Gork Talk's with David Martin and the Call of the Crown 5 Painting Challenge

Episode Transcript

Hello, everybody.

Thank you very much again for tuning in for another Golf Talk podcast.

Hope you're doing well.

And this is Josh, your host, and I hope I can entertain you for the next hour or so as we talk about what's been happening here behind the scenes at the Crown of Command for the first half.

And then for the second-half, we have our wonderful A Man Behind the Call of the Crown 5.

That's David Martin talking about the the challenge itself and some other related information behind the challenge.

Just to fill in any gaps that maybe we've missed or something like that.

Any questions you may have had, I've had a number of people asking me about where to e-mail photographs to and everything like that.

As we prepare for the 1st October to get that challenge in the way, which I honestly hope to be a part of this time.

I, I had joined 2 challenges last year and I had to drop out of eventually both of them because of, of just stuff happening here that namely Commission painting that I had to prioritize unfortunately ahead of the challenges.

But I hope this time Gawk can see me through to the end for the six months and I hope you guys are really excited about joining again.

It doesn't have to be an entirely huge army.

It's like 1000 points over six months.

I think it's pretty doable.

Just do chaos like like Mika dread paints chaos armies, 5 chaos warriors, 5 chaos cavalry, 10 beastmen.

And I think you're almost there.

So, you know, have a have a route around, if you, if you like that expression, have a route around in your bits, bits boxes and you know, hobby cupboards and find something that you could possibly add to your army or your collections.

You don't have to fixate on one particular army.

It could be a smattering, which is probably what I'm going to do.

You know, 1 unit for walking goblins, one for empire, one for dwarves, one for empire, whatever you know.

So you've got a you can sort of, you can tailor your your units and stuff you need to paint into the challenge to come up with 1000 legal points of Warhammer.

3rd to Old World.

I think it is.

It encompasses everything, even Warhammer, Renaissance, you name it.

I think it covers all of those fan made and officially released armies and lists for Warhammer.

So it's very inclusive and include inclusive to all model manufacturers and everything.

Anyhow, look, David will talk all about that in the second-half of our show today.

I just wanted to say thank you very much for people coming in, joining us free members and just checking out what we do here on Patreon because I love Patreon.

I love places like this because when you when you join Patreon and you come to the chronic command, you just get the chronic command.

That's all you get.

You don't get ads, you don't get any other stuff annoying or distracting you.

You've just got, you know, you're plugged right into the source, right into Gork's brain, if you like.

So we've got people like James Brawniak joining us, a free member.

So thank you very much, James as Austin Hopper, Thank you very much, Austin.

Miguel Mesa, thank you, Miguel.

David McLean, Sungai Ha and Speedboat Thank you very much guys for joining and hope you enjoy the free content here.

Marcus Blackman, my old mate for well from the time I went to the UK back in 95, so that's a long time ago.

I've known Marcus a long time now, more than 30 years in fact, so it's really nice.

I told him about, I said, why aren't you?

Why aren't you a free member yet?

And he said, I don't know, that was an obligation.

So he he clicked happily clicked the link and here he is now.

So hopefully he's listening to this Gork talk this week and Dale Yates from the Painting Outlaw Studios YouTube channel.

I also informed Dale about the Call of the Crown Challenge and he seems very interested in joining it.

And he has his own, like I said, YouTube channel that I watch just some really nice laid back videos of they'll painting some classic old Marauder miniatures, Citadel miniatures, Foundry miniatures, 40 millimetre historical miniatures seems to have quite a lot of lead on his in his lead pile.

And I just enjoy watching him get through all that as well.

So thank you very much to Paddy Mick becoming an org pain boy, enjoying the ranks of pain boys here.

John Print is joined as a free member.

Thank you very much, John.

Thank you very much Tony L for upgrading to an org knob.

You're in the org knob mob mate, so well done.

So you can start cracking heads and getting people org getting your boys organised in the in their mobs there.

So and Ed also joins a free member.

Thank you very much, Ed and Tom Shells, if I didn't mention you last week, thank you very much for joining our Storm Boy Corps.

OK, So thank you very much guys for your for just just popping in and, and seeing what this is all about.

Hopefully it's a really, I think it's a really positive place where people can share their hobby and our hobby Hangouts.

That's what we're going to look at now.

And we have a wonderful community of hobbyists out there sharing their loves and passions for what they're doing through the week and getting motivated and being very distracted.

Sometimes in cases where they think, oh, that looks good, I might do that myself and pick up a totally new project.

Maybe something that's been on the sitting on the table or on a shelf collecting dust for quite some time.

And now it's time to bring those out to the table and get them painted.

So let me just scroll up here and have a look at to see what the guys have been up to Wol.

He's got some really interesting projects happening.

Hopefully, you know, in most to most cases and to to their credit, they usually fill follow through like Matt W quite a quite an active poster here looking at his and we've sort of been following this from the very start his night goblin army project.

So he's been working tirelessly on painting loads of little cave dwelling night goblins, all the classic metal Kev Adams designs that you you know and love the originals and the best.

He also has some plastic orc 40K orcs that he's working on as well, using the beautiful, I must say, Vallejo Goblin Green from Game Colour to apply some paint on that.

And then Tony Elle's regretting buying all these or having all these bliss sorry sprues of plastic that he has to clip off and assemble.

Looks.

I don't know exactly what they are.

I'm assuming they're Orson goblins.

Looks like there's some orc Spears arms here and everything like that.

There might be some ball boys in there and other orcs that he has to start assembling.

Looks like on Old world bases too.

So it looks like Tony's wanting to play some Old world.

Hopefully you can do that soon with these all clan.

And we've got other things like AD wood.

He's got some alternative Titan orc gargants, I should say, not Titans when we're talking there.

Gawk will never forgive me.

So he's been comparing the original slasher Gargant, the one that the glorious metal one by Kev Adams, to the Troublemaker games Plastic City crushes.

Same presence, same energy.

Yeah.

I mean, yeah, they look, they look, I think they look nice.

They're characterful at least.

So these have got legs like, like the stompers have got legs as well.

But it looks like the stompers sort of just waddle from side to side where these things actually have tracked wheels, like track legs and stomping legs.

But yeah, they're they're they're a great alternative.

I believe they're all in plastic or resin and so and that's the first time I actually heard about these guys troublemaking games from AD when he showed me some of their previous stuff they've done mainly orc stuff I think, but I could be wrong.

Maybe there are other other factions they cover but and I think they have their own game as well.

Actually I think it's part of their own game.

So they're looking pretty smart mate.

So good to see.

And Matt W has got an old metal orc found while looking for bases for more time stuff and looks like it's a walk of Brian Nelson fame.

And he's carrying a big, heavy, stubborn, by the looks of things, big shooter.

And he's going to be shooting those umies pretty soon.

And he's also found a classic walk boy as well, metal or boy in amongst that collection.

And he's also picked up a shaman, Nork shaman from that's a Gary Morley sculpt from the lair of the Ork Lord that he wants to use for his modern high ball band.

That's a good that's a good purchase that one, mate.

And I'm trying to not I'm trying to discourage him from picking up an old world Chaos Warriors, a Chaos battalion box.

I said, mate, let's just finish what you've started.

Don't start something new.

Don't do it.

Don't be tempted.

But he looks like he wants to play with a friend of his.

And I said, mate, you almost nearly finish your, your, your goblin army.

You could, you could feel the goblin army really soon.

So it was like Matt's quite swayed by the, the, the, the, the teeth of the Dark Master to suckle, to suckle the juices from the Dark Master and to pick up his Chaos Battalion box.

I wish you all luck mate, and good luck clipping and scraping all the plastic off all those medals, mate, All those plastic, all those plastic figures and all those brews.

Jim Walsh has been entertaining us with some really nice looking rhino conversions for Epic for Tizinchian themed rhinos.

And they have all of them.

A different type of iris that's looks like a marble or not a marble maybe or something, some kind of glass bead that has some kind of iris on the like, you know, some kind of imagery on there that he's sort of plugged in with the green stuff on the front canopy of these rhinos to separate them, distinguish them differently for different detachments.

I think it's a really good idea and well executed.

I've seen the finished products.

They look really nice.

And Matt W is putting his cats to sleep on his bed with the old world rule book.

So.

And then Matthias has finally finished painting both of his chimeras.

These are chimeras, aren't they?

Yeah, chimera is chimera.

Chimera.

You say how you want to, but he's got the metal one that was kindly sent to him by Matt.

Very generous soul that he is and praise God for him.

And he's got AI think a 3D printed one or something where he's bought he bought a a bigger plasticky modern chimera.

So he's got 2 now, so but both look very nice.

The MO TS well done mate.

I do like the blue feathered wings on the metal chimera and the that wonderful.

It's a Marauder miniature, this one, which is quite rare to find apparently, and Matt's got his Fabrizelle Castor lined up and based ready to do some priming at some point through the week, maybe to get some paint on those will be look, I look really interested.

I I'm interested if I can spit it out properly.

I'm interested to see what they look like when you paint those mate.

So have fun.

And he's also working some other metal goblins and night goblins there as well.

OK, let's have a look here, Ed Ed's blocking out some colours on his plastic classic Gretchen from the second edition box set and will will look mighty fine and blue and yellow.

Very bad moon inspired colors there as he tries to work out his paint schemes for those.

And Kwon, a mate from France who will be coming to Japan later this year for us to play a classic 4th edition battle report and film it of course for the channel.

He's knocked out an Earthshaker cannon for his cast wolves, which looks very, very, very tidy indeed.

So well done Kwon.

You've done a great job there mate.

On that one.

I can see a death rocket in the background.

I can see in the blurry distance some hobgoblins and some Shields for them as well.

He had a really good technique of using some plutonium transfers with an axe symbol and using those.

You know you I think you've got to cut off some parts to make them look like the original sort of axe motifs on the Shields that that work really well.

Let's see Tony L has got this wonderful or goblin, sorry, a night goblin boss, the classic one with the hood on it and everything that he's recently finished, which looks very, very nice.

And Gorka Morka have been eyeing that off this week and enjoying your enjoying the spoils of your hard labours there Tony So looks very nice indeed.

And I think Matt has painted up a couple of musicians with some really cool.

I don't know if they're transfers or free handed.

He's got a free handed moon character painted on one of them and he's got another iris looking like a eye of Sauron type looking eye on the other one so eagerly.

Looked very quite striking and yellow and looks like we have.

What else do we have here?

Also Jim Bob has been out to a War Museum looking at great cannons.

So Empire great guns in the flesh, brass and wood.

I mean spotted in the Krieg museum in Copenhagen.

So hope you're enjoying your trip mate and have fun out there.

And Ted is now doing his and almost finished making his rivers for his table, which look really nice so far.

Ted, really good mate.

And I like how you've got really narrow banks on yours.

I, I think I did mine too big and too broad, which makes the river look really quite narrow.

It makes the river look like a stream.

And I think you've, you've done it the right way.

We haven't really emphasized the banks so much and it's sort of low profile and, and more emphasis on the, the width of the, of the actual river.

And as many people point out, rivers, all rivers aren't blue, so he's got a nice and natural looking river colour here that he's chosen.

So whether they're absolutely finished or not I don't know, but they're looking quite good at this time.

So Jim has now got his to zinch in rhinos all ready to go with all their wonderful looking iris type eyes at the front of the the hulls of those ships look really cool.

And let's see Matt's found a warriors of cows, cows, trolls.

Looks like he's ordered those from the maid to order and there arrived so you can enjoy putting those together.

Looks like his heart set on the on the chaos project.

And to finish up hobby hangovers this week, Eddie Wood has put some paint on an old meat boy Gargant and he's he's got a slasher garden that he's painting up now, which looked really, really cool.

So really happy to see that he's still, you know, got the fire burning for Epic.

And I think he's going to introduce it to one of his one or one of the club or the club organizer at a local club in Leicester, where he'll he'll showcase Epic for the first time as as Kieran introduced him to man of Warren and AD really loved it and never having played it before, he will now reciprocate with Epic Space Marine and showing the joys of Epic and six mil gaming.

So I hope I hope that goes over well, mate, for you and you've recruited another epic player within your club there, which would be really good to see.

OK, well, that pretty much covers all the hobby hangovers this week.

So without further ado and let's go straight into interview with Dave and Martin talking all about the Call of the Crown Challenge.

Hey, how you going?

Hey, Josh, I'm doing good.

How are you?

That last beer, mate.

Yeah, I've got, I've got cheese.

I've got a muffle.

Muffle the cracking open because my, my wife's just next door.

So I've got to put a suppress suppressor on it.

Suppressor.

That's an invention waiting to happen.

You need a little beer suppressor.

We fit it right on the top the cans so the wives can't hear.

I'm not an alcoholic, I promise, OK?

Yeah, I swear this is.

A very, very rare, very rare occasion.

I'll have a beer with mate at this time at 8:30 in the morning.

So cheers to you, David.

Thanks very much mate for coming on.

Yeah, absolutely.

Cheers.

Yeah, it's almost 7

Yeah, it's almost 7:00 here, so we'll count you in on U.S.

Central Time.

Yeah, mate, Well, there's a lot.

Of cool.

There you've got 17.5° compared to 31° and rising in the in the the lands of the east.

Where it's still in full force over there in the land of the rising sun.

Yeah, man, I'm bloody over it.

This, I mean, this is where I, this is what I try to escape in Australia, where I lived in Australia now, it's basically the same thing.

We just get, we just get very cold winters here as opposed to where I lived before.

But I'm sure I was sinking in the shower because I had to shower because I, I stank so bad.

I still like it.

I stank like, you know, something that was almost dead, I think on arrival so I don't have to shower quickly because my hair slipped back like Hannibal Lecter.

Just yeah, I like it.

And yeah.

And I was thinking in the shower.

I think once I get to retire, if that's ever possible, I think me and my wife should sell up and go out somewhere where it's a lot cooler during the summer.

It'd be a lot colder in the in the winter but it'd be damp site cool in the in the summer mate.

Just yeah, that's that's our plan.

My wife and I as get a place up north to pass the summers if we can and avoid all this miserable humidity.

I, I hope it's passed us here and hopefully it passes there for you soon.

Upset for you too, mate.

Yeah, because there's nothing we're saying.

It's it's really bad, it's really damaging or you know, it's impacts heavily on the hobby too, because a lot of people just don't feel like cracking open the wet pallets because the paint dries and the either the humidity is drying it or the air conditioning is drying it or the fan you got and is drying it.

So.

Yeah, exactly.

And if you're, if you're a rattle Cam primer person like me, humidity is just rubbish for trying to get anything primed.

You'll you'll regret that you did it.

Absolutely, mate.

Yeah, Well, it's great that you can come on today like I said, David and I'm going to put this on the end of our Gawk talk this week and release it to the greater public and let them hear the voice of Gawk and yourself talking about the call of the crown and and things related to what's going on with the Crown of Command.

But I thought as a primer, quick primer as you were, as you had attended the bring out your lead this year and for the very first time, would you like to just give us a summary of what that was all about and what what you thought about it mate?

Yeah, well, bring out your lead was, was wonderful.

It was everything I I hoped it could have been and probably a bit more.

It was just wonderful to see so many people that I've, I've known online in some capacity for, for some time and got to meet them in the flesh and roll some dice with them and push some minis around, which is just a, a wonderful treat.

And getting to see all those tables set up, all those minis.

It's there at Foundry, which is out of ways from Newark and you're just kind of in the country and it's this old Victorian building and you're kind of there in the middle of it and rolling dice outside.

The weather was absolutely perfect.

And just getting to look and see all the tables set up and different adventures and battles going on.

And you know, if if I had any regret, it's only that there weren't more of me so that I could go around and and get some games in at different tables.

And alas, there's only one and there's only three days and you can only do so much.

But it was absolutely lovely.

And a special shout out to Jason for running his massive game of Warhammer Fantasy there.

We got to take part in on that Saturday at was a real tree.

I've never played.

I've played in some big battles before, but nothing, nothing like that.

I mean, at one point I, I have to think we probably 15 or 20 people lined up around the table and just shoving minis around and rolling dice.

And it was just absolutely wonderful, wonderful experience.

And then getting to go around and shop at Foundry and buying some of their minis was also a real treat because we don't get those here in the States, at least not anywhere I go.

So that was that was really neat to, to go in there and spent more than I should have.

But I said, you know, who knows the next time I'll be able to make it back.

So I might as well get well, the getting is good and I'll beg forgiveness from my wife later when she gets the credit card bill.

Yeah, keep it secret, keep it safe as.

As we say.

Exactly.

Yeah, but I think you made some very, very worthwhile investments there mate, in in the Foundry stuff because they do some really, really nice models.

And I saw that on the Foundry Bring out your Lead.

Sorry, the Bring Out Lead weekend.

They released a lot of the old Britonian miniatures that I think you met Dale on the day he said he met someone there from America.

If he doesn't know who it was, I think it's you actually.

David Dale from the Painting Outlaw Studios YouTube channel.

Yeah, I think probably it was.

I mean, there may have been some other Americans there, so forgive me if there were, but I, I didn't, I don't think I met any other Americans.

So there could have been some hanging about.

But myself and my friend Mike were, were the only two that I knew of who were there.

So it had to have either been my myself or my good friend Mike.

So yeah.

And I met a lot of people and forgive me, I, you know, I barely remember, you know, I'm terrible at names.

But everybody I met was just lovely.

And it was really cool.

And even got to chat with Kev Adams at one point for a couple minutes, which was just a real treat for for an old timer like me.

Yeah, nice mate.

Wonderful.

Yeah, I'm sure everyone could probably sit next to Kevin and have a chat with him for a while over a beer or something like that.

Bring it LED.

That be probably one of the highlights of my trip if I was able to go there and do that at their opportunity.

So that's wonderful, man.

I'm really glad you had a good time.

You got to meet a lot of people that you've associated with and corresponded through Discord or Facebook or whatever with, and you got to play some games and roll some dice.

So all around that amazing hobby hobby hobby weekend for you there so.

Yeah, absolutely.

Well worth the trip to anybody who's contemplating it.

We're on the fence.

I would just say do it.

You'll I think you'll thank yourself for for making the effort well worth it and I will hope to make it back as soon as my wife allows it.

She allows you into the Treasury again.

And takes.

Money out of the coffers.

OK, that's good, man.

So I'm sure a lot of people may have asked you, I don't know if that's true or not, but they would ask Tay David, when's the next call of the Crown?

Well, yeah, so we have that kicking off officially on October 1st.

But September is kind of the run up two edits when we get the quote UN quote official rules promulgated and get the excitement built up and get people starting to declare what armies they're going to do and starting to paint, post pictures of the armies they're going to paint and and what have you.

And so, yeah, it's September is kind of the runoff.

October 1st is the launch date.

Thought you gave a real good rundown on your last gore talk, which was great.

But obviously if you have any specific questions or what have you, I'm happy to to answer those.

Or if you want me to give a rundown of it again, I'm happy to do that too.

Yeah, mate.

Just just let's go through it just just in more detail because I think for my confusion was which e-mail address to send it to and that kind of thing, which you kindly sent me the information to me yesterday.

So I'll post it up in our Gork talk today so people can have access to that.

And I'll put up in my Facebook group and I'll, I'll pin it up.

I don't know if it's pinned on our Discord, but we'll definitely pin it up there just so that people know where to sit because I've got a lot of questions about where to send the photos and that kind of thing and, and all that kind of stuff.

So let's just for everybody who's listening, who maybe not have don't have access to that document, can we just go through yeah, the the months and where to send photos and what's the minimum requirement, what miniatures are legal, all those kind of things for the.

Chairman.

Yeah, happy to do that.

And yeah, shame on me for not getting out the e-mail when I initially started putting stuff out there on it.

You know, I always forget something.

In this case it was the e-mail.

So anyway, that is the most important thing I suppose, is you need to know where to send the pictures at the 1st of each month showing what meanings you're going to paint for that month.

And the e-mail address is callofthecrown@gmail.com and it's spelled exactly how you would think.

Call of the crown at gmail.com and so in the 1st of each month.

You can do it before then too if you've got all your stuff sorted and you want to just make sure you don't forget.

You can always send it in early, but but by the 1st of each month, I need a photo from you with a picture attached just showing me what you're going to paint that month, showcasing the models that you're going to do.

And it's, it's OK to be overly ambitious.

You know, if you think you're going to knock out 500 points that month, it's OK that you don't do it all.

As long as you get one legal unit out of it, you can advance.

So I know some people worry about that.

We encourage you to be ambitious, you know, bite off as much as you think you can chew in a month of painting and get done what you can get done.

As long as you get one legal unit, which is usually 5 models but sometimes less, you're good and you advance.

So with that in mind, yeah, so that's what you got to do by the 1st of each month is get that, get that e-mail to me with a photo.

And then at the honor before the last day of that month, send me a photo of what you've painted for that month.

And again, as long as it's a legal unit, you're good to go.

And then you're, you know, I'm, I'm sure some of you are probably thinking, well, what's a legal unit?

Well, so basically any, any kind of any addition of Warhammer Fantasy, the Old World or Warhammer Renaissance is, is fine.

So if it's legal under one of those rule sets, you're good.

I take people at their word.

I'm not in the habit of looking things up.

So, you know, if you send it to me, make sure it's legal under whatever your preferred rule set is.

And I'll take you at your word and, and we'll, we'll kind of choose good and, and you can move on.

I, I know there's a lot of people who play a lot of different things, some old world players, guys that like third editions, some people like even older editions, some people like 6, some people, a lot of people like Warhammer Renaissance.

So you choose the rule set that, that throw, you know, floats your boat and, and what we'll call that good.

And the goal is you want to get to the end of the challenge by getting 1000 points painted under said rule set.

So because the goal is to, to either get you a playable army if you don't have one, or in a lot of people's cases, get you a good supplemental force to an existing army.

I know, I think GJ is doing that for his high elves.

He's he's trying to paint up 1000 points of additional high elf stuff that he can stick on to, to his existing high off army.

So we don't want, you know, we don't want to exclude those people either.

So yeah, either get you 1000 points.

That's a playable army if you don't have an army that faction or if you do just a supplemental force that you can, you can merge with it.

And, and that's what I did last year actually, is I had an existing high L force and I painted up a bunch of high L stuff to add to it.

And now I've got a, a nice high style farming.

So either way it works great.

The goal, you know, the goal here is we just want to get you painting stuff that then you'll get it on the table and play with it because after all, for most of us, that's what we want to do.

Yep, absolutely mate.

It's one of the best ways of getting miniatures painted and on the table gaming again.

So that's that's great.

Now to and thank you very much for your rundown on that.

I think we've covered all bases there, so everyone should have all the information.

If not, contact David directly at the callofthecrown@gmail.com to get the answers to your questions.

But I think that's all covered.

So moving on for that mate, we're going to talk about what you've been doing lately in in gaming, in terms of gaming, because I know you've had some games maybe with your brother recently.

Oh yeah, so before I left for Boyle I had the chance to play finally after doing 2 years of Call of the Crown.

The first year I got my Dark elf army pain and the second I supplemented my high Elf and so we were able to kick off after however many years it's been.

I think here's Aisha debuted in 97.

If my my old brains working today.

And anyway, so that's almost 30 years of waiting to get a battle actually played out of that.

And so we we kicked it off and had a battle.

The first we we got in the opening battle there, the blooded shores, I think it's called, and my brother promptly defeated my dark elves.

And of course, in in classic fashion, the the newest painted stuff, you know, was was decimated and and failed 1st and the hydra, as he's always wanted to do, fails his first bound monster check.

He did it at boil too.

So it's really becoming a thing.

I just he guaranteed guaranteed failure on the first bound monster test of of the game.

And so yeah, but it was a fun game.

It was a lot of fun.

And you know, it's a little bit of a tall order.

I think the Dark Elf's got to go knock down that beacon and you realize, I think it's the dark Elf player.

That's that's that's tougher than it looks.

Oh.

Mate, just just play me mate, play me David, you, you're in with a guaranteed win mate, you know, don't worry about.

It Yeah, I'll have to try that sometime.

In fact, don't take the hydra, just don't take the hydra.

Just take.

Everything else would be fine.

Exactly.

I think that's the secret.

Levi's at home, take one cold one nights.

But but yeah, so that was a great fun, always fun to to play my brother and especially cool to do it in a campaign pack where it's about two brothers fighting each other, which is pretty cool.

So yeah, hopefully we'll be able to reconnect this fall and get a chance to move on to the next one because I've got everything painted up for that.

And then from there it's on to the the 3rd and 4th battle of that series.

I think I have a little more painting to do to to get the third one, but not too much.

And then the 4th one we should be able to do too, just from what we've got on hand.

So yeah, yeah, it should be a good time.

And at some point we'll be getting those uploaded to the my YouTube channel, 5th Hammer, for anybody who's interested.

We'll be able to see how how and how it goes.

And if my brother's luck keeps holding, it will be a good day for for all the High Elf fans out there.

OK, that's good.

That's I'm really looking forward to those videos and you brought another good point there, 5th Hammer YouTube channel.

Go and check it out because you already posted up quite a lot of stuff and I still need to send you an order recording, which I hope to do today actually.

For you, for the, yeah, yeah, the tales, tales from the Old World Series where we, we, we explore those cool narrative vignettes from the campaign books and the army books and whatnot.

And I kind of tell the story of the the Warhammer world's lore through those.

OK mate, that sounds great.

So any a little blister poppings or a blister poppings?

Yeah, popping blisters, yeah.

Popping.

Blisters yeah, we've we've we've we've got quite a few of those and I'm excited the next episode we're going to pop open some of these Al Qahtani Fellowship pikemen for the My Dogs of War army for Call the Crown that I'm going to do this year.

So these guys, yeah, with their big lawn Pikes, they kind of have the Hoplite armor and helmets and stuff like that.

And yeah, I'm going to do a big block of those guys to to kick off Call the crown.

OK, that's a good point.

So you're you're doing Dogs of War.

This this time?

This time around, Yeah.

Yeah, myself, Mark and I think at least one other person are going to do Dogs of War.

So fair, fairly popular choice, but that's good because there's a lot of Dogs of War units.

So I think none of the armies will probably look the same and yet we'll all be Dogs of War.

So I'm really excited to see what Mark and the other person end up doing and it'll be cool to to see how we all progress through the challenge.

Yeah, Dogs award is an interesting one.

I've never seen them played, but I actually know that's that's that's not true.

I've seen Aki play here.

He uses the one Renaissance rules for them, but it's a very distinctive 5th edition rule set because I think it's the only army book that came out for any of the editions.

Dogs award was kind of A, to my knowledge anyway, a 5th edition exclusive.

Yeah, I think they released a 6th edition Rules maybe in a white tour for somewhere later.

I think Alessio Cavatori wrote him up somewhere, but I don't think they got a full army book proper in 6th And yeah, in 5th.

It's a it's a great army book.

There's just a lot of real cool character in there.

You could tell that they were having fun when they did it.

And yeah, it's just it's a great read even if you don't intend to feel dogs war army ever.

I think if if you love the Warhammer world, you love the war and you have the writing in that time too.

I, I think Rick Priestley definitely had his hands in it because it kind of has that distinct Priestly sense of humour to a lot of things in there.

And it's just worth, it's worth picking up just for the fun of reading it and the artwork and stuff too, even if you're not going to feel the Dogs War army.

Great.

OK mate, we'll have a great time painting those then for the Call of the Crown.

I've been in two mines.

I think I started off with Empire.

I read a list for that.

For the challenge, then it changed to orphan goblins and now it's changed to a bit of a bit of a bit of everything.

But then I think if it starts in October, I've got to do something for October.

It'd be yeah.

So I might I might revert.

Back to the.

What I initially planned the black wolf boss with a few black walks or something like that and see if I can squeeze those in.

Towards the.

End well, that'll be I think a nice palate cleanser for you from all the empire that I know you've been been working on probably.

So yeah, getting made some works and gobbles probably feel real good.

Yeah, I've, I've been really enjoying doing the 40K Orks at the moment.

So yeah, may, may just just sort of transpire into 4th edition stuff because I do need a black ork unit.

I do need some backbone there in my Org goblin list, that's for sure.

So I do look, I do really look forward to painting those because it's full of checks.

It's full of, you know, lots of colour, like even they're all sort of really dark skin.

There's a lot of Reds and yeah, like white and black checker Marks and other kinds of freehand you can put on there.

So I'm looking forward to getting stuck into that.

So I need to rethink about what I'm going to do for that, for the challenge at the moment.

I think that's going to be the, but that's the flat.

That's wonderful.

Thing about it is that you can take all Goblins, October, Hiles in November, you know, Dogs of War, December.

You could mix, really mix it up with just taking something that you have sitting on the shelf that maybe is just going to fill in that extra 100 points or 200 points in your regular army and have a nice lovely turntable of different projects you can work from.

Yeah, and that's absolutely true.

And I think that's a great point that that might go overlooked because I know I think in previous some of the previous iterations that call the crown, you had to commit to doing one army or one particular faction.

And you certainly don't have to do that here.

A lot of people will, but you're, you're certainly free to do as many factions or, or forces as you want again, as long as you stick to that one, get get one legal unit completed and you hit your thousand points by the end.

It could be two armies, 3 armies, what have you Again, because a lot of us are in a position where we've got several armies at this point and you kind of want to add some new forces to them for.

So for somebody in that position being able to paint up.

Some regiments for your existing armies and then tack them on at the end of the challenge.

We don't want to exclude those people from it.

You know, come on in, have some fun.

And, and it'd be great to see, frankly, it'd be great to see see those kind of folks get their entries all done at the end and see how many different armies they did, did the did, did some painting for and, and see them all together there.

And yeah, it'd be great.

I think my favorite part of this whole challenge, honestly, is really seeing what everybody else does.

I mean, it's great as a motivator for me to get to the painting bench and gets my stuff painted.

But honestly, what inspires me and keeps me going from month to month is we're seeing what other people get done.

It gives me ideas.

It keeps the creative juices flowing.

It keeps me when I'm kind of dragging.

And they're like, oh, man, I really don't want to go paint tonight.

I don't know.

And then I pop open the Discord and see somebody's, oh, hey, check what I've done.

And, you know, it's like, wow, that's cool.

And, you know, maybe I'll go back.

You know, it gives me a little bit of fresh wind in the sails, if you will.

And so to me that that's my favorite part of the whole thing is to seeing what everybody does.

And kind of on that note, I, I might have forgot to mention this earlier on, just as far as minis and stuff go, I do want to mention it is it is open to non GW, non citadel, non marauder miniatures.

We do encourage you to pick minis that are in the spirit of old Hammer, middle Hammer, Hero Hammer, but you are free to kind of go outside those sets.

I know that that, you know, I buy them.

I know what the price is.

And so for some people that's not an option.

And some people just like to kind of collect stuff that's in that vein, but it is more modern.

Like, I, I know I buy a ton of stuff off Drew Williams at Satyr Studios.

I mean, and his stuff is, you know, almost indistinguishable from a lot of that old hammer stuff and it looks great.

So I, we, we don't want to exclude that.

We, we don't want to exclude, you know, those guys sculpts, nightmare miniatures does a a ton of great stuff too.

So, you know, we don't want to exclude those guys who are out there kind of keeping that aesthetic alive just because they didn't sculpt it in, you know, 1994 or whatever.

So, you know, you be the judge of what keeps in that spirit for you.

I'm not in the habit of policing stuff.

So you don't have to worry about emailing me and saying like, hey, is this OK?

You know, can I use this?

Don't you know if, if you feel like it's in the spirit of old hammer middle Hammer, you, you do it and have fun with it and everybody will enjoy seeing it.

Also, mate, that's great.

Well, it's, yeah, like I said, it's a very inclusive challenge, so grab whatever you got there and it could be a whole model of different, different additions or different manufacturers and hobble together and make something out of it and get that stuff painted.

So thank you very much again, David, for coming on today, even though it's so brief, but it was lovely to talk to you again and to go over the challenge.

And I know a lot of people are really excited about kicking off in October and getting this underway, mate.

So until then, I hope you enjoy seeing and get inspired by all the other people's entries.

And we'll follow closely on the Crap the Chronic Command discord, which I'll leave a link to in the the podcast description here so people can follow on there.

They can follow it on your channel that's Fifth Hammer on YouTube.

Yep, yeah, we'll, we'll post the monthly compilation videos showcasing what everybody got done that particular month on the YouTube channel.

And then at the end I'll have everybody take a photo of everything they painted during the challenge.

And we'll do kind of a Army or Forces showcase for everything that you did over the course of the challenge.

And that's always real cool to see too, because you know, seeing, seeing, you know, when you get to the end and you get to look back and see everything you did and see everything everybody else did.

I think it's really inspiring.

It certainly is to me.

So yeah, anyway, it seems like we've got some great excitement building for it already on the Discord, A lot of people turning out, which is great.

And I'm hopefully we get even more and glad you'll be joining us this year with your orcs and goblins, Josh.

And yeah, thanks so much for having me.

And if anybody has questions, you can e-mail me again the e-mail address callofthecrown@gmail.com or feel free to just tag me in the channel and the discord.

I, I pretty much check it at least once a day.

So you, you should get some back.

And I know some of the other guys in there are fielding questions too.

Alec Cam's been a big help.

They're doing that.

So anyhow, we should be able, if not me, somebody will get back to you in a timely fashion.

And then, yeah.

And October 1st is the kickoff.

So if you're thinking about it, and I encourage you to come on in, you still got a little time here to get your forces put together to decide what you want to do and come on in and answer the call of the crown.

Awesome, mate.

OK, fantastic.

Well, thank you so much again, David for today and we'll have you back on at some point in the future on a Spider Nutter to talk about the entries and maybe the final in the final month, go through the final photos of what people have produced over those six months and we look forward to that, mate, OK.

That'll be lovely.

Thanks, Josh.

OK mate, until next time, we'll catch you later.

All right.

Sounds good.

Cheers.
