All right, I'm at my West Coast wedding and there's jazzy jazz right there.

Here's what I know so far.

Nebraska being Northwestern at the moment, Oregon's offense is doing nothing against Wisconsin.

Alabama beats South carolina'm up barely Texas, Mississippi State but barely Stanford Miami are tied in the third quarter or something.

I can't wait to find out.

There are games everywhere.

Michigan's winning, Arizona State is losing.

Ties on his own.

Tye, this is you take it away.

I'm that for me.

I'm a man, I'm for I've heard so many players say, well, I want to be happy.

You want to be happy for Dake Ada State?

Is that whoo whoo?

And no Dan and tie for bowlers?

You heard the man.

So I have good news, I have bad news.

The good news is that there's going to be a show tonight, and certainly there is no shortage of stuff to talk about.

In light of what we saw go down in week nine.

We called it seat belt Saturday.

There was good reason for that.

I think we experienced a little bit of that turbulence.

So that's all good.

The bad part is, well, you just saw the intro video.

Danny is not with me tonight.

Dan is at a fall wedding, of all things, for a college football podcaster, Dan Rubinstein is at a fall wedding.

It's a very close personal friend.

Sometimes you just got to do the thing.

He wouldn't have gone unless he absolutely had to.

He is certainly here with us in spirit, and he sent that in.

You could see the aforementioned blue whale of formalware that we have talked about on this show in that video.

If you are watching us on YouTube otherwise, I guess the bad news is that you're just stuck with me tonight.

So this show is going to feel a little bit different.

I'm not going to be able to cover as much ground.

I am going to do my part to do a solo show.

We will see how this goes.

Literally, in the span of time we have been doing this show since two thousand and eight, I have never done anything.

So I've done solo interviews, I have never done a solo show.

So we're going to do our part.

Hopefully you can do yours as well.

What I am after a little bit later on in this episode is what you learned the most in week nine.

So on tonight's show, look we got a lot of ground to cover.

I'm going to try my.

Best to not make it a SEC only show, but look, most of the key storylines went down in the SEC, so we got to cover that.

We'll hit that at the very top.

We'll go conference by conference, and I'll give you just some quick reactions to things that jumped out at me.

There were other big games that went on obviously around college football that I think need to be mentioned.

If there are some that I can't get into great detail.

On Dan and I will knock those out on the Tuesday episode.

Okay, those are the ground rules for what we're gonna do here tonight.

Were, of course going to play your reverbs.

We'll get to that a little bit later on in the episode.

Of course, we'll show your comments, and as per usual, to close things out, we'll give dood alerts.

I put out the call on our social accounts.

We got a great bunch, a bunch of great suggestions that came through.

So we will get to that in due course.

But why don't we start here.

We called it seatbelt Saturday because Dan was foreseeing some turbulence ahead.

What we didn't.

Foresee was that there would be some turbulence at ten oh five am courtesy of various social channels on Saturday morning.

And by that, I'm referring to a tweet, a post, a zeit, a whatever, that came across the wire from the Athletics Diana Rassini quote.

I'm told representatives for Texas coach Steve Sarkisian have let NFL decision makers know that he would be interested in potential head coaching openings, including that of the Tennessee Titans.

End quote.

Obviously Sark's superagent Jimmy Sexton quickly denied the reports.

But it's out there now.

It's not going anywhere.

Those rumors are just going to persist.

As you know, we have seen a couple big chips fall now over the last couple weeks, over the last two Sundays in particular, I have no idea if we're going to see anything more starting to marrow.

We will talk through some of the results in the SEC.

You can make a case for one.

We'll get there, I promise.

But everyone who does what I am doing right now, at some point or another, has ranked one opening against another, or has looked out across the landscape and says, I think this might be the next one to open up.

It's already an intriguing list of power conference openings.

It is a much much spicier thought experiment.

If we add Texas to that mix, there are a bunch of big ones in limbo.

But if that one is a possibility, it totally changes the game.

Now.

I look at the list of openings right now, and I see Penn State, Florida, Virginia, Tech, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, UCLA, and Stanford.

I also look at Auburn Florida State, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Arizona, UNC, LSU will get to that and Texas as potentials and suddenly this is a really really interesting coaching carousel.

Now.

I don't know if the Texas thing has any weight to it or not, but clearly it was leaked for a reason.

And so if there is any possibility that Texas is now going to throw its hat in the ring, I would much rather be the likes of somebody like a James Franklin than somebody like a Penn State, because there is going to be crazy competition for all of these openings, and you gotta believe that if you are halfway decent at your job, you stand to get a huge pay day.

You are going to be rich even if you're just okay at being a head coach, if you are just mentioned for one of these potential openings.

So, as we said, seat belt Saturday, buckle up.

This is gonna get weird.

If Texas ends up being part of this conversation.

It's going to be like dropping a second Jupiter in the Solar system, right.

It is going to get real weird, real fast.

And there is one game in the SEC that might have an outsized influence.

Texas A and M absolutely positively throttled LSU.

Guests who just got furded.

In my opinion, right now, Texas A and M is the best team in the SEC.

And I think of all the things that I saw across college football in Week nine, what Texas A and M did, especially in the second half against LSU, that was the most impressive performance.

They went into halftime trailing eighteen to fourteen, they came back out and absolutely blew.

The doors off of LSU.

This was like when the computer goes into fu mode when you're playing the college football video game, really when you're playing any video game.

It was a completely different team after halftime.

Marcel Reid turned into Lamar Jackson, Casey Concepcion turned into Devin Hester.

LSU stopped tackling like all together until later in that game.

I think Herbie even mentioned it on the broadcast that there were fans starting to clear out completely from Tiger Stadium.

What they didn't mention, but I'm sure somebody will mention at some point before long, is that Brian Kelly's buyout is something north of fifty two million dollars.

I honestly did not expect we would be having this type of conversation this early in the season.

I know it hasn't gone great for LSU so far this year, but wow, the turn that this thing has taken by getting blown out at home against a conference opponent like Texas A and M got I just I know what people say in our discord, I know what people have sent into us via the social channels and email.

I honestly cannot believe it took this turn, especially with the commitment that we saw from LSU in the offseason to beef themselves up via the transfer portal.

High school recruiting has obviously still been very, very strong.

There is going to be a much longer conversation about LSU football and Brian Kelly and whether this team is quitting.

Fans are going to have to chime in and let me know what they think.

But I know what I saw in that second half and after they went in with a lead at halftime, to come out and get destroyed the manner that they did that was really really upsetting and really really disheartening about what the future of this LSU team looks like.

The story here though, should be Texas A and M.

You know, it shouldn't be all doom and gloom on the LSU side.

A and M was superior in all three phases.

They were superior on offense, defense, and special teams.

It was not the cleanest performance from Marcel Reed he threw two picks, but I think it might have been the best that I've seen in a while, considering the circumstances right on the road, hostile environment, Tiger Stadium at night.

I mean, that is a tough, tough setting to go and win a game and be this dominant.

So this wasn't a game so much where they needed to lean on him as a passer, but it absolutely was a game in which he showed what he can do with his legs.

And so I joke around about him being Lamar Jackson.

He's not, but he kind of looked like it in this game.

He was really really effective on the ground with his legs, and the vaunted LSU defense, which we've heard a lot about, gave up a ton of yards and a ton of points.

His legs were just killer and they didn't really have an answer for that.

And defensively, like LSU was on skates here, they just could not get any momentum they couldn't get any series of stops.

Casey Concepsion just killed him with punt returns, one of which went back for a touchdown in the third quarter.

So, look, it's going to get spicy here down the stretch.

I think there is a very clear path for Texas A and M to continue this trajectory and find itself in the SEC title game, at a minimum, get into the playoffs.

The LSU thing is, Look, I've said it a couple times now, but it's going to get weird.

They've got Bama in two weeks.

That game's in Tuscaloosa.

There's a good chance that is lost number four, which potentially sets up a really interesting stage for a game to close out the year against Oklahoma, where you've got two teams that are vying for a seven and five record, and I don't know if that bodes well for either coach.

There's a chance one of those two coaches won't even be there.

And I'm looking at you, Brian Kelly.

I mentioned Oklahoma.

Ole Miss won this one in Norman thirty four to twenty six on a wet, rainy field and there were guys sliding around all over the place that looked like they were playing this one on ice.

Interestingly, this was Lane Kiffin's first road win over a ranked SEC opponent, which kind of seems crazy it's been this long without him having accomplished that, but here we are.

This one also came amid the rumors that he's the top target at Florida.

I got to give Lane Kiffen a lot of credit for the way that he handled this, because we have seen a full spectrum of coaches now talking through whether the rumors are true are not true, ranging from blaming the media to sort of being evasive but complementary in the form of whatever Matt Ruhle was trying for.

Lane Kiffin didn't try to run from any of this.

He called a meeting, He addressed the team.

He told the guys it was due to their success on the field that these rumors persist at all.

He didn't deny that there was interest, either from his end or from Florida's end.

But among the ways that we have seen coaches deal with these types of things, it seemed like the more adult version of a response, and at least initially it seems as though the response was pretty positive from those who were in the room and those who have had a chance to think about it and analyze what Lane did.

I give him a lot of credit for it.

Maybe as a result, Lane looked like he was trying to little extra to be the old miss coach today.

I don't know if he's trying to overcompensate for some of the stuff that's swirling out there.

But there are some weird moves in this game.

Weren't there a couple PlayStation decisions.

The first one that comes to mind was a sequence in the first half where Trinidad Chambliss drove the field, had a ton of momentum, was playing especially well, got down into the red zone, he gives him the hook, gives him the hook.

Time for Austin Simmons to come in.

Let's see what he can do.

Austin Simmons a little bit of a bigger guy.

I've seen some speculation Brooks.

Austin out online was saying that, well, Trinidad Chambliss passing inside the five yard line has had a bunch of tip passes.

Austin Simmons bigger dude.

Maybe maybe that'll help well.

Austin Simmons air mailed two incompletions.

They ended up having to settle for a field goal.

Then there was another circumstance in the third quarter, fourth and one from their own twenty five.

Lane decides he's going to go for it, doesn't get it, turns the ball over to Oklahoma.

That could have been a turning point for Oklahoma.

Instead, they end up having to settle for three points.

That actually ended up being more of the story in this game.

It was not decisions, thankfully, that Lane Kiffin had to make.

It was the fact that Old Miss came to play with its defense and they put Oklahoma in a situation where the Sooners could not convert on some of these key moments.

Oklahoma got the ball back, they had to settle for three.

Situation like this, you just can't settle for three.

Even still, Oklahoma storm back.

They were down twelve.

They outscored Ole Miss sixteen to three in the third quarter.

They end up taking a very slim lead, but Old Miss gets a job done in the end.

What Ole Miss did on defense Oklahoma, you look at their box score, three hundred and fifty nine yards one hundred and forty one on two pass plays or two long plays.

I guess one long pass play, one running play.

John Mattier was sort of held in check.

He wasn't able to kill them with his legs, which I think was a real possibility in this game coming into it.

It was something that we had talked a lot about.

But John Mattire was held mostly in check as a runner.

John Mattier also held himself in check a little bit, right, John Mattier.

John Mattier had an opportunity late to check down to take an easy fourth and five conversion, decides he's going to try and throwing down the sidelines incomplete.

That's the ballgame.

So I credit Ole Miss what they did on defense.

Defense was not necessarily what we expected a whole lot from their side of coming into this one, but well and behold, they got the job done and held Oklahoma pretty well in check.

I think they deserve most of the credit.

They've got a very workable schedule in.

Front of them.

Now the rest of the way, there are teams in front of them that are going to lose.

I think with a little bit of help, they could end up in the SEC title game.

With a little bit of luck, they could avoid the SEC Title Game altogether and still get into the playoff.

But it looks really good.

If you're an Old misfan on the Oklahoma side, this was another game against a powerful opponent where you don't score more than twenty six points.

Their schedule the rest of the way is four teams that were ranked at the start of this week.

They're at Tennessee, They're at Bama, They've got Miszoo and LSU at home.

I mentioned this a moment ago, but a seven and five season, or playing for a seven and five season against LLC to close out the year, that's very much on the table.

So I think a disappointing performance from Oklahoma.

But if you're an Old Miss fan, this was a big win to go into Norman again, the first one for Lane Kiffen as a coach of Old Miss.

A win over a ranked opponent on the road.

Some of the other games in the SEC that are of note, and I promise I want to talk about some other conferences here.

I got to talk about this Alabama game, if only because I picked South Carolina outright.

I picked them outright.

I thought it was going to happen.

There was a chance it was going to happen.

I stuck my neck out last game of October for South Carolina, biggest home game left on the slate.

They always have one game of year under Shane Beemer.

That doesn't make any sense.

They came into this one a healthy, double digit dog at home, and I thought for a moment I was going to be right, because it looked like I was going to be right.

I got the cover, so you know, it wasn't a total loss.

But Bama was down twenty two to fourteen with about ten minutes left.

They got two really quick touchdowns from Jeremy Bernard in the final two and a half minutes to win it.

The first was a really nice seventy nine yard drive that ate up almost eight minutes.

He caught the touchdown pass almost immediately after that.

The ensuing drive for South Carolina, Lenoras Sellers, who was really good in this game for the most part, coughs up a fumble sets up a second touchdown.

It was a sick play and an awesome run for Jeremy Bernard.

A fake reverse to Tye Simpson.

I don't even know how you draw that up, but he goes around the end untouched, scampers into the end zone twenty five yards out on third and ten.

That gives Alabama twenty nine to twenty two lead.

They eventually end up winning.

It was a great escape for the Crimson Tide.

It really was.

I'm not going to call it a clunker.

I don't think it was a clunker.

They found a way to win a tough spot on the road in South Carolina played pretty well.

I saw that.

Calin de Boor spoke about coming up biggest in some of the most critical moments, and I think that pretty much sums it up in this game.

Alabama was really good when they had to be, especially late, and that's why they ended up winning this one.

So they deserve their flowers.

As the kids like to say, Ty Simpson's playing like a QB one.

I don't know what his draft status is going to be, but Ty Simpsons's very much going to be in that conversation come draft time.

I still think it's mostly a one dimensional offense.

They're still way more centered around the past, but they're scheming ways to get Jeremy Bernard and Ryan Williams the ball and key situations.

Daniel Hill, the young running back, didn't do a whole lot of running, but was really effective in the passing game.

Had a couple of big plays in this one.

I'm really impressed by this Alabama offense.

I am curious if at some point they're going to run into somebody that can take more advantage of the fact that they're so based around the past.

But for right now, you got to feel pretty good about where Alabama's at.

I just you know, there's no two ways about that.

The problem again is that this one was there for South Carolina.

It was there, and you know, if they'd all repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot, I think it's there for him.

Bama's first touchdown was on a pick six that was juggled by result Faison.

Then there was also a holding call that wiped out a touchdown run for Leonoris.

There was what does it say here?

Another holding call that killed another drive all together.

There was a missfield goal just for good measure, by the way, the missfield goal did I mention?

All of that happened in the first half.

It was all in one half.

Then we had some more weirdness go down in the second half with the funnel that I talked about a second ago.

I'm not frustrated because I picked South Carolina and they didn't win.

I am frustrated for the South Carolina fans out there who watched this game, who also know that they could have won this game, probably should have won this game, and they still found a way to lose it.

So bigger picture, good win for Alabama.

Bigger picture, it's a bad season for the Cocks.

Man just there's a pretty good chance.

It's going to get worse too.

It is.

It's like starting to look more and more like a four and eight, five and seven year.

I don't know what the ramifications are for that.

I don't want to sit here and speculate, but it's it.

Loss is like this sting.

Let's leave it at that.

The final game that I'm going to talk about in the SEC and then I promise you we're going to move on.

It is not going to be the Texas overtime win over Mississippi State.

I want to save that one.

I want to talk about that one on Tuesday with Dan arch Manning looked like he got knocked around pretty good, got hit kind of in the back of the head, was walking off a little bit woozy.

I hope he's okay.

Texas emerges with an escape victory in overtime over Mississippi State, who continues to be one of the better stories in college football.

I want to talk about Vandy, you want to talk about the doors with me.

Seventeen to Ten's your final score.

Vanderbilt beats Massoo.

I had Miszoo in this one.

I think Dan took Vandy.

Dan always takes Vandy.

So look, my theory here.

Was that Missoo was going to be good enough on defense to hold down Diego Pavia.

I was not wrong about that.

Okay, they held him down for the most part.

The Miszoo defense held Vandy to two hundred and sixty five yards.

That's a season low.

Eighty of those yards, by the way, came on a long touchdown run in the third quarter, So if you take that out, I don't know.

I'm not a math major.

One hundred and eighty five yards total on offense.

You can't ask for much more from a defense.

I don't care who you're planning.

So this one was very much a rock fight here.

It was just three to three at a half.

Both teams kind of hurt themselves with penalties.

There were a couple key turning points, though that went against Missoo.

I think the bigger, more existential turning point was what went down with bau Pribula, and this one's potentially a killer.

Beau Brabula hurt what I think was his right ankle in the third quarter, ends up getting carted off, gets carted off, and they transfer him to a wheelchair to push him into the locker room, which is like a doubly bad look.

I felt horrible for him.

Had an air cast on, which is never a good sign.

That is a huge blow to the Missouri campaign.

You might recall part of the reason why bau Bribula got the job so easily at the start of the year was because Sam Horn got hurt.

So Bo gets the job.

Bo has had a good year, but quarterback depth behind him him was immediately the question what happens if Bo goes down?

Bo went down, so.

They turn it over to Matt Zohlers, who's also from Pennsylvania, a little bit farther east than Bo, who's from York.

But Matt Zohlers is a four star.

I don't think he looked out of his depth.

I think he's got a good arm.

He does have some happy feet, a you know, didn't have a great feel for the pocket.

But all things considered, stepping into the circumstances like this, I thought he did a pretty good job.

He led a drive at the start of the fourth quarter of that tide at a ten apiece, so he wasn't so much liability out there In terms of this game, though.

The moment that I'm thinking of on the Missou side is what went down with Jamal Roberts.

Jamal Roberts fumbled with seven minutes left, Vander gets the ball back.

They're able to siphon like five minutes off the clock, end up scoring a go ahead touchdown.

Maszoo gets the ball, Matt Zolers gets one more shot to win it.

Kind of Hemming and Hahn trying to like Nickel and dime their way down the field.

I looked at the clock before the last play.

I believe there were six seconds left.

Everybody goes down Hail Mary, Mazoo catches the pass.

They catch the hail Mary.

It's about that far short.

They went to video review.

It's about that far short of the goal line.

Who the hell knows what happens if this one goes to overtime.

Just a bit short.

So it wasn't a clean game for either side.

I do think the Massoo defense did what it needed to do against Diego Pavia.

But again, the story of Vanderbilt and Diego Pavia continues.

They are suddenly seven and one.

It is their best start since nineteen forty one.

They close out their season on the road against Texas, US at home against Auburn, at home against Kentucky, and also on the road against Tennessee.

They might be better than all four of those teams right now.

I still have questions about what happens if Vandy gets in a shootout, but that's neither here nor there.

Vandy right now, with the way that they're playing, they're just finding ways to do it, and you got to give them props for that.

Notably, I thought Missoo took Vandy out of its game today because we've talked about it a lot on our show.

Vandy likes to control time of possession.

They like to slow you down.

They like to force he to be efficient in order to beat him.

They didn't do any of that today.

They lost time of possession.

They lost time of possession by about thirteen minutes.

They were not the more efficient team at all in terms of Vandy and what we've seen this season.

This was a clunker.

And they still found a way to win.

And if you're a good team, that's.

What you got to do.

That's what went down in the SEC.

Over in the Big twelve.

BYU forty one Iowa Stay twenty seven.

So I had the BYU Iowa State game in the quad box like all afternoon because we talked about it in the preview.

Might remember if you listened to it the afternoon slate of games, you could have built two quads that were of equal interest.

It was really, really, really interesting in that time slot.

Amid all the other games going on, this is the one I wanted to watch.

All I wanted to do was watch Bear Bachmeyer.

Honestly, I'm not even kidding.

True freshman number forty seven, wonderful head of hair, which we've talked about a lot here.

Plus he's part of the Bachmeyer football dynasty.

All of these things are very important on the solid verble.

Now, I will note he is not a finished product.

Okay, he is not a finished product.

He still has happy feet, there are still some ill advised throws.

He is not perfect but what is most encouraging if you're a BYU fan, is they are not scheming around him.

If you watch that game, if you watch any of what bear Bachmeyer has done leading up to this game progressively, so it is more and more the case where the coaching staff is not treating him like a liability, and that is really exciting, especially with how well they are playing otherwise.

Whether it's a stroke of good luck, whether it's really good coaching, maybe it's a combination of the two.

It probably is.

But bear Bachmeyer already seems to me like he's better than Jake Rhetz left and given the circumstances in the run up to this season, to have caught lightning in a bottle with a true freshman is crazy.

It almost never happens.

He looked awesome in this game.

He was the entire offense.

In this game.

BYU had four hundred and ten total yards.

Bear Bachmeyer had three hundred.

And fifty six of them.

Iowa State came in as like a top twenty five caliber defense.

It was clear fairly early that we knew watching from home what BYU was going to do, and certainly John Haycock knew what they were going to do and build the whole plane out of bear Bachmeyer, and in what they still couldn't stop them.

They couldn't stop them.

And what's even crazier to me is that this was kind of a shootout, like this was not a shutdown effort on the BYU side, by any stretch of the imagination.

BYU came into this game.

I think as like the twelfth or thirteenth best defense in Bill Connolly's sp plus YU was out gained.

They gave up almost five hundred yards in this one, but they would turnover battle three to ZIP.

One of those was a pick six.

As we said when we previewed this game, BYU doesn't fit neatly into any box.

There's not like one guiding philosophy or identity.

They're sort of all the things all at once, and they can adapt to whatever.

They're extremely adaptable, and that's what I think makes them really hard to game plan for.

They'll just sort of do whatever works, whatever they need to do.

Frankly, there should be more teams around college football that adapt that mentality.

I don't know if all of them will be as good at it as BYU seems to be this year, but they are getting the job done.

To go on the road to win this one in the manner that they did is damn impressive.

They are now eight to zero.

They might crack the top ten.

You know.

I don't know what the rankings are going to show when they release the latest round of AP polling.

But they're right there.

They deserve to be right there.

They're off next week, but two weeks they go to Lubbock, which is gonna be one of those games that we have to do the early preview four on the Tuesday episode, right I mean, that's gonna be the big twelve game of the year right there.

I don't know if they'll be favored by Hunches, No, but I do think they can win.

And if you ask me how I think they could win or what I think they're going to do in order to win, it's a big shrug.

I have no idea, but that's kind of their mo and I think that's kind of what makes them who they are.

So BYU with a damn impressive win here over Iowa State.

I Wowa State was favored in this game at home, by the way, so to go in there to win like they did, to put up all those yards to be outgained, they still have to find a way to do it.

BYU is legit.

They might not go twelve and zero, but uh, eleven and one, ten and two is looking pretty good right about now.

And there are other teams in the Big twelve too that I think rise to the same level for having this conversation about Big Twelve teams.

I mean, it was the same case last year, right there were a bunch of teams, Arizona State being one of them picked last, they end up winning the conference.

We've got a grouping of teams that I think everybody missed to some extent that are playing really, really well.

Texas Tech was obviously in action this week.

They won pretty handily, but it's not just BYU.

What about Cincinnati.

Cincinnati also won going away, and this was also a matchup in which we called out some of their liability on defense, specifically against the past, something that Baylor is known to be pretty good at.

I think we need to have a longer conversation about Cincinnati right now because November Cincinnati is going to get damn spicy.

Like I started poking around with tiebreakers and stuff.

It's probably a little too early, but especially with the news that Houston knocked off Arizona State, It's going to end up being ridiculous, just like it was last year, and Cincinnati is going to have a big part to play.

I like Cincinnati more coming into the year, certainly than in twenty twenty four.

But I didn't expect this, and I don't know many people that did.

Admittedly, I only saw a handful of highlights.

I want to go back and I want to really imbibe this one and take it all in.

But I'll just note that we did mention on our preview despite some of the liability on defense, the fact that Baylor does not play any run defense and Cincinnati rushed it fifty times for two hundred and sixty five yards.

I think that is their default mode.

I think they want to run people into submission if they can, but if they can't.

We should also note that Brendan soaresby their quarterback as a nineteen to one touchdown on the interception.

Ratio, which is pretty good.

So like they have a couple pitches Cincinnati, It's not just all one thing.

They got a couple different ways that they can get You had too many penalties in this game, but still really really solid and maybe a knockout blow for Dave Randa.

I don't know.

I don't know what the status is at Baylor.

I know he's been on the hot seat for the last two years.

But Cincinnati putting up forty one points, holding Baylor down to some extent here not getting killed through the air, that was impressive to me.

I thought that Baylor might throw on him, but they just had two hundred and sixty six yards as a team, turned the ball over twice, there were four of twelve on third downs.

I mean, you could convince me that Baylor is like a five lost team at this point, but they still have an offense.

And I still think it's really impressive what Cincinnati did.

And the other big one here, Honestly, in the Big Twelve, I mentioned it a second ago, and I'm not going to go into too much detail on this one because they didn't watch it and I don't want to be disingenuous, but Houston twenty four to sixteen over Arizona State.

They were up twenty four to zip right away, like they punched him in the mouth.

They did not look back.

This was probably a bit of a letdown spot for Arizona State after the win last week against Texas Tech, where everybody you know stormed the field, but Jordan Tyson was out.

I believe Sam Levitt later on in the game was out as well.

Jeff Simmons did come in for a stretch and actually wasn't that bad, just sort of the surprise of the game.

I give a lot of credit to Willie Fritz and what he's building at Houston.

I talked a lot about it in the preseason.

They were aggressive in the transfer portal, but they were smart in the transfer portal.

They were not going out after the biggest names.

They did get Conor Wigman, which is a big name in and of himself, but otherwise the guys that they went out and got were ones who could come in and contribute either by filling in gaps that they knew they had or by adding depth where they thought they might need it, and we are seeing that pay major dividends.

I don't know what the future holds for Houston at this point, but I think it's another testament to the job that Willy Fritz is doing.

It would not surprise me if Willi Fritz's name came up in accordance with some of these other openings out there.

I don't know if there is any desire for him to leave the Houston, for him to leave Houston.

He just got there.

But Houston completely controlled this game.

In the bit that I saw of it, I got to go back.

I obviously need to brush up on this one a little bit more before I talk super knowledgeably about it.

But what Houston is doing right now under Willy Fritz again, another one of these teams that I think has snuck up on people.

It's hard not to be impressed.

Again.

I don't know if we're going to see a whole lot of change in that pole, but there are always subtle shifts even if there aren't gigantic upsets.

Let's take a look at the acc Virginia wins seventeen to sixteen over unc My lock of the week of the week, don't know what this was.

Virginia won this game by about six inches.

I've got a pen here.

They won by about that much.

So UVA goes.

To overtime against UNC.

They get the ball first, they score a touchdown, they kick the extra point.

UNC that's its turn.

Next they score almost immediately, they go for two, which I thought was the right call.

I know Tony Elliott spoke in the post game and was surprised that they went for two.

I don't know why he'd be surprised that they went for two.

This is a team that was previously and is still winless in the ACC.

What Like, what's the point why I play for the tithe So say what you want about Belichick.

I thought that was the right move.

They didn't get it by about this much, doesn't mean it was the wrong call.

This was not at all an impressive win for Virginia.

I think it goes without saying they were a ten and a half point favorite here.

But a win is a win.

And you know it's crazy, but the Whos are in a position now by virtue of a loss that I'll talk about in a second, where they actually control their own ACC destiny.

Totally wild.

You want to talk about big twelve teams that are kind of fine under the radar and sneaking up on everybody.

We need to have a Virginia conversation because right now, if everything breaks according to projections, we're looking at a Georgia Tech Virginia ACC title game, which some people had Georgia Tech, nobody had Virginia.

I don't care who if you had Virginia.

If you claim you had Virginia, I think you're full of it.

What I'm worried about on the Virginia side is that there are definite hints that they're an LRO team.

LRO is not my term, I guess collectively at this point, it's our term, but LRO stands for luck runs Out.

Virginia's last three wins have come by a combined six points.

There's something to be said for a team that finds ways to win close games, and they are winning close games.

They're three to zero in overtime games so far this year.

And surely there are teams around college football that would kill to be better in close games.

Just ask the Auburn Tigers.

They would love it.

But I'm not fully invested in Virginia at this point.

Great story.

I'm worried that eventually one of these is going to come back to bite them.

Either way, They've got a clear path to nine and three, At a minimum ten and two maybe better.

Talk about an incredible success for Tony Elliott, Chandler Morris.

What they've done here building this program kind of in the offseason has been remarkable.

Talk about another team that deserves the flowers.

North Carolina meanwhile still winless in the ACC, but played a good game all things considered.

Look, UNC is not good.

This is not a good team.

But UNC found a way to hang with what apparently might be one of the better teams of the conference, and they could have won.

And I approve of going for two.

So at least for this week, everybody can get off of Bill Belichick's back.

The game that I mentioned that now springs Virginia loose and allows them to control of their own destiny.

Is this one?

Wake Forest thirteen SMU twelve.

I am saying that with a question mark at the end on purpose.

I just don't get it.

I don't know what is going on with wake Forest, but I do know, and I give us credit for the fact that very early on we called out wake Forest as being a genuine pain in the ass because they are a pain in the ass and they play hard.

There were eight.

Turnovers in this game.

There were two missfield goals, there was a block the extra point, there were seventeen punts.

If Dan we're here right now, I would demand that he do a madic drive chart reading, and if I had the sound on my board, I would do it for myself.

But SMU lost this one on a fifty yard field goal at the gun.

Wake Forest played good defense.

They turned the ball over five times, but they still found a way to win this one.

And they're five and two, by the way, another team you know, sal what you want, even if they finished six and six.

I remember looking at preseason projections that had wake Forest as three and nine, four and eight, five wins.

Jake Dickerd's first year, I know we talked a lot about how the vibes were good, and there was a question of, hey, how far can good vibes take wake Forest?

Well might take them to a bowl, which is pretty damn cool.

Let's talk about the big ten, shall we?

Washington forty two, Illinois twenty five?

What was this?

Not much defense?

Forget about that, But collectively, these teams put on a show.

Offensively a combined eighteen of twenty four on third downs.

The story I thought was Washington's offense.

I watched a fair amount of this game.

There were a bunch going on at the same time, but Washington only had two drives.

They had eight drives in total, but only two of them did not go for touchdowns.

That's how they end up with forty two points.

DeMont Williams was awesome in this game.

Dunzel Boston was awesome.

We got a bunch of Denzel Boston suggestions for our doodle alerts.

I'll throw his name in the ring there when we get to that part of the show.

But three forty six in total yardage for Demond Williams, four touchdowns.

I don't know what to make Washington.

I think I have pretty consistently been higher on Washington than Dan.

But I think I picked Illinois in the run up to this game, and so I think Washington is a bit of a two face.

Sometimes to see your performance like this, other times to see your performance like we saw against Ohio State where they score six points.

No shame in scoring six points against Ohio State.

I think that might be their average.

But Washington right now seems to have found its guy at quarterback.

There are obviously good vibes around that we'll see if Jedfish stays, because there's always a risk that Jedfish is going to leave.

But alas, you gotta like the win if you are a Washington fan, they've got a pretty clear path than nine and three, which would be about a three win improvement over where they were a year ago.

And again another case of Jedfish taking over a program and doing a pretty good job building it into something a little bit better.

Illinois, by the way, has played eight games now I was looking at their schedule, I'd say five of the eight were against teams that I think are pretty good.

Last four games, though, are considerably easier.

So if we're talking about teams that could go nine to three, I think Illinois is one of those teams that could go nine to three.

I think there's a pretty good shot they end up going nine to three as well.

It's still a good team, but they were just not able to get over the hump in this one on the road.

Looks like we had a nice little backdoor cover for Michigan State in the Michigan Michigan State game.

It was a thirty one to twenty final in favor of Michigan, but Sparti did score a late touchdown to cover the fourteen I believe was the closing line.

So if you did go with a little brother here plus the points Mike Hart's words not mine, you came out on top.

Good for them.

We also had this one.

I usually don't play this sound twice, but this one really deserves us who've just got burded.

Iowa absolutely throttled Minnesota.

They throttled them.

They were up thirty one.

I almost said thirty four.

It doesn't matter.

They were up thirty one to zip at halftime.

They ended up winning by thirty eight.

But they only had two hundred and seventy four yards, which is kind of a statistical anomaly.

You expect such things from the Iowa Hawkeyes at this point, but they had a pick six, they had a punt return that contributed.

I guess if you're an Iowa fan, it's a good feeling to put up forty one points in a rivalry game.

You'll take that.

Speaking of teams that could end up with like a nine and three record, I was just there again.

Don't mind them might not win anything.

Of real merit go to a playoff, even contend for a conference, but they'll end up playing in a pretty good bowl game in a warm climate.

Give you somewhere to go in January.

Not bad, not bad.

They are running the crap out of the ball.

Mark Gronowski actually had a decent enough day through the air.

Wasn't exactly like he's putting up crazy numbers, but it was one of the better passing games we've seen out of him, just in terms of raw efficiency.

The only other game that I want to call out is what went down between Memphis and USF.

We previewed this game on the Thursday preview episode, and this is one of those that had real significance, certainly in the American but more broadly speaking in the playoff chase.

Still seems like it might be Boise Spot to lose, but certainly USF has had a really good season.

Memphis did lose to UAB, granted, but that was their only loss and now they come away victorious in this one by a thirty four to thirty one score.

This was a really entertaining game.

I don't know if people had a chance to watch this one again.

There were plenty of games going on at pretty much every window throughout the course of Saturday, but they were over a thousand total yards in this one.

Just as we expected, Memphis was down thirty one to seventeen going into the fourth quarter.

They end up scoring seventeen unanswered points to win this one.

Brendan Lewis threw the game winning touchdown with about a minute left, which resulted in a great quote from him that I found in the game cap.

Quote the defense comma, I don't know what they were thinking.

They left the defensive back one on one on an island, and Tes did what he does.

Tes caught the game winning tenure touchdown pass.

USF did get the ball back, and this is where comedy sort of ensued.

They get the ball back, they drive the field, They get within range of Nico Grammatica for I think a forty two yarder, and rather than try to kick the field goal with about ten seconds left, they try to throw a pass and they get called for holding, which pushes everything back ten yards.

Nico Gramatica goes out there, kind of had a little smirk on his face, looked like he was gonna nail it.

Does not make the fifty two yarder.

Alas, the Memphis Tigers end up with a really big win.

I want to talk more about this one with Dan on Tuesday.

It was truly one of the more entertaining games of the day.

It's gonna be one of those I know he's going to want to go back and listen to, or go back and watch, and then you listen to what I had to say here on the episode, as well as what other people on our discord had to say as well, because this is one of those games that I know people were really anticipating in the run up to week nine.

It did not disappoint, and bigger picture, there will be a question that I think comes into play about influence on that G six playoff spot.

And I don't know if Memphis will be there.

Trash Pile says, I learned that Alabama can win games that last year's team.

Would have lost.

That's a really good.

Point on the Alabama side.

And I have been kicking this around a lot because I think if you are not fully briefed on what Alabama is in twenty twenty five, and if you don't watch the games, the inclination is to go onto the stat sheet and to see what they're doing.

And they very much profile as a one dimensional offense, like it is all on Ty Simpson and it is all on whatever they can do with Jeremy Bernard Ryan Williams as their two playmakers.

But we saw it in this game, especially with the way that they use Daniel Hill right, he's running back, but they're using him out of the backfield.

Like ty Simpson is getting better.

It is clear that Caitlin de Boor and Ryan Grubb are very confident in his abilities out there, and certainly Alabama is able to put up points.

Alabama is able to come back and win a game like they want today in a tough road spot against South Carolina.

Say what you want about South Carolina and where they're at, but they've got a pretty good defensive front and ty Simpson was very comfortable back there, able to navigate efficiently.

So whatever they are doing, even if it does not fit into any kind of balanced offensive box, Alabama.

Yeah.

Alabama is I think learning us all week in and week out.

Thomas says.

I learned that Brian Kelly will be coaching in the Big Ten next year.

Will he Willy?

I don't know about that.

Man.

If you are Brian Kelly, obviously, James Franklin's already there.

If you are any of these guys who are currently coaching at higher level places, I gotta believe that you will be in the hunt for some of these openings.

If you are no longer in your current spot.

There are teams out there that would want Brian Kelly.

I sure as hell hope it's not Penn State.

Penn State's coming from this position now with Franklin, where they could win the big game.

That's essentially why they got rid of him.

And I know they talk about vibes and trajectory the program.

I think there's some merit there, but gosh, Brian Kelly went out and they did everything they needed to do this offseason at LSU to make that team better.

Still can't block.

The offense is worse.

The defense got skewed today against what apparently is a much better offense than any of us thought possible.

I just don't know what the case is for Brian Kelly at one of those national championship tier institutions that at least are coming from the position of we need to win the big game.

Somebody would hire him.

For sure.

He's still a good coach, But speaking as a Penn Stater, I hope it's not Penn State.

What I learned is that BYU is fun and feisty.

They are, and I've been learning that week in and week out.

I have heard from a lot of BYU people out there.

We get comments from BYU folks that listen to the show, many of whom are very passionate about the Cougars, and the overwhelming sentiment has been, you guys aren't talking enough about BYU.

No one's talking enough about BYU, but you guys on the show especially aren't talking a whole lot about YU.

By didn't really play anybody first couple weeks of the year, and so I think what they are now was sort of masked up until very recently.

But perhaps that bit of a run up that they had was also what they needed to give bear Bachmeyer the experience to get him comfortable, to put him in a position like we saw today where he went off and was essentially the entire offense.

Again, I reiterate what I said earlier.

They are not treating him his liability and to have a true freshman out there that actively is part of the game plan and you are utilizing his skill sets and you're not afraid to let him be what he is.

That is a rarity.

You just do not see that much around college.

But it's not impossible it happens all the time, but it is certainly not something that happens more than fifty percent of the cases, especially with the true freshman.

The whole situation at BYU this year at quarterback has been a one off, to say the least.

It has been unexpected, and the success I think that they're having with bear Bachmeyer has been unexpected as well.

But again, this has been a great campaign and Kalanie Sataki has proven time and again that he's a good coach.

He knows how to navigate these situations.

He's done it in the past and he'll do it in the future.

So I am damn impressed with BYU, says I learned that Lane Kiffin is getting better as a head coach.

It could win the SEC.

I think they could win the SEC.

I believe that.

I don't know if there is any perfect team in the SEC.

The closest to that is probably Texas A and M right now with the way that they're playing, But everybody else kind of has a flaw.

Everybody else has looked beatable at some points.

Even A and M has looked beatable.

A and M hasn't blown doors off everybody they did at LSU tonight, but there have been some close games.

The Auburn game was a little bit weird.

The Notre Dame game out of conference, mind you, but Notre Dame game was a one point affair earlier in the year.

They got into a battle a week ago against Arkansas.

Right, They're not perfect, but All Miss is very interesting because they're getting really solid quarterback play out of Trinidad Chambliss.

They're really interesting because I thought their defense stepped up in a really significant way.

I think.

Some of the parts is really intriguing.

On the Old Miss side, I think it's just working better for Lane Kiffin this year for whatever reason.

You know, he's still making some weird decisions and he's still trying to be hyper aggressive and do what he's kind of always done.

It's just working better.

And I think the field in the SEC is conducive to a bit of a wild card.

By the way, Ole Miss, as I'm talking through here with teams in the Big twelve and the ACC even the Big Ten to some extent, teams that have flown under the radar, teams that maybe we looked at the preseason and weren't sure what to expect, and expect a whole lot of them.

Ole Miss is right there.

We looked at Old Miss's schedule, and we said, all right, schedule looks good, but they lose a lot to lose.

Jackson Dark Jacks start was the first round pick.

There was a lot new coming in this year, and so I think at least on that front, on that front, to assemble the pieces very quickly to have the stones to make the move to Trinidad.

Chambliss after he got on a bit of a heater early.

All of that reflects I think a really really good coach and it's understandable why he would be the top target at Florida.

We'll see if he decides he wants to take that gig or not.

But in the meantime, he's got a lot to play for this season at all, miss.

I learned that Indiana, Navy, Cincinnati, Virginia.

It's like you're seventeen of an NCAA fourteen dynasty.

Indiana's looked really good.

We know this much.

Navy is having a good year.

Cincinnati and Virginia we talked through, this is what makes college football great.

This is why we like college football because teams like this, especially in this day and age, are finding ways to eat at the big table.

And that's a lot of fun.

I don't know how long it's sustained, but it's a lot of fun.

What I do know is that they beat the crap out of Minnesota.

They do a great job covering the Missouri Tigers this week.

As you might expect, with the carousel spinning in the manner that it has, they posted something talking about the chances of Eli drink Wits leaving to take.

Another job, including the one up at Penn State.

While geographic fit isn't as important as it used to be, culturally, drink Wits and the wine and cheese crowd of Pennsylvania might not be the easiest.

As you might expect, this one made the rounds a little bit within the Penn State community, certainly among the penn Stators that I know, and the universal response was wait, wine and cheese?

Really?

I don't blame.

Anyone for not understanding this state.

Okay, this is one of the weirdest states in the Union.

We are bookended by big cities and steel plants and coal mines, and in between we've got a state Capital, State Game Lands, and obviously State College.

The Penn State crowd is a combination of Eagles fans and Steelers fans, with the side of the Jersey Shore maybe a dash of New York City.

Most of us here in this community are from places you've never heard of, right, I'm taught like Wallnaport nescapec mechanics Burg.

My high school mascot quite literally was inspired by the factory that made all the cement in the Panama Canal.

So this is a different place with a different kind of mentality than I think was portrayed here.

If we are fancy, it is like the most blue collar version of fancy.

That's why the uniforms are still that boring blue and white.

That's why you got people chug and yingling in random fields outside the stadium before all the games.

And why in college our wine nights consisted of a guy who found a case of boons farm.

I am not sure where Eli Drinkwitz stands on cheap booze, but I know that his story was hashed in rural Arkansas.

I know he grew up in a town known for a spinach factory.

I believe I know he had a big family that was struggling to make ends meet, that he cut grass to help make money, and that his career has taken him from the southern tip of Appalachia to the northern part right now of the Ozarks.

Other than being a family man and a really good coach, he's a button pusher who knows how to ruffle some feathers.

So frankly, Missouri fans and whoever wrote this, he sounds a lot like one of us, and I'm happy to remind everybody of that time and again until a couple months from now when Penn State eventually hires Matt Rule.
