Speaker 1This is Trek Cast, the galaxy Maybe Unpredictable Star Trek podcast.
Today on the show, we're going to talk about Star Trek Insurrection.
Plus we've got Star Trek News and your listener feedback.
I am Scott Boucher's and now the guy who pushes the buttons.
Speaker 3It's Daniel Reyes.
Uh.
Speaker 4We're hard starting our our third crew member.
So we just decided to go.
Speaker 3We just decided to go.
Speaker 4Yeah, and h you know, you can join us.
Speaker 1Late.
Speaker 4I realized as we were doing this, I'm the only one that cannot be hard started because.
Speaker 3You cannot be hard started.
Speaker 4Yeah, we can't hard start, Daniel.
Nope, Nope, I've got the got the warpfield bubble around me.
I'm gonna go.
We can't hard start even with the D even Yes.
Oh, we'll be talking about the D later.
But there's a very large and wonderful D out there, very very expensive, and people are very excited to get it.
There's gonna be a lot of boys d under the Christmas tree Tree she's hoping that d.
Speaker 5Now.
Speaker 3Oh, maybe that's what I should do.
Speaker 1You know, I was thinking about I've done an ode.
Speaker 4Have you been a good boy, Scott.
Speaker 3I've been a very good boy.
I've been a very good boy.
Speaker 1I should ask the people in the chat and in the Facebook groups.
I've done an ode to trek cast, I've done an ode to spot the deuce?
What should maybe for a little Christmas treat?
What should my next ode?
Speaker 5So?
Speaker 3Should it be an ode?
Speaker 4Do you say the d win?
Speaker 3If you should?
I do it ode to the d mm hmm.
It's should it be.
Speaker 1Overly phallic, lightly phallic, or just medium?
Speaker 6Like?
Speaker 4You do the d as you feel it needs to be done.
Speaker 3I'll do the d as I see fit.
Speaker 4That's right, that's right.
Speaker 1How you doing?
I like that?
Speaker 4I like that.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 4We are animal lovers here.
Speaker 3Yes, I love it.
Speaker 5Great?
Speaker 3You been good?
Speaker 1Uh we we we got our first snowfall and I not much.
It's just it's just a dusting.
You can still see the grass and everything.
It's it's it's bittersweet because it means the start of a difficulty season driving at the end of the motorcycle season.
Speaker 3But it's it.
Speaker 1It's sort of the unofficial start of the Christmas season for me too, So.
Speaker 3I don't know.
Speaker 1That's yeah, I feel like I have to like take a deep breath and hold it until you know, early spring when the last snowfalls.
So you know, we need the weather modification net more than ever.
Speaker 4A says good morning, trek casters.
Yes, hello, good morning?
Speaker 1Is it?
Is it trek casters?
Is that what we are?
Speaker 4I don't know, man, I mean.
Speaker 1I guess we wouldn't be trek cast ees that that'd be everybody on the other side.
Because there there was that debate, that star trek debate, trek like you consider yourself a.
Speaker 4Trekker or a trek e Yeah, trugger always sounded weird to me.
Speaker 1Well, you know a lot of people said trekker, a lot of there's a big debate, and.
Speaker 4And I, oh, there he is.
Speaker 1Yeah, it's a mobile episode today because something.
Speaker 5I may go in and out of coms.
Speaker 7Okay, but that's you know, well can you hear me?
Speaker 1You know, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3Are you a treky or a trekker?
Speaker 1All right, that's what that's what we want right now?
Speaker 3You're a truck.
Speaker 5Yeah?
Speaker 6You know what I've said trecky two people.
I've never introduced myself as a trekker.
I think it's uh, I don't know, it's kind of pretentious, like, oh, I'm not a trecky.
Speaker 3I'm a right to stop here, I jack.
Speaker 4What do you guys think?
Trekker or treky?
What do you like?
Speaker 1Look, I'm gonna end the debate once and for all.
I took you from the Great Bird of the Galaxy himself.
When Geene Roddenberry was asked, is it tru or trekker, he said, it's trekky and I should know.
I created the damn thing.
Damn Yeah.
So if it's good enough for Geene Roddenbery, it's good enough for Strong.
Speaker 4Beard's That's right.
That's right.
Well, on that note, should we get to the uh to the news.
Speaker 1Oh boy, let's let's see that Star Trek news.
Speaker 7Yeah.
Speaker 4Variety.
Uh, they did a big looking back at the first hundred days of David Ellison taking over Paramount and what's happened.
A lot of talk about UFC and their plans for the future to embrace AI, but there was one line in the article that has sent uh the Star Trek fandom into meltdown, and that is here.
I'll read the line.
The hope is to have a fresh Star Trek movie through the studio, though this studio has moved on from the idea bringing back Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and the rest of the assembled JJ Abrams reboot, so officially the Kelvin universe is dead.
They are going to do something new.
I have also done some massive reading between the lines on this, so take this with a massive grain of salt.
This also, to me, tells me they're ready to move on from current iterations to shows, and once those shows are done, they probably want to do their own thing.
So I don't know if that will be a complete refresh reboot.
I don't know if that'll just be like a new show with a new crew, still same timelines.
I don't know, but I.
Speaker 1Am out as long as they don't do what everybody wants exactly, as long as they don't do a legacy show or a TNG era movie, because nobody wants that.
Speaker 4Give me live action Star Trek scouts.
Speaker 1So you know, yes, maybe another just I know, another Discovery spin off.
Speaker 4Yet another Yes, maybe taking.
Speaker 1Place like another three hundred years in the future.
Speaker 4Oh, let's do Star Trek, Let's hide it and so that way you got Discovery and let's hide it, they compare.
Speaker 6Yeah, yeah, I'm.
Speaker 4You know, just because we discovered things and now we hide things.
Speaker 1Yep, I'm okay, rest in peace, you know, play tabs.
Speaker 4And yeah, yeah, well, I mean we do also have one new Star Trek show coming, of course, which.
Speaker 1Is yeah, yeah, I'll watch it.
Speaker 4Yeah, Star Trek Academy, of course I'll watch it.
Speaker 1Yeah, I'm not excited about it, but yeah.
Speaker 4Well we got two seasons of it ready to go.
Speaker 1So yeah, yeah, I'm looking for you know, if nothing else, I'm looking forward to doing this show about Academy.
Speaker 4What do you want in a new Star Trek movie?
Would you want like a TG reboot?
Would you want a completely new something?
What would you guys want?
Speaker 1You know, I'm I'm a simpleton.
I'm like a dog chasing cars.
I want I want uh legacy characters, you know, I want fan service, I want I want Captain Cisco back, and I want uh, you know, Jonathan Arch to pop in there, and I want t G.
I want the d I want all that stuff.
They're never gonna do it, and.
Speaker 7Definitely yeahechnique talking about.
Speaker 1Oh, okay, I want I want the NCC one seven one D.
Speaker 5That's what I want.
Speaker 4You want?
You want?
Speaker 1Yes, exactly, Let's see seven D.
Speaker 3Oh, God, go ahead and google that.
Speaker 1Everybody see seventeen D.
It's just a short version of the Enterprise.
Speaker 4Well, I'll tell you what I don't want.
I don't want a trilogy series set.
Yeah, I don't want a trilogy series set at the beginning of the Federation and we take three movies to finally end up with the Federation, right, which I could see that pitch happening.
Like, if we're gonna reboot it, let's start from the very beginning.
Speaker 1What about if it was an Archer centric series.
Speaker 4See, I think that's looking back, and I don't.
I don't think that's what these guys want to do.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 4I think they want to just start their you know, fresh, their own thing.
Yeah, you know, I.
Speaker 1Want them to start in twenty four oh three and then they can do whatever story they want to.
And I'd like them to Okay, maybe not shackle themselves to Cannon, but maybe you know, you know those little uh, those little things you see on kids and moms where there's a little leash from the from the mom's wrist to the kids wrist.
Give me one of those harness Yes, just harness yourself to cannon.
Loosely attach yourself to cannon.
Yeah, that would be a retractable, right, exactly, Just loosely get with cannon.
Uh just a little bit.
Okay, Yeah, I don't rewrite the entire history.
You've gotten a higher and you've got an entire history to base a new story on.
Speaker 4Embrace it.
Speaker 7Yeah, I want to know.
Speaker 5I want them to continue into the future.
I do.
Speaker 6Yeah, pick the wrong point to continue to the future.
Speaker 1Not nine hundred years in the future.
Speaker 4Yeah, yes, I think.
Okay, if you were to continue, you know, it just passed to the card shows you know that that kind of future, that timeline, and that way you're you're kind of blank slate.
You can do whatever.
And then all you got to do is one line in the movie somewhere where they just say the future is endless possibilities.
Yeah, we've seen alternative takes where they can go.
But anything we do forward can change things.
That would rewrite a lot of discovery and academy and then that would give people them, you know, the creative team, the room to not have to follow whatever those guys made canon, right, because then it would just be Discovery and Academy are just a possible future.
Speaker 5Yeah, but they're doing that.
Speaker 6They're doing Academy right now to write off Discovery right now.
I could get that if they wanted to do that, But yeah, do that while while they're actively continuing it that that doesn't.
Speaker 5Make any sense.
Speaker 4But what I'm saying is.
Speaker 6The multiverse thing is just out done right now.
It's out of control.
The Arrow Verse did it for you know, seven years.
We had the whole multiverse saga in you know, in the in the MCU that they're still in the process of.
Speaker 5Finishing up.
Speaker 6The Flash movie delved into multi versus Pacemaker.
It's just the second part of the new you delve into multiverses.
It's like, okay, you know, we everyone knows they are multiverse is now, but it can't.
Speaker 5Be the new go to tool for script writing.
That's just lazy.
Speaker 1It's late, Yes, it's lazy.
Speaker 4But the other thing, though, is by the time they get to this year, which pitch they go with, and then to actually make that movie is another two year process.
On top of that, we're not seeing this new movie for at least three years.
Speaker 1Yeah, from which point.
Speaker 6It's just gonna be, which means there's gonna be five other multiverse projects to point to and say, you're doing.
Speaker 4The same thing they did right, right, So but I get I guess what I'm getting at is they have time to figure this out, and they've got time to get pitches, and we don't know how big of a priority Star Trek is actually to paramount right now.
You know, apparently the UFC was a big yeah.
Speaker 6So and you know what, and you know what, the worst part about the whole multiverse thing is the one franchise that I wish wish would go to that well won't and that would and that's Star Wars.
If they could multiverse that sequel trilogy away, I would embrace that in a New York minute.
Speaker 5But they won't.
They won't.
They're doubling down on it.
Speaker 6We're They're like, hey, we're gonna give you more of the same in the next ten years.
Speaker 5We're getting We're do it another trilogy.
Speaker 4Oh yeah, I'm telling you, man, at some point you.
Speaker 5Hated this ship.
Wait till you see this ship over here, Race Skywalker.
Speaker 4I promise you it is only a matter of time until they reboot and remake the original trilogy.
You're gonna get a new Luke Skywalker, a new Princess Leah, a new Han solo.
Speaker 5I don't think that's the answer, though.
Speaker 4That is the big red button.
Hey, we're in trouble.
We need to save this franchise.
Hit it, let's reboot, let's completely start over.
That's gonna be what.
Speaker 1Is the biggest most iconic franchise that's been rebooted like that?
Speaker 4Oh man.
Speaker 1One of the people said, you can't do it, because because I would, you know, the franchise is a lot of that I've heard people say you can't do it is back to the Future.
You just can't reboot it.
It's it's too iconic, you can't.
Speaker 4I think you meant.
I thought you meant ones that have been rebooted successfully.
Speaker 1Yeah, give me give me an example one that's been done successfully.
Speaker 4I mean, you could argue King Kong.
That thing has been rebooted over and over again and it does pretty well.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 6The Battlestar Galactica, yeah, from the two thousands is superior to the original in every single way.
Speaker 1Yeah, agreed, I don't think Yeah, I mean, yeah, even though even though, duy, even though it was shown on the Office that it was basically a shot for shot remake.
Speaker 6Those those who don't watch The Office aren't going to get that job.
Speaker 4So yeah, yeah, that's right.
Dan Animal's got road rage.
Now he's coming to my house.
He's driving to my house to make me watch it.
Speaker 5Yep, I'm changing course.
So you have to do it.
You have to do it, but I will, but I will say.
Speaker 4This, this is America.
I don't have to do anything.
Speaker 3No, you have to.
Speaker 5If.
Speaker 6Yeah, the first season, which is a shortened season because it's it was a mid season replacement.
The first season is a little rough, Okay, so when you when you try it, you gotta promise us that you will finish the first season and get a few episodes into the second season before you can't jump ship the first season.
Speaker 4Okay.
Speaker 6They did a major overhaul between.
Speaker 5Season one and two.
Speaker 7Okay, and it made all the difference.
Speaker 5But really, seriously, Dad, you gotta watch it.
Speaker 6I don't know how you have existed in the US in the last fifteen years and you have not watched that.
Speaker 4To make it worse, that's when I worked into TV news at the NBC affiliate.
When that show was out, I had no reason not to watch it, and I didn't watch it.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, you definitely have to check it out.
And then and then when you're done with that, you have to watch Parks and Rec.
Speaker 3May I love Parks and Rec part.
Speaker 1Yeah, the Office is is sort of in the same vein.
Speaker 7Yeah, the Parks and Rec.
Speaker 6Parks and Rec was originally developed as a spinoff of the Office.
The original idea is that a copy machine from dunder Mifflin was shipped to the Parks and rev pres department.
Speaker 7In what is it twenty Yeah, yeah, and through.
Speaker 6The development process they kind of just got rid of the spinoff idea.
But it's totally shot in the same way.
It's it's totally inspired by it.
Speaker 4Yeah, the same kind of vibe, is what I understand.
Speaker 7Yeah, yeah, all right.
Speaker 4Let's get to the next news stories because we've just been going on.
So our next news story comes to us from a news source Lego dot com.
Oh yeah, this is the thing that, this is the big thing everybody has been talking about.
So let's uh, let's bring this up.
You know, let's let's show the d on the internet.
There it is, baby Glorious Giant three six D with a bunch of minifigures.
This is coming out on Black Friday.
It will go for just just under four hundred three ninety nine and if you get it within a small time window, you also get a little shell craft as a gift from Lego.
Aw So, it will be available on Lego dot Com and Lego stores.
Uh so, yeah, are you guys gonna get the D for Christmas?
Speaker 1Look, I'm not big, I'm not baked with novelty versions of IM not a huge Lego.
I love Legos, I don't use them.
I Legos is one of those things that I wish I was into, but I'm not.
But I've never you know, this is the This, this attempt to draw me into Legos is is Lego's biggest.
Speaker 3Almost win for me.
Speaker 1But I still won't.
I still won't buy.
But not.
If it was one hundred dollars, I might have a discussion.
Speaker 3But four hundred dollars is.
Speaker 1Not something that I don't.
I have other things to spend my discretionary in.
Come on, it's uh, it looks great.
I'm sure it's a lot of fun to build.
You know, if there's any if there's any treck cast listeners out there that has a cool twelve hundred dollars to spend, send us each one, well, review it on.
Speaker 3The show.
Speaker 4Or if leg wants to send them, or if.
Speaker 1Lego wants to send out, yeah, be happy to review then yeah, yeah, absolutely yeah, glowing.
Speaker 4Reviews indeed, indeed.
Speaker 1But I love it.
It looks great, it looks the figures look awesome.
I've even got an email about it later.
Speaker 4Okay, great, great, Yeah.
Speaker 1It's uh now that's the seven.
Speaker 3What does it come with?
Speaker 1It looks like there's nine figures there, yeah, and spot and spot, so it looks like we got a gun in and.
Speaker 4Then we got a gun in uh.
Speaker 1And then the magnificent seven.
Okay, yeah, cool.
Speaker 4So get a little plaque that says it's the enterprise, Dan, are you gonna get the d.
Speaker 1Ah?
Speaker 5It looks like to uh to give it some thought.
Speaker 4I'm on the fence, yeah.
Speaker 5I you know, I love cool toys.
Yeah, I don't have a lot of leg My son has a bunch of Legos.
I have a bunch of h.
Speaker 6Fox, which is the Mattel version of Lego that are compatible with Lego.
Speaker 5I have the Giant.
Speaker 3I think it's like.
Speaker 6Pieces I've got Castle of Gray Skull.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, Sneak Mountain.
Speaker 6I've got all the little minifigures that came with that, all the little vehicles that came.
Speaker 1Out with that.
Speaker 3You grew up in the eighties without tellus you grew up in the eighties.
Speaker 4Let me give you an idea.
Speaker 7Let me give you an idea.
Speaker 4How big this thing is?
This thing is ten and a half by twenty three and a half inches by eighteen and a half inches.
This thing is giant.
Speaker 3Two feet long?
Is big?
Yeah, Yeah, it's a big It's a big D.
Speaker 4That's a big D.
Speaker 1It is.
Speaker 6My my my one hang up, My one hang up with Legos is the figures.
Speaker 5I hate the I hate the figures.
Speaker 6They were designed in the early nineteen eighties and they have just not changed.
Speaker 5They've not been updated in any way.
And I know they're not going.
Speaker 6To because it's it's the iconic Lego Man figure, and they have cartoons and movies with that design, Lego Batman, the Lego Movie.
I get all that, But for me, you put a you put a Mega Blox figure and a and a Lego figure side by side, and you know, the Megablox figure is superior in every way, and they did.
They did some Star Trek ones a few years ago.
I have a I have a I think I have bookard data and a and a couple of boards and they look great.
And I was hoping they could do the whole the whole.
Speaker 5Thing, and they and they didn't.
Speaker 7Yeah, but there's.
Speaker 6Also another company called Blue Bricks, and I think they're a European company.
Speaker 5They don't sell.
Speaker 4Oh no, we're losing Dan.
Speaker 1He said there was another company called Blue Bricks.
I've never heard of them, but yeah, yeah, I'd be curious to find out how many people are, like if anybody in the chat, if anybody in the Facebook group or Instagram group gets the set post some pictures of it.
Speaker 4Kess wants to know where will I put the dans.
Speaker 1I have a few suggestions.
You could put it on your shelf, you know, something like that.
Yeah.
Speaker 6Hey, so, yeah, there's another company called Blue Bricks.
It's a European company.
They had a Star Trek license for the last several years.
I think it's compatible with Lego.
I don't know if they have any any figures or anything, but I know that you can get kling on ships.
Speaker 5You can get Deep Space nine.
Speaker 6There's there's a whole, you know, mess of stuff over there that that never made it to the States.
Speaker 5And I think you can get some of this stuff through Amazon.
Speaker 6So if you like the idea of this ship, but maybe you don't want to spend the four hundred dollars, there might be some other.
Speaker 5Options for you there.
Speaker 4Yeah.
I just found the uh the DS nine that they made, and it's on Walmart dot com for two hundred and fifty bucks, right, yeah, and it looks pretty large and in charge.
Yeah.
Speaker 1Yeah, I'd be more interested in and they're hard to find now, but I'd be more interested in building a.
Speaker 4Model Yeah yeah, me too, Me too.
Speaker 1And and I think I think that this winter I'm gonna try a model project.
Oh yeah, I wanna.
Yeah.
I want to see if I can find either either one of the iconic ships either the except for original series, so either D Space nine or the Defiant or the Enterprise D or Voyager something in that in that ilk.
If I find a discovery, I'll send it to Dan.
Speaker 4There you go, you don't have to.
Speaker 6There was a guy.
There was a guy used to go to conventions.
I saw him a couple of times, and he would have models there that he built, and he would just sit there and paint them.
And he was like he had his system down.
And when I when I say he would paint them, I mean he would do the ad they call it as teching.
I think where you're painting like the individual.
Speaker 7Panels, you know the idea.
Speaker 6Not every one of them is the same, the exact same shade of ray, so you get that.
Speaker 5Like checkered the fact.
Speaker 1Yeah, it was amazing.
Speaker 6So I don't have that kind of skill, So I don't know if I want to.
Speaker 5Do a model.
Speaker 1Right well, you know, I mean, I'm sure he didn't have that kind of skill when he started out too, So you know, maybe I'll get like the simplest version they got.
And I don't even know if they sell them anymore, Like I don't know what company made made him back in the well.
Speaker 6Still this the thing with models.
There's plenty of old stock out there.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, sure you want.
Yeah, maybe I could buy one of those reliants that I gave you guys back there.
Speaker 4You go, all right, And then our last news story comes to us from ah, what is this h slash film?
Or I film something like that?
Yeah, I film, Okay, and we're finding out more about that Scott Bacula show that we keep hearing rumors about.
If you haven't heard, this is the first time you're hearing this.
There are reports that there is a President Archer show in the works.
These have been the rumors for quite a while now.
It's not necessarily a rumor in that the the producer of the show, has come out and said that he's trying to work on it.
It's not you know, anything that paramount has confirmed.
Sounds more like it's a pitch and he's trying to rally excitement for it.
But Scott Bakula was asked about this recently on a morning talk show and he said, quote, of course I would love to do more Star Trek, but I can't clear up any rumors because I didn't start them.
They're not they're not planted.
They're just people talk about stuff.
Star Trek fans are spectacular, ardent, and loyal.
It's fun to be around them, and they're running with something.
A little piece of information went out and they're having a ball with it, so enjoy So that's it.
He's just like, yeah, that would be nice, but nothing in the work, so okay, sounds about right.
I mean that's about what we knew anyways.
So what do you guys think?
Do you want this show or not or.
Speaker 3Accurate?
I thought the enterprise was cut short.
I'd like to see that story continue.
Yeah, see what happened.
Speaker 4Well, there you go.
Speaker 5About President Archer.
I don't know if that's really what I want to see.
Speaker 1Like Star Trek West Wing, Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 4You know, I I've been thinking what would be an interesting Star Trek show is Star Trek Medical.
Yeah, we're where it's kind of like like an er type show where they're dealing with with medical emergencies, but there's then the exploratory component to it where they have to figure out, how do we, you know, cure these alien diseases.
We have to go to different planets to get you know, this plant or that thing there to to cure this problem.
And so it wouldn't just be based in a you know, in a hostel spittle, but as they travel around and do things to solve medical that.
Speaker 6They might as well clone the Chicago franchise and just have Starfleet Security complete fire suppression system followed by Starfleett.
Speaker 4You know what that that's not actually a bad move because those shows are so popular.
Yeah, if you want to grow the franchise, that's a that's a good template.
So I don't know, it's an idea.
Whatever.
Yeah, yeah, Scott's not too happy about that one.
Speaker 1Whatever.
Speaker 4Yeah, all right, Well should we get to the main topic and uh talk about a you know, forty year old movie or whatever?
Fine?
Will now command.
Speaker 1Up interaction the Insurrection.
This was a great episode of Star Trek.
The Next Donation.
Speaker 4Yes, this came out December eleventh, nineteen ninety eight.
It had a budget of seventy million dollars and made a box office of one hundred and eighteen million.
Speaker 1The Rotten Way to Building the Bakka Village, Yes, yeah, I bet yeah.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 1Not to mention the rest of the movie with CGI, yeah yeah, and not done by ILM.
Speaker 5It was.
Speaker 1It was the first movie first they did.
Uh, Generations was and uh first Contact was done by ILM, but ILM was busy doing other stuff.
Speaker 4Okay, well, the h the Rotten Tomato scores are pretty rough.
Yeah, the Rotten Tomato scores are pretty rough.
It's got a fifty four from critics and a forty from fans.
Speaker 3So yeah, it wasn't it wasn't the greatest.
It wasn't the greatest.
Speaker 1Yeah, but I still I you know, I'm still a big fan of This was directed by Jonathan Frakes, was Jonathan Freak production.
Rick Berman, Michael Pillar and and uh Patrick Stewart were producers.
I I'm still a big you know, even even for the shoddy writing and the semi okay visual effects, I still give Jonathan Frakes props for for directing this.
Speaker 3It was the okay ist Star Trek movie.
Speaker 4Yeah.
It was an okay two parter episode.
Yeah, that they that they released in theaters.
Speaker 1I can't point out I mean, other than knits or you know, stuff like that.
I can't point out any glaring, large bad things about this movie like you can about Nemesis or Star Trek five or you know, there's nothing, it's it was just a an okay story.
Speaker 4Yeah, I appreciate it.
They tried to do something different with like a Fountain of Youth type story.
I just don't I don't find the Fountain of Youth that compelling for myself.
Speaker 1Right.
What the thing I liked about it is that there it wasn't it And I kind of feel like Guardians of the Galaxy three took a page out of this playbook.
It wasn't a galaxy ending threat, right, that's also what because it wasn't bigger and bigger and bigger.
Speaker 4And bigger, you know, yeah, yeah it was.
Speaker 1It really only affected six hundred people.
And I kind of liked that.
Speaker 4Yeah, I did like that.
Yeah, I did like this scaled it back.
Speaker 6They kind of reference that in the beginning of the movie when they're in the sermo lift and he says, does anyone remember when we were explorers they went down the list of all the ship they.
Speaker 7Have to do in the next few days?
Speaker 6Yes, does anybody remember when we were explorers?
Yeah, and he was He could just as easily have been saying, does anyone remember when we told small stories?
Speaker 1Right?
Speaker 4Yeah?
Speaker 1Yeah, yep.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 1So timeline wise, this takes place at the tail end of season six of Deep Phase nine, so we're right smack dab in the middle of the Dominion War, and there's some dialogue at the beginning of the film in that same scene where Card's like, no, no, no, we can't delay blah blah blah.
That'll delay our archaeological dig It'll put us in the middle of the monsoon season.
So it's pretty obvious that the Enterprise E is not on the front lines.
It's not fighting the Dominion War.
And I kind of get that.
You know, you don't put your unite this ship on the front line.
I mean, there's other sovereign class starships.
There's a thousand Federation starships that there.
I I understand Starfleet wanting to have a few ships doing non war stuff.
Speaker 6You know that that and if the flagship gets destroyed, oh, morale, huge blow to morale.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, they probably wanted to keep keep them out of harm harm's way.
So I get because I've heard that being a knit why wasn't the Enterprise on the front line?
You know, it's the best ship in the fleet.
Yeah, the Enterprise being on the front line wouldn't have made a bit of difference in the outcome of the war.
So, yeah, take place, right, war.
Speaker 6So Alpha Quadrant's a big place.
The Dominion War was what's happening in that corner of the galaxy.
Speaker 5Deep space nine?
Speaker 1Right?
Yep?
Speaker 5You know there's the whole rest of the quadrant.
Speaker 1Yep.
I watched the movie.
I actually watched the movie twice.
Last night, my wife and I watched twice all the way through and then we watched the commentary with Jonathan Frakes and Okay, and I gotta tell you, Uh, Jonathan Franks and Marina Sertaz if if if you didn't know they are friends in real life, they got a ton of chemistry.
Uh.
They are obviously in love with each other as friends.
They they love each other's spouses.
They you can just tell that they're they're you know, their great friends, their buddies.
Yeah, you know, they call each other nicknames.
And it was it was fun listening to them do the commentary.
And it's funny because it's obvious that Jonathan Franks is the star trek guy and Marina Certez was just on the show because every two minutes Marina Certaz was like, wait, what's going on?
And what's that thing?
And I don't remember this at all.
Speaker 4Yeah, that's awesome.
Speaker 1Yeah, she is just as technically minded as her as her character.
Speaker 4Nice.
Speaker 1Yeah, it was funny listen like what's going on and Jonathan Franks would have to explain it to her like she's like, well, why did they why did they try to plow up the ship?
And Jonathan Fraks is like, because they're they're the bad guys.
They're they have no moral compass.
That's why.
Oh it was great.
Speaker 3So if you if you have I have the Blu ray set that came out.
Speaker 1Based on dialogue that they said during the commentary, it sounded like that they did the commentary right around two thousand and nine.
Mm hmm, so.
Speaker 3Yeah, it was.
Speaker 1It was.
It was a lot of fun, a lot of fun.
Speaker 3You know.
Speaker 4I'm just now thinking, how old were you guys when this movie came out December of nineteen ninety eight.
Speaker 5I was twenty one years old.
Speaker 1I was nineteen maybe, yeah, I was nineteen Okay.
I I was joking with my wife, I'm like, this is the last.
This was the last Star Trek movie, though I saw before I met you.
Oh yeah, did.
Speaker 4You guys see this one in the theaters?
Speaker 1I did see this one of the theaters.
Speaker 4Okay.
Speaker 6I saw it on Uh I think I saw it on Thursday night at mid night.
Speaker 4Oh dang, yeah in costume.
Speaker 7Not in costume, okay, not in costume.
Speaker 1But I did say it might have been wearing a Star Trek shirt.
Speaker 4But yeah, I was.
Speaker 6Probably wearing a leather jacket with a combatge on it.
Speaker 3There you go, there you go love it.
Speaker 6I remember at the time really wanting to love it mm.
Speaker 5Hmm, but only but only liking it.
Speaker 7Yeah, I didn't hate it at the.
Speaker 1Time, but no, I just well, we were looking for a kick ass sequel to Star Trek First Contact, and that's that's what we got.
Speaker 6Yeah, and you were watching, you know, we're watching the sixth or seventh season of Deep Space nine at the time, which was, you know, awesome once a week.
Speaker 5I was looking for more.
I was looking for.
Speaker 4More awesome mm hmmm.
Speaker 6And uh it was fun.
It was fun, but it wasn't great.
I can remember I can rolling my eyes when the the Manusting col came up.
Yes, I was like that that a grabby game bro.
I got one of those up my gateway two.
Speaker 3Thousand, ye, sir.
Speaker 4Was there's like a there's a there's a reddit thread that points out things in movies like and where you can buy them, and like they will screenshot things and be like, oh, that's this thing and that's that.
Speaker 6Yeah, there's one of the famous things the first Alien movie.
Speaker 5There's this thing hanging from the ceiling.
I don't even know what it's supposed to be.
Speaker 6Huh, but it's it's totally it's totally a The Japanese version of what would later become Shockwave was one of the original g One Transformers turned Oh.
Speaker 4Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Hanging.
Speaker 5He's hanging from the sailing upside down and once you see it, you can't.
Speaker 4Unsee it, right, right, is a Transformer just sitting there?
Yeah?
Speaker 6And then I saw I saw a clip this morning of some black and white commercial that takes place at a news stand in the nineteen sixties, and in the background on the newsstand, number number fifteen is what it was, amazing fantasy number fifteen, which was the first appearance.
Speaker 1Of Spider Man.
Oh, oh my god.
Speaker 6That thing probably thrown away a week later.
Speaker 4Yeah, yeah, yeah, Well, what did you think of the villain?
Was Rodolfo?
Speaker 1Yeah, played by F Murray Abraham.
F Murray Abraham is an Academy Award nominee.
He's might have been, might be a winner.
I thought he was great, you know, he's a great actor.
The makeup, you know, God, Michael west you know, they talked about this in the commentary, Michael Westmore.
They call them Wes Moore heads, especially the aliens.
At the beginning that they were that were joining the Federation.
I thought the the makeup was great.
It was it was different than what they've done.
It wasn't just pointy ears or ridges on the nose.
They went all out.
It was obviously had a movie budget.
I think it was gross and great about the skin stretching and.
Speaker 3The stuff like that.
Speaker 1Yeah, you know the I thought the plot where the Sona and the Bakhu spoiler alert for those who haven't seen the movie, the Sona and the bak Whu are the same race.
I thought that was kind of an interesting, you know, a little connection.
Speaker 5I remember.
Speaker 1Yep, and uh, I remember looking at that when when when Doctor Crusher tells Picard, he's like, look at these look at their DNA profile and it shows a picture of the tray corder and I'm like, that's the same image of the try qorder that's always displayed on the tri quorder.
Speaker 4Mm hm.
Speaker 1And and it made me think of I just got done with the with the video games Star Trek Resurgence, and in the video games Star Trek Resurgence, they recon the tricorder in a way that makes sense, so it's still the exact same try chorder, only in the game, the tricorder can emit a holographic image above the tricorder with a large display.
Oh okay, yeah that makes sense because nobody's gonna want to watch.
I mean this, the window on a tricorder is smaller than an iPod, right, right, and so it makes sense.
And I like the way they reconed the tricorder in the game, where they had a holographic image above the tricorder that they could actually read from.
But that was one of my nitts from the movie.
But I liked.
I liked the connection they made there.
Speaker 4I think if you were gonna go for a villain that is obsessed with the Fountain of Youth, he needed to be a little bit more vain and into his own looks.
Speaker 1Yeah, I thought they, I mean they addressed that a little bit.
Speaker 4A little bit, but I think you yeah, I mean, maybe that's too cartoonish, you.
Speaker 1Know, right right he look he does look in the mirror after a session of flesh stretching with with five.
Speaker 4Yeah, yeah, I mean it's subtle, right, Maybe they decided just to go that route with it.
Speaker 5Do we know who played.
Speaker 6His second in command?
Because speak, I think it's Michael Ironside.
Speaker 1It's not Michael irons Pride.
Speaker 5But yeah, I can see why you always to look it up.
Speaker 1Yep, yep, yeah yeah, I and I you know, I like the I like the speech that Picard gives Golna.
I like the how he kind of makes him flip.
I I'm not pleading for your life.
I'm pleading for yours.
It was both a great line and very predictable, especially for cap Card.
Uh, but I thought it was great.
Yeah, I I I like the movie.
I enjoyed it.
I really did.
Speaker 6Yeah, and uh, this was this was Will Farrell's first serious role.
I'm wondering why he didn't get more.
Speaker 4What are you talking about?
Speaker 6Oh nobody?
Oh man, all right, the Baku leader, I don't know.
He always looks like Will Farrell.
Speaker 4Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Speaker 1We believe if you make a machine to do the work of a man, you take something away from the man.
Speaker 6Guy.
Speaker 5Yeah, that guy.
Speaker 4The thing that should be right over chat gpt that quote.
Speaker 1Right yeah yeah, uh.
Speaker 5All right nitpicks.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 1When they're on the hollow ship and they shoot the the sona guy, he obviously lands on a mattress.
Speaker 6Yeah yeah, I mean that's yeah, that's Hollywood.
Speaker 1The burying the hollow ship in the lake I thought was weird.
And even when they drained the lake, I'm like that that the perspective looked weird to me.
Yeah, and it's a hollow ship.
Speaker 5Why do you have to hide.
Speaker 1It, right, especially if it's a cloak.
Yeah, you can just hide it out in the middle of a field.
Yeah, I thought that was weird.
Speaker 3Uh So when data.
Speaker 5When data starts malfunctioning in the beginning, Uh.
Speaker 6Huh, why didn't they just be going back to headquarters?
Speaker 4Yeah?
Speaker 3Why are they changed?
Speaker 5Why are they changing through the streets?
Speaker 3Yep?
And why did he sound out of breath?
Speaker 1Yeah, he's running, he's like rerouting micro hydraulic pressure.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 5The kid with the squirrel in his pocket.
I know, I know.
Speaker 6It's the late nineties and we got c G I now and we're dying to use it.
But we don't need to see the squirrel in your pocket.
That added absolutely That added absolutely nothing to the film except costs.
Speaker 3Yeah, yeah, yep.
Speaker 6You could take that thing out completely, have it wuld probably be a better moment.
My other nitpick is the baku Like I'm not even sure I understand it, but they can not only do they have the fountain of youth, but they can will time to slow down around them.
Speaker 5I don't get that.
Speaker 1Well, it's funny because Picard asked her about that specific asked Ane specifically about that, and I think the writers didn't want to address that like they did.
They wanted to leave that vague because he says, your mental abilities did did they?
Speaker 3Did they develop here?
Speaker 1And she goes, oh, you have more questions, like, they didn't specifically answer it, so I guess whatever your head canon.
Speaker 4Well, and then when they're like, oh, yeah, the it.
Speaker 6Did nothing for the it did nothing to further the story.
It did absolutely nothing to further the story either.
Speaker 4It didn't need it, So I thought it was kind of dumb when they're like, yeah, the planet radiation doesn't affect the kids still they're older.
Speaker 1I mean I kind of looked at it like, you know, a vampire, you know, an adolescent vampire, doesn't you know, they don't they they're not born, grow to twelve and then just stop growing.
They grow to you know, a maturity, and then they stop aging.
That's kind of how I took that.
Speaker 4No, I guess my thought is like, so I shouldn't biologically.
Speaker 7What Dan, Go ahead, No, I think I'm on a delay.
Speaker 5Go ahead, I'm gonna.
Speaker 4I'm gonna reset you, okay, okay, So yeah, So my my thought is, Okay, they're all, you know, biological creatures, right, they're all people.
Why why would the radiation not affect the children?
Sure they would eventually grow, but it would take longer.
Speaker 1Yeah, Chasmis says, it's like baby Yoda.
Yeah, yeah, that I guess that would make sense.
Speaker 4Yeah, I mean, if it's going to be a biological thing, that would make more sense.
And then they said, like, it doesn't affect the kids till they're older, till they're mature.
Okay, so then what happens.
Do they just stay eighteen for like, you know, fifty years.
Speaker 1Or or they age really slowly?
Speaker 4Yeah yeah, and then yeah, you know that's what I mean, Like, it doesn't make sense that they they age normally until they hit you know, maturity, and then it slows down.
Speaker 3It's whatever the plot needs it to be.
Speaker 4Yeah, that's what it is.
Speaker 1But it's whatever the plot needs.
Yeah.
Speaker 4Yeah, all right, Dan, what were you going to say?
Speaker 5I was gonna say.
Speaker 6When Picard is braiding the armory and the crew confronts him.
The card is wearing civilian clothes because he's decided to leave his his position on the Enterprise behind and go do the right thing.
M the crew confronts him.
Half of them are in uniform, half of them are in civilian clothes.
Speaker 1Yep.
Speaker 3Yeah, Richer already decided who's gonna be out that away team.
Speaker 6We already decided who's going with the captain and who's staying on the ship.
It made zero.
It made zero sense, zero zero, said, especially since the only time we ever see warf wearing anything other than.
Speaker 5A Starfleet uniform is when he is wearing what.
Speaker 6Is cling on attire, and instead he was wearing a baby blue leisure suit or whatever the hell, whatever the hell it was.
So yeah, that whole thing made that.
That whole scene made zero sense.
Speaker 1I learned yesterday to day what wharf sash is called.
Yes, I did not know that word until.
Speaker 4What was it called a baldric warning warning NERD alert, NERD alert.
Speaker 1A baldric is a belt worn across the body from one shoulder to the opposite hip to carry items like a sword, bugle, or drum or other other items.
Speaker 4So wait, wait, that's a big difference a bugle or a sword.
Speaker 1Okay, I'm just saying that's what it is.
It's a belt worn across the chest.
So the reason I I always I didn't know what he said.
And since I'm watching it on DVD, I had access to the you know, the closed caption, and Wharf comes out of the turbo lift onto the bridge after he's late, right, you know, and uh the card says something really fast, and I never caught it each time I watched it.
He says, straight, you're Baldric commander, and I'm like, what did he say?
He's like, fend your Baldric commander.
Speaker 3I'm like what.
So I stopped it and.
Speaker 1I said, I looked at the closed caption and it said pal Drake.
Speaker 3Okay, so I looked it up.
Speaker 1I didn't.
That was the first I never knew what he said before.
Speaker 4Okay.
Speaker 6So another thing that bothered me.
When they're going to meet the aliens at the whatever, the dinner at the beginning, uh P card steps off the turble left and the young ensign calls everyone to attend and nobody, nobody anoledges that the captain is on the deck, and I never understood why.
And I still don't understand why.
Speaker 1Yeah, I never know.
I didn't notice that.
Yeah, now thinking back on it, right right, yeah, huh.
Speaker 6Well one thing I did like when when when parts way dude.
Speaker 4Oh no, we're losing them.
We're losing you, Dan, We're losing you buddy.
Speaker 7Oh I'm still here.
Speaker 4I can Okay, now, okay, say it again, say it again.
Speaker 6So when Picard steps away, I can't remember if it was to talk to Jeordi or talk to Admiral Dougherty.
But when he's going to go back into the dinner and he puts that stupid thing back on his head.
Yeah, when the when the door opens, it's a transparent door except for the edge of the door.
When the door opens and it passes in front of his face, the opequa cart passes in front of his face.
He goes from a serious face ceiling face because he's about to go interact those aliens again and he's diplomatic fifteen minutes and I thought they pulled.
Speaker 5That off really well.
Speaker 4Yeah, I noticed that too.
Speaker 3I noticed that too.
Speaker 4All right, well, yeah, this is what I want to do next, is like, what was your favorite part of the movie.
Speaker 1So definitely feeling aggressive tendency sir.
Speaker 4Okay, Yeah, that's a good one.
Speaker 5It was not the show too in the shattle Craft, it was not that.
Speaker 4I want the sunrise.
Speaker 5Yeah that was good.
Speaker 1That was a beautiful moment.
Yeah.
Speaker 6I enjoyed seeing riker and and Troy rekindling their their romance which had been below the surface for the last ten years.
Speaker 1Do you like to see King taking a bath?
Speaker 6Yeah, that's it.
That's exactly it.
Speaker 4Scott Scott Scott when they when they shaved off the beard, are you weeping?
Speaker 3I you know yet?
Speaker 1No?
Yeah, I I did not.
I did not like that at all.
Uh So one of the reasons why they did that is a lot of female Star Trek fans wanted to see him without a beard.
Speaker 4Hey I picture Scott raging like a monkey in the zoom.
Yeah.
I was like the table and screaming.
Speaker 3I was like Darth Vader when he found out that Padme died.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 1Yes, I broke out my life saver and just started slashing everything in the house.
Speaker 8Uh.
Speaker 3DEAs says, except for that.
Speaker 1Talking about going back to the squirrel, uh says, except for that, that little critter is the reason he goes back.
And Picard and the lady gets stuck.
So they were trying to show his attachment to that thing.
So that's the only reason why a knee got stuck in the first place.
Yeah, so it was a plot.
It was a plot device.
It was a plot device.
Speaker 4Yeah, but that could have been an animatronic and probably be chea.
Speaker 6It could have been like he built a sun dial at the beginning of the movie, and he wanted to take it with him because it was the first thing he ever built.
Speaker 5And and oh I left it in the cave.
Speaker 6I gotta go back for my sun dial, you know, it being a little like squirrel.
Speaker 5That cost a million dollars to animate.
Speaker 1I think they did it because somebody said, hey, let's make something that we merchandizing, you know, yeah, okay, I think maybe they were gonna merchandise it and that just never materialized.
Speaker 4That that's probably realistically what was the goal.
But all right, so scale one divide, what do you give this movie?
Uh, solid three, you're gonna go two and a half?
Speaker 5Yeah, I'm going two and a half.
Speaker 4Yeah, all right, two and a half.
Speaker 6It was like, you know, I am joyed seeing these friends again, but we didn't really do anything.
Speaker 5We just hung around and talked.
Speaker 4Yeah, that's kind of how I feel.
All right, Well, let's let's get to listener feedback X up in the chat if you want to join us.
But yeah, let's do that.
Speaker 1Listener feedback, listener feedback.
I have an email, Yeah, yeah, go for it.
Let's uh, while I'm looking it up, let's tell everybody how we can get involved in the in the chat and the live chat.
Speaker 4Oh yeah, yeah, oh what happened to Dan?
Speaker 1Let me get to narrow Black.
Speaker 4I'm here, okay, So you can leave us a voicemail at five seven zero six six one zero zero zero one.
That's five seven zero six six one zero zero zero one, and we would be happy to play your voicemail on the show.
If you keep it under two minutes, I will animate you and it will be hilarious.
We also are on all the social media's, so you can find us at trek cast, TNG and we're happy to interact with you.
And it is popping on all the social media's TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, So yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1A lot of Yeah, you guys are great.
We love the we love the fan interactions and when when when when?
Speaker 3Daniel says, X up in the chat.
Speaker 1So if you want to actually be on the show and talk to us live and be on the show, uh, you can get on our on our YouTube channel and watch the show live.
And when he says X up, he just means literally type in an X in the chat and that tells him that you want to be on the show and we'll bring you on and uh, you know, we'll talk about we'll talk about Trek.
So that's right right now, I've got an email.
It's I Scott.
It's Tim from Australia again.
Been waiting all year for the official Lego set of The Enterprise.
It was officially revealed this week.
You guys should definitely take a look at it.
Whilst looking at some of the images of the set, I noticed a spelling mistake.
Yeah, this was on the internet yesterday.
There's a dedication plaque for those of you who don't know, there's a dedication plaque buried somewhere in the Lego set and it says to boldy go bolt instead of boldly go, and Tim says, oh, dear Lego.
Also not their first spelling mistake.
They also had a spelling mistake on the Dolorean set.
Oh he says, I will be buying the set on Black Friday and we'll provide an update with build images once done.
Yes, yes, please do.
That'll be awesome.
Also, rest in peace to the Kelvin universe.
We didn't know how good you were until we got Discovery and Section thirty one.
Sorry for all the harsh words I said at the time.
That's tim.
Speaker 3Hey, thanks bim.
Speaker 1If if you want to send us an email, you can send us an email at treck CASTTG at gmail dot com, or you can send me one personally at strong Beard one seven oh one at gmail dot com.
Speaker 4Yeah, and uh, we did have some Facebook just feedback on Insurrection.
Most people thought, if you reframe it as a long lost episode, it's enjoyable.
That was from Eric Robin said.
Other than First Contact, none of the Next Gen movies really did it for me.
Speaker 1So yeah, it's just the next The next one was a dumpster fire.
Speaker 3Yeah that one.
Speaker 4Oh, I can't wait, I can't wait.
I have thoughts on that one.
This movie was so bland.
I didn't even want to like come up with what I would do with it.
I just it was what it was, what it was.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, it was it was okay, I enjoyed it.
Speaker 3I really enjoyed it.
I didn't have any you know, I didn't hate it.
Speaker 1Like it's not like watching the motion picture where it's like, oh God, will this ever end?
She's part Trek five, where it's like, oh god, well this ever in?
You know, it was.
It was perfectly serviceable.
There there was you know, the pacing was okay.
I didn't have a big problem with any any one thing.
You know.
Speaker 3I thought that the script was okay.
Speaker 4You know, that's its greatest crime.
It was just okay.
Speaker 1Yeah, And I'm a little biased.
I I thought the direction was good.
But I'm a Jonathan Frakes fan, so does everything everything he does Golden No, But I you know, he's I think Jonathan Frakes is the is the Spielberg of Trek.
There.
Speaker 4There you go.
All right, we got Jazbiz on the line.
He's sitting there, so let's bring him in now, jaz Biz.
There you are.
Speaker 1I love that Trek catat man.
Speaker 4That's awesome.
Speaker 9Yeah, I got the.
Speaker 1I'm also wearing an old school Trek cast shirt.
Speaker 4That's that's a reminder for people.
Chop Teas is still open right now.
They're going to be closing soon, So especially for our international friends.
You want to get free shipping on merch, now is the time.
Speaker 1Yeah, So go to trekcast dot com and check out what is it?
Speaker 4What is the store right at the top.
Yeah, there's a banner.
Click on that.
It'll get your regular chop te store.
Speaker 1And I'm not just saying this and Dan has mentioned this in the past.
Two These are good T shirts really, I mean these are not like ones that fade right away.
These are comfortable, well made T shirts.
So I wear mine all the time.
Speaker 4Nice, all right, Jasmins, what'd you think of the movie?
Speaker 9It's like an episode of Star Trek that you play in the background and clean your house.
Speaker 4Oh yeah, yeah, I can see that.
I can totally see that.
Speaker 9There's some many episodes of Star Trek, like you know, there's not really not too many like that.
Maybe season two's, you know, season one of Nextain it's like, yeah, I remember this one.
I'll go do something else.
Just play it in the background and watch the good parts and then do something else.
Speaker 3Yeah, it's not something I.
Speaker 9Go back to.
I haven't seen this maybe probably like five years.
Right the director's commentary.
I kind of watched everything with it, and you know, kind of liked it.
Speaker 4You know, do you guys ever put on something knowing you're gonna fall asleep, Like, yes, maybe mid afternoon nap or just even at night.
Speaker 9And I play I played the old school doctor.
Speaker 4Who's the Last Man?
This is definitely something I would put on, like in the background as I'm trying to sleep.
Speaker 9Yeah, like, and this is the first time we've seen the captain's.
Speaker 1Yacht, right yeah, yeah, yeah, yep.
Speaker 9And it's pretty cool.
I liked it, but I had no idea.
And I wonder if that, you know, that's one thing they should have showed on the lego set is maybe well, I guess that D didn't have the captain's yacht.
Speaker 1It did have the captain's yacht.
There was a captain's yacht on the bottom of that ship.
Speaker 4I lived that Scott's got all this stuff, like right, yeah, I'm.
Speaker 1Looking, I'm looking at the start.
I have a hard section right here, but I don't know where.
Speaker 9It's like Dan when he's in his basement and he has like all these toys from.
Speaker 1Yeah, well there it is, okay, yeah, the Enterprise D.
So here's the top of it, okay, and here's the bottom of it, and the captain's yacht is this guitar pick shaped thing.
Speaker 3At the bottom.
Speaker 1Oh okay, okay, it's it's yeah, shaped like a guitar pick, and it's it doesn't have any cells.
Speaker 3It's not warp capable.
Speaker 1According to the Star Trek Technical Manual, it's not warp capable, but it just drops down just like the.
Speaker 4So you can kind of survey when they're near something.
Yep, yeah, okay, cool.
Speaker 1And they they wanted to write it in a couple of times in next Gen, but costs and stuff, so yeah, they just didn't do it.
Speaker 4There's dance, okay.
Speaker 9So are you guys going to pre order this Lego?
Are you guys gonna skip.
Speaker 1It or h Dan says he's on the fence about the Lego set.
I'm not gonna get it four.
Speaker 9I hate that as four hundred dollars number.
Yeah, that's very pricey.
Speaker 4Yeah, I will put it to you this way.
I bought the Lego Vultron.
That set was normally three hundred dollars.
I went to a certain Chinese website where they don't officially call them Legos.
They don't say Lego on the bricks, but they're made from the same factory.
And I got my Vultron for fifty dollars, so oh yeah, that's if I'm gonna do it.
That's gonna be the route I go.
Speaker 9Yeah, yeah, okay, move version.
Speaker 4Of yeah yeah, I might not get the minifigs, but I would get the d So.
Speaker 9It might smell like a weird burnt plastic, but you'll have it.
Speaker 4Oh, it doesn't smell like that.
By the time I get it.
It takes like three weeks to get over from China.
It's fine.
Speaker 1Oh boy.
Speaker 4Yeah, Dan is frozen in shock of my Yeah.
Speaker 9His eyes aren't on the road.
He's just like looking.
Speaker 4Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's right.
We'll wait for him to come back.
Speaker 9But yeah, figures like cool, Like if you pre order it, you get the shuttle craft with ins in row.
Yeah, and that's all gonna last a week.
Speaker 1Shuttle Craft with insign Okay.
Speaker 9Yeah, but it just sucks.
It's four hundred dollars.
That's that's the point.
It's like, ah, it's like, come on, guys.
And I really was hoping it would have been like because they do like the movie scenes right, or or like a TV show where it's like the set of the office or the set of Friends or Seinfeld just the Bridge or something with.
Speaker 4Every Yeah, I'm sure that's coming.
I'm sure it's not gonna just be.
Speaker 9That's what I want.
I want like the Bridge set with everybody and ten forward.
Speaker 4I think if this was the Defiant for like, I don't know, one hundred and fifty, but a good sized Defiant, I think I would be more apt forgetting that.
Yes, but and dances, Yeah, dances.
He's out for the rest of the show.
It's too many technical difficulties, so okay.
Speaker 9Yeah, but that's that's one thing I like about Lego Ideas.
They'll you know, somebody will make that set and then people will crowdfund it.
Yeah, and they'll release it later on.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 4Yeah, well that's what they're doing with the They announced they're going to do that with the Power Rangers.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 9Like Juni's just came out, was it two weeks?
Speaker 4Yeah?
Speaker 9Yeah, that Lego Ideas has been on there for like if you go on the website, you can kind of see what people are crowdfunding and it's kind of neat.
Speaker 4Yeah, I'm sure you Frame Star Trek Lego video game coming soon.
God, I wish I would love the Lego video games.
Speaker 9Yeah, I wouldn't play that.
I would play have all the jokes and everything.
Speaker 4I literally recently got a p S five just so I could play that game that's coming out.
Oh yeah, okay, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 9Try the Spider Man or anything.
Speaker 3Yeah.
Speaker 4I got Spider Man two, so I've been playing that.
Speaker 9Yeah, that's a good one.
Speaker 4Yeah.
I played the first one.
I like that.
So anyways, uh yeah, So it feels like we're starting to wrap up.
Speaker 3Yeah, I've got a couple of things I start.
Speaker 1Trek Con just released this last episode.
Speaker 4Oh yeah, I want to do a full episode on that.
Speaker 3Okay, let's do a full episode on that.
Speaker 1Let's do that after we've done with with the movies.
We got one more movie to do.
I also just uh, there is a YouTube channel that I'm gonna I don't know, I don't have it offhand right now.
I'm gonna post it in the Facebook group a link to it that.
I have been listening to some audio books, some Star Trek audio books for free, and it even looks a little legit, like I think they've got a legit thing going on their older books.
I just recently listened to the first trilogy of The Shatter Reverse, and then I just read I read this book a long time ago, but I listened to it again.
Star Trek Homecoming.
It's a voyager book about the hours, days, and weeks after voyage it gets home from the Delta Quadrant, which chatter.
Speaker 9You to YouTube.
Speaker 1I'm just listening it on YouTube.
Speaker 9Oh really, Yeah, there's audio.
Speaker 1There's audiobooks on YouTube that you can listen to for free.
And like I said, i'm I'm I'm a little fuzzy on the legitimacy and the legality of it.
But the audiobook's been up for a month now and they haven't taken it down, so it seems like they've got some kind of deal.
They talk about it.
It's the audiobook is done not by an actual reader a voice actor.
It's done by AI, and they acknowledge that at the beginning.
They're like at the pacing and the pronunciation might be a little off, But I I enjoyed it.
It's not that bad.
I also just finished Star Trek Resurgence the video game, which was decent, kind of a choose your own adventure thing.
And then next weekend I'm gonna be at the Grand Appends Comic Con, that's running November fourteenth, fifteenth, and sixteenth.
I'm only going to be there, Des and I are going to be there, Uh, Saturday the fifteenth.
They've got how far away is that from you?
From me?
Speaker 3It's about an hour forty five minutes to an hour.
Speaker 1So no, no, it's it's not that bad.
In the past, we've stayed the night at a hotel near that.
I think we're just gonna leave in the morning and come back, yeah, that day.
But they put together a great comic con.
They got a lot of stuff there.
Speaker 4Uh.
Speaker 1The big star Trek actor is going to be there is Malcolm McDowell.
Alice Kreeg had to cancel for some reason.
But Malcolm McDowell's going to be there.
Nice or soaring from Generations.
Speaker 4Yeah, yeah, clock an Orange.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 9I asked him about couple say today.
Speaker 1And another cool thing about Yeah.
The other cool thing about the Con two is the US s to Come SE is joining their sister ship, the USS Grand Pataski at the comic con.
They are gonna be in the vendor hall.
They've always got a great uh, a great display.
I'm I'm I interviewed vern last year at the earlier this year, or it might have been last year at the comic Con.
They those guys do a great job setting up.
They've got a panel on Saturday from three to four, so I'm gonna be going to that too, So Grand Rapids Comic Con, uh, this this coming weekend, uh, and then the following weekend is Star Trek Chicago, and I will be there Saturday and Sunday.
So if you're gonna be at either one of these, hit me up on Facebook Messenger and UH, or just send a message in the in the Facebook group let let me know we're gonna be you're gonna be there.
I am gonna do a meet up that Saturday, not this coming Saturday, but the following Saturday at this in Chicago, and it's probably gonna be somewhere at the convention center.
So that Saturday night.
Speaker 4Is miss going to software stores with all the Star Trek games, seeing the shuttle Craft models on the sholves.
I missed the nineties, no don't we all?
Speaker 8Yeah?
Speaker 9Yeah, if you've got a hobby lobby, you sentimes, you see the starterring models, so.
Speaker 4Yeah yeah, and you get the fun yeah yeah, and you get the fun fact with the hobby lobby that they don't use barcodes because it's like the end Times or something like that.
Speaker 3They don't use barcodes.
Speaker 4No, look at any hobby lobby like tag, it's got a series of numbers, no barcodes because the owners believe that barcodes were mark or the were the.
Speaker 1Yeah okay, okay, yeah, yeah, it's gosh forbid.
Speaker 4Yeah.
The pork clerks have got to type in all these numbers every time to ring up your stuff.
Speaker 9That's why it takes so long to check out.
Speaker 4That's why it takes so long.
Speaker 9Well, the hobby lobbies from Oklahoma.
Speaker 3So you're like that chock.
Speaker 9Checks out.
Speaker 4Yeah, yeah, well we're never gonna get that hobby lobby sponsorship.
But well no, probably not, probably not.
Speaker 9Brought to you by hobby lobby and Michaels or.
Speaker 4Next week we will be like, yeah, so barcoes, that's the mark of the beast, right.
Speaker 1Oh I think you.
Speaker 9Guys cut off or talking about klingons in their anatomy, so.
Speaker 4Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, they wouldn't like that either.
Or how much we talk about.
Speaker 3The D D.
Speaker 1Yeah I got that too, Yeah, the double D.
Speaker 4That's right.
Speaker 9Oh god, okay, they talk about the double what about the ladies do they had doubled?
Speaker 4Hey, hey, two of everything?
Speaker 1Yeah, the N seven one v oh god, plenty of letters left in the alphabet.
