Episode Transcript

Welcome to Remember 64, where this week we hit the slopes with the kids.

Hi everyone, and welcome to the show.

Hello again if you're a returning listener or a viewer, and welcome if this is your first time joining us here in Remember 64.

We play and discuss the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between throughout the Nintendo 64's library.

My name, of course, is David Petrangelo, and I was very excited to play this Atlas RPG for this episode.

It's got me.

It's gotten so many great reviews.

It's touted for story and Oh, sorry, it's not that.

Wait, what is it?

OK, whatever.

I guess I'll just toss this rock over here and just call me in fourth place and wait.

I think I played Jiggy.

I think I played the wrong game.

Where?

Where am I?

Here.

Hello, Jiggy.

Look back.

How are you?

I.

Don't know where you are?

We're just skiing.

We're skiing down a hill with some absurdly big nosed characters.

Yes, that's.

Correct.

Absurdly.

You heard that right.

Absurdly absurd.

That's like, I want you.

You're you're picturing a big nose.

You're picturing Mario.

OK, now take that to the level of absurd.

They're huge.

Like, their nose is almost as big as their body.

It might actually be as big as their body.

Pretty much is yeah, 'cause there's.

Like so tiny.

What are these kids?

They're wild snowboard kids.

That's what they are.

Jiggy.

We are playing snowboard kids.

It is, you know, if you are in a certain part of the hemisphere or the world, it is officially winter pretty much anywhere.

But if you have snow, why not hit the slopes?

So Snowboard Kids is going to is sort of our like official kickoff to the winter season, I guess you could call it.

We got a couple other ideas coming up too that'll sort of loop in the holidays and such, but we'll tell you about that in just a little bit.

But yeah, we're talking Snowboard Kids, a game made by Atlas, which at this point is known for a lot of deep, awesome art styles, really cool RPGs, the Persona series, like just a lot of really cool games.

Not stuff that's typically my cup of tea, but not something I avoid, you know what I mean?

Like they're just not something that's top of the list for me.

But you're, you're a persona persona guy, I'm pretty sure, right?

Yeah, I do like.

Persona, yeah.

It's pretty good.

I mean, realistically I've played five and four I haven't really played, although I'm more.

Common ones more.

Yeah, more common ones.

I'm a casual Persona fan.

I'm not like a super die hard.

Although I do want to pick up Persona 3 Reload for my Switch.

I think that'd be sick.

But yeah, Persona, it's really fun.

I really enjoy it and I like, I like the aspects of it that people are probably like, I don't know, maybe maybe people really love these aspects.

I'm like, I'm less about the like RPG battling thing and more about than just like living life as a high schooler 'cause I think it's hilarious and like.

That's that's the stuff that I don't I haven't played them or I haven't played them enough to be like, Oh, I I like this character.

I've I've dabbled and I don't own any.

It was more like, oh, try this, try this.

Those are the things that like unless, unless I give my chance, I give myself a chance to be deeper into it.

Those are the things that I automatically go, yeah, I don't like that part of it.

But that see is not enough experience.

I, I, it's, it's the thing that that draws me to it because I find it interesting.

It's like interacting with people, making decisions and that affects your relationship.

You can like seduce every woman ever.

You can like go play baseball and then like go to the Hot Springs and just like chill every night.

And depending on like who you see there, like it'll strengthen.

Or you can like, ruin a relationship.

Like I love that aspect of it.

I think it's really unique.

I think more games today are trying to do that.

For sure.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Like it's, it creates, it's, it's a deeper relationship system that affects a lot of other aspects of the games, not just for the hell of it.

You know, yeah.

And then like behind it is just like a turn based RPG with sort of a collecting monsters element, sort of like Pokémon, which is cool.

There's a lot of really cool stuff there.

It's sort of like a a montage, a mash up of a bunch of really cool ideas and it pulls it off and it gives it a cool visual style and the music is poppin so.

The music's really good that the art style is awesome in those games, for sure.

You know, they made other games too, but this is early, early North American releases.

I think for Atlas, they weren't always making these big RPGs and weren't always making these big releases.

But the snowboard kids games one and two, we are going to be talking about just the first one this time around, but we'll keep the second one in our back Winter pocket.

But yeah, they're they're a big name now.

And at this time when this game came out, they weren't quite in that sphere.

I guess they were.

Rising they.

Were they were getting up there?

Yeah, This was sort of like the start of that, I would think, at least in North America and you know, because they had some Japanese releases and stuff too that were not out here but eventually were or whatever.

Anyways, their their style was Japanese releases until games like this came along.

And then Persona was it was a big thing.

So before we get started, we got a couple things to talk about, but I want to remind everyone that voice cast dot app slash remember 64 is where you can let us know what you think of the show, what you think of the games we're playing.

Share your thoughts and we will play them on the show.

That is something we've done a couple times.

Paul from Remnant Controllers was one that chimed in a little while ago talking about the Castlevania games, which were was one of our fun live recording episodes from back in October.

So check that one out.

But any game that you want to talk about or if there's one that is coming up or have already played and covered on the show, just toss us a toss us a quick little voicemail there you can 5 minutes or less and just give us your thoughts on something or just the show itself just to say hey.

We'll we'll include you in the show.

Why not?

Voice cast dot app slash remember 64 and also at Console Creatures because we're part of the console Creatures family.

Just letting everybody know we are doing extensive coverage on The Game Awards, which as you're hearing, this is either on right now or is just behind us based on when this episode is going to be released.

Dude, I can't believe Donkey Kong Bonanza took game of the year.

Oh my, I cannot believe That's Kids is the best RPG of 2025.

Nomination.

Wow.

What this that's our live reaction clearly and and our end of the year favorite games, top games of 2025 S Each one of us part of that team are writing a huge list of games that we've played and then eventually crowning what our game of the year is as a group.

So check that out at consolecreatures.com and the creature cast and PlayStation generation as well for those podcasts.

All right, Jiggy, now it's been a couple weeks since we sat and had our recording about the Sergeant Heroes 2 with the fine gentleman from the 3D O experience and talking a little bit about the Analog 3D.

Oh, look at that.

We were talking about remember there's AI was sending a message this time, but I'm down with all the bad flu.

No, Paul feel better, Paul feel better.

Oh, well, you can send it in for next time.

We got a couple episodes still around out 2025 S Yeah.

So the analog 3D was something we're talking about because it was just the first couple days of impressions and reviews and stuff.

Now we've had a couple weeks with it out in the wild.

Part of that wild is you, Jiggy, look back, you have your white analog 3D.

How's it been going?

I think you've had it for roughly a week I think at this point something.

Like that, I think I've, I've had it for two weeks at this point.

I'm trying to think what, well, maybe it is.

Maybe it has only been a week time.

Flies.

Time flies when you're having fun with an analog.

I feel like it was, I'm trying to remember if it came before Thanksgiving or if it was right after.

I think it was right after Thanksgiving.

Right after.

I think I've had it for like a week and a half.

I think it's been in between those time frames.

It so a rocky start, I'll say that much.

There's sort of some pre emptive stuff.

The the biggest thing I think was that initially no ever drive compatibility.

That's right.

But cricks, Crick, ZZ, I don't know how to say your name, I apologize.

I think cricks KRI.

KZZ, it's written on here.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Oh yeah, I should just they.

Released a patch.

They released a patch for it and so I downloaded the software.

You do need an actual N64 to like load the latest firmware update for your ever drive in it, but I did that and I popped it in my analog and it worked no problem.

So then it was like smooth sailing after that.

And you've had like no issues with it.

It's been like just.

It's been working great.

Same old, same old.

Nice.

And games do look better, although I will say I haven't quite tweaked the settings.

I think to where I'm like, yeah, that's how we want it to look.

The problem is options and understanding what all those options do.

Coming stock with the analog.

They give you the BGMI.

Think it's called monitor settings.

Which?

Sort of looks like ACRT filter on and it makes it look good for sure, but I, I'm not crazy about scan lines myself And so I kind of like the clean look, but at the same time, like I feel like there's, there's other things I shouldn't compromise on and like, I don't know, I, I I'm still tweaking it.

I'm still trying to get it to that optimal setting.

I will say I popped in banjo Tooie immediately.

I made like a little short about it on my YouTube if you guys.

Want to see the footage?

Yeah, yeah.

Go check it out or put it, put it here.

I don't care.

Actually, I'm going to find it.

Yeah, yeah, keep.

Talking I I put up like some literally just like my phone on my TV, which people appreciated because most people would just like do the digital out and like capture the footage, but I'm like, no, I want like the raw like so I showed some of Banjo Tooie specifically a part where I'm walking up to the beginning of cloud cuckoo land, because when you walk through this cave and go into the bubble, like the frame rate starts to dip a lot and no frame dips.

It just was solid like all the way through, which is pretty cool.

Very nice.

On the back because no one really shows the back.

There's an HDMI.

Sorry my focus is messed up.

There's an HDMI 2USB SUSBC for power.

There's this this little SD card.

I'm assuming it's for updates.

I actually haven't updated it yet and I know there's a bunch of firmware updates.

So it comes with its own little SD card.

I guess that's probably where the where the firmware is on that.

And then the other inside scoop is this power light here is actually the Bluetooth connect button as well.

Oh, no way.

So yeah, I didn't know it was a button until it explained it to me, but I have something that was very, very irritating, not even mildly irritating, very irritating.

And I was like actually upset about it.

So it can, it has Bluetooth, it can connect to Bluetooth controllers, cannot connect to the Bluetooth NSO controller, Bro.

Like, what are we doing here?

Everyone's like, oh, you got to get an adapter and I was so.

Like a Bluetooth adapter for it, no.

Yeah, I was so disappointed about that.

I'm like, it has Bluetooth.

You can connect other Bluetooth controllers.

What?

What's?

The.

Lock.

That's like that's like when I when I want to play something on PS-5 with someone.

My copy of Arc Raiders for example is on PS-5 but my friends have it on Xbox and PC.

It's cross play so no problem.

But if I have these headphones on that I have now that are just Bluetooth Bose headphones that are used for music and stuff when I go to work and on the train and things like that, it it doesn't connect to the PS-5.

It doesn't.

You can't use it on the PS-5 so.

Freaking annoying.

It doesn't.

It needs like proprietary PlayStation headphones.

Like, are you kidding me?

I think I had a similar issue with these these arctis ones and I had to I actually had to unreal.

So they have like an adapter that you plug in and so I had to plug that into my PlayStation.

It's so stupid, dude.

Stuff like that is so annoying.

It's like the ones trying to be like Apple like stuff.

I thought, I thought Sony was past this shit with their whole fucking Walkman Discman shit from like 1997.

Like, get out of here, you know, like, come on.

I don't know.

Oh, here's your video, by the way.

There we go.

Oh yeah, here, unboxing.

Yeah, look.

At that the.

Size of that knife.

Now that's a knife.

I gotta say the boxing was pretty clean.

Yeah, I've seen a couple shots of the unboxing.

I did have a couple comments or like someone like messaged me and they were like I did not get any cables with my analog.

And I'm like.

I'm pretty sure that's a factory error my friend because I got 2 cables.

I got a USBC and an HDMI and they're both white which I appreciated.

Yeah, that's cool.

Yeah.

Do not like the the feel of the power button personally.

Oh yeah.

Oh, look at that.

It's.

It's not bad, but it's like the N64.

It's like a switch.

Like you turn it on, it's on, you flip it off.

This is like a toggle like it.

Goes back.

It's one of those, yeah, the back.

And forward if bounces back no matter what.

And it doesn't click.

Not really, no.

I.

Don't like that?

Reset Button's fine I guess.

Hey, thumbs up.

Look at that.

Thumbs up.

But I did.

I did like it and what I've played on it has run great and the little menu interface at the beginning, like you pop your cartridge in, it pops up a little image of the game, like somehow it's able to recognize that hey, this cartridge was Banjo 2E and that was pretty neat.

I.

Did like that, yeah, I've seen those those shots and stuff does it what does it do with the Everdrive?

Is it just open to the same menu that?

It says like unknown cartridge and or something like that and then when you click into the ever drive it just opens up like.

Normal opens the menu.

It usually has.

Yeah.

The other thing, too, is we messaged back and forth about this the other day.

Tim.

Yeah, here we go.

What Tim was mentioning just a few minutes ago.

I kept it.

I kept it to ourselves just until we got to this.

But Analog, this is from Engadget.

Like, I like these.

I like this wording.

That's why I opened this one.

Analog is weaponizing your nostalgia with the translucent versions of its 3D console.

And that is exactly what they're doing.

It is a weapon.

So if anyone doesn't know what they're doing now, so they announced.

So this, this started shipping out within the last three weeks to the general public, right?

Like Jakey, for example.

And this is as of this recording, I think 2 days ago.

So this is like the first couple days of December, maybe it was on the 5th or the 6th or something like that, that they announced this.

They said, oh, we're restocking the originals, the black and the white one and the controllers.

So hey, if you didn't get yours and you want to order it again, there's more coming.

Oh, but wait, the weaponizing that they're doing here, the Engadget is referring to is they are making translucent versions of these that are remnants or you know what what people say like bring back the 90s style, whatever of the controllers and the console itself.

So you're getting if you can think of those translucent colors from the N64.

So if you're not watching the stream on YouTube or twitch right now, or I pulled up like at least one of the photos here, the jungle green 1.

So it's, you know, it's the hard plastic like you would get everything is exactly the same other than the fact that the shell is a see through green, orange, purple, blue, I think clear and then like a grey.

Nothing's different about the hardware itself otherwise or the firmware.

It's a little it's cool looking shell.

It's a little bit more expensive for the console.

I think it's.

This is a gold one too, just like.

My oh, gold.

That was the other one.

Yeah, exactly.

So I think I can't remember if I sent you this or you sent it to me and immediately you were just like what the fuck?

Yeah, super mad, super mad about this.

This is like everyone is complaining, but I don't know a single person that's happy about this unless you didn't already have an analog.

Everyone who preordered this, it is a total slap in the face.

It's not that we don't love that they did the fantastic colors and everything 'cause that's amazing.

That's.

Awesome.

It's a great idea.

Unfortunately when you pre-order the console back in October of 2024, which we both pre-ordered, Dave and I both did, Dave cancelled his respect.

Like respectfully like.

I understand 100% it was.

Like.

Cost with the tariffs and they were like, oh, you're gonna have to make the difference.

It was delayed.

Right, right now, if anyone wants to know right now Canadian, I priced out what it's 299 USI think it is.

Is that what it is?

I think it's.

252-5299 was the was the new ones, 299 of these translucent ones, 299 prices out right now with tax and then paying extra duties which understandably they don't include the duties on top of things.

So the estimated duties and all that is almost is is over $600.00.

It's double the price.

I'm not doing it, I'm sorry.

And that's without the controller like I I didn't get the.

Controller I was like Nah, right?

But but you wouldn't do it either.

I, I don't think I'm, I'm assuming it's not, it's not a reasonable price for me to pay.

So I would love to, I'd love to sit here and be like, hey, I did this, Jiggy did that.

Let's compare.

It is what it is here we are.

So anyways, continue it delayed multiple times which we've talked about.

And then so it delayed multiple times.

So I've been waiting for this because originally I think it was supposed to release like early 25.

Yes, it was like January or February.

It was like 4 months after we were.

Ordered so we, we all preordered it in October and then so it didn't release.

OK, they delay it and then they're like April and we're like, oh, OK, April.

And there's something, something like that.

And then we we get to the time and then they're like, Oh no.

And everyone saw the writing on the wall that they.

Wouldn't do this.

Again, they're like, Oh no, and they're like the tariff situation and I'm like, you guys already delayed for no reason.

Like don't lie to us like you're treating us like we're babies.

Seriously, You know it wasn't because of the tariff.

That's not why they're delaying like it I'm.

Not saying it doesn't.

Have an effect, but that is not the reason why they.

Delayed it?

Why they already?

Did it.

They had this planned and they just used the tariff as an excuse.

And then they're like, well, we're assessing what we can do.

And then they like, they were like, oh, July or something, They said another date, I think.

July or June or something?

Yeah.

And then they're like, oh, no, it's delayed to.

And then they put a generic like quarter four.

And then everyone's like, yeah, OK, believe it when we see it.

And then they're like, oh, it's releasing.

It's gonna ship out the end of November.

And it was like the beginning of November.

We're all like, whoa, hot dog.

Finally we get to see the analog.

And at this point, I, I think there maybe was one video floating out there that maybe showed some stuff like 1080 snowboard that they released.

And everyone's like, oh, this could be like heavily doctored, like we don't know.

And then so the time comes, we get the console and then finally all the people that pre-ordered it a year prior, we're all happy we got it.

And we're like, OK, maybe analog's not so bad.

They pulled through.

The console's great, like super cool.

And like a week later.

All these new colors come so not only did they like supply and demand and they're like, oh, we don't have the supply to keep up with this demand.

We got to delay it and then they're using the tariffs as an excuse.

But now they all of a sudden they have all these different colored variants that weren't an option for us to pre-order.

Like what anti consumer?

Like for real?

Right.

And like, it's so frustrating because we've talked about this, we've talked with the guys in the last episode too, with Bill and Thrac is, is like their products are good.

And you've said this before too, like what they make is is good.

It's just there's there's something about the way that they go about their process here and how this hat like it's just it's hustling.

Do not understand how that is.

And these aren't easy to make.

You know, if it's a really good product.

I understand you take your time if you have some delays and what as long as you're communicating, you know you can you can swallow that pill a little bit for a little while.

You know there is frustration to it like you were saying, but like this part of it, I feel like is is a weird play by them.

I know you want to get people hyped up because oh look, it's out in the wild.

People are like, wow, I really want that because it sounds like it's awesome.

Hey, here comes more stock.

That happens with lots of things.

It happened with the switch too.

It happened with the switch like things like that.

It happens, I think with the PS-5, like it, it happens, but then to do this part of it with these, you know, interesting colors and styles, like it doesn't fundamentally change the item, but it would be a nice to have and maybe would be worth that extra 30 or 40 bucks at the time.

You know, I just, it's I totally get it.

If I was in your shoes and I had that thing behind me sitting there or in my hand like it was and and I would be like what the shit?

You know, like.

Man.

You don't feel robbed, but you feel a little bit cheated, you know?

Well, it's like, it's I don't know, it's like, it's like you go to the the ice cream shop and you're like, hey, what flavors you got?

Vanilla and chocolate and we're all like yay.

And then the ice cream I get AI get a vanilla and I'm happy I have ice cream.

Yeah, no, you don't.

I have ice cream, yay.

And then another kid comes up and says I would like cookie dough and then they give him cookie dough and you're like, what?

I wasn't told that was an option.

Like that's how it feels.

Right now, you said you were all out.

Yeah.

It's like I would rather have cookie dough, but I had to settle for vanilla because that's all I thought you had, right?

But it's just, it's just crappy.

And if I were, if I was being honest, like they were very much like every single e-mail about the delay.

They're like, well, if you want to cancel your pre-order, like do it.

Which is what I did when I got one of one of the delays and it wasn't because of the delay, it was because of the cost.

But they were like they were like highlighting it.

They're like, if you want to cancel your pre-order, do it here.

Like they wanted people to cancel.

Absolutely.

And then the people that hold on to it like you, you can't just like apologize for delaying the console and be like, hey, this would have, this would have been like the right thing to do.

It'd be like, hey, we'd like to apologize.

We'd like to either, you know, give you a slight refund or like give you a discount on like the special controllers, the now the fantastic colored controllers.

Like that's a small thing you could have done.

Or even better, you could have given us an up an option to upgrade, I guess upgrade to one of these colors, be like, hey, sorry it took so long.

We have it done.

If you'd like to change it out for one of these colors like, we'd be happy to do that or.

Even if they make you make you pay the difference.

Yeah, for you want to pay an extra 50 bucks and get the the different color, we'll do that and fulfill your pre-order that way.

Yeah.

At least it's something.

Yeah, but I, I just feel like after all that, it's like the loyalty, they're just like, oh, chump.

Yeah.

And they, and they do not charge nothing for these products.

I know they're, they're technically a premium product in a lot of ways, but I understand the frustration.

So I, I hope, I hope that this is temporary and you just, you know, can enjoy it and not get too steamed about it and stuff like it's not the end of the world, but it is frustrating like you've.

Been I'm not super.

Mad about it, It just feels very like.

What are you doing?

It's annoying.

Like why would you do that?

Yeah, yeah, I'll get over it.

One day, yeah.

Of course, but when they.

Sponsor me and send me a bunch of free stuff.

When they definitely sponsor the show after what we just said.

Maybe their competition will sponsor us, hey.

Hey, what's it called?

Metro Metro I don't know, is that their?

Metro mod or something?

Oh.

There is, there's a competitor now.

Isn't that the Palmer Luckey 1?

I don't want to.

I don't want to.

That's now I'm good.

With the big button that looks like a Fisher Price toy, sort of I.

Don't know, I can't remember which one he's involved with, but I don't want that one because he's involved with.

It I don't know, maybe, maybe there might be a couple at this point to be honest.

There, there probably is.

Yeah, maybe we'll get.

Where is it here?

Maybe we'll get our.

What?

What up?

Our Ambernicks.

Maybe we'll maybe we'll get an Ambernick.

Maybe we'll do that.

How about Ambernick makes one?

I'll do that.

I have a couple of there's mod.

Retro.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Mod Retro.

And then I got a logo in the back of mine anyways.

Dude, Mod Retro, I just got a comment on this.

They said something super weird.

They were like, they're like promoting their stuff.

And they're like, Oh, yeah, and it's gonna have a bunch of unreleased N64 games.

Like they're like saying it's like this exclusive thing for their console.

And I'm like, what are you talking about?

Like a ROM?

I'm like.

Hey.

Doesn't this just play N64 games?

So this could be available anywhere for any console?

Like this is just for you and B.

Like what games are you talking about?

Like are we talking about like 40 winks?

Like you're getting some sort of like, publishing thing to make this game.

Are you like talking like some like thing that somebody made in their basement that's like 4 and 64, which, yeah, cool stuff there, but it's like it.

Yeah, but you can access that usually anywhere usually.

Usually.

So I asked that specific, like, I don't remember who it was, whatever it was.

I asked them, I was like, what do you mean by this?

And they did not respond.

Yeah.

And they were responding to like, every comment except for that one.

They responded to my other comment that was like, oh, yeah, I like the look, like whatever.

And they didn't respond to that.

And I was like, what?

And I was replying to someone else because I was like, can you clarify this?

Like what does this?

Mean right?

But no like and it wasn't even like a negative thing.

I was legitimately just asking like the question, what do you mean?

What does this mean?

What do you mean?

What do you mean?

What do you mean?

What do you mean?

What do you mean?

That's the the Jennifer Lawrence What do?

You What do you mean?

What do you mean what?

Do you mean what do you?

Mean oh gosh, oh I love that.

What do you mean what?

Were we talking about?

We were talking about snowboard kids.

Oh yeah, snowboard kids.

That's right.

Yeah, let's get the.

Super fun intro going.

All that being said, the analog 3DS still like build quality is nice.

You won't regret it if you have one, but there you go.

Yeah.

But there's frustration of all those.

There's frustration with the company, not this company.

Oh, the intro this.

Is.

Classic this is This is a classic job with bangers with me.

Oh.

You'll be very scared.

At the most it's worth it.

A little longer intro than I remember it's.

Very long.

Oh, epic.

Pretty.

Yeah, it's gonna work it.

All right, so let's talk about snowboard kids.

I'm gonna go to you first because I have a feeling that this is.

I don't.

I don't think I asked you, but maybe you've you've said it before.

I have a distinct feeling this is part of that pile of games that you and your dad picked up.

It is indeed yes and actually the I sent you a while back on discord I found a picture of the games that or like some of the games like I had the the cases.

You got from like the store or whatever?

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Yeah, yes, the.

Store.

I meant it's.

Somewhere, it's somewhere, but the store was Mega Video.

That was the official name I found.

Like I don't know, maybe 10-15.

It could even be 20.

I don't know.

It was quite a few games.

I found the boxes.

I don't think it was everything we got.

I think a lot some of those were loose, but like these are the ones that had cases and if you look on the I think it was on the very bottom snowboard kids right there I.

Just find it now because I, I remember I said like, oh, I'm going to post it or I'm going to show people or whatever and I just completely forgot.

Life Yeah, yeah.

Snowboard kids this is this is 1.

I actually I played quite a bit of this one growing up.

I just really enjoyed it.

In my mind, it was basically Mario Kart 64 slash did Kong racing, whatever, but snowboarding that, that's basically what it is.

That's.

What they're going for?

It is, it is essentially like a Kart racer.

Like you have items, you throw it at each other and stuff, but it's like that gimmick is snowboarding.

It's a different, it's a different feel.

The movement's different.

The levels are pretty cool too.

I always thought the level design in general, I mean, we'll get into all of that, but I just think it's a really neat, unique, fun experience because just picture a snowboarding game with Mario Kart mechanics.

That's that's the idea, right?

And and The thing is with snowboarding is or any kind of sort of downhill sport, which I guess would be this in scheme or a luge or something.

Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam.

Tony Hawk's.

Luge.

Skeleton 1080 the you can't do laps in the same way, right?

So they have to find another way to make that happen, which was one of my surprises of how they did that.

I didn't really think about it.

So for me, I'll get into that in a SEC, but I had a little bit of experience playing this.

You know, it was it was a rental a couple times.

I don't recall if I played more of the 1st or the 2nd, but I do remember playing both because I know that the roster isn't exactly the same.

And then there was one particular character that I that wasn't on this one.

I think there's only four or five.

In this case I think there's 5.

There's five.

There's not that many.

Right.

So anyways, that's how I realized the difference when I booted this up, I was like, oh, there's that character I recognize must be in the second one.

So anyways, I so most I would say mostly I went to this blind.

I knew I knew what it was.

I knew kind of that it is that sort of like you're saying Mario Kart type style or whatever of, of just snowboarding and fun kids, goofy music, couple abilities which I didn't remember what any of them did.

Most of them are like shells and stuff which we'll get into and everything.

But but yeah, I, I had a good time with it.

I, I don't think it was super deep or whatever, but I, but I did enjoy it.

I think it's, it's kind of fun.

Once I got a hang of what each item did, once I got familiar with a couple of the races, I was like, yeah, I get it.

Oh, I did a couple tricks.

Yeah.

All right, I I get this.

It's it's a, it's a breezy sort of like it's understandable why this would be fairly common to be a rental, you know, because you could enjoy yourself in a weekend with a couple friends with this or even on your own, honestly, solo, like, yeah.

And that's kind of all you need.

I don't think this is something that you have to you have to play for hours and hours on end.

It's not really meant to be that.

It's just a quick cart racer on snowboards, you know?

And that's cool.

I'm.

Looking forward to just playing the second.

Game because I've actually never played the 2nd 10.

Sweet.

I've only played.

The first one but but I played the crap out of the first one growing up and I would say that part of the charm of this game, it is a multiplayer experience.

It is one of those great couch.

I was going to say Co-op.

It's not really.

Co-op but you know what I mean.

Competitive couch.

Competitive couch.

Local play like that's the way to do it.

This might be a fun NSO release if it ever comes to NSO.

I honestly when.

We said that we were.

Going to play this, I thought it was for some reason I thought it was on there because it just it feels, I mean, obviously you know, there's a whole other reason why certain games are aren't on it, but I don't know, I just it feels like this belongs on there because it is very much a pick up and play type of game and would thrive on there honestly.

And then if they did like the online where you could play with other people, that'd be amazing.

Yeah, it's pretty.

It's pretty, it's pretty fun.

I like it.

I've always, I've always sort of had this heart for this game because it's it's one that you're right, I don't know anyone else that owned it.

And I only owned it because of the crazy situation that I happened to be in with that rental store.

But yeah, it's I didn't know anyone else that had Snowboard Kids or the sequel.

Especially the sequel I think is actually considered like a rare N64 title at this point.

It's a pretty late release.

That's why it's one of those 2000 like didn't sell a crazy ton.

And like, people that have it now sell it for like 150 bucks or something stupid, yeah.

But yeah.

The the first one I mean I had a blast with this as a kid and I remember liking that the characters sort of looked like anime.

I don't know like anime crossed with like Bomberman crossed with like packed like Bomberman is if for some.

Reason there's something about it's like they're still they're.

Silhouettes.

Maybe, or it could be the eyes or something because like obviously Bomberman doesn't have this giant nose like these characters do, but there is something about the size of the head that the silhouette of their bodies that feels like this is coming from Bomberman.

That's, that's something there was something I was trying to, I was trying to think of I think while I was playing it and that that was the thing was that.

So that that is exactly it.

I'm trying to find the manual so I can get the characters pulled up.

But Oh yeah, the characters, I think.

I have.

Do you have it?

I had the name of them.

OK so 6 playable characters, one is unlockable so even.

Though there was an unlockable, so we.

Have slash.

I don't remember who everyone is.

I do remember Slash is the one with the black spiky air that this person is playing as in the yeah, he's like the, he's like the mascot.

Essentially, he's like the main guy.

Yeah, he's the main guy in the in, in both, in just the series in general, I guess.

Yeah, yeah, he's their.

He's their Mario.

He is the one that I played.

As growing up I think, I think I played a little bit as the one with the white cap as well, which I do not know the name, but there's Slash, Nancy, Jam, Linda, Tommy and then Shinoben.

Is the last.

Unlockable character which is like a ninja looking person that is a little bit blurry and I think.

That's from 2

That's from 2:00, but that is all the characters in.

It's a little bit blurry.

Yeah, Jam.

I also played.

As jam.

I went between slash and jam personally.

Yeah, I played as.

Linda, which I think had good cornering, I think was her thing.

Yeah, they had.

They have different.

Stats, so they thought that far ahead and then in addition to that, you can also pick your board and you have a couple different styles of board like I love that I didn't.

Realize that was a thing.

Yeah, yeah.

So it gives it just a.

Little bit more customization than Mario Kart at the time, which I think is is a pretty cool and unique thing.

And if if I.

Remember right?

Isn't there a store too where you can buy like?

Yep.

So you have.

You have.

Three boards, one of them is an all around, one of them is better for cornering, and I think one of them is better for tricks or for Speaking of this.

It's great.

There's like.

An.

Invisibility item and you disappear but your board remains, so you just like you.

It's like, it's not like Mario.

Kart where the ghost.

Just like, hides you entirely.

It's like, Nope, just the board.

It almost looks like a glitch.

Yeah, it's like, Oh yeah, that.

ROM.

That ROM is really.

Bad, you know, like it's, it feels like Yeah, right.

Yeah, so there's.

So there's three boards, you can upgrade them in the store.

So you can actually get ones that have, you know, they, they come, they have stars beside them.

So it goes up to.

I think it was at the.

Four or five.

Stars each, each stat, every character has those stats.

And then each board will enhance those stats as you go.

And you can choose those from from the beginning.

There's three you can choose from and then you can go and the coins that you collect while you're on the races and on the tracks, and the coins that you win, when you win the races, you pocket those and you can go to that store and you can upgrade your stuff, which I had no idea that was a thing because I don't remember doing that as a kid.

Maybe I did.

I just don't recall it.

And I thought that was great because I actually found that there was a difference in all of these.

Like I noticed that when my corner, I think I went to the cornering thing eventually because I realized the later maps, the later races have a lot more weaving and tight corners.

Yeah.

So I felt like that ended up being a really important part.

And speed was something too, but I felt like as long as I wasn't losing my edge or falling off the level or, you know, not getting around that corner properly, I could get up to a speed with some of the abilities and the and the power ups and stuff.

So, so I thought that was great.

I thought the whole upgrade your board, get new boards thing was awesome and something I didn't expect.

And I've talked about this about the SSX Series A bunch of times on the show, referring to it and stuff and it just immediately reminded me of that.

I know it's not quite the same because those stats and those games are obviously later on a different level and stuff, and that's totally fine.

That's doesn't have to equal that, but it reminded me of that.

And that's one of the things I really like about those games is hey, it's not just crazy do tricks.

It's also customize your board and it may.

Make make it work.

For how you play the game and stuff, and that doesn't happen a lot with these types of games.

So as simplified as the races sometimes are, especially early on in this game, that part always felt like it added something to it, which again, I didn't even realize or expect.

So I thought that was great.

That was fun.

Yeah, it is super.

Fun and then the the items.

Pretty standard items I.

Would say fine.

There's not a ton of.

Variety.

There's is it an icicle and a snowman essentially do the same thing?

Yeah, basically.

They're just basically a shell like.

The Mario Kart shells, that's basically what they are.

Yeah.

I'd have to remember.

What?

What?

All of them.

Do 'cause there's there's different you hit the little.

I think I don't even know what they are.

I was gonna say they're clowns, but I don't think they're clowns.

Like boxes with the the dog on him or something.

Something like that.

Yeah, that's a.

Very every time you're looking at.

It you're moving really fast so it's hard to it's hard to tell.

It does look like a dog though.

Does look like a dog.

I think that might be what it is.

Yeah, yeah.

But yeah, there's there's.

Like different ones.

One is sort of like Diddy Kong Racing.

I have one that gives you like sort of like boost items and the other gives you like weapons.

And there's two to and you can.

You can hold them at the same time which which is fun and not.

A lot of games do that.

Which I didn't realize at first.

So at the top of the screen you have two boxes.

If people aren't watching it right now while we while we talk, if two boxes at the top, one of them is like you said, sort of like projectiles or I guess what?

I guess the the better.

Way to describe it would be like 1 is like attacking and 1 is like defensive or like or speed.

Yes, defensive.

Speed one effects you and.

One like goes for the other person, the other people.

Yeah.

Yeah, exactly.

And there's two different so you collect, you can collect them at the same time.

They cost money.

So when you do tricks or when you pick up coins, which I didn't realize at first, 'cause at one point I ran into one and it didn't break.

And I was like, what The what like?

Why this game is ready I I.

Was like, oh, maybe.

I did something wrong like that.

I is that a fake one?

I thought maybe that was something that I didn't know yet, but really all it was was I didn't have enough money yet.

So that's, that's what you have to.

That's why I have to do tricks as you go and wait to pick up some of the coins in order to break the boxes.

So yeah.

So anyway, so the point is you can have one of each at a time and one of them I think it's either B to use it and the other one I believe was RI believe to shoot it off.

Anyways, you can use them simultaneously, which is really cool.

So you going to get.

Was it maybe it?

Was yeah, I can't.

Remember it was now it now it's been about a week but B1Z I'm pretty sure.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

So it's super easy to use, it's intuitive Once you figure out, oh, this button does this one does that.

It's sort of, you know, easy to figure out and and do that so I don't get out of here AI dog.

Or whatever the hell that is, I think.

I think a little.

Less intuitive is the like trick mechanic or the like jump jumping and trick mechanics, yeah, but there.

Is this sort of added?

So essentially the whole time you're going downhill, but every.

Once in a while you'll.

Have a ramp or a it'll sometimes it literally says jump like it did it says jump.

Yeah, most of the time, yeah.

You basically.

You can just go off it and nothing will happen.

Or you hold A and you sort of do like the the little like ducking like your Crouch down to gain some speed and if you release it at the right time and sort of move the joystick in a direction, you'll do a trick depending on what direction he orientates the stick and that.

I I don't, I don't feel like you.

Get enough of a reward, maybe you get a.

Little bit of speed.

I don't know if you get, do you get coins for it?

You get coins, you get, yeah.

That's that's the biggest.

Thing.

Yeah.

That's the biggest thing is that it gets you coins so you can collect the items and and do that and then if you have enough, you pocket it at the end of the race and stuff.

So that's the biggest thing is that I think I was expecting this like speed boost again, going back to the SSX series and just it's always like The thing is you get a little bit of a boost if you land, if you land your jump this you're landing and unless you do a trick really late or anything.

So it's not, it's pretty forgiving in that way, but it, it's for the money, that's what it is.

And you can do depending on the jump, depending on your speed at the time, you can do a couple of flips.

Most of the time it's a couple of turns.

It's not like you're doing anything too crazy, but you do have to still pay attention to what you're doing.

But it's, it's OK, it feels a little.

Like you, you do 1 and you're sort of done most of the time.

Like I would.

I would rather.

But it it like holds your hand to make you do that, right?

It's sort of like, it's sort of like, no, we don't want you to do anything else.

And it makes it feel a bit sluggish.

Whereas like other games that would do something similar like Tony Hawk, if you went off a ramp and started doing stuff, you could do as many spins as you want if you think you can land it.

Yes, that's right.

I appreciate that.

More like, I would rather it play a little more like that.

It makes it feel a little a little slower paced, a little sluggish, a little just like I'm weighted down a little bit by the games mechanics.

It adds a little bit of.

Adds a little bit more thought process, maybe a little bit more.

You have to be a little bit more careful and I know you do too.

You're racing, there's items, there's other things you need to try and figure out as you go in this.

But because it's not the deepest mechanic out there or deepest game out there other than like let's say the boards, which it's not deep, but at least it's variety maybe 2 has.

It you know I'm.

Going to say maybe 2 has that maybe that's one of the things that that snowboard kids 2 does is that it's a little bit more what what we would assume is a Tony Hawk SSX type of approach to the tricks and stuff.

I don't know.

I'm just guessing I really don't know but but yeah, that's true.

I I probably not.

It's.

Just more characters.

And I feel like it's just more content from this.

Yeah, which I'm OK with.

Yeah, like it's.

Fine, more.

More is better, probably new items, things like that.

But like, it's true, I I kind of wanted to do more with some of the tricks sometimes and you can overdo it and end up like stumbling, but like.

You said it's it's.

Kind of telling you just do one, collect your 250 coins, 200 coins and just get back downhill and just get to the race and pick up a couple items and and sort of move on type thing.

And I guess that's fine.

I don't know.

I mean, yeah.

And Speaking of downhill.

When you get to the bottom of the hill, yes, you.

Hit the ski lift.

Yeah, so when I was talking about.

Yeah, when I was talking about how you can't do laps, you have to do it in a different way, this is what they do.

So what do they do, Jiggy?

Yeah.

So you race.

Down and once you sort of get past the the finish line and then you have to look for it, which I like this part.

It's not just to like hit the area and it auto like directs you or auto moves you depending on like how fast you got there.

You actually have to look for where the ski lift like turntable.

Comes up or.

Whatever.

Yeah, Yeah, that's it.

Yeah, it'll it'll.

Be sitting there and like.

You have to look, is it in the corner?

Is it like straight on?

And if you miss it and like hit the wall, you'll you'll get a little like, you'll be like on your bonk.

And then you like trying to navigate back to that little thing you're doing like little hops, like trying to move It is a nightmare.

And often times what will happen is CPU's behind you like go and hit that thing dead on and get in front of you.

And yes, it changes your place.

It's so it doesn't doesn't matter if you get there first.

If you don't hit the the turntable and get lined up, no, you're screwed.

You can literally go from first to.

Last, just on that one, just on that one part, yeah.

Which?

I, I I.

I'm with you.

That I like it, but I don't like that it affects things that much.

Like I don't know how you I don't know how you change that.

I, I don't have like an idea of like, oh, do it this way, do it this way.

Like I don't think the automatic like, oh, you crossed the line so you automatically go back up the hill first.

It's true, a little.

Extra.

Is is good?

It adds a little bit more thought to it and we're talking about how the tricks aren't super involved.

This is maybe a version of that I think.

Is maybe like oh instead of having.

To be crazy accurate with the tricks, you have to make sure you're paying attention when you get to the bottom of the hill.

So maybe that's just sort of the the replacement for that or something.

So I like it, but when I got frustrated, I was very frustrated with it.

It does.

It does.

It has that effect.

Once, yeah, if you get screwed by it, you're going to hate it, but if you don't, it's fine.

It's great.

It's totally fine if.

You, if you skip ahead of two people, that is great.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

For sure, that's the best mechanic.

It is, but it's a unique mechanic.

I never it is really seen that in any other games.

So.

Yeah, that's like a lot of snowboarding games though, to be honest.

Well, there's not that many anymore anyways.

Right.

Like I don't even know the last.

One that there.

Was like, I know there's Ubisoft made like a outdoor sport, extreme sports game or something a little while ago, I can't remember.

What it's called but it had like multiple.

Sports in it like it wasn't just snowboarding had like Hang Gliding and all that kind of stuff fairly it's kind of cool it was like a online multiplayer type thing like semi open world type approach like that type of thing yeah sounds cool but yeah unless there's.

A player base.

Ubisoft's just going to let it go, right?

So yeah, that kind of thing.

And I'd rather, honestly, I'd rather single player or coach competitive like this is so.

But other than that, I can't think of anything else honestly.

Like in recent memory that is of this style at least.

Yeah, right.

It's very unique, yeah.

So that's kind of cool and.

Then the items, let's talk about the items.

So we thought we touched on a little bit before the ones that I wanted to that I was trying to think of.

And then as we watch the video, I sort of remember the difference.

One of them is like an icicle, almost like you shoot.

Like a piece of ice at.

Someone and it basically just acts like a like a shell like a green shell or red shell or something like that, right?

It doesn't home.

I don't think it is like a homing thing like the red shell is, but it's.

Similar I think.

As to the green shell, but then the other one that I thought was the same, but then what re watching is like, Oh yeah, this is different is the snowman.

What's cool about the snowman is that if you hit your opponents with it, they just turn into a snowman and they just keep they keep going.

They get stuck, but they get.

Stuck.

You can't.

Move.

Yeah.

And what's cool is if you hit a wall, then they fall over and I was like, oh, that's great.

It's such a fun, cartoony way of changing it up a little bit.

And I, and I like that a lot because maybe you hit it and maybe you're like, ha, ha, I got you.

I got you, bitch.

But that just.

Keeps coming up today, but.

Watch Chappelle Show.

Everybody it's great, but what's what's cool is like you could be in a big open area kind of like what we're watching right now and if they don't hit anything it all it does is kind of slow them down a little bit and that's it.

You know, like so you kind of.

Feel like yeah, I got you.

But not quite the way that I hoped.

And I.

I think that's kind of fun too at some.

Unpredictability to it.

So yeah, they're just.

Silly like a.

Giant fan that comes out behind you to boost like we're watching now trying.

To think what else, there's the ghost.

That sort of slows down your opponents.

Yep, there's.

Drop broke.

You throw plates at people.

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, that's like.

That's like essentially like the the lightning bolt in Mario Kart for just it drops these giant plates on everyone's head and they just like go and they get scratched.

His number, whatever.

Yeah.

Yeah, and then the rock.

So the rock is one of the reasons why I want to talk about items is because it's a banana peel essentially in in a Mario Kart equivalent.

But what I didn't?

Like about it is that it's.

So hard to see.

Oh yeah, 'cause.

It's so tiny.

It doesn't have to look like an obstacle like on on the on the racecourse or on the lap.

Like I don't think it needs to be that.

But man, sometimes I hit 1 and I was like I had no idea that was there.

I was really bad at paying.

Attention to them.

So I think that's why I didn't like it.

It's because of that, Yeah.

I mean, they do blend in.

They really do.

Yeah, that's that's what and.

I, you know, maybe that's what they were going for.

I'm not, I'm not quite sure, but that one frustrated me because I just couldn't get over the fact that like, I can't see this thing.

I can't see this so think.

That's there's the hand.

What does the hand do again?

I don't.

Remember what the hand does, Yeah?

I do not recall.

I know it's there but I don't remember.

What it does?

Yeah, I don't remember what it does.

And then and then there's and then there's the races themselves, right, The tracks themselves.

I this one in particular I really liked.

I like the way that the night time stuff was.

Yeah, and what's?

Cool is in certain areas you're kind of, you know, going off a big jump or you're in sort of an open area and you can see all the lights in the city in the background and stuff.

I just like this part.

Here I don't know if it.

Looks like there's a city.

That's what it is.

I didn't even think of that.

The moon is, yeah, the moon's in the sky.

And so it's it looks good.

It looks pretty fun and looks pretty sharp.

I think, you know, for a for a somewhat early and 64 game and one that has a decent amount going on with the speed and things like that like it it it's pretty good.

It's a pretty good looking track for the most part.

The game looks OK, but yeah, it's not one that I would.

Say is a looker, but I wouldn't say it's bad either.

It's pretty on par with a game like going on or like, Oh yeah, that's another one it looks like.

Yeah, Yeah.

It's a sort of that that's.

Anime vibes, right?

Yeah, that's what it's doing, yeah.

Over the top anime.

Vibes Anime Anime.

Extreme sports, That's that's what it is, yeah.

So do you remember any particular other than like the night time one?

Do you remember if there was like other ones?

Well, that's the one I was gonna highlight.

I was gonna highlight this specific one because I also liked the night time.

I felt like it was a like a pretty stark change from the others.

That sort of feel, say me, but different layouts, you know, I don't know, It just gave a totally different vibe.

That very first track.

I remember a ton.

Yeah.

Yeah.

And they get more and more complex as you go.

It's pretty much, yeah, I think the giant snowman.

I do.

Remember too, it's like it's, it's hard for me.

They they sort of blend together in my head because they're not dramatically different like there's.

Not a huge amount.

Of variety, I think that's what makes the nighttime 1 stand out a little bit more because.

It just it's lit differently.

It looks different, but is this?

You say?

You say no variety, but Jiggy, what about Grass Valley, where you're literally snowboarding on grass?

I forgot about this.

Yeah.

I.

Got to this one.

I was like Grass Valley.

What is that like it that can't like it it?

Shows you sort of like a preview.

Of like what it would be and like, oh, maybe there's some like grass you have to get over.

No, the whole thing is literally downhill.

This like village.

That's what I get.

I played the crap out of this as a kid, but then I like when I went back to play this, I just played it a little bit to like re familiarize myself.

I'm like Oh yeah I remember this so my bad.

Yeah that's cool.

It's so random though.

It's like.

Yeah, we're snowboarding.

So now we're open it on grass because we can.

Because you can.

It's so funny.

Yeah, dude.

And the.

Little like only because I don't really notice it when I'm playing, but when you like.

Smack into a.

Wall and stuff and it has like a little like Batman style, like bang pow.

Yeah, yeah, that's pretty funny.

It's it's that anime style.

Like it, it, it really is that that that's like you said, I think that's pretty much what they're going for.

I, I think for the most part they, they nailed it.

It it's not, I don't think you're you're going to spend the most.

Time with this game.

Oh, a little Kitty.

Hi, Kitty.

Yeah, I got her.

I don't think you're going to spend the most time with this game, but the time you do spend, you know you'll.

You'll get the hang of the.

Mechanics in the first couple races and then maybe you won't come in first every time.

Maybe you just need a couple tries for some of the more complicated stages.

But after that, you know, you got yourself a, a goofy downhill game and yeah, you know.

Yeah.

That's cool.

Yeah.

I, I think it's oh, oh.

The parachute's the parachute's cool.

Yeah, yeah, I forgot about that one.

I saw it happen a few.

Times, but yeah, that's the one where if you hit your opponent.

They get immediately flown up into the air, like vertically.

Just go whoop and.

Then they.

Slowly float back down.

I think what's cool about this game.

Too.

That's it.

Sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off.

No, no, that's it.

That's pretty.

I had an.

Intrusive thought and I just.

Started blurting it out.

You gotta do it just the the Persona like enemies and stuff and like so.

Many, so many characters.

That just remind me of Persona.

And so it's got that like, it's like this weird bomber Manny.

Sort of look.

And then like underneath it there's persona and you can see it, you can feel it, it's there, it exists.

What's cool too is that like.

Yes, it is called snowboard kids, but like literally they when you pick the character it tells you how old they are.

And these are all like 891011 year old kids, right?

So it's like, you hear a title?

It's like, oh, it's snowboard kids.

Yeah, they kind of look like kids.

And it's like, no, no, these are kids on snowboards competing.

Yeah, you're like, it's like.

They're playing in.

The backyard type of thing, you know, you could sort of say that about that kind of thing.

And when you were talking about Persona before, how like that's the sort of everyday life type stuff is something that you really like.

Not that that's what this game does, but like, maybe this is part of what they were going for.

Maybe this is sort of what kicked off some of those ideas is like, hey, well, why don't we use that sort of fun going back as a kid type idea and expand it into RPGs and whatever.

Like, I don't know.

And you know what?

I'm gonna.

I'm gonna.

Backpedal on what I said about the stage variety, because now I'm like, Oh yeah, I forgot about this, I forgot about this.

Like, yeah, there's more than I remember for sure there's.

8.

Stages, I think there is this again, not a ton.

There's not a ton of content, right?

And I probably the reason why the the first couple that are that are similar are so ingrained in my head is because I probably just like replayed that over and over and over.

Yeah, like doing the races and stuff.

It's like any games when.

When we were younger, like a lot of them, we've talked about this before where it's like, yeah, you sort of play those same couple of stages over and over more than any others, even if you play the game with the control.

Like you need a controller pack so you play the first level like 5000 times, Yeah, as I did, yeah.

Oh, Rayman, Rayman 2.

By the way, coming to Switch online, I don't know if you saw that even more obscure tonic.

Trouble is coming to switch on one tonic.

Trouble like I saw.

That like, I love that.

Tonic trouble is getting represented.

I think I included it in my like weird N64 games I like.

Yeah, but.

How do we get this before?

Donkey Kong 64.

This makes no sense to me.

I know it just makes 0.

Sense it's like.

I mean like I was your game and your property.

What the hell?

Yeah, it's like if it.

Wasn't a Nintendo like specific.

It just doesn't make sense to me.

But I'm not mad about it.

I just.

It's strange.

It's.

Strange.

Why yeah, I don't know.

Well, I'm, I'm looking forward to playing, potentially playing Tonic Trouble on the Switch.

If if that's something I need to play on the go at the time.

That's how I'm going to, yeah.

Save states would help with that.

Game oh will it OK so there you go so.

Maybe when we get to that, which I know it was something that might have been on our list somewhat.

Oh for sure, I definitely.

Talk about it.

Yeah.

I don't know.

We're well, we're going to.

We're definitely.

Going to play it.

I just, I've never played it.

I know nothing really nothing about it.

Prototype Rayman too.

Yeah, OK.

Not as good.

But.

There's something there.

All.

Right.

I mean, it looks like it has.

Fun.

Cartoony personality, I'm always down for that, so it's got a lot of personality.

That's where it shines, yeah, and arguably more.

Personality than Rayman 2.

Than Rayman I'm I'm throwing.

It out there?

Although Rayman 2 is the better game, it's got the game play.

Yeah, but.

Tonic Trouble definitely has a lot of heart and just bizarre they just went for.

Something they're.

Like, let's do it.

I'm down.

I'm down for that.

I think, I think that gets us snowboard kids check it out, you know, like it.

It's not really something you have to look too deep into or you're not going to get hours and hours, like I said.

Casual fun treat.

This as a weekend rental type game you know however you end up playing it and and that's and you'll you'll get enough out of it we'll we'll play 2 eventually we'll let you know sort of the differences and how we feel about it but but that's the first one and I still recommend it I don't think it's a home run but I still recommend it and I assume you're kind of on the same page yeah there's nothing there's.

Nothing wrong with this.

Game, I think, I think it's it's fun.

I played I played it a lot growing up.

Yeah.

The soundtrack, though we didn't talk about the soundtrack.

I freaking Oh yeah, let's here.

I'm gonna, I'm gonna play.

A little bit of the music, yeah, we gotta play some of that music.

Legendary go to.

Quicksand Valley, Let's do that.

I'll see now.

The music helps me remember the stages.

I remember this track.

This one was fun.

Too.

Actually I like.

I don't.

I mean, I'm usually not a fan of.

Usually not a huge fan of like.

Like desert sort of games or levels or whatever.

But like I liked the style of this one.

I had a couple of offshoot areas you go to and stuff do.

Yeah, so the music got got your.

Nostalgics going Oh yeah dude I freaking.

Love.

The music, it's so, it's so N64.

Oh, very much it's.

Very much like.

So basic and in.

Time so awesome.

Let's go to that night, one that we liked.

That's good, that very first.

Track the first one.

Yeah, rookie.

Mountain.

Yeah, Rookie.

Mountain.

Another game, just like we talked.

About with Sarge's heroes.

Yeah, they they put their.

Their freaking company name all over the place, all over Atlas is.

Everywhere and I love.

It all like the.

Billboards and whatever and there's like, fake.

Ads and things like that.

There's other things that stick snowboard kids on it, A lot of chat, couple spots.

Yeah, yeah, that's cool.

Yeah.

Oh yeah, this is snowboard kid signs.

So I was just thinking of the yellow one.

Yeah, it's a lot of fun, Paul says forever in controllers goes.

I'm going to rent this for my local block.

Oh wait, it's 2025 and I have back pain.

Speaking of back pain, I literally just.

Got up from the couch and my back hurt before so.

That's.

What happens when you're?

Close to 40, everybody.

Not to age myself, but I just did.

But that is how that happens when you got to pick up a 20.

8.

# kid multiple times a day and you're almost 40.

Yeah, SO and I.

Tend.

To sleep on my stomach.

So yeah, I'm great.

I'm great.

I'm in great shape, guys.

I'm in great shape.

Great shape.

OK, so.

That's Snowboard kids.

And I didn't tease this at the beginning, but but but but but but I have another little music quiz for you, Jiggy.

I'm just going to test this.

Out for two.

Seconds because I know in the past we've run into a couple of issues with this with sound, but yeah, I mean, the music just played for.

Me, no problem.

So yeah.

So if I do this.

Yep, got it.

You got it.

OK, so.

If anyone hasn't heard yet, I made two multiple choice pieces here for Jiggy.

So in the past what I've done is I've played sound from two different games.

I think only one of them had like actual in game sound.

The other one was just soundtrack and give them four choices and there were just 64 games.

This time because we are in the winter season instead of just limiting myself to the N64, one of these is not from the 64 and we'll just be a game.

So we'll get to that in a second.

First one or all is.

A.

Is a winter themed in game sound, so I'll have.

Music and gameplay.

Sound on it so winter themed you still leave it at that.

I'm going to be a little bit broad.

With how I describe it, but that is what this one will be and then I will give you your choice in one SEC.

I'm just going to pull up my choices.

Here.

And I'll read them out to you in a SEC, but here is the first bit of song here.

It goes on like that for a little bit so.

Clearly not a racing game, right?

I had to leave that in there like the.

Sound.

Because the music would kind of mean nothing.

Almost.

Yeah, yeah.

OK.

So here are your options for that one.

I can replay it if you want to, but these are this is the N64 one.

So this is an N64 game.

This particular stage race, whatever you want to call it, is winter themed.

I'm not sure if that'll help or not, but I thought I'd stick to that.

OK, we have a Beetle Adventure Racing B Mickey's Speedway, USAC Extreme G or D Donkey Kong 64.

OK, well, I know.

Which ones it's not?

It's definitely not extreme G, right?

It.

Yeah, and.

It doesn't.

It doesn't help.

That's actually funny enough because they are pretty common.

I did not play Extreme G or the first game.

Beetle Adventure Racing.

Beetle Adventure Racing.

I've never played either of those, so it's got to be one of those two.

I'm going to stump the jiggy.

Oh man, maybe, I don't know, Paul Remnant Controllers has his answer in.

I'm sure you can see that if you wanted to, but Beetle Adventure Racing, he says.

Beetle Adventure Racing, Yeah.

What if it's a trick though?

What if it's a trick?

What if it's?

Donkey Kong 65.

Yeah, right.

Oh, gosh.

Well, I'm just gonna have to take a guess.

Yeah, and I'm gonna.

Oh, gosh.

I don't.

I don't know.

I'll.

I'll just go with what Paul said.

I'll go with Beetle racing.

Beetle Adventure Racing.

Let's see if that is correct.

Play this a little more.

This helicopter.

That is correct.

Beetle Adventure.

Racing a The answer that was pure luck, Or I guess pure.

5050 shot and I went with Paul and he could have been tricking me but I knew it wasn't.

I know the start of Mickey Speedway USA and I'm like that is not Mickey not getting me with a rare.

Game, Yeah.

Hey, Congrats.

Paul.

Paul and Giggy.

Boom.

Good job Paul for one sophomore.

Yeah, good job, man.

OK, so here is number 2.

So this one is not an N64 game OK, but it is holiday themed OK so this.

Is.

I'm pretty sure I.

Captured this from the Genesis version of this game, so I will double check that as it plays, but here is your choice.

I believe these are all 1992 games.

Yeah, 1992 on Genesis.

Here we go.

OK, so again I can replay it if you need to.

But 1992 Genesis games?

Your choices are A How the Grinch Stole Christmas, B Home Alone, 2C, Jingle All the Way, or DA Muppets Christmas Carol.

Oh.

Gosh, I have never played any.

Of those, it's not, it's not.

That fair, honestly.

Go back, go play it one more time.

I.

Want to I want to listen to this yeah OK, so just.

Keep again, I'll I'll repeat the things again.

I should find a way to actually pull up the actual choices so you can see them.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Home Alone 2, Jingle All the Way, A Muppets Christmas Carol.

Those are your choices.

I will start the replay right now.

All right, that's what we got.

OK, there's one option, I.

Forgot.

Can you list them one more time?

Christmas.

Home Alone 2 Jingle All the Way A Muppets Christmas Carol.

OK.

So Paul says.

Muppets.

He's going for Muppets Christmas.

That's actually where I was leaning.

To OK, all right.

But the question is, do I follow what Paul said?

I mean, he what?

He he's he knew Beetle eventually, like he went for it because he knew.

I think like these are guesses and that's totally fair.

I would I would be honestly, if I was in your seat, I'd be guessing as well.

It's it just sounds very.

Bouncy.

It sounds very like Happy which gives me Muppets vibes however.

I'm going to go.

I'm going.

To go I didn't even know Jingle all the way was a game.

Let me just throw that out there dude, if you're.

Tricking me and that it's not.

Even a game that's really funny.

I'm going to I'm going to go Jingle all the.

Way just because sounds fun.

OK, so.

Turbo.

Time.

Turbo, man, turbo.

Time.

It's not playing for me dude.

It's it's not helping, OK.

The answer is.

B Home alone Two.

Really.

Yeah.

Home alone 2 so that.

Is I can't remember the exact name of the stage.

I wrote it down and now I lost it.

It's when he's in the toy store.

OK, and the big toy?

Store from the movie.

That's what it is.

The other ones I actually don't know.

If any of those are games I have no idea, I just.

Picked Christmas?

Movies.

I was like I'm.

I really needed to look and I was like, hey, Tim got home alone too.

Tim.

Did Jingle all the way even.

Released in 1992.

No, it's like 95 or.

96 I should have thought that through.

A little bit more, but.

I was.

I was literally.

I was like, OK, Home Alone's a good Christmas, you know, most people have seen at least the first two, like whatever, you know, And I was like, I got to find other ones that are some that are older, some that are, some are in the 90s or whatever.

Jingle All the Way for some reason was one of the ones that came to mind.

Even though I like, I never think of that movie.

It's like way later.

I love Jingle All the Way.

That's yeah, I'm actually going to find.

My guess is that it's.

90.

5 but I think it's later than that bro I.

Think it's like late 90s it.

Is 9096.

Oh, 96, OK, earlier than.

I thought, yeah.

Yeah, that young Schwarzenegger.

Schwarzenegger.

Sinbad.

Phil Hartman's in it.

Phil Hartman's always a good time.

So yeah, tries to seduce.

Schwarzenegger's wife unsuccessfully.

Movie is ridiculous.

I used to own that.

I had the clamshell of that movie.

Heck yeah, the white clamshell of that.

And also, I think I've told this story before, too, but Home Alone 2, it's not the first movie I saw in theaters, but it's the first one I can remember seeing the movie theater.

Yeah, it's the first one I remember.

And I went with someone who I don't know, has ever walked into a movie theater since then is my uncle.

Like he's just not that guy.

Like he'll watch.

Movies, But he'll just like, you know, when we were growing up, he would just rent them or what I like.

I just it just wasn't his thing and now they're all.

Like almost.

70 like they're not going to the movie theater.

So yeah, yeah.

And there's not much out there for them to watch in the movie theater anyway, so why would they?

Dang yeah, Tim, I just picked one title that I thought might have a game.

Yeah, exactly.

That's exactly what the IT was.

It does sound like it just.

I should have.

If I would have given that another like 30 seconds of thought, I would have worked out.

No, wait, Jingle All the Way didn't release in 1992.

I could.

I could have thought that through, but Muppets could have.

Gotten me.

Still, I was leaning toward Muppets in the 1st place, and the only reason why I didn't say Muppets is because Paul said it and I was like, he was right the first time, but there's no way.

There's no way 2.

Times in a row 2.

For two, yeah.

That's fair, and I did know.

For sure home alone.

2 was a game, not that I've.

Ever played?

It but because I saw the Angry Video Game Nerd episode with Macaulay Culkin where they played his old Home Alone games, I knew that was a game.

Yeah, that's actually a pretty good one.

Nice.

Yeah, he's a good time.

And the holograms there's.

Lots of games of that.

So yeah, yeah, there's tons.

And I was like.

That and and Muppets are like from the 80s and and 70s, like the I mean the original Grinch, I think's from the 70s.

So it's it's a ways old.

So anyways, every once in a while a skeleton Marv in my sleep.

Yeah, dude, Paul's right.

The the whole were were Marv puts his hands.

On the sink.

And just gets electrocuted.

I remember it's scaring my brother because at the time, Oh no, I guess it was my cousin.

My brother would have been too young to go.

Actually, my brother would have been 2.

There's no way he would have.

He would have gone to that movie.

My cousin being a little bit freaked out about it because we've, we'd seen the first one and watched it multiple times.

So we're excited to see this one.

It didn't really have anything like that.

It was very, I mean, there's slapstick either way, but the first one's a much more slapstick.

There's no extra stuff in it.

And that's like their version of CG was seen his skeleton when he got electrocuted.

Yeah.

Yeah, great movie.

Great.

2 movies and then Macaulay Culkin was no longer around for movies after that so.

Or at least not in the Home Alone movies.

Richie.

Rich he.

Did a couple.

I.

Think he did it in between.

And maybe a few after my girl comes to mind.

Yeah, he did a couple in.

In the 90s, but he didn't really.

Uncle Buck?

Uncle Buck is pre, Yeah.

Pre home alone.

Yeah, he's like four or five in that.

Like he's young.

Yeah.

You really my dad's brother.

Yeah.

Man, that scene.

Oh my God if anyone hasn't watched it I don't know.

I'm assuming it's also available in the States, but there's a John Candy documentary on, I think it's on Prime Man.

He is so big here in Canada, especially in Toronto, that like watching anything John Candy.

I'm all down for it and it is a very good documentary.

It's they got a lot of, you know, a lot of the people that he worked with and stuff over the years.

Mostly.

Canadian comedians like John Levy and and things like that or Eugene Levy, John Levy, Eugene Levy and stuff.

And it's a it's really good.

His his kids are in it and stuff like it's it's a good movie.

So seek that out if you're anywhere a fan of John Candy and stuff like Uncle Buck, because that's actually a big thing.

And Macaulay Culkin's in it too.

He talks about him everything, which is kind of fun.

So yeah, John Candy is one of the goats.

Exactly.

OK, so let's get us out of here.

We have a couple of things coming up to end off 2025.

We are doing sort of a gift exchange.

I love this idea that Jiggy came up with a little while ago.

We're going to have each bring a game trying to decide if it's going to be separate episodes of the same one.

We'll figure that out in the next little bit.

Each bring in a game that neither of us have played, but grew up playing or at least had rented over the years or something.

And hey, I'm going to exchange.

I'm going to give this to you.

You're going to give this to be, we're going to play it.

We're going to talk about them.

And that's going to be our sort of holiday gift exchange type of thing.

So that's going to be to end off 2025.

Look out for that in your podcast feed and on YouTube as well.

And Jiggy, look back.

What else is going on man?

I asked you last time, but now that Perfect Perfect dark is behind you and Star Fox Adventures I think is now too.

It is now behind me for.

Sure.

We're we're joining the DK December shenanigans and going to play through the country series.

I'm going to, I'm going to attempt to do country 1-2 and three all in the month of December streaming.

I'm pretty sure we're going to get through 1 and 2.

Three like 3 might be pushing it, but we're going to try doing like once a.

Week, you know.

And then aside from live stream stuff, I'm working on a croc video, which is pretty cool.

I haven't really thought about anything else.

I kind of got a lot of things that I want to do and finding the time to do everything.

It gets a little crazy around the holidays.

I've sort of slowed my pace down a little bit just around the end of the year here, but I will certainly be picking it up.

Goldeneye Double O Agent.

Yeah, right.

I don't why, Although I don't think it'll be as hard as Perfect Dark, I still, I don't want to do that anytime soon.

I need a break.

I still feel like that type of game and stuff.

Yeah, yeah, You know, you just.

Got to.

Change it out.

I think Starbucks Adventures was a good change of pace.

It was like a solid.

I could have beaten it in two weeks, but I, I stretched it out to three.

Yeah, that's all right.

Yeah, it's a solid.

I'm going to I'm going to keep an eye on.

Or or or ping me when you're, when you're, if I miss it, if you're ready to play 2 because as I've talked about multiple times, that is my favorite game ever.

Donkey Kong Country 2 I maybe, maybe.

I'll play it at the same.

Time and again, but that's that's awesome that you're playing those games.

I love, love those games.

In a similar light, I'm going to be on guesting on a podcast, probably an early to mid.

Yeah, probably.

Somewhere.

Oh, I know what it is.

It's going to be in March, Mario Month.

Josh from Still Loading is doing some Mario games again.

And Speaking of SNES games and Mario games, I'm going to be playing Yoshi's Island for that show.

So we don't know exactly when that's coming out.

We haven't recorded it yet, but it is one of my favorite games of all time.

I play it almost once.

A year.

Anyways, like I it's just one of those games.

It's not difficult.

I really like it.

So I'm also going to be playing Yoshi's Island coming up.

So yeah, it's fun.

I'm going to try and stream it too, because it's just kind of fun chill Mario game to play.

And I I've pretty much memorized the whole game that it's, I could probably get through it in like 2 nights, 2 cities kind of thing.

And yeah, so in a similar way.

So that's cool.

Nice Donkey Kong.

Keep an eye out Jiggy.

Look back on a YouTube for all that fun stuff remember 64 show across social media here for us and on Patreon and it looks like when we.

Are live streaming these?

Episodes you can also find us on twitch.

Now it's working.

I figured it out.

Don't use twitch too much and when I stream typically or I'm playing games, I stick to YouTube.

But Twitch is just another place to watch us too.

So if that is your platform that you like, remember 64 show on twitch.tv as well and here on YouTube.

Paul says thanks for the live stream was a great time as always.

Happy holidays and everyone for hanging out.

That's right.

That's a good way to end it, Paul.

You can just be the person that that sends everybody off today because that's a lovely way to put it.

Everybody have a great evening, have a great holidays.

We'll talk to you in a couple weeks.

So not quite end of the year yet, but we'll talk to everybody soon.

Thanks very much for tuning in and go play some snowboard kids.
