Episode Transcript

Speaker 1

This is pop culture yearbook.

On this show, we picked pieces of pop culture that were important to us in a given year.

We then discuss our memories and dig into those movies, album shows, and more.

I'm Brad, I'm Pete, and I'm GIF And it feels like this is the first time we're back to normal in quite a while here.

Do anybody else feel that?

Well?

I don't think the same thing, because we're we're kicking off.

We are opening the yearbook.

There you go.

Speaker 2

Haven't done it a while to page two thousand and eight, by the way, But I was thinking that too.

Speaker 1

We haven't done just like a draft episode, and it seems like forever.

Well, we did do one two months ago.

We didn't nineteen eighty one, but I had a guest, We had other guests recently.

We've been guessing we were on vacation.

It's just it feels like we're starting over again here almost it does.

Speaker 3

We're digging in.

It's like a new school year, and.

Speaker 1

We had to dig this time because it's touch for the very first time.

It's a quote newer year, although it's seventeen years ago.

Speaker 3

Oh my god, but.

Speaker 1

That always still when it's a two thousand, ridiculous.

It makes it a little harder sometimes to find certain thing.

Now, movies usually aren't a problem, but sometimes TV and music can be a little tricky for especially for you guys.

Speaker 3

With the music's tough for me for sure.

Speaker 1

So we'll see how it goes.

But we will start, as always with our memories.

So seventeen years ago, what were you doing in two thousand and eight, Pete?

Speaker 2

Two thousand and eight was arguably the best year of my life.

Speaker 1

Uh well, here we go.

For a couple of reasons.

Speaker 2

It really comes down to really one week because there's two major life events that happened in one week.

In September, my son was born.

Yea, so my firstborn son.

And five days after he was born, I completed my first marathon.

That's right, that's when City's marathon.

Speaker 1

So uh oh, I didn't have a box wait quick for you, that's right, that's right.

But uh, he was actually born.

Speaker 2

We didn't think it was going to be an issue, but he was born about three weeks early, and so then it all just happened the same week, so we thought we were going to be okay.

For me running the marathon, I've been training since February.

I started training in February for the marathon in October, which I felt like I was overtrained really because I was ready to go in June and then I just had to kind of keep it up.

Speaker 1

I was like, I'm just gonna put everything I got into it.

I'm a certain February, even though I know it's longer than what they're recommending.

Speaker 2

And I found out why because it's like, all right, let's just get this thing over with, you know.

I did the whole training program the first half of the year and then it's like, okay, well I still have another few months before the actual race.

Speaker 1

But I was ready.

I was good to go.

Speaker 2

Just what I remember about that day is that it was raining like hell the first half, and then the sun came out for the second half or so, and so then I was just like totally chapped up, like my whole body, Like wherever I had closed it was like they're all wet and then they get dry.

Speaker 1

But I did it.

I was very proud of myself.

I was not known as.

Speaker 2

Like a top athlete in my class or in the school or anything like that.

So for me, yeah, no, no, you guys can foush for me on this one.

But for me athletically this was probably this and I did I did run the second time in twenty fifteen, but but for me, this was like the biggest athletic accomplishment of my life for sure.

So so yeah, those were the those are the biggest things.

Speaker 3

You did two more than I did.

Speaker 2

By the way, I also got promoted, like right around that same time too, like three weeks before, like early September, I got promoted to a new job within the company that I was working for.

Eventually I found it as a job that I hated, but but still at the time, it was.

Speaker 1

Like, sweet, I got all this going on.

Speaker 2

I got promoted, I ran a marathon, I had a baby, So like what more can you ask for in really one month?

Speaker 1

So wow, those are my biggest memories.

Giffers.

Was it the best year of your life too?

Speaker 3

You know, it was just a tough year, I mean, just the things that were going on in the world, you know, with the whole mortgage collapse, and we had we had an election going on that year, which always cranks up the tension a little bit.

But this year, Sam, my oldest son, would have been two going on three, So I remember Courtney wasn't a big fan of three, but I thought it was awesome.

That's when he really started, you know, getting a lot of you know, fun, a attitude and personality.

So I had a great time with him during that time.

Also a yearly trip going to Malax over MLK weekend with some college buddies for fishing.

That was always a big highlight to kick off the year.

I was curling during this time, I was in curling league during the winter, so that was fun.

Speaker 1

To do that.

Speaker 3

My good friends Gary and Meg got married this year, and I remember the wedding was awesome.

It was all around University of Minnesota.

And then I also remember the bachelor party.

We went to a Twins game and then we went to J.

D.

Hoyt's, a great charcoal barbecue place in Minneapolis and that is attached right next door to Deja Vu.

And I remember we all were there and at the restaurant, we're like, well, I mean, it is a bachelor party, we should probably go next door, and the.

Speaker 1

Day was moved by the way, is a place where people sometimes have bachelor parties.

Speaker 3

Yes, with ladies that have little or no clothing on.

And I just remember, you know, we were all older at this point.

I for one, were sitting in there with the meat sweats after probably.

Speaker 1

Were in there and like, oh my god, why are we doing this?

Speaker 3

This is That's exactly where that story is going.

We were all sitting there going, what the hell are we doing.

We're not in our you know, early twenties anymore.

So it was more of a token thing.

Okay, you know, we're on a bachelor party.

We'll stop in yep, and we walked right back out again.

So that's what I remember.

I think that's probably the last time I been to a strip club.

But those are some of the highlights of the year for me.

Also that year two thousand and eight was we had the Beijing, uh Winter Olympic or Summer Olympics, sorry, that was the the Olympics that Phelps brought home eight goals.

I wrote the record for gold medals in a single.

Speaker 1

I actually remember that well.

Were we were staying.

My sister in law had a like a mobile home type portable home at the Wisconsin Dell's, and we were all there that weekend when he was winning all these medals with our baby, and it was kind of rough.

The sleeping in the situation.

But I remember Michael Phelps and I remember the Olympics very well because of that.

Speaker 2

Yeah, I just want to comment Gifford, because you said it was an election year, so tensions were ratcheted up.

I'm glad that right now we're not in an election years, so that we don't have those tensions going on.

Right now, we have nothing briefing going on.

Everything good, very very calm.

Well, this was two thousand and eight.

I would call this the year of the Baby.

So you talked about your friend getting married the baby the best friend of our show who made our Metallica playlist, mister Ryan Hummel.

He got married this year too in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Speaker 1

And at that wedding, like there were no less than four pregnant women from our group.

So Jenny obviously was pregnant, not as pregnant, but Kim was pregnant, and Erica was pregnant, and Carrie Copple was pregnant and she had her baby first and like in the end of May, and then we had Isla in June, and then Chris and Erica's first born came around in July, I believe, right, So they're all seniors this year, so that tells you how long ago two thousand and eight was, because all these kids are seniors.

And then Pete's came in the fall, so he's a junior.

But there was all these pregnant women, There was all this, all these babies coming.

It was a really big year for the group we are all mostly a part of.

Speaker 2

More importantly, don't forget the bachelor party of Humble's wedding out in Las Vegas.

Speaker 1

That was a fun that was this year too, wasn't it.

So yes, I almost forgot, I mean, yeah, so, yeah, we went to for Humble's bachelor party.

It was a wonderful week and then I wrote down, yeah, so I went to Arizona with me and Kim met Chris and Erica, our friends in Arizona because her parents lived there.

But I forgot that.

We went to Vegas first and then Chris, you guys, will went home.

Me and Chris were into the car and we drove to Arizona and played golf and hung out with our right with our wives.

Now, that was a great time.

That was a great weekend, great week at Scottsdale.

Speaker 3

I remember, well, I didn't go to the bachelor party, and I remember we weren't able to make the wedding because there was a massive blizzard, yes, and we weren't able to get out of Themidge to get down there.

Speaker 1

For that.

We were supposed to play golf the morning of the of the Friday before the wedding, I think of the groom's dinner, and we ended up like going bowling or something because it was we were all snowed in everywhere.

You couldn't do anything.

But I do have a specific memory of then after the grooms dinner in Seux Falls, that night, we all went to a movie and so one of the movies I really wanted to pick for this month, but turns out I'm not going to.

We all went and stuff forgetting Sarah Marshall and Pete, I'm sure you were there, and that movie was amazing and hilarious and we loved it and we all saw it together that same weekend.

Speaker 2

Just another sports memory that came to mind.

The Twins made it to Game one sixty three against the Chicago White Sox, and unfortunately they lost it despite a brilliant a brilliantly pitched game by Nick Blackburn on a solo home run by Jim Tomey, and that was on the day that my son was born.

So I only got to see like the last inning, and didn't it go into ten innings?

Speaker 1

Wasn't it in the last inning or or was it like No, I think he had hit it in the middle of the game somewhere and then that was it and we just kept but we never scored.

And yeah, the only other thing I have down is because this was the time of baby.

So my our other child was two years old, and so this was in the middle of the three years where I worked not quite full time as a teacher, and so my wife and I were swapping schedules, and I look back, I don't even hardly I can't believe we did that for three years because I can't even hardly remember it.

But I would go to work from six thirty in the morning until one, and I would come home and then she would work for me.

I don't know if it's two to nine or two to ten, and so we'd see each other for like fifteen minutes on the weekdays, and then I wouldn't see her until that night when it was time to go to bed.

And so she had our children in the morning.

I had them at night.

And it worked out great, I mean as far as not having to pay that insane childcare bill and everything.

But when I look back and think, I just don't remember it being three years long, like I have almost no it's like blanked out of my mind that I didn't work full time.

It's market It felt like you guys phoned to you know, spend some time together, considering that, considering there was two, considering that there was a child on the way.

Yes.

Yeah, So it was a crazy time, very memorable, very fun.

You know.

It was on that on that edge of where we were still kind of young and fun and did some fun things, but also becoming, you know, very much family oriented as well.

And because of that, I saw a lot of movies.

That's all.

If we ever got out of the house, we were going to a movie.

And so I started writing movies down.

And at first I'm like, man, I didn't see many, But that's kind of how it goes sometimes, like January February, I'll be writing movies down like there aren't many, and I'll start reaching and then by the end of the year I'll have like thirty movies that I saw and so we did.

Speaker 3

A lot and there were a lot going through the list that it's like I maybe saw it once, I don't know it well or I did at all.

And there's good movies.

Speaker 1

From twenty to them down, and I think I deleted like five to ten others that I know I saw it kind of like, but I just figured I don't need that many written downs.

Speaker 3

So sure, but.

Speaker 1

We're gonna start with TV tonight.

Yes, So we're gonna draft TV, then movies and then music.

That's the order we're going.

We've got our draft order ready to go for for TV, it's gonna be Pete first, followed by me and then GIF.

All right, are we ready to go?

Speaker 3

Yes?

Speaker 1

Ready for my pick?

I think I have the year right this time.

So for my number one overall pick one of the greatest movie or TV shows of all time, I am taking Breaking Bad?

Did I get that right?

Speaker 3

That season?

Speaker 1

So none of us had watched it then, but yes, that is the year it started, and so that is a pretty good pick.

Speaker 3

That is a suitable number one overall pick.

Speaker 1

Pete, you did it just haveruth on?

All right, Well, my top two are shows that we've already done on this show, and I'm gonna pick the show that is in its prime, and I watched it at this time it was in its prime.

I just finished watching it through for the third time, and I love it more and more every time.

I'm picking How I Met Your Mother, And we have episodes on Breaking Bad and How I Met Your Mother out there in our catalog.

Speaker 3

That was the first one I wrote down when when putting this list together, I would like to point out that there was during this time a writers guild strike, yes, started somewhere started November of seven, reached into middle of February of this year.

So there are some seasons here.

If you look at you know, shows and episodes and dates that things came out.

There was a lot of abbreviated seasons in this year, and then like series would start back up, like maybe the beginning of nine, even though it ended in February, like you know, people were on hiatus or whatever.

Speaker 1

Well they had episodes in the can yep and so it's kind of that delayed effect.

Speaker 3

Right, Okay, Well, I'm gonna I'm gonna stick with my Heart here.

Another show, another show that we've done a show on.

This was in the seventh season.

There was only five episodes in a way due to that writer's strike.

But I'm going with Scrubs.

I love it.

I still love it.

Turn it on every once and again just to catch up.

And you know what, that's.

Speaker 1

The one that I keep meaning that maybe I should start up now, and because now I just finished Parks and rac too, so I'm like, I don't really have a show I'm watching, and I keep telling myself that I should try Scrubs again, and maybe I will.

Speaker 3

It's it's worth your time.

Speaker 1

Oh, I know, it's great.

I just I just got to tell myself.

That's the pick.

Mhm, Pete, what's your pick?

So for my next pick, it was probably one of the biggest hawkers of the year.

You guys might not have thought to put this on the list, but it was so huge, again because it was an election year.

The Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday edition and you'll remember this was on during the election season and this was the introduction of Tina Fey as Sarah Palin and just how big that was and how it swept the nation.

That's my pick.

I did see it on the list, and yeah, yep, it is a great pick because it was huge and you didn't want to miss it.

I wanted to see Tina Fey and you wanted to see that every week, and it was perfection.

Speaker 3

I can see Russia from my house.

Speaker 1

Well, that leaves my second choice on my list, which is another show we did a year or so ago, and that's lost.

Gifford's not watching anymore, I don't think, because I think we're in season four at this point.

Speaker 3

I didn't even it down because I quit after season three, so I didn't put it down on my list.

Speaker 1

But we have a great episode on it, and it's a great show, and that's my number two, all right.

I was getting very confused at this point because now we have the time travel really go in all directions.

But I still loved it.

Every week it was an event.

It was great, all right.

Speaker 3

Well I'm gonna go with a pretty big juggernaut during this time as well.

It was season four going into season five.

That is the Office.

There's a course.

This is the season where we have season five, episode eight where you get the gift of Michael screaming no, no, no, when Toby comes back.

So anyway, it's wonderful.

Speaker 1

Yes, good too.

That was my number three right there.

Speaker 3

So.

Speaker 2

One that we just talked about that we're going to be talking about later this month.

Speaker 1

It's another one.

It's kind of like The Simpsons.

Speaker 2

In that it just span so many years that you could almost pick it any year, but this is the year.

I think this is right around the time that I really started getting into the show.

I think it started around ninety eight ninety nine that timeframe, but it was kind of off and on.

Speaker 1

But I'm going with Family Guy, and that is Pete's pick for the month.

I don't know if you've said that or not, but he's going to pick out some Family Guy episodes that we're going to go back and revisit.

Okay, well, now it's a little harder because the next my list is all, well, no, it's not hard.

I'm going to pick the TV show.

The TV show that I wanted to pick for this month because when I found this show, it took me by storm, and I've watched it through.

There's only like eighteen episodes, but then there's also two movies.

But I've watched it, I don't know, four or five times, and it is The in between Ers and it was on Netflix and it is a British show about these kids at a private school.

And if you like comedy like me and you've ever heard of The in Betweeners, all I can say is you're welcome.

It's hilarious.

It is so funny.

It's a little over the top, it's a little dirty, but it's so funny.

Speaker 3

Yeah, and I will see Brad for turning me on too it because I watched it specifically because he told me to and I did.

I watched, I watched the episodes.

I watched both movies.

Speaker 1

Yeah, there's three seasons.

There's only six episodes in a season, so it's not a big commitment.

But I wanted to pick it for our show, but I feel like most of the audience has probably never heard of it.

So what I hope is it somebody listening to this will watch it and then get back to us and let us know that you hopefully liked it.

Speaker 3

M Well, I am going to pick something that was just in its first and second seasons hit everybody like a ton of bricks, kind of a big deal, ran forever, but this is when it kicked off.

That was the big bang theory?

Speaker 1

Was it that news still here?

Speaker 3

Yep?

So it debuted in Old seven.

So this sort of been the end of season one and beginning of season two.

Speaker 1

Okay, yep, I was watching that at this time for sure.

Mm hmm.

All right.

For my next pick, it's one that technically not a TV show, but you guys will definitely allow it.

It premiered in two thousand and eight.

I watch every episode that I can, and it's it's always just funny to me.

It's between two ferns, Zach Galifanakis.

Speaker 3

Nice.

Speaker 1

I can't get enough of it.

I don't know if you think it's old or whatever, but I still enjoy watching whenever.

I've only seen certain clips of it here and there.

I mean, I don't know, I mean I know it, I don't know a lot about it.

That a movie.

I didn't even know what the show.

I just thought it was a thing he did every once in a while, and like it's, well, it's kind of that, but there is a movie.

But yeah, it's like ten minute clips.

You can you can download all the different episodes or go find it on YouTube.

I've seen and then he's he's had Barack Obama on, he's had Hillary Clinton, uh some yeah, of course.

Speaker 2

Matthew McConaughey has been on a couple of times.

I think the outtakes, it's the outtakes are great and it is just so funny.

Speaker 1

Just how deliberately awkward it is.

That's the whole point.

Yes, I will allow it, Pete, because of what it is is it's as similar to like Billy on the Street, which came around a few years later, which I think, right funniest things it's ever been on TV.

Speaker 2

So Billy on the Street technically though, that's a Netflix show.

Well, at first I think it was.

I think at first it was more.

Speaker 1

Of just a a YouTube type show.

Speaker 3

I think it was a YouTube thing.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

I think Between Two Ferns is put on by Funnier Die, like Funnierdie dot com or something.

Speaker 3

It seems probably well and I mean, can you imagine how long would take to do just one little interview, like, I mean, you'd be losing it the whole time.

Speaker 1

I mean, it's just it's right, Yeah, I don't know how you keep a straight face doing that show, right, all right, My next pick, I'm going to pick a show that I was watching on Netflix discs.

There's a few on my list here that I would always get on the discs at the time.

Because this is pre streaming, and this is the only way you could watch like the HBO shows unless you had HBO, which I didn't.

And this show, you know, it really spoke to me being a really cool Hollywood type guy myself, and so I did enjoy Entourage.

Of course, it's a little cringey at times, and you know, it's maybe does an age as well as other shows, but it was always just a fun show to It was fun.

It was just fun, and I liked it.

Speaker 3

So season five is where we're at in a O eight and.

Speaker 1

I'm pretty sure by watching it at this time, you know, with those with the discs and the mail.

Speaker 3

I got it on my list, all right.

So, as Pete mentioned with his I think it was his second pick with the SNL on Thursday nights and a lot of the political humor.

I was turning on Comedy Central at ten o'clock every night to watch The Daily Show with John Stewart.

This was the thirteenth season of The Daily Show.

Speaker 1

Nice and now he's back.

Speaker 3

He is back on a you know, I mean they have quite a few different hosts, but yeah, he's back on.

Speaker 1

Right, you know, if he really wanted to make this hard on us, we should have kept stats, and like you could never pick a show more than once ever, because yeah, because Gifford's picked at like ten times, and I mean, like I couldn't pick How I metrimomented again.

Speaker 3

Scrubs.

Speaker 1

I know, that's what I'm saying.

Think of how hard that would be if we were like that kind of a show where we're that much of a stickler.

Speaker 3

I don't watch that.

I mean, I'm a creature out.

I think that's the way TV viewership is, right, like, especially when it before streaming, when you couldn't just binge seasons of shows like you every year you watched, you waited for the premiere, and then you watched it every week, you know, and.

Speaker 1

We would never do that, but I was thinking of it right now when you picked it again.

And then because like The Office for example, you know, you got to pick a ear like this is a year.

I would pick it because it was great, but like if it was the last two seasons of the first season, I wouldn't be picking it because I didn't like it very much and I didn't watch it every week.

Actually, the first season was good.

I'm thinking of Parks and rec but whatever, some of these shows you know, they have been flowed and some of these shows, like you know, Breaking Bad, none of us were watching, but you can still pick it because it came out.

So it's just we try to put ourselves back in those times.

Yeah, for my last pick, I'm going to pick one that is pretty uniquely around this time frame.

It was on for a few seasons.

I don't know if we've ever mentioned.

Speaker 2

It on our podcast before, but certainly a good show.

It I think flies under a little under the radar for how good it was.

Speaker 1

It doesn't get talked about enough.

My name is Earl actually number four on my list because I watched it every week.

Speaker 3

Yeah, that was not one that I watched regularly, but I would catch episodes every once and again.

Speaker 1

But it was like I don't know how many years it was on, for two or three years, I watched it almost every week and yeah, well every week it was great.

But it was always a good, entertaining, easy show to watch.

Speaker 3

I like the actors that are in it, Like, I don't know why it didn't catch me.

Speaker 1

It seems like you would really like it.

Speaker 3

That's weird, right, Yeah, it's kind of odd.

Speaker 1

All right, Well, I am going to pick another show that I think did a debut this year or it came out right around this time, and I would be at home, my wife would be at work, and I'd be holding my babies or putting in the bed, you know, and a show started that I just thought was so cool and different at first.

And that was Chuck.

Speaker 3

Season one into season two, so it was very, very very new.

Speaker 1

Yep.

And I had the biggest crush on this Yvonne Stra thought she was maybe the most beautifulman I'd ever seen when that show came out.

But I really liked at the time Zach Levi and the cast, and it was just was a fun, cool show.

Speaker 3

Yeah.

Speaker 1

I don't care much for him anymore, but I liked him in the show.

Speaker 3

I have it down on my list here.

Speaker 1

Yeah, and again I'm trying to think of what I watched at the time, and like, I was all over that show by myself at home, both my kids.

But you know, yep, Monday nights, I believe.

Al Right.

Speaker 3

So my last pick, if you just look at my fourth pick and just go a half an hour later on the same network, here we go.

I'm taking Colbertypoor.

I absolutely love that show.

I don't know if you guys keep up with the The Late Show.

But he just did a skit again as Colbert from the Coldberry Poor and it was excellent.

Speaker 1

A shout out by the way to Jimmy Kimmel.

We are going to be staying up to watch the Jimmy Kimmel episode tonight.

Speaker 3

So very nice.

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Speaking of Colbert and Jonathan's, they're all in the same They actually all have like a podcast together.

Speaker 3

I think that is pretty good.

They did want during a writer's strike.

What was it called Strike Force five and it was and it's like seven or eight episodes of Pure Gold.

It was Colbert, Jimmy, Jimmy Seth and John Oliver.

Was John Oliver on it too?

Speaker 1

Pretty sure?

He was, Yeah, I think you're right.

Yeah, the way I watched every episode of John Oliver, it was so funny.

Speaker 3

Yeah, well, very very well done.

Jimmy did Jimmy Fallon did a He led the episode where they did a game where he questioned the wives and it's they they just absolutely the other four just tear them apart.

It's one of the funniest podcast episodes I've ever heard.

So yeah, yeah, Strikeforce go back and listen to that one.

Speaker 1

So I do have more shows on my list.

I don't know how many other Netflix discs show that I could have easily picked.

Its Curb Your Enthusiasm, So that was one.

Thirty rock too, watched every week.

I don't think thirty Rockies as great as some people make it out to be.

Like, I liked the show a lot.

I agree with you.

There's a lot of people that act like it's the greatest show in the history of TV, and I'm like, it's a little love I think, and so much fun and some episodes are great and some are a little hit, you know, but I liked it.

I watched it every week.

There was always a good one liner in there somewhere.

Yep, what else do I have?

I had Scrubs at all that Sunday night football is pretty new at this time, you know, if we needed to do that whole thing and then the other two I have our deal or no deal.

That was big at this time.

And Christina Applegate was in a show that didn't last long, but it was on Thursdays.

It was on along with Scrubs and one of the other shows Samantha Who where she had amnesia and I was love Christine Applegate and everything, and it was pretty good.

So that's my list.

Pete, Well, we watched Desperate Housewives a lot, so that was on my list.

I knew I wasn't gonna pick it, but and I also did have The Simpsons.

I had twenty four Let's see Parks and Recreation and Parks erected start till two thousand and nine.

I didn't then, otherwise that would have totally been on my list.

Speaker 3

All right, I just got a couple more.

Byrd Notice was in its second season.

We I was watching this every week twice a year, two seasons a year.

Dancing with the Stars uh season six and seven.

Christy Magucci won season six, and Brooke Burke yes please one season seven.

Speaker 1

I remember Brooke Burke.

Yeah, he'sn't seven of what show?

Dancing with the Stars, okay, And she went on before that, whatever she was on was before that.

That's right, wild on on, eh my god, yeah, right wild on.

Speaker 3

The One of my favorite moments ever on this podcast was when I brought up a particular show.

Speaker 1

It came out this year.

Speaker 3

Ta Was and Testes all thirteen episodes on the FX network.

I did not watch it on FX.

I was turned on to it by a buddy and I as I remember, and I watched it on like Hulu online when Hulu was like brand spanking news, so it was well after it was over.

But you can find it now on Plex.

I watched two episodes last night.

It's so stupid, but god, it makes me laugh.

So if you have time, check out Testies one season thirteen episodes.

Speaker 1

And I wish I could remember what episode that came up on, because yeah, Dave was on and he laughed so hard because he thought you were kidding, couldn't believe it was the real name of show.

It might have been our breaking bad episode or it was either probably the breaking bad episode.

I think it was because it was the month he was on with us and the other two topics for the Vikings and the room, and I don't.

Speaker 3

Think and I wasn't on that whole month, so I came on the breaking bad episode, So I think that you were on.

Yeah, so was his surprised laugh when I mentioned Testes was is one of the best things ever.

Speaker 1

And explained it like how it's spelled and everything.

Speaker 3

Yes, So check it out if you have time.

It's it's all right.

It's really stupid.

But it's it'll uh, it's a good popcorn show.

All right.

Speaker 1

Well we are moving on to movies.

I have number one pick here, followed by Gift and then Pete and I already mentioned my movie pick here that I'm going with number one.

I'm not picking it for the month.

Me and Gifford mutually determined what movies we were gonna pick.

It's not really either one of our picks on our own.

We mutually picked the ones we thought we wanted to do.

It gives some variety and and what we thought the fans might want for like the best.

But my memory of scene forget forgetting Sara Marshall on that snowy night before Hummel's wedding with all my friends, and how much we laughed.

Oh my god, I laughed.

And my wife loves this movie.

I love that movie so much, and the and the Hawaii setting in there, because I just it's such a great movie.

And Jason siegeal you know, he never misses.

Speaker 3

There are moments and cinematic history that are burned into my brain.

And when she walks into the lobby in that.

Speaker 1

Pink bikini, melakunis you mean no, no, no, this is Kristen Bell.

Speaker 3

Kristen Bell, It's one of the greatest things I've ever seen, so yeah, good pick.

All right, there are some pretty two really big ones that I love from this year, and I'm gonna take Brad's pick then that we're gonna cover.

I'm gonna go with The Dark Night.

Speaker 1

So second covering that movie.

Speaker 3

Second Nolan Batman movie Keith Ledger as the Joker Iconic.

Speaker 1

We thought this was too big to skip because it was just it was an event movie.

It was like the original Batman, which we have an episode on for eighty nine.

But it was an event and I think we all probably remember where and when we saw it, and it was so exciting to go see this movie.

Yeah, a gigantic movie franchise that has long long jumped the shark big time, but this was the original.

I'm going with iron Man, yeah, and it was.

It was pretty good.

Speaker 2

During the pandemic, we watched like the first as many of the Marvel movies as there were at the time, which was like at least twenty when we were just sitting at home and doing nothing, because we watched all the Star Wars, all nine of the Star Wars movies.

We watched all the Harry Potter ones, and then next week we said, let's tackle.

Speaker 1

Marvel, and so we watched them all in iron Man, who is probably the best of them, are right up there.

Speaker 3

So the three the three movies I have highlighted from this year are for Getting Sarah Marshall, The Dark Knight, and Iron Man.

So I'm pretty pretty happy with the top picks from this from this draft.

Speaker 1

Well, my second pick, I'm going to pick quote Gifford's choice for the month, which I'm gonna pick it because I actually liked the movie more than he does.

But again we discussed we hear people talk about this movie so much and the love for this movie out there, and I do think it's really funny.

I mean, there might be parts here and there that you know, we might stirre up some controversy on this episode, but we're gonna do step Brothers this month, and that's my number two pick.

And I mean most people that listen to the show might know my love for John c Riley, so with walk Hard and so you know, whatever you think of Will Ferrell, John c Riley's in this movie and he's always can't miss, all right, So you also have Mary Stainsberg and America's Mom who you can't miss with her either, right, So we'll talk about that later.

So now for me, there's a huge drop in the top four movies from this year.

So this is where I'm just gonna start throwing stuff out there.

There's a lot of good ones though, there's some good ones, but there's a there's a break for me between these top four.

Speaker 3

All right.

So you know Pete picked a Robert Downings junior movie.

I think I'm gonna take one as well.

I'm going Tropic Thunder.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

That was a big talker.

Yeah, bet, I felt like I was supposed to like it more than I did.

I liked it, but it's like, you know, you hear so much about it and I have no desire to see it again.

Have you watched it in seventeen years or yeah?

Speaker 3

Yeah I have.

I mean Tom CRUs.

Speaker 1

Just I don't know.

I'm just wondering if you did.

I know Tom Cruis part Yeah that's great, Oh my god.

Speaker 3

Yeah, there's some good stuff.

Speaker 1

All right.

I'm going with one of my favorites.

This is one that, as we just talked about, I considered doing, but I didn't think it would be a real great talker.

But it's just a fun movie to watch.

Twenty one.

I love that movie.

Speaker 2

So it's spaced well a little bit, and it's basically was us in two thousand.

Speaker 1

And eight when we went to the casinos.

That was basically what we did Stone Cards.

It was a good movie, though I will down Las Vegas, but im I T T.

I think it was MI T Yeah, all right, back to me.

Well, there, there's there's a lot of good movies here on my list, so I'm gonna go with I'm gonna save that one because I know neither of you are probably gonna pick it.

So I'm gonna go with another movie that was really funny.

That again, I feel like I should see more.

I've seen it like two times, but it's a great comedy.

Might be funnier than some of these other ones.

And that's Role Models with Paul Rudd.

Speaker 3

I don't think I've got ever seen it.

Speaker 1

There you go, That's what I mean.

It's it's so funny, it's really good.

Speaker 3

Well, as I said before, as I was going through the list of movies, I was like, well, I know that movie.

I just haven't seen it, so I can't really put it on my list.

Speaker 1

That's when you should watch, because that's a that's a miss.

That's one of those really good ones that sure got lost in the shuffle.

Apparently.

Speaker 3

All right, So I'm still kind of a new dad, you know.

I got a two year old going on three.

A lot of animated movies are circulating my DVD player at this point, and I actually came across this one the other day online, so I watched the beginning of it.

And the airplane scene in the beginning of this movie with the penguins, to me is some of the funniest comedy that I've ever seen.

And that iss Madagascar, Escape to Africa.

It's like kissing your sister.

I love those penguins, and that airplane scene is phenomenal.

Speaker 1

That's the second one, right, it's Escape to Africa.

Speaker 3

Escape to Africa.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I remember you talking about the penguins before, and they are funny.

Those are some pretty good movies.

Speaker 3

And we got King Julian and you got to move It, Move It, and there's a Nephew Nephew No.

Speaker 1

I used to dance to that.

Speaker 3

Come on watching the Little Man dance to You got to move it, Move it is worth the price of admission at our house.

Speaker 1

All right, Well, if you want me to stick in the animated genre, I sure can.

I'm gonna go with with wall E.

Speaker 3

Okay, Okay, I have that because of course I was.

Speaker 1

I believe it's pretty too.

It's a good movie, and it's kind of thought for voke looking and especially with what's coming on with AI now like it's you know, a lot of it could be becoming relatively true.

But it's a good movie.

Yeah.

Well, I am getting older.

We might be getting curmudgeonly at some point here, and so get off my lawn.

I'm taking Grand to Reno again.

Another great movie.

I saw the movie theater.

It was it's fun, it's serious, it's really good movie.

You haven't seen a Gifford.

Speaker 3

I've never watched that movie.

Speaker 1

Holy cow, how'd you miss that one?

Speaker 3

Because I was I was home a lot with my yead, I just going on to movies.

Speaker 1

I'm we've seen everything, and you would usually watch them later.

Speaker 3

So it's like I say, I went through this year and it's like, okay, I've seen it, seen it.

Get off my lawn, Gifford, I will do.

So you're right, it's your turn, ye, get off my turn.

All right, so on, I'm gonna go with continuation in the franchise.

If you like blood and guts and lots of it, I'm going with Rambo.

There's a scene where he turns a fifty cow on a field full of bad guys and it is quite impressive.

Speaker 1

And this one was just called just called yep, now I get it.

Go, yes, actually that I could take, but I'm gonna go I think this is the first Daniel Craig James Bond movie.

Is the second.

Oh yes, that's right, that's right.

But I'm going with Quantum of Solace.

Speaker 3

There you go.

Speaker 1

I did have that one written, which the stupidest name for a movie ever, Like, who can either they all have?

Who can even say what that means?

Though?

It's like you're trying to alienate half of this stupid country who is stupid and you just go, okay, I don't know what that means, and it makes me think it's trying to make me feel stupid.

Yeah, and I'm an English teacher.

Speaker 3

And you're an English teacher, for God's sakes.

Speaker 1

All right, Well, I'm gonna go a different direction to a very cute movie because I have a very nice memory there's two movies on my list that I relate completely to my daughter, who was born this year, And so Kim and I went to see the movie Definitely Maybe with Ryan Reynolds about a month before she was born.

And it's Ryan Reynolds and it's his daughter and she's trying to figure out who her mom is between these three women that he had dated, and one of them is Rachel Weiss, and one of them is I think Elizabeth Banks, I can't remember the third, and then the other one is Isla Fisher, and we knew who she was like from Wedding Crashers.

But we were sitting in the movie theater and we were both like, that was really fun.

Movie's cute.

And the credits start to roll and we didn't have a name for our kid yet, and we both saw the name Isla on the screen and Kim's like, how do you pronounce that?

And right away we both just knew that was the name for our daughter right there.

And I just think it's the prettiest name.

And I love that movie because of it, and so that's got to be my number five.

And I knew I could save that one for the end that wins for that wins for being the most meaningful pick of the night.

Speaker 3

Thank you.

Speaker 1

Yep in high school.

Speaker 3

So far, I ain't over yet, Brad.

Your last three picks I didn't even have on my list.

I had to pencil them in.

Speaker 1

Wow.

Speaker 3

But again, that was another one I saw and on the list.

Speaker 1

I'm like, well, I'm not surprised that two of them.

I still just can't believe you've never seen grand to Reno.

That seems crazy.

Speaker 3

Well, I'll put it on my list.

Speaker 1

I watched Role Models first, actually, but it's more fun.

Speaker 3

I'm going again as a new father.

I'm going back to the animated realm.

This one was huge.

We actually had a video game for the PS two with this movie, and that is Bolt Oh Travolta and Miley Cyrus and Esmond who was uh what's his face's wife on Curby Your Enthusiasm, Oh Susie Esmond.

Yeah, I absolutely love this movie.

And you know, I mean it's kind of a takeoff a toy story, and you know, kind of like buzz Lightyear doesn't know he's a toy.

You know, Bolt doesn't know that he doesn't have superpowers in the room.

Speaker 1

Ye kind of I saw.

I think my kids liked it, and I saw most of it once and I could tell it was pretty pretty good movie.

I enjoyed Let's Be Love Dogs of course Heat all right, My last pick is Zach and Mary Make It Porno, a very underrated comedy.

Again you don't think it's stupid.

We both liked that movie a lot.

Yes, I like it, and uh, I was a little surprised, Brad, you didn't take it earlier.

But there are some other good ones, I know.

But yeah, I actually haven't listed number six on my list, so it was ranked highly.

But I got most of my top ones here and there you go the other movie that I associate.

So the night before my daughter was born, we you know, we're like she was gonna be induced, so we knew it was gonna happen, and so we're like all excited and like, what do you do to pass the time?

So we went to a movie and there weren't many good movies out, so we went and saw You Don't Mess with the Zohan with Adam Sadler.

But he's a he's a hairstylist, so like him was under that it's not terrible, Like it was a good movie to pass the time.

It's I'll always have a nice spot for that one in my head too, because it got us through that last night before we went to and Uh and had Isla and then if I want to keep going with Isla, I got to mention Mama Mia next, because that's one of her all time favorite movies.

Both Mama Mea movies and I love them too.

It's a guilty pleasure.

Speaker 2

I just saw that for the first time about two years ago, and it's a I like Abba or and after seeing that movie, and the reason we watched it is because we saw a high school performance of Mama Mia, and so we wanted to watch the movie after we saw the high school performance and Uh, and then I had Abba was all.

Speaker 1

I was listening to for at least a week, and so I did see the Before this, I saw the Broadway or not well the Broadway show, but in at the Orphium in Minneapolis.

Sure, it's great music.

It's it's just there's so fun.

You just want to watch a fun movie.

There you go right there.

I almost picked slum Dog Millionaire then Oscar Winner because I loved it.

That's another one where like I saw it and then I would think I watched it on video once and I've never seen it since, but I loved it.

I loved it.

A really sneaky good movie from that year is Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist with Michael Sarah and I think it's Kat Dennings from The Horrible Show to Broke Girls whatever.

It's not only a fun movie, but it's got an incredibly good soundtrack.

It's like a lot of indie music like stuff.

You but it's it's so good.

It's just it's a nice movie.

Four Christmases.

I know Pete's a big fan of that one.

That movie.

By the way, Christmas, I am going to bring it.

It's been brought up on here more than once.

Okay, Well, Jon Favreau in that movie, if we were to make a movie about our lives, Jon Favreau is playing Hey, and there's no there's no second place because if you watch that movie, it absolutely is exactly him Hey Lyon No really underrated Jim Carrey movie was Yes Man.

We saw that in the movie theater and I thought it was really funny.

I don't know if you've ever seen this movie, probably not.

Angelina and Joe Lie and Changeling.

It's an incredible story.

It was fascinating that movie.

I thought it was so good.

Speaker 3

I never seen it.

Speaker 1

Yeah, and it's on a true story.

This is not as good a movie.

But Kevin Costner did a movie called Swing Vote, where like he was the guy that decided like the presidential race, and it's kind of it's again it's stup, kind of cute though, because it's I like Kevin Costner.

M H.

Gifford.

Have you seen the movie Sex Drive.

I saw it once May too, and I assumed you would have seen that one.

Yeah, it's one of those funny, stupid movies.

Speaker 3

Yep, watch it once.

Speaker 1

You got burn after reading which the best part of that movie was is the gift of Brad Pitt with his headphones working out.

I mean, that's but it's a Cowen Brothers movie.

It's good movie.

Speaker 3

And when we talked about characters dyeing, you don't see coming.

I mean when he's in the closet and the person opened the closet door and kind of pops up and smiles and gets shot immediately in the face, it was like, oh, he's like, you didn't think it's Brad Pitt.

He's not gonna die in the movie.

And it was just like on a left field, he just gets shot right in the face.

Speaker 1

Brothers.

Yep, clover Field was a good movie from the year.

It's when I didn't know i'd like so much, but I did.

I saw so.

I saw two movies at the Imax at the Zoo that year.

One was The Dark Knight.

The other one was You two three D, which was I hadn't seen You two in concert yet and I've seen him twice now, but that was one of the coolest experiences in the Imax at three D.

I mean, it was like such good three D, like Bona would come out the screen, he'd be standing right in front of your face thinging.

And my brother and I went to that and we had a blast.

It was so fun.

Letter and I thought that might be the only time I'd ever see You two in concert, which didn't really count.

But then I did get to see him twice.

And then finally I got to mention two more movies, mostly for my wife, Twilight and Sex and the City came out this year.

Twilight I have to mention for my daughter because she's totally into it.

And I watched a movie I'm like, oh my god, Yeah, and I saw almost every one of these movies in the movie theater, and not all of them, but most of them.

And there's others that I took off the list.

So which other ones do you have.

I've got Handcock, I have Get Smart, had First Man on Wire.

It was pretty good.

I saw it.

I miss that documentary, I don't.

I don't think you mentioned it unless I love that movie that should have been on my list that could have been picked.

Actually, Curious Case of Benjamin Button, UH, Kung Fu Panda, and hurt Locker.

Speaker 3

The hurt Locker came out this year.

Speaker 1

I don't think I came.

It won the Oscar in a different year than Slomon.

Speaker 3

Yeah, I don't think it was came out.

Speaker 1

I thought it did, but maybe I'm wrong.

Speaker 3

I don't have too many other good thing I didn't think it.

Speaker 1

I guess it's okay here.

Speaker 3

I got The Incredible Hulk with Ed Norton came out after Ironman, second one in the mc U.

Another Angelina Joelie film Wanted and I think is that it Uh.

Then the Uh the Wrestler Mickey Rourke.

Speaker 1

We actually saw that in the movie theater too.

Speaker 3

Also came out this year, and I'll mention it.

I'll mention it because this wasn't a big year for me, evidently for Will Ferrell because step Brothers.

I enjoy the movie.

I've watched it many times since, but one year terrible.

Yeah, I just never.

I mean I've seen clips of it.

You know, it look funny, but watch it never really never.

I don't think I've ever watched that movie.

Speaker 1

That was the stretch of the sports movies he put out.

It was too many, and they just, yeah.

Speaker 3

Well you never seen that, you know.

Speaker 2

I'll go ahead hurt Locker by the way.

Festival premiere was September of two thousand and eight.

Theatrical release was two thousand and nine.

Speaker 1

So I acologize, well that you didn't pick it and you still found evidence that covers you.

So that's great, Pete, good job, see good work.

All right, Now we're gonna go to music.

This will be our shortest list, I'm sure, and it's gonna be Gifford followed by Pete and then me.

Speaker 3

Okay, so well, i think I'm going for the tough guy vote here right off the bat.

I'm gonna pick an album and that will be that's gonna be Fearless by Taylor Swift number one, Taylor with white Horse, You Belong to Me fifteen, love Story yeah, Fearless, Yeah.

Speaker 1

You Belong with Me and Fearless and love Story.

That's all you need right there.

That's that's a banger of an album.

Speaker 3

So why not?

Can can I say something real quick?

So we had our this Monday released in real time, in real world time, we released our top five or our draft for stand up comedians.

Courtney was not very happy with us, by the way, for not having enough female women.

Speaker 1

Mentioned, well, that's a deaths of the industry.

Though there aren't that many, you know, the guys.

Speaker 3

We took her huge, but most of my music is all women for the whole list.

I didn't really, I mean it is, That's just the way it is.

Well, I can't believe you Taylor Swift first, but I think that's nice.

And we do have an episode on the Taylor Swift Folklore album.

It's a great episode because we had a guest who was an expert and you can go back and find that one too.

And being that this is her second album, she's still kind of belonged to country, you know.

Speaker 1

She's definitely country still at this point.

Speaker 3

Well, I know, but I mean she's pop, right, I mean, she's the biggest thing in the world.

She's she's transcended just one genre of music, like she was still, you know, considered more country.

Speaker 1

Two albums later, when she put out Red, she still won the Best Country Album, which I think is ridiculous because it's like one song and that kind of sound of country.

Right, but she's still considered country at that time.

So all right, Pete, I'm gonna see I might be able to smitch snipe on a Brad's picks on this one.

Oh, I'm sure you will, definitely in my in my opinion, Uh, this is the best song that I could find on this list for this year, is uh.

Cage the Elephant with Ain't No Rest for the Wicked.

Oh wow, I don't have that on my list either.

I didn't know that I have it.

Well.

By the way, I'm going to see Cage the Elephant in a month.

I can't wait to see them.

They're wonderful and content.

It'll be my third time seeing them.

Oh, and I love my daughter is going with because she's a big fan too.

I didn't realize it went back that far and that that song was from that's great find Pete, thank you, awesome song.

All right, Well, I I gotta pick Rim, I guess because this was a huge album for me.

So Rim of course lost Bill Berry, who quit and then well quit.

I don't want to put it negative way because he kind of it was good for him.

They put out a couple albums that I like without him, and then they within seven years, they only put out one album and it was Around the Sun, and it is the worst Rim album.

Everybody unanimously agrees.

And it took forever, and then finally in two thousand and eight, they put out the album Accelerate, which is fast, It's like thirty minutes long, it's rocking again.

It's got the best singles they've ever had, Supernatural, super Serious, and it was so exciting when it came out because it was like Arium is back, and so it was great.

And then they only put out one more and quit.

But at least we got those last two and that last one that they put out on you Love It?

Are you taking?

Are you taking the h entire album?

There?

I'm taking the whole album Accelerate.

Yeah, okay, I had Supernatural, super Serious on mine.

That would have been a good one.

Yeah, all right, I'm gonna go with another one, Brad that you might return.

Speaker 3

Did I go first?

Don't take yours.

I'm just gonna go on a song on this one.

We covered this band in an episode.

I'm going with the song Viva La Vita by Coldplay came out April twenty fifth of eight.

It is their first number one hit.

Speaker 1

So we can't take the album now then, No, you sure can't, because that was my number two on my list because I love that album.

That's a great Coldplay album.

That's actually one of my least favorite songs on the whole album.

That's how good I think it is.

So I think it might have been picking.

You might have sniped him.

Speaker 3

Oh I'm sorry?

Did I know?

Okay?

Speaker 1

You did?

No, I'm gonna pick one that is from a genre that we, you know, don't usually go go to.

But this is a great song.

It's Flow Ride Up featuring Tea pain Low.

Yeah.

So I'm a big my house guy with flow, right, I know you are.

And yeah, I love that song too, But that one didn't qualify for this.

I know, I know.

I was hoping it did because I was love, which is another kind of irresistible to flow right with one of those guys.

Yeah, he's not really what you would think we'd like.

But you know, he speaks to us white boys too, he does.

He does.

Speaker 3

That's that we're his target audience.

Speaker 1

I believe he cut He cuts a broad swathe there.

All right, Well, I'm gonna pick a song now, and this is one of those.

I mean, I don't know if she's considered a one hit wonder.

I mean, to me, she is, but it was from the movie slum Dog Millionaire.

And it is just an awesome, awesome song.

And you hear it all the time.

It's on movies and TV commercials, and it's got that the gun sounds in it.

If you can't recognize it, it's paper Planes by M I A.

And if you don't know when I say it, you know what.

The second you hear it, you know what?

Speaker 3

Song?

That is excellent?

All right?

I am gonna go with another song, another one hit wonder.

Uh.

Lady called Katie Perry.

Uh.

She did a song I Kissed a Girl.

Came out April twenty eighth of eight, number one on the Hot one hundred, as well as number one in Sweden Switzerland Scotland, Norway, New Zealand, Netherlands, Italy, Ireland, Hungary, Germany, France, Denmark, Czechoslovakia and Australia and Belgium.

I mean it was kind of a a girl kissing a girl evidently are out in the world.

So and I do as well.

Speaker 1

Get accept my presentation on the screen.

There.

Oh, I can't let me just get there.

There we go.

I think I just did it.

Here you go.

I just want you to take it.

So you know that song, Oh yeah, that song is so good.

I don't know anything about about m I A, but that song is amazing, wonderful.

Speaker 3

All right, Pete, you are you are to go.

Speaker 1

I'm gonna go with a band that's all a country, not like a crossover like Taylor Swift was, but it it's a great song.

I love it.

I love this band.

I'm not a huge country guy as far as especially like like the newer bands, but I do love the song Chicken Fry by the Zach Brown Band.

Speaker 3

Excellent pick, Pete.

I I was gonna go with the album The Foundation because then you also get toes.

Speaker 1

Yeah that's one which came out No.

Speaker 3

Nine, but you could, you know, include it on your on your album.

Speaker 1

Well, I don't want to go wrong on the years, you know how I hate doing that?

Speaker 3

Yeah, I do.

Speaker 1

But a great pick, all right, Well I have to pick one that I don't know if Pete saw here, but we went and saw a concert about what eight years ago.

We saw the Fretelli's at first Have and before they came on, we walked in and there was this band on stage opening that none of us had heard of, and they just immediately blew the roof off the place.

And that was when I became a fan of Blood Red Shoes and I've been listening to him ever since.

We've seen him in concert what three times?

I don't know how many times you went, Pete, but they that I was there, yeah, yeah.

And so their first album, Box of Secrets, came out, which has It's Getting Boring by the Sea, which is an incredibly good song, but the whole album's great, and they became one of my favorite bands that night, and so I got to pick them.

What's the name of the guy in Blood Red Shoes Steven Mansell and and he is totally friendly.

We talked to him, like them, So it's just two people.

It's this guy that plays drums and sings Steven Ansel and then Laura Mary Carter who plays guitar and sings and by the way, she's the sexiest guitarist you've ever seen in your life.

And just the two of them on stage makes so much noise and so much great music.

It's awesome.

They are so cool.

Speaker 3

Did you tell him you play high hat?

No?

Okay, all right, I am also going with a debut artist from this year, A Lady Gagat came out with The Fame August nineteenth of eight, including Booker Face, Just Dance Paparazzi along with others.

Speaker 1

What's it called the Fame?

Yeah, okay, this would have been the year that I actually saw because it was right before that came out that I saw her in person, just like she literally walked right by my cube at work because she was signing off on a deal to do that and she was much shorter.

But it was before she was really well known.

I barely I had heard of her, but like I barely knew who she was.

And then of course she blew up the same thing with Adele and some other artists as well.

But yeah, her and a few other people walked right by and yeah that was pretty cool, especially in retrospect.

Now how big she came obviously, UM.

Speaker 2

Let me put every single disclaimer I can before my next pick.

I do not in any way respect this person or this artist.

But I did enjoy the song.

I you know, I still enjoy it when it comes on.

It is kid rock with all summer long, which I enjoy the song all.

Speaker 3

Right, So I have in my notes I just wrote in the margin fuck this song.

Speaker 1

I never liked that song.

Speaker 3

I like bastardiz is two awesome songs Werewolves of London and and Uh I'm with You.

It's basically just a let's match these two together, and because it's awesome.

I mean, those two songs are awesome, so of course you're gonna put something together that that sounds rate.

But it's just a it's just a money grab.

It's I The song's catchy, don't get me wrong, Pete.

It's very very catchy.

But screw him and screw that song.

Speaker 1

I love that threw him.

I didn't realize I would elicit that much passion.

I just you know, hey, cool, the song is on, you know, and I put it on my list, So I apologize anybody.

Speaker 2

You know what I'm trying to do.

I'm trying to unite the country here.

Okay, we don't have to we don't have to judge everybody.

Speaker 1

You know, if you enjoy the song, enjoy the song.

Speaker 3

So that all, yeah, and that's fine, you can absolutely opinion.

Speaker 1

I haven't liked rock since the day he came out.

His type of music is the worst thing that I could ever imagine.

I hate his music.

So there's that.

I put your picture away.

I like that song too.

Speaker 3

So you got some good He's got some good music.

There's some some of his music that I really enjoy.

But if you're gonna take so blatantly take other people's work like that and just mash it together and and go okay, hey look at my song and give me money, I really have a problem.

Speaker 1

And I get why some people like those songs and that's fine, but for me, it's chalkboard everything about him.

I just I can't stand it.

All the way back to bah with Toba, it's just no, come.

Speaker 3

On, not no at all.

I'm not going that far.

I that that's a that's a that's a toe tapper for me, you know, So.

Speaker 1

I had to pick be that one.

I mean that's I can.

Speaker 3

Appreciate some of his music for sure.

If it's his music, don't don't take somebody else's and mash it up and go give me, give me Away.

Speaker 1

Let's move on.

Then, Yeah, that was coming to I didn't.

I didn't.

I'm going to take another very controversial band that a lot of people hate it, especially by this time, but this is one of the last albums that I think had some good songs on it.

For me, I'm picking Wheezer's Red album because I like Poor can Beans.

But actually the song is like better is Troublemaker.

I think that's a great Weezer song.

So I'm taking the Red album by Weezer.

Speaker 3

All right, okay, all right.

I am gonna go with a little known artist.

You some call her Queen Bee.

I call her Beyonce.

Uh single Ladies came out uh October eighth of eight.

Speaker 1

Wow, and I would have thought that song was way older.

Actually that surprises me.

Song your choice, Thank you, sir, Thank you.

I I don't care for that song either, by the way, so many another one.

Every every Beyonce song to me sounds disjointed, and it's just I can't.

I can't this is the one.

Speaker 2

Like her signature song, and it's and it's fun when it comes on if you're at a party or something, and.

Speaker 1

I get it.

I'm not saying you can't like it, go ahead, I'm just sharing my own personal can't you can't?

Can I like the song that I picked though, Brad or Am I just not allowed to?

No, I don't like differ different made the case you cannot like that one.

Okay, Well, I'm going to move on to my last song.

I'm going with the Killers on this one, space Man by the Killers.

Hm, I don't even know that one.

That's a good one, you know.

It's not as good as their older stuff, but I do like the Killers and it's just kind of a fun song.

Had another one two that I was gonna pick.

I can't remember the name of it even, but that's my last.

My last pick is going to be another band that I like quite a bit.

I don't love everything they put out that they have a lot of great songs and they debuted here and I actually have a vinyl of this album.

It's a Vampire Weekend's debut.

Vampire Weekend with the songs A punk and a song that I love Oxford Comma.

It's a fun, fun album, and they're they're a fun band.

Speaker 3

Excellent.

Speaker 1

So what else do you got?

I have just a couple one by Jason by a vowel Maraz, I'm yours.

It's a good love song.

Speaker 3

I love that one.

Speaker 1

Brad, You're gonna hate this one.

I know Darius Rucker will learn to live.

Yep.

Not a fan.

Well, by the way, well this is my this is the ones I didn't pick, and these were the ones that were reaches.

And I do kind of like that song on yours.

Speaker 3

I do too.

Speaker 1

Yeah, that one is I get it.

And actually I don't need to mention that one.

Okay, we can go.

We're good.

I guess he's done.

I'm done.

Speaker 3

I go ahead.

I got Disturbing You by Rihanna, So What and Sober by Pink, Hot and Cold Katie Perry already mentioned her, and You Somebody by Kings of Leon and gives you hell all American rejects.

Speaker 1

Wait, gives you hell?

Speaker 3

So this year yep.

Speaker 1

Really that's a great sign.

That's not older.

Are you sure?

Speaker 3

I'll check it again while you go.

Speaker 1

Okay, I'm just surprised because I would have had that down.

I thought, I have a few others here.

So there's an artist called Jim You Have all These Women.

Gifford Jem Down to Earth.

It was her first or I can't remem if it's a first or second album, but I was kind of introduced to her by Mark Hamilton, our friend, and she had two really really awesome albums at this time.

Okay, nobody mentioned Jack Johnson Sleep Through the Static.

It's not my favorite album of his, but it does have some good songs on it.

The Rack and Tours had an album it doesn't have the I picked recently, which was Steady as She Goes, but it's got a song called old Enough and another one.

There's some good songs on there.

Racking Tours is Jack White, by the way.

He's in that band, a band that I totally love that I saw one of the best concerts ever saw.

It was Weezer and the Foo Fighters and the Open There was three great bands.

The Kaiser Chiefs opened for both of them, and they had a song this year called never Miss a Beat.

They are one of the most just fun, very very catchy songs.

You had a Kings of Leon.

I had Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon and then the band MGMT.

They've got these hits that seem to be very very popular that I think they were popular with people of a certain age at that time and they've really lasted the test of time.

But their album Oracular Spectacular came out and I didn't really remember it at the time, but I hear them all the time though, Like this there they had some pretty big mine like you know, indie indie hits.

It's a very beloved indie album MGMT.

Speaker 3

Okay, it gives you hell.

By All American Rejects September thirtieth of eight.

Yeah, number four on the Hot one hundred.

Speaker 1

You're never wrong, so I'm not.

I'm just I want to far caught me off guard.

I didn't think so me neither.

That was that was my sixth pick, and yeah, I would love that pick.

I would have taken that over most out things you guys picked.

But I got to mention then if that's a crazy song, you know, it's got the catchy hug, it's got the shout along with it.

It's they put out some really good hits in the two thousand, So America Rejects, Yeah, absolutely well done.

Boys.

We got a lot of mileage out of out of two thousand and eight.

I thought it was a little and controversy.

Yes, yeah, we'll see what you think.

What do you think?

Audience?

We would love to hear from you on Twitter?

Are you all cursing me for talking about all the stuff I hate?

Or get more?

Are you cursing me for taking uh kid rock?

Do you?

I don't know if you want to know?

Speaker 3

Do you hope we.

Speaker 1

And if you are cursing any of us, please leave us a five star review and then let us know what you thought and then churs.

But we're gonna be coughing Family Guy, The Dark Knight, and Stepbrothers this month.

There won't be a lot of controversy probably on those, but who knows.

Just that Family Guy, there can definitely be controversy for sure.

Hey Gifford, Hey Pete, what what band was the inspiration for Zach and Mary make a porno?

Speaker 3

Uh?

Speaker 1

Yeah?

Speaker 3

That that is pretty that's right?

Sure?

Speaker 1

Mm hmm yeah, yeah, a.

Speaker 3

Little more nudity with those guys though from that movie.

Speaker 1

That movie really didn't have any nudity, did it did?

I can't remember?

I thought it really because they don't get naked.

You're right, there's a real porn star in that.

Speaker 3

Movie that's in it all.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 3

I was thinking Elizabeth Banks, but yes, she does not.

Speaker 1

There's other actors.

I think there is later in the movie too, where you see man parts man equal opportunity, Yeah, asked.

All right, all right, we're thanks for listening for this week, so we'll put our man parts away.

Speaker 3

We'll see you next week.

Speaker 1

Call bye, all right, We'll see you later.

Bye.

Starting on my own tip, what's your job.

Speaker 3
