Speaker 1Welcome to Patriot's Unfiltered.
Speaker 3Why don't I have a light on any cameras?
I don't know no talent today, so we don't know which cameras are on.
I'm thinking it's this one will buy sandwich.
He's always just decided to take time off to eat a sandwich.
Sugar was both of us wait till a break and then we eat.
Speaker 4You're good, Sorry, I was finishing my sandwich.
Speaker 3Why don't you wait till the break.
I can just see Aldred making this call with a doctor in front of him, saying.
Speaker 1Cough, hold on, I gotta talk to these guys.
Speaker 3This is important.
Pants down as got a nice haircut, Yeah, just got it this morning.
Speaker 5G and L yep GNA.
Speaker 3Called in last week and made a statement regarding May's fourth quarter comeback against the Ravens.
I stated that they are one of the top rated defenses in the league as of late, to which Paul retorted that.
Speaker 1They are not.
Speaker 3While I understand your role as the bad guy and your tendency to disagree with the majority of takes.
Facts are facts, and numbers don't lie.
Speaker 6My thing is when Paul like misinterprets the point you're trying to make, and then he starts arguing against the point you weren't trying to make, and now you're like, that's not See.
Speaker 3The thing I've learned over by thirty years with Paul Perillo is that he has a lot of arguments going on.
It's a lot of takes that he's getting ready to defend down the road, strategic and that's a lot of what's going on with him.
I see right through it.
I see right through it.
Speaker 1This is Patriot's Unfiltered.
Speaker 5Presented by Toyota's official website for deals by a Toyota dot Com.
Speaker 3All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
It is Christmas Eve here at Jillette Stadium, and the gang's all here.
It'll be Deuce and Evan and Paul and Me and Alex later Alex and Matt and the booth.
We're all here to bring in Christmas for you and also get ready for this matchup with the New Jersey Jets on Sunday.
Speaker 1Perfect.
Speaker 3Yes, absolutely, I heard Evan.
You pooh pooing the whole thing that this might be a tough game.
I heard you want catch twenty two.
I heard you say that you pooh pooed it.
Speaker 5I'm with Evan the reason why that's your touchdown favorites.
Speaker 3Yes, am, I am?
Speaker 4I My laughter didn't didn't do it enough?
Speaker 7Yeah, I mean, come on, like what this is the worst team in the league.
Speaker 3It is, but even the worst team in the league, you know, what's the NFL.
Sometimes things happen.
Speaker 4You don't believe that.
Speaker 1Like what if?
Speaker 3What if?
Speaker 5Like you know, Drake Mega's for turnovers, I don't even think that for a team that's forced three all year, all season.
Speaker 7I literally think that some something like meteor would have to strike the state.
Speaker 3What everyone that has been banged up doesn't play?
Speaker 4Patriots win by three touchdowns?
Speaker 1Okay, this team is I hope right.
Speaker 7This team is actually terrible and I and I don't normally say that, like I try to find reasons.
I think they've given up on this, right, and those are two hand in hand things.
But like they defensively, they're in absolute disarray.
They fired their defensive coordinator.
Offensively, Brady Cook has nothing to do with their future they're just finishing out the string with Brady Cook as their quarterback.
This is as uninspiring of an offense as I've watched all season long.
Watching their tape over the last week, I mean like, there's just nothing that I can come up with to tell you that this is going to be anything remotely worrisome for the Patriots.
So I do think it's funny that I heard I'm Paul shows a little bit some like, you know, well, it's the holidays and it's a weird time of year, and like, please please, That's.
Speaker 5Why I'm not sure that they'll score fifty, because that's the holidays and they might have a little let down.
Yeah, I'm going to take the role of Fred this week.
Yeah, you knowed in three tough schedule.
Speaker 4Bill would score fifty on this team on Sundays.
Speaker 1Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 4Mike Rabel might say let's call off the dots.
Speaker 5It might be smarter to you know, if the game gets like that, to get some guys out and just sort of throttle it down into a giant second half.
That would be the smart.
Speaker 1Thing to do.
Speaker 3Sure, I agreed one thing that you said, Evan that I thought well among others, But one thing that I'm hoping comes true is that the Jets might do things in this game that the Patries have had trouble with over the last few weeks, and so that it becomes sort of a tune up game.
Speaker 7It's a classic tune up game for talk about that a little bit.
This is like this is like when you know Alabama schedules like Alcorn State at the beginning of the season, and like the result is never the question, Like they win by seventy, right, but they feel good about themselves off the game.
You know, maybe they fix some things in game that they haven't been going great.
Speaker 3That's where I want to stop.
Are you able to fix some things if the team is not putting up a fight?
Speaker 7Well, I think you're able to do some of that.
I mean, this is the NFL, Like this is not you know, we're still talking about bres Hall.
We're still talking about NFL players.
Speaker 3But all of a sudden, if the Patriots are stopping the run, is that, you know real or is it?
Well, the Jets really weren't.
Speaker 7I think that you can you can do things and from like almost like a muscle memory standpoint of like we're going to play better technique, we're going to be more physical, and that I do think can help you come into your own a little bit.
You know, I can use the comparison of you know, the eighteen team that beat up on the Jets and the Bills in the last two weeks of the season, and they use that as a launching pad into a playoff run, and I there's not the same exact situation, but I think that it's similar enough that in these two games.
You know, the Jets in bress Hall have can run the ball a little bit.
Their numbers aren't great, but they have the personnel to be able to run the ball a little bit.
That's obviously been an issue for the Patriots.
And I'd say the next week.
You know ve Chan plays, you know the Dolphins have run the ball all year pretty well.
Speaker 5Yeah, I think next week they could get that test.
I agree, because even down the stretch here with Miami, they've been running the ball pretty well.
Speaker 4He's really good.
Speaker 5HeSE Hall's kind of been out of the lineup a little bit.
But the eighteen analogy is a good one.
I would have been the first one to argue with Fred then, just going back to my argumentative nature, I would have argued with Fred, you can't learn anything with those two games.
I would still argue stubbornly admittedly that that particular aspect was a little bit overrated.
But they went on.
They got the ship righted with those two games at the end of the year, and they went on into the playoffs, and Sony Michelle was, you know, a big part of the way they played in those first two playoff games and ran the ball and ended up winning another title that a lot of people didn't see coming.
Speaker 6I like that you have an opportunity to play for something in these last two weeks too, So I just I think coming out of the game where maybe you can complete the perfect road record eight to zero against the Jets, then you can come home and you know, maybe you're playing for the division and maybe you win that game and you win the division.
Speaker 1So both of these games could result in a little celebration.
Speaker 6Good vibes, like feeling like you're accomplishing something, not where you get into some of these Week eighteen games and you're like, let's just survive, let's just hope nobody gets hurt.
I mean, I'm sure that there's an element of that too for this team.
But you know, it actually has something to play for and when you win these games, to have a tangible result that you can say, hey, we're adding to what we did this season.
And I think those things are good for for momentum.
And you know, we'll see about that number one seed that that's still on my mind too.
Speaker 5Yeah, if your point Fred about you know, NFL and anything, you're you're right, and you can never just say there's no possible way.
But it would have to require a lot of Patriots help, you know, the turnovers.
The one area that the Jets are really good in is special teams.
I think they have three or four returns for touchdowns, so allow you know, allow a kick return for a touchdown.
Kick coverage has been a little leaky to the point where they would you know, mostly calling for touchbacks.
The other night, I think they only had two returns allowed and out of the six or so kicks, so allow a lower return and turn the ball over a couple of times and fall behind and all of a sudden, you know, the other team maybe decides, hey, we might be able to steal one and spoil something for the Patriots.
But that would be, in my view, the only way because if it's just a game that gets played out normally with no turnovers, nothing, you know, outside them, I just I can't I can't see Brady Cook.
This isn't that Brady.
Speaker 1It's a different breed.
Speaker 3And the Jets pressure isn't that good.
Where May is going to have huge amounts of problem.
Speaker 5No, they don't get a lot of.
Speaker 1I mean they mix it up a lot.
Speaker 6Will McDonald's okay, and you know they have they have some pieces.
But you know, I think Evan said that they're tackles, I mean, variable pointed out their tackles are getting pretty good plays, so you know there are some challenge, which is I think Patriots.
Sounds like Tonga's got a one to two week injury according to Ian Rappaport, so he's likely to be out.
I'm not really banking on mill wounds being back out there, and the way he sounded his locker yesterday, it sounds like it's.
Speaker 1Still a feel it out process.
Speaker 6So they really might have, you know, bar more dirtin Eric Gregory, Jeremiah Farms gets promoted maybe like those I mean they're gonna be they're gonna be scraping the barrel with some of these guys.
Speaker 3Well, you know, Jets could play ball possession football and Breest Hall slow down the game, keep the score down.
Speaker 4They could do that for four quarter.
Speaker 5If he plays, he might not even play.
Speaker 7They could do that to start the game, and maybe it's a little bit closer than you want it to be in like the first quarter, but they're not gonna be able to sustain that.
Like eventually Drake may is gonna start scoring.
And at that point, I mean, if it was just one side of the ball with the Jets, then I would be like, okay, Like their defense is pretty good and you know, kind of like Cleveland.
Speaker 4Cleveland has a great defense.
Speaker 7So in the second half again Buffalo that their defense came alive and they were able to give Josh Allen some problems.
I just I don't see on either side of the ball, like where the real dilemmas?
Speaker 3All right, Well, the games in hand, So let's talk about is Diehard at Christmas movie?
Speaker 1I'm only kidding, I.
Speaker 4Said on Catshwoyne too.
I had ten minutes on the Jets.
Speaker 1That's all.
Speaker 4Like it's it's one of those games that like you.
Speaker 3Don't really think, no, it's not a Christmas movie.
Speaker 5No, you don't really think it is going to be like a tougher game closer than people think he does.
Like the Miami You can make an argument for Miami.
I don't think that's going to be either, but I can listen to that.
Speaker 3I say, seventy percent of me says it's not going to be a tough game.
But there's that thirty percent that says it's the NFL, it's a division game, it's the Jets.
Speaker 5You know, if if Justin Fields or Tyrod Taylor were playing and I saw any semblance of a pulse from the Jets defense over the last say six weeks and Breese Hall was sort of engaged, yeah, I could say it's the NFL.
Anything could happen, blah blah blah.
But none of those things have happened.
Like the Jets games have been pretty much over pretty quickly.
And Brady Cook, I mean, I'm not this is not a disrespect to him.
I mean he's thrust into a role that he's not ready for.
He's an undrafted rookie.
I think he's undrafted.
Speaker 3Yep.
Speaker 5It was kind of mid in college.
He wasn't a great college quarterback at Missouri.
Doesn't have a ton to work with it.
Like it's John Metchi and ad Mitchell.
There's two wide receivers.
You know, Garrett Wilson's not, you know, not playing.
Breese Hall hasn't been playing.
Maybe he comes back and plays this game.
I don't even think Mason Taylor played the last game, you know, you know, kind of a promising young tight end, rookie tight end.
They just I don't really see where they go to make it an interesting game.
Speaker 4Yeah, I think you can make the case for Miami.
Speaker 5And Miami has been sort of spunky and.
Speaker 7It takes a hit that they benched Tua finally and it's gonna be quinn yours instead of two.
Speaker 5But for a half he looked all right.
Now he didn't didn't play very well in the second half.
Speaker 4Like a chan waddle.
Speaker 7Like those guys are talented players, right did The Jets don't have any of that, Like they traded Sauce Gardner and Quentin Williams.
Garrett Wilson's not playing.
Bristol doesn't want to be there.
He requested a trade and they didn't give.
Speaker 1It to him.
Speaker 4He wants out.
Speaker 8Uh.
Speaker 7Their tackles I think are building blocks, but they're not.
You don't build a team to beat the Patriots around two young tackles.
Speaker 5So come in boasting you two young tackles, like, we're gonna pull it up set because we got two good tackles.
Speaker 4Yeah, but I those guys.
Speaker 7If you're starting to talk about, like how did the Jets pull out of this kind of messy thing?
I think Fashanu and Membu are gonna be good players.
Speaker 5Yeah, but they look like two picks.
Speaker 1It's like to your only building blocks, you know, yeah, gar.
Speaker 5We and unfortunately, their draft picks haven't really been a huge problem, Like they just keep tating they've done okay with their draft picks.
You know, I'm not saying that every one of them was a home run.
Speaker 6But don't they get good and then they they get.
Speaker 5Some good players and they don't have a good player where it counts, and it's hard to it's hard to overcome that.
Speaker 3Yeah, yep, okay, Jets.
Speaker 4I'm sorry.
I don't like being disrespectful.
No, all right, I try to hype up the other teams just a little bit.
Speaker 3So, as we talked about, the Patriots do have a lot to play for.
There's that perfect road record that they'd like to keep intact.
And if the Patriots win and later on the Bills lose to the Eagles in Buffalo, it's a four to twenty five game.
The Patriots have the AFC East.
I don't think that outcome is going to happen.
I think the Bills are going to win that game.
The Eagles already, they've already Josh.
Speaker 5All stunned, he has already locked up.
I think Buffalo is gonna win.
I'm stunned you think that.
Speaker 3Well, I'm being realistic here.
I think the Eagles don't have as much to play for and they're going in the wrong direction despite having the NFC East.
So I think the Bills, you know, are you know, they got a good draw here and a good and they're in a good spot.
I would say.
Speaker 1I think Josh Allen missed the walk through yesterday.
Speaker 3Yeah, Josh, he's just getting ready.
Speaker 4His second half against his second half against Cleveland was not.
Speaker 5Good because he couldn't move you see it.
Yeah, the play happened at the end of the first half, which, by the way, another officiating a safety.
Yeah, it's clearly a safety.
And I don't like I'm not like you people.
I don't really care who wins all these games, you people, you know, because that the league thinks that they for you people, that the league favors the bills.
You know this, Come on, you know that that's a bad calling.
Speaker 3I think I did.
Speaker 5So he scrambled around one of those like you know, he was twenty yards behind the line of scrimmage and he ended up slipping.
Speaker 3Right at the goal line.
I didn't see that, Okay.
Speaker 5So he's down on the ground on the goal line and he's trying to reach the ball out.
The ball does not go all the way out like It's just like when you break the plane of the goal line to score a touchdown.
It's the same thing for a safety.
It has to go all the way out.
Speaker 7It was like the Titans guy in the super If it breaks the plane of the goal line, it's considered to be in the.
Speaker 5End zone, right, So the parity of the ball has to be outside of the goal line.
That makes sense, And it wasn't.
And they deemed that he had given himself up.
Speaker 1At the one.
Speaker 5He didn't give.
Speaker 1Himself up, still making an act.
Speaker 5He was trying to get the ball out of the end zone because he rightly, he smartly said oh no, this is going to be a safety.
Speaker 3You never noticed that the refs hate giving up safeties.
Yeah, everything, they yes, that's a great point.
Everything in their power to not call it a safety.
They do.
Speaker 5They should just get rid of the rule because you're right, yeah, yeah.
You know, how many times do you see intentional grounding in the end zone and you know there's a guy like they do, they seem very reluctant to call.
Speaker 4All right, I'm with you on that one.
Speaker 7The foot thing for Josh Allen is interesting.
He did not play like himself in the second half against Cleveland, and the Browns to you know, stayed in the game.
Speaker 5As The reason why I think that's a big deal is they were dominant before that.
The first three times they got the ball, these touchdowns, they went, you know, that vaunted Cleveland defense, bang bang bang, and then he got hurt and Evan's right, it was kind of a struggle in the second half.
They got some points set up by the defense to just to do just enough to to win.
If you know, it's incredible Browns had any semblance of an offense, they might have been able to win that game.
As tough, Like I said, he's not I mean, in his defense, I just don't think he's right.
Speaker 1It's not.
Speaker 3Tough team to depend on.
Speaker 4He makes a few plays him that well, you know, he's.
Speaker 5A gamer, but his arm isn't that strong.
He's pretty accurate.
I think he's accurate.
I don't think his arms that's wrong.
He's not a very good athlete, and I think he kind of operates.
Speaker 3Like he's a really good athlete.
Speaker 5Yeah, and he runs around a lot and gets run down like Greg Russo.
Speaker 1Just like.
Speaker 7There's some uh, you know, weird things to play calling wise with the Browns, where as Joe Murray would say a little smelly.
Speaker 5Yeah, well certainly that game against Tennessee.
Yeah, that two point conversion.
Speaker 4Yeah, the two point conversion.
Speaker 7And then last week they had like a third and three in the red zone and down three I think it was, or down whatever it was, and I threw a pass behind the line of scrimmage that lost yardage and then they kicked the field goal on fourth down.
Speaker 4I think they were down six.
I think it was twenty three seventeen.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 7I yelled at the TV and instead of like you know what, everybody was like, whoa they had to kick on four I'm not talking about fourth down.
I'm talking about third down, Like it's third and four and you don't throw the ball five yards pass, you can't throw the ball past the sticks.
Speaker 5Yeah, I think I know the players.
Speaker 1It was weird.
Speaker 5Yeah, I thought the Browns were gonna at least I figured the Bills would win the game.
But I thought the Browns were going to take the lead in the second half, and then that kind of self destruction happened.
It was a little smelly, I agree.
Speaker 1Changes How do you feel about Josh Allen and the Bills right now?
Speaker 6Like, I just watching enough of them over the years and this last few weeks, just watching you know, what he did here, what he did last week, and it just and they have James Cook, so they're not completely barren, but it just feels like they put so much on him, and he puts so much on himself that like they're just going to drain his life force every season until he's.
Speaker 1Going to be like a shell of himself in the thirties.
Speaker 6And then I feel like it's going to be like l Way and he's got to learn to play from the pocket and not run as much any you know, Like I just I don't I say this is a neutral fan, I'll take off my Patriots fan hat.
If I was a Bills fan, I would just be doing what the Patriots were like, clamoring for some dynamic weapons for this guy because and I don't even know if it helps, because it almost seems like he's at his best when he pulls it all on himself.
But we're seeing him start to get a little banged up.
He's getting older, Like I just it's gonna be harder for him to continue to just take the team on his back every single season.
Speaker 3I think if I was a Bills fan, yeah, I'd be looking for more weapons, but I'd also be frustrated with my defense, the breakdowns that they have, well.
Speaker 7Their defense has gotten old, and then you know they they haven't drafted particularly well on that side of the ball to replace some of those guys like Milano and Hide and Employer and Tredevius White's now back after you know, I'm trying to move on from Tredevius White.
But I do think that they've done a better job of running the ball conventionally with count Allen being involved, which does take a little bit off of his plate.
They can ride James Cook like they can.
You know, they have a great offensive line and they have a really good running back, and they can they can say we're gonna put Alan under center and we're just gonna hand it to James Cook twenty five times and that can be productive for them, which is not the way that it was two or three years ago.
So that should translate, you know, to January.
Speaker 5They need to reset, you know, I've been talking about that with Kansas City.
I think Buffalo and I think they did.
I think they sort of sort of recalibrated on the fly, and they've missed some Like Evan said that, you know, some of the draft picks and just like Christian Benford was a low round pick that really hit for them, But they took a corner in the first round in kyer Elam who was a colossal bust.
So that's you can't do that.
And I know that you might just look at it and say, well it evens out in the wash.
It doesn't because you needed to have those guys.
You need a first round pick to be a good player.
Speaker 4That's there, Nikhil Harry, Jacoby Myers.
Speaker 5Right, So that's a really bad pick.
Now they need they're gonna need to find some you know, like Khalishakir.
That's a really good draft pick.
I think it was like a fifth or sixth round pick.
Fourth was he that high?
Speaker 1All right?
Speaker 5So fourth round pick, that's a really good pick.
He can't be your best receiver.
Speaker 1He can't.
Speaker 5He's not.
He's not a good enough player.
He's like a three.
So they're gonna need to find a way.
You can't miss with the key On Coleman pick.
You can't miss with the kyar Elum pick.
This Hairston kid this year has showing some flashes.
He looks like he can play a little bit.
But Evan's right, they they've gotten a little old.
I still I still fear him, you know, but then yeah, so but I just look at Buffy you like you you asked the question, like for all of these things that are wrong with Buffalo, they're a game behind you who and everything has gone right for you?
So, like how bad are they?
Speaker 4Because the quarterback would be the quarterback.
Speaker 5Exactly exactly now.
Sunday I think was as predictable as anything they had, Like this shootout win against Tampa, this like in the snow, like really emotional game against Cincinnati.
You know, you know, you know, smashed around that the you know, a huge twenty one point comeback in Foxborough.
Now you're going to Cleveland.
You know, you don't need your best to beat Cleveland.
I mean that's why I know we all I think we all took Buffalo to win the game.
Speaker 1In Cleveland to cover.
I think we all got it right.
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 5I did I think it would be that close to a loss.
Probably not, but I thought that would be one of.
Speaker 1Those games where you're, like, what do you do in Buffalo?
Speaker 5Just put them away?
Yeah, because you just can't play at that level every week.
Yeah, they don't have enough that it's going to look better than that when you're on cruise control.
You know what I'm saying.
For sure, last year, that game on Cruise Control is a ten ten point win instead of a three point win.
They've made some weird picks, like they've missed a little bit.
The Kincaid's a good player, but it's not a needle moving pick in the first round, you know, especially the way that they play like they can't play them all the time because you can't block, so like they actually play Dawson Knox like just as much as they played in Kaid because he's a better blocker.
So like in Kid is really a third down specialist for them or past game specialist.
Speaker 7Uh, you know Max harriston their first round pick.
Last year's corner has been hurt and I was iffy on him to begin with.
We'll see what ends up happening with it.
Speaker 5He's been okay since he came back.
Yeah, but yeah he missed the first whatever part of you think he's opened the season on ir Yeah.
Speaker 7Yeah, Paul mentioned Kyrie Illam like those are like those are like their last like three first round picks.
Speaker 5Eland's been on like three or four teams like in a short period of time.
Speaker 1That was a bad pick.
Speaker 5Well, I mean so everybody thought it was a bad pick when they made it.
Speaker 1Yeah, that smells a little bit like the Patriots draft picks.
Speaker 6And you know, the late two thousands, you had a quarterback who was able to, you know, keep you going.
I guess just the difference for me is that whereas Brady was able to play into his forties because he wasn't putting himself in harm's way.
How long can you expect Josh Allen to continue to be Superman?
And take the hits, and you know when the guy have it plays, he's bowling guys.
Speaker 7Over him because he have a Cam new trajectory.
It's gonna people he's a much better passion than I.
Speaker 5Think that will allow him to to have much more long.
Speaker 7Term People have used the Cam Newton comparison, where like when you are Superman and you're running as much as he is and putting your body out in But.
Speaker 5I'll give you like the reason why I don't think it's and I understand why people make the comp But when it was twenty twenty, right, that was the COVID year that we had Cam, he what did you think of him as a runner that year?
So that part didn't deteriorate, but he can't throw it.
Speaker 4Did a little bit, do you know what I mean?
Speaker 5So I don't think it was as much a physical deterioration.
It's this not like the glaring weaknesses of him not being able to throw were on full display.
He was still a runner.
But when that's all you can do.
And as Evan just alluded to, what I agree with Evan just said, he wasn't like Lamar Jackson as a runner.
Speaker 1Was it was amit Newton in the prime runner.
Speaker 5He was a physical runner, but he wasn't running away from people.
But he couldn't throw.
He wasn't accurate enough.
Speaker 7Yeah, Cam in the open field with Carolina and with Auburn was something.
Speaker 5Differential to play for Auburn.
Speaker 9Uh.
Speaker 5I can't even remember who it was against, but we were I remember we were in San Diego.
Speaker 1This is how vividly I remember it.
Speaker 5We were in San Diego watching the game on a Saturday and he just ran away from that at the last minute, and it was just like, man, that guy, he's just different.
You could just see he was operating at a different level of everybody.
Speaker 3And this is sec football.
Speaker 7His season at Auburn might be one of the best college football seasons of all time.
Speaker 4You know, it's it's up there, all right.
Speaker 3How was your Buffalo?
Speaker 1Thank you?
I appreciate it.
I appreciate that.
Thank you, guys.
Speaker 3Yeah, all right.
Podcast at dot com is the email address eight five to five pass five hundred is the hot line.
Jeremiah writes in about the Jets.
He says they're playing for the number one pick and their coach has job security for next year, so I do not see the Jets doing anything to even try and win this game.
I say this game is going to be a very comfortable win.
Speaker 5I do too.
I'm not so sure about Aaron Glenn's he's going to be there.
Speaker 7Next So I did someone probably did he did he get a vote of confidence.
Speaker 4I did not hear that.
Speaker 1I think.
Speaker 5I think to be a one and done you have to have a lot of really sort of bad things happen.
We just saw it, you know here up close.
I think a lot of those kinds of things have been happening with the Jets.
I wouldn't say that he's a guarantee to be back now.
He probably will be Fred You're right, probably probably going to be but that kind of dysfunction generally.
Speaker 3You know what about Stefanski, he seems bulletproof.
Speaker 5I think Stefanski is a pretty good coach.
Maybe just needs to go this time.
But like maybe one Kevin said, like some snippy calls, here's a couple of games.
Speaker 1I mean, he's never really gotten to pick his quarterback, has he.
Speaker 5I mean, like, you want to talk about a draft, I saw this on Twitter this week, like they had a tremendous draft with the exception of these two quarterbacks you know kind of can't play, and it kind of just created a controversy, like you took these two, you know, later round guys and Gabriel and Sanders, who I don't think either one of them is going to be the future, and all it's done is create turmoil for you.
But you know the defensive line, Mason Graham is, you know, looks exactly the part, like everybody thought, just a good, solid, workman like interior defensive lineman.
That the linebacker has been terrific.
Yeah, defensive is it Dylan Sampson, It's like been a good like kind of sub backer.
Speaker 4Yeah, yeah, sweahing jerk and my win defensive Rookie of the Year.
Speaker 5Yeah, So like that, they had a really good draft.
And I know that he's not necessarily making all the picks but the quarterback stuff.
And then sort of like I'm calling the plays.
No, I'm not calling the plays now, Tommy Reese is calling them.
He's it might be time.
Speaker 6He still seems like the guy gets fired gets snapped right up.
That make me it doesn't even I think he gets a second chance.
He just for some reason, and I mean I think he's done well with what he's had, but he has respect that kind of Transcendsland might have to coordinate again.
Speaker 1With Mike right away he gets me chance.
Speaker 5I think I think he's considered to be a reputation pretty good offensive mine, and I just I think people look at him and say he's been able to win reasonably well without a quarterback, and they wonder what we do with a quarterback.
I think he's a two time Coach of the Year.
Speaker 4Yeah, I have a tough time with him as an offensive mind.
Speaker 1I am not overly impressed.
Speaker 7I think he has a system, and I think the system stable and sound.
But like I don't watch Cleveland games and be like, wow, what a scheme.
But but I think that their scheme is is.
Speaker 4Stable.
Speaker 7Like I think that you can put players in the quarterbacks, especially, and it's not a cumbersome offense to run, and it's smooth and he knows what he's doing and like all those different types of things.
But I don't think that he's like some like unbelievable play designer where I'm like blown away by what they're doing schematically, but they're you know, we don't have to get too much into Cleveland, but.
Speaker 5You know that that Cleveland draft.
I left out, so Mason Graham, quinch On Judkins, then you know Schweisinger, Harold Fannin yeh, and Dylan Sampson, Like I said, you know, sort of sub running back.
The two quarterbacks in there kind of make I think they created turmoil.
I might even this is less about their ability as it is, like it didn't make sense to draft both of them.
Speaker 7The only thing I'd push back on is the Mason Graham pick, the most predictable pick of the draft, Like similar to gent d he's a good player, but they need difference makers and he's not want.
Speaker 3Let's see.
Barton Poland says the game that we really should be watching is Chargers against Houston.
He says, we really need the Chargers to win.
That's the only way they don't their starters versus Denver in Week eighteen.
Speaker 5This is a very good point by bart that I happen to agree with for exactly the reason.
Speaker 7He's definitely right that it's a big game.
I'm still watching Buffalo, Like I think for this team it's important to to win the division.
I think it means a lot to them.
I think it means a lot to Rabel.
You know his introductory press conference, take advantage of bad football, win the division, compete for championships like those.
Speaker 1Were the post home playoffs.
Speaker 7Well, yeah, but you do that automatically.
I I like it's but like he said both and I was like, well, if you win the division, Mike like, uh, yeah, but that is that is a big like objective, and I think that it's it's really important for them to finish this thing off in tangible Yeah.
Speaker 5But the point about the number one seed I think is ex accurate.
You know, the Chargers, if they if they don't have anything to play for, they're as banged up as any team in.
Speaker 1The league, they'll shut it down.
I think I think they could be guys.
Speaker 5Now, they might not win in Denver anyway, but if they don't necessarily have anything to play for, it's important.
Speaker 3Anthony wants to know.
Can you guys recall a time where three teams who have been juggernauts in a conference all needed to seriously retool their teams?
The Chiefs, Ravens, and Bills all need serious rehauls, although maybe not as much for Buffalo given their success.
Doesn't think the race a lot of talent.
Speaker 5I think their talent isn't the issue.
I think that the coach might.
Speaker 4Need and Lamar got hurt.
Speaker 5Yeah, and you could make the same argument for Lamar as who are trying to talk about with you know, is too much on him?
Is that what's going to happen because he has been I mean Josh Allen plays every game La does.
Speaker 4Yeah.
I mean Lamar got hurt and then got hurt again, and now he's hurt again, and.
Speaker 5He's missed games pretty much regularly.
I would say, I don't say every year, but at least three three different seasons he's missed games.
Speaker 4I think Baltimore would be in the playoffs.
I faver didn't get it.
Speaker 3I agree Ashton wants to know, with our lack of pass rush, how is Swinson done with his chances?
He was fantastic at LSU.
He hasn't had any He hasn't had any chances.
Speaker 4Yeah, I've been playing on special teams.
Speaker 3Should he have chances?
Speaker 7I mean I would assume that if he's secretly really good, that they would be playing him.
I don't think that.
Speaker 6The question is about Ponder and I think he's been I mean or nothing.
Speaker 7Yeah, he had a decent game when they're using him on the inside against Buffalo, but then last week it wasn't as well good.
But I just for better or worse, I think that there's something to Landry and Chase on have been their guys.
I think Rabel's loyal to Landry especially, and I think it's going to take something like an injury or something severe for them to not go down them with the ship.
With those two guys being their their bookend edge rushers.
Speaker 6It was tough watching Landry back on this one.
I just I don't think he has any bursts right now.
It just it seems like he's playing through something significant and I'm not sure it's going to get better this year and.
Speaker 4It's probably still playing right.
Speaker 6And my bigger question is just to get to the off season.
How much do they focus on that in free agency in the draft, that edge spot.
It's just, you know, even Chased on him and I like him, but I think I'd like him best if he was like the third guy part of the rotation, that you had three guys that you felt comfortable with on any down.
Speaker 7In this game, they took him off the field on early downs.
They put to Vaian Jennings on the edge on rundowns.
So I think they agree with you, like he's really a situational pass rusher.
Yeah, in his ideal role.
Speaker 1Quick.
Speaker 6I mean you gotta love the effort at the end.
I mean that the pursuit to go back to that at the end was tremendous.
Speaker 5Now you had the number about how much they were sort of targeting those guys both both sides, but mostly to the left, and that's probably why Evans pointing about them taking them out.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, Chase was tough.
Speaker 3Yeah, eight five five pats five hundred is the hotline.
Let's get to it.
Sean's and Vancouver.
What's up Sean?
Speaker 10And yesterday, Mike I implement to on the nineteen eighty five Patriots podcast.
So I have a game for you guys on that.
Speaker 1All right, I got an unfair advantage, I think.
Speaker 10Well, no, but you know you've been doing the work, so Mike, you can you can chime in on this for sure.
And in nineteen ninety six, Patriots Director of person player personnel Bobby Greer clashed with Parcels over draft decisions, which led to build Parcels leaving the team after the Super Bowl.
LOFs what role did Bobby Greer have with the nineteen eighty five New England Patriots?
Speaker 4I know, Bobby college scouting director.
I don't know.
I just got wait, hold on, there's no way I'm trying to say.
Speaker 1Yeah, it was a Robbie running back.
Speaker 3Yeah, yeah, it's an offensive backfield coach.
Speaker 10You're right, yep, there you go.
Speaker 11Okay, next question.
Speaker 10The Patriots selected center Trevor Matage twenty eighth overall nineteen eighty five draft.
What college did he attend?
Speaker 1Why are you there?
Speaker 3You go?
Speaker 1Yeah?
I didn't play, guy.
Speaker 10I don't know if I'm going to stop anybody with these questions.
Which two teams did the Patriots beat twice in nineteen eighty five?
And what were the scores?
Speaker 3Oh?
Speaker 1I don't know.
They beat the Jets and the Dolphins twice.
Speaker 3That's right.
Speaker 1Yeah, no, I'm not sure the score.
Speaker 5Scor Paul, Yeah, the Jets and the Dolphins they beat twice.
Speaker 10Yeah, No, it's it's the Bills seventeen to fourteen and the Bill Okay, well, they get home, they cold thirty four fifteen at home, and the Colts thirty eight thirty one in Indy.
They lost in Miami and they lost an overtime to the Jets.
Speaker 5I just know them, but they beat them in the playoffs.
Speaker 3Well does he maybe you're just regular season?
Speaker 5Yeah, yeah, right, because they I think they split with both of those in the regular season.
Speaker 3Correct, Ye, yeah, that's what he's saying.
Yeah, they did them twice.
Speaker 10I meant the regular season.
Speaker 1Okay, yeah, the other two AFC teams.
Speaker 3You have to be specific, Convince Ferragama.
If the Bills, we'll catch you on the fourteen.
Speaker 10All right, two more questions.
The Patriots only went to overtime once in nineteen eighty five.
Who did they play and what was the score?
Speaker 5Jolt Jess, I lost sixteen thirteen?
Speaker 3Yeah, yeah, Jet, they had it.
Speaker 4I knew it was one of the teams.
Speaker 5He just said at le heat field goal, that was like a knuckleball, that just barely like kind of me.
Speaker 3I remember his shoelace was untied, and.
Speaker 5I don't remember that for that's just creepy, freaky.
Speaker 1Were you roomed for the Jets at that point, friend?
Speaker 3Probably eighty five.
Speaker 1I was.
Speaker 3I was living in Boston and I was rooting for the Patriots.
Speaker 1Did you go to the rally send them off?
Speaker 3No?
Speaker 5What's the last one?
Sean.
Speaker 10Nineteen eighty five nfl CO Defensive Player of the Year and Hall of Famer Andre Tippett led the AFC with sixteen and a half stacks, but also achieved greatness in which martial art?
Speaker 3Oh, it's it's a it's a form of judo.
Speaker 1Nope, taekwondo?
Speaker 8No?
Speaker 1Is it krobma goal?
I don't know what is it?
Speaker 12No?
Speaker 10He had that seventh degree black belt in karate karate.
Speaker 6I'm a karate man the inside.
Speaker 1Thank you, Mike.
Speaker 4Is this Ralph Machi.
Speaker 5I always love having Mike here because you always.
Speaker 1Get the Eddie Murph.
Thanks.
Speaker 7Thanks new episode Monday, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanaka.
Speaker 3Let's go to Nate in Connecticut with me.
Speaker 11Nate, can you guys to well?
Speaker 13Uh so, first off, I just want to merry Christmas everyone, Thanks to Nate and thank you.
And we have the Jets this upcoming Sunday.
And they say that this is a rivalry, and yes it is, but this rivalry has been like one sided forever and with the position that the Jets are in this year, it's just gonna be I think it's going to be a blowout win.
Thank Patriots.
We're gonna we're gonna take this stuff.
We're gonna hopefully get the divisions with a bill lost and changing topics.
Since it is Christmas, ease, I just want to know what are your favorite Christmas movies to watch?
Speaker 14Personally?
Speaker 13I'm a home Alone fan.
One and two.
The other home alones I hate the ones are probably the best.
Speaker 3I don't know what.
Speaker 5Yeah, okay, there's a handful, all right, I think there's three.
Speaker 3All right, thanks, you have a good one tomorrow.
I mean, Christmas Story is favorite of mine.
You've seen them all so many times that, like you know.
Speaker 1Diar Hard.
Speaker 3There's four home Christmas.
Speaker 7Movie, Christmas Vacation, Christmas Vacation on Christmas Vacation is pretty good.
Speaker 5That's a good Home Alone.
I think Nate's Nate's Home.
Speaker 4Is great too.
Speaker 3But Charlie Brown Christmas, well, I don't actually just the music too.
I always put Andy Hart hated all painters he could.
Speaker 8He didn't get it.
Speaker 3You didn't understand the attraction.
Speaker 1I was.
While Andy was.
Speaker 5A little ridiculous with it, I kind of agreed with him.
Speaker 4When I can't do it, I can't do like the real Christmas ones.
That's like you gotta it has to have.
Speaker 3Something sty one.
Speaker 4Yeah, like I.
Speaker 5Don't know, it's a wonderful wife, right, Like what about Elf?
Speaker 8That was?
Speaker 1I like Elf?
Speaker 3Elf?
Speaker 4And Christmas Vacation.
Speaker 1It's funny.
Speaker 5I do like Christmas Vacation though.
Speaker 4It's it's like an hour and thirty.
It's not like a carpet wet.
Yeah, the neighbors.
They extended cuts better because there's more of the neighbors than the extended cut.
Speaker 1You know what's kind of scary when you're watching now is that Rudolph claymation one.
Speaker 5It's like it's scary.
Speaker 6Yeah, I don't know, it's just it's it's kind of scary.
Speaker 5I don't know, it's something creepy.
The whole message is like I have no use for you until you can help me.
Speaker 3Right, it's true Christmas passage, that Christmas Christmas message, right, you know you get me.
Speaker 5They are saying, oh, it needs work.
Speaker 1It's like it's.
Speaker 5Really bad dentist.
Speaker 1It wants to be a dentist.
Speaker 7I did like the the Tim Allen Santa Claus movies too.
Speaker 4Those ones.
Speaker 1I saw the first one, the second one's back.
Speaker 6There is no like a handful of five or six of these movies that are just when we named them.
Speaker 1They're just awesome.
They're all rewatchable and fun.
Speaker 4And none of them are dying now.
Speaker 3So okay, let's go to de Seawan and Virginia.
What's up?
Speaker 5Godfather Great Christmas.
Speaker 4Potter is another one.
Speaker 15Yeah, So I just want to stalk about saying I was at this game Sunday night, and the biggest thing I can say is that I'm not very impressed by this defense resimilarly to the secondary, because when I watch these guys, it's like they don't challenge anybody.
I mean, like they don't have to get any interceptions, let alone even like that passes away and it's like I'm watchings, there always seem to be somebody open, you know, and teams are able to consistently drive the ball, uh you know, every single job when they get it.
And it's not like we're the best defensive team in the red zone.
So when teams get down there, they most definitely crack through to go get a touchdown, Like every time was how many get down there?
So when I'm looking at this team right now, I think that the biggest thing, and they called the pictures the foe, is this is this defense and you can't depend on a second year quarterback to pull you out.
He's sucking your quarterback.
I mean, like you can't expect him to go ahead and be the same the day.
I mean, I don't see it happened in the game.
Speaker 3Oh yeah, I mean I think everyone agrees with it.
To Shawn, if they lose, it's going to be because of the defense.
Speaker 4I think you just hope that they're going to get their guys back.
Speaker 7Thanks to you know, this defense has issues and we've talked about them all year long, but not having Milton Williams and Robert splane is is huge pieces.
Speaker 5And if they get all those.
Speaker 7Guys back and they can stop the run again, yeah, you know it's hard to stop the pass when it's third and four.
You know, there's a lot of things on the menu.
There's a lot of options for the offense.
You know, when you get teams off schedule and you get them behind the chains and you get them into third and longs, you know, that's when you can create turnovers and pressure.
Speaker 4In all that.
Speaker 3Season though before when they were stopping the run, weren't they rated low in pass defense?
Speaker 4Well, they were rated low in terms of like adjusting for schedule.
Speaker 1You know know what that means?
Speaker 5Way, Yeah, they're still rated low because that's hip and takes into account the off.
Speaker 3I'm just talking about, like were they good against the pass or not?
I don't yes or no?
Early what do you think?
I thought that they were ranked pretty low against.
Speaker 5No But what did you think that they were forget about the range?
Speaker 3Yeah, I thought that was the one little weekness.
Speaker 1I would agree with you.
Yeah, I would agree with you.
Speaker 7The numbers early on in the season were that, and then the schedule took hold, and now their past defense is rated much better because they played the Dylan Gabriels and the cam Wards and and those players.
Speaker 3So that's all you had to say.
Speaker 4Well that is what I said.
Speaker 5But I mean, like, just as a point of comparison, Drake May has had a pretty good year.
We all agree, Drake May, Yeah, pretty good, Key May.
I still don't know what that means, and if you would care to explain it to me that I'd be happy.
Speaker 1To take part.
Speaker 3I could be too completely wrong, but iff when they list the guy like if your nickname was Pep, this is Paul p P Parole.
Speaker 4This is Pro Football reference, not Ppah.
Speaker 3Yeah, and for Pro Football Reference and for Drake they had Drake Drake May May and as this as if Drake May was his nickname.
And now I don't know if it was a mistake.
Speaker 5This is not it, that's not it.
Speaker 1It happened.
Speaker 7This is yeah, because they put the nickname for all the players on their website exactly, but they didn't they do that as a reactive thing that they don't start the trend.
The trend is put on the website was.
Speaker 3A mistake and that started.
No.
Speaker 7No, I would give a little bit of credit to Drake May lover.
I think that that's probably where this all sort of started to originate.
But the whole gist of it is is that he's so good that he doesn't even need a nickname.
Speaker 4He's just Drake May, like.
Speaker 1We don't need.
Speaker 7I would say he was probably the one that started to popularize.
So the whole idea of the nickname is that is that he's so good we don't need to give him like some like you know, fugazi nickname.
Speaker 4He's just Drake May.
Okay, so he's Drake Drake May May.
Speaker 3I like that.
Speaker 5I'd like to have a nickname for Drake.
Speaker 1I would I don't know, you Drake, what it would be.
Speaker 4No, this is this is this is good.
It's good.
Speaker 5But just as a point of comparison, he's Drake, He's got twenty five touchdowns and eight picks, and the Patriots have allowed twenty four touchdowns and eight picks.
I would say that most everybody would say Drake May's having a really good year.
So those numbers would indicate the other team's quarterbacks are having a pretty good year.
You know.
Now that's just an average.
Obviously that's not one guy.
So you know, you may shut down, as Evan said, the Dylan Gabriels of the world, but I think when you faced some other guys you didn't fare quite as well.
Speaker 3Yeah, spiing Fresno, Who do you think is the best team in the league now?
And how much better are they than the Patriots?
And which is the better movie?
Bat Santa or Christmas Vacation Bad Santa?
Have you seen that?
That's a great movie?
A great movie, A movie.
I disagree.
Speaker 5I like Vacation, but that Santa is a very funny.
Speaker 1I agree.
I'd probably still say the Rams.
I know Seattle just beat them.
Speaker 5But I just I worry about Evans.
Speaker 1Guys, I would just.
Speaker 6Go on the quarterbacks, and I mean I think Seattle.
It's probably a corn flip between them, Seattle and the Rams right now, but.
Speaker 5Yeah, I think Seattle.
And it's funny because I think Seattle is the inside track to get the number one seed.
I think they'd the third best team in that division.
San Francisco has impressed me a little bit more this year than most because of the amount of injuries and turmoil they went through.
They did not look anything like what they look like right now in the middle of the season, and they just found a way to keep doing just enough to win games.
And now like it looks like Party's healthy, Kittle's healthy, you know, five touchdowns the other night.
The defense has got a whole bunch of guys that you don't really know.
They're starting to make plays.
I think San Francisco is one of those teams that no one's really talking about that I think could be a real threat.
Speaker 7It's like fun there's not a dominant team.
There's not one team that I would say I do like.
Speaker 1The team, as you guys all know.
Speaker 6Yeah know me too, me too, Spot.
But you know, if it's at the NFC championships in Seattle.
I think that might, you know, give Seattle a little bit of an edge Darnald play.
Speaker 5Yeah, I think either one of those teams could win in Seattle.
I don't think Seattle could win, you know, on the road.
Speaker 7Do you do have a concern that Darnold, just like last year, is going to turn back into a playoff Pumpkin And you don't have that same concern because Party has been to a Super Bowl and Stafford's won a Super Bowl.
So I get Paul's points, but yeah, Party has been probably the most efficient quarterback in the league.
When he's been healthy and been playing, He's been really good.
Speaker 5I would put Seattle on a list of teams that, like, you know, the most I mean the Patriots obviously, but the most surprising teams that you didn't really see coming, you know, I would say the Patriots.
Seattle would definitely be a couple of those.
Speaker 3But you know, by far, Bailey says, you guys aren't talking about the real reason players win MVPs.
I don't want to come off as snarky, but the reason josh one MVP over Lamar is seeding a top two seed has won it every year outside of one since at least twenty ten, maybe even further back.
It's been driving me crazy hearing you guys say Alan won it because he had less talent.
I think Allan deserved it either way, because he led his team to more victories by being more clutch.
So with all that being said, if we win a game versus the Dolphins or Jets and the Seahawks went out, Drake may is as good as a lock for MVP.
If we end up dropping to the three seed, I'll be a little more nervous with Lawrence's late season push, but I don't think he will drop.
Evan and Paul are my favorite on the pod, so I hope they respect my snarkiness and get mad about this, and don't get mad about this email.
Speaker 5I wouldn't get mad at I would just say I disagree.
Yeah, I would just say that.
Speaker 4You know, a lot of the people that vote for MVP explain publicly why they voted for MVP.
Speaker 5There were stories written about there's because last.
Speaker 7Year was a very very close and very contentious vote between Lamar and Josh Allen, and all the people that voted for Josh Allen is using the reasoning that Paul and I have brought up, which is that he had less around him than Lamar Jackson did.
Not this not that he had a better record.
Speaker 5Yeah, and I do appreciate the snark by the way.
I like the way he led into it, like let me tell you it was like the dirt diggler Mike, you know, let me tell you what you did wrong.
Speaker 1Let me show you what you did do wrong.
Speaker 5But I would just say, when you have an opinion, I wouldn't present it as fact, like let me tell you why, well your opinion that your opinion is, you know that one of the first two seeds.
If that was true, then why did Lamar win the first team all pro voted by the same people.
If Evan's not right about the differentiation being the MVP, they felt like the guy who did it with less.
Speaker 7I know a lot of Patriots fans are using this as a feather Drake May's cap, But I would say that this is a little bit of like correlation versus causation, Like obviously the guys that are gonna be nominated for MVPs are gonna be on the best teams, so like them being a one or two seed is just kind of a result of like they're having outstanding years and have their teams in now standing positions, So like, I don't know if that's necessarily like they are winning it because they were the number one seed or the number one seed because they're winning it.
Speaker 5In my opinion, if you're gonna talk about an MVP, like last year, Joe Burrow had an unbelievable season, but they went nine to eight and didn't make the playoffs, I can't go that far down to give an MVP.
But if you win fourteen games and this team wins thirteen games but gets the three seed, I'm sorry, I don't I'm gonna pick who I think had the better year, you know what I mean.
I mean, like you can make an argument Joe Burrow had a better year than anybody last year, or Jamar Chase, you know those kind of thing.
But but if you can't win enough games to at least make the playoffs, that's kind of like my.
Speaker 3Little MVP trivia.
There's been one m VP.
This is twenty ten.
That one without being a top two seed.
Speaker 1Who was it?
Speaker 3Hint it was a major storyline year for him.
Speaker 5Yeah, I have no idea because I don't remember Adrian Peterson.
Speaker 1I don't remember all.
Speaker 5The seeds, like I don't remember all the different seeds, you know.
Speaker 3Right back to the phones we go and it is Dan in New Jersey.
What's up Dan?
Speaker 11A happy holiday?
Sellas you're talking about movies kind of underrated, but I really like it.
I look forward to watching every year.
And that's Family Man with Nicholas Cage.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, I think I know that movie.
Speaker 11Yeah, twist on.
It's a wonderful life.
They's kind of a full of themselves kind of Wall Street, you know, hip Howard mergers and acquisition guy, and he gets the chance to live and see his life as if he were a tire salesman in New Jersey, which I relate to.
Speaker 3You sell tires.
Speaker 11I don't still tires, Mike.
Speaker 3What are you thinking of run flats?
Speaker 16Yeah?
Speaker 1They're available time.
Speaker 3Yeah.
Speaker 11But I just want to say I had the best Christmas present this year already.
I got a twelve and three.
Doesn't matter what.
I'm going to the game on Sunday, looking forward to it.
I'm undefeated at mett Les and my wife's become a big fan over the last few years.
So we're just looking forward to nice enjoying our Christs with a playoffs down team.
Speaker 3And I think you might be also with a lot of Patriots fans.
Speaker 4I'm sorry that that's the stadium you have to go to.
Speaker 3Thanks, Dan, appreciate the call.
Jean right Sinuh.
I'm disappointed that Paul does not know that the nineteen sixty four Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer reindeer movie, the clay mation movie.
Speaker 1Uh, is the.
Speaker 3Original just do your job motivational movie that inspired Bill Belichick.
I think he didn't that one really on a Friday or something.
Yeah, yeah, what's.
Speaker 1The what's the idea?
Speaker 4The like war?
General guy?
Yeah, yeah, it's war.
Speaker 1And well there's another.
Speaker 6One of your anonymous reports by Adam Shift.
Speaker 5I get to think that Adam and then all of a sudden he changed his tone.
Is that what I told him?
Speaker 3Oh?
Speaker 1Sorry?
Speaker 3Should I read a Night Before Christmas poem by Steve Sure that he writes in every year?
Speaker 1Is it Steve or Dan?
Speaker 17No?
Speaker 3This is from Steve, the original from Marblehead.
Speaker 5This is a new one then, because Dan Dan writes the Christmas pone the PF Steve.
I don't know, but I'll more than to see if Steve can not.
Speaker 3Okay, all right, let's go, because you know we gotta hurry.
Twas the night before Christmas in the AFC East, where the Jets, Bills, and Dolphins all feared a new beast.
The Jets had been confident, with a good reason.
Twelve years in a row we have won the offseason.
The Dolphins' concerns have never been fewer until the game started, and yeah, we got Tua.
The Bills were all snuggled in bed with good cheer until the billboard arows, we'll take it from here.
That's a good one.
The Pats had a goal, we will beat the bad teams.
The schedule complied with more than in our dreams.
We shut down the backs and receivers with glee.
Eldred is stubborn.
He still wants a d We rattled off ten wins in a row, then a loss.
We sure showed the league who's now the boss.
But Christian called in all weeping and crying.
Our teams are fraud.
They were a paper lion.
After each game.
Evan gives good ride up, but when coach called his name, he couldn't stand up.
In preseason games, film Paul's a film star, but forget the red Rider, Paul wants a new car.
Deuce knows the defense, but never the spread.
All of his entry songs got to his head.
No Tuesdays or Wednesdays, She'd only get bored.
Hey did Alex mention she won an award.
He's got big ideas, he's making big deals.
He's winning the picks because Freddy got feels.
The fans and the callers will want you to know.
All we want for Christmas is a fourth weekly show.
You know what I'm gonna do.
I'm gonna I'm going to forward this to Alex so that she can include it in the newsletter.
Speaker 4That was very well done.
Speaker 3And by the way, if you don't get the newsletter, you should.
You can do it by going to uh, what is it?
Patriots coms slash newsletter.
I don't even know what it is now, Google newsletter, Google it.
Speaker 5I don't know it just comes to my email.
Speaker 4Google it for the weekly roast of me.
Speaker 3Yeah, but good good job, Steven, very good good job.
And you know what he did he bolded where I should put the accent.
Actually really wanted me to make sure that I got it right.
Speaker 1Dar used to do this.
Speaker 5Shout out to Shane in the middle of everyone, and Shane hadn't worked there in like fifteen years.
I'd be like, shout out, Shane, stop Shane, like it would stop in the middle.
Speaker 3Good stuff.
Let's get back to the phones.
I don't know, should I?
Yeah, it's Christian Christ's Christmas?
What's that Christion question?
Speaker 2Well, because Christmas, guys.
Yeah, No, nothing to go, nothing to you guys about it isn't It's the time to say thank you, guys for a year of content.
Thank you guys for the time you guys spin away from your families so that you can put on a show so that we stand them.
Speaker 3Can all right, you're gonna make it listen.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah, I'm a little uh, I got the Christmas cold like everybody else.
Speaker 5You have consumption, but we need you at one hundred percent for the playoffs.
Christian, rest up, I know you do.
Speaker 1Man.
Speaker 2Ups and down for everybody right in the year ups and downs to me, my company wait for me got chosen as best international startup of the year, and then past you know, uh so then that happens so well, and then that happens and so it's like up and down.
That's how the year goes.
And that's how this this sport goes.
And you guys guide us through from the fans that are just dejected every single loss to the fans that think every wind means that we have the dynasty back.
You guys guide us through and you and you're funny and you're nice and you're warm, and you connect us all and you make us all out here on the phone feel like we're in the booth.
We you guys agree together.
So happy to leave it to you guys.
Thank you guys, and for all you do, Beverly's do and Christian in La they go pack and we really really dig you guys.
Speaker 3Thank you all right, Thanks a Christmas.
Speaker 5Thanks for your loyalty.
Speaker 3Christian in La.
Speaker 4I'm surprised at how nice that was.
Speaker 6You need all these characters on this show, right'll bring something.
Speaker 3God bless everyone.
Speaker 17Reindeer had some real explosive plays and if we saw his own defense, we knew that it was going to give us the best ability to get the ball down the field.
Understood our opponents might have some difficulty with that.
Speaker 6That was Friday.
Speaker 1That was a Friday with Bill.
Speaker 6I said that that's all they came up when I googled Bill Belichick.
Rudolf the Redden's reindeer was the family guy, him him doing that for that?
Claire, Hello everyone, Illomer and Christmas is coming to Claire.
Speaker 3She just wants to send a warm Christmas us the pond.
Thanks for the great year.
Pat's win or lose.
You all make a Patriots fan being a Patriots fan awesome than you.
Speaker 1Is it clear?
Is it still Father Christmas?
Speaker 3Over there?
Speaker 1Not Santa?
Speaker 3Chris Kringle, Chris Kringle, Christmas st Nick?
Yeah, back to the phone.
Let's see you gotta follow up?
Christian Sam in North Carolina?
What's up?
Sam?
Speaker 1Sam?
Speaker 9Hey, how about the Drake maybe nickname?
I think I got the meaning for it because I hated it before I came up with my own meaning.
But the kid is so nice.
You got to see his name twice, and I came up with that.
I stay in love with the nickname myself.
Speaker 3Okay, he's so nice, you gotta say it twice.
Speaker 13Damn right?
Speaker 3Okay, gotcha, all right?
Thanks Sam?
Merry Christmas.
Bill's an Albuquerque, Hey.
Speaker 14Bill, Mexican, good afternoon.
Speaker 3Hey.
Yes, Hey, the one.
Speaker 14Movie you guys haven't mentioned, which is uh drastically underwatched is The Ref with Kevin Spacey, fellow Emerson graduate Judy Davis and pre rape.
Oh no, not Dennis Leary.
It's Leary.
Sorry, I got the names.
And it's called The Ref and it takes place at Christmas.
Kevin Spacey's a burglar and he takes Judy Davis and I'm sorry, I'm in the middle of I'm in the middle of doing something else at the same time, putting up luminar.
Speaker 5I don't know this movie.
Speaker 3I've heard of it, but I don't think i've seen it.
Speaker 14God, dang funny.
Kevin Spacey and Judy Davis fight all the time, and uh, Dennis Leary's taking them hostage at Christmas because he can't get out of the town.
And I swear to God.
Speaker 15You guys love.
Speaker 14It takes place in Connecticut, so it's New England, d and internet.
Speaker 10My wife is from connect I know, I know, Connects kind of.
Speaker 1Divided.
Speaker 14But you know, it's Christmas.
Speaker 5It's Christmas, Christmas.
Speaker 1That's good, that's good.
I don't think i've seen it.
I don't think.
I don't familiar with it.
Speaker 5I definitely don't know the movie Deuce.
Can you know you can?
Speaker 14It's criminally underwater.
Speaker 3Okay, the rest I have to look.
Speaker 4It's probably hard to find because.
Speaker 3Didn't he get let off of all those tracks?
Speaker 5His career kind of ended.
Speaker 3His career ended, But I thought he got off.
Speaker 1Did you ever see him around trying?
Can you know?
Speaker 5As only you can't?
And I'm sure you can explain.
Judy Davis, I don't know that one.
Speaker 4I don't know what you're talking about, Judy Dent, hold on, it's a different.
Speaker 3Pain, Judy Dent.
Speaker 5Yeah, I know who that is.
Yeah, yeah, Judy Davis David.
Speaker 1Sure I know who that is.
Speaker 3Yeah, she's been around.
Speaker 5I'm sure she's fame.
Speaker 1I mean, yeah, she's seventy.
Speaker 6I'm like the Dressmaker Mystery Husbands.
Speaker 1And I haven't seen any of these Barton.
Speaker 5I think if dust Barton, if Deuce didn't know who she was the route without looking up IMDb, then I feel better.
Speaker 6No, not a lot of these movies I've seen.
I'm not surprised that Absolute Power.
I did see, though, Clint Eastwood, I think that was a president assassination movie.
Speaker 3I saw that was one of the Cohen brother movies.
Speaker 6Yeah, yeah, yeah, Now I haven't seen any of these movies that she's been in so you.
Speaker 5Know, sorry the ref I've never not familiar with it.
Speaker 3Aaron and Port Jarvis, New York.
He says, this is the game I'm calling it now.
Efton Ladarius Chisholm, the third, three hundred and fifty receiving yards, nine touchdowns.
We've been saving them all year for this moment.
Speaker 5He might play.
Speaker 1He could play.
It was the new guy.
Speaker 3No, sorry, the new guy.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 6Well, they signed Michel to the practice squad, who has uh played a little running back in the league.
I don't think that's a great sign for Traveon Henderson's availability.
And then they opped Brendan Himus as well, so I don't know if that's great.
Speaker 1Jared Wilson too.
Speaker 5But with booty and booty and protocol and Douglas did not play much with the hamstring issue, you you could get this is what you.
Speaker 1Need, like he gets in the season.
It's wins and MACS.
Speaker 5Elements.
This is a preseason game.
This is very shine.
Speaker 4That's so true.
Speaker 1The other team is not going to play for.
Speaker 4Yeah, that's true.
It's basically no.
Speaker 1Ability and don't forget that, no ability to play for.
Speaker 3Let's just say he did play and he had a great game, good for him?
Would they carry would you consider no taking time away from Pop Douglas?
No?
Speaker 5Okay, but more importantly, they wouldn't either.
Speaker 7I mean, like, if you had like ten catches for one hundred and fifty yards and was just like unbelievable.
Speaker 5That's what I don't I don't think he would take anyone's job if they were healthy, even if he did that in this in this particular game.
Okay, Now, if he had done that, say six weeks ago, and then you know you're looking at like maybe we could give this guy another look or whatever, I just don't think in this game, okay, it would be considered.
Speaker 1Look you what you're thinking?
You know what I mean.
Speaker 3Franklin and Baltimore and the event Papa Myers is listening.
I just want to say that I'm happy for Jacoby.
We've got his extension with the Jaguars.
Still miss him being on the team.
We do too.
I'll also extend the Merry Christmas to the PU crew and hope that Santa left Paul a car size shape gift near his house so we can stop cheating on us.
PU faithful.
Speaker 4I don't think it's going to happen a little Carvana delivery.
Speaker 1It's going to happen.
Speaker 4No, don't put that.
Speaker 3No lessis bow and no bow no.
Speaker 17Boo.
Speaker 1Yeah, that's think.
Speaker 3That's a lot of work to be able to buy a car, keep it secret, have it there on Christmas.
Speaker 5That sounds like it's unrealistic.
Speaker 1Yeah, I just I just got a good Saturday and linfe sketch.
Speaker 6I hadn't seen it from a few years ago, but they set that up that like the husband buys the wife of car and then she freaks out.
Speaker 1Because like, we can't afford this.
He has no idea.
No, I did, like two thousand dollars down.
She's like, yeah, down, we have a monthly basic what.
Yeah, it's good.
It's a good one.
Speaker 3Joe writes in in Michigan.
I think the Patriots will have a very tough game versus the page the Jets Patriots twenty four just twenty one.
Defense is real concern for the Patriots.
Had Ravens rode the running game with their lead.
I don't think the Patriots win oc for Ravens or HC must have the peak Carrol syndrome.
Speaker 5I agree about the Baltimore game, but there's no comparison in talent.
I don't think the Jets are capable of doing that.
Speaker 1No.
Speaker 7Yeah, even like their run game has some like infrastructure things that are nice with like Breese Hall and their offensive line, and their numbers are still terrible.
Like you know, you look at it on paper and you're like, oh, they could probably run the ball a little bit.
Speaker 4They're like twenty fourth in the EPA.
Speaker 7Like it's like it's like the best part of their team, you know it, but it's still.
Speaker 5Not a solid player.
But did he even play?
Speaker 16He?
Speaker 5Like, am I miss?
Is my timeline off?
Like did he even play last week?
Speaker 3Yeah?
Speaker 1He did?
Speaker 5He came back, Okay, so maybe he plays.
I don't know, maybe he breaks a long run.
He's not really over.
Speaker 1The sixteen carries for fifty.
Speaker 5Four, okay, so he's healthy enough.
Speaker 7That's the one thing is he you know, there are some they do have some explosive runs on tape.
You know, they think he's eleventh and explosive runs this year Breese Hall.
So it's not like great, but the numbers say that.
That's the one area of their team that's not bottom of the league.
Is their run game.
Speaker 5Have a modicum of focus.
Like I'll give you the Thursday night game.
Let's go to the Thursday night game.
Don't allow ad Mitchell to run by you, Christian Gonzales, because maybe he'll catch it this time.
Yeah right, you know that's the only way they're going to score is those kinds of plays if you have a lapse in concentration.
Speaker 11You know.
Speaker 5I mentioned I saw something this week that your boy Shats had.
The Jets special teams EA is like historical.
Yeah, one of the it's like the third best special team season of all times they've had.
Speaker 4They have a really good returner who I'm baking on his name right now, but will Yeah, but they they've had some good returns.
Speaker 7They had one game earlier this year.
One of their three wins where I think they had two is right before they played the Patriots in Week eleven.
Speaker 5Yeah, I think it's Isaiah Williams.
I'm not sure he's the good punt returner with two punt return for touchdowns.
And then I don't know how to pronounce the name is is it Woghu has a kickoff return?
Speaker 7Yeah, So I think that that was the one of their three wins.
I think it was the week right before they played the Patriots on a week eleven, they had a I think it's a punt and a kickoff return touchdown in the same leave and that's how they won the game.
Speaker 4So that's it.
Speaker 1That's the formula.
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 4The the head coach.
Speaker 5Have some focus and you should be able to keep that.
You know that team at back.
Speaker 3Audrey and New Hampshire says, oh yeah, gosh, miss Molly.
Shoot, we absolutely must change the pix order next year.
Mike can't be this bad at picks and now he's just accepting it as truth.
Let's have mister Sharp, Pauly p Goo first.
Speaker 1Okay, then try to keep that in mind.
Speaker 3Then Evan Alex, Mike and King Freddy last, because he's the boss that still goes around the deck seating.
Give Deuce a chance to hear a bit more about the matchups.
If after this change he's still lasting the picks and sneaky negative, then fine, shake.
Speaker 5It up, fred a new year of big week for Mike.
He did not finish under five hundred with a spread.
Speaker 1Yeah, well, I appreciate the support.
Audrey.
Speaker 6You're right, I have kind of accepted at this point.
Speaker 5But you know, we'll get to this in about twenty minutes, Fred, but the wiley veteran asserted his dominance.
No, oh, oh curse, you know the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 1Yeah right, he heard it.
Speaker 5No, he heard the footsteps takes up the pace.
And he responded, according, right.
Speaker 3Oh okay, like it like that.
I can't wait to hear I figured because Alex asked me, would the other are you know Alex Francisco be here today?
Though, depends on how she did in the pick.
If she did well, she'll be She.
Speaker 1Had she had a drum up a Romandree interview real quick.
Speaker 5She said she had a really good human interest story that she's working on.
And I said, well, I'm neither human nor interested.
Speaker 1Peace.
So I'll see uh.
Speaker 3El from Wisconsin.
Speaker 9Uh.
Speaker 3Last week was tough, he says.
The loss against Buffalo caused everyone all week to talk about Drake coming back and playing in the cold.
Speaker 1Please no more.
Speaker 3I can't take any more of that mind numbingly stupid talk.
Okay, you know the whole thing about you know, he needs to come prove that he can play in the needs to prove that he can come back.
Speaker 5So you don't think that they did anything.
Sunday against Baltimore.
That doesn't do it that.
Speaker 3He was already convinced he didn't need that.
Speaker 5Well, but that, but you didn't like to see it.
He I mean, it doesn't matter if you.
Speaker 3It wasn't about the game, he thought.
Speaker 5I just thought it was cold Sunday night in Baltimore from behind.
I think that was kind of interesting.
Speaker 3I think so too, And I think he did right.
Speaker 5So I thought it was interesting the week before too, when it was cold and they were losing and they didn't come from behind.
Speaker 1It that's the day.
Speaker 3He's just talking about the talk.
Speaker 5I find I find the actual analysis of the games to be interesting.
Speaker 3So we do Wow, that's what we do.
Speaker 1That's we do.
Speaker 5I don't just pick and choose the analysis of the games that I liked the way they finished el Wisconsin.
Speaker 3You've been scolded, no, I just like your pants have been pulled down and you've been space.
Speaker 5It's not a mind nothing stupid, audience.
It's not a mind numbingly stupid argument to say that he had a great comeback against Baltimore.
That's not mind numbingly stupid.
Speaker 3Sorry, if you want to counter, the floor is yours.
Speaker 5You didn't hear what I said.
What the comeback against Baltimore and you know, on the road in the cold was not mind numbingly stupid to talk about and be excited about.
Right, But I'll bet you he doesn't think it is either.
Speaker 1Would you point?
Would you?
Speaker 3Would you say it?
Speaker 5The only the only that was done was because they lost?
Speaker 8Hold on?
Speaker 3Would you?
Did you say it's dumb to say after the Baltimore game he's going to do this every time?
Speaker 8Now?
Speaker 1Yes, yeah, that's dumb.
Speaker 5Yeah, and the people aren't doing that.
Speaker 3And he thought the other side of the argument was dumb.
He can't do it, yeah, because he hasn't done it.
Speaker 5No, but Patriots fans will say that that, see, he can do it.
It's over.
We got a lot of that in the postgame show.
Speaker 3Right, and he would I would imagine L might think.
Speaker 5Oh no, no, I'm going to say that L thinks that's great.
He's silenced everything.
Speaker 3All right, Well, all right, well maybe i'll.
Speaker 5Because the only thing that was stupid about the argument was.
Speaker 1That they lost.
Speaker 3Okay, I'll let it call it for.
Speaker 1What it was.
Speaker 5A great email.
I'm not picking on that this you are, No, I'm not, because this is what this is.
I think a typical response right now from Patriots fans, why are they talking about?
And Fred dealt with this during the game, people would jumping the ship, right people.
People were really upset about it.
So was it really that dumb?
Like there were a lot of people that were talking about in analyzing things, and then they came and they made a comeback and Drake silenced the critics.
I think that's relevant, Okay, I do now, at least for a week, he silenced the critics.
I don't know, Like like Felger always says, you know, one of the few things that he says that I actually find interest.
I don't know what's going to happen in the future.
I don't know what's like.
I can't see the future like everybody else, Like Patriots fans know exactly what's going to happen.
I can't.
I don't know what's going to happen.
Otherwise I would stop working here and I would bet all the games and that would be my job.
But I don't know what's going to happen.
Speaker 3Do you, yes?
I do.
I have a feel for the lending.
Speaker 5Okay, so can you tell me, yes, what's going to happen?
Speaker 3What do you want to know.
Speaker 5I want to know if the Patriots are going to win the Super Bowl.
Probably not, okay, I'll look unclear, Probably not, it's not that's I'm not that doesn't really read it me now rereading.
Yeah, that's what I'm looking for morel Thank you.
Speaker 3Uh Fred ask Evan.
If the A gap is next to the B gap, also, if the B gap is next to the C gap.
One more thing.
Is the C gap minus the B gap equal A gap.
Thanks for your anticipated cooperation.
Speaker 1A gap squared plus the B gap square.
Speaker 3If A equal C and B equals A, does A equal.
Speaker 1C Pythagorean theorem?
Yeah?
Speaker 3Transitive, yeah, one technique er I was.
I was no surprise.
I was really bad at that logic course in college.
Speaker 1Oh really yeah, I was pretty good at logic.
Speaker 3I was okay like the first few weeks and then I just lost interest.
Speaker 5Had you and I logic?
Speaker 3Yeah?
Speaker 1Is that like two trains leave for going these speeds?
A question?
Yeah?
Speaker 3There was more in depth, like than like it started with the transitive stuff, which okay, I get that, but then it really complicated and I was like I'm out there.
Yeah yeah, not for me.
Speaker 5Not exactly a mathematical genius, which is why thirteen accord with English.
Speaker 6Guy, you must have done good in English, like English SATs that stuff.
Speaker 3Ish is you know, I actually get better in math on my SATs than I did English.
Yeah, me too, well, most most people do.
Really Yeah, because I'm not in class.
Speaker 5I didn't.
I did better in English, but because I'm that bad at math, but most people do better at math, I think.
Speaker 3Yeah, no, but classes checking my grades in math were not as good as otherwise.
Speaker 1I don't know.
Speaker 6I mean, you know, with my son who's taken like all these advanced classes, like some of the kids get like like I would get to the end of those tests and I'm like, I haven't taken this yet, but like he has been in advanced class, so he's taken it, so he knows what he's doing, you know.
So sometimes I feel like you're set up to fail with some of that stuff.
Anyway, But like the analogies and all that stuff.
Speaker 3I barely made geometry.
Speaker 1Oh, I was great at geometry.
Speaker 5See that was the only one.
Like the algebra stuff I couldn't do Trigg Calculus, I really struggled.
But geometry was the only one that I was reasonably And you know what.
Speaker 3I blame it because I think I have an aptitude for I had bad teachers.
Speaker 1Yeah, math, I.
Speaker 3Think your teachers make all the difference in the world in math, it really does.
Speaker 5I blame it on the teacher.
I do love it.
Speaker 1I do I love it.
Speaker 3I think there's some teachers that they can explain it, like Bill Belichick, like he can break it down for you and so you can understand it.
And I think a lot of teachers when it comes to math, can't do that.
Speaker 6I agree one hundred percent.
And geometry was a prime example for me of that.
And I really liked the teacher.
His name was mister Ron Poscis.
If he's still out there.
I emailed him at some point as an adult to thank him.
Speaker 1But loved the.
Speaker 6Guy and just super funny, made it fun.
And I had like a bad first test grade and I was so disappointed and letting him down that it was like a switch went off and I just started flashcards and.
Speaker 1He will wear this geometry.
But he was funny teacher.
Speaker 6Some of his favorite junior year, some of his he didn't, but he had great ones like look it up in your funking wagonoles Like he'd yell that at you if you didn't know somebody to flip it over and do it on your backside, you know, Like he.
Speaker 1Just was funny.
He got high school humor.
Speaker 6And it was also one of the classes where I remember he was making a joke and everyone in the class.
Speaker 1Was laughing and I farted.
Speaker 6And like the whole class everybody heard it, but everybody just kept laughing anyway, Like I wasn't even that embarrassed because everybody was already laughing anyway.
But he was a great teacher, and I always think of that teacher and didn't.
Speaker 3Do anything specific besides humor that they made you understand.
Speaker 6Well, I don't know that's a good Like we used to do a thing called pick a quiz where you literally, like in geometry, you know you have to know like all the different proofs and stuff, and you know, what is this rule And he'd go around you'd have to pick one out of the hat and like the pressure beyond.
So I don't know if I mean, he definitely just made me want to work harder for him, So I don't know if it's I mean, I remember.
Speaker 5When I went on deductive Proof, I just got I love I loved.
Speaker 3Him when I finally figured out algebra, like like it was a light bulb that went off and it became really easy.
But it had nothing to do with what the teacher was teaching.
Speaker 5You how every kid in my class felt and I was the one that just didn't get it.
Yeah, And when we got to algebra two, it was like why am I bother what?
I couldn't do it in Aldred And you know I.
Speaker 1Took in the eighth grade.
Do you take college Matt, Like, I got to college math and I'm like, this is not for me.
Speaker 5So I had I had to take two maths sciences and those you know, I didn't really love either one.
Because I was a journal as a major, I didn't have to do a lot of that.
I took a stats class thinking, you know, you know me that I'm a geek, I can do.
Speaker 1I got about.
Speaker 5Halfway through the semester I was I was rocking it, okay, And then the last half of the semester I was like this.
I was like trying to run the clock out, like I was handing the ball off, you know, we got to keep the clock running here.
Speaker 1And I just made it with like a B minus or something.
Speaker 3Speaking to Dennis Larry.
He was one of my professors at Emerson.
No really, he taught it was comedy right else, Oh yeah, that's punk class.
Speaker 6I actually in grad school.
The only is in grad school is grad school.
But it was the only B plus I got was in comedy writing, which was like the thing.
Everything else a's because it's easy.
Speaker 5So what do they what do they teach you?
Speaker 1Like, typically comedy writing?
Speaker 3Yeah, concept, So they would usually present you with like a topic or you know, some type of thing and then you'd have everyone would have to write off of that.
Speaker 1Yeah, we did some of that.
Speaker 6I mean mine was in you know, in television production, so we had to write a sitcom script.
So I was learning about you know, comic beats and all that kind of stuff.
The rule of three is a big one in comedy, like those kind of things.
Speaker 1But I wrote a just shoot me specs script episode.
So what's the rule of three?
Like they're like always repeating it's set up, set.
Speaker 6Up big, yeah, like you know or you know, when you do callbacks too, we talk about just comedic devices.
Like I don't remember all of it, but but it still pops up sometimes and you you know, like three everything is three.
Speaker 1It's a good thing.
Speaker 5You don't get the Santa from the Rootolph, you'd like write out a whole script and you'd say then be like needs work, not funny.
Speaker 3Right, Where's where's rabel mat any any word from him?
Speaker 6His hands are up either.
I will say last night we were think they ran a little late.
Speaker 1Last night.
Speaker 6We were supposed to interview I was, I think we'll run it at halftime here I interviewed Vidarian Low.
But they were good forty five minutes an hour behind when they thought they were.
Speaker 1So maybe things are little taking a little extra time.
Make sure you hammer the jetsys.
Speaker 3Uh chatted Atlanta Rights and so.
Marlon Humphreyes just said on a podcast regarding the uncalled PI against Booty quote, I honestly feel like I did tackle the bro.
I'm pretty sure that should have been a PI, but they didn't call it.
So I will take it where we take it.
That being said, when Paul mentions investigations into refereeing, what would that consist of, I'm curious.
I'm not familiar with the league's method on that.
There would never be an.
Speaker 5Investigation, Yeah, not unless they Okay, here's.
Speaker 8Mike, I'm not doing this tomorrow.
You're right, we're not, but thank you.
Speaker 3Yesterday we tapped Garrett good Guy Award winner.
Speaker 4I've he been a good guy for.
Speaker 8You Yeah, yeah, great.
Speaker 18You know, I mean a lot of additions in the offseason and Garrett was one of them.
And he's he's been out there in the middle of our offense and helps coordinate everything that we do with the line of scrimmage.
You know, he's brought a lot of experience, brought a lot of knowledge and you know, so again it has really helped us and you know, we got hopefully a lot of football left the play and you know, it's a great honor for him, you know, to be able to represent our football team to you guys and in a positive way.
So the disappointed I didn't win that in my eight years here, Mike, how.
Speaker 16What is this week for the for you as as a football team, but also on and off the field with the players and their families.
Speaker 8And what they come over to.
Speaker 18It's just always a balance of you know that we wage in these these holidays with Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, trying to have a balance of getting the work done that we need, trying to focus on what's important here at work and practice in and then and when that wraps up and we're done and being able to compartmentalize and go and be with family and the people that come in and that have helped our players, our coaches, and our staff get to where they are.
Speaker 8None of us did this on our own.
Speaker 18There's a lot of people that have helped us get here as made sacrifices, and so anytime that we can have to spend with them on important days, I'm all for it.
But then the most importantly is what we do on the field, Like you said on Sunday, there's a lot.
Speaker 1Of cricks in there and make an impact as a way, the.
Speaker 8Whole lot of experience one, I mean Craig.
Craig was in college for a while.
Speaker 18We joke about it, but you know, he's that's he's started and played a lot of games, seen a lot of football.
But I think he's continued to learn and none of stand and develop and it's gotten better each day and he's been durable and available.
And you know, the more that you're out there, the usually the better that you get.
Speaker 5What made him the game captain, Like, what was the thought process before we had felt that he wasn't.
Speaker 3No, he was.
Speaker 8You've been tracking.
Speaker 18He's pretty close to Mike and you've been on him.
You know, it was our first you know, we had gone through most everybody and you know there's other options, I think, obviously, but just trying to I thought it was the right time with Craig and you know the amount of snaps that he's played for us and what he's done, and you just trying to continue to build the young players on this roster, whether that's on the field and or developmental or a leadership role or whatever.
Speaker 8That may be.
I guess that was just the idea.
Speaker 3Robert was out last week.
Speaker 1Do you expect him to practice at all the sweet information.
Speaker 18I don't unless we get a Christmas miracle, Tony tim starts walking or something.
Speaker 12Christian Gazalis mentioned that very early on you talked about winning the division.
Why was it important to express that, you know, to the group, put that out there early in your tenure.
Speaker 18I think when just to make sure that everybody understood what the expectations were.
That there's a lot of ways to win football games in this league, and with a lot of different players and a lot of different lineups and a lot of different schemes and however we need to do to win football games.
But that was going to be the goal.
And making sure that they all understood that, making sure that they they knew that this was the priority.
And that's what we've tried to do.
Now we haven't done it, you know, we still have opportunities to do it, but just making sure.
But I understood what the expectations were.
Speaker 8Artist is ready to take the bigger whifload.
Speaker 18Yeah, I mean again, we'll take him off the field and then somebody else will.
Speaker 8You know, well, this guy's not getting at it, you know.
Speaker 18I mean, we we only got one football so we'll try to you know, but he is prepared.
It was unfortunate his first week that he busted his tail to get in there on that Thursday night game and we handed to him huge run, questionable holding call, and you know, he had some other plays in that first game.
And I actually joked with him yesterday, I said, hopefully, I mean, you know, if you get in there, we rip a couple of runs off there, you make a couple of plays that they don't get called back.
And you know, he was laughing, but he's done nothing but come in and be a professional and learn and be ready to go, and I know that when his opportunity comes, he'll take advantage of it.
Speaker 19Coach, talk about their Mumford and the job he's done in your six on line packages coming in.
You've been doing a lot more of that this season with that twenty two rhinal stuff.
Just talk about him and what he's brought to the team.
Speaker 8Hear that, Sophie about scared me up there?
Speaker 20Yet?
Speaker 8Do you hear that?
Get you to get that tenor.
Speaker 6There you go?
Speaker 8There you go, don't do that.
Speaker 18I saw a different there, I think than the one that left here, and again.
Speaker 8I havn't spent time in another team.
Came here and I think it.
Speaker 18Was okay, and then getting claimed by Cleveland coming back, I think we all, including Fayer, saw a different version of him, one that was much more prepared, ready to go physically and has done that role before.
It's helped us hopefully, and you know, go weather and play tackle or post spots.
Speaker 8On the offensive line.
Speaker 18So I think we've just seen a different version if they are, and I think he's trying to take advantage of his opportunities.
Speaker 1What stands out to you from the Jets play style and where they'll.
Speaker 18Challenge you well up front.
I really enjoy watching their offensive line.
I think it's a it's a good group.
It's a very young and talented group.
On the outside, it's a I love the play demeanor of the guys inside with Myers and tipped in and uh Simpson and they they they come off the ball.
They they're good in their combinations.
So they really allow you know, most their runners but mostly Briest to you know, get going.
There's not a whole lot of first contact and he's able to.
You know, the average is over four point two yards of carry.
So I think that, you know, I like that group.
Just you know, they moved this last time they ran a football against us.
The recipe for winning is not going to be to run for sixty five yards and give up one hundred and forty yards on the ground.
I've told the team that multiple times.
So Athletic defense young, playing some young guys obviously with McDonald and and him continuing to get better and his length and Jermaine Johnson and you know Briggs and then obviously Phillips is the studying case.
And their linebackers are fast.
They run their fourth tackle for lost percentage.
So if you don't come off on them, or you know, you don't, you don't get somebody up to him, they're going to make the tackle and they're gonna gonna be there in a hurry.
So you know, we'll have to we'll have to do a great job of trying to get somebody on those linebackers.
Speaker 1I know he's had a or he had else starting to the regular season.
Speaker 9Both people from impressed you the most about being the way he's kind of settled the job.
Speaker 18I just, you know, he's done a nice job.
He's you know, in accurate.
I think that he's kept a good demeanor.
I think he's practiced well as far as just mentally and then talking about the weather and you know, finding you know, whatever that is.
You know, Tom's coach kickers and all different climates, but I haven't and I said, so whatever the plan is to prepare to kick in the weather and all these different things.
Speaker 8That he's trying to do or has done.
Speaker 18And you know, I just think he's got a pretty steadying demeanor and has work to improve and the consistency, you know, with his approach and all those other things.
Speaker 16Micha Romano was saying that he maybe enjoyed a blitz pick up in the series before the final series more than the twenty one yard touchdown run.
Hows that made you feel as a coach when you hear the running backs talking like that.
Speaker 8Well, they have a critical job.
Speaker 18And I you know, anybody, not anybody, but most players in the league, if you hand it off and there's a hole, they're going to score.
But very few can one handle the mental challenge of what the protection is and and what the scan is.
And you know, I've got will to week safety or I've got you know, whoever you have, and being able to some of these presentations that the defenses present.
You know, you may be up in the line of scrimmage and have to get back out and be able to block somebody and then physically being able to do it and stand up to them and block them and stop their charge and not drop your head and all these different things.
And so I think that that is a something that he does very well.
And again, when your best players the quarterback, it's important that you protect them.
So I appreciate that, but I don't that doesn't surprise me.
Speaker 3Their kickoff, Come on, you just got right you, come on, what do you see from their kickoff?
Speaker 8Come onicle?
Speaker 11A couple of.
Speaker 1A couple of coaches and quarterbacks have weighed in on the merits of pure progression passing against coverage.
Speaker 19Reads sort of where do you.
Speaker 18The guy that's open in the progression and where that progression takes you?
The first one that you see that usually leads to positive yards.
Speaker 8It limits negative plays.
Obviously, there's times.
Speaker 18Where we're gonna have to hold the ball, move guys down the field and progress.
So I try to keep it as simple as possible, because I think that holding the ball in this league just leads to turnovers, to sacks, to longer yardage, and the more that the quarterback gets hit, the more negative things have a chance to happen.
Turnovers, you know, all the other obvious things.
Speaker 8Sorry, God, did kickoff for turns for the Jets?
Speaker 4They get leave the league.
Speaker 11Get kickoff?
Speaker 4Return to average is what are you seeing from them on.
Speaker 18That great scheme?
Excellent players, very good returners.
We'll have to cover with a purpose this week.
And you know obvious the you know one running a running back that really runs through arm tackles and has a good job.
Speaker 8He's done a great job of doing that.
Speaker 18Mitchell obviously he's great putt returner, but those skills have translated over to the kickoff returns.
So as much as they kick away from you know, the nay that they now Mitchell's getting a lot of those or Williams is getting.
Speaker 19A lot of those.
Speaker 18So we'll have to make sure that we're good that the space is limited and again one guy is probably not going to be able to do it.
Speaker 8And get them down.
Speaker 18And that's been Special teams has been a very very strong point for these guys.
Fake to punt, you know, the kickof the putt returns has been a weapon.
And you know fourteen yard average, you know, two touchdowns, one called back.
So this is these are making sure that we're matching everything that they do from a special team standpoint critical phase.
But thank you guys and Mary Kraus stress, I appreciate everything you guys do.
Speaker 9Keep it.
Speaker 1Tell you guys, watch what happened all right?
Yes?
Speaker 6Uh, your performance, you know the performance like sexual excuse me, Willy are you saying or something?
Speaker 13Roll in my gear?
Speaker 1So what you're saying to me, I'm sorry you're gear, Willie my stick.
Speaker 6He's not going to say the stick in front of the children.
Speaker 4Does he hey our friend that we were just talking about before we went I'm there.
Marcopello already posted on Instagram.
Speaker 12Get the tree down, that's over, Take the lights off.
Speaker 20Turn I'm gravy and I'm graeve about you whatever you want you.
Speaker 3I want to thank you all for doing shows Tuesday and today.
Most podcasts are putting out nothing, what or best of shows.
The radio was putting their c team out there no offense.
Paul as someone who has.
Speaker 5To tomorrow, I want to look it was fighting the eye.
Speaker 20I don't want to tell him what a sheep lying no good Robbie for blushing mollife, snake licking, dirt eating and bread over stuff, ignorant but fucking dom kissing, brainless, homeless, heartless, fatass, bug eyed Steple like it's funny, wormhaded sack of monkey.
Speaker 3He is a know yah, I'm just tuned in live for the.
Speaker 1First time ever.
Speaker 5Oh whoa excellent.
Speaker 3A lot of people at home Christmas welcome boy manage you know, sitting by the yule tide and uh listening to pursue.
Speaker 16Sitting by the yule log, Sitting by the yule tide, some people are by the ocean.
Speaker 6Oh okay, not the river, though, no river wouldn't have a Yule tide.
Speaker 3Correct to everyone out there listening, have a merry Christmas.
That's what you celebrate.
Speaker 1Merry Christmas.
Speaker 3Ho ho ho.
All right Backhan and Patriots Unfiltered eight five five pass five hundred is the hotline podcast at Patriots dot com.
Is the email address is Alex coming.
Speaker 1I don't think is.
Speaker 5But it's a time here.
Speaker 6What time is it that we can do the co Pilot Question of the Week real quick before do that?
Speaker 1Yeah?
All right, right, here we go.
Speaker 6It's time for the co Pilot Question of the Week, presented by Microsoft Copilot.
Where every day is Game Day and where every decision is powered by insight and innovation.
Microsoft technology helps to make decisions faster, Insight sharper, and strategy is more adaptive.
All right, guys, this week we're talking about Pro Bowl.
Drake May made the Pro Bowl.
Christian Zaliz made the Pro Bowl.
Speaker 1He stomped me.
Speaker 5Who stops me?
Speaker 6Who are the top three Patriots of all time that have gone to the.
Speaker 1Most Pro Bowls?
Speaker 5Tom Brady, Tom Brady?
Speaker 8How many?
Speaker 1This is just with the Patriots too.
Speaker 6I have to clarify if anyone's going to check my math on this seventeen fourteen, fourteen times number two.
Anybody any guesses on two and three, I'd say John John Hannah is third with nine Pro Bowls.
Speaker 3Okay, it's one more, Pippot, we were.
Speaker 1Just talking tip it actually five five down.
Speaker 6He's tied with Richard Seymour, Nope, Wes Welker, Gronk, Will fork uh Gostowski all five at four one more guy, you're thinking off the beaten path.
Speaker 1Mike Rabel was just.
Speaker 3Talking special teams.
Speaker 5Oh Slater, Slater, Oh yeah.
Speaker 1Ten Pro Bowls.
Speaker 3So oh shore, there you have it.
Speaker 5So Mike, Mike clearly has been angry that I've been getting the answers, so he decided to go.
He decided to find something that one of the very few things that I have no interest in, my special team, no Pro Bowls, I could care less.
And there you go.
Speaker 6Congratulations.
So yeah, there you have it.
Speaker 3All right, Well, we're waiting for Alex.
Speaker 5Alex coming out of this, like several times during the show that she's working on something with Ramandre Stevenson and she was not taking over all the time.
Speaker 1Well, she's dedicated, and she she writes, really.
Speaker 3Well, okay, all right, all right, well we'll get it.
It's that time of the week, the week, the week.
Speaker 1And cue.
Speaker 3All right, Paul, how do we do?
Speaker 6So?
Speaker 5As I eluded, Fred and Evan twelve and four, Alex and Paul eleven and five, Mike eight and eight.
However, with the spread, Fred joins Alex at eleven four and one in second place, time in the second place, third place behind Evan at twelve three and one.
Wow, Evan twelve three and one with the spread bread Evan really making a charge, but he's he's well in the rears.
Speaker 1Yeah you know.
Speaker 5Mike nine six and one, good job.
Speaker 1Respect you.
Speaker 5And feeling the pressure of trying to catch the uncatchable Freddie feels Paul eight seven and one.
So dropping three games at this time, this is not the time of year to be dropping three games.
Speaker 19In a week.
Speaker 1It was cold in the last week.
You couldn't you didn't perform in the cold.
Speaker 5I think that's an excellent point.
Did you notice how cold I was during the post games?
You remember how cold we were?
Speaker 1I was cold.
Speaker 3You need to get the Scooba suit.
Speaker 5It was so much like germ infestation going on.
Speaker 1I think we talked the bullet though, because I still feel great.
Speaker 5Yeah, I think my tickle is kind of gone, so I don't know.
We'll see anyway.
The overall standings, Fred and Alex remain well, no, they are tied now because Fred pick picked up a game one fifty six eighty three and one, so that tied in first place.
Paul is in third at one forty nine ninety and one, Mike one forty five ninety four and one, and Evan won forty four to ninety five in one.
Speaker 1Oh god, I can't go double.
I can't go double.
Speaker 5Last place with the spread.
Freddie feels one twenty nine, one oh eight and three.
There was another push this week, uh, Paul one twenty two, one fifteen in three.
Evans strong week puts him over the five hundred market at one nineteen one eighteen and three, Alex one sixteen one twenty one and three, and deuce one oh one.
Good congratulations vendor for breaking one hundred, one thirty six and three.
Speaker 1So there you go.
Speaker 3All right, Well, we got to two weeks to go in the regular season.
Speaker 6I can't I can't be in last place in both I got a hold of it, an ar.
Speaker 3Okay, Well, you're gonna have to be creative with your picks then this week.
Speaker 5So yeah, next year, I'll go first and we'll see if that makes any difference.
Speaker 6All right, just saying I never complained about having to go first.
Speaker 1It was the that's true, you know.
Speaker 3But yeah, you've resigned yourself to.
Speaker 1Being I've also resigned myself.
Right.
Speaker 3All right, Well we start off with Christmas at one o'clock on Netflix.
Remember that though this is on Netflix.
Uh, it's Dallas six eight and one at Washington four and eleven, Dallas by seven.
Speaker 1That's by seven.
Speaker 13Huh.
Speaker 1All right, I'm gonna take Dallas to win.
I'm gonna take the points.
Speaker 6Uh short week, Christmas, YadA, YadA, YadA.
Speaker 3Dallas still got a chance.
No, So they're out of the playoffs.
I believe they were eliminated, right, Okay, I didn't know.
Speaker 1That's another one.
Don't check it.
Yeah, just go ahead it.
Speaker 3Well, I mean that plays into a lot of these picks.
Speaker 5I believe that they were eliminated.
Are they six eight and one?
Speaker 1They are eliminated?
Speaker 3Yeah, so we're gonna need that, Matt.
So, I don't know where you got that info from but keep that website up so we can figure this out.
Speaker 5All right, So Alex is not here, so I will actually echo Deuce's pick.
I will take Dallas to win, but I'll take the points.
And I think there's a chance that Washington wins this game outright, But I'm not quite ready to go there.
Speaker 3Yeah, I'm there as well.
I'll take Dallas to win, but I'll take the points.
It's Christmas.
Washington doesn't want to No one wants to be there, you know, nobody wants to be there.
But they also don't want to play poorly in front of their fans.
Speaker 5No one wants to be there for any of these games.
To be honest with you, I don't think anybody League wants to play on Christmas.
Speaker 3I thought.
I think it's funny.
People were like, you know, years ago, they shouldn't make the teams playing Christmas this year it's the games aren't good enough on Christmas.
Speaker 5Well, I think it's ridiculous that they're not only playing on Christmas, they're adding games on Christmas.
Speaker 3Thursday, four thirty on Netflix, it's Detroit eight and seven at Minnesota seven and.
Speaker 5Eight, Detroit by seven and a half.
Mike no, I know it's unfair when Mike makes picks without knowing.
Speaker 1No, jj M nine.
Speaker 3And what are the implications.
Speaker 5For this game any well, Detroit has to win there in dire straits.
Speaker 3And Minnesota's out.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah.
In the regard, I'll take Detroit and I'm gonna lay the points.
Speaker 5Yeah, I'm gonna do the same thing.
I saw that Max Brosemer guy play that game in Seattle and it may have been the worst quarterback performance I've watched.
So I'm going to take Detroit both ways.
Speaker 3Yeah, me too, Detroit both ways, all right.
The third of the triple header, Christmas Night, eight fifteen on Prime.
Speaker 1Yeah, this is a different stream.
Speaker 3Yeah, this is on Prime, not Netflix.
The twelve and three Broncos are at the six and nine Chiefs.
We're looking for a little Christmas miracle here.
Speaker 5You'll need America quarterback denver By thirteen and a half.
No Gardner, minshew, it'll be the guy from South Dakota State there.
Speaker 1I couldn't do I couldn't do it.
Speaker 5Olu Kanla thirteen and a half, Ola denver By thirteen that Kansas City.
Speaker 3Yeah, well they allowed it because this is such a hostmatch.
Speaker 5And because Mahomes is out.
Yeah, that was that the line is right, Denver was playing on the road because out it was originally scheduled to be in Dens.
Speaker 3Right.
Speaker 6You guys see the deal that Kansas City got from Kansas to move.
I mean, guys, over a billion dollars, like everything.
Speaker 5Can I ask a dumb question out?
Speaker 9You know?
Speaker 1Are we in a safe space?
Speaker 5It depends on what you're why not get mocked and ridiculed for this.
The Kansas City, Missouri, right and the Kansas City, Kansas.
Is it the same actual city but it just is on the overlaps both states?
Speaker 1Or is it two separate cities?
Speaker 3I always thought it was too separate, but separate cities.
Speaker 5I always thought it was two separate cities.
And I'm I'm you know, I'm asking.
Speaker 3For basically, they could just shift stadium over.
So it's not a dumb question, is what you're saying.
I don't think a lot of people didn't even know.
Speaker 5No, I knew there was a difference between Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas.
But I always thought they were two separate.
Speaker 3And I thought so too.
Speaker 1I mean, it is, but now I'm being.
Speaker 5Told that it's the same.
It just happens to ye be cut by the state border.
Speaker 1This feels like we're really stupid right now, I think it is.
I think it is right on the It is right.
Speaker 6According to the Google it says two separate bordering cities and different Yeah.
Speaker 3They are bordered, separate bordering cities in different states.
Speaker 1So they border.
Yeah, they too, at least a quarters.
Speaker 3But they're separate.
Well, they have to be separate because of the government, right, like they can't.
One is in the.
Speaker 5State, but they but they are actually like if there was no state, they will be one state.
It be one city.
Yeah, yeah, okay, all right, I thought it was two separate Yeah.
Speaker 3Like different locations like miles apart.
Speaker 5Yeah.
So anyway, Denver's favored by thirteen and a half.
Speaker 6Thirteen and a half, definitely say Denver to win.
That's just a big number on a Christmas game.
And shoot, I'll lay it.
Speaker 1I'll lay the thirteen.
Speaker 5Yeah, I am going to as well.
Kansas City proud team.
A lot of wins that have nothing to play for, probably not real happy to be playing in this game.
Speaker 1The fans aren't gonna be happy.
Speaker 5Yeah, I'm going to take Denver to win both ways.
Speaker 3I'm going to take the points, and the reason being that in the event that there is a Christmas miracle, at least I can win that part of sure the selection.
So I'm basically hedging it.
Speaker 5Yeah, all right, now get any on you.
Speaker 3Now we move to Saturday.
So we're playing Friday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday and Monday this week.
Speaker 5Yeah assume, wow.
Speaker 3Get ready because that's probably what it is going to do that last week too, did we did we do that Thursday, Saturday, Sunday?
Speaker 14Oh?
Speaker 3Yeah, we had the Saturday game Saturday at four thirty.
It's Houston ten and five at the Chargers eleven and.
Speaker 5Four, Black by two and a half.
Speaker 3I think the Chargers get a lot of respect that they may not deserve, but anyway.
Speaker 6Go yeah, I'm going to go with Houston in this game.
Speaker 1I know that's probably bad for the Patriots, but I just what respect.
Yeah, I'm gonna take this their favorite over Houston.
Speaker 5They've been better than Houston all year.
Speaker 3No, they haven't.
Not lately, No, I don't think so.
I disagree.
Speaker 1What's their record?
Speaker 3Eleven and four, which Houston's record, But I'm telling you late, don't you think Houston's played better lately.
Speaker 5No, they just barely squeaked by the Raiders at home last week.
Speaker 1I don't know.
Speaker 5I think while the Chargers went to Dallas and.
Speaker 3Everyone's a scare to Houston, I'm told.
Speaker 5But that See, that's your problem is you're listening.
Speaker 3To the not A lot of people are say I'm sorry, Mike, who did you take?
Speaker 1I'm gonna take the upset.
I'm gonna take Houston.
Speaker 3Good, Mike, I just.
Speaker 1Think they're better.
Speaker 5I'm gonna take Houston as well.
I'll in all seriousness, I've been very impressed with the Chargers' resilience of being able to say, I know everybody thinks that we're done because of all our injuries, but they just keep I mean, they beat the Eagles, they beat the Cowboys, they just keep winning these games.
And I kind of agree with I don't think Houston's better.
I think the Chargers have a better team, but they're just beat the crap.
But I've been impressed with the way they've played.
Speaker 3So what did the email of remind us that we're really rooting for the Chargers to beat Houston?
Speaker 5Yes, because that would mean the Chargers would want to play hard in the.
Speaker 3Last I'm going to root for the charge.
I'm picking the Chargers to good.
There we go, Chargers win this game.
But I also think there's something about Harbaugh.
Speaker 5I think, you know, I think their defense has played really well.
Speaker 1There.
Speaker 5Defensive coordinator is getting some consideration, you know, as a head coach candidate.
They've been impressive.
The Chargers.
That's a that's a pretty good team.
I thought that they would crumble.
I've been ridiculously impressed with Herbert's toughness this year, not just because of the broken hands, but the way he's played.
Speaker 3Yeah, I think Harbaugh might have the right messaging for this time of the year, you know.
Speaker 1Just so weird.
Speaker 3Saturday at eight, This is on Prime.
Oh, by the way, that game was on NFL Network.
This game, I think is on Peacock.
Hold on, I don't think I hold the phone the phone.
Yes, this game is on Peacock.
Speaker 5Oh no, I think I tried to do Paramount last night and it wouldn't let me on.
Maybe I do get Peacock.
Yeah.
Speaker 3Baltimore at green Bay, Yeah, Baltimore seven and eight at green Bay, nine to five and more.
Speaker 5Green Bay by three.
And I do not know the status Mike of a lot of the Green Bay players.
I'm not sure about Jordan Love.
Speaker 1Leon Arrison's out.
Uh what about Lamar?
Speaker 5Yeah, Lamar as well didn't practice.
Speaker 1Yeah, I'm just gonna.
Speaker 3By the way, you said Kittle's healthy and the report is that he is not healthy.
Speaker 1Yeah, they had a good game the other night.
I'm gonna take green Bay at home.
I'll lay the points.
Speaker 5Green Bay.
Speaker 1I will take green Bay.
Speaker 3Baltimore is I'm gonna take Green Bay as well.
Speaker 5If their coach doesn't want to win, then I'm gonna guess they're not gonna win.
Speaker 3Yeah, I'm gonna.
Speaker 1I'm gonna.
Speaker 5I think he should be fired.
I think that's a fireable offense.
You're you're playing for your playoff life, and your best player is hurt and your second best player is standing on the sideline and the coat next to you, and you claim that it wasn't what you wanted.
I think you need to go.
And I think the I think Heartall was a really good coach.
I just think it's time.
Speaker 3Wow, I'm gonna take Green Bay as well.
Hard to argue with that, though.
Now we move over to Sunday, the traditional Sunday at One games Seattle is twelve and three at Carolina eight and seven on CBS.
By the way, every time Jim Nance does a broadcast, does somebody just die the week before?
Like he's always like, you know, we've just lost one of our CBS family and it's some guy that you know, nobody knows except people that work at CBA.
Like it happens like every time he's on a broadcast, and not just football, the Masters or whatever.
It's it's like this always somebody he's memorializing.
Speaker 1It works.
A lot of people are always dying.
I guess what do you got.
Speaker 5Paul, Carolina.
I'm sorry Seattle by seven seven.
Speaker 6Yeah, I'm gonna take Seattle to win, but I'm gonna take the points for your Are they in.
Speaker 1First place right now?
Speaker 8Yeah?
Speaker 1First place?
Yes?
Well that wind doesn't look so pathetic, now, does it, Paul?
Speaker 5It does not My good job by v.
Speaker 1Or whatever the DV o p A is.
Speaker 5So when Seattle wins this game, that you'll go back to have faced two teams with winning records.
This is a tough one.
They don't.
Carolina does not need this game, I believe it or not.
It all comes down to the last game for them.
They if they would were to win, I'm gonna do the I'm going to do the deuce, which is not a good thing considering his track record.
But I'm gonna take Seattle to win in Carolina to cover and it's only two seven oh seven.
Speaker 3Yeah, big spread on the road.
That's the way I'm going to go to I'm I was tempted to pick Carolina out right.
Speaker 5The Rams and Niners need Seattle to lose that.
Speaker 3Yeah.
Sunday at one, Arizona three and twelve at Cincinnati five and ten on Fox.
Speaker 5Cincinnati by seven, Oh yeah.
Speaker 3This is an easy one.
Speaker 1Gross.
I'll take Cincinnati lay the points.
Speaker 5Yeah, I'm going to as well.
I look forward to the game starting and whoever does the announcing telling me how great Jacoby Brissett's been playing despite the fact that they lose every game.
Speaker 1Bengals.
Speaker 3Yeah, Bengals.
Joe Burrow on a mission to show he's having fun, right just to you know, quiet the people.
So although he started it, you just have to shouldn't have to try it.
He started it, he did, you know, it's not made up?
Yeah, So Cincinnati both weighs.
Sunday at one on CBS Pittsburgh nine and six at Cleveland three and twelve.
Speaker 5Pittsburgh by three, and I believe a win would clinch the division.
Speaker 3Correct, Yes, because Baltimore needs Cleveland to win.
Speaker 5Right somehow, Pittsburgh has a chance to close it out, close out the division, and no DK.
Speaker 1He suspended.
I'll take Pittsburgh and Poe.
Speaker 11Uh.
Speaker 1I'm tempted by just them.
I'm gonna lay the points.
I'll lay them.
Speaker 5Yeah, I'll take Pittsburgh both ways.
Although this is one of those Fred Kirsh Division games on the road, you never know, but Pittsburgh's got too much to play for.
They have to they have to win this one.
Speaker 3Yeah, I'll go with Pittsburgh as well.
Sunday at one on Fox, Jacksonville eleven and four at Indy eight and seven.
Speaker 5Jacksonville by six and a half.
M M yeah, I mean, Mike, Jacksonville owns, Indy owns.
Speaker 6Yeah, I know I was gonna see Jacksonville anyway.
Nice story of Philip Rose.
I mean, they're not winning, they're giving up a ton of points now too, So I'm gonna take them Jacksonville.
Speaker 1I'll lay the points.
Speaker 5Yeah, I'm gonna take Jacksonville both ways as well, and I agree about Philip Rivers.
Speaker 1I thought he played pretty well the other night.
Speaker 3Yeah, I will go Jacksonville as well.
Both ways.
Sunday at one on Fox, Tampa Bay seven and eight at Miami six and nine.
Speaker 5Uh, Tampa by five and a half.
Speaker 3Check real, they getting a lot of respect Tampa is.
Speaker 1Yeah, they have not been eliminated.
They're seven and eight, so.
Speaker 5They need they need to win any Carolina to well.
I think they just need to win.
Yeah, you say five and a half, five and a half, five and a half, you I'll take.
I'll take Tampa.
Speaker 1I'll lay the points.
Speaker 3Yeah, I know.
Speaker 1I hear your Tampa is in a funk.
Speaker 5I hear your Tampa's in a fine I know you know.
I'm gonna take Tampa to win.
But I'll take the points that I attempted to take the upset but quin yours man.
Speaker 1Yeah, that was tough.
Speaker 3I'll take the points as well.
I'll take the points as well.
Tampa will squeak by.
You know now that Drake May is in the league, Drake Drake May May, We're not so dependent on making the league good with Baker in it.
Speaker 1Oh oh wow, that's a change, you know.
Speaker 3So Yeah, now, now we've got Drake May.
Speaker 1So you can't say Drake Drake May May.
You gotta say Drake Drake May May.
That's the cadence.
You can't.
Speaker 5I don't really understand it still, and I've had three different versions of the explanation.
So I'm going to stay out of His nickname is Drake May.
My guess is it's not for me, So I'm going to stay in my lane.
Speaker 3It's for all of us.
Speaker 8Paul.
Speaker 3Yeah, Sunday at one on CBS, it's New Orleans five and ten at Tennessee three and twelve.
Speaker 5New Orleans by two and a half.
Give Kellen Moore some credit.
Speaker 3Yeah, they haven't given up.
Speaker 5They've been they've been winning games.
Speaker 3Yep.
Speaker 5Yeah, you know, probably not necessarily what they want to be doing, but first year coach, trying to establish something.
Speaker 1I'm going to go with Tennessee.
The upset at home cam Ward.
Speaker 5So I'm going to take the Saints.
But I have a feeling Mike is right.
This is one of those games where everybody's like, oh, you know, the Saints are I'm playing.
This is a game quote unquote a bad team is supposed to win on the road, and they cough it up.
I'm going to take the Saints because I think Tennessee is that bad.
Speaker 3I am too.
I'm gonna take the Saints, all right.
Now we skip over the Patriots at one o'clock and we moved to four oh five on CBS.
The Giants.
Speaker 5No, please, no, what is the worst match.
Speaker 3To the Giants?
Two and thirteen?
At the right is two and thirteen?
Speaker 1All right?
Speaker 5It is by one and a half.
Speaker 3The toilet Bowl.
Speaker 5No brock Bowers, No brock Bowers.
Someone else got on ir too.
Speaker 1Boil boy, Oh boy?
What to do?
What to do?
Ah?
I'm just I'm gonna go with Geno Smith and the Raiders.
I don't know why.
Speaker 5I'm gonna lose this game.
No matter who I pick, I'm gonna take the Giants.
Don't ask me why.
I have no rational explanation.
Speaker 3Yeah, I'm gonna take the Giants as well.
Now we go to four to twenty five.
When's the last time there were only two games in the four o'clock window?
Because this would be the Christmas Because there's not enough games.
They're all being played on Thursday, right h four on Fox Philadelphia ten and five at Buffalo eleven and four all Patriots eyes will be on.
Speaker 5This case is basically a nationally televised game.
The whole country's going to get this game, except for New York and Vegas.
Right, Buffalo by one and a half.
Speaker 1Yeah, I gotta I gotta do it.
I'm gonna take Philly.
Speaker 6I'm a little bit concerned about Josh Allen on his foot.
Speaker 1I'll take the Eagles.
Speaker 5I'm gonna take Buffalo.
I don't I kind of agree with Fred.
I don't think the Eagles look quite right to me.
I don't think they looked all that good against Washington the other day in that Saturday game.
I thought they I think if the Redskins, I'm sorry, the Commanders played, you know a little bit better, I think they could have pulled off an upset.
So I'll take I'll take Buffalo at home.
Speaker 3Yeah, I'm gonna I have to take Buffalo.
Obviously, I'm rooting for Philadelphia, and sometimes when that happens, I just picked them.
Anyway, I can't do it.
It's just too this is too easy for Buffalo.
Sunday Night eight twenty on NB Sure, good matchup, Chicago eleven and four at the forty nine Ers eleven and four, Chicago's already wrapped up their division.
Speaker 5Is that true.
I don't think that's true.
Speaker 3I thought they did or maybe they just clinched the playoffs.
They did something they either maybe they just clinched the playoff birth.
Speaker 5Maybe they they may have clinched.
Speaker 1They're just playoff birth.
Speaker 5Okay, the Niners by three.
The Niners.
The Niners and Seahawks control their destiny.
If the Niners went out, they're the number one seed.
If the Seahawks went out, they're the number one seed.
The Rams need some help.
Speaker 6Da, I'm gonna take San Francisco.
That's a that's a good game though.
Sunday night, I'll fard to checking that one out.
I'll take San Francisco a lay the points.
Speaker 5Yeah, I'm gonna take San Francisco as well.
I think that offense is clicking, and I don't think Caleb Williams is going to have the luxury of a slow start, which he's kind of gotten into a little bit of a pattern.
He's much better later, but it might be too much.
Yeah, I've been on Chicago most of the season.
You were right, but I was wrong.
I was not a believer.
Speaker 3I was off Chicago last week and I got screwed by that, but I'm going to be off him again this week.
I think San Francisco at home beats.
Speaker 1The Bears should be a good game.
Speaker 3Yeah, I that's a good one.
That's a good one.
Speaker 1All right.
Speaker 3Now we go to Monday Night on Ish Peirn and it's not eight fifteen, the Rams eleven and four at the Falcons six and nine.
Speaker 5Knowing the Rams by seven and a half Rams Rams, Yeah, same with me.
Indoors, that offense I think will put up too many points for Kirk Cousins in that pass rush could make life difficult for the old man.
Speaker 3I'm going to go with the Rams as well well.
Speaker 5Although I am not a believer in the Rams defense overall.
I think they have a good pass rush, but I don't think their secondary is very good.
Speaker 3Right now, we move back to one o'clock, and of course it's the Patriots at twelve and three visiting New Jersey to take on the Jets on Fox three and twelve.
Speaker 5Patriots by thirteen and a half, tied for the biggest spread of the week.
Speaker 1Yep, yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna listen to Evan.
I mean, he told me no chance, but I kind of agree with him.
Speaker 6I'm gonna take the Patriots by a nice comfy score of thirty four to ten.
Speaker 5Yeah, I see a similar kind of game.
I'm gonna say thirty three to six.
I don't see any offense for their Jets, and this is just a focused game special teams.
I wouldn't be surprised if they do the same thing on the kickoffs.
Just ki kick him in the end zone and give him the thirty five.
They're not going to do anything with that, and just don't give the Jets any points.
Speaker 1And you should be okay.
Speaker 3In this one.
Listen, it's a division game the Jets.
You just never know in this league.
Patriots forty two ten.
Speaker 5You see me right it in.
You see me writ it in.
Speaker 3When he started, you know they have to give the Patriots are going to have to give up that first drive touchdown.
Speaker 6Right right and after it, and then that let your blog will be blowing up.
Speaker 5I would have to to think about it, but I would wonder a first drive touchdown in this game, would it?
I think it would be the most surprising one that they would have allowed, counting Cleveland at home, counting the one they allowed to Carolina, at home, the one they allowed to Tennessee on the road.
This would be I think more surprising than even any of those.
Yeah, even the first time the Jets did it in the Thursday night game.
They went right down the field and scored.
Speaker 3Yep.
But I think Patriots handle the Jets in New Jersey.
I'm probably going to be mostly Patriots fans in the crowd, if you know, like, why would it just Fireman ed?
He's out, He's been gone since like week three.
Speaker 5You know, I wonder how many empty seats they'll be just period, Yeah, you know.
Yeah, it's a big place, a big place Christmas weekend.
Speaker 1Yeah, screw that terrible matchup.
Speaker 3Ye all right, Well listen, it's not the end of the year, but it's getting there, right It is Christmas.
Two more shows until the end of the year, right, Yeah, So I hope everyone has a good day tomorrow.
Patriots are off.
Speaker 5Where off, Mike and I will be with you on Sunday, Yeah.
Speaker 3Show pre game show.
I'll be in New Jersey doing the blog.
Everybody behave If things don't go one hundred percent the way you want it to go, the things.
Speaker 5They're going to.
So I think you've all been a good again.
Speaker 3I don't want criticism, but I want constructive criticism, not we're frauds.
You don't need that, all right.
Speaker 5I gotta tell you, if they lose to the Jets, I might be in the fraud category.
Speaker 3They had a bad way, they came out unfocused, and you know, they deserve criticism.
But I still think they're I think they're a pretty good team.
I mean, I think we're twelve and three.
All right, see you later.
Hey, this is Alex.
