Whoa, Hey, how you doing.
Speaker 2Welcome to another pisode of kid Lucy Got You Covered by Each week we go through the biggest gaming news stories in a random order, as dictated by these letters.
Speaker 1That's right.
In fact, some of them are the biggest news.
Some of them are questions you send in in which you can do bye emailing us at Gosha.
Speaker 2Covety games dot com.
Speaker 1Okay, let's go, it's my shurn.
Horses yeap has been banned from Steam and Epic Games.
Rumor has it Lucy actually played this game?
Speaker 2I did on Epic Games ironically, Wow, really before you played on Epic before they pulled it, because that's where I got the game code for and I wondered why none of my achievements were popping.
Speaker 1Well, I've also played this game, but.
Speaker 2Many moons ago played the previews.
Speaker 1At a little Day of the devs.
What was that twenty twenty last year?
Was it twenty twenty four?
Maybe the year before you Homish Nikes?
But you've actually finished it.
Yeah, And so if you don't know, this is a controversial game.
Controversial.
It's a great Prince album by the way, So when you play Horses, listening to Prince is Horses so messed up that it warrants all of this controversy?
What is the controversy?
Speaker 2Let me put my Wellington boots on because I'm about to wade into this.
Okay, So Horses actually has a pretty full Q and a breakdown of its timeline as to why things that got banned from these store fronts.
So long story show we this game was banned from Steam before it even came out.
The developers think that it is because so not only is the game it's like a horror, it's quite edgy, It has a lot of it has a lot of trigger warnings and such at the beginning.
I believe if you are thinking that you're potentially going to be sensitive to anything in that I would heed that content warning so preemptive it thinks it got preemptively banned because at one point there was a scene where in the game you go to a farm where all the animals are actually naked men and women wearing masks, and there are there's a dog and a lot of horses.
There's one point in a very early build of a game where a child's was riding one of the horses.
Because there's a part in the game where you get on the shoulders of one of the horses.
You have a little race that has since been removed.
Even before the game was submitted for certification, however, they got like this blanket banned from Steam.
No one and Steam will talk to them.
They were going to be distributed on Epic Games.
Epic Games then banned them day of release.
I believe it was Humble.
Itch and Gog agreed to distribute the game.
Humble release the game, then pulled it back and then re released it.
Itch and Gog have stayed fast.
So is the game controversial?
Is it adult?
Yes, that is why it has an eighteen plus rating.
The thing is I played through it, and hey, maybe this is just me.
I grew up on the Internet.
I grew up on four Chan and rotten dot com, and I would watch edgy movies when I was too young.
Speaker 1Aron watch playing a yes, a video game, like you're not looking at real images, you're playing a video game, which, by the way, oh ye true.
Speaker 2But none of that really bad stuff.
It's more like putting slop in a bucket or flowers flowers.
So at the same time as I was also watching horrible horror movies where horrible situations happened at a too young age.
If you reading Clock.
Speaker 1Of Orange, look you came out okay, and I came out okay, you and I both.
I also was raised on that era of the Internet.
I've also was probably exposed to certain films that I probably shouldn't have been watching a certain ages.
Speaker 2So the thing is is that back then it was just you know, That's what growing up in the nineties was, right, It's just waiting for your parents to go to bed and just watching seventeen Anyway, so as I played this game, I was like, yes, this is an adult game.
This should not be played by children.
That is what the age rating is for.
However, the bigger question lies is when it comes to the role of storefronts and censorship, because first of all, no one from Steam allegedly is talking to developer.
Steam is also like, what's seventy odd percent of the market, yes for PC.
The thing is is that that day that this was all happening, I was at home and I was wish listing a bunch of games on Steam, and if I clicked on the search bar on Steam, it gives you like trending games like this is without even typing anything, and it would give me something called like slot Squad.
It's like, okay.
So the thing is that that Steam doesn't seem to have a problem with any of the Eurotic stuff, any of the like the multiple like Hitler games on there.
There's a bunch of stuff on Steam.
There's a lot of problematic stuff on Steam that we'd class as problematic.
And so it's like, where does Steam draw the line here, especially if yes, the thing with the child's how that works in context?
I didn't see it wasn't in their builds of the version.
The build that I played, is like, if that's all been removed, why is there not a conversation like why is no one steamed like actually playing it?
And then this all leads back to the fact that the payment processes are trying to pressure certain storefronts.
We sort a few years ago with things like OnlyFans.
We've seen it with Steam to not carrying certain games because they just simply don't like it.
It doesn't reflect good values.
So that's the hell Scipe we live in, where payment process is the ones who can dictate these kind of things.
That's the thing I don't want to delve into that our games aren't shit with Horses.
Speaker 1Because if it may make an assumption, yes, if you go to Steam and you go to New Releases and you turn off your filters, you will see an enlightening amount of games and trigger warning for what I'm about to say.
But there was, i believe last year earlier this year, a game that was more or less a rape simulator that was catching wind because it was a game that was available that you could buy and you can play, and seemingly no nothing was being done about it.
It was a group of individuals who found it who then stood up to the plate to do something about it.
Horses is a weird sits in a weirder spot because it does have things in it, but that might be in that might be in the same subject matter.
Speaker 2Well, so these things, like all of the nudity not to be like the Horses defense Brigade here, but it's important to know, like the actual context of what is in the game all the New Horses is blood.
Any sexual content is implied and never shown shown.
Speaker 1So uh, And I bring this up because, like I know, you said, like is Horses ought?
But I think the big difference between something like Horses and maybe a game that is built and made for you, for the player to enact harm against a thing.
When we did chat with the developers last year, at least when I did, their main pitch was we love eight twenty four films, like we love that that company is able to publish things that are extreme but still have some sense of intent, so they're not gratuitous.
It's not like a lot of eighty slasher films that were made just to show like boobs and blood.
There's still some sort of thinking behind it.
Speaker 3Now.
Speaker 1I'm not saying Horses is like some high art thinking sort of like piece of media, but I guess like is a very blurry line when you're like, okay, person makes game that is intended to enact harm on things to give somebody the fantasy of doing something, when someone like Horses is a little harder to de fine, So why did Horses get payed to not these other games and my tinfoil hat thing is just simply because Horses doesn't fit in the category of games where those people are buying those games and doing those things.
Horses doesn't fit there, fits in a league of its own, trying to attempt to do something all its own.
Also, these developers.
The same developers made a game I love.
I like was shouting about this game.
It is the definition of a hidden gem.
It's called Saturnalia.
Came out two years ago.
I was obsessed with this game.
I actually even put it on my staff Picks Highlights video at the time.
So I have an idea of like, who these developers are.
They're basically like a group of French artists, right, Italian Italian Italian artists.
Speaker 2All of the interstitials and stuff in the game around Italian anyways.
Speaker 1So it's more so my tinfoil hat of why horses got like is getting this attention from Steam when these other games aren't.
Speaker 2The thing is no human will talk to them.
Speaker 1So so do you think it warrants controversy?
Speaker 2I think the controversy that is warranted is about payment processes and Steam store fronts and the one company has so much sway.
I mean, the thing is that Steam has so much sway.
What did they do a couple like?
This is the thing?
I love Steam, but you Steam is my primary store front, right Steam?
The other day when they were announcing Steam Machine, what did they do?
They there was an accidental thing that meant that this game that had been in development for years released, but like it didn't get surfaced, Like no one who got wishless a good an email, So their day one died.
So steams Make Good was to give them front page or give them some kind of boost or something, and it was the day they revealed their new hardware.
So you're talking about like Steam holds all of the cards in this and so yeah, it's a question of, hey, is that maybe a good thing?
And that's you know, obviously that's where God comes in, That's where Humble comes in, That's where Epic comes in, is these alternative storefronts.
But then, hey, if Steam is the one, if Steam bows down to something, it kind of feels like everyone else is going to do the same thing eventually, and like we saw it with Itch and we saw it especially when it comes to payment processes that it is just I don't.
Speaker 1Know, Yeah, I guess the final my final sort of thing that I believe, whether it's not really an opinion or a statement, but rather if you want to if they if they're talking about movies that were distributed by someone like A twenty four, it does leave that interesting, is like where do you draw that line in films that feature things that are far more graphic, far more intense, that are available to rent.
Like I maybe you can look at a Steam, you can compare it to Steam to say something like a Blockbuster of yesterdayears, you know, like a store like what a storefront like Blockbuster have the adult theory.
Yeah, actually, but that's the thing.
I don't know.
Blockbuster had them.
Other alternative video stores had them.
There was like a place in Buffalo, New York where I was, where a group called Mondo Video.
Like that's where you would go for the weird stuff.
That's where eraser Head was, where all the weird movies were.
There was another independent store in my neighborhood called Church Mall Video.
It wasn't a church, and they also had an adult section, but weirdly, in the front section you can get like Faces of Death And if you know what Faces of Death is, it's a movie that shows real deaths.
But you could rent that at that store.
But could you read something like that at Blockbuster?
Probably not so I In terms of controversy, I just think this is one of those situations where I think it comes down to the storefronts more than the game itself.
And I as someone who's only played parts of Horses, appreciate a game like this existing that is causing a little bit of a stir a conversation about stuff like this.
But ultimately, who should decide when a game is banned?
I don't have the answer to that.
I think it comes down to a lot of variables that will probably uh, we can go down a long rabbit hole of other medias and other things.
So yeah, interesting, maybe a little context is missing when people are looking at horses, not the not horses.
The game over the next letter.
Speaker 2Metroid Prime four is out.
John Luke has played it.
Donok sum up the game in fifty words.
Speaker 1Yeah, that's it, buddy, all right, and I'm gonna be counting you.
Speaker 3I knew this was coming, so I had to prewrite it.
Speaker 1Okay, fine, you have to do it in sixty four fuck all right, give the ad minute then you Oh that counts, thank you.
That accounts just the first that yeah, just the fu Okay, find four FEUs or four words to two FEUs.
All right, go fuck you hurt.
Speaker 3Metrod Prime four does everything the Prime games are known for excellently, atmosphere, art, direction, environmental storytelling, combat boss battles all wonderful play with HDR on the new stuff Open World Hub is far less successful.
Characters too.
It didn't hurt my overall enjoyment, but will vary from person to person.
Where am I at?
Speaker 1You're missing no, no, no, no no no, you're missing six words.
I was counting, really really.
Speaker 2Some three syllable woods as like three woods?
Speaker 1Yeah, you got four more?
Okay?
Speaker 3I have how many more?
War?
Speaker 1You have four more?
Full?
Okay?
Uh, you don't know, you don't know Enviro.
Speaker 3Doing that?
Speaker 1Just do it now?
Speaker 3Eight?
Ten?
Uh yeah, eight out of ten?
Speaker 2Hey, all right, okay, now do it in ten words?
Speaker 1Ten words?
What do you ever sell them?
Speaker 3Let's see good Prime game, bad Metroid Vanya.
Speaker 2It's five words, no six good Prime game, bad Metroid Vane.
Speaker 1I can't.
Speaker 3Still good Metroid game?
Speaker 1You got one more?
Speaker 3Good?
Speaker 1Good?
Speaker 3Good?
Speaker 1Good?
Speaker 2Now, dude in three woods better than three great?
Speaker 1Oh that's a good one, thank you.
Speaker 2John Ke.
Speaker 1There's a big rock in the desert that's covered in demons and promoting some kind of video game.
It's not Diablo, it's not God of War.
Okay, so what's that rock?
Speaker 3Name?
Speaker 1That rock name?
That rock is named Kurt Billy Billy the Rock.
Speaker 2Okay, so what we're talking about game awards?
What's that announcement?
Speaker 1It's just well, it's just a rock, that's the whole thing.
No one knows that it is.
Speaker 2Maybe it's Dye the Rock Johnson's tequila so we can all enjoy our gaming.
Speaker 1What's what is he?
What do he say that one?
Speaker 2You're enjoy gaming?
Speaker 1But was he like, I'm in my metal fortress.
Speaker 2I'm in my metal my big metal fortresses, Solitude at the gym, enjoy your gaming.
That was a summer game first though, that wasn't teaching, so.
Speaker 1It's gonna be there.
So the Duyne the Rock Johnson is going to be is going to emerge from that rock.
Speaker 2I feel his stop powers on there.
Speaker 1And uh well yeah, that's every more reason for him to do this.
It's like because they're not using Dwayne the Rock Johnson as like, it's like it's not like, hey, guys, the Rock, Dwayne the Rock Johnson standing in the desert.
Speaker 2Well he's rebranded.
He's just DWAYN Johnson.
Speaker 1Okay, so they're not exactly so maybe he's trying to own it back.
Speaker 2This is a w wth.
Speaker 1Yeah, so instead of being because like, I imagine if you saw the post and it's just like guys, Dwayne Johnson standing in the middle of the desert, what does it mean?
That probably wouldn't got as got as much attention.
Probably people would probably be concerned for him after several days, as if they just put a mysterious rock with a bunch of with a bunch of like demons and medieval stuff and shields and swords and a thing that glows when the night comes.
So you know, he needs to get his star power back by apparently creating some ritual in the desert.
Speaker 2I mean other than other than Dwayne, what else do you think it actually could be?
I mean, like people the scrollsing eldest scrollsing, Yeah, Sculls six would be sick.
Speaker 3I think they've already confirmed it's not elder scrolls and.
Speaker 2It's not it's war, it's not diabolo.
Speaker 1But has anybody guessed it being like.
Speaker 2The rings?
Speaker 1It doesn't look like.
Speaker 2Wait, can I can we get it up on the on screen on screen?
Speaker 3Please?
Speaker 1Okay?
Speaker 2So there's okay, so we've got.
Speaker 1Little guys, big guys, alligators.
Speaker 2Alligated, but it's also got to human hands.
Speaker 1Yeah, it does have a human arm.
That's pretty that's pretty cool, whatever game this is.
And then this thing which looks like a gate, like it looks good door, yeah right there?
Do you zoom in where all the cnacles are.
My problem is this, I mean it could be D and D.
Yeah, I mean that.
I think my my whole thing is like, this could be any dark fantasy thing, but we don't know about the path of exile D and D A good guest.
Speaker 3I saw someone say legacy a cane maybe.
Speaker 2Well they they confirmed that got canceled though, oh yeah, so what if.
Speaker 3They had already made the rock?
Speaker 1Though?
Yeah, they're like, well.
Speaker 2Yeah, because they had idols.
Montreal had more layoffs.
And one of the devs I think put on his LinkedIn like what they someone like there was a leak about what they were, like what they were working on one of those legas you've cane.
Speaker 3So my actual guess is it is something we've never heard of, completely originalized new I P.
What's the best way to get attention to care about your thing for like a few days before everyone forgets about it.
Speaker 1You get a big rock and then those gates open to the bottom and Duane Johnson walks out of it exactly, Yeah, and it's like, have fun.
What is it?
What does it say?
Speaker 2Enjoy your game?
Speaker 1Enjoy your gaming.
I hope it's I hope it's never revealed.
I hope somebody just made a big deal out of this discull.
I bet you some artists was working on this for a movie set or something, and then Jeff tweeted about it, and then it got taken pic sure of a tweeted, and then that set designer was like, Jeff.
Speaker 2What did Jeff tweet with it?
Did he have like words with it?
Speaker 3Let's find that.
Speaker 1I'm pretty sure he was, just like he tweeted some woods, he did tweet some words.
WHOA, what's that.
Speaker 2Big rock?
Speaker 1Unless evian essence comes out of it?
Speaker 2Well they are, they are.
Speaker 1It's when this is and they come out of it.
Speaker 2Devil my car, right, legal.
Speaker 1Inspiring thickness, which feels very what not uh in line with the tone of that piece.
Speaker 2Inspiring.
Speaker 1Maybe he's just talking about the alligator's arm, because I would agree with that.
Speaker 2I don't know, well, I mean a lot of people are just saying sarahs which is house marks.
Speaker 1That's actually that's a guest.
Speaker 2It's already been already like yeah, and it also like already the old trailer just showcase.
Yeah, it kind of like closed or opened a state of place.
Speaker 1It's like, you know that's right.
Has anybody licked it yet?
Speaker 2The question to you the audience, if you're in Joshua Tree this weekend, I don't like it.
Speaker 1You could be the first Kurt I'm coming to Joshua Tree.
Here we come.
Speaker 2Time for another letter.
Yes, io Interactive says there's going to be a next hit Man after double seven First Light.
Yay, Yeah, that was a legitimate yah.
By the way, I think Hitman World Assassination is one of the best games I've made.
Come up with your dream Hitman level for hit Man four E three.
Speaker 3I have thought about this a lot.
Speaker 2It's E three.
Speaker 3I think I think a gaming convention like E three or a PAX because everyone's in costume and imagine imagine forty seven having to go on stage and like a game, he's like.
Speaker 1Or yeah, he has to be the one who takes over.
Keanu Reeves goes on stage.
Speaker 2Yeah, Like if you think about old E three's they would always be cause on stage, yes, pyrotechnics, uh, people coming out the floor.
You could throw a game controller at someone.
Speaker 3Who can have an io interactive booth.
Speaker 1Yet you can have the like Agent forty like people dressed is Agent forty seven?
Yes, yes, there's like a.
Speaker 3Hit Man game.
There's like a hit Man light game.
Speaker 1So you can even like go into a crowd of other Agent forty sevens.
Speaker 3Yeah, and maybe maybe, like I don't know, they could put like one of the directors or CEOs of the studio in the game and you have to like kill him.
That'd be kind of fun.
Speaker 2That'd be really funny.
Speaker 1That'd be fun, like some just.
Speaker 3Some good lighthearted meta humor.
Speaker 2Yeah, which they have very known.
Speaker 1Yeah, good good lighthearted time just killing people and crowds of other people with with style, with style, and yeah, you know they usually deserve it.
Speaker 2But the thing is is that like your exit out of E three would have to comic whatever this convention is of like have to like wait for an uber for fifteen minutes, just like I'll try walking down the block.
Speaker 1Games com just got the angriest taxi driver he could like cosplay Yes, oh my god, Oh I mean I think I don't know if I could even possibly attempt to do that other than like bingo night.
Yeah, Bingo, I would love to see Bingo.
That would be mine.
I want to see I would so, I know, like we kind of got my dream one, which was the the Mystery Mansion, like the oh yes, yes, like that one's amazing, but I would like I'm a I like old people, and I like old people focused mister, so like an a just an old folks home.
Yes, so I'm a big fan.
So one of my favorite shows is Midsummer Murders.
Speaker 2I know it's about you, which is as someone who grew up with Midsummer Murders, I.
Speaker 1Think I'm the coolest guy in the world.
Speaker 2One small English village apparently a lot.
Speaker 1So I would like to see a version of that in an old folks home on Bingo night, And like you could do it so many ways, because Agent forty seven himself can be the one reading the Bingo numbers out, like he could take that place.
Speaker 2He could be two Fat Ladies, two Fat Ladies eighty.
Speaker 1Eight eighty eight.
Is that two Fat Ladies is.
Speaker 3In the UK?
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah, two fat Ladies.
Speaker 1Two fat ladies, And maybe so people in the UK just know, like eighty eighty eight.
So when you turn eighty eight years old too fat layers?
Is that what they say?
Oh?
Speaker 2Yeah, as soon as you blow out the candles, two fat ladies.
Speaker 1Wow, all right, we don't do that anyway.
So Agent forty seven is going to take down two fat ladies at the bingo night in midsummer midmer murders.
I like that happens.
Speaker 3Well, what would be a kill?
Like how like he throws a one of the bingo balls at them?
Speaker 1And I mean that would be pretty amazing if you just kill someone with bingo?
Speaker 2Yeah, fingerbowl, mixing.
Speaker 1Up medicine, medication?
Speaker 2Are you killing an old person here?
Are you killing, like, you know, someone mean?
Speaker 3Well, you're always killing someone mean, But I assume it's like a mean person who is retired at this old folks home.
Speaker 1And there's also like old folks homes have like movie night, and they also have like, oh, we invited someone to play the piano, Like so you could there's multiple things that could be happening in a single day where it's either bingo or it's playing piano for them, or it's like during a movie, is like during the showing of Casa Blanca.
And I'll be there too in the back crying the entire time.
Wishing that I was old.
I was two fat ladies.
Speaker 2That's that must have been a casino.
Speaker 1Has there been a casino?
Oh, that's another one.
Speaker 2Casino would be.
Speaker 3In a casino.
Speaker 1All right, well there we go.
Three we should do specifically.
Speaker 2Interactive call me, I got.
Speaker 1Ideas and not don't call me apparently, because apparently penguinis good enough for you.
Just call Lucy.
Lucy's got you covered.
Next letter.
In a feat of engineering magic, thanks to the wizards over at Nixies.
They helped develop They helped developer Arrowhead games, get the Hell Divers two's, Held Divers twos kind of like how like saying Metroid feels weird to you?
Held Divers two's it's weird for me.
Speaker 3Yeah.
Speaker 1Installs, install size, I'm just having a really hard time with this one on PC down from one hundred and fifty four gigs to twenty three gigs.
So Mixis helped carve out what was that like, over one hundred, one hundred and twenty one hundred and thirty one hundred and thirty.
Speaker 2Who that is a Nixies big job.
Speaker 1Do it for everything and all the call they.
Speaker 2Do, all the PlayStation.
Speaker 1Oh they do, okay, owned by PlayStation.
I think they are Wait, you can do this?
What why don't all games do this?
Well?
Speaker 2I think it's because they're a specialist studio.
Speaker 1Yeah, well so what's but like, what's going on?
You know it's because they're magicians nixies also rhymes rhymes with pixies.
Well, let's play a quick route of guess the install size, and then let's try and shave some of these off.
Speaker 3Okay, oh, this is courtesy of a article from game Rant where they have the large they have the nineteen I don't know why nineteen, but they have the nineteen largest install sizes on PC all.
Speaker 2Of juicy well with all the crap.
Speaker 3So we're not going to go through all of them, but we have a couple of them.
Speaker 1Yeah, Eclogy is not even on this.
Wow.
All right, So first up God of War Ragnarock on PC.
Yes, I sixty five was gonna say.
I feel like I was gonna say eighty.
Speaker 3Two, eighty three to be specific, And what did you think sixty five, one hundred and ninety.
Speaker 1What what for all those?
Speaker 2I gotta think bigger.
I gotta think bigger.
Speaker 1Okay, next up, I'm gonna be lost on this one.
Yeah, Arc Survival evolved.
This one's weird to me.
I think it's talk too.
By the way, that was diesel maybe vin Diesels coming out of the rock.
If this is walk to if that, if everyone just forgot I'm gonna say I'm gonna be a little conservative and say one hundred and nine.
Speaker 2Gigs, Okay, I said one hundred and fifty.
Speaker 3One hundred and seventy one.
Speaker 1Oh, well you were closer.
Wow, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Oh my god?
Uh one thirty five, one sixty one sixty Wow.
I what do you think all those gigs went to in that game?
Speaker 2All those side quests?
Speaker 1Never Bowler's Gay three.
Speaker 2I feel like this bolder is not is about one hundred.
It's either eighty something one hundred and ten.
I don't think it's that bad.
Speaker 1I think it's over one hundred because I remember having to install it on my steam I think it's one so god, I was gonna say it best.
I'll say one hundred and eight, one hundred and fifty.
Speaker 2Oh, I thought it was smaller.
Speaker 1How did I fit that on my steam deck?
Speaker 2I think I put mine on my I think I could put mine on my little cord.
Speaker 1Well, you nailed the Valhalla all right, Valalhalla valjlame.
Speaker 2That was someone I think they want to grammy or something.
And the guy was like, for Assassin's creedal.
Speaker 1You think, come on man, uh, digital combat simulator.
Speaker 2I don't know what that is, but because it's one hundred, yeah it's on there, I'm going to say two hundred and seventeen.
It's like the biggest Yeah, it is three and twelve, two hundred basinstall.
However, if you were two put in all the DLCs, you could have up to a terabyte.
Speaker 1Yeah, let's go.
Speaker 3Yes, it is a flight like combat simulator game that is probably just horribly, horribly unoptimized.
Speaker 1Get Nixie's on it.
Speaker 3They can get that file sized.
Speaker 1But maybe they want it.
But maybe those gamers want it that way.
They want to be like I think so terte.
Speaker 2They want those texts.
Speaker 1I got a terabyte of digital combat simulation on my PC.
Speaker 3Bro.
Speaker 1Yeah, come over, come on over and let me show you these bullets.
Speaker 2Rendered it for eight.
Speaker 1K and performed at twenty seven frames per second.
It's moving so slow.
You can just see the boat flying through air.
Speaker 2Okay, okay, another letter Goldfish that took down one of El elden Ring's Toughest Bosses has died.
Speaker 1Tortellini right.
Speaker 2Her name was Tortellini and they played elden Ring and other games using a motion sensor.
Pull one out for Tortellini.
I still have some coffee in here, so I'm not actually.
Speaker 1I'm going to do I'm going to do it.
Yeah, I guess sure.
Speaker 2Number one, what's your favorite extreme challenge or crazy way you've seen someone beat a game?
Speaker 1Well, this is exclusively a Lucy joint because she is obsessed with games done quick.
Speaker 2Yes.
I also got my YouTube recap this week, and apparently the only things I'm interested in challenge runs, speed runs and interior design and miniature craft.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, yeah, so.
Speaker 2Yeah, I watch a lot of Note four, Alexandre Gatsa, Sorry Girls, but then like Lil Aggie, Captain Domo, who's the Tomato Tomato Anus Star Zero Chris Anyway, So I mean my extreme challenge crazy way you've seen someone being game is elden Ring Bingo, Like, no question.
I think elden Ring Bingo Bingo in general is one of the coolest things to happen to challenge.
Speaker 1Like to play.
I thought you should have just stopped at.
Bingo's one of the coolest things that's happened period.
Speaker 2It's one of the coolest things that happened in games and let's plays and competitions in general.
So bingo or bingis is there are multiple ways to do challenge runs in Eldon Ring.
There are so many great runs from like Bushy Little Aggie, no hit Melee, weapons only spells only, you know, Ashes of War only like you can do so many things in that game.
What bingo does is it's a five by five grid and it gives different options.
So basically the you have to get from start of the game to completion or sometimes do the DLC two five by five with objectives, and so both players get the same board of objectives, and those objectives could be something as simple as like get two armos sets or get one level up to plus seven, or some of them will be defeated boss with only using Parry's you know like I.
Each person gets the same grid, and so it's not only a skill of who can do the things on the grid, but it's also a mind game to check that you can score a bingo like a line horizontally vertically on the diagonal and like you're trying to figure out where your opponent is going if you can block them off.
Speaker 1So it's like it's bingo, like you have to but are the boards competing too, so if somebody starts to go across the way, you can block that from happening.
So it's like connect the four or whatever they like, connect basically and then oh that's intense.
Speaker 2Oh it's incredible.
There is one GDQ run Where was it?
Adf and Captain delmar I forget who was I think it was those two, but they did like stuff.
One of them was a second behind the other one doing the same objective.
It's you get these amazing moments of synergy like that.
It's really great and I think season five is ongoing now, just finished.
That's my thing.
That's I like the guy who beat a game with a banana, Donkey k.
Speaker 1You guys talk all day about, Hey, what's your favorite way to be games?
I just like Donkey Kom and his bananas.
He's he's always about.
He's always about.
You know.
Speaker 2No, there's a guy who like beat the one of the games, but he's a banana as a control.
Speaker 1Yeah, like hooked up banana And it was like century for his hands, so he just like beat a game.
I'm not as versed clearly as you are when it comes to people playing games and uh really constructive cool, you know, life forwarding ways.
I I just don't watch people the games, okay, but you know I would.
I imagine if you told me Bingo is the then I'd be like, I'll give it a shot.
I would watch it with you.
How's that?
And I would eat like chips and drink something.
Speaker 3That banana thing is really easy to set up.
We could do that sometimes.
Speaker 1Well, then let's do it.
Let's let's us like, I want to watch you beat a game with a banana.
Speaker 2Follow up question, what crazy challenge do you think you could actually pull off?
Speaker 1I could, I could easily.
I'm very confident this.
I believe I could play through dragons Layer in one shot with wire has looked up to a banana.
But I also don't think that's that crazy because dragons Layer is nothing but four directions and a button and you basically just wait for your the thing that happen otherwise hmmm, oh you know what I would be I would be I've I would be willing to try playing Resonable for remake and a two and a half hour run with like like the professional run.
Yeah, like on a toilet.
Speaker 2Oh, there are some runs of people that people do where it's can I get every achievement in residueable?
Or can I, you know, beat the game on Madhouse and return it in the Steam refund?
Really those are really good speeds to watch.
Speaker 1That's I like that.
Yeah, I feel like the games that I know I could play already really well are is like resnu Be four remake.
I'm pretty confident I can.
I can slam through that or the original revenue for with an object that is inconvenient for me to hold, like while like having something squeeze between my thighs like a watermelon.
Speaker 2Did you answer, Oh, I don't think I could do a challenge round?
What am I good?
Speaker 1Mass Effect, legendary edition whatever they call it difficulty?
Speaker 2I would love to let him ask speed one okay, but I don't think they're actually that interesting, Like a real cool speed one to do would be dishonored.
But I don't think.
I don't think I'm twitchy enough for speed ones.
I don't think i'm good enough souls games to do speed ones.
Peggle letter time letter time.
Speaker 1You're putting together a home arcade with three single game cabinets where this come from one activity ski ball, Papa shot, et cetera, and one pinball.
Okay, what are you choosing?
So three three single game cabinets, one activity thing and then one pinball?
What are you?
What are you choosing?
What are you doing to go from?
Speaker 2All right, Spencer, just really think about.
Speaker 1Spencer's this is this is Spencer Gilbert trying to figure out his home market.
Yeah, what I put inside of activity.
Speaker 2Wise shoot some hoops or skebell.
I actually do really like ski.
Speaker 1Ball, sky ball is good.
Speaker 2What's it?
Speaker 1Go for it?
Speaker 2Three single game cabinets, one activity, one pinball?
I think I would have fun house.
Speaker 1That's what my uh, that's what I used to that's my best My best friend used to be called fun.
Speaker 2House because of the pinmull machine.
Speaker 1No, because he had before he got before you had a dentist for and people used to call him fun house.
That's really messed up.
So whenever I see that arcade cabinet, I think of my uh cool friend, my old buddy bell.
Speaker 2Uh.
Speaker 1Well, I love you a lot, you know, if you've watched it.
Speaker 2I love you, but the pinball machine not all the sopranos.
The pinball machine very fun.
And there's three single game cabinets, so uh would need like a House of the Dead?
Speaker 1Oh well one though one or two specifically?
Oh no, the answer is too although I do have an infinity towards one.
Speaker 2But one one of those was like a bike.
Speaker 1Yeah, just one of those.
Speaker 2One of those bike ones.
Maybe a Mario caught one.
Speaker 1Yeah, a little bike.
Yeah.
Speaker 2And I don't know how I play much at the arcade.
I would Simpsons Simpson That Kill a Queen if I had loads of friends my house all the time alone.
Speaker 1Uh, the Simpsons ArKade game is great.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1There's a place when I was growing up called Docs Fund Center and it was a pay by the hour.
You didn't have to use quarters.
And I would just go and play that Simpsons Arcade game and just beat it because I could just like put in as many lives as I want.
Speaker 2I love the Lisa face where it's like embrace nothingness.
Speaker 1Yeah, that's great.
Does where does a claw machine fall under this?
Speaker 2That's activity?
Speaker 1That would be an activity.
So I would get a claw machine and fill it with like jell o.
So and if people came over and be like, you want asert over the claw machine.
Speaker 2I saw a little hack on how to actually do a claw machine.
It's like something about like moving it back and forward, so it like get some momentum.
Speaker 1My.
My most prize moment in my life is when I I like to do claw machines.
When I look at them, so I'm like turn and look at somebody else.
And there was one time I did it and it pulled up two and it was like the greatest all of my life because the person I did to has like anxiety over like losing things like why do you do it?
Stop doing that?
Why are you doing that?
And then it happened.
I would like claw machines and I would want to fill it up with like food and desserts like jello and cake.
Yeah, and you know no, no, no, So you're never getting that gell out of the tump it in.
If people come over, hey it's a dessert time.
I'll turn to the to my old claw machine.
Yeah yeah, ski ball, Oh so it's like that's my one II Yeah, pinball.
I would shoot use probably the X Files one.
Yeah, just I've never even played it.
I just to me it would just be like a like that, look at that.
The toilet zone one is really good too, so you know that one's fine.
Three arcade games bubbleb I love Bubble Bubble Bubble so good, but that wouldn't be my pick.
I don't want anything.
I enjoy Dragons Layer one, Space Ace, which is the follow up Asteroids.
Astrays is too good.
Asteroids is good.
And then the third one would be Pong.
Pong is a good one too.
Speaker 2Who enjoys pong?
What do you mean to enjoy joyong?
Speaker 1You want to play pong sometimes.
See if you enjoy it, you will enjoy it.
You're gonna play pong with me and be like, wow, Kurry, this is so much fun real life.
I'll do that too.
Speaker 2I don't play Pickable.
I've never played Pickable.
I used to play tennis.
Speaker 1And smash tv omkay m hmm.
Sure.
Speaker 2What's the arcade called arcade?
Speaker 1It's called uh, pay me or get out, pay for your games, or leave, take and take some cake on the way.
Speaker 2Yeah, mine will be Lucy James Games quarter Round.
It's also a d I y shup okay let beer mail.
Hey, you can email.
Speaker 1Us to cover games.
Speaker 2This is from you know what I'll say the name end, Okay, Lucy john Nick and Snort snurts snail Kurt does.
Speaker 1It say specifically Snail Curt Seasons Greetings.
I stepped on the snail once and I fucking destroyed my life.
I was so upset, So that hits hard Seasons Greetings.
Speaker 2I'm a big reader, and for a while that felt at odds with my love for gaming.
Okay, and I've now reconciled these feelings as I've encountered more people who share these seemingly desperate hobbies, like Lucy.
Speaker 1Wait, wait what, I've made entire videos about my hobbies of reading books and playing video games.
I feel like Lucy, Okay, whatever, go ahead.
Speaker 2Still, I feel like the ven diagram of reading books and playing games has a very small overlap, and I wish it was bigger.
What book would you like to see a game based on or inspired by?
Personally?
I think Ace Brandon Sanderson book would be the easiest to adapt, since I've met many gamers who use miss Born as they get back into reading book.
Thanks for the hard work you do, Snichele Snichel, Snail Michael, Snail Michael, I've seen I've seen miss borne get thrown around a lot for these kind of questions because it has a really cool like magic system, okay with very uh you like set rules and stuff.
You've read a book?
Speaker 1Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, no, I've definitely I've read it half of one, maybe once or twice.
If you're interested.
I made a video.
I'm just gonna plug it real quick.
That's about It was actually like my steam deck video that I made in twenty twenty two or something like that.
But there's the The reason why the steam Deck hit me so hard a certain point is because it made me realize that it allowed me to engage with games in the same way I engage with books, which is usually in micro moments where I get to read a few pages and move on between other hot chores and all that jazz.
And the steam Deck enabled that for games that I otherwise wouldn't be able to take the time to do that for So I always was like I started treating my gaming as I would reading books, because I read a lot of books two and I play a lot of games.
Yeah, so this is a thing.
This is like a constant sort of dilemma for me.
Anyways, The thing is the books I read I'm having a hard time imagining.
Speaker 2I'm also like racking my brain for all the books that I've read recently to try and like like there's hmmm.
I mean, I read a book copies ago called The Seven and a half Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, I believe seven and a half deaths of someone, and it was a murder mystery type thing where each morning the person woke up in a different person's body and so followed the same routine.
And maybe it's just because I'm very blake man aippilled at the moment where it's kind of hitting the same vibes.
It is like an investigative book, and he was an investigative story and he was following all the leads to try and figure out who's going to harm this person.
Something like that could be quite cool.
I'm reading The Tainted Cup at the moment.
The Cup, well, it's basically a Sherlock and Watson esque but in a world where in a world where it's all about out like instead of technology, they've focused more on agriculture and plants and horticulture and so like someone is killed with a plant with a tree growing out and they're all augmented you know they do that in what game?
Speaker 1They do that in what?
Well?
Speaker 2They but no, so it's like it's already like a green hmm.
I don't know, but that's saying it's like the books read like this year, what I read the Virgin Suicide.
I read Imperfect Creatures, which is a like a House of Leaves twin Peaks, Alan Wakey kind of story.
Speaker 1Par that's the one.
Speaker 2But like unless it was a missed type.
Speaker 1Game, Yeah, well the thing so I was thinking about this.
Speaker 2The History of Rome Mary Duncan, no Mary Beard.
Mike Duncan is the one who did the podcast.
Mary Beard did the book.
Speaker 1This year is the first year that I read all of the Stralack Holmes books.
And I also, no one's ever made a game, and that's what I'm saying.
I was like, well, that's already been done.
I also read a lot of detective fiction and those there's been a lot of games that have basically like already adapted those stories.
Because like this year, for the first time I was reading read Harvest by Dashill Hammett.
It was his first book before he did The multie Fulcan, and obviously the multice Fulcan has inspired the entire genre of detective fiction and all that jazz.
Over the last year, I became very obsessed with the writer Paul Auster, but his books have a very The reason why the poster so much is that his books feel like books written by a writer about writing, so they oftentimes kind of topple over themselves in a pseudo metafiction way that gives a sense of like self awareness.
It kind of it really fools you because you're reading it often through first person of a thing, and then it's not until the mid latter half of the book you realize that you're reading a thing that this writer is writing.
It's very it's great, but like it's so it's harder from me to say I would love to see video games adapt a Poloster book, but I love to see video games be more challenging in the way they make games about games.
And that's probably why I'm obsessed with Warline Laser Rise.
But that is a really interesting, cool question, and I do think there's a lot of overlap in games and books, and I would I often sometimes often sometimes I believe I would make the argument that games, I don't think games other medium should be compared to other mediums.
But if I had to choose, I think video games are more in line with the literature medium.
Then I would say movies or TV shows.
And this is a stupid little thing, but I would say even when you're reading a book, you have player agency to churn the page.
That story doesn't continue, you physically churn it.
Yeah, Otherwise you can just put it down.
It's like pressing up button to keep going.
Am I writer?
Am I right?
Also there's a sense of agency because you have to imagine what you're reading, like you have to be a to put yourself So there's anyways, that's my little rant about it.
To answer your question, just off the top of my head really quick.
Damn this is sword hold on I Oh no, man, the g Man the biography of of I don't know what am I sying right now?
Jangar Hoover all right, see uh see that guy has troubled history.
Okay, Okay, thank you Snichele.
Next letter, it's time for Kurt and Lucy touchgrass.
Oh yes, please exitement where we recommend some completely unrelated from video games.
Okay, wouldn't you know we're just talking about books for a while.
Boy, I love recommending stuff that doesn't game related.
How about you?
What do you got today?
Speaker 2I have been very much enjoy Oh you know, Health has a few new songs.
New album coming out, So You Died is the one I've been listening to a lot, very very catchy and very catchy.
I've been listening to a bunch of music.
Roussalia's album Oh My God Looks, which is beautiful.
Yeah I mean, and also yeah, I've been trying to get back into reading more.
So I started reading, like I said, The Tainted Cup, which is quite good.
But I also went to the bookstore at the weekend.
I bought Neuromanca by William Gibson Is It?
And then This Is How We Lose the Time War?
And I bought Andy Weier's project Hill Mary because I want to see the film, but I have not watched the trailers, so allegedly the trailers.
Speaker 1I want to read the thing before.
Speaker 2Like when I was at Bonds and Noble, the woman was like, oh, here it is, and she handed me a picture of the cover with Ryan Gosling.
When I was like, no, I need to get that man out of here, get him out.
I need to cover without it just say soon to be a major motion picture.
I was like, that's fine, as long as it's not the movie post.
Speaker 3I don't know.
Speaker 2I'm weird about that.
So I got to like a lot of books in my backlog.
Go Kez McDonald's book about Nintendo.
Yeah, I'm excited to do a lot of reading over the holidays.
Speaker 1All right, miss fancy pants, sorry for books and literature.
While I'm reading friends cough goa for the first shut which is true.
I'm all this after all these years and every one of their cough gos cough cull like I'm doing that to you?
Do I recommend it?
I don't know yet.
I'm not that type of guy.
We'll see.
I gotta finish.
I'm reading like two of his books at once.
But if I had, you know, if I ether recommend something.
I listened to a lot of music.
I talk about music, but it's not going to be new music today.
I was if you don't already know, I'm starting.
I'm watching Law and Order SVU start from the beginning so excitfully, and I got to the second season and I'm halfway through the second season where none other an iced tea has joined the count?
Speaker 2Does he not know that I didn't, okay.
Speaker 1But I haven't really been able to, like I've always known, like, oh man, it's Iced Tea.
It's the guy who always plays a cop, who famously made a song called cop Killer, which was banned and taken off the store shelves for his hardcore thrash band body Count.
And I've always known about this, but I like, it just slipped the mind as I'm watching Tatula wherever his name is, I think it's Tottula, it's munch munch in Tututula or Tutula, Tatula, Tututula.
I can't, I'm sorry.
I'm like, that's his name.
And he's so like stoic and serious and like to the point, and I was like, man, I gotta, I gotta like, what is his music career?
Speaker 3Like?
Speaker 1Now?
Little did I know that that body Count is still putting out records this day.
They put out a record in twenty twenty four.
But and I also learned that they've got a Grammy for Best Metal Performance for a song called bum Rush and it rules It is so good so and that came out in twenty twenty.
So Iced Tea is killing it, still killing it.
But then I went back a little further.
I don't know how I missed this era of the internet, because this is twenty fourteen.
He covered body count covered a song called Institutionalized by another hardcore thrash band named Suicidal Tendencies.
They put that song out like the early eighties.
It's one of my favorite songs because it has this infamous It's a great song, but it has this infamous thing where like this dude is basically just like talking through this like metal riff.
He said, I just want a PEPSI Mom, just give me a pepsy.
She's like, you gotta have a pepsy, You're crazy, and he's just rambling.
Iced Tea covered this song but changed all the lyrics to match his problems of today.
I don't want to say a lot of those things on this show, but if there's anything you walk away with from this, go listen to body Counts institutional and you will feel it.
You will relate to it, especially if all you want to do is play your Xbox and I'll leave it at that.
Speaker 2Oh hang on, that's rung a bell now, yeah, hang.
Speaker 1On that rock anyways, that's my go touch grass.
Listen to listen to the body.
Speaker 2Count, listen to Health and Oh.
Three Bean Salad is back on the Many.
It's my favorite podcast podcast, podcast three Bean Salad.
Thank you very much for listening to another episode of Curtain.
Lucy, gotcha covered?
No cut?
How are we going to be back the same time next week?
Speaker 1You know we're not gonna but there's a reason.
Did you know that there's a giant rock in the desert.
Speaker 2I've heard tell about this giant rock in the desert.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Also there's a chance whatever that rock is, it's origins, what it does, may be revealed at the Game a Wall next week, and we're gonna be there.
Speaker 3We are.
