[SPEAKER_02]: Just kidding.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, guys.
[SPEAKER_00]: Guess what?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: A fan named Terry Farrell, who flew with the Delta Flyer.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right, what?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: She didn't make her patch.
[SPEAKER_01]: Go, let's step back to step.
[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think?
[SPEAKER_01]: The fan's name is Terry Farrell.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like your name.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, spelled it exactly like my name.
[SPEAKER_01]: Second of all, you just said she flew with the Delta Flyers.
[SPEAKER_01]: What is the Delta Flyer?
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, but it says Delta Flyers, Terry Farrell, but she gave me her patch.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so Max Kaiserman.
[SPEAKER_00]: from Luna Rapplicas.
[SPEAKER_00]: So if you want any NASA Rapplicas, go to Luna Rapplicas.
[SPEAKER_00]: Max Kaiserman, the owner of it, gave me a night, I think it's a 1966 flight jacket and maybe a little leather patch.
[SPEAKER_00]: But he can give me a patch that says Terry Farrell with like some really cool emblem that, you know, because I don't know military things I don't know what it means, but that Terry dealt a flyer Terry Farrell patch has Velcro on the back and it fits on it.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're official, you're the most official of this podcast.
[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to find you get patches.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have a flight jacket or a patches.
[SPEAKER_00]: I bought special black pants and a groovy boots to wear with that jacket.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you got to complete the look.
[SPEAKER_02]: I can't wait to see that jacket.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's so nice of you.
[SPEAKER_02]: I've maxed my eyes have been maxed Kaiserman.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you're listening, don't forget Robbie and myself.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Luna Rapplicas.com.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you so feel like you want to throw something our way and hook a couple of dudes up, please, we're not going to complain, Max, guys, or men.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's at groovy gray.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, nice.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it fits so good.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's so cozy.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they're super well made.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it feels like official.
[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're not Shawty.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're really nice.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think we have birthdays, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, we've got some birthdays to talk about.
[SPEAKER_01]: First of all, Holly Schmidt, on November 3rd, happy birthday, Holly.
[SPEAKER_00]: Happy birthday, Holly.
[SPEAKER_00]: Happy birthday, Holly.
[SPEAKER_00]: Jeremiah Brown, November 3rd, happy birthday, Jeremiah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Happy birthday, Jeremiah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Happy birthday, Jeremiah.
[SPEAKER_02]: On November 5th, happy birthday to Mingshia.
[SPEAKER_00]: Mingshia, happy birthday.
[SPEAKER_01]: Happy birthday, Ming.
[SPEAKER_01]: And our last birthday is Janet Kay Harlow.
[SPEAKER_01]: On November 9th, that's my birthday, too.
[SPEAKER_01]: Happy birthday, Janet.
[SPEAKER_00]: Happy birthday, Janet.
[SPEAKER_02]: Happy birthday, Chef Janet.
[SPEAKER_02]: or I say chef Janay, if it's a big extra day.
[SPEAKER_02]: Actually fancy.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, you got, oh, you're right.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, woo, love it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Love it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And my birthday is on November 19th.
[SPEAKER_02]: At 10 days and there you are, wow.
[SPEAKER_00]: Happy birthday, Terry.
[SPEAKER_02]: Right, yeah, and happy birthday to Robbie.
[SPEAKER_02]: It is time for Poetry Synopsis with Robbie McNeill's Limeriz.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, and Teraphair's brought one today.
[SPEAKER_00]: It is a crazy day.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're excited.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Go, Robbie.
[SPEAKER_01]: Limerick goes a little something like this.
[SPEAKER_01]: A gemhadar squad meets our Starfleet crew and teamwork with something brand new.
[SPEAKER_01]: Trust was needed real soon.
[SPEAKER_01]: Things go bad for weigh-in in a war game that no one could undo.
[SPEAKER_01]: Very nice.
[SPEAKER_01]: Good job.
[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, how I got rhymed weigh-in.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was real soon.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's amazing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
[SPEAKER_00]: My poetry is not quite as complete as yours.
[SPEAKER_00]: My poem for [SPEAKER_00]: He slithers in a king cobra, facing a black panther.
[SPEAKER_00]: Neither gives their ground, can commonality be found?
[SPEAKER_00]: They fight together to win, letting a new world of pain in.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're always so deep they are.
[SPEAKER_00]: Is that deep?
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, there's so much more to come.
[SPEAKER_00]: I bet there is.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's very powerful.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's, you know, you got your message across.
[SPEAKER_00]: God, he was like a snake and then he was like a cat in his performance.
[SPEAKER_00]: Jeff comes performance was spectacular.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, agreed.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it made the whole episode just wow.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's riveting.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I agree.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is my high coup for to the death.
[SPEAKER_02]: Deep space nine attacked, search for Jim Hadar rebels.
[SPEAKER_00]: very nice.
[SPEAKER_00]: Very Shakespearean said a poor york.
[SPEAKER_02]: I threw away you there.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I know it's but sometimes you have to say those words you never say in real life.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: In a poem.
[SPEAKER_02]: In a poem.
[SPEAKER_02]: And also because of our men loving Shakespeare, I thought, you know what?
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll throw a little Shakespearean here.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, written by I was Stephen Bear and Robert Hewitt Wolf directed heroes.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, we love these guys directed by Lavar Burton our friend.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, he's so great.
[SPEAKER_02]: It a good job for sure guest stars.
[SPEAKER_02]: We have Brian Thompson [SPEAKER_02]: as to Montroc better you say it than me to my I had to go back and rewind that one to Montroc um but it's crazy because Brian Thompson no matter what alien makeup he has on you know those cheekbones they're just yeah I mean he's just so prominent what's he the hothead yes yes he's [SPEAKER_00]: he looks super handsome.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, you know what, he's ruggedly handsome is what I'm going to say.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[SPEAKER_00]: And very, I can really how much bigger than what he was.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, he's so if you saw his body, he was scary.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's really, really super cut and super super good shape.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've been talking a lot about very handsome actors in our podcast.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, here's anything.
[SPEAKER_01]: It seems like a pattern.
[SPEAKER_02]: But Robbie, remember that list that I saw the actor from yesterday?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: The last episode had maybe the most handsome Asian actor in the world.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god.
[SPEAKER_02]: He was like a kid doll.
[SPEAKER_02]: He was like a Asian Kendall.
[SPEAKER_02]: He was so [SPEAKER_02]: strikingly handsome, it was crazy.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's on this list of like, it says like, you know, a gen's list of handsome and rugged men.
[SPEAKER_02]: And there's 243 actors on there, including people like Tom Cruise and other people we've worked with before and that we know.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I said, but Robby and I are not on there, but this guy was for the last episode was, and definitely definitely Brian Thompson should be on that list of one of the 243 bodies not.
[SPEAKER_02]: So.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we're going to make our own list.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're going to make our list.
[SPEAKER_01]: We talk about enough handsome actors on this show.
[SPEAKER_01]: We do.
[SPEAKER_02]: That we can make the Weber.
[SPEAKER_02]: Stephen Weber, I'll be on that list too.
[SPEAKER_02]: Scott Haven is another guest star.
[SPEAKER_02]: He played Caracara.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's the one that was observing you.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he was great.
[SPEAKER_00]: Wasn't he?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was that was not an easy.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that kind of part is an easy part to play.
[SPEAKER_00]: No.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's harder to have that stoic thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Very much so with the tons of.
[SPEAKER_02]: With tons of makeup on too, very difficult.
[SPEAKER_00]: And of course, I think the makeup just gives you so much though.
[SPEAKER_00]: When people say, oh, that's so hard with the makeup.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the makeup is part of the character.
[SPEAKER_00]: So there's stuff you don't have to do because it's.
[SPEAKER_00]: all over there.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Of course.
[SPEAKER_02]: The other guest star is the lovely and talented Mr.
Jeffrey Combs as way you and four.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that's his credit.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I don't understand why they didn't win it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't know that was come back.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's as way in five.
[SPEAKER_00]: or is this it for him.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't we don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: We don't watch it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I do too because you know what?
[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of got busy with other things.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I didn't really pay attention to this hole.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he made him more.
[SPEAKER_00]: So this is exciting for me.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's what confused me because I've seen a lot of press photos with him in there with his image his face and I thought wow he's he's definitely going to be in there a several episode arc and then we don't know he's in this one I'm like what I was I and that's I was shot killed and then I kept thinking well that's possible because he did such a great performance in this one episode that stands alone as as the Mount Rushmore of guest star performances.
[SPEAKER_00]: He should have won an Emmy for that, honestly.
[SPEAKER_01]: He was so good.
[SPEAKER_01]: If the title or his credit is way in four, and there is a way in five and a way in six and a way in one, and he should die every time he gets to the end of the day.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I think that four was maybe added in kind of like, you know, posthumously like it wasn't in their own way.
[SPEAKER_02]: So, but still, your idea, thank you.
[SPEAKER_02]: I had the exact same thought, Robbie, your idea.
[SPEAKER_02]: I thought he could be the Kenny, you know, Kenny, he's basically like Kenny.
[SPEAKER_02]: On South Park, he dies in every single episode.
[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Who is our special guest star?
[SPEAKER_02]: the absolutely amazing Clarence Williams III.
[SPEAKER_02]: As ometic-clone, I love that name, ometic-clone, it's very beautiful.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's beautiful.
[SPEAKER_00]: He was outstanding, wasn't he?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it is trivia time.
[SPEAKER_02]: So this is the very first appearance of the Vorta since the season three episode, the search part two, and this is definitely the very first appearance of the wonderful way you know.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, [SPEAKER_02]: According to Robert Hewitt Wolf, to the death was written specifically to give the gem Hadar, more depth, quote from Robert Hewitt Wolf, our intention was to show that the more you learn about them, the less you want to be around them.
[SPEAKER_02]: So he was talking about how, you know, in the Star Trek universe, Klingons used to always be thought of as, oh, they're dangerous, they're warriors, but the more you learn about Klingons, the more you like them, the more you want to be around them.
[SPEAKER_00]: because they're honorable.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, they've got a lot of cool things about them that people don't, you know, they gloss over.
[SPEAKER_00]: Virtues.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: They have virtues, even though they approach it in a caveman way.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, the Geminar have virtues too, but they're just bent on death and destruction.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's their whole motivation.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's it, until they die.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they, and to reach 20 years old, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: And that scene with the, we have our, oh, and that he was eight, eight years old.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, what?
[SPEAKER_02]: And the look he had on his face.
[SPEAKER_02]: that you were over 300, the look on that crowning.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it was so good.
[SPEAKER_02]: You played it well.
[SPEAKER_02]: I loved it.
[SPEAKER_02]: I loved it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's continue with this trivia.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, quickly we have Lavar who was very integral in the casting of Clarence Williams III because that was his long-time friend.
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank goodness.
[SPEAKER_00]: He was perfection in that part.
[SPEAKER_02]: He was.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, both Lavar Burton and First ADBC Cameron found this episode extremely [SPEAKER_02]: A lot of these, uh, the fight scenes that we see later were on top of Griffith Park, a very high promontory point where base camp was so far back that anytime someone went back to down the base camp to do anything, they had to wait forever to get those people back up talking about just to go to the bathroom.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, they had like 35 stunt doubles.
[SPEAKER_01]: and all the makeup, all the prosthetic makeup.
[SPEAKER_00]: And if you think it's hard to get out of our spacesuits, imagine those costumes for the gem Hedarga.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, my gosh.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yep, yep.
[SPEAKER_02]: So a lot of time issues, so very difficult.
[SPEAKER_02]: Lastly, in trivia, we have the fact that this episode was cut for violence.
[SPEAKER_02]: Which is of first for the series for DS9 as a series and also possibly for start trick itself that we have an actual Elimination of certain scenes because of the violence factor and it did receive a 15 rating we've talked about 15 ratings in the UK Received it in the UK.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it just seemed like our show.
[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't even occur to me that it was too much.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and imagine if they were to show blood, right, Robbie, this would be like at 25 rating, then it's like, Oh, yeah, that exists in our there's so much blood shed that should have, they didn't show all the graph as it could have been way more graphic.
[SPEAKER_02]: Then it was, you know, because the 90s you can't get away with that, obviously.
[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like when you talk about all the violence that was cut, it feels that way to me.
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, spoiler alert, I'm probably going to be the least fan of this episode out of the three of us.
[SPEAKER_01]: This was not, I'll just lead with that.
[SPEAKER_01]: This was not one of my favorites, although I love Jeffrey Combs.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I did feel like the fighting felt really chopped up and confusing to me, you know?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there was an affluidity too.
[SPEAKER_01]: And no, not affluidity at all.
[SPEAKER_01]: And so it makes sense what you're staying Garrett, that there was a lot more.
[SPEAKER_01]: that they had to take out.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's why it feels chopped up because it does.
[SPEAKER_01]: It feels because it was.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: When I did Chuck, we won a bunch of Emmys for stunts on that show.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was always, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it was always really important to me as we were breaking prepping these episodes.
[SPEAKER_01]: because there was always action sequences, but I would tell the directors like we have to make the action sequence has to be part of our story and it needs to stand alone as its own story.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the action comes out of the bigger story.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Within that action sequence, you need to be getting middle and end.
[SPEAKER_01]: Do you need to just have fighting that doesn't have an arc to it and tell the story?
[SPEAKER_01]: And this, so back to this episode, I felt like every time there was, [SPEAKER_01]: action or fighting.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, where's?
[SPEAKER_01]: What?
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, where's the story?
[SPEAKER_01]: Where is this?
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm used about geography about who's in jeopardy, who's not in jeopardy, where people are coming from.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just always kind of a little [SPEAKER_01]: haphazard to me.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, a little chaos chaos in an unorganized way without a story without kind of the beginning middle and end of we're going to go into this battle.
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, we're in trouble.
[SPEAKER_01]: Things look bad.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to do a clever thing to get us out.
[SPEAKER_01]: There should be a story within every action sequence.
[SPEAKER_00]: Even going into battle, we're going to fight side by side.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then I'm thinking, how am I going to be able to tell who are the good Jim Hadar?
[SPEAKER_01]: I had the same thought.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like have a [SPEAKER_00]: a patch or an emblem or something.
[SPEAKER_01]: To the human, to our starfleet people, they can't tell the difference between the stars.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they should have thought of that when they were prepping for this mission.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, just so we can know that your our gem had our, why don't you wear this belt or band or something, base paint to cross this something.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I had the same thought.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the action in this episode was a little sloppy.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let me elaborate a little bit on this cutting of, of, of, of, of, of, please do.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, please do.
[SPEAKER_02]: According to Irish Stephen Bear, 45 seconds of hand-to-hand combat was cut prior to the episode being screened.
[SPEAKER_02]: This displeased bear a great deal, quote, that really hurt the show.
[SPEAKER_02]: We built up to this battle, and now it's just perfunctory.
[SPEAKER_02]: The fans who wrote letters on the internet saw that the rhythms were thrown off.
[SPEAKER_02]: and quote, similarly unimpressed with stunt coordinator, Dennis Madalone, quote, in the first edited version, 52 Jim Hadar had been killed.
[SPEAKER_02]: Dax had killed 10 in Cisco had killed seven, but when the sensors got hold of it, they took out over 32 Jim Hadar deaths.
[SPEAKER_02]: So, while or then half of the deaths were gone after these sensors took hold of this.
[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
[SPEAKER_00]: Isn't it amazing that we shoot so much film that it well exceeds the time and you only have 42 minutes to tell the story.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's why it's kind of frustrating when these kinds of things happen.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's not unlike a commercial where a commercial every second counts you only have 30 seconds or 60 seconds to tell your story beginning middle and end.
[SPEAKER_00]: 42 minutes in a drama and action sci-fi drama.
[SPEAKER_00]: is not any time.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's so short.
[SPEAKER_02]: You need at least a full 60.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's all these shows should be an hour and a half long.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: All of that really.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: All of them.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go back and redo it all one hour and a half long.
[SPEAKER_02]: Diaz.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Great.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's dive into the plot of this thing.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we start with the captain's [SPEAKER_01]: And Cisco says, after driving away, brain privateers from the Jordan colony of free haven, we're returning to Deep Space Nine.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it sounds like we started this episode.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've had this big, you know, fight with privateers, brain privateers, and now we're going to come back to a nice calm space station.
[SPEAKER_01]: Or are we?
[SPEAKER_01]: We cut into the mess hall of the defiant.
[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't even know that the defiant had a mess hall.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
[SPEAKER_00]: It's new.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's new.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: But remember how tiny it was when we first got on and doesn't it grown?
[SPEAKER_00]: It's very big.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: They went from what we just got it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody did fit.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: It just has it's expanded outwards.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: We have a model, but the ship looks the same.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I do want to bring this up.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, bro.
[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: This, Robbie, this episode to me, especially with these new mess hall scenes.
[SPEAKER_02]: was so reminiscent of Voyager because we always have those scenes in the mess hall where multiple people are sitting around the table and it may it's so that's another reason why I love this episode because it may be feel very comfortable in terms of what I'm used to from Voyager because well most of this episode is on the defiant so it's like a space ship yeah yeah so that's another reason why I love this episode I like it too.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like how this was and made sure it was integrated into your show.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's gotta be things that they've thought.
[SPEAKER_00]: We love this about next generation.
[SPEAKER_00]: We love this about Deep Space Nine.
[SPEAKER_00]: What can we pull what we like from those and make it better on Voyager?
[SPEAKER_00]: Because I mean, as I've shared, I've now watched some of your shows.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know you're breaking amazing.
[SPEAKER_00]: Your show overall is a great show.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, so great show.
[SPEAKER_00]: I am so excited.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm so excited.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just can't believe it could be so long to start watching it.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what this podcast has done for a lot of people and for Garrett and I like we went back and watch our show in ways we'd never in a detail.
[SPEAKER_01]: And now we'll get it to know your show.
[SPEAKER_01]: and your characters and all the actors, it's great.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, just what you're saying, Avery, I miss him so much.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: So solid, he's great in this episode.
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it too, not that I didn't, I'm sure you guys can appreciate this, not that I didn't think my co-stars were very talented and [SPEAKER_00]: Wonderful to watch.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I think there's some nostalgia watching it again too, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: That you're so busy doing that you don't have time to appreciate it so much.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yeah, but to step back now 30 years later and watch it and think, oh, wow.
[SPEAKER_00]: look at what we did.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's so great.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is great.
[SPEAKER_02]: Every time you watch an episode Terry, it's like a high school reunion for you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we're in the mess hall.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've had this adventure with a brain.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're heading back.
[SPEAKER_01]: So some small talk banter here.
[SPEAKER_01]: Dax is telling Miles about when she was Lila Dax and she was a mom.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then Bashir arrives, gives some parenting advice because [SPEAKER_01]: we learn or we hear that he was first in his class in pediatric medicine.
[SPEAKER_01]: Of course he is.
[SPEAKER_00]: But he's never been a parent.
[SPEAKER_02]: Look on a Brian's face is hilarious.
[SPEAKER_02]: When he says that, you know, first in my class in pediatric medicine and then Brian's like, almost the role of the eye.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like good for you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and then Bashir sits down with them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Dax once him about the seed.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's he's chosen.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's worth seed.
[SPEAKER_01]: He really likes it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like the moment where she says, I don't think you should sit down there.
[SPEAKER_01]: And he looks around and goes, why did Miles bill something?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's pretty funny.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's very funny.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it was so great, too, when Wolf comes in.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Or orders the brim juice.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love the brun juice, large.
[SPEAKER_00]: And how bishop hand fills it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like for a moment, he's going to try to stand as ground.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then he's like, no.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I got to give in.
[SPEAKER_00]: Commander, have a seat.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then he moves.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was just beautiful.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, my God.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Cisco gets makes a call to them and says all senior staff report to the bridge immediately.
[SPEAKER_01]: They walk into the bridge.
[SPEAKER_01]: and everyone including myself is in shock because DS9 is missing.
[SPEAKER_01]: basically an entire pile on the upper pile on.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was crazy.
[SPEAKER_01]: Very shocking.
[SPEAKER_01]: We go to our title sequence.
[SPEAKER_01]: We love your title sequence, Terry.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's so beautiful.
[SPEAKER_00]: They upgraded it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, they did.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's great.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's real.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know I had to see my name this time.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, you know what?
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to, I usually skip it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: But you ever was, while you just want to see your name on the screen to go, look, my name was on the screen.
[SPEAKER_01]: I just sometimes don't skip it because I just want to hear the music and it's really beautiful.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, and because of you, Garrett, I paid attention this episode to the music and I think it's different.
[SPEAKER_00]: Imagine right being a composer, composing every episode.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Holy cow.
[SPEAKER_00]: The whole orchestra work, gorgeous.
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for pointing that out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Of course.
[SPEAKER_01]: We come back after the credits and there we are in a corridor.
[SPEAKER_01]: Kira is caring for injured people.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's dead people.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a big mess.
[SPEAKER_01]: Quark comes running in, panicking about rom.
[SPEAKER_01]: Where's rom?
[SPEAKER_01]: Where's rom?
[SPEAKER_01]: Kira tells him she saw him.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's just fine.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then Quark's pissed off.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's just gonna kill him for scaring me like this.
[SPEAKER_02]: very funny turn from arm and he sound different to you character wise like to me it was the one he's non-cork I've ever heard him speak he's emotional I guess I know this is good because it's a little picture into how we actually really does care about his brother [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they can't do it too off.
[SPEAKER_00]: In other ways, it takes away from his ferngy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, greed and, yeah, all of that.
[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I think that was great.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's almost like he let his guard down for a split second.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he let us see that, which was, [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, even more masterful coming from Mr.
Shimmerman, if you think about that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and we saw so much, what was the episode?
[SPEAKER_00]: Was it with Pell?
[SPEAKER_00]: The, uh, Frankie woman that, or female that disguised herself as a male.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: That was the other vulnerable time we saw him.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_00]: Masterful.
[SPEAKER_02]: It is.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And we didn't get that many of those moments.
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's nice.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, he doesn't.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Nice to see.
[SPEAKER_01]: This was also, I think, quarks residual scene.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it was.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a definite.
[SPEAKER_00]: Give me no details.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we don't see Kira again either.
[SPEAKER_01]: But Bashir Dax and Cisco arrive on the scene.
[SPEAKER_01]: We learned it was a gem.
[SPEAKER_01]: At our strike, they boarded, disguised on a civilian freighter and Kira says they were in and out before anybody could respond.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's tons of casualties.
[SPEAKER_01]: And she does mention they left five minutes ago, so DAX very smartly, because she's the smarty pants.
[SPEAKER_01]: She says the ion trail is still there.
[SPEAKER_01]: We can probably track them.
[SPEAKER_01]: So Cisco leaves cure in charge.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Cisco does say have Starfleet sends them back up for us, because this could be bad.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's Gary.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he wants back up to to come to the station.
[SPEAKER_02]: Just in case [SPEAKER_01]: And he takes Odo and Dax and they're going to go chase the gem at our.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're off in an adventure.
[SPEAKER_01]: They just got back from the brain fight and now they're turning around.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's our job, man.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm still laughing at Bashir.
[SPEAKER_02]: If he held his ground for another three seconds, that alarm would have went off saying, everyone report to the, you know, to, to ops, so he would never have had to get up at all.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, we don't see him again, either.
[SPEAKER_02]: Do we not, he's he done?
[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody has to take care of all that.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's based on his well.
[SPEAKER_02]: And we don't see Jake's fiscal at all in this episode.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we're back on the defiant.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're back on the bridge.
[SPEAKER_01]: It is cloaked.
[SPEAKER_01]: The trail, the Zion trail, the DAX suggested is getting fainter, but they're following it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Cisco wishes, he mentions he wishes the defiant was always guarding the S9.
[SPEAKER_01]: Just that it didn't have to go out and take care of the brain or any of that stuff.
[SPEAKER_01]: And off to the side of work, things that's a very bad idea.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Miles says, well, you would think it's a great idea if you had family on board on board.
[SPEAKER_01]: So.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because I thought he thought that was a bad idea because he lives on the defiant.
[SPEAKER_00]: But he also has to be at the ready.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he has to be ready to go, go, go.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they need they need to defiance.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, they do.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, wasn't it cool when we went to when we declared or cloaked that shimmer when we closed yes there's a lot of little special effects like that in this episode a lot of good visual effects so DAX picks up something it is the gem had it's a gem had our worship that when we arrived.
[SPEAKER_01]: very badly damaged.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's emitting a distress signal.
[SPEAKER_01]: Scan for lifelines or seven lifelines on boards.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to take the team to the transporter room.
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought they were going to go beam over there.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, yeah, I did too.
[SPEAKER_01]: Come with me, we're going to, you know, transporter bay.
[SPEAKER_02]: I never thought that at all because they already said that this, this ship is about to lose containment.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's about to blow up.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I need that they were going to go straight to the transporter room with with their phasers and beam them aboard and just keep talking about it.
[SPEAKER_01]: But I love that idea because we go inside all the security teams surrounds the transporter pad with their rifles pointed at it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and the gem had our beam over, and I remember they said there were seven life signs and I said kept counting There's only six where's the seventh life sign right there little short way and steps through these very tall gem had are so they cast all tall background guys then [SPEAKER_02]: They must have been.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because they're big guys.
[SPEAKER_02]: Jeff Jeffrey comes is not us.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's not a sherry's average.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's average.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I would say five but he looks tiny compared to my guy.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, these are these are basketball dudes in the background.
[SPEAKER_01]: He is grateful to Cisco for saving their lives.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Cisco accuses the German architect in their station and Wayne admits that they attack them too.
[SPEAKER_01]: So yes, they did attack them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then suddenly a mech to lawn is like, don't tell them anything.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you see the German art sort of telling Jeffrey or Wayne.
[SPEAKER_01]: don't talk, don't give them any information.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was wasn't it Clarence Williams character?
[SPEAKER_02]: That's yummy.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I have a question because they beam in, and you see all the gemidar mid-holding their weapons, but then we find out that their weapons have been separated from the beam in.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't keep thinking, how do you even do that?
[SPEAKER_02]: I thought when you beam somebody at their touching something, that comes with you, obviously, but there's technology to separate their weapons away.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it would be mechanical or metal, or there must be a way just to bring organic.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's possible.
[SPEAKER_00]: Matter through and not.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, all right, I'll buy that.
[SPEAKER_00]: I would think that's a defense mechanism.
[SPEAKER_00]: Of course you have to have that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Otherwise you have beam something or they could beam on and blow us up, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: So maybe that's already built.
[SPEAKER_01]: Feels like that should be a default.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like if we're going to be sitting, yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to be more of our strangers.
[SPEAKER_01]: They can't bring any weapons.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, sorry.
[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
[SPEAKER_00]: If we trust you, we'll give you one.
[SPEAKER_00]: But until then, [SPEAKER_01]: way in mentions that do as you're told or you won't get your white so we definitely establish that he's got access to the the drugs they need to stay alive.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's also mean he's a little mean to them.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's bossy.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's very much for being the short from the jungle book.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and I looked up the name to make sure it's that it's an Indian python in the jungle book and he's a one who mogly trusts right, but he's not a good guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's right in weighons like that.
[SPEAKER_00]: He could.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he thinks he's such a smarty pants and that nobody can read how disingenuous he is.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but Cisco has his number right from the get go.
[SPEAKER_01]: He does ask to speak to Cisco privately, and we cut into the mess hall next way, Owen is filling Cisco in on the predicament.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this is the scene where we lay out basically the circumstances of the episode.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is a long scene.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a very long scene.
[SPEAKER_00]: I had to restarted a couple of times because I started to space out and I was like, oh, there's a lot of information.
[SPEAKER_01]: It really is.
[SPEAKER_01]: Wayun offers to make him the ruler of the Federation, not just President, not Chief of Staff, but you'll rule it all.
[SPEAKER_01]: So he obviously something big as it's daycare, if wayun's offering to make Cisco the ruler of the Federation, and he says, you know, we should try to read some kind of understanding.
[SPEAKER_01]: So Wayun does talk about some Gemhadar attack.
[SPEAKER_01]: uh...
the station and way and says i can help you find them but i need i need you to do something for me and uh...
way and says i want you to help me eliminate the gem hadar the bad once the renegade once really yeah he says they're what renegade gem hadar and uh...
he mentions the iconians [SPEAKER_01]: and that they controlled a vast empire about 200,000 years ago, and they created these things called gateways that are like portals.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can jump anywhere.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can move instantaneously from one planet to another, from one solar system to another.
[SPEAKER_01]: Don't even need ships.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, quick trivia.
[SPEAKER_02]: Iconians were mentioned one time before in next generation, and it was Picard who destroyed another portal.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, interesting.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love that about your show.
[SPEAKER_02]: mythology of all the different shows how it comes up and don't they do that with all the shows there's a thread you know but it seems like yours is more so than we did more yeah yeah I think we're living Bible we're living Bible we're living Bible we need to make a t-shirt ds9 we're living Bible I love it [SPEAKER_00]: You might want to say Star Trek Bible, though.
[SPEAKER_00]: So nobody gets confused.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're the Star Trek Bible.
[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, what we end tell us is go that they recently some Dominion scientists recently discovered one of these gateways and took a team of scientists there to try to restore it, investigate it, but the Gemma Dark guards rebelled.
[SPEAKER_01]: and now they're trying to take over the gateway.
[SPEAKER_01]: So the gem had to are rebels are in charge of a very important gateway.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they're working with the Iconians.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, I couldn't answer a long dead.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is a long dead.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, okay.
[SPEAKER_02]: But the fear here is that, even though this is a small splinter group of 150 gemhadar, they being in control of these portals could probably convince other gemhadar units, regiments, destroy them.
[SPEAKER_02]: So then now they could be this unstoppable force that Joe's goes anywhere to destroy any planet or any group of people or species.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't highlight everyone except for.
[SPEAKER_00]: the dominion and other gym at all.
[SPEAKER_00]: Probably.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, way in says at the end of the scene, the gateway has to be destroyed and do a degree and Cisco agrees.
[SPEAKER_00]: But that pause was great, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Every pause, didn't it?
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like it felt like I could, in that moment, the kind of standoff of the two of them, I could really feel the var in the room.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, yeah, because this case and the manipulation.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: We cut to the bridge, Nax.
[SPEAKER_01]: This goes fills the whole team.
[SPEAKER_01]: Our Starfleet team in on what's going on that they're going to work with the gem hadar, which everyone's kind of shocked and uncomfortable with.
[SPEAKER_02]: That starts it off.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let me get the straight.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to work with the gem hadar to fight the gem hadar, [SPEAKER_01]: I love the end of the scene when Cisco says, they'll be a joint brief briefing session at $1,900, a brand says, followed by get to know you buffet at 9.30.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then, did you say that?
[SPEAKER_01]: Is that yes?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_02]: I missed that moment.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then, DAX at the end, she goes, and I forgot my dress uniform.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's good comedy here.
[SPEAKER_02]: I know.
[SPEAKER_02]: I told Terry, I said, you have some great comedic moments in this episode.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I wanted to tell you.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: I wonder who wrote them.
[SPEAKER_00]: I wonder if it was Robert or if it was I read.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because it had the flavor that my character was written by someone.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because there was a good through line.
[SPEAKER_00]: It felt that way, anyway.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: We should message Robert about this.
[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're very handsome, Robert.
[SPEAKER_02]: He can be on our list too, Robbie, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, he can go on the hands of the other.
[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely on our list.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, because, yeah, because he's the nerdy quirky, but super handsome guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love that combination.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we've got us this goes cabin next.
[SPEAKER_01]: And basically a short scene with Cisco and a Mac to Long.
[SPEAKER_01]: But this is about who's in charge.
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's a power standoff.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're both shot very well.
[SPEAKER_01]: Lots of subtexts going on here, power vibes.
[SPEAKER_01]: But Cisco says, I'm the boss on this.
[SPEAKER_01]: On this mission, I'm the first.
[SPEAKER_01]: Amectalon agrees, ultimately.
[SPEAKER_01]: Until this mission is over, and the traders are found and terminated, [SPEAKER_01]: fine, but after that we'll see and Cisco dismisses them.
[SPEAKER_01]: So now we know Cisco's in charge, the teams are working together and this is going to be interesting.
[SPEAKER_01]: In the mess hall, joint meeting, battle plans are happening.
[SPEAKER_01]: We learned about the base camp.
[SPEAKER_01]: Cisco shows them diagram or the plans of the base camp.
[SPEAKER_01]: We realize that there's about 150 of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's some special thing about the material that their camp is made out of new troniums.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're an exalt of new tronium, even a direct direct direct with the quantum torpedo wouldn't necessarily destroy our objectives, so it wouldn't get the gateway.
[SPEAKER_01]: So they have to go in basically hand-to-hand and fight these rebels.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we don't know hand-to-hand yet, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: So they all assume they have their weapons or weapons.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, man to man, I guess, you know.
[SPEAKER_01]: But you can't just shoot bombs down their boots on the ground.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: And thank goodness for our Star Trek nerd to understand all of these things.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_01]: I did like we're one of the Jim Hedar, I forget who takes a shot at Odo and says, you know, well, the gods will decide justice for a trader god and looks over to Odo.
[SPEAKER_01]: I notice like, you think it my god for shame.
[SPEAKER_02]: He says, I'm no god, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're taking shots at Odo, then they insult war if I think he gets into it with in shots, meaning verbal shots.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, verbal shots, yeah, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're critters.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're pot shots, yeah, they're just being, you know, mean, mean, yeah, bickering, I guess.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're mean girls, those gemhadar, they are.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're mean girls.
[SPEAKER_02]: It is, this is a very high school episode.
[SPEAKER_02]: The whole thing, this is Warf Seat and no one can sit there.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's like a high school thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then, yeah, mean girls, it really is.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, and it's weird because the Gemini are these great big guys that pop in what, and then three days, they're full grown and what?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so, yeah, maturity is not their strong point.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, he's being more than mean.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Tomon, Tomon Trock says one day the clean on empire will fall before the Gemma D'Ar and when that day comes and piles of clean ons like dead at my feet, I will think of you standing here impotent and weak it and I will laugh that's being more than mean that's like that's like almost saying something about someone's mother.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they're provoking, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: They're very bad fighters and they're provoking.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's when Warf grabs Tamanterox and Tamanterox grabs Warf and Cisco has to break it up and he tells everybody the end of the scene and Cisco says, I promise you'll both have more fight than you can handle before this is over.
[SPEAKER_01]: So foreshadowing all this action that got cut from the episode.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they're really setting up this, this is going to be an ugly fight, a vicious fight.
[SPEAKER_01]: We cut into a corridor.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're not sure what we're seeing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Is this the battle, or are they down there?
[SPEAKER_01]: Worf's walking down a corridor.
[SPEAKER_01]: He knocks out a Gemma Dar, Dax, and models are following.
[SPEAKER_01]: They head into an engine room and warf.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a soldier who's guarding the warp core and they take out two of the soldiers in there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Miles is getting this bomb ready.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Dax has waited a minute.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a third one here and they look all around.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then the lights change suddenly.
[SPEAKER_01]: We realize it's a simulation.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was pretty cool actually.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: I like that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And a Brian says, we're dead.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, McDonald's is above with Cisco way you know, McDonald's they're all watching.
[SPEAKER_01]: They say, and McDonald's like, that's correct to your death.
[SPEAKER_01]: So this is practice for the battle.
[SPEAKER_01]: We learn they've got a defense grid.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, wait a second.
[SPEAKER_00]: Also, a McDonald's shames all of us for, because we're we're looking for the third soldier.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he goes there.
[SPEAKER_00]: And you've got to work with that.
[SPEAKER_00]: You just got to do it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there was no third guard.
[SPEAKER_01]: We are in the corridor where Cisco is very frustrated and says these drills are supposed to help you guys, you know, help our guys work as a team.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's telling a meta-clone.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is also supposed to bring us together.
[SPEAKER_01]: Make us work as a team.
[SPEAKER_01]: But you've got to stop putting our people down like you can't talk to you know, that's not team building He says I just want you to maintain the pretence that we're on the same side.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's pretend like we're friends [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then we hop into the turbo lift.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Omediclon says that they must have mixed teams to fight this fight.
[SPEAKER_01]: They can't just have Gemhead R teams and Starfleet teams, they can mix their people together.
[SPEAKER_00]: To build trust for his team because they don't trust the federation as we don't trust them, but that's his solution.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: He does mention in here how the, uh, the gem had our no all about the gateway and Cisco stops the lift and he says the gem had our or more more loyal to the founders than the Vorta and Cisco agrees to mixed teams in the turbo lift with him.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, I think you're right.
[SPEAKER_01]: We need some of your.
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, uh, specialty and your knowledge, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, [SPEAKER_01]: We'll see.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're expendable.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: They see it as being expendable.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: We just have to achieve our objective.
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the most important thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you know, is in this scene as well.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's in the trouble left as well.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he was shocked to find out that the these Gemma Darwin know what's going on.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they don't care.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're still out to do the right thing in the to-jar world.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Cisco's like, your secrets out.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: We go back to the bridge.
[SPEAKER_01]: For Akura Stairs of Dax, which is very funny.
[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, my really that interesting.
[SPEAKER_01]: Steering.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like the silence of it all.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is maybe my favorite scene in the entire.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's really good.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, thank you.
[SPEAKER_00]: I like the scene too.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was fun.
[SPEAKER_01]: trying to learn about her behavior and dissipator actions.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's how he's going to be a team player and just ducks ask about him, you know, how they do they sleep or eat.
[SPEAKER_01]: Nope, he says they don't sleep, they don't eat.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just the white gives them everything they need.
[SPEAKER_01]: She brings up women.
[SPEAKER_01]: Nope.
[SPEAKER_01]: No women.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're birthed in chambers.
[SPEAKER_01]: They fight it's three days.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're ready to fight.
[SPEAKER_01]: She asks how old he is.
[SPEAKER_01]: He says he's eight.
[SPEAKER_01]: Dax says she stopped counting it 300 when he asks, how old are you?
[SPEAKER_01]: I stopped counting it after 300.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, his reaction was very funny.
[SPEAKER_01]: Price was.
[SPEAKER_00]: You don't look it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I said, thank you.
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love that moment too.
[SPEAKER_00]: I love that whole scene.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was very sweet.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm wondering if Ira or Robert is a big fan of Adam Ant, [SPEAKER_00]: Why?
[SPEAKER_02]: Because Dax, your line is pretty much very reminiscent of the song Goodie Two Shoes.
[SPEAKER_02]: When it says, don't drink, don't smoke, what do you do?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so you go to sleep, don't eat, what do you do for relaxation?
[SPEAKER_02]: But still, it's the same.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's the same.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I love that song.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we're in the mess hall.
[SPEAKER_01]: Miles Oda, Wurf and Dax are there.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're discussing the gem.
[SPEAKER_01]: Adar.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then a Brian says, no women.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not surprised.
[SPEAKER_00]: And, and Worf goes on to be no, I mean, spending a long night singing songs of your deeds, good food, good drink, and I say good women.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they're just living in this nice little banter.
[SPEAKER_01]: Comparing the, I guess the gem had art to, to their lives and things like that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Wayuns it there, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: No, he's not there.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's at another table staring over at there.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but he's there.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's in the house.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_02]: They clock it and Odo's like, why is he keep staring at us?
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what O'Brien says, I don't think he's staring at us.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's you.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's when Dax says, Oh, it's probably because, you know, the board, uh, consider the founders like God's.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then you're kind of, and then it was like, I'm not a founder, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: So he's like, well, you're changing that's close enough to them.
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's just just a kind of a informational scene.
[SPEAKER_02]: But that's when the Geminar come into the, into the mess hall.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, Metaclon is, uh, is he's basically trying to come and get the white.
[SPEAKER_02]: The catcher's so white.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's time.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're, they're on a schedule.
[SPEAKER_02]: They need to be, uh, they need to replace the white.
[SPEAKER_02]: And when you're sitting there eating and he's so cocky.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's just so funny.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god.
[SPEAKER_02]: He grows, isn't he?
[SPEAKER_02]: He's time when I say it's time.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's so deliciously awful in this season.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, isn't he?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then he's like, okay, very well.
[SPEAKER_01]: Prepare six vials.
[SPEAKER_01]: He puts his hand on top.
[SPEAKER_01]: for the secret code or something, prepare some ex vials, unlock, he opens it up and he says, a medical one, can you vouch for the loyalty of your men?
[SPEAKER_01]: And a medical one says his heart, we pledge like a loyalty to the sound, like they're going through this eyebrows.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's all ritual here, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: But what you and it's so bored with this, he's just like, oh God, will you vouch for them?
[SPEAKER_02]: It's very funny how he's playing this whole scene.
[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
[SPEAKER_01]: but they get their, their white.
[SPEAKER_01]: Then, to Montarox and Warf kind of get into it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Again.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, again, is there?
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, leaving.
[SPEAKER_02]: To Montarox is actually sort of picking on O'Brien.
[SPEAKER_02]: So he walks over to O'Brien, who's on his combat team.
[SPEAKER_02]: It says, we've got to go resume our battle drills.
[SPEAKER_02]: Cause, you know, the Jebotar about, [SPEAKER_02]: training and for training and for training as begins that way.
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's innocent enough to Montarok is not trying to start any type of, you know, he's not trying to be aggressive.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's just saying, let's prepare.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go and train and I'm not ready.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not ready.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm eating.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's like in a minute.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that's when Tremontarok starts saying stuff, well, look at them.
[SPEAKER_02]: They stuffed themselves with food, but they have no appetite for battle.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then Warf is like, okay, well, I'm going to stick up for O'Brien a little bit, which he does, then Tremontarok says something else.
[SPEAKER_02]: Then lays hands on O'Brien shoulder, which is when Warf says, [SPEAKER_02]: And not enough, he back hands to Monterach and the fight ensues, they roll over, they're broken apart.
[SPEAKER_02]: Everyone comes in and you see Cisco there, you see a metaclonne.
[SPEAKER_00]: This guy, big daddy comes in.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, break it up, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_02]: The question is says who started this?
[SPEAKER_02]: Cisco, I'm sorry, Cisco said that.
[SPEAKER_02]: One of the two says that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Who ever says who started it or says, I'm one.
[SPEAKER_02]: And Tom Antarox says I'm the other one who started this whole thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: And at that moment, that's when a Metaclon goes ahead and and issues his own version of justice.
[SPEAKER_00]: Breaks his neck.
[SPEAKER_00]: What the heck?
[SPEAKER_01]: That's his buddy too, buddy.
[SPEAKER_01]: He takes him out.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's his second.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's his second.
[SPEAKER_01]: He kills him and then he tells Cisco to kill war for it.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Cisco just sends war for you.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, you're going back to this court.
[SPEAKER_02]: He time you're not on duty.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're confined to your quarters.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he's like, yes, sir, and walks away.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's grounded.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's on a timeout.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but the look on a metaclons face afterwards is he has no respect for Cisco whatsoever.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, are you kidding me?
[SPEAKER_02]: He even says you should die in his place for not killing him.
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's it's some major tension going on here because there's a complete different value system between the German daughter.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for he even says he even says you should die in his place.
[SPEAKER_01]: And when this mention is over, I'll see that you see that you do.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's just going to come.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's very intense.
[SPEAKER_01]: Really very intense.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god.
[SPEAKER_01]: We walk into a quarter next and Odo's walking around a corner and behind him out pops way in from his cabin and he basically tells Odo I'm here to serve.
[SPEAKER_01]: Great.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he's so gross, he's so scary, and ugh.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he says he'll help Odo get back to his people.
[SPEAKER_01]: He knows that Odo wants to reconnect with his people.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Odo says, no, what I want is to end this conversation way into like, okay, I love that.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm here to serve, I comply, but this is super close-ups.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is the closest close-up, the tighter shots I think I've ever seen on Star Trek, [SPEAKER_00]: Well, we've had ACUs in four wagons make-up.
[SPEAKER_00]: It looked really great, but there was a spot in Odo's make-up in the corner of his eye.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just killed me.
[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, I'm not the entire time I'm watching it.
[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like I had a little brush of glue in my hand, and I just wanted to stick it right in there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if I was in the scene with him, I would have been like make-up.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, of course.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it just attracted you from the actual scene.
[SPEAKER_00]: It did, it really did.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, of course.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's just remarkable, but I've looked through a lens of a camera.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's amazing, I film camera.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's amazing how it isn't as clear as you would expect.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, expect it.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a kind of a great film.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it looks like like a filter or something.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it does.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you can't see those kind of details.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why you need the makeup people to be really coming in and paying attention.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, now at days, we've got big monitors and high-deft.
[SPEAKER_01]: You feel like digital cameras.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's much easier to see.
[SPEAKER_01]: But you're right back then, it was film.
[SPEAKER_00]: Mm.
[SPEAKER_01]: You had to look through the eyepiece.
[SPEAKER_00]: And my point being, sometimes during the IP, looking in the IPs, you can't see those details.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: It just, yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Speaking of eyes, Jeff has contacts on, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's the only way he's like a violet.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god, they're crazy.
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't see it.
[SPEAKER_01]: It just looks great.
[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
[SPEAKER_01]: Good choice.
[SPEAKER_01]: We go to the bridge next.
[SPEAKER_01]: Miles walks in and gives Dax a, isolate in your chip with the message for Kiko and Molly.
[SPEAKER_01]: In case he doesn't come home.
[SPEAKER_01]: And these are moments to me that are, you know, that's reality, you know, we found the human.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this is very much any, any, anyone we know that's in a military service.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is what they have to do if they go into combat, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: You have to leave a message for you loved ones.
[SPEAKER_02]: So, but Dax is trying to, not console him, but sort of, [SPEAKER_02]: Sure, mypper be the pep squad and saying like, no, it's not gonna happen.
[SPEAKER_02]: You'll be fine.
[SPEAKER_02]: I know already know this.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're gonna be 104 years old or whatever.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're gonna be lived a little bright old age.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, let's visualize it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Make that happen.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, she also says I've been around a long time and I can tell when people are survivors and when they're not.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And you've got it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like you've got whatever that thing is.
[SPEAKER_00]: Besides, I have to send a message to my mother.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Otherwise, well, you record these two, it's like, yep, doesn't everyone, so it's kind of a funny button to it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, funny button.
[SPEAKER_01]: We go to the engine room next, Worf comes in.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's heard about the threat from a metaclon and says Cisco should stay on the ship.
[SPEAKER_01]: during the battle, let's just go to Klein.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to go fight this fight.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Wurf just warns him, you know, watch your back.
[SPEAKER_01]: He does say if you die, I will avenge your death.
[SPEAKER_01]: Very cling on of him.
[SPEAKER_02]: The way they wrote that was hilarious.
[SPEAKER_02]: If somehow he does carry out his threat, he would not live to boast about it.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's what he said.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's which is very bad.
[SPEAKER_02]: He didn't say I'm going to kill him.
[SPEAKER_02]: He just he would not know.
[SPEAKER_02]: No.
[SPEAKER_02]: Most of it, you know, that's all.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's so very funny.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Cisco turned to him, gives him a look.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, well, that's very reassuring.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like maybe you have my back during the battle at their first.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'd like to not plan on dying.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Or my revenge that, yes, revenge in my death.
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Dax calls says that we're approaching Vandro's four.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they head off.
[SPEAKER_02]: Terry, when you watched yourself say we're approaching Vandro's four captain, did you think of Luther Vandro's?
[SPEAKER_02]: The singer?
[SPEAKER_02]: Did that come across your head?
[SPEAKER_02]: You're right.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that, not today, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's my non-secretary.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go up, let's continue.
[SPEAKER_02]: Arms locker.
[SPEAKER_01]: Arms locker was very cool though, because it's like this montage of weapons being handed out.
[SPEAKER_02]: Was it a real arms locker?
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't remember.
[SPEAKER_02]: Or was it that little half suitcase thingy that we know?
[SPEAKER_01]: It was an arms locker.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was a real, like, a room.
[SPEAKER_02]: Magn goodness.
[SPEAKER_01]: And the shots were cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was, it was, it was, it was a armory.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like an armory.
[SPEAKER_01]: Great.
[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
[SPEAKER_01]: Very dramatic.
[SPEAKER_01]: The gym had to take the weapons off of stun.
[SPEAKER_01]: They talk about setting them to max power, fuel setting.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then there's a gym had our speech basically.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, where he says, we're dead.
[SPEAKER_01]: We have to go to battle to reclaim our life.
[SPEAKER_02]: I just love how that's written though if you think about it's very well Because you're saying you're we're already all dead if you want to reclaim your life You find it in the battle.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like what that is so intense and so well written.
[SPEAKER_02]: I love that right?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it is [SPEAKER_02]: So after a metaclon goes through this speech that he gives before battle, I thought it was so effective because he's so calm.
[SPEAKER_02]: Clarence Williams a third when he's delivering that.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's not yelling or screaming this out.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's just so deadly calm that it's just very, very, it's very moving for me.
[SPEAKER_02]: And of course, as they head off after saying victory is life, O'Brien comes up with his speech.
[SPEAKER_02]: He says, hi, I am chief miles, Edward O'Brien.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm very much alive and I intend to stay [SPEAKER_02]: Let's go response.
[SPEAKER_02]: Amen.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's get it done.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's get it done.
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's get it done.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I just didn't aim it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: So even though there's a lot of battle and a lot of stress, and a lot of tension in this episode, there's some amazing comedic moments in here that I go, yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And dear me, to this episode, Robbie, that make me love this episode.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're out and we go to the planet surface next.
[SPEAKER_01]: The landing party gets down there that are taking cover behind some trees.
[SPEAKER_01]: You said this was Griffith Park?
[SPEAKER_01]: Is that where they filmed next place?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's where we were.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was gorgeous.
[SPEAKER_01]: The trees, to me, looked like Pacific Northwest.
[SPEAKER_01]: They look like, oh, I don't know, [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I can't believe those trees are in Griffith Park.
[SPEAKER_00]: You haven't been for a while.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, I haven't.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's bigger than people think.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a big part.
[SPEAKER_02]: Where they were at really is.
[SPEAKER_02]: So high up as well.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, oh, interesting.
[SPEAKER_01]: Beautiful trees.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, they take cover.
[SPEAKER_01]: Cisco waves everybody out.
[SPEAKER_01]: They gather by the base.
[SPEAKER_01]: A meta-clon says the rifles don't work.
[SPEAKER_01]: None of their weapons are going to be helpful.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they thought that we were sabotaging them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then to access, no, it's the gateway is giving off some kind of energy.
[SPEAKER_01]: And how many fields?
[SPEAKER_01]: So the dam.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then suddenly these gemhadar shimmer in from invisible world.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're right there next to them.
[SPEAKER_01]: And they have to fight hand-to-hand with bladed weapons.
[SPEAKER_01]: Did they have all of these?
[SPEAKER_01]: Did they have like, [SPEAKER_01]: Weapons on them when they did it.
[SPEAKER_00]: They had knives, it's crazy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: They did.
[SPEAKER_02]: But did we have a story?
[SPEAKER_00]: Guys think about that?
[SPEAKER_00]: No.
[SPEAKER_00]: No.
[SPEAKER_02]: No.
[SPEAKER_02]: You guys had to disarm them.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's how we lost a lot of people.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, right at the get got very very nice.
[SPEAKER_02]: They had no weapons to fight these guys.
[SPEAKER_02]: These guys were ready to go But it's funny that oh very conveniently every one of those jimmers are have a black vest on over there Clothing so you knew who is the bad guy.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I didn't notice Oh, I can't either both of you.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was a black literally like a black vest like a sweater vest that every single Jemmedar that shimmered in had on and I was like That's very convenient to make it look like a professor [SPEAKER_02]: Kind of, but it just it was a way for them to to differentiate between the good jemodar and the bad jemodar because that was a big bump for me for you.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, how do they know I didn't catch it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how if you're in the middle of a battle that you'd have the clarity of mind to go.
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh wait a minute, they've got a little black.
[SPEAKER_01]: There they're stitching is different.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's how we'll know who the bad guys are.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's gonna be more obvious.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, all right, I agree.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I saw that, but it's interesting that neither of you saw that though, but it was not.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: I was just paying attention to the fighting in the scene.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a brief fight and not my favorite fight.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen I've seen more dynamic kind of hand to hand this one was a little off combination right of the fight and the editing.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, yes, and the editing was a little bumpy for me.
[SPEAKER_01]: But a medical on says to Cisco, you're probably going to quit, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: And Cisco says, nope, guess again.
[SPEAKER_00]: He grabs the blade.
[SPEAKER_01]: They had down by the the entrance to [SPEAKER_01]: this place structure, structure of the gateway, they head down there.
[SPEAKER_01]: This time, our Gemma Dart shimmer in and start to fight the rebels and then Starfleet joins in.
[SPEAKER_01]: Lots of hand-to-hand fighting there, Warf and Dax leading the charge with [SPEAKER_01]: some pretty cool cling-on moves, I thought.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we're worth index.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but then again, remember, 32 seconds of flight scene are gone because it wasn't allowed.
[SPEAKER_02]: So it is very choppy and not as flowing as it could be.
[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder why it seems surprising to me that sensors wouldn't let it in.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, if you think time, okay, we talked about how many deaths originally, that won the first cut.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was 52 deaths, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: So back then, the 52 deaths was like John Wick on steroids in the 90s.
[SPEAKER_02]: This was before John Wick, no one ever seen that high body count.
[SPEAKER_01]: not on Star Trek.
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Kling on moves get him inside.
[SPEAKER_01]: We're inside the vestibule, worse, heading to the gateway.
[SPEAKER_01]: Dex says she'll cover him from behind.
[SPEAKER_01]: So she's she and her gang are fighting guards that are pouring in.
[SPEAKER_01]: Worf.
[SPEAKER_01]: takes out another guard and says keep moving.
[SPEAKER_01]: They had through a quarter into a vestibule.
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is where Dax is fighting and Vera Kara, how do you say his name?
[SPEAKER_01]: Vera Kara, Vera Kara, that guy, her buddy, Jack Dax is eight-year-old buddy.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're both fighting and having this conversation.
[SPEAKER_01]: You still there?
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Me, they are used to alive.
[SPEAKER_02]: Don't you say something like you're definitely going to make One of the holes you'll make an honored elder yet.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's a year old 20-year-old Gemma-dar.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I love this.
[SPEAKER_02]: It becomes this sort of like camaraderie thing that we we never would have expected Because remember the principal way idea that they wanted to convey was the more you get to know the Gemma-dar The less you want to know them, but it's different with Dax and Rockera.
[SPEAKER_02]: They almost become this cool [SPEAKER_02]: We're buddies, they're buddies, they're like, yeah, it's right and they're making kind of jokes while they're fighting, which is awesome.
[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
[SPEAKER_02]: This could be the spin-off show.
[SPEAKER_02]: The spin-off show could be Dax and Varacara.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yes.
[SPEAKER_02]: The adventures of the two of you.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my God.
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's really fun to watch and you, Terry, you were great, but it's exactly my point of like, I'm not sure they know what story they're telling because they're really telling the story, the more you get to know them, the less you want to know them, this story shouldn't be there.
[SPEAKER_01]: It weakens their thesis, like it weakens, right.
[SPEAKER_01]: that's why I'm not sure.
[SPEAKER_00]: It also supports that they that they are those renegade Jim Hadar and then there's our Jim Hadar and maybe it's better to have that question of oh like how human are they and for some reason I break into some it's okay to have the comic relief with one I think.
[SPEAKER_02]: I agree.
[SPEAKER_02]: I agree with you.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's always going to be an anomaly, Jim Hadar, who doesn't fit into the, that sort of mold where you don't want to get to know them at all.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's going to be one where I kind of do want to get to know that guy, though, Veracca as the cool one.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they're all going to be one cool one of the people you don't want to know.
[SPEAKER_00]: And not dissimilar from having the simulation we were doing and we were waiting for the third we were looking for the third guard Unexpected and this is unexpected and I think it's good because being part of Starfleet.
[SPEAKER_00]: We have to give room give space for [SPEAKER_00]: aliens and their descriptions to maybe not match up every time.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: People surprise you kind of thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: Terry, this Veracarad Dax relationship while fighting reminded me so much from Lord of the Rings the trilogy when you see Gimli, The Dwarf, and Legolas, The Elf, with their fighting.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm on number 32.
[SPEAKER_02]: What about you?
[SPEAKER_02]: And I've got, you know, there's this whole dialogue going on between two of them while they're in death.
[SPEAKER_02]: fight to the death, you know, see.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I thought it was great.
[SPEAKER_01]: I loved it.
[SPEAKER_01]: Dax and Varacara have their funny little conversation while they're in the midst of battle.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then we go back to worth, uh, worth inside a corridor more fighting.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's on his own now.
[SPEAKER_01]: and we learned that he's been hiding Odo in a sack.
[SPEAKER_01]: He said that's so cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: We've waited long enough.
[SPEAKER_01]: He puts the satchel down and Odo morphs into himself and knocks down the guards.
[SPEAKER_00]: What's like he was like an octopus first?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Bam, bam, bam, bam.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, it's cool, but at the same moment when that happened, I thought really you didn't bring about in the beginning he could have saved a bunch of lives from getting, you know, we lost some good guys right in the beginning.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you had Odo, Mr.
do anything in the beginning.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, or octopus.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's why he couldn't be there then.
[SPEAKER_01]: I guess.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: We cut into a passageway.
[SPEAKER_01]: They're getting much closer to the gateway.
[SPEAKER_01]: Cisco checks with miles that the explosives are ready to go.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Miles says, we have a backup detonator in case we need it.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we're getting close to taking out this gateway.
[SPEAKER_01]: Finally, we get in the gateway chamber.
[SPEAKER_01]: and we see the gateway, there's all these images, different destinations just flying by.
[SPEAKER_01]: They take out the guards, a blind search to set up the explosives.
[SPEAKER_01]: And in those images, we see like Bayjor, we see Kronos, we see the Eiffel Tower.
[SPEAKER_01]: I even noted that you see the Blackpool Tower, which is Blackpool England.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, where you do the convention.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's so cool.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're like, I was just there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Last year, but I also made a note.
[SPEAKER_02]: I said, those images as cool as they were, that whole scene to me looked very original series.
[SPEAKER_02]: Ask, just sort of kind of a mode technique easy.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's very much so.
[SPEAKER_02]: But there was a surprise attack at this point, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: With the minute they come in here, and this is when Cisco saves a medical on from being, you know, basically killed.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was, yeah, save the life.
[SPEAKER_01]: And for a medical on's confused.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, they're so confused.
[SPEAKER_02]: What are you doing?
[SPEAKER_00]: I threatened your life.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And you're willing to sacrifice your to save my life after I threatened to kill you.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like Cisco's answer where he says, if you have to ask why, then you'll never understand.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: Very wise.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's that perfect thing that people can only meet you where they've met themselves.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: It is.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I still like this scene because a medical out now has something to think about.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, that he never never would have even thought could be possible.
[SPEAKER_02]: That would be right.
[SPEAKER_00]: The blind spots for you.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's put our minds up.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like when they're all running out, Odo runs by and says, let's go DAX.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then DAX says to, do you say to your buddy, if I were you, I'd run like hell?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, that's what I thought this next.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, to pound Renegade.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, no, no, no, no, that's what it was.
[SPEAKER_02]: So she had overpowered a bad guy and just basically said, look, if I were you, I'd run like hell.
[SPEAKER_02]: So she's saving his life and giving him a piece of advice as well.
[SPEAKER_02]: So she let him go.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but off they go, we go out to the planet surface.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a very original series moment as well because the whole explosion happens off camera.
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[SPEAKER_01]: We hear it.
[SPEAKER_01]: It was like really can't you come to a wide shot and see this.
[SPEAKER_00]: We sent too much money and all those gem header make up.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what it was.
[SPEAKER_01]: But they've destroyed the...
[SPEAKER_01]: the gateway.
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, to me, this is a big cheat.
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, this is where you should not stick money.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, especially because it's such a dynamic.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a whole time, damn thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: The whole show, and to not see the explosion, we never see it.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a little anti-comactic.
[SPEAKER_00]: You want it to be enormous.
[SPEAKER_00]: And not some weird blast.
[SPEAKER_00]: You just see some a big dust ball.
[SPEAKER_00]: But like, [SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
[SPEAKER_00]: Especially if these portals are so expend or gatewaves are so powerful.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but we are definitely not ready for this moment when we're you and says you've all done quite nicely.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now if you don't mind I'd like to inspect the wreckage with at which point a metaclon pulls up his way back on a ship arises him he's [SPEAKER_02]: just like that.
[SPEAKER_01]: I was shocked.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, wait a minute.
[SPEAKER_01]: I know that Jeffrey Holmes comes back as way in.
[SPEAKER_01]: I, I, I, I, I ignored that at all.
[SPEAKER_02]: I had no clue.
[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, maybe he doesn't come back.
[SPEAKER_02]: He only did what.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know what's funny is I was thinking I would before I share watching the episode.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was saying it only time I remember working with him.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just remember being really close to him in a discussion.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought, I wonder if it's in this episode and I didn't see it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I was thought, there's gotta be something else.
[SPEAKER_01]: There's some trick.
[SPEAKER_01]: He comes back.
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know where.
[SPEAKER_01]: But a medical on takes him out and says, that's for questioning their loyalty.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought that was, yeah, obviously, he's not understanding Cisco period.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, no.
[SPEAKER_01]: He's not learning anything from this episode, but he tells Cisco they're going to stay in hunt for the other rebels, take the rest of the rebels out, and he says to Cisco that next time I see you, we will be enemies.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he didn't learn.
[SPEAKER_00]: But you know what, appreciate his honesty.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's screwed up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's screwed up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's screwed up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's screwed up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's screwed up.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's screwed up.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's screwed up.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's screwed up.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's screwed up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's screwed up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's screwed up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's screwed up.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's screwed up.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's screwed up.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's screwed up.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's screwed up.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's screwed up.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk about theme slash lesson slash moral for this episode, Robbie McNeill.
[SPEAKER_01]: My theme or lesson is even enemies can find something in common and something to respect.
[SPEAKER_02]: Do you have a theme slash lesson slash moral, Terry?
[SPEAKER_00]: I would say keep an open mind.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think this is a common Star Trek theme.
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't judge a book by its cover.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: My lesson is it's always better for collaboration as opposed to competition.
[SPEAKER_02]: So mixed teams together, right?
[SPEAKER_00]: Patron Paul Winner, submitted by Martin DePlays in the face of a greater threat, uncomfortable compromises and alliances must be made.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I like that the best.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's good.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's good.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's good one, Martin.
[SPEAKER_01]: Good one.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, thank you, everyone.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's the end of our podcast.
