AI Lets Every Team Create Marketing-Ready Videos Instantly with Emily Kensley

Episode Transcript

You don't have to be a marketing expert to be able to get this workflow right away.

Just creating something like this at a very base level would have taken me hours when it comes to moving around within the actual screen.

So it's just a huge time saver in that specific aspect, first of all.

Emily, welcome to the show.

Hey, Aiden, how's it going?

Great, great.

We should have done this a long time ago.

You're doing all this cool stuff in AI and we haven't shown the world yet, so I'm very excited to do this.

But maybe for us to kick things off, Who are you?

What do you do?

Yeah, absolutely.

So my name's Emily Kinsley.

I'm the content marketer here at Fellow.

I create a lot of product content around what Fellow is, how it works, all that good stuff.

I started out at Fellow as a copywriter, but I think you'll probably remember that writing was just one the small things that I did for a time, and then it grew up into a lot of other things that I did.

I've done video tutorials, I've done all kinds of Fellow ads.

So video is something that became like a really big passion of mine very quickly at Fellow.

So that's still what I'm doing to this day, even though I'm working a lot more in the product itself, still helping create video content to show what our product is and get the message out there.

All right, very excited to to chat with you about this.

And of course, we're using more and more AI everywhere.

So is there a day where you don't use AI in the team?

No, never.

It's so amazing to see how it's grown and escalated even over the last six months.

I would say even six months ago I was maybe using ChatGPT maybe every other day and using AI tools, you know, a couple times a week.

Now I find myself if I'm not in one AI tool, I'm in another 1.

So no, definitely there isn't a single day that goes by where I'm not using an AI tool in one way or another.

I'm really excited to do this.

So for those listeners, watchers, hopefully you're watching because there's gonna be a lot of nice video content today.

But if people watch through the end of this episode, what are they going to walk away with?

Definitely going to walk away with an understanding of even though there is, even though you can do things manually, it doesn't mean that you have to.

There are a lot of really, really amazing tools out there that can save so much time when it comes to creating content.

And there are a lot of things that don't have to be done manually that in the past had to be done with a real person.

So they'll definitely be walking away with, I guess, a workflow on how to create content using very little to no actual human content, which I think is pretty exciting.

You know, centered around video content for today.

So who should watch this episode?

Or if if you're a leader in a company watching this episode and you're going to forward it to somebody who, who should you forward it to?

You know what, I think I, I initially, I would probably say you definitely want to forward this to your marketing team.

But one of the tools I'm going to show in a little bit, I think this touches on every single, every single team in your organization, whether it's customer success, whether it's sales, whether it's marketing.

I think everyone has the ability, especially when you're trying to sell a product or showcase how valuable a product is.

I think every team has the ability to be enabled to create really beautiful content when it comes to showing whatever it is they need to be sharing.

And I think you would want to forward this to every team in your company because it's that easy.

You don't have to be a marketing expert to be able to get this workflow right away.

OK.

Yeah.

I mean, that's exciting.

I've been using some of the workflows you've been showing me.

So I'm excited for us to share with everybody else so that they can adopt some of these things.

So with that said, let let's dive right in.

What are we seeing first?

Yeah, sure.

So first I'd like to show you one of my favorite tools, which is called Screen Studio.

When I first started creating video content, I was doing it the old fashioned way.

So I was recording things on my screen or even if I was recording myself, I was, you know, setting up a camera and like having everything be picture perfect ready.

And then I was uploading it into a manual editor like Adobe, for example, to be able to create really nice transitions and zooming in and out.

This was a really big thing that I needed to be able to do was to showcase if I'm talking about something specific, I need to be able to get up close and personal and show the audience exactly what I'm talking about.

The problem with this is that it takes a lot of manual time and effort to be able to create these animations.

And while it was a lot of fun and I learned a lot, I think, you know, an average video, it would take me hours to be able to get the animations right.

And there was always something that just wasn't consistent.

One animation would not be exactly the same as the other.

And sometimes you can tell, you know.

So I found this tool and I'm going to showcase, I think the best way I can show this.

When I first showed this to the team, this was the same way I did it.

So I'm going to show it by doing a screen recording and then showing what it will look like after.

So this is an AI note taker, sorry, an AI recap.

So I'm going to record it on the back end with Screen Studio.

Screen Studio Studio is a tool.

It's for screen recordings.

If you're going to make presentations that involve showing your screen, you would use Screen Studio.

Maybe in the past you would have used the tool like Loom.

Maybe you use the native recorder?

And yeah, so let's see what Screen Studio does.

Yeah, 100%.

So I'm going to start recording now.

So this is just an example of an AI meeting recap.

This is something very detailed and specific that I would want to be able to show someone, right?

So I'm going to click around in the highlights.

You know, this is what I want to show here.

I'm going to select this maybe, and then I'm going to Scroll down to the action items.

I'm going to click here so that people can see what that looks like.

Then maybe down to the decisions over here, maybe the chapters, I want to, you know, click over here.

Then maybe I want to go into the settings over here, Let's say I want to showcase that just really quickly.

And then I'll do one more, let's say pulling this up.

So I've recorded a few seconds here.

So now what you can see is exactly what I was recording while I was doing the demo just before.

So this is everything that I was clicking in, and this is showing the output without doing any edits on my end at all.

This is exactly the immediate output that Screen Studio does.

So I'll press play and you can see the mouse just in and of itself, right?

It's really smooth.

I was kind of jumping all over the place, but it smooths it out and it does these automatic zooms into exactly what I was trying to show.

You can make some adjustments on the back end, but this is just the output without doing any edits on my end.

This is all zooming and moving with the power of AII didn't do any of these animations or anything like that.

So it's just really goes to show like this.

Just creating something like this at a very base level would have taken me hours when it comes to moving around within the actual screen.

So it's just a huge time saver in that specific aspect, first of all.

That's incredible.

I was using Screen Studio the other day and I created this video around how you can build this really cool workflow automation with Zapier and, and with Fellow Together.

And yeah, I mean, he used the same thing.

It was incredible.

I I didn't get anyone's help to edit the video.

It just automatically did all of these things.

It's super impressive.

Yeah, very impressive to see.

100% I think too, what's really great is that something I'll I'll probably touch on a lot in this episode is that it doesn't need to be picture perfect as you're going to record it, right?

I feel like life happens really quickly and sometimes you just need to jump in and be like, this is this could be a really great piece of content.

How can I jump in and get this to a really shippable piece as quick as possible?

So just as an example right there, you can see at the very top, I kind of missed a little bit when I was cropping in the beginning.

So I can just quick quickly change that out and now it's a little bit cleaner right when I go to the background.

I can make changes if I want a more branded experience like fellow colors.

We love our purple.

So I can bring it into this really nice gradient right away.

I can also edit the cursor if I want to make sure that it's just more consistent so that you always have the pointer cursor.

They're just a lot of things that you can do on the back end to make it really clean and really shippable right away.

So that's one of the reasons I absolutely love Screen Studios.

It saves just so much time when it comes to creating video content and the the fact that you can create presets means that you can have your entire team, whether you're on marketing, whether it's someone who's in product, whether it's someone who's in CS, you can make sure that you have a really consistent output of the way that your product is being positioned across the board.

And so, you know, obviously no affiliation with Screen Studio.

It's just an awesome tool and we use it.

And so hey everyone, hope you're enjoying the episode.

1 of the common things that we hear is, hey, you all talked about all these different tools, walk through these demos.

Sometimes it's hard for me to follow along.

We decided to do recently was take all the things that we talk about, put them in a weekly newsletter.

We literally list all the tools, we link to them and any demo that we walk through, we break it down step by step, put it in this newsletter.

So it's super easy for you to follow along.

And the other nice thing is that if there's someone on your team that you think could benefit, they're working on that subject area, they could use a little bit of AI injection and into their workflow.

Send them the newsletter, send them that particular episode.

We make it super easy to do that.

It's free to sign up.

All you have to do is go to thisnewway.com, enter your e-mail address, and you'll get this weekly e-mail from us.

Hope you enjoy it.

With that said, let's go back to the episode.

Emily, thanks for showing us the first thing you were going to show us.

What are we going to see next?

Next up, I think I'd love to tell a little bit of a story if I can, with this next tool.

This tool is my secret weapon when it comes to creating content.

And I think like they say that necessity is the mother of invention.

Necessity was the mother of this tool for me, which is podcast.

So I'll tell a bit of a story.

I was creating some content in our office and I had been filming for about, I'm going to say two to three hours.

We had been creating some really, really amazing content for ads and we were using some wireless microphones.

And while they may look great, no matter how many reviews you read, there's always the chance for user error.

So I had the experience where we were filming a bunch of content.

The day was done.

I felt really great about it.

The content was great.

I went to go double check it and the microphones had died halfway through filming.

So instead of having this beautiful polished sound, it was super echoey.

We were filming in like places with really high ceilings, so like, the sound was just awful and my soul felt crushed.

I was like, Oh my gosh, we had just put so much time and effort into this and the audio is terrible.

It's not shippable.

What can I do?

And so immediately I had to kind of take a moment, be like, what's done is done.

I need to figure out a way to fix this now.

And that's how I came to the tool called Podcastle.

There are a lot of really cool things that Podcastle does, but in this specific case with my story, what I ended up doing was I took the, and this is just to give you an idea of what Podcastle can do.

You can do video editing, but you can also do audio editing.

So for example, open up the audio editor and just to give you an example, I've recorded something that sounds very similar to what it would have sounded like when I was in this particular predicament.

So you can listen to what the audio sounds like.

This is a super echoey test, so you can hear what it sounds like when I upload it into Podcastle.

So that's exactly what the audio sounded like for me.

It sounded like the microphone was a mile away.

You couldn't hear anything properly.

And then I got to discover what this AI assistant does with Podcastle.

So there are a lot of different things that you can do.

Obviously, I'm not a sound engineer, so this was such a huge help for fixing the audio.

And it doesn't have to be a small amount.

Even if it's a super long piece of audio, it'll apply the same level of quality, which is really, really great.

So you can do noise reduction, you can do audio leveling, you can remove some silences you want if you do a lot of like pausing, for example.

So it's really a very flexible tool.

But my favorite, favorite is the Magic Dust AI, which boosts the audio and the studio quality, and it also removes background noise.

And again, this is all something I probably could have figured out on the back end of like how do I fix an audio with a really echoey sound, But this just did it for me automatically.

So I'll show you the difference now.

This is a super echoey test so you can hear what it sounds like when I upload it into Podcastle.

Wow, yeah, that's incredible.

It sounds like you were in a studio.

Right, exactly.

And I think this really, even though it was the, my saving grace when it comes to saving that content, because that's what I was actually able to do was put the audio in here, pull it out with a really clean sound and then overlay it on top of the video.

So it was still usable, which was really, really great.

It saved my bacon.

But I think also this comes back to what I was talking about before, right?

Sometimes content opportunities just come up and you might not necessarily have the best microphone on hand or available.

You just need to get that piece of content in there.

Same thing with a podcast episode.

You know, sometimes you're having a conversation and you're like, wow, this could be an episode.

You don't really have to worry about whether or not you have the best microphone.

You can just record it and know that podcast will can do things on the back end.

So just really, really great in terms of being able to get things to, again, a shippable level really quickly.

Super incredible.

So you upload files, you can edit them with those preset templates.

What else can you do in here?

The next perfect up my sleeve with the podcast is the AI voices.

So there's a lot of really cool things that you can do with this.

The AI voices, this interface here is just really, really exciting because you can do a bunch of different things, one of which is you can do a voice cloning.

So if you wanted to clone your own voice, you could actually do that.

You can create a voice based on giving it your own voice and creating a digital copy so that you can seamlessly edit and create audio using a text editor, which is really great.

But in this case, I didn't really have time to create a clone of my voice.

I just needed to have an output for video content.

So I'll tell a little story.

Again, I was doing some video content for our product and I wanted a really, really seamless, A seamless overview with like a lot of detail.

But the problem is, is when I do the voice overs myself, it takes an incredible amount of time.

And because I'm a human being, obviously I'm going to fumble over, you know what it is there to say.

Even though I have a script, it's very easy to make some mistakes.

Even when you're reading something out loud, you know, it's easy to fumble on it.

And when it's half an hour of reading, that is easily going to take like an hour and a half when it comes to retaking or anything that you have to rerecord.

And even then there's a lot of testing and all this time that leads up to it.

And that's a lot of time that can be spent doing other things.

So this is where AI voices come into play.

Podcast has a lot of really different, different voices that you can use right away.

So for example, you can also go based on what you're looking for, right?

In our case, I really like Abigail.

Abigail's my voice of choice because it's got commercial advertisement, informative, educational, that's kind of her tone.

But if you wanted to do, for example, like an audio book, you know, they have other ones that have different accents and they do storytelling or if you need something that has more character, there's just a lot of flexibility when it comes to the different kinds of voices you use.

So I'll show you an example of using this voice.

So you can import an audio or video here, but you can also put in any text that you want.

So I'll take an example just one second.

I'll take an example of like a really, really long script that I want it to use because again, right, like sometimes this content, it's just it's a lot to be able to explain or sorry, be able to speak yourself and it can take a lot of time.

So I just put in an example of things that I want Abigail to talk about.

I can also add paragraphs.

I can also add other speakers if I want and then I just have to click generate.

Now again, when you think about it, I think this may take me see, it's already at 90%.

It goes so fast.

It outputs this really clean, beautiful audio file that you can use almost instantly.

And again, if you think about how long it would have taken me to read just these paragraphs, this isn't even the full script, but just these paragraphs, it would have taken me so much time.

And even if it takes a couple of minutes just to generate an audio file with an AI voice, it's super, super worth it.

So the the idea being if you are recording any sort of video content and there is going to be a voice component and you're not just ad libbing, you are reading off a script.

This is obviously way faster.

You save the time.

You don't need to spend the 30 minutes recording.

And of course when you record you can make mistakes.

And so then you have to go back and or maybe edit it.

And so yeah, it doesn't make mistakes.

It just says all the things that you type into it.

And so super handy.

What does a voice sound like?

Does it sound realistic?

I'll press play so you can listen to what it sounds like.

Topics meetings almost never happen in a straight line.

You'll start on one subject, jump to something else, circle back to the original point, and sometimes get sidetracked before returning.

Yeah, it's actually pretty good.

It's very professional.

Yeah, it's really clear sounding.

And again, even if you know, like for example, I realized like I had left topics in there, I can always edit it afterwards.

I can take that out and get it to regenerate it.

But it's always going to be a lot faster for me to have something, you know, even if I just needed to pull it out right away, I can always put like cut out that part that says topics and just make it really clean and usable right away.

Something else I will say for this too is it allows you to have again, consistency across your brand so that you don't have to worry about whether someone in product is able to do a voiceover or not or if someone in customer success is going to be doing a voiceover.

If everyone has access to this, you have access to the same voice.

So you can always have clean voiceovers and it doesn't have to be coming from one person or the other, it's coming from your companies brand.

So it just gives you a lot of options, a lot of flexibility in terms of what you can do with this tool.

Really, really exciting.

And definitely I could not do my job without having Pod Castle in my back pocket.

That's incredible.

And so putting these things together.

So you, you now have something to be able to record your screen and now you can also generate a script using AI and you can have that script being read by AI.

So how do you put all this stuff together and what can you do with this?

Now we've shown like these different skills.

So I think it makes it, the nice thing about it is there's still going to be some human element, but it when you think about all of the different steps that it took, it's realistically like 1% human.

It's just taking the video recording that you had, taking that audio file that I got from Pod Castle, overlaying them on top of each other, and then exporting that together so that you have the audio overlaid on top of the video.

And then you'll get something like this, which I will show you from the fellow YouTube channel.

Here is what it looks like in the end.

Welcome to Fellows Note Taker and AI Workspace settings.

This section focuses on Fellows AI powered features, transcription and bot customization.

And so you can see it goes through and you have a really clean, consistent output when it comes to product illustrations.

And the nice thing about AI, like you mentioned, AI doesn't make mistakes when it comes to fumbling over audio.

It doesn't get sick either.

So you don't have to worry about if someone has, you know, if their voice doesn't sound the same at when they have a cold or when they don't.

This is something you don't even have to worry about.

And again, thinking about the volume of content that you can create with this, building out a video something like this would have taken me probably 2 days maybe.

Yeah, because people who are not watching, I mean, this here is it's an 11 minute video, right?

So yeah, how long would it would this have taken before?

Yeah, an 11 minute video definitely if I'm, you know, if I'm recording it on my end in the, you know, showing the actual product, if I'm doing the audio and if I'm doing all of the animation myself, easily it could have taken me at least two days to be able to getting to a really, really finished point.

And this, this took me not even not even a few hours to be able to do this.

And this is all coming back from the time saving that you have when you have AI being able to output something that's really, really shippable really quick.

So this is super interesting.

So I guess you generate the script and then you generate the AI narrated audio file.

How do you make sure that what you're showing on screen matches is I guess the recording?

And how do you make sure the overlay works and you're clicking the right thing at the right time?

So the nice thing about having the audio, like when you if you take the script 1st and then you generate the audio file, you can use the audio file as a guide for when you're actually doing the recording.

So that'll end up saving you a lot of time on the back end.

Right.

So you press play and then you have your screen and then you click on the thing.

You're basically doing whatever, whatever you're hearing.

100% AI is basically telling me what to do, and having that as a guide on the back end means that I don't have to do as much editing afterwards.

Previously I would probably just be doing a really quick click around and then I would just add any pauses that I needed later on.

But having it guide me and have it tell me exactly what to do and knowing what I'm going to be be clicking on to next, that saves me any additional editing on the background.

So I have a shippable video and a shippable piece of of audio.

I overlay it on top.

Maybe I'll have to do a couple of very tiny tweaks, but super, super minor.

And then I just export that and have it ready to go upload it into YouTube.

Very interesting.

And and the other thing I remember you telling me is even how you generated the scripts, right?

You would start a meeting, a Google Meet or Zoom meeting or something, You would, you'd have fellow join and then yeah.

Do you want to explain that workflow?

Yeah, that's one of my favorite ways to use fellow personally.

I really use fellow like an aunt, like a personal assistant, as if I was just having a conversation in a one-on-one meeting.

So what I'll do is I'll start a call with Fellow and I'll start talking about the product in a really unrefined way.

I'll just talk about it, talk about like use cases, things that I know about it.

I can even pause it, right?

Or I can add things that I need to follow up on.

Sometimes I'll be going through a particular feature and I'll be like, oh, I need to actually follow up with product and make sure that this is actually correct.

But I will record myself talking about it.

And when I have the transcript, I literally just send that into ChatGPT.

I really need a clean, concise word script on how this feature works.

Please make sure that it's super concise and detailed and then it outputs it into a really more refined way than I could have necessarily done when it comes to talking about the product.

But the nice thing is that I don't even have to think about how I'm going to say it, how I'm going to articulate it.

It comes from really just my own product knowledge and explaining what I want to convey with the video and then ChatGPT does the rest I.

Mean this is so good.

I just want to kind of recap all the things that we've talked about because, you know, the entire point of this show is for everyone to learn the new way of working, right?

And this is like the new way to create educational video content.

So Emily starts up a call, invites fellow, literally walks through the product and talks to Fellow.

Oh, yeah, I should probably show this, and I should probably show that setting.

And that setting is this.

And then.

But, you know, it's just, it's not perfect.

There's UMS in there.

You change your mind in the middle, you take that transcript from fellow, put it into chat cheap BT it makes it a perfect script.

You take the perfect script, you put it into podcast all and it basically generates this AI voice narrating the whole thing perfectly.

You play that and then you just click around based on whatever the narrated voice says.

Screen studio animates that so it looks beautiful from the get go.

It zooms in on the right parts and everything and then you put it all together and, and, and again in a few hours you have something super professionally produced.

I mean, if you were to, yes, it would have taken you 2 days or some people might have outsourced something like this and spent a few $1000 creating this type of content and, and you're just able to do it in, you know, a matter of hours.

And and like you said, you know, the, the more you do this kind of workflow, you'll come up with other ways to create content.

Maybe now you start to think, oh, I can just take my help center content and, you know, ask chat CBD to turn that into a script.

Or, you know, I could take customer calls where someone is already explaining some things to somebody else and I can turn that into a script.

And if it's that fast to create scripts, then you can create a ton of videos and be super comprehensive.

It's mind blowing to think what you can do if you leverage all these AI tools.

A.

100% And I think that this isn't even limited to marketing teams.

This is something like a very simple workflow that you can just share with every team at your company.

And I think that there's in a different use case that can be used for either customer success or for product.

And this way, no matter what, you have content that can be shareable, it can be reproduced, and you can even take it, you know, other steps further, right?

Like if you have this really detailed, super juicy script for the video, you can take that and turn it into a blog post.

You can do so much with this content because it's so detailed and nuanced.

So there's so much that you can do with it.

It really is a workflow that's kind of just the beginning.

And there's so much more that you can grow on top of it.

It's really, it's totally, totally changed the way that I work for sure.

This is.

Great.

So Emily, thank you for showing us all this stuff.

The question we always like to end on is what are you most excited about?

Is there something that over the next year, you know it's not quite there but you think we'll be or you can't wait for something to be possible as what are you looking forward to in the next year?

I think the idea of AI agents keeps growing and keeps becoming a more and more possible thing.

We're already starting to see the very beginning of it.

But even just from what I've seen in the past year, I mean, I think you've said it before that like a week in the AI space is like the equivalent of a year of progress or something like that.

Like things change so, so rapidly.

And so I'm really, really excited to be able to see how these AI agents are going to be able to become, you know, even more refined, even more perfect than they are now.

And in order to be able to create things that are really, really mind blowing.

I mean, this feels mind blowing in and of itself.

And if you had told me, you know, a year ago that I would be able to make basically self autonomous content that requires so little input from me, I would have said you're probably crazy.

But I think that I think the idea of the AI agents, where they're going, the possibilities that are coming in the future are really, really exciting.

So I can't wait to see this time next year what I'm going to be able to do using AI work flows and how they're going to change and evolve.

Love it.

And that's, that's a great way to end it.

Emily, thanks so much for doing this.

Of course and anytime.

Thanks for having me.

And that's it for today.

Thank you so much for tuning into this episode of this new way.
