FSU Stuns Alabama + Ohio State Stuffs Texas & LSU Beats Clemson

Episode Transcript

Speaker 1

I know Memo taught me that wise men make observations in week one, while foolish men draw conclusions.

But I mean sometimes sometimes you just kind of need to act foolish.

I'm really close to the edge, guys, I'm really close to falling over and saying some irresponsible things were jam packed.

We're high top a paranoid downtown Nashville, Tennessee.

At least the population of me pretty paranoid on this Sunday, August thirty first, the Year Overlaw twenty twenty five.

Because I'm like Jim Ross at WrestleMania seventeen.

I thought I knew he said, he thought he knew Stone Cold, Steve Austin.

I thought I knew some of these teams.

Alabama, I'm looking at you.

I thought I knew Alabama.

Maybe I didn't.

Maybe I didn't.

The only thing I asked when I pick you to win the National Championship is don't embarrass me.

And they embarrassed me.

We've got to embarrass them on the show today, Ohio State, what a performance.

I was at the shoe yesterday.

Whoever built Ohio Stadium to where one side of my face gets sun burnt and the other side doesn't sucks.

It's not up to me.

It should not be up to me to turn.

It shouldn't be up to me to go sideline to sideline.

No, No, the stadium should just be built where I get equal sun.

I didn't know and didn't necessarily get the outcome I thought i'd get yesterday.

That's okay, though, That's why we play the games and then we react to them.

We're going to talk about LSU Clemson.

Great way to cap the night.

Brian Kelly just plants the flag in Week one on the road, no less.

Some said it couldn't happen.

Some thought it wouldn't happen.

A lot to dive into a lot of overreactions going on as well.

I will happily participate in some of those overreactions, no doubt.

On the show today, and we got the week two tour announcement and all the while, this show is happening at noon Central, not because this is normal normal this normally this would be at seventh Central, but because we've got more college football games.

If you're watching, what are we about two hours from South Carolina Virginia Tech kicking off that game under a seven point number.

Now South Carolina Lane six and a half.

Hoops knows something out there, and man, we got a Jampack show.

We got Miami Notre Dame tonight.

Okay, Jackson, Tennessee has tuned in Chicago, Illinois, Bend, Oregon, Dublin, Ohio.

As you have seen and you will continue to see, you got to be following on the socials to get all the access to everything.

Friday Night Lines was great.

We are sitting at three and three right now for the Roman Noudle Express pending the Miami game.

We handed out six more winners on Friday Night Lines that I myself did not add as best bets, which is like a weird thing.

We did last year too, where we were seventy percent on games, we didn't officially circle.

So at Josh pat CFP, you got to be following on the socials also.

We were on the sidelines yesterday at Ohio Stadium for Texas Ohio State.

And we will build where we'll be on the sideline this Saturday, but I haven't told you where yet, but we will soon.

In the meantime, I got a stack of papers in my hand that have in some cases some very happy information and in other cases some very tragic information on them.

So let's just let's dive in.

I know a lot of you sick, twisted, sadistic types out there who just love to watch someone wallow in misery.

You're here today, and you're gonna get what you want.

You're gonna get what you want.

In the interest of appeasing everyone, we will deliver man Texas Ohio State was incredible yesterday.

Defensive struggle.

I know some of you don't like that, but it was one of those games.

Early on, I was standing there and I'm looking at it and I'm saying, doesn't feel like either of these teams is gonna deliver a knockout blow per se.

It feels like one of those twelve round maybe even the old school fifteen round prize fights, just a heavyweight fight, and you can tell this is probably gonna go to decision.

No one's gonna pull away by three or four touchdowns.

It's not gonna be a splattering, none of that.

And that is what played out.

So if that's what's gonna play out, which is pretty much the style of game I expected, then I'm thinking to myself, well, let's see who has the edge at quarterback.

I think Texas is gonna have the edge.

Who has the edge staff wise, Well, obviously Ryan Day's having to replace both coordinators and sark is not so clearly, I think Texas has that edge.

Which team should be hungrier, Probably not the one that just won the national title, right, Probably the one that got knocked out by the team that went on to win the national championship.

So you would think you got all these edges on the side of the Texas Longhorns.

And that is not the way the game played out.

As you know, box scores will lie to you, but the ball does not lie, nor does fall Texas.

Let's just pretend we pull the box score up.

Huh three point thirty six to two oh three total yardage advantage.

They out rushed them one sixty six to seventy seven.

They hold Ohio State to two point three yards per carry.

Ohio State is three of twelve on third down.

Ohio State has one explosive pass play, zero runs of ten plus yards and they win anyway.

Why cause the opportunistic and they're very hard nosed defensively, and they were exceptionally coached.

That's what it turns out.

Ohio State is home field didn't hurt him either, because after all that, Ohio State still had fourteen zip in the fourth quarter and it was really really fun to watch.

Game flew by Classic Big ten Vibes.

Game flew By Texas was one of five on fourth downs.

It is plagued them getting all the way down to the one yard line.

They had two drives get inside the five yard line and came away with zero points on those.

It's just me mall would call that bow in your neck.

Ohio State bowed their neck when they needed to and Texas did not.

This wasn't some definitive performance either way.

There's a lot of hyperbolic ways people loved talking about this game.

I actually thought Sark phrased it or presented it properly in his post game because he wasn't nearly as panicked as most Texas folks are.

I mean, I had I had one Texas fan who shall remain nameless, Texas grad, not just a fan Texas grad who shall remain nameless.

This said, Man, we're hoping to sit in twenty ten all over again.

I hope so too.

For your sake and from mine, I got you going to Atlanta.

This was not a conference game.

Texas notably still undefeated in conference play.

But we like to talk about the winners first, So I would like to talk to you about how big a staff when I felt like this was for Ohio State.

Of course staff Matt Patrici is not on the field.

No, Brian Hartline didn't take a single snap.

But just I don't think people understand how hard it is.

They don't understand how community, They don't understand how hard it is period to just coach at the highest level, play at the highest level.

Yeah, okay, all that, but we know all that.

Think about what Ryan Day just did.

He went from being questioned about whether he was the right guy for the job as late as early December of last year to going on to make the run they did in the playoffs, they win the national championship.

Then he loses a really high level offensive coordinator to the NFL Chip Kelly.

He loses an insanely high level defensive coordinator to an in conference opponent in Penn State, and he goes in.

He gets Matt patricia and he elevates Brian Hartline.

Now, mind you, this is the Ohio State coordinator position.

Pick which side, So he's got his pick of most anyone he wants.

So these are the guys he chose.

He chose to elevate Brian Hartline.

Brian Hartlin's paid his dues, He's served his time, he knows that program.

He's run a phenomenal position room for a long time, He's recruited very well for a long time, and he gets his shot to be the offensive coordinator.

Matt Patricia comes in and a lot of people looked at that and said, Matt Patricia like he's he's won in the NFL.

But out of all the available options, Matt Patricia and Ryan Day sat back and said, yep, no emotion, just yep, yep, these are the guys I'm gonna choose.

That's why.

That's why Texas comes in yesterday and they were made to look very average.

Texas is not average, guy, I promise you the coming weeks will bear that out.

Texas is not average.

Ohio State made them look that way because Ohio State's just really good.

They were ultra hungry, they were ultra disciplined, new quarterback, new coordinators, replacing a huge chunk of their roster off a championship.

The reason I'm harping on this is because of what logic and conventional wisdom and generic history tells you.

Logic, conventional wisdom, and generic history tells you a team that fits those categories win a title.

Most of those players are gone, including the quarterback and both coordinators.

And then you open at home against the team that is equally as talented as you and ultra hungry, and they haven't won anything and they're foaming the mouth.

It just should be a reality check for you, and instead you dealt a reality check.

Good for Ohio State, it's a starting point for this offense too.

You know, it's funny how if you have A and B scenarios it changes everyone's worldview.

So Ohio State scored what fourteen points?

Right?

They had two hundred and three total yards, they had eleven first downs, They were very limited on the ground, but they won.

You score fourteen and you win.

Everyone's happy.

You score fourteen and the other guy scores thirty and everyone's not happy.

But the point here is that's what's important.

It's important to win the game.

But the perspective on it now, since you won, and since you showed, hey, we can still play really really high level defense around here, is you buy your offense time.

Because I assume that this is the floor for them.

I assume they'll only get better running the ball.

It's a bold assumption, but I'm going to assume it because not many opponents are Texas defensively, so I assume that they'll slowly elevate, they'll slowly progress.

But here's what's fun about it.

When you play complimentary ball, you can afford to do that.

You can afford to do what you know you do at a really cold pool, and that is you can dip your toe in and then you slowly go into the knee and then all of a sudden it's up to your waist, and for some reason you tens up your shoulders, even though that does not make the water any warmer, and then eventually you just merge yourself.

Take that deep breath, submerge yourself.

Well, sometimes that has to be week one and you have to just dive in cause your defense can't stop anything.

But when you play high level defense like they can, you can afford to You can afford to slowly nurse a new quarterback along.

Now, eventually Julian sand will have to win a game for them.

In order for them to win the big ten or win a national championship.

That's the way football always is.

But he didn't have to do it yesterday.

That's good news, that's very good news.

That's encouraging to me.

So what about Texas.

I was disappointed in him.

I expected more from Texas offensively.

I was not part of that Arch for Heisman group.

I was not part of that group at all.

You'll remember on this show we sung quite a different tune than most of America did on Arch Manning having said that Arch has been around there for a long time and he's ultra talented, and I just flat out expected more, and I did not expect if Texas lost, for it to be reasons related to timing and accuracy and mechanics.

I'm not a quarterbacks coach, but even I'm standing there on the field watching him and saying, that doesn't look right.

Oh, that ball didn't even come out of his hand right, Look at the trajectory on the ball.

It was the kind of game from field level where if you were watching it, you did not have to see where the ball went.

I'll standing next to Will Compton yesterday and I had two different instances where the ball comes out of arch's hand, and you can say underthrown or overthrown.

You don't even have to be looking downfield.

You just tell what's coming out of his hand wrong.

So you can look at that two different ways.

I'm high on Texas, so I'm gonna choose to look at it optimistically, and I'm gonna choose to think that that guy is a really high caliber athlete.

Steve Sarkisian is a really high level, high caliber coach, so is his staff.

They're gonna get it right.

They're gonna get it right.

That's what I'm gonna choose to believe, because if they don't, that strips a Steve Sarkisian offense of everything I respect about it and people fear about it.

Accuracy and anticipation are musts.

Those are non negotiables.

Your quarterback has to have those.

And this isn't some guy you got off the portal scrap heap like Hypel.

Hypel of all people should have dealt with the problems yesterday that Sarkin arched it one faced Syracuse, one faced Ohio State on the road.

I grant you that, but I don't care who they were playing and where they were playing them.

You hold someone to fourteen in their own building, your Texas, and you got the kind of talent stacked on top of each other they do.

You gotta win the game.

You tell me, if you told me Friday, they're gonna give up fourteen?

Are you happy with that?

Absolutely?

I'm happy about that.

And you're gonna hold them two point three yards per carry?

Are you happy about that?

Absolutely?

I'm happy about that.

I'm gonna win.

I'm gonna win ten times out of ten if I'm Texas.

But I didn't.

I didn't, And I'll tell you the other thing that if I were going glass half empty on this, that concerns me is they're slower at receiver.

And that's pretty glaringly obvious.

That was something I heard whispers about out of fall camp, and I just kind of wanted to ignore it because speed is all relative.

Texas not being as fast as they were last year could still mean Texas is really fast.

But Arch had time to throw yesterday, and again I'm watching him and I'm thinking to myself, Man, there gotta be folks open with as much time as he has to throw.

And there were some guys he missed, but there weren't many guys open Ohio State just threw a blanket on them.

So I expect both of these teams to be there in the end.

I expect both of them to be right in contention for their conference races and playoff races and all that.

I just wonder, you know, if they see each other again, how different, how different a tune do you see?

We've seen this before.

Teams play at the beginning of the year, teams play at the end of the year, and you're saying, well, these feels like two It feels like a totally different matchup now than it did three or four months ago.

If they play again, are we saying that?

That's the first thing.

The second thing that stood out is there was such a high level of mutual respect between opponents here.

Pretty refreshing.

Really.

It's very obvious when one side respects the other as your competitive equal.

Now you want to rip their throat out, man, you want to dominate them, and you got no love lost for them.

But you can very very much have disdain for someone but also have respect for them.

And that was why there wasn't a whole lot of chippiness in this game.

Do you noticed there wasn't a whole lot of laundry on the field, not a ton of personal fouls.

It's just high level competition, pretty refreshing to watch.

So both of these teams have high floors.

I expect them to be there, but I could not get over how buttoned up, how disciplined, how hard nosed, and how fast Ohio State played.

And everything's new, virtually, everything's new.

So very encouraging.

Still think Texas will be fine, but was very very underwhelmed offensively.

So there's work to do.

They get paid a lot of money, both coaches and players to get the work done.

Quick trip fueled us, you know, they got us up there stop Friday.

On my drive up to Columbus in where was I Goodletsville?

I think Tennessee and the cold brew was on tap.

I took a picture.

I should have posted that.

I still think portions of America think that this is like figurative.

It's a euphemism when I talk about cold brew on tap.

No man, you go in there, you grab the plastic cup, you pull the handle, colbrew comes out.

It's amazing and you don't even have to be twenty one to drink it.

I wouldn't give it to the kids, but there's no law against it.

Jesse checked the laws.

I don't think there's a law against in Tennessee, at least there's not.

We get down different in Tennessee.

So quick trips fueling the the I just had every tour name rolled through my head, almost said whole new Saturday Tour, once upon a Saturday tour.

It's none of those this year.

It's the Fall Don't Lie Tour.

Now, yesterday we were at Ohio State, which begs the question, where are we going to be this Saturday?

Well, I will tell you right now.

The week two stop on the Fall Don't Lie Tour will take us to the great state of Oklahoma and we will go see Michigan versus Oklahoma in Norman, home of one Oklahoma football and two the National Weather Service and the Storms Prediction Center.

And we've got friends in both of those organizations.

So we look very much forward to this.

Now.

I got to tell you something for anyone out there upset thinking that this stop should have happened in your town, We're working on something.

That's all I'll say.

Oh, let me send let me press sen on this tweet right quick and post.

Okay, there we go.

That's Normally news we release on Sunday nights, but we released it today instead because we're doing a show in the middle of the afternoon.

Well, we have reached the portion of the show that many of you have tuned in for and look ahead of time.

I appreciate the live audience we have.

Some of you are here for the right reasons.

Some of you are here for nefarious reasons.

Some of you are here because you hate me.

I don't know why, but it's important that I love myself right now.

Because there's not gonna be much during this segment.

I just ask you to do this.

I'm about to put myself through a very very difficult time on air.

At the least, can you subscribe to the channel?

That's all I ask.

It's free, it's free.

Get you get to watch what, in terms of character, is a public execution here coming up momentarily.

I'm not gonna throw the bag over my head.

I'm not doing it.

I'm gonna look you in the eye unless Bradley takes that shot, in which case I'm gonna look straight ahead and pretend like no one's here.

Subscribe to the channel.

This is college football all year.

We have fun with it.

Although I'm not about to have fun, Bradley, don't include any of that in the video cut.

Florida State dunked on Alabama yesterday, thirty one to seventeen.

Now, sometimes there are upsets in college football and you look at them and you say, yeah, in retrospect, I should have seen it coming.

This is not one of those upsets.

I'm just completely and utterly stunned.

You're looking at someone who picked Alabama to win the national championship.

You might be thinking to yourself self, I wonder if he's changed his opinion on who's gonna win the national championship.

Buddy, I don't even know who's gonna beat Louisiana Mo Roe Saturday.

So yeah, yeah, I've changed my opinion on who may or may not win the national Championship.

Do you remember last year in Week zero when Florida State and Georgia Tech played each other and Florida State just marched right down the field on Georgia Tech and scored, and then the rest of their season was a disaster.

I ask you that because that is shockingly similar to how this game started for Alabama.

They just marched down the field, had fifty five rushing yards and route to the end zone.

They had twenty nine rushing yards the rest of the game.

Give me this piece of paper.

I should have popped the paper for that fifty five rushing yards opening drive, twenty nine the rest of the game.

It was bad, guys.

It was worse than bad.

It was a disaster.

You would never would have known which of these teams panicked and had to overhaul their staff and had to gut their roster and go wholesale changes out of the portal, versus which one thought they had their act together was looking forward to a lot of guys returning really really good coaching staff.

You never would have known which was witch because yesterday college football happened instead of well, candidly a pro wrestling match.

Speaking of pro wrestling, my goodness, did you see tests in retrospect?

I should have known something crazy was gonna happen because when they put Joe Tess on camera yesterday, tests looked like he was in dope Campbell and hats off.

Hats off to the environment they created.

That is the number one power rated play by play guy in the sport right now.

Why well, because he called a WrestleMania level main event yesterday at three point thirty Eastern time, But it looked like the night before he pulled off a successful operation somewhere in South America of questionable legality.

I was so so disappointed that one of the buttons found its way to the clasp midway through the broadcast, because, if anything, I wanted one more button to get undone.

So Tess had a great day yesterday, Florida State had a great day yesterday.

Most of America had a great day yesterday.

And do we do talk about winners first on the show?

So that is a rule around here.

We had a little debate internally, is this the biggest win of Mike Norvel's career.

Now, keep in mind this man has won a conference title.

There was not a conference title on the line yesterday, but the entire reputation of his program was, the entire reputation of him as a coach kind of was on the line.

Cause if this one goes sideways, there's no guarantee that it ever gets on the rails this year.

And remember they tapped out last year week one.

They're just dead on arrival and they never woke up.

And if that were to have happened again, who knows, Actually everyone knows.

Everyone knows what the talk would have been.

And not only did they win, it was resounding.

They won and they dominated.

They didn't win because Bama was mine as farll were turnovers.

They didn't win because it poured rain the whole day and it was just it was just like trying to get your hands on a greased pig to try and possess the football.

There was some weather, but they both played in it.

And man, they were so prepared, so much more prepared, so much better coach than Alabama, played with more passion and intensity than Alabama.

Just a bunch of stuff I didn't think i'd say, and so massive respect for Tommy Castellanos too.

One of the other rules we have here on the pet State campus is we do not mind if you talk as long as you're talking about someone you're gonna have to play.

That's just like I don't care if you talk about someone behind their back, as long as you're willing to fight them to their face.

Well, Tommy Castelano's straight up talk trash about Alabama, but Alabama was on the schedule, so that's fine.

And not only did he talk it, he played it.

He talked like a field general.

He talked like Tarzan, but he also played like Tarzan, which is fine.

Then you can beat your chest and scream as loud as you can possibly scream and let it echo all throughout the jungle.

That's what Tommy Castelonos did.

Now he's got t shirts to prove it, and I'd go buy five of them right now if I were you, because he was very prophetic, Tommy prophet, if you will, just a glaring difference in identity for Florida state history and conventional wisdom I was talking about in the Texas, Ohio State game history and conventional wisdom screamed to me.

When we were down there in the spring, we had Mike on the show.

He was talking about how he was very very sure that they made all the right moves, and I remember I came back and the next show we had, I said, you know, I really believe that he believes that.

Let's say he's right.

The shame of it would be, this is me talking a few months ago.

The shame of it would be if Mike's right, if he made all the right moves, they got all the right players in there, so personnel's right staffing, Tony White defensive coordinator, Gus maus On offensive coordinator.

He made all the right moves, but it takes some time that he won't be afforded.

That's what I said, would be a shame, because that's the way it's supposed to work.

You go and just put a bunch of new seeds in the ground.

They're not supposed to sprout week one, and they did.

I don't know how he watered him.

I don't know what fertilizer he used down there.

It's probably not government approved, but it worked.

Just pH it.

We got a big crop there already, the identity, just the energy, the passion, the fire, everything Bama didn't have Florida State did have because Florida State didn't have it last year.

And that was really what was disappointing about them last year, more so than just they lost games.

They quit.

They were a dead team.

And then I was left to wonder, like many others, Okay, if you're the head coach, if you're the face of the program and your program trots out a team that just quits, do you ever wash yourself of that?

We got our answer, Well, we got at least one week's worth of answer, and I'm pretty sure we're going to copy and paste it for several weeks thereafter.

Yes, the answer is yes this day and age.

I guess you can wash yourself of that.

The immediate change at the line of scrimmage was the most glaring.

They were second best a whole lot last year at the line of scrimmage, and there's just no way I would have believed they would have owned it both ways unless I saw it.

But I saw it yesterday and now I believe it.

We do something on this show once a week, every Sunday.

It's very special.

It's very, very unenviable a position to be in.

You don't ever want to find yourself in this spot.

Very few teams that find themselves in this spot go on to do great things.

If you're new around here, this is the Sarah McLaughlin Special.

Alabama five and five in their last ten games.

Now de Boor's fourth loss to an unranked opponent in fourteen games.

It took Sabin like two hundred and seventy games to get that far into his career before he lost four times to an unranked opponent.

Bama got out rushed two thirty to eighty seven fifty five of those eighty seven rush yards were on the first drive of the game.

By the way, four drives finished in FSU territory with zero points.

They scored on the opening drive.

They gave up twenty four unanswered.

They were eight of twenty two on third and fourth downs.

They were horrifically undisciplined again, eight penalties seventy yards, couple of them game changing in nature paper popper.

Alabama has not played a game under Kaylin de Boor where they had less penalties than the opponent.

Let me repeat it one more time for my fine friend back here.

They have not played a game under Deboor now in over a year where they had less penalties than the opponent.

Alabama is our Sarah McLaughlin special.

That's my preseason National Championship pick Alabama.

Sometimes you see it coming, I did not.

I went and watched this team practice in the spring, scrimmage in the spring.

I went and watch them scrimmage in the fall.

I came back and I didn't speak specifically, but I spoke generically about how good I felt about him when I watched them.

And I guess my eyes lied to me badly.

My eyes aren't the only lies that got eyed to or got lied to.

They had one run of ten plus yards, FSU had seven.

It's almost it's almost so earth tilting.

You really don't know what to think.

Like I thought Alabama obviously was a championship caliber team going in there.

I thought Florida State was very much going to be a work in progress even in the best of cases.

This warped my perspective so much.

I almost looked at it for Florida State afterwards and said, Alabama may be terrible.

Maybe we ought not get too excited about Florida State yet.

Like, think about what four quarters of football can do to one's perspective.

It's not healthy.

I look forward to it all year, but it's not healthy what this can do to you.

That's why Memo always said, predict in pencil, Joshua, predict in pencil.

It's okay to have predictions.

It's okay to have preseason rankings and power ratings.

You better write them in pencil, because what's on the other end of a pencil.

That's right, sir, Yes, that's right, ma'am.

An eraser, We can erase, but if you write in sharpie, and I'm afraid I said some things in SHARPI about Alabama.

They're there forever, They're there forever.

Dual threat quarterbacks continue to embarrass them.

But that's sometimes a kind of game where you watch defenders play with their hair on fire and their own aggressiveness is used against them.

Gus Mamazon's made a career against Alabama at doing that.

This wasn't necessarily just that, this is flat out elements of just higher competitive character.

I thought they'd have than last year that Dada did not have, and maybe they don't have.

That's the most alarming part.

You know, Sark's got a quarterback that had accuracy issues yesterday and his mechanics are off, but overall his team played extremely physical and they got a lot of talent, and Texas will be okay.

I don't know that Alabama will be okay because Alabama lacked fundamental characteristics that any kind of team that's gonna compete for anything has to have, just like the effort, the toughness, the competitive character, the will to win.

Things that you learned to take for granted under Nick Saban that you never should take for granted, no matter how consistently your coach trots it out there.

Georgia gets to enjoy this now.

Georgia will never not have high levels of competitive character on the field.

Ohio State will never not have that.

Texas will never not have that.

They won't win every game they play, maybe or maybe not win a championship, but they will have those things or gonna have it under Dan Lanning.

Clemson will have it under Dabbo.

May not win, but those are certain non negotiables in high level college football that you've got to have.

They all have it.

Bama doesn't have it, haven't had it, didn't have it yesterday.

Ty Simpson's taken a beating right now.

And the weird thing there is, with all the fundamental issues Alabama had yesterday, I'm almost hesitant to bang on ty Simpson because yet he was inaccurate.

And yeah, they're probably gonna lack a vertical threat that they need to make that offense work with him, Like I've got questions about, is his overall potential?

Did at least he put his face in the fan.

I wish they had more guys play with the heart ty Simpson did because he played his tail off.

They came up short.

He didn't light the world on fire.

I didn't doubt his passion and desire at least I cannot say the same for other guys on that roster.

So what does today teach us?

What does September teach us?

What's the rest of September teach us about this game?

Emma's got an out of conference opponent, they got another out of conference opponent.

They're eventually going to play Georgia on the road.

It's a good thing that one's not this upcoming week.

But for both of these teams, I'm asking myself, Okay, I watched Week one.

Horrific for Alabama, great result for Florida State.

What is the rest of September going to teach me about it?

Because this happens every year in college football.

Every year you see some result in Week one and you can't get it out of your head.

And there are results to the contrary multiple weeks in a row, but you cannot divorce yourself from that Week one, that initial opinion you had.

So the initial opinion for me on Alabama is they're not a contender.

My initial opinion on Florida State is prime contender in the ACC.

Well, I'm drawing those conclusions based on a result against the other, what if Florida State's the best team in the country, for example, and Alabama just went down there and got caught in a hornet's nest, Well, it changes your perspective a little bit in the weeks to come.

Conversely, what if Alabama is just terrible and we're pumping Florida State up only to watch them fall because you were basing the inflation on a result against a bad team.

We just didn't know what's bad yet.

So September is gonna teach us a lot.

Don't even have to get to October.

Just let's see them play a few games.

Maybe FSU is all the way back.

Though, for my preseason National Championship pick's sake, I hope that's the case, because if it's not, that bracket's going to look worse and worse every week, and a lot of people talk trash to me about it, and I will say, I will say, there are some of you.

There are some of you who called this.

There are some of you who said it's ridiculous to pick Alabama to win the title, and you gave me your predictions.

Talk all you want.

There were a few people canell, notably, not one of them there were a few people who told me Florida State would win this game.

Talk all you want to.

You put your predictions out there publicly, You talk all you want to.

I have zero time for anyone who didn't put their predictions out there.

Don't care what you have to say.

I love that you're watching.

Don't care what you have to say about it.

It was bad.

It was bad.

I was driving home.

I was having to sort of quasi listen to it, pull over on exit ramps to watch the big third downs.

It was bad.

I just asked this.

I just ask if you sat here and you got immense joy out of watching me, just kind of lurch around on the end of the hook to subscribe to the channel.

At least just do me that.

Just give me a subscription.

It's free.

It's free.

Watching me torture myself is free.

It's free to subscribe to the channel.

I hope I made your day better.

I hope my misery delivered you some joy.

Academy Sports and Outdoors can Even if I didn't, Academy can.

Somebody around here likes me, so they're hurting with me.

Let's just go to Academy to make it better, shall we?

I saw a lot of tailgating.

Well, I saw the big tailgating scene yesterday at Ohio State, so we had we had academy tents up there.

Of course we had Academy wagons pulling the little ones around.

I would argue, they need to walk, you know, they need to build those leg muscles.

But whatever, I'm not gonna teach you how to parent, especially if you go to academy to coddle your children.

If you're going to coddle them, coddle them via academy.

And maybe I saw some big league chew.

I'll saw some full cheeks yesterday.

Maybe big leak chew in there.

Maybe not.

Whatever the case may be, it is tailgating season.

Academy Sports and Outdoors is your virtual one stop shop for that.

It could literally be virtual.

You could go to Academy dot com and not have to go in person.

It is fun to go there in person.

Though, someone just gave us two dollars in super chat.

I gotta be honest with you, I needed the two dollars most of the time.

I tell you, guys, don't give us super chats.

We don't need your money.

We appreciate it.

Your viewership is enough.

But in this case, I'll probably donate the two dollars to Bradley minus tax.

But in this case, the two dollars means more to me than you will ever know.

With watery eyes, we move on, it just gets worse and worse.

LSU did it.

LSU did it, seventeen to ten last night.

They beat Clemson, very much a welcome back LSU moment.

I had to see the results of internal decisions with LSU.

I doubted LSU.

I just throw it out there.

I doubted them not in this game.

I picked them to lose the game.

But I wouldn't hardcore one way or the other on this game.

It wouldn't have surprised me if LSU won the game.

I said that last week, so I'm not doing the apology tour.

I'm not throwing on the clown nose for the game prediction.

However, it does appear that I could have been much too low on LSU, maybe because this was a welcome back LSU moment, defense, welcome back great personnel decisions and acquisitions.

Welcome back.

They were down ten to three at the half.

They've sucked in opening weekend games, and they won the second and half fourteen to nothing on the road against a really good team and a really good coaching staff.

Welcome back LSU.

We talk about winners first on the show.

I thought they'd lose this game, although I thought it would be close, because I thought some of the things that bit them last year would still bite them and they would look Blake Baker is an American hero.

That's what you need to know.

Austin Thomas is an American hero.

These are the differensive coordinator and the general manager, respectively for LSU football, and Brian Kelly's gonna get a lot of credit.

He should get a lot of credit.

He's the face of the program.

But man, here's the face of the program a couple of years when they couldn't stop molasses in December and their personnel suck too.

So I got to give credit to Blake Baker, the hire of one person and the guys he brings in defensively to coach.

Look at what it can do, Look at what it did.

Don't you know who was it?

Steve Winwood, Nashville resident, by the way, had this song called don't you Know what the Knight Can Do?

Pretty good song, pretty underrated, Don't you know what a good defensive coordinator can do.

Maybe put those lyrics to the song.

I'm playing it at my head right now.

It sounds pretty good.

Dude, Look at them.

Look at how different this is.

Imagine Blake Baker and Jaden Daniels sitting on the same team.

How different that season might have been.

Clemson last night at home had twenty rushes for thirty one yards.

They just stoned them one point six yards per carry.

Clemson's longest run was seven yards.

Jesse, is that right?

Popped the paper?

Good for Blake?

Say he put a better move on one of his kids in practice than Clemson put on his players last night, which I should have gotten you the b roll of.

Like, Baker still got some moves.

He's not an old guy.

He still moved fairly well.

Joints are working for Blake Baker.

So was the play sheet.

So they were ninety ninth last year and explosive pass, played the loud defensively and yeah it was him at the wheel.

But I remember, I remember last year we were down there.

I was in the building.

I walked in the defensive meeting room.

He's in there, Kevin Peebles is in there.

A lot of guys are in there, and I said, at the time, I feel like you guys have squeezed every drop of potential out of this defense.

And he kind of said, uh yeah, yeah, thank you for noticing.

Well, they got a lot more potential now because they got better players now.

The longest pass twenty six yards.

So remember now, this isn't a team breaking in a new quarterback.

This is Kate Clubneck, multi year starter.

This is Garrett Riley, multi year offensive coordinator.

There, they've got a really really good receiver room, we think the best receiver room Clemson's having a long time.

I would say the same thing here that I said about Texas.

If I told Clemson, hey, you're going to hold LSU to seventeen and you're at home, will you take it?

Yes, you take it?

Well, you got it and you lost.

Just like if I told Texas you're gonna hold Ohio State to fourteen in their own building, Do you take it?

Yes, you take it?

Well, you lost and you lost because defense has made a shocking comeback.

Defense has lowered itself from the rafters in Baton Rouge like steing At.

I don't know any of a number of WCW pay per views back in the day.

This is the LSU identity that would force me to adjust on LSU.

So a couple of weeks ago we did this thing where I'd put my predictions out because that's what a man does.

He goes public before the season starts.

Is everyone in the comment section listening.

You go public before the season starts, not with the benefit of hindsight.

And to your credit, a lot of you did.

A lot of you told me LSU was going to be good, and to you, I don't.

I can't yield the balance of my time.

You don't have a microphone.

But I apologize to you, specifically to the nameless, faceless trolls who hit me up normally after two thirty AM and trashed my predictions.

No one cares.

You didn't predict anything.

But anyway, we did our predictions.

But then the next week we did this thing where I said, if i'm here's why I would be wrong.

This is why I would be wrong with LSU.

This is why eight and four would be way too low on LSU because they had no prayer of doing this the last two years.

They can't win a game defensively to save their lives.

The last two years and now they can why better players and better coaching just a shocking combination.

Better identity.

But identity is kind of a focus grouped word.

It matters, kind of like culture.

It matters, but a lot of people just throw it out there.

Identity.

Culture.

Yeah, better players and better coaches coaching the better players.

That's really what's changed for LSU.

And here's the thing, there's plenty of room to improve.

I watched them and they didn't blow me away offensively.

In fact, offensively, it was kind of confusing to watch them in the first half.

But that's the thing.

When you don't have to score every possession, when you don't have to play keep up, you can actually afford to be loose.

You can afford to have a wobbly wheel, wobbly tire or two, knowing full well it's week one of twelve, and we can tighten the lug nuts up as we go, because that's how this car works in football, especially if we got a defense that gives us time.

Same thing we're saying about Ohio State, you could say about LSU because they came out on the plus end.

There have been times where LSU was good enough to score seventeen.

They just weren't good enough to hold the other guy under twenty seven or thirty or thirty four, and now they're good enough to do that.

So yes, if that's the LSU identity, then yes, LSU is a prime contender for everything.

The only the only I'm not hitting the brakes.

The only thing I'm trying to be careful on is like I remember last year, Georgia just throttled Clemson thirty four to three.

I think in that opener it was either thirty four to ten, thirty four to three.

It was bad.

I mean, there's body bagged Clemson.

And everybody said, or everybody's question coming out of it was not only is Georgia the favorite?

Like who could even compete against Georgia?

Who can touch Georgia?

Well, the reality was it was one outcome that still didn't fully reveal Georgia had some issues.

They just didn't get exposed against Clemson because Georgia went on to lose two regular season games.

They won the league, but they were far from invincible.

LSU's far from invincible.

There doesn't exist an invincible team in college football this year.

So that's the only hesitation I have, Like I'm way more bought in on LSU now than I was.

I'm just trying to be careful.

I don't want to get hurt.

Obama already hurt me.

I don't want LSU to hurt me.

LSU famously my first love on this show, and so I don't want LSU to hurt me because it cuts a little deeper when LSU hurts me.

Clemson can't scale.

Clemson can't scale.

I don't use cannot a whole lot on the show, but I mean we've got a big sample size now.

Clemson just can't scale.

Clemson cannot scale against good teams.

They played three SEC teams last year and they were fourteen of forty on third down.

They were three of thirteen on third down last night.

They are a combined seventeen of fifty on third down against these last four SEC teams they played.

And it's not necessarily shouting SEC.

Those are the highest level opponents Clemson happens to be facing because their own league has been bad.

So they face Georgia, and then they face South Carolina, and then they face Texas and now they faced LSU.

They can't scale their performance, So there is a there's a high floor on this team, but the ceiling is well below that of a championship contender.

And that's a problem because you know, as much as people want to dunk on me for picking bam Hey, a lot of folks pick clems and Clemson is not gonna win a national title either, So we're kind of filtering a little bit.

But they could make the playoff like they could still do that, They could do what they did last year.

There's just this myth out there that because you return a bunch of players you get better.

Sometimes you just are what you were.

This is the same attention to detail you got to pay for Penn State.

Be careful with Penn State.

They may just be who they were now.

I happen to think the receiver editions for Penn State will push them over the top, but I don't expect them to be quantum leaps better, just fractions here and there.

I don't know that Clemsons found the margins and they can't run the ball, so ironically, they could be taking on the twenty twenty four LSU identity where they're gonna have to ask kid Klubnik to win them games, just like LSU had to ask NUS to win games last year.

Why because we can't run the ball.

And what is NUS?

What is Garrett Nus?

They're good quarterbacks, but not transcendently great quarterbacks, so we cannot ask them to be elite when in reality it's unfair to expect elite from a guy who's just really good.

That was the LSU identity last year.

That's why they were so hot and cold.

I think that may be Clemson this year.

My default positions now is Clemson has a high floor.

I just think the ceilings limited on them, and with LSU, it could be anything.

I don't even know what My default position on LSU is.

They can still lose three games, they could win the national championship.

So LSU's of total wildcard to me now, because if that's them, and I saw Bama do what they did yesterday, I saw Texas lose yesterday.

I haven't seen, you know, Georgia play a high level opponent yet.

I haven't seen Florida play a high level opponent yet.

A boy, it could be wide open.

In fact, scratch that the SEC is wide open.

It could be LSU's for the taking.

Who knows, it could be LSUS happy to have a lot of you watching live.

We got like thirteen thousand people watching live, like the video.

This is all we do.

It's college football all year.

I don't start talking NBA free agency and trade whispers.

This is just college football.

I had to touch on this Tennessee game.

Tennessee beat Syracuse forty five to twenty six.

It was such a big relief because you know, that's another team that I'm a little suspicious about, a little weary of.

Right now, Tennessee, I think I have pretty good reason to be one week one week in the bag, a lot of optimism.

Now I am in the interest affair, and it's going to try and not slam on the brakes.

I'm just gonna try and pump the brakes.

I just need it to slow down a little bit.

First.

The good Okay, here's what excites me.

Tennessee runs the ball still.

Tennessee has always run the ball.

We are I don't know how many years in to the Hypel regime now and I still am listening to people surprised when they look at Tennessee's rushing statistics, they run it for twenty five hundred plus every year, like clockwork.

I could start at quarterback for him and he's still gonna have a dominant ground game.

Forty carries, two forty six on the ground, six point two yards per carry.

They did it again.

Oh josh, it was just Syracuse.

Okay, Well, who else were they supposed to play?

Who else were they supposed to do it against?

That opened it up for Joey Agilar sixteen of twenty eight two forty seven, three touchdowns and the most important stat category gooseg in the inner eception column.

That excites me.

They also hit a deep ball and that wasn't necessarily part of the offensive identity last year, So that excites me.

In the old Georgia Dome, that ball may have hit the roof.

He put a lot of air under that ball.

God bless you.

I would just pour one out for the Georgia Dome.

So those things excite me.

They should.

Here's what I also noticed.

They gave up seven explosive pass plays.

Now they played a ton of guys defensively.

I looked at the participation chart and I thought it was a typo.

They had twenty They had twenty one different players register a tackle, so that could be a false alarm.

It could be they just rotated a lot of guys.

That's part of what they're doing early in the year to try and be healthy and be fresh later in the year.

That's why it's not a weakness.

It's just a question mark.

It's a yellow light's not a red light.

But I am very very happy that they weren't a disaster, because there are a lot of worlds where this would have looked disastrous when you don't even have your quarterback for spring and you run the kind of offense that's an official name of Hypel's offense.

No, it's just like snap snap snap boom, snap snap boom.

It's because it's physical.

Though.

He'll get mad at me if I don't say that, and he'll be right to be mad at me.

It could have been it could have been a disaster and it wasn't.

So there's that a lot of places out there had quarterbacks that had been under their watch multiple years and they played terribly.

Yesterday, Hypel had a guy dropping his lap in the middle of like Independence Day Memorial or July fourth weekend, He's like, all right, I'll go win with you.

How much will they win?

I don't know what we saw yet, this is the standard rule in week one.

See my index finger nervously tapping.

I don't know what we saw yet.

I know what the score was.

I know that I watched the game.

Is Syracuse terrible?

Are we building false confidence?

Is Georgia going to undress them in a few weeks?

Are they going to take Georgia to the wire in a few weeks?

Is fran Brown going to go on to be a surprise in the acc and make you look back in even more impressive a fashion.

At this Week one game, we don't know, Still don't know.

Four quarters in the bag, still a lot we don't know.

But I do know Josh Heipel knows quarterbacks.

I do know he knows offense.

I know they need to get healthy.

And I know that I got more from Tennessee than I thought I would get yesterday.

I thought this would be like a sneaky upset alert type of game.

I took Syracuse and the points that lost, thankfully for Tennessee.

So week one down, it's fair to say about Tennessee too.

If this is the floor.

Offensively, we could be in good shape.

There was a little drop off.

Defensively, there should be.

They lost good players, there should be.

Just don't fall off a cliff.

That's all we're asking.

The Pate State Store.

We've added more to it because the store has blown up.

So when the store blows up, we talk to people every day and they just say, hey, you want us to keep making new designs, and we're like, yeah, number one, cause I need shirts and I don't really feel like buying them anywhere, so I'll just wear my own stuff around the house.

The fald doat Live shirts have flown off the shelves.

We have the Ramnudle Express shirt.

I think we're getting another one of those this week.

Just a it's great time over there, peytstatemterial dot com.

I'm looking forward to some of our winter collection as well, looking very much forward to that.

There's some overreaction happening.

I don't know if you've noticed this.

I would like to address some of it.

Then this is going to be a little circle back moment.

I'm gonna gensaki you for a second.

We're gonna circle back on some of this.

Are you hearing that arch Manning is a bust?

Are you hearing arch Manning is overrated?

Because I'm hearing that this is an ifb it's an earpiece, and I'm hearing in my ear, not from Jesse, but for sources that arch Manning is overrated.

Well, you know the question around here, You know the rule around here.

If you label somebody or something overrated, the first thing we need to know is what was erated?

What was it rated?

In this case, we do have an answer.

Arch Manning was the preseason favorite to win the Heisman.

So then my follow up question is, well who rated him?

Did Arch rate himself?

Now, if you're new to the show, you need to know this is not hindsight I'm speaking with.

I have asked this for months.

What's the expectation for Arch?

And I told you what my expectation was.

Does anyone remember, Hey, I whipped a lot yesterday, so I need to own the ones I got, right, You just just bear with me on this.

I said, I expect him to be a pretty good player, nothing more, at least at the outset.

And if he's more than that, great, But it's unfair to expect it.

Now.

No one wanted to hear that because of what his last name is and how many stars were next to his name, and he's been at Texas multiple years and it sarks offense.

Yeah, there's a lot of hype, and he did not play well yesterday at all.

His mechanics were bad, his timing was off.

I thought he was indecisive.

I thought he I really hesitate to say guys played scared.

I don't think he had fear in him.

I think he was very hesitant to make decisions that have to be made a lot quicker.

So it's not fear.

I don't think if you zoomed in on him he has like the shaky hand.

I don't think it was anything like that.

I don't know if he trusted his preparation.

I guess it's the best way to put that, because they had him prepared.

You're not going to tell me Steve Sarkisian failed to have a quarterback prepared.

But there's not much you can do from a play calling standpoint when a guy's not releasing the ball within the timing structure of the play, within the progression structure of the play.

There's nothing you can do as a play caller, and you're certainly not going to throw your player under the bus, so you kind of have to own it.

But as far as arch Manning being overrated, the expectations were completely out of whack.

I've said this for months.

Making him whatever you want to make him in the Heisman market.

The Heisman market is just a reflection of the public.

So FanDuel just puts whatever the public essentially is demanding that they put up on the odds board.

It's a reflection of what the public thinks.

Well, here's an age old problem in college football.

People rank players and ranked teams and state their expectations all the time.

I do as well.

But here's the difference.

I picked Alabama to win the national title.

If they get blown out by Florida State, it's not their fault that I predicted them.

So I made a stupid prediction.

They just did what they were destined to do.

Arch Manning's going to do what he's destined to do.

If I pump him up and I go yell in everybody of mine's face, hey he's going to win the Heisman and he doesn't.

How dumb is it of me to get mad at the kid.

I'm the one who made the prediction.

As far as I can tell, Arch Manning hasn't made a prediction about himself.

So, yeah, he's the quarterback at Texas.

He has last name is Manning.

Yeah, he needs to do a lot better than he did yesterday.

He's got eleven more games to go this year.

That's the first thing I want to remind you.

Second thing I want to remind you is he played Ohio State on the road to start his career virtually not the easiest thing to do.

You know, they could have had who i'saw a lot of teens I've never seen yesterday.

You don't want to play rice man Louisiana learned about that you lose to food and you're getting tossed under the bus on this show.

But they could have played a lesser opponent yesterday and Arts probably would have had a good stat line.

There's a long way to go.

I don't know if he's overrated.

I don't think I had him overrated because I didn't have him rated what other people had him rated to begin with.

So and calling the guy a bust after one week is that makes you guilty of what people accuse us sometimes of being.

Like sometimes I'll say something someone doesn't like, and they'll call it clickbait.

I don't even know what I want you to click on.

Sometimes you just say something that someone disagrees with and you agree to disagree.

People calling arts Manning a bust or just they are rage baiting you, They are looking for clicks or either they're mad at themselves, but instead of blaming themselves for overrating somebody, they're projecting the anger onto the player.

So there's that next up, more overreaction poor in.

I woke up this morning, against my better judgment, I pulled up my Twitter account and there it was fire Kaylen de Boor right there.

First thing.

I saw all caps, of course, So here's my takeaway from that.

Obviously, no, well it's obvious to me.

No, that's not the way the world works.

Even if they wanted to fire him, they can't, And in no world should you be talking about firing Kaylen de Boor.

However, it is serious gut check time for him and for that program.

There are some things you just have to have.

Competitive character is one of them.

Effort, tenacity, a killer instinct.

These should be things that if you're good enough to warrant a scholarship at Alabama and you wear that crimson helmet.

You play at a place where so many guys that exhibited those characteristics have played before, you better have them.

And they were so bad yesterday.

Above and beyond the obvious, they were bad.

It just have and the baseline stuff that everyone should have.

They were bad at having the baseline stuff.

You'd take for granted if Nick Saban were still there, and the reason it existed when Saban was there was number one that was a non negotiable in the culture that he created.

But number two, you ought to be terrified to play that way.

Not terrified of what the opponent's going to do.

You should be terrified about what your own guys are going to do to you behind closed doors.

If you put the kind of performance on tape that several of their defensive players put on tape yesterday.

Under Nick Saban, you wouldn't have to worry about what Florida State's going to do to you.

You would not have to worry about what your coaches are going to do to you.

You would have to worry about what your teammates were going to do to you.

And I'm not sure that fear exists on that team.

It's obvious it doesn't because the same issue still lingered into week one that existed last year.

So how could I draw any other conclusion.

If anyone wants to get mad at that, I'd love to hear pushback on that.

I'm the one who picked you to win the SEC I'd love to hear a counter to that, But the criticism is completely fair.

Listen, That whole adage that you don't want to be the guy who takes over for a legend is true because most people don't want to take over for a legend.

But I always pushed back on it because I think the guy with the right mentality wants to take over a premium situation, regardless of who had the job before.

You see the reality of Joe Paterno.

Forget about the off the field stuff.

I don't care what you think about that.

Joe Paterno was a successful coach for decades at Penn State, but his best days were well behind him by the time he finally retired.

Bobby Bowden dido at Florida State, but his best days were well behind him by the time he retired.

Point being a lot of times, the secret reason you don't want to take over for a legend is because the program has waned in the latter stages of that legend's career, and you're left with inheriting a rebuild with scott high expectations.

Those two things don't mesh because you won't have the patience from the fan base.

Caitlin de Boor inherited a program that was not in need of rebuild, especially relative to FSU post Bowden, Penn State post Paterno.

That was not this.

Nick Saban's last game was a playoff game.

Nick Saban's last recruiting class was top five.

Did you lose some guys in the portal?

Of course you did.

Hey, that's why no one really blames you for a mixed bag of results in year one.

But now, man, two years in, especially when the vibe we got from inside that place was we love where we're at.

Well, I didn't love what I saw from you in week one.

So every look, here's the other thing.

People have waited for this for fifteen years.

No one's letting up.

Everyone hates you except your own people, and frankly, some of them will turn pretty quickly if this doesn't get turned around.

So none of that should really change what you're about your process should be your I guess my point there is if I believed in my procedures and systems and processes and I started off a new season delivering the same results, Hey, you got to be evaluating yourself all the time as well.

I think that about our show just as much as Kaylan should think that about Alabama football.

Here's the problem.

Those are conversations you want to have in January and February, not in week two of the season, cause it's really tough.

Yeah, there's only so much you can do once the planes off the ground.

There's only so much you can do to fix the plane if it has terminal issues.

Interested to see where that goes.

There's eleven weeks, eleven weeks to go in this season.

The third it's somewhat related the third bit of overreaction that I've picked up on, and this one's going to shock you too.

I'm hearing the secs overrated again again.

Overrated?

What are they rated?

Well, I guess number one.

I guess some people rated the number one.

So what are they rated now?

Not number one?

I don't know.

I looked to me like LSU went and won on the road, looked like Auburn went and won on the road.

Texas did not win on the road.

Alabama did not win on the road.

A lot of SEC teams went on the road in week one.

I don't know that the strategy in retrospect was so sound, but they did the SEC.

There were some results that I didn't think i'd get, Like, so, I thought Texas may win.

I thought Bama definitely would win, but hey, I thought Clemson would beat LSU.

I thought Baylor had a good shot to beat Auburn, although I picked Auburn.

It was a mixed bag of results.

You remember what we said about the SEC last week two weeks ago.

I said, the SEC to me is basically the Nashville skyline, in that there is no one hundred story building.

It is not Manhattan, where there are a couple of buildings that just tower even above the rest.

Nashville's got a bunch of buildings that are roughly the same height.

The SEC's the same way.

So Texas is not a superpower of a team.

Alabama's not a superpower of a team.

I don't think any of them are.

I don't think that about Georgia, I don't think that about Florida.

They're all pretty good.

I think it's by far the deepest conference in the country in terms of competitive quality.

I mean the SEC's number nine, whoever that is, versus anyone else's number nine, I think would be pretty solid lean for the SEC.

That doesn't mean they have the best team in the country.

It could mean the Big Ten has the two best teams in the country, and maybe SEC has three and five and seven and eight whatever.

How could anyone possibly know?

Is my question.

Texas and Ohio State would profile is sort of a one and one SEC Big Ten home team won a competitive game there.

Alabama Florida State is just the blinking red light in this whole sample size.

But Clemson was the ACC's number one.

I don't know what LSU is, but preseason they were not the SEC's number one.

They went in their building in one.

Baylor was top four in the odds market for the Big twelve.

Auburn was not for the SEC.

Auburn went in their building in one.

Again, there are people out there, many, many, many people who despise this conference.

You have good reason to.

They run their mouth all the time, and so when you get a shot at them and you land one across their jaw, you let them know about it.

You go Tommy Castellanos on them, You let them know about it.

My point is, I know when someone yells this in the comments, they're not looking for a logical conversation.

I know what they're looking for.

They're looking for blood.

That's what they're looking for.

So there was some of it in the water yesterday.

I am stating nothing but fact here.

And I promise you when we upload this video later, you look at the comments, the comments will accuse me of homersm I don't know.

I don't know where my check is from the SEC.

I wait on it every week.

I don't get it.

I don't know.

But anyway, those are the facts, whatever you want to do with them.

Those are the fact.

SEC could be overrated, they could be or they could be the best conference in the country.

I have no idea.

I don't think you do either.

I think you wish, but I don't think you know.

So let's not overreact too much there one weekend.

If you do believe though, that all of these games are going to go the same way like South Carolina plays in a little bit, but in the interest of most people watching the replay of this show, I won't use a game that's gonna kick off in an hour.

But at FanDuel, you can bet all these games at FanDuel.

For instance, on Monday night, Labor Day Night, TCU goes to North Carolina.

A lot of people think they have a read on that game.

I have no idea how I think it's going to go.

I probably lean TCU, but I don't know.

I'm not betting on it.

But if you want to bet on it, fifty percent profit boost on that game for everybody, right Jesse, not just new users.

Everybody has a fifty percent profit boost on that game.

But also if you go to FanDuel dot com, forward slash Josh Pate or just use the QR code here, all the first time betters bet five to win three hundred bonus bets.

It's not complete free money because you do have to win, but you can get You could have gone in, I don't know, picked Washington moneyline against Colorado State.

They were favored by three touchdowns.

As long as they win the game, then you bet five to get three hundred bonus bets.

It's really it's a really good welcome from FanDuel, exclusive odds provider of the show.

We appreciate them.

I got some added takeaways here and then we're gonna go watch South Carolina play.

So this was a couple of nights ago, but Auburn beat Baylor thirty eight to twenty four, and I gotta be real with you, man.

We took a lot of criticism on this show because I misspoke about Baylor.

I said they were undersized up front defensively.

I didn't mean undersized.

I meant they were capable of being leaned on.

I met Auburn could own the line of scrimmage and lean on him.

I didn't mean that.

When they stepped on the scale, they were all under three hundred pounds.

I shouldn't have said it that way.

But the feel on the game was absolutely spot on because Auburn put him on skates rushed for over three hundred yards against Baylor.

So unequivocally that's how that game played out.

It was academic from that point.

But the questions are still there to me because I looked at Jackson Arnold and good for him, man, good for him.

He played a hard nosed game.

I just wonder how replicable that style is or if it's gonna get him killed.

Does he make it through a season playing like that, and do they find more of a passing game.

It's good that you beat Baylor, it's wonderful, but I just don't know.

When you go back and watch that film or you watched it live, you don't need to watch the film.

When you watched it live, did you not say to yourself, Wow, this dude's playing out of his mind.

But also he's not gonna make it half a season playing like this.

That was my concern.

If he can play like that every week, then Auburn is a prime contender.

I just I worry about that.

Michigan beat New Mexico.

We saw Bryce Underwood, Justice Haynes, poor rushing numbers at Bama last year, right back on track at Michigan.

Bryce Underwood looks like he's the real deal.

Twenty one to thirty one, sixty nearly a sixty eight percent completion day, got a touchdown, no picks.

Their leading receiver was a tight end.

They're gonna be limited at receiver.

That just is the way it is.

There was an egregious target call in this game.

Jayshawn Barem barm.

I think we go long a on that.

Jayshawn Borum committed the crime of being too good and getting to the quarterback too effectively, and he did not stop and go through notes to see how to tackle the guy.

And so not only was he called for targeting, it was upheld.

So he has to miss the first half of the Oklahoma game unless there's an appeal, which they are allowed to do, unless that appeal has it overturned.

He's got to miss the first half of the Oklahoma game for what, at most should have been roughing the passer, at most should have been rough in the passer.

And anyone who tells me targeting is not broken in college football, I encourage you to go watch that call.

Utah looked good man.

One of the secret leans heavily that the model had all week was Utah, and I curse myself for not following the model.

Utah dominated UCLA forty three to ten.

This is Utah devon Dan Pierre.

When they went and got him and his offensive coordinator from New Mexico, they did it with this in mind.

He was twenty one of twenty five, two oh six through the air, two touchdowns, another eighty seven on the ground, and one touchdown.

They held UCLA to two twenty Utah was paper pop.

Utah was fourteen of sixteen on third down.

Kyle Whittingham is unhappy with the world and just happened to take it out on Ucla first, but not last.

That's got to be my favorite, right now to win the Big twelve.

Forget what I said in the preseason.

They look good.

I'm overreacting.

I'm doing it, Jesse, Okay, hold on, hold on.

Now we are looking at the FanDuel odds, so technically Utah is now the favorite at FanDuel to win the Big twelve.

I picked Arizona State to win the Big twelve.

I will be willing to wait.

Arizona State one yes, Texas Tech one yesterday.

I am very high on Utah, very high on Utah.

I think they nailed this thing immunity, and I think they're going to be good the entire year.

G five Josh has also entered the building.

You know some of you saw the locker room.

I do that show of Wednesdays with Will and Taylor over at Busting with the Boys, and I did not want to wait until the weekend to give my Upsettler my underdog of the week.

I wanted to get it out of the way.

On Thursday, it was USF against Boise, and they splattered Boise.

They ran it up on Boise.

And then Tulane played Northwestern yesterday and looked like the Big Ten team more than Northwestern did.

And I think I saw the two teams that have the best odds, the best shot to take the G five spot in the playoff.

I looked at Tulane's schedule.

They played Duke in Week three, they go to Ole Miss in Week four.

I think USA has to play Florida and Miami.

So there's this weird thing that could happen at the end of the year where because they play quality opponents, they may lose, but if they win their conferences, they ought to be ranked high enough.

One of them ought to get the spot.

These are the two coaches at the G five level that I circle.

John Sumroll, I'd hire him tomorrow.

Alex Goulish, I'd hire him tomorrow.

They are in very privileged positions and that they can afford to wait for the right jobs to come along, and they can stay where they are indefinitely.

Those are good places to be.

Yeah.

Good good weeks.

Good weeks for both of those guys.

Model love tu Lane too.

I didn't jump on it.

I'm telling you, man, the Model had a banner day on games that we didn't put on the Roman Noudle Express.

Now we need Miami tonight.

We get Miami tonight, and the Ramen Noodle Express has a winning week in week one, so nervous energy, nervous energy.
