Episode Description
Much of WWII history revolves around the major powers and conflict zones of Northern Europe and East Asia. But the North African desert witnessed some of the wildest swings in territory gained and lost as the opposing armies of Italy, Germany, Britain, and America first tested their land tactics in a major way against each other in the war in fierce aerial and tank battles. To help us understand the significance of Spain in setting the stage for the fascist, communist and capitalist conflict that took place most brutally after the end of the Spanish Civil War in 1939, Pete Quinones joins tonight along with Thomas777 to also explore the economic successes and military blunders of Mussolini's Italy, the sea battles of the Mediterranean, the first landings of Americans near Europe during Operation Torch, and the beginning invasion of Fortress Europe up the Italian Peninsula by 1943.
