[SPEAKER_01]: Hello!
[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to M&P TV NFL podcast and I'm Conor and we have a special guest today because Albert's out in the training camp or he got lost somewhere I think probably like a flight transfer issue and you know him he's a wander he sees a good restaurant that he likes he sees a Hudson news stand and just starts reading books and then he misses flights and then we don't know where he ends up so I had to call my buddy Tyler done [SPEAKER_01]: My friend from college, the great proprietor of go-long, Tyler, what's happening my man?
[SPEAKER_00]: What's up Connor?
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, man.
[SPEAKER_00]: Should we just like talk smack about Breyer for an hour?
[SPEAKER_00]: Cause he's not here.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's probably with you.
[SPEAKER_00]: But no, in all honesty, this time of year makes me think of such amazing, I guess wisdom advice.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even know what you'd call it from Albert Breyer once upon a time before I had any children.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he had his children.
[SPEAKER_00]: He said Tyler in the future, you're going to look forward to your training camp tours because [SPEAKER_00]: You're going to be in a car.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be quiet.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to be alone with your thoughts.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, you're not even going to put on the radio or listen to a podcast none of that.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're just going to enjoy the silence and yeah, you know, honestly, I'm not doing a training camp tour this year.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm kind of working on a bigger project.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not able to take advantage of that world in which Albert Brewer laid out for me now that I have three children.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm sure Albert's enjoying life right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure Albert is enjoying life.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm also taking on a bigger project as you have and kind of miss part of my training came toward that is like you said bringing a baby into the world.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they tend to take up some time and energy.
[SPEAKER_01]: But it's perfect to do the pod.
[SPEAKER_01]: And why I wanted you on the show in particular Tyler is I think that you are absolutely ideal for this segment that I've cooked up called call and BS.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know anybody else in my life in the NFL world that cuts through the clutter like Tyler and you should go to go long because it's not just, you know, flowery journalism, we're all fine right this about this guy, then maybe he'll [SPEAKER_01]: do something nice for me on the other end of the thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, no, this is the truth.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's truly independent.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's truly a reader service.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're not subscribed to it, I highly suggest you should be.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know I get go along in my inbox every morning.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's one of my first things I do after I make the kids avocado toast.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're avocado toast kids.
[SPEAKER_01]: How sad is that right now?
[SPEAKER_01]: That's like the state of life right here, right here.
[SPEAKER_00]: At least it's not avocado ice cream, like Tom Brady.
[SPEAKER_01]: Avocado toast is okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
[SPEAKER_01]: And what were you thoughts by the way very quickly on the Tom Brady statue?
[SPEAKER_01]: Did you see it unveiled?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's seventeen feet tall.
[SPEAKER_01]: I just didn't know what what were your instant reaction to the Tom Brady statue.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's funny.
[SPEAKER_00]: So many of these statues are just hot garbage.
[SPEAKER_00]: I assume it was going to be terrible.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, here in West New York, I live a grew up probably like twenty thirty minutes from James Town, New York, and that's where the infamous Lucille Ball statue was erected.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, like a decade ago, and it was just [SPEAKER_00]: brutal.
[SPEAKER_00]: They had to redo it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like they have to redo a lot of these statues.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I didn't look at it up close the Tom Brady one.
[SPEAKER_00]: All I did was catch the memes after the fact of the Eli Manning one that was erected the tower to over Tom Brady and that made me chuckle Holy shit.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking up blue seal ball statue right now.
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I'll have so bad.
[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I'll have producer Shelby fly this up and post and you can see it on YouTube.
[SPEAKER_01]: If not Google it, it is absolutely horrifying.
[SPEAKER_01]: So for audio listeners, you know, they fixed it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the one on the right looks like I love Lucy.
[SPEAKER_01]: The one on the left looks like [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it looks like if the if the if sunny from a Bronx tail like kicked in a bar door after like a day full of drinking that's exactly what it looks like holy god almighty Yeah, rough.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's it's nightmare fuel really I'm not going to look it up.
[SPEAKER_01]: I give you credit for Google in and I can't look at it ever again If I show that to my kids before bed, they'd be awake all night.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh absolutely.
[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely [SPEAKER_01]: All right, so here's the rules here, Tyler.
[SPEAKER_01]: I am going to bring up a percolating preseason storyline and I'm going to give you the option and I will also take the option to say yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is absolutely what's going on.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is true or I'm calling BS and the first one.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, everybody's been talking about this.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was [SPEAKER_01]: I was so...
[SPEAKER_01]: unwilling to believe that this was actually going to happen, but I walked up to my house, a kids were at the playground and I said, you know what, Daddy's got to sit down and watch Shedur Sanders.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought, okay, I'll be out of here and I'll be out of here in eleven minutes, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, because I was going to write about it, I said, he's going to have two series, you know, he's the fifth string quarterback of the Browns.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to have two series, the fanski's going to yank him, and then this is going to be the new Pontley show.
[SPEAKER_01]: Daddy's going to be back down at playground in no time.
[SPEAKER_01]: And hour and a half later, I'm sitting there completely mesmerized.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this kid cooked the daylights out of the Carolina Panthers, which leads us to this, I don't know, this weird place where, and even I'm there, I was crushing people.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like Portoni Grossy, why love?
[SPEAKER_01]: Asking Shader Sanders about first, first team QB reps.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, what?
[SPEAKER_01]: First team QB reps.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now I'm on the complete other side of this, where I'm like, is this guy gonna start maybe not the season opener?
[SPEAKER_01]: But like, by week four or five or six, Tyler will put it to you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Are you calling BS that Shader Sanders is a starting NFL quarterback?
[SPEAKER_00]: I am not going to call BS.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's week one.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's September.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think in a dream scenario, the Cleveland Brown Structure Door Sanders, you know, when the season is lost, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: Like three, four games to go, but I don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's not a perfect comparison, but we're kind of reaching Tim Teebo levels of [SPEAKER_00]: you know, banana here.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not, it's not a circus, but there is a real buzz around Shidorah Sanders.
[SPEAKER_00]: People gravitate toward him.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, to see number twelve brown jerseys at a Carolina Panthers game on the road in a preseason game is kind of absurd.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like he's my point being like the fan push to start Shidorah Sanders.
[SPEAKER_00]: It might kind of flirt with Tibo levels that we saw early on there in twenty eleven where [SPEAKER_00]: and they're not going to give into public pressure, but this is a Cleveland Browns team that they got to kind of make nice with their fan base to an extent.
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't they, Connor?
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, it's been kind of rough there for the Browns through the Dishon Watson trade and pissing off the people that you need to fill your current stadium and maybe a future stadium.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this would be kind of chumming the water.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, here you go.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's place Chador, that's what you guys want.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then to got to play a part to some extent here.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think so too, and you bring up a great point because initially my reaction and after the game, he went up to Tony Grossy and he put his arm around him and he was saying, oh, you never say anything nice about me, never say anything nice about me.
[SPEAKER_01]: And in my head, I'm thinking, you just killed all the goodwill that you built up over the course of this start, but as you say that, [SPEAKER_01]: My mind is changing because you're right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Dishon wants him so unapproachable.
[SPEAKER_01]: He was so hard to root for.
[SPEAKER_01]: And like it or not, Shidorah Sanders has a charisma that could carry a team through a season.
[SPEAKER_01]: Deon Sanders is one of those guys that is incapable of being embarrassed.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think Shidorah is similar in that way.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're that browns, like you just gotta get through twenty twenty five.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's one of those days like when your kids are up all night, like I just gotta make it to ten o'clock.
[SPEAKER_01]: They gotta get through twenty twenty five while this roster turns over and make sure that the important parts kind of stay around.
[SPEAKER_01]: And part of me thinking like this guy might legitimately have what it takes.
[SPEAKER_01]: to at least get them through a season.
[SPEAKER_01]: And if he's the future great, if it was a fun year where he just makes us forget about all of our problems for a little while, that's worth a fifth round pick, is it not?
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's where I'm at, too, because the red flags are very real with Stor Sanders.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you're talking to coaches more than myself.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I was talking to one who sat in on one of those combat interviews.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you've got the formal interviews and then you've got the train station that's informal.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he said it was awful.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like they're talking to Stor Sanders.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's not paying attention.
[SPEAKER_00]: The quarterbacks coach, he's just asking questions, trying to engage him and, you know, people are walking by and he's dapping people up and he's just, [SPEAKER_00]: You know, he doesn't think this team is going to draft him.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he doesn't care at that point.
[SPEAKER_00]: He thinks he's top ten pick and no way this team's going to draft me.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like that stuff is real.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like the clashing with Brian Dable and the New York Giants interviews.
[SPEAKER_00]: That stuff is real and could it manifest to the field when you have to work?
[SPEAKER_00]: You have to put in hours away from the facility.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what you're going to get out of Shudor Sanders in terms of being a pro all of that.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll say this though, like there are some people who I really respect when it comes to grading the quarterback position and analyzing it.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, one of them that comes to mind David Yost, he coached Jordan love Justin Herbert, Chase Daniel, Brad Smith, you know, a ton of those Missouri guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's still coaching and college football too.
[SPEAKER_00]: Very critical eye at quarterback.
[SPEAKER_00]: He loves him.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he said that this really is so unbelievably accurate.
[SPEAKER_00]: It had a bad line and a bad defense and just found a way to make it work win games and survive down to down in lead, you know, they're scoring thirty points a game thirty forty points a game he [SPEAKER_00]: I don't, look, there's limitations physically.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a reason you didn't run a fortie, like me or you might get my run for as money in our prime.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not even exaggerating.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think Scott's got he'd run like a four eight or a four nine.
[SPEAKER_00]: That stuff is real too.
[SPEAKER_00]: But there's something about a man like he has done it at every level.
[SPEAKER_00]: People gravitate toward him and if you're the Cleveland Browns and you want to be somewhat fun this year when you maybe have been the least fun team the last few years.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it happens.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know when.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think they'd like to push it off as far as they can.
[SPEAKER_00]: They don't want to rush them out there.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I think it's inevitable that should or Sanders is to clean and brown starter this season.
[SPEAKER_01]: Listen to the names of the two leading-wide receivers that Shidorah Sanders had against the Panthers.
[SPEAKER_01]: In addition to not having any of his starting interior offensive line, here's his two leading-wide receivers.
[SPEAKER_01]: Someone named Sal Canella and someone named Luke Florey, who's not on the roster anymore.
[SPEAKER_01]: It sounds like two bodyguards for the Gambino crime family that were just out there catching passes.
[SPEAKER_00]: But what do you havevel tight-end, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: Sal Canella.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think he was a solid UFO tight-end.
[SPEAKER_01]: But here's what's kind of knowing at me and I love that you brought up the flip side of this, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Was that, so we go on this roller coaster and I think that's why it's important to do segments like this where I was convinced that Chador was not a good NFL quarterback and that's based on [SPEAKER_01]: everything that I, all the people that I'd talk to and even going back to December into January, I had people like trusted that evaluate the position they're like Jackson Darts gonna go before him.
[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I started writing that, everyone's like, oh my God, my, my, my, my, my, right.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so when that happens, you kind of dig in to your point of view, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: And I doubled down and you triple down and then you feel right when the rest of the NFL kind of goes along with it and they don't take them.
[SPEAKER_01]: But then something like this happens and then you're left with two choices it's like do you do you open your mind to the possibility that he might actually be good or is this Tyler the Carolina Panthers defense is it a preseason game and are a lot of the things that people said about him in the past.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's already maxed out physically, like he's not going to grow.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's no ceiling.
[SPEAKER_01]: When the pocket breaks down, he's a little bit of a disaster.
[SPEAKER_01]: He tends to drift and float, which we saw in that preseason game, but it didn't come back to bite him.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, is this the case where now we can go down one of two roads where it's like you believe, okay?
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in or I still might stand on my evaluation here, and I'm not going to let one preseason game send me into a positivity spiral.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know, I'm right there with you.
[SPEAKER_00]: One hundred percent Connor because it's you think of the preseason and I want to just market and meme it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to watch it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, I mean, power to you, Connor, for watching that game.
[SPEAKER_00]: I, my brother is getting married.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're at a stack in Rochester.
[SPEAKER_00]: It, Charles, was a gathering concert.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not watching this game, but even then to, to the, to the shouldor effect, I'm pulling out the phone.
[SPEAKER_00]: I, I want to see how he did.
[SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't wait to pull up the highlights.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, well, we crafted you.
[SPEAKER_00]: Look at this.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think there is something to it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's, you know, I'm thinking back to, it was a twenty twelve when the Seattle Seahawks, they signed Matt Flynn.
[SPEAKER_00]: And hell, I covered those packer seams in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
[SPEAKER_00]: That last game against the Lions was electric, Matt Flynn through six touchdowns.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_00]: Guys, give me the starter.
[SPEAKER_00]: They signed them, but what do they do also?
[SPEAKER_00]: They drafted Russell Wilson.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, through the spring, Russell Wilson was the one showing up.
[SPEAKER_00]: first in the building last to leave met Flynn was just kind of being there when he had to be there.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so you wonder, okay, is there something going on here?
[SPEAKER_00]: maybe this fourth round third round pick is could be a starter and then you get into the games I think Flynn was okay but Russell Wilson looked really good and they pulled the trigger the name Russell Wilson the starter.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean you know you go back to Aaron Rogers his first three years he had some rough preseason moments but to your point we tend to forget yeah these guys are going against second-third stringers but Aaron made the point to me once like [SPEAKER_00]: playing with second, third, stringers, too.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[SPEAKER_00]: It goes both ways.
[SPEAKER_00]: So with a little more talent, what could Shidorah look like?
[SPEAKER_00]: I think.
[SPEAKER_00]: He added all up and he at least warrants a shot and real substantive football games.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just a perfect time for the Cleveland Browns.
[SPEAKER_00]: You don't really have your franchise quarterback in house that you're tethered to from a football from a financial sense.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's up the payout of Watson.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that this is like a perfect trial and error kind of season.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you're the Browns, you got a really good theory.
[SPEAKER_00]: Studs.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, name a better edged rusher corner back duo.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Miles Garrett and Denso Ward.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know the Jenkins stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: That really throws a wrench into their plans.
[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like they really wanted to drag teams into a dark alley this year.
[SPEAKER_00]: Try to beat the hell out of you when thirteen to ten.
[SPEAKER_00]: He was going to be a big part of that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Who knows where the Cleveland Browns go offence of that, you know, that running back in house if he's not there, which it's looking like.
[SPEAKER_00]: But anyways, it's a perfect, it's a perfect year to place your door Sanders to do the Cleveland Browns.
[SPEAKER_00]: Why the hell not?
[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, at least, let's see him in a couple games.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, let's not start Joe Flacco for fifteen games.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I love Joe, but I think we saw his limitations when that Texans play off game where that team just pinned their ears back and just blitz him into oblivion.
[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, you know, God bless him.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think we would all want to feel this much purpose, you know, when we're nearing our age forty, but it's one of those things where he just can't move.
[SPEAKER_01]: like that anymore, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: You just can't evade and he's a little bit of a sitting duck back there.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's my favorite time of year.
[SPEAKER_01]: The NFL season is almost here in fantasy football season is in full swing.
[SPEAKER_01]: This season Yahoo Fantasy is taking it up a notch and giving you a fantasy football experience like never before.
[SPEAKER_01]: This year, the MMQB is playing on Yahoo Fantasy and you should too, whether you're a first timer or a veteran making your millionth league, guys from me anytime that I go to open up a new league with friends anytime that I'm playing on Sunday.
[SPEAKER_01]: I am on Yahoo Fantasy.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's got all the best updates, it's got the fastest notifications for when you get a touchdown, when you get a score, it's the absolute best.
[SPEAKER_01]: And to celebrate twenty-eight years of fantasy football greatness, Yahoo Fantasy is dropping twenty-eight big new features over twenty-eight days throughout August.
[SPEAKER_01]: To kick it off, they just dropped Yahoo Fantasy guillotine leaks.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hillary new way, to play fantasy football on Yahoo, where the lowest scoring team gets eliminated each week until there's only one left standing.
[SPEAKER_01]: And with the season around the corner, now's the time to get your league together and give this new mode to try.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're more into the classics, you can still play ahead to head private leagues or join a public league.
[SPEAKER_01]: Stay tuned for more killer announcements and start playing Yahoo Fantasy football now at YahooFansy.com slash mmqb.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's YahooFansy.com slash mmqb.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, Tyler, the next one I want to get into here Matt Stafford.
[SPEAKER_01]: Thrames roll this recovery device thing up to the facility yesterday, we're recording this on Tuesday morning and it promises all sorts of red light therapy and calming therapy and everything that's going to help this back.
[SPEAKER_01]: you and I both had wives that just had kids.
[SPEAKER_01]: When you hear the word epidural, it seems kind of intense, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, there's a, like a conversation about that.
[SPEAKER_01]: You see the size of that needle that they bring into the hospital room.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the official line right now is Matt's efforts fine and he's going to be okay for week one.
[SPEAKER_01]: Are you calling BS on that?
[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely calling BS on that because what is what what Sean McVey Matthew Stafford and the L.A.
[SPEAKER_00]: Rams are going to do like go full will Ferrell Panic everybody panic just pretty no free go like they're not going to do that they have to say that everything is fine, but you you read between the lines enough in and profile ball and you can kind of see some concern from time to time.
[SPEAKER_00]: It does seem like the messaging has changed a little bit.
[SPEAKER_00]: It went from [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's right on track for week one two going to take a day to day.
[SPEAKER_00]: And does going to take a day to day become going to take it week to week.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's an older quarterback.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, you Connor, I heard the word epidural and I immediately am thinking of, you know, oh, shot children's hospital with my wife and the kids and holy shit that was not fun for all parties involved.
[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, I would imagine there's some real concern internally with the Rams.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's old.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's getting up there in age.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's really freaking good.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's one of the best quarterbacks in football, but this stuff's inevitable.
[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, I say this and then he'll just go out and throw up for four hundred yards and three touchdowns week one and wall of like fools.
[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder if it's one of those things where it's just, it's like a bad back, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Where it's going to be fine sometimes.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you and I are in our late thirties.
[SPEAKER_01]: I get it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there are days when I sneeze and then I can't move.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then there are days when I feel like I could run a triathlon.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm guessing that maybe that's going to be the vibe for Stafford, but what I noticed too along those lines, speaking of like changing of messaging, it's just like, you know, now all of a sudden it's like, wow, we love Jimmy Garoppolo.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Jimmy's our guy, you know, and we wanted to keep Jimmy here, and then there was, oh, did you see how good stats and Bennett looked in the preseason?
[SPEAKER_01]: That's in Bennett was slinging it.
[SPEAKER_01]: We love stats and Bennett.
[SPEAKER_01]: So when you start, I think, [SPEAKER_01]: praising the backups, talking about the backups.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's when you get yourself into a real hot water mess because that's when I feel like we're getting to the point where, okay, this guy's gonna miss some games.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think we might be heading that direction.
[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe by the time people are listening to this, there's a little more clarity.
[SPEAKER_00]: We kind of know where this mystery injury with all of these different tools and mechanisms and hyper bear this and that where it's going, but I just feel like it's not going to help the direction.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know where my mind went, Connor is back in February when the New York Giants and some of these teams were flirting with the idea of throwing the kitchen sink at Matthew Stafford.
[SPEAKER_00]: Can you imagine if one of these teams ended up getting Stafford and all this stuff came out right now in New York?
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, it would be brutal.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you go all in on the guy and then all of a sudden he wakes up and I slipped a disc and all of a sudden like the Rams have Aaron Rogers and everyone's like, What's happening here?
[SPEAKER_01]: I do think about Aaron though.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is interesting right that Rogers that was one of his preferred destinations.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think Sean McVay probably wanted him to if they got rid of Matt Stafford got how different the NFL would be and I wonder how different we would be thinking of Rogers's prospects this year if he ended up with the LA Rams instead of Pittsburgh [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, I do everything every year where I predict all two hundred and seventy two games because it's the only way Tyler to predict the season.
[SPEAKER_01]: You have to predict every game and I still have the Steelers at nine and eight spoiler alert.
[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't matter if Aaron Rodgers is there or not.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think this is a nine and eight football team.
[SPEAKER_01]: But would you have taken the Rams a little bit more seriously or less seriously if you had Aaron Rodgers under center and do you think that do you think that McVay is someone that Rodgers would [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, to take his expertise as he's so, you times does with other NFL headquarters.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that would be a one way track to those two individuals.
[SPEAKER_00]: Col Ashley, in spectacular fashion.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, I'm reading Michael Silver's book right now.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the Y is everything and the McVay and Shanna Han on the floor, McDaniel and how their minds work.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think they would go a healthy direction if Aaron Rogers is the quarterback and also he's let's see when he can't even do physically.
[SPEAKER_00]: And speaking of old quarterbacks, we can't move like he wants moved.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I can't get the images out of my mind of how he looked here in Orchard Park, New York late last season.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he looked.
[SPEAKER_00]: kind of disinterested and slow and just chilling on the sideline, laughing about his personal file penalty, not really engaged.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I imagine it'll be engaged early on with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm in Mike Tom on our probably in a dark room somewhere, talking about sticking it to all the haters.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they've got every reason to have the season of their lives.
[SPEAKER_00]: My Tom on is the coach.
[SPEAKER_00]: You can't want to play up game and as forever, uh, nine and eight, eight, nine, you know, I'm sorry, nine and eight for no losing season.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Aaron Rogers hasn't really been good in three years, but then a kill history thrown in there.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't know, I just I think father time is undefeated to site of Tom Brady.
[SPEAKER_00]: And even in so many words, Aaron Rogers has admitted that.
[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, if he was with the L.
E.
Rams, even with Pook and the Kua, even with Sean McVay.
[SPEAKER_00]: Devante Adams, even with all of we just saw with Devante Adams, they forced the jets to make a move form.
[SPEAKER_00]: I got Robert Salafire to kind of got everything you wanted and it still was disaster.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that the Rams would be kind of talking themselves into Santa Claus at that point.
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to get to Rogers in a second, but to put a bow on this, week one is September seventh for the Rams at one twenty five Pacific.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to play the Houston Texans.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're Sean McVay, do you feel responsible putting Matt Stafford against a Texans defense that is lean nasty?
[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen what they're capable of when they can get after a quarterback.
[SPEAKER_01]: do you put Matt Stafford out there?
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, if you had to make the decision now, if you had to hand in your, your note card and say, here's my opening day line up and it's set and stone, do you put Matt Stafford on that note card?
[SPEAKER_00]: I'd say no.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that would be, right, kind of the conservative long play for a coaching team that's thinking suitable.
[SPEAKER_00]: But they gave the Eagles a hell of a game in the snow.
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they're the team that was best equipped to defeat the Juggernaut Philadelphia Eagles last year.
[SPEAKER_00]: So if that's all they're thinking right now, Supervolar Puss, you're thinking that way.
[SPEAKER_00]: And there's any concern.
[SPEAKER_00]: And look at there looking at scans and stuff that we're not privy to.
[SPEAKER_00]: Why would you put it out there against Will Anderson?
[SPEAKER_00]: And Daniel Hunter.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that Texan's defense that Texan's defense is really, really good.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they get after the quarterback.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I say all that to say, like you're breaking down the Texans.
[SPEAKER_00]: And remember last year, Josh Allen got knocked around and suffered an obvious rain injury, concussion.
[SPEAKER_00]: I forget how it was worded out was, yeah, publicized at that time.
[SPEAKER_00]: He was out of it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And yet, he played the very next week against the jets.
[SPEAKER_00]: Remember talking to Chris Nguyenski that week, you know, he's out there at Boston University at the forefront of all things concussions and NFL players and quarterbacks and and why it's so important to just take a week or two or three off before you return.
[SPEAKER_00]: We saw it with Tula.
[SPEAKER_00]: The stories are just so grim.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, ask Kevin Cobb what it's like the suffer three four concussions.
[SPEAKER_00]: It gets worse and worse and worse and worse and worse.
[SPEAKER_00]: But he was out there.
[SPEAKER_00]: He played.
[SPEAKER_00]: He was fine.
[SPEAKER_00]: They won the game.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he never looked back.
[SPEAKER_00]: So throw football as a hell of a drug.
[SPEAKER_00]: Mick Bay and Staff are my sit there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Look at each other and say, we got to beat this team.
[SPEAKER_00]: We got to win this game.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you feel good to go, get out there.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have to tell you about this game-changing product I used before a night out with drinks.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's called pre-alcohol.
[SPEAKER_01]: Zbiotics pre-alcohol probiotic drink is the world's first genetically engineered probiotic.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was invented by PhD scientists to tackle rough mornings after drinking.
[SPEAKER_01]: Here's how it works.
[SPEAKER_01]: When you drink, alcohol gets converted into a toxic byproduct in the gut.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a buildup of this byproduct, not dehydration that's the blame for rough days after drinking.
[SPEAKER_01]: Pre-alcohol produces an enzyme to break this byproduct down.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just remember to make pre-alcohol your first drink of the night, drink responsibly, and you'll feel your best tomorrow.
[SPEAKER_01]: Guys, I brought this down to our summer fest handed out to all my friends and [SPEAKER_01]: everyone was just at the top of their game all week no matter how much fun they were trying to have at the beer tent going out and getting drinks or whatever everyone was looking great and feeling great so believe me it's it's it's the real deal the final days of summer are here for you to enjoy whether you're headed to the beach camping and the woods are squeezing out one last vacation road trip don't forget to bring biotics pre alcohol probiotic drink [SPEAKER_01]: Drink a pre-alcohol before drinking and enjoy every day of summer to the fullest.
[SPEAKER_01]: Go to biotics.com slash MMQB to learn more and get fifteen percent off your first order when you use MMQB at checkout.
[SPEAKER_01]: Zbiotics is backed with one hundred percent money back guarantee.
[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're unsatisfied for any reason, they'll refund your money.
[SPEAKER_01]: No questions asked.
[SPEAKER_01]: Remember to head to biotics.com slash MMQB [SPEAKER_01]: use that code mmqb at checkout for fifteen percent off your order.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I do you know it's not a podcast that we do together Tyler if I don't if I don't bring up your your old buddy Aaron Rogers in it's just I still am fascinated by him and probably shouldn't be it's one of those things where [SPEAKER_01]: he kind of came of age around the same time that we did and he's a little bit older than we are but was one of the first true superstar quarterbacks of our generation of when when we were really invested in high school in college [SPEAKER_01]: and then early on in our career like when I start covering the NFL in twenty ten twenty eleven I mean he's already this model with you know figure and it's like wow it's like mystical like Aaron Rogers what's going to happen and so I always kind of reserve that little place in my mind where it's like I think that this can happen and I think that it's going to be good again [SPEAKER_01]: But then, you know, everything just starts happening the way that it normally does.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like Aaron Rogers reportedly offered to play in the preseason.
[SPEAKER_01]: But Mike Tomlin said, no, he's throwing picks and he's saying in practice to DK Metcalf.
[SPEAKER_01]: And he's saying, that's what practice is for.
[SPEAKER_01]: I throw my intersections in practice.
[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, you start to get back into this, like, [SPEAKER_01]: sort of Rogers vortex where he's got his little lines and he's got his his responses to things.
[SPEAKER_01]: And now I'm starting to think because in Pittsburgh everything's great and it usually always is great with Rogers for a couple weeks until it's not great.
[SPEAKER_01]: Are you, are you believing the idea that it's his last ride?
[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to go out a different guy or are you calling BS and you're going to say by the trade deadline.
[SPEAKER_01]: Rogers is complaining about his receivers behind everybody's back.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's complaining about the offensive coordinator.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's complaining about the run game.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's [SPEAKER_01]: complaining about everything else, the way that my Tomlin wakes them up too early in the morning or the flights aren't the times that he wants it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, do you think we're going to end with the full Aaron Rogers experience?
[SPEAKER_01]: Or do you think because like a lot of people say it's his last ride, he's going to try to finish with a little bit more of a flourish.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's that latter.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's the BS because we've seen it and it's not going to be he's smart, right Connor?
[SPEAKER_00]: Like this is somebody who doesn't have the foundation that most people have in their lives.
[SPEAKER_00]: right Aaron Rogers, it caught off his family, completely.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's whole strength.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not like he's got that support system.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think back to, I think let's meet a kinds of a story shortly after one of the ones I did at Bleacher Poor on Aaron Rogers and his relationship with religion.
[SPEAKER_00]: Doesn't really have one religion that he's kind of rooted in, which that's kind of a foundation for a lot of people in their lives too.
[SPEAKER_00]: When matters deeply to him, [SPEAKER_00]: And this isn't really an opinion.
[SPEAKER_00]: We see it is the narrative and what people are saying about him.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like he cares deeply.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think back to, I mean, you're out there.
[SPEAKER_00]: You were on the Giant Speed when I was on the Packers beat and think of all the crap that he like Manning had the deal with.
[SPEAKER_00]: Justifiable, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: Like he's losing big games and he's on that back page of the tab void every week and just getting skewered and he didn't give a damn.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think most quarterbacks, they genuinely don't [SPEAKER_00]: give a damn like they they're I'm such stature and they know what's important and they don't allow that stuff he he Aaron Rogers uses it and and it's to his detriment but also he uses it for positive for fuel like he will create enemies that are real and perceived and prove those enemies wrong he's he's done that throughout his career and I just think [SPEAKER_00]: It was working and he was able to prove those enemies wrong when he was able to move like he once moved.
[SPEAKER_00]: When he had those tens of thousands of baked in reps with a Randall Cobb and a Devante Adams and a Jordan Ellison in, got go back to Donald Driver.
[SPEAKER_00]: He had him at the end.
[SPEAKER_00]: Greg Jennings.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like when you've got that experience with these receivers, you go up to the line of Scrimmage at Lambo field, you could just see it happening.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they don't signal a thing, they don't audible a thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: But image or you know, since you see the same exact coverage, same exact weakness, and they attack it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like that is here around just that is best.
[SPEAKER_00]: Free runner, he knows that free runners coming, makes them miss, makes them play, and the Packers are just running away from teams in the regular season.
[SPEAKER_00]: That player is long gone.
[SPEAKER_00]: That player is extinct.
[SPEAKER_00]: He cannot think about doing that.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I do think you're a bunch of the spark off to realize, okay, I'm not that guy anymore.
[SPEAKER_00]: I have to win with the quick game.
[SPEAKER_00]: I have to win with quick release.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's probably working with Artler Smith trying to piece together what this offense can be.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think there'll be moments, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: Like a lot of a few moments where [SPEAKER_00]: They have a last second drive and the next morning, you've got Steven A and the gang all declaring their own Rodgers is that dude still and you can win a Super Bowl with this guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: But by and large, it's going exactly the way that you laid it out.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be subtle.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to blame people, kind of, you know, passive aggressively behind the scenes and in the public eye, you're going to hear grumblings.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's always grumblings right in rumors.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's clashing with Arthur Smith, maybe even like Talmud to an extent.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, last year with Mike Williams, it was the whole quote unquote red line controversy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Get run the route the way he wanted him to against the bills on that intersection.
[SPEAKER_00]: Here's going to be all that stuff because he cannot will his way to the point that he was able to in twenty eleven or twenty fourteen or even twenty twenty.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's not that guy anymore.
[SPEAKER_00]: That player is extinct, Dodo, gone.
[SPEAKER_00]: So since that player is extinct, I think it just ends ugly and a division with Lamar Jackson.
[SPEAKER_00]: and Joe Burrow.
[SPEAKER_00]: Help.
[SPEAKER_00]: Give me the Cleveland Browns quarterback plan over the piece of Perk Steelers quarterback plan at this point.
[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think they have more of it.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is just point to sexual steelers up.
[SPEAKER_00]: You love it about Mike Tomlin.
[SPEAKER_00]: You want to do everything you can to win in the now, and no win seven or eight games probably, but it's going to cost them in the future.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're always not looking at the force.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're too concerned of the trees, and it's admirable.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to fight like hell, but I don't know what the quarterback plan is in Pittsburgh because I mean, it's like the scene in and big daddy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like what's the five-year plan here?
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what the plan is for the CEO as a quarterback, but it ain't good, and it's going to end in nothing but misery.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'll put it to you this way.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're Mike Tomlin and you have seen Shador Sanders's first start and you are offered a chance to go back into a time machine and go back to the NFL draft where you can take him at twenty and give everybody the middle finger and let Aaron Rogers go back up Matt Stafford or JJ McCarthy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Do you do that?
[SPEAKER_00]: If I'm like Tom, what I would.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's pretty headstrong.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he can listen to this conversation and say, no, it's like absolutely not.
[SPEAKER_00]: We did everything correctly here and we're going to win.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like they just paid TJ want to, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: Like he's making historic money.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, campaign we're told now, the probably pay him.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like they're going for it right now.
[SPEAKER_00]: And if you're going for it, you don't do it with a Shidorah Sanders or [SPEAKER_00]: and any of those rookies at all in this draft true you do you do with a veteran but I don't know man we just we've seen this play out and we I think is is it's a lot of those forces that are uncontrollable like if you're the Steelers like the Bengals are loaded up on offense the Ravens made up the best roster in football and age is what it is for your Rogers this part [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, even the most optimistic of optimistic pro Aaron Rogers fanboys would have to admit, like he hasn't been a top ten quarterback and a long, long time.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're right.
[SPEAKER_01]: I always like to slip in a little arad discussion when when Tyler's here.
[SPEAKER_01]: He never knows it's coming, but the next one I want to ask you about.
[SPEAKER_01]: So Albert and I have gone back and forth on this and I like Albert's theory that ninety nine point nine percent of this micaparscence thing is just complete.
[SPEAKER_01]: stage craft.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a total show and on Sunday night football because the Cowboys opened the season against the Eagles on Sunday night football.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to have Mike Florio pop into the studio and say breaking news, the Cowboys and Mike of Parsons have come to terms on a deal.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just like they did with that press cut.
[SPEAKER_01]: Last year, and if you're a member, that was signed minutes before Tom Brady's first game on Fox, which everyone was watching.
[SPEAKER_01]: And now it's a game where the defending Super Bowl champions are coming to Sunday Night Football, and it's a divisional game, does Jerry Jones want to monopolize the entirety of that space, or [SPEAKER_01]: Are you calling BS on that?
[SPEAKER_01]: Because here's the only reason that I tend to just wonder about this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because Mike Parsons came out hard against Jerry Jones.
[SPEAKER_01]: He started talking about Jerry Jones negotiating without agents present, which leaves him open to an NFL PA inquiry.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's saying things of consequence.
[SPEAKER_01]: and he really does seem to not want to be there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think that Parsons is also a great actor or and he's going to go along with this and he's going to get the generational money or do you think that he is not on the field during that first gaming and seagulls.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'll put it to this way.
[SPEAKER_01]: Are you calling BS that this is all a show and that nobody's really mad and that they're just trying to draw up attention.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it does seem real though for make a parses.
[SPEAKER_00]: It does seem like he seems bad.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he seems pissed off.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like it does seem like he's really tired of the sherry and who could blame him with a saw with that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Crosscat, we saw with CV lamb.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is how Jerry Jones and Steven Jones.
[SPEAKER_00]: do business.
[SPEAKER_00]: They just jerk around their best players and they wait for that perfect opportunity to sign that deal.
[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I have to answer your question.
[SPEAKER_00]: I do, I don't think it's BS because the, the jiggas, like, that's what's the beautiful thing about this all corner.
[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody can now see how Jerry Jones and Dallas Cowboys operate.
[SPEAKER_00]: for a while he would do some crazy stuff like the I think of the Roy Williams trade back in the day and got he really wanted Johnny Manzel kind of had to be almost like bear hugged and tackled away from the podium to prevent that from happening from his son so like there was always some of these stories you'd hear [SPEAKER_00]: You know, also like after Bill Parsals had success when he ran the show.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was told Jerry Jones was so upset about that.
[SPEAKER_00]: He said, I will never let that happen again.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like I'd rather lose and be in control versus give the control to somebody else and win.
[SPEAKER_00]: So there's always been these stories.
[SPEAKER_00]: But now it's so clear that the Dallas Cowboys [SPEAKER_00]: They don't prioritize winning.
[SPEAKER_00]: They just don't.
[SPEAKER_00]: If they prioritize winning, then the deck deal gets done here early.
[SPEAKER_00]: The CD deal gets done here early.
[SPEAKER_00]: Make a Parsons get done.
[SPEAKER_00]: You lower the cap number in year one.
[SPEAKER_00]: You go sign a linebacker.
[SPEAKER_00]: You go sign alignment.
[SPEAKER_00]: You go sign a weapon or whatever.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like you go you go get Derek Henry last year.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[SPEAKER_00]: You wanted to play for you.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like he wasn't that expensive.
[SPEAKER_00]: You do all of these things if winning is the priority on a team that won twelve games three years in a row.
[SPEAKER_00]: Winning is not the priority.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just not.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's about making more money than any team in the world.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what they do.
[SPEAKER_00]: Throw European soccer in there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Throw the Golden State Warriors.
[SPEAKER_00]: The New York Yankees, the Dallas Cowboys, make more money than anybody.
[SPEAKER_00]: And how do you do that?
[SPEAKER_00]: You find it.
[SPEAKER_00]: You find a way.
[SPEAKER_00]: to capture the headlines.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the way you just laid it out there, I think is exactly how it goes.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think this deal gets done with all the America watching and, you know, Jerry does the big press conference.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's hoping they win that game because he's in the locker room and he's talking about a win.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's talking about Mike and Parsons.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like they just, they just tried to stay relevant for better or worse.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I was talking to Bryce Butler recently.
[SPEAKER_00]: He, you should catch up with him.
[SPEAKER_00]: He always keeps the real when it comes to Dallas Cowboys.
[SPEAKER_00]: played there for a few seasons and I thought he put it perfect to say on the outside in the media and the fans like everybody thinks there's this inherent pressure and urgency when it comes to the Cowboys when it's the exact opposite like internally there is no urgency there is no pressure like it's not like Philadelphia where people are getting fired left and right and you get two new coordinators in there and then you go into Super Bowl like people just kind of [SPEAKER_00]: They play out the string, their lame ducks, they serve their time in their contract, and then they move on.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like the Mike McCarthy stuff is a perfect exam.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, it's sad.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't know if you have any friends who are cowboy fans, I can't.
[SPEAKER_00]: I feel bad for them.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I guess the jokes on you, if you want to keep supporting a team that doesn't prefer to win games, it doesn't prioritize winning games.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just lower, and just fine.
[SPEAKER_00]: Jerry can Steven, they can run the business over they want, but man, it'd be in theory, Eddie.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have any friends who are Cowboys fans because I just don't know if I could.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I live in the Northeast, I grew up in the Northeast.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you were a Cowboys fan, [SPEAKER_01]: And you're my age.
[SPEAKER_01]: You probably jumped on the bandwagon when it was like Emmett Smith and Treyachman.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I just think that is like the lowest form of sports fandom where you just start liking the team.
[SPEAKER_01]: I bring this up on the podcast all the time, but it's just sticks in my cross so often like Alabama fans in Pennsylvania, New York or New Jersey, like who you have, did you live in Tuscaloosa at some point in your life?
[SPEAKER_01]: Or do you just not want to deal with the possibility that your team might lose?
[SPEAKER_01]: And you just want to go around acting superior for absolutely no reason.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I have no respect for those people because they have to come and pay the paper.
[SPEAKER_01]: And there's always going to be lean years.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why I grow up in the lean years.
[SPEAKER_01]: I live the lean years.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Notre Dame football, last national championship was the year I was born Baltimore Orioles baseball.
[SPEAKER_01]: Are you kidding me?
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they haven't won a playoff game in like eleven years or something like that.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and [SPEAKER_01]: That's where my head is at.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's where I'm comfortable.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like a northeast Dallas Cowboys fan who's never been to Texas, please.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, you just saw it on Sports Center and you thought you needed a personality, you know?
[SPEAKER_00]: You're dusting off a little sports fandom PTSD because it is sad when you get older and you're a sports writer and you're not really a fan of anything.
[SPEAKER_00]: Talk to describe it people.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like I'm sure you've tried to describe your loved ones, but it's once upon a time though, we all were fans of a team and I was a massive Green Bay Packer's fan as a kid.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I caught a lot of help for the reason, like, oh, of course, you know, in ninety six, they won the Super Bowl and yes, no, it was a couple years prior to that, according to my parents, I loved Gumby.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I associated the green and the G with the packers and then what happened?
[SPEAKER_00]: What happened to the nineties, got her.
[SPEAKER_00]: They got their butts kicked by the cowboys, it's like repeatedly.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he was a kid in my grade at, you know, [SPEAKER_00]: He was a buddy growing up, Vinnie Smith, huge Cowboys fan, you know, we played sports together all the way through from third grade all the way to high school.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that, you know, second, third, fourth, fifth grade.
[SPEAKER_00]: He had those bragging rights on me, because the Cowboys just would beat up the Packers.
[SPEAKER_00]: So even when Green Bay like won the Super Bowl, I couldn't get him off my back really until the next year.
[SPEAKER_00]: When Green Bay beat Dallas, the Lambo field in the regular season, they kind of ended that once and for all.
[SPEAKER_01]: man.
[SPEAKER_01]: I guess, I mean, I guess you could accuse me.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I was born into Notre Dame fandom.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the team has always been decent, but I think that I've seen far more heartbreak as a sentient adult than I have anything else.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, whenever they get to the national championship, which have done a couple of times in my adult life, you just laugh and you're like, okay, you know, it's over.
[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, Alabama, they lose like by forty five points or Ohio State, which, you know, they think [SPEAKER_01]: They gave it a go.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was proud of them, but yeah, it's one of those things where I don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you were not a fan of something yet, you have to get it on the ground floor.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll never forget, I was in London once.
[SPEAKER_01]: covering Jaguar's bills and this is back in Rex Ryan bills like pre pre Sean McDermott pre Josh Allen pre Brandon Bean and I'm talking to this British guy at a bar and he's like he's saying how much he loves the bills at you know from London or whatever and he said it was because of CJ Spilla like he just loved CJ Spiller for no reason and I think about that guy all the time because of my god bless that guy [SPEAKER_01]: because now is his payoff.
[SPEAKER_01]: He was waking up at six o'clock in the morning, London time or whatever the hell it was to watch the goddamn bills on some pirated CBS station when Rex Ryan and E.
J.
Manuel J.
You deserve Josh Allen.
[SPEAKER_01]: The last one I saved for you Tyler because I feel like you're a friend.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've gone through a lot together.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've we've covered games in all parts of the country together from college to the pros.
[SPEAKER_01]: You are always honest with me and you're telling me [SPEAKER_01]: that I am wrong.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's why I want you to call BS on me.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have a standing bet with friends that Russell Wilson will start at least ten games this year, possibly twelve, and that we won't see Jackson Dart until very deep into the twenty twenty five season.
[SPEAKER_01]: Jackson Dart was in Buffalo this past week where you make your home base right outside of there.
[SPEAKER_01]: He looked pretty good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Are you calling B.S.
[SPEAKER_01]: on my thought that Russell Wilson makes it almost the entirety of this season?
[SPEAKER_00]: I love your Connor, but if we were at Chuck's, it's Eric use Friday night.
[SPEAKER_00]: I had a few choice words for you.
[SPEAKER_00]: As wrong.
[SPEAKER_00]: I cannot see Russell Wilson lasting into November.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think I think it lasts a little while.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think ideally, [SPEAKER_00]: Joe Shane, brand-table, and New York Giants would love to compete.
[SPEAKER_00]: Give the Cowboys, the Eagles, the commanders, the best they can and what a game here in there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Stay firmly in the in the hunt graphic, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of the goal.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think for the Giants this year, when I guess to Thanksgiving and everybody's sitting there with their families to look up at that TV and see Giants like what?
[SPEAKER_00]: six and eight or whatever.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like hover hover around at that point.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of the goal.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I think even if they're in that hover one, I think that there'll be enough red flags and enough signs from Russell Wilson's game that if he's not like cooked and washed and completely finished, [SPEAKER_00]: He's not close to what he wants.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it even lasted with the Steelers.
[SPEAKER_00]: I took it hooklight and sinker when they torched Cincinnati.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, didn't really look close enough of that Cincinnati defense probably.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, oh man, this is a formula that can work for us Wilson does point of his career.
[SPEAKER_00]: At the end of the day, like, or said earlier with Aaron Rogers, you get to that age, you have a limited skill set, limited physical athletic abilities.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's where this is going for Wilson.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, jeez, Jackson darted the retouched down against the bills and the preseason and people are getting all excited.
[SPEAKER_00]: And what, I love Ryan Dable.
[SPEAKER_00]: When he did his Ajax start for a first station and on mid, you have six seven.
[SPEAKER_00]: The dart hype is just gonna grow and grow and grow with every solution, every interception, every mistake by Wilson in that barca as it should.
[SPEAKER_00]: You drapped into the first round, which by the way, Shane and Dable are our buddy for their jobs.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they're gonna want to show ownership.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the fan base, they drafted somebody that can play at some point those lines cross.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's probably earlier than scenario you laid out.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I look at this schedule and you know, you start the season with back-to-back road games against the commanders and the cowboys.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then you have the chiefs and the chargers, which two excellent defenses, the chiefs are in prime time on Sunday Night Football.
[SPEAKER_01]: None of those games you would want Jackson Dart to play in.
[SPEAKER_01]: I would assume if you're the Giants.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're trying to really just get this thing off the ground, [SPEAKER_01]: in a stable fashion.
[SPEAKER_01]: The first game that I might play against is Sunday October fifth against the New Orleans Saints.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's on the road.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's indoors.
[SPEAKER_01]: Conditions are probably a little bit more suitable.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a bad team, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Just for Jackson Dart to kind of get off the ground.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can probably have a lot of family, you know, as whatever is your old misguide.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can have a lot of your people down there, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: maybe it feels familiar.
[SPEAKER_01]: After that, you have a short rest trip.
[SPEAKER_01]: You have a short rest home game against the Eagles.
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I don't want him against Vic Fangio yet.
[SPEAKER_01]: You've advanced Joseph at Denver, then you get the Eagles again.
[SPEAKER_01]: So twice in about the span of twenty days, you have the Eagles, then the forty-nineers.
[SPEAKER_01]: I guess then maybe Sunday, November, ninth against the Bears, it's sold your field.
[SPEAKER_01]: Possibly.
[SPEAKER_01]: But again, this schedule is so brutal that I don't know where you just drop this kid in and say, go figure it out without breaking them.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I agree completely.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that Shane and Dave were probably sitting there looking at the schedule just like you and saying, man, we want to bring this kid along.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[SPEAKER_00]: We want to win.
[SPEAKER_00]: but it might be ugly and we don't want to throw them out there against this bombing at the mouth defense and had as confidence hurt but if you know at the same time though two things are first like the giants more than any other team know [SPEAKER_00]: You can have all the plans in the world, you know, Mike Tyson's still going to stock in the jaw a couple years ago, the injuries that they had on the offensive line were insane.
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, however, team as injuries, but you're you're literally pulling just in few off of the couch throwing them out there.
[SPEAKER_00]: All of a sudden he's playing a lot of tackle.
[SPEAKER_00]: He never played before.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like they know, like things can go haywire in ways that you cannot expect.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that could happen.
[SPEAKER_00]: But also like Brian Dable saw first hand, but Josh Allen.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying Jackson Darts, Josh Allen at all.
[SPEAKER_00]: But he saw the benefits of a rookie quarterback getting thrown out there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And just in just learning, I mean, that bill's team in twenty eighteen was not was not good.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they by design by the way, like they stripped that roster down.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he had like, [SPEAKER_00]: Dante Thompson and Robert Foster and my guy Isaiah McKenzie.
[SPEAKER_00]: They picked him up the street.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's given you a meaningful snap.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: You might have been kicking around.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like they did not have weapons around with Josh Allen.
[SPEAKER_00]: But you saw some signs of optimism and he's leaping over Anthony Barn is first start.
[SPEAKER_00]: He had some insane throws against like the Jag wires at home.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Jalen Ramsey's old comments calling Josh Allen trash our research is like [SPEAKER_00]: They were like these little blipsing glimmers and like, oh man, like, maybe this guy's different than Tyrod Taylor, like he's taking chances.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's, he's pushing the ball down field.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's fun.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's turnovers and it's chaotic at times, but great.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then one, I think there were six and ten.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then in the next year, they make the playoffs.
[SPEAKER_00]: The year after that, they get to the Fc championship game.
[SPEAKER_00]: And now they're, they're wearing the division every year.
[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe that's like the timeline and Bryan Dable and Josh James head.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, okay, yeah, we want Russell Wilson out there.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's the veteran.
[SPEAKER_00]: Who probably is more ready than a rookie quarterback right now, but we know the benefits of Jackson Dart just running around, making plays, bigger and shit out.
[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a value to that that I think Brian Dable probably appreciates as much as anybody in the sport.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the one thing that is kind of giving me pause, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: As we saw like, [SPEAKER_01]: like Drake may, and I thought that guy was just gonna get obliterated, but you get hit a few times and you realize that he's got the ability to take it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I do think that there's something to that too, like, you know, we found out with Josh Allen, like the guy's made of oak, you know, and you don't know that until you put him into absolutely the worst case scenario.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: I am like probably the last person on earth who still believes that Russell Wilson has a little bit of cooking left in him, [SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, it's good to have a friend like you Tyler that just helps me get to the place where I can probably finally let it go.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe, look, I know there's some really good recipes out there.
[SPEAKER_00]: My wife is, she loves to cook food.
[SPEAKER_00]: She's, are we more cooking books than we know what to do with?
[SPEAKER_00]: And I just keep buying them as gifts.
[SPEAKER_00]: She's got the New York Times cooking, email, recipes like, and look, a lot of people can follow recipe.
[SPEAKER_00]: You cook something up.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if you lay it all out, like a Brian Dable's lay it out a perfect game plan, and there's scheming guys open, maybe.
[SPEAKER_00]: You can thread that needle counter.
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe even with his limitations, he finds a way to follow that recipe verbatim.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just think he's probably gonna screw something up, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: A little too much sauce.
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he sets it at six hundred degrees.
[SPEAKER_00]: Is this at a four hundred or fifty degrees?
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it's just, you know, I think it's probably the other other extreme.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably like how to milk a toast, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably just a little cold.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't know, I don't like cold pizza.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a cold pizza kind of year for us.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, maybe you like whole pizza.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not, I can't, I can't even eat pizza anymore, man.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, that's how old I am at this point.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, just give me, just give me like a salad and it's so disappointing, you know, what I've become.
[SPEAKER_00]: Man, you're running marathons and you're insanely fit, you're a machine.
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't sell yourself short.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I used to be cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: I used to be fun.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I like having Tyler running reminds me of of of the maniac that used to to light up Chuck's and and all other manner of drinking establishments in in Western New York, but [SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate you so much coming on today.
