12-30-25 Hour 3 - Awaiting Jokic MRI results/Good Jokic injury news/Nuggets need to reinvent themselves

Episode Transcript

Speaker 1

This is Motioner, Lombardy and Cain on demand.

Speaker 2

Listen live every weekday morning from seven to ten on Altitude Sports Radio not E two five and on the Altitude Sports Radio app.

Speaker 3

All I know is it's just a left and knee injury.

He used to go through the whole process of what it is.

Watching it at halftime, it looked like his feet got tangled up with a teammate, and obviously immediately he knew something was wrong.

Speaker 1

This is part of the NBA.

Speaker 3

Anybody that gets hurt in this game, it's kind of gut wrenching, especially somebody as special as he is.

We'll find out more tomorrow and we'll move on as a team.

Speaker 1

Obviously.

Speaker 3

Right now, I'm more concerned just about him as a person, you know, and the disappointment of going through something like that.

So it's unfortunate, hoping for the best, just like we did with Cam and the other starters that we've lost.

So you just have to stay with it as a team and as a group.

And honestly, you have to stay with it as a team and a group because that's how you best support your teammates that are out.

Speaker 2

Steven Adelman after the game still awaiting the results of this MRI from Jokic that happened this morning.

The question becomes if Jokic, and again I'm gonna put this in two different ways.

I'm gonna talk about if Yokic missus short term, and you define what short term is.

We know it's gonna be a while, but you know, a month, two months, whatever the number is going to be.

I can only discuss the rest of the Nuggets season in that context because if it is a long term injury, there is nothing to discuss.

Speaker 4

It's the season's over.

Speaker 2

You aren't going to be even if you make the playoffs, you aren't going anywhere like It's just it's it's sort of a a what feels like pointless exercise.

Speaker 5

Uh.

Speaker 2

But if he is gone in the short term, then it's about what do you do in the meantime, because you're gonna have to change the way that you play, and you're gonna have to change the way that you run your offense.

You're gonna have to change the way that you play clutch offense late, and you're gonna have to change the way that you play defensively.

Speaker 4

You're everything has to change, and.

Speaker 2

A lot of that load is going to be shouldered by Jamal Murray, who is currently the only starter left in the lineup.

Speaker 1

Right now, before we speculate on what Liza ahead, can I just reinforce what we know.

Yes, here's what we know, and I want to stress this, this is very important.

What we know right now and what we the conjecture reform means absolutely nothing until the MRI results are in.

From the people I've spoken to, from what I've gathered, the hope and the early indication is Nikola Jokich may have avoided a major knee injury based on the evaluation after the game last night.

That's the hope.

That hope is meaningless once you go to MRI.

That's all that matters.

You can feel great, it can look fine, but the MRI could reveal something entirely different.

So the hope going into that MRI today is a positive one.

We shall see what the MRI confirms as soon as we get that information.

That's all we know.

But whatever report you hear about, whatever you know, whatever you hear today, great, awesome.

It doesn't mean a damn thing until the imaging returns.

Speaker 4

Yeah, is that once as I can be here, Yes, I mean that's just that's it.

Speaker 2

It's you have initial what feels like positive I'll call it vibes coming away from that initial test last night.

But you don't know until you get in that tube.

Speaker 1

And you know why, because we've gotten so many different cases of oh, man, it's fine, and then all of a sudden, wait, it's not.

Yeah, and then the opposite holds true.

Oh my god, that looks terrible.

Wait, he's fine.

Works both ways.

Speaker 4

There's a.

Speaker 2

There's a real feeling surrounding yokid and I think this is what hit me, and it hit a lot of people last night.

Speaker 4

You weren't used to seeing him.

Speaker 2

Go to the floor and stay on the floor and then when he gets back up have a hard time shaking that thing off.

I mean, he had to be helped on the way to the locker room.

And so when you see it, I'm trying to make a comparison.

I kind of go to this one a lot, but it is if you ever see your father panicked, it immediately makes you, you know, like you're supposed to be the guy that's calm, and when you are nervous about something, everybody.

Speaker 4

Is kind of like on edge.

And when I see him go to the floor.

I'm like, uh, if he's not getting back up immediately, we got a real problem here.

Speaker 1

The image that is ingrained in my brain last night is him shaking his left foot.

Speaker 4

Yeah, as he's you.

Speaker 1

Know, he's recoiled there, he's in a fetal position basically, and he's shakes in his left foot, and I'm like, what is going on?

And then as he as he makes his way to the locker room, he's hobbling, hobbling.

Then he has to grab the staircase or whatever that is the stands he has to grab it to keep himself up.

I you know, maybe that's just a tense pain that comes from it.

I'm a whole I'm sure was painful.

Speaker 2

And also I don't I've never had my I've never hyper extended my leg before, but it's got to be freaky when your leg bends the right.

Speaker 6

Sure.

Speaker 1

Have you guys ever had I knock on wood?

I've avoided.

I've never had a real major knee injury.

That ankle injuries, but never a knee injury.

But I'm I'm told that sometimes, you know, especially with those ligaments, it feels fine, it just feels loose.

It doesn't hurt, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 7

Yeah, I've never No, I've never had a ligament type of injury like that.

That obviously a big tendon injury, right, everybody knows about that.

But I've never had a knee like that.

I'm sure it's probably scary for him too.

I'm betting in his life he's never felt the way he felt when he hit the floor.

Speaker 6

I'm sure it's scary to him now.

Speaker 7

Again, I'm just hoping that everything is all well and good, but it's gotta be painful as well.

So if he needs a little help, okay, fine, But I just have never seen him down like that.

I've never seen him grab a part this guy because this guy, to me, boys, he eats pain.

You know, if he got pain, he just eats it, eats it, eats it, puts it somewhere right down here next to Vicxloin's that kind of thing.

And then to see him do that, it's he seemed superhuman and now he seems human.

Speaker 1

Yeah, okay.

So on the text line, this is from Matt.

When I tore my ACL, I had no idea it happened, didn't believe there was any chance it was torn.

I had a second of pain and that's it.

Then it felt loose than the Lochman test.

By the dock immediately told me it was completely torn.

And then the am I confirmed it.

I can tell you the Lockman test they did last night on the Kolokuch was a positive one based on the Lockman test.

And the Lockman test is what you see those doctors do and they're feeling the knee joint and doing all that test.

But just because the Lockman test feels good by touch doesn't mean the MRI won't reveal something different.

That's why I'm trying to be extra cautious about this.

Speaker 4

Well again, we're we're awaiting whatever the results of that are going to be.

Speaker 7

What what's the story with your sources?

Are they close to the situation right now?

Will they be?

What's going on here?

Speaker 1

Just waiting?

Speaker 2

Just overall, by the way, I mean this is this is obviously the biggest and by comparison, the only thing that is really on people's minds when it comes to this basketball team and injuries.

Speaker 4

This is an insane run of bad luck.

Speaker 1

Going to bring that up, I mean, I want you to think about something.

I want you to think in nug Life.

We talked about nug Life for a lot of years on the show.

Before the Nuggets broke through in twenty twenty three, nug Life was front and center on this show.

In fact, I I was probably the pall bearer night nug Life after went to death they won a championship.

We put nug Life to rest right.

Speaker 4

Well, now it's back.

Speaker 1

Yeah, because if I told you that the Nuggets lose one starter for an extended period over twenty two games now to an ankle injury, another starter twice to a hamstring injury, a third starter to what looked like a horrible knee injury but now who knows how long he'll miss, and then a fourth starter a week later to a similar knee injury, all before the first of the year.

Four starters before the first of the year.

I've never seen anything like it, have you, No as anyone's.

It reminds me when did the Avs go through that that ridiculous run where everybody got hurt?

Speaker 7

Well, they started the season last year, were like five guys out.

Yeah, I mean, you know, in an out extended period of time.

Speaker 2

You know, one other thing knocking on my wood here, boys, one other thing that sort of hit me as a similarity.

They said, much like the Jamal injury.

When that happened, it was at a nothing part of the game.

I think the I mean, the Nuggers were getting smoked at that time, right, it was a few minutes left, and it's just like, why did it have to happen?

Then you know it's twelve seconds left before the half or whatever that number was.

You're just trying to get to the locker room and then that weird stuff happens.

But on top of that, it's the timing of where the team is at from a roster construction standpoint.

Remember when Jamal's injury happened, that was a couple of weeks after the ag trade and we're like, oh my god, this team could win a champion sure, and it derailed all of that everything a year and a half, all two years years yep.

And then he came back healthy and they won and they were like, aha, see, I told you it just took a couple of years.

This offseason it felt that way to me, like with all the acquisitions they made and they get you know, Tim Hardaway junior, and they bring back Bruce and they get Valanciunas, and it's like, dude, this is a championship team.

And then the Jokic thing happens, which is just it was unimaginable because we've.

Speaker 4

Never seen him hurt before.

Speaker 2

Again, the stat that we brought up earlier, not stat, but I guess factoid tidbit.

It's from Harrison Wind.

Jokic missed seven straight games with an ankle sprain in twenty seventeen.

He hasn't missed more than five games in a row since, and the fewest games he's played in a season is sixty nine.

Speaker 4

He's always there, always nice, and so.

Speaker 2

When you see it's not just that he's hurt, it's played hurt.

He's set out games with hamstrings or ankles or wrists or elbows or whatever.

He hasn't missed an extended stretch.

He's not been absent from the lineup for like a month at a time.

Speaker 1

He never feared not having him for the stretch.

Right, And let me let me read this again, because apparently I'm a poor communicator this morning, and I apologize, I really do.

According to the text line ninety eight nine nine, Lombardy just said Lockman test was positive when he meant negative, what I mean positive?

And the results were optimistic.

Let me use that word.

Yes, the result initial results.

Speaker 6

Will I know what you meant?

Speaker 1

Okay, I'm sorry if it confused some folks.

At the end of the day, this is all just talk because the machine will tell you what it is.

The machine will reveal the injury.

Speaker 2

We've always said, yeah, it will.

We've always said Brett this that Nikola Jokicic.

Speaker 7

Because of the style of game he plays, it's not conducive to massive injury.

Speaker 6

Blown this torn that rip.

Speaker 7

This right, Yeah, I mean he's gonna get banged around on the paint and that you know, he's gonna he's gonna jam wrists and elbows and get cut and everything else.

But he can play till he's forty if he wants.

Hell, he can probably play till these ff of you.

With the style he plays, he can play for a long long time.

So you don't expect this kind of thing to happen, especially on such a freak and seemingly innocent.

Speaker 1

I'm glad you brought up that that freak play because I'm reading these texts and this is not the first one.

I'm sorry if I'm gonna pick on you.

But You're not the first person to bring this up, but I'm gonna pick on you.

Quote.

Should the Nuggets consider dropping Spencer Jones regardless of how he's been playing?

Oh, for the love God, are you people?

Are you?

I almost cursed?

Are you?

I had to explained this to my wife last night when I got home.

She goes, why did's answer?

Johnes step on his foot he's playing basketball.

Yeah, it was the most unintentional play of all time.

Speaker 4

By the way, are you people crazy?

Speaker 2

I don't know if this is coming from the same thing that you heard Vic, but that uh Meridian Sports it's in Serbia.

They said it was encouraging that he first indications or that it's just a hyper extension, no serious damage, that sort of thing.

Speaker 6

But you know what, they could be listening to us getting their information.

Speaker 2

Well, I mean they could be because Vic came on first this morning.

Speaker 6

The initial the initial thoughts are encouraging.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I suppose you can write this down, help record this.

This is why they say it's always so dangerous to speculate on medical issues, because at the end of the day, Hell, I've gone through, as you guys know, my own health issues, and you can think one thing and then you go through a test and it's completely different.

Yeah, it's completely different.

Well you can you know, one test will say all right and the next test will say oh.

Speaker 4

No, Right.

Speaker 2

We have another key word coming your way in just a couple of minutes.

Again awaiting the update here from the Jokic.

Speaker 4

MRI.

Speaker 2

Also, the good news from yesterday is that Jim Harbaugh has said no Herbert and anybody with bangs and bruises on our team is not going to play.

Speaker 4

So we'll get to that in just a second.

Stick around your.

Speaker 2

Final key word as it is an ass ticket Tuesday, a pair of tickets to the Abs and the Blues tomorrow New Year's Eve game, which is always fun.

Speaker 4

Most got the fireworks going on indoors there.

Speaker 2

Yeppycroft has a blow towards that he's gonna.

Speaker 6

Gonna set off.

Speaker 4

He's gonna set one off.

Yeah.

Speaker 2

Keyword for this hour delicious is is midnight.

So text midnight in your first and last game, first and last name to three oh three, five oh four oh nine two five.

Purchase the Cup Classic ticket package to get a Peter Forsburg bobblehead at coavs dot com.

Slash Forsburg.

The Cup Classic is presented by key Bank and Apstiket.

Tuesdays are always powered by Matthew's Fine Watches.

But your keyword for this hour and final keyword before announce the winner at the end of the show midnight, and your first and last name the three oh three five four nine two five.

Speaker 1

Almost tomorrow night.

I was gonna wear a tuxedo for the Nuggets broadcast against Toronto.

But if I don't get the news I aspire to get here, I might just wear a black suit.

Speaker 7

Uh, that's probably appropriate, Keith for a NYE.

So I have two tuxedos jackets essentially, all right, so ever, your key for and eye alternate.

He he doesn't have one, so he wears one, I wear the other and then we flip flop.

That's what we'll probably do again tomorrow night.

Speaker 8

So guys are the same size, Yeah, forty two regular, slim fit, slim fit, Yeah, slim fit.

Speaker 1

What I'm very important?

Speaker 6

What is that?

What is that?

What does that surprise you?

I don't like your out of here.

Speaker 1

He fits in my jacket, so he's not lying all.

But my old jackets, my old jackets are huge on me.

But they fit you snugged.

Speaker 2

It's just I'm trying to figure out height and how that had the sleeves and how everything fits.

Speaker 6

I guess we're just proportionally the same.

Speaker 9

No, I've got a big upper body, big.

Speaker 6

Hel relative relatively speaking.

Speaker 1

Are you shoeing up next next to next to mo?

Speaker 2

Hey?

Speaker 4

Uh?

Speaker 2

I just would have passed something along to you I saw from Schefter.

Speaker 4

By the way.

Speaker 2

Uh if you miss Schefter, Uh missed him with us yesterday.

Speaker 4

It's on every Monday at night.

Speaker 6

How long is it going to take you to get back in the flow.

Speaker 2

All conversation with Schefter brought to you by Johnson Autoplase gets selection service and incredible savings and Ramjeep, Chevy, Buick and GMC all on one location experienced the power of the closet Johnson Autoplasive.

Speaker 4

It's gonna take me a minute.

Oh, just give me a minute.

Speaker 6

Hey, here's what I saw.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

The current draft order heading into the final week of the NFL season.

The Raiders get the first pick as right now, Giants, second, Jets, third, Titans four, Cardinals five.

Speaker 4

No surprises yet, right kind of.

Speaker 2

Teams that we expected to distink Commander six, Oh Boy Brown seven Saints eight.

Speaker 6

Don't say Kansas City at nine.

Speaker 4

The Kansas City Chiefs currently have the ninth overall draft.

Speaker 6

Selection, Mama Mia, no please, and.

Speaker 4

The Cincinnati Bengals currently have ten.

Nine in ten.

Speaker 7

I'm not as worried about the Bengals.

Obviously we'll go defense since they'll go the defensive side.

Speaker 1

But you know, but the NFL is not like other sports.

You can make do hell the look what the Broncos have done.

They've eaten so much dead cap space.

They haven't had shiny top five picks.

They've made do and here they are number one team in the AFC.

If you draft well later in rounds, it's fine, but it's no, you're.

Speaker 4

Right about that.

I'll tell you this.

It's a lot easier to draft well early in the first round.

Speaker 7

Yeah, it's it's a lot of us to draft, but it's also I mean, it's also huge mistakes.

Speaker 6

You're right early.

But remember the last time the Broncos had a top ten pick, who'd they take?

Speaker 1

Top ten pick?

Patrick's ertin Yeah, where'd he GOA?

Where did he go?

Speaker 6

Where did he go?

Overall?

Speaker 4

He was Yeah?

Speaker 6

Can you imagine the Chiefs setting a guy like that to their lineup.

Speaker 1

Come on, man, But for every Patrick Artan, there's a guy that stumbles.

Speaker 6

Who are the who are the guys?

Speaker 1

Remember he wasn't the first dB taken.

Speaker 2

J C.

Speaker 1

Horn was taken before him.

Speaker 7

Craziness.

Yeah, you're right about that.

I mean, I look back to Bradley Chubb at five.

Speaker 2

Overall, good player has been good.

People say it about Chubb, good player number five.

Speaker 7

Overall you're expecting star.

Bradley Chubb has never been a star in this.

Speaker 1

I'm telling you.

The good teams, the perennial teams.

They're the teams that their third, fourth, fifth, the third fourth, fifth rounders are shining and playing great ball.

Sure, those are the teams not necessarily first rounders all the time, later round picks.

Speaker 6

I agree.

Yeah, I mean, if you if you pick, if you find depth and by the way, it's in.

Speaker 1

According to Shams, say it again, Yes, say it again, Chams Sharania just released it.

Nicoliokich has been diagnosed with a hyper extension in his left nee.

Will miss, will miss at least four weeks.

Immense sigh of relief, as test showed the three time MVP's knees ligaments are intact.

So what we said this morning on the show.

Proved to be true what we said this morning.

The tests done by the staff after the game indicated no major structural damage.

None of that flies until you get the MRI to prove it.

The amurai just proved it.

He's gonna be fine, relatively speaking, four weeks as opposed to four months.

I'll take that all day, baby.

Speaker 6

All day.

Speaker 1

Give me a moment, yeah, I know, just a moment.

We got a lot to We've got a lot to talk about now.

Now this opens up a whole new can here, Here we go, Here we go.

So you're gonna be out four starters tomorrow night in Toronto.

If I'm the Denver Nuggets.

Speaker 2

This is me.

Speaker 1

This is not David Adelman, this is not the front office.

Speaker 2

This is me.

Speaker 1

I'm sitting Jamal Murray and I'm punting this game.

Speaker 6

This is me.

Speaker 1

Okay, no problem, I'm punting this game against Toronto.

You're not beating Toronto minus four starters.

Speaker 4

Yeah, You're just not gonna do it, okay.

Speaker 1

And I don't want to hear.

Here's what I don't want to hear.

Oh, next man up, next man up.

At some point you run out of next man.

Speaker 6

Yeah, there's.

Speaker 4

There's no more next man, next man, next Ye're out four or five starters.

Speaker 1

Yeah, now you punt this game and then if you do get back the other guys in time.

Speaker 6

For the rest of this road trip.

Speaker 1

If you get a G and C be back, then you reconvene and say, okay, where do we go here?

Speaker 7

I mean, think about what the starting lineupill look like Without Jamal It'll be Bruce E.

B Hardaway, Junior Spencer Jones, Peyton Watson and Valentuni ye o care no, I agreed.

Speaker 6

Agree.

Speaker 7

I'm just saying that that's it's interesting.

How much does this do for Deron Holmes?

Speaker 6

Well, he play a lot?

Speaker 1

Now, well he played last night.

You know it's funny Dempsey and that we're talking about it before the game.

What's it going to take for Doron Holmes to get some time well.

Speaker 6

Shadow staff season ending injury?

Speaker 2

Can I ask you a question about last night's game?

How did Deron Holmes play?

Because I stopped watching?

Speaker 1

Yeah, you know it's I stopped watching.

I'm the wrong person ask I stopped watching.

I stopped caring as soon that the Nicola injury trumped everything, It didn't matter how they played.

I didn't watch closely.

I'm the worst person to ask right now, and I did the postgame show.

I have no idea how everybody.

Speaker 4

Just tuning in again.

Speaker 2

The news from Cham's was just announced to your has just a hyper extension.

Speaker 4

There is no ligament damage.

Speaker 2

They said it's going to be at least four weeks, which, given the circumstances of what we got last night, take the month reevaluate.

Speaker 4

Totally fine with me.

Speaker 6

But it is not some sort of.

Speaker 4

Anything that ends in CL.

Speaker 2

Nothing cl is wrong with him, which means it is just a hyper extension closer to what we kind of got with Cam Johnson.

Speaker 1

You know, I got a question here from a text.

Why don't you guys get that information before Shams?

Speaker 2

I don't know, because they have made their entire life about being the first people.

Speaker 5

To know this.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 10

Well, I think we all got it at the same time because the reason I was in Brett and no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 4

Getting it getting it before.

Speaker 10

Because no, I was saying, we all got sent an email from nuggets pr at the exact second that you were reading Sham's' tweet.

We all received that, so Sham's must be on the same email blast.

Speaker 1

Hold on though Sham's had it before.

The Sham's had it before the email was blasted.

Speaker 10

Maybe he's got an inside blast track.

But I'm just saying that.

Right as you went to read it, I saw the notification pop up on my phone from Nuggets PR.

Speaker 2

So somebody said, we're releasing this at this time.

Yeah, yours ready, Scham's released at nine twenty eight.

We all got the email at nine to twenty nine.

Speaker 1

Yeah, so the email means nothing.

Shams has the information first, and it's just the way it works.

It's the very reason Adam Schefter has it first in the NFL most parts, it's it's it's sort of the information hub.

I can't explain it either.

I don't know.

I tried.

I had early information.

Speaker 2

So here's what we're talking about with this news coming down.

No ligament damage.

It is just a hyper extension.

It is at least four weeks that he is going to be out, which puts in the next time we can evaluate this, essentially February.

That's when he's back or could potentially be back, is February.

You have a month, and I am very curious.

I wonder genuinely is Jamal Murray not that he's looking forward to not having Yolkic on the floor, but as he looking forward to maybe being the guy for the first time in his career.

You know what I mean, like being the first the point man, fire up twenty seven a game all the time, Like he's going to be the dude that can go out and just kind of have carte blanche on whatever.

I feel it's a good look, is going to be mind taking, So go full on.

Speaker 6

Steph Cory and just fire from distance.

Yeah, as much as you want.

Speaker 1

He's been nursing.

Listen, it's not like he's been one hundred percent either.

Jamal has been playing on a gimpy ankle.

Yeah, it happened to him two games ago, and he's been pushing off.

It's been hard for Even in the Minnesota game, he said he only shot threes later in that game because he turned his ankle.

I am not joking.

Tomorrow Night is an experiment for the Nuggets.

You play Deron Holmes, you play some of these younger dudes who have not and you just get by.

I don't want Jamal playing and that's me.

I let's just take a let's exhale here.

I'm looking at the schedule.

I'm looking at the Nuggets.

Speaker 4

How long are you talking about?

Speaker 6

I'm looking this is a seven.

Speaker 1

If he's hurt.

If he's hurt, let me let me preface it back.

If there's an ankle issue with him, I said him, I don't know how long?

How long before?

How long before CB and a G return?

Well, I I well, they're on the road trip right there, so they're they're going to play.

They're going to play on this road trip.

Estimated to play, they said originally at the end of the road trip, which means for me, maybe Sunday at Brooklyn, maybe Monday at Philly.

That's back to back.

They're not playing back to backs.

They're not playing back to back.

Speaker 7

Probably probably not.

But again, this is going to give other guys a real opportunity.

And I'm looking right at de Ron Holmes and I'm looking right at Peyton Watson for even more minutes.

Speaker 6

But vic riddle be this Currently, as we sit here today, the Denver.

Speaker 2

Nuggets are in the three hole in the West, Minnesota is in the sixth hole, and they are a game and a half back.

Speaker 1

Yeah, they're gonna be caught by okay, by the top.

Speaker 7

Well, hold on a second though.

Phoenix is in the seventh hole with nineteen wins.

The Nuggets have twenty two.

There are three games back in the Nuggets when this road trip is concluded.

Man, I kind of just want to get to.

Speaker 6

The All Star break.

When is that?

Speaker 2

Vic?

Speaker 1

I told you, man, you just want the season.

The All Star break is February the eleventh.

Speaker 6

Okay, so that's six almost six weeks.

Speaker 1

February twelfth actually is the All Star Okay.

Speaker 6

So that's yeah, we'll call it six weeks, okay.

I just want to get to the All Star break.

Speaker 7

Where realistically can the Nuggets be when we get the All Star I mean, are they out of the top six?

Speaker 1

Are they in a play in situation at that point?

There's a lot of games between now and February the twelfth.

And when they say four weeks for Joker, remember that's when he's reevaluated.

They said six weeks for ag it's been six weeks for both he and CB.

That's when they're reevaluated.

It can mean more.

So I'd say January January is done, see you later January.

And if you're not playing in January, right, if you're not playing in January, why play the five games in February.

Why not just be extra precautious about it, hold them out through the All Star Break?

Speaker 4

Well, how many gives me seventeen games in February?

Speaker 2

Okay, so you want to go eight?

Give me eight, two and fifteen.

I mean, what are we talking about it?

Speaker 4

Just give me eight wins in seventeen games most most.

Speaker 1

If you could play five hundred basketball without Nicola, I agree, I completely that's a major win.

Speaker 6

I completely agree.

Speaker 7

If you could keep it five hundred, that's asking.

I would say that just getting to the postseas anything's gravy for me.

As long as it's not a season ending injury, and it's not that everything else is gravy.

Speaker 6

They'll come back and they can.

They can work their way into something.

Speaker 4

Do let me bring something to you.

Speaker 2

I think the most prudent thing that you would do is again, four weeks is essentially the start of February.

I think probably how they're going to handle this is he doesn't play until post All Star break would be my guess.

Speaker 4

But if it is four.

Speaker 2

Weeks on the dot, when he comes back February first, you know you play.

Okay, see at ball Aerina for the first time, wow.

Speaker 1

All right.

Speaker 2

And I again, if I'm them, I'm already thinking ahead and I'm probably saying to myself, go until the All Star break, after that, will come back whatever.

Speaker 7

Yeah, but man, I'm afraid what Look, if you get into the play in and you're playing Portland or Memphis or Golden State or Phoenix or I don't care, you're gonna smoke them.

Speaker 6

I don't.

Speaker 2

I don't care about that.

I just want to see at the at the at the onset at all costs.

I don't think it's gonna be playing level.

I think now that they have, they see that there's a future that's not too far away.

With him being back in the lineup, I think that can provide as a motivator to like try and keep it together.

Speaker 4

If they got news he was out for the year, I think that's just mentally.

Speaker 6

Especially Christian Brown coming up.

Speaker 4

Yeah, exact especial, you know, back to.

Speaker 1

Back to the question how does shams get this out there so quickly, chefter and all that, Well, they have direct relationships with the agents of every player, and most information that is put out there, believe it or not, are put out there by that side.

Teams have their own source and then players have theirs and the agents put out information whether it helps him or hurts them.

And also you have to understand something else.

This is a big deal.

Schams add they are brokers of information.

They use information as.

Speaker 4

Currency, and it's transactional exactly, it's currency.

Speaker 1

So that's why they're the source of all this stuff most of the time.

And it's fine.

You know, if Shams is gonna tweet it, it's real.

It's done, just like when he tweeted Luca remember that time Luka Daucic and he didn't know what to do with it because he was like, is this fake?

Speaker 2

Yeah, Well, less your mind to you guys as to get Tuesday your final keyword, your final chance to get in before you announce a winner.

The keyword for this hour is midnight.

So text midnight in your first and last name to three oh three, five oh four O nine to two five.

It gets your chance to get in the building tomorrow for the Abs and the Blues.

Speaker 6

Watching that Cars for Kids commercial.

Speaker 7

That little Brad up front, all right, that kid's not even playing Okay, he's not even playing that guitar.

Speaker 2

Sweet again, Midnight in your first and last night Week three three five four nine two five.

Talk more about Jokic again.

If you guys are just tuning in, we got the news on Jokic.

No ligament damage, just a hyper extension, out at least four weeks.

Speaker 4

To talk more about that next.

Yeah, give me that feel good music now.

Speaker 6

I feel so much better, Mom so much.

Speaker 1

Uh get it.

Speaker 4

Anderson Skate who.

Speaker 2

Still think this album top to bottom every song is listenable multiple times, can listen to us anywhere on the Altitude Sports Radio app.

It is powered by the Will Height Law Firm Injore Laurie's Gonna will Hepewins like com this Will heightwinds dot com.

So news on Jokich.

Positive news, no ligament damage.

He is he has suffered a hyper extension.

He will be out at least four weeks.

Speaker 4

But whatever, no ligament damage.

That's the great news.

Speaker 2

Uh well, now it's a witter winner of the Avs ticket Tuesday in just a few minutes as well.

Speaker 4

I just I am so much happier.

Speaker 1

But give him this news.

I also I also want to report we're gonna move that Independence Bowl.

I'm gonna be joining GMAC for the PhD block because we have to talk more extensively about this news.

It's that kind of news.

It's that kind of day.

Sorry, Independence Bowl, We're moving it.

Something's happening to it.

We're in sports at noon today.

Speaker 2

Uh so, oh, you really wanted to check out Coast to Carolina and Louisiana Tech.

Who knows what happens?

Speaker 6

Let me, yes, where does it go?

Speaker 1

But maybe nine fifty?

Speaker 6

Yeah, probably nine fifty.

Let me let you in a little.

Speaker 7

Honest statement here, I can't remember the last time I was that panicked about an injury.

Yeah, and I mean I mean really kind of panicked, sort of a oh my god, the season's over type of panic.

Speaker 4

It's been a while till freak me out a little bit.

Yeah, recently.

Speaker 1

You know what else this means?

By the way, fellows a couple of ramifications to this injury, because he's likely going to miss twenty games or so four weeks twenty games.

Uh, MVP's out the window, So don't have to worry about any of that.

Yeah, who's who's done this?

Who's you know, usually it's the survival of the fittest at that point.

Speaker 4

What if they go like in sixteen in his absence, does that help his case?

Speaker 1

No, because you have to qualify.

You have to play in the minimum of sixty five games to qualify for postseason awards, and that would put him out of the running.

So he will not be in the running for any postseason awards.

Not that it matters.

What matters is you know, can you win a championship?

Remember the year he did not win MVP was twenty twenty three, and they won something bigger.

They won a championship that season.

Get ready for the stretch run.

Get in however you can.

If it means you get into the playoffs as a five, six or seven seed, fine, fine, let me tell you this.

If the Nuggets are healthy in March, and they get healthy in March, Joker's back to being Joker, AG's back, Cam's back.

No one is gonna want to face then the Denver Nuggets as a five or six seed, no one.

Yeah, they will be the most dangerous team in the playoffs.

Yeah, but having to go to San Antonio would stink.

You know what, though most the Denver Nuggets had the best road record in the NBA, But the injury started to mount and the grand scheme of things, the fact that he's going to be okay is the most important thing.

Listen to listen to me.

If you have a fully staffed Nuggets team in April mid April, everybody's healthy, I don't care where they're seated, ain't no one's gonna want to play him.

Speaker 2

You know the other thing, you just want to be in a place like I know they'd win a playing game, you would think, but I just don't even want to deal with that.

And I also, you know, a Texas says this Jokic getting injured is just to set up for Jamal to come back.

Speaker 4

Jamal has been back, guys.

He's had a fantastic season.

Speaker 2

He's had his best season as a pro.

He's stistically really good.

But I am curious vic if this opens a door for him.

And look, we all know Yokic isn't a ballhog, and Yokic gets people open looks when he's on the floor.

I think that the way he goes about finding his shots might be more different.

But there's gonna be an avenue for Jamal to go in a little bit more of takeover mode than he's ever had.

Speaker 1

But listen, man, you don't have to be a basketball scientist to figure this out.

Jamal gets a lot of what he gets based off of Joker being on the floor.

Yeah, they're in a two man game.

Two people go to Joker, Jamal does his thing.

Speaker 6

Well.

Speaker 1

When the sun is no longer there and you can't orbit something, it changes.

Speaker 6

The way you play.

Speaker 1

The Denver Nuggets over the next four weeks will have to reinvent the way they play basketball.

Speaker 2

I guess what I'm getting at, though, for Jamal specifically in this month thorough however long, it's going to be that Jokic is out.

I mean, I've said I said this about most backed me up here.

How many times did I say about Michael Porter Junior when he was here and people were belly aching about his points per game and stuff like that, Max Contract need more from him?

And I go, the ball can only go to so many different people during the course of a game.

And I said, look, do I think that Mpg's the most talented player in the world.

No, But if he had a bigger role somewhere else, I bet his numbers would be.

Speaker 6

And that's what you're seeing right now with Brooklyn.

Speaker 2

You know he's averaging right now, Yeah, six twenty five and a half, twenty six on forty nine from the floor and forty one from three like it's he's a very very good offensive player.

There's only one basketball exactly exactly, and I think Jamal is gonna have an opportunity here that just opens things up for him to be a little bit more.

I want to say free within the offense, because he's free, but just a chance to put up more shots, that's all.

Speaker 1

Cam Johnson and Nook like the camp thing, we're overlooking that little bit because that really affects your depth.

Man, having Cam on the floor, Yeah and Joker both injured at the same time.

They're on the same timetable.

Speaker 4

Now you realize that lanky guy too, Cam Johnson, So.

Speaker 1

The worst case scenario unfolded.

You know, they had injuries, they had to run their starters a lot of minutes, and that just puts you out there for you know, it can happen any time.

This is why I subscribe to the Sean Payton theory.

When it comes to getting that bye week in the playoffs, you avoid that stuff.

You don't even think about it.

Now you don't have fluke injuries because you don't have to play.

Speaker 2

Yeah, exactly right, three h three five four oh nine two five.

We get to our winner here, of the FS take a Tuesday in just a moment.

But again, for anybody tuning in, Nikola Jokic got the MRI results back, no ligament damage.

Speaker 4

Jokic is Uh.

Speaker 2

He has suffered a hyper extension, much the same as Cam Johnson, and he'll be out at least four weeks.

My guess is that timeline's matching up right around the All Star breaks.

We'll probably come back after that if everything goes well.

But the worst in the most feared news has been avoided.

He is in the clear at least on that Uh.

And if there's any sort of consolation to this, are you curious?

Speaker 4

Because I am Valentiunis is now going to become a thirty minute of a night guy.

What does that look like?

Speaker 1

Yeah, if you're expected it to look like Joker, that's just not it.

Speaker 2

No.

But but maybe this helps him find a little bit more rhythm within his game too, because remember, even with the injuries that you've suffered, they haven't happened to the center position.

Sure, and so he's still been getting ten to twelve minutes a night.

Now with extended playing time, can he find a little bit more of a rhythm within his role in the offense.

Speaker 1

And not only that, I look beyond that.

So the Denver Nuggets have had the benefit of having two centers.

Want to backup on a starter?

Now, what what happens when VAL's off the court?

Yeah, they go full small ball?

Speaker 6

What do they do?

Speaker 1

Does does Doron play?

He's a Zeke play?

Where did they go from there?

Speaker 6

Is Deroan going to get in as a six to nine center?

Speaker 1

I don't know.

Speaker 6

I mean, what are we looking at?

Speaker 1

I don't know.

These are Again, the Denver Nuggets will have to reinvent the way they play basketball.

Is Aaron Gordon going to be the backup center?

He served that many times?

Speaker 4

I bet they go small?

Speaker 1

Well, they have to go.

Speaker 4

I don't want Here's what's going to be the trouble.

Speaker 2

Get these guys coming back from injury, and I bet they wanted to keep those guys on a pitch clock by the time they returned.

Right, don't accelerate the timeline of what you want to do just because of this, Just this is kind of to me.

Whatever happens happens, and I think I'm gonna try my best.

If things go poorly, which they very well could without having keep things in perspective, and not fly off the handle of they go on like a six game losing streak, you know what I mean, Like you have to remember you aren't losing just a player.

Speaker 4

You're missing your entire genetic makeup.

Speaker 1

You're missing the sun.

Yes, if you took away the sun, the other planets would have trouble.

Would be in trouble, wouldn't.

Speaker 2

We We would have some trouble too, not just the other ones.

Get coolly dark, get cold here and hurry and very dark.

Yeah no, golfer vic Okay, So you guys don't play in fifty two to three weather.

Speaker 1

So the whole boy one Yeah, a boy Brett wanted to play today, Not you Brett.

Yeah, and apologies to Brett.

MOS and I both tapped out.

If it ain't sixty Brett homeboys not playing.

I just got called a name by Casey Property.

So you can do all the name call and you want.

If your hands are cold, knock yourself faut.

I ain't doing that.

Speaker 7

He just mentioned body parts and whatnot, and I said, I ain't doing it.

I'm sorry, all right, just not doing it.

Just quickly here.

Speaker 2

The winner of the parent tickets to tomorrow's game New Year's Eve Abs and Blues.

Is Nate Roberts, congratulations today, have fun at the game tomorrow and Nate fireworks inside.

Speaker 4

Yeah that's a that's a witness protection.

Yeah sure, I'm Nate Roberts, Nolly quick fact checking.

Speaker 10

I don't have an updated intro, but I can tell you that I'm monitoring the mistakes brought to you by Bacchus and Shanker.

Their passion is justice.

So yesterday Moser got an instant fact checker courtesy of Adam Schefter.

He thought that this NFL season was a little more unique than it actually is.

Speaker 2

Is this a year where you've seen more turnaround for teams that have gone from to pretty dang good than we've seen in a long time.

I'm trying to remember when we had, you know, this many teams, six teams or more that actually flipped the script and or playing great ball.

Speaker 5

Well, what I would say to that would be that thirty six straight years, thirty six straight years, at least four new teams have made the NFL playoffs this year.

The Patriots, Jaguar, Seahawks, Bears forty nine ers were all in.

None of them made it last year.

Panthers will make it six you say you've never seen a year like this, and I would say the year it's happened every year for thirty six years.

Speaker 2

Okay, to be fair to my defense, Yes, your question was like teams have won three games that have won like thirteen.

Speaker 7

That's a little bit.

That's that is exactly right.

Team that went from dog butt to all of a sudden thirteen wins.

And I'll give you an example.

Speaker 2

All conversation with Chefter by the way brought to you by Colorado Credit Union, Love where you Live, Love where You Bank at Colorado Credit Union joined today at CCU dot org.

Speaker 6

So the Chicago Bears were five and twelve.

Speaker 4

Praise little seven pounds, six pounds, Baby Jesus.

Speaker 6

Jaguars are four and thirteen.

Speaker 1

I'll talk again at noon with d Mac.

You guys go do what you do all right?

Speaker 2

Sounds good, yo, Kich No ligament damage, just a hyper extension out four weeks then Rea Value.

Once we got the news, dude, my brain just goched so much better and a goofy spot like the cars for kids kid Like I went goofy happy, goofy happy.

Speaker 4

Have a wonderful Tuesday.

We'll talk to you tomorrow.

Love, you see him
