Speaker 1

Stuck at home, bored and alone.

You'd think I could have some fun.

Speaker 2

On my own, but not all.

Speaker 1

I bought AF with Cecily and Stephanie.

What's up, everybody?

Speaker 3

It is bored AF and it's your girls?

Speaker 1

What up?

What up?

Speaker 2

What up?

Speaker 1

Y'all?

Now, I'm gonna that's my new catchphrase.

I don't know I trademarked it.

Speaker 3

Remember we've talked about this, but how I used to try to start my sets and listen, I was being I was doing a thing and it was ironic.

But I would just come up and I would I would go like, what's up?

Motherfuckers?

We talked about this a lot, and then you know, it would just be funny because it's like a funny thing to do.

I think because if you watch a lot of stand up, a lot of like black comedians are like, what a motherfucker?

Speaker 1

You know?

Speaker 3

So I was doing a thing but like, how white I am?

That even when I say that it's white?

But do you think that would be offensive?

Speaker 1

Now?

Well, I told you.

I mean, first of all, no, I don't think it'd be offensive.

But I told you that I had that.

My opener was where my holes at?

Right?

I'm not even joking.

It was.

I would say it over and over and people would occasionally be like, I'm over here, and then I'm like no, but seriously, where are my prostitutes?

Right?

Speaker 3

Yes, that was that's like the because we have a similar sense of that's because.

Speaker 1

We we like the same kind of humor.

We get it is what it is that I steal jokes from you.

Speaker 3

That's because you know but listen, it rubs off.

It's not stolen.

Speaker 1

Well, I never stole a joke from you, but you get Stephanie, and we've said this on the show was very generous with her jokes, so if she had a joke that she never had done on TV yet or whatever.

I remember I was doing a corporate gig and I had to fill like forty five minutes.

I don't know how I got that gig because I was like two years into stand up up and I didn't have enough material and stuff.

And he's like, take that, takes something joke.

Take that.

You gave me a bunch of jokes to use at the corporate because it wasn't going to be televised.

It was pre cell phone.

Speaker 3

Yeah, I've I've given I gave Bonnie McFarlane did a gig recently.

I gave her the joke about don't you hate when you're having sex?

Don't you that joke?

Speaker 1

That's a great joke.

I didn't know that one.

Yeah, you gotta be careful because you gotta go.

You gotta go.

Don't you hate when you're having sex?

Don't you?

Speaker 3

But if if the audience is too smart, which you know they rarely are because they're audiences.

Every once in a while, someone will go.

Speaker 1

No or whatever, and then you're just fucked.

Speaker 3

Then you have to go I do, which is then you just seemed angry and sad, frigid.

Speaker 1

Yeah, the timing is everything.

I'm trying to think about my hat or anything, like I feel like I had something like that.

Oh yeah, I had a I had a dumb joke that I could never make work, which I don't think I've ever talked to you about because you wouldn't have seen it.

And the thing was, like, you know, as I get to the end of my life and I'm starting to get all like philosophical about everything, and I'm like, I wonder like when I die, like if I when I get to heaven or whatever, if like if I'm just like if I'm going to find out, like who was right, you know, like was it like the Jews, was it the Muslims?

Was it the Christians?

And then I pause and I'm like God's like no, it was voodoo, Like that was the answer was voodoo all this time.

But the problem is when you say that, some somebody will always yell out one of the ends.

They'll be like Jews and they're like no, no, no, no no no, don't yell out your own religion, no missing thing.

Speaker 3

Yeah right, yeah, yeah, that's that was the issue.

But that joke, the sex joke, was such a killer joke that you had to take the chance.

It would always make me a little anxious, like, uh, if it gets fucked up, it's real bad, the timing's really bad.

Speaker 1

Then you can just turn it around on the audience and go, you guys fucked it up.

Speaker 3

I had a thing, oh believe me, yeah I would do that, but I really I'm not that long ago.

Let because poor Bonnie was doing like a casino and I was like, oh, yeah, that's the hot and she was like I just don't you know, they're not going to like me.

And I was like, well, here you go.

This is how you do well at a casino and she said it killed, totally killed, and of course takes something I wanted.

Speaker 1

She did take something too, because I want to do it again.

I was like, do you want No, Bonnie just did it.

I can't do it casino.

Somebody's in both places.

What if I was like on the Tonight show, it is not a big deal.

She just did she do it on the Tonight Show.

No, Well, then I'm going to take it because I'm trying to do like some little tiny run.

I've been trying to do it again, which is the most excruciating.

And I know your question is going to be why why would I want?

Why am I seeking?

I'm literally you like it?

You like stand up?

I do like stand up, but I'm you know, you have to start completely over.

And they asked me for clips, so I send them clips from the improv, you know, but they're so old.

And then I'm like well, and they're like, well, what are what's your I'm like, well, you know, I did just for laughs, And then I'm so embarrassed about like when, but you also kind of want to say no, I'm a pretty seasoned comedian.

It's true, I haven't been doing it for a long time.

But like, I trust me, but you can't say that.

You have to say all the things that they want, but then they still don't add they still didn't invite me to do it.

Yet I have to like beg people for stage time, and you end up getting there and it's like seven people, all this ubering somewhere, and you got to you got to put this in your instant story.

It's a whole thing, and then nobody shows.

Why am I why?

I remember those days so well and I had such a good plan back then.

I was such a so tenacious and now I'm just like lost.

Yeah, like maybe maybe I could find some part of myself doing some shitty room and silver lake, but I can't even do it.

Why don't we start a room?

Oh my god, that's actually a really good idea.

Speaker 3

You try to suck me into doing stuff that I have so I wasn't even gonna I can't even say so little interest.

I have absolutely zero interest in.

Speaker 1

But you have money, So you'll put the money into the room.

About this, I'll host, I'll book it, and you pay for it.

And then if we make any money off of the room, which we won't I'll give it back to you, and I want to take a cut.

Speaker 3

I'm trying to find me on YouTube the last time I was on stage.

Speaker 1

Hold on, Oh my god, I don't have much on YouTube.

I really just didn't get that much.

Well I could, I have, like, I have footage, but I'm not all right.

I found I found this little clip.

Do you want to hear it?

It's like a minute long.

Okay, and was it?

Now?

Speaker 3

You have to it was what was uploaded in twenty twelve.

But I was pregnant.

I was very pregnant.

Okay, you need to know that for the drink no, because yeah, no, it would have been like two thousand and seven.

Okay, so almost twenty years ago.

Last time I did stand up, I was very well.

I did stand up again after I got sober and my twins were like eighteen months, but like one more time.

But this is the last time from what I was actually doing stand up and I was very pregnant.

You have to you have to realize I was very, very pregnant.

I was like eight months pregnant with twins.

Okay, ready, I let we go.

Speaker 1

There we go, because I got to get something off my mind.

I'm a little worried.

Speaker 2

There's like a slight chance I might be pregnant.

My period was due on the tenth.

Speaker 1

On April one, guy I did.

Speaker 2

I took a bunch of those home pregnancy tests, which are so unrech liable.

Speaker 1

Well, I call him.

Speaker 2

Home pregnancy test.

Speaker 1

Some people call him ask the magic eight ball.

Speaker 2

And I was in the same response reply easy, try again later.

So I'm not gonna worry about it right now because I totally feel like I'm gonna get my period any minute, because I beg you your artin.

Speaker 1

What I'm being like thirty nows.

So's I gonna don't worry about that.

I mean, unfortunately, I could never do that again.

You you sound so different.

Your voice is really different.

It was twenty years ago.

I wasn't an old lady.

Not an old lady.

No, it's you have like a different accent.

It's like a totally different you know, you had a British accent.

Cecily, I lie everybody, it's me Russell Brand, Like are you sure that's you?

Just play a Rickey Jervais clip?

Like you know every time we start this show, I want to say for years, and because we've been doing board for over five years.

Yeah, over half a decade.

We have somehow filled forty minutes to an hour every week.

Seriously, we've barely taken off like probably more than any podcast that exists.

Okay, we don't ever okay, but we filled it.

And almost every time I start us off with something about stand up comedy, and then we talk about stand up comedy, which I love, but we do and like.

But you know what, today, I don't think we've told any of the same story.

I think they're all new you also, no, I haven't played you that clip before.

No, you've never played that clip.

I never said how I'm trying to do stand how embarrassing it is to try so hard to do stand up again when I'm like, hey, I was actually doing pretty well.

I don't know why I have to like beg someone to do their room and echo Park.

Do you remember why now you've done stand up?

Not even that long ago, but do you remember like within the area, But do you remember the.

Speaker 3

Last time you did stand up?

When you were like doing stand up?

Was there a time that you were like, yeah, I'm not going to do this anymore.

Speaker 1

I think it's when I started dating Jeff, so I got in this very long term relationship, and I everything that I was sort of working towards like kind of settled down.

So I was, you know what it what kind of was like I loved going out.

I loved being at the clubs and flirting with comment like that was sort of part of the whole thing for me.

So I think once I got in a serious relationship, it wasn't as fun.

And then also I like had jobs, like I got the morning show, the country morning show, and then I got the other the radio stuff that I still kind of do, and so I just like didn't need I was too tired.

I was getting up so early.

I couldn't But I couldn't.

Speaker 3

Tell you the I probably two thousand you were done with the morning show before you started dating Jeff.

Speaker 1

Yes, I had finished that in two thousand and two.

Yeah, so probably I don't remember exactly what it was.

That's a really good question.

There was one last time in two thousand and six, and then I came back to it and started doing it again in like twenty twelve for about five years, and that was just ridiculous.

I was doing like pot dispensaries, oh, for two people.

There was one show that was like a very hip show.

I think they still have it.

I don't remember what it's called.

It was like really nice guy.

There were real cool dudes, and there was like a pit bull, not the pit bull, not the musician, but a pit bull on stage.

You had to like it was just there because I was so cold.

There's a DJ what is our world that you have to say?

Not pit Bull, but I mean, I just I don't know what I love mister Worldwide, not that.

And then there was some DJ that was there that was like you do like a record scratch and then they would bring you up with him like going like oh, no blur, no blur, no blur.

But it was maybe for five people literally at a pot dispensary, like what are we doing?

Speaker 3

And that wasn't even that's not that long ago, and that's not even a bad gig.

That wasn't even a bad gig.

That didn't chase you off of it.

Yeah that it's yeah, I don't, I can't.

Speaker 2

I don't know.

Speaker 3

I'm like, there's something that feels and you know, I'm sorry to anybody who doesn't who doesn't get it, but there's something that feels amazing about having been a stand up.

You just get certain jokes that nobody will ever get anytime.

Old friends of mine write like a crazy thing on their wall about like some old gig every single person just just because it makes us all laugh.

We'll go who books that, like, no matter what is all of us.

It's just a thing that we all do.

And if somebody doesn't do it, then somebody else will to make you.

Speaker 1

Have to do it first, someone had put up it like a terrible story about well they're all terrible stories about like Gaza, and somebody asked to I mean, you got to get you got to be able to like take it, you know, yes, yes, yes your licks.

Speaker 3

What if I talk like that, you got to take your licks?

I mean it's just it is sort of like we've all been to war.

I mean just there's something about doing stand up that you like get each other like nobody else gets you.

Speaker 1

Yes, well some I'm not gonna say who the person is because that would be mean, but my friend, a friend of mine, I'll say who my friend is.

My friend Aggie is part of the Henry Mike grew you know that group that I love.

Okay, and he is so fucking funny.

You guys, check out Augie Smith.

He's brilliant.

But he will send me a screenshot of this very hacky comic that we all know.

And I'm not going to say his name because he's a nice guy, but he'll just so, and then he'll send me the screenshot of him like holding the you know, like when they when they flip the mic and it's upside down and then they flip the mic upside down, and so that's the screenshot of him like looking off to the side.

And then I'll make it bigger and it'll just will He'll screenshot it bigger, back and forth.

Hill.

It's just like one eye like but you don't have to say anything.

There's no words.

We don't have to say anything.

Speaker 3

It's just the face, right, It's just that face of the guy holding the mic upside down, like so wacky.

Speaker 1

He's the guy that has like the third arm and the headshot.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, And there is something very special about being able to do that with somebody.

Yes, Oh, that's one of the stories.

I was going to tell you.

This is actually really funny.

You know, my friend Mark, who's a he's a very funny comic.

He did Letterman a lot, but then he switched to being a writer and we went to go see Henry perform last weekend talking about those of you who don't Yes, and so it was the whole whole gang and it was just really fun.

And he, my friend who's a writer, was telling me like, sometimes he gets annoyed because of people.

I don't know how much I can say, you know, it doesn't matter.

I'm not going to go too into what he writes on or whatever.

But he was saying how he doesn't like hack jokes obviously, such as that was crazy.

I just peed a little.

He really hates I just peed a little.

Speaker 3

M hmm.

Speaker 1

We didn't talk about this last week, right, we did?

So we did.

Oh my god, oh my god, we did.

Speaker 3

Yes.

Speaker 1

No, you know what.

It wasn't on board, that's what it was.

We'd already recorded board.

It was on one of the things it was talk about it.

Yes, it was on it was on our Bachelor in Paradise episode, which is so random.

It's like, you can't you can't waste board jokes.

But yeah, our jokes, and that's instead.

We should talk about this on board, but we don't talk, and we are audience.

We share our audience now, but some people don't listen to Bachelor so well, it was the one where we were just like, what if you made it more specific because you're like, what is wrong with you that you beat a little because something made you laugh?

And so're like, I deep vein thrombosist a little we find like the most technical medical term.

That's just terrible.

A little I stroked out a little.

I mean that's not even I think deep vein thrombosist a little is great.

Speaker 3

Yeah, it's unfortunately it's a mouthful, so I'd have to think too hard every time, like what's the what's it called?

Speaker 1

Again?

Speaker 3

That's that's the joke where you're trying to do like a thing and you go, ah, what's the thing?

You know where like there's veins, but like you know, you're like, oh, not an embarrassed.

Speaker 1

Remember when Tig did I think it was deep Night Show.

Speaker 3

Deep vane thrombosis and you're like, yes, I livesis.

Speaker 1

The little or like okay, when Tig did I think the Tonight Show or Conan?

I think it was Conan And she forgot her jokes and she wasn't joking and it was really fucking brilliant.

She just forgot what she was gonna say and then just like made it delightful.

Unless she planned.

That possible that she planned it, but yeah, it was like she started to say the joke and then she couldn't remember it, and then she just was like, oh my god, like E's bit.

It was really funny.

She probably planned it now that I think about it, and what was how did she make that funny?

It was like, I don't remember.

She just kept retracing it to try to find the punchline.

She's like, you guys have done this like a thousand times, Like she probably because she also had the great joke where she moved the stool the whole time.

She was like fool and sat down to tell a joke, but she didn't feel comfortable, so she just got up and moved it and then just moved the stool the entire that was her whole set.

Speaker 3

Well, the joke of that was that it just made such a ridiculous noise, so she just kept doing it.

She just kept scraping it along the floor.

Speaker 1

I mean, that's just genius.

Though.

I mean I remember like laugh like laughing until I cried, and you don't often see comics that really make you I don't know, like even things that you've already seen before, but it just like being able to commit to that and sitting with the silence is amazing to me.

Speaker 3

I always had this conceptual idea that I never put into fruition because I'm not technical, but I wanted to do a thing with like a laugh, like a laugh track, where it was just I would just get a huge laugh and applause over like every over, every joke, so oh yeah, and then I'd.

Speaker 1

Be like, oh my god, you guys stop, like I have seen that.

I have sort of seen that this was okay.

Speaker 3

But keep in mind, my last time doing stand up was almost twenty years ago, so this was twenty five thirty years ago.

Speaker 1

I was nobody was doing it.

I just thought it would be really funny.

That's why we do it at our club.

Why won't you hustart this club?

We could call it like Shenana gowls.

Oh my god, let's call it Sheanana gowls.

We'll just get only women.

Oh my god, please do this with me.

You know this is going this is going to bring me into just something really quick I want to talk about, which is it.

So I'm watching this show.

I told you about this before we came on the air, and you were like, yes, I brought this up to you.

Were you not listening this Building the Band show?

Speaker 3

I think maybe because I hadn't been turned onto it yet, so I think I was just going along with you, like, Okay, what's it called?

Speaker 1

What's that crazy show?

Speaker 3

Then I start watching it for myself and everything, Okay.

Something to know about me and Cecily.

We do have some different tastes in television.

I like some really shitty Netflix shows.

There's something like comforting about them to me, and Cecily does not like what else besides this?

Well, you know how much I love Love Is Blind and you hate that show.

Speaker 1

I don't hate it.

I didn't hate it at first.

I do do not enjoy it now, but I didn't hate I liked it the first couple of seasons, but then I just it's too long.

Speaker 3

Well, I'm super into this, and if you're listening to this on Rose Pricks, which you probably are, we are going to do.

I'm going to make Cecily watch the So we're recording this early, but I'm going to make her watch the Fine the Reunion which airs on Sunday, so it already aired, and I'm going to make her watch that, and then I'm going to tell her about all the couples from UK.

Speaker 1

This is Love is Blind UK.

Speaker 3

I thought it was a great season, and so she's going to watch it and have no context for like what happened during the season, and I'm going to explain it to her.

Speaker 1

Yes, and I'm going to try to choose, like who I sign with, and let's see what kind of take I have, like, and I'm going to be like Cecily, what the fuck?

No?

I mean there are shows like, okay, I'll give you this, I have a different you have slightly like you love King of Queens, you love a multiicam like you mentioned laugh tracks.

You kind of sort of can't watch shows that don't have a built in And I'm like, because I.

Speaker 3

Don't know when to laugh unless somebody tells me, oh my god, you're such an elitist.

Speaker 1

I mean, I could see how you would think that I was an elitist from where you sit.

Speaker 3

I need an assist, like, you know, if Kevin James is doing something funny, I don't know unless like other people.

Speaker 1

Tell me, oh my god, I just thought of something very interesting.

This is okay, how long are we in?

We're we're twenty minutes in and I just thought of something interesting.

Okay, but that's how that's how bard Oh she wants to tell us about building the band.

Speaker 3

Just hold I thought for a minute, because this it does play into you're gonna understand the connection I made, Because so building the band is like they all these people are in a pod.

Sorry to trigger you, Cecily.

Speaker 1

Eat it.

I don't like a pod.

I don't like the pods.

I'm gonna call it.

I'm gonna name it something cuter.

They're in their pea Podsal's some kind of jokes that you're gonna get a Shnanagls on Friday.

Okay, so this is this is leading me to this.

Speaker 3

Okay, So these people everybody auditions and then people get together and they like decide if their vibe is right sight unseen, and then they're in a band together.

Now the problem is they give themselves names, and all of the names are so shitty and they're so much like Shenanagals, like they're so there's like one of the bands is called Solidified, but it's s o U l yes, no, yes, there's a.

Speaker 1

Lot of cursive singing I have.

There's a lot of like around the world that does happen.

I don't like that love that.

Speaker 3

It's it's it's really good because well, there's one band that's called Midnight to Morning, okay, and they, of course it's not Midnight to Morning, it's morning.

You know, when you have to put apostrophes in, you're just inviting mistakes for like you want to be like in sync?

Yes, and like, but why were they n sync?

Why don't just be in sync?

What's the n I don't mean to be like an old cat skills.

Speaker 1

What's up?

What is what's the deal with n sync?

But I don't get it?

Speaker 3

Okay, I'm gonna tell you the So anyway, I'm watching an episode.

I was literally watching an episode today and the somebody was like, you guys need to change your name, and I it was although it was for the girls, and I'm going to tell you the name of their band.

Speaker 1

Oh my god, okay, what's their band?

Uh?

I already forgot the interesting thing that I was going to say that I was very excited about five minutes ago because I was like, oh my god, I have an interesting thing now, I forgot.

Speaker 3

Well, you'll you're gonna you'll think of it.

But so one of the bands was called Season four and you know how they spelled it s z N four.

No, So it's like, is that a play on the four seasons?

Is that like a play on sizza because it's s z N four But they said, uh, something about like seasonings.

No, okay, that's just Solidified, Okay.

Solidified was told they need to change their name.

Speaker 1

Do you know what they changed it to?

Iconics spelled c O N y X.

Yes, I just I give.

I mean, they're just trying to fail.

I don't why.

And then the band that did really they did really well.

They're called three Quincy No yes.

Speaker 3

And then and then there's Midnight Till Morning, Yeah, with the till Morning.

And then there's Siren Society and Sweet Seduction.

Speaker 1

You know what my band was called?

Do you remember my band's name?

In high school or junior high?

I forgot, I remember, Sorry, Jephanie, you don't listen to us.

We're so good.

I gave you tapes.

It's only on tape.

I don't know how to convert it, old batty tapes.

We were called circo c I r CEO.

I do not remember that.

Were you really called circo?

Why called circo?

I'm so glad you asked, because the song I Will Follow by You two where Bonna goes yah make us acle and he says circle, but it sounds like stirco and we thought that was hilarious.

I was in eighth grade and uh, we were pretty bad.

We were pretty bad.

But my friend who was in the band with me, he was our bassist.

He listens to bored af so shout out.

He knows we were but he was good.

I wasn't good.

He was great.

I was not.

And that's just how it goes sometimes, you know, I can see the truths.

What's your dream like?

If you what's your dream if you're walking down Hollywood?

What's your dream girl like?

Would it be to be in a band?

Would that have ever been like a fantasy?

Speaker 3

I mean I dreamed.

I always wanted to be a singer.

I thought that would be like the greatest thing in the world.

I thought having a beautiful singing voice would be like my absolute fantasy.

And I also used to have really bad nightmares about having to sing in front of people.

Oh, interesting and how embarrassed I would be because I do not have a good singing voice.

It's funny though, because now I don't really care.

Also, I had this thought and then and then I do want to get to this one thing about Theuilding the Band.

I was going to say, no, it's okay, but I was.

I was thinking when I was watching Building the Band too, it is so hard to make it as a singer, Like there are so many singers people.

Speaker 1

I was thinking about this one girl who won the Voice one year, and like she's not really doing anything.

Do you remember her Namel Alison.

I was trying to get her to come on Drunkish.

Her name is Alison One the Voice alis in one Direction.

Oh, I thought, that's voice Alison Porter.

Okay, okay.

Speaker 3

She also was in She was the star of Curly Sue when she was a little girl.

Speaker 1

Yeah, she was a star teller that I walked out of Curly Oh she makes me sad for it was John Hughes too.

Is shocking, But I was old enough to know that were we deserve better?

Does her fault?

She played Curly Sue.

Speaker 3

Then way later she came on the Voice and she talked about being sober, and I'd met her somewhere before, but anyway, I thought she was amazing.

Speaker 1

She won the whole show.

But you've never heard of her.

No, that's so interesting because I like the voice that I liked, I'd like sort of it.

I don't like all of it.

I snipped a lot, I skip a lot too, Okay.

Speaker 3

But also there's this girl, Alison Agan, who also came in like second on the Voice.

Speaker 1

I love her and I see her Facebook posts sometimes and like, you know, she was like playing a little like park.

Oh yeah, well, you know, there's too many people.

There's too many.

Like I was at a party many years ago, god, like fifteen years ago, and I met this guy from that was fourth on the Voice.

He was on Christina's team.

Oh oh, do you remember Pip Arnold.

He was adorable.

He was so good.

He'd I don't I can't quite tell you the vibe, but he had a great, like very crystal voice.

And yeah had to like he was living with like six guys, you know, like roommates and in La and he was so timing.

He probably is still very talented.

Maybe he found like a more you know, purpose, purposeful life.

I'm sure he did but that's the thing.

It's like, what I mean, they don't it's not like they lose their voice.

It's just impossible to get something going right.

It was at a it was at a premiere for something but I don't remember what the movie was.

And there was like an after party and Chip with me and Chip for some Chip and I uh struck up a conversation with him because he was just by himself and he was so delightful, and then we ended up keeping in touch and he had a party and Chip and I were invited, and we felt so old because he was so young.

We were the oldest.

But there were some cool people there.

Really, I do remember.

There's it's like, I don't like not necessarily famous, but I you know, it was a cool I was like, hey, okay, we can be part of this this millennial sure Wang, you know when I was.

Speaker 3

Okay, I want to say this one thing really fast to get it out of the way.

But the thing I wanted to say about building the band too, was that so Liam Payne from one direction who died was the was the guy who was like, what do like the mentor?

Yes, he was helping judge and he was also a mentor, and you know, it's so sad.

You see the show and you're like, oh gosh, that's like that's that's Liam Payne, you know.

And at the very beginning of the show they do a thing where they like dedicate it to him or something.

But it's so weird because he's totally fine on the show.

Like there he seems completely normal.

He's not drunk, he doesn't seem like fucked up.

There's nothing about him that you'd be like, Oh, this guy is not gonna be here forever, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1

Hard to see that.

Yeah, it's so hard because you can see what their potential was.

You can see who they could be.

Speaker 3

Yeah, and I was it was making me one or like had he already been having a lot of substance abuse problems and you said you think.

Speaker 1

He was right?

Definitely was he was.

It was an issue for the band for sure, for their lifetime.

But thing he was booked to do this job and he oh he got clean.

Well, I mean maybe he got I don't know that much.

But you know, we know people like that, and I don't have a problem saying like remember when Anthony Clark, we all knew him and He's a great guy.

I was always enjoyed seeing him.

But he had an issue and he got a job host.

He was on a sitcom and was able to show up for the sitcom.

You wouldn't know watching his show that he was had an issue.

And then he was the host of Last Comic Standing.

But like there was behind the scenes, there's some crazy shit.

Yeah that went down, you know, and if you watched it, you would never know, like people can pull it together for well, do you remember all that?

Speaker 3

I do, I remember that a little bit.

I don't remember like that that was going on that much behind the scenes.

I wasn't really friends with him, but I'm I mean, I'm watching Liam Payne, and I would think, like, okay, if you're a person who's like, you know, wakes up and has a cocktail.

He looked so normal.

He looked really together.

He you know, spoke really normally.

He just didn't seem like anybody who was filming hungover or it.

Speaker 1

Was just so sad.

I wonder how long ago that had been filmed.

I wonder if that was something that's that seemed to me.

We have difference of an opinion on the show.

I didn't love it.

It seemed like something that was shelved for a long time, like let's just put that out there.

We need some content, like it could have been ten years old.

No, No, definitely not.

It was the show that I said, seem like it was built by AI.

Yes, it was like, okay, you'll be in a pod.

It'll be just like the voice, but also Love is Blind and also making the band and we'll just call it building the Yeah.

Speaker 2

I know.

Speaker 3

I think it was just what anything that was produced, same as like Love, Love is Blind or Bachelor because they're like, it's like a year behind.

So they because I because I've seen interviews with the people and what they went on to do right afterwards, it hasn't been that long.

Speaker 1

Did they go on a string in the world?

But is it so sad that he just had he.

Speaker 3

Like dressed really kind of cute and neatly and he just he looked great?

He didn't you weren't like, oh he doesn't look so good?

Speaker 1

Right?

Speaker 3

It looks great, super normal, very calm, nothing like disheveled about his energy, nothing chaotic about him at all.

Total like as I was telling you before, just like dad energy seemed like a nice, calm guy.

And then you're like, that guy was like drunk trashing his hotel room on.

Speaker 1

He wasn't drunk, Yeah, he was on like math, he was on like yeah serious, Yeah, I think you know maybe, And you know, the scariest part of that, to be real, is like what if that could be anybody?

That could be anybody?

It could be you could have one really awful year and spiral or one awful month in spiral and be totally fine and normal and look back at anybody's anything and say but this, and then you know, I don't know, it doesn't take much.

I don't know.

I'm not trying to blame the girlfriend.

I don't know much about her, but you know, it doesn't seem like he was surrounded by the greatest group, right, Not that anyone else is to blame for his issues, but remember that was the whole thing too.

The hotel people were but they always supplied coke and shit to if you know, if you want it and you're famous, you can get it from the hotel.

Usually it's not unheard of.

Yeah, but yeah, that is really sad, Now, I don't he said that.

Speaker 3

On his Wikipedia page under his death, it says shortly before his death, he told another He told another fan staying at the same hotel that quote, I used to be in a boy band.

Speaker 1

That's why I'm so fucked up.

Well, see, I don't think, oh that's okay, that's not the interesting thing that I was going to say.

But it right, I have a different idea to talk about.

Oh, go for it.

Uh SNL.

So SNL is like all up in the news, and you know how we love SNL.

On this podcast, all these people got fired, right, and so my friend and I were taught well, some people quit, some people got fired.

So my friend and I had this very interesting conversation.

What's the guy's name.

I want to say, it's Devin.

He wasn't used very much.

He's being let go.

And he posted something and my friend and I were like, he was only on it for like two years, and he said, well it was great.

Uh.

He made a joke like, am I being fired?

I don't know.

I guess I'm being fired, you know, I made a joke about it.

And then he said it was a really toxic environment.

But you know, he like, I just feel like if you got SNL and you're on it for like not a very long time, like don't, in my opinion, just wait to trash it, like I don't know why for both my friend and I had just kind of hit us a little bit wrong.

It was like, I know that it's a It obviously is toxic.

People have been talking about it since nineteen seventy seven.

How toxic?

You know that it's a really hard show to do?

Like, what is it that you think is so toxic that you're like you did it?

Like I would just be so happy that I did the show.

Wow, that makes sense.

He can't have his experience, I know.

Go to push it back.

Speaker 3

I'm going to say it because it does sound pretty awful.

Yeah, but I mean the one the openly trans cast member or writer trans.

Speaker 1

Oh yeah, they left.

They they left.

Speaker 3

I'll read you they left.

Yeah, I'll read you the list of people who just Heidi Garner left.

Speaker 1

She she left on her own.

She's amazing and she was there for eight years, which is are you sure?

Okay, here's all the cast members not returning.

So yes, Michael Longfellow, Yeah he needed to go really Yeah, Okay, I mean he was fine.

I didn't hate he wasn't he didn't add anything.

Okay, I'm trying to see if this one said the thing.

No, he didn't say anything bad Pidy Gardner, right, she laughed.

I think you're saying on her own, Devin Walker, that must be what you're talking about.

And he's a friend of my friends and he's lovely, so it's not a reflection on that he's not a great guy.

I just felt like, give it one second, let a breathe for one second before when they fire.

You give it one second before you say how we were a dysfunctional family.

This is what he wrote.

Speaker 3

I'll read you the quote that he put on Instagram.

Me and my baby broke up to me.

Jobs in this industry feel like a bunch of little marriages.

Some of them last for a long time before lucky, but most of them are fleeting, permanent until they're not.

That's the deal.

Speaker 1

You know when it is.

Speaker 3

You know what it is when you sign up.

Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes it was really cool.

Sometimes it was toxic as hell.

But we did what we made the most.

But we did what we made the most of what it was even amidst all the dysfunction, we made a fucked up little family.

More than anything, I'm just really happy.

Speaker 1

I got to do it with.

Speaker 3

Gary and Alex and then n word really went from running a bar show to working together at thirty Rock.

Speaker 1

It's a beautiful thing.

Speaker 3

Also, I looked Cake up in that picture, and I feel like it's important for people to know what I got going on.

Anyway, I'm about to go to Japan.

When I get back, I'm trying to be in a prestige drama, ideally something with Julianne Moore.

Hope y'all stay and hydrated and get in some money today.

Speaker 1

That's really funny.

I like what he said, though, and I'll tell you why.

I like that he's making a joke about being in a prestige drama.

Like I think that might have been a little bit of a Terran.

I'm such an el SNL nerd a little bit of a Tarran.

Kill him, you know, like remember that guy he left SNL and then he was in twelve years a slave.

Oh it cass As like a but I like not but as a dramatic actor.

But he wasn't a great dramatic actor.

So I wonder if there's a little bit of that.

Probably not, though Kristen Wig did dramas a lot of people Bill Hater has tried to do that.

Who I Love Who also recently came out and talked about how fucking toxic because Bill Hayter has talked about this for years.

He did the show for a really long time, obviously, and he he keeps making the rounds on these podcasts and he's like he said, he would physically try to harm himself in the shower, so is not to go, not to have like right, like he really hated it.

He also has severe social anxiety, to the point that he couldn't even go to the fiftieth party or any of the reunion stuff.

He didn't want to be on the show, wasn't even in the audience, chose not to go.

Speaker 3

And let's not forget Darryl Hammond, who they did a whole remember that documentary.

Speaker 1

Were he he's the announcer for the show though, I mean, he's still part of it.

Darryl hammershow yeah, well but just remember, I mean remember that documentary about him.

He was like really fucked up.

Yeah, but there's a lot of fucked up people on the show.

It's that's the type of people.

I mean, comics are fucked up.

Sketch writers and people.

So then you add to that an element of they're not getting sleep.

There's probably too many drugs on set.

I mean we I don't know how many years that we can hear about the same you know which.

I love those stories, like it's like kind of my favorite thing listening to Koch stories from SNL And I don't really know why I don't, but I find it fascinating.

But I just feel like, yeah, that was a lot of a thing.

I think a lot of it was funny, but the we're a fucked up little imagine you're a cast member that stayed on the show and then you got fired in the same day.

They're like, yeah, our fucked up little family, toxic as hell?

Is that totally necessary because you're now you're throwing some people under the bus.

Yeah, name names then you know who Lauren, Who's like, who are you talking about?

Give it a minute, let it breathe for one minute now.

The one I felt sad about was the guy, uh name other people.

There's one other guy, Emil Yeah, yeah, yeah.

He He wasn't great on the show.

He didn't really find his space, but he gave a really lovely I liked his little insta does it have it there?

What he said?

Now, I have to look that one back up.

I can just tell you, okay, I mean I can't my memory.

But he was just he just talked about how sad he felt, like he genuinely felt so sad to be leaving.

He didn't try to you know, he didn't like he was just like fucked up, toxic little family.

You all saw so much, and I'm going to Japan.

He was like, I'm really bum I'm not gonna lie.

I'm heartbroken, but I'm so thankful to Lauren and everybody for you know.

I mean, everyone's going to have whatever they have.

I'm not trying to take away anybody's like story.

Maybe it was really fucked up for him, but yeah, why then let's talk about it then?

Was it racist?

Like like what was the problem?

Speaker 3

I know, it's just so hard though these days to like say, you know, to say the thing like it takes a lot.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

No, that you're absolutely read and you were going to read something really quick before we go about the one of the writers.

You were about to read what one of the writer the trans writer?

Oh well no, I was just going to I was just going to say that people are just horrible.

Speaker 3

Like the openly trans writer, they were the supervising the writing supervisor or whatever.

Celeste yim first openly trans and non binary staff writer.

They announced they were leaving.

They were with the show for five seasons, started in twenty twenty, and they were promoted to writing supervisor.

But anyway, when they mentioned they were like they did the I'm grateful, I always felt honored to be working within the long tradition of queer writing at the show.

Speaker 1

Blah blah blah.

Speaker 3

And then you know, all the comments were just absolutely fucking horrible.

I mean, just never read the comments.

That's what we're learning.

You can't read the comments, right.

Speaker 1

Just that makes me so sad.

But and I'm not saying I just want to say, like I'm not saying people can't have their ats and talk about it.

We have talked about all our shitty, bad things that like some people will go, oh my god, you're so lucky to have this thing and you're talking about it.

So I totally get that.

But I mean the same day, it just seems like, yeah, like, who's your toxic family?

Speaker 3

Well, I have a feeling it's worse than we think, which is what would lead somebody to say that, I guess I think I think it's probably pretty awful.

Well, I know that the non binary writer who just left said that they slept in their office.

Speaker 1

Oh, I've heard those kind of stories.

Yeah, there's that was kind of the thing.

I mean, there's so many fun stories about that too.

You don't need us for that, you have Dana Carvey and David Spade.

But if you're there for five one thing, yeah, Well, the thing about when I was on the flight.

I was on a flight with next to Kyle Mooney and we had to spend a lot of time together because we got stranded due to our hurricane.

And he was so deeply unpleasant and I couldn't like, I couldn't have met.

We were going to the same fucking wedding, so we had a tie, you know what I mean.

It was like, hey, oh, you're on your way to the Yeah, me too.

And it's not that he would have to talk to me or whatever, but he just was one of those guys like real in cell vibes.

And then finally I said to my friend, I'm like, what the fuck is up?

He's like, he's so stressed about work because he'd taken the weekend off and he was SNL at the time, and he was just he seemed miserable.

So I kind of want to meet him again because I always thought he was really funny and I want to meet him again, like not on SNL and see if you'd just be a different, totally different person.

Well do you want to me?

Yeah, if you could.

I mean, I don't know why you hold that, you're so withholding.

Speaker 3

Uh.

Speaker 1

Okay, let's say hi to our people.

I never even got to any of my stories, but we'll save Oh I thought you did.

Oh no, you got to your deep thrombosis.

I yeah, but I had already told that I have a sex club story.

It's outrageous.

Speaker 1

I can't say the name Jacclin, Karen Johnson, Reaction, Dick Frolicker, Aldria Crawford, Victoria Blake, Julie Trumbull.

It's hard to do it upside down.

I'm having a hard time.

Speaker 3

Try Rice, call it rock see I'm not scared to say sa Degree.
