Episode Transcript
Hi, everyone, Welcome back to another episode of Astrology with Alice.
I'm your host, Alice Bell, and today we're discussing a topic I've wanted to explore for a while now, which is how to navigate career changes with astrology.
And the reason I really wanted to get into this is because in my own personal life, I've noticed, through like this business and even beforehand, how there would be certain cycles that I'd go through where there were years where I'd feel really stuck in my career, and then years where things would turn around and I'd find direction again, and then the whole process would start over.
Mean, I know through my readings I give with people, and just like talking to friends and people, I know that career is a topic that's on everyone's mind and kind of trying to figure out when there might be a change at work or when you might be going through this bigger transformation with what you want to do in your career or your overall life calling that's just like a topic that fascinates me, and I love pinning down those cycles and the timing of it.
So that's what I want to do in this episode today, is explore what transits you should be watching to see when you're being asked to go through a bigger career change, and also like when things might feel kind of stagnant or you feel stuck in a role and it might feel like that phase is never going to end for you, but I kind of want to show you how that's not the case, and like these cycles come back around every several years and offer you this new opportunity for growth and pivoting at work.
So, yeah, today we're going to be going over important transits to look for when spotting career change in your chart, and also just general planetary cycles that may show when it's time for a reset or even just like refreshing some aspect of what you're currently doing in your own business or in your role at a company.
And outside of this episode, if you're interested in going further and exploring your chart in different ways in regards to career and work and money, I have a whole section on my substack channel, Astrology with Alice, where I go into different career topics like how to interpret career interest based on your birth chart, or what does your mid heaven mean?
Or how to spot ways in which you could be good at making money based on your chart.
So if you're interested in exploring topics like these further, you can always find me on substack.
And before we get into the topic for today, just wanted to make the announcement that Libra Season monthly horoscopes are coming out on substack in a few days.
I'll also be covering all of the relevant transits for Libra season here on the podcast.
But if you want to know the breakdown of what all of the transits for the next month mean for your specific rising sign, and I go about twenty to twenty five hundred words written out per rising.
If you want to have that written guide, that's also over on substacks, So that'll be out September twenty second, And you can also listen here on the podcast for a general overview of the Libre season transits.
So before we get into timing with your chart and timing career change and bigger transitions like that, I want to rewind a bit and just go over the career oriented houses of your chart and how you can differentiate between those.
So when I'm looking at the chart and I'm noticing areas that pertain to work and career, I'm really zooming in on the second house, the sixth house, and also the tenth house and the mid Heaven, and I use whole sign houses, so sometimes the mid Heaven can be in the ninth, the eleventh, the tenth, in rare cases the eighth or twelfth.
But that's a very core part of the chart that relates back to work too.
So I want to run through themes that you can associate with each of these houses to know the difference in when transits come along and activate these different houses.
How yes, there's changes with work with all of them, but it's felt in a different way because the topics of each house are they vary.
So starting things off with this second house, this is the house of the chart that specifically relates back to money and how you want to be making money and the everyday work that you're doing to make an income for yourself.
I also think of the second house as very self starting type work, like wanting to leave a company to go start your own business or taking on freelance projects.
On this side, there's an element of this house that asks you to have greater independence and flexibility with your work, and it's also about finding the skills that you want to put forth and like how you assert yourself in your role and having greater confidence in your working skills and knowing that those skills and what you bring to the table at work are worth a set amount of money.
And I find with the second house, the more confidence you do have, and like the longer you've been working and in business, it's like uncovering those traits becomes easier and asking for what you're worth in your career, like tapping into that just gets easier over time.
And then to move on to the sixth house, this is work that is mostly done for other people or with other people, So I associate coworker relationships with the six house or client based work.
If you either if you work for yourself or you work for a company, it's like doing work that serves other people in some way, and sometimes that can literally be about finding work that makes a difference in other people's life and being of service through the work that you're doing, or like on a more minor scale, could be like having to pick up the slack for someone you work for, or having to juggle a lot of different smaller projects for clients or for co workers and feeling like I don't know, there's this element of the six House, where work can sometimes feel very tedious and like it's not advancing you to that next new chapter of your career.
But I like to reframe this and think of the six House in terms of these are necessary skills and communication type things that you need to figure out with work first, so that you have those skills moving forward in the future.
And even if it feels super boring and tedious in the moment, you'll be glad you had like those experiences with the six House once you move into bigger projects or a bigger role at work.
And one last thing I'll say about the six House is that it is also about finding this balance between like how much do I want to work whereas how much time do I want to reserve for my personal life or my mental health, and trying to strike a healthy balance between the two so that you're not overworking your self and doing too much for other people at the expense of your own self.
And then the tenth House, and you can also bring the mid Heaven in with the themes that we're about to talk about here, but the tenth House is the house that really speaks to these bigger, long term career goals that you're working towards or like your overall passion in life, and timing activations to the tenth house really bring up this feeling of what do I want to be committing to for the next several years, Like what's my niche in my career?
How can I develop better leadership skills or take on a more public facing role at work.
It's really about being seen and having the public being made aware of what you're doing in your career.
So usually transits to the tenth house are these bigger moments with work where you're getting that big break or you're pivoting to another career path altogether that feels more fulfilling.
I would also say maybe there's ways in which you want to educate yourself so that you can further advance in your career.
All of that we see come up with transits to the tenth or the mid heaven.
So now that we've gone over parts of the chart that relate back to work and money, I want to explore specific transits that really point to when you're being asked to change something at work, and that could be something more minor, like how you go about your day, like what we talked about with the six house, or it could be something a bit more major where you want to leave one career path behind altogether to do something else with your life.
So first I want to zoom in on the transits of the north and South nodes.
And I know in the last episode we went over the nodes and how they relate back to eclipses so much in depth, so that honestly might be good to re listen to to get a further picture of how the nodes function.
But for now, we're going to talk about how nodes and therefore eclipses relate to changes in career.
And the transits of the nodes always signal where you're going through the biggest change and more significant developments in your life.
So when they start to enter these workhouses the second, the sixth, and the tenth, usually you're in for bigger changes about to happen with work.
And it's also important to remember that the nodes move backwards through the signs and the houses, so it's it can be interesting to look at like, Okay, what houses are the nodes transiting through before they make it to one of the career houses.
So, for instance, before the North and South nodes move into the second and eighth houses, which would signal a time of wanting to maybe start your own business or have greater independence at your job, or find ways to bring in extra income for yourself.
We have to look back and see, Okay, the nodes are coming from the third and ninth houses right before that, so maybe there's necessary education or training that's picked up or skills that are learned which you then can use to apply to building out something related to business or advancing in your career and making more money for yourself.
So yeah, I just gave the explanation of what happens when nodes move through the second and eighth This has a lot to do with changing of finances and finding alternative sources of income, or if you already work for yourself, when this transit comes along, there can be something where you have to build something bigger in your business or change up how you structure the way you run your business.
And if you have no interest in being self employed and you're currently at a company, this nodes through the second and eighth, it really brings up this feeling of do I feel appreciated at my job?
Do I feel paid enough?
And if not, if there's not room for growth.
In that way, maybe this is a time to search for new career opportunities that do give you that paycheck you want, or that flexibility or that, I don't know, even that opening to speak up at team meetings and feel like your ideas are being valued.
And then when the nodes move into the six and twelfth houses, those bring up the topics we just went over with the sixth house, where it's like, Okay, maybe there's certain aspects of my routine and my schedule that I want to shift so that I have better balance with work, or how how might there be something in my career or another job that I feel like I have a deeper emotional connection to or I'm making a difference for other people, or just work that feels more meaningful to me.
So those can be themes that come up with this Nodle transit.
But also like looking back, Okay, the nodes were in the first and seventh houses before they moved over to the six and twelfth, so maybe they were really important new interests that you started to develop, especially with the first house eclipses, and maybe those new interests that you picked up informed you uncovering these different aspects of yourself and maybe it felt like certain parts of your identity were shifting.
And now because you feel different as a person as a result of those first house eclipses, now it's like, Okay, I'm may be more interested, i may be interested in different things when it comes to my career, which prompts that desire to make a change at work.
And also, like coming off of the first and seventh house eclipses, that's usually a year and a half to two year long period where you've gone through these major life changes in general, Like maybe that has to do with moving to a different city or like I just said, kind of figuring out different sides to your identity, or could even have to do with something as major as having a baby for instance.
And then that leads to, Okay, how do we structure my routine differently now that I'm in a new place or I have this new sense of self, or now I have a child I'm taking care of, And how does work look different?
Like how is that changing what I want my work to look like every day?
And then as well, like when the nodes move into the tenth and fourth houses of your chart, that's going to be a huge two year period where it brings up those tenth House topics of like what am I actually passionate about in my career?
How can I change things moving forward for the long term, how do I want to be known in my work?
Or is there a specific niche I can pivot into.
Yeah, I would say like the tenth House eclipses specifically bring up these more more dramatic changes that go on in your career, But then tenth thousand eclipses can also be this time of feeling more seen because of the work that you're doing and getting that attention that you've wanted in your career for a while now.
So also again like looking back at like what comes before the tenth fourth House eclipses, Well, the nodes would have been in the fifth and eleventh houses, so maybe that was a time of rediscovering creativity, networking, forming new friendships, new community, building self confidence in what you have to offer.
And then as they pivot into the tenth and fourth it's like, well, specifically the tenth because we're talking about career stuff here, it's like, how can I bring my personal creativity into my work in a bigger way, or how are those connections in that community I set up with the eleventh house eclipses, how is that now the people I met, how might they be introducing me to bigger work opportunities or how am I building a bigger audience for my business?
And also it's always important to keep in mind that when the nodes first, and are these career houses like the first six months or maybe even a year of them, being in the second six tenth or approaching the mid heaven, that's going to be the most that's going to be the most challenging in terms of like regaining your footing with career.
And it may feel like, Okay, I really want to make a change in this part of my life, but maybe that change hasn't quite played out yet or I'm still trying to figure out exactly what it is I want in this area of my life.
So like going back to like Virgo Pisce's eclipses, now they're still like at the beginning of this eclipse cycle kind of about to reach the halfway point.
And I noticed that as eclipses wrap up in these career houses, that's when it's like, Okay, I'm seeing the full picture now of what I want in my career or the changes are finally happening, and I feel a lot better about this area of my life.
So kind of the start of an eclipse cycle is harder, while the end of it is that like push that maybe you've been waiting for for a while.
Now, I want to switch gears and talk about Saturn for a little so as where eclipses and the nodes indicate where there's a lot of change going on in these bigger developments and transformation.
When Saturn in ours these same career houses of your chart second six tenth or goes over the exact degree of your mid heaven angle, things at work may feel very slow down or frustrating.
And I noticed that the second Saturn enters this new sign in this new house of your chart, the first few months of it being there, or that initial kind of phase of it before it goes retrograde for the first time in that new house, it could be like, wait, why is what I've been doing in my career up until this point, Why does it make me feel stuck or slowed down now?
Or why is it requiring so much extra effort to get things done in this part of my life?
And because Saturn spends two and a half to three years transitting through a sign in house of your chart.
You'll spend that amount of time restructuring certain elements of your own business or finding self confidence at work and learning how to assert yourself better or ask for better pay at your job.
Whereas Saturn entering the six maybe you feel so wayed down and overwhelmed by your workload and kind of stressed out by the people that you work with, or that your work just doesn't have that deeper meaning to you that it once did, and you spend that two and a half years of Satura and through the six trying to figure out, like what speaks to me more at work and once again returning to the six house topics, how can I do work that helps other people in some way or have that better everyday work life balance for myself?
And then of course Saturn entering the tenth or moving over the mid Heaven can ask you to figure out what you're truly passionate about at work, or how you might pivot in a different direction altogether in your career.
Or it could be a great time of taking on greater responsibilities and stepping into a leadership role.
However that could feel stressful at first as you adjust to a role where you're in charge of a lot more or there's a lot more weight on you coming from your career.
But yeah, it's always important to remember with Saturn, like what feels frustrating and stuck at first, slowly, over that two and a half year transit, that's an area that you're gaining a mastery over.
So by the end of that Saturn transit through a house, you can expect to feel like you've built something a lot more concrete, that feels more in line with who you are, and that will serve you for the years to come.
Also, when it comes to these more dramatic career shifts, we can look at these outer planet transits like Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, but with them because their transits occur over such a longer period of time, I really want to stress the importance of like when a planet like Saturn or one of the North and South nodes meets up with these longer transits and triggers it more fully, like for instance, when the North node moves to Aquarius next year and starts to meet up with Pluto and Aquarius.
If Aquarius happens to rule a career oriented house of your chart, like that's when you're really going to feel the effects of Pluto there because an eclipse has come along and met up with it.
It's also important to look at when do they reach the exact degree of your midhad or you're ascendant, because those two angles of the chart, and even if they're aspecting them by like an opposition or a square, meaning they're on the ic or the descendant and squaring them from another house of the chart, when these longer transits meet up with the angles, this can signal bigger changes in your sense of identity or overall life direction, which can lead you down a different career path altogether.
So like, for instance, when you're honest met up with my mid heaven degree in twenty nineteen, I have a four degree Taurus mid heaven.
That was when I left my job in fashion to be an astrologer full time.
And that was a very sudden change.
Because it's your honest, which is all about kind of unanticipated events or a series of sudden changes one after the other.
So you're really taking what are the qualities of that longer transit, So with your honest, it's change with Neptune, it can be a lot of confusion or dissolving something that once were but no longer does in order to find something more spiritual or creative.
Or with Pluto, it can be totally leaving something behind, like the death of one identity or one career path in order to find something more fulfilling.
Or it could be about bringing your personal power into your work.
So really important to note when any of those transits come into contact with Ascendant or mid Heaven and how that might be informing how you want to change something about yourself and your career.
And finally, I want to wrap up this episode by talking in general about the cycles of Mars and Saturn, because personally in my own career, I notice every two to three years or so, I feel this desire to make a change with what I'm doing with work.
Even if it's not something as dramatic as changing career paths altogether or completely changing my own business, it's still I notice.
Mars and Saturn really show when you may want to pivot in a certain area or have like a refresh on what you're doing and just kind of like new energy needs to come in.
So Mars has a little over two year cycle as it makes its way through all twelve signs of the zodiac, so a little over two years for Mars to return to the same sign and house of your chart.
But if you look at this in terms of work, like when you started a role in your career, or when you launched your own business, or even when you launch an element of your business like a podcast to promote your business or a newsletter, then two years on from the launch or starting in that new role, you may feel this desire to press the reset button or make a minor change or refresh something about your work.
Because Mars really shows what your motive, what drives you, what you're motivated to put energy towards, and every two years that might change a bit and you could feel motivated by different areas.
So that's just really important noting exact dates of work launches and how they evolve over time into year increments.
And then we can also take this on a larger scale and look at the cycles of Saturn and how Saturn makes aspects to its natal placement every seven years.
So in work, if you know that you started and a roller started your business at in a certain year, then seven years on from that, and then seven years after that again, and so on and so forth there might be this bigger need to restructure something about it in seven year increment.
So it's actually so indersing.
I started this astrology business exactly seven years ago, and this whole year has been about finding ways to restructure my business.
And I feel like I'm stepping more into a role of teaching and away from maybe some of the other elements that I used to do in my career.
So even though I'm not going anywhere, I'm still in astrology.
I love putting out content.
It's like certain elements of my business needed to be restructured at this seven year marker.
And also, yeah, going back two years and seven years just very important key time frames to note throughout your career and how things evolve like in those types of patterns.
Okay, that's all I had for today, but thank you again for listening.
And like I said at the start, if you're interested in exploring the topic of career and your birth chart further or timing that involves career, I have several different articles about those topics over on substacks, so feel free to check it out there.
If not, I'll see you back here in a few days for the Libra season.
