Liz went from being interested in true crime to living true crime.

Speaker 2

My husband comes back outside and he's he's shaking, and he just looks like he's seen a ghost and he's just in shock, and he said, your dad's been killed.

This is Hands Tied, a true crime podcast exploring the murder of Jim Melgar.

Today is December twenty third, twenty twelve, and this is a representeris kind of case.

States will take you inside the police investigation.

That you can see her.

I could see her.

I believe she was tied up.

Speaker 1

Liz's father murdered and her mother found locked in a closet, her hands and feet bound.

Speaker 4

I believe that she was like this when she was saying help, okay, And then I got scared and I ran out and I told my dad.

I was like, we don't know who's in here.

Speaker 5

Can you convict a person of murder with no motive?

I knew it would be an unusual try, just because that question was so important to the prosecution.

Speaker 1

We'll go inside the courtroom as a jury decides who's to blame for this shocking murder.

I tried to keep an help in mind.

I want to believe somebody is innocent until the state can prove them.

Guilty, and will follow Liz's quest for answers.

I'm good in an emergency.

I can stay calm, I can assess the situation.

I know what I need to do.

A quest that began the moment she learned her dad had been killed.

Speaker 2

I was looking for similar crimes in the area to see if anything could be tied together or if it was the same people.

Speaker 1

And continues today using her true crime knowledge to unravel the mystery surrounding her dad's death.

Speaker 3

I think if it weren't for that strange interest or hobby or whatever you want to call it, things could have gone very, very differently.

It kind of helped me put the pieces of the puzzle together, pieces.

Speaker 1

Liz is still trying to put together years after her dad murder.

But for Liz, one thing is certain.

She believes the wrong person is in prison for the crime.

There's a lot of guilt, I think pushing me.
