THE HORROR SEQUEL DRAFT EPISODE

Episode Transcript

Hello.

Hello.

Welcome back to the pod in the Pendulum.

This is the podcast where we typically talk about franchises one movie at a time.

None.

I am not Mike Snoonian.

This is Devon Taylor taking over the wheel.

And the podcasting gods did not want it to happen as I we've been battling tech issues and I made us extremely late.

Good stuff.

Good way to start the episode.

But don't worry, our fearless leader, he is still here.

Mr.

Mike Snoonian, how you doing?

Doing great and it's kind of nice not realizing that I'm not the only one that can have these technical issues and cause us to be late.

It's kind of nice.

I'm like, oh, it's just technology.

So it was weird sitting in the not, you know, I don't have any notes.

I don't haven't done like hours of prep.

So it's a little weird, but I am excited and I know we're incapable hands.

People loved it.

I saw some comments on the the last episode on our movie marathon saying we love Mike as like in like the like regular roles and you get to you got to let loose.

People dug it.

Excellent.

Where did you see those?

I have not.

It was either on, it was either on Blue Sky or it was on the Spotify comments, one of the two.

Somebody, somebody mentioned it that they said love here and might get to let loose.

Yeah, it's a different interview.

I don't really hold that.

I did cut like the really offensive joke from the the 1 and I won't say what it was like.

Which one I did cut the really bad offensive, you know about a dead child.

That one I I did.

Cut Well, now it's back cannon again.

Look at that again.

The energy is different around here.

This episode we have Mr.

the we have host of the disenfranchised podcast, Mr.

Steven Foxworthy.

How we doing Chewie?

Doing great Devon, happy to be here.

I have no idea what I'm doing and I could not be more excited.

And rounding out the crew, we have Ryder for Bully.

Disgusting in many other places.

Welcome, Mr.

Brian Kuiper.

Hey, how's it going?

Nice to be here.

We're.

Going It's a dude's day.

We're sweaty.

I'm sweaty at least actually.

But we are doing a fun episode, another Halloween special.

Man, we've been spoiling you guys this year.

The 300th episode bonanza.

And then we get 2 Halloween specials this month.

Man, we are really doing it big IN2025I.

Think we just don't want to do Alien versus Predator Requiem, I think.

That's.

I think this.

Is why.

We keep like pushing the main feed episodes.

Ultimately, yes, we are.

We are really procrastinating in a franchise.

I hey, somebody had to say it.

You said it might, not us.

I did have a client this week say that he's watching Alien versus Predator Requiem at home and I'm like, how are you watching it?

You can't see anything.

He's like, I noticed that.

So it was kind of a riot.

Like we somehow at the end of our session we got talking about like sci-fi and Alien and Prometheus a little bit, which is always fun.

And because I think he said he saw a trailer for Predator Badlands.

He's like, what's this garbage?

And I'm like, that actually looks really good and here's why.

And now he's going through all the Alien Predator movies again.

So you know, basically you pay me 150 bucks an hour and I will recommend.

Sci-fi horror movies for.

You to watch, you know, one of the positive things about our delay is that hey, we're going to be able to cover predator Badlands more or less in like real time, you know it'll be part of the series rather than sort of separated from so.

That's something we have to come back later to.

I think we had timed it out that way pretty well.

Like it did fall, but like it'll give more people a chance to see it, which is really good because we'll end with that.

I think the last two we're doing are Killer Killers and Predator Badlands, so we have.

The forgotten Predator movie Killer of killers.

Yeah, we have five more Predator movies to get through.

Like November is going to be Predator month, then December we get into the Psycho movies and then I think The Omen and then Creep.

So kind of.

Man, whoever hasn't seen Psycho 2, I'm so excited.

Hi, that's me.

It's me.

I'm.

I'm the one who hasn't seen it yet.

Psycho 2's great.

In fact, I feel like I need to be.

On all the.

Psychos episodes because I made an offhanded comment once on Disenfranchise and all the Psycho sequels sucked and everyone got mad at me.

And then I was like, I was on that episode, so.

Psycho 2 was excellent psycho.

Two, you and Tucker got very mad at.

Me I'm I'm a defender of Psycho 3.

Psycho 3 is also like, it's fun.

They're all, they're all pretty solid, actually.

Brian also not 4.

The franchise though is 4 though.

Let's be very.

Clear on who's is?

Did you say who's is?

Brian OK, but I'm just I'm adding to the Laura Brian the the.

Fictional Laura that we.

Spin here on this franchise regarding.

Brian built me up in their minds in ways that I can never live up to and I wouldn't have any other way.

I'm like, I'm like Norm's wife on Cheers.

It's like they can never show her because they had just built her up too much.

I held off on posting this the other night when I posted.

Like what would Brian do when I came to watch people under the stairs?

But like I was originally going to say, my original thought is like Brian would dress like a tiny cat in like an Evel Knievel costume and then have him put him on a little RC car and have them try to jump like a bunch of like Lego buses.

But I didn't put that online because that just seemed like a lot to type out at 11.

I was going to.

Say that joke would entertain four people.

Yeah.

Sometimes the.

Four people in this room right here.

Sorry, guys, thought no worries.

Thought there was an Omar.

Go ahead.

We've been keeping it going so.

This is a new type of episode we'll be doing first time ever.

I want to introduce like a little little game aspect to a typical list ranking.

This is kind of a Frankenstein of I've been calling it a draft, but then everybody doesn't like sports.

So then draft was like intimidating people.

So call this the pod and Pendulum All Stars episode.

We are, we are making our top five All Stars of franchises we've covered, but we will be picking movies that are only sequels or prequels.

So this is everybody will be coming up with their top five favorite sequels or prequels from franchises that we've covered here on the Ponton Pendulum.

I know Chewie has a spreadsheet going.

Maybe if, if anybody knows or if Mike knows off the top of your head how many franchises we've done because I, I was going to count that.

Closing it in 40.

It's, I think we're up to, we're up to 38 counting Predator right now.

OK, there we go.

So that's the amount of franchises that are on the board.

There's still many more to come, of course, but we're going to celebrate.

But we're going to celebrate what we have talked about.

So this is the way that the game will be working.

Everybody, I told everybody have 5 to 10 of their favorites on hand because they are not guaranteed to get them.

We will be selecting in a snake style order.

So if you guys have done fantasy football, the way is snake style works is you go 1234 and then it goes backwards 4321 and then it loops back around that way.

Hence the snake aspect.

The way we are going to determine that is by our favorite piece of Internet technology, wheelofnames.com.

Yes, yes, this episode sponsored by wheelofnames.com.

That will be sweet.

Sweet sponsor.

Cash.

That will be selecting the order in which every round everybody will pick one movie to add to their All Stars list of five.

Is that clear?

Have I lost anybody yet?

I think the only question I had is there categories like?

Is it like?

No.

OK, fit that clear stuff.

Now in.

Terms of when?

We're in terms of when we're selecting, are we selecting any movie in any order across our top five or?

Any movie in a.

Particular order for us.

So you pick your movies in importance of them being on your list, because once it is picked, it cannot be on somebody else's list.

It is ex Snade, so everybody will have their own independent list, but once one is picked it is gone.

We we cannot double.

That OK.

That was that was my biggest question.

OK, OK.

I thought we were just doing.

Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

That's why Mike was talking about can we get 10 movies?

I was like, no, no, that's too way too many.

Compromise and do 37 because.

Yes.

Divides evenly into 5.

South friends, I'm going to need y'all to read my mind, OK?

Because you know.

I've already, I think I've already done a pretty good job of reading your mind, Brian.

And I'm going to say right now, you're in trouble.

So so again, think of it, these are think of it.

So think of it, these are your these are your five.

This is your basketball team to play everyone else.

You can't have the same player on everybody's teams.

So you gotcha are.

We allowed to be mean to one another of.

Course you can mind games are encouraged they I I do want to see some manipulation.

But not only that there will be specials added into this.

Everybody will have a special item to use to shake up the the pics here.

So the first special is the steal.

Everybody gets one steal, somebody will get 2.

But for right now, everybody here, all four of us get one steal.

So if somebody, if you want to pick a movie that somebody also has picked, you want that movie, you can steal it from them.

That is your pick.

You steal that and then that person will then replace that movie on their list with a different movie.

Does that make sense?

I have one other question.

Can there only be 1 franchise?

I thought we were doing one movie per franchise, Meaning you can't have like 2 Elm Streets 2 Friday the 13th.

Like totaled out of the 20 picks we're going to have, it's going to represent 20 franchises, Correct?

Excellent.

Oh good.

I want to make Brian curse on this episode.

I want him to curse me out, that's what.

Well, maybe you're team.

Maybe.

You're not reading my mind as much as you think you are.

So yes, another, another good thing to keep in mind is once that franchise is off the board, is off the board, that is yours.

So, but yes, everyone will have one steal, somebody will end up with two.

We will determine who gets what here in a minute.

The 2nd special is called Double Trouble.

Double Trouble is when you you challenge another host to a trivia question.

Whoever gets it right gets 2 picks that round.

Whoever gets it wrong, they don't get that X, they don't get that pick back until the end at the end of at the end of the picks.

So we will like continue the rounds on and then there will be an ancillary round for that person to make up that pic.

Got it.

I have one other question.

How do we handle things like David Cronenberg's The Fly, which is the first film in that series, but the third Fly or 4th Fly movie overall?

Is that considered a sequel or is it its own thing?

That is the The Fly is off the table.

It is That is the first film in its own trilogy.

We covered it as the the property as a whole.

Same with like the Yeah.

So when you think of remakes, remakes that is its own series that can be itself.

There's a sequel to the remake.

All our text has chainsaw.

Yes.

OK, yes.

Understand, so we're not we, we're creating our team.

So it's not necessarily like a rank, it's not a rank.

These are your favorites.

It's not a ranking, but these are your favorites.

So you want to get your ones you absolutely want?

The ones.

You nail those down as soon as possible.

The ones you love, pick the ones you are going to fight for, that you want towards the top.

These are your favorites.

Gotcha.

It does double trouble.

Does that special make sense to everybody?

I believe so.

And the third special is called Clean slate.

This is who this only applies.

You'll see the way that these are divvied up because only certain people can have these.

So whoever is the last pick of the round can force everyone to drop their last picks and start the round over, sending those picks to the graveyard.

Those are those are ineligible after that and then this person makes their pick and we start that round over.

So basically I'm sweating right now.

This is going to be I am.

Oh man, I have no idea what we're in for here.

Wow, this is.

Good on you are a math.

So.

So I will.

There are four people, so I will not have specials for the sake of hosting the shenanigans.

I will not have a special myself.

Only you 3 will and it kind of depends on where you end up picking because the clean slate only works for a certain pick.

The double trouble only works for a certain pick.

So we are going to, I'm moving over to the wheel.

That wheel is back to determine the order from everybody.

All right, I'm doing it on my phone.

I'll show you on my camera for you guys.

Spinning now.

Alrighty, we're slowing down, Brian.

Yeah, will be starting.

So you will have the pick at #1 Number one overall to Mr.

Brian Kuiper, congratulations.

OK, so do I.

Are we spending everyone?

Yes, I'm spending everyone.

Yes.

OK, so I.

Another spin, another spin happening.

So here, another spin happening and it landed on me.

Devon.

All right, I am #2IN depicts order and.

Wheel so I will probably be last.

The last wheel spin determining it landed on blue.

It has Mike.

OK, Mike has #3 and then Chewy.

That leaves you with #4.

Predictably, yes.

But it is, you know, snake order.

So it's.

So, so, so start thinking now you got to strategize because Brian, you pick #1 but then you don't pick again for a few because you have to wait for it to come back to you.

Chewy, you'll be the first one to have back-to-back picks at the end of one round starting the next round.

So use that to think about where you'll be.

So the way that that ends up shaking out to be is as far as the specials go, since I don't have a special, I'm taken out and the only person at pick three allowed to have double trouble is Mike because of the way that that mechanic works.

So, Mike?

And remind me double trouble is.

You'll challenge another host to a set of trivia questions.

Two out of three.

Whoever gets 2 out of 3 correct gets 2 picks for that current round.

And then whoever loses, they don't get that make up pick until the end.

So that's a high stakes trivia challenge.

So, so Mike throughout thinking you'll play that whenever it's like your turn, whenever it can be in whatever round you want to use that in, and we will deal with it then.

So Mike will draw the double trouble now to determine this other one because this could go to picks one or four.

So I will be issuing 1 trivia question between Mr.

Brian Kuiper and Chewie and whoever gets this trivia question right gets to pick if they want 2 steals or if they want the clean slate.

All righty, I'm going to hit you at the trivia question buzzing with your name, the.

Cones of Dunshire are in Parks and Rec.

Yeah, with the rules.

Mike, it's about the cones.

Yes.

Once we get rolling, you'll see it.

It's pretty simple, we just got to get through it.

But I didn't want to post all these in the Slack channel because then the questions would have been even confused.

More confusing.

OK, so I went this route instead.

We're good, we're good.

This makes.

The right decision, Devon.

All right, so Ryan and Chewie, get ready for a trivia question, wait till I finish the question and buzz in with your name if you know the answer.

OK, you guys are right with your name except.

This isn't for you, Mike.

This is for.

Brian.

Yeah.

Yes.

Mike, you are not in this.

OK.

Frank Grillo leads the 2nd and 3rd installments of the Purge franchise.

Can anyone tell me, including his police rank, his character name?

No, I know.

He's just kind of a guy, you know?

That's why I thought this would be a funny one I won't give you.

Seen any but?

He is.

He is, Sergeant, if that helps.

Nope.

All right, That is Sergeant Leo Barnes, everybody.

Your favorite horror action protagonist?

Sergeant Leo Barnes, played by Frank Grillo.

OK.

I'm.

Not OK, I'll scale back.

I'll scale back.

OK, I know most of us had already guested on episodes in the podcast before becoming an official crew of rotating hosts.

What was the first franchise we covered as an official crew?

Brian, Dang it.

Brian.

Sorry, I I was thinking the show entirely sorry.

I I I'm not sure.

This was in January of 2022.

Can I guess just for shits and giggles if they don't get.

It you probably know already, I.

Don't.

It's my memory is not the best.

I'm gonna, I think I have an idea.

Can I buzz in again?

You already buzzed in, Brian.

Chewie, do you have a guess?

Well, you have a.

Guess is my guess is saw.

Wrong reset.

I can do that.

Brian.

Brian.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Wrong Chewie.

Man, I'm have to write some more trivia questions now for the for the double trouble.

Now I'm have to come up with some more.

OK.

I'm moving on to another question.

Is it Hell House LLC?

Wrong.

It's child's play, child's playing.

Chucky was the like kind of official everybody together going going forward.

All righty all right.

This one seems to be a fun popular 1.

Michael Caine won an Oscar but could not receive it in person because he was filming Jaws the Revenge.

What movie did he receive that award for?

Steven Steven Hannah and her children.

I'm just going to give it to you because it's as close as we can get.

We need to move on.

Damn it.

Well, Dang, but Brian knew it.

But he didn't buzz it.

Brian.

Actually knew it, but.

He, I didn't know the answer until I just until he said that.

Until I said it was close.

OK, so I'm giving it to Chewy.

I mean, I give that one to.

Chewy.

Absolutely so.

Chewy, do you want 2 steals or do you want to have the clean slate?

I'll take the extra steel, Devon.

You'll take the extra steel.

So Brian will be wielder of the clean slate.

So whenever you want to play that, we will cross that bridge.

But it essentially you will be wiping the slate clean.

You do this at the when you're pick #4 at some point, like at the end of a round for for that to work properly.

OK, all right.

We have our little three buttons at the ready again.

I do not have one.

I'm just here for to help fill the list out.

Brian, I ready to make the number one pick of the Potten Pendulum's All Star?

Yes, I do think that this will not come as much of a surprise.

I am choosing what I believe is the greatest horror sequel of all time and it's an old 1 from 1935 Frankenstein.

Bride of Frankenstein I don't think anyone is shocked by this pic fearlessly less through the Frankenstein franchise and I know that was a very popular episode.

It's a very popular film.

A letterbox actually just dropped.

I sent it to you guys last night.

Letterbox did their they have their consensus of of picks for best sequels and Bride of Frankenstein, I think is #3 on that list too low, he says.

So he had to take it at #1 Chewie heard some reactions there from you that.

Was I think that was Mike.

Mike is Mike is slumped down in his chair at.

The prospect and OK, let me say this is like the only one that I am like has to be on my list.

I've, I'm pretty, I'm and which probably makes me vulnerable because someone's going to want to steal it because of that.

But I'm I, yeah, I'm, I'm pretty like, cool.

All right.

Other things, but this one is like, I'm pretty pretty adamant that this is this is my, this is mine.

All righty, so Brian, first one up on the board taking Bride of Frankenstein.

So I mean, it's the Frankenstein franchise, the original Frankenstein franchise out of contention is off the board as well as Bride of Frankenstein.

So I have the number two pick and I have a lot of, you know, I already know a lot of my favorites aren't other people's favorites.

So I'm actually like not really worried about a lot of my picks except for this one taking high priority here at #2 Well, actually now I'm this would almost kind of contradict what we said about the new series.

So I don't know.

I'm going to leave it to you guys to decide on this one if this works or not because it's kind of, we have a few Inbetweeners lurking out there.

So I had Evil Dead 2013.

The car is there and I I I believe it is firmly after the events of the original trilogy.

Does anybody veto that?

I don't object because I think there's a big difference between the fly, which is a completely separate thing from like the 1950s movie and like a remake.

Like if you had done like the Texas Chainsaw remake, I think like we'd still allow that.

So and I think Evil Dead like you said like the car is there in Bruce Campbell has like the briefest of cameos at the end of the end credit.

So I am OK with allowing it.

And I think the film makers consider it a requel as well.

Like, yeah, it's in the continuity, it feels like.

Brian, you agree?

I agree absolutely.

OK, I was like, I didn't even mean for my first pick to be controversial, but then I had to rethink it myself.

I had to rethink it myself.

Any other way?

All right, so going number two overall, we have Fetty Alvarez's Evil Dead 2013.

I met him a couple months ago.

He is hot as hell.

Oh my gosh, that's a gorgeous man.

Silver fox.

His accent, he is very kind and polite.

His partner also gorgeous as well.

Very cool people.

Fetty Alvarez, really cool dude.

So at the number three, pick our typical host, Mike Snoonian.

You are up.

So what's at my disposal to wipe Bride of Frankenstein off the board?

You.

Can you can use your steal if you want to steal it for yourself or you can you can steal it.

See, I didn't want to steal it.

I think Brian will be happy no matter what.

If it ends up I was going to be diabolical and draft Abin Costello meets Frankenstein, because I think it belongs on the I think Bride of Frankenstein's a better movie.

But you could argue Abbott and Costello like invented a sub genre with horror comedy and like it's still the template we use for like the latter sequels that get a little more wink and nod but aren't like farcical.

And I just thought Brian would cry if I picked that movie and that would have made my day.

Not that I don't love Brian, but just like I just want to I never get to be diabolical.

So can't do that.

I will go.

I'm going to take a you know what?

No one's going to take this movie, so I will wait.

I am going to make my number one pick scream for.

That was a potential for me.

Also.

Yeah, for me, that's another way to.

Get back.

That was a, that was a potential.

One another way to get.

Back a little way, it doesn't feel like as much of A way though it doesn't it doesn't hit the same.

I think I'm I'm not sure if it's the best of the Scream sequels, but I think it is like it is.

It's up there.

It's either the 1st or it's like you can make a case but for Scream 2 as well.

I think this one holds up better and better the way compared to five and six, especially part 6 which is not very good.

5 is good.

I still like 5 a lot, but four, I think like it's really like, it's not Craven's swan song.

It should have been.

The world wasn't ready for it.

It deserves a Halloween 3 reappraisal like that.

Sort of like, hey, this is actually really smart and it gave us a new character in the Hayden Pantieres.

Now I can't think of her name because I.

Kirby.

Kirby it's.

And it's mean like it's, it's definitely like mean in a way that Craven could be when you look at his 70s output and it's.

Great and it was his last movie it.

Was.

I thought he had one more.

It wasn't soul to take.

Or so my soul to take was the year before.

OK, then what a way to go out.

What a way to go out.

And the world just wasn't ready for it yet.

Like, I think if that Scream 4 came out in 2022, it would have been a smash hit.

And I think it's it deserves all the love.

It's I think the only one that doesn't have a 4K release right now, which blows my mind.

All the deportation.

You're looking step except for four and it pisses me off.

Scream 4 Robini is fans of the series.

No, like the first thing we ever covered was the Scream franchise.

It's the best franchise in my humble opinion.

So.

Guys, come on Blu-ray 4K people, we need those lens flares in 4K.

I'm a fan of them.

I love this movie.

Lens flares and.

That's I talked about this on a on another podcast.

It's like, you know, that's just the way movies looked in 2011.

It's.

So 2011 it's perfect.

It's.

Cameo from Kristen Bell who?

My heart adores her.

I love Kristen Bell and everything she's ever done.

Even that new ROM com show with Adam Brown I'm like this is really good but listeners won't know this about me by a soft romantic at my my core.

OK, Mike sending his flowers out there to Kristen Bell.

Love her.

Scream 4 The Scream Franchise off the board and Scream 4 taken here at the number three pick.

Chewy, you are up for closing out this round and you'll also have to pick starting the next round.

But for your first round selection, what do you put in here?

Well, three of my favorite franchises have already been taken off the board already, which I knew would happen.

But my favorite sequel of all time, not just my favorite horror sequel, but my favorite sequel of all time is still on the board.

And so I have to take it.

That's right, I'm going to be as predictably me as I possibly can.

I knew it.

I knew.

It yeah gremlins to the new batch from 1990.

That was on my long list.

Did the hat turn around reveal that you guys didn't get to see what was iconic that is going to go down in palm pendulum history?

Love that Chewie came with his wardrobe ray to play the Gremlins.

2 off the board and there's only two movies in that franchise.

It is already for now that is.

That is very true, Steven.

Do we run the risk of you running out of franchises to choose from because you haven't seen the movies?

Because you're.

Like we'll have to steal the.

Yeah, but I that's why I picked the second steal honestly is because.

Oh, there you go.

I'm running behind the rest of you all on a lot of this, so I'm going to probably need to take a few pics from you guys, OK?

There we go, we love the gameplay, we love the gameplay.

So that's the end of round one and we are into round two.

Chewy, you are back up now.

You'll be selecting first.

So a franchise that I'm not necessarily a fan of, but I do think this sequel is the best in the franchise.

Now again, you guys can tell me whether or not it's considered a sequel or not.

I'll, I'll let you decide that for me.

But for my #2 pick, I'm going to go with 1994's New Nightmare from Mr.

Wes Craven.

It counts.

It counts.

It does.

Yeah.

Why?

And wow, why?

Would that?

Because it's because it's meta and it's a different Freddy, but yeah.

Definitely counts.

No it counts.

I literally just watched this 2 days ago for the first time.

I think it's fine so, but very fascinating because I think there are some really good franchises or really good sequels in that franchise that I would have picked that I don't know if I would have put in my top five, but there are some really good sequels in there.

Is anybody else hurt that this franchise is off the board?

I am because it's my second favorite franchise.

I yeah.

And I think Brian is going to take that movie.

So I could like kill two birds with one stone and hurt two of my Co host.

What do I have at my disposal?

You have a steal if you want to take new nightmare and your double trouble, so your double trouble you.

You cannot really erase people's picks if that's what you're trying to do.

You either will you're double trouble, you get 2 picks in the round like back-to-back automatically and somebody else gets a pick later.

Or you can steal a sequel from.

Somebody or belong.

I I mean, the problem is like it's not the best sequel in the Elm Street series.

It's like a demo tape for Scream and it's honestly, it's not that great.

I mean it honestly is not that great a movie.

Well my the reason?

Why it failed at the box office miserably.

Well, see, this is the strategy.

Maybe you should have chose your Nightmare sequel in the first round then.

And I'm.

So bummed that part 4 won't take it Vacation Freddy.

You're.

Breaking my daughter's.

Heart.

That's the worst one, no?

It's the Freddy.

It's better than Fred.

You, I thought.

Freddy.

It's better than a dream child.

No, no, dream child's actually not that bad.

It's not that bad actually.

Go back and rewatch it.

Go rewatch.

It I have, it's definitely better than.

Dreammaster is a chaotic mess.

It's so good and it's.

Awful discount Christian Slater you get like the Roach kill.

You're saying these like they're the Roach kill?

Good, but discount Christian Slater.

Anyways, we're not here to mitigate those movies because the Nightmare franchise is now off the board.

Both Craven or well, two of Craven's franchises.

He has another one eligible.

I don't know if we'll see a sequel from that one.

Very vague.

But Mike, it is back to you now for your pick of Round 2.

So now that you're getting how this works, what is going to be your next highest priority, Mike?

I don't think anyone is going to take this movie.

If anything, they'll block it or to use a clean slate because like, they're going to get upset.

It's on here.

But I'm going with 1995's Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Next Generation, directed by Tim Winkle.

Is it the best movie in the world?

No, But I, I kind of love my thing when I'm doing my pics is not to necessarily go with the best movies this time around.

But like what's really kind of interesting and inventive to me and what I love about this movie is you get 2 stars right before they're about to go meter.

They're just about to like go into the stratosphere in Renee Zellinger, who's about to hit with, I think, Bridget Jones Diary right after this.

Jerry Maguire is that 96?

That's.

96.

So she's about to like just be shot into the stratosphere.

And then Matthew Bukhada, hey, who had already filmed Dazed and Confused like that was out before this in a very memorable role.

But I think it's like the Lincoln Lawyer or Mississippi Burning.

It's one of those where like he's going to be and do they never do anything quite like this again?

The closest as McConaughey with frailty in 2001.

And it's also like Kim Winkle, like looking at the slasher sub genre and being like how ridiculous it is and how just like how easy it is to go off the rails.

And it's a really, you know, we talked about New Nightmare and screen being a meta commentary.

This is also a meta commentary and it's just weird and fun.

And every time I watch it, I enjoy it more.

Matthew McConaughey like absolutely is chewing every bit of scenery and Renee Zellinger like yelling at Leatherface to sit down and shut up.

And he does like I love it.

I'm really happy that I picked this one.

If one of you guys block it or steal it, I will come after your children.

I mean, again, nobody can block it except for if Brian does want to use the clean slate, he would drop it everything.

That would take a new nightmare off the board.

Correct.

That is correct.

That is correct.

So interesting.

And you went with a franchise play there because there's a lot of I think The Texas Chainsaw Massacre might be like one of the like have everybody has the most diverse lists, you know, like across the board and like what sequels people like in that franchise.

So a very fascinating pick and for me, I'm also going to be doing a cause thinking of the big franchises still on the board.

You guys are going to kill me.

Somebody's might do something here.

At my second pick here, I am going to take Prometheus.

Fuck you.

Of the Alien franchise, I am taking Prometheus.

I love this movie to pieces.

It is just so gorgeous.

I love the scope.

I love the direction that Ridley Scott decided to go in here because I appreciate the franchises more than just xenomorphs and the kind of just sci-fi vibes in general.

I mean, we have our boy David, one of the best villains of some of the franchises that I think we've covered.

He is, he's phenomenal.

This movie's great.

I love the ensemble, love the body horror, love the lore.

I am taking Prometheus for the pic out of the Alien franchise and Chewy it looks very disappointed.

I, I don't know, that disappoint.

I mean, I'm in my bum.

The Alien franchise is off the board a little bit.

But am I glad that you're taking Prometheus?

Yes, I am.

Hey, I had to deliver a dagger early so.

I love that for all of us, really.

So sorry for anybody that wanted aliens.

Sorry for, well, anyone that wanted aliens.

Really, franchise, It's the right pick.

Thank you my.

Franchise.

It's my second favorite in the series.

Thank you my.

Behind Alien we're on the same.

I have Aliens 4th behind Alien three, although I can flip flop those a little bit.

It's the right pick for that series.

I thank you.

For that was one of my picks.

I love Prometheus.

That's very validating.

I appreciate it.

All right, Brian, we are back over to you.

We are so question of procedure.

Yes.

Would I if I were to use the clean slate?

If I were to use it, would I do that before I play my pick or after?

You would be doing it now and then you get to pick to you would be doing it now and you are.

So you don't want to demolish one of your own?

Exactly.

Yeah.

No, you would be playing the clean slate.

You are wiping the slate clean and you are starting the round over.

If you do that though, again, New Nightmare and No Elm Street makes the series.

With Elm Street, so can can you pick something else?

You can pick something.

Else that franchise is no, that franchise is back on the board.

But that that pick is because now there's no franchise on anybody's team.

So that franchise is back on the board.

So all the franchises would reopen that were picked.

The ones for Texas Chainsaw for for Nightmare on Elm Street and Alien franchise would be back on the board, yes.

Yeah, oh boy.

So this is a big choice you got here, Brian.

It is is a big choice, but you know what?

You're going to kill sales of your upcoming Wes Craven book if you take his movie off.

I mean, you're going to have to get that.

Wes Craven was right about everything.

Tattoo removed.

Well, Scream 4 is still on the list and I'm I'm trying to read people's faces to see how how.

Now keep in mind Brian, you can because you can't play it in the next round because you're the number one.

So you would have to wait to play this again until round 4 when you're the last pick once again.

Yeah, I know, I know.

This is this is, this is a challenging situation or as Jimmy Stewart said, and it's a wonderful life.

This is a very interesting situation.

And boy, I'm sorry, guys.

I got to play it.

I got.

To play it.

I got to play the and.

There we go.

Brian love it and and I'm just going to say do better.

So because.

Of Texas Chainsaw.

Like what are you?

No.

I don't know, maybe I'm joking about doing better.

I I just, I just like, I don't know, it's just something about it.

It feels right to reset.

OK.

So to so to clarify how this is going to work, we are doing clean slate and since Brian played it, he's going to make his pick and then we'll go back through in the order of the the original order of this round.

So it'll go Brian, Chewy, Mike, me and then Brian will be starting Round 3.

Gotcha.

So clean slate has been played.

So that means the Alien franchise, Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, and Nightmare franchise are back on the board, but not those three films.

Those three films are discarded completely, cannot be played later.

So, Brian, go ahead and give us your clean slate pick.

Now, this is probably not going to make a lot of sense considering the I'm not picking from any of the franchises that were chosen before, but I'm gonna pick what I think is the best of this particular series.

I'm going to pick Child's Play 2.

You know I'm a Chucky boy.

I know.

So all right, I'm I'm I'm cool because this is a very fantastic one.

Is it my favorite of the franchise?

No, but.

I know it's really fantastic.

Bride of Chucky is very, very popular.

Yeah, there's not a world where Child's Play 2 is better than Bride of Chucky.

That also wouldn't have been mine.

I would have went curse personally.

I was going to say Curse is the more Devon pick.

I would have went curse personally if if it was me for better.

Than Jennifer Tilley in a movie.

I mean, Bride of Chucky, it's up there.

It is definitely up there.

But childhood too, I think is fantastic.

I love the the sister, brother, sister dynamic we got going on.

And of course, the third act is in that toy factory is one for the ages like I think it is.

It is so good.

So Brian has blown up the round and we are redoing it.

So child's play off the board.

The other franchises are back up except for those picks.

Chewy, what is your replacement pick?

Little stings a little, but I'm going to go.

Sorry I.

Feel.

I'm I am going to take one of those dead franchises back.

I'm going to go I'm going to go with the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Toby Hooper's follow up the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Just so you know, Steven, just so you know, Steven, I did it for you knowing that you were going.

To pay.

There we go, There we go.

We got we're getting some mind melding.

Mike, his bold move to eliminate the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise undone and Chewie has taken it for himself with TCM 2 from 1986.

Mike, how do you feel going into your replacement pick?

What do I have at my disposal?

Nothing at this point.

You can steal TCM too.

You do not have a way to block anything.

I can't steal Brian's pick.

Huh.

No, you can.

You can steal anybody's pick.

I don't have a way to block it.

I don't have a way I don't feel.

And Child's Play 2 is great.

I mean, it's like the actually probably better than the original in some ways, so.

I agree.

So you you can steal anybody's, you can still pick away from anybody for your pick if you want or you just can't continue on a.

Lot of nostalgic value to me.

It's one of my friends and I watched over and over.

Do you care enough though to for it to be on your top five or are there other franchises you can ride for?

You know what?

For my dead homies, I'm going to steal Texas changes.

OK, Mike has used his steal.

At least it's on the board, right?

It is for TCM two, no.

No one can steal that back, correct once they're.

Stolen it?

No.

Yeah, it's not Yankee Swap, it's not Dennis.

It's a Dennis Topper in one of his most coked out finest performances.

So.

Chewy, I need a replacement now that CM2 has been stolen.

OK, In that case, I am going to I'm going to pivot a little bit and I'm going to go with the Exorcist 3.

OK, which gives.

Me two movies from 1990 on my list.

My list is now just films from 1990.

OK the Exorcist 3 love this pic here.

A lot of people would say this is the best sequel of this franchise.

I'm pretty sure.

Unequivocally.

I mean, don't get me wrong, love The Heretic, but I'm not going to I'm not that crazy to say that it's better than the Exorcist.

You're.

Not going to ride for the Heretic.

I mean, you guys know I I dig it, but no, not I'll.

Say this for The Heretic, the documentary on if it's coming out Foreman and the Devil can't.

Wait, can't.

Wait, it made me cry at the end.

Wow, brought me to tears like Foreman's Borman's last line in that movie.

It's a beautiful doc.

It literally brought me to tears

at like 11

at like 11:30 on a Saturday morning.

Wow all.

Right, The Exorcist 3 is on the board.

Brad Doroff on the board twice in this round with Child's Play 2 and The Exorcist 3.

Love that.

Love that for Brad.

So for me it is time for me to replace my round two pick.

That is a bummer.

I was really excited to have Prometheus here.

I'm sorry that that one that one is gave me the most pause.

So now it's once again I'm I'm weighing which franchise I think I need to take care of 1st.

And I think my pick here, this one goes out to if Ari was here, this would be my my saw pick.

I think I can wait a minute.

So I'm going to instead for now, I will pick found destination 5 will be my replacement here in case somebody wanted one of those in the franchise.

We are up to 6 now and but 5 for me.

For my money, the best of the franchise in general.

The secret secret prequel again, still top five theater going moments for me.

Like that was so incredible to witness in person on opening weekend.

And the movie fucking bangs.

All the kills set pieces, the gymnastics scene, chef's kiss.

So I had to get my final destination pick here.

So file Destination 5 is me and that closes out Round 2 after the clean slate played by Brian shook everything up.

So we have more franchises that are off the board starting off Round 3.

Brian, it is your pick.

I'm going to go a little.

I'm going to go off my list.

This was not on my list, but I think it it should be here.

And it's representing a director that I highly respect.

And you know the one I'm known for, but as writer and Nightmare on Elm Street Part 3, Dream Warriors.

All righty, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 Dream Warriors Once again a very pretty high consensus pick on favorite of the franchise.

Me being controversial once again, this wouldn't have been my nightmare pick that this would not have been my nightmare pick.

But I think it is the case for most people.

It's the one that it's the one that of the ones that remain that I would pick.

Well, there we go.

So A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Freddy Krueger is back off the board for this round, and now it goes back to me.

It's a really good pick.

It's fine.

It's not.

Even my.

Favorite.

But I think I think it's the most formidable of the sequels.

I, I, I my personal favorite is New Nightmare, but I think it is the most formidable of the sequels.

It's the.

One that made them like a house, household name.

It's the one that made when you think of Freddy Krueger, you think of Dream Warriors.

I mean that.

It's prime time bitch, etcetera etcetera.

All righty, so it is back to me for pick two of round 3 and once again I'm like I'm thinking of the franchises and we're we're slimming down a little bit about halfway through here and I'm going to go with the franchise.

We are currently covering the one we are of doing this episode to procrastinate other episodes, but we are covering this and have not covered it yet.

But I'm taking prey here for my pick here in round three.

I think Spoiler is the best of the franchise so far.

Every time I rewatch it I appreciate something else more about it.

Amber Mid Thunder's performance is such a star making performance or physicality and emotional bandwidth that she brings to the franchise that not a lot, not a lot of other characters do.

I think she's great.

Sorry.

Good girl of the 21st century.

One of the best horror doggos in a franchise.

And yeah, I I love this film.

I think it is fantastic.

It looks great.

Love the the predator design and showdown and this one and the Easter eggs as well.

So I'm taking prey here.

So Predator franchise off the board, everybody.

I think everybody's it was mostly a lot of head nods.

I saw head nods by Brian.

I think that's a great pick.

I'm I'm a.

Solid prick.

Yeah, it's the best sequel in the front guys for sure.

It's the second best film of the series, but it it's a great pick so agreed.

Alrighty, well Mike, it is back over to you for your pick of round 3.

How you feeling?

When do I pick last in a round?

You don't.

You're never I never pick last.

No.

Because it snakes back and forth, it doesn't change every round.

Got it.

OK.

So so you will.

You're always either going to be two or you're always going to be 3.

Hence why you're the only person that can use the double trouble function.

So I feel like a Halloween movie should go on here and it's down between two of them.

I really don't want Halloween 3 of the board because I think that movie is just fine.

But I think it's like gone from being underrated to slightly overrated, like the way people lose their shit.

I mean, I like that it started the Atkins diet, which is vagina.

Like I absolutely like that diet came out, but I don't think it belongs there.

And my whole theme is like chaotic sequels, like ones that are just kind of weird and out there.

So I'm going with 2009 Rob Zombies Halloween 2, which I fucking love.

I love this.

And these are like nostalgia.

Pics for me that's everything.

That's the one I had on my list too.

Wonderful.

Happy to let you know.

OK, it's the first thing I ever wrote about when I started a site called All Things Horror.

I like came home, started the site that day and wrote a review of it.

I think it's a fascinating look at Post traumatic Stress Disorder not just for Lori Strode but for three characters like Sheriff Bracken, 4 characters Bracken, Loomis, Annie and Laurie.

I think if it makes one mistake I Daniel Harris acts circles around Scott Compton Taylor and I would have made Andy the focus of the film.

It's brutal and it's Rob Zombie saying I don't have to follow the anything.

Michael Myers is going to talk.

He's not going to wear the mask sometimes.

Like Lori's not going to be relatable in any way.

It's grimy, it's a dirty.

I think it's like really under.

Even though it's getting like a lot of like love lately, I think it's still criminally underappreciated.

And I think it's along with like Lords of Salem and Devil's Rejects, like three of his like excellent horror movie.

So 2009 Rob Zombies Halloween 2 was making my board.

All righty.

Of course, Mike and Ari could be recording a commentary track on that coming up.

So we're doing it on 2007's Halloween.

Oh, I thought you were doing this one.

OK so Rob Zombie Halloween 1 you guys will get a commentary track but.

Because I've come around on that movie that was like the first movie.

Asides from Blair Witch, two of the show I was ever really really shit on.

I was going to say that was a big, that was a big growth moment for you to come turning around on the original Halloween.

So I wonder how well people are going to feel because Halloween has like the most separate timelines or maybe tied with Texas Chainsaw.

I'm asking but I think this one has even more branches of timeline so it had ample opportunities for different sequels to make it on here.

Might be controversial.

I don't care for this franchise so power to you.

I'm happy for you.

I would have probably picked the original H2 from 81, but this one is like pretty high up on my Michael Myers list as well.

Chewy, it is back to you.

Closing out Round 3 here and you will be getting back-to-back picks.

I will.

And you're the only one that's been victimized of a steal so far, so I don't know if you need to take some frustration out maybe.

Maybe.

I don't know.

We'll see, we'll see, and I'm going to.

I'm going to take my next pick, mainly because it's one of only a couple movies for franchises that I have on my on my long list that have not been taken off the board yet.

So I'm going to do this with apologies to my good friend Devon, and I don't even know if this would be his pick, but I'm going to take 2002's Blade 2.

You gave me a scare there.

I'm OK.

I'm OK with this.

I'm OK with this.

I'm happy.

I'm happy it's here because I actually didn't have it on my short list.

So I'm I'm very happy that it is here.

So I.

Know you're a favorite?

Actually you.

Give me a favor, I think.

I I think I remember myself being a bigger fan of Blade 2 than you were, as I recall.

I'm a blade one boy, so I mean.

Not as big a fan of as Harry Knowles, let's be clear.

Oh yes, never forget guys.

Again, it's not for patreon.com/pond Pendulum.

You can hear Chewy's dramatic Harry Knowles reading it is something guys best.

Things I've ever done.

It is something, Oh my goodness, if you know, you know about this review, everybody.

And if not, join the Patreon.

2 bucks a month and you get to hear it all for yourself.

So there you go.

Love that, love that here.

So chewy you have back-to-back picks cuz you are kicking off around.

So what are you selecting here?

Well, I'm kind of I'm, I'm, I'm scraping the barrel here in terms of what I have.

So I do remember that I'm I pick four and I have two steals that I haven't used yet.

And as you said earlier, I am the only one that has been victimized by having something stolen from me.

So I'm going to start round 4 by stealing Scream 4.

Stealing Mike's number one.

Pick.

I thought you could only steal from like that round.

No, you can steal anything.

You can steal anything.

That's why it's like, you know, if you wait to use your steal, see what's out on the board.

But Chewie does have two of them, so using one of them here to take Mike's number one pick, Scream 4.

Love that.

So Mike, you will be replacing that with a different movie?

Doing that right now.

Yes, you get to do that now.

Funny, like all of my picks have some sort of like as I'm going through this, some sort of nostalgic value for me as well, going weird and nostalgic.

And I don't think this is necessarily the best sequel in the franchise, but I love it.

I'm an apologist for it.

I'm going with next Friday the 13th from New Line Cinema.

Jason goes to hell.

There's a couple reasons for this one number one, unabashed apologist for this movie because it like it's so much better than Jason takes Manhattan, which is really Jason takes a boat, right?

That movie is.

Just that movie sucks.

And it's like, it's got John Lemay, who was in the pride of the 13th TV show, which I loved.

And it's just like, what if like Adam Marcus was a guest of this show, was so much fun to talk to and it's just like, it's the 9th movie.

Let's get fucking weird with it.

And they absolutely get Worm Jason.

But you get tremendous special effects from K and BI.

You get like ties to the Evil Dead franchise.

You get the glove coming.

And I'll tell you what, for all you motherfuckers who say you hate this movie, when that glove came up at the end of the movie, people lost their goddamn minds in that theater.

And I saw this on August 15th, 1993.

And the reason I remember that date so vividly, the other reason I'm picking it for nostalgic reasons, it's the date I lost my virginity taking a date to this movie.

Hickory.

I think it was Hickory Hill from the Atkins diet.

So it was when I was introduced to the Atkins diet for the first time.

So how can you not pick the movie you lost your V card to?

It's just really what I'm asking.

Oh.

Man, this might be my favorite pick so far.

If you steal this one from me like that's going to be stuck in your head me boning fan.

18 year old me have no idea what I'm doing, how how?

Ironic, you know, Jason, the patron St.

against horniness is represented here, marking a very special date for for for Mike.

And I also just watched this movie for the first time, or well, for a second time a couple days ago.

But like actually watching it.

This movie rips.

It's one of the better ones.

So again, lots of sequels were on the board for Jason, but not anymore.

I love the slight regret that Chewie had for his steal.

But then was like, well, you know what?

I got to make peace with this.

So love to see that.

So this is.

Making things very challenging for me now I, I don't have money options left.

I don't know.

I'm going to have to look through our feed and see what I can find.

Brian's moving his list around.

So Mike, it is your pick here.

And I have to remind you, so this is actually the last time you can use your double trouble because you have two picks left.

So if you want.

To deal with double trouble like we get a trivia question.

So it's kind of a, it's a high risk, high reward situation for you actually.

Actually, so you would be challenging one of your hosts to trivia.

Obviously it'd be Brian or Chewie, because I'm the one hosting, unless somebody else wanted to do trivia.

But I don't think you want to do trivia against me.

And if.

I get if I get Brian, I get to take Bride of Frankenstein.

From so so no.

No, but you what?

What happens here is if you win trivia, you get 2 picks for the round and the loser gets that replacement pick at the very end of the list.

But that could also be you.

If you challenge somebody to trivia and you lose, you would be sent that pic to the end.

You would still make one.

I'm going to use it because I don't think anyone's going to take the pick that I have in mind.

OK, so are you.

I'm going to challenge, and I can either challenge Brian or Steven, and it's horror movie trivia, yes.

About the franchise About the franchises we've covered.

Yeah, which I'll challenge Steven.

I mean, even I'm not dumb enough to go against Brian in horror movie trivia because like, what Brian?

I don't.

Know if I.

Did Stevens the one who won, though, are.

But he really didn't because he got it wrong.

I mean technically he got it wrong.

If this was, If this was like.

I got three out of the four words right and that ain't bad.

Yeah, that's like being a little bit pregnant, which I thought the girl who I lost a virginity to was at one point, but that was a scare.

Anyway, moving on, I'll challenge Steven.

All right, so Mike is challenging Steven to trivia.

Since my questions are harder than I thought, we're just going to do 1 because we used up a lot of them and these are stumpers too, so we'll see.

So because I only have a few of them prepared so so.

If it's a tie, then what happens?

If neither of us get it, what happens?

I have a few questions.

I just don't have enough to do 2 out of three anymore because I kind of burned through quite AI mean I might be able to come up with a couple, but these are tough as I'm seeing.

So are you guys ready?

All righty, in the Paranormal Activity franchise, there is a spin off that we did not cover.

It takes place in between 1:00

and 2

and 2:00.

What is?

What is?

MM Paranormal activity?

Oh, like it takes place in Tokyo?

What 1?

You stepped on my question for 1/2.

What is your actual answer?

Paranormal Activity.

It's not Tokyo Drift, which would be amazing.

Shit I don't know the name of it.

Paranormal Activity.

2 Tokyo stories.

I'm wrong, I'm and I'm not.

You were kind of close but I'm not counting it cuz you did step on the question.

I did not get to finish.

I didn't.

I didn't.

That's so petty.

I didn't even.

So petty.

I did not.

I said that at the beginning, and I didn't even ask the question part.

I just said this my statement.

Anyways, so I have another trivia question here to reset.

Where'd it go?

Where'd it go?

OK, here we go.

All right, this won't be easy, because if you guys miss it, you can guess a couple times.

Don Coscarelli, father of the Phantasm franchise, began his career fairly young out of the Phantasm movie.

It's his third film.

How old was he when he directed Phantasm?

Mike, I'm going to say 23 years old.

Close, but incorrect.

Then I'll go with 22.

Incorrect.

I'm going to go with 24.

Incorrect.

21.

Incorrect.

I'm going to go with 19.

Incorrect.

That was just guessing numbers.

This is the best 20.

I'm going to go with 25.

There we go, all right, there we go.

Don Cosco Rally started the Phantasm franchise at the ripe age of 25.

That was his third film, though at that point his first film.

He started developing and writing when he was 18.

Yeah, he's.

He got going very quickly.

So my.

Did 2 films before that.

If I remember they yes they weren't horror movies.

Correct, right.

See it?

All right, there you go.

Now you're flexing some trivia, so you get to do your two picks, your final 2 picks back-to-back here, Steven, you will make up your round five pick at the end.

Round 4, right, OK.

Or your round four pick yes, you will make that up at the end.

Oh wait, I just did my round four pick.

You did because you stole.

So it'll be my round five pick.

Yes, sorry, sorry.

OK, Nope.

My bad.

So Mike, you get 2 picks here.

This is also a little bit of a nostalgia pick for me for a couple reasons, but it's a movie I love.

I'm going to go with an out of left field.

Hell House 4's Carmichael Manor is my pick because I think that, you know, the Hell House franchise is really up and down.

I think still think the first one is like a brilliant found footage movie and parts of two work really well, but then it falls off and three is not great.

Four returns to form in that it's like very, very scary and really well done.

And it does it by even with changing the location of the film and it serves as a sword like quasi prequel in some ways to the movie as well.

And it's nostalgic for me because like Hell House LLC, like we got to premiere, do the world premiere it Tell your eye and horror show with director Stephen Connetti.

I got to do the Q&A with him both times.

I think he's a great dude.

Wish him nothing but success.

Also got to see this movie sitting next to our own Ari Hellraiser.

One of the first times we ever got to meet.

And I have to tell you, folks, there is no greater joy in life than sitting next to Ari during a horror movie when she gets frightened because she just, like, really gets into it.

Like, she's kind of like Kermit the Frog where her arms start waving in the air and she's yelling.

And it's just was like the perfect way to experience a movie that I think is really well done and a great return to form for that franchise.

All righty, so that is your first one, but because you won double trouble, you get to make your final pick here as well.

This.

Is tough because there's not like a lot of massive franchises left that have great.

I mean I I really don't want to take a saw movie.

And I think that like Devon, you're going to have a Devon, you're going to have a saw pick on there and you know what, you put a lot of work into this episode.

So I think I want to leave that for you.

I'm going to go with a Romero film, which is a little surprising to me, but I can see from Brian's face right now.

It's the last one from my original list.

He was going to go.

With Dawn of the Dead.

I was going to go with Dawn of the Dead, but you're going to go with I know what you're doing.

And you know I.

Survival of the dead, right?

Just kidding.

We're going with survival of the dead.

No, we're going to go with 85's Day of the Dead, which zombies have never looked better on film.

It's a bit underappreciated.

It has like the first time Romero figures out like, oh, women have can be strong characters too and does that with a movie with his survivor girl.

But I think like, and it's also like a really good collaboration with Tom Savini, who in some ways Co directed the film as well.

Like, this is Savini's, this is his masterpiece in terms of like, how good the effects are in a movie.

And as bleak as the movie is, it's like the only one that really ends with a real bit of, like, hope at the end of it.

So 80 fives, Day of the Dead.

Love this movie.

Would not have said that a while ago.

So yeah, I feel really good about my pick.

Day.

Wow, that felt very nice.

Did a nice thing for me while breaking Brian's heart.

That was a nice gesture Mike.

I appreciate.

It it's OK.

Really, that's kind of been Mike's whole thing.

This, this game is just breaking.

Brian, it really.

Is pretty.

Much well.

Brian is like.

Both of these episodes like this and the marathon perfectly.

Like, he's really a great strategist.

All righty well.

I just make shit up as I.

So Romero is off the board as well as the Hill House LLC franchise and Mike has his completed of five and less.

Me or Brian or Chewie, we all have steals left and if we wanted to steal something from your list, we could.

So this is possibly not the last we've heard of Mike, but at the moment he has a list of five after using his double trouble.

So it is my pick here and just in case I mean you know, I mean I think I'm getting my team no matter what, but right here I'm getting my Saw pick in will be at saw three, the third film directed by Darren Lynn Bowsman.

This is might shock some people cuz you guys know I am a Hoffmannader Stan and he is not in this one.

Actually I'm kind of crazy.

He's not in my favorite saw movie.

But you know who we do have?

We have doctor Lynn Denlin and her shitty husband as well who does his game hungover.

I do have to give him credit.

Everybody shits on him.

They forget he is literally hungover.

He down like half a bottle of whiskey the night before and woke up in a box and did his best.

OK, so everyone I know dead meat dubbed him slow ass Jeff and everybody has adopted that moniker for him.

Jeff was hungover anyways.

But this is where the the franchise really turns into a soap opera.

Like it already was like pretty dramatic, but like this is where it truly is.

These two characters that are, you know, in two different situations didn't know that they were married and the implications they have.

This is the first time they also do a little, I mean, not the first time, but multiple kind of time manipulations and the way you kind of see things and sets up stuff that will get paid off in the next movie while also paying off stuff from the second movie as well.

And this is where we start to crank up the gore aspect of the traps are getting a little bit more elaborate.

But I also love this adding in the sub genre of being a medical drama on top of it being it's a gore fest and death game scenario.

So I love love this one.

The all the scenes between Amanda, Doctor Lynn and John Kramer are fantastic.

So got to get saw three here as my saw pick.

Brian, it is up to you to close out this round.

You already used your clean slate, but you do still have a deal left.

Yeah, I'm, I'm going to leave this deal.

I am.

OK.

So come back with me too late 2019, early 2020, something like that in there.

I was briefly part of the the the pod in the pendulum went through a small reformation where myself and another host became regulars for a while.

And one of the franchises we covered during that time was Poltergeist.

And so I'm picking a movie that is not only sort of nostalgic for those reasons, I think that was might have been the first complete series I covered as official Co host.

I can't remember it was that or the Lost Boys.

But the Lost Boys sequels are dog shit anyway.

Those are.

Very bad movies.

Yeah, so, so I'm picking Poltergeist 2 now.

Poltergeist 2 had a is is not particularly appreciated but it does have a great villain and it has a scene of Craig T Nelson vomiting up the worm from a tequila bottle.

That gave me such trauma as a child that it made me a horror fan for life.

So I'm it's kind of my nostalgic pick.

So I'm going to go with Poltergeist 2 The other Side.

Oh yes, I I'm a big fan of this one.

I think I actually saw this one before I saw the original.

I think I saw them flip-flopped.

A fantastic movie.

I think it is kind of on par with the first one, honestly.

Like, almost, like slightly underneath, but almost at least.

Brian, do you get back-to-back picks because you're kicking off the final round, Round 5?

So what is your file film?

And once again, you do still have a steal available.

Yeah, looking at what I have left.

And think of what franchises are still open as well.

Yeah, I know.

Thinking of what's available, the one that really stands out to me is more recent, so something from 20.

I'm going with Terra Fire 2.

OK.

OK.

I wouldn't have seen from Brian.

Ari is going to be.

Ari is going to be thrilled.

Also very.

Happy Art made the list.

One of my my favorite articles that I've ever written is about Terra Fire too, so I'm very happy to have this on the list.

Can we just give a shout to Arielle?

She recently published an article I want to say it's for Hound magazine online.

Does the art the misogyny of terror fire hold up?

And she like argues that they are not misogynistic films if I recall.

Like So shout out to Ari who loves Art the Clown and all things to.

Absolutely.

Well, Brian has his list of five.

Unless me or Chewy decide to use a steal against him, but he has his list of five and I'll say for my last pick, I do not need to use a steal.

This one I knew was going to be my final pick.

Not because of quality, but because I knew no one else would pick it.

I have to have my queen, my queen Esther has to be here.

Orphan first kill is got a round up my list.

It's only a duology.

Yes, I know, but I got to have my girl here because I think this movie is just no one thought they could pull this off.

No one knew what to expect with this film.

It was the the the sequel prequel that nobody asked for, but yet it delivered in spades in a way that just really nobody could really understand.

Like the 2009 movie is like kind of a cult favorite and I think this one will continue to rise in cult status as well.

I think this movie is just so fantastic it and the way it does support the first movie and work as a prequel which all prequels don't always work.

I love the the sub genre tone change midway through some really great performances.

Of course, Isabel Fuhrman coming back to do the role and them employing a lot of like very tall platform boots and war perspective to pull off her still playing this role in a convincing fashion.

This movie's a miracle is what I like to say about it.

So I gotta round up my list with Orphan for skill.

Very Devon Peck.

Very Devon Peck.

Yeah, so I knew I wasn't getting you to steal or anything for her.

Number 5 on my list, but number one in my heart, Esther.

Love her.

So Mike already has all five of his, so we will be leapfrogging over to Chewie to close things out with his 5th pick on his top five sequels.

Losing that, losing that trivia around didn't really hurt me too much, because I'm picking pretty much exactly where I would have anyway.

That said, now my debate is whether or not to use a steal.

I have one more I can use it.

Do I need to use it?

No, but do I want to use it?

Kind of.

So the question now becomes, will I piss off somebody else or will I just here's the thing, do I piss off one person or do I piss off all of you?

That's the question.

Because I have a feeling the last one that I would put on my list is not one any of you would put on yours.

In fact, a couple of you have dragged it already on this episode as not being one of the kids.

Devon, I know you in particular do not like this movie, but I kind of love it, so I'm going to throw it on there.

I'm not going to use the scale.

Instead, I'm going to make you all mad and put on James Cameron's aliens.

Can you?

Isn't Prometheus Prometheus?

Is off.

The board.

Hey, I'm the only crazy one that I mean, hey, I'm upset that I didn't get Prometheus earlier, but I'm happy with my with my 5:00.

So I mean, I feel like everyone listening up to this point is going, hey, the Alien franchise was back on the board, you dodos.

So I'm glad that the Alien franchise is represented.

But yes, I do not like Aliens.

I do.

I, I was going to say, Brian, here's the thing.

I could have pissed you off the most or pissed you off the.

Least well, because here's the thing about here's what I didn't write a Frankenstein for a steal.

My my feeling.

Oh gosh.

That would have been.

That would have been painful, man.

I know my options were limited.

I wrote, I wrote, I wrote down what I wrote down.

What happened hasn't been taken.

Joyride 3 is right there bro I.

Know I was I was like I got yeah, the the jaws for the revenge.

Brian put just two on there.

Which I like all of the ones that I put on there so.

Why aliens, Steven?

Yeah, I, I really.

Enjoy the movie.

I it's it's.

It is.

It is substantially less horror than the other sequels in that franchise.

I think why it gets a bum rap with particularly within horror spheres, but it is a it is a very well made movie.

I really enjoy it.

I, it's my #2 in that franchise behind the original, I think it's AI think it's a great film.

And I, I wanted, again, I wanted to see the Alien franchise represented.

But again, Prometheus is right behind it in terms of like entries in that franchise.

So it like, it's right there.

But like, I really do love Aliens.

And so I wanted, I wanted to show it some love.

I'm just happy Book of Shadows is not anywhere on this list.

I might just end the franchise, the series like, all right, we're wrapping it up.

Was that a true concern?

It was that really Lumen you never.

Look at who you look at who you've assembled here, Mike.

Was that going to?

Happen you.

Never know.

I mean, yes, of course.

Whether if I'm included, of course you.

Never know.

So you glad that this game panned out very nicely?

We have a nice swath of franchises, 20 of the 38 that we have covered, as I'm thinking of some of the ones that did not make anybody's list, but we have.

Let's see here, we have no phantasm, no Purge, no no conjurings, no conjurings.

That's a big one.

No conjurings, no critters, no critters, no jaws.

We got a we got a few in there that are not represented, but I think the ones that everyone expected made it on here.

Yeah.

So thanks for playing guys.

I thought this was fun.

You know, do something a little different.

I'm AI love me some games, you know, so I wanted to do something a little bit different to kind of switch it up for you guys.

So I hope you listeners enjoyed the pod and pendulum All Stars draft list game scenario, Halloween, I mean, special loved doing this.

I meant to do it before when everybody did their social medias.

Everybody.

Hit their list one more time to so everybody knows their top five favorite sequels and prequels.

Brian, I'm going to go in ascending order with.

Terra Fire.

2 Poltergeist 2, The Other Side, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Part 3, Dream Warriors, Child's Play 2 and my top choice of them all, of course, my beloved Bride of Frankenstein, Chewie.

I'll I'll go in descending order.

I'll start with Gremlins.

2 the new batch.

The Exorcist 3, Blade 2, Scream 4 which I stole and aliens and mine.

I have Evil Dead.

2013.

Final destination 5, Pray saw three and orphan, first kill and Mike.

Again, my memory's not the best.

We have George Romero's 1985's Day of the Dead.

We have a hell house for the Carmichael Manor, and then we have three of the heavy hitters we have.

Jason Goes to Hell, Texas Chainsaw.

Massacre 2.

And the not at all controversial Rob Zombie 2009 Halloween 2.
