It's it's you know, nine ten days away.

It was thirty yeah, twenty eight, twenty.

I want to ask you just the process of you deciding, hey, I'm going to go into the draft, making the announcement, and then that day that your your name gets called and you're going to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Oh man, some of the most hectic times in my life trying to figure out my next move and and just trying to attach myself to what was the most promising.

It was so many unknowns.

Just coming from McDonald's and I got to see all the guys and you know, your friends and shit.

So yeah, now I was just in a big ass question.

Mark had a bunch of what ifs I was able to.

Yeah, I was just trying to figure a bunch of shit out.

But once I figured out, like you know what, after I played Scottie and after I had the interaction with the Isaiah and everything in the gym, I left there feeling so different about the decision making.

And then as I started doing more research with limited resources, I was just like I started to form this ideal in my head, like, you know, wherever you go and whatever you do, you're gonna have to put in a hunt it to a thousand times to work, just because you know it's collegiate, you're behind it.

You know it's pros, you're behind it.

So I was more thinking of how do I develop fast?

How do I speed?

You know?

It was more like that.

And then it was like whatever decision I make, I'm gonna have to live it out.

So I was just like, you know, I got an opportunity, actually, you know, I got an opportunity right now to fulfill my dream and do all this that we're talking about in this room.

And I was like, man, to go for this shit.

At the end of the day, Man, shit, this shit don't work.

It's always collegiate right here.

So that's how I looked at it.

But then I started getting through the process and I started understanding the process.

It was all basketball.

It was all things that I had done.

It was nothing new, you know what I'm saying.

So all the things that they were asking of me and all the things, it was all things that I already had familiar with and all that.

And then when I made the decision, got through the process, get drafted, I came.

I don't remember anything else because I'm in it.

I didn't care about what I did up until that point.

I didn't care about what was said about me.

I locked in to that point all the way up to when I retired.

The moment I jumped in the league, I never turned off.

It was no one around me.

It was no one that was a part of my life.

It was nothing that I had ever dealt with or whatever was going to fuck this opportunity up for me.

No one, nothing else.

So that's how I went at that opportunity.

So you know, if it was the girl that I started dating and we ended up getting married, this is how I need you to be in the circle.

If you're going to be one of my friends, and with just how I need you to be.

And I never came out of this right here, nothing ever, nothing this circle right here, nothing other than when I started having kids and I was much older at thirty something, nothing was a bigger priority than this.

So the morning I came into the league, I never turned off until I retired.

And ticket when you were making the decision of going into the draft, like, was there people you were reaching out to and trying to get advice from, or was a decision you just made with you know, your high school coach and family members.

I was trying to I was trying to reach out to anybody and everybody.

Paula tell you this, Paul has a I mean he's from LA had a little more resources probably than I did at the time.

But yeah, it wasn't anybody to talk to.

I had bumped into Isaiah Thomas on the fly.

That was great for me.

I had a conversation with obviously Scotti.

But everybody, you gotta remember, I'm like the face for us.

So it's Paul Pierce, Antoine Walker, Allen Iverson, Koby, I'm I'm the face for all this new school ship.

You know what I'm saying.

So That's how my Piers was looking at me.

But the old head looking at this Wyn coming there.

Wow, you don't want to hear this shit, man, you And there was a bullying system, you know what I'm saying, tell you us and y'all came in, and actually the system started to transcend when I came in.

They started to give a little bit because some of the things I couldn't do the NBA would not necessarily being roused.

But they started to transition into a more newer generation of things.

I remember David Stern telling Slam to take AI's tats off because that wasn't you know, it wasn't primitive to the league.

And Jordan didn't wear tattoos when he had the big ass brand on his chests, and Barkley didn't have you know what I'm saying.

So we was always in comparisons to who was gonna carry this thing into this into the next.

So I was yeah, and I was R and D you know what I'm saying.

I was let's see how this do you know what I'm saying?

Then second year I'm an All Star.

I don't think those things was in the components of me developing that fast then next thing you know, I'm starting third year, I'm starting an All Star game.

You know what I'm saying, Like, I'm here, like it took two years to get here, right, So now everybody's seeing me playing.

You know what I'm saying when I running to him, when I running to anybody, everybody like, hey, man, hey, you know what I'm saying.

But man, he'll tell you this because he went through the same kind of process.

Man, it's a bunch of unknowns, and you gotta bet on yourself.

And when people don't even see you as the same as you see yourself, you gotta make them see it.

That's what I was on.

I was always on proving somebody wrong and proving myself wrong.

I was always in that cloud of shit.

So that's why when you saw me on the court, I look, man, I look, because I was like he was talking about so motherfucker, and I'm gonna be out the league in two years.

So that competitive nature man carried me through.

But let's go to the day of the draft ticket you go to Canada.

Was that your first time ever in Canada.

But yeah, it was in Toronto.

I thought I was in Europe.

I'm like, damn, we in Canada with stuff London.

I was ohod as fucked.

So first time in Canada and then going into the draft.

When you're there, you know you're suited up, you're excited.

Are you knowing, Hey, I'm going to I'm going to Minnesota or what were what were your thoughts kind.

Of leading in Toronto, We're trying to find a place to eat.

You know, I ain't taking no bread and ship like that, you know what I'm saying, And like it wasn't no agent paying me off.

I I wan't doing none of that ship Like I wanted to make my own brown want to have to owe nobody ship.

So I ain't really had no super bread to do a bunch of shit.

So you know, I was on something like you know, Tom and Jerry walking around here, see what it is and ship.

So I was doing a bunch of like sight seeing because that was the first time we was out the country or being to Canada.

And who were you with when you were out the mom I had a girlfriend at the time, my best friend Bug and two of my Homeboys, No and Uh Bill, they came up there with me and Kareem.

I had like a little group of us up there with my agent at the time, and it was it was cool, man.

It was all for us to be able to go through this experience, you know what I'm saying, because I don't think a lot of them have been out of Chicago or been out of the country either.

So it was just this big, this big thing of just of a question mark of what's gonna happen.

So yeah, I was seeing all the other guys g Trin and stack House and Sheet and everybody having on a real nice suit and shit, I got the little rock chest, a little you know what I'm saying, big and tall suit on and you know what I'm saying, I'm just I'm just, you know, saying, I'm doing my ffa.

Man, I'm trying to slide through not fucking nobody, you know what I'm saying.

And then Uh, the niggas crack jokes on me and Ship and I was like, you know what, me betting all y'all niggas.

Watch niggas looked at me and everybody start laughing, And I was the only nigga there not laughing, and then we get we get our draft on and that's when Wolf came down to the room like, Nigga, Hey, hey, nigga, I got your test.

Nigga going to you downstairs, going to the lead and throw that sh in the trash.

Uh, get it right to the money salute And with the fifth picton in nineteen ninety five, Yet tapped me on the showtime.

Then I saw the cameras come around.

That's the only time I swear to god, I got nervous.

I had to fly to New York and do Regis and Kelly.

I wore this USA jacket on some I don't know, I don't even know why.

That's what I was feeling.

I was in New York, you know what I mean.

I had to go do a bunch of media stuff.

Then they threw me on the plane.

I land in Minnesota.

I do the press conference there, and then the first thing Kevin McAll wanted me to do right after that was now only meet the owners, but meet the community leaders.

So after I met all the owners of the timberwarves, I go into this room and it was it was just like a bunch of black leaders, you know, education programs in the street, community leaders, and Kevin Mchall thought that would be a great job or a great idea for me to interact with, you know, community leaders to understand the city, you know, north sides, just south side, is this st East, Saint Paul's this, this is this, And that helped me acclimate quicker than most guys or when I heard she talk about acclimating the Portland or guys, that was you know, so I felt I felt special.

But man, it was a whirlwind because trying to find a place to live, and you know what I'm saying, like that's that's that's all that that had my head spinning.

So I had to actually put some structure into my own life to where yeah, it could accommodate and help me with some of my things.

But yeah, man, once once I hit the draft, bro, it was gone.

I was gone.

It was of.

It was off, off and winning.
