Episode Transcript
[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna live [SPEAKER_01]: Pretty people.
[SPEAKER_01]: We'll look once again to the party of one podcast, the actual PlayRPG podcast where the gaming table is always set for two.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Rose Always Jeff Stormer, and this week on the show I am joined by Ty from Side Character Quest for a Game of Dead Belt.
[SPEAKER_01]: Side Character Quest is a fantasy podcast, whole as an anthology of tabletop adventures, each following a different character.
[SPEAKER_01]: Quest can be listened to individually but combined, they tell the story of a peaceful, magical world with something dangerous bubbling just below the surface.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you like anthology style to play or one on one actual play, which I mean you're here so I'm assuming you will probably love side character quest.
[SPEAKER_01]: There are just an absolute ton of great episodes to dive into and you can find more information about the show at sidecaracterquest.com or check the show notes for more information.
[SPEAKER_01]: Dead Belt is a solo duet or rival reroll playing game for one to two space cowboys.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is about being a Belter out in the endless abyss of space raiding, derelict broken down ships and trying to turn your next paycheck in the horrible capitalist realities of outer space.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is simply put sick as hell.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can find more information about the game at a couple of drakes.its.io where check the show notes for more information.
[SPEAKER_01]: And with all that said, let's go ahead and throw it over to me in the past that he can get started with the show.
[SPEAKER_01]: Take a past me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks, future me.
[SPEAKER_01]: I am so stoked.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've been, I've spent the last hour building out of playing cards.io room, which means that like I'm in the fucking zone.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sitting now a tie from side character quest.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's so much for coming on part of you one.
[SPEAKER_03]: Hello, Jeff.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm very excited to be here.
[SPEAKER_03]: I have not known a lot of other people that make one on one actual play shows and so I've had my eyes on party of one for a long time.
[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like we've been running in a very narrow circle for a very very long time and I'm surprised it's taken this long for us to sit down together.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, it's it's been it's been too long at this point too long.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's the word.
[SPEAKER_03]: I would use I frankly that's on me more than anything Hey, did there's so many people out there You can't get to everybody.
[SPEAKER_01]: I Ami a pretty boy you letting me off of the hook back in the lot to me Before we get into today's game, why don't you take a moment speaking of two player to help our BG podcast?
[SPEAKER_01]: Let our lovely listeners at home know about what you've got going on that you might want them to know about [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, I make side character quest, it is an actual play anthology show where every quest is following a different character played by a different player, but it's all in one shared setting.
[SPEAKER_03]: A really good entry point for anybody that's new to the show would be episode 101.
[SPEAKER_03]: And, and also in a few weeks in July, I'm going to be releasing a new quest with Fiona, how it of, of DM's book club, and what am I rolling?
[SPEAKER_01]: I love that.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love that.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just a majority of thought for a second.
[SPEAKER_03]: But yes, I'm really excited.
[SPEAKER_03]: It was a great, great fun, but yeah, episode 101 is a great entry point for anybody new to the show.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I think if you enjoy, [SPEAKER_03]: two person games like if you if you're here listening to party of one you have a sense of probably you probably into it yeah yeah there like it's cool be able to like have that that's sort of connection the the [SPEAKER_03]: Intimacy might be a little bit too forward, but I think it's true.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I'm going to do.
[SPEAKER_01]: I would go back to.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a very like little thing that I always say.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think you'll probably resonate with this is like, there's not a lot of conversations you have in your day-to-day life that are extended our long conversations with one other person.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's a very kind of verified air experience.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's what makes [SPEAKER_01]: these sorts of games and these sorts of experiences so like interesting is we're playing in that very intimate space and that sometimes goes very silly or it goes very earnest but like it's that energy that I think like often is not necessarily touched upon.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, it's I love the feel of a two person game and it just it just means that you can really respond to what is grabbing the attention of both people at the table, you're not having to negotiate as much as much space, you know, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Fantastic.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so excited for today's game.
[SPEAKER_01]: We are playing Dead Belt, which is a game about scavenging spaceships out in the endless abyss of space.
[SPEAKER_01]: The opening text of the game, you're not you're alone out here, but that's the way you like it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Out here in the Dead Belt surrounded by the carcasses of space fearing history right for plunder and picking.
[SPEAKER_01]: Another hard beat means enough time for someone else to give your justly priced and prized salvage the old hairy eyeball.
[SPEAKER_01]: That means trouble, and there's enough of that out here is is.
[SPEAKER_01]: Not everyone's got the temperament to be about her.
[SPEAKER_01]: Plenty of folks crack when the grab cuts out in the lights go off, plenty more jump at shadows when their fly starts to flicker.
[SPEAKER_01]: Others are too busy watching their O2 to see opportunities.
[SPEAKER_01]: Some folks just don't have the know how to rig a three channel override through the primary induction boot shroud to get to the juicy payday underneath.
[SPEAKER_01]: But that isn't you.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you can rely on your gear, your smarts in your grit, you're going to make a stack of credit out here among these hooks or you are going to die trying either way, you're going to do it alone or in our case with whatever.
[SPEAKER_01]: No one's coming looking.
[SPEAKER_01]: No one knows you're here.
[SPEAKER_03]: Fuck yeah, this this game has really good vibes.
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that's what initially you you go originally gave me a set of different games to choose from.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I specifically wanted to choose one of the ones that was sci-fi based because I just don't normally get to play there.
[SPEAKER_03]: And this one, these sort of like cowboys on the edge of the universe vibe, uh, really called to me.
[SPEAKER_01]: I really love the, yeah, the Cowboys on the edge of the Abyss vibe is very cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's some very cool like a push your luck dynamics in here that I think is very like Intimidating and scary in the way that like, I, I mean, this is maybe a hot take, but like I really gravitate.
[SPEAKER_01]: I really gravitate and often bounce off of solo RPGs that like, [SPEAKER_01]: don't have a really strong game basis like this is intended to be played as a solo game and like I am very much you know I get very I bounce off a game very quickly if I don't feel like I'm playing a game right like and this has such a the way like what we're going to be functionally doing and I will snap a photo or screen job before like we really get into the weeds of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got a deck of cards here and we're going to be laying those cards out in the shape of a spaceship and we're going to be using that as our like exploring this kind of dead space style room by room as we're pursued by some sort of ominous threat and like that premise is so cool and like the excitement of like flipping a card seeing what room it is and then going like oh god that's very cool and fun to me.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, not to get too caught up in a commentary before we actually start playing the thing, but I, when I first started reading the rules, which I did last week, I So if I'm from Rusty, I apologize, but when I was reading the rules last week, I was initially intimidated by how gamey this was.
[SPEAKER_03]: I was expecting something that was more [SPEAKER_03]: what made this click in my mind was trying to reprocess it less as that type of role playing game and more as the best type of betrayal at haunted.
[SPEAKER_03]: Is that what's called betrayal?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a bit of a trail.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's something he'll kind of vibe.
[SPEAKER_03]: You're absolutely right.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, that's what's called where it's one of those things that you could play it very straight in the [SPEAKER_03]: really engaging with it as an RPG, as like your thinking of it from the perspective of the character.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think so.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's going to be a real joy and like and on just like I mean as a real fucking sucker for betrayal at house on the hill is a game that like I have no I've it's been years and I've never gotten tired of it like this one this one's got my got my number.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go ahead and jump right in I mean we've got to make some characters we've got to get to know our ship get to know the place that we're plundering and then we're going to start to explore.
[SPEAKER_03]: Have you put any thought into the character that you want to play there or some like initial kind of archetypes and kind of playbooks that we're going to be grabbing have you put a thought into like who your character is I read through the playbooks last week and when I was doing that there were a couple that I was like I don't want to do that and I specifically don't want to do.
[SPEAKER_03]: What was it called I think the angel.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, which is like the the healer person.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's the rescue deck next to that.
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't want to be that just because that feels very much like one that is built specifically for co-op.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I kind of want to do something that's like not specifically built for co-op and see how that affects things.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: But beyond that, I kind of wanted to see if there was anything gravitating towards you.
[SPEAKER_03]: And if there wasn't, I was just going to roll.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't shake.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't shake one playbook that I've been coming back to again and again and again.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like read through them and there's so many good ones, but the void rat, like somebody who is specifically a young person who snuck out full of dreams with one of their special moves being that you can sneak that you're your tiny and can sneak through vets.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so glad you chose you like so fucking good to like that.
[SPEAKER_01]: It really something I think the name void rat just like really got me yeah something about like I've played this is a this is a back this is a Jeff backstory lore the amount of like.
[SPEAKER_01]: Traveler character creation that I've done sitting in my living room and there's something very exciting when you get it when you roll up a character that was born in like the void of space and like the idea of a character that was like raised on space stations and tiny hallways and is used to like crawling through vents and like half finished spaceship areas is it's got my wheels turning in a very big way.
[SPEAKER_03]: I I love that because I was looking at it.
[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, I really want one of us to be the void rat, but I don't want to choose that one.
[SPEAKER_03]: I did there was some some reason that it just wasn't quite quite clicking for me, but I wanted it to be here because yeah, it seemed so juicy.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think.
[SPEAKER_03]: with void rat in mind, I think I'm going to go with either the cowboy or the slicer, which are kind of like two sides of the coin where like the cowboy is very much like just powers through stuff.
[SPEAKER_03]: And then the slicer is, I'm prepared for things.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's that was my interpretation.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that feels right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Either of those feels like a really nice compliment to like a tiny, a tiny person like a, functionally like a wet behind the ears, kid trying to make it big.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so my question for you is which, which seems more fun, slicer where it's like older person compared to the void rat trying to, that's maybe trying to be a little bit more responsible, a little bit more protective of the younger person or cowboy.
[SPEAKER_03]: bad bad influence.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a really interesting dynamic that I'm really, really like flipping through reading through the slicer and thinking about specifically like this character that in my head like is predicated around like crawling through like tiny spaces and like being up in the guts of a spaceship.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's something very captivating to me about a slicer.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like almost a almost [SPEAKER_01]: With all of the, with all of the understanding of the structure of the show of someone that has seen exclusively CBS promos of it, almost that dynamic from like person of interest where there's like until like the computer guy and the action guy, you know what I mean?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, almost that dynamic of like I'm here because I know the machines.
[SPEAKER_01]: I need somebody who can run out and potentially get shot in the face.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I love that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, let's go for slicer and void rat.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, great.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we've got some initial stats that we've build out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got our starting arrays.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let me remind myself, like, how much what I'm adding to these character things.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is my notes, this is edited.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've added our, got my stats, gas starts at, [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, oh, I forgot that we have the shared screen, I can add stuff or starts it starts at why it starts at one of six.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, starts at one of six.
[SPEAKER_03]: I does it does it.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, goes from.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, god.
[SPEAKER_01]: I got to got it.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it is.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it starts at one of six.
[SPEAKER_01]: So every time you roll gas, if you roll your liberal your low number, it goes up and if it gets past, if it gets past, like, if it, if it, if you roll within that.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it starts at one, if we roll one more checking gas, then we run out of it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Then we up that number until we keep going and going and going, gosh, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: uh...
load already got loaded in cred upkeep upgrades uh...
didn't investments okay i think those are the only things that i need on my character at this moment and i've got my special moves cool okay uh...
so we've got a all right so we've got our characters uh...
built out you have an idea on my who your character is like a name of i bler the energy like what are you bring into the table [SPEAKER_03]: I was so a question, we think in more old guy more younger adult.
[SPEAKER_01]: I could go, I think I could go either way.
[SPEAKER_01]: What feels more exciting to you?
[SPEAKER_02]: I think I go for old guy.
[SPEAKER_02]: Old guy feels good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Old guy who's been...
Because the idea that this is such a legal profession makes old guy extremely captivating to me.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: Dude, I'm just fussing around with a voice real quick.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, hey, hey, oh, hey, oh, man fucking what's this is for a hanging out in the belt?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, sure.
[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's that's where it was good.
[SPEAKER_01]: That feels good.
[SPEAKER_01]: That feels very, very good.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can do this immediately like hearing that voice snaps this character into immediately into into view for me.
[SPEAKER_01]: And immediately I heard that voice and the image of AEW's Orange Cassidy or Paul Rudd from what Hot American and Summer popped into my head.
[SPEAKER_01]: Sun glasses are like the very critical element here of like.
[SPEAKER_01]: uh...
hot shot it's almost it's it's you know what it is uh...
those are the immediate reference points but i've identified the deeper like character dynamic and the the deeper reference point here [SPEAKER_01]: This is Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul Rearnup Paul [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go as far as a name I'm thinking uh...
what's it good quasars very good last name I always like the quasars a sick last name good ducks do you at ducks quasars uh...
because i look over and remember that i got some rubber duckies from a breweries and that's uh...
duck quasars a good sounding like [SPEAKER_01]: seemingly cool guy sci-fi name.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: I will go for, I've had the first name sign, S-I-N-E, in my brain.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, right, I feel the great first great sci-fi first name.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: San.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, my name's San.
[SPEAKER_03]: Trying to feel out like what would feed the sound that would go after that.
[SPEAKER_02]: San.
[SPEAKER_02]: San.
[SPEAKER_02]: Sun, something, something I can't remember anymore.
[SPEAKER_01]: Can I throw out the wildest, uh, yes, please.
[SPEAKER_01]: Sign Quasar also has a very good ring to it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Sun Quasar, name Sun Quasar and our wait.
[SPEAKER_02]: So was your last name also Quasar?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, but are we relatives?
[SPEAKER_01]: That's where my brain went.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they're suddenly real captivating about taking over the family business.
[SPEAKER_02]: I like that a lot, yes, sir.
[SPEAKER_03]: All right, maybe maybe I'm like great uncle or something like that.
[SPEAKER_01]: I I love a distant route like my brain immediately went farther, but like I love a distant relative where like either I sought you out or my family like hand it like handed me off to just right me out or like so I'm putting you in harm's way.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's something very almost, I, I, my brain jumps immediately to Futurama that dynamic of like, we are distant and related in some convoluted way and I'm just, I'm just really happy to be here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I love that.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's really good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Great.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see.
[SPEAKER_01]: Are we able to add me the text onto this?
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think so.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's the one thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can, I can, I can, I can, I can manually go and do it, which I will do here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I think I found it, if I go to edit table, I think there's a text.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, is, oh, you can also add something great.
[SPEAKER_01]: Perfect.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, sick.
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so we've got our characters.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got our dynamic.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get to know.
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, we should know a little bit about our ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: It won't necessarily come up in the like short story that we're playing here today, but like I always think it's valuable to know.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we've got three ship options.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got a, like, a discount option, the killed year, the jack doll, which is sort of more of a scrapper with a larger cargo bay.
[SPEAKER_01]: And or the albatross, which is like for long distance, like a long term travel.
[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want to go, Dylan, what do you think and I think this is I'm going to put this more into your hands because this feels like sign already had this ship When ducks rolled up on it like rolled up on him like this feels like this feels like your ship that I'm crashing in I if I was playing this game at home I would almost certainly choose the kill deer or the jackdog.
[SPEAKER_03]: The idea of having a ship called the albatross when you are trying to inherit like basically like a job from a company, type of business, a lifestyle from an older relative, just feels so fitting.
[SPEAKER_03]: Like when I retire or die, you just get our left with this albatross across your neck.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's great to me.
[SPEAKER_03]: So let's start with the limit.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love that.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like that a lot.
[SPEAKER_01]: I, what, and let me ask you like in character, like, what do you think drew sign to the album?
[SPEAKER_01]: Is it something that he already had owned for a long time?
[SPEAKER_01]: Is this like, was this a luxury purchase?
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what is what?
[SPEAKER_01]: Because I think that's going to tell us a little bit about who sign is, but also a little bit about like what our, uh, [SPEAKER_03]: I think that what happened is sign inherited.
[SPEAKER_03]: similar to what you are potentially setting up to do and herded this ship.
[SPEAKER_03]: And it's former crew from like a very successful person he used to work with maybe 10, 15 years ago.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's great.
[SPEAKER_03]: And over the years, he has just all of the crew has left him and like he has sold all of the [SPEAKER_03]: Broken this down to it's basically a brand new ship.
[SPEAKER_03]: There's like nothing There's nothing special about it anymore, but he's had to sell it all away just to like keep going.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's great.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I really like that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Nice place.
[SPEAKER_01]: Good stuff, okay, great.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we've got our ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got the Albatross.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got our characters.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think unless I'm missing something, it's time to us to figure out exactly what ship, so the building as a career is functionally, we go on to the wreckage of old ships that have been abandoned out in the void, and we loot them and find out what's inside.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's time for us to find out what bird we're cracking into today.
[SPEAKER_03]: Heck yeah, let's do it.
[SPEAKER_03]: All right, I'm looking for this, correct?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm going to have you roll a D6.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then I will also roll a D6.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that will tell us the tier of the ship and also the specific model of the ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let me know when you're ready.
[SPEAKER_01]: Give me that D6 roll.
[SPEAKER_01]: Four, all right, and I have rolled, also a four, great.
[SPEAKER_01]: What are we cooking on?
[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, Carla, I got to move you for just a minute.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure my cat's going to yell at my door pretty soon.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's part of the joy.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're not even editing that out.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's part of the magic.
[SPEAKER_01]: We love our cats.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're the part of the podcast and experience.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we have a tier one ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: And we rolled up four.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we are doing a merchant ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: Great.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a merchant ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: Where's our merchant ship?
[SPEAKER_01]: And now what's cool is that each deck plan like has a different options for it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So now that we've got that, we pick one of our, we pick one of our shells that is a tier one shell.
[SPEAKER_01]: And we just lay those cards out on the table.
[SPEAKER_01]: and so which of these options looks the best to us.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got the we've got a civilian station hopper.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, never mind wait.
[SPEAKER_01]: I got it backwards.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got we are pulling on the light cargo freighter.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I see it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Here's our options.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to start laying these out.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to start by taking our red and black jokers.
[SPEAKER_01]: And we're going to put these in into a pile and we're going to, how many cards is this one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven so nine cards out of our main deck.
[SPEAKER_03]: So listeners, what Jeff is doing right now is he is taking a set of cards, making a smaller deck out of a full deck of playing cards, then those cards are going to be shuffled and they're going to be laid out into the shape of a spaceship.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm going to grab a, I'm going to grab a, once we, once I've got in this demo that will grab a photo of it for you, the listeners that you see it beautiful.
[SPEAKER_01]: uh, because I love the aspect of physically laying out cards in a weird in a weird pattern.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's very, it's very satisfying.
[SPEAKER_01]: The more I read it, the more I was like, man, this has got this like this, even on playing cards.io now that I'm laying these cards out, like I'm like, this game's got the choose like this has the energy.
[SPEAKER_03]: I recently, recently, is in last summer, wrote a game called Hit Me.
[SPEAKER_03]: That is built off of playing cards.
[SPEAKER_03]: And it, I so want to play it because I feel like playing a teacher with playing cards would, it's just, it's so, it's so sad.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's so sad that the tactile element is just really magnificent.
[SPEAKER_03]: But I have not gone again, all right, four people.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we've got our ship laid out.
[SPEAKER_01]: We have our red Joker in front of us.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've grabbed a screenshot so that our lovely listeners will be able to see what we're cooking on.
[SPEAKER_03]: And our red Joker is going to be representing our airlock.
[SPEAKER_03]: And so we can choose where that lands, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so there is a chance that we blow up the payday, which is the thing that we're after.
[SPEAKER_01]: We put it on landing on the ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, where do you want to make pork if you want to go from the back of the ship forward front of the ship backwards you tell me old man.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, let's say you never want to approach an enemy from from the front.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a sign or bad trouble.
[SPEAKER_02]: You want to go from behind ambush it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Back of the ship, it is.
[SPEAKER_02]: It sounds like.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, sir.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we've got a flip of the coin left or right heads your tails.
[SPEAKER_02]: Are you actually.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, with my god, right.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to call it.
[SPEAKER_01]: You tell me that it's a failed.
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, a heads.
[SPEAKER_01]: You pick left or right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, boy, right.
[SPEAKER_02]: right it is uh here we go uh okay so we are planting our airlock here on the up and right before the front with you i'm glad that your pilot in ship right now because i definitely thought that was the tail but that was the head of the ship [SPEAKER_01]: Uh, that's a great question.
[SPEAKER_01]: What is the way we're already going away?
[SPEAKER_01]: We've already, we've already, we've already committed.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the, that is what we've decided is the tail of the ship.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're stuck.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's to face a bird and then turn tail.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's even worse than going for the head.
[SPEAKER_01]: Good idea.
[SPEAKER_01]: Good, good, good call.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're right.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is why this is why you're, this is why you're the man in charge, sign.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we planted our airlock.
[SPEAKER_01]: We had to do the I genuinely thought that was the friend, but I I don't think it actually matters this is the this is why this is one of the things about the game that I think as fun is that you've kind of got this like interpretive almost taro deck layout and then just sort of like pulling it because I saw two car these two car row at the top listen if you're looking at the image in my head that was two thrusters and I can absolutely see the back of that ship and also think that's two thrusters on the tail of the ship I learned those makes all the sense in the world.
[SPEAKER_03]: It was reading into my brain like a by playing a like a prop plane where the front was like a propeller The part that you thought were thrusters.
[SPEAKER_03]: I thought was a propeller But yeah Cheers makes sense.
[SPEAKER_01]: Incredible.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love this.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love it so much Um, god.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love I love games.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm getting energy.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now, remind me what we are now that we've planted our airlock I don't think we roll for gas immediately [SPEAKER_03]: Um, so there is a game flow cheat sheet on the very end of the book.
[SPEAKER_03]: So there's it all that up, uh, we've already set down, we've set down our airlock on any one of the bird's modules to begin exploring.
[SPEAKER_03]: So when you enter a module, so when we leave the airlock and go to the next static, we check our gas.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we've each got a character token.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I want to take, I'm going to take this one here because this, this, this, this, [SPEAKER_03]: I have been picturing my guy with a big beard, but no, you're totally right.
[SPEAKER_03]: Perfectly clean, shaving, except for this waxed mustache.
[SPEAKER_01]: Beautiful.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we now we're about to enter our first module, which means to go.
[SPEAKER_01]: You want to go, there's a few, there's a few places we can go from here.
[SPEAKER_01]: We can go to the other back corner.
[SPEAKER_03]: uh...
which i guess of what we decided is our other sort of back thruster we can sort of descend into the second wing level yeah well we don't have to move together uh...
that's a good point yeah um...
so i i think that because my you know my characters the older character and at least wants to be somewhat responsible he's probably going to take the first step uh...
unless you rush ahead [SPEAKER_03]: That feels right.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, that feels right.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I think he's going to go to the spot directly to like I move my token.
[SPEAKER_03]: I can.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to move over here to the left thruster.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a roll.
[SPEAKER_03]: Give us a roll for your gas roll for my gas roll for my gas.
[SPEAKER_01]: I wrote a six, that means the year you're still in it as long as you don't roll a one, you've still got plenty of gas and you have flipped the two of diamonds.
[SPEAKER_01]: So one of the cool things about this game that I think I would like for us to do is we each is there are two oracle books decorated with our character portraits.
[SPEAKER_01]: Do you have one of the two of those open in front of you?
[SPEAKER_03]: I have both of them opened.
[SPEAKER_03]: Let me figure out which one is mine so I can close the other one.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to flip through, if you want to read me responses out of Oracle B, I will read you a response and grab a Oracle A.
I love that.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this is two of diamonds.
[SPEAKER_01]: Two of diamonds diamonds are salvage.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: And things you can scrounge and sell.
[SPEAKER_01]: When you find salvage compared size to your remaining load, if it fits great, if not, you can make a few trips.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is the two of diamonds.
[SPEAKER_01]: if it were more enlightened age, we wouldn't need these, but it ain't, and we do.
[SPEAKER_03]: But this is Oracle beat.
[SPEAKER_03]: Would you like to go through?
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I went through.
[SPEAKER_03]: So, Oracle B.
Oh, you're right.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, so we'll have a little bit of an Oracle bit.
[SPEAKER_03]: This is [SPEAKER_03]: It's got to be after market don't you think that's ever seen an XL 320 before flash flash flash flash parts what is that okay so salvage mean extra loot Comparatized your remaining load if it fits great if not well you can always make a few trips So this is six load that's a lot that's a that's a big object [SPEAKER_03]: need to like I could we could we couldn't even carry that together like that's so I I watched a actual play from the creators of this game this afternoon and how they did it was if they had six and let's say they only had low capacity for two for one of the players that player would take two they would leave four on the thing and they could come back and get more if they [SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, then I'm going to mark uh, for not are you are you taking this and going back?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Then there are four notches remaining on the on the flash parts and I've got uh, to So I will actually move this.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I can take three.
[SPEAKER_03]: I can take three.
[SPEAKER_03]: You take three.
[SPEAKER_03]: You can.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: Nice.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I will take one.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[UNKNOWN]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[UNKNOWN]: I'm going.
[UNKNOWN]: I'm going.
[UNKNOWN]: I'm going.
[UNKNOWN]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going [SPEAKER_03]: All right, so I've got three load right now and I'll on the next turn when it's my next turn, I will move back over to the airlock.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you have grabbed all you have loaded up with this flash equipment.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is very lucky.
[SPEAKER_01]: Great pull right off the bat.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I'm going to roll for my gas and see where we end up.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a three.
[SPEAKER_01]: I already feel a tension of I already feel a tension rolling this dice for gas every turn that was immediately stressful and it says well it says not stressful is it's going to possibly be.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so now we're going to flip this card.
[SPEAKER_01]: What is the four of spades?
[SPEAKER_01]: Or a spades time Oracle A bad to fuck.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, what happened?
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, the lights.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, ducks walks into like ducks, like basically sees you start to grab equipment and like doesn't even look and starts walking down a hallway and it just hits black immediately all of the lights have gone out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I'm gonna have to roll the D6 here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, that's a six.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's great.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a good immediate character beat that ducks like duck.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is ducks is environment, right, ducks born and raised in these sorts of like cramped a little space stations walks into this dark hallway.
[SPEAKER_01]: I rolled a six.
[SPEAKER_01]: And just like a really effortlessly, really effortlessly sort of like cracks open a wall panel, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Like rips a panel off the wall, maybe even I think like God, there is some like extremely [SPEAKER_01]: extremely elaborate gymnastics that go into like fitting out puppies of gum in like out down through his like spaceship wiggling it into his hand like slipping it through like almost a vacuum seal to slit inside his suit so that it's out sticking the gum to like on it to a circuit and then the like flicker back on.
[SPEAKER_03]: I feel like sign sees this down the hallway through one of the the port doors to do this and does the very classic like king of the hill that way right.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yep, yep, yep, yep.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's great.
[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
[SPEAKER_03]: So it is my turn again.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm going to go back over to the airlock.
[SPEAKER_03]: How does that work?
[SPEAKER_03]: I remember airlock.
[SPEAKER_03]: You have to do something to like reopen it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking that up right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's an airlock is moved described on page 27.
[SPEAKER_01]: When you return to the airlock roll of D6, and then either you get in or something happens.
[SPEAKER_03]: All right, I will roll with these six.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, I have four, excuse me, because I'm a slicer, I have four gear, and so if I wanted to, I could use one of those gear to add one D6 to my roll.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not gonna do that right now, but I could.
[SPEAKER_01]: six.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're getting lucky.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was a really good.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was great.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're able to still what you've got and you can get right back to work.
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, it's take those three load, put them in our cargo.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then, and then we can then you can next turn move into a different room or come back to these flash parts and keep scrapping.
[SPEAKER_03]: Heck yes.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I'm going to, well, you figure out your next move.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to toss my load of, I'm going to move my load to the cargo section on the.
[SPEAKER_03]: Right there, how the trust there is.
[SPEAKER_03]: I see it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to use one of my special abilities.
[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, I've got an extra point of slow.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to flash some glow here and see what this room is.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going down that hallway.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad I did that because I don't want to go that hallway.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can use glow.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we can use glow at any time to like flip an adjacent card before we engage with a module.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_03]: And as the void right, you have two.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have an extra one.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I can do that twice.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to do that.
[SPEAKER_01]: One of my two times right now, flip that card and see that I am staring immediately down a sucker hole.
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, this is very ducks.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm getting a very clear picture of ducks as like kind of like sticks gum on a wire to flip lights.
[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of like, kind of even walking backwards, kind of proud of himself almost walks.
[SPEAKER_01]: Deals himself start to get pulled towards the void and goes, hmm, soccer hole, nevermind.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's gonna go in a different module room instead.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, man, that's excellent.
[SPEAKER_01]: that's another three.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a tent of diamonds.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get some scavenge.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what we want to say.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's the best possible use of glow is what that is.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, these are filter units and it glammers and it quick to fiddle them out of their housing, but these babies were what made life in the void possible, and they're still a little life in them, too.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I love the picture of I love the picture of ducks almost slipping out of a crack in the ship stumbling backwards finding the oxygen tubes and go and like that's why we do what we do.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's that's awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's good.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I've added too load to my my character and I'm going to head back into that room.
[SPEAKER_03]: Excellent.
[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I am going to, hmm, there's I'm already holding the airlock.
[SPEAKER_03]: I could use my turn, I believe, to hold the airlock open for you.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm just going to do that.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm going to wait wait for you to come back here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think then on my turn like I'm gonna I don't need to roll that means I don't need to roll gas I can just move these into R.
I can move these goodies into our ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a this is a hell of a haul old man We're doing great.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like this every single time.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's never not been like this.
[SPEAKER_01]: Please Stay well hell if it's this easy every time this might be a full time for me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Do you have [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to now that you're in the airlock.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to bounce back, which I have to roll for gas.
[SPEAKER_03]: Five, so I'm good.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to load up on my load.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm taking the last three things from that first room that I went into.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, accidentally clicked something bad.
[SPEAKER_01]: uh...
and now it is the end of my turn and i will hold that door right back open for you so you can slide back over without needing to use gas whether it's work this is a this is a good dynamic we got here we're doing really great right now this is amazing all right and so i'm gonna unload the load okay wow we have like almost filled up we've this is almost a successful haul i mean other than the payday which is still hopefully not been crushed by our airlock and that we still need to do some scavenging for [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, let's you know what let's yeah, let's friend go for a man.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's let's see if we can let's see if we can make this a success which would direct which which direction do you want ahead?
[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like a left has been doing me right.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_02]: Gonna go that way.
[SPEAKER_01]: Is it my turn or your turn?
[SPEAKER_01]: Your turn?
[SPEAKER_01]: Are you going left?
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll go right.
[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
[SPEAKER_03]: Six again.
[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
[SPEAKER_01]: Six again.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's lock in.
[SPEAKER_03]: No, I swear.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm lucky.
[SPEAKER_01]: We are speaking.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've had a lot of episodes where I have rolled absolute dog shit.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're now.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're now painted off.
[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.
[SPEAKER_01]: Roll your gas for your next move.
[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
[SPEAKER_03]: Do I want to do I want to do I want to do this?
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to use my glow to like look at one of the next two rooms.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm going to.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, not in there.
[SPEAKER_01]: What is it?
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, what are five of, remember what clubs are?
[SPEAKER_01]: What are clubs?
[SPEAKER_01]: Barriers.
[SPEAKER_01]: Barriers.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to do that.
[SPEAKER_01]: When you encounter a barrier, roll a D6 on a six, you successfully navigate the barrier on a four or five.
[SPEAKER_01]: Use a U, it's a dead end on a three, on a one to three.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're not going to make it.
[SPEAKER_03]: Nice.
[SPEAKER_03]: I, uh, I think I can just avoid that, right?
[SPEAKER_03]: Because I can just slide right over to the other one.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to slide straight over to the other one.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm going to have to roll gas.
[SPEAKER_03]: Are you fooling kidding me?
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, this is joker.
[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
[SPEAKER_03]: Payday.
[SPEAKER_03]: What the heck?
[SPEAKER_03]: What are we doing here?
[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to get to play downtime mechanics.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's insane.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, I rolled a three three is fine, right?
[SPEAKER_03]: Three is fine.
[SPEAKER_03]: Awesome.
[SPEAKER_03]: All right, so I am, I found the payday, um, payday.
[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, what happens when you find the payday?
[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, look that up.
[SPEAKER_03]: When you encounter the payday roll of D6.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm rolling a D6.
[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, I'm going to use, can I use, I can use my gear to bump that up to two D6, right?
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, you can.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, you can.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to do that.
[SPEAKER_03]: Why the heck not?
[SPEAKER_01]: And then you choose the highest of the results.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, ha, ha, ha, ha, three.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, three is the high result.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's three is the high result.
[SPEAKER_03]: What is that?
[SPEAKER_01]: You.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the carepader you came for has already been stripped, broken beyond repair, or has come to unusual or dangerous to transport.
[SPEAKER_01]: Ignore the pick list, continuing without a payday, or spend a grit to salvage the payday by using it as normal.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I'm gonna spend a grit.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, let's go.
[SPEAKER_01]: uh...
yet so i spent a great so i'm salvaging it is normal uh...
yes what does that mean uh...
okay uh...
roll me i'm gonna roll uh...
three d six and that will tell us what we're looking at uh...
yes we are looking at a primary buffer regulator and it's right here's a primary buffer regulator [SPEAKER_02]: That sounds expensive, if it is expensive.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's so expensive, it's probably more expensive than we actually have room for.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would assume if I correct.
[SPEAKER_02]: That is correct.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, so what happens?
[SPEAKER_01]: So I got to confirm something real quick.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you've spent a grid and salvaged the payday.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, okay, wait, this was spending grid has specific rules that we need to work out here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, because when you spend a grid to make something a success, what does it do?
[SPEAKER_01]: It turns a failed role into a mix success.
[SPEAKER_01]: Great, because I remember right now that like, we're going to find a lot of things out very quickly.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we got our primary buffer regulator.
[SPEAKER_01]: Two of the following list of choices are going to be true about this object.
[SPEAKER_01]: You don't need to spend a point of grit to remove it.
[SPEAKER_01]: You don't need to check gas to remove it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Removing it will not cause the ship to come apart.
[SPEAKER_01]: You do not attract unwanted attention.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can transport the payday in one trip regardless of size or it is worth more than you first imagine.
[SPEAKER_01]: What pages of song again?
[SPEAKER_01]: This is on page 26 in the book.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to choose two of these options.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to choose two of these options on this list.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then crucially, the opposite of everything else, the opposite of everything else comes true immediately, which is great.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hi, like this because all of these options are like, well, obviously, I feel like I don't want to pull up the ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, I don't want to threat.
[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, I don't want to burn my gas.
[SPEAKER_03]: Man, what do we want to do here?
[SPEAKER_03]: man this this has become perilous so quickly this changes so much so quickly we could have left no no no no no no dice okay um what are you you pick one and all pick one yeah that's something that sounds good uh I know the one I'm picking [SPEAKER_03]: So I would need to spend another grit in order to remove it, right?
[SPEAKER_03]: That is correct.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then that would be your last grit which would also trigger a threat.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm gonna say, you don't need to spend a grit to remove it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then I have said, it's worth more than you first imagine.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's now six load, but worth six credit.
[SPEAKER_04]: Get these credit on here.
[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I grabbed the whole stack.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's why four or five, grab one more, one more of these guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this is worth six.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is now worth six credit six load, but we only need to.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then one of our cargo filled out, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: So actually we have our cargo a third of the way filled out each subsequent tier unlocks the other smaller ones cargo capacity.
[SPEAKER_01]: So our cargo capacity is 30.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, wow.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I thought that we were actually never 10.
[SPEAKER_01]: Crucially.
[SPEAKER_01]: We have, I think, seven dead.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like we are in the fucking red.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: Because seven dead is worth 70 credit.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm explaining to audience, not to you.
[SPEAKER_03]: Just say that.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I got you.
[SPEAKER_00]: I got you.
[SPEAKER_03]: Cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, man.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so that means that if we activate this thing, uh, the following things happen, you're going to need to check gas to remove it.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to have to roll the ship breaker move.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to generate a threat.
[SPEAKER_01]: But you can carry the entire thing in one trip.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Or no, you can't, you have to make multiple trips to get it to get it to your destination.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, if we want the whole thing, which will only be two trips because I've got a lot of load.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you've got more load.
[SPEAKER_03]: Um, okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: So that means we immediately have to the ship has to immediately come apart and the the threat has to immediately arrive.
[SPEAKER_01]: That is correct.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh boy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh boy.
[SPEAKER_01]: That is correct.
[SPEAKER_03]: Let's see what happens when we activate the threat and I will pull up the ship breaking apart.
[SPEAKER_03]: Great.
[SPEAKER_01]: Glad that we, I'm glad that we specifically said it's going to be all the things that make the the scariest and most terrifying options immediately.
[SPEAKER_03]: We all know really wanted to see what it how it changed.
[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks.
[SPEAKER_03]: This is the problem with playing the game for the first time.
[SPEAKER_03]: You're like, I want to know what the cool stuff is.
[SPEAKER_01]: And honestly, I'm very glad we did because it did immediately up my stress level.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So much.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want to roll a ship breaker move first?
[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want me to roll the threat move first?
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, let's do the threat move because I think there's some talk, there's some situations where something would enter the ship and I'm interested in seeing, you know, what will happen whether we get trapped with a potential threat or we get saved from a potential threat by the ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: So at this moment, we hear a crash.
[SPEAKER_01]: We hear a crash upon the ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: we hear like a distinctly familiar sounding like latching noise like hooks hooking onto the side of the ship.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh man.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh people are making an entrance.
[SPEAKER_01]: We have been we have been greeted by rival scavengers.
[SPEAKER_01]: You seem like a good sort, Belter.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's vanishing rare out here.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's plenty of Belters who'd come to blows with you over the juicer birds and it seems like you've got a bunch of them on board with you right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Keep your [SPEAKER_03]: Can we say that these are the crew that I inherited and then oh, that's right.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yep, for 400% oh, man, not again.
[SPEAKER_03]: All right, and next thing we have to do is roll to see how the ship breaks or is that is that the end of that.
[SPEAKER_03]: Do you need to do anything else.
[SPEAKER_01]: roll 1d6 again to determine their starting position.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I go back to the ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're here.
[SPEAKER_01]: tier one merchant class is this guy right he wait so yep that's the one okay they are entering where are they entering at they are entering at I believe point oh no [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no [SPEAKER_03]: for people listening, that is the space that I just left, the space that is directly between the payday and the airlock.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_04]: No.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: And now I've got to roll how the ship breaks.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_03]: Now we roll the ship breaker move.
[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
[SPEAKER_03]: I've got 1d6.
[SPEAKER_03]: four.
[SPEAKER_03]: So the the thing that I thought was the tail breaks off and goes moves down.
[SPEAKER_03]: I believe.
[SPEAKER_03]: And so now if we if we had been stuck down there, we would have had to do a space walk.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: Fortunately, we have not gone down there at all.
[SPEAKER_03]: As far as we know, there is some cool [SPEAKER_02]: It's not worth it, it's not worth it at this point.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, more important things to deal with old man.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're not going to.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh boy, boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think that would make it your turn next correct.
[SPEAKER_01]: Which means that I am going to.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm spending, I've got a point of glow left.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm spending my other glow.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, where's it?
[SPEAKER_01]: were totally worth it, uh, totally worth it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm spending a point at glow.
[SPEAKER_01]: I just want to know.
[SPEAKER_01]: I just want to fuck.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's exactly what I was afraid.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly what I was afraid of.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's amazing.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's amazing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly what I was afraid of.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's the aid of diamonds, which is.
[SPEAKER_01]: uh...
what is good what is the eight of diamonds give us uh...
uh...
oh it's survival gear it's load four oh that's what i was afraid of uh...
really really what i was afraid of uh...
that's juicy next at the oxygen tubes there's four four credits or four load worth of stuff here and i think that ducks is exactly the kind of person that is going to like [SPEAKER_01]: see that even hearing people like cocking or charging up laser put laser rifles a few rooms over.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, roll my gas.
[SPEAKER_03]: Is I've been telling I've been telling you this is easy.
[SPEAKER_03]: I've been telling you that this is good and this is how it always goes.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is always going great.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's going great.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have no reason to doubt that.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to slide on over here, which means I also draw card from our own disc from this deck.
[SPEAKER_01]: The two of spades.
[SPEAKER_01]: What happens on the spades?
[SPEAKER_01]: How do they move on the spades?
[SPEAKER_01]: hot.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, that's good for me.
[SPEAKER_01]: Not really because that the glutes of my direction is going to be blocked in the air.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, they moved to the airlock.
[SPEAKER_01]: Crap.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I really, I think there's a moment where we can hear it.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a small enough ship where we can hear it.
[SPEAKER_01]: They see the airlock.
[SPEAKER_01]: They recognize hour.
[SPEAKER_01]: They recognize the albatross and we hear one of them the other room go.
[SPEAKER_01]: Is that [SPEAKER_01]: That fucking sign quays our ship, are you fucking kidding me?
[SPEAKER_01]: Man, I'll chase.
[SPEAKER_01]: We got more business here than a payday.
[SPEAKER_01]: Get ready.
[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, laser pistols charge up.
[SPEAKER_01]: Do we have comms?
[SPEAKER_01]: I think we have comms.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think we can communicate.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, you might want to keep your head down, please.
[SPEAKER_01]: You got into the ship already, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Not if you're lying.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, not if you're lying.
[SPEAKER_01]: I lied, tie, I lied.
[SPEAKER_01]: I remembered something of the last minute.
[SPEAKER_01]: You have to roll gas.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I have to roll gas.
[SPEAKER_01]: Coms, uh, you can protect gas and take a second.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's specifically for if somebody has failed a roll.
[SPEAKER_01]: We can, I think we can communicate freely, but you can jump on the comms in a panic.
[SPEAKER_01]: uh you can jump on your combs in a panic uh if need be and by checking gas as though the other person had spent grit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Gotcha okay cool cool cool cool cool cool so that's specifically a co-op move to like help out somebody else uh ducks gets on the gets on combs is it gonna make you feel better if I say that I got on the ship or not?
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh this is okay [SPEAKER_02]: Just let's get on the ship as quickly as possible, but it sounds like they're in the way of the ship, so maybe we'll lead them away from it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Something, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who, who [SPEAKER_01]: So you need, you can refill.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that we just react to it unless I am missing something.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that we just react to it if we end up in the same place.
[SPEAKER_01]: They will attack us.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, I think this is what is gonna happen right now.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think that, [SPEAKER_03]: I think I'm going to use this turn to start removing the pay day, which I think requires me to use gas and means I can't like go elsewhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: I believe I think I'm going to I'm going to do the same thing on my turn with this gear stuff that I'm looking at I'm taking to to to load out of this I'm going to roll fuck gas is going to go up by one.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think I've really been flipantly doing so much that I'm not even really paying attention to my gas meter.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, so when I revealed the pay day, but actually taking the pay day requires a gas roll, correct?
[SPEAKER_03]: That is correct.
[SPEAKER_03]: And so since it's on my turn, will that also trigger the two gas rolls?
[SPEAKER_03]: This is how I'm interpreting that.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it's it's one to move into a room.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's one to move into a room and it's an additional gas.
[SPEAKER_01]: So to take this into your load is going to require a gas roll.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's how I read it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this would require two gas rolls at some point to get all six all six load into your equipment.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, uh, but right now because I'm I'm already in the room.
[SPEAKER_03]: It only cost me one to like that is correct to to load up on stuff.
[SPEAKER_03]: Gotcha.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I got a five, so I'm able to load up.
[SPEAKER_03]: I got half of the load of the payday, which is three in, you know, on the right now.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm assuming that because that's my turn, the threat reacts correct.
[SPEAKER_01]: I believe that is correct.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let me just give it one quick scan.
[SPEAKER_01]: I believe that is correct.
[SPEAKER_01]: And I believe specifically what happens.
[SPEAKER_03]: is I'm pulling up the threat information so you're not having to look through this on your own.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I believe it's every time you, every time you transit a module.
[SPEAKER_01]: Every time you transit a module.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it doesn't activate on your turn because you haven't exited the module yet.
[SPEAKER_01]: Gotcha.
[SPEAKER_01]: When we jump between rooms, which I'm about to do to draw them closer to my location to give you an opening to get the fuck to the spaceship.
[SPEAKER_01]: Gotcha.
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Remember that thing, you said earlier about wanting to do stuff because it's fun, uh, uh, you can spacewalk between any two modules near us on the other provided you can draw straight or diagonal line between them and they're separated by empty space.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh.
[SPEAKER_01]: I am calling their attention.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to.
[SPEAKER_01]: Space walk here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Romantic six.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a five.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna draw one card from the unused portion of our deck that is the King of Hearts.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you draw a red card, you can bridge the gap, but it's gonna cost you something.
[SPEAKER_01]: Use a resource grid gear or check gas.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've got enough gas, I'm gonna check gas.
[SPEAKER_03]: Nice.
[SPEAKER_01]: I wanna call out, I should have done that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, literally should not have done that.
[SPEAKER_01]: That was a two, which puts me up to three gaps out the gas one, two, three.
[SPEAKER_03]: I want to call out the fact that the reason that I had my person check the, you know, remove the payday is because I thought that would trigger the threat to potentially start moving in my direction, clearing the airlock for his great nephew.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I love the idea that, you know, he's making all this noise doing all this tech stuff on one side of the ship, and then you just like blow out a window and go for a spacewalk and then all the people, the people that have just boarded are like, what's that and completely go in your direction.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, and so then I have to roll gas a second time because I'm arriving at a new module.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, gosh.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a six.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're good.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: But also I flipped a jack of jack of spades, which is not the thing that I wish that I'd fly.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, boy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Ever seen a fire in null gravity.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, yes, I know.
[SPEAKER_01]: I landed this I land at this ship broken room of fire erupts and I am trapped inside of this room.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to have to move to a different room to get out of out of this crumbling slowly drifting away half of the ship.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, geez.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh gosh.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see how let's see how our scavengers react.
[SPEAKER_01]: That is a club club gives us moves twice in your direction.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so they're going to come down this way and try and try to get to the exposed area of the ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I've done what I needed to do, which would give you a clearance to get to get back to where you need to go.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, so I'm going to move in the direction of the airlock.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm feeling like I've got to.
[SPEAKER_03]: I've got to lighten the load if I'm going to help you in any way.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, right.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm I'm moving over one space.
[SPEAKER_03]: Let me check gas for I'm fine.
[SPEAKER_03]: Now it's your turn.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now it's the threat certain.
[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they're going to move one space in your direction.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they're going to come up here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, it's your turn.
[SPEAKER_01]: I believe right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's my turn, which means I have there's only one space.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't go.
[SPEAKER_01]: Eight of spades.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm running out of gas.
[SPEAKER_01]: Fuck.
[SPEAKER_01]: Fuck.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm up to one to four.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm running out of gas.
[SPEAKER_03]: Fuck.
[SPEAKER_03]: Listen, uh, he jeth landed on the right side of a row of three cards.
[SPEAKER_03]: There was only one direction.
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, a mass breach.
[SPEAKER_01]: You have found the teething heart of the ship's waste management system and its pipes have all burst to hell and the absence of constant maintenance, everything in these old birds goes to shit on intended.
[SPEAKER_01]: Ha ha.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, this is, this is not, and I go, well, I'm so glad that we started this off going like this is easy, easy game because I can cross the module, but my upkeep for the trip just went up by two [SPEAKER_01]: uh I've jumped out of a spaceship walk through a fire into a puddle and he'll just a floating cloud of shit and now I've got to try and like space walk back to my old location back to my ship again.
[SPEAKER_03]: You're not going to do that.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're not going to check out the last location.
[SPEAKER_01]: two squares closer to where I'm at do you think that means that they jump you think that means they jump or do they just come here?
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know does does it say anything about whether threat goes into the what is a ship breaker move say threats every time you transit them a ship breaker roll D6 uh [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like that problem, as long as it's still in play, I think I would, I think it's more fun if they are, if they are like hurtling towards me, especially because that also, again, a conflict, it does accomplish what ducks is after, which is buying you time to get the payday loaded up.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so they're in the air, either you know, they are in the room with me, which means I roll a D6.
[SPEAKER_01]: Not great.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then the, all of the bad roles are coming back to us now.
[SPEAKER_01]: No way.
[SPEAKER_01]: What is it?
[SPEAKER_04]: What is it?
[SPEAKER_01]: What is it?
[SPEAKER_01]: What is it?
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm spending a grit.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm spending a grit.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've got grit to spend.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not, I'm not losing everything that we have scavenged here today.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, absolutely not.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have to leave behind.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've got load on me.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can get out of here, but not without leaving something behind.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have left load in this location.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: Good job.
[SPEAKER_01]: Great.
[SPEAKER_01]: But you know what?
[SPEAKER_01]: This is giving us some turns of phrase that are frankly priceless.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have to leave some of the like survival equipment here to distract them while I sneak off, which means it's back to your turn.
[SPEAKER_03]: Awesome.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to move over to the airlock moving to the airlock.
[SPEAKER_03]: I roll.
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't roll gas because I'm moving to the airlock.
[SPEAKER_03]: I just roll to open the airlock.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's like an airlock move.
[SPEAKER_01]: Four.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that is a mix success on the airlock move.
[SPEAKER_01]: Page 27.
[SPEAKER_01]: Choose [SPEAKER_01]: One of the nothing parts in your airlock burns out.
[SPEAKER_01]: It'll take your credit to fix and increase our upkeep by one.
[SPEAKER_01]: You'll need to improvise a storage solution and spend a gear.
[SPEAKER_01]: You'll need to take some time to get things stored and check your gas.
[SPEAKER_01]: Or the airlock gives a lurch and tears away from the ship you're done for the day.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, not that, I'm gonna, I think I'm gonna spend a gear.
[SPEAKER_03]: I've got four, now I have, now I have two left.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, just spend a gear.
[SPEAKER_01]: uh, I'm doing it again.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've got a clean shot.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have drawn them away.
[SPEAKER_01]: I draw.
[SPEAKER_01]: We should draw for the thread.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're right.
[SPEAKER_01]: You moved rooms.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they've drawn a heart.
[SPEAKER_01]: What happens on a heart?
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, it moves once towards your airlocks.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they are going to, I'm going to put this, I'm going to have them take this with or I think that means I'm going to say that that means they take this, they take this stuff with them and jump back towards [SPEAKER_02]: They're like, it's not sun kind of thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, they see that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they see that and they're like, this is some punk kid.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get the, let's get the big pay day and that's great because then I'm going to check gas.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I'm, I'm space.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing even more spacewalking.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, gosh.
[SPEAKER_01]: Even more spacewalking.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go terrifying.
[SPEAKER_01]: Roll D6.
[SPEAKER_03]: So basically, if you roll a four or lower, [SPEAKER_03]: bump up towards running out of more gas right that is because we're supposed to get a five or six.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a five or six.
[SPEAKER_01]: I have to get a five or six.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to roll my gas and see what happens Fuck me fuck me I'm at five gas Okay, now I'm going to roll D6 the space walk That's that can't be Okay, I got a one oh no [SPEAKER_01]: Why do I do I use my other point of grit?
[SPEAKER_01]: I got three grit.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm good.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm good.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna use them.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna use another grit.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna draw card all of the stress is gotten here now.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, okay, okay, I'm this is just going to linger, okay, if you draw if you're wall space walking and draw three while I throw a draw three black cards before you draw a red card or roll a six.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's over.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, but I've at least made it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can draw diagonal line, which means I'm getting to our to the rest of our gear.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, man.
[SPEAKER_03]: I wasn't even thinking about that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, well, I'm time.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a diamond, which means that they just, they're spending time scavenging this room, which is, which is helpful for us.
[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just going to stay at the airlock and keep it open.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, check.
[SPEAKER_01]: You, I read through.
[SPEAKER_01]: You check gas every turn while you're holding the airlock open.
[SPEAKER_01]: Gotcha.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to take that.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to roll gas.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to roll gas.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to roll gas to grab one of these pieces of gear.
[SPEAKER_01]: Five.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to put me to six.
[SPEAKER_01]: I got to go.
[SPEAKER_01]: I got to go quick.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I guess I just I'm going to keep go fuck.
[SPEAKER_01]: I, I, I, I, there's, what's it?
[SPEAKER_01]: Is there co, I feel like there's a co-op move specifically to keep me alive.
[SPEAKER_03]: I might need you to come get the, the calm thing or what there is something.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's buddy breathe as long as you're transiting modules together, you can both breathe off of a single tank of O2.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think I'm getting on comms.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, hey, uh, a old man.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm I'm on my way.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm here.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can hear it.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's thank you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's my turn.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_01]: Give me that role.
[SPEAKER_01]: six.
[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, here's what I love about this.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love that this is developing a story that you are act that the thing that you have that I have brushed off is that you are exceptionally good at like managing that oxygen level.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: They are all the the the scavengers are busy like dealing with this with what's been lost in this suck hole.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so like we are like I'm still here which means you can move again.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not moving because I can't I'm not [SPEAKER_03]: Not die perfect perfect.
[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm going to pop pop over to join you at the payday.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to roll.
[SPEAKER_03]: Six.
[SPEAKER_03]: Did you want to put.
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, you were at the airlock.
[SPEAKER_03]: Did you want to move.
[UNKNOWN]: You could.
[UNKNOWN]: I think we can move this gear.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah [SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can move this three gear into our into the ship, which means you've got enough space to load up on stuff while you're here.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I forgot, yeah, I forgot to take my load out.
[SPEAKER_03]: I had said, I believe I said that I did that earlier.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, do you want to check gas and load up these last two pieces?
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah, but you just have to roll when you're taking the payday.
[SPEAKER_01]: I swear to God, it's all your pet are managing oxygen that I am, which means that now we're going to move in unison because I'm moving with you, which means you're going to roll it for gas twice every time we share the every time we shift rooms, which means it also means, okay, they're going to move too closer to us, which means I think they're [SPEAKER_01]: There weren't a way for us.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so roll me gas twice.
[SPEAKER_01]: Great.
[SPEAKER_01]: What was that?
[SPEAKER_01]: Roll me gas twice.
[SPEAKER_01]: Five.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Four.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, give me two more gas rolls and we're home free.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, my God.
[SPEAKER_01]: Do we have to open the airlock as well?
[SPEAKER_01]: We do.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I can open the airlock.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you roll me, uh, uh, actually, yeah, we don't need to roll gas.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just roll me a D6 to open in the airlock.
[SPEAKER_03]: I just rolled a two.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: which does not work, right?
[SPEAKER_03]: I do, I could spend gear to make that, so that I could roll two dice.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: Two.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, what else can we do here?
[SPEAKER_01]: So that means that we're gonna choose two of the following options.
[SPEAKER_01]: We can make it a costly fix.
[SPEAKER_01]: Here's my here's the thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: One of these options is that the airlock gives a lurch and we float away, which is it seems like actually the best case scenario for us.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you could check your gas, you can spend a gear or we can spend an extra point of upkeep.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just, let's just float away, man.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, wait, so.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And what's the other, what's the other cost that this is going to take?
[SPEAKER_01]: Some gear.
[SPEAKER_01]: OK, yeah, great.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've got plenty.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's so much gear.
[SPEAKER_01]: This was tremendously successful.
[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
[SPEAKER_01]: So part of this converted to CRED, which is 1, 2, 3, 4, which is 10, which is 15 CRED, 15 CRED.
[SPEAKER_01]: 15 credit make a bank we're each going to make a bank roll.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a two.
[SPEAKER_01]: Three.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I believe that means that we neither are offered extended credit nor do we go further into debt.
[SPEAKER_01]: Great, no change.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so our debt is our, oh, no, wait.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've got a compound interest because I forgot we have seven debt.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, actually, I guess that's a really good question.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure both.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think both of us, I think we can have the role that which means that you're able to three.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, great.
[SPEAKER_01]: So our deck increases by one point because of because I rolled it too.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, which means that we've got eight debt, which is not ideal.
[SPEAKER_03]: Fun fact.
[SPEAKER_03]: The slicer has a debt move, which I think is like a penalty you get when you get a certain amount of debt.
[SPEAKER_03]: Mostly duck, it take duct tape and prayer.
[SPEAKER_03]: When you have nine debt, you lose the benefit of your cannibalized move, which is another move I have.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm never getting around teasing.
[SPEAKER_03]: So we're [SPEAKER_03]: very close to it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm also very close to having to sell all of our ship upgrades to reduce debt.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, great.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we've got 15 cred that we can spend upkeep costs are as follows.
[SPEAKER_01]: What do we spend on upkeep?
[SPEAKER_01]: uh upkeep.
[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone starts with three to seven based upkeep depending on the size of the ship that we chose at the start.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's look at our ships starting upkeep.
[SPEAKER_01]: I believe it is three.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to get rid of three of these for sheer upkeep.
[SPEAKER_01]: Plus was it one for cleaning costs.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was one for cleaning costs.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: almost positive, that's what it was.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that means that we can get rid of we've got enough to get rid of a debt and also keep an extra credit or we can just rack up the debt and spend some spend some shit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's spend some shit.
[SPEAKER_01]: But also this was a merchant ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, what does that mean?
[SPEAKER_01]: That means that because this is a tier one and this was the easiest of the ships, we get an extra one one credit.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we have 12 credit.
[SPEAKER_01]: uh...
twelve credit eight debt we can pay down our debt by one point which would match the of what we've accrue to the interest uh...
how much would cost for an oil and upgrade cost now we get to do a shopping trip which i think is a very good end of uh...
[SPEAKER_01]: end of the episode.
[SPEAKER_03]: I feel like I feel like, you know, this this storyline that we've spun up of me of sign showing ducks, you know, trying to like impress up on him that this is a great experience.
[SPEAKER_03]: This is a good time.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think you would definitely want to splurge to showcase like this is good, right?
[SPEAKER_03]: And make it fun at the end.
[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, let's shop away.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, what would a, what would a shuttle get us?
[SPEAKER_01]: What could we get from a shuttle?
[SPEAKER_01]: That might be a really useful thing to have.
[SPEAKER_01]: What, what page is that on?
[SPEAKER_01]: Shuttle is on page.
[SPEAKER_01]: The list of upgrades and services is on page 11.
[SPEAKER_01]: A shuttle takes us to page 55.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I think, I mean, I think, like, it's expensive, but I do think that given what ducks went through, it'd be really nice to have a shuttle.
[SPEAKER_01]: It would also be really nice to have improved comms because we went through some shit.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we were kind of running wild.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a few options that we can, we can work with here.
[SPEAKER_03]: How much do these?
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, and it says where they, how much they cost on 51, that you said.
[SPEAKER_03]: Shuttle is 10 cred and as we have how much a 12th total of credit.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's, that's Shuttle feels a little rich for my blood.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: What are you feeling?
[SPEAKER_01]: Improved comms would be immediately useful for us like that would be immediately useful for us that would allow us to It's it's our co-op specific thing that would allow us to Check gas and add an extra d6 to defeat a problem as though we spent gear at any time so like that would put us in close communication at all times, which might be really really useful.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I, I like that a lot and then we have enough for like something else that cost 8 credit and there's a lot of things that cause 8 credit.
[SPEAKER_01]: But there's also my other things I might also really like an an egress kit and egress kit, uh, given the fact that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I walked through a cloud of shit today, and I would have really liked the ability to just sort of float back to the airlock and be hit late.
[SPEAKER_01]: That would have been really fantastic.
[SPEAKER_02]: That sounds good.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, you can never do this to wrong with a crab, maybe.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's that's well.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's 12 points.
[SPEAKER_01]: A crab, maybe an egress kit and comms is 12 points.
[SPEAKER_01]: The bank's not going to be happy because we spent everything that we made today, but you know what?
[SPEAKER_01]: Just means that we're going to make it just means we go to a bigger ship for next time and as ducks kicks back like pops on his sunglasses we float away and I get to reveal something extra ordinarily funny.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, tell me the final visual that we see as sign and ducks float away is a single blinking red light.
[SPEAKER_01]: And behind us looming.
[SPEAKER_01]: is a science-old business partner, so floating just out of range.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because when the rival scavengers reach your airlock, they plant a tracer on your ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: And when you head to your next job, they'll be there waiting.
[SPEAKER_01]: Which means that wherever we end up next, they will be there waiting for.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's so good.
[SPEAKER_03]: I read that what I was reading the rules and I completely, man, that's so good.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's so fucking good.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love and I didn't realize that all of the threats have rules for what happens if they reach your airlock.
[SPEAKER_01]: There will be a lot of that.
[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, your ship, that fucking rip.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's awesome.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, all of these are very, very fucking I know they're all great because they all like fuck up your future plans.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, baby, this this game has got the juice.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is this is energetic.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, man, I okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: Let's speak of that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about it because I got a lot of thoughts.
[SPEAKER_03]: I said before when we started this that when I was reading through the rules initially this game was not clicking with me it just wasn't like I just I just normally when I'm when I'm looking for a solo game which this is initially originally intended as a solo game I'm looking for something that's a little bit.
[SPEAKER_03]: uh, more open-ended, um, a little bit more of the class that could journal soloing game.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's what I, I gravitate towards.
[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, and, and it wasn't really clicking to me, the, [SPEAKER_01]: like how much this would feel this would give me the the feeling that I want from a TTRBG, but it totally did it totally managed to land there and it's so funny here you say that because I kind of feel like I feel very satisfied having come from the opposite perspective of like this is to me the ideal of what I want a solo game to feel like which is like a clear [SPEAKER_01]: very well defined like game peace element uh yeah this does the thing that a lot of my favorite games my beloved dear irons worn does very well and thousand year old vampire even as a journaling game does which is like [SPEAKER_01]: it feels like it is a game first and like the tactics of it and the tension of it and boy howdy that death spiral as my oxygen started to run out was fucking thrilling.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes definitely it is definitely a game that has like just the right amount of [SPEAKER_03]: build up into a story, just naturally as you're going, the Oracle Decks, I think we're pretty solid too.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the Oracle Decks, I really like they pop, they really, really pop, the experience of the joy.
[SPEAKER_01]: I think like the moment that really hit me was when we flipped that black Joker.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And found that payday, uh, the immediate excitement of like holy shit.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's the payday.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like we found it.
[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't break it.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not buried under our airlock.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then the sort of like, I say, don't dread is the word I would use at looking at all of the options [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, like none of it was going to work out well for us, even it like the fact that you find the payday in his like game changing and you're like, oh, yeah, let's go and then you look at the list of options and you're like, even if I roll a six things are going to be very bad immediately.
[SPEAKER_01]: Chef's guess.
[SPEAKER_01]: Chef's guess.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_03]: I feel like my I've had some experience with some solo games where it has felt too open-ended.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I feel like this has [SPEAKER_03]: made me realize that like I has made me think like I should reevaluate some of the things that I've dismissed in the past.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think that I could find a lot of fun with this type of game.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this one really, this really hit.
[SPEAKER_01]: What was your favorite moment from play?
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh boy.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think it was the cascading failure.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think it was the I know that we could have chosen to not have it be [SPEAKER_03]: to not have it be a break and a threat happening.
[SPEAKER_03]: But I really liked how that worked.
[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't do.
[SPEAKER_01]: I really liked the feeling of, oh, something, the ship's gonna break and a threat is gonna be here and we are in a corner.
[SPEAKER_01]: All of those things that are row really sad is why.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I really liked that your decision to, maybe this is in the rules, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_03]: But I liked that we divvyed up that choice.
[SPEAKER_03]: So if either of one of us had wanted to be more protective of the situation, we could have done that.
[SPEAKER_03]: But we both just leaned in, really, let's go for the excitement of this.
[SPEAKER_01]: that was fully just I saw two options and I was like it's more interesting if we did we if we split it up but the the way that that worked was so satisfying and it kind of gave that sense of like if even if both of us had played it very close to chess we still would have been in a like kind of a really bad situation and there's something really satisfying about that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, this game rip.
[SPEAKER_01]: This was a, this was a real joy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for playing this with me.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you for.
[SPEAKER_03]: Wait, can I just, I want to shout out one other moment.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah, please, a bit of strategy.
[SPEAKER_03]: I really loved the us on opposite sides of the ship and sort of drawing the threat back and forth between that was so good.
[SPEAKER_03]: That felt so good.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't really satisfying like that was really that was really like good and like that got into like a really tactical feeling of like oh like we're in it and we are like it pulled me out of I guess the roleplay of it but like the the tactical joy of it it felt like [SPEAKER_01]: It felt like what I get out of tactics map-based, like tradition-trad games is like being like, well, if I move here, I can, like, that the, the domino effects there were incredible.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, definitely.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, this ruled.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, thank you again.

[SPEAKER_03]: Don't play this game.
[SPEAKER_03]: I did a Halloween episode of that, which was very, I don't know, it's very fun, it's very cool.
[SPEAKER_03]: Sure, go back, find that episode.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's maybe, you'll see it, it's well-marked.
[SPEAKER_03]: I haven't been shown yet.
