We're back with Cracking head coach Lane Lambert.
Congratulations on your first win as head coach of the Crack, and just take us through that sixty minute performance.
You mentioned after the game the team got better, you liked it as it went on.
What are your overall thoughts in that performance the other night.
Speaker 2Yeah, you know, I thought, again, we had a slow start, you know, for whatever reason, can maybe pinpoint two or three things whatever, but we just weren't executing.
And so our goaltender played very well for us when he had to early on, and I thought as the game went on, we settled in a little bit better.
We were more sound defensively, we were making some plays, and you know, the last half of the game, I thought, I thought we took over the game in the last half, and that was a nice sign, good, good thing to see.
And the other thing that I enjoyed about the game was that when we did get the lead, you know, we.
Speaker 3Didn't sit back.
We kept on our toes and we kept pressing forward.
Speaker 2So we had some pretty good opportunities to make it four and five.
Speaker 1One of those situations going into the second period, those intermission adjustments.
Is this a coach to player conversation.
Do you let the guys kind of figure it out?
How do you manage those situations when you're down a goal, down a couple of goals, you didn't play your best period?
How do you manage that message from one period.
Speaker 3To the next.
Speaker 2Well, I mean, if you're talking about in between the first and second period, it was just clear we just weren't.
Speaker 1You know.
Speaker 2It wasn't anything to do with you know, systematical stuff.
It was execution which created opportunities for them.
I think they did a pretty good job of talking amongst themselves.
Speaker 3Obviously I tried.
Speaker 2To calm them down, which you know, which I thought I felt was important.
There was no point in going in there and you know, giving them more stress, you know.
But then from there, I thought we made some pretty decent adjustments after the second period, two hundred breakouts which helped us for the third period.
Speaker 3And those are coach player adjustments.
Speaker 1You talked a lot of the preseas and you still continue to preach accountability and hard work and that work ethic.
And we look at the second and third period when the game plan is being executed to its best ability.
Is that the type of hockey that we expect to see from a Ley Lambert Coast team.
Speaker 2Well, yeah, when it's when it's being executive, you know, again, things happen.
It's a game of mistakes.
You know, there's going to be situations where you know you're maybe not at your best.
But as long as the effort is there for me and I think that you know, you're you're understanding what it is we want to do as a player.
You know, I think you'll overall in the long haul.
And it's a long journey.
I mean, that was only one game.
You know, you've got to eat one of the games left.
So it was extremely nice to win the game, but that's over now we have to move on to tonight.
And you know, when you're when you're seeing guys doing things that that you want to see done with with an effort level, that's really all you can ask for and then just you feel like if you do that, you'll, uh, you'll have more success than not.
Speaker 1Looking at Vegas, they've taken three or four points so far this season.
Uh, they're a team that the Kraken have always struggled a little bit against to find their stride and find their game.
But what do you notice about them and watching their first couple of games and what they can present to this team tonight.
Speaker 3Well, they're look at they're a talented hockey team.
Speaker 2They're a deep hockey team in terms of a lineup, in their depth, and they're a big hockey team.
And uh, you know that's gonna be the challenge tonight is really it's gonna be a lot about you know, winning balance, keeping them from getting to our net, us getting to that.
Speaker 3He's their big decor.
So this is, uh, this is really the focus is You've got to be prepared to play a man's game.
Team.
Speaker 1I think you more than probably anyone in this building tonight knows Mitch Marter uh well and best.
What about him makes him such a special player, makes him so dangerous he comes over from Toronto and signs that long term deal here in Vegas.
What about him just makes him such an incredible talent player?
Speaker 2Well, he's just he's he's got he's got a he's got a lot of everything.
He's you know, no disrespect to any other players that have coached.
Speaker 3I've coached a lot of smart players, he is arguably the smartest.
Speaker 2Uh sees the game, sees things happening before it happens.
Uh, his anticipation anticipation level is extreme, and uh, you know, he hunts and hounds.
He's he's a dynamic hockey player that does a lot of things well.
Speaker 1To catch any of the Mariners game last night, I know Josh Naylor at the end, he was in the locker room in the crack in Third Jersey.
I mean, it's got to feel good to come to a city and have the fans buzzing early.
Yeah, not only for Krack and hockey, but for the Marriagers as well.
Speaker 3I think it's awesome.
Speaker 2You know, the fact that he you know, he was here and the and the team, you know, a good portion of the team and the manager here for the one of our exhibition games.
Uh, you know, they think they were down.
They had a little tour of the room and and they were loving that.
And and the fact that you know, they're as into our game as we are into their game and their run right now is a really cool thing.
You know.
Speaker 3It's great for the city, it's great for the fans of.
Speaker 2Both teams, and uh, you know, and again I've I've talked about it before.
The you know, it's a sports city like the Seahawks, Sounders, you know, Stone, everybody, great fans support.
Speaker 3So I did watch the game.
Speaker 2It went on a little long for me, you know, but I did stay invested right until the very end.
And uh, you know, I mean, hats off to them, and you know, they're moving on and what a great thing.
Speaker 3And it was really awesome to see him with the jersey on.
That's awesome.
