Thousands of flights are being canceled across the United States starting today as the FAA makes cuts at forty busy airports.

Tammy Treheo with more.

Speaker 3

Four percent of flights will be cut today and that percentage will increase every day until it hits ten percent next week.

This comes as air traffic controllers continue to call in sick while not getting paid during the shutdown.

The Secretary of Transportation says he's putting safety first as the longest federal government shutdown in history continues.

It's now in day thirty eight.

Several people fell ill after opening a suspicious package at Joint Base Andrew's in Maryland.

The package reportedly contained a white powder and political propaganda, prompting a temporary lockdown and evacuation of two buildings.

Those affected were treated at a base medical center and released in staple condition while an investigation continues.

Joint Base Andrews is the home base of Air Force one.

A federal judge is ordering the Trump administration to pay full November snap benefits by Friday.

The judge in Rhode Island said during Thursdays hearing that people have gone without for too long.

Vice President Vance had this reaction Thursday.

It's an absurd ruling because you have a federal judge effectively telling us what we have to do in the midst of a Democrat government shutdown, which what we'd like to do is for the Democrats to open up the government.

Of course, then we can fund SNAP, and we can also do a lot of other good things for the American people.

The Trump administration had planned to partially fund the food SNAP program for forty two million Americans.

Kentucky has launched an emergency relief fund for families affected by the ups plane crash in Louisville.

Thirteen people, including three crew members, died when the cargo plane exploded it takeoff Tuesday, and several remain missing.

Governor Bisher says donations to help cover funeral expenses can be made through the official Team Kentucky website.

Starbucks dropped a thirty dollars barrista cold cup yesterday and if you wanted one year out of luck more from pre tennis.

Starbucks says the glass Barrista cup was in limited supply with high demand before hitting stores yesterday morning.

It's sold out coast to coast within minutes.

The cup looks like a small bear wearing a winter cap in signature Starbucks Green.

The coffee company says there's something magical about the moment the holiday cups arrive each year.

That is, if you got one.

If you missed out, you can find them on the secondary market for about four hundred bucks.

Two members of the world famous Wallenda family will try for another record.

Nick Wallnda and sister Leanna will be in Sarasota, Florida this weekend to attempt the highest and longest criss cross tight rope walk ever.

Even just attempting the walk will be a major accomplishment for Leanna, who almost died eight years ago when she fell about thirty five feet during practice.

She talked about the mishap in a twenty seventeen interview with NBC's Today Show.
