Episode Transcript
You're listening to a mom with mere podcast.
Whoever said orange is a new pink with seriously disturbed laurels for spraying groundbreaking?
Speaker 2Oh my god, you have to do it.
You live for fashion.
Speaker 1Hello, and welcome to Nothing to Wear, the podcast that solves fashion problems and levels up your wardrobe.
I'm listening to Picket.
I'm Chelsea boy and each week we talk all things fashion, whether that be trends, fashion weeks, street star, even just how to get the most out of the clothes you already own.
But Chelse, what are we talking about today?
Speaker 3So Best of Season is officially over, we're into the new year, and you're feeling as deflated as we are.
It's okay because the new year is the best time to really look at your wardrobe and do a refresh, particularly when it comes to work out fit.
Speaker 2As we get back into the office.
Speaker 3So today we want to break down how to reinvent your work wardrobe without having to break the bank.
Speaker 1Nice because it's like they can feel a bit drab, can't they like the clothes you wore all last year into the office Every single year, you just want a little bit of a refresh, So how can we do that with the clothes we already own, all right, So Chelse, I love what you're wearing today.
I love that the little box of shorts and an oversized shirt for the summer days where it's boiling outside.
Do you have any recommendations on what to wear for that heat and that commute on the train, etc.
Speaker 3We're quite lucky here in the mom of the office that the vibe is quite diverse.
It can be a little bit more casual, but if you are a corporate girl.
I used to work in a very like traditional conservative corporate office where the dress coat is a little bit more strict than it can be difficult during those warm months getting to and from the office and fringerwrite what.
Speaker 2To wear for me.
Speaker 3Back in the day, the key was lucish fitting clothing.
I think tight skirts tops.
It really just doesn't do well with the heat.
So the main uniforms I kind of had were number one, a linen set.
Linen in general as material is great, yes exactly, but I would love some sort of pant with a linen blazer or even a vest a vest top I think is really great and a way that kind of feels dressed up because it is kind of like a paired set.
Speaker 1I love a linen vest, Like you know, it's sort of popped off a year or two ago, but they've stayed consistent and relevant, and I think there's just that commercial viability, right.
Everyone loves wearing them, and they're so comfortable, so comfortable, and.
Speaker 3Also the thing I love that sets is you can kind of break it up and pair it with the pieces, so very versatile.
Next is a silk midi skirt, so middi skirt, also very very versatile.
I'd like to pair it with like a button up, tuck that in, or even like a more structured kind of top.
But silk is a great material because it is a natural fiber, really really breathable and perfect for those warmer months.
But you're kind of commuting to and from the office.
It is a bit of an investment though, Like silk items can be quite expensive.
One of the ones I have is a silk slip maxi skirt in this kind of mauve color.
It is three hundred and ninety five dollars, which is quite a lot of money, but the amount of wear that I get out of it go math.
Speaker 2I feel like I've made my money back.
Speaker 1You know, and getting like a nice color like that or a mutual color.
You will be able to mix and match, won't you.
Speaker 3And also something that doesn't have to be corporate either.
Nice you can wear it to the office, but you can also wear it on the weekend, dressed.
Speaker 1In in different ways.
So I got that.
Speaker 3And finally some sort of a dress that's a lightweight material.
I do have a linen dress that is a bit more formal but still very breathable.
I think dresses and skirts are really key, just because you've got that circulation nice, Like a tighter pant can.
Speaker 2Be kind of difficult when you're sweating.
Speaker 1Nice.
Speaker 2What about you?
What are the kind of things that command.
Speaker 1I've never been super super corporate.
It's always been in like creative roles or even in trend forecasting.
It would be dependent on the client.
So like I did have a really corporate client, and everyone would always know when I was seeing that client because I'd have to dress up relatively corporate to go to meetings.
But if you were in more like I sort of asked some of my friends the other day, like you were, and that's what would what do you do?
And it's all about that suiting whether it be getting a half lined or an unlined suit.
And if you try to figure out where do you how do you know if it is or not.
It's just if you're googling, just put half lined or unline suit or usually in the description, just say you're searching on Zara, it'll have in the description if it's fully lined or not.
They're everywhere actually, Zara, Camilla and Mark h and M.
So depending on your budget.
I love a short sleeve suit and blazer that sort of oversized cool girl vibe.
There's a really beautiful one at the moment on Zara.
It's a really lovely butter color.
Again, big color last season, but I still think it's relevant and we'll sort of follow through to next year because it plays within that neutral space.
Anyways.
Really, and this isn't a this isn't yellow.
It's very much more of a button mutual color.
But yeah, that short sleeve blazer, it's an oversized not lapel, so it's cool girl vibe.
A soft shoulder pad two hundred dollars.
The only thing it's eighty percent viscos, which is that semisynthetic.
Like you said, if it's those really hot days, you want a little bit more of a breathable material, but for that price of two hundred.
Speaker 2Dollars, you can't really eat that.
Speaker 1Yeah, right, And being short sleeve I really like, but like you said, if you cannot for more like the natural materials like the silk, cotton, linen, et cetera.
Another thing I do like with what you're wearing today.
Actually, I love an oversized shirt, and particularly in summer, if you can go through a populum over an Oxford shirt.
So it's just how they look quite similar, Like do you know what yours is?
Speaker 3Is that?
Speaker 1Not sure actually because you can't really.
It's just by how it's stitched and woven, so the poplin's more breathable.
So if you're shopping online or in person, just check it's they're all oversized shirts, but just see if it's either a populum or an ox hurt.
That's interesting because it's a little bit more readable.
Speaker 3So I think we're all guilty of just having the same five or six outfits on, especially when you're going to work every single day in the office, you just kind of throw on the same things.
Speaker 1It's feel like what's on top of the washing that's just been cleaned?
Speaker 3She just grab I think for me, beginning of the week I start, I put in a little bit more effort by the time you get to Wednesday, Yeah, yeah, what can we do to really kind of break out of that pattern and switch it up?
Speaker 1Like you said, it's so funny.
It almost depends on the time of year as well.
Like you said, at the beginning of the week, you're a bit more organized the beginning of the year.
Like this start of the year, I love having a bit more of a plan in place.
And something I did last year and even the year before was each day of the week, have a key item that I'd wear and then I'd style that piece, And that was me trying to explore my own personal style as well, a little bit like Mean Girls.
On Wednesday, we were pick but it's more about the peace.
So for example, Monday, it was a trouser or pant Tuesday, meaty skirt, Wednesday, oversized blazer, Thursday addressed because we'd usually go out for after work drinks on Thursday, and Friday could be a bit more of a wild card because it's casual.
So having those pieces dedicated to a day, I know it sounds like a little bit of thinking but it's not really it still works with how your washing cycle goes.
Speaker 3I also think the pre planning actually takes away having to think about it in the moment, which is a lot of the stress of getting ready is getting up and being like what am I going to do?
But I think having, like you said, like a day allocated to an item or something that don't want to.
Speaker 1Way, it's a bit of stress out of like, you know, you're wearing a trouser on Monday, Okay, how am I going to style that?
So it's okay wearing those same pieces consistently, it's just restyling them each day.
What I also liked is I would stick to that depending on the weather.
So just say I had an oversized ways a Wednesday and it was actually a really hot day.
I think, Okay, I kind of want to stick to this, but i'd wear it was short, so I like a little, a sand little rather than just opting for something that i'd usually do.
Speaker 3You get people creative as well, Yeah, get us out of your pieces.
Speaker 1Did you have anything you're doing corporate or here at mumamea yes.
Speaker 3So something I've been trying to do is the three three three method, which is kind of this thing that was going around on TikTok, essentially taking items in your wardrobe three tops, three bottoms, three pairs of shoes, and so I would take, for instance, in this case, what you would usually wear to work, whatever items those are, and then trying to make as many possible combinations, so you're really mixing up Maybe I'm used to wearing this top with this particular pair of pants, but then now I'm like swapping out what bottoms I'm wearing.
Maybe I'm switching up the shoes.
So you're really making the most of what you already own and wear, but trying to find like a new still aware or a new style that you haven't really explored.
And I think that's a great way to not have to invest in new pieces, sure, but get the most out of your work.
Speaker 1And I'm sure you probably now if you're investing in a piece, would you think of that three three three?
Speaker 2Yes, exactly.
Speaker 3I usually kind of think about, Okay, what are the pieces I already wear to work, and how can I really add to that.
Speaker 1That's cool, I haven't heard of that.
That's really good.
Speaker 3Oh yeah, it's kind of circling around to it's kind of a like a mini capsule wardrobe the ways, I would say, and.
Speaker 1That allows you to be creative as well.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1I want to know about your foot wear shells.
That's something I always get stumped on because I go for sort of sandal a lot of the time.
But I know, like people in corporate can't just do that, right, So, do you have any recommendations on footwear?
Speaker 2Yes?
So when I was working corporate, initially it was all about.
Speaker 3The heels, but then the commute it's rough, and I generally personally don't like to wear into the wardrobe and then put my shoes on in the office.
I kind of like to just go in with the shoes.
Speaker 2Lots of people do, yeah, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Speaker 3I just personally like to not have to carry the shoes with me and bring them around me.
So I'm always opting for a flat.
So, if you're someone who values comfort ballet flats, I love that they're back in fashion.
I know for a period of time they were kind of out.
Speaker 2Yeah, very I don't know.
Speaker 1People say they're all frens.
Do you say they're all comfortable?
Not?
Speaker 3Every ballet flat is made the same.
I love Charles and Keith.
It's a great They do bags as well, but they're really known for their shoes, really affordable and really really comfortable.
So I have a pair of Charles and Keith ballet flats with studs of them that I wear all the time.
These loafers that I'm wear as well also Charles and Keith cool.
So I would recommend yet a ballet flat or a loafer when styled the right way.
I think it can look really really cool but still professional, which I think is important.
Speaker 1And did you find any cool pump or heel that was comfortable?
Yeah?
Speaker 3I find a closed toe with a sling back for me and not too high.
I'm always like opting for a kitten hill.
Yeah, nothing higher than like this, just because yeah, easy to walk around and I find sometimes with sandals.
Speaker 2My foot slips back and forth.
Speaker 3If I'm walking around a lot, especially if it's a heel, So I generally like to opt for something that's closed toe and it's kind of like.
Speaker 2Secure in there.
Speaker 1And a kidden hill that's giving me post traumatic stress.
I used to work at Cookeye and have to wear like huge platform pumps and just all day on that concrete floor.
It's also surprising.
Speaker 3Do you remember back in the day we would all go like clubbing into bars in platform heels.
Speaker 2That were like this high.
I don't know how we managed it.
But now it's all about comfort.
Speaker 1I feel like it isn't that nice?
Actually see the young geren Z going out and like sneakers and stuff.
I actually love that.
Yeah, I wish that was us.
Speaker 2What about you?
What are the kind of shoes that you would you know?
Speaker 1I found this brand from Nothing to Wear listener?
Actually who commented on one of our Instagram posts, because who was I think Tim and I were talking about comfy shoes that you can walk ten k's in right or to not get ten k's ten thousand steps, and she mentioned bed Shoes, which is an Ossie label.
Have you heard of them before?
Speaker 2I have.
Speaker 3I think I went to an event where there were really stylish, fashionable shoes and she told me they were the most comfortable.
Speaker 1Pair of shoes that she and the founder was a podietres turned entrepreneurs, so they have that sort of knowledge, I suppose, and their diverse range as well.
Everything from sandal so I saw a really nice fishermen sandal, but obviously not everyone can wear that.
But they had heels and pumps and whatnot as well.
But this bare shoes.
It's Ossie label, which I love.
So that's definitely one I'd recommend for any listeners out there, Yeah, who are looking for shoes?
Speaker 2You from shoes to work bags.
Speaker 3The work bag is a tricky one because there are just so many bits and bobs you need to carry to and from the office, a laptop, water bottle, makeup, all the little extra bits just to sign out.
Speaker 1Look at the bag that I've walked today, it's like a Ford over all the listeners.
Speaker 2Listeners, this like massive what would you call that?
Like a big double bag all stuff.
Speaker 1But yeah, you're in a rush in the morning, aren't you just trying to throw everything in that you need.
Speaker 2Yeah, there's so many things you need to bring.
Speaker 3What brands or styles would you sort of recommend for a work bag for all your things that fits everything.
Speaker 1I love that oversized bags are back in me too, Did you like, do you have many of those microbags?
Speaker 2I so, Look, I love a micro bag.
Speaker 3I love a useless little purse that holds nothing but like a lipstick.
Speaker 1Yeah, it doesn't even fit your phone, It doesn't do my phone.
Speaker 2I have a few of those.
Speaker 3I love it, But there's nothing I love more than a massive bag that I can throw everything in.
Now that they're back in the style as well, there are just so many more options I love.
Speaker 1Yeah, your makeup bag, your laptop, your water bottle, which is now like what the big Stanley two leaders have ever.
Yeah, yeah, So I'm enjoying that oversize is back because I would have like my going out bag in the office, like crammed onto me my desk and then my big oversized bag.
I love the brand July, who are sort of it's an Australian brand, I believe, but they're no one more for their suitcases and luggage.
They do some really great carry ons and they've got one called the July Juliette.
I don't know if you've seen this one, Chelse, but it's sort of everywhere at the moment, and I think it's for a good reason, Like it's this really beautiful, stylish fashion like it's more of a fashion bag rather than just luggage, and like a functional bag.
It's made out of a leather or a sustainable leather material, which is good.
It's got the removable drink bottle holder, it's got the sleeve for your laptop.
It's also got that pass through band, so if you travel a lot with working, you put it on your any sort of suitcase.
I'm sure it's sort of suited more were compatible with a July suitcase.
But it comes into three different sizes, so depending on how big you actually need.
So if you've got all your gym where if you go to the gym afterwards, or a change of clothes, they've got the work size which is eighteen liter, the large tote which is twenty two, or the spacious tote which is twenty six leaders.
Speaker 2So you'd be getting.
Speaker 1So yeah, I really like July And I actually didn't know they did this sort of bag until I had a little look online.
Speaker 3And it sounds like a functional bathroom through like very thoughtfully designed four people going to work who have a lot of things, the fact that there's the drink bottle holder all that, so I think, yeah, that's a perfect kind of work bag.
Speaker 1Yeah, and the price isn't too bad either, three hundred and twenty five dollars.
And I think because it's that sustainable leather like material, not actual leather, but awesome, right, like it makes it affordable for everyone, especially.
Speaker 2A work bag that you're gonna wear every single today.
Speaker 1Yeah, what about you, Juels, Is there any bag that you currently own that you suggest or have you got any that you put your eye on?
Speaker 3Yeah?
Speaker 2So I only have one work at a time.
Speaker 3Really, I'm not the kind of person that swaps it out because I just hate the process of like taking my makeup bag out and all the little bits that are inside.
Speaker 2So I kind of just stick.
Yeah, So I just stick to one.
Speaker 3But my favorite brand is Bagoo.
They have so many styles.
They come in like larger toads.
I've got the shoulder bag and that also comes in different sizes depending on what you want to carry.
And what I love is that there are so many like colors and materials and designs.
Speaker 2My one's a leopard print.
It's the nylon shoulder bag.
It's absolute favorite.
Speaker 3Yeah, fritally and it's fifty four USD and that's around like eighty Australian dolls.
Really really a fish really practical.
But the thing if it's my laptop, which is important.
But the thing that I love most about this bag is that it is machine washing.
Speaker 1It is such a good point.
Speaker 2It's such a game changer, and especially if I okay, I.
Speaker 3Mean full disclosure, I'm a MESSI gal.
I throw things in my bag all the time.
Sometimes the cap of your you know, lipstick will come off, sometimes your eyelinder will get dirty inside, and I love that I can just take everything out and the throat in the wash and then it's so good.
Speaker 1I love that.
Speaker 2So that is a real game changer.
Speaker 1You know.
Actually, I'm gonna throw another bag in the mix.
Have you heard of the brand in the label?
Yes, last time.
But it's like made out of this rubber dare I say, plastic whatever the material it is.
But if you throw any sort of water or it's water resistant, but you can just wipe it down, which is perfect.
Yeah.
Speaker 2I think that's a key in work bags as well.
Speaker 3Like a practical bad that you're taking around all the time that's got so many things in it.
Accidents happen, you know, still things, you'll get things on it.
So I think that like finding the right material on a workbag is actually very important.
Speaker 1Yeah.
I love that.
So I guess we've like just had Christmas sort of big like shopping all the sales and stuff.
Do you have any tips tell us on how to revamp your work wardrobe without completely starting from scratch.
Speaker 3So I would say accessory is very very easy and like a low barrier to entry way to kind of spice things up with it havings like break the bank and buy like a whole new wardrobe, whether that's styling new jewelry or like finding shoes that are a little bit more fun to kind of spice off the apport.
But another great tip I think is layering differently, So kind of taking a look at the items that you already have and maybe if there's a shirt that you always pair with a blazer, thinking like, okay, maybe I'll style it with a cardigan or you know, a sweater vest.
Yeah, and kind of mixing it up that way and trying to style different fabrics in your wardrobe.
Speaker 1It's a little bit more adventurous.
Yes, yeah, yeah, I like that idea, and that encourages people to like find their own personal style.
Speaker 2Yeah exactly.
Speaker 3I think like being creative of what you already own is the best way to kind of get the most.
Speaker 2Out of your wardrobe.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, yeah, I like that.
Speaker 2What about you?
Speaker 1I'd say this saying, like even just us talking about bags, So he's opting for a new bag like those bagoo that you mentioned that's so affordable, right haty dollars.
So maybe it is just a new bag, something that you're going to wear every day to the office and it not just be like a new blouse that you only really get to put on rotation weekly or whatnot.
I also think it's a time to play around some of those micro trends, Like you know, the scarf is like a big bandana scarf or belt scaff whether it be like acting as a bit of a twilly around your bag.
Maybe it's like a next scarf or it is like wrapped as a belt.
So maybe it's like exploring micro trends.
So yeah, I trendlight the scarf where you can get it from eight dollars from big w It can completely change your outfit or an existing outfit in multiple different ways as well, sort of belt, next scarf bag rather than buying like one item.
Speaker 3Ye, and I think it's a great tip, especially for corporate environments, because sometimes you it's not realistic to buy like a really loud blazer or something really really exciting.
So maybe it is like that pop of color in a little stuff or something you can put on your bag.
Speaker 1So, yeah, do you know what I used to do as well?
I forgot I'd buy I wear prescription glasses, and i'd buy like you know, Specsavers or PSM are always like we're two for one or whatever, which allows you to sort of stock up on a couple, So I'd maybe have like three or four on the go and get quite different styles.
It's a great one, right, and that can completely change the outfit that you're wearing.
Speaker 2Yeah, okay, I'm going to confess something.
Yeah, don't judge me or do but I don't wear prescription glasses.
Speaker 3Yeah, but I love to get fun frames and I just wear them as like a fun like accessory, Like it's kind of like earrings.
Speaker 2Or like a necklace.
You know.
Speaker 3It's a fun way to spice upon an outfit.
And I see it as like an accessory, like and.
Speaker 1No one would ever know it is an accessory.
Yeah, okay, I love that, And it shows how much it plays into fashion, right, Like it really can complete an outfit, agreed.
Speaker 3And different frames really add like such a different effect, like you can do like thicker frames.
I have a pair they've got like embellishments on it.
Speaker 2That's a really unique way to make a little bit more fun.
Speaker 1Yeah.
I love that.
Speaker 3So anyone who's worked in an office knows that temperatures really can range during the day.
So what are the foolproof like layering pieces that you need if you're commuting to an office and you're going to be sitting in air con all day.
Speaker 1Do you know what I always do is I carry around a really lightweight cardigan, lightweight nit cardigan.
It's so lightweight that it can roll up into my bag, especially if it is an oversized bag, so it's tucked away.
If the weather changes, whether it be colder, I can put that on, and it's so light that I can layer it as well.
So we've got like a T shirt on with an oversized waser, I could put that cardigan on underneath the blaser and then it's easy to take off as well.
I just find it's just nice having that extra thin layer that's really easy to carry around just in case that weather changes.
And I find most people have like a cardigan in their wardrobe, or you can get a really affordable one, like there's one at Uniclod.
They do a really great one for thirty nine dollars.
Get it in a neutral color.
It's just sort of easy to keep in your bag.
Speaker 3Yeah, I think a cardigan is like a key piece and everyone's word.
I think I mentioned this in a previous episode, but even when it's summer, it's hard to find outerwear that works during the summertime that you can easily carry around that you're not just holding the entire day.
A cardigan is an easy one to roll up and throw on and not have it be too heavy.
Speaker 2I'm the same love a cardigan.
Speaker 3I've also found a like a sweater vest can be really good as well, depending on what out for you're wearing.
Speaker 2But if you find.
Speaker 3It gets a little bit cold in the office, it's a nice one to throw on where your arms are still kind of exposed.
Too hot, but I can attest to like freezing cold temperatures here in the mom and me off it gets so cold.
It doesn't matter if it's like thirty five degrees outside, it's always frozing.
So my biggest tip from experience is to wear closed toed shoes just because if your feet are cold, doesn't matter how many layers I'm wearing, I'm going to be cold, so I typically try to opt for yeah, like a closed tel, like a loafer if you look a ballet flat, something where like my toes are warm.
Speaker 1Or even just like eving a blanket at the office, I have a pobula.
Speaker 3I have a blanket on where like I'll throw it over my legs fund a skirt or something that's a So the commute during the summer, it can be so hard, especially if you're wearing nice corporate wear like a tailored pant linen that can crease easily.
Speaker 2It's tough when it's hot out.
Speaker 3So what are your tips to like keeping your clothes looking as fresh as possible when you're arrive at the office.
Speaker 1I even remember once actually sitting in a uber on the way to a meeting, and I was wearing like a silk midi, and you'd even think of that sort of material, But then I stood up and it was all crist So I get it.
I try and leave as much as possible at work.
So just for example, if I've got a linen oversized blazer or I'd have it off for the commute and have it in my hands if I can't actually leave it at work, So just resting on my laugh on the bus, just so I'm not wearing it and it's not capturing that body heat as much as possible.
But yeah, I leave a lot in the office if you can do that, whether it be having a nice blazer always on the back of your desk's chair.
Also, another way I like to think about freshening up a look is also just your personal grooming.
So like, is it just making sure that you've got you know, Deoda in the office, fix up your hair and your makeup.
Just freshen up before any meeting.
I think just can create that overall fresh, polished look.
It's not necessarily the clothes.
I also have this really good I hate ironing spray, which will include a phonot here, but it's something that I keep in my bag.
It's just it's easy to carry around if it's an oversized bag or keep in the office.
And if I do notice some things are inevitable, just say I'm wearing like a linen dress and it is all creased.
You can just spray it down and wipe it.
Speaker 2And it straightens up.
Speaker 1It straightens it out.
Speaker 2That's a tip.
Speaker 1It's from Amazon.
It's dirt cheap as well, but carrying that around really helps.
Speaker 2Yeah, love that.
Those great tips.
Speaker 3So we've spoken a little bit about kind of working in corporate environments where the dress code is a little bit more conservative, so it can be tricky to kind of inject some of your own personal style into those environments.
So what would you say is a good way to add some personality to your look without breaking the rules?
Speaker 1Yeah.
I used to work in a place it wasn't corporate.
They had really strict rules.
So it was in magazine and I guess you sort of had to dress for the mag and the brand it was.
And one of the rules was no ripped dinner, so you could wear dinner, but no ripped And I remember a girl actually wore rips like it was just the one slid across the knee and she got sent home.
That's how strict it was.
Speaker 3Wow.
Speaker 1Okay, so I understand.
I know that's not necessarily corporate dressing, but I understand like strict, it's strict, and it is if they take it quite seriously as well.
I'd think about personality through beauty.
I know it's not quite closed, but whether it be the hairstyle, the makeup, the accessories, the fragrance.
I imagine if you're em barrister walking in the court, you've got this sleep back barn and some massive Potaga Doome earrings of Potago Dome earrings, something like that, I think, or maybe it's your per little signature fragrance.
I know it's not quite fashion, but little.
I'm not saying you go with like pink hair into for your first but like think about how you can style hair and make up differently.
I also like subtle changes in silhouettes, so like a soft shoulder pat so you're still wearing a really nice tailored suit, but maybe it's like the trouser could be more barrel cut, which is in at the moment.
Speaker 3I won't have any Yeah, I had a similar thought just about like playing with shapes.
Speaker 1Yeah, design a little bit.
Speaker 3So obviously you can still stick to a more muted color palla that fits in and whatever environment that you're working in, but maybe playing with like the way the buttons are on the front construction of the jacket.
It doesn't have to be boring, like a blazer doesn't have to be very simple.
That you can have something where like you were saying, like light shoulder pads or the cut is a little bit interesting, or it nips in at the waist a little bit.
Speaker 2There's fun ways to play with shape.
Speaker 1And also like the glasses that we were talking about, like having a cool aviator style or catie or something.
Yeah, oh yeah, it's still caught professional, but you can tell she's a cool girl.
Speaker 2Yes, exactly.
Speaker 3I think there's a way to differentiate yourself as like a fashion girly without going without breaking the rules.
I think accessories are really great as well.
With shoes, you can kind of have your corporate outfit, but like a fun pop of color isn't going to be something that's shocking.
Speaker 1Yeah, or the cool heel could be like that circle the ball heel.
Well, I don't know if you could actually get away with this, but you know, Camilla remark, do those fur heel?
Yes?
Way, have you seen the balloon?
Speaker 2Yeah?
I love those?
Speaker 1Like could you maybe wear that?
I don't know, I.
Speaker 3Think you could, I think if.
I think it just depends what you stylo with.
Yeah, I think a fun pop of color or like an interesting pattern, interesting material on a shoe is totally acceptable in a corporate Yeah, okay, if you're wearing like a pantsuit.
Speaker 2Yeah, a fun right shoe I think, is I.
Speaker 1Just keep going back to a barrister walking in like a zebra heel or something like come on off.
I guess we've been looking at a few accessories in the staples that we could have, But is there one item that you think is worth splurging on for your corporate work wardrobe?
Speaker 2There are a few things.
Speaker 3So a bag, for me, having a good quality bag that I wear every single day is like priceless.
Everyone needs a good work bag.
You wear it every day, you get so much wear out of it.
Shoes, I think is another great one to really invest in.
Comfortable shoes that are good quality.
It's you, really, especially when you're commuting to and from the office, you know that you need a pair of shoes you can walk in.
Speaker 2But actually, for.
Speaker 3Me, especially when I'm wearing similar outfits on repeat in the office every day, a really good pair of tailored trousers.
Speaker 2Really goes a long way.
Speaker 3I think you can style it so many different ways and they end up being a piece that you wear daily.
So yeah, a nice pair of pants, nice material that don't crease that easily.
Speaker 2I think that's a good investment piece.
Speaker 1Yeah, I agree, Just like a piece of like a jacket or an outer wear that you will be wearing regularly, and it's almost okay to repeat, like outfit repeat, Like it's okay to have the one trench.
So maybe it is like a really nice trench, even a trend seasonal, lightweight style that'll take you through more hotter and cooler months as well.
Yeah.
I love accessories as well, and like you said, the comfort with shoes, Like you work better when you're comfortable, right.
Speaker 3Yea, even walking around the office, like, yeah, you just need a pair of shoes that fit well, that are comfortable that I'm not going to give you listens.
Yeah.
Speaker 1Yeah, think of what you need and what you'll be I guess the main takeaway is what you'll be wearing daily or be okay wearing daily, and I might.
Speaker 2Look different for everyone.
Speaker 3You know, the things that you wear the most, so then you'll really know what that is for sure.
So talking about like investing in pieces, how do people build a causual wardrobe when you're sort of on a tight budget, you don't want to spend a whole lot of money.
Speaker 2It can be tricky, it can.
Speaker 1I know we've sort of spoken about trying to experiment and explore and be experiential without dressing.
But I also think it's okay to set in the same breath.
It's okay to have a bit of a capsule wardrobe in your own style.
One of my friends owns a large Australian fashion label and she's always in black and she that's just her thing.
So I don't necessarily she looks the same every day to me, but I know she's wearing different things.
Speaker 2Yeah, that's her signature's signature thing.
Speaker 1Black a signature color.
So maybe thinking about what is your signature color or is it signature look like Mark Zuckerberg or Steve Jobs just turtle neck, yeah, and be okay with having that look and owning it.
Yeah, And I think that's all right, and that'll be it'll be more affordable.
You could just have the same couple of teas or whatnot on rotation and owning a particular style.
I think it's a nice way to have a capsule wardrobe on a tight budget.
Yeah.
Speaker 2I love that.
Speaker 1Do you have any other tips?
Speaker 2So if you're on a budget.
Speaker 3I sound like a broken record at this point, but I would just recommend thrifting.
Speaker 2Yeah, Deep Off is so good.
Speaker 3You can find so many great quality pieces from really nice brands, sometimes never.
Speaker 2Worn yeah tags on them.
Speaker 1Sure.
Speaker 3So deep Hop's a great place to start, and from there I would just focus on what you already own and build from there.
So even if I am thrifting, I'm kind of thinking about, Okay, what pants, what shoes, what tops do I usually wear to work?
Speaker 2And how can I pay new items with that?
Speaker 3And that where you're really getting the most out of what you already have and not buying pieces that are kind of overlaps.
Speaker 1Yeah, I love that.
Actually this top end shoes were from Vinnie's.
They were drifted and you could definitely wear this the office.
Speaker 2That's a great up it.
Speaker 1This top was it's poka dot for anyone listening, it's a black and white polka dot.
Definitely wear it in the office.
I think it was like twelve dollars, so so yeah, Vinnie's depaive obsessed.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Love.
Secondhand shopping is so good, especially these days.
Speaker 3I feel like there's just in Australia, there's becoming more and more volume where people are donating their clothes and people are selling things secondhand.
So the market's just growing and going, yeah.
Speaker 1It's very expensive.
How mud are these.
Speaker 2Let's get into Foujian budget.
Speaker 1Yeah, my favorite.
Speaker 2Do you want to start with your budget?
Speaker 1Yeah, I could do that.
So at the top of the episode, I spoke about how I love the short sleeve blazer and even with shorts as well.
There's a realer.
Speaker 2Isn't it such a cool goal look, isn't it?
Speaker 1I love it and it's like oversize, so it's really comfortable.
I found a really nice one from Portman's.
The shorts is seventy one dollars and the blazers ninety five.
So yes, it's called the Summer Breeze Shorts and Short Sleeve Blazer.
Few different colors as well, but yeah, it's just it's a nice, affordable, full look that you can wear as separates as well.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah, I love that.
Speaker 1It's your budget mine.
Speaker 3We've spoken about bagoof yeah, so I'm going to recommend it.
So I only recently bought my leopard print one and I've literally worn it every day for the last few months, So highly recommend.
I would recommend the nylon should bag, which is one that I have but in dove, which is kind of this like light gray color, which I think is a little bit more versatile, which is one I do think I need to invest in just because leopardren is great, but it doesn't go every single out of it.
I love it, but I think having a neutral.
Speaker 1Color for a work is a good price anyone.
Speaker 2That's crazy for something you wear every day, something you can wash.
Speaker 1I yeah, love it.
And what's your bougieach else?
Speaker 3So my bougie is a boxy rat blazer from Franky Shop.
Speaker 1Oh cool, love that brand.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's really cool, such.
Speaker 3As interesting things in terms of shape, and we were talking earlier about kind of playing with shape and construction and things like that to really elevate your wardrobe, especially when you're working in corporate.
So this one is a fun one.
That's it's still professional.
You can wear it in a lot of professional environments, but the shape of it makes it a little bit more.
Speaker 2Cool girl, a little bit more yeah cool.
Speaker 1It's like if you know, you know, yes exactly.
Speaker 3It's a four hundred and thirty dollars, so it is pricey.
But again talking about investing, I think outerwear is kind of where it's at.
Speaker 2If you're going to be wearing that pizza lot.
Speaker 1For sure that's not too bad for outerwear.
Speaker 2Yeah, I agree, Yeah, yeah, what's your what is your bougie?
Speaker 1So my bougie is a different price point for the short sleeve blazer.
So looking at the Portman's I'm now looking at a Camilla and Mark option for my bougie.
It's six hundred and fifty dollars.
It's called the Elder Blazer in light gray mile Love.
So it also has a matching trouser, and even on the website it's styled with like a really fun shoe, like one of those fur Camilo Marks shoes, sort of what we're saying, how you can go with classic suit.
This one isn't as shoulder pad cool girl oversized.
It is a little bit more polished and tailored, which might be more suited for someone in like a higher corporate role or more street dress code.
But it's just a really beautiful color that I love.
So yeah, that would be mine.
Speaker 3Love that Camilla Mark has some like amazing like blazers and outerwear, and I.
Speaker 2Love that it comes with a pant.
Speaker 3I've learned now that if you find a suit jacket and it comes with the matching pad, always get the matching pad.
Speaker 1Yeah, even if you don't need it at just.
Speaker 3So you have the option to pair it.
You can always separate them, separate them and wear them.
Speaker 1I love it.
It's so true that I love that one.
Speaker 2So that's all we have time for today.
