Episode Transcript
Hi friends.
Welcome to Novel Hour or weekly live show at 12 noon Eastern Time.
And listen, if you are an aspiring author or just a reader who cares about what's happening in the industry, you need to hear what is happening right now because the industry is flipping upside down.
Traditional publishers are literally begging indie authors to sign with them and give them the book deals.
And that in itself is wild because once upon a time, it used to be so taboo to be self published.
And then go traditional.
So we saw a post on TikTok, so there's a TikTok, there's a link in the videos description.
Their username is Jessica Dawn who was talking about an article they saw on Substack by Kelly Lbeck.
So this is Kelly Lbeck Substack.
So just head on over to the links in the video's description so you can read more.
But it's really interrogating just how much publishing has changed and how it's going to affect us as readers.
I mean, Fran, when you saw this, like what was the first thing that came to your mind?
But also let us know in the comments if you are seeing the changes in publishing as it relates to indie, to trad, and then some people just not getting rad deals anymore.
Speaker 2Yeah, I think the biggest thing is, it's actually something that I have been seeing for the past year.
I mean, there was always some acquisition of indie titles for, you know, traditional publishers, but I think in the past years, they've really, really been heavy on it.
To the point that right now it's almost like every other book that they're publishing.
Started off in some way, shape, or form as an indie book first, and I have noticed this for a while.
It was kind of fun when I saw the video and then reading the article, it's like com, almost like seeing everything that we're feeling ratified, that that is the shift that's happening with publishers.
And I think a lot of that is the fact that they don't want to risk.
Their money, right?
It does cost money to put behind publishing something.
And uh, uh, their original model was that they get, you know, the, the queries come in and they have to make a determination whether they think that this is something that's going to blow up or not going to blow up.
I think a lot of what they put their money behind sometimes doesn't.
Not gonna judge, but you know, they've been making the wrong acquisitions in my opinion.
And I think that they just felt that this other formula, it's like, try true, proven.
You already have the track, the the record, and you're gonna get the sales.
So it's, it's a cop out in a way.
It's easy for them.
I get it from a business point of view, but I definitely think that it's shaking up how the industry has to work.
I feel for authors that they wanted to go the traditional route.
I think those days are kind of over, in my opinion.
SpeakerI actually think those days are over as well.
And again, a link to the full article that Jessica Dawn was commenting on, on, uh, TikTok, it's available on Substack link and video description, but also in the article, they kind of go on to cite different examples because we've had, we've seen successes with different authors, you know, from the li's.
Sages to the BK Boriss, um, and just so many different authors, um, Elsie Silver, you know, the Cali Heart trajectory.
Just all these different authors who've put in the work, in my opinion.
And yes, now they're reaping the rewards.
Now, I do wanna mention the author does, the author of the Substack does say they're not pitting anyone against each other.
It's just seeing the direction of publishing and that now there's a whole new imprint.
That has been announced and has, you know, is launching.
And the first five books from that imprint were all previously self-published.
Yep.
Not one was like, you know, someone pitching, going through the agent, agent selling it, the traditional model.
So I think publishers do want the, the, the sure bet.
Like you were saying, Francesca, I also noted that.
Kelly, the author on Substack noted that, uh, someone else saying publishing has a gambling problem.
And I, and I found that so interesting to, you know, someone going down that rabbit hole.
But personally, I think now, if you are watching and you are an author or you have an author friend, I am going to go on a limb and let me know what you think in a comments or if I'm wrong.
You know, whether you're watching live or you're watching a replay.
I actually think you should self-publish first.
I really do.
I know it's a lot of work because trust me, it looks easy, but it's a lot of work.
Lot of work.
But I would take that route if I were an author, which I am not.
So, you know, I'm just saying my opinion.
What do you think, Fran?
Speaker 2Yeah, I think 100%.
That's the route I would tell people to go because not only are publishers ex wanting like the Sure bed, but also even the ones that are getting pitched going the traditional route, and maybe you do end up with a deal.
A lot of times the requirements now also include that you have to have a sizable social media following like upwards in the 50,000 before they're even going to consider the query.
So all in all, you're gonna have to put in all this work.
So if you're gonna do the work of building that social media audience, you might as well be getting the money from the sales that you could be getting as a self-published author by having that kind of audience and then.
You know, if you want to go the traditional route, you go the traditional route.
I think at that point it would open up a lot of opportunities anyway, because you are gonna have to learn to wear all these hats anyway no matter what you're doing.
So I think that definitely things are changing.
Also, I will say for people that don't want to, or they feel.
It's difficult to go that route, in my opinion.
Even if you were to go the traditional route, if you are not wearing those same hats and doing all that same work, it's gonna flop anyway because publishers are very well known for putting very little money behind promoting your books.
So I think that you would have to do that yourself anyway, so at the end of the day, you're gonna do the work and they're gonna get a bigger percentage anyway, so you might as well get the money from the self-publishing.
SpeakerYep.
Yep.
Absolutely.
Let us know in the comments.
Do you think self-publishing is a vanity project?
Because that's what people used to say in the past.
Self-publishing is a vanity, or is traditional publishing now being a va, you know, is now the vanity project because there's so many authors who are doing well.
Self-publishing.
Yeah, like they are selling books.
They are doing quite well.
Let us know your thoughts and the comments, but also let us know.
Let's pretend we are authors for a minute.
Would you hold out for the traditional deal or would you self-publish and then promote like crazy on social media?
Um, let us know what route you would take.
Uh, but in the meantime, let us shout out the folks that are joining us in the comments.
Um, Hey Aaron, I haven't seen you in a while.
Where have you been?
Has the office been, you know, keeping you locked up back there, you know, you can't tune in during lunchtime.
Um, also shouting out.
Tiff, TIFF, hey, you we're switching up the show.
You guys we're starting with the news and a drama up top.
I know y'all must be wondering what is going on.
We're trying something new and we hope you'll stick around and, um, let us know your thoughts on the new show format as well.
And speaking of all the drama.
We are jumping into new book drama, so we have some new book releases for this week that we are really excited to share with you.
And again, books for this week.
I don't remember the date because I can never remember to get my dates right.
Unlocking my phone as we speak for the week of October 12th to 18.
So first up I wanna share with you is the Menu of Happiness.
It's the Kama Gawa Food Detective series.
I've read the first two books in this series, so there are two previous books in there.
I really enjoy them.
I also read an early copy of this one.
It is a fun time.
It is just very light and escapist.
If you love Japanese, um, cozy mysteries, this is for, you also want to share another cozy mystery this time by a romance author.
So it's, and then there was the one.
And then there was the one, this is by Martha Waters.
You might recognize Martha Waters from the Regency Vows series.
I haven't read all the books in that one.
I read, I think the first three.
It was a good historical romance.
Now this one is.
Still giving historical romance vibes, but with a murder mystery in there as well.
We also have a new Steven Rowley book.
Haven't read this one, have no clue.
Um, but it looks interesting.
I do like a Steven Rowley.
Um, I'm known to expect heartwarming stories from this author, so that's exciting.
Also out is the Keeper of Magical Things by Julie Leon.
Now this is a cozy, what do you call this cozy romantic scene.
Let me say that the author had a previous book out last year, the Teller of Small Fortunes.
That one I read and loved.
Haven't read this one yet, but I'm looking forward to it.
And then the last one now is the Last Witches, and this is by CJ Cook.
This is historical horror, and there's this woman who is accused of being a witch.
She must use her voice and just everything to fight for her life and kind of try to spread the truth.
I read this one, this author also wrote the previous book, um, the Book of Witching.
So, um, clearly, you know, we're seeing a trend.
So we have The Lost Witch, the Wait the Last Witch, and last year was the Book of Witching.
So, um, very exciting, but lemme know in the comments.
All right, let me know which ones you are interested in.
So.
We have number one, the Kama Goa food detectives, which again, cozy mystery, Japanese vibes, historical murder, mystery with romance.
And then there was the one, so this is book two.
Three, the Dogs of Venice, uh, by Steven Rowley.
Steven Rowley.
Super popular.
A cozy romantic.
Is Book four The Keeper of Magical Things, or The Last Witch by CJ Cook.
Um, this one is kind of the, the horror ish vibe, which he vibes.
Which one are you excited about, Fran?
Speaker 2Definitely the CJ Cook the most.
'cause I think that it's, it's all right up my alley with the witches, but also I see, I think CJ Cook's books are interesting,
Speakerso, okay.
Let us know in the comments.
Ooh, Erin said, I've read the Kama Goa and it was so good.
Yes.
Listen, it's a fun, it's cozy.
I, I just love a Japanese, um, I love a Japanese mystery.
Cozy mystery.
Feel good and just, yeah, great stories.
Erin also says, I'm a sucker for an animal book, so I'll go with Venetian dogs, but they all sound good.
So the Venetian dogs is a Steven Rowley one?
Yes, but we have more new releases.
Okay.
We have more new releases as well.
Oh, Erin says she loves the CJ Cook one too.
Erin loves all writing them all.
Erin loves all the books, but Fran has more books so we have even more new releases.
So what do we have?
Speaker 2So the first one for me is an audiobook only release.
It's, I'm gonna get you back by Elena Adam.
So this is actually really short.
I listened to this one.
I really liked it.
It's the classic brothers best friend story, but our heroine is an author and she goes off to a writing convention and in Vermont, she ends up Snowden over there.
The hero was going over there because they had a bit of a.
A problem.
So they were not talking to each other and she has a stalker.
It's not a stalker romance 'cause he's not the stalker, but she has a stalker.
So it's a little bit of that suspense element, but I mean, who doesn't want to be reading about a Vermont Snowden romance?
And also the hero is like a baker with tattoos.
So.
I enjoyed this one, so I definitely recommend, and also it's like a quick, fun audiobook to listen to.
The next one is A Scar in the Bone by Sophie Jordan.
Now this is book two in Fire, in the Sky Series.
It's fantasy romance.
Kind of like if you like dragons, but also you like the type of dragons like, um, oh God, what was that show?
Game of Thrones type Dragons more than like fourth wing type dragons.
So.
I enjoyed the first book more than this one, but it's still a good read.
It's still a good time, so I still recommend.
And the next one, it's actually a Regency Romance.
It's Sense and Suitability by Pepper Basham.
This is a sweet.
No sex.
Just kissing Regency Romance.
It was so cute.
It's a second chance Romance.
I really did like it.
Really lovable characters.
If you want something that's just gonna put a smile on your face and it's just gonna be like a sweet, good time.
This is definitely the book for you.
Um, the next book is, uh, I haven't read it.
It's on my list.
It just came out today.
It's Scrooge for the holidays.
By Kayla Gross.
I really love Kayla Gross.
And this one is basically Christmas Carol.
It is a paranormal romance.
And our heroine goes to this small town like she's very successful and she goes to this small town.
Ends up meeting three Nephilim.
And of course they, um, they're for her kind of like a scrooge situation.
So I am so interested to pick this one up very soon, like I said, just came out.
It's available on Kindle Limited.
It will be getting red, ASAP.
Um, and the last one that I have is poisoned Ivy by Ava Ronnie.
And this is a new adult.
College Romance.
Um, what I really like about this one is obviously interracial, uh, relationship between the characters and the fact that our heroine, she kind of has like this double life that she leads as a lot of like children of immigrants.
She has to portray this one persona at home and then a completely different persona when she's in college.
But, uh, she ends up needing to get like this.
Paper published and all this, and she has to do some research for it.
And that part of that research is to get into some of the secret society things in the college.
And when she tries to get into one of the events, runs into the hero and kind of like finds her out and he's gonna throw her out, but they make a pact 'cause he also needs to get some stuff done too.
A piece, his father, so they end up working together.
He gets her in so that she does her research and they're gonna publish this paper together.
I am really interested in this one.
It does have the campus novel vibe, the secret society thing, so it's definitely like a perfect fall college campus romance.
So I'm excited for this one.
SpeakerI think I'm excited for this one too, but you'll let us know in the comments which one you are excited about.
Again, we have this one right here, so this is book one.
We have book two because Restream won't let me be.
Great.
We have book two, then we have number three.
I'm actually interested in this one just because it's a re, it's retelling, right?
Sense and suitability.
The title alone is giving me re
Speaker 2Very, yes, very often.
SpeakerThen we have four.
I like the titles.
Scrooged for the holidays, number four.
And then number five, the poisoned iv.
Again.
That one sounds really good.
We got some good releases this week.
Yeah, let us know in the comments which ones you are excited to read.
Um, let me take a look at the chat.
Erin did say, yeah, the CJ Cook.
I saw that one earlier.
Ooh.
Tiff was saying anything with witches is an a plus for me editor and says, yeah, we've gotta catch him on listen.
I like Pokemon.
They're like Pokemon.
Even when
Speaker 2you don't get to read them right away, you just catch them.
SpeakerYes, yes.
But let us know in the comments, replay crew, we'd love to hear from you as well.
Let us know what books you're adding to the TBR.
Are these a read?
Are them a pass?
You know?
Um, let us know.
Erin says, I like the expression of the heroine on the cover of screw for the holiday.
Yeah, the title, the cover, it sounds, I'm like, yes.
Yes,
Speaker 2yes, yes.
SpeakerYou said it's on Kindle Unlimited, right?
It's
Speaker 2on Kindle Unlimited.
Yeah.
And like, one thing I will say for all of Kayla Ross's books that I've read, it's, they're so quick to read.
Like you just fly through them.
'cause they're just really, really fun to read.
So
Speakercheck out, check them out, check 'em out, let us know.
Um, but yeah, let us know your thoughts in the comments.
Again, for our regulars around here, we're doing things a little different today.
We started with the news at the top.
Then we got into the new releases, which we just wrapped.
Now we're gonna get into what we're currently reading, like we actually wanna talk to you all about what we're reading instead of always like doing themed recommendations and then the new books, and looking ahead.
I'm gonna start first.
Um, I actually read this one on my Kindle.
I wanted to download the cover so y'all could see.
Don't come for me.
Okay.
The book that has been Living Rent Free in my head is a Moby Dick retelling called Call Me Ishmael.
However, it's not a dude, it's a woman.
Okay, it's a woman at the center.
It has been living rent free.
It's coming out in January, as some of you might know if you've been around for a while.
But if you are new, I read books ahead of time so I can curate the seasonal reading guide.
So every time you hear me talking about seasonal reading guide, it's books I've read and I'm reading for the winter.
And this is a 2026 new release.
It is actually coming out of us.
Small press so it's not one of the big five publishers.
It is so good.
I love it.
It's an English woman.
She, she left England.
She went to Nantucket.
She's pretending to be a man.
She goes on board.
Listen, Moby Dick is heavy.
All right.
It has like a lot of detail.
You probably don't need to learn about wailing.
It's like a whole wailing education.
This isn't that.
This one is.
It, it focuses more on the journey and the interactions.
Okay.
But I'm telling you, it is so good.
It's so well written.
This is for the retelling and the indie people, um, the, the literary people, uh, retelling people, literary people, and yeah.
Retelling folks.
Tiff says the cover is taking her out.
Okay.
I get it.
I get it.
Listen, the cover is a whole other thing, but it has been living rent free in my brain.
I actually enjoyed Mob Dick.
Okay.
I know it's, I know it's work for people, but I actually enjoyed it and this is better.
This is like a better upgrade.
Um, I'm also reading Agatha Christie.
I have my, um, miss Marple books.
I'm doing a Miss Marple reread, so I'm reading the last four.
The last one I haven't read.
Reread is the mirror that cracked from side to side, so that, that's next up on my actual reading list.
Um, but I recapped the first four.
It's on my YouTube channel and I'll be recapping the next four.
I've just really been focusing on mystery devices and just like the red herrings and the twist and just how she's doing things differently.
Um, that's the main focus.
Things I might have missed.
How she uses the things to advance the story because I just enjoy it even though I know how it ends.
You know what I mean?
I just, I, yeah, I'm rereading it through that lens, but yeah, that's what I've been reading.
What have you been reading?
So I'm gonna talk to
Speaker 2you about the one that I just started.
So I cannot tell you if I'm like loving it yet.
I will update you next week, but it's branded by Saffron a Kent.
Now this one I think comes out at towards the end of the month, or maybe it's next week.
I dunno.
Uh, but what's fun about this one, it's a dark romance with cowboys and also like it has a bit of, um, epistolary romance in there because our heroin.
And Sep starts writing letters to this man who's in jail, and that's how the relationship starts developing between them.
But he comes outta jail Now, she was doing all of this under like a fake name, fake identity.
So like there would be no way for him to find her, but of course, you know, he gets outta jail and he finds her.
As you would.
So, uh, it's very, uh, it's something new.
I haven't read something like that.
I have read where, you know, there's like the, the pen pal and thing starting with jail and stuff, but I haven't read like this scenario.
And also like I'm interested to see like that dark romance element with the cowboy romance element.
So I am definitely excited to continue on with this one for sure.
SpeakerI don't think I'm gonna be reading that, but I'm like, okay,
Speaker 2it's a particular taste.
SpeakerSure it's particular, but what's on your TBR?
Speaker 2So on my TBR first up on my TBR is the Poisoner by IV Ophelia.
So when I did my, uh, fall curriculum, I wanted to explore, one of the characters that I wanted to like learn more about, which I have been reading up on, is Julia Pana, which is all about, you know.
This woman that was helping women get rid of their abusive husbands by creating a poison.
And they would just, you know, nothing would happen to them.
'cause nobody would know that they were poison and that's how they died.
So that's kind of the vibe here in this book.
Our heroin is a botanist and a poisoner.
Um, and that's what she's doing.
She gets rid of horrible men.
And so one man that she was supposed to get rid of turns up back at her shop a week after, and she realizes that there, you know.
Not human, so that's why it didn't work.
So I'm really excited for this one.
So, um, I can't wait.
Like I've seen so many people like really, really, uh, saying amazing things.
I think this might be Ivy Ophelia's first book.
Okay.
Could be.
And there is another book, I don't think, in this series.
I don't think they're related, but there is another book by the author that's coming out in January.
So I have a feeling this is gonna be an author that I.
Probably really enjoy, but definitely the poisoner thing, like it, it's going perfectly with my full curriculum theme.
So I am there now that I will read
Speakerthat.
I will read a hundred percent that I will read.
Yeah.
Oh my God, it sounds good.
Speaker 2Yeah, for sure.
And then the only other thing, more light, 'cause I, I went really dark with my books today.
Uh, I do have thrown for a Loop by Serena Bowen.
Okay.
Up next as well on audio, which I mean.
Hockey figure skating.
So I haven't read a Serena Bowen in a while, so I'm excited for that.
SpeakerOkay, awesome.
Let's check in with folks in the chat.
Okay.
See Erin now.
Praise.
Praise Jesus.
Listen.
We see each other.
Okay.
Erin says, I was surprised by how much I loved Moby Dick.
I have a PhD in English.
Yes, I remember.
And had to take several American Lit classes, which I typically despise, but I really enjoyed that one.
People were always cussing and a fussing about Moby Dick.
I remember sharing about it on Instagram like years ago.
I'm actually gonna see if I can dig up that post because it was like years ago.
I would say maybe.
2016 ish.
I'm gonna find it, but oh my gosh, people were roasting me over Moby Dick.
And if you're just joining us and you're like, why are these people talking about Moby Dick?
I was talking about this new retelling that has been living in my head.
Rent free call.
Call me Ishmael.
However, it's from a woman's point of view, so it's not a dude joining a whaling ship.
It's a woman who is disguised herself as a man and she's joined the, the whaling ship.
And you see the dynamics of all the other folks on there.
She follows the source material, okay?
It, it, it follows the source material minus all the details.
Um, but yeah, it's, it's living around free in my head.
I mean, who knows, it might make a future in the Winter Reading Guide 2026 Winter reading guide.
So we'll, um, we'll see about that.
Tiff is saying, oh yes, definitely reading the branded one.
Totally.
See, not my reading vibes, but it's Tiff's reading vibes.
Let me get that cover up for the peoples.
Okay.
Is it on Kindle too?
Speaker 2I believe it's gonna be on Kindle Limited.
I'm not sure 'cause it's not out yet.
Okay.
I got.
I think so.
SpeakerOkay.
Speaker 2A lot of, a lot of, um, saffron, Ken's books are, but I think this one is through a publisher, so I'm not sure.
Or maybe it's one that got picked up.
I dunno.
Okay.
I don't think it's gonna be on Kindle Unlimited just by looking at the price.
SpeakerYeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2It's a library.
SpeakerOkay.
Erin says, minus the entire chapter on, listen, you get a whole wailing anatomy.
We don't need all of that.
No.
The different kinds of whales.
The, the, the, the wailing ship.
It's very heavy on the detail, but again, I don't mind.
I just, okay.
Okay.
Yes, and we just keep it pushing.
But those are the books that are on our reading lists.
Okay.
Tbrs, but also books that we are reading that we're thinking about.
Um, we'd love to hear what you are thinking about what you are reading as well.
Let us know in the comments the books that you are currently reading.
The books that you are planning to add to A TBR, if there's just Yeah.
Anything out there, um, let us know as well.
If you're reading any comfort books, let us know because this, and life has been laughing, so sometimes you have to go down that rabbit hole.
I think that's where Aga Christie comes in for me because I am so sure about where the books are going.
And Miss Marle is comfort
Speaker 2You run.
This is gonna be, this is gonna be my comfort.
Um, 'cause it's not something I have tried, but it's Cozy Omega verse.
Oh, that's gonna be my cozy try.
So the first one is a pack for autumn.
Mm-hmm.
And the next one is a pack for winter.
So omega verse, maybe white choose.
I'm not sure.
So we shall see it.
These are by, um, this is Amelia.
Ierson and this is IA Lee, so, okay.
I'm excited for these, so definitely that's gonna be comfort.
SpeakerWe need some comfort on, or tbrs, I truly believe this.
Okay.
The way the world is going right now and life is life and, mm-hmm.
We, we, we need emergency stss.
That, that's what I call it.
These are like the emergency books, you know, you know what you get when you're going in.
Um, yeah.
So yeah, so there's that.
But share your recommendations in the comments.
We'd love to hear from you, even if you are part of the replay crew.
Alright, now we're getting into our last segment.
We're getting into the, what we're watching.
So we just wrapped up what we're reading.
Now we're getting into the, what we're watching.
And listen, last week we told you.
Both of us, we were going to watch the women in Cabin 10.
I even went and did a video on YouTube talking about the differences between the book and the movie, and just my thoughts and feelings.
Lemme tell you all something.
Speaker 2It's like I, you
Speakertalk for the peoples because.
Speaker 2Do not go watch this.
It is, it is better to just have the image of the book in your head and leave it there.
That is all I'm gonna say.
Lord, I was disappointed.
SpeakerListen, the book, all right, background, because I, I remember talking about this last week.
The book came out in 2016 and the book was everywhere, like everywhere.
It's coming up on 10 years.
Obviously next summer is 10 years, but the book was just everywhere.
It was really good.
Psychological, you know, suspense, thrillery, other things, I think.
This book does psychological so well.
Mm-hmm.
It can be a challenge when you're gonna do something so psychologically.
Well done on screen, right on screen.
It did not deliver for me.
It really did not deliver for me in my mind.
I don't even wanna say it's beautiful.
I think, what's her name?
Kiara Knightly.
Yes.
Did an amazing job.
Yes.
I think she was a great main character.
So let's focus on a positive.
She was a great main character.
The way they shot it was very gray, so it's very gray, dark.
Yeah.
We have no suspects in the beginning.
People.
So if you read the book, you know, earlier on we are like, you know.
We have zero suspects.
We have to push ourselves through the second half before the wheels start turning.
And we're like, is it you?
Is it you?
Is it it just, hmm.
And they made her like this very put together kind of persona.
And then it degraded as it went on.
Like we're like, what is wrong with you kind of thing.
There are better gaslighting movies out there.
Put it that way.
Let's just put it that way.
The ending though Ruth Ware said the ending change, because I found this online and I talked about it in the YouTube, but we are talking about it here together.
She said she liked the ending and I said, well, you know what, if you like it, I love it.
Um, you are the author, it's your creation.
But she likes the ending and I will say.
I agree with Ruth Ware on the ending, just because you need that visual ending for a movie instead of you ought to sorting things out behind the scenes.
Right.
I think the change in the beginning and the change in the end, but there was nothing in the middle keeping me watching, like
Speaker 2mm-hmm.
SpeakerI was forcing myself because I said, I'm gonna do a video on this.
I told the peoples, I'm gonna do a video on this.
I know, okay, I have to watch.
Speaker 2It was, it was hard to get through it.
It was, it was boring.
So here's the thing, what I really loved about the the book is that it presents you with all these scenarios of who could be the, the one, and like you are literally going through all these possibilities and in the movie.
We went through not, I mean so fast from zero to, okay, maybe there's two.
But even when those were proposed, it was so like blah, like it was nothing to it.
And then we are like immediately into, okay, this, this, the one.
Mm-hmm.
And it was, there was just no, um, what I love about these kind of things is all of that guessing.
Aspect, and you didn't have none of that here at all.
It was more of the, sure, there's the danger of is she gonna make it out alive from the situation, but that is it.
That was the extent of what's gonna keep you, you know, keep you wondering anything and that was not enough to keep me interested.
Um.
Yeah, I mean she spent even quite a bit of time just in the hole over there.
Like there were scenes that could have been cut so that there was room for more interesting things, is what I think.
I dunno.
It was just boring.
SpeakerListen, this is a movie set on a book and this and this ship, this beautiful, beautiful note, by the way.
Um, the
Speaker 2scenery was top tier.
SpeakerYes.
I think it, it, it was shot off.
Geez.
Now I forgot where it was.
Shot off the coast of England somewhere.
I forgot where.
Beautiful.
Okay.
Beautiful.
But, but this ran aground, like it was horrible.
Okay.
And
Speaker 2again, Karen Knightley was stellar.
If there was one thing that probably kept me watching was her.
Yeah.
SpeakerYeah.
Hundred percent.
A hundred percent.
Let us know.
If you read the Woman in Cabin 10, let us know in the comments.
Did you read the book?
Did you get sucked into the hype in 2016?
I was.
Okay.

Um, so if you read the book, just stay with the book.
Stay book is really good.

Um, we were talking about reading for comfort and, you know, having an emergency stash of books because life is laughing and honestly, we're going in a holiday season right now, so you might need that emergency stash sooner than later.
Erin says, I've been reading a cozy series of light novels called Dahlia in Bloom.
Oh.
About a woman reborn in a fantasy world who makes magical tools like lanter lanterns and shoe warmers.
Oh, okay.
She also goes on to say, very low stakes and slow paced, but comforting and full of kind people, which is great in know.
Well, listen, this sounds good.
Let me.
Mm-hmm.
I, I need to write this down before I get off of here, folks.
It's Dalia in Bloom.
I need to add that to the reading list right now.
We definitely need comfort folks.
Yeah, you know, take it where you can get it.
Sometimes it's the literature.
Hopefully it's listening to us.
