Hey, I'm John Green, author of The Faultner Stars, and now I guess the co host of The Away End, a brand new world soccer podcast with my friend of thirty three years, Daniel Larcone him.
Speaker 2Hey man, I'm Danielle Alerconne, a writer and journalist, and John and I have known each other since we were kids.
My first World Cup was Mexico eighty six.
Speaker 3I was nine years old.
Speaker 2I watched every game, and I fell in love.
Every four years since when a new edition of the world's most popular sporting event begins, I'm nine years old all over again.
Speaker 3For US soccer football.
Speaker 1It's a game that we've loved together since Daniel was the star of our high school soccer team and I was the ultra the only hardcore fan of that team.
Speaker 2The only part of that sentence is true, and it's the part about John being the fan.
He carried us that season, and we've both been in love with the game basically all of our lives.
Speaker 3And here we are starting a podcast.
What's it about, John, It's.
Speaker 1About world football, and it's there to get us ready for the twenty twenty six World Cup, where we will again, as Daniel likes to say, be the same age that we were during our first World Cup in nineteen eighty six.
I love this game.
I love its history, it's hope, it's heartbreak, and above all, its beauty.
Speaker 2So on the Away End, our brand new podcast will be talking about the games, the teams, the players, and all things that make this sporting event iconic and special and something that we measure time by.
And together we'll find out why of all the unimportant things, football soccer is the most important.
Speaker 3Listen to The Away End with Daniel L.
Speaker 1Raccone and John Green starting on January twenty first, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
