Speaker 1

Hey, everyone, welcome back to another episode on Sutter Around and find Out.

I'm here with my girl a shanty.

Speaker 2

Hey girl.

Speaker 3

Hey, as you know, it is still Black History Months, so I'm.

Speaker 2

Starting the pot off.

Speaker 3

Yo.

Speaker 2

That's gonna be like sure, yure the cover picture.

Speaker 3

So I'm going to start us off with our Black History Month fact.

In nineteen fifty nine, a nine year old boy was in the library.

It was a segregated library in Lake City, South Carolina, And in this library he wanted to check out some books or whatever, and they wouldn't let him, obviously because he was black.

Speaker 2

And it became like a whole whoop dee doo, and the police came.

All these other things happened.

Speaker 3

That young boy ended up being able to check out those books, but later on he ended up with a PhD.

Fort he was a physicist, he did martial arts, he was a saxophone, and ended up being a NASA astronaut.

In nineteen eighty four, he flew on the Space Shuttle Challenger and became only the second black American in space.

Oh Unfortunately, in nineteen eighty six, the Challenger launched again and broke apart in like seventy three seconds the young boy.

His name was Ronald McNair, who was thirty five when he passed.

That same library that once denied him his books is now named after him in his honor, and it's called the Doctor Ronald E.

Speaker 2

McNair Life History Center.

That's amazing.

Boom, I love that.

That's a good one.

Wow.

No, yeah, I love it.

Speaker 3

You know, they try to hold him back, and now that whole library has to tell his story every time when they ask about that name.

Speaker 2

So I think that's beautiful.

That's amazing.

But what's up with too?

Gurley's up with me?

Not much.

Speaker 1

I was super excited for today's pod in our incredible guests that's joining us.

Speaker 2

Ooh who we got coming on?

Speaker 1

We have a two time Olympic gold medalist, of five times NA All Star, the vice president of the WNBPA Executive Committee and the co founder of Unrivaled.

Obviously, she's a Yukon alum.

She was drafted in twenty nineteen by the Minnesota Lynx and that same year one Rookie of the Year.

We have the one, the only in a FISA Collier.

Speaker 2

See.

Thank you for joining us.

Speaker 4

I'm so happy to be here.

Speaker 2

How are you, Fie?

We're excited to have you.

Speaker 5

I'm good.

We were just talking about the weather.

It's nice here, seventy five, so I feel really good, honestly.

Speaker 2

Oh my goodness, so rob it.

Oh my goodness, it's so cold in New York.

Speaker 4

Girl.

Oh you gotta get done here.

Speaker 2

I was.

Speaker 4

I was at the pool yesterday and swimsuit just gave on.

Speaker 2

I can't even imagine that.

I'm hurting.

I haven't seen my baby suit in like five months.

Speaker 4

I need it.

I turned actually gray in the winter, So this is nice.

Speaker 2

Forget the bathing sit.

I've barely seen the sun.

Speaker 5

Yeah I remember, I remember, I don't.

Speaker 2

I don't know how.

Yesterday it was three but felt like negative eleven.

Speaker 5

Oh that actually made me shiver.

That's horrible.

So yeah, that's horrible.

Speaker 3

I think the first time ever New York has been colder than Connecticut, because yesterday it was like it says, feels like negative fifteen, and they put it up in comparison to like Antarctica, and I'm.

Speaker 4

Like, store specifically is a wind tunnel.

It's so windy it's it's horrible.

Speaker 2

Yeah, the wind is awful ezy.

Speaker 5

We used to have to walk our home games.

We had to wear stockings and like dress clothes.

So imagine that weather and having to wear stockings and flats in the snow, every tree, hilltop, every home game, we had to dress.

Speaker 2

Up flats, no boots.

Speaker 4

You can wear boots, but you had to look like business attire so it couldn't be like real boots.

Speaker 2

Wow, I got full sheet changed that.

Oh my god, it was tough.

Yeah that, I'm speechless after hearing that's crazy.

Speaker 3

The thought of you guys fighting the wind in your stockings and our stars.

Speaker 2

I don't think I've worn a pair of stockings.

Speaker 4

Yeah, that was.

Speaker 5

That was when I got introduced to them too.

Because you couldn't have bare legs.

We weren't allowed to have that either.

You had to wear stockings.

Speaker 2

Thank you for going through that so I don't have to not pioneer even the way for the girl.

Speaker 4

Yeah, I'm glad.

I'm glad that.

I'm glad you guys didn't have to do that.

Honestly, I'm happy for you.

Speaker 1

Okay, So Valentine's Day is coming up.

Do you have any Valentine's Day hot takes?

Speaker 4

Hot takes?

Speaker 5

I don't know if it's a hot take, but I don't think you have to get presents every year, and presents are nice, but if you're only like, the only day that you're going to celebrate someone is Valentine's Day, that's also not good.

Speaker 2

Valid valid.

Speaker 4

Also, it's just for me because I hate having to come up with presents.

Speaker 5

You got birthdays, then you got like Father's Day, and now you're at Christmas.

Speaker 4

Like now you're adding a Valentine's.

Speaker 1

Day explicit Yeah, okay, that makes sense.

So what's an ideal Valentine's They look like to you?

Speaker 4

Just going to dinner.

Speaker 5

I love food, so if we just go out to eat somewhere, I'm happy with that.

Speaker 3

I love Valentine's Day, even though, like you said, Valentine's Day should be like every day.

You know, you should really show love to your partner, your person.

I think it is super special at an extra date?

Does that have to be a gift?

But I also love food, so a little extra date another reason to get dressed up?

Speaker 4

Why not?

Speaker 5

Kind of a hot take.

I don't really need flowers.

They die in my care so fast.

Speaker 3

Oh my gosh, same, my thumb is not green.

Child, Give me some chocolates.

Speaker 1

Though, that's exactly what I say.

Much chocolate than flowers.

Those disappear in my care too, but you know, in the best way.

Yeah, okay, So is it Valentine's Day or Valentine's Day?

Speaker 2

Because I hear you saying it differently as shanty.

Speaker 1

Oh, you know what, that just might be the you know, no, but I know some black people who call it Valentine.

Speaker 2

I was about to say that might just beat the black I don't know.

Me and my family always add s's to everything.

Speaker 3

So it's Valentine's over here, Oh, were saying with an m oh, no, you're saying with the m two no, Valentine's listen.

Speaker 2

I'm just getting over a cold.

You have to forgive me whatever.

Speaker 5

Yeah, it's spread down here too, because it was like the plague for a little bit.

People were dropping like flies.

Speaker 2

Well down there.

I feel like if one person gets it, you guys are together so much.

Speaker 5

Everybody gets it, and it's like worse each time that it gets past through mutates.

Speaker 2

Not a mute.

Speaker 1

I'm gonna get those ivs.

What is your best and your worst Valentine's date?

Speaker 4

If you remember.

Speaker 5

I feel like the best ones are always the early ones, because like you're new in a relationship and you're they're trying to show out, so you get lots of presents, and you get the dinners, you get all that stuff.

So probably one of those my worst one.

I haven't had a bad one.

I mean Alex is pretty good with that.

Like we always go out to eat somewhere.

He does always give me flowers, but he gets me chocolate stuice because you know, it's gotta be balanced, you know.

Speaker 4

So yeah, I don't know if I've had a bad one.

What about you guys?

Speaker 2

Oh good cho Alex.

I agree.

Speaker 3

I think when it's earlier, or even when you're younger, it's like the first couple of real Valentines, those were special.

Back then, I used to really like flowers, but now I'm like, as we talked about, they.

Speaker 2

Might as well go in the garbage the next two days.

Sorry.

Yeah, I don't think I've had a bad one either.

Speaker 3

They're all just been super cute flowers, food, chocolates, eazy.

Speaker 1

I've never had a bad one.

But two years ago, the team was traveling, so it's just like me.

It was actually Colleen Saide, so it's me and Colleen, and I mean it wasn't bad, but it was just two of us.

It was like I missed all my teammates throughout a game and I was doing rehab all day.

Speaker 4

Oh that's the worst.

Speaker 2

I guess the best Valentine's would be with the girls I love.

Yeah, those are the best.

Speaker 3

Everyone's wearing pink and red, you're playing games, you drinking.

Speaker 2

Those are fun.

Speaker 4

Yeah, that is fun.

Speaker 2

I would say.

Speaker 1

Caroline on our team, she does something for Valentine's Day for the whole team every year, and it's like she makes us little like goodie baskets, because like a scavenger hunt and that is it's so thoughtful, it's so sweet.

The time and effort she puts into that, it's it's amazing.

So that is one of my favorite things.

Speaker 5

By that times, you always need a teammate like that on the team, like yours is Caroline, Mine was Kyla Irwin.

Oh, just like so thoughtful they do.

Yeah, like they do stuff like that.

They like the arts and crafts, scavenger hunt type stuff.

Every team needs one of those.

Speaker 2

That's just so fun.

Speaker 1

And it's like, especially like in February, everyone's tired going through it and you have that little pick me up.

Speaker 4

Yeah, that's awesome.

Speaker 1

All right, So this weekend is NBA All Star and this past summer, I was at my first WNBA All Star weekend and I'd never experienced anything like it.

It was so hectic, the events, the party is barely sleeping and I actually been into you.

I think that was WNBA Live you're going into and I was just leaving.

Yeah, I mean I was just blown away by how big it is.

And this is my first one, so I really have nothing to compare it to.

But I know you've been to a lot more than me.

How have you kind of seen a grown and what is your favorite thing about it?

Speaker 4

Now?

Indiana did a great job, Like this All Star was really well done just throughout the whole city.

It's just grown so much in that.

Like the my I never had a bad one.

So my first year was in Vegas and Vegas is fun.

Wow, Vegas is always good.

Speaker 5

But I know the ones before it just not a lot of events, Like the city didn't really embrace it.

Speaker 4

The sport wasn't as big as it is now.

Speaker 5

Now It's like we have superstar athletes, the you know, women's sports is exploding.

Everyone is here.

There's you know, thousands and thousands of people.

Like you see people's faces on billboards everywhere that is new.

They just really go all out.

So that's been really fun to see.

But yeah, I honestly I haven't had a bad one because I think almost all of mine have been in Vegas and Vegas is lit.

Speaker 2

So how many have you been?

Speaker 4

I have been to?

Speaker 5

How many years are I played?

I've been to five because they didn't have one in the Bubble and then I was pregnant one year.

Yeah, they should have done one the Bubble.

They should have done honorary just so.

Speaker 4

You can add it.

Speaker 2

That's been cool.

Speaker 4

I know you can add it to your resume.

Speaker 2

Are you going to NBA All Star?

Have you been to NBA All Star?

Speaker 4

I've been.

Speaker 5

I'm not going this year.

Okay, Yeah, it's a lot.

All Star just in general is a lot, and I'm on a boot.

It's just like it's too much.

Speaker 2

Okay.

What's your favorite event at all?

Start to watch?

Speaker 5

Probably the three point contests when they have good people in it.

That one's always super fun, Like it was cool obviously whenever Steph does it, but when he did it with Sabrina that was a fun twist.

Speaker 4

Yeah, I like that one the best.

Speaker 2

That was that was cool and they did that.

Speaker 4

Yeah, yeah, that was super cool.

Speaker 3

Okay, enough about all that all star stuff.

Let's talk about Unrivaled.

I am here wrapping the Maria.

Yes, yes, yes, so Unrivaled.

It's one on one weekend coming up.

How did one on one Unrivaled come to be?

Speaker 5

So when we were creating Unrivaled, we like one of our main reasons was we wanted to change like the landscape of women's basketball.

And when you go to like a park or pick up anywhere, like at the Y, it's always guys playing one on one and guys playing pickup.

You don't see a lot of women doing those things.

And so we kind of want to change the culture around that.

And you know, I don't know about you, guys, but like Alex can talk to his friends every single day the same conversation who's the best at Like who's the best basketball player ever?

Jordan, Kobe, Lebron, whatever it is.

They can have that conversation every day.

So like we want to create the same thing on the women's side, where it's like you can say, definitively for one year, I'm the best this year, and it creates like that conversation, and it creates that culture and even after the one last year you saw they were talking about are they going to do that at the men's all start now?

Speaker 4

Is that going to be a thing?

So I feel like we accomplished.

Speaker 2

Last years was so fun to watch.

Speaker 5

It was a blood bath.

It was a blood bath.

That was crazy.

That was what the fun was crazy.

Speaker 2

It was fun to watch girl I was in.

I said, you just wouldn't.

I don't know.

Speaker 3

It's really different to see a player really just on an island, like it's just you and what have you got in your bag?

Speaker 2

It's exciting.

It's fun.

Speaker 3

People pull out things that maybe they don't get to always pull out because they play in the system or you know.

Speaker 1

Leah, we were screaming in our problems bags.

Speaker 2

That was crazy.

Speaker 4

I know.

Speaker 5

That was awesome, deep deep in her bag, like she's pulling out stuff and I'm like, damn.

Speaker 3

I didn't know you had it either.

Speaker 2

No, Yeah, I'm excited to watch her again.

Speaker 3

I saw the brackets come out recently, so I'm like, yes, I'm tunes in.

Speaker 4

Yeah, it's gonna be fun.

It's gonna be like obviously I which I was playing, but it's gonna be cool to kind of take a step back and enjoy as a fan, to like really soak it in because last year I'm just thinking about who my matchup's gonna be.

I'm playing the games.

I'm not watching as much if they're not in my bracket.

So it'll be cool this year to kind of take it all in.

I'm excited.

Speaker 1

So last ye when you were playing, was it hard, Like what was the recovery like in between?

Speaker 4

It wasn't.

Speaker 5

Like, yes, it was hard, but not like a like a normal game.

The conditioning is just so intense, and we played multiple games a day, so we played two or three games a day, so you're just so tired, like you're really tired.

And then we're just beating the crap out of each other the first like two rounds, so someone got a concussion, Like.

Speaker 4

Oh my god, it was crazy.

Speaker 2

I mean, yes.

Speaker 4

We were having a ref meeting before the game started this year.

Speaker 2

Yes, there you go, yes, yes, oh my goodness.

Speaker 3

So how do you even prepare like for one on one, especially when your games are going back to back like that.

Speaker 4

You just gotta get to what you're good at.

Speaker 5

You can't, like you sound like you can scout, so I mean you can kind of scout in the way that's like, you know what she likes to do.

But when you're one on one is vulnerable, like you're talking about you're on an island.

You just have to play defense.

They miss like trying to get to your good spots on offense.

It's like it's it's it feels like war out there, like.

Speaker 4

You're on your own, not war like you want in the battle.

I don't know what's gonna happen.

Speaker 3

Oh my goodness.

A see if you guys to play one on one, what's your strategy?

What was your strategy?

Speaker 2

I'm hitting threes.

I'm hitting threes from the logo.

Speaker 4

From the logo.

Speaker 2

Yeah, oh man, I'm so excited to watch.

Are we actually play?

I think two?

Speaker 1

Or we play and then we traveled, So I'm really hoping that the plane has Wi Fi so we can all be huddled around a computer screen watching you guys.

Speaker 3

Yeah, I'll be tended for sure.

Speaker 2

All right, So let's put it again.

Speaker 4

Look at you.

Speaker 1

See you're a two time Olympic gold medalist.

What are your favorite Olympic events to watch?

Speaker 4

Oh?

I love gymnastics, track and field.

You know what.

Speaker 5

Weirdly, ping pong was so fun this year to watch.

It's like so interesting how they do that.

And then for the Winter Olympics.

I love figure skating so pretty I just watched that last night.

Yeah, it's so fun.

Well that was you guys like doing backflips now.

Speaker 2

The quad God.

Speaker 3

But I just want to say, there was a black woman in history who did a backflip and it didn't it was illegal because there's a legal exactly and now miss the quad God doing backflips.

But yeah, I think we just want to go metal and figure skating for USA.

So when wait, when you were at Olympics, did you get a chance to go to a lot of different sports and events in person?

Speaker 5

No, I want to add beach volleyball to that too, because I wanted to see that this year.

But my first year was during COVID, so we weren't even allowed to go for walks, like we were not allowed to leave the hotel.

And then this last year, I had my whole family there and this is a good thing, Like it was sold out for everything, for all the women's sports, especially and we only got like one athlete ticket.

So I wasn't gonna leave my family just to go by myself to watch an event.

So no, but hopefully I get to go again and I get to see some sports.

Speaker 2

Yeah, and next time it's gonna be in America.

La, right mm hmm.

Speaker 5

Yep, come on, it's gonna be I don't know how they're gonna do that.

Like the traffic is already crazy.

I don't They're gonna have to airlift us places, like, it's gonna be crazy.

Speaker 3

Oh man, la so spread out and they're having you know, nbl S a there too.

Speaker 2

I just I don't.

Hey, we're gonna figure it out.

Speaker 4

Though it's gonna be crazy.

It's gonna be crazy.

Speaker 2

What's the sport you think should be in the Olympics?

But is it?

Speaker 4

Dude?

Speaker 5

Maybe football, that would be interesting.

But I was gonna say, there's sports that I didn't know existed there in the Olympics.

So I don't even know if I can think of one.

Speaker 2

Oh no, I'm not gonna lie.

Speaker 3

I'd be watching basketball, gymnastics, figure skate, and that's pretty much.

Speaker 1

And I feel like those are the ones that I watch and other things like I'll flip through and watch a couple of minutes up here and there.

Speaker 4

Yeah, yeah, when I don't get curly.

Speaker 5

Yeah, like the shuffling, like when they're trying to clean up the ice.

Speaker 2

I don't understand that at all.

Speaker 4

I don't either.

I don't understand.

Yeah, I don't get it, but I do.

To get into that, I'll.

Speaker 2

Say, how to do that?

Speaker 3

Because and how did it come to be?

Like who was the first?

How did you get into the sport?

Speaker 4

Yeah?

Speaker 1

So if you were to compete in the Olympics in a different sport other than basketball, what's for?

Speaker 2

Would it be beach volleyball?

Speaker 4

I love it.

I love volleyball in high school when I played in middle school, and beach volleyball's fun, Like I would want to do that one.

Speaker 2

It seems so hard in the sand.

Speaker 4

Yeah it does.

And there's two of you, right, there's only two people.

It does seem really hard, But I don't know, it looks so fun.

Speaker 3

I remember one volleyball player.

Her name was like Misty May trainer.

I don't know if she was beach volleyball or regular, but I used to think she was just a beast.

Speaker 2

I used to love volleyball so much.

Speaker 4

Yeah, it's fun to watch, it's crazy.

Speaker 1

That's very fun to watch.

Wait, what's that sport?

This is not really, that's not a big sport.

But the sports like looks like a basket re court.

It looks like a whop, but there's no backboard.

Speaker 2

Netball.

Netball.

Speaker 5

Yeah, that overseas a lot like Australia is big there.

I don't understand that either, because it's like you can't come within three feet of them, but you can't.

Speaker 4

What is it like you can't see the ball?

I don't.

I don't understand the rules.

Speaker 2

I don't understand the rules.

Speaker 3

They can't dribble, I think, but you know what, you bring them over the basketball?

Speaker 2

The shot be looking right is crazy work.

Speaker 3

Okay, if you let's get into some fun facts about you.

Remember has it you were a tap dancing kiddo.

Speaker 2

It's a tap dance mm.

Speaker 5

Hmm, yes, man myself my tap shoes.

I love tap tap class in high school.

It was like in high school, it was like an elective you can take, like, you know, piano dance.

Speaker 4

I took tap.

Speaker 2

That's awesome.

I have to dust off the old shoes.

Speaker 4

Yeah, they're in my basement.

I got it.

They better I hope my food didn't grow since high school.

They better fit.

Speaker 1

Okay, well, yeah, I definitely think those need to be broken out that's just put that out of a party.

Start tapping.

Speaker 4

If I'm tapping at a party, take me home.

Speaker 2

Happen to you, Uber?

Speaker 4

Take the phones and take me home.

Speaker 2

Put your camera down.

Does that mean that melas in a top class or a dance class?

Speaker 5

I actually do want to put she's not yet.

I want to put her in dance because the most confident people I know, like in their body and in their space, are dancers.

And like, growing up, I was so tall.

She's clearly going to be tall.

She's super long.

I want her to be comfortable in her body.

So I actually do want to put her in dance.

Speaker 2

I love that a lot.

Speaker 3

That's a great idea for sure, learn how to control your body and getting used to your length.

Speaker 2

It's like the tall girl struggle.

Yeah so that's awesome.

Speaker 4

Yeah yeah.

Speaker 3

Another fun fact.

You love to read, just like miss easy Funds.

Speaker 4

Yeah, what are you reading?

Speaker 2

I'm gonna reading Slump right now.

Oh my goodness.

Speaker 1

But I love a good mystery thriller, like a romance book here and there, but definitely fiction, not a big non fiction.

Speaker 2

What about you same?

Speaker 5

I like both of those two.

I'm super in a fantasy right now.

So my favorite series is Thrown of Glass, so I'm rereading it for like the third time.

Speaker 2

Wait, it's not so good.

A long series and.

Speaker 4

It is seven seven or eight books?

Yeah?

Speaker 2

Wow, okay, I think the first couple.

Speaker 5

So you should read did you read like a Qatar the It's way better.

Speaker 2

Way better the same author or is this okay?

Okay?

Now I'm excited.

Maybe it's going to break my reading something.

Speaker 4

Yeah, it's good.

It's like world building, so it's really good.

Speaker 2

Okay.

Speaker 1

I'm not huge in fantasy.

Those were the first fantasy books I read in a while.

But I'm open.

If he says maybe.

Speaker 4

It'll change your mind, maybe it'll change your mind.

Speaker 1

I think it will.

So you're currently reading that.

What are your top three books that you've read ever or just recently?

Speaker 4

Just recently?

What have I read recently?

Speaker 2

It could be ever whichever, whichever.

Speaker 4

No, I've read like embarrassing stuff recently, you know, like smart books.

So I'm going to.

Speaker 2

Just texting me later.

Speaker 5

I don't even know what I've read recently.

Honestly, that's like not filth.

I had to get back to you.

Speaker 2

That's fair, that's fair.

We can move on.

Speaker 3

You wear many hats, so how do you relax.

How do you have self care?

Speaker 5

Definitely reading, because it's like an escape.

It's like a movie in your head, you know.

So I really like that.

Just hanging out with my friends, hanging out with my family, like being off my phone really because that is I feel like what creates anxiety.

Speaker 4

Go online.

Speaker 5

Everything's so negative, like the world's in turmoil, everything is bad.

So like disconnecting and just being happy with my actual like real life people, that kind of helps me to compress.

Speaker 2

Yeah, that's really good.

Okay, I have a question.

Speaker 1

So, not that I have any experience in the W and what that looks like, but I feel like from the outside looking in, it seems like, at least with the W, like it's very professional, like business like like you practice.

Maybe you hang out with your teammates, like maybe you have a team dinner, you guys go out whatever.

But it seems very much like everyone once you leave the facility, like everyone goes their separate ways, but unrival it seems like you guys, like everyone's hanging out all the time, You're having a great time.

What is that like when you have a family, does that like what?

I don't know, what is that dynamic?

Like with other players, with your family with Like, I see you're around all the time with Mila and with other players, but like, is that.

Speaker 4

Normal to hang out with other players a lot?

Speaker 1

Yeah, but I don't know what the like when you have your own family, things need to work, worry about with them.

Speaker 5

With you, Yeah, it's definitely easier here at Unrivaled because like we all live in the same place, you know, so it's way easier to just like go to someone else's floor or someone else's apartment and hang out in the w Like people might live in different you might live in the same place.

They might have their own spot.

And it's just like my team this past two years, I've been talking about this a lot.

It felt more like college, where like you guys are so close, it feels like a sisterhood.

We hang out all the time, we go to dinners, we do all that.

My first couple of years in the league, like five before that, we were so close.

Like my team has always been great, but people are in different stages of it.

So you know, like I'm a rookie, I have people who are about to retire, people in the middle.

You know, people have families, like you said, and we didn't.

It was very professional like, and I wasn't used to that coming out of college, and so it is like really special when you get to do that, especially here at Unrivaled, where it feels like that college environment again because we're around each other so much, like people are hanging out outside of the facility.

So it really just depends on your team kind of like the chemistry and your team.

But I think it's definitely a lot easier to do that here at a rival.

Speaker 2

M Hm, it looks like a lot.

It's fun.

Speaker 4

It is really fun.

Speaker 5

It feels like it feels like college like it's just really fun, and you don't get that a lot anymore in professional settings.

Speaker 3

I was, yeah, I was gonna say, as someone who's watched a W game and an Arrival game, a W.

Speaker 2

Feels a little bit more.

Speaker 3

I don't know like the proper way to describe it, but it's like a little bit more space, while unrival is a little bit more intimate.

Speaker 2

I think that's the way to describe it.

Speaker 3

Like it feels close, it feels like you're really in it and you're involved, while some games in the in the W it can feel a little bit like, oh okay, like I watched the game from a distance.

Speaker 2

Yeah, but yeah, yeah.

Speaker 5

Well the arena is so like tight also that there's not a bad seat, and it does feel super intimate, like you can see the player's face as you can hear they're saying, they're walking right by you.

So it definitely has that intimate feel.

On purpose, we wanted it to be smaller because of that kind of creates that like peak behind a curtain almost.

Speaker 2

Yeah, for sure, definitely gives that good job.

Speaker 4

Thank you.

I'll tell the guys upstairs you said it because I didn't do anything.

Speaker 2

Who are some of your closest friends and teammates.

Speaker 5

I Page is one, Asre's one, Rachel's one.

We hang out a lot like as a group.

But then also like my Minnesota teammates are here, so like Courtney and Tea and Land, and then there's also people Like What I really like about Unrivaled is you get to know people that you wouldn't necessarily otherwise because when you're playing on the court, some people have like a persona.

We're entertainers, and so sometimes your personality on the court isn't the same off the court.

So it's been really fun to be in the training room with people and to hang out with them and to get to get to know their personalities more So through that, I've gotten to like, you know, like Ezzie is such a sweetheart, and like Dom is really cool, and just meeting all these different people get to you get to know them more.

Speaker 4

So it's really that's like my favorite part about being down here.

Speaker 2

It's amazing.

Speaker 5

Aliyah, I love a Leah.

I'm really sad I didn't get to play with her.

Hang out with Alea a lot too.

I was sad that I didn't play with her this year.

Speaker 1

Yeah, that really is such a good point.

Though, I feel like people on the court are way different than how they are off the court.

Speaker 2

Yeah, totally a chance to get to know everyone.

Speaker 5

Yeah, I mean, you're like in such a high stress situation.

Everyone's so competitive.

It brings out like not your best in terms of making friendships, and so being away from that setting, like not in the mix of competition is fun to you know.

Speaker 4

And I got like Skylar's hilarious.

Speaker 5

She's so funny to be around, just people that you didn't know about before, you know.

Speaker 4

So it's cool.

Speaker 2

So let's talk a little bit more about you, U Khon.

Speaker 3

We asked almost every Yukon alone that comes on here for a funny or crazy Gino CD story.

Speaker 4

Oh boy, okay, that we can.

Speaker 2

That's a podcast friendly.

Speaker 4

Okay.

Speaker 5

One of the craziest things that happened in my time there is we got kicked out of the locker room.

I think we were playing like two lane or something, and we won by thirty, but we didn't like, we didn't play well win by thirty, you know what I mean.

And it had been like a long stretch of bad games.

And coach came into the locker room after the game.

He's like, make sure all your stuff is out of the locker room by six am.

You guys, you don't deserve to have like you're not working hard to take advantage of all the things that the people behind you have built.

Speaker 4

All that stuff.

Speaker 5

So we clean out all of our lockers that night.

We had to be in the gym by six am.

All of our practice stuff was gone.

We had like this prey somewhere, a gray cotton like from two thousand, all like triple extra largest.

I had to tiet extra tie for roasting.

It's not saying up.

And we go into the gym.

The lights are off that heat is off.

He makes us way for like an hour.

There's like one light on, so it's it's mood lighting.

It's freezing.

He makes us way for an hour.

He walks into the gym.

Finally he's like, start running, said they put thirty minutes on the scoreboard.

So we're running laps, just running, and then finally the last like I don't know, two minutes.

I'm like, oh, it's the last one.

I'm gonna push through.

He puts another twenty minutes on.

I've never felt so defeated in my whole life.

So we keep running, and then finally he's like, Okay, you can come off.

You've been running hard enough, you can come off.

You can start running hard enough.

And then there's like a couple people left, and he just made them keep running and keep running and keep running until the time ran out, and then they added more time.

I was like, yo, yo, I'm seeing crazy.

Speaker 3

I'm setting a trend here.

You don't be kicking people out that locker room quick.

Speaker 2

Oh my gosh, he's not.

That's insane.

Speaker 5

Oh And then like we've been out of the locker room for I don't know, like two weeks, and he told lou like.

Lee was talking to him in his office and he's like, you need to like speak up for your teammates.

Speaker 4

Ask it.

Put back into the locker room.

Speaker 5

He was hyping her up, and then in the circle in front of everyone was asking her to the locker room.

Speaker 4

He said, no, wow, insane.

Speaker 2

At least she was brave enough to do it.

Yeah, that was a test.

Yeah, everything's a test.

Everything's a test.

Super successful.

Speaker 5

Honestly, it made me into the person I am today.

I'm super thankful for it.

It's just like it creates good stories.

Speaker 2

It does.

Speaker 1

And it's even funnier that you said it was after like a thirty point win.

Speaker 4

Yeah, it always is, isn't it?

Like just not the right kind of thirty point win?

Speaker 3

No, Sophie draft your all time yukon starting five.

Speaker 4

I would do Sue d Maya Sue And.

Speaker 2

Yes, I'm pretty sure I made this draft before.

Speaker 4

Yeah.

If I didn't put me, I would quit.

Rebecca Lobo.

Speaker 2

Great five.

I don't know.

It's not gonna be too many l's playing against that too for that.

Speaker 3

Yeah.

All right, So now we are going to hop into our fudding games.

We are going to be playing a new game called food win Yukon Alumni Edition.

So I'm gonna give you two Yukon players.

You'll tell me if they played one on one who'd win.

Okay, all right, First up, we have Bria Hartley versus Tip Pays, Tip pays.

Speaker 2

Is see how you feel about this.

I agree with that.

Okay, Tip pays.

Speaker 3

Versus super one on one one.

Speaker 4

Probably Tip Page, she's so quick.

Speaker 2

I'm also agree with that.

Speaker 3

Okay, Tip pays versus Page Backers.

Speaker 4

Like, I don't say Paige, she'll be mad, but I do think Paige would win.

Speaker 3

Okay, you go with Paige a Z I guess Okay Pays versus Tina Charles.

Speaker 5

Oh wow, gyms Tina Tina Tina.

Now we're Tina prime.

Speaker 2

Ooh ooh prime because I mean now.

Speaker 5

Okay, yeah, yeah, I think Tina when she's too big, like and she can like, Tina was a beast.

Speaker 2

Mm hmm.

Speaker 3

Okay, azy, I'm gonna go with Paige Okay, okay, So let's say Tina Charles versus Stephanie Dalton Tina.

Yeah, okay, Tina versus Aliah Edwards.

Speaker 4

They're both tall.

Speaker 2

That's tough because Aliah got them.

Speaker 4

I know, I know, I'm gonna say Tina again.

Tina was tough.

Speaker 2

I'm in AGRANCEZ.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, sorry.

I guess Tina Charles or Gabby Williams.

Speaker 5

Oh, you know what, I'm actually gonna say Gabby because Gabby's defense is so good.

I feel like she might be able to wat Tina up.

And then she's also super quick, so oh that's a tough one.

Speaker 1

Though.

Speaker 4

I don't know.

Some of these are just like who's sitting shots?

One on one.

I'm gonna say Gabby because I think her defense honestly would stop Tina.

Speaker 2

Okay, Gabby are on a Stewart Stewie?

Wait, I don't know games.

Speaker 3

I know these are tough, all right, last suit Stewie versus Maya More.

Speaker 4

Oh, Maya Maya More versus DT.

Oh my gosh, that'll be a generational game.

Speaker 2

I know millions of youse.

Speaker 4

I mean, is this the championship Championship?

Yeah, I don't want they don't know.

Speaker 5

They're like so similar and one on one I feel like they'd be very similar.

I don't know, I don't know.

I feel like I have to say Mike because she's my favorite player, but it would be so good.

Speaker 4

I don't I would just be entertained.

Speaker 2

I'm going with Maya.

I'm also going with Maya.

That's my favorite player too.

Speaker 4

Yeah.

Speaker 3

Okay, So that's the end of our would win it you cont edition?

Shout out to Maya Moore, she wears the crown.

Next, we're going into our.

Speaker 2

What the fud?

Speaker 3

So our what the fun of the week?

Is something that happened this week that made you go, what the fud?

Speaker 2

You have anything in my feet?

Speaker 5

I'm gonna say something that happened today with the first ever trades in on rival history.

Speaker 4

Oh, threeteen trade?

Speaker 2

What the fun does it be?

Announce yet?

Speaker 4

Yeah?

This morning?

Speaker 2

Oh yeah, okay, yeah, but can you share the trades?

Speaker 5

Yeah it's okay.

So Azuree went from the rose to the hive.

Okay, Sonaya went from the hive to the vinyl, and Courtney Williams went from the vinyl to the breeze.

Speaker 2

I am crying.

Speaker 3

Yes, I cannot wait to see that dynamic between in the breeze because.

Speaker 2

He does have young ter energy she does.

Speaker 3

But yo, I can't wait.

That's gonna be fun to watch.

I know, I'm excited.

It's gonna be fun.

Speaker 2

That's a great one.

The fun that's gonna be really fun to watch.

Speaker 3

We were talking about it on the last pot, but what you did in Philly was mind blowing historic, Like I got even a little bit emotional because people don't realize, like as someone who's played the game and watched the game grow, it was such a like a huge moment.

Speaker 5

Philly was That was like the most unbelievable crowd I've ever especially when Marina was like.

Speaker 2

Joe Coags forty seven.

Speaker 5

A performance I've never seen in my whole life, Like I've never seen anything like that ever in the crowd with it just in like insane.

Speaker 4

It was unbelievable.

Speaker 2

Wait, I have a question.

Speaker 1

So when you're sitting there watching and like you said, talking about one on one like being out, you'll have a different perspective.

You actually get to enjoy this season, being the whole season, being able to sit and watch and appreciate, but especially being there, Like how does that feel knowing that like you've helped create this, like you really are making history.

Speaker 4

I mean it's really hard to sit out because I want to be playing and I have such a tense moment, especially when the games are on.

But it does, like you said, it kind of has given me an appreciation to where like I can sit back and because before I was playing, I was wearing a player hat, like I'm here to win with my team.

Now I get to really enjoy people like I get to enjoy the product.

I get to be involved in, like the decision making stuff more because I'm not you know, I'm not playing.

So it's just it has given me like a better appreciation even in the last year.

So that part has been really cool.

Speaker 2

That's insane, like see you are her.

Speaker 3

Yeah, congratulations, Thank you for ever in the history books.

Speaker 2

Thank you so much for coming on.

Speaker 4

Thanks for having me.

It was fun.

Speaker 1

Yeah, thank you for joining.
