[SPEAKER_04]: Hey everybody, this is Matthew Soltisiac, and you're listening to not the same old Lions podcast, part of the minute media podcast network.

[SPEAKER_04]: I speak with a variety of guests and interview key players, gaining more insight on what makes this team go.

[SPEAKER_04]: Welcome to another episode.

[SPEAKER_04]: In this episode, we previewed the Detroit Lions Sunday night football matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.

[SPEAKER_04]: First, we'll hit on major storylines since the Lions' last victory.

[SPEAKER_04]: Then we'll take a closer look at the Chiefs.

[SPEAKER_04]: This includes hearing from a reporter who covers Kansas City, plus we'll share insights of our own.

[SPEAKER_04]: That and more, let's get to a Lions fans.

[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, this is Cory Sluster with the Detroit Lions, and you're listening to not the same old Lions podcast.

[SPEAKER_04]: Joining me today is Coach Jerry Angels former Michigan high school coach of the year is also named coach of the week by the Detroit Lions.

[SPEAKER_04]: He is a scouting and training director for bull rush sports coach the season keeps moving and here we are again good to have you here.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, glad to be here especially talking about Detroit sports go Tigers.

[SPEAKER_04]: there we go join in both of us to talk to Troy sports be at Lions or Tigers is the senior sports writer for the Traverse City record Eagle that is the sports writer of the year for community newspaper holdings incorporated James Cook James good to have you here too.

[SPEAKER_04]: You go.

[SPEAKER_04]: If that adrenaline doesn't keep you up and get you excited in the morning, you know what else might roaster jack coffee.

[SPEAKER_04]: The roaster jack coffee company is out of Traverse City, Michigan, and folks in 1999 they have been roasting premium beans from small farms around the world.

[SPEAKER_04]: They are fresh to order just for you and the only thing better I hear than great coffee is great coffee with a discount.

[SPEAKER_04]: If you visit roasterjack.com and you use the code lions, you get 20% off [SPEAKER_04]: Roaster Jack coffee company, be a hero, brew great coffee and go liens.

[SPEAKER_04]: Okay guys, last week's win, kind of a weird feeling for a lot of people, a lot of us couldn't just wait to get out of that game, but there's a lot today's text from that game is a few more things to touch on from that, and then some things that have taken place since that game, but first, we gotta talk about Terian Arnold coach, because he's gotten a lot of flag this year, and some of it, you know, that there is some deserved criticism, I'm not saying there's not, [SPEAKER_04]: But I almost feel like, you know, we talked about it last show.

[SPEAKER_04]: It might be overblown.

[SPEAKER_04]: And there was a big stat that you and I chatted about after the show last week about Tyrion Arnold in that Bangles game.

[SPEAKER_04]: You want to talk about that?

[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I mean, just the numbers.

[SPEAKER_03]: Look at the numbers from when he was in and when he wasn't in.

[SPEAKER_03]: Look at the completions when he was in and when he wasn't in.

[SPEAKER_03]: Again, everybody is biting on these five yard penalty that he has.

[SPEAKER_03]: But you know, the guy's a baller.

[SPEAKER_03]: What would we give up 21 points when he was in on the field [SPEAKER_03]: that's exactly it right no touchdown when he was on the field twenty one after he left the game yeah and i just i don't understand why they're attacking this guy this guy is a true and true lines of lions player uh...

you know i saw thing today you know between between the injury and him playing over it and in between some issues at home with within this family [SPEAKER_03]: You know, and it's the guy the guy's ball on out for us and God leave alone.

[SPEAKER_03]: It's just, it's just, it's really frustrating.

[SPEAKER_03]: And it's, and you, I think James may have talked about it when he guys may have talked about, the comparison between him and, uh, uh, Snaid who, who the, who the, uh, [SPEAKER_03]: Chiefs got rid of a couple year or you know a lot of mock couple years ago, you know, let's look at all their their pff scores if you want to go or next gen scores and and I know it's as good as any of them so leave me alone he's the second year player wish a walk.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, again, I see a player that still has a lot of room to grow.

[SPEAKER_04]: We've made a lot of mistakes for sure.

[SPEAKER_04]: But I also think sometimes, you get to look at the whole body of work.

[SPEAKER_04]: And sometimes, we're only just looking at the highlights or the lowlights on TV.

[SPEAKER_04]: James and then you want to throw in there about Terry and we'll get a little bit more of his status later.

[SPEAKER_04]: But any thoughts on his play?

[SPEAKER_02]: pretty much just what Jerry said, you know, and kind of the same with Mono too, people are just bagging on him after, you know, because he had a couple of bad reps against one of the best defensive ends in the NFL.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, do we not expect Taylor Dekker to get beat a couple of times?

[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's pretty much surely he would have had he played, you know, so I mean, was my only who didn't add disastrous?

[SPEAKER_02]: No, was he great?

[SPEAKER_02]: No.

[SPEAKER_02]: It was hate-rallage.

[SPEAKER_02]: Great in his first game?

[SPEAKER_02]: No.

[SPEAKER_02]: And look at him just a few games later.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so I think it kind of the same thing with my body.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think people expect a little bit too much as some of these these young draft picks.

[SPEAKER_02]: And if they they aren't a proble player on day one or [SPEAKER_04]: Well, in Mono, I think, you know, the lions weren't expecting to have to use him this quickly, this soon.

[SPEAKER_04]: I think they wanted him next year.

[SPEAKER_04]: And that said, I think, you know, Coach is already, and it talked about something off air here.

[SPEAKER_04]: I think there's a game plan where you're going to see Mono get a little extra help this next week, and what we're going to get into that, we think that's going to make a big different down the offensive line, all three of us have kind of talked about that.

[SPEAKER_04]: Before we get to that, James, you got something else about the offense that's kind of made the rounds on social media.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the folks that were kind of questioning whether John Morton and the whole changing the coordinators.

[SPEAKER_02]: The Lions have scored the most points in franchise history through five weeks this year, more than any other team in Lions history, including the Ben Johnson ones.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, so much for those worries about John Morton.

[SPEAKER_04]: that is crazy.

[SPEAKER_04]: I did see that stat and the lions last year with 564 points with the fourth most point scored by a team in NFL history.

[SPEAKER_04]: And they said this current squad is actually on pace for second place I believe right now.

[SPEAKER_04]: The current record is 666 points.

[SPEAKER_04]: Peyton Manning, the 2013 Denver Broncos.

[SPEAKER_04]: Second, Tom Brady in the 2007 Patriots had 589.

[SPEAKER_04]: Now those were both in 16 game seasons, of course, but this would put the Get Lions on pace for just ahead of that.

[SPEAKER_04]: Now James coach hates it when we talk about these type of stats because they are so meaningless.

[SPEAKER_04]: So I've got to bring this home.

[SPEAKER_04]: There's a good thing and a bad thing about these stats.

[SPEAKER_04]: The good thing is both of those teams, the Manning and Brady teams, [SPEAKER_04]: They made the Super Bowl, and Manning or Brady's team went undefeated, but that also tells you what's coming next, both teams lost the Super Bowl.

[SPEAKER_04]: And could some people tell you, defense wins, what coach?

[SPEAKER_04]: Dammit, chips.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, but Dan Campbell will tell you complementary football wins championships, and that's what these Detroit lions are built on.

[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know what, there's going to be days, your offense isn't beautiful, but the whole team together might just pull something off.

[SPEAKER_04]: So, that's the spin I'm going on with this one coach.

[SPEAKER_04]: You got anything you want to weigh in on that with?

[SPEAKER_03]: No, and you know what I, and I love the sprint and that's all good stuff because the defense, especially teams in the offense is got the matter of each other, you know, the other thing too is we talked about this people are, you know, keep saying, well, lines up beat anybody.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that mean the team of the winning record, the point is the good teams beat.

[SPEAKER_03]: the teams, they are supposed to beat handily.

[SPEAKER_03]: And that's what the lines are doing.

[SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, they're gonna stumble guys or us to the sheer, they're probably gonna lose a gamer too.

[SPEAKER_03]: If they don't, oh my god, look out.

[SPEAKER_03]: But Brady was 17 and all.

[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't get him and didn't get him a Super Bowl victory.

[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm sure the lines will take a couple of those losses with a grain of salt and just get them.

[SPEAKER_03]: Bye.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, yeah, and you know, hey, the lines have a real tough schedule this year, we're foreign one though.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we haven't beat a team with a winning record, technically we haven't played a team with a winning record.

[SPEAKER_04]: And so that's even crazier at this point.

[SPEAKER_04]: James, you got some other insights, maybe some stuff about Patrick Mahomes.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, the chiefs haven't been anybody who didn't record either, you know, and everybody is talking about them out there the back one of the best teams and and we, you know, give them their their due they are very, very good team for being two and three they are they are an excellent opponent.

[SPEAKER_02]: But you know, yeah, I think Patrick Holmes, my home's actually kind of watch out because the Honolulu flu is rapidly spreading deposing quarterbacks because Lamar Jackson got hurt the week after he played the lions.

[SPEAKER_02]: Joe Flacco got benched by Cleveland the week after he played the lions and Jake Browning got benched the week after he played the lions and then Joe Flacco got traded to the Bengals.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, yeah, and that's the big thing right there speaking of Joe Flacco, all right.

[SPEAKER_04]: So he got traded to the Bengals.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, you don't need to get a couple of weeks ago as a Cleveland Browns quarterback.

[SPEAKER_04]: He beat the Green Bay Packers, I'm going to tell you, I'm a big Joe Flacco fan this week, because the Bengals are playing the Packers.

[SPEAKER_04]: If, and I don't know, Flacko is going to be starting that game.

[SPEAKER_04]: I would presume he is, I mean, Minnesota picked up Josh Dobs, like two days before a game.

[SPEAKER_04]: Heck, Baker Mayfield went and got silent that day before a game for the Rams and played.

[SPEAKER_04]: And if you got Joe Flacko, you're going to put him in there and just see what you can do.

[SPEAKER_04]: And if the Bengals can beat the Packers, it'll be the first time a quarterback has beaten the same team twice with two different teams.

[SPEAKER_04]: in the same season.

[SPEAKER_04]: So that would be pretty, I love that stat to happen.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we'd love to see that happen.

[SPEAKER_02]: And we talked last week about how cheap the Bengals are.

[SPEAKER_02]: I saw a photo of Joe Flacco getting on a plate, just a regular commercial flight just in an economy class with the regular people to go to Cincinnati.

[SPEAKER_04]: He's a working man's quarterback at this point in his career, man, so.

[SPEAKER_03]: He's already been labeled a start, so.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it has, all right, all right, all right.

[SPEAKER_03]: They said it's a quick question.

[SPEAKER_03]: I know this is about the lines.

[SPEAKER_03]: How good are the buffalo bills?

[SPEAKER_03]: It's pretty good.

[SPEAKER_04]: Really good.

[SPEAKER_04]: We think so.

[SPEAKER_03]: Well, they beat the right, barely beat the ravens.

[SPEAKER_03]: They beat the jats, the dolphins, and the saints, and they've lost to the Patriots.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yep, that hurt that too, sir.

[SPEAKER_03]: There's not very many good teams in the league this year, because nobody's beaten anybody with a winning record.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, well, maybe we need some more winning records out there.

[SPEAKER_04]: What happened to all these great matchups here so it's everyone in the season on the NFL schedule?

[SPEAKER_04]: These, you know, so all right.

[SPEAKER_04]: Let's turn our attention to the Lions a little bit.

[SPEAKER_04]: Let's look at the injury report and transactions.

[SPEAKER_04]: Seven guys did not practice.

[SPEAKER_04]: That would be Tyrion Artles at Cunningham, Decker Joseph Raymond, St.

[SPEAKER_04]: Brown and Valky.

[SPEAKER_04]: Branch was limited and drum roll, please.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_04]: All right.

[SPEAKER_04]: So, uh, Terri and Arnold, he did get a second opinion on the shoulder and everyone's super excited.

[SPEAKER_04]: But Coach Campbell said the day, yeah, he got a second opinion.

[SPEAKER_04]: But I'm totally like paraphrasing and reading between the lines, but it doesn't mean he's magically healed.

[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, Campbell didn't say that.

[SPEAKER_04]: But that's kind of what he was alluding to.

[SPEAKER_04]: We still don't know what the outcome's going to be.

[SPEAKER_04]: Hopefully it means he's out, you know, [SPEAKER_04]: handful of games for to six weeks, something that he comes back this season, but we still don't know that at this point.

[SPEAKER_04]: So James, what are some of your thoughts on where Terian Arnold sits and what that looks like?

[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, yeah, let's go with that.

[SPEAKER_04]: Then we'll get into the transactions.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think Campbell's terminology went from a long time to a while.

[SPEAKER_02]: a authoritarian Arnold.

[SPEAKER_02]: So a little bit of a chain, a little more optimistic, I think.

[SPEAKER_02]: I've heard people say that he could be back within a month, but nobody's saying exactly what the injury is.

[SPEAKER_02]: Supposedly, the second opinion was better than the first, as opposed to that.

[SPEAKER_02]: So they said that whatever it is, he can do some strengthening stuff to help it out and hopefully get back to the field sooner than was initially thought.

[SPEAKER_04]: All right, why don't you go through the transactions for us with a couple things took place here and then we can weigh in more Ontario and make Neil and kind of how things are looking overall for the off-intend defense.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the little lines put Khalil Dorsey on it to reserve.

[SPEAKER_02]: And then using that spot on the roster activated Dan Skipper to the 53-man roster, they also signed, because it was Skipper up from the practice squad, they signed Arthur Malay, Malette, sorry.

[SPEAKER_02]: And you even looked up Hyderprinounce it.

[SPEAKER_02]: And then I got it wrong at first time.

[SPEAKER_02]: Malette, a cornerback, who was kind of a nickel back, [SPEAKER_02]: And then they, Lions tried to sign Michael Davis, who was another veteran corner back, but the New Orleans Saints apparently offered him a guaranteed 53 man spot and he took that instead of a practice squad spot from the Lions.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, apparently that they'd offered him a practice squad spot.

[SPEAKER_04]: Then the Lions did, so then they up the Annie and raised it to a full roster spot.

[SPEAKER_04]: So, so there's some moves there, you know, bring another guy to the defensive backfield.

[SPEAKER_04]: We're expecting Rock Yassin, we're expecting Amigraubercin as the starters this week, but DorisDB and out two guys is another depth hit there, Coach.

[SPEAKER_04]: So we know that reads on IR.

[SPEAKER_04]: We don't know what's going on with Terry on yet.

[SPEAKER_04]: I would presume a trip to IR is coming for him, but again, we don't really know.

[SPEAKER_04]: We do know Doris's on IR.

[SPEAKER_04]: So they're getting a little thinner down there.

[SPEAKER_04]: What's some of your, [SPEAKER_04]: interpretation of the secondary and what it looks like right now.

[SPEAKER_03]: Well, we talked about it to be in the year.

[SPEAKER_03]: We're really deep.

[SPEAKER_03]: We're really deep turn preseason.

[SPEAKER_03]: But I think we lost four of our five top five so far.

[SPEAKER_03]: But you know, there's guys coming in and you take Nick White side for instance, you know, he had a people that we were like, he got a shot of making the team.

[SPEAKER_03]: And [SPEAKER_03]: And then they didn't, you know, they didn't sign them on a practice squad, but now he's back.

[SPEAKER_03]: So I think they're putting these, like with this mallet mallet, right?

[SPEAKER_03]: There you go.

[SPEAKER_03]: I think with getting guys like that, they're putting guys into people that they can use for practices and, you know, with with rock and in, um, [SPEAKER_03]: Excuse me in those and the depth that we have we got guys that can play corner.

[SPEAKER_03]: We got guys that can play nickel We got guys that can play safety You know, are we gonna go to I say these and things like that so I think they're just they're fit in those pieces and they get people into situations We know how many different packages they run and you know last week Who was it who and then that we just signed last week?

[SPEAKER_03]: Tray flowers, sorry, Tray flowers, another big guy, and he ended up playing, and I think they had to direct him three times to which side of the line up.

[SPEAKER_03]: So, again, that's what we do.

[SPEAKER_03]: That's the lines do next man up.

[SPEAKER_03]: I know people are tired of hearing that, but that's what it looks like.

[SPEAKER_03]: But with Maddox and Rock, I think we're in great shape.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and rock playing, getting more looks at outside defensive back is huge.

[SPEAKER_04]: And that's a name we've loaded around for a couple of years.

[SPEAKER_04]: James and I have talked about him in the past.

[SPEAKER_04]: And having him start out there, you have a guy who's played a lot of football.

[SPEAKER_04]: And that's at the in the NFL.

[SPEAKER_04]: And so what we saw from a meat rovers in down the stress last year gives you so much confidence in him.

[SPEAKER_04]: And then Maddox, another vet, you could probably [SPEAKER_04]: The depth does take a hit with all this, and there's going to be some testing, but also that's where a lean McNeil comes in.

[SPEAKER_04]: If the defensive line can get there a little bit quicker, because because you did a bunch of advanced analytics in, they're not getting, they're getting a lot of pressure, but their pressure isn't coming quite as quick as other teams pressure comes.

[SPEAKER_04]: And so that might be something that will help counteract some of that James.

[SPEAKER_04]: What do you see from the secondary indoor, maybe some things on the moving roster spots?

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if they do promote a malat to the to the raster, one thing that he does, he plays mostly kind of a nickel nickel roll, but he also is a very good blitzer from the nickel pack nickel package.

[SPEAKER_02]: And his career, he's a 32-year-old corner, you know, so he's no spring chicken.

[SPEAKER_02]: He's been around for a long time, overlapped with Dan Campbell when he was in New Orleans.

[SPEAKER_02]: But he has more Saxony's career than he has interceptions.

[SPEAKER_02]: He has more tackles for lost than he has past breakups.

[SPEAKER_02]: And he's got eight quarterback hits in addition to those things.

[SPEAKER_02]: So I could see maybe a little bit more of a kind of a mellophon type role where he blitzed a lot.

[SPEAKER_02]: Not from a safety spot, obviously, but that kind of guy.

[SPEAKER_02]: If they...

[SPEAKER_04]: All right.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, before we get to their preview, go around the division again real quick.

[SPEAKER_04]: Lions at four and one.

[SPEAKER_04]: We know they're heading to Kansas City for Sunday night football.

[SPEAKER_04]: The Packers.

[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, the Packers do have a winning record.

[SPEAKER_04]: They're two one and one.

[SPEAKER_04]: I think they were two two and one.

[SPEAKER_04]: So we have face to team.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, they didn't have a winning record when we face them though.

[SPEAKER_04]: They were zero and zero at that point.

[SPEAKER_04]: They are facing the Joe Flacco.

[SPEAKER_04]: Bangles the Vikings are on a buy this week before they get quite the schedule test a few weeks in a row and then the bears put their two-game winning streak on the line against Washington And so coach any thoughts on either of those games coming up for the division rivals or any Assessment of our division rivals at this point.

[SPEAKER_03]: No, I think you know, we're we're don't we we say we're the best division We're gonna find it out especially with the packers having a face [SPEAKER_03]: It'll be interesting, but again, we're worried about us getting one and all this week.

[SPEAKER_04]: All right, James, how about you, any thoughts on division?

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, it's a pretty tough line, match up for the bears with what Daniel's back.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think, and they're a completely different team, which Daniel's in there, you know, the Bengals are still a dangerous team.

[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see how quickly Flacco can adjust, but you know, maybe with those two wide receivers and a quarter back who's maybe a little bit better at getting on the ball.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, maybe the Bengals offense comes around and has a little [SPEAKER_04]: Well, if they have less turnover in last week, they have a chance, right?

[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, that's the other thing, too.

[SPEAKER_04]: And so, I mean, I mean, I think Joe Flackos are brilliant move for the Bengals.

[SPEAKER_04]: You've got to try something.

[SPEAKER_04]: And you probably needed to try it a week ago, but at least you got something in there now.

[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, I don't know if the spread is on that game, but I expect you to be competitive.

[SPEAKER_04]: The bears, we're learning a lot about the bears coming off the by coming off the two game wind streak, you know, and like you said against Jayden Daniels in Washington, I think we still have a lot to learn about this division yet, and we'll figure that out in the next few weeks.

[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, now it's time for our preview of the upcoming game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

[SPEAKER_04]: Here's my interview with a sports reporter from the CBS affiliate out of Kansas City.

[SPEAKER_04]: Joining me today is Sports Reporter Katie Marr, part of the KCTV 5 Sports Team out of Kansas City.

[SPEAKER_04]: Katie, thank you so much for taking the time to talk and have fun with me today.

[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for having me always happy to talk with a fellow turt.

[SPEAKER_01]: So...

[SPEAKER_04]: Awesome.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, let's let's talk about the Kansas City cheese.

[SPEAKER_04]: So sitting at two and three after they're lost to Jacksonville and I don't think that's to start anyone thought they would have record-wise when the season opened up.

[SPEAKER_04]: But each loss has only been by a single score.

[SPEAKER_04]: And so I'm not putting any stock in that early season record.

[SPEAKER_04]: They're still a talented and dangerous Kansas City chief team to me.

[SPEAKER_04]: So let's start with this big picture.

[SPEAKER_04]: How is this team different than last year?

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would say coming into this season, I felt like the only ways that they would be different were really in good ways because I feel like they really did retain most of their star power from the last few years, especially on defense, which defense has kind of become the chiefs brand in the last few years, which is really weird when you have Patrick Mahomes as your quarterback, but that has been the case in the 2022 draft class kind of changed everything.

[SPEAKER_01]: with Travis Duffy and George Carloftis and then, you know, Chris Jones always leading the way back there.

[SPEAKER_01]: But I felt like offensively they were going to take this huge jump this year, which I believe they have.

[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the 37 points they scored against a very injury- riddled Baltimore team.

[SPEAKER_01]: We could go two weeks ago, I should say now.

[SPEAKER_01]: As the most day scored since week three of 23.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I was looking at the offense and I was like, [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the receiver room, it hasn't been good.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like, my homes has one of Super Bowl with like Skymore, Michael Hartman, and like just no big name players like that once Tyre kills out of there.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I felt like the receiver room was going to make the biggest difference this year.

[SPEAKER_01]: I also felt like, um, no gray when Travis Kelsey eventually does retire.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to step up and map into that position.

[SPEAKER_01]: And he had a huge year last year.

[SPEAKER_01]: I felt like he was going to take a bigger step this year, which he [SPEAKER_01]: Um, but I really did feel like offensively the chiefs were going to be out better this year.

[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they have been for the most part, um, where she writes being out for six games, for sure, has hurt them, but already with just two weeks of Xavier worthy being back in the lineup.

[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen the offense start to click again.

[SPEAKER_01]: And yes, you know, Monday's game against the Jaguars was just undisciplined to many penalties.

[SPEAKER_01]: It just killed them.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I do think like at when they go on they turn it on to like everyone tried to write them off everyone Like national media was like the dynasties over and I was like they're out I see everywhere they're out where she writes like they're figuring things out They have a tougher start to their schedule than the second half of their schedule.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'd say so [SPEAKER_04]: All right.

[SPEAKER_04]: I think a lot of people, a lot of national media was saying the same thing about the Lions after the first game of the season.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_04]: We can relate to that a little bit.

[SPEAKER_04]: Let's start on the offensive side of the ball, though.

[SPEAKER_04]: Let's start with the offensive line, because that's kind of what makes everything go.

[SPEAKER_04]: What is the state of the Kansas City Chief's offensive line?

[SPEAKER_04]: How's that looking?

[SPEAKER_01]: much better than last year.

[SPEAKER_01]: Last year, it was like, I felt like all we were talking about was that Patrick Mahomes just running for his life.

[SPEAKER_01]: And then if you watched literally any part of the Super Bowl, Patrick Mahomes was running for his life and just about every snap.

[SPEAKER_01]: That was snapped.

[SPEAKER_01]: And I did kind of so, I did say, in the off season when it kind of came down to, we don't really have the cap space for to keep Joe Tuney.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's a little bit older, so they let him go.

[SPEAKER_01]: All pro.

[SPEAKER_01]: guard there.

[SPEAKER_01]: I knew that letting him go was going to hurt the chiefs and I do think it has, but because they brought in their first round draft pick, Josh Simmons out of Ohio State, he's starting left tackle and he was the guy right away and turning camp like there were no debates.

[SPEAKER_01]: It was always him getting the first team snaps.

[SPEAKER_01]: It was there was no movement around there.

[SPEAKER_01]: So we knew pretty early on that Josh Simmons was going to be the guy at left tackle and the [SPEAKER_01]: for a franchise-left tackle for like years now.

[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like there's been a revolving door at that position to protect Patrick Mahomes' blind side.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I've been really in process of Josh Jim and so far, actually.

[SPEAKER_01]: If you remember in the Chiefs Eagles game, when the pick, [SPEAKER_01]: in Charles Kelsey's hands goes into the hands of the Eagles Defender because the lowback that's a pic six if Josh Simmons doesn't run all the way across the field and tackle the guy out of bounds when no one else could.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I've been really impressed with the rookie so far.

[SPEAKER_01]: Kingsley Swamatea, he's an at-left guard, where Joe Tune used to be and Joe Tune was kind of the only reason why the chiefs even went to the Super Bowl last year in my opinion because he was able to step in the left tackle position [SPEAKER_01]: I think that Kingsley has done, okay.

[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he was supposed to come in at left tackle last year.

[SPEAKER_01]: That was supposed to be the guy, and then it just wasn't working.

[SPEAKER_01]: So they've been trying and left guard this year, and that's been his spot all along, and I think it could be a lot worse.

[SPEAKER_01]: It could be a little bit better, but I think he's done a decent job so far.

[SPEAKER_01]: They've got franchise center in Creed Humphrey, franchise right guard in Chery Smith.

[SPEAKER_01]: The right tackle position, it was a little shaky to start.

[SPEAKER_01]: with Joanne Taylor getting how many fall starts a game.

[SPEAKER_01]: He had his first clean game in the season with no fall starts against the Ravens and continued to also play well against Jaguar as I felt like so.

[SPEAKER_01]: The great tackle position was a little, but it seems like it's getting better and they acknowledge like, like Mad and Aggie offensive coordinator was like, yeah, the fall starts are a problem and we've got to fix that.

[SPEAKER_01]: So no one was shy about that.

[SPEAKER_01]: They've all acknowledged like [SPEAKER_01]: The offensive line, it's continuing to improve like it's not a finished product by any means, but like even Patrick Mahomes has said, he feels like he has more time back there.

[SPEAKER_01]: He has that extra second to find a guy all the way down the field.

[SPEAKER_01]: So much better than it was last year, which is all we could really ask for at this point.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, and I mean, giving Patrick Mahomes more time, and it's just a very thought to any defense out there.

[SPEAKER_04]: More than that helps the offense or helps Patrick is a running game that the chiefs are a top 10 team in rushing in the league.

[SPEAKER_04]: And they've got cream hunt and Isaiah Pacheco, but if you look at the stats, the confusing thing is Patrick Mahomes is the team's leading rush or the 190 yards.

[SPEAKER_04]: So tell me what's going on there, is it designed stuff?

[SPEAKER_04]: Is it just simply Patrick's making that happen though?

[SPEAKER_01]: They've had some sort of who getting their own game established this year.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's been a talking point.

[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's been a little bit better the last two, three weeks.

[SPEAKER_01]: Um, the first two weeks in the season it was pretty rough, like I say a pechette going to create a pun or come binding for about 35 yards.

[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and then patch them home to his, he led the game and rushing, he let the team and rushing yards in the Super Bowl again, see goals and then he let the team and rushing yards week one and week two.

[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so after a week two, we were like Patrick Holmes has been the team's leading Russia since the Super Bowl.

[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and I think it's kind of half and half.

[SPEAKER_01]: Um, some of them, I don't really think you ever design Patrick Mahomes to run, that's just kind of when he does his Mahomes magic because he's scrambling and he's [SPEAKER_01]: You know, just run all over and kind of doing his thing and trusting his intuition, which is what makes in Patrick Mahomes.

[SPEAKER_01]: So, I mean, Patrick Mahomes can use his leg, but first things first, like, they don't want him to, because it's not, he's not the more Jackson, and the chiefs know that when they're designing this scheme.

[SPEAKER_01]: So, getting the run game established, kind of also goes back to the continually involving offensive line where, as I said, they're not there yet, but they're getting there.

[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, we know Isaiah Pacheco can run, [SPEAKER_01]: We've seen more flashes of that in the last two or three weeks, so it's can it's improving, it's a lot better than it was week one, but they still got a long ways to go, which it's it's strange, but at the same time when you think of where the offensive line was to kind of where they are now kind of makes sense, but yeah.

[SPEAKER_04]: All right.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, let's hit on the passing game then, which is something you've already alluded to.

[SPEAKER_04]: You know, worthy was hurt out for a couple of games, but he's back.

[SPEAKER_04]: And there's just really seems even with one of the receivers missing.

[SPEAKER_04]: There seems to be a good number of options for Mahomes to throw to it.

[SPEAKER_04]: It's not just Travis Kelsey and nobody else, which is what it seemed to be like for a few years.

[SPEAKER_04]: What are we making on the wider receiver and tight end group when you combine everything together right now?

[SPEAKER_04]: It seems like this may be his best [SPEAKER_04]: assortment of options he's had there in a while.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this is definitely his best assortment of options since I would say the Legion of Zoom was in Kansas City and I wasn't even covering the Chiefs at that time.

[SPEAKER_01]: I was in college when that was the thing.

[SPEAKER_01]: I was watching the Super Bowl as like a sophomore in college watching the Chiefs win with that.

[SPEAKER_01]: There was a lot of talking training camp this year of like this receiver room is really, really fast, an Xavier worthy, [SPEAKER_01]: record breaking for your dash time when he before he was a rookie so everyone's excited about him and then Hollywood Brown he's also known for his speed and we're she rises fast too and then they've also brought him type one for in last year kind of kept him around and then fully brought him onto the team of practice squad all us stuff so type one for and actually even though he's new this year he's not new to Kansas City because he was here last season.

[SPEAKER_01]: learning the system.

[SPEAKER_01]: So he was able to jump in really quickly in training camp and we saw those early flashes of the deep pulse down the field to type on the organ.

[SPEAKER_01]: So we kind of knew that he was going to be a guy that if...

[SPEAKER_01]: the resurgence of the deep ball was going to happen.

[SPEAKER_01]: It was going to be a lot of things the type on the organ.

[SPEAKER_01]: And that's definitely happened so far.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's been, he's been coming in clutch with a lot of big blades down field.

[SPEAKER_01]: But this is certainly the best wide receiver in the patch of the home that's had in a hot minute.

[SPEAKER_01]: And again, that's because of the chiefs in you know, in 2020, they decide, okay, let's revamp our focus to be a little more sound defensively [SPEAKER_01]: kind of just waiting for those more talented weapons to come in.

[SPEAKER_01]: They were hurt last year with Rishi Rice being out for the season.

[SPEAKER_01]: They're hurt right now of them being out for six games.

[SPEAKER_01]: Xavier Worthy has a rookie like had a lot of pressure on him last year, I think.

[SPEAKER_01]: And he showed a lot of really good flashes at the end of the season.

[SPEAKER_01]: And then he's kind of been able to just pick up right where he left off with coming back in and just opening up the offense so much.

[SPEAKER_01]: But [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, all the guys said, like, one, six, eight, it really was back on the field with them.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it just opens everything up, because these are all the way down field.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like, okay, my homes can find Kelsey, because then they can't triple team Kelsey.

[SPEAKER_01]: Which is what was happening for a while when he was kind of his only target that could catch a football.

[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, it's much better this year.

[SPEAKER_01]: I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, [SPEAKER_01]: Um, when they were practicing for a life without Rishi Rice because they've kind of figured Rishi Rice was gonna face this suspension.

[SPEAKER_01]: They just didn't know it yet during turning camp.

[SPEAKER_01]: Um, we saw Jennifer Girls out there with the first teamers getting a lot of those slots, um, throws that wouldn't you imagine are going to Rishi Rice typically.

[SPEAKER_01]: So, um, the little surprise that we haven't seen him use to more.

[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but then another rookie that's come in is Rashart Smith out of SMU, um, he's been a really good pass catcher, which he comes in as a running back, but he's been a really good threat come out of the backfield to catch the football.

[SPEAKER_01]: So the offense is clicking.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's got ways to go and they in the teaming all edges that, um, it's, it's much more enjoyable to watch than it has been the last like two years, I'd say.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, and in Tyquan Thornton might be a name that most lions fans and not people weren't familiar with.

[SPEAKER_04]: He's like fourth on the team in receptions behind juju Smith's shoestor, but he's averaging more than 20.

[SPEAKER_01]: Shoestor, yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: Right, the new match.

[SPEAKER_01]: We're liable.

[SPEAKER_04]: But Thorin's averaging more than 20 yards of catch, that's Jamison Williams territory.

[SPEAKER_04]: Lions fans know all about that with big plays.

[SPEAKER_04]: And so, you know, that, I guess, is another X-Factor is being able to have the deep ball still there again, because remember how dangerous it was when Tyre Kille was back there, not the same speed, but still a deep threat in Thorin.

[SPEAKER_04]: That's probably opening things up for the tight ends more as well.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.

[SPEAKER_01]: And that's always good for Travis Kelsey, especially as he's in the later years of his career.

[SPEAKER_01]: And then I mentioned Noah Gray earlier, but I mean, I've taken Noah Gray in my dynasty fantasy league because I'm planning for the future where he becomes Titan one after Kelsey eventually retired is like, Noah Gray showed a really awesome, awesome flashes.

[SPEAKER_01]: He frequently led the team in receptions last season.

[SPEAKER_01]: So he's [SPEAKER_01]: We're getting, like, have a breakout game this season, you know?

[SPEAKER_04]: All right.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, let's jump over the defensive side, then a top 10 passing defense, the rush defense, not quite as, you know, prestigiously ranked right now.

[SPEAKER_04]: They're around the middle of the pack.

[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe just below the middle.

[SPEAKER_04]: Do those numbers accurately describe the way this defense looks to you when you see another play.

[SPEAKER_01]: When it comes to the run defense, I would typically achieve sort of pre-solid in their run defense.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I have that probably just, I mean, [SPEAKER_01]: They've got three loss and so far, so that definitely has something to do with it.

[SPEAKER_01]: But typically, I mean, Steve Spagnolo was a defensive mastermind, and when it comes to safeties and defensive backs, like, I think back to when Chiefs traded away with Jerry Sneed and everyone was like, oh my god, like he's the best cornwreck in the league, like, what are they doing?

[SPEAKER_01]: And then I was just like, they must be so confident that [SPEAKER_01]: And he absolutely has been that next guy, and if you watch the game against the Jaguars, he got a pick, he had a crazy good pass break up.

[SPEAKER_01]: And quarterback's have just learned, don't throw the ball if trying to duck, he's guarding your guy because you guys are not going to catch it, trying to duck, he's on him.

[SPEAKER_01]: He's really stepped up as you know an all-pro type guy and he's only in his third year in the week So yeah the chiefs they have like I said flip that script from being so strong offensively years ago to now They're like this defense first team I it's very rare for the chiefs to give up more than 20 points a game and very often when the offense was lagging it was like [SPEAKER_01]: Well, okay, at least our defense only allowed 14 points though.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's okay, but then that's not going to be the case all the time.

[SPEAKER_01]: They started off this season with a really poor week one performance and it kind of just kicked them in the butt.

[SPEAKER_01]: I was talking to a George Carl office in the locker room when we could be able to really last week and I just said like, you know, coming off is really great.

[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Baltimore was one of the top, if not, these top off ends in the league coming into that week four day and they held them in 20 points.

[SPEAKER_01]: What did it take for this team to kind of just get back down to business and get back to who you've been in the last few years and it was all he'd they all just said you know it's the coaching staff they've really strong culture and Steve's been no long knows what he's doing so he runs a tight ship and even the rookies it doesn't take very long for them to buy in to that mentality.

[SPEAKER_04]: All right, and Carl Aftas, you know, three and a half sacks leads to team.

[SPEAKER_04]: He is making his presence felt, yeah.

[SPEAKER_04]: Let me ask you this.

[SPEAKER_04]: What would you consider the strength to be on the defense right now?

[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to have to go back to that line and they're lying.

[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if you look at their line back in a room, like, [SPEAKER_01]: and Leo Chanel, who are some of the three best line doctors in the league, in my opinion, Nick Bolton is a guy that no one talks about in like national media, like when you think of chiefs defense, you think of Chris Jones.

[SPEAKER_01]: George Crow office is kind of starting to get those national nods, Trent McDuffie kind of a little bit, no one talks about Nick Bolin, which like he's one of the most local leaders and veteran leaders on the defense and I mean, he could have over the crazy stop to stop the Jaguar from getting touchdown on the goal line just Monday night.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I would say, but it really does start up front.

[SPEAKER_01]: having Chris Jones and George Carloftis and those guys that are up there, it starts with them and the trenches and they know that and they have a lot of pride in that.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I would say it starts there because also when it comes to the secondary there were some question marks coming in this season.

[SPEAKER_01]: Um, with the letting go of Justin Reed, who wasn't that their big vocal leader in that, in that secondary.

[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so in Chomic Duffy, say, you know, that's kind of on me now to step up and do that.

[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, Trimic Duffy and Brian Cook are definitely folding it up back there.

[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I think the secondary has, it could have been, they're going to start this season a lot worse.

[SPEAKER_01]: So I've actually been quite impressed that they have sort of the season as one of the best passing defenses in the, in the, in the lake.

[SPEAKER_04]: All right.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, let me ask you this.

[SPEAKER_04]: We've talked about all elements of the team.

[SPEAKER_04]: We didn't mention special teams, but if there's somebody you want to throw in there, you can.

[SPEAKER_04]: What do you think is the most vulnerable position?

[SPEAKER_04]: Because this team seemed very good still as I have for many years in a row.

[SPEAKER_04]: What areas can the city the most vulnerable you think?

[SPEAKER_01]: I would go back to the run game.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's improved in the last few weeks, but not nearly enough for me to feel comfortable and their ability to run the ball down the field.

[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they can get within the five-yard line and Korean hunt can find the ends on the super easily.

[SPEAKER_01]: But it's a matter of getting down the field, like they need to get the yards per carry average up.

[SPEAKER_01]: Isaiah Pacheco and Korean hunt, it starts with them.

[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is like a past heavy offense because they have Patrick Mahomes, of course, when they don't have, you know, one of the, they don't have a safe one, Barclay, one of the top running backs and the league back there, but they still do have two very good running backs.

[SPEAKER_01]: For me, that's been the weakness.

[SPEAKER_01]: I would say the biggest weakness with the team right now is just the fact that, I mean, you got to run the football in the game of football.

[SPEAKER_01]: So they figured out, but they know it's an issue.

[SPEAKER_01]: So they're working on it, I guess.

[SPEAKER_04]: All right.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, if Kansas City is going to win this game against Alliance, what is Kansas City going to have to do to make that happen?

[SPEAKER_01]: Just bounce back.

[SPEAKER_01]: I think from from this loss on the road, which I mean, Casey gets to play at home, which is they always have a bit of a home full advantage that I all had a lot of stadium in the NFL.

[SPEAKER_01]: I think just.

[SPEAKER_01]: Not letting this shake them and get back to playing discipline and football because I mean the penalties against the Jaguars just just can't happen and especially when you have a future Hall of Fame coach like Andy read at the helm and [SPEAKER_01]: usually a pretty disciplined team.

[SPEAKER_01]: There were just a lot of issues on special teams as well.

[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they had a 64-yard kick return that got taken back because of a block in the back by Jack Copper and then he had another penalty player in the game as well.

[SPEAKER_01]: Harrison Bucker is some people are calling for cut butter.

[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I don't think we should be at that point just yet and think he's just, and a big special team winner Dave Tobis also admitted like, yeah, he's having some issues right now, um, mental, you know, mental, whatever that is.

[SPEAKER_01]: It happens with kickers.

[SPEAKER_01]: He just got to get out of that.

[SPEAKER_01]: Um, he always says that Bucker has a really good next kick-up mentality, um, so just washing the last kick as soon as it happened, but they've special teams, I think definitely has some stuff to figure out there, which hasn't always been the case there, so it's a, well, we're helping, maybe just one game and just venture mishaps all over the field, um, [SPEAKER_01]: But really, I think it just is shaking this loss.

[SPEAKER_01]: I maybe it was, oh, they won two straight games after starting out into.

[SPEAKER_01]: They came into confident, got up to a really good start in the game, being up 14 nothing.

[SPEAKER_01]: You never know.

[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, obviously, I'm not on the sideline, I don't hear what's going on.

[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and they're in their team puddles and the locker room and all that, um, I think it really just comes down to bouncing back.

[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and when it comes to the lines, I mean, they know the lines are one of the best teams in a fellow, just like them, they both have been that in the last few years.

[SPEAKER_01]: I honestly thought last year the Super Bowl was going to be.

[SPEAKER_01]: Chiefs and lions, I tweeted that out before the start of the season and that age poorly dang it, but you know, rarely does a quote like that age, well, it's tough.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but like I like I said, I [SPEAKER_01]: I think this can be a really good game, as well, being in prime time, Patrick Rehomes, typically plays really well in prime times, he's 17 and 2, I believe in prime time games, or is that funny if it will games, saw that staff somewhere, but he typically plays well, I think they're going to be a little bit angry, and that's probably a good thing, because it's probably what powered them to getting a week three and then eventually a week four wins.

[SPEAKER_01]: So, it's going to be a really good game, and I'm super excited for it.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, good if you're a Kansas City fan that they're angry, but yeah, they are one and a half point, underdogs coming into this game.

[SPEAKER_04]: If the Lions are going to leave Arrow had with a win, what did the Detroit Lions need to do in order to be successful in this game?

[SPEAKER_01]: I think they've got to just come in offensively strong because the chief's defense really just does have that mindset about them.

[SPEAKER_01]: Like if we just don't let more than [SPEAKER_01]: 20 points get on the board.

[SPEAKER_01]: We're probably going to win this game, so I think it'll come down to how well the offense can operate for the Lions, but that's not to say that they don't have strong defense too.

[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, they do.

[SPEAKER_01]: They've been known for that for the last few years and the homes and the guys are going to know that.

[SPEAKER_01]: So the Lions are going to come in and upset everybody at Arrowhead.

[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's just going to come down again the best of the defense, which isn't easy to do, but as we know, it's very possible.

[SPEAKER_01]: So [SPEAKER_04]: All right, Katie, any predictions, any final thoughts?

[SPEAKER_04]: I think I have an answer that you'd like to share.

[SPEAKER_01]: Ooh, I guess my good score prediction.

[SPEAKER_04]: If you want to, any predictions, any sort.

[SPEAKER_01]: All right, I think the Chiefs get a bounce back win, but I think it's going to be very close.

[SPEAKER_01]: So these are me three point game.

[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go somewhere around like 30 to 27 chiefs.

[SPEAKER_01]: I think it'll be decided by a field goal.

[SPEAKER_04]: And so you think Butkers gonna get those mental things worked out and possibly come through on something.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_01]: And I think, honestly, a lot of times, the field goals, he's okay.

[SPEAKER_01]: It's the extra points that he's messing up.

[SPEAKER_04]: We've said a few times in the NFL this year.

[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, awesome.

[SPEAKER_04]: Katie, thank you so much for your insights on the Kansas situation taking the time to talk about NFL football with me as we lead up to the Detroit Lions Kansas City Sunday night football game.

[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for having me on excited for the game.

[SPEAKER_04]: Again, that was Sports Reporter Katie Mar, part of the KCTV 5 Sports Team at a Kansas City with all those insights.

[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, guys, now it's our turn.

[SPEAKER_04]: What are we going to make out of this Kansas City Chiefs team so far?

[SPEAKER_04]: Let's start on offense, guys.

[SPEAKER_04]: The Chiefs have solid-rushed numbers, but as I brought up my interview with Katie, it's somewhat unorthodox in how they get to those numbers.

[SPEAKER_04]: So James, well, you started off telling us what you found about that, and then I want to hear Coach talk a little bit about it as well.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Patrick Mahomes was their leading Russia last week and actually both quarterbacks were the leading Russians for their team in that game, Trevor Lawrence led the Jags to.

[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, that sounds bad, you know, when your quarterback is your leading Russia, and isn't a guy like Lamar Jackson or, you know, that it runs a lot.

[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, oddly, they ran for 7.2 yards a game or a carry last week, but they only ran at 22 times.

[SPEAKER_02]: They were running at that effectively and only ran at 22 times, 6 of which were from the home.

[SPEAKER_02]: So really, only 16 designed run plays in the whole game and they ran 60 some plays.

[SPEAKER_02]: So it's kind of oddly, the run game is oddly productive, you know, people, especially [SPEAKER_02]: uh...

i have got him on a team or two and uh...

like come on but let's get this going uh...

but i mean him and create a hunt only he had seven carries last week as a viewer worthy head one and a reverse and uh...

rookie brishard smith head one um...

[SPEAKER_02]: So it is, it is of note that those three running backs had seven catches between them, though, too.

[SPEAKER_02]: So they're adding in other ways.

[SPEAKER_02]: But Pacheco is average in 4.2 a carry this season, but has less carries than Hunt, who's only averaging 3.8.

[SPEAKER_02]: So it's just kind of odd.

[SPEAKER_02]: My home says 190 yards Hunt has 164 and Pacheco 163 for the C.

So it's kind of a three-headed monster in their run game.

[SPEAKER_02]: But it's just kind of, it's just kind of odd because everybody's been kind of bagging on the chiefs for having this anemic run game and it's really not.

[SPEAKER_02]: They just don't use as much as people would like.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, Coach, what do you see in out of the the chiefs often starting with the running side and then if you want to transition into the passing side, there's some interesting stuff going there.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, that's the thing is, you [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, those first couple games, you know, I watched, I watched the cheese, you know, as much as I can because, you know, he's kind of a fan of their quarterback and their coaching staff.

[SPEAKER_03]: And it was amazing at how much Patrick was running in those games.

[SPEAKER_03]: How much he was trying to will the win because they didn't have their wide receiver of their guys, because Pacheco wasn't getting loose.

[SPEAKER_03]: So I think that's one of the biggest things that was pretty amazing.

[SPEAKER_03]: You know, that the first touchdown they had against the Jags, [SPEAKER_03]: And on Monday night football was basically an RPL or a quarterback keep, I can't even think you look for past, but you know, I faked out inside Zone and he carried it in the end zone.

[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, they're using his legs more, you know, used to see that more in the playoff games where, you know, that's when he would turn on Lewis during the regular season games that always seemed like he was playing to win, but not to get hurt.

[SPEAKER_03]: now he's just playing the win and doesn't care if he gets hurt.

[SPEAKER_03]: So I think there's, you know, there's some interesting things there, surprising that they're, they're game, surprising their run game isn't better than it usually is, but you know, I think, you know, one of the things, [SPEAKER_03]: Let's go back to Taylor.

[SPEAKER_03]: Taylor's got seven pennies already that left tackle.

[SPEAKER_03]: I'm gonna bring that up because that's probably putting them into those more of those pass in situations where he has to look you know Look better, you know What's what we call it slow down a little bit Kelsey slow down a little bit.

[SPEAKER_03]: I saw a thing.

[SPEAKER_03]: He's only coming off the ball 11 miles an hour now we're last you know in his prime.

[SPEAKER_03]: He was coming off at 13.4 miles an hour [SPEAKER_03]: I love that stuff, you know, I mean, I can go, I can get in that all day, we talk for five hours.

[SPEAKER_03]: But anyways, but so that's just showing some of those things.

[SPEAKER_03]: He's become more of that first down guy, you know, there's, so there's some good stuff right there.

[SPEAKER_03]: But I just, I think it's the bechecos not, not getting in bechecos one of those guys, you know, that once he, if he can get his feet going, you know, when he looks like he's his feet are on fire, [SPEAKER_03]: and uh...

you know he gets an initial push he's gonna he's got to run some guys open uh...

or spit out of tackles and they don't feel but i don't think he's getting pass the line of scrimmage quick enough and he's running into a tough defense for that this week [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and you know, we talk about Patrick Mahomes.

[SPEAKER_04]: We don't have to say much about him because we know how good he is in what he does.

[SPEAKER_04]: He continues to just be the standard, the gold standard in the NFL.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, they don't have to rely as much on the run because it's not just Travis Kelsey.

[SPEAKER_04]: And if he is, in fact, a mile and a half slower than he was in the past, well, he's got some help out there, so maybe he doesn't have to carry quite so much, right?

[SPEAKER_04]: James, they've got some speed.

[SPEAKER_04]: in the wide receiving room for the Kansas City chiefs and there's a number of guys some household names and some maybe not, but this is one of the better receiving cores the chiefs have had in the last couple of years.

[SPEAKER_04]: You have to go back to probably when they had Tyrekeel to think that they had a receiving core this talented.

[SPEAKER_04]: What are you seeing out of the Kansas City chiefs receiving core right now?

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's kind of like the the packers have been the last couple of years and where you have four really good receivers and you can't tell from one week to another who's going to be the lead dog.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so it's just a matter of playing matchups and who's who's got the hot hand.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you've got Hollywood Brown as 257 yards, Tyquon Thornton 272, Kelsey 243, where they as 125, but he's missed two games and then Judre Smith shoots her 168.

[SPEAKER_02]: So they don't have that one go-to guy, especially without Rishi Rice, because he's that guy, and he'll be back next week.

[SPEAKER_02]: So luckily the Lions miss him by one week from his suspension.

[SPEAKER_02]: So you know, you go into the game with a game plan of not knowing who to concentrate on.

[SPEAKER_02]: on defense as far as the receivers.

[SPEAKER_02]: So you might be play a little bit more generic of a coverage thing because you're not like leaning your coverage to one guy the other.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's not like you're playing Justin Jefferson and you're like okay well we gotta get some kids from safety help.

[SPEAKER_02]: So it's just kind of a a little bit of a pick your poison thing not because you've got four all pros but before you because you got four good receivers who you don't know who's going to get the ball.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and so that gives them a lot of weapons to throw to out there, and it's going to probably, you know, the Lions have obviously been studying that offensive scheme, and I'm surely going to bring some very unique packages or what now we'll talk about that, because with the top two defensive backs out, that will create some challenges, before we get into what the Kansas City is going to do versus the Lions and vice versa, let's look at the chief's [SPEAKER_04]: they are actually a top 10 team against the past and middle of the road against the rush and when I spoke to the reporter out of Kansas City she said that the rush defense is actually better than those numbers describe in her opinion based on what she has seen what are you making of this this Kansas City defense overall and how difficult of a matchup well what is just what are you making of them overall [SPEAKER_03]: Well, I mean, they're a good team.

[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, let's let's talk about this.

[SPEAKER_03]: The lion's offense is fourth DV, DVOA, where the chief's defense is 15th.

[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that hurts because some of the run concept.

[SPEAKER_03]: The DVOA, I don't know if you guys know exactly what that is.

[SPEAKER_03]: It's a huge statistical data thing.

[SPEAKER_03]: But if you gain five yards on, let me just roll in an example.

[SPEAKER_03]: If you gain five yards on 1st and 10.

[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, and you gain five yards on second and five that five yards on the second and five is worth more, basically more points.

[SPEAKER_03]: So the TPOA is taken all ingredients into place.

[SPEAKER_03]: So when you talk about that, the Lions fourth and the Chiefs 15.

[SPEAKER_03]: That tells you, you know, it's a big difference right there.

[SPEAKER_03]: Um, some of the things I picked up a thing on and I'm kind of talking about Chris Jones He's a detackle, right?

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and the D.N.

[SPEAKER_03]: Charles.

[SPEAKER_03]: I was a woman.

[SPEAKER_03]: I wound up.

[SPEAKER_03]: I wound a something like that and he's he's, you know, he's a D.N.

[SPEAKER_03]: But in passing situations, they flip spots [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, because they brought and bring jokes about so anyways, the reason I'm talking about that is, you know, that may be why they're Maybe some, you know, people are seeing that doing that and maybe they're attacking more outside run concepts, you know, early downs and then more, you know, inside past concepts or later downs are chipping or whatever stuff like that.

[SPEAKER_03]: So [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's just kind of, it's kind of cool to see that, and then, you know, Carlos this and Jones, Carlos says 27 pressures and Jones has 14, that's all they have for double digit pressures this season, two guys, and Carlos, this is a frigging linebacker that's basically coming off the edge and spags defense, so, you know, spags defense is a pressure defense.

[SPEAKER_03]: multiple zones and stuff like that.

[SPEAKER_03]: So he's trying to create a turnover or if you get down to the 10-year line, he's got so much stuff coming at you're going to have a problem breaking through it.

[SPEAKER_03]: So that's kind of what I think the big thing is is it could be the change of those guys.

[SPEAKER_03]: They're lying back and [SPEAKER_03]: course is they're tough.

[SPEAKER_03]: They're good.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I was good as us.

[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to say that again, they're not as good as us, but boy, they got some trinkles of dog and those they love to hit you and both and so.

[SPEAKER_03]: But I just I think it's it could be because of that and it could because of the way Spag's concept is, too.

[SPEAKER_03]: You know, he's going to stop.

[SPEAKER_03]: He's going to stop the big play and try to cater and over and not worry about the model stuff in the middle.

[SPEAKER_04]: Alright, well, then what do we expect out of Kansas City against the Lions?

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I think the first thing we're going to expect is a very, very angry and hungry team.

[SPEAKER_04]: They're two and three right now.

[SPEAKER_04]: If they lose this game, that puts them at two and four.

[SPEAKER_04]: That will likely put them two games out of their division lead as Denver and the chargers are each three and two.

[SPEAKER_04]: If one of them win, it's a two game thing.

[SPEAKER_04]: So, and I'm sure they just have a bad taste in their mouth after everything that happened on Monday night.

[SPEAKER_04]: James, let's start with you.

[SPEAKER_04]: Then I want to hear from Coach.

[SPEAKER_04]: James, what are you expecting out of the cheese?

[SPEAKER_02]: Well, they're coming off a short week because they play on Monday night football, so that's one slight advantage that the Lions get.

[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, their defense is still very good.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's their healthier on defense than Lions are at this point.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, they have game changers on defense, like Coach mentioned, Chris Jones, Karloff just trying to make Duffy at corner.

[SPEAKER_02]: uh...

is very good and then that linebackers of a bolt and tranquil and liotional uh...

is it rivals the lion so you'd like like coach said i don't think it's better than lions but it rivals the lion's linebackers uh...

but but only call off to send and tranquil have more than one sack out of that team they're kind of like the lions to where they're getting pressures but they're not getting home and getting the sack uh...

so pretty a lot of similarities um...

you know obviously their their corners are healthier [SPEAKER_02]: But other than that, their defense is pretty darn good.

[SPEAKER_02]: Their offense is scored on 51% of their drives this season.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's scored touchdowns on 51% of their drives.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's higher than any of the last three years, which they went to the Super Bowl all three.

[SPEAKER_02]: So in their offensive line has been dynamite this season.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, they made those trades where they traded tuning to the bears and they drafted some guys and they've worked out.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, they're a formidable team, you know, for sure.

[SPEAKER_02]: The only former Lion on the team, ironically, is Brad Rick Martin, who is on their practice squad.

[SPEAKER_02]: And they did elevate him once this season for the Ravens, but he did not get any technical in that game.

[SPEAKER_04]: Be interesting to see if they elevate him this week against his former team and or if what they've asked him or what they've used with him to help prepare.

[SPEAKER_04]: coach, what do you expect in Kansas City to try and do against the lions in this game?

[SPEAKER_03]: Well here in here you know percentage wise this is I'm going to throw some percentage at you what I think they do in which I think one of these is going to tie into why the run game is is they're not doing well against run game.

[SPEAKER_03]: You know, James just said it, 38.8% of plays they generate pressure with four with a four front, which is the third highest.

[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.

[SPEAKER_03]: The chief use an aggressive approach.

[SPEAKER_03]: This is what I thought was pretty cool.

[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.

[SPEAKER_03]: Early downs, they blitz at 34.8% the seventh highest, early downs.

[SPEAKER_03]: And then with, so with their second now blitz rate of 39.7.

[SPEAKER_03]: So that's, you know, almost 40% of the time their blitzed on that second down.

[SPEAKER_03]: So is that where they're getting hit with their runs, you know, are they a concept?

[SPEAKER_03]: I'll tell you a thing I picked up because watching the jazz game the other night, I think I told you about it.

[SPEAKER_03]: Lawrence came to the line of scrimmage.

[SPEAKER_03]: It was perfectly quiet because it was a home game and they lined up those two backers Basically about three four yards deep, but lined up right in a gap and Lawrence y'all do all do all do all check check check [SPEAKER_03]: because those guys were both coming through a gap.

[SPEAKER_03]: There was no doubt he knew exactly when there were blitz and Kansas City tried to check out of it and they ran for, I think they ran out probably, I might have, I think it was an outside zone for probably four or five six yards.

[SPEAKER_03]: So that's the thing that ties into what we had just talked about earlier.

[SPEAKER_03]: So I think that has a lot to do with it.

[SPEAKER_04]: Um, and again, Jared got us pretty good against them and Jared got us a good now.

[SPEAKER_03]: He's not going to be able to do it because the cancels can be really, really, really loud.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you guys really, really good at it.

[SPEAKER_03]: And we got that mess figured out after week one.

[SPEAKER_03]: So I think we're in pretty good shape there.

[SPEAKER_03]: The other thing is, um, they, they run zone.

[SPEAKER_03]: Excuse me, 71.7% zone coverage is on drop-backs, 71.7% you know, it ranks inside the top 12.

[SPEAKER_03]: So I went through and I looked at golf, okay, so golf, because everybody's about what he does against man and man.

[SPEAKER_03]: And so golf this year is 82 for 180 attempts, 910 yards and 6 touchdowns against zone.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_03]: And he is, I think, by far, the best quarterback today today's game, that reads carriages and reads zones and reads schemes and throws receivers open better than anybody, okay?

[SPEAKER_03]: And I know he can't run like Lamar Allen, but they can't go.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, especially if they're playing zone, he's not going to be able to run because the defense of backs won't have their back to him.

[SPEAKER_04]: So he might not get more than five or six yards rushing.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, so I think so I think that's something you know thinking about that blitz concept who is good point thinking about that blitz concept It's that's going to be kind of tying to see how the lines are going to do because they do have a tough time so I think they're running more blitz Run blitzes instead of and maybe trying to catch somebody because you know the oh yeah [SPEAKER_03]: you know the NFL first down they get two yards second down they run third down well you know something good teams don't but so I think that's what they're doing that so also I went back and looked at the 2023 game right was that last time we played them yeah two years ago opening two years ago and Jared golf and that was great game you know I mean we we were kind of young we weren't as talented as we are now [SPEAKER_03]: But golf had thrown 35 passes in that game.

[SPEAKER_03]: And 20 of those passes, okay, 20 of those 35 were in the middle of the field, okay?

[SPEAKER_03]: And that was like two or three screen plays behind the line of skirmish, okay?

[SPEAKER_03]: So why I'm bringing that up?

[SPEAKER_03]: Second down, but this is, with inside line backers are coming downhill, we're gonna throw the screen in behind those guys as they're coming, and then we had, [SPEAKER_03]: short and medium, no deep balls that.

[SPEAKER_03]: So I thought that was interesting and he was 17 for 20 in those stats.

[SPEAKER_03]: So I just, I think there's, I know there's a lot of numbers of stuff there, but looking at those things, you know, you, is our screen came, game going to come back with more of the in middle screen game because of those second down blitzes and I'm sure the lines have all these stats and probably way more than what I have to exactly figure out how we're going to attack that defense.

[SPEAKER_04]: All right.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I've got one more stat for you.

[SPEAKER_04]: 20% off.

[SPEAKER_04]: That's what you can get off roast your jack coffee.

[SPEAKER_04]: If you use the code Lyons, they're out of Traversity, Michigan.

[SPEAKER_04]: They've been roasted since 1999 folks.

[SPEAKER_04]: Again, roast your jack dot com, use the code Lyons.

[SPEAKER_04]: You get 20% off.

[SPEAKER_04]: All right, coach, now we got to see what we're going to expect out of the Lions in this game and I've got I went into your scouting report coach and I think you hit on something with the homes right there.

[SPEAKER_04]: The defensive secondary is going to be tested in this game probably the most obvious thing knowing that both of our defensive backs are out and knowing that they've got the receiving court that they have.

[SPEAKER_04]: I am expecting the Lions to play a variety of schemes and change things up.

[SPEAKER_04]: But I think the linebackers are going to be key in this game, because Coach, you brought up a stat on Mahomes and what he's done.

[SPEAKER_04]: And he has two interceptions this year.

[SPEAKER_04]: Those two interceptions have come on short passes, which means linebackers probably got involved, or could get involved.

[SPEAKER_04]: And in fact, most of my homes pass as according to your scouting report here, are of the shorter variety, nine yards or less, is 44% of his stuff.

[SPEAKER_04]: And that right there is where our linebacking court is posed, I think, or poise, to have an impact.

[SPEAKER_04]: I'm Zell, you're seeing coach.

[SPEAKER_03]: All for sure, Lloyd Lloyd 96 shared right.

[SPEAKER_03]: And he said, sure, the interception returned and I, he baited him.

[SPEAKER_03]: He came in there here, and one of the off of that, let's talk about homes of throwing quick passes to 0.5 seconds this season, okay?

[SPEAKER_03]: So he's throwing more of a, he's still throwing some deeper balls.

[SPEAKER_03]: Now that he's getting worthy in those guys back, he's throwing more deeper balls, you know, from that.

[SPEAKER_03]: But he's doing a lot of those dump downs because he didn't, he didn't have his receivers.

[SPEAKER_03]: He's, he's doing the little dump down to Kelsey and now, I can't remember the other tight ends name.

[SPEAKER_03]: And so they're doing that for great.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, thank you, Gray.

[SPEAKER_03]: No, Gray.

[SPEAKER_03]: And they're trying to do that.

[SPEAKER_03]: So I think that's why he's going short on those.

[SPEAKER_03]: And then he's trying to turn in those runs.

[SPEAKER_03]: I think you'll try to pick that up a little bit.

[SPEAKER_03]: But I hope he does try to throw the ball down deeper a little bit more because we played cover two last game 50% of time.

[SPEAKER_03]: We had two ice-afeties.

[SPEAKER_03]: That's the most we've ever done.

[SPEAKER_03]: And I think in 2023, [SPEAKER_03]: one of our safety's had to pick six against mohomes first one is career yeah and we have the best safety that has the most interceptions in the last more more interceptions in this time in this career then anybody except at read [SPEAKER_03]: He was pretty good safety.

[SPEAKER_03]: So anyways, going back to what you said, and then I cannot wait to watch Alexander Anzoni and Kelsey square up.

[SPEAKER_03]: I cannot wait.

[SPEAKER_03]: This is going to be I am probably going to have every angle I can find and just watch that any pass and downs because I want to see Anzoni and he'll he'll abuse him and Kelsey's great and they're in Kelsey's going to get mad and frustrated probably just bump and you read.

[SPEAKER_03]: throw us helmet and smash Taylor's new album that she just made, but I can't wait for that one.

[SPEAKER_03]: And I love Kelsey, don't get me wrong, but this is going to be a fun matchup.

[SPEAKER_04]: It really is.

[SPEAKER_04]: James, I'll say on the defensive side of the ball here with the Lions.

[SPEAKER_04]: What do you expect the out of the Lions in this one?

[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it'd be interesting to see what they do at corner, how aggressive they are.

[SPEAKER_02]: Are they going to be more manners on because of the changes?

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the front seven, I think we know pretty much what they're going to do.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, with Alie McNeil, they're going to have [SPEAKER_02]: 3 really really good defensive tackles to roll in there plus you know plus low pez plus a guy I didn't see on the injury report this week in Wingo so I think he's going to be back this week too so they're going to be really deep on the D line this week and they're just going to be rolling guys in and out [SPEAKER_02]: I think on the on the D line to keep fresh guys and where those tackles down.

[SPEAKER_04]: So you think McNeill is going to play this week, even though I mean because he's a full practice, but you're expecting him to play because I think they're going to keep him out a week or two yet.

[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't be surprised if they do, but if they put him in there and they roll those three tackles, you know, they can limit his snaps, but still keep, still keep guys fresh.

[SPEAKER_02]: Regardless of if he's back, they're going to have at least four D tackles to rotate in there.

[SPEAKER_02]: If he's back, they have five, you know, they're going to rotate the ends around, they're going to do all that kind of stuff and just try to [SPEAKER_02]: To keep those tackles tired to try to get three or four false starts from Joanne Taylor You know, they're you know, they're gonna point out the thing with him leaving early And and just try to prevent those tight ends from from burning them Their third tight end is a guy who you probably are both familiar with Robert Tunyon from the Packers Yeah, did not realize he was on the team.

[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't either until just this week [SPEAKER_03]: Well, I've got a couple of other things I forgot.

[SPEAKER_03]: I wanted to mention that I was just thinking about D-Boy, I forgot.

[SPEAKER_03]: The one, the one stat I was talking about with Pacheco running.

[SPEAKER_03]: The Lions are at 6.9% defences and mistackle rate lowest in NFL.

[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, 0.9% that's unbelievable.

[SPEAKER_03]: So that's how good our linebackers are.

[SPEAKER_03]: Overthrows this year, it leaves the league where he's overthrown the ball 12 times.

[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think feel, well, I can't remember what the other one was number two.

[SPEAKER_03]: So 12 of those.

[SPEAKER_03]: So that, so it's not like they haven't attempted them.

[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's not, it's only about three.

[SPEAKER_03]: But he's had 12 overthrows, where he's just lying.

[SPEAKER_03]: So so I think those are things that he's going to try to rectify.

[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it's going back to that us to run in too high, safe these last week, it'll be interesting.

[SPEAKER_03]: And you know, so I'll be fun to watch.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and I love that trade flower is going to have a whole week of reps under his belt going into this game because you know they're going to be rotating him into that game likely with Rockess and and I meet Roberts to be in the starters just to kind of keep guys fresh.

[SPEAKER_04]: So from the secondary, I think that's big and going back with the line back because I want to hear both of your guys thoughts on this.

[SPEAKER_04]: I can't help but think they might do a spy thing again on Mahomes the way they did on Lamar.

[SPEAKER_04]: Now he's not the same type of running thread.

[SPEAKER_04]: He's very different but that linebacker can drop into coverage and can go back up towards the line because Mahomes is the leading Russia for the team.

[SPEAKER_04]: We got to remember that James and so I wouldn't be shy to they and maybe they're not going to call it a spy.

[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe it's a hybrid spy.

[SPEAKER_04]: where sometimes they spy, sometimes they don't.

[SPEAKER_04]: But I think these linebackers are going to be the biggest key on the defense.

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, actually, they're all going to be a key because the front guy's got to get home in order to, you know, help the secondary up.

[SPEAKER_04]: But what are some of your thoughts on?

[SPEAKER_04]: And that or anything else on the defense probably moved off.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think it's very possible that they use somebody like Barnes as kind of a spy.

[SPEAKER_02]: They did that a couple of weeks ago, and it worked pretty decently when they played the Ravens.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think they used a spy, I think it was almost one-third of the time.

[SPEAKER_02]: on their defensive snaps, so I could totally see them doing that again.

[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, my home is run for I think 14 first downs this year, which also leads their team.

[SPEAKER_02]: So I mean, that's the thing is he can just move the chains with his legs too.

[SPEAKER_02]: So I can totally see them doing that.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and coach you know people have been saying the last couple weeks I can't believe the Lions haven't gone for it More they're punting the ball at midfield on 4th and 3 those last two games I mean that every game is based on its opponent Well the last two weeks the Lions were a little bit more conservative because the opponents didn't have very good offenses So we played the field game thing right and knowing you weren't gonna have to really outscore them You said out defend them in many respects [SPEAKER_04]: I think it's going to be a little bit different.

[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's going to see how the game goes, but we know we're up at against a much more potent quarterback than we faced the last couple of weeks.

[SPEAKER_04]: You're going to see something then again, Dan Campbell's investing.

[SPEAKER_04]: He's not scratching lottery tickets here.

[SPEAKER_04]: He's not gambling gambling.

[SPEAKER_04]: He's calculated risking, right?

[SPEAKER_04]: And so I think on the offensive side of the ball, we're going to see a little bit more of that this week.

[SPEAKER_04]: What are you thinking about?

[SPEAKER_04]: You're going to see how the alliance offense going into this game?

[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I think you got, you know, I think you're going to still, again, establish that run.

[SPEAKER_03]: They're, we're going to see a lot of quick passes and stuff because of their pressures that they can do with the front four.

[SPEAKER_03]: I think we're going to manipulate them and put them into situations they don't like to be in.

[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to tell you, um, [SPEAKER_03]: We have not, again, we have not run an extra offensive lineman all year.

[SPEAKER_04]: That's your point.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.

[SPEAKER_03]: We ran the number 13 person now.

[SPEAKER_03]: We had three tight hands.

[SPEAKER_03]: I got three receiving guys and you guys.

[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to, but skippers got signed and I'm just, [SPEAKER_03]: That to offset a defense like the the chiefs would be put six offensive linemen out there in two tights and go run twenty two or something like that person out and you're going to opt you're going to withstand that you can chip on on on on Chris Jones Jones because he's going to be upset with all the negative press he got oh my god, I've waited people just be quiet don't make that giant mad [SPEAKER_03]: because he's a good and and so I think you're going to see I think we're going to see that I just think the skipper thing coming up isn't as much and I think skipper was banged up too a little bit you guys that may be why we now see 50 okay but my thing is I'm thinking that I'm thinking that extra alignment was skip or you know and still some 13-p to offset them and we can still throw the ball to all those tight ends as well as as well as our wide out so [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and when you put an offensive lineman next to Manu, that's a little bit more help than a tight end next to Manu, and that's going to play a big difference.

[SPEAKER_04]: Not just in the past protection, but in the running game too.

[SPEAKER_04]: And so that's exactly it, Coach.

[SPEAKER_04]: You're talking about that.

[SPEAKER_04]: Getting more guys up there and you said it, we haven't run with six offensive linemen.

[SPEAKER_04]: That's six guy.

[SPEAKER_04]: We do that a lot last year.

[SPEAKER_03]: 60, I think 67, 50, I can't remember the number, but you know, what's the best way to stop Pack your homes, keep on the bench.

[SPEAKER_04]: exactly.

[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think I just think that's something that, you know, there's, again, you said that earlier, James, as we've said in a million times, there's always calculated risk, there's always analytics involved in Dan Campbell and those guys are masters at doing that stuff.

[SPEAKER_03]: And so I'm looking forward to seeing, checker, skipper reported eligible.

[SPEAKER_03]: I can't wait.

[SPEAKER_04]: all right James anything you want to talk about on the offensive side before we jump to your referee board.

[SPEAKER_02]: Um yeah well I think one thing is uh Jerry kind of alluded to it a little bit on defense one thing that the chiefs do is they kind of play a shell defense where they're trying to protect the boundary they're trying to protect the deep ball and they're a little vulnerable in the middle.

[SPEAKER_02]: Um so I think you'll you'll see the lions try to attack that and of course I'm [SPEAKER_02]: Sam Laporta, you know, Brock Wright, all those guys, and maybe get the running backs out there too.

[SPEAKER_02]: But that's just one of those tendencies of Spag's defense is leaving the middle of the field open a little bit.

[SPEAKER_04]: All right, um, take us into the Rafferport James.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they got they got Craig Rollstead.

[SPEAKER_02]: Somebody who they didn't have last year at all the last time that they had him was in the wild card game against the Rams.

[SPEAKER_02]: So in that game, penalties weren't really much of a big deal.

[SPEAKER_02]: Ironically, the Chiefs were called for 13 penalties last week against the Jags for 109 yards and the Jags only got four.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's been a big criticism by the Chiefs' own fans this year is that they are very undisciplined and sloppy and creating a lot of turnovers.

[SPEAKER_02]: In fact, they have had over 70 yards of penalties in three of five games this year.

[SPEAKER_02]: The Lions have not had 70 in any game this season so far.

[SPEAKER_02]: The the roll set thing they think one thing they call a lot or a lot more than they have in the past is roughly past or they've called that five times already the season.

[SPEAKER_02]: They had five last year for the year before that and five the year before that.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, they've already called as much as they've called them in any of the last three seasons on roughing the pastor and you know that Patrick Mahomes begs for those calls and a lot of times gets them.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, so there is that.

[SPEAKER_02]: The chiefs have been whistled for 42 penalties.

[SPEAKER_02]: The Lions only 32 so far this season.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, that is pretty good.

[SPEAKER_02]: The role tag crew kind of is pretty even on home in a way.

[SPEAKER_02]: Calls and [SPEAKER_02]: You know, in that wildcard game against the Rams, there was only nine penalties in that game, so not a big deal when the last time they had him five on Detroit, four on LA, only 70 yards, so not even any huge game-changing penalties really.

[SPEAKER_04]: All right, well now let's gonna thank you for all that deep dive into that information James.

[SPEAKER_04]: Let's take a look and see, what do we think it's gonna take for the Lions to win?

[SPEAKER_04]: Well, first off, I'm gonna go with, they're gonna need to make adjustments against Kansas City, but to quote Dan Campbell, they still gotta, again, paraphrasing folks.

[SPEAKER_04]: They still gotta play Detroit Lions football, because Coach Campbell said, you can't go away from your identity.

[SPEAKER_04]: You still have to be you when going against this other team.

[SPEAKER_04]: So I think it's going to take that from the Lions, I think if they can get a pass rush with four and can drop seven into coverage, that would be great.

[SPEAKER_04]: Or if they send that fifth or six guy, they got to run fast.

[SPEAKER_04]: They got to get there and going along with that stat coach throughout earlier, solid tackling.

[SPEAKER_04]: Keep that up.

[SPEAKER_04]: So some guy doesn't turn a seven-yard gain into a 50-yard [SPEAKER_03]: Well, I think that one of the big ones is my home's not to make one of the circus place.

[SPEAKER_03]: We can't allow moans to make a circus play.

[SPEAKER_03]: The one where he's getting tackled and he throws it.

[SPEAKER_03]: He does a 360 in the air and bounces it off his forehead and it hits off a guy's shoulder and somebody catches it.

[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you know what I'm talking about.

[SPEAKER_03]: He's those circus plays.

[SPEAKER_03]: So with that, with that spy technique, basically they did with Lamar Jackson.

[SPEAKER_03]: It's a spy by design, wherever, if he ends up here, that that on-site linebacker's coming down if he comes the middle in-site linebacker.

[SPEAKER_03]: Trevor Barnes, you know, so on, so forth.

[SPEAKER_03]: So I think that's the biggest one there.

[SPEAKER_03]: One of the other ones, we have to get the pressure, but those pressures have to turn into sacks to get him off his game, and a quick matchup off of that.

[SPEAKER_03]: Hutch is going 50-50 left side right side.

[SPEAKER_03]: We know they have the penalty king on one side, and they have Josh Simmons, the [SPEAKER_03]: the rookie on the other side who's only given up 5.7% pressures in five weeks, you know, 5.7% of all pressure drop-back jazz sim and so it's much hutch and excuse me and Mohammed and whoever plays that end spot, we have to get home with more.

[SPEAKER_03]: We don't need seven sacks like we did against Lamar, but we need four massive sack hits on moans to get him off his game.

[SPEAKER_04]: Alright, James, what are you thinking here as far as what it's going to take for the lines to win?

[SPEAKER_02]: The blind's offense is going to have to be patient and take little chunks and be okay with that and put together long drives against, again, spagnola's defense.

[SPEAKER_02]: You can do that.

[SPEAKER_02]: If you start getting too greedy, you're going to throw interceptions.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's kind of what it's, what it's geared for.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's to not give up the big play and to create turnovers to force you to do a long, [SPEAKER_02]: a long drive where you have to execute on 12 plays in a row to get down there and score.

[SPEAKER_02]: So the lines are going to have to do that.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's something they totally can do with the port, Saint Brown, all those kind of guys.

[SPEAKER_02]: But they're going to have to be patient.

[SPEAKER_02]: They can't get greedy.

[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think you're going to see deep throws to Jamison Williams.

[SPEAKER_02]: It just goes right into the strength of that defense.

[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, or something, you know, I don't think you're going to see deep stuff to Jamison Williams.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and so in some ways it might mimic that defensive what the Green Bay Packers try and do, where it's trying to keep everything in front.

[SPEAKER_04]: And the Lions, they did it well against Baltimore, they didn't do too bad against Green Bay, it couldn't finish once I got down the field.

[SPEAKER_04]: And that was the difference maker in that one.

[SPEAKER_04]: So great observation right there, okay?

[SPEAKER_04]: Let's move to prediction time.

[SPEAKER_04]: Lions are underdogs in this game.

[SPEAKER_04]: Right now it's two and a half point underdogs.

[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to predict that the Lions run for 100 yards as a team and that golf throws for 250 yards in this game.

[SPEAKER_04]: And the Kansas City Chiefs have only allowed one guy.

[SPEAKER_04]: Justin Herbert to throw for three hundred and eighteen yards.

[SPEAKER_04]: Otherwise, the next most yardage thrown was Trevor Lawrence for two hundred and twenty one on Monday night and James it goes back to what you said in order for that to happen.

[SPEAKER_04]: It's not going to likely be the deep past of jamo.

[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to be those multiple completions moving down the field ten fifteen yards at a time on long sustained drives.

[SPEAKER_04]: So that's going to be my prediction for the game.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, given that given the middle of the field thing with their their kind of shell defense.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think Sam Laport is going to have a big day seven eight catches 80 or 90 to 100 yards So I think there's going to feed him.

[SPEAKER_02]: I'm enrossing Brown.

[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously get his as well But Sam Laport is going to have going to be in line for a big day All right and coach.

[SPEAKER_04]: How about you?

[SPEAKER_04]: What do you any your predictions?

[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, here's my prediction [SPEAKER_03]: They have a weak safety, his name is Connor, okay?

[SPEAKER_03]: He's got a weak safety.

[SPEAKER_03]: I'm gonna predict that Jamal is gonna have a big touchdown and it's gonna cover a lot of yards, but the way they're gonna run it is Saints gonna run the deep route and run the safety's off.

[SPEAKER_03]: Jamal is gonna run a dig route underneath it and catch the ball in the middle and take it to the house.

[SPEAKER_04]: All right, I like the creativity on that one.

[SPEAKER_03]: And if it works and they don't run it, then maybe they'll, the other mind, you know what I'm saying.

[SPEAKER_04]: I do.

[SPEAKER_04]: I do know what you're saying.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_04]: Um, as we had final thoughts, I want to let you know that Dan Campbell today was asked about the NFL report that the Lions submitted to the NFL about investigating people blocking Hutchinson low, reported by Adam Shefter and then brought out by many other people after that.

[SPEAKER_04]: I think we even talked about that report.

[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, Dan Campbell said that was bogus.

[SPEAKER_04]: The Lions never filed such a thing.

[SPEAKER_04]: And so just want to put that out there, you heard that from the head coach of the Detroit Alliance, he said, he doesn't know where that came from or how it got legs.

[SPEAKER_04]: So, all right, final thoughts.

[SPEAKER_04]: Any last comments here, James, before we get out of here?

[SPEAKER_02]: No, I think I think we have exhausted what we have, although Jerry I think has about 20 more pages of stuff.

[SPEAKER_04]: Here here I agree, you and I have exhausted.

[SPEAKER_04]: Coach, we're gonna send everybody over to YouTube to check you out after on a separate channel and you'll just stream live and read them their bedtime stories.

[SPEAKER_03]: I'll post some films tomorrow, so.

[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, that'll be great.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, look for films from Coach, for sure.
