Episode Transcript

Welcome to the Alaska Uncovered Podcast with me, your host, Jennie Thwing Flaming, my occasional co-host and full-time husband, Jay, and I bring you accurate, helpful, and entertaining information about Alaska Travel and life in Alaska.

Hi everyone, it's Jennie.

Here we go with our last discount episode in this mini series. This is some great stuff in this one. This is the longest one, so hang with me here while we go through all these wonderful things. So this is gonna cover Anchorage, south Central Alaska, um, up to Denali National Park and Wrangle St. Elias National Park.

So here we go. Starting in Anchorage with a stay at salted roots base camp. So this is a fairly new hotel. This is a great place for people who don't like anonymous hotels and like to find those locally owned hotels that are really hard to find. Um, salted roots base camp in Anchorage is awesome for that.

And I have a 10% discount code with you. For you with the Code Podcast, and kellyann who owns Salted Roots is coming on the podcast in February, so you'll get to learn more about it then. But meanwhile, you can take advantage of the coupon code. You could take advantage of the code. Another thing I wanted to mention, I don't have a discount for this, but the Copper Whale Inn is another wonderful, um, locally owned hotel in, um, in Anchorage.

Alright, let's stay in Anchorage here for a few minutes for the next few. So the next one is Rusts Flying Service. I talked about my experience flying with rusts out to bear viewing in Lake Clark National Park in October of 2024.

I did the trip in September and the podcast was in October. Um, I've talked about them lots of times and how wonderful they are, but you can save 10% with the code Alaska uncovered, and you can also use that same code for K two aviation and tell ket now, we'll come back to that in a minute. So next one for Anchorage is Alaskan Sites and Bites, which is a food tour of Anchorage with brothers Dan and Chris who will take you around and show you the best food and all that fun local stuff in Anchorage.

You can save 10% with the code AK Uncovered and Dion was on the podcast in June of 2024 and talked about. Food in Anchorage and that is a very popular episode of the podcast. One of the top ones. Alright, next up we've got great Land adventures. They operate in both Anchorage and Fairbanks, actually. Um, they're Matt Nuka Glacier Tour, which we talked about in episode 61 in April, 2024.

That one is from Anchorage and then they offer Northern Lights tours in both Anchorage and Fairbanks. We talked with Steve about Northern Lights myths in episode 1 39 in September of 2025. Alright, and with great land, you can save 10% with the code. Alaska uncovered 10. So Alaska uncovered 10, that is a longer one. All right. Um, let's move on. From Anchorage down to Seward and down in Seward, we've got Sunny Cove kayaking.

Uh, Stephanie from Sunny Cove has been on the podcast a couple times. Most recently in February, 2025. We talked about kayaking and other fun things in Seward. Uh, a couple of her guides, Danny and Andrew, who also have a podcast called, um, the Last Frontier Podcast. They came on in July, 2024. So we have learned a lot about Seward here, which is amazing.

So you can save 5% with Sunny Cove. There's not a code, but you do need to use the link in the show notes because the code is embedded. In the link. So, um, you'll need to do that for Sunny. Cove in Seward. Alright, let's go over to Kenai, which or Soldotna area, which is sort of near Seward on the Kenai Peninsula.

So Dallas Voss, um, has an awesome, uh. Fishing, uh, company. She takes people out fishing for, uh, various rivers, various types of salmon, uh, other different times of the year. So, um, she's wonderful. She came on in May 20, 24 and she's coming back, um, this spring to talk about some updates to phishing on the Kenai and Dallas is awesome.

So if you want to save. Money phishing with Dallas, which you do want to just call her at (907) 690-6477 and you'll save 10% and the code is Kenai a KP. But also you can just tell her you heard about her on the podcast 'cause you're gonna be talking to her, which is. Okay. Um, let's go over to both Girdwood and Valdez.

So our next one is Alpine Air, which is a helicopter company. And Alpine Air takes people on all kinds of wonderful helicopter adventures in both Valdez and Girdwood. And so if you wanna see those blue pools on a glacier, you want to go dog sledding in the summer. You wanna get without pioneer. Um, so yeah, don't miss it.

It's pretty awesome. So you can save 10% on helicopters, which is pretty cool with the code podcast. 10. Alright. Uh, since we're half in Valdez for that one, we'll stick with that for Stan Stevens. Oh, by the way, Alpine Air is coming onto the podcast in January, so you'll get to know more about it then.

Alright. In July of 2028, um, Colleen and Faith from Valez came on and talked about. How awesome Valdez is basically, and it is one of my favorite places in Alaska. So if you want to do a Stan Stevens Glacier and Wildlife Cruise from Valdez, you can save 10% on that with the code AK uncovered. All right, let's move up from Valdez to McCarthy, which is in Wrangle St.

Elias National Park. And that is a, a wonderful park to check out, lots of epic wilderness. Um, and if you wanna guide for that, Kennecott Wilderness Guides offers, um, 5% off of any of their guided tours with the code uncovered. And in May of 2024. Uh, episode 66, Avery, who's a guide with them and was actually my guide when I did the hiking, the Root Glacier tour that they offer.

Um, she came on and talked about growing up in McCarthy and her advice for visitors, so. That was really awesome. Alright, let's start making our way kind of west and north now. So we'll head back to Anchorage and then we're going up towards, uh, Palmer and Denali. And we've got just a few left. So when you are on your way up there, or if you're just in the Anchorage area.

Blue Water Base Camp. They've been on the podcast, uh, in July of 2024. Absolutely wonderful property. Russ and Teal, um, started. Well, they not only started, they built this business. They literally built the cabins. Uh, it's absolutely beautiful. It's a really wonderful place. Uh, you don't need a code. You can save 5% there.

Uh, by following the link in the show notes, it's also one where the code is embedded in the link. So I'll have to go that way. Um, this is such a great place to stay that when Jay and I do our guided tour in June, authentic Alaska, one of the places we're staying is Blue Water Base Camp. So it's a pretty special place.

Because I'm staying there too. Okay. Um, moving up to Palmer, which is quite close to Bluewater Base Camp, which is, uh, near Eluana Lake. So we're moving up to Palmer and, uh, Kere came onto the pod in October, 2024. She is owns a small hiking guide company. They also do farm tours in Palmer, rebel Treks and tours.

And she talked about Palmer and life in Palmer. And this is another thing that we're doing on our group tour in June, which will be fun. So, uh, yeah, so you can save, you can save 10% on Revel Tre and Tours with the code Palmer uncovered. All right, couple more. So, heading up to tna, I mentioned K two Aviation briefly.

Um, they do flight scene tours over Denali National Park. They do landings on the glacier, one of the glaciers inside Denali National Park. Now, this is a fixed wing plane, so it's a little different from a helicopter. It's awesome. I've done this to her. Several times they've been on the podcast February, 2024 and again in fall 2024.

Just a wonderful tour and in fact, so awesome that we are doing it on our small group tour as well. So you save 10% with the code Alaska uncovered. And you may remember if you've listened for a while, Dora uh, Dora from tna, Aurora Dora. She was on the podcast in May of 2025 and she told her story of immigrating to Alaska from Brazil from turning her photography skills towards the night sky.

And you do not wanna miss going into her gallery. If you're in Taina, um, it's just such a beautiful immersive little cabin experience with Northern Lights all around you. And if you are in there and you wanna buy a metal print, she will give you 10% off, but you have to be there in person and just tell her that, uh, you heard about her on the podcast or that I sent you.

All right. Last, but certainly not least, Denali National Park Hiking. So. If you are looking for an affordable, unforgettable tour in Denali, or you want to go for a hike and you don't wanna figure out where to go or worry about bear safety. Or you just wanna have an awesome guide, tell you all about the plants and animals and everything of Denali, okay?

Don't miss Northern Epics. And they, uh, Trinidad, who's one of the owners of the company, will be on the podcast in May, but. I don't want you to wait for that to, to book with him. Um, you can save 10% with the code top left. And again, the name of the company is Northern Epics. Um, and I'll tell you similar to Alpine Air, you know, these are tours that a lot of my guests on tour have booked and absolutely rave about.

People absolutely love Northern Apex, so, um, and helicopters too. Anyway, so that brings us to the end of our discounts and the end of this, uh, well not quite the end of the miniseries. That's tomorrow. So tomorrow will be our last daily episode this week. And then on January 6th, we will resume weekly episodes.

I'll talk to you tomorrow.  📍 Bye for now.
