Ashy Bines Hates 'Gossip' Podcasts
Episode Transcript
Hello, and welcome to Outspoken.
It's your dose of the hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week.
I'm Kate Torbah and coming up on today's show as she binds questions the integrity of a female led podcast.
Nikki Wescott takes Black Friday marketing to the next level, Indy Clinton's corrective No Surgery, and Martha Califatitis launches a kid's clothing line the first.
Olivia Rodgers has given an insight into the baby names she likes.
Last week, she announced she was pregnant, and she's already teasing her followers with baby names.
Speaker 2I'm loving it, to be honest.
Speaker 1I was not surprised by the tone of these names at all.
They are very classic, traditional I want to say posti.
That's our word for posh posti names.
So, for boys, she said she likes Freddie, Rupert, Oliver and Oscar love them, whilst for girls she said Minnie, Sadie, Birdie, and Florence.
I am surprised that the name Charlotte is not amongst those names.
Perhaps that is because she wants to save that as a name.
Yeah, because these are names that she can't use.
Speaker 2But loves.
Speaker 1When I saw Sadie, I was like, oh, okay, so she can't use that one because her friend Michelle Andrews has used that name for her daughter.
Speaker 3Yeah.
Speaker 1Michelle Andrews is, of course the host of the Shameless podcast.
Another name I was surprised that wasn't on the list, which could be another name she may used, is Alfie.
I feel like that's really popular at the moment, and I like Alfie.
So Olivia's partner, Hugo, his last name is Breaky, So we're also going to think of what might sound good with that last name.
Speaker 2I mean Rogers.
Speaker 1I have to say Rogers is an easier name for these names to sound good with.
Well, it could be Rogers Breaky.
I mean they're not actually married.
Speaker 2Very true.
Speaker 1I mean Rupert Rogers quite a good ring to it.
I'm not a fan of the double R.
I think that's sort of a bit of a tongue tie.
She think it's a bit of a cartoon character energy, Yeah, I do.
Charlotte Rogers Charlotte Breaky.
I think actually, I think if she's judging by the names here of Minnie, Sadie, Bertie, I reckon it wouldn't be Charlotte, but it be lost Lottie, yes or Hattie on her Hang on, that's her sister's name.
That's why I'm getting confused.
Well, Laura Henshaw, who is also one of Olivia's friends, is set to give birth in a couple of weeks.
So she's thirty seven weeks pregnant.
We've just seen online that she's packing her hospital bag now.
But because she's having an elective c section, I'm guessing that she'll give birth a thirty nine weeks so in two weeks time.
I wonder what she's going to call her son, and whether she steals one of Olivia's names.
That's the tricky part when you have friends at all giving birth, because people generally don't want to share the name they've selected.
I mean, I was pretty open.
I was just telling everyone it is a good way of dibsying the name though, yeah, putting your authority over it.
Yeah.
We did have a situation with one of our friends where her and Amy were giving birth weeks apart, and our friends like, oh, Amy, I'll just share the first letter with you, and it ended up being an ah like Harry, and they're like, oh, what about the second letter?
Ended up being an A and they're like, what about the last letter?
Speaker 2And it was a why.
Speaker 1Fortunately, it turns out the babies are called Harry and Harvey, so there was no need to cross the name off the list.
But it was a very tense moment.
Got to love all the Harvey's out there due to Harvey spector from Sue.
It's such a cute name.
I love it.
Speaker 3They don't even have the full facts.
They're gossing about my businesses when I go away.
Speaker 1As she Binds, has questioned the integrity of an Australian female led pop culture podcast after she discovered the show had reported on her online behavior.
The og fitness influencer accused the podcast of making money from gossiping about other people's lives, Kate.
Speaker 2Can you tell us more?
Speaker 3Well?
Speaker 1Funnily enough, the podcast in question is the one listeners are tuning into right now.
So ash has taken a listen to Outspoken and isn't happy about the coverage.
Now.
While she didn't name Outspoken, it's clear that that's who she was referring to, so much so that a lovely listener shared Ashy's comments in our.
Speaker 2Facebook community now.
Speaker 1As she made the comments, on her own podcast called She Rises, in an episode entitled Ashy Versus the Internet The Things people actually send Me.
She then cut up a grab from her episode to promo on social media.
Let's take a listen to some of what she said.
Speaker 3Okay, so recently I got sent a podcast.
It's a gossip podcast, which I fucking hate listen to these things because you know, a lot of the time and I have listened to a couple of light that I've been sent.
They don't even have the full facts.
They're gosping about my businesses when I go away so many things, and I'm like, that's not actually the truth, Like they just spin that from or you're missing out so many parts of the story just to make it sound worse.
Absolutely, I really struggle to understand.
Well, from a business perspective, I get why they do it, yeah, but from like an integrity point view, I'm like, you're literally making money off gossiping off people's lives and not even having all the truth facts, but you're spinning things to make things sound bad and to put the woman down so people click your content.
Speaker 2Now.
Speaker 1Instead of discussing the topic at hand, though, she focused on the brief discussion that we had at the start of the segment, which is where we address the backlash that Ash had been receiving about going on a kid free holiday.
Speaker 2Let's take a listen to what As she said.
Speaker 3The first thing that they were talking about was how I'm always going away and poor Steve stuck at home.
Speaker 2With the kids.
Speaker 4Poor Steve.
Speaker 3I was like, wow, that's so interesting.
And one of the hosts does have children, and I'm guessing the other one doesn't.
But I was like, Steve goes away too, because they were saying, oh, poor Steve, like never gets to go away.
I'm like, he goes through all the time.
I just don't talk about it because I don't feel safe people knowing that I'm not at home with a man.
Yeah, I feel unsafe without him in the house now.
Speaker 1As she went on to say that Steve had recently been on a trip for America for ten days and had just gotten back from a holiday to Thailand for another ten days, and that he goes on little work trips here and there.
She went on also that he's a very private person and he doesn't ever want to appear on camera, sort of alluding to that's why she hasn't also touched on these trips that he goes on.
What actually said really got me railed up because I am all for people sharing their opinions on podcasts, and obviously we have spoken about Ash's action, so she is well within her rights to talk about ours, but not one is factually incorrect because, as you touched on at the start of the segment in question, we briefly spoke about how her followers had criticized her and her husband for going on a kid free holiday.
Ironically, though, we defended her decision.
So basically how the segment went down was we gave a little bit of a background into the story, that being that Ash had defended herself on three occasions for holidaying without her children.
Speaker 2We then shared our opinion.
Speaker 1Let's take a listen, Amy, how do you feel about Ash leaving her kids at home?
Well, they do have a father that is looking after them in those examples that you provided, so I see nothing wrong with her actually going and having a holiday with her friends.
I mean, mums do need a break as well.
Is actually quite ironic because as she said, oh, I think one of the hosts has a child, but the other one doesn't.
Factually, if we're talking about facts, you guys both have kids, and you both brought that point of view about your own experience with your children forward.
Yeah.
I mean, I did say during the discussion that I understood the criticism more this time around because both her and Steve were on a holiday away from their children.
But ultimately I thought the backlash was unfair.
And then the discussion turned more personal, and we used Ash's situation as a bit of a hook to discuss or would you go on a holiday without your kids?
And at the time Amy said yes and I said no, But that was all personal preference, and I wrapped up saying I was pleased that Steve got the call up for the euro trip after Ash documented so many holidays of hers away.
I mean, I think people are entitled to have a bit of a debate about child free holidays or not and share their differing opinions.
I don't necessarily think there was anything wrong with that.
I also really want to talk about Ash's comments regarding our integrity, so as a refresher, she accused us of not having any and making money off gossiping about people's lives without having the true facts, and this is something I've noticed lately, there is an increase in Outspoken getting labeled as this gossip podcast, And ironically the label mostly comes from people who aren't happy that they featured on an episode, and I really think it is a way for people to invalidate what we have said and also really denigrade what we do.
I mean, ultimately, Outspoken is not a gossip podcast.
We are qualified journalists and we provide commentary and analysis on pop culture stories, the stories that we discussed them from things that have happened in the news, interviews, public statements, events that influencers have attended, and information people have willingly shared publicly about themselves.
I hate to break it to people, but gossip is not public information that everyone already knows.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 1I mean, we also don't feature blind items or private stories, which a lot of gossip Instagram accounts do do.
I mean, on a rare occasion, maybe we will reference a DM or a tip off from a listener, but we will.
Speaker 2Always fact check those.
Speaker 1I mean, in no basis does that actually act as the basis of the show, though, I mean, maybe five percent gossip sometimes.
And I just find it ironic that, as she accused us of putting women down to create clicks when her labeling our podcast as gossip shows off her internalized misogyny if anything.
I mean, unfortunately, there is a trend where female led pop culture podcasts are getting labeled as gossip podcasts, whereas when men do the exact same thing, it's called commentary and analysis.
I mean, if our podcast was hosted by three men and focused on something like sport or politics, there is no way the discussions would be labeled gossip.
I mean, why are men not gossiping about AFL players when they discuss trade week or when they discuss what's going on at a club.
I just think that the word gossip is now used in a very interchangeable way whenever women talk about celebrities or it's a.
Speaker 2Light and fun show.
Speaker 1But essentially, the word gossip means that you're making stuff up and you're spreading lies and rumors about people.
I mean, the irony is not lost on me that the bulk of our conversations comes from in information that public figures and influencers put out about themselves to the public.
I also think that as she is trying to label us as this gossip podcast so people don't take what we're saying about her businesses.
Seriously, Oh definitely.
I think it stems from maybe a conversation we had regarding her podcast to it, which subsequently got canceled due.
Speaker 2To what appeared to be a lack of interest in it.
Speaker 1Yeah.
I always find it interesting when influencers are so unwilling to name our podcast, because they often make it very clear that that's the podcast they're referring to.
Do you think it's in a bid to not direct attention to it.
Speaker 2I think one of the.
Speaker 1Main reasons that influencers don't name us is because they essentially don't want to drive their hundreds of thousands of followers to our account, So they don't want to be helping our podcast out and promoting us, particularly if we have said something that they don't agree with or don't want out there, and people paid big money to get a mention on their channel, so they're hard they're going to be mentioning someone who they essentially dislike and don't agree with, you know way, I find it a little bit den grading not to even name the podcast, as if it's so beneath them.
Yeah, But it's also because then they can say whatever they like about it, and no one can then go on fact check if they don't actually know what the show is that they're talking about.
Oh, I definitely think there's an element of that, But I do think you know, we've worked on this podcast for over six years.
I think it's coming to seven years and it is an established podcast now.
I mean, I'm very proud of how we've grown the show.
We've actually just hit seventeen million downloads.
So I think when Ashy Bines talks about our podcast, she should name it.
Speaker 4Your friend had a Cobby or there was a Coby at the Pats, So.
Speaker 1The word kubby, like when you hear it, doesn't it just instantly take you back to that place.
Martha Califatitas is set to launch her kid's clothing line this week.
The former Maths contestant made the announcement at the Darlingsheine podcast live show.
Speaker 3Now.
Speaker 1The launch comes off the back of Martha exiting the fashion brand she started with her two best friends Kate Yeah.
Earlier this year.
Martha surprised her followers when she revealed she was no longer a part of lem where So she launched the brand in twenty twenty three with her two best friends, Maya and Yanna.
Now, the name of the brand actually stemmed from a nickname the trio were given years ago by their friends, so it's clear just how close these women were.
Speaker 4Now.
Speaker 1After posting a lot about the brand, suddenly there was radio silence, which led fans to ask Martha what was going on now.
In March, she addressed the rumors in an Instagram Q and A.
To begin with, Martha was very straightforward with her response, so when she was asked if she was still involved with lem she simply wrote no.
She then decided to delete that Instagram story and responded unfortunately no lasting over this boxy pink shirt.
I wish the brand all the best moving forward.
I have actually never heard of her brand before.
Really maybe shows why it's not doing too well.
That's the opposite.
It was doing really well.
Speaker 2It was pretty popular.
Speaker 1Well that being said, Martha Califatitis did block us.
I think it was a couple of years ago.
Speaker 2It was back the day.
Speaker 1Yeah, I actually can't remember.
Oh, I think it was because we discussed a clip where she mimed the N word.
Oh yes, yes, I think I was in twenty twenty.
Yeah, yeah, well, no, lem is actually really popular.
Like they are known for kind of creating quite vintage pieces.
They are renowned for their jaws.
Speaker 2They are actually pretty cool.
Speaker 1There's a lot of tiktoks out about them.
Okay, so it was pretty big that she exited the brand.
Now, following the public announcement on an Instagram story, Martha and the brand both unfollowed each other on social media.
Wow.
Now, while Martha has never shared why she left the brand, there is a lot of speculation she had a falling out with her friends, but she has never spoken on the matter, nor have the friends.
Well.
During this Q and A, she also shared that she was interested in starting a kid's clothing brand, and she finally confirmed the news at the Darling Shine Live show.
Now, the brand is called Cubby House, which I think is a really cute name, and it was in Spa by the nostalgic feeling of hanging out in a cubby house as a kid.
You can tell how much thought and effort has been put into this brand, which I found really refreshing.
It's not an instance where Martha's just slapping her name on something.
She described the collection as her life's work and in a Q and A on the brand's instagram, she spoke through all of the different decisions she had made to ensure the clothes were comfortable and functional for kids.
She also touched on how she was really focused on reducing the brand's environmental footprint, so for example, everything is packaged in tissue paper rather than plastic, and she isn't doing swing tags.
Speaker 2I really like that.
Speaker 1I feel like a lot of influencers know, though, that they've got to do it because as soon as any influence that launches a brand, so many eyes are on them and there is so much judgment.
It didn't feel performative, though, it felt like she was genuinely passionate about it, and that's why I think it's going to be very successful.
I mean, Cubbyhouse's instagram already has thirty five thousand followers.
I think they're going to sell out instantly.
Well, she said that ninety percent of the kid's close going to be unisex, but she couldn't quite resist adding some cute girl stuff.
I assume that's after she discovered that she's having a daughter.
What's pretty funny because Martha and Michael were sharing behind the scenes photos of developing the brand, and they shared quite a few photos of Looch modeling the girl's clothes, and he just looked so cute.
They are absolutely stunning clothes.
All they can think about is the collaboration that they recently did with cotton On for their Christmas campaign.
So last year, cotton On did a campaign with Indy Clinton and their pajamas.
They had kids pajamas and also adults Christmas pajamas family sets.
They sold out immediately some of them.
Speaker 2They were so cute.
Speaker 1I remember we raced into the store to get them.
But this year, Martha and her family launched the campaign and unfortunately the designs were awful.
They literally looked like bowling out.
They're being chucked out in the Black Friday sales At the moment, I can't actually find a good pair of kids pajamas because I wanted to get some for Luca.
Speaker 2But I was like, well, I don't even want these.
Speaker 1No, they didn't even look like pajamas.
They potentially look like clothes you wear out or to go bowling.
I mean, this is no shade to Cottonaon, because I actually love a lot of Cottonon's clothes.
But it was just really disappointing because it was such a hit last year, and I wonder if Martha had anything to do with the design, That's what I was going to say.
I don't think she did.
I think Cottonon just pick her famous family to be the faces of that campaign.
And I wonder if she wants to distance herself a bit from the campaign, to be like, look, I didn't design these clothes.
Speaker 2And I wonder if it also made her a little.
Speaker 1Bit worried leading into this brand, thinking, oh my god, well the clothes didn't sell out this year, how's my brand going to go?
I mean, I think there's a difference between being a face for a campaign and actually manufacturing the clothes for yourself.
I mean, Martha has been working on this clothing brand for the last ten months.
The original plan was to actually share every detail of the process, but Martha falling pregnant and suffering with HG through a spanner in the work.
So the family was actually in China on a trip to visit the brand's manufacturer in July when she was struck down with HG symptoms, and she shared photos of her doing all these fittings with Luke while she was hooked up to an IV drip.
Now Michael said that Martha was then bedridden for two months, and when she was finally able to get up and sit on the couch, she was given the option to push back the launch to twenty twenty six, but he said she wasn't having any of it, so they have planned to launch this week.
I have to say, moms are just remarkable, aren't they they are.
I actually think the HG story might actually prompt people to purchase from this brand that may not have to support Martha well.
Martha is currently twenty three weeks pregnant, but she says she feels about thirty nine weeks pregnant.
I feel so sorry for her, particularly with it starting to get hot now.
How amazing that she managed to attend the Darling Shine Live show.
She said around the eighteen week mark, she began feeling well enough to leave the house for short periods of time, but the nausea is relentless.
I was listening to Amber from Influencer Updates Live about the Darling Shine podcast.
I really enjoyed all of the insights, and she was saying that both Chloe and Martha were struggling during the majority of the show with reflux.
Oh God, and I was like, that is the worst feeling.
I hope they were popping some life savings.
Oh that is horrible.
I've just given me PTSD from that time.
Now, Martha has dropped a few baby name clues.
So back when she was pregnant with Luke, she said that she was convinced she was having a girl and she was set on the name Billy, So Billy Brunelli.
She said it had a cute ring to it.
Speaker 2Do we reckon?
Speaker 1She doesn't like that now that steph Less Smith's taking the name Billy.
Speaker 4Well.
Speaker 1She said that when she told her mum about the name, her face was just like gave it away.
She did not like it.
She said she also loves Bobby and Meadow, but doesn't think she'll use any of those names and doesn't have a name that she's leaning towards at the moment, So she asked her followers for inspo.
What Bobby for a girl?
Yeah, Chloe Fisher's daughter is called Bobby.
Speaker 2Oh okay, I didn't know it was a girl's name.
Speaker 1Oh my god, I'm just having a flashback.
I literally had a dream last night that Amy came in and told us that Harry's name was Bobby, and I'm like, hang on, but it's Harry.
Speaker 2What that she changed it?
Speaker 1Well, I don't even know, you know what, It doesn't even make sense as she's come to me, she's stopped.
Speaker 2On the influencer train.
He's Bobby and his Billy.
I'm not ready.
Isn't a feeling, it's actually a decision.
Speaker 1Nicki Wescott and Lucy Jackson have taken Black Friday marketing to the next level.
On Wednesday, the Happy Hour hosts asked their followers to sign up to find out the gender of Nicky's baby.
This really threw me because I remember listening to Nicky's birth announcement podcast and She's like, no, no, I'm not going to find out.
Speaker 2It's going to be a secret.
I'll find out when the baby's born.
And I was like, hang on what.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 2I was really confused too.
Speaker 1So on Wednesday, Nicki shared a video appearing to do a gender reveal, and in the vision, she was standing in front of Lucy and their Jagger and Stone staff with a confetti cannon.
So the team proceeded to count Nikki down and she let off the cannon and the whole team erupted in celebration, but as all influencers do, as soon as the cannon erupted, it switched to black and white before the gender was revealed, and in the caption, Nicki wrote tomorrow at eight am, sign up Vie link in bio.
Speaker 3Now.
Speaker 1This video attracted a huge response, so at the time of recording, it has over three hundred and eighteen thousand views, four thousand likes, and over six hundred send ons.
Speaker 2I have to admit I saw this video when I was on the toilet.
I feel like that's where you do a lot of miscrolling, particularly.
Speaker 1As a mother or as og listeners will know in the shower, we like to scroll it in the tracks.
I don't do that anymore.
I don't have the time.
Speaker 2I feel like I've damaged my phone from doing it, so I do regret doing it.
Speaker 1Anyway.
When I saw this video, I honed in on Lucy's reaction because I thought her face would give away the gender, and Lucy looked ecstatic, so I was thinking, this is definitely a girl.
Speaker 2I don't know you had girl vibes.
Speaker 1Why do you think Lucy would be ecstatic if it was a girl, Because I feel like as her best friend, they always do dinner out with the girls and drinks with the girls.
I mean, they have a whole female lead team at Jagger and Stone.
I just get the vibe that they think a girl would fit more into their lifestyle.
So that means Nicky's definitely having a boy.
I'm gonna put it out there.
Oh well.
It seemed like Nicki's followers agreed with my sentiment because one follower wrote it's giving girl energy, which received ninety three likes, while another said it's got to be a girl if it's got Lucy reacting like that now.
Speaker 2Later that night, after.
Speaker 1Seeing the video, for some reason, I kept thinking about it, and I was like, wasn't that a bit weird that Nicky's husband, Ollie Frost, wasn't part of the announcement.
It's probably best for Nicky's pr that he's not sort of front and center either, after all of those reports in the Gold Coast Bulletin about his business dealings.
Oh well, he has been front and center of her content.
But yeah, I just thought at the time, I'm like, oh, we'd not to have your husband involved.
I should have really known that something was up, because the next day, Nicki revealed that the video was all part of a Black Friday stunt, so she posted the full video, this time in color to reveal both pink and blue confetti coming from the cannon, and at first I was confused.
I was.
Speaker 2I tried to zoom up to be like, wait, is it blue?
Er is a pink Twins boy?
Speaker 1Yeah?
Speaker 2But then Nicky yelled this.
Speaker 1Now over the top.
It said seventy percent off site wide for Jagger and Stone.
Niki also wrote it's a dot dot dot dot dot Okay, but seriously, you guys didn't think I'd actually do a gender reveal with my staff and not my husband, did you?
Bigger sale ever on Jagger and Stone site entry via password only.
I'm actually a big fan of this Black Friday sale announcement because you have to do a lot to cut through all of the promotion that's out there at the moment.
The fact that they managed to create so much hype is impressive, and also the fact that it's seventy percent off.
Speaker 2Yeah, that's that's huge.
Speaker 1We have seen a lot of brands copying each other this year by doing these comedic fake apology statements.
I got sucked in the first time, and then when I see them, I'm like, scroll, couldn't care less.
Yeah see, I actually love that the girls have done something a bit different because it has really cut through.
The videos have attracted huge send and huge engagement.
I was really curious to see the reaction in the comment section because the girls are known for playing tricks on the punters, so one April Fool's Day, they tricked their listeners that they were shutting down the podcast.
So one follower wrote, just when I think I can't be caught out by you girls again, dot dot dot you get me again, whilst another said well played, ladies.
Others also praise the marketing genius, while others like me so that they were still squinting trying to figure out what color the confetti was.
When I realized this was a prank, my initial reaction was got to hope they don't get slammed, because obviously on the Internet these days, people operate with a lot of sensitivity around fertility, particularly around pregnancy announcements, like there is nothing worse you can do than put up a fake pregnancy reveal.
I know a lot of influencers got slammed around April Fool's Day doing that, But then I was like, oh no, hang on, it's going to be fine.
It's a gender reveal.
Speaker 2It's completely different.
Speaker 1I mean, it'd be a completely different story if Lucy Jackson pretended that she was dropping a pregnancy announcement.
I also feel like, ever so slightly, the Internet is shifting with counsel culture.
Potentially, if this was shared in twenty twenty, I feel like someone could have come up with a reason as to why it'd offended them.
But I'm actually glad that it was received positively because it was all in fun.
Yeah, I think everyone has a bit more of a sense of humor these days.
Speaker 4People are just so nosy fun.
Speaker 1Seven months after unveiling her new nose, Indy Clinton has revealed she's having a corrective rhinoplasty.
The popular TikToker was trolled for months following the procedure, with followers declaring that she had ruined her face.
Now, so if Indy made the admission during an influencer event.
Speaker 2That's right.
Speaker 1So Indy broke the news whilst attending Fast Fashioned Branch show pose fifteenth birthday bash, and that is the birthday bash where Tammy stole the show, walking out with quote an old.
Speaker 2Man, that's what TikTok was calling him.
Speaker 1Potentially he may be the CEO of the talent management company that she is managed by.
I was very sad to miss out on the episode.
I did have a few thoughts about that.
It's also the event where Tammy posted about a mustly man basically cuddling her in bed, which attracted a lot of attention as well.
Yeah, we're not sure if said old man was the same musty man or I don't think it was his arm look too young now.
The brand ended up filming a you Look Happier trend video.
We are seeing this happen at a lot of fast fashioned brand events where they try and jump on all of the trends.
And that is where Indy revealed the news.
Let's take a listen to what she said, thank you.
Speaker 4I'm getting a new nose action.
Speaker 1For a few weeks, I think a lot of people saw this coming.
We have followed this story extensively since back in April when she revealed her nose and was inundated with some disgusting commentary about it.
It did bring out a very ugly side of social media, and when she did reveal her nose, she prefaced that it was very swollen because she was only two weeks post op and that it would take several months to heal.
But this really didn't stop the barrage of justudg and hate, with some followers saying that the nose job had ruined her face, which is just disgusting.
One user wrote, it's one of the worst jobs I've ever seen.
Half her nostrils are cut off, whilst another said she's ruined herself.
She was naturally beautiful, she didn't need surgery.
Now those comments are absolutely apparent.
I feel awkward reading them out, but I wanted to demonstrate just how disgusting the commentary was around this nose job.
I mean, the online bullying became so intense that Indy was forced to shield her nose behind a face mask while she appeared online.
It's quite ironic because when Indy announced her nose job initially, she admitted that she actually considered hiding it from her followers because she didn't want the judgment, and she also didn't want to look like she was promoting cosmetic surgery because it came off the back of her also getting breast in plants a couple of months before.
Yeah, and it got to the point where all of this commentary really negatively affected Indie Clinton's mental health.
She wasn't showing up online.
She was really struggling, and at the end of July she addressed the huge reaction to her nose job, so in a candid TikTok video, she admitted that she wasn't happy with the results of the surgery and didn't ask for the nose that she currently has.
She said, do you think I asked for this genuinely?
Let me make it clear for you guys.
I asked for minor tweaks.
I am Italian, I have a Mediterranean nose.
Speaker 2I love that.
Speaker 1That was what we agreed on.
Does it look like I've had minor tweaks?
There's your answer, ladies and gentlemen.
Speaker 2That's the thing.
Speaker 1Because Indy initially went in for the nose job to fix a minor surfing injury that she had received.
It wasn't because she'd grown up hating her nose or anything like that.
She also spoke more about the nose job on the Stellar podcast.
Let's have a listen to some of what she said.
Speaker 4I just wanted that shaved down, like something here lifted, like to make my nostrils less exposed.
But did that work?
Absolutely not.
And I woke up and I had the cast on my face for twelve days like you do.
And then I went to the office and the nurse moved it and I looked at myself.
I was like, oh my god, with the f and I was under the impression that it would change.
I was told it would change.
It always looks like this, right, But from the get go it looked like a pig.
But a pig is a nice term.
Honestly, it looked like a I don't even know what it looks like.
But it didn't look like my nose.
It didn't look like minor tweaks.
Speaker 1It's really interesting to hear there that Indy was told by the surgeon that don't worry, it'll look different.
They didn't actually say, hey, we fucked up and something's gone wrong here.
Speaker 2Will you hear that a lot?
Speaker 1I remember when Sky Wheatley got her fox eye surgery done in Turkey last year, and the reaction online was just as bad as it was towards Indy Clinton's nose.
People were very unkind but Sky was correct.
The effect really softened and it wasn't as harsh as what she had to begin with.
Well, that's the thing with those jobs, they do typically take a full year to heal and for the final results to be seen.
But as Indy touched on, it was quiet clear that something really didn't go to plan.
Speaker 2So that's why I think that she is getting this revision.
Speaker 1Surgery done quite soon after the initial surgery, because usually people would say, wait a little bit longer.
Yeah, it's been eight months, so but I think it's quite clear in this case something hasn't gone quite right.
And I take my hat off to Indy that she hasn't actually exposed the surgeon who did carry out this surgery.
It would be tough not to, particularly when she has received so much trolling and it has taken such a toll on her mental health.
I wonder if it's the same surgeon doing the revision.
I mean, I assume that she's gone elsewhere.
This is the thing, though, I don't want anyone to feel validated that, you know, oh well, it was fine for me to say these comments because she's not happy with the nose job herself.
I actually think it makes some of these negative comments even worse to consider what Indy was going through.
I mean, it's absolutely horrendous that this surgery has gone down in the way it has.
Speaker 2And that she's so dissatisfied with it.
Speaker 1I just really hope Indy is happy with the revision once it's done and she can just move forward from this.
How much of it she will be documenting, because she actually didn't document the procedure initially.
If I was her, I probably would because it might make people appreciate what she's gone through and be a bit more empathetic.
Do we reckon that she's doing it around Christmas time, so people give her the grace that she's going away on a bit of a holiday.
She might not return until she's fully happy.
Yeah, probably.
I mean she did that when she got her breast implant, she announced that she was taking two weeks off, So yeah, that could all line up.
Well, that is where we're going to leave things today.
