But if not Michael King, possibly I think he could very well go back to the Pog's rays take the QO had a down year last year with injuries.

Rangers Suarez, but you know he's got some durability issues.

Could they take a chance on Gallon had a better second half last year.

But I keep circling back to Dylan Cease.

I do I keep thinking about him.

I know the Cubs are gonna be out there looking for guys.

I think the Giants make a lot of sense for him.

Astros have been connected with him.

But listen, you know you saw how quickly the Red Sox pivoted last offseason.

Max Fried signed with the Yankees and what was it a day or two later, Garrett Crochet.

They made things happen very quickly and could cease being out.

I'm not going to count it at at all, not at all, So we'll see.

But right now, the starting pitching trade market is looking rather cold.

It can definitely heat up, though.

One more thing to talk about here tonight.

If well, I didn't even say if either way, Let's say the Red Sox adds starting pitching, you know, trade market, free agency.

However they do it.

Could they add to the bullpen?

I think, even if they add a guy for the rotation, which I think they will or not, I don't think that's an option at this point.

I think the Red Sox are going to add someone, it's just a matter of who.

But could they also add to the pen?

Well, why not?

I would love a super pen, a super bullpen.

That could be interesting, though the idea is further down their list of priorities.

The Red Sox are considering the addition of a high leverage reliever to create a version of a super bullpen.

People familiar with the club's thinking set.

And remember we got to report the other day the Red Sox or at least one of the many teams to show some interest in Devin Williams.

And you know I talked about this.

I think the Red Sox could use more strikeouts in this bullpen.

I believe they were eighteenth overall and strikeouts per nine when it came to the relief pitching.

You got Chapman back there, striking guys out left and right.

But there is I think more strikeouts to be desired in this bullpen, and I don't see why they couldn't.

Honestly, I'll tell you I've always been a big fan of Ryan Helsley.

I just love the big V loo that he's got.

I do love it.

I would love that.

Could you imagine Chapman, Whitlock and Hellsley at the back end.

I know Hellsley had the downtime of the Mets, but whatever he was with the Cardinals his entire career, he went to a new organization first time didn't work out right.

I'm not really worried about that.

I think it's a blip on the radar.

To be honest with you, I would love Ryan Hells like big Velo there from the right side Whitlock.

You know, I think that that would be such a great combo with Hells like Big v Loo and then Whitlock.

Speaker 1

Right.

Speaker 2

He's also gonna pump some good Vello in there, but he's got the nasty sinker right good slider as well.

That'd be lethal.

Devin Williams Here's I said this not too long ago.

I just wonder after the up and down year that he had with the Yankees, a part of me thinks if he is one of those guys that will thrive better in a smaller market.

And that's not a knock against him, it's not at all.

I very well could be wrong, but like you know, you've seen it over the years with some guys where they go to the Yankees or even go to the Red Sox whatever, big market team, and they were great where they were before.

Yeah, look at Carl Crawford I mentioned him earlier, that perfect example, right.

You see guys go to one of these big market teams and they just have these struggles right.

Speaker 1

Under.

Speaker 2

If Devin Williams is maybe in that mold a little bit where he's so good with the Brewers all right, numbers wise, Williams would be great.

He would definitely give you a lot of strikeouts.

I just wonder he does get a lot of ground balls, So I do feel like his profile, the batleball profile off of him would work at Family Park very well.

He just I don't know what it is.

He just scares me a little bit.

I feel like going to a bullpen like Detroit's or San Francisco's where he's got a little bit more room to play without there he does get a lot of ground balls, but still you can make a couple more mistakes over in San fran and Detroit with those nice ballparks, and you know you got more room for error out there.

I feel like one of those teams would be very good for him, and both teams could use bullpen up anyway.

Devin Williams, I wouldn't be mad if the Red Sox got him, but part of me would worry a little.

I would say, Ryan Helsley, whatever, that guy just I would love that.

But I do think the Red Sox need to add someone to this bullpen.

I've said it.

I could see them going with getting another lefty option out there on the free agent market.

You know, Justin Wilson could bring him back, Caleb Tillbarr possibly, you know, I could see something like that.

I gotta look more at the lefty relievers that you could maybe get in a trade.

But maybe there could be something there.

I see you in the chat, Mad King, I low key want Tyler Rogers.

Yeah, I mean he'd be crafty.

I think that'd be pretty fun.

It could be fun.

But yeah, super pen maybe.

But let's see what you guys are saying here in the chat.

I did see a few of you asking a couple of things.

God's gift, Mike, what do we offer for Ryan at the deadline?

So I feel like I've heard a couple of different things.

I think early or totally came up.

I think Rob Bradford had said Peyton totally and then in a package, I don't know, something along those lines.

David Young, Robert Robert, Robbie.

What about Brian Wu went to the went to the bullpen in the playoffs?

I mean, Brian Wu.

It depends on what the Mariners want to do.

Again, this is kind of the perfect example of it takes two to tango.

The Mariners for so long have just not wanted to give up starting pitching.

Maybe this time around, after being eight outs away from a World Series, maybe they make maybe they have a change of heart.

A serting fish huge No, no thanks on Framber.

I agree.

I just think Framber he's got to go somewhere where they got a catcher where he's the guy, you know, like the guy you're just not gonna mess with, right, like J T Rail Muto right, No one's gonna screw around with rail Muttart right right, one of the most respected catchers in the game.

Yeah, that's kind of where I'm at with that.

I saw someone ask about Sandy all Contra.

I can't find exactly who said it.

Oh, oh for Mike, how about Sandy?

Is Miami still willing to move him?

I think that's another guy where the Marlins looked really good in the second half, and their biggest strength right now is the rotation.

You know, I just wonder after the up and down season that he's had, he's gonna lose value.

Teams are gonna use that as leverage.

Sure, he had the better second half, but teams are gonna say, well, well, he had a lot of issues in the first half.

I don't know.

We don't know.

We really want to go that far for him.

I don't know is he fully back yet, I don't know.

So I wonder if the Marlins would get enough that they would think is the right return I don't know, and then just go into the season see what they got.

Maybe they end up being pretty good and not they they can move them at the deadline.

I'm not convinced Sandy's gonna get moved.

I'm just not I don't know.

I don't know, Hunter Baldwin, where do you think Bregman is on their big board?

I think right now Bregman is up there.

But I think right now they got their eyes on other things, right.

I think they're just gonna wait out the market for Bregman.

I think Boris is going to realize that at some point.

That's my prediction.

I could be very wrong.

I just feel really good about bregman Man.

I know that that could shoot me in the foot, right, that could absolutely blow up in my face.

But I've said it many times.

I think there's a market form, but I don't think there's a strong market form.

I just think the Red Sox check off so many boxes.

I'm not gonna sit here and say the Red Sox or you know, they have them just number one on their list, but I think they're comfortable putting them a little further down, right, I think, you know, putting even third on their list, right, Alonzo Schwarber picture behind Grochet and then uh Bregmant.

You know, I think they're willing to wait, and I think they're okay with that.

So you know, you saw it in the during the season, I was saying all the whole season, come on, get the extincsion done.

Let's just get this wrapped up.

Let's get this over with by then the Red Sox, the fact that they didn't do it, I think they feel very comfortable about it.

And just like with you know, JD Martinez, same thing last off season, right, they waited it out, and I think they're gonna do it again.

That's just my prediction.

Anyway, everybody, that's all I got here for Friday night here tonight.

I want to thank you for joining me to see what my potato face had to say here tonight.

We'll be back probably Monday.

Because we got no Pats this Sunday, we can actually we can kind of breathe a little bit.

That might be upsetting actually to a lot of the football fans out there, right because you just like football on your Sunday.

So now it's like it's almost like you don't know what to do with your hands if you're a football fan, because there's no Patriots on Sunday.

They already played, So find something else to do.

Go have some fun.

Everybody, I'm out of here.
