Speaker 1Welcome to the Patriots Pregame Show fueled by Dunkin.
Speaker 4It is Week thirteen of the NFL season, and I'm sure the Patriots can smell their Week fourteen bye week just ahead.
We all do as well.
Right, is that the candle.
Speaker 5Smell the bias?
Speaker 4It smells so good.
Paul Paroles here miked, So I'm Kwannie Lennis, thank you for joining us here of a Monday night football matchup against another than the New York Football Other than It's gonna be a good one.
Speaker 3I hope that's gonna be a little I have a hard time tonight, A lot of pressure on us.
Speaker 4They're holding the fort down today.
Speaker 5There's no Giants blue.
I thought there'd be some Giants.
Speaker 4The Patriots blue today.
For the Patriots, of course, absolutely, and of course the team.
The matchup is intriguing just because historically it is a good one.
But we still need to note the Patriots are tending to the Giants too, and ten for a reason for.
Speaker 5The records tonight twenty it's Monday Night football.
It's it's been a long at that point.
Speaker 6Now there needs to be a win for the Patriots.
Speaker 5That they've had multiple score leads in the fourth quarter, and why can't they hold on with tonight?
You know, I don't know.
Speaker 3I would tonight be the week that they're hold on to it?
Hey, exactly, Why don't you have a little optimism?
No, don't you change your ways?
Speaker 5And understand I'm preparing myself because the Giants have ended some wind streaks in the past.
I don't know if everybody's aware of that, but.
Speaker 4My lips, I don't.
Speaker 6I don't ye.
Speaker 3I spent the whole pre the whole pre show.
You know, when we do show prep.
You come in here show prep when I'm eating donuts, and you were just perpetually optimistic.
And you come out of the shoot the first two minutes of the show and you're talking about a certain winning streak getting broken by the new.
Speaker 4Like going way back to eighteen games.
This one's still too soon, I know for Pats fans.
Speaker 3Giants know a little something about in winning street.
Speaker 5I mean, I was out on the the you know, out by the tunnel out there, and I you know, I see those white jerseys and I just I can't help you.
It's lost two Super Bowls to that team.
And I get a little bit PTSD when I see that the white with the white unions from the Giants, although I will say I had to go back because I was looking at their pants.
They wear white pants now they used to wear gray pants, and so not quite as triggering as it might be.
Speaker 4For real, where did he come from?
Speaker 5I'm just preparing for a game, preparing for a game, back and forth, off with the talk.
I just think the Giants and Jackson Dark coming back fast and loose.
Let it rip, you know.
Offensive coordinator takes over somebody.
You know, they fire their defensive coordinator last week, someone new stepping in for him as well.
I just think they're gonna come after the Patriots, and you know, I think Patriots just need to be ready for that kind of game.
And now maybe I'm wrong, maybe the Patriots are ready to go.
But I asked Formando Stevenson when we were in the locker room on Saturday about this schedule that they've had with a Thursday night game, then a long week to Sunday.
Now they've had a longer week to get getting those guys thrown off their routine a little bit.
I'm just looking at this game as a one off kind of a cap for the regular season on Monday night football, national audience against a team that you have some history with.
But you know, there's an a lot of pressure on the Patriots NFC team.
I mean, if they if they did lose this game, I don't think it's the end of the world.
But I just would love to see them wrap up this first part of the season, get a win, have all of your dreams and hopes in your own hands as you look at those final four games.
Those final four games aren't going to be all about playoff off seeding and division titles and trying to jockey.
Tonight, it's just about come out here, finish off this part first pat first part of the season strong, and come out with a win.
Speaker 3Yeah, I agree, Mike, and I think it's important that they do that.
You know, Denver, you know, almost gave them a little help last night.
Washington couldn't quite pull off the upset, so they are kind of forced to, you know, holt serve and keep pace with the Broncos that you know, both on nine game winning streaks, right, nine.
Speaker 5Yeah, the Patriots are yeah, right, yeah.
Speaker 3Both on nine game winning streaks.
So I agree with you in that it wouldn't be you know, the end of the season or anything disastrous if they were to slip up and lose this game tonight, non conference, but if you have your eyes on that number one seed, it would be important.
We do have a little bit of news too, because of the the enactors you know, are already out and some good news for the Patriots.
Earlier today, the Patriots added Garrett Bradberry to the injury report with an illness.
Obviously, you're already down to starting minment.
Will Campbell on ir with the knee injury.
Jared Wilson, you know was gonna miss this game.
We already knew that with an ankle injury, so to lose your center would have been really problematic.
Brad Berry is at least gonna give it a go tonight anyway.
So only down two, not three starting offensive linemen.
The one addition to that list that is noteworthy to me, Mike Kyris Tong.
Speaker 5Again for sure without you know, you already lost Milton Williams a couple of weeks ago, and now you know, Tong has been playing great, especially against the run.
This is a Giants team that really wants to try to establish the run.
They're gonna try to run the ball.
So it really puts a spotlight to me on guys like Corey Durdin who's been, you know, playing well, but I think they really need to lean, you know, lean into him.
And then you know, the other part of it to the guy who's missed a couple of games, Josh Farmbosh Farmer as well.
He's going to be back and be healthy.
So those guys alongside Christian Barmer are really gonna have to go in there and turn in a good performance today because they're gonna the Giants are gonna try to run the ball at those guys for sure.
Uh, they were already going to do it, and now that your depth is being tested, they'll they'll probably be even more likely to do it.
And then you know, we'll see Kate and Wallace active for the first time you mentioned that, Paul, if you know, if Bradberry were not able to continue, you might then you might see all of a sudden, Ben Brown sliding from left guard to center and Kayden Wallace in it left tackle or left guard, and there just a lot of change that you'd like.
Speaker 3Well, Brendon Himus, who was elevated from the practice squad, you know, to ostensibly provide some depth at guard.
So yeah, we'll keep an eye on all that, all that stuff.
So keep an eye on Bradberry, see if he's able.
You know, he's going to start.
You know, we'll see if he's able to go the whole way.
And the other thing, Mike, that you and I with that inactive list, Marcus Bryant, who is you know, basically been your backup right tackle so far, and when Morgan Moses has missed a snap or two here or there.
You know, Marcus Bryant has gone in tonight.
He's inactive, you know, and they have helped me.
Speaker 5Out like the Academy junior.
Speaker 3You know, they just were able to reacquire He was on the practice squad briefly went to Cleveland.
Cleveland moved him from their active roster to the practice squad.
The Patriots poached him back and he's up and active tonight.
So my guess is he's your third tackle tonight after Brederian Lowe on the left side, and of course Morgan Moses on the right side.
Speaker 5And do you see him maybe as a sixth offensive lineman maybe for some of the blocking taking care.
Speaker 6Of these edges possibilities Rundless Douce really good.
Speaker 5Only Josh McDaniels knows for sure, but I think there'll be some of that to try to handle these really dynamic edge players that the Giants have.
Speaker 4Yeah, one hundred percent.
And to the point of earlier when you were talking about this matchup, the storylines, of course, people know they picked Giants, just fired their head coach, intermed coach right now, Kafka stepping in.
He was an offensive coordinator before.
So I think this game is also going to be a test of what the Giants are going to be doing when it comes to their play call.
They have a new play call around defense as well, and seeing how like, again, there's nothing at stake for the right now at this point other than just keeping their head up in the.
Speaker 5Season and building around Jackson Dart exactly.
Yes, they went back to build some confidence in him.
And you know, Giants have been in a lot of these games that they've lost, They've had leads in a lot of these games they've lost.
They want to try to, you know, get over the hump.
And I'd say a big part of the play calling to me tonight is before he got hurt and got concussed, they would run him a lot, especially in the goal line design runs for him.
Do they continue to do that stuff with.
Speaker 3Seven rushing touchdowns and you know what only but a half dozen of show starts.
So yeah, I mean, I'm really going to be interested to see how much Mike Kafka allows him to run tonight.
The story on ESPN today, you know, something we're familiar with because we've had a lot of Drake may stories.
Speaker 6It's like a you know, I think Chris.
Speaker 3Gasper was just talking about it when I was on the sports shop with him.
It's like a twelve hundred word story on basically, Hey, yo, Jackson Dart, you.
Speaker 6Need to slide, yeah, slide that game again.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 6You know.
Speaker 3We talked about this a lot earlier in the season, with Drake May taking some unnecessary its.
Speaker 6I'd be curious to see if the.
Speaker 3Giants coaching staff wants to sort of get that out of Dart a little bit.
Speaker 6You know, Let's get you here.
Speaker 3You know, we're in December, now, Let's get you to the end of the season healthy, and then we can sort of build on some of the things you did well and then you know, next year, We're not you know, not taking the running game away from you, because I think that's a big part of what he wants to do.
Speaker 6But it's got to get some experience.
Speaker 5I wonder if it and I don't know, just is it a Dable thing to Dable really like that threat of his legs.
I mean, because Drake May is a great runner too, and we really haven't seen the Patriots try to do, you know, much of that stuff.
But I've just been impressed with how quick Dart is and his ability to these are the things tonight that I I'm just like, I be ready to get driven nuts.
By third down, everybody's covered, he scoots out and you know, picks up some first times.
So Drake may does its other teams all the time, but you know, Jackson dark and scoots and they got to be mindful of it.
Speaker 6And I would be curious to see that.
Speaker 3Is it just those kinds of runs or are they gonna say, you know what, it's third you know, we're going to put it in your hands, Jackson, you know, go and knock a linebacker over, you get a first out, you know, through the Josh Allen thing.
Speaker 6I don't think that's a great way for the Giants to.
Speaker 4That's the fun lot with young quarterbacks too, of like not trying to interrupt their style of play.
Speaker 7Well.
Speaker 4Also, again you're coming from concussion protocol.
You do have to protect your quarterback knowing that your O line may not be able to do so.
Speaker 5Yeah, he's got to trust that, you know, he knows when to get down into and to protect himself.
So because if they don't feel confident in that tonight, I do think it's a big part of their playbook that is out and they don't have Cam Scatabow anymore.
Who was that kind of short yardage power back where they were using Dart for some of those plays.
So we'll see.
Maybe they just lean into Tyrone Tracy and let him have the bulk of those carries.
Speaker 6But I think he's a better player than scatboy.
Yeah, oh yeah.
But yeah, just.
Speaker 5Don't not much death, you know, and when I mean, you know, that've lost a lot when they had some juice going with scatter Bow and Dart when he first came in.
You know, those were those were the two guys kind of leading the charge early on.
But they've had a lot of injuries, just like the Patriots have recently.
Speaker 6Yeah, and those two have been pretty similar.
Speaker 3They basically had the same amount of carries Scheduble a little bit more production, you know.
But that's what the Jet the Giants want to do.
They want to try to be a physical team and sort of shorten the game that way.
So I think that's a real key.
I mean, it kind of brings us to keys ahead.
Speaker 4No, you're perfect, let's get into it.
The keys of the game.
Speaker 8You've waited all week for the whole teams in the locker om, right, now just listening to this, waiting to hear what you're going to say.
Speaker 1Here are this week's keys to the game.
Speaker 4We got so excited about the matchup and as we'll get into the actual keys to this game.
So who wants the honors of going first?
Speaker 5I'll go first.
I'll jump in, you know, along along lines of what I said, I don't really look to take anything from this game in the grand scheme of things.
I just look at this as a great opportunity in front of a national audience with a great atmosphere, for this Patriots team to finish this part of the season end.
I'm going in anticipating that you're going to play a team that is just gonna let it rip, and they might make some mistakes, they might make some big plays, but they're going to continue to play.
And I think that's what the Patriots have to do in my view tonight is don't blink, don't think too much about how the game is unfolding.
What does it mean we let up a drive Vederian log got beat around the corner by Brian Burns, Like you know, these kind of things probably will happen tonight, But just want to see the Patriots show the mental resolve that they've shown all season long when we've seen ups and downs from this team, and towards the end, they've been able to fill it out, you know, play their best when it's on the line.
And can we continue to see that as injuries have piled up with you know Williams, who's been a breath of fresh air this year and has been outstanding.
I mean, Kiris Tong has come out of nowhere, you know, those two guys just on that side of the ball.
And then Jared Wilson and Will Campbell, your two rookies who, yeah, they've been rookies and they've had some rookie moments, but they're you know, their personality is what they've injected into this team in the way that the team rallies around those guys.
So you're gonna see a little bit of a different Patriots team tonight, one that's maybe licking their wounds a little bit and have some guys out.
So can the remaining guys pull together right through the ups and downs of this game with that I think are going to happen and be able to still pull out a win in the end without some of your key players, and you know I should say too, Harold Landry, you know, questionable, he's going to play too.
He's clearly been working through something.
If you met read Mike g Reese's notes this weekend, pointing out you know, he evaded, you know, serious injury against New Orleans, but he's still been dealing with some little stuff.
So guys like him, you know, limp into the finish line a little bit.
But let's not make too big a deal out of it.
Let's go out there in front of the National Alliance have and see a great game.
Speaker 6Yeah, I agree with Mike.
Speaker 3You know, you're a little banged up, and you know, just sort of stay focused, keep your eye on the prize and keep that in the future, and concentrate on what's going on.
And I think it's going to be one of those kinds of games where you know, my key is bring your hard hats, and I just think it's going to be one of those physical games, one in the trenches.
I know you could say, you know, all games are one in the trenches.
I don't necessarily believe that's the case, but you know, I watched a little over the weekend, and you know, I watched what Chicago did on Black Friday in Philly, and I watched what Buffalo did yesterday in Pittsburgh.
You know, to game two teams on the road in tough weather that just absolutely dominated that the line of scrimmage and you know, ran for two hundred plus yards.
In Buffalo's case, shortened the game and worked around their deficiencies.
If they had to have a traditional Buffalo offensive game plan against Pittsburgh, I think they would have been in trouble without their two tackles and with those edge rushers for the Steelers, and I think they would have had they would have been hard pressed to keep up.
So I think the Giants want to run the ball tonight.
Patriots need to make sure they don't let them do it well.
Speaker 4Right on Q we can go behind enemy Lines and learn more from Matthew Sitek from Giants dot Com.
By the way, behind Enemy Lines is brought to you by Pepsi.
Game Day is here, So stock up now, grab a refreshing Pepsi zero sugar dolt back now because tailor gating deserves better.
And Matthew, we were just talking about obviously this historical matchup, but also the realistic part of the fact that the Giants are not having the best season this year.
But right off the top from you, the coaching changes over the last few weeks generally can always affect the way a team plays.
So what are you expecting in this one, especially with a new defensive caller in this game tonight.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's certainly been an interesting last couple of weeks with all the changes on the coaching staff, but we'll focus just on the defensive coordinator change since that was the most recent one.
So this is gonna be the first game that the defense will be playing under new defensive coordinator Charlie Bullen.
This is his first time calling plays, but he is an very experienced NFL coach.
He has a ton of experience under Vance Joseph Matt Burke, two of the top defensive coordinators across the NFL.
You guys, I'm sure accustomed to them in the AFC over there.
So I think we can expect to see maybe a slightly more aggressive defense then we've kind of seen under Shane Bowen previously.
I mean, those are, you know, hallmark characteristics of the Broncos and Texans defense.
So I do think the defense is going to be maybe a little more aggressive.
Now.
The defense took a little bit of a hit because Cavon Thibodau will be missing his third consecutive game, obviously one of the starting outside linebackers alongside Brian Burns.
Speaker 4But that just means bigger opportunity for Abdul.
Speaker 2Carter to, you know, hopefully attack that injured left side of the Patriots offensive line, maybe get his first full NFL sack tonight.
Speaker 5Along those lines, Matt, he seems like he's been productive but hasn't really resulted in the sack numbers.
What have you seen from that rookie Abdul Carter?
And do you expect him to be a big factor tonight going against Patriots banged up tackles here.
Speaker 9Yeah.
Speaker 2So obviously when you're the number three overall pick, you have some high expectations.
And so when you look at his stats through the first twelve games, you only see half a sack in the box score.
You know, that doesn't jump off the page, of course, but if you look at at some of the underlying metrics, he's getting a ton of pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
It's just none of them have really translated to sacks.
You look at the guy on the opposite side of the defensive line, Brian Burns.
His pressure numbers aren't that high, but he's converting them into sacks at I believe, the highest rate of any outside linebacker in the NFL.
So ab Blu Carter has still found a way to make an impact.
It just he hasn't come up with any of those big, splashy plays that I think we are all kind of expecting, you know, looking at his tape from Penn State the last couple of years.
So again going up against a backup left tackle, backup left guard, maybe this is his night, you know, in primetime on the national television to have one of those breakout performances.
Speaker 3Matthew On the other side of the ball, you get Jackson Dart back in the lineup tonight, and I know he's been his legs have been a big part of what he's done.
But also you have the you know, the drawback with the concussion issues.
So how much do you expect to see Mike Kafka actually ask him to use his legs tonight or do you think they try to reel him in and keep him a little bit more protected.
Speaker 2Yeah, So that's definitely, you know, a million dollar question.
I think we've all been wondering since Jackson got clearance from the concussion protocol a couple of days ago.
If I had to guess, I would say, you know, maybe Kafka doesn't call quite as many designed runs for Jackson, you know, those plays where he's specifically going out and running with the ball.
But Jackson's still going to scramble, you know, He's still going to extend plays with his legs, and I don't think the coaching staff is going to.
Speaker 4Encourage him to not do that.
Speaker 2It's such a big part of his game and such a big reason why he's had so much success through his first seven starts.
So I do think Jackson will still run with the ball, but I probably a couple less of the design runs that we've accustomed to seeing.
Speaker 5Just sticking with Dark, what have you seen?
How have you seen him progress from his first days as a rookie in training camp to you know, finally getting his shot, going out and getting hurt now he comes back.
How have you seen him develop?
Speaker 6Yeah, I mean he's.
Speaker 2Really been impressive since day one.
Now, we try not to too much stock in rookies or anyone really having strong performance during training camp in the preseason because at the end of the day, that doesn't it doesn't really matter until you do it when the games actually count.
And so it wasn't the biggest surprise though when he carried over that success from the summer into the regular season.
I mean, I don't know if we expect it quite as you know, hot of a start right out of the gate, but the way he kind of commands the huddle, commands the offense, calls the system as you know, the whoever's calling the plays wants him to it has been very impressive.
And you know, he showed a lot of good characteristics around the offense between just his way going through the progressions, hitting the open receivers in stride.
So he's really been an impressive start to his career.
For Jackson, you know, we're hoping coming out of this concussion, coming out of a couple of games off, that he can continue his strong play from earlier in the season and you know, finish the season strong.
Speaker 5Follow up with a question about THEO Johnson seems like he's really taken off this year and it seems like dark really looks his way, big body, tight end.
Patriots have had some trouble with those kind of guys.
How have you seen him progress this year?
Speaker 2Yeah, so THEO Johnson had a little bit of a slow start to the season, but then as soon as Jackson Dart took over, his production just started skyrocketing.
He seems to be Jackson's favorite red zone target.
He leads the team in touchdowns this year with five, But it's really been the last couple of games.
He's set new career highs in two of the last three games for the Giants, including last week against the Lions.
I believe it was seventy seventy seven yards.
But the thing that really impressed me was he had a one catch where he just jumped high, pointed the ball really like full extension, and made the grab, was able to get both feet down.
He's really taking a nice jump in year two, and him and Jackson just have a really strong connection going.
Speaker 3Matthew, how close are the Giants to the team that's able to get two score leads in the games or are they closer to the team that just can't seem to close them out?
I mean it's two and ten, but what what do you think that this team's potential is?
Speaker 2Yeah, I mean Look, this is the best Giants offense that we've seen in probably fifteen years.
I mean, they have scored over twenty points in I believe it's seven straight games, and that's two of them obviously without Jackson Dark Jameis Winston filling in, So the offense has really been firing on all cylinders.
Speaker 6It's and they're the ones.
Speaker 2That obviously, you know, getting out to these double digit leads.
Speaker 6It's obviously been the defense.
Speaker 2That have been kind of unable to slow the opponents down in the fourth quarter, which is, of course, as we know, the most important time where you got to come up with.
Speaker 6Those big stops.
Speaker 2So I don't think this team is that far away.
I mean, obviously, when you're a two and ten team, you can't, you know, expect to just flip a switch and all of a sudden become a Super Bowl contender overnight.
But I think, you know, the bones of this team, the structure, it kind of reminds me, honestly of what you guys probably went through last season.
Once you found Drake May is your rookie quarterback, you have a good roster.
You know, we'll see what happens with the coaching search this upcoming offseason.
But I really don't think that this Giants team is too far away from at least being, you know, in that playoff hunt going into next year.
Speaker 4Well, we don't need to see them do that this year.
Selfishly speaking before a Giant fan by the way, before we let you go, what is your prediction for this one?
Speaker 2Oh, I don't want to give any you know, win lost predictions.
Speaker 6I think it's going to be a close, a close game though.
Speaker 2You know, obviously you Patriots are ten to two riding this nine game winning streak.
It'll be an oppressive win if the Giants can come out with the upset.
I do think it's gonna be a very close game, though, I would say my prediction is it will end in a one possession game one way or the other.
Speaker 4Because you work for Giants dot Com, we want you to keep your job as well.
That's acceptable for this time.
Thank you so much for your time.
We have could ask you more questions.
Well, we appreciate you stopping by.
Speaker 5Thanks Matt, Thank you much tonight.
Speaker 3So that's twice these two guys that refuse to give us a prediction.
Cowannie's right, you know, sometimes not everybody's liked it like it is here.
Speaker 4Yeah, right, not every team exactly.
Speaker 3We worked for Pages dot Com and they give us a little latitude to sort of, you know, analyze.
I think a little bit more than some other teams too, and but I think it was interesting the way you sort of I think he's landing now he's Giants dot Com guy.
This is the way we probably if it were, if we were in the same spot.
They're good enough to get these two score leads, some of them late, I mean fourth quarter two score leads, but they're not quite good enough to close them out.
And the problem has been defensively, which you know is one reason why, uh you know, Shane Bowen lost his job.
But Mike, they have a lot of money tied up on that side of the ball.
Speaker 6They should be better.
Speaker 5I liked what he said.
That was where my head was going.
But this seems like a team next year that will probably get a fourth place sket like the Patriots did this year.
They're going to get a high round draft pick to add a little bit more talent.
Speaker 6Fourth place schedule this year, it's the hardest schedule in football.
Speaker 4Really, like fact really, Oh yeah.
Speaker 5It's funny how that works.
Huh, Like, I mean, this whole thing is designed to keep teams.
You know, you just think, oh, you finished the top division, you're going to play other top teams in the division.
And it doesn't seem to work.
Speaker 3But there's only three games that are like that.
Yeah, you know, the other fourteen games, you're playing your division teams twice.
You play the same division on one in each conference, like you know, like the Patriots in Buffalo played virtually the same schedule.
There's three games difference.
Now those three games make a big difference because Buffalo played Houston, Kansas City, and Philadelphia as opposed to the Giants, the Raiders, and the Titans.
Speaker 5Yeah, there you go.
Yeah, I bet it was good off still get another fourth place year, But they have the quarterback now, and I think that's you know, if you can win some games here down the stretch.
For them, Patriots didn't want necessarily win games because they wanted.
Speaker 6The draft decks.
Speaker 5That's probably the they're also having there.
But you know, you can see Malik Neighbors comes back next year and Abdul Carter has a year under his belt, and they've got the talent in the right spots, kind of like the Patriots did.
Where Patriots needed the left tackle, they went and got him last year.
But we'll see they'll have an opportunity to probably have another high round dropt pack this year.
Get somebody to help Jackson Dart exactly.
Speaker 4We're taking a look right now at some of the receivers.
Little Tennis how Well is exactly a little hand eye coordination games.
But we were talking the matchup about one thing I wanted to ask Matthew was just about offensively, how the Giants, despite their lack of good defense, plan on pressuring Drake May and this one which is part of my key as well, just thinking fast and making sure that he's not taking too long to make decisions in the pocket tonight.
But how do you too, foresee this lackluster Giants defense to.
Speaker 5Protect the edges?
I mean, Brian Burns has a ton of sacks, and like we said, the rookie Abdul Carter doesn't have the sack numbers, but he's a disruptive guy and he's really athletic, So I would expect you'll see some misdirection stuff trying to get those guys to be aggressive, come down, and you know, then all of a sudden the ball's going the other way.
But you know, Dexter Lawrence is a piece too.
I think he's hurt, like he just he's not playing as much.
I think he intimated this week in the locker room that seems like he's fighting through an elbow injury.
Didn't practice the first two days, so he's dealing with something.
That's a little bit of a break for the Patriots.
But they got to protect the edges, protect the edges on those two guys, and I think they'll be okay.
Speaker 6Do you think that.
Speaker 3Josh mcgeniels will have to do some different things tonight to help out Bitarian low third and lungs.
Speaker 5Yeah?
Yeah, I mean in certain spots, I would say, I mean, I just you just want to try to stay out of those points, you know.
But I would say, ideally you'd like to run the ball and keep the defense on their heels and not you know, get into situations where you're gonna be predictable and it's going to give Brian Burns a chance to just get out on a wide nine and you know it's a third and fifteen and you gotta have it.
Like those are not situations that the Patriots want to be in tonight, So you know, to your point Kwanny playing safe not giving them turnovers.
Just you know, it's kind of what I was saying.
I just I don't know what to expect tonight, but not good things if you don't have.
Speaker 3Brian Burns, you know, has been as productive as the as the pastor I mean, he's second only to Miles Garrett.
And if you wanted to be snarky about it, who better than Paul snarky about it?
The difference between Brian Burns and Miles Garrett is Brian Burns hasn't played the Patriots yet, ya, Miles Garrett had five against the Patriots.
Obviously you know Miles Garrett is the better player or not.
See John just you know, making the point that Brian Burns is a guy who needs to be reckoned with.
And I definitely think that Josh McDaniels has to give some extra help to Mogan, Moses in Vederian Lowe, whichever the case may be, Chips with the tight end, maybe you know, sliding some of the protections that way, maybe moving almost a dart, moving may you know, away from from that side.
But I would be really surprised if if McDaniels didn't do some of those things.
We didn't see a lot of that last year with Alex van Pelt, who I thought did a better job than he was given credit for overall.
But one thing that I would say where the criticism was warranted is I don't think he did a lot game plan wise to work around his deficiencies up front.
McDaniels has done a much better job with that.
Speaker 4Another thing that we will talk about after the break you mentioned is that they should focus on the running dames, but they've been struggling, so stick around.

Now back to the Patriots Pregame Show fueled by Duncan.
Speaker 4Go back into the Patriots pregame by Duncan.
Duncan will be keeping us up all night for this exciting Monday night football matchup.
But like right before the break, we talked about the run game.
Yeah, well let's get right into it.
Yeah, what exactly are you two expecting in this one?
Speaker 5Well, I'd love to target there, you know, thirty second in yards, thirty second in yards per attempt.
You'd love to feel like you could run the ball tonight, shorten the game a little bit, take the pressure off with the edge rushers.
But the Patriots haven't been able to run the ball really at all this year, and last week with Mondra Stevenson came back seemed more like he is in you know, a very small role, almost more for his blocking than really his carries.
But even having Terrell Jennings back, you know, and seeing last week, I mean the Lions piled up what I mean two hundred and thirty seven rushing yards, and I mean the Patriots don't have that that run game, but you just would love to see Trevan Henderson get in space like we saw last week with the Lions and you know, making those kind of big plays that just changed the complexion of the game, something they were missing last week.
So if there's any universe where they can get this running game going and Trell Jennings is going and Remondra breaks a couple of you know, Travon Henderson's making big plays, I think this it would just be a huge, huge win for this team in terms of just taking the Giants out of what they want to do.
They want to get after the quarterback third a long situations, stay out of those run.
Speaker 6The ball be huge.
Speaker 3Yeah, I do think there's always the possibility that Henderson, you know, it turns in a big player or two the way.
Speaker 6Gibbs did for for Detroit last week.
I'm just not expecting it.
Speaker 3I I'm not saying I'm giving up forever on the run game, but I'm not going to predict it until I see it happen on any kind of a consistent basis.
I think this is an opportunity tonight.
I think people are going to be expecting them to be a little more conservative with the offensive lineman out.
I want to throw it early and off, and I want to I want to try to throw the ball to get the lead and then do the mic to show, you know, throw to score, run to win, Mike.
Speaker 6So I like that.
Speaker 4But the Giants secondary, they've taken a few injuries over the last few weeks, so they're not at the strength anyway.
Do you foresee that being another reason why you would prefer them to be in there.
Speaker 3I just think they's been a better passing team than running team.
They haven't been able to run the ball really all year.
They had the one game they had great numbers in Tampa, which you know, and I'm not discounting them because they were they were huge plays in the game, but it's skewed a little bit by the explosives that Henderson turned in on the two long touchdown runs.
Otherwise they were really held in check in that game.
Even now, certainly you'd take that if you can get a you know, a fifty yard touchdown run and otherwise average you know, two and a half yards to carry.
It's not ideal, but I'll take it because I made the big play.
It's the banking on the big play in the run game is is kind of a hard way to live.
I however, you know, I've had you know what, ten twelve games now, or I can bank on a productive passing game, So I'm going to bank on one tonight.
Speaker 9Yeah.
Speaker 5No, I like it.
I like it.
Speaker 6Let Drake bake, Yeah, Drake bake.
Speaker 4All right, Well, we're getting some calls.
I want to hear what the people you know what?
Actually, while we wait to get to the calls, because I don't have my mouth right now, I will figure out where it is.
Speaker 6Sorry, Yeah, can you call up from there?
You know?
Speaker 3Can we can we get to Patty?
He's been waiting, patient, Thank you, he's there.
He's been drinking heavily since since Patty, how many deep are you right?
Speaker 6Now?
Tell the truth, I'm zero, but so disappointing.
Speaker 3So disappointing, Patty like some some some nights, Polly.
Speaker 11Like I've I've had my greens today.
Speaker 3I know we'll wait for the post game show when you'll be uh half in the wrap up?
Speaker 6What do you got?
Speaker 11I gotta work tomorrow too, So it sucks, all right, I got three things what I expect.
But before I do, Polly, I gotta give you kudos because you you you're you had it right on Caleb Williams guys playing You know, I didn't wasn't had nothing to do with the crying, but like, I didn't think he's going to be as good as he's been.
But anyway, here's the three things that I expect are going to happen in this game.
And they might be get they might get progressively crazier.
So the first thing is it's primetime.
I'm expecting Stefan Digs to have a big game.
He usually shows out in primetime games.
The second thing, I think, with you heavily on, yeah you will, I think we're gonna be able to run the ball a lot better because I love Jared Wilson, but he is undersized at left guard.
And I think that Ben Brown is bigger, stronger, and I know they didn't run a lot when he was when they played for Carolina.
But the backs, all three backs play, played a decent game.
And the last thing is the coaching matchup.
I mean, I already think Rabel is one of the best coaches in the league already, and against Mike Kaska.
Come on tonight, come on, let's go.
I mean, this is it.
It shouldn't be game.
I think it is going to be a ton of a close game.
But I got them win in twenty seven to seventeen.
That's all I got.
Speaker 4And optimism, Yeah, I think the game is going to do something.
I like it.
Speaker 3Mike had the numbers for the Giants run defense.
It's been terrible toll.
Yeah, and I know technically it's worse than the last time we said they were running against a terrible defense, which was let me see if I can refresh my men.
Oh, last week against Cincinnati's I believe thirty first ranked run defense and they couldn't run, you know, anywhere again.
It's gonna happen.
You know, I'm not going to tell you it will never happen.
I'm just not prepared to predict it will happen until I see it on a more consistent basis.
Speaker 5Yeah, do you think if you put much into the coaching advantage?
It's one of those things.
Speaker 3I mean, I think Rabel has an advantage, but you know, it's not anything I necessarily lose sleepover going into the game.
And matter of fact, I think the unknown of Kafka and Boland sort of mitigates that a little bit like Woton really knows what exactly don't expect?
Speaker 4Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 5We talked about a question Evan asked Brabel about it.
A new defensive coordinator filling in the outside linebackers coach Charlie Bollen.
You know, what does it look like all of a sudden?
I mean, you're so used to kind of like an offensive coordinator taking over a head coach.
You've seen that happen before, but this kind of an instance of what you know, does he like, does there get to be end of game situation or end a half situation where the clock's running and it's all the stuff that you love, Paul of managing the clock and you know and knowing all those things.
How experienced are these you know?
Is this coaching staff on both sides of the ball now ready to handle some of the details.
Yeah, I don't know.
It's just if the opportunity presents itself, it might be a spot that the Patriots could maybe have an advantage.
Speaker 3I thought it was interesting to listen to to Matt Sytek talk about he expects it to be a little bit more aggressive, you know, from an approach standpoint, defensively again, so you don't really know how that manifests itself.
Speaker 6You don't.
Speaker 3You haven't really seen it, so it's hard to prepare for it.
And with Kafka, what's he been there?
This is gonna be his third game in a fourth game maybe, So there's just not a lot of data to fall back on now.
Last week, you know, two trick plays end up being touchdowns, you know, not expecting to run a bunch of trick plays again tonight when you just ran a couple last week.
Speaker 6But can you rule it out now?
Speaker 3So I think the unknown I think Vrabel's a better coach than a guy who's an interim coach.
Coaching is third or fourth game whatever this is for Kafka, But I think it is mitigated somewhat in just that unknown factor.
Speaker 4YEA and that could be good or bad.
We'll see.
All right, let's head to Nebraska, where tay is is our first Nebraska call.
Speaker 12Hi, day, how's it going, guys, just calling in.
I was noticing these past few weeks it seemed like maybe things have been a little slower for us, and I've been noticing just on social media and everything that seems like these guys are fired up and ready for this game.
And that's what I'm hoping is going to happen tonight.
I'm hoping that everybody comes and plays hard and shows out and steps up for all the pieces that we're missing right now.
Thank you, guys, all yeah, yeah, thanks for calling in.
Speaker 3Well, I'll tell you one thing, I hope the team's a little bit more fired up than.
Speaker 4A little tied.
Speaker 6I sounded like it might have been a little under the weather.
Speaker 4Yeah, it could be it too Well.
Speaker 5I get what he's saying, though, and I think Monday night football brings some juice.
And you know, I just I keep flashing back a few weeks ago with the Thursday night game with the energy in the building, and I'm sure it'll be the same tonight, you know, just to get you get you going.
Speaker 6I'm not as confident.
Speaker 4Really, it's been a slow seems like it's.
Speaker 3Been kind of business as usual around here, like you know, like we didn't go four and thirteen the last couple of years, Like this is ho hum.
Speaker 6The giants are here ten and two.
Speaker 3I would like to see what Mike is talking about.
I don't really feel like I found that.
I know a lot of people agree with you, Mike.
And that Thursday night game, I thought it was kind of a whole hum night that night, and I thought the Patriots was sort of in a closer game than expected for most of the night.
And I would have thought tonight would have been, as an example, a really tough ticket, and evidently it wasn't.
Speaker 13No.
Speaker 6I mean maybe you know in the secondary market, but I think no.
Speaker 5I match your feelings about the build up to this week.
But that's why I feel like I'm hoping that Monday night football and the juice that comes with that.
Speaker 4What did I say right before the show started?
I was like, I need some engine.
Oh yeah, we just saw a video of a Robert Craft and Randy Moss walking in.
By the way, yeah he's suiting up today.
Speaker 5The past or not split your defense so many.
Speaker 4All right, let's let's sad to Arizona.
Hopefully the weather is better there, Hi, DJ right better than this?
Dare you warm?
Speaker 9Yeah?
Speaker 4You hot here?
Speaker 13I hope everyone's doing well tonight, Richard.
Speaker 5Oh yeah.
Speaker 4So.
Speaker 13My thing is I think where everyone is like kind of stuck in is the record of the Giants and not the fact that, like y'all know, y'all talk about it all the time, they are close in so many games and just.
Speaker 5Blow it in the fourth.
Speaker 13I feel like if we have that lackluster start that we always have and don't juice it up in the second and third like we always do, and fall off in the fourth, I think that cycle that we've been doing could lead to us losing this game ultimately, because that's been our trend.
First quarter, not so much.
Second and third we bring the juice, and then the fourth we kind of fade away, and I feel even with the Giants, that still could lead us to a lost What do y'all.
Speaker 4Think, fairpoint?
Speaker 3Yeah, that is the pattern.
I would agree with the pattern that they've played much better in the middle of the game than they do at the beginning.
Speaker 5In the end, yeah, that's you got to break some of those trends.
I mean, it's just, you know, Jackson Dart seems to me with those rookies, they don't know what they don't know yet.
And it's even if he throws interception, he's going to come right back and throw it right back down the field again.
And that's what I'm expecting tonight.
Just along those lines, is the pitchers can control the game out of the gate, and I think, I mean, I like what Paul saying.
If you come out and it's just a Drake make clinic down the field then right into the into the end zone, that'd be an outstanding start to just put the giants on their heels and not give them that chance, because if you give them that chance, they're going to start to say, we've been in plenty of these games before.
We have to start finishing, and.
Speaker 4You're boosting their confidence.
Speaker 5What this team needs like if you know, we know what it was like last year, you want to come out of this season feeling like we got a kid who can win us some games.
And you know what a great feather in his cap it would be to come into the Patriots on Monday Night football.
And like I said, it's like what the Giants do to the Patriots.
This is what they do.
They screw and the screw.
That's why stress tonight.
Speaker 4Now we know the true reasons of your stress.
So well, no, let's get some more calls.
They're gonna go to Colorado.
I was so excited to get to over unders.
But let's see what Dan has to say.
Hey, I.
Speaker 14Dan, Hey, guys, so quite frankly, I think not only do we need to win tonight, but we need to win in a convincing, dominating passion day.
What you want about this Giants team being in some of these games.
This is a trash Giants team circling train, and we're a team contending for a top playoff spots.
We need to dominate.
So it's not just a matter of get through this week.
We need to start dominating slop like the Giants tonight.
And I'm expecting us to win a convincing fashion tonight.
Give us at least a twenty point victory is something like thirty to ten.
Anything less, I'll be a little disappointed.
Speaker 4Not gonna lie agree make bad teams look bad.
Speaker 3Yeah, I don't really understand that mentality, really, I mean, I understand why you want that to happen.
But why you'd be disappointed if they win and it doesn't happen.
Yeah, I mean, you've played twelve games this year, eight of them have been decided by one score.
So if what he says happens, you know, is going to happen happens, then that's an outlier.
Speaker 6I don't know.
That doesn't to.
Speaker 3Me mean that you're not a good team and you're not capable of being at the top.
Speaker 6You think the.
Speaker 3Broncos right now are like irritated that they had out hold on and stop a two point conversion, you know, to win the game last night.
I mean, I know that the defense in particular is probably disappointed in the way they played, especially down the stretch, allowing you know, game you know, scores on you know, potentially game winning drives, you know, and the regulation and then in overtime.
But a win's a win, and that's all.
That's all you got to be concerned about.
Speaker 5This time of year.
Speaker 4Everyone's beat up.
Speaker 5Just everybody's beat and get get to get to the by, get a win, get to the by eleven and two.
Everything will be on your in your hands.
Speaker 3If you really look at the games, you know, the ones that got out of hand in the Patriots favor.
You know, it was too Marcus Jones punt returns in one game.
Speaker 6It was.
Speaker 3The game where cam Wood just dropped the ball and Caylevon Chasin picked it up and ran it in to give you the the you know, the the.
Speaker 6Breathing room that you needed.
Speaker 3Uh, you know the Cleveland game, Dylan Gabriel comes out in the second half and throws the ball to the other team splaying, runs it back, and so you know that's if that happens tonight, you're probably gonna win the game going away.
If it doesn't, I wouldn't be surprised if you have a repeat of what you had, like I said, in eight of the other twelve games, where it goes back and forth a little bit, you have the lead most of the time.
The Patriots have had the lead in most of these games for most of the time in the game, and I expect that to be the case tonight.
Speaker 9Yeah.
Speaker 5I'd like to see more takeaways from this defense too.
I mean, the you know, the Marcus Jones one last week was was great, but I mean it's just I'd like to see more plays on the ball, more forced fumbles, you know, a lot of people really look at forced fumbles as a measuring stick for defenses of how aggressive and physical you are, and there's just there hasn't been quite enough of that.
And I think as you get into these last four games going forward, that's that's the place where you got to start making plays in the playoffs.
You got to not turn the ball over and you got to force the ball, you know, force the takeaways on the other side of the ball.
So it's just something something to look for.
Would be great tonight if they could force Jackson Dart into some mistakes.
Speaker 6But check in with my boy, Nate.
Wait, while class is probably over.
Speaker 15Here, you guys, Nate, not much.
I got a couple of keys for us to win this game.
First off, I think we really need to utilize trev On Henderson more.
I know that, like we've used Andre and a lot of situations.
I'm pretty sure we used him for all those downs down at the goal line in Cincinnati where we failed to score.
Speaker 6That's not true, but go ahead, not true.
Now, they used both.
Speaker 3They used all three backs down in by the goal line, all three of them.
Speaker 15In Okay, that's my fault then, But I think I think Traveon Henderson.
Can you know the way he spins out of those tackles and gets get some speed on the outside.
I feel like that could really be a key for us to win this game.
And uh, I feel like we also need to see Christigan Zalez bounce back from uh Cincinnati.
You know, I think he's had somewhat of an off game in Cincinnati, and you know, play players have that.
But this is prime time and I think we should see some good stuff out of some good players that have a good expectations.
Speaker 3I go past again, thank hey, Well, you know, the Henderson thing kind of gets under my skin, Like twenty one touches last week for Henderson and twenty four of the week before, while Stevenson last week.
This is apples to apples, because that's Stevenson didn't play the previous game.
Stevenson had five carries.
Henderson had eight, sorry, six carries.
Henderson at eighteen, So you're talking about three times the amount of carries.
How many more are we supposed to get him?
Like, what's the right number?
The Henderson thing?
Really, I think Henderson is terrific.
I want him to continue to get to be a part of the offense.
I just don't know why every time it doesn't work when he gets the ball, it's the it's the coach's fault for not using him, right, because that seems like it's the narrative that's developed is every time Stevenson has stopped, it's because he's not being utilized properly.
Yeah, anyway, that's that's a me issue, not a you issue.
Speaker 6I will definitely take a blame on that.
Speaker 5I would say to the Gonzales, like, I'd like a quiet night from him.
I'd like to like because it's one Dale Robinson, it's you know, him and Theo Johnson are going to be the engine tonight.
So I'd like to just not see Christian Ganzalez like.
Speaker 6He's just he's covering with Isaiah Hodgins.
Speaker 5Isaiah Hodginson, that's going to be a guy that.
Speaker 6He's going to be seeing, like, you know, we don't we don't see.
Speaker 3I think it's got to be a Marcus Mark Jones, right, you know there's a smaller, you know, you know, shifty interior slot guy.
Speaker 6I would think that Marcus Jones sees a lot of him.
But yeah, I don't know.
Yeah, stranger things have happened.
Speaker 4We shall see all right, Before we wrap this up, we have to get to over it.
Unders and over unders.
They're brought to you by errands this winter.
Let the King of Snow help you clear your driveway so you have more time to support your team.
Aarons the official snowblower of the New England Patriots.
You can visit them at www dot a r i e n s dot com to find your errands.
Paul, how did we do last week on this so?
Oh say this knowing?
Speaker 3Last week Kwannie again five and one, Mike four and two and once again loser boy one in five season standings Kwannie forty seven and twenty five, Mike forty five and twenty seven.
That's all you really need to know about Paul thirty three and thirty nine loser.
Speaker 4We'll just blur him out.
Eventually the graphic will eventually start to fade.
All right, Well, maybe this week you'll do a little better.
Speaker 6Maybe.
Speaker 4And that being said, we're gonna start with maybe anything is possible Drake May.
We're gonna start with his passing yards right now at two hundred and forty six and a half.
Speaker 5Oh boy, you know I'd love to say Oh, they're gonna run the ball.
They don't need Drake to throw it.
But I'm gonna lean towards Paul's thing that they are gonna throw it and Drake's gonna have some success against the secondary.
I'm gonna go over.
Speaker 3Please, yeah, really, Age, you guys probably already figured out mine.
Speaker 6I'm gonna take the over for the exact reason Mike just said.
Speaker 5I'm gonna shred this.
Speaker 4I overestimated last week with the passing yards I think, but I'm gonna go with let's go with the under on this one.
Just you know what, I don't know why.
We'll see Travon Anderson speaking of his rushing yards sixty five and a half.
Will he be able to get some more yardage today?
I say, yes, all right, I'll go over on that one.
Yeah, just switching up everything we said.
Speaker 3I'm gonna take the under on that because I think this is going to be more of a passing game.
That would be smart, and I think he'll get over that number from scrimmage, but just not rushing.
I like that, You're right, rushing yards, that's I think I heard Danie Rolofsky say that today too, but I I agreed with it before he even said he stole it from me.
Speaker 4He took he went his brain.
All right, I'm under under.
Next up Stefan Diggs receiving yards of course if we're in the air.
Speaker 3That was like, no, this is when I'm channeling my inner Patty, and I agree with him for the same exact reason.
He gets juiced up for these primetime games.
I had the big one, you know against Buffalo Monday night game.
I'm gonna take the over.
It's been a little quiet lately.
Speaker 5Yeah, I'm with you.
I'm on the overt.
Speaker 4I'm taking over as well.
Speaker 5Diggs night.
Speaker 4It all digs all the time.
Yeah, all right, andres poor Gallice his kicking points seven and a half.
This one to me, we had a lot of work week, you know what.
Speaker 5I'm going to go under on that one.
Yeah, I think they score in the red zone.
Speaker 4Wow, that's a lot of faith.
Hmmm.
I'm thinking about last week now.
I think I'm going to go over on this one.
Speaker 3Yeah, I'm taking the over also.
Yeah, I mean that's a tough one, tough one.
Speaker 4Yeah, you have some rationale behind your podcast.
And then we have total New England touchdowns.
That's at three and a half.
I am going to take the over on that because they better.
Speaker 6I'm going to take the under under his logic.
Yeah, this is good number.
Speaker 4Yeah, three and a half, I'm.
Speaker 5Gonna go over.
I'm gonna get crazy, a little weird.
Speaker 4We'll see that being said.
Final score total score actually forty six and a half.
We gotta do some math.
Speaker 3Yeah, I take the over on the on the total, I like some points tonight.
Speaker 6One points yep.
Speaker 4I think I'm going to do the under under, even though I do want points.
But I don't know this this Giants team is.
Speaker 5Just I'm going over.
I don't know if all my picks makes sense if you line them all up the same.
Speaker 4I was like, I don't know if it actually.
Speaker 5This game is going to look like agree, but I'm I'm going.
Speaker 3To go over on You're very consistent.
You think more than you think at least four touchdowns, but that's twenty eight.
Speaker 5Yeah.
Speaker 4Yeah, I'm gonna go and you're.
Speaker 6Going with the over like that's consistent?
It was under.
Those are all extra points.
Speaker 5On all right, don't judge my final score.
Speaker 4The Voice of Reason.
Okay, it's time for the Sunday one pack.
Speaker 6No time.
I wasn't gonna play the over for the one pack.
Speaker 5Please just a Sunday one pack.
Speaker 4It's just a one We won't play the open for it.
Speaker 6Don't get it mixed jazz.
It's just a one pack.
Speaker 4By the way, the Sunday one pack is brought to you by the Massachusetts to fifty campaign, commemorating a history of possibility.
But in your revolutionary weekend at Massachusetts two fifty dot org.
And this is our six pack last week.
Interesting numbers this one.
Speaker 3Yeah, Paul wins the week at three and three, Kwanty two and four, Mike one and five, season Kwannye wins that one to thirty six and thirty two Mike twenty nine and thirty nine, Paul twenty eight.
Speaker 5A little bit of a battle at the back.
Speaker 6I can't can't, I can't make up any ground this week.
Speaker 4This is the one.
We have one shot at this one, one opportunity.
That being said, two and ten New York Giants add the ten and too New England Patriots, New England seven and a half on the spread for this one.
Speaker 5Yeah, I'm gonna go I went over.
I think this one's a little back and forth.
I'm gonna say I'm gonna take the Giants with the points, though I think it is closer than seven and a half.
I can't, I can't pick up a game, but I'll take the Patriots to win.
Thirty one twenty eight.
Speaker 4Thirty eight twenty eight.
Have you guys gotten your score prediction right?
Speaker 9Yet?
Speaker 5Every time?
Speaker 4Every time.
Speaker 6I think this game is going to be a little easier than Mike.
Speaker 3I think it will be back and forth for a while until maybe a key fourth quarter turnover by Jackson Dart allows the Patriots to get some separation.
Speaker 6Thirty three to twenty New England.
Speaker 4I like a key turnover.
Nice.
Nice.
I'm going to take New England with this red because I according to my over unders and again just not having to make it lineith.
Yeah, in this Giants offense, I think, yeah, dark will run them in.
But yeah, man, I'm taking the Patriots on this one.
Speaker 5So first time Patriots and giantson met here on Monday night football.
Yeah, should shout out the throwbacks.
Very nice, Paul, But they're still pretty nice, pretty nice.
Speaker 4I like them.
Speaker 3They're fine, perfectly adequate in their atiquosity.
Speaker 4Patriotic American Red, White, and blue.
Speaker 3Both teams just reminds me in the mid eighties, and that's just not a time that brings back a lot of fun memories.
Speaker 5Speaking of the is check out the new nineteen eighty five podcast.
Speaker 7Now on the trip down Memory Lane, No but choking aside.
Actually, check at our first episode of the nineteen eighty five podcast.
A lot of hard work myself, mat Morell Alex back there.
Speaker 5So, yeah, if you remember that season and want to remember some of the how the team came together, how it all went down, Paul's right, it was pretty bleak in the mid eighties except for me, the Andre Tippett and and everything like that, right.
Speaker 3You know what, not that we need to barg this down when we got five minutes left.
But that's my biggest problem with that era is it wasn't a team that was devoid of talent.
You know, from seventy six to eighty eight, call it, they had pretty good talent and but for a couple of seasons here there, they really did failed to live up to it.
Speaker 6That's what.
Speaker 3Yeah, you know, seventy six, seventy eight, eighty five, eighty six, you know, those are the four playoff teams in that era.
They they would playoff caliber, and I think eighty two they.
Speaker 6Also made it in the strike season.
Speaker 3Yeah, they would playoff worthy virtually throughout that time, and they didn't make it enough.
Speaker 6That's kind of my memory of those teams.
Speaker 5Very right, very right, and a lot of underrated players on that on that team, I mean the secondary and even players like you know, Mike Haynes.
You had to get a Hall of Famer here the left and you know, won a Super Bowl elsewhere.
A lot a lot of those players, but enough of a corps remained from that seventies group, and Paul's right started in the early eighties, adding a lot of talent like Andre Tippett, who was just an absolute machine there off the edge, kind of like we're gonna see the night these giant s edge defenders.
Speaker 4No what I'm excited about this podcast too.
You said you pulled some old sound and a lot of research went into it, so that could be something you guys listened to or watching out morning.
Speaker 5Lots of art, but just the first one out, but every Mondy I think will be a new one coming out in the first ones out, which really covers the seventies and these teams that fell short.
Like Paul said, and you know seventy six, a record setting ground game in seventy eight that lasted all the way till twenty nineteen when Baltimore won it.
So they really did have some talent, but they just always fell short until that until that eighty five season they made it to the Super Ball and they fell short again, but just to get there, they were they were a special team.
Speaker 4A couple more on the line or right before tip off, Ethan, how are you feeling in Iowa right now?
Ethan?
Are you with us?
Ethan fell asleep?
I hope he doesn't miss the game?
All right?
Andy?
And Vermont you're a final caller, Andy, Andy, what are we doing?
Speaker 3This is what happens when I people on the line and then they're not ready to go.
Speaker 4You lost your privileged people.
Speaker 3This could be an interesting game tonight because of the way the Giants have played.
If they can continue to play the style that they've generally played with Dart at quarterback and in the last two weeks with Winston at quarterback, I think it could be an interesting game tonight.
Speaker 6You know, given the Patriots uh.
Speaker 3Struggles the last couple of weeks stopping the run that allows the game to get shortened again.
Speaker 6I think to to Pittsburgh and Chicago.
Speaker 3They're not going to score a lot of points doing it that way, but they can stay in the game doing it that way if they can run effectively and shorten the game a little bit, make it a low possession game.
Speaker 6Yeah, I think that's how you stay in it.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 3I can't imagine the Giants are going to be in the thirties tonight, but if they can get to to the to the twenties, yeah, I think you have a chance to win.
Speaker 4Yeah, we want good football at the end of the day, where we also want to Patriots wins.
Give him something.
Speaker 5We'll come in here and say, Tyrone Tracy's running all over the defense that you know that that's the you know, the elements for failure and you know again THEO Johnson, I just think Patriots defense has struggled inside the red zone.
I loved how we teed it up for our guests saying Jackson Dart has a special fondness for him and is just ready to throw the ball to him, you know, whether he's covered.
Speaker 3And he had a bold prediction for you tonight, Giants do not score in their first drive.
Speaker 5Whoa well, well, no quick, Paul.
Speaker 3Interesting about half from Giants do not score in their first drive.
Patriots defense comes up with a stop.
Speaker 4That would be good.
We would like to see that.
Speaker 6But then again, Jarre, I say you three and oh ooh, spicy.
Speaker 5You declare that would be a nice start though, right.
Speaker 4Well, we'll give you guys that would be really nice.
Get some snacks, go put the game on.
Come back here after the game to see what we have to say.
