[SPEAKER_00]: Initially, Casey was very disappointed with the part, which he felt any extra could have played, but then director Jonathan West told Casey that the writers had big plans for Demar and as such, West shot him as if he were a major character with plenty of close ups and reactions shot.

[SPEAKER_04]: There were a lot of hero shots of him.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: Tom Banco's original idea for this episode came from the question of what may happen if the Jews and the Nazis were forced to work together after World War II.

[SPEAKER_00]: So that's part of his story, pitch and what they did.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now, in Hans Bimla's original teleplay, Dukat and Kira beam across to the Klingon ship, they overpower the bridge crew and subsequently pacify the entire ship.

[SPEAKER_00]: Director Jonathan West felt that this was a slightly ridiculous conclusion that viewers would never buy.

[SPEAKER_00]: One Kardashian and [SPEAKER_00]: One Bajoran, overpowering a ship of sixty-cling-on warriors, West, however, was unsure what to replace the fighting with until Assistant Director B.C.

[SPEAKER_00]: Cameron suggested that Kira and Dakot beam to engineering, take control of the transporters and switch crews.

[SPEAKER_00]: She and West approached her on her Steven Bear, who wasn't entirely happy about losing the Ashympac conclusion, but who acquiesced in the end.

[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was a great idea.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, transport switches, crews, and then fires on his old ship and blows it up.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it's very great idea.

[SPEAKER_03]: Like a little homage to that.

[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe BC had that in the back of her mind.

[SPEAKER_03]: So I watched it twice.

[SPEAKER_02]: Here is getting her vaccines, vaccinations, because she's going to this remote Kardashian outpost.

[SPEAKER_02]: I love this little detail with you and said the the the banter was great and you get your shots.

[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of shots by the way.

[SPEAKER_02]: How many are there like?

[SPEAKER_02]: Well, for something.

[SPEAKER_03]: She has told me that.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's a lot, a lot.

[SPEAKER_04]: It's, and I love worth coming in and looking at me as, as if I already have thrown up all over myself.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.

[SPEAKER_04]: You slightly disgusted by the entire thing.

[SPEAKER_02]: But it does show us, because the last episode we saw was, it's the one where Odo, Odo is basically in love with you, and Chicago comes on the ship.

[SPEAKER_02]: It is crossfire.

[SPEAKER_00]: Crossfire, crossfire.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, the last episode did not, we saw crossfire was when Chicago comes on the ship and you two, this romance, even though you were terrorists together, this romance begins, and it's just breaking Odo's heart, and I love the episode.

[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I thought Renee did a phenomenal job and it was, it was just heartbreaking to see Odo, just suffering as you and Chicago are getting more and more romantic.

[SPEAKER_02]: But, uh, but this, but this carries that over, which I love about your show that your, your show, unlike Voyager, your show really continues these story threads in a great way.

[SPEAKER_02]: So, [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Shikar buttered you up, got you to agree, and you're going to go share a clean-on intelligence, and Wurf comes in, says, you know what, you shouldn't share all the clean-on secrets, and gives her the secret pad of things not to share, I guess.

[SPEAKER_02]: And as that happens, we see that she's getting a little sick.

[SPEAKER_02]: And I love to run off to the bathroom.

[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my, where's that bathroom?

[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.

[SPEAKER_02]: So there is a little bit of integrity, I guess, that I was surprised by what's it caught.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he sort of takes responsibility.

[SPEAKER_04]: Is it is it that?

[SPEAKER_04]: Because is it?

[SPEAKER_04]: Is it integral or?

[SPEAKER_04]: the that he is completely ego driven and if he feels like you know he's got nothing to have ego about he's just like a ground zero with the rest of us because I think that's the great [SPEAKER_04]: arc that they do you go oh here he's kind of a broken man and he's being more honest and he's he's thoughtful and he doesn't blame her oh he's got a chance this could be redemption but then you see when he gets the chance to come back it's all wrong yeah yeah he does say at the end of this scene he says you know i'll get back everything i lost it's just a matter of time so he does set up his [SPEAKER_04]: And Mark, Alimo with the look in his eye, it's not a hopeful, happy thought.

[SPEAKER_04]: It's a vengeful thought.

[SPEAKER_04]: So you, which is great.

[SPEAKER_04]: That's like some, because his face barely moves, but you know that's what he's thinking.

[SPEAKER_04]: Because his eyes tell you everything.

[SPEAKER_03]: And it's so, he's so well written.

[SPEAKER_03]: And he plays it.

[SPEAKER_03]: masterfully.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, there's times you're like, I really like him.

[SPEAKER_03]: I want to root for him and then he ruins it and you're [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we just have it.

[SPEAKER_03]: He is a roller coaster ride.

[SPEAKER_00]: Probably when you talk about the integrity that you see rare, this rare integrity, it's also, let's just also keep in mind that Decott has always had the hotse for Kira.

[SPEAKER_00]: So everything he does is manipulative, I think, to try to make her [SPEAKER_00]: Join his bed in a way, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: So really, yeah.

[SPEAKER_03]: And he's a narcissist.

[SPEAKER_03]: So he's always aiming to come on top of all of it, right?

[SPEAKER_03]: He's the hero in his own mind.

[SPEAKER_04]: It was more of a film tone that she was doing this thing.

[SPEAKER_04]: She does seem very vulnerable and not for our world.

[SPEAKER_03]: That felt like it didn't go with the show.

[SPEAKER_00]: You did not have that note when she first was introduced as that character in the prior episode.

[SPEAKER_02]: It's not a big deal.

[SPEAKER_02]: It was just a small note, but I was just like, I did struggle with it.

[SPEAKER_02]: I was expecting her to turn on Carol later on.

[SPEAKER_02]: It was so protective in the scenes with you, especially early on that I was like, [SPEAKER_03]: It's not really good.

[SPEAKER_03]: It's [SPEAKER_03]: but it wasn't the same.

[SPEAKER_00]: Basically, Terry, yes, if she should have been much more relaxed when she sees Kira because, Kira is the reason why she's alive.

[SPEAKER_00]: Without Kira, the con was going to kill her.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?

[SPEAKER_00]: So I feel like, yeah, they were she said.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm safe.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is the one woman.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is the one person who gets me.

[SPEAKER_00]: And if that layer was added, it would have been a more complete performance for sure.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_03]: And especially that she was so harshly ostracized.

[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.

[SPEAKER_02]: Well, she says she wasn't.

[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't get that.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, she says I wasn't welcome by the Kardashians when I got back home.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_02]: So now I just go wherever my dad goes.

[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's something that overwhelms you emotionally, the relief to have that support with you.

[SPEAKER_03]: So I think instead of being that very airy fairy kind of vibe, I think it would have been much more kind of the connection with you.

[SPEAKER_02]: I think it would have helped your story, too, no, no.

[SPEAKER_02]: If that had been an actress who just had life came alive when she saw Kira.

[SPEAKER_02]: Kira, the protector and take her back to do.

[SPEAKER_02]: It was her hero.

[SPEAKER_02]: That could have helped the story about it.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but I can see it a couple of different ways.

[SPEAKER_04]: I liked her performance because she did seem like she was in a shell, but after all, that's what trauma does.

[SPEAKER_02]: asteroid goes boom but here's not happy it needs an improving because there's some plasma leaks and the recoil things like that so they go to repair the plasma leaks and cure works on her pads and things like that while do caught just [SPEAKER_04]: her consoles and pads on the computer right computer stuff which which was brilliant because I noticed that it gave Jonathan the opportunity to not only get us in different positions in one scene with very limited you know it was all kind of just dark but it also made do caught follow kira [SPEAKER_04]: And then that was, so I went, oh, that's why I've got a pad.

[SPEAKER_04]: It's kind of cool.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_02]: It was nice because I noticed in this scene, his eyes were on you constantly.

[SPEAKER_02]: He was following you and delivering right to you and you were not paying attention.

[SPEAKER_03]: you were doing your job and it it made for a nice contrast as opposed to just standing there looking at each other talking with us would have been deadly yeah and I liked the darkness it was a rich I loved it too yeah it was so rich and and deep um not only what you guys were going through making it happen but just the energy being dark and [SPEAKER_03]: kind of creepy and at the same time weirdly safe because it did.

[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, literally it was so film-nourished.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's a lumbering, simplistic field hand, is what Dakot calls.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because he's so jealous, and he wants to be Mr.

Kira that he wants to say everything against Chikar.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, my God.

[SPEAKER_02]: But he says they make an excellent team.

[SPEAKER_02]: And he brings this up more than once in the episode.

[SPEAKER_02]: And in this moment, it's like, no, I know what I need to do.

[SPEAKER_02]: That's how I read this performance.

[SPEAKER_03]: It was her aha moment.

[SPEAKER_04]: It was an aha moment.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[SPEAKER_04]: I think that is where I went.

[SPEAKER_02]: She shouldn't be here.

[SPEAKER_02]: It was honoring both herself and honoring him in a way, even though he didn't.

[SPEAKER_02]: And then the theater and this particular theater teacher, professor, person at the community college or something, got him doing Shakespeare scenes.

[SPEAKER_02]: So he didn't come to that.

[SPEAKER_02]: that speech, that style of speech because of Wisconsin and Atom.

[SPEAKER_02]: No.

[SPEAKER_02]: Life, he came through Shakespeare and this community theater professor, and he did a lot of Shakespeare.

[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you can feel that polish that Shakespeare work gave him.

[SPEAKER_03]: Storytelling, it saves lives.
