Let's catch up now with stories from the rest of the continent.

We do this every Wednesday with Crystal Orderson.

Crystal so much for African Solutions to African problems.

The DRC government and the M twenty three rebels have signed a peace deal in Qatar to end fighting in the Eastern Congo, but it's the teas and seas that have left people wondering if it will lead to lasting peace.

Speaker 1

Good morning, Boghani, that's absolutely the correct issue to raise.

You know, what is the fine print?

So we see, for instance that they say that the implementation of the deal is expected in about three days time, that's betweeny or next week twenty ninth of July, and then they will start further direct negotiations for a more comprehensive peace agreement, and that is sometime in August.

Now we know so that a few weeks ago, the US of course played a key role in getting Rwanda and the DC to sign that deal.

There's a minerals deal attached to that.

Again, we don't have any specific details, but ultimately it seems there's an urgency to stop the fighting in the east.

Of course, we know that the M twenty three, who is a non state actor, had insisted on seeking its own seasfire deal with Kinshasa, saying it was left out of that US deal.

So already we see some challenges there.

So what we see from the Congolese side, of course, everyone is welcoming because it is a major milestone, but some Congolese have questioned whether there's enough political will to ensure that the dealer is implemented.

So documents so far say that both sides are committed to some sort of permanent ceasefire, a band on aerial and ground and narrowtime lake activities.

Also, some attacks will stop and the hate propaganda will also cease.

Also, it seems there's a return of key state institutions because we do know that IN twenty three has essentially been running the East and so there seems to be an agreement that the army, police and civil administration will resume.

So of course the TSNCS Wangani will have to wait and see because a fuller comprehensive peace agreement will be signed sometime in August.

Speaker 2

Right, let's go to Zimbabwe.

Now, Nelson Tamesa not giving up on politics.

He has now launched a new party.

He was, of course formerly with the Citizens Coalition for Change and before that, I think the MDC.

What's he going to do differently this time?

Speaker 1

Bob Bulghan, he actually started his political career at the NDC.

The first time I interviewed him, he was still the spokesperson of the late Morgan Junger and so that's how Chamisa has come.

So he's saying, look, this time it's not forming a party, but rather a political movement to challenge ZANUPF.

So the question is world supporters indeed follow Chamisa and can this new movement really be ready to challenge the twenty twenty eight elections.

Now in twenty twenty four, as you're rightfully pointed out, he resigned from that Citizen Coalition for Change.

He accused the ruling ZANUPIEV of entrenched authoritarianism, but also questioned the way the Triple C and he felt they were hijacked by the ZANUPEV.

Of course, we know that the party did not fare very well, and so he's saying, with the launch of the movement, what does it actually mean, WILLI have structures on the ground, Will he be able to get people to basically campaign for him?

And what will he do different to actually dislodge and unseat Zanupev Because we know politically Zanipev is so entrenched in Zimbabwe, it's been very difficult for any party or movement in fact to challenge their dominance in the country.

So yeah, Chamisa entering the fray again.

So it's going to be interesting to see.

He's always been great with sound bites.

Let's see if the sound bites will actually get voters to believe that he is the man to bring change to their country.
