And yeah, today's threads are crazy, and yeah, this video will be long enough already.
So without further ado, let's get into some terrifying true Reddit threads.
Help.
Woman hiding in boyfriend's hallway.
Am I paranoid or is this suspicious?
Hi R/RBI.
I'm not sure if I'm overreacting here, but something about this situation doesn't feel right to me.
This woman hiding at the end of my boyfriend's hallway behind a small corner and I believe she took a video of me on purpose.
She was super exaggerated to me, which is how I had time to get my camera up.
I've never seen this woman before or since, and no one lives down at the end of the hall.
She also seemed dressier than the people who live here.
Usually people wear work clothes or sweats.
Plus she had sunglasses on inside near dusk.
I am paranoid and I've had stalkers in the past so I might be more sensitive.
I'd really appreciate any insight on what this woman was doing.
Here's the video and in the video we see the OPI guess opening the door and then this lady who is yes, in dress your clothes has sunglasses on.
I'm going to blur her face because I don't want to just like show her face everywhere, but you can see what she's doing.
But yeah, she's walking by obviously recording through the O PS door or just like walks briskly, like fast by recording.
It's just a very weird thing.
And then the OP adds some additional details saying context slash details.
She timed her movements perfectly so that she would passed and recorded me at the exact moment my boyfriend opened the door.
It took him about 10 to 15 seconds longer than usual to open the door because he was asleep and had the door barred, which is not uncommon for us.
Why I'm concerned, I'm almost certain she was recording me and that's just weird.
She was holding her phone and her movements were at the exact right moments, felt calculated like she was counting the second I knocked.
The woman was hiding near at the end of the hallway where no one lives, seemingly waiting for me.
Questions I'm trying to answer #1 Does it look like she was recording me or waiting for something specific?
What else could she have been doing #2 does this seem intentional or coincidental?
And three, why would she be doing this?
Additional info, my boyfriend's apartment building doesn't have a doorman or security cameras in the hallways, so this video is the only evidence.
I'm not sure if this was a one time occurrence or if she's been there before, but I've never seen anyone down at the end of the hallway.
Thanks in advance for any of your help.
Let me know if you need more details.
And before I get into the comments I just want to try to answer these myself.
But the first question was does it look like she was recording me?
And yes, I mean, like, what are the chances of the timing of this lady walking past at the exact same time as the OP opening the door and having the phone recording similar to that?
I mean, it's like natural for the person to be walking down and like, look over if someone opened the door.
But to have your phone like, up like that recording very, very weird.
I mean, that would be a very weird coincidence.
And #2 the question was, does it seem to be intentional or coincidental?
It definitely could be coincidental, but to me, this seems very intentional.
I mean, with all of the other contexts and details the OP has added, it's not adding up.
It doesn't seem like it was like a, oh, I was holding my phone up like, you know, picking up a phone call or I was walking with my phone popped up like that.
It just doesn't seem like that.
And then #3 why would you be doing this?
And to be honest, I have no clue.
It's very, very weird.
I don't know why this lady would walk by at the exact same time, seemingly record.
I don't know.
But let's get into some of the comments and some theories some people have.
Someone says that's weird.
There could be a number of explanations #1 she's mentally ill #2 She's a really bad private investigator and is investigating you or your boyfriend for insurance fraud, disability workers comp.
Are either of you involved in any claims or lawsuits right now #3 She's a friend of someone who is dating your boyfriend and she was there to video you for her friend.
I'd contact the police, make a report so it's on record.
That way you start a paper trail in case she comes back and escalates.
And the OP then responds to this saying no disability or insurance claims and we spend like 100% of our time together so I don't think he's cheating someone else says.
Another possibility could be someone working on behalf of the landlord to prove you're staying there X number of nights, or trying to gather other evidence for an eviction.
Regardless, I highly recommend a police report.
I'm really sorry you're dealing with this.
I find it creepy and invasive and I'm just a random person on the Internet watching the video.
I know your discomfort must be high.
And then someone else says the landlord thing is probably it.
I was a realtor in an area popular for renting and this was a big deal.
People would rent a place and then a boyfriend or girlfriend would be over and then they would essentially move in over a certain number of days.
In most areas you become a resident and must be on the lease.
If she is spending 100% of her time there with her boyfriend, she is living there.
That's an interesting theory.
Someone else says this is extremely unlikely.
A landlord wouldn't spend that money on what a camera would do for free.
That's a good point.
And then someone responds to that, saying placing a camera in the hallway facing the boyfriend's apartment is unlikely.
I don't know where Opie lives, but this is something I know landlords have done.
Where I live, San Francisco, we have rent control and strong tenant protections, so if a landlord wants to get a long term rent controlled tenant out, they would absolutely pay someone to do something like this.
Now all that being said, after reading some of the more O PS comments in post history, it seems like there's something more going on.
Something related to mental health to be sure.
However, mental health issues do not preclude other shenanigans by her boyfriend or others.
This whole situation is heartbreaking.
From the weird person to the DV by the boyfriend and her thoughts that she's being gang stalked.
That's this is a lot going on that just uncovered a lot of possible layers to this entire thing.
And now I went back into the O PS post history or comment history and the OP did make a comment saying can anyone mention specific tools slash apps slash data slash search engines?
Kind of just putting together that I think I've been hacked by the same person or group for up to 10 years and that if you guys are familiar with gang stalking, people who have mental health issues think that sometimes people are targeting them or being gang stalked.
That is a very weird post by the OP and so I don't know.
There's a lot of layers to this.
And also the OP made a comment like a little bit before this saying trigger warning domestic violence slash alcohol.
Last weekend my boyfriend hurt me and got me sent to jail over it and is constantly saying that I'm breaking up with him.
I wasn't charged with anything but I'm all alone crying at my mom's house because I have no other friends besides him, no money slash liquor, and no one will ever love me.
So there's two factors to this.
Now the OP has some sort of suspicion or paranoia and domestic violence.
So this is 2 big layers that got added on top of this, but they don't really correspond to the weirdo outside the apartment filming.
Very interesting.
Someone else says OP is in ADV situation.
I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the weird woman but I would not feel safe staying in this apartment.
And the OP responded saying I don't feel safe anywhere and then the Commodore said OK but the person most likely to actually harm you is your partner.
This is known and proven.
He's already done it.
He's proven that if he feels like it, he will physically hurt you.
The people you feel are scary.
Those situations you feel afraid of, those haven't hands on you.
Maybe they've yelled, maybe they've been mean and then they continue.
None of it's that more relevant.
And then someone else says ignoring how creepy the waiting and walk by is.
Could it be a concerned neighbor or someone involved with the property?
They might be trying to be vigilant if there has been ADV dispute and yelling sometimes as OP stated in a comment.
I know I've snapped photos and videos of situations they weren't enough to report, but just suspicious enough that if I heard about it on the news later I'd have something to help.
It could just be about any of the theories.
Post it here honestly.
Maybe post a screenshot of her in a local Facebook group or crime watch thread and see if anyone recognizes her.
That's definitely a possibility.
I guess a concerned neighbor or friend on the floor that wants to possibly get proof of something.
But at the same time I feel like most people would just like let it be.
It wouldn't be so intrusive or invasive in film.
The OP exiting the apartment.
That's very weird.
Someone else says super suspicious.
To me it appears like they're wearing a wig judging by the hairline.
Can your boyfriend install a ring style camera?
And the OP responded saying I don't think he can outside the apartment but I will check.
And someone else says hey so I don't like this neither do I this is very weird.
And then someone else says definitely looks to be recording so might just be a weirdo.
Someone else says if this is real it's totally SUS.
She's most definitely filming as she walks by.
The Opie responded saying for sure real and I don't know how to explain it without sounding paranoid.
And then the top comment on the entire thread is when you were arrested for DV against your boyfriend last week, as per your post history was he may be issued a temporary restraining order.
If so, violating that order by being with him would be a bond violation.
It's probably related to that.
And then someone responded saying a very smart take.
Someone else says, I assure you, absolutely nobody in law enforcement cares about an order of protection enough to be proactive like this.
You can barely get them enforced when you need it.
And that's kind of true.
I mean the government's not the most proactive thing someone else has.
I swear I checked post history and didn't see anything like that and someone shows proof saying last week my boyfriend beat me up and got me sent to jail over it and someone else says wow that's sad.
Yeah this is not doing well written all over it.
OP you need to lay off the liquor and leave the man.
Huh.
This is a very very interesting thread.
And then about a month or two after this post was posted, someone said any updates and the OP responded saying thank you for asking.
Unfortunately I never found out and things have gone so bad I'm afraid to ask.
But we're not seeing each other anymore for whatever that's worth.
And then the commenter says it sounds like you worked out for the best.
I wish you happiness.
And then I went through the O PS post history from eight months ago or that most recent comment up until now, and nothing more has been related to yeah, this this woman or this post in general.
But this, there were so many layers to this entire story and I don't know how they all correspond to each other.
I mean, there's the DV situation, there is the possible mental health slash gang stalking situation, and then there is this woman who recorded the OP and none of them really correspond with each other.
I mean 'cause like, she's not making up the woman recording her.
That was obviously proved and there's proof that this woman walked by recording the OP, but I don't know.
This is a very, very weird situation and to be honest, I have no clue what to even say about this.
I mean, the OP even said things didn't work out.
Possibly the the OP and her boyfriend got in a scuffle again or fought or something or broke up.
We don't know.
That's all speculation.
But I just wonder what that Lady was doing, what the OP was thinking.
I don't know.
This is very, very weird.
And that's just the best way to put it.
And it's very unsettling, to be frank.
And I don't really have any more theories.
Do you guys have any theories?
I mean, yeah, I just laid this all out.
This is kind of all the information we have, so drop your theories down below because I'm very interested to see what you guys think about this because to be honest I'm lost.
But this was one of the more interesting and unsettling threads I've read in a while.
On to the next one.
I found a hidden camera under my desk in my rented apt.
I called the police, but I'm not convinced by their conclusion.
Long story short, I've been renting this apartment for four to five months now.
I am here on and off.
My girlfriend lives abroad, so I stay here a month, then go back to my country for a few weeks, etcetera.
Recently, I tried to move the desk in my apartment as I wanted to make a DIY den for my rabbit and I wasn't using the desk much.
This is when I realized it was plugged to something behind my wardrobe.
They're next to each other.
There was this black wire and I followed it to a small compartment under the desk where a camera was very covertly installed and covered in black tape.
The camera was basically positioned so that it perfectly records the groin area.
Of someone sitting.
Down on a chair in front of the desk.
I guess it could also record the bed, but it didn't have a clear enough direction and towards it and could only record maybe 25% of the lower part of the bed.
The camera was fully covered in black tape except for the small objective, so the light on it wouldn't be visible when turned on.
The person who put it there had made sure of this by also covering the whole inside of the desk compartment with black tape and cutting a whole thread only for the objective.
I can't explain it better and it would be easier if this sub allowed photos, but the setup was hardly noticeable at all.
When I went to the police station, two officers drove me to my house and investigators who lived there before me.
Apparently it was an escort who people had filed similar complaints against.
Similar from what they said, but they didn't go into much detail.
I'm having a hard time figuring out why an escort reviews such a set up and I can't really stop overthinking it.
If it was for blackmail, then why place the camera at such a low angle that it couldn't easily capture faces or identifiable features?
Why exactly the perfect position to capture someone sitting at the desk?
Why a Wi-Fi camera as opposed to a memory card 1?
The whole building has Wi-Fi, but why would an escort need remote access to a camera even while she's absent?
Why I positioned it in such a place?
They could barely catch the feet slash legs of someone laying on the bed and not the whole act.
The wire was also taped to the back of my wardrobe with Scotch and it's clear from the setup that this desk has always been in the same place.
My apartment is also a very small studio apartment, so not much room to fiddle with the beds position.
We're talking a matter of inches.
I have so many questions about this and I'd really appreciate some insight.
A lot of students slash kids have lived in this apartment before me as it's close to a school and Landlady's husband would often unlock the door even if I wasn't home or didn't open when he's knocking just to showcase it to potential tenants before I had to ask him to stop and tell him that I'm staying here long term.
One time he brought this 14 year old with her mother to show her the apartment.
I'm a guy so I couldn't really care less if he spied on me as I got nothing to hide.
But as I mentioned, kids lived here before me which is why the officers conclusion seemed kind of unthoughtful to me given the possible threat here.
And then the OP makes an edit to the post saying here is the video I took before I called the cops.
I hope the setup is somewhat clear.
This is the compartment in the lower part of the desk.
Tape wrapped in the interior and overcam likely to hide the red light coming from when it's plugged in.
And then the OP links a video to what he found, and I'll play the video now.
Yeah, that is very eerie.
I mean, a perfect little compartment for the camera to fit in there.
Obviously it was hidden there.
It's not like they accidentally had it.
The camera was obviously not for security.
I mean, that's obvious enough, but it's not like, Oh well, I just needed security for my apartment.
No, that was malicious.
I mean, underneath the desk.
Are you kidding me?
Like the OP said, pointed at the groin area.
That is very, very creepy.
And it's just the the perfect hole to spy through.
So odd.
And let's get into some of the top comments and some people's theories.
Someone says check your smoke detectors and heating vents for more cameras.
Someone else has agreed this is a hack job by an amateur.
But they knew enough to tape up the camera to disguise it.
So there's always a chance that they figured out how to install one or two in the bathroom, too.
I checked the vent at least very thoroughly with a strong flashlight.
Yeah, I mean, I didn't even think about that.
But if there's one camera, there definitely could be more.
I mean, there could definitely be a camera in the bathroom or in your room.
Or did OP did say it's a studio apartment?
So much smaller one.
But yeah, definitely bathroom vents, some other sort of, you know, intimate areas.
I mean, if it's underneath your desk pointed at that area, who knows where else there's cameras.
I mean, that is very, very unsettling.
Another commenter says as a retired S worker, I've used a similar method to hide a camera in my bedroom so that I would have recourse if push came to shove.
Using a streaming camera would allow me to record the stream on HDD and not have to worry about SD cards getting full.
Not to mention placing the recording out of reach of clients, potentially messing with it while my back was turned.
That's definitely possible.
And also has anyone considered, I haven't seen anyone consider it being a camera, some girl of shorts?
I mean it wasn't escort but does that mean they did stuff online and then they had the camera where it was so it's an easier view?
If that makes sense?
I mean I'm speculating but that also kind of makes sense if they just never took the camera out after they moved out, if it was a potential Cam worker, if you know what I mean.
Very, very odd.
And then someone else has a long theory, and let's get into that.
Someone says that's a security camera rather than a device intended for covert recording.
Obviously it was being used for covert recording, but the limited field of view is quite obvious from your video, as is the fact that it is not a professional grade setup by any means.
That is without any doubt.
I've done bug sweeping for almost 30 years in amateur gig.
It's actually more likely that has been used for the audio feed considering the positioning of the lens, which is wide angle but would be so obscured that the field of vision would be severely limited.
If you're tech savvy, you could always plug it in and use a Wi-Fi snooper to figure out what the device name is.
That camera indoors can only be picked up within a 25 meter radius, if even that, assuming it was connected to Wi-Fi.
So it is fair to assume that it was connected to the building's Wi-Fi.
Unfortunately, there's no way to trace where it's going unless you know a $300 hour tracker or hacker.
And the perpetrator happens to be connected to the camera from their own network, which could be traced to a specific apartment using directional range finding equipment to isolate the strongest Wi-Fi signal correlated with the connected website.
And that that seems very complicated.
And then they continue saying what I'd do is leave the camera running in print.
Print out a piece of paper with the words I already called the police you creep, go fuck yourself Or a similar message of your choice.
Since these cameras are dirt cheap, that one could be as low as $40.
If he's not, I'd be very, very concerned about their possibility being additional units in your apartment.
However, the amateur nature of the person who installed it makes me think that they lack the expertise and knowledge of how to install a covert camera effectively, so you're probably safe.
My recommendation?
Download an app that snoops for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi signals.
Trace the manufacturer name and model of the camera.
If it's a 2.4 GHz non Wi-Fi model, that would mean someone is an adjacent apartment would have to be the one watching because those signals are essentially line of sight.
If it's connected to a Bluetooth network, they'd have to be even closer.
If it was in fact connected to Wi-Fi, the perpetrator could be watching from anywhere in the world.
And then the commenter continues saying check crevices in your room and bathroom.
Especially considering the odd position in there might be simple as someone installing a perv Cam to see upskirt videos, but the light would be so limited that it's difficult to imagine someone getting an any quality video.
And there are no infrared LE DS on the camera that would covertly increase the amount of light hitting the lens.
So whoever is doing it did it fast and without any proper setup.
I hope this helps.
They weren't able to see much of anything significant, but the audio feed would probably be decent enough to pick up conversations, although not very well and with a lot of noise.
And then the OP responds to that saying.
That's super helpful man and I appreciate your input on this.
It helps ease some paranoia in regards to potential looking in by the landlord, but unfortunately there's no more information I can provide you with as the police already took the camera as evidence.
All I can remember is that it was ATP Link Wi-Fi one but can't recall the exact model.
And guess what?
The OP then posts an update.
Yes I know, wild.
I feel like we never get updates for all of these posts but the OP posts an update and let's get into it.
The OP says.
I think I forgot to mention this in my Last Post when the cops called the couple about the camera, which the landlady denied even knowing about and said it was definitely not them.
They were in a vacation at the beach.
Well they are apparently back.
And today when my girlfriend and I were in front of the building, we saw her husband working in the garage.
He went up to us himself and started explaining the situation to my girlfriend in her language.
Couldn't understand much but she translated it to me later.
Turns out that now his explanation is that the camera was used by some ex tenants and that it wasn't plugged in.
He said the reason it was still in my room is because he refused to give it back to them because they owed him rent money.
He also asked where the camera is now.
She told him the cops confiscated it and he said we shouldn't have called the police.
This seems very suspicious by the old landlord.
And then he continued saying it kept a $40 camera to break even with the ex tenants and didn't even bother uninstalling the setup before.
Seems suspicious to me, especially since the wife denied even being aware of it when she spoke to the cops.
Also, he mentioned nothing about the escort that lived there, which the police told us about.
This explanation makes even less sense.
And yeah, that is very, very weird.
It's also weird that the guy brought himself up to them.
I mean, most liars, whenever they're lying or worried about something, they'll kind of tell on themselves, if that makes sense.
They're going to be like, oh, I see them, I kind of have to make up something and talk to them, and then they talk themselves into a trap, if that makes sense.
But that's very suspicious.
Him saying that he took the.
$40 or the $40 camera as kind of a collateral as rent money but then it was still installed.
That just makes no sense.
And him also being like Oh well you shouldn't have told the cops or called the called the cops.
The whole situation in that whole conversation was very very suspicious.
And the landlord seems like the you know, the perpetrator can't allegedly.
But let's get into some comments.
Someone says lol quite the liar.
Keep the camera for yourself and move when you can.
Tell them that you threw away the camera.
You won't get the truth out of these two.
And the OP responded saying unfortunately the camera was taken by the two cops who visited my apartment that day and they said they'd send it to forensics.
They sounded kind of discouraged though because I didn't think much of it and fiddled with it too much.
Slash put it in my bag before I went to the station to report it.
So they likely won't be able to pick up any prints from it besides my own.
Probably a shame since it's also not ASD 1 so likely nothing they can find at this point.
And yeah that's a good point.
I mean they won't be able to really find much.
Someone else says I would update the cops on his strange reasoning.
I totally agree with that.
Someone else says it sounds like we know who plays the camera now and I don't think it was a previous tenant.
Someone else says he put it there to watch you.
You should let his wife know of this resolution and you should let the cops know your landlord hid this in your house.
I'd also assume there are more.
I mean that person kind of jumped to a lot of conclusions but I definitely would call the cops.
And the OP even responded to this saying I don't really think it was there to watch me but likely the other tenants that lived there after all.
Typically students renting apartments in this building since it's situated right next to a school.
I have a feeling he might have forgotten to get rid of it before I signed the contract.
What I find creepiest is that from what my girlfriend told me before I decided to stay long term, is that some kids were supposed to stay during the summer.
And yeah, that's very very creepy.
Someone else says BS alert turned to 11.
I don't know what the laws are there where you exist or what recourse you have.
However, your landlords are full of shit.
I would agree the landlord really dug himself into a hole there.
I mean he was not innocent before, but that conversation?
Really was damning for him like that was a very damning conversation.
He, I mean like he just walked up and kind of threw all suspicion on to himself.
Oh well, why'd you throw away the camera or why'd you give the camera to the police?
It was there, but like none of his nothing he said made sense.
Very suspicious and sadly we haven't got an update since.
But to be honest I doubt there will be an update because I mean what can the police do?
Even if you tell tell the police that the landlord is being suspicious, they can't really do anything sadly.
And very weird post.
I mean what was he trying to do with that?
I mean was he just trying to be a creep?
Possibly.
Was it the landlord?
We don't know.
Was it the previous tenant?
We don't know.
It seems like there's a lot to speculate on here, but this was a very interesting thread.
But also very creepy.
Lunatic woman keeps using my address.
Why?
I'm on mobile so please bear with me on this.
We bought this house five years ago.
When we were looking at the house, the realtor made an offhand comment that there was a woman that was obsessed with the place.
It's not any fancy or special or cool house, it's just a normal house.
I didn't think much about this comment and we moved on.
Next thing you know, our electrical account was charged to her name.
Then the deluge of mail started.
Medical bills, catalogs, magazines, etcetera.
I work in a medical office.
I was walking her bills into the nearby offices and warning them that she was using our address and to make her verify her address before seeing her for her next appointment.
One somehow let it slip that our ID does indeed have my address on it.
That must have been why she changed the electrical account to verify address with the state.
I did flag it as fraud on the Ohio BMV website, but who knows what happened after that.
We are getting more mail from her than for ourselves.
At one point IRTSA lot personally called the rest.
It finally stopped for maybe a year.
Then it started back up.
I found out that she registered to vote with my address.
I had to call the Board of Elections.
They flagged her again.
She did vote in an election with this address.
Next thing you know, medical supplies got delivered for her.
I happened to be home and I sent it back with the driver.
Her only record on the court docket here was an eviction notice.
She lived a few doors down the same address but switched A1 to A4.
How do I get this to stop?
I can't track her down.
When I look her up my address shows up.
What's her motivation?
It's weird.
Edit to add, I think she's a bit crazy, not necessarily dangerous.
The only traits of her that I found is an old Facebook account where she claims that she's a fashion designer and world traveler.
Her posts are rather nonsensical.
She is smart enough, however, to concoct this elaborate scheme to establish residency here.
I know she's in bad health due to mail from a nursing home and Medicare and a wound vac, so I don't think she can physically break in.
So initially you may think that it's creepy, sure, that some person is trying to receive mail for herself at not her house, right?
But one of the top comments gets into something utterly terrifying and very creepy.
How someone can even do this to you.
And the comment reads as follows.
She's trying to establish legal residency by receiving mail at your address.
If she's successful, she can leverage your state squatter's rights and additional eviction moratoriums, plus backlogged courts and additional protection from pandemic relief acts.
Varies by state and municipality.
In the legality is iffy right now to claim she has a right to the home.
If she for example breaks in and you call the cops, good luck proving she doesn't live there.
Considering that she's got mail going there and has for over a year now.
I mean that is just beyond crazy to me.
And then the commenter continues saying OP please take this very seriously.
Contact your local postmaster and the FBI and put fraud alerts on everything with the credit bureaus.
Call utility companies and set passwords on your accounts.
Call the county recorder and assessor as well as your realtor who sold you the house and make sure you have clear title and she hasn't filed any claims.
Finally, and I am not kidding here, contact the FBI.
They should have an online portal that allows you to report mail fraud, which is what she's technically doing.
Finally, contact your local PD and start filing reports.
Let them know you feel like you're being stalked and that you're worried she's going to try to break into Squad.
Let them know you have filed mail fraud with the FBI/US Postmaster.
Finally, contact an attorney for a consult and have them outline any further steps you might need to take.
If you have the extra few, 100 bucks shouldn't be more than three to $500 total.
I would have an attorney at draft a cease and desist order and hire a process server to find her and serve her.
Again, OP, please take this seriously.
I'm absolutely positive this woman will try to use the mail as a way to try and establish legal rights to interest in your home.
There are so many insane stories of people losing their homes to squatters.
Please don't make the mistake of thinking you can't fall victim.
Good luck.
I mean, how terrifying is that?
Someone can just fraud you out of your own house, out of the house you've lived in, you've bought with, I mean, obviously your money and some person can just completely take it from you.
That is just terrifying to me.
And then the commenter makes an edit saying basically they're a real estate agent in California.
And in states like California and New York and the United States, it's very, very hard to get rid of a squatter if they are inside your house.
And the squatters often make use of legal loopholes to go so far as take not just constructive but legal possession, which is crazy.
And also it takes a long, long time to get them out of your house, if you even can.
So it's a big headache.
And they kind of give warnings saying keep an eye on whom you allow to stay with you, even as an overnight guest.
Keep an eye on your mail and if there is repeat mail for the same person, notify the post office and put a note in your mailbox saying that such and such doesn't live here and not to deliver mail to this address in their name.
Don't give anyone your house key.
If you can help it.
Get a lock with a combo keypad and change it often.
Better yet, get a smart lock with remote access.
Actually get both, and then the commenter links some terrifying stories of people who have literally lost their homes due to squatters.
And just a few of the titles.
I'm not going to get into the articles, but the titles are scary enough.
This guy causes about a dozen families to lose their homes using arcane legal loopholes.
This is another good cautionary tale with a fairly happy ending for those renting their place out in Airbnb.
And yeah, it's just a squatter Horror Story where people take people's homes.
And yeah, this is just such a crazy like thing that I've never really thought about.
And this lady should definitely, definitely keep this or take this seriously.
And then some people reply to this comment.
They're saying, is there a reason you can think of that the woman hasn't tried squatting yet despite being obsessed with the house for years and years now?
And then someone says, brah, maybe she is.
OP, check the attic.
I thought this exact same thing.
You might have a human nest in your rafters.
That is a terrifying thought.
And then unfortunately the OP doesn't make any more posts on this matter so we don't know what happened.
I'm really kind of sad about that because it's I'm really interested to see what happened with this.
Did the lady stop?
Did the OP then contact the FBI or the police and they did something or what?
I mean I'm really upset that we didn't get an update on this entire situation, but this is kind of a good PSA for everybody.
If you start getting mail or repeat mail from someone who doesn't live at your house or apartment, then maybe take that seriously because someone could be trying to take advantage of you or take advantage of your house or whatever and take your house from you.
Which is just crazy, but equally terrifying.
Someone keeps leaving random stuff all over my house and it's kind of freaking me out.
Recently I've been noticing random stuff around my dorm where it's not supposed to be.
I live in a small one person dorm room.
I'm the only one who has a key.
I set up a webcam recently to figure out who has been doing this, but before I could catch anything my webcam was stolen.
Though it's the only things that have been stolen so far to my knowledge.
But I have found a random note stuck to some of my stuff, mostly reading something along the lines of no or not in here.
I've also found a notebook with a description of my room and its layout.
If anybody can help please do.
And before we get into the comments, the OP made an edit to this post adding some more context saying to answer a few quick questions.
I already have a carbon monoxide detector after I looked up what was happening on the Internet and it's recommended to get one.
Next I'm seeing a therapist as I have ADHD and slight autism.
I have also ordered a tiny camera in the webcam that I bought was storing the video on my computer though it was not very good.
I'm kind of broke.
I also did check out that Reddit post and it does sound a lot like this.
Also, I will look into getting my lock replaced.
I do not lose memory or chunks of time and I've.
Also reached out to the Dean of Students.
For those of you thinking this is fake, that's understandable, it's the Internet, people can make up all sorts of stuff, but I'm not.
This was the first subreddit that came to mind for this so hell no.
Maybe I should post this to a different subreddit.
I'll keep you all posted.
Edit too, it's getting creepier.
I looked at the footage that the camera did get and it was just pure nothingness.
Also, a few things have been disappearing from my room, including multiple of books.
Some of my Pokémon cards and my clothes.
I don't know what any of those have to do with each other, but those are being stolen.
Also I found more notes, this time they are directed at me.
Mostly stuff like where is it followed by a threat if I don't tell them where it is.
I've left a note asking what is it but no response.
Damn that took a very crazy turn.
Who is leaving these notes and or what is leaving these notes?
I don't know.
Let's get into some of the top comments.
Someone says.
There is a large university in the city where I live.
One of the dorms there had several incidents like this.
As it turns out, the built in dressers did not have a wall between rooms.
People from room A would remove their dresser drawers, then reach through and push out the drawers in room B, climb through and steal things.
They could just put the drawers of room B back in place and walk out the door.
That is terrifying.
Someone even comments and replies to this saying I cannot imagine the terror I would feel watching people climb out of my dresser.
That's some real nightmare.
Fuel.
Yeah, that is very creepy, someone else says.
Honestly, I would reach out directly to the Dean of students.
If someone is getting into your room, this is a serious safety.
Concern and one that is way out of the RA's pay grade.
It needs to be addressed ASAP.
And then the OP responded saying I have someone said and and then the OP then said they said they would look into it.
No response yet.
Oh boy.
And then another commenter replies to the statement of I live in a small one person dorm room, I'm the only one who has a key.
And the commenter replies to that saying if you're in a dorm you aren't the only one with the key.
Your RA has access to a master key, as does maintenance, and there's probably another master key that's accessible to front desk employees.
It's also possible that somewhere along the line, someone made a copy of your key before you became a resident.
Universities don't change the locks every year.
And then another commenter says, do you have friends who are into pranking or an enemy?
And the OP.
Responded saying no not really.
In reality I have like 3 friends.
No enemies either, another commenter says.
I just noticed your edit saying the webcam uploaded the video to your computer.
So is there footage of the webcam being taken?
Perhaps get a couple more webcams or old phones recording video and get a friend to place them somewhere without you knowing where in case you are removing them in your sleep or some other non slash semi conscious state.
Or get a friend to stay awake overnight to keep an eye on you.
And then the OP responded saying the only footage is dark.
And then a lot of the commenters suggest carbon monoxide and check in the detectors because carbon monoxide can lead you to blackout and do things you don't realize you're doing.
But a lot of commenters just reply saying O PS in the dorm room he wouldn't be the only one in the entire residence hall experiencing the effects.
Which I do agree with that and I just don't know.
And I don't know what's happening with the OP.
No one really had any other theories.
And I did go through the O PS post history.
He never made a update post on this ever.
So I don't know if it figured itself out or it's still going on or who knows.
But the notes itself are very weird obviously.
I mean especially if they have threats on them that is very concerning.
But could it be the OP sleepwalking?
Possibly.
I mean, I don't know why the OP doesn't get like other hidden cameras other than a webcam.
Like why doesn't he put a hidden camera under his bed or in a closet or on top of his closet or on top of a wardrobe or on top of something.
I don't know why.
I mean maybe he is going to do that, but very weird.
I mean, definitely, especially if you're in a dorm, a college dorm, a lot of people could have access to your dorm through some sort of master key or some sort of other weird way to get into through a door.
I mean, it's not the safest or most secure room ever, but that's very weird.
I don't really have any of the theories.
Could it be someone messing with him?
For sure.
It sounds like that because if they were trying to do something malicious, well, they are doing something malicious.
They're stealing stuff.
But I don't know, very creepy.
I mean hopefully the OP is all right because we haven't heard anything in a while so I really have no clue.
Do you guys have any theories?
I'd love to hear them.
So comment down below your theories.
And yeah, I'm interested to hear your guys thoughts.
Someone tied my door shut from the outside.
When my dad came home it was gone.
Everyone's acting like I'm overreacting and maybe I am, but I suffer with PTSD from prior stocking and this is red flag.
Central there is a door leading to my garage and it was tied shut while I was home.
Someone tied it shut from inside the garage with a cordage rope we did not own.
It is still there in a basket.
I have never suspected frogging before.
And if you don't know what frogging is, frogging basically means someone entering your house and living in your house when you don't know.
Or coming into your house, eating your food, sleeping in your bed.
Really creepy stuff.
But the opie continue saying but there was an incident across the street from me of a strange man sneaking into a woman's back door and potentially poisoning her dogs.
What do I do I'm scared I feel unsafe in my home.
Is this a frogging technique?
I have other witnesses to this.
I'm not hallucinating but my father's acting like I'm being silly and then the OP gives us an edit saying it is confirmed not my dad did some eavesdropping to be fair.
I could hear him from my room and he was talking to my eldest sister about how he thinks it was.
My granddad probably did it just to fuck with her.
To which when my sister asked why though he just goes dude he's a Dick he fucks with her all the time.
Yeah that sounds about right.
Nothing has happened since.
No mention of me, no more weird incidents.
Also sorry I don't check right at much.
I don't know why I just don't feel the need.
So I'm super late to replies my bad.
And now let's get into some of the comments.
Someone says someone, likely your dad, was doing something in the garage that they didn't want you to see.
Now he's gaslighting you over it because he didn't want you to notice in the 1st place.
From another comment you made here.
I asked him.
He's got this whole the fuck are you talking about thing when I first told him and he asked if I was sure I wasn't asleep.
This sounds like classic gaslighting language to me.
A simple no that is strange would have sufficed.
But he also had to insult you in the process and cop an attitude about it.
These are not the actions of an innocent person.
Unless he is habitually this verbally abusive, this makes me suspect him 100%.
A door tied shut in your home is not going to keep you out forever, but it will at least give whoever is on the other side of the door enough warning to get out of there before you can go around to a different door.
To see what's up.
This would work for someone frogging you too.
The only reason I think it's your dad is because of his total lack of concern.
If he didn't know why Door was inexplicably Taisha on his own house, he would have shown more concern.
At least I would care why this is happening if it were my house.
No idea what he could have been doing in there, but I guess that was the whole point of the rope which he probably bought without your knowledge.
As you said, it was a rope you don't own.
This is just my opinion of course.
And then the OP responds to this saying I don't know if I'll call it verbal abuse but he does do this sort of language and tone with me a lot.
I assume because I'm ND.
He just has this mentality that I don't know what's going on sometimes I don't.
To be fair he was at work so I texted him.
Why'd you tie the garage shut?
I wanted a hot pocket lol.
We have a freezer outside and when he came home he pretty much immediately came barging in my room asking what the fuck are you talking about.
Kind of chuckling.
To be fair I'd be weirded out too though.
And when he saw I was sitting in my bed he asked if I was sure I wasn't dreaming, if I was sure it wasn't the door settling again until he found the rope.
Although one good point is him being the one to discover the rope and also him immediately knowing what it was.
He says it's meant for stringing fish.
I wouldn't know loli, just use a bucket for that.
I asked him again, saying it wasn't funny.
He got defensive again.
Maybe if it was a prank.
He felt bad once he noticed I was genuinely scared and decided he wasn't going to admit it.
None of that really makes sense to me.
None of that seems logical.
But who knows.
The OP knows their their dad better than me.
But a very weird situation.
I mean like could it be frogging?
I doubt it.
Could it be the dad doing something?
Probably.
And reading a lot of these comments, a lot of people suspect the dad for whatever reason, what he was doing in there, I don't know.
No one really seems to know.
But it seems like the dad just kind of had that set up for whatever reason, and then he kind of freaked out about it, got defensive about it and denied all involvement.
But yeah, I really don't have any more theories about this.
I read through a lot of the other comments and a lot of them aren't really not notable with kind of mundane theories.
But this was a very weird thread and possibly terrifying because if it if it was someone frogging and living in the O PS house without them knowing, that is terrifying.
But with the way the dad's acting very weird, I just don't know.
It seems like everyone's acting very weird in the situation and I don't know who to believe.
So what do you guys think?
Help.
Is my Airbnb haunted or am I being watched?
I travel most months out of the year and I just landed last night in Lima, Peru for an extended stay.
I got a pretty fancy Airbnb in a nice location on the ocean.
It had a really great.
Reviews and I've already paid $750 for this month to stay here.
It is an apartment with a main room with two tables in it on opposite sides of the room, a bedroom with a locking door and a bathroom which you can only access through the bedroom.
It also has a.
Balcony with a sliding door that leads into the main room that can be locked.
I arrived last night and some weird things have started to happen since I got here.
When I came in the apartment after my run this morning, I locked the door and I set the keys on the counter.
I 100% remember doing this.
I then left my shoes in the main room and smoked a cigar in my kitchen.
I lit my cigar with my personalized lighter that I carry with me everywhere.
I then went and took a 20 minute shower.
Then weird thing #1 happened.
When I came back to the main room from my shower, I went to get my lighter and it was gone.
I looked everywhere for it but I was really confused because I know I left it on table one.
After looking everywhere, I finally found it on the other side of the room on table #2 which I haven't even sat down at since coming to this apt.
I thought it was super weird but I tried not to freak myself out over it.
Then weird thing #2 happened.
I then went to get my keys so that I could go get some food.
I go to the kitchen counter and they're gone.
This in conjunction with the moved lighter starts to freak me out.
So I look literally everywhere.
I turn the entire apartment upside down.
I looked in the refrigerator, I took apart the bed, I went through every pair of clothing I had, and I even looked under the trash bag in the trash can.
I looked everywhere and nothing.
I couldn't find them.
Weird thing #3 I started to get a bit paranoid but I'm still hungry so I go to put my shoes on so I can get food and there is a razor blade in one of my shoes.
I do not just own straight up razor blades.
There are no razor blades that I know of in this apartment.
Where the F did this razor blade come from?
So now I start to freak out and I call my friend and go my balcony and talk to him for like 15 minutes and explain what's going on.
He tells me to start looking through my apartment for cameras etcetera.
I start pulling the place apart, looking at all the wall decorations, etcetera.
I'm doing this for about 10 minutes before I get to the kitchen and my fucking keys are back on the counter.
What is going on?
My friend thinks someone might be somehow watching me either buy a camera or double sided glass or something and is trying to mess with me or threaten me.
I also am worried about that or wondering if my apartment is somehow haunted.
How do I figure out what's going on?
I feel unsafe but at the same time I paid $750 for this apartment and I doubt I will get it back if I leave now.
How do I figure out if someone is watching me or breaking into my apartment?
Any advice is appreciated, thank you.
And edit for those asking if I'm high.
I don't do drugs so that's unlikely.
As for the carbon monoxide theory, I sent a photo of the razor to my friend and they can definitely see it so I don't think it's a hallucination.
Edit to I'm in the process of contacting Airbnb to try and get my money back and in somewhere new.
Thanks guys and now let's get into some of the top comments.
Someone says leave now your life is worth more than $750 and I'm sure that Airbnb will refund you if you tell them there was a break in.
I would agree with that.
Your life is always worth more than any amount of money.
Someone else says yeah I would get into another Airbnb tonight and try to get your your money back in the coming days.
It's not worth risking your safety and or sanity over it.
Someone and then the OP says that's honestly what I'm leaning towards.
And then someone else says take a look at the reviews left by previous tenants.
Also definitely report it to the owners.
I'm Peruvian and can't say what you're experiencing is a common occurrence.
Someone else says, can you leave your laptop open with the camera on and facing your keys and or whatever else, have somebody watch it, then do something that seems like it would trigger the weirdness, like taking a shower.
The friend watching can let you know if anything moves or if anybody enters.
And yeah, I agree with that.
And then someone else says question the shoes that had the razor blade in them.
Were those the same shoes you went running in?
Also I have a theory.
I was kind of thinking this sounds like someone may have been watching and waiting on your foot to get badly hurt by the razor blade so that you couldn't easily escape.
I'm truly glad you did decide to go somewhere else and are now safe.
Someone else says holy shit that's a terrifying thought.
OP please update.
Someone else says somebody is there.
If you're by yourself, be careful.
As a foreigner and a woman, things are much less safe for you.
Lima is a beautiful place, but it has its issues and there's a lot.
Yeah, very sketchy.
And the OP then gives us an update saying I spent the night at a different hotel and I'm currently trying to get my money back and find a new Airbnb.
Thank you guys so much for all of your advice and concern.
And that's the last we've ever heard from OP, which is honestly very upsetting because this is a perfect story to have an update for.
But yeah, we got no update on what happened to the OP or what was going on with the Airbnb.
What do you guys think?
Do you think it really was somebody, you know, messing with the OP or coming in and out of the apartment?
I mean, I don't think so because it's like, how could they, you know, how could somebody go into your apartment within 5 minutes, move your.
Keys and go back out without.
Being detected that seems very risky and also I mean I just usually shy away from the paranormal theory.
Seems impossible or impossible but who knows.
It's very creepy scenario but luckily the OP got out of the Airbnb into a hotel and is hopefully safe.
What are your guys theories?
I found a key an extra mat under my doormat that I didn't put there.
Some context, about a month ago I was supposed to go on a trip and I had a friend to come in to feed my cat but they were busy so I was just going to put the key under my mat until they got.
Off of work.
Not super smart I know, but it wasn't a long time and I have a security system.
In my complex, the front doors lead directly outside rather than into a hallway.
When I pulled up my mat, I found a second door mat in what looks like a car key that both aren't mine underneath.
There isn't a brand on it.
It looks like a spare to me, but it's definitely a car key.
Now I want to add a detail that I think is relevant.
I was robbed about six months ago.
While they have caught the guy, he also is facing a bunch of auto theft charges.
I'm wondering if a this is connected and I should call the prosecutor.
They send me info about hearings all the time as his trial isn't over yet.
B someone tagged me or C Something that I haven't thought of yet.
Sorry this was lengthy.
I just felt that the robbery may have something to do with it so I included it.
And now let's get into some of the comments.
Someone says it definitely wouldn't hurt to call and provide the information.
They can decide what to do with it.
I was also a victim of theft.
Sorry happened to you.
The OP then responded saying I'm starting to hear that about you and I plan on calling them after the weekend.
Thank you.
When someone else says why a second door mat that's odd.
And the OP said That's what I thought too.
It's just a plain black mat, nothing special.
Someone else says Alco keys are blanks used to make new keys.
Doesn't matter if that has the black part which looks like a car key.
That's just the only blank the thief with locksmithing experience has.
The extra mat is used to try and deter you from feeling the key and a reminder for the thief.
Examine the key closely and look to see if the ridges and grooves are completed or have started but not been completed.
Then compare those ridges to your house key.
Key blanks come in different sizes and shapes even before they are cut, even if the ridges and grooves don't exactly match your key.
They could just mean the shaping is not complete, which would explain leaving it so a junkie won't forget which house it goes to.
Apartment complex keys will have different ridges and grooves, but use the same numbered blank for all the keys.
If the width, length and horizontal groove of the Alco match your home key, then this is precisely why it's there underneath the secondary mat which was used to deter you from filling the key.
As a reminder for the thief, if you can change your own locks to use a key that does not match the dimensions of the standard or key for the rest of the units, that thief will know what blank to obtain.
What you'd want is a longer, bigger key to reduce the chances of blanks being able to engage the pins.
If the ALCO key is longer and thicker than your door key, but the horizontal ridgeline matches, it can still be used to open your door if shaped correctly.
Damn, that was like a lock picking lawyer almost.
He really was right up on lock picking.
A little bit suspicious, but we're not.
We're not pointing fingers here, but someone else says that's a real brain teaser.
The only thing that I can think of doesn't really fit, but I'll say it anyway because it might give someone else an idea.
On Better Call Saul, Mike once put a piece of carbon paper under his doormat so that when he got home from work he could see if anyone had walked through his front door while he was away.
And then the OPIE responded saying that's actually insane.
Now that I think about it, when I was robbed I'd only be gone for 15 to 20 minutes.
I figured they've been looking in from a broken blind but this is really interesting to think about.
And then the OP gives us an update four years later.
Someone made a comment on the thread saying hey man I'm so curious, did you ever figure this out or get a better idea of what was with the key and extra doormat?
And sadly the OP said this.
Not really.
I personally think it was the guy who robbed me six months prior and it was never retrieved because he was arrested about 3 months prior to me finding the key.
The complex I lived in at the time was very large and identical so it was easy to get lost in there if you weren't paying attention.
I think he left it intending to come back and steal a car, maybe mine, but he got locked up and couldn't afford bail.
He was eventually sentenced to five years and seems to be serving the full sentence per my victim notifications.
He had a long history of theft slash car theft and drug charges as it was and many comments told me this was a blank car key often used to do that very thing.
So I moved out of there as soon as my lease was up.
Thanks for asking kind stranger.
And so we never really got an answer, but that seems like a.
Good assumption that the OP made.
This guy was trying to steal his car, get access to his house.
Got arrested, couldn't then get the blank key and the OP then finds it.
But very unsettling and honestly terrifying because what would have happened if the guy didn't get arrested?
You could have easily came back, robbed the OP and who knows if it would have been a aggravated robbery if the O PS in the house and who knows I mean steal the car.
That's all horrible, all scary, but luckily the guy got locked away and hopefully the OP is in a better area now and safe and all that stuff.
But very weird thread.
Help deciphering a letter.
Someone left this creepy doll in a coded letter on a bench in our area.
Any idea what the letter says?
If this is the wrong place to post this I'm sure someone will let me know.
Here's a link to the images.
And that is a scary paragraph, but let's get into the picture.
So in the picture we can see a doll.
I mean, you can see like the foot and hand of the doll.
That's creepy enough.
And then we see this very cryptic and weird note and it's to be, to me, it's undecipherable.
I mean, it's just a bunch of random letters and like kind of seems and the structuring of a sentence, but not really.
It has a big letter there.
Could this be a language that people speak?
Sure, but I don't recognize it.
But let's get into the thread.
And people made quick action of this and actually deciphered it, which is pretty crazy.
Someone posted this in the comments saying here is my translation for you.
Dear Emma, never have I wanted to murder someone more than you right now, and that's saying something.
If the purge happened, you'd be the first to dive on my hands.
I'd love to shoot your face and tear your legs off and cook them and eat them, then cut.
Charlie would be Sen.
I would eat him though.
He's too much of A dirty fat ass.
You'd be good to eat though.
Not too fat, but not too skinny, nice and clean, all good stuff.
There are so many things to do with a dead animal I actually have.
And then the commenter says it's a simple substitution cipher.
And I'm frankly just amazed at the commenters did that.
And they make a edit too, saying I received a couple messages from users who say they're friends of OP with a second page of this document and I'm posting my message in translation here.
This is the translation of pages you sent me and I'm concerned that someone might be in serious need of psychological help.
Page 2 A whole plan I want to break into your house, kill your family, all while wearing gloves of course, and bring their bodies home and cook them and eat them and of.
Course, if I got caught, I'd.
Commit S word.
And this is genuinely so like we're just reading this and just gave me goosebumps because it's like, I mean number.
It's not just a note, it's a it's a cryptic it's a cryptic note handwritten and it says that that is terrifying.
I want to break into your house, kill your family and eat them.
That is so terrifying.
And it's it's coded in this weird sort of cipher.
I mean, I'm kind of at a loss of words because it's so, that is so disturbing to me and so terrifying.
And people then say good Lord I hope OP calls the cops.
Prank or not, that's messed up.
Good job on deciphering.
And then someone says even if it's a prank, the person who wrote it needs to throw that shit.
Like this isn't funny.
I agree.
If this is a prank, that person needs help.
And yeah God that is just so scary.
And then the OP makes a comment saying wow, thank you everyone.
I've been away from my phone so seeing this translated is a bit disturbing.
I guess I could report this so they have it on file.
Most likely just a teen pulling a prank but you never know.
Thank you RBI community.
You've come through once again.
And I mean, I feel like the OP is being very LAX about this.
Like they're just, oh, it could be a teen pulling a prank.
If that happened to me and I post this on Reddit and post the note on Reddit and it says the things it said, I'm going to kill you.
I'm going to eat you.
I'm going to kill your entire family.
I wouldn't just be like, oh, you know, teens, they do that, You know, kids these days.
I would be mortified and call the cops right away, leave my house, get my kids, get my significant other, whatever.
Get the fuck out of there.
How is the OP so relaxed about?
Oh yeah, I guess I should report this so the police have it on file.
I I guess I should get to it at some point.
Like what?
I mean that's just, that seems very crazy to me how the OP was so relaxed about this and that is just so scary.
And then there's an update to the post saying OP who originally posted it on Next door has reported to the police.
We have no idea on anything else or who Emma is.
Thank you everyone for your quick work.
The right of community is amazing and we haven't heard anything else about this since.
So I guess it could have been a teen pulling a prank.
But like I said, better be safe than sorry.
All I know is if I got a cryptic letter with a bunch of ciphers on it and then once decoded said I'm going to eat you, I'd be like oh OK cool I'm getting the fuck out of here and I'm calling the police, going to the police station.
But very scary post Terrifying.
I mean I got goosebumps just reading that.
I can't imagine getting that message on my phone, checking my phone and be like Oh my God that's what it said but I'm very crazy.
Crazy post but I'm very interesting.
Things disappearing from house at an alarming rate.
Hey R/RBI, I'm not sure if this is the appropriate subreddit for this content, but my wife and I are stumped and could use some help looking for logical answers to this problem.
So it started about two months ago when we noticed the number of utensils in our apartment had dwindled significantly, and did so in a short amount of time.
We can't pinpoint how long it took, but our best guess is that in the span of two weeks, we lost six forks, 2 knives, and four spoons.
We bought inexpensive flatware sets when we moved in so we knew exactly how many we had.
Fast forward 2-3 weeks ago and I started a new job that required me to purchase work clothes.
I bought 6 plain white Tees, 6 plain black Tees, and 12 pairs of socks.
I finally got around to doing laundry over the weekend and noticed a significant amount of these clothes were also missing.
I'm down to 1 white tee, 3 black Tees, and three pairs of socks.
My keys also went missing last week.
For context, our building is controlled access and requires AFOB to get inside or a FOB to get inside.
My wife was out of town when this happened so I know for a fact that they went missing from the apartment as I use them to get inside or after work and they were gone the next day.
So this weekend I decided to do turn the apartment upside down in an effort to find these things.
It was also time for a deep clean.
So when I say upside down, the couches were moved and flipped, the fridge and stove were moved and cleaned underneath and behind.
Literally every stationary item in the house was moved and searched.
I found nothing and frustrated and would love thoughts toward a logical conclusion.
Things to consider.
We live in a 700 square foot one bedroom apartment so there isn't much room for things to hide.
Our building is controlled access, my wife works from home and we have two large dogs who bark like crazy at strangers, so the possibility of an intruder seems unlikely, especially two since no valuables have gone missing.
As for the clothes, we do have shared laundry machines on each floor, but I noticed mine were missing when I was separating them and before using the machines.
Please help us try and make some more sense of this.
Thanks.
Edit number one to address common replies.
I'm buying a stand alone carbon monoxide detector first thing in the morning and just upgraded our pet Cam to motion detection.
Video recording update #2 sorry to those waiting for an update.
I have nothing substantial to report.
Unfortunately.
Carbon monoxide detectors in living and bedroom were functioning properly.
Video camera hasn't caught anybody entering the apartment.
Still stumped.
And now let's get into the comments.
Someone comments saying I'm not sure if this is your answer but it instantly reminded me of events in my past.
Many years ago I had an apartment manager who really got off on going through his tenants apartments.
We noticed small and significant things go missing but like you it was always little things like silverware, socks, etcetera.
We chalked it up to us being young and absent minded.
That was until the woman downstairs came to our apartment to tell us that our manager have been going into our apartments when we were all at work and had a collection of trophies he had taken from not only our apartment but from literally everybody in the buildings.
Apparently he got drunk and decided to declare his underlying love to the woman downstairs and had made-up a basket of his trophies to give to her as a gift.
Wow, that's an insane that's an insane story.
So we set up a simple webcam system which did catch him coming to the apartment when we weren't home, but he saw the camera and immediately turned around and left the apartment.
He showed up that day and told us there was a cockroach infestation in the apartment next to ours and he was hoping to check our apartment but realized no one is home.
He got fired shortly afterwards and then the Opie responds saying that's very creepy.
Our apartment manager is a lovely younger lady who lives on our floor so I doubt it's her but who the hell knows.
My wife also works from home and I'm home at random times to do no set schedule so it would be hard for someone to sneak in while nobody's home.
I upgraded our pet Cam to record and save videos moving forward anyway just to be sure someone else says do you or your wife take the utensils out of home for work, meals, etcetera?
Do either of y'all meal prep for anyone else?
How?
Positive are you?
The clothes went missing prior to washing zero to 100% and then the opiate responded saying neither of us removed utensils for work or do any prep for others.
I work at a restaurant so eat there and don't take meals with me.
We originally thought they were getting trapped somehow in the dishwasher, but I inspected the interior thoroughly and there is nowhere they could be stuck.
The laundry I am 100% certain was missing before actually washing.
The only reason I noticed is because I don't own any white clothes aside from those for work, so I was separating them from colors.
My work socks are also white and I solely owned black socks beforehand.
OK, very, very interesting.
And to be honest, I have no clue.
I mean, I'm not the one to come up with an answer, but yeah, I'm something as well.
It's like, where's the stuff going?
Could one of the could the OP or the O PS girlfriend be sleepwalking and then move stuff without knowing and putting in a weird place?
Or could, I don't know, that's just very weird.
It's like, where did the clothes go?
Where did silverware go?
They're minor things that could easily be explained by a slip of the mind, but at the same time it's very weird.
And they had it down pat.
They're like, there's this many forks missing, this many spoons missing, this many forks missing.
So it doesn't seem like they're just like Willy nilly and they're just like throwing away forks somehow.
Very weird, but what do you guys think?
Creepy, anonymous, threatening postcard.
We received this strange and concerning postcard in the mail, addressed to us by name, posted from Little Rock, AR, our home state, but we have not lived there for over 10 years.
The front of the card shows scenes from around Dallas.
In the back says it's from the 6th floor museum, the place which President Kennedy was shot from.
The writing in the card says Lost Season 1 episode 23 Time 554.
We looked up the exact time in the show and it says we have three options, Run, hide or die.
Honestly this is pretty creepy and I'd really like to know who sent this.
And then the OP addresses a few pictures of the season 1 episode 23 * 554 handwritten on it and then the Dallas postcard.
Very interesting, but let's see what some of the top comments have to say.
Someone says mailing threats via the post office is a felony.
In addition to contacting the police, notify your local post office about this issue.
That's very interesting.
So yeah, I mean, threats are legal in general, I guess, but it's over the post.
So is it more serious?
I don't know.
And then someone else says.
I often think people are overreacting on threads posted here, but this is seriously creepy.
I'd file a police report and consider extra security measures such as cameras at your doors.
Is there anyone you can think of from Arkansas who might be crazy or angry enough to do this?
And yeah, I mean, that seems like a good conclusion.
Get cameras, but try to figure out who this could possibly be from.
And then someone else says.
Unfortunately, even the most minimal offense can set an unstable person off.
If there is nobody in your life or past that stands out as a suspect, try thinking of more obscure events or situations.
That's pretty frightening, and I wish you good luck.
Nobody deserves anonymous stalking.
And then someone else says you need to install cameras in and around your house like yesterday and someone else says can we see the stamp used?
People are saying the person may have held the card for a long time before finally mailing it.
Some stamps are only issued for a limited time but do not expire.
So it could help us see if it has maybe been on the sender's mind for a long time or not.
And then the opie replied saying we consider that and looked into the stamp.
It is a unique stamp.
Stamp that was produced in March of this year and the OPIE actually makes like only 6 comments and all of them are very minimal.
And then the OPIE never posts on this account ever again so it's unexplained.
We don't know what ended up happening.
Did the OPIE die?
I mean, that's a possibility.
Hopefully not.
Did the OP get socked?
That's also a possibility.
We don't know.
The OP went completely radio silent after this was posted, replied to a few comments and just left.
So what happened to the OP?
And who is the person who sent this ominous threat over a postcard?
And also, it's not like a like a verbatim run, hide or die.
It's Lost Season 1, Episode 23, Time 554.
That's very cryptic.
And it's like someone definitely has to take time to do that.
It's a very weird way to tell someone.
That they're being threatened, but who knows what happened to the OP.
What do you guys think?
Receiving creepy phone calls trying to find my name Twin.
This is going to sound paranoid, but hear me out.
I've been receiving incredibly creepy, disconcerting phone calls at my cell number, calling me by my name but referencing a book I wrote.
I'm not an author.
I have not written a book.
After searching, I found a book published under my same name.
My name isn't super weird or anything, but it's unique enough that I found it interesting.
The book is set where I grew up and references things that would be known to others in my area in the small towns around us, but not necessarily other people in the world.
If you're from a larger state or a metropolitan area, I'm sure this sounds like a reach to you.
But I'm from a small, quiet town surrounded by other small, quiet towns in a small, quiet state that everyone forgets exists.
The chances of there being two people with the same somewhat unique name living in the same small area and not knowing about each other feels very slim to me.
And again, yes, there are others in the country with my first and last name and one person in the UK, but not nearly as many as say someone named Michael Jackson or Matthew Smith.
There are over 10,000 people with the name Michael Jackson, but I can only find about 50 public records with my name and I think some of them are repeats.
The weird part is that the author has zero web presence, No social media, no website, no bio, no little author profiles on various book websites.
The book has no reviews anywhere on any site, it just exists.
If you search the author's name, you pretty much just find me.
I was originally trying to contact the author with my name to warn them that someone super creepy is trying to get in touch, but after I found out that they're basically a ghost online.
Seriously, who doesn't have a footprint online in 2021?
I'm starting to become suspicious that someone used my name to publish a book.
I don't think it was malicious.
My thing is that someone I knew as a kid wanted to self publish a book under a pen name and randomly chose mine.
If it is just a giant coincidence, I'd love to contact the author to send them the voicemails I've been receiving and give them a heads up.
I've contacted the publisher but they won't give out any of the contact information.
I've also contacted the US Copyright Office to inquire but haven't heard back yet.
Do you think there is anything else I can do to find out who wrote and released this book in their e-mail or something?
I'm OK with posting the name and ISBN number etcetera, but I'm going to see what y'all think first because it will personally identify me.
Happy to also post recordings of the voicemails if anyone is curious about it.
The person sounds like an actual serial killer.
Also, I'm super weirded out that the caller was able to find my cell phone number.
I googled myself exhaustively today and I was able to find my parents landline number which hasn't been used in years, but I wasn't able to find my own number anywhere.
So what the fuck?
How did this creepy person get my number?
And now let's get into some of the top comments.
Someone says.
Do you know when the book was first published?
How old are you?
Also, could you be more specific about the caller references the book?
I'm curious what they're trying to accomplish here.
And the OP says the book was published in March 2020.
I'm 32, so a little more context.
The protagonist in the book is transgender.
The caller says your book references the book by name and references the transgender aspect a lot.
But in the most recent voicemail, she asked if I myself am transgender and if that's why I wrote the book.
She says it's important that I get in touch with her and call her back because once you give me a call back, trust me, I can really make a big change in your life.
Call me, I'll be waiting.
The way she is speaking is quiet and hushed and breathy.
Her voice itself sounds so creepy and the messages are relatively long, like A1 sided conversation.
That's initially why I wanted to get in contact with the actual author, because the caller just gives me the creeps and I wanted to warn them.
If the caller doesn't have ulterior evil motives, my thinking is that they are a scammer posing as an agent slash publishing house or something trying to scam smaller authors.
That's the only real motive I could think of.
And then the person replied saying oh wow that's intriguingly creepy.
And then the OP kind of goes silent for a while and someone says any updates.
And then the OP responded saying unfortunately no real updates.
I'm still baffled.
Here are some minor updates off the top of my head.
I did order the book.
I'm trying to finish a couple of books on my list and then I'll probably dive in and try to read it.
It is super DIY.
The format of the book is completely off slash terrible.
It's one of those books where you self publish and then they print it for each person who orders it.
The bio on the back of the book says that she's a lawyer who lives with her partner in my home state.
So if she still lives there, why can't I find any evidence of her?
There certainly are no attorneys by that name in the entire state.
When I posted about this, I had reached out to the book's publisher and was unable to get any info, but they said they pass a message in my contact info long.
I haven't heard anything from the author.
I contacted auk based author with my same name who confirmed that this other book was not written by her so the phone messages are not intended for her.
I guess that wouldn't make sense and she lives in the UK anyway.
I also found an e-mail for the only person with my same name who has lived in my state within the last 40 ish years.
So I emailed and she has not responded.
I haven't received any other phone calls but as soon as I do I'll post it here.
I kind of want to post a recording so y'all can hear them.
They are super creepy.
Oh also, I was unable to locate the book title, author, or ISBN in any sort of copyright database, so I contacted the US copyright office and they said it'd be like $200 per hour to get them to search for you with no guarantee of finding anything so I won't be doing that lol.
And that's the last we've really heard about this topic on the O PS profile so we don't really know what happened.
And super weird case.
I mean like what do you guys think?
Do you think it was some random person who just kind of took inspiration from the OP in that small town and was possibly friends or classmates with the OP at some point?
Is like, that's a good name.
I'm going to write with her name and then just wrote that book.
And then somehow this deranged fan got access to the O PS phone number and was like an obsessive fan.
I don't know.
Very very strange, very, very weird.
And the OP never post the recording.
So I don't know.
But it's a very unsettling situation.
I mean, I'd be freaked out, but what do you guys think?
Someone has been putting strange things in my mailbox.
I usually don't post on Reddit but I am in need for some guidance.
I've been getting strange.
Things put in my mailbox the last two months.
I moved into my apartment about 11 months ago and I hadn't had anything weird happened to me for those months.
I live alone and I haven't had any interactions with my neighbors other than opening the door for one another.
About two months ago in early May, I went to go check my mail, which I only do twice a week.
When I opened my mailbox I had some promotion junk mail in there and a single black button.
I was extremely confused by this black button, but I honestly didn't think much of it and thought somehow by accident it got put in there.
The next week I checked my mail again and I didn't have anything in there other than a piece of paper that someone wrote.
Glass, wire, Tonest Verge.
I've absolutely no idea what that is supposed to mean.
After a while I didn't get anything else and then I kind of shrugged it off until late June.
I checked my mail again and found a few screws in my mailbox.
At this point I just assumed someone was pranking me and putting random junk they found on the ground in my mailbox.
A few days later I found a piece of paper with my full name on it and that was the final straw for me.
I went and talked to my apartment manager and they told me they would look into it but they didn't seem to care too much about what was going on.
Yesterday was the latest day that I found something in the mail.
Someone left me what to me looks like A to do list that says buy sweet potatoes, feed her, check mailbox, be quiet, be quiet, be quiet.
I left yesterday night and I'm staying at my girlfriend's house.
I sent an e-mail to my apartment hoping to get some answers about what is going on.
Does anyone have any idea what any of this stuff means and has anyone had anything similar happened to them?
This stuff just seems to be so random and time consuming to be someone and just messing with me.
Edit The mailboxes can only be opened by a mail key.
I should have clarified that they are all outside lined up on top of each other in a small shed like building.
I'm not sure if somebody is able to Jimmy open or put things through it somehow though.
Edit to as of earlier today, July 23rd at 2025.
I've been in contact with the police.
Earlier today I drove back to my apartment from my girlfriend's house and was met with my door being unlocked, which I definitely know I locked.
When I went into my apartment it was very evident that someone had been in there.
My things like furniture and papers on my desk looked like they had been moved and tried to be put back where they were.
I couldn't tell if anything was missing, but my expensive things like computer monitor, TV, and headphones were all still there.
I immediately called the police and two officers came down and took a report.
They have advised me to stay at my girlfriend's house while this is investigated and my apartment manager was informed.
I'm supposed to be hearing from someone at the police station soon, probably tomorrow, to go over everything again and trying and figure out what is going on.
I really don't have any other news for anyone.
I have absolutely no clue who would have been in my apartment.
I don't know very many people here in this town and you couldn't think of anyone who would do this.
It's obvious that someone is targeting me and I'm going to guess somehow has access to keys for my mailbox and my apartment door.
I'm sure management will work with the police and go through any cameras around and everything of that sort.
I will keep updating here when I find out more.
Thank you everyone for the comments trying to help me out.
Final edit Thank you everyone for their help and their suggestions.
With the help of the police, the apartment management, and everyone who commented on here, we have figured out what had happened.
Management was able to ID the person who had gotten into my apartment after looking at the cameras.
It turns out the person who had previously lived my apartment somehow had a set of keys still to my apartment door and mailbox after management had worked with the police.
Police had found the woman from the address she used to get her deposit and she basically admitted to everything.
She had been the one who have been putting things into my mailbox.
The person at the police station that helped me with the situation had told me she was definitely mentally ill and that the things in the mailbox like the words and the list definitely stemmed from her mental illness.
The person at the police station said she most likely saw my name on other mail and that's how she knew my name.
The thing that really disgusts me and has me shaken up is that the person at the police station had told me that the woman has been in my apartment a few times, which also means it was likely she was there while I was sleeping in my apartment, which terrifies me.
I don't plan on posting any more updates, I frankly want to try and forget about the situation as soon as possible and I appreciate everyone's help and I hope that no one here ever has to go through something like this.
Thank you everyone, this will most likely be the strangest experience I will ever have and God that is terrifying.
I mean, this lady seems mentally ill, comes into this guy's apartment regularly and does God knows what, and also writes these cryptic letters in his mail.
Sweet potatoes.
Quiet, quiet, quiet, sneak, whatever.
It was very weird.
But that wraps up some terrifying true Reddit threads.
I hope you enjoy today's video.
