Reviews for Sonic Racing CrossWorlds + Mailbag w/ MICHAEL STEARNS
Episode Transcript
Well, you know, it's time for the weekly show.
It's the one with David and Grant.
And there's also Bo.
And you know, it's every seven days.
Sometimes it's give or take or so, and then I sing the intro.
That's how you know it's time to start the show.
Welcome back to Sonic Weekly show about Sonic the Hedgehog.
Every seven days or so, sometimes I sing the intro.
My name is Grant.
And with us, as always, as usual, is Bo.
Hi, Bo.
Beat me up.
I'm happy to be talking about Sonic with friends again.
Out of the shadows, into the spotlight.
It's David the Lurker.
Whoa.
Hi, Grant.
Hi, Beau.
That's right.
We're hanging out in the labyrinth zone, which I heard has very reasonable rates.
That's right.
It would be beachfront property if it was not underground.
There's a cheaper area, it's the one under final zone with the purple water.
You can get it for a better rate.
And with us again returning as the 4th Beetle on the roster of 4th Beetles of the show, it's our friend, game developer Michael Stearns, also an artist.
Sonic has past Act 2, I'm talking to you.
And I guess this is going to be sort of Part 2 of our Cross Worlds Mario Kart world discussion, because there's news that really reframes that conversation a little bit.
There's a lot to talk about with Cross Worlds.
Let's get to the news, Mr.
David the lurker.
Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep.
Yeah, that's that's a new sound.
I think that's right.
We are being buried in a flurry, in a flutter, in a Mick flurry or a Mick flutter of news regarding Sonic Crossroads.
We are in like, OK, so by the time you listen to this, the game will almost be out, right?
We are.
We're recording on the 18th, so we are four days away from digital Deluxe, pre pre gaming.
We are one week away from being able to just enjoy driving along the Dompan's Mad Cap Ride of Terror.
Yeah, you're right.
Next week when we record, the game will have been out on early access for a few days, right?
Because it comes out on the 23rd for most platforms that aren't the Nintendo Switch.
That is, Yeah, that is true.
The Nintendo Switch is still hanging out there.
They you're not allowed to play anything early.
It's probably because Mario said no, he's not allowed.
He doesn't want Sonic to to take the spotlight any more than he did.
Because what's happening, right?
Reviews are starting to pour in and the Sonic community is all a a flutter with their Mcflurries.
Because a flutter.
With the Mcflurries.
I don't know.
I don't know what I'm.
Doing.
I love it.
Yeah, I love it.
IGN Every Sonic fans favorite gaming website reviewed cross worlds and people compared that score with Mario Kart World.
Mario got an 8, Sonic got a 999.
999 9999 times.
Here's this is where you'd play like a thing from the Ferris Bueller movie and you're like 9 * 9 times.
The number 9.
#9 from The Beatles thing, the number.
9 That's what, 3 laps for every course that gets you.
3.
Times 3 baby.
All right.
And OK, right.
The what's the Metacritic scores?
Grant?
I think you had those on hand.
Yes, Mario Kart World remains ahead at 86, but Sonic Racing Cross Worlds climbed from 82 up to 83 today, Dave.
And who knows if that's the end of it?
It may continue to climb as reviews come in from mybutt.com and gamerfart.net and.
Is gamer fart?
Is gamerfart.net available?
Can we do a quick check?
Well, let me, I'll go check the registrars and let you.
Please do if it's available, we might need to get it just for ourselves.
It'll go to the official Sonic Weekly website, which we don't have yet, but it does.
Remind me we can we can do mailbag this episode.
Oh.
Yeah, we, we can crack that open.
But before we crack it open, we should probably talk.
I mean, there's also lots of of little, little bits and pieces that have been coming about cross worlds all week.
The probably the other biggest piece of news, someone we don't know who because they've chosen to remain anonymous I guess, got the game early and they cracked it open and put it on the Internet.
Confirmed that indeed.
Spoilers if you don't want to know anything at all.
Nights from Nights in the Dreams is definitely on the back cover.
So it looks like there is Nights representation.
Not that I think anyone doubted it at this point.
It would have been odd to fake it.
They also cracked open the box and there was a tiny little insert listing all that fancy DLC that you can get.
You know, like like Minecraft and SpongeBob, but it also includes the last unknown franchise.
It's going to be a part of the cross worlds experience.
Fill up your E tanks.
It's it's Mega Man.
Whoa, Yeah.
This is the which one?
2-3, This is the got to be like the fifth time they've crossed over.
Yeah, they're buddies.
Right there, there's there is that that famous 90s image of, you know, there's that that drawing.
It's like Greg Martin, Sonic and.
I don't know if it's.
Greg Martin, Mega Man.
I don't know if it's Greg Martin, but it looks like that.
And they're shaking hands.
They've joined together comic book crossovers, Smash for the Wii U slash 3DS and the Ultimate like they are, they're they're pals, they're Bros.
And and now they're going to keep on crossing over.
Now, unless Mega Man 12 gets secretly announced and we find out Sonic is as a robot master, I don't think we're going to get the full Pac-Man experience.
But hey, it's it's a it's a trio.
It makes sense, right?
Platformer mascot of a company.
They're all there.
Mario's not invited.
They're blue.
Blue.
Yes, Yeah, yeah.
Sonic and Megaman.
It's like peanut butter and Jelly, except I'm better at Mega Man, just like I'm better at peanut butter.
I mean, I'm better at Sonic.
I'm better at Sonic than I am at at Jelly.
Wait.
Oh God.
There I am.
Is, is there a push going with Mega Man right now marketing wise?
I because I was at the hardware store today and I was waiting in line and they were selling lanyards of, you know, various brands.
And the video game lanyards that they had were Sonic and Mega Man and Mega Man X.
Like Mega Man X is a separate Wow.
Yeah.
And on the other side they had pins with Sonic and Garfield and other characters too.
Garfield.
Yeah, I gotta say, whoever designs the Garfield pins, Jim Davis paws, they looked really good, like nice looking pins.
So it's like maybe I want a Sonic pin, but it was just like, I'm not really feeling this, but these Garfield ones are really cool.
But I don't want 1, you know what?
But anyway, I was surprised to see Mega Man at the hardware store like that's.
Surprising, it does seem like it's a brand that has been at a dead end for a while, aside from every couple years they'll release a new compilation.
Right, they just announced one recently, the Star Force, Right, Star Force exactly which?
Means they did announce that that wasn't on the Nintendo Direct, was it they?
It was not.
Was it not in the?
Direct it was.
Not in the direct and then they left it out, but then it then they put it up under YouTube.
OK, right, so it was it was there anyway, but it all blends together right because they've almost tapped out their collections in general.
It's basically what legends and they.
Haven't put the racing game on there, have they?
That's right, they could re release the.
Did they make two of the PSP powered up games or was it just one?
It was just one powered up.
I mean, the Legends games you've got.
A different version X.
There was a Mega Man X PSP game but it wasn't a powered up game.
It was.
Like, yeah, yeah, powered up should be more widely available.
I think it's great.
It it Yeah.
And Tron Bon.
Right.
So the Legends 1-2 Tron Bon battle and Chase the the racing game was in the game QPS 2 Mega Man X collection, correct, Which is yeah, I believe it was yeah.
Because that's familiar.
Yeah.
Because like the the Mega Man anniversary collection had the power fighters, the power battle and power fighters, which I don't think those are in any of the modern collections, right?
Or are they?
No, you're right that they're only in the old Game Cube ones, right?
So it.
Is funny that there are still games in the older collections that aren't in the newer collections and I guess they need.
To do like a gems collection for Mega Man of of like all the like sort of random.
There's the the Game Boy games, right?
The the Game Boy games, Yeah, they just.
Dumped those on Nintendo Switch Online, yeah.
But that's what those are.
You can't buy those on Steam yet.
So, right, right, right.
You cannot.
Yeah, so.
Yeah, I mean, we're we're not a Mega Man, but I mean, I guess we're talking Mega Man because Sonic is gonna be driving Mega Man.
Is that did we talk?
About Pac-Man.
We we mentioned PAC, Pac-Man when he was announced.
Yes, I think you were.
You were, you were away.
OK.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
See where you were, you were babying it up.
That's right.
Right.
So not as extensive as the Mega Man collaboration.
Because there is.
Unless Sonic's going to be in the Star Force Collection.
I know it's it's exciting, I guess.
Yeah, I like Mega Man.
I like that he's going to be there.
It makes a bit more sense than SpongeBob, let's be honest.
I.
Just wish that we, you know, we've got Paramount so you could still put in the impossible Mission Force, You still put in the cast of The Godfather.
You have Michael, you could have Frito, Fredo, you could have.
Star Trek you'd have.
Star Trek you could have.
You reached to Warner Brothers, You could have Batman, you could have Game of Thrones.
They already did a crossover in the comics.
That's.
Right.
Yeah, I'm kind of.
Surprised Batman's not in it.
Yeah, do you see the?
Ghostbusters And then that's kind of everything I ever wanted as a child, I think.
What about Garfield Kart Racers 2?
Is that the?
Garfield racer.
Is Garfield two out?
I have.
No idea.
And that's the point that that's the point.
I mean where don't I know when Garfield Kart Racers 2 is coming out?
All you can drift.
Yeah.
Oh, is that, is that new?
It was out.
It was out earlier this month.
Oh.
God, how embarrassing.
How is it?
It's.
I haven't played it any of it.
I think we what the reviews on steam are mixed.
Mixed.
Oh, 44% of 136 user reviews for this game are positive, and Steam skews towards positive votes, so it's not looking good Garfield, but maybe we should already.
They didn't rate it.
We should.
Check it out.
Maybe we should also get The Smurfs CART racing game and we'll meet back here next week.
Maybe.
I gotta draw the line somewhere 90.
9 PlayStation one or like is there?
Smurfs are also blue.
They yeah, they are the The Smurfs are is there a?
Song from Rihanna in the racing game.
I doubt it, it looks really cheap.
Smurfs is one that I really don't get.
Don't really get that one doesn't.
Speak to me either, yeah.
Smurfs is weird.
I.
Think I've learned about Smurfs is kind of problematic.
There's also yeah, I like there's there's there is there's like racist Smurfs comics.
Oh yeah, the very.
Old ones.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I think.
Most comics before 1999 are racist, right?
I don't know if you were like it was a bad artistic choice on that one.
I've I've read that particular comic and it it it, it corrects easily.
You just change the color of those Smurfs and problem over because they're because they were basically zombie Smurfs and just like the.
Knuckles Omnibus volume one in Scott Shaw Sonic Days.
Just a little retouch.
It's a little recolor and you're good to go.
Just a.
Little you say.
Well, I mean with Smurfs.
That makes sense, Sonic.
Look, we know where I where I am on that hill and where I'm about to die, I meant.
To ask is is the recoloring thing.
So they have Scott Shaw's blessing 'cause he did the pencils, but they not have the.
I doubt, I doubt they've they just motorist forward.
They.
Don't even know who he is.
Right.
I read.
I read those credits.
Oh yeah.
I I'm sure they didn't consult because if they did it, it'd be, it'd be one thing if the original colorist was like, I wanna do it again.
I think I can do it better.
It would still probably bother me a little bit, but it would be interesting because it's the original creators.
It's just some guy who called Ken and said let me do it and it's like it would be so.
Nice to find out that the original colorist really regretted every time he had to make tails.
Brown did.
They put a gun to my head.
I never.
Wanted to do this.
I always wanted to use orange but they wouldn't want it.
Yeah.
Well, they were just going off what they had and you look at that early, the earliest concept art that we now have, the early, I mean tales was Brown.
That's what he was in the earliest concept art really there there was a little while ago the the Sat AM historian guy.
He's been getting like a a whole.
You got a whole bunch of scans of the Sat AM concept art and and backgrounds, didn't we?
See in that that they had the orange art like they had the good art, but on the the Sprite.
Itself was brown like the early tails Sprite was like that came from Sega.
That is not.
That is not something they made-up Tails.
Was yeah.
So that's so all the time they keep.
Reinventing Rotor.
They're calling him Boomer, They're calling him Rotor.
They're redesigning him between seasons but they never thought to fix Tails.
No, they're.
Like, no, we got to get this jacket on, Sally, I mean.
All the characters are pretty much all the characters just
slightly tweaked between 1slightly tweaked between 1:00 and 2:00.
Like, yeah, Sally, like Antoine gets redesigned, Rotor gets redesigned.
Yeah, they, they, there's all a little, I think Sonic.
Is an improvement.
Sally's neutral rotor is a big downgrade.
Yeah.
Antoine mile downgrade, yeah.
The if, if there's anything I would have hoped in season 3, they would give another shot at rotor.
Just make it completely every season just completely change and that's what I'd want.
And then they.
Changed and they changed Sally in the comics color before they changed tails color in the comics, Yeah.
But I guess that's because the show they they were if Deke is sending them things, if Sega's not yelling at Deke to change tails and the comic is based on the show and the comic is not invested in and it still it took it was issue 16 before they stopped making Sally paying like I.
Remember, it's kind of a.
Good joke about it, right?
Doesn't isn't it?
Like Sally's thinking?
I bet Sonic's thinking about my hairstyle and then Sonic's thinking, wow her new hairstyle looks great or something.
Oh yeah, there's something like that in in one of those early Scott Shaw issues.
Yeah, they show her like, washing the the dye out of her hair.
She's in like an old timey bathtub of just like a barrel with water and she's like scrubbing her hair.
Well, I think that that's the retcon that Ken Benders introduced explaining the recoloring Bose, Bose recalling just a charming one line.
You're recalling the Everything Has to Make Sense thing from Ken Benders, which of course is then being fully contradicted by his recoloring.
You know today is a special day because it is the 32nd anniversary of the US premiere of Sonic the Hedgehog Sat AM Well, you're right.
Sonic the Hedge Blog Our Friend Ryan Langley.
I absolutely forgot.
I, I mean, I was there, I woke up, I woke up in the morning and, and the, the YouTube RIP that you can watch the, the VHS recording that is from the local affiliate that I watched.
Same day.
So all those commercials, those are the commercials I experienced.
I was there, man.
What?
Were you wearing?
To know that it was it.
Was I don't know, it's mine first.
In his it.
Wasn't bad, probably.
I had AI, had a tiny little TV in my room.
That's where I played Sonic, so whatever.
I slept in as a child, which we don't need to get into details.
Yeah, never mind.
As a dead end I guess I I have an image of young David and footy pajamas running down the stairs or.
You know what I did?
It's.
Sonic time I did.
Have footy pajamas for for a while.
I never think about it, but because you mentioned it, I did have them and I wore them as long as I could, you know, eventually, like the actual footy part breaks, breaks and so I could continue to shove my foot in there even though I was too tall for it.
But at some point I had to abandon it.
I believe I had a blue one and my my sister had a pink 1.
You know, makes.
Sense color-coded but but how did you come to know that there would be a Sonic cartoon?
Because I was definitely in on season 1, but I don't remember which episode I saw first.
It was.
I was.
A fan of TGIF and that's the day prior, right?
The day prior.
It's like, well, one of one of these episodes is being preempted for the Saturday morning Saturday, you know, special preview.
And it mentioned Sonic in that.
So it's like, oh, there's Sonic.
I'm locked in.
Because I don't think I would have known any other way, did they not?
Do a preview like of the show or like show some of the cartoons.
Oh, not in TGIF or.
Yeah.
Is he just talk about it?
No, they they showed it.
They show like the the first the 5-7 minutes of Sonic OK.
Yeah, so I.
I guess I would have seen that too the day prior I remember.
Watching it, I, I, I did what I even knew that it was going to be on TGIF and I checked it out.
There, I mean, it's possible I might have seen a commercial ahead of time because like I was plugged in.
I was I was a TGIF kid thinking about family matters and step by step Hanging with Mr.
Cooper was airing at the time.
Yeah, absolutely.
You're right.
I.
Was, I was about to say full house, but full house was was on Tuesdays.
They weren't part of the TGIF lineup.
Sorry.
That's right.
That's right, it's a it's.
A pre Sabrina world Sabrina the Teenage Witch doesn't exist yet.
I mean, exists in the comics, but there's no.
No sister.
Sister yet.
All right.
Was this.
I have a.
Question.
Yeah, for the timeline of Sonic things happening, you've got the debut of Sat AM, we've got the release of the issue 1/4 preview for Archie Sonic and then the release of, we'll say issue one of the mini series that that was the full version of or it was the full version of the 1/4.
What was the time frame for those?
What order?
I mean, obviously the quarter happened before the right the.
The quarter happened before.
I don't think we have an an exact date, but the.
Issues 0I recall right?
Yeah, it.
It yeah, but but.
That's how you.
Issue 0 was first and issue 0 came out in November of 2022.
I am quickly looking at the It's like November.
It's a couple weeks before, before the cartoon.
Before the cartoon.
Yeah, OK.
That jives with my memory all right.
No, no, it's.
A couple weeks before Sonic 20.
Before.
Sonic 2, yes.
The the comic had been out for a while before the cartoon, yeah.
Yeah, Yeah, yeah, right.
So right, the original comic, November 4th 1992 was when it was first available.
And then of course, you know Sonic 2 came out November 24th and then AOSTH would have started before set AM.
Oh, really?
Yes.
The first The first episode of AOSTH was September 6th, 1993.
They were.
Marrying that in my neighborhood and.
Then sat AM and we.
Only got sat AM at 1st and I didn't get to see any of that until later.
Right the the main Archie's right the main Archie series started April 27th, so it was still a few months before like.
The they picked it up like immediately it was it was continuous, right?
Like the next month it was here's the rest of them right?
Well, you.
Know there was the miniseries zero to three and then there was a month or two in between Oh really yes, so there there was a brief gap between the miniseries and the main series because I subscribed like.
Immediately because I was like, I ain't going to be bothered to go to the store to get these.
I'm going to save $0.25 or whatever per issue by getting the subscription because I was so sure I was going to love this comic.
And why not?
It's Sonic.
Yeah, because they.
Knew they were going to be doing they they were offering full year long subscriptions from the very beginning.
So yeah, I'm surprised there was a gap.
Yeah, I but as it turned out, surprise, I didn't like the comic very much, so I guess I didn't mind not getting it for a month in the middle.
No biggie, right?
And so then Princess Sally, she her color, her color scheme from pink to brown.
It didn't happen until August 4th, 1994 was the first issue with her being brown.
Which means like the show was on for over a year.
Wow.
Or it was almost like season 2 hadn't started yet, but season 2 was coming.
That that that is the the chronological excitement of of Sonic and I don't if we still want to do news.
There were a couple of these things.
I like how we've celebrated the the anniversary and it's mostly just me complaining about tales color and non caring for the comic.
I'm sorry fans of those things.
I you you guys are great.
You are right to enjoy the things you enjoy.
I got I got no beef with you guys.
I think you're wonderful.
I mean, I, I've, I haven't hidden the fact that I am, I am a fan of of Sat AM and I am a fan of those early Archie issues.
Like they yeah, it's not game Sonic, but it's still Sonic.
It's a valid form of Sonic.
And that that is the Sonic I grew up on.
Yeah, Game Sonic came up with.
Supersonic, where he fights the dragon, that was like the coolest thing to me because it's like, oh, we're getting the game element in here too, he says.
50 rings in the special zone.
That's where he.
Does.
Wait, are you talking about a dragon or are you talking about universe Salamander?
That's it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
He just happened to stash all these Chaos emeralds just in case he needed to fight a ridiculous comic strip or or a robot.
Wait I I'm confusing him with the spawn mower?
Was that the same issue?
That's.
A different issue I think the spawn mower is pretty because then there's also the Urkel bot is the.
One the last.
Panel is supersonic also has a super sense of humor and he's used a whoopee cushion on on Antoine right is.
That Is that a super sense of humor?
It seems pretty.
Yeah, it's pretty basic.
Actually.
Yeah, sorry, Super basic 19.
93 What?
A year for old Sonic the Hedgehog.
There's a lot, I think.
Sonic Spin Ball, Sonic 2 Game Gear.
Sonic Chaos Doctor.
Robotnik's mean being machine.
Yeah.
Was that 93?
Yeah.
I believe so.
I think I, and I'm trying to think if like 9, if 93 was the year that I really got into Sonic, because it was definitely a combination of Sonic 2 and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.
So if that didn't start until 93, yeah, then I could not have.
It was all hitting.
In 93, I think that pulled in the most people from our cohort.
Yeah, yeah.
Because also like the Genesis was around, you had the probably at that point what Sonic 2 was probably the packing title and.
And the that plus like the redesign of the the Genesis Mega Drive smaller.
Sleeker.
Cheaper and yeah, I, I definitely remember seeing like other kids play Sonic 2 at other kids houses and being like what the and like getting stuck on aquatic ruin zone.
But man, I love Sonic 2.
I want to talk about Sonic two more sometime.
I don't know if now is the time, but I do want to talk about how about Sonic 2 is just such a wonderful freaking game and it gets overlooked because it's so because it's right in plain sight, David, that's the problem there.
It's like, oh, Sonic 2, you take it for granted a little bit, but no.
No.
It's it's the progression of levels.
It's so good.
It's not as cinematic, I'll grant you.
It's not a cinematic.
Is the ending a cinematic?
No, it's not a cinematic.
And is and is the environmental storytelling quite as elegant as Sonic One?
No, it's not.
But the fun playground of him.
Look, I'm not.
I said I'm not going to do it.
David.
Yes.
We can rewind and hear it.
So another time.
Right.
Hey, but you know, Speaking of Sonic 2, what?
Hey, did you know that they released another Cross Worlds commercial?
And it's a Oh yeah, and it's an homage to a commercial level.
Yep, here here.
It is again with Mario Kart World, this is.
Actually, a question this this comes back to a question I have about the earlier versions of the demo that they released.
Did they allow like the, I don't know what they're called in cross worlds, the different racing modes?
Like there's the the equivalent I assume of like a 50CCA100CC and A150CC, right, Right.
Yeah, it's it's speed.
It's like Sonic speed, supersonic speed.
Yeah.
Yeah, is 1 is is supersonic speed, was that available in the network test?
I don't.
Think so.
I think you could only go up to Sonic's or Sup.
OK, yeah, I was playing the demo today.
I was giving that a shot to, you know, is anything different?
Is there more?
No, there's not more.
There's.
Less, but I was playing it and I, I last time, you may recall, I had said I hadn't played that much Mario Kart World.
Well, now I've played a bunch of it because I was like, oh, I should know more about Mario Kart World.
I I want to, I want to get in on this now.
And so I played it a whole bunch and then I played the demo and I was like, wow, this is really slow because this is not a fair comparison because I had been in 150CC and then I am stepped down to the the slower mode in Sonic.
But yeah, OK, good.
Good to know.
Because it did feel faster.
Wait, or did it?
My memory of it was that it was faster and then playing it now I was like, oh boy.
And they just released that commercial where they made it look really fast too, right?
I think there is not going to be the speedy version of the game that you want to be making that comparison with, right?
But I mean, it is, it is.
I remember the the open network test, it is, it was pretty chaotic.
So maybe it wasn't the fastest.
It was just like, there's so much happening at you, it feels faster.
And you could play online, which was also way more chaotic than.
Yeah, exactly.
So that that's, I think that's a huge reason why the demo feels different.
Like it's hard to put the finger on.
Like what is exactly different?
I've seen, I've read some posts from some perspectives of some random Sonic fans saying that it, it feels a little different or handles a little different.
I, I noticed driving into walls a little less, but otherwise it felt like I'm just playing offline, you know?
So it feels more balanced as a result of that.
Balance like Balin Like Balin Wonder world.
How come?
Balance not been announced for this game.
There's a question.
I think Balon and Knight should be driving the same car.
Like how?
Like like a virtual fighter, Jackie and Nakira.
If if Balon had been a hit and Eugene Naka hadn't done insider trading, I wouldn't be surprised if if they reached out and Balon and Knights were together.
Maybe not racing together, but we're both.
In the game together, yeah.
Like they were there, that would be.
Beautiful.
Yeah.
OK.
I have a question.
OK.
So we had, we had the commercial.
Did you, did you like the the commercial a lot?
Of people did it seemed a little.
Basic to me.
I liked the previous one a little better because as we discussed, it reminded me of Channel 1 news.
Yeah.
That 1 was definitely better.
I did.
I really liked just wow.
They just, they just did it.
You know it, it felt very ballsy to do it.
You know, they put their games on Nintendo systems.
This game is on a Nintendo system and here they are.
I mean, you know, it's, it's, I think that at this point, it's much more in fun than it was in the 90s to make this kind of comparison because it's like a see what we're doing?
We're it's just, we're just making our old jokes.
So, you know, it's not personal.
They even said, hey, that that game that we're representing with a slow moving camper, the game that I compared previously to like something your dad might find nostalgic.
Yeah, we're, we're, we're going there And and Nintendo, you just have to laugh at it.
Sorry.
Imagine.
Imagine if Nintendo did decide to like clap back and they brought back the play it loud sort of campaign and that like the like edging Nintendo and they're like, if you want to drive into walls, go for it.
But if you want the open Rd.
Mario Kart world.
No, I, I, I, I did like it.
It was kind of pretty straightforward in terms of what it was.
But I, I guess you know what, I liked the reaction to it maybe even more than the commercial.
I just like seeing people get kind of like enthusiastic about it.
Although at the same time there is such this like weirdness to the Sonic Mario rivalry, the modern version of it among really it's one sided.
It's all Sonic fans being slightly on the edge of being annoying and maybe toxed like.
I have seen some very rude Mario fans on the Internet.
Yeah.
They're a lot of that goes and, and, and some of them are they, they don't know what they're talking about.
You just.
You just go, right?
You don't tell, you don't see what's happening.
You, you hit spikes.
You what?
You want to go fast, but you hit spikes.
You can't see one of one of those, one of those guys.
Anyway, is there any more news or it's time to turn the spotlight?
Right.
I was going to say, I guess I feel like I'm the odd man out in in the sense of like the commercial is a very faithful reproduction.
It is it's kind of neat that they did it.
It just, it's that commercial wasn't even for a racing game, it was just Sonic 2 is fast and Mario Kart is not well, I guess in that.
Sense it's a better commercial now.
The original.
Commercial also was about the Genesis in general, wasn't it?
It wasn't just Sonic.
It wasn't just.
Sonic.
There was echo.
There was Streets of Rage.
It was.
It was a lot of echo.
In the original.
It was all the games benefiting from blast processing, yes I guess.
In a vacuum, I'd be OK with it, but because so many game, like starting with Mania, they keep on just rolling out.
Here's a commercial that's a recreation of an old one, or here's a commercial that desperately wants to be 90s.
My enthusiasm for that sort of thing has diminished.
It's not something new that Seg is doing.
It's just old hat.
Remember old commercial?
Here it is again.
And I'm like.
It's cool that you don't like it.
Actually, I like that you don't like it.
I think I think you're very cool for not liking it because you had a good explanation for it and and you know, it's, it's cool to not like some stuff, right?
And it's just poop I want.
I want you all to remember that the next time I say I don't like something, OK?
Michael would think he's cool.
Yeah, I want to stand on your shoulders briefly, David, with two, because there's also a social media post that did this.
There's a Spotify mix, a Sonic racing mix that was some Sonic songs, but also some songs that were just like Post Malone or Christopher Cross or did.
They.
Have you made this?
It did sort of almost feel like they were like borrowing from some of the old playlists that I've made for Bo and for our Discord friends, but it was a good playlist.
But then the social media team or the social media account on Instagram, all of to them posted a very strange certain parodies of of album covers.
So instead of it's Abbey Road, but instead of it being The Beatles, it's 4 Sonic characters there.
But I think it's the actual Abbey Road.
I think it's the ACT like I think I think it's the actual album, which I don't know if you can.
I don't know if you can do that.
Like you can't do parody law when it's, well, they.
They could get their own photo of it right they?
Could, but they didn't.
Oh.
They did.
The movie posters last.
Yeah, yeah, The movie posters like did recreations of like the Home Alone.
It didn't like take the Home Alone poster and just put things over it.
I I.
Think there there is some leeway I think.
It's a transformative use of the material, yeah.
If if it is presented as as parody, I.
And you know how Apple is, they're very forgiving of this sort of freewheeling use of use the parody I completely.
Missed this this post.
I'm looking at it now.
The Flash and the fearless speedster draft.
OK, girl, it's a good.
Post it's it's totally cool but yeah I just wondered if like Oh my God, are they they're allowed to do that I didn't realize you could do that yeah I.
Think you.
I think you can just I mean.
Clearly you can, yeah.
No, I think you can that that is definitely just the the Abbey Road cover.
That was kind of neat.
OK, I'm looking at the legs.
OK, so Sonic, Knuckles, their legs match.
Shadows is reversed.
Does that mean Shadow is dead?
Yes.
OK.
Yeah, right.
OK, now that that that's kind of neat and.
So will The Beatles be in Cross Worlds I.
Wish Wait, there's two Fast and Furious covers in this?
That's because there's more than one Fast and Furious song in the playlist.
There's two Fast 2 Furious, and there's also Tokyo Drift.
Did these songs one of these has a parental advisory explicit content on it?
Is that just for the image or?
You know, I think or is this.
Another song about the state of your bed.
It's the radio edit radio versions of things, so I don't think there's anything explicit.
No, it's just that the the original, that's a Gorillas album.
It might just.
Yeah, yeah, I think it they just took it and went OK, we modified it, but we didn't remove the parental.
Well, it makes Sonic look cool, I guess.
Right.
Cool.
That that's who they should bring back.
They should bring back Hag Humans against Genesis.
That's what I want.
Oh wow.
Wow, that was my first exposure to Sonic the Hedgehog, that ad and I was like wow I hate this.
Why?
Doesn't he act like that?
Nice boy Mario, This is 0.
Yeah, so.
You said it's lasting.
Yeah.
Last week you're it's like that.
It's definitely not Andy Dick.
It's.
Yes, it's definitely not Andy Dick.
Oh.
Isn't that surprising, isn't?
That isn't that who everyone said, everyone thinks?
Everyone thinks it's Andy Dick.
His name is.
Oh yeah, that's not Andy.
I don't know.
It's not.
You know who it is?
I don't know.
It's someone else.
Hold on, like Sonic commercial hag it.
Everyone used to say, oh, it's Andy Dick, but then at some point everyone went no, it's actually Larry Cedar.
Yeah.
Now the thing about Larry Cedar is that it's not mentioned on his website, but he did it.
But it must have come from somewhere, because why would everyone immediately go?
It's actually not Andy Dick.
It's this other guy, people.
Just jumping on the bandwagon I guess.
Can it, can this guy be emailed?
Can can you reach out David and confirm that?
I guess you could e-mail him.
You could.
He's got a website.
I'm assuming he's not dead yet, that's what.
We love to assume, yeah.
What is Larry Cedar up to?
But that's the yeah, that.
Commercial, incidentally, is I my memory is not trustworthy you know no one's is especially going back that far right but I swear I saw that commercial weeks before the official release date of Sonic the Hedgehog.
So that was kind of the one of the reasons why I would when when you talk about his, his so-called birthday, I'm like, yeah, this this doesn't add up.
But, you know, maybe I'm the the other accounts, like the people with the receipts from their early purchases, you know, that's, that's pretty, pretty good.
But I feel like it had already been out before then, or at least they were advertising it.
I'm.
Trying to remember if I played Sonic One.
I certainly played Sonic 2 first in 1993, but did I play Sonic 3 next or did I play Sonic One next?
I don't know, it came in the Sega classics box which is the same type of box the Sonic 3 comes in which is the the Gray Genesis on the red side, the red banner.
So I think it's possible.
I went 2-3 one and Knuckles.
Wow.
I think I.
First played one at the Toys-R-Us kiosk, and then when I got them myself, it was I had Sonic one on the six pack, the Genesis six in one collection, Sonic 2.
I had also on the three in one with Sonic 1-2.
And what's the other one mean?
Being machine, yeah.
Then I had three intervals.
Yeah.
I think that seeing Sonic One in that Classics edition for the first time, I think that was the first time I felt old.
Yeah, and you were what, like 10?
Oh no, it's when did it come out?
I would have.
Been older than that, but yeah, 93.
But like, this is this is the game.
This is the best game.
It came out just a few years ago and it's a classic.
What are you doing to me?
Yeah, it's all, it's all classic.
I don't care.
It was a, it was an instinct classic.
It's just a classic.
The day it came out been like this classic's going to rock your socks off Sonic.
He is not like that nice boy Mario.
He's extreme and his album has a parental advisory.
That's why he's a hedgehog with attitude.
What is that a parody of?
Oh, don't you want to know?
Because it's N.W.A instead of, you know, HW and the N is I.
Well, I won't say it.
Why did?
You take us here, David.
I don't know.
Oh hey, the the theme song.
The full version of the theme song was also released.
You're.
You're referring to the Labyrinth zone cover that Grant just provided for us, no?
No, the the the it's Sonic rave.
Thing that.
That's on the the full.
Verse 3 1/2 Wait, wait it.
Wasn't already the full version out?
Yeah, I don't think so.
No, that was.
That was the the one that came out previously that you're thinking of, I believe is the one that's opening verse.
So it has the open versing chorus and then it fades out.
This has an extra verse and an extra chorus, and maybe another extra chorus too if you're if you're lucky.
Yep.
Lyrics are still strange as ever.
Sonic's going to steal your soul or something, yeah.
I was wondering about that line specifically.
I when I heard it, I was, I was, I definitely did a double take of like, did he just say steal your souls to get your goals?
Yeah.
It is.
It is straight like it.
It's a lot about we're driving fast and collecting rings, aren't we cool?
And then it's like, Oh, I'm also going to steal your soul.
Oh, but then we're going to drive more and there's AT Rex and a monster truck and it's it's it's extremely literal.
And I did see YouTube comments people being like, oh, it's just like the Sonic heroes theme.
It's great.
And I'm like, is it?
I mean, I feel like heroes.
Famous.
Way better, yeah.
I mean, I, I think, I think you're right.
It's not.
Good, but it's no.
And also I feel like I feel like lyrically, I know Sonic Heroes, a lot of those songs are on the nose, but this one is it's way.
It's not not just on the notes, it's in the nose.
This is a.
Description of the nose.
Yeah, I can't remember if I said it said it on the recording, but like, it's cliche to say that bad things are written by Chad GPD, but that song was totally written by Chad GPD.
Speaking of nose, it's time to check in with rings of Saturn, and then we'll come back with a mailbag.
All right?
We're.
Going into the depths of the Dreamcast library on Rings of Saturn and I kind of trolled myself into looking at this game.
This is Championship Surfer by Chrome, the developer who did a few games.
And if you go on the cheat sites, there's a OK, here's you can unlock all the characters in the the beaches for the surfing on the PlayStation version.
And then some Joker just said like, oh, the PlayStation buttons, those mapped directly to the Dreamcast buttons.
L1 is LR one is R close enough, right?
And they just wrote that and they posted it and it got copied all these cheat sites.
But that cheat does not work.
And I went to see what what is the real 1.
And I spent hours and days trying to figure out what's the real deal.
Because this is a Windows CE game.
So like most Dreamcast games, most Saturn games, you're like communicating directly with the hardware.
It's like organized by a human.
But this is some weird Microsoft stuff going on.
And it took quite some time, but with persistence, I found the real code and you can really unlock polar Man, who's this sort of supernatural ice surfer guy.
And he looks great on drift gas.
He looks way better than the PlayStation version.
I I finally did it.
This is my white whale.
No one else is going to care, but I consider it a triumph.
Absolutely.
There should be applause sound effects on the on the thing on the board, Michael, don't you think it's amazing that like every week you'd think like as a joke, you'd be like, OK, buzz.
So every week you'll just like have like a new game that you've like uncovered something that nobody's ever seen.
That's the thing.
It's the journey that makes it so interesting in a lot of these cases, like in your write ups, like talking about how you find these things and it's not it doesn't have to be a game that I'm personally invested in, but right I'd.
Never really heard of this game.
Yeah, seeing, seeing the story is is kind of component of of this Saturn journey that we're all on.
Yeah, it makes.
It makes sense because then you, it's not only you're uncovering unseen gems, you're also getting stories straight from the developers.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, should we remind everyone of ET and his feelings about Osama bin Laden?
ET.
And the Osama bin Laden, the nude code from the same guys, right?
Right.
Killing Dora the Explorer, same guys.
It was.
Wow.
Wait.
I missed that one killing door I just.
Tell you that one.
OK, so the people who made the ET game, they used the very same engine on a 101 Dalmatians game.
And then they copy paste all of that into a Dora the Explorer game.
And Dora doesn't have like the health or lives because it's a game for like preschoolers or whatever.
But this cheat code to give ETA 100 lives also works for 101 Dalmatians and also works for Dora.
And you can't really tell that this has happened because Dora can't be heard.
But you can find in the memory where Dora's health value is and kill Dora and.
Oh my God, I'm definitely.
Going out for this?
But.
When you kill Dora, you know who comes up and says game over?
I do remember it's Corel.
Deville.
Wow, yeah, I did see that one.
She.
Hopped companies.
I mean, unless Disney ends up buying Paramount, but wow wow wow.
Wow, wow, wow, That's a.
Great.
I love that.
I love that story.
I I.
Do really like it when I find OK here's something funny a developer did in one game and then follow the rest of their other games.
That's a delicious taste.
Yes, Speaking of delicious tastes, let's check in with our buddy Barry what he's got cooking up over on Sega Bits.
Hey there, Sonic Weekly listeners, Barry here with an all new Sega Talk podcast to tell you about.
On the latest episode, we discuss unreleased and cancelled Sega consoles as well as Sega's attempt at AVR headset for the Sega Genesis.
Check it out at segabits.com or search for it on your pod catcher of choice.
Back to you and David.
You better watch yourself, because I listen to these episodes and I hear what you say, so you better watch yourself.
Grant.
You're cool, Bo.
You're cool, all right.
What do you say we crack open the mailbag?
We haven't done that in hot minutes.
OK.
From Cooper.
Cooper says.
Hey Cooper here, just asking what is y'all opinion on Infinite and the Deadly 6?
Please put this in the show.
Thanks.
I think it's a pretty cool band name.
Yeah, it's like an emo band, 2002.
Yeah, I'm probably Coachella.
Yeah, I'm sure they had a few arena shows.
You know what, their popular at the height of their popularity.
Not so much now.
But can I give you my?
Quick, my quick reaction to this infinite infinite potential.
Bring him back, put him in IDW, flesh him out.
What makes him so afraid of being weak?
Let's find out in an Infinite 6 issue miniseries written by Team Sonic Weekly.
As for the Deadly Six, more like the Deadly Sucks.
Get them out of here.
Except for Zavak and Zaz, they can stay.
And it seems like that's what Sonic Team and Sega also think, because in cross worlds, Zavak and Zaz are representing.
But the other four, they could kind of be forgotten.
I think they're all offensive to various degrees.
There's the fat one, the emo 1, the old one, and the girl one.
And they're all kind of like weird stereotypes and like, kind of, I mean, I'm kidding when I'm saying they're offensive.
But also at the same time, are they as fun as the Koopa kids?
No.
Are they like real threats?
No.
They're usually just there.
Like the best uses that we've seen I think has been in the IDW comics, where it just gives you an excuse to throw all the heroes in different directions because you've got enough bad guys to take them.
Xena Zorzom and Master Zic, those are the other I think.
Master Zic feels like, you know, Sonic doesn't have a lot of old characters.
So I I do feel like there's a potential there for for something, but like, I don't know.
Xexy, what's her name?
The Girl 1 Xena.
I think it's.
Xena.
Xena like she's.
She's so treading on Rouge the bat territory that it's kind of like, yeah, we've we've this is this this this niche is filled.
I think I think the emo one who's all depressed all the time.
I feel like he could be a solid character like if given, you know, a sufficient opportunity to like, really chew the scenery.
I like.
His line, he's so upbeat, I want to beat him up.
He just says that it's cute.
In the game is he Zor or Zom?
I forget.
Zor seems right.
He's.
Depressed.
Zomom, isn't it?
I don't.
I don't hate the deadly.
Yeah, Zor is the e-mail 1 He he's 112 years old.
Wow.
They're all old for some reason.
Excellent, I can relate.
Yeah, I, I think under the right pen, the Deadly 6 can be super interesting.
It's just they just, they just sort of exist at the moment.
I also think there should be a
secret 7th 1secret 7th 1:00 because the seven deadlies, I guess they're based on something else, right?
They're not.
Spider Man the Sinister 6.
They're based.
On the.
Yes, my hot take is both of them are underrated and that doesn't mean either of them are good.
Yeah.
They just get too much garbage thrown at them, right?
Because Infinite I, I could see him having a comic book arc, as you said.
So yeah.
The return of infinite yeah, do it.
He could have a hole in his chest where where the Phantom Ruby was, but you know, in a in a PG sort of way, I.
Like the idea in his head, he's like a super badass, like the the song, his his theme song.
And like hourly he's not.
And he just like wants to be that.
Yeah.
That's very funny.
That's a funny place for comedy to come from.
Who is the orange one?
Zomom the chunker Zomom, right?
I was like with zom.
No, it's Zomom.
I I looked it up.
It was like I was.
Thinking like a fun story.
I mean, you know, any excuse to get Big the cat in there, right?
But like a fun story would be him and big the cat and like, you know, they both are big and you know, he could learn a thing or two from big, I think.
Oh.
Yeah.
All right.
Could we have a?
Real arc there.
Right, maybe Zo mom's like, I want to have an eating competition and you would think big would be all for it, but big is like, no, we're going to we're going to sit down, we're going to we're going to fish.
And he's like, how are you not eating them all immediately?
Why?
How have you not eaten the whole river?
And it's like, well, yeah, it's not just it's not just eating.
It's also the the journey, the fishing, the catching, the he's going to.
Teach him to slow down and chew your food, Yeah.
A really strange thing that happened in the Sonic world is the big cooking mini game in Frontiers.
Oh yeah, he's got to cook the meat.
He's got it right, and you can't really lose because if you do it wrong, he says.
Well, some people like it that way.
Yeah, it's got great music though.
It's like a weird, I forget what it is, but it's a very jaunty little tune that I'm like the sound.
Design is great because if you win it, he says.
Oh, so tasty.
Whoever came up with that did a great job.
Well, you know.
Now, I mean, I'm kind of convinced that the the deadly 6 have potential because you've just rehabilitated most of them.
The old guy he's got, there's room for him.
E-mail guy needs just some room to scream.
Zamam, you just figured out.
So now it's just Xena.
Well, she could become a warrior Princess.
The worst?
Sin of the Deadly 6 is when you have to fight Zavak in Lost World toward the end of the game, and then you have to pull out this move, which is a focused homing attack that you need nowhere else previous in the game and you can go through without knowing it's there.
And if you don't master this move, you will fight him forever and not make any progress.
It's infuriating.
Yeah, I, I, I, I think I might have had to look it up.
I don't remember it was I had.
To look it up, yeah.
I definitely still have not played that game to completion and I may never.
Do it, I thought.
Right.
I gave up earlier.
I know.
Every once in a while I'm like, oh, I should get all the achievements and then I'm like, oh right, I have to.
Colors has a focused homing attack too.
That's completely superfluous.
What is a focused homing attack?
So.
When you see the reticle, there's like a shrinking effect and if you hit it.
As it shrinks into the circle.
It's a more powerful attack and in colors you get like a rainbow effect with your blue blur and in Lost World you get a more powerful hit against the enemy, but it is not well telegraphed by the rest of the game.
This.
Requires you to accept the premise of Sonic enemies that take more than one hit, right?
Yeah.
Or that have a, a health meter that makes sense, like, in that way because, like, classic Egg man, you know, you just bop him and it feels good.
And you don't do extra damage that way because the extra damage is done by just being incredibly exploitative of all the opportunities you have to hit him.
But that's a neat concept.
I like that Conceptually, yeah.
In the right, in the right execution, it would have been good.
But bam, Lost World does it so badly.
Oh.
Yeah, OK, wait.
What about?
What about Xena?
Oh.
I mean.
I mean, you know, I think they could all have potential, like, as like solo characters, like being given something to do.
But I think as a group they are less interesting, yeah.
That's what they they should all break.
Up.
Yes.
Break up the deadly.
Sand.
That is, the best way to get to know them is via some solo careers.
Infinite.
And the Deadly 6 is a terrible band.
They have to quit.
They have.
To.
That's right.
I mean, that's what happened with Sonic and his band, yeah.
What if you?
Make her just like so horrifying that like, even Eggman is terrified of her like.
Just his.
Solution is to build a theme park and she's like, no, why don't we murder everyone?
That's fun.
I feel like, yeah, you want like, maybe some of them to be evil, actually evil.
Like Zavak and Zazz seem like they're definitely like insane people.
Sociopaths, I mean.
Zaz might just want to party.
Maybe, but his idea of partying involves oh.
Bloodshed for sure.
Bloodshed for yeah, I think maybe he could be steered in in acceptable directions, like a if I'm part of the mob, I can steer it in wise directions, right?
I think he can be.
Tricked into good behavior, He doesn't seem very smart.
Yeah.
I mean, if he thinks it's punk to be good, he might be like, yeah, hey, yeah, I know.
That theme did we?
Talk about infinite.
Well, you know, I, I think we just said he should he should get a a miniseries.
I if if he was, we didn't see him die.
Yeah, we don't really know what happened to him.
I think everyone just assumes he's dead but he just turned into like a glowing ball and vanished and then egg man showed up and didn't talk in his final boss fight.
He should.
Have just been like working on the train and the murder of Sonic the Hedgehog like then I guess supervillain didn't work out.
I'm going to that.
Would be fun bus.
Tables I, I.
Would like to see more Infinite but in the again in the comics I think, I really think the comics is the place to flush my.
I don't know that he maybe is like a mini boss in the way that I mean.
I feel the same way about Mephilise.
There's a cool like Shadow Anti, yeah.
I arch.
Nemesis I want.
To see Mephelus Brock back, you see what I want.
We have Sonic Generations, we have Shadow Generations.
I want to see Silver Generations and.
I.
So it's Silver story during the same time and he's the one that has a proper story with Mephelus.
Like let's really, because Mephelus is doing something in Shadow Generations, but we don't have time to deal with it.
Let Silver deal with it.
Let Silver deal with them.
Like do it I guess re release it in a decade and do it but do.
It come on.
Sega, I'm game.
For it.
My other idea is the Phantom Ruby has messed with his perception so much that Infinite thinks he won and he's just tripping.
You could.
Have him be sort of like how Psycho Pirate is in the DC Comics universe, where he's the one that's like aware that they're fictional or like that they're in a fictional.
Dimension.
Yeah, I guess like Deadpool Infinite should be Deadpool Baby I.
Guess there's a few there's a few characters like that.
We touched on this or I.
Touched on this last time, but Dodonpa, I think if they were to make him be a villain, he's, you know, he's got the resources to be bigger than Egg Man.
And I think that's, that's an interesting role.
They, they, you know, it's so hard to bring in someone who's not Egg Man.
And I feel like, well, this guy's just sitting here pretending to be good.
Yeah.
Turn him.
Turn him evil?
What about?
Like Egg Man versus the Don Paw in a Puyo thing, but you're building like the biggest city and who who can make it happen I.
Love it that prints money the.
The the the the the there's the mean bean machine and the car manufacturing is also a mean.
Yes, it's Pollo.
Bean machine car What if?
You find out that like the Dampa is Eggman's biggest customer for his robot like manufacturing and he doesn't realize.
Maybe he doesn't.
Even quite realize that he's been funding Egg Man through most of these games.
That'd be.
Pretty funny.
That's a fascinating idea.
We have time for one quick more, one more quick pull from the mailbag, because I'm going to summarize it because it was.
It's a bit too long to read, but it's from our friend and EP Doctor Hate PhD.
He says he's read the Sonic Encyclopedia, but he's looking for more texts that are about Sonic, that are either history books about Sonic, particularly about Sonic Music, or our essays about Sonic.
And why doesn't that exist, if it does exist?
First of all, we know that there's The Beatles and Sonic the Hedgehog, but that's a different kind of thing.
There are, there are.
There have been three main officially sanctioned Sonic the Hedgehog histories.
I guess you could say there's the 2011 history Sonic the Hedgehog by Picks and Love, which maybe it's 2012.
There was it was in French 1st and then it was translated into English.
Then there is the art of Sonic the Hedgehog 25th Anniversary, which is they're they're like a an art studio.
They they've also made Sonic prints.
I forget what.
Yeah, we.
Know who you're talking about?
Yes, and.
Then and the yes.
And then there's the dark.
Horse kind of, yeah, right.
And then there's the dark horse book.
The the art one.
I'm not a big fan of the the art book feels like it's cook.
And Becker, yes.
Cook and Becker.
That's what it is.
I think that's the one I have.
I don't.
Like that one is there.
There's a couple things in there that were new, but a lot of it is like look at this blown up Sprite and I'm like.
And there was stuff that was like going across the seam, yeah.
There, there are some stuff words like that should be on either side of the of the seam, not in the middle.
It has very odd layouts.
There is some text in there I don't think I've ever bothered to read like read all the writing in it.
But hey, there's some neat concept art of CD and adventure two that is only from that book.
It's all online now.
These are all.
Out of print the.
The Cook and Becker one I think is is still in print.
I was going to say, oh.
You mean I could get rid of this for some scratch?
No, they.
Re they re released it and added stuff with Mania and Team Sonic Racing, yeah.
So my version is there's two version and worthless.
Right, unless at this point they're out of print.
The history of Sonic 1 I believe is out of print at this point.
That was it, definitely.
Is I had to go to eBay to find a yeah.
But right, those those are the three big ones.
And then there, you know, I guess there's some random stuff.
I, I forget who wrote it, I even forget the name of it.
But I have a tiny little Sonic history book sitting on my shelf because I was like, curious to see what it was.
And it basically is someone's really long forum post where he doesn't cite anything.
And there's definitely things wrong with it.
But he did do the podcast circuit when it was released, like he was on a couple podcasts being like by my by my Sonic history book.
Was he on Sonic podcasts or?
It was a Sonic podcast.
I don't remember now.
A Sonic podcast.
Hey, I mean in the world of of small indie Sonic the Hedgehog publishing, I I would call that a world tour, especially at the time, I think.
There must have been at least two there.
Might have.
I don't.
I don't remember.
I can't even remember the name of this guy who wrote it.
They should.
Get Jeff Robin to write 1.
You ever read any his books?
He used to do like all kinds of trivia books in the 80s and 90s and they were always super unauthorized and they'd be like the unauthorized book of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trivia questions.
Yes, he did some video game strategy books.
I think he had his had his hands in a lot of pies.
I.
Think we're sleeping on?
We need a sequel to Sonic's Shoes Blues, The Golden Book.
Yes, right, it's got pink.
Sally and brown tails and I want to see what happened after that's.
Right, it's Sonic and Socks through most of the book.
Because there's also The Secret Admirer and Up Against the Wall.
Those are the trios.
Yeah.
I mean, I guess because even like Sonic storybooks, you don't.
When was the last?
I guess there's the novelizations of the movies.
That's the most recent thing, even though the.
Novelization for three doesn't have.
The ending doesn't have.
The ending or doesn't have.
Unending doesn't have.
The end from Sonic Frontiers no it.
It basically it's Sonic turns super and flies away because he's angry at Shadow, and then it's like, if you want to find out what happens next, watch the movie it.
Doesn't have an ending.
It was, it was.
It's very baffling.
I don't know why they did that, but but yeah, like I, I would like some more Sonic books.
I would like some more Sega books.
I mean, there are a couple like for like broader Sega books, there's the, the, the Sega Genesis Mega Dr.
collected works and then the the Dreamcast volume as well.
Those are really nice.
Like our books with some history and interviews.
Like I would recommend those if you want some more general Sega history.
And it does have Sonic stuff in it.
Like it's definitely do you know?
If the treasure book the The Untold History of Game Japanese Game Developers is still available in small numbers, I would assume.
When I looked for my radiant silver gun thing, I could not get a hold of it.
Oh.
Bummer.
Oh, really?
OK, If anybody wants to track one of those down, that's a really good book.
It is full of interesting Mega Drive history in there through the lens of of treasure specifically, but you know, it applies to a lot of game development back then there was.
Also, I guess if you're very, if you're desperate for anything, there was a book called Console Wars, which was also then later turned into I, I say because I'm not, I'm not a fan of console wars.
It is a book Console wars.
Is bad?
Yeah, it's.
A book that reads like an adaptation of a screenplay as opposed to an actual history.
The the documentary is way better because it actually is the people involved speaking their own words instead of instead of hey, let's make it like work smoothly.
And there's also the introduction by Seth Rogen and his producing partner.
Like it's it's very Goldberg.
Speaking of smoothly, Movies gets mad when the podcast goes longer than an hour.
So if we guess what, yeah.
That means it's.
Over.
We answered.
We answered 2 letters.
That's right.
That's pretty good, yeah.
There's some suggestions for you and who knows, maybe someones writing a Sonic book.
Right now it's it's Sonic, he's writing his memoirs, I see him and wait, what does it say at the end of that page?
Oh, since you've reached the end of another episode of Sonic Weekly, that's an interesting way to end a chapter.
But can't argue with the hedgehog.
