Episode Transcript
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, the good news is I'm gonna talk hockey for a long time on this one.
[SPEAKER_02]: The bad news is [SPEAKER_02]: Gonna be the last show for a little while.
[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back to get him next year.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm your host JJ.
[SPEAKER_02]: I am joined by me myself and I it is okay.
[SPEAKER_02]: So you're listening to this on July third.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm recording it little after five o'clock on July first NHL free agency day if you observe also happy Canada day if you observe anyway.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just me [SPEAKER_02]: And before I get into everything, I should have a decently long show.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm hopefully going to be joined by somebody, so it's not just me talking out loud into the void for the better part of an hour.
[SPEAKER_02]: Little programming, scheduling, whatever you want to call it, fourth wall.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I've been watching nothing but NHL draft and NHL free agency coverage for the last [SPEAKER_02]: five days four days five days anyway and one thing became abundantly clear to me I would rather take a brief break for summer call it vacation whatever then just absolutely slam my head against the wall and [SPEAKER_02]: put out derivative episodes until we actually have something good to talk about.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I got to the point where I was watching Bob McKenzie, great NHL writer reporter since retired a few years ago from full time.
[SPEAKER_02]: And now I believe he's just retiring.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's off to Bob McKenzie.
[SPEAKER_02]: But a couple other guys.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a big fan of serious XM's NHL network radio.
[SPEAKER_02]: The guys on the point.
[SPEAKER_02]: a few other podcasters and reporters that I put stock in.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they all do the same thing after the free agency.
[SPEAKER_02]: They take a break.
[SPEAKER_02]: Some of them couple of weeks, some of them a month.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I've got to think and, you know, instead of me putting up episodes where we just kind of hit the same five topics and [SPEAKER_02]: say the same things for the next month because let's be honest I've made mention of it we're in the sports desert and there's no getting out for a little while so instead of just you know coming up with derivative stuff for the month of July I think we're gonna take and we're gonna call today the season finale of get them next year season one [SPEAKER_02]: We're going to take a little hiatus and we're going to come back and I'll get to that in a minute too.
[SPEAKER_02]: But we're going to take a little break.
[SPEAKER_02]: I know Kevin has some stuff coming up plans.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's a vacation in there and that makes it harder on him.
[SPEAKER_02]: I can always find time to record, but it's hard to find time with the other guys.
[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of them tend to cheat later in the day and [SPEAKER_02]: I make it work as best I can.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not a huge fan of later in the day.
[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, I'm blabbering.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to call this the season finale and we're going to be back the first Thursday of August as I click on my calendar.
[SPEAKER_02]: So we're going to record in the beginning of that first week of August somewhere around the fourth of the fifth to drop another flagship episode.
[SPEAKER_02]: Season two episode one, if you will, on the seventh of August and the reason I'm picking that date.
[SPEAKER_02]: we're gonna have the MLB trade deadline on the thirty first about a week prior and all the fallout and we can come in and do a philly centric episode as we ramp up for the run to the postseason and I feel like we could easily with a month off have a lot to talk about and then following that we're looking at you know you're gonna get a college football preview or two [SPEAKER_02]: out of me as well as an NFL training camp and season preview.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that's the plan as it sits.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I should probably have played the music here, but oh, well, I'll play Kev's favorite piano music.
[SPEAKER_02]: So let's get through the NHL.
[SPEAKER_02]: I will hopefully have tiles on here at some point to talk about, you know, I'm sure he can talk about the fillies.
[SPEAKER_02]: I wanted to briefly mention the WMBA because it's coming to Philadelphia and I feel like he would be a good sparring partner.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's see, the sixers are in the middle of free agency.
[SPEAKER_02]: They've done nothing.
[SPEAKER_02]: the union are good the union are good in the club world cup is kind of showing why the MLS is not a real league anyway back to hockey so we've had the two major events of the offseason [SPEAKER_02]: the first being the NHL draft.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you're in our discord, boy, you heard me say some things.
[SPEAKER_02]: And thanks for being a member.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is where Kev can edit in where to find us on discord or at some point in the episode.
[SPEAKER_02]: Anyhow, the draft went according to form with the first three picks.
[SPEAKER_02]: Sheafer to the islanders, Misa to the sharks, frondell, chew the black hawks.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's when it got interesting.
[SPEAKER_02]: We didn't know what Utah was going to do.
[SPEAKER_02]: They went with Caleb Denoye, and then I expected Nashville to either trade the pick to the islanders or to take James Higgins.
[SPEAKER_02]: Neither of those things happened.
[SPEAKER_02]: They made what I would call a little bit of a reach and they grabbed Brady Martin.
[SPEAKER_02]: Brady Martin, the best comp I've seen on the internet is [SPEAKER_02]: he's micritchards without the Coke problem.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, anyway.
[SPEAKER_02]: After that left the flyers up with the choice of either James Higgins, which I was screaming to anyone who would listen in both real life and on the internet, that that was the pick or Porter Martone.
[SPEAKER_02]: Right winger, we've got a lot of wingers, but he is an elite talent.
[SPEAKER_02]: the flyers took more tone and I was angry for about five minutes because we needed center help and you know even with the addition of gress there's no guarantee he's going to be a long-term solution.
[SPEAKER_02]: We also don't know what we have in JetLooChanko as a centerman.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I was a little annoyed because Hagen's was on the board.
[SPEAKER_02]: He went the very next pick to the Boston Bruins.
[SPEAKER_02]: So after that, and I watched the interview and I know he's a flyer's fan and he poster of G on his wall.
[SPEAKER_02]: kind of hard not to root for a guy, you know, he's also six, three, two, five.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's a big physical presence.
[SPEAKER_02]: Comparisons I've seen obviously the one I think most people heard was Corey Perry.
[SPEAKER_02]: The one I was a big fan of hearing was a meco random.
[SPEAKER_02]: That would be nice.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's if we get a poor man's meco random.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a big addition.
[SPEAKER_02]: So [SPEAKER_02]: I guess I'm okay with it.
[SPEAKER_02]: He was also the one that was deemed most NHL ready by most scouts and he will probably be able to contribute to the club sooner than, you know, a Higgins would.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now I expect him to get the same treatment as Luchenko.
[SPEAKER_02]: He'll get an eight game try out in the NHL to start the season before he gets sent back.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not upset with the move.
[SPEAKER_02]: although at the time I was.
[SPEAKER_02]: The draft is a home from there.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's when it got weird.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the flyers had twenty two and thirty one.
[SPEAKER_02]: They move both of them, which is a bit of an overpay to the Pittsburgh penguins.
[SPEAKER_02]: They traded with the shit birds to pick up the twelve and at that point, [SPEAKER_02]: They drafted Jack Nezbitt, who a lot of people online were saying at the time he would have been there at twenty two.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was an overpay to move up for no reason.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_02]: He wouldn't have been there at twenty two, not a chance.
[SPEAKER_02]: He probably would have been taken around seventeen.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let me just double check that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: The islanders would have most likely taken him at sixteen or seventeen.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's no way he would have made it.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm looking at the list right here.
[SPEAKER_02]: So you've got the islanders at sixteen and seventeen.
[SPEAKER_02]: You have the flames at eighteen.
[SPEAKER_02]: The blues at nineteen.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's no way.
[SPEAKER_02]: He wouldn't have been there at twenty two.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they overpaid because you traded with your rival and a division rival and an in-state rival and a team that I truly hate more than anything.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm hoping I'm not the only one out there.
[SPEAKER_02]: But if that's your guy, go get him.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm reminded of the Eagles trading up.
[SPEAKER_02]: If that's your guy, go get him.
[SPEAKER_02]: Six foot five, one eighty five.
[SPEAKER_02]: He is not NHL ready, but [SPEAKER_02]: But big boy and definitely will have the ability to contribute.
[SPEAKER_02]: They went size in the draft.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to keep going here.
[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, that was it for the first round.
[SPEAKER_02]: I wasn't upset.
[SPEAKER_02]: The only thing I was upset about is my favorite prospect in the group, Colin Potter, from your Arizona State Sun Devils.
[SPEAKER_02]: He ended up going to Calgary and not Philadelphia.
[SPEAKER_02]: What are you going to do?
[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, let's see here.
[SPEAKER_02]: Carter Amico.
[SPEAKER_02]: Take it in the second round.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, another Hawking mass of a US national development team.
[SPEAKER_02]: Six foot six right handed defense.
[SPEAKER_02]: We, we like that.
[SPEAKER_02]: We like right handed defense, but those are hard to come by.
[SPEAKER_02]: Jack Murtoff.
[SPEAKER_02]: Soon after, Centerman left winger six foot one, you're noticing a theme here a bit at this point.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not gonna rattle off everybody, but last one I'll mention Shane Vassaggi right winger six foot two.
[SPEAKER_02]: Again, I know we have a glut of wingers.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're doing just fine at the winger position, but that is a solid pick as well, another US guy.
[SPEAKER_02]: So probably gonna end up going to college.
[SPEAKER_02]: What's this last guy else as well?
[SPEAKER_02]: Pardon me folks, Matthew guard, last pick, and forward six foot four.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the entire point that Danny Breir has been mentioning for years now is he wants the flyers to be hard to play against.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, the average height of your draft picks is somewhere around six to you've added a lot of size to go with a lot of talent.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I would say that the team now has easily a top ten farm system.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'll get into it in a minute.
[SPEAKER_02]: The free agents that they signed two day.
[SPEAKER_02]: The flyers have a top ten farm.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, tiles is there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, buddy.
[SPEAKER_03]: We're on a mobile hotspot and living on a dream here.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh boy, this can go any sort of way.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let us pray.
[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, as I wrap up, in addition to the farm system now being easily top ten in the league, the fandoms are going to be really good.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you are anywhere near the Lehigh Valley, I highly recommend you invest in some fandom tickets, but we'll get more into that in a minute.
[SPEAKER_02]: So how long have you been sitting there, Tiles?
[SPEAKER_02]: Because I've gone for the last ten minutes just on hockey.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's a little alarming that you just saw me then, because I've been here for since you were wrapping up on a nest bit.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, well, I was on Puck P to the entire time.
[SPEAKER_02]: I had to get some, I had to get information and scroll through.
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't want to be rude.
[SPEAKER_03]: You were, you were clearly on a roll, so I didn't want to interrupt you.
[SPEAKER_02]: I appreciate that.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I did tell the people, this is the season finale of season one of Getham next year.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to be taking July as a hiatus.
[SPEAKER_02]: Much like most of my favorite hockey writers and reporters.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to come back strong with the first episode of August being Philly centric because we're going to be post trade deadline.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure you have no qualms with that.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you're the only one I was worried about anyway.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that was the draft.
[SPEAKER_02]: All in all, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_02]: They got big.
[SPEAKER_02]: They got big and they got talented.
[SPEAKER_02]: Nezbit has a high ceiling.
[SPEAKER_02]: Porter Martone might be the third most purely talented player in the draft.
[SPEAKER_02]: So, although I was mad, I get it.
[SPEAKER_03]: As I said in the Discord, he passes the name check.
[SPEAKER_03]: Porter Martone is an elite name.
[SPEAKER_03]: And if you were his number ninety four, like you did at Brampton, I think we're looking at an all time player.
[SPEAKER_02]: I do enjoy a ninety four.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I like the size.
[SPEAKER_02]: I like what they did.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would have liked them to pick a goalie.
[SPEAKER_02]: Clearly, they think it's either Zavragna or Beyonce because otherwise you would have taken a goalie.
[SPEAKER_02]: But they added size.
[SPEAKER_02]: They added every position other than gold tender.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm actually very happy with the drip.
[SPEAKER_02]: They were one of the of only a handful of teams to get graded in a [SPEAKER_02]: I think you can kind of piece together what they're trying to do.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that becomes a lot clearer when you look at what they've done in free agency so far today, which we're about to get into.
[SPEAKER_02]: Where are you?
[SPEAKER_02]: Have you followed anything?
[SPEAKER_02]: What do you know?
[SPEAKER_03]: I know the players that have been signed, but I know them by name.
[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't really know too much about like everybody they've signed.
[SPEAKER_03]: I know I followed your continued like at this point hundred and ten hour manifesto that is the the flyers discord at this point.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hey man.
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, so let's just hop into it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Where should we start?
[SPEAKER_02]: Should we start with what they have done or what hasn't happened yet?
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, do you want to talk about your, your terrified, why haven't they, the, the Russian.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so it's in job and off hasn't signed yet.
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's starting to bits me off.
[SPEAKER_02]: But okay, so I've reported on this twice from listening to a website in Russia that usually is pretty good at breaking news.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that was like a month and a half ago.
[SPEAKER_02]: Then the guy who reported in America that Mitch Kov was coming over and nailed it, reported he was signing.
[SPEAKER_02]: Shabbonov is still not signed.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's down to a handful of teams, including the Rangers and Islanders, which is terrifying.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, I don't even know if I want to keep going.
[SPEAKER_02]: Danibriere made his comments a little while ago about free agency.
[SPEAKER_02]: And when was asked about Shabanov said while smiling and laughing that he really likes that he keeps reading that we've signed him.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's down to the last few teams and the flyers are among them and they really hope he picks the flyers.
[SPEAKER_02]: But he said it like in the most jovial way, light-hearted way you could possibly be.
[SPEAKER_02]: day one of free agency.
[SPEAKER_02]: So like, and I'm just, it reminded me a lot of when he was all smiles about Mitch Kov before the news broke that he was coming over a year early.
[SPEAKER_02]: So, okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: So he's going to say, when you're looking at the roster, the way you were talking to this court, he, you're still factoring in his, he's one of the roster spots.
[SPEAKER_03]: No, I am not.
[SPEAKER_02]: The flyers are at their max.
[SPEAKER_02]: They are at twenty three active.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, I can tell you right now, Lane Patterson, spoiler alert.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm getting into some guys now.
[SPEAKER_02]: Lane Patterson and Dennis Gilbert are both depth guys and are going to play in the A, which goes back to my point.
[SPEAKER_02]: The fandoms are going to be really hard to play against.
[SPEAKER_02]: Those are just guys and injury replacement guys.
[SPEAKER_02]: So those are two of the twenty three because Cam York still needs a deal.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be a bridge deal.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're running out of cap space and Shabbonov needs a deal.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I think and the nice thing is and we'll get it into it right now.
[SPEAKER_02]: Tyson Forster has an injury and it's probably going to kill his season.
[SPEAKER_02]: I am very annoyed because for the second time Anthony Sam Philipo.
[SPEAKER_02]: Philipo.
[SPEAKER_02]: Anthony San Philipo.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're Italian.
[SPEAKER_02]: Help me out.
[SPEAKER_02]: I just like to watch you struggle.
[SPEAKER_02]: Shut up.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_02]: He nailed the part of my tone thing at the draft and he nailed this.
[SPEAKER_02]: So he got injured during worlds and apparently it became infected near the elbow and he had to have a procedure.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're looking at three months and that's not three months from today.
[SPEAKER_02]: Danny Breyer basically alluded to the fact that they were hoping for the best and it's not three months of the season.
[SPEAKER_02]: We really do need chabin' off because otherwise Abels is going to be your left-winger.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's what they made.
[SPEAKER_03]: Where's the scoring coming from?
[SPEAKER_02]: Outside of the other like three or four people.
[SPEAKER_02]: Zegras, Mitch Kov, Connectany.
[SPEAKER_02]: Listen, I'm not worried.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think they have a chance at the playoffs if one thing happens, and that's the goal-tending figures out how to be league average, not below league average.
[SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, for starters, we need Shabbin' off to fill that in.
[SPEAKER_02]: Stuff they did today, they overpaid Christian Dvorak.
[SPEAKER_02]: I know the entire internet's just going to beat this this horse.
[SPEAKER_02]: The horse is dead.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's dead of the Mr.
Ed and Mr.
Ed's buried somewhere in fucking Iowa.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's an overpay.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're not a playoff team.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're not a destination right now.
[SPEAKER_02]: You have to overpay.
[SPEAKER_02]: It shades of Kevin Hayes, but thank God, thankfully, it's only a one year deal.
[SPEAKER_02]: Listen, here's what's gonna happen.
[SPEAKER_02]: Devorick's gonna be your stop gap center.
[SPEAKER_02]: Probably your four C, maybe a three C, a problem occurs, or if he overperforms, but doubtful.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's your four C, and either he's gonna be a great four C.
[SPEAKER_02]: or he's going to be off the team in a year, or if the team is not good enough, and they're in the Gavin McKenna sweepstakes, they're going to retain half and flip him by actually ten they retain half.
[SPEAKER_02]: I have to break that down myself.
[SPEAKER_02]: Do we have a retention spot?
[SPEAKER_03]: They're still carrying.
[SPEAKER_02]: And we're carrying Hayes and Lawton.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're carrying Hayes and Lawton.
[SPEAKER_02]: We have Cam Atkinson on the on the cap, but it's a buyout, not a retention.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: So they do have a slot.
[SPEAKER_02]: So we have a slot.
[SPEAKER_02]: So you carry half and you flip him to a team that needs a center and boom, you'll flip him to and he'll turn into a third rounder.
[SPEAKER_03]: Not that I think they would do it, but I guess he could also be like a salary matching situation if you were to make some sort of in season trade, too.
[SPEAKER_02]: But very possible.
[SPEAKER_02]: Good point.
[SPEAKER_02]: Listen, what the other big move, they signed a goalie.
[SPEAKER_02]: They signed Dan Vlator.
[SPEAKER_02]: They signed Dan Vlator.
[SPEAKER_03]: a league average goal.
[SPEAKER_03]: They have two of them.
[SPEAKER_03]: So hopefully, you know, they can get that type of production.
[SPEAKER_02]: So he played three games three.
[SPEAKER_02]: He played thirty games last year.
[SPEAKER_02]: He was about just under a nine hundred save percentage, which is what you want to say.
[SPEAKER_02]: Listen, Danny basically said we're going to need three goalies this year.
[SPEAKER_02]: Those three goleys are going to be Erson, Flater, and Fedatov.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I think Fedatov is going to probably, they'll probably all start with the club and someone's going to go down and it ain't Erson because he'll get snapped up.
[SPEAKER_02]: But we'll see what happens.
[SPEAKER_02]: Bjornson is also going to be in the A.
That's fun.
[SPEAKER_02]: If a twenty-year-old Carson Bjornson decides to be a world-beater great, I doubt it, let him develop.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully he turns into something, and Emmons of Rogan are going to be the future.
[SPEAKER_02]: but they have four point six million dollars left with this chabin' off and the cam york bridge.
[SPEAKER_02]: So something tells me the cam york bridge is going, yeah, they're out of money already.
[SPEAKER_02]: Something tells me the cam york bridge is going to be, you also have to remember that Ryan Ellis does have to go on LTIR.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I was gonna say, does this mean like, do you expect some more movement to like open up space this summer?
[SPEAKER_03]: If they this time, [SPEAKER_02]: If they offer sheet somebody, yeah, then they're gonna have to.
[SPEAKER_02]: I also would not be surprised if they found a team that was struggling to get to the floor.
[SPEAKER_02]: So you have to spend a certain amount of money in the NHL.
[SPEAKER_02]: The floor this year is seventy point six.
[SPEAKER_02]: And again, Puck Pedia, the greatest website ever.
[SPEAKER_02]: So one, two, three, well, the hurricanes are actually gonna try to win so they don't count.
[SPEAKER_02]: one two they're gonna try to compete they're gonna try to compete I don't want to trade with Pittsburgh I'm going through all the teams that have the space so the ducks in the sharks both have twenty eight point nine nine and thirty four point three nine million as of this second five fifty on July first if you were to trade Ellis that opens up six point six five [SPEAKER_02]: Now, you're going to have to give something up.
[SPEAKER_02]: And it would probably, at that number, it would have to be prospects, a roster player or your one.
[SPEAKER_02]: And you can't give up your one.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: No, I agree.
[SPEAKER_02]: Unless you were going to do a situation when you, where you, you know, our one is lottery protected, and it turns into, you can do something like that.
[SPEAKER_03]: Are they so I this I don't know if this might be a little risky but I know York is an RFA so they can technically just offer they can offer sheet him right.
[SPEAKER_03]: You don't offer sheet your own life.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's not what I meant.
[SPEAKER_03]: So basically they have his rights.
[SPEAKER_03]: So we could conceivably wait until they can put Ellis.
[SPEAKER_02]: on long-term injury reserve or would that be waiting to know you you you need to start the season cap compliant and then Alice goes on well that's what I'm saying allowed to be ten percent over the cap so they can sign him and they'll be fine as long as they factor in that money but they won't back they won't bank any salary cap space you still with me [SPEAKER_02]: tiles, we have lost, you my brother.
[SPEAKER_02]: Anywho.
[SPEAKER_02]: With him, it doesn't really make sense to trade elicis contract unless you find a team that just needs to take salary on to get to the floor.
[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, I believe there's still two years left of that albatross.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this year and next year.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm sorry, I misspoke.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's six point two five, not six five.
[SPEAKER_02]: Anywho.
[SPEAKER_02]: You could offload it.
[SPEAKER_02]: I doubt it's gonna happen.
[SPEAKER_02]: So moving on.
[SPEAKER_02]: Stuff around the league.
[SPEAKER_02]: Again, if you were in our discord, I told you a week ago that Mitch Marner was going to be in Vegas, Golden Knight.
[SPEAKER_02]: That happened.
[SPEAKER_02]: Around the league quickly.
[SPEAKER_02]: thoughts as we, uh, it's slowed up a little bit here.
[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, I'm guessing the devils have been told they are not in the Shabbonov sweepstakes because they literally in the last few minutes have signed one, two, three players all to League minimum-ish deals.
[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, back to the big stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: The good stuff as it were, [SPEAKER_02]: The stuff that happened today, I mean Vancouver Resign Fetched Demco to a eight point five a year ticket for three years.
[SPEAKER_02]: That was a big boy deal.
[SPEAKER_02]: Logan Stankov and got his eight year deal, only six million.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's kind of how Carolina does.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that contract's gonna age beautifully.
[SPEAKER_02]: The one that annoyed me because I thought and it had been reported that the flyers were in on Jake Allen.
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, Jake Allen would have been worth a little bit of an overpay.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would have done a one year deal at [SPEAKER_02]: you know, four, four and a half.
[SPEAKER_02]: He instead signed a five year ticket at one point eight a year.
[SPEAKER_02]: So a nine million dollar total deal, but it's a five year contract.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think he took some term and some security in that term, but he left a lot of money on the table in my opinion.
[SPEAKER_02]: The question then is what if he has a bad year on a one year deal?
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, yeah, that's the risk to take.
[SPEAKER_02]: The Devore Act deal already mentioned.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just kind of scrolling through the league here.
[SPEAKER_02]: William McClendon resigns in San Jose, five point six at three, Brock Besser resigns in Vancouver.
[SPEAKER_02]: They are an interesting, they are an interesting time in Vancouver.
[SPEAKER_02]: The big, the big winner of the day with the New York Rangers, they got a lot of Slav Karakov, seven by seven.
[SPEAKER_02]: He was the best available defenseman after you saw the resigning of our old friend, Ivan Proverov, who is going to stay in Columbus, the rest of his life.
[SPEAKER_02]: Good luck to you, brother.
[SPEAKER_02]: Joel Armia.
[SPEAKER_02]: And let me get the rest of the list, because I'm going to talk a minute about who I really like coming out of free agency.
[SPEAKER_02]: So Joel Armillo, Corey Perry, Anton Forzberg, Cody C.C.
[SPEAKER_02]: N.
Brian Dumlin, all sign with LA.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm pretty sure L.A.
[SPEAKER_02]: is going to be good.
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, they still have just under six million in space, but you've got in addition to Kevin Fiala, on Zacoa, Patar, Quentin, by field, Philip DeNo, they add a bunch of back end help.
[SPEAKER_02]: Drew Dowdy's got some help.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think Anton for, for his Bergen Darcy camper are a solid tandem.
[SPEAKER_02]: I like LA to threaten in the west obviously Vegas who are currently seven point six one million over the cap, but it was reported earlier this week late last week.
[SPEAKER_02]: I can't remember I've been up for a while.
[SPEAKER_02]: That Alex Petrangelo is probably not going to play this year.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that's eight point eight million that comes off on LTIR and at that point you're a million under the cap.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they're good in that regard.
[SPEAKER_02]: still lost tiles, anyway, free agency.
[SPEAKER_02]: Listen, you couldn't have, most teams ended up resigning guys or extending guys.
[SPEAKER_02]: There wasn't a turn of crazy movement other than Marner, but that was a trade.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it wasn't a crazy day.
[SPEAKER_02]: The only teams that I think that got decidedly better, the New York Rangers, but we still don't know what they are because, you know, they won the president's trophy two years ago.
[SPEAKER_02]: Last year they were abjectly terrible and in the lottery.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, they could be a playoff team.
[SPEAKER_02]: They could be in the McKenna sweepstakes.
[SPEAKER_02]: We don't know.
[SPEAKER_02]: Same thing with the flyers.
[SPEAKER_02]: The flyers need to have a decent goal-tending year.
[SPEAKER_02]: They've got three guys and they need to be league average.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that when you look at the potential pairings and matchups as I get to the flyers roster, you know, [SPEAKER_02]: Let's take a look at the depth chart.
[SPEAKER_02]: Pop up videos of the worst in twenty twenty five.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the your top line I'm assuming is going to be.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's tough to tell.
[SPEAKER_02]: So you've got Mitch Kovkateria, Connectney, but that might not be the line.
[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously we saw that line a lot last season.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, not a lot, but we saw it sparingly and when we saw it, it was entertaining.
[SPEAKER_02]: You've got Zegris in tip it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Left wing is a huge question mark because of Forster's injury and we don't know about shabin' off.
[SPEAKER_02]: Brink Cates enables the Laurier the fourth line and a lot of people are gonna hate on this fourth line because, you know, it's the Laurier who everyone thinks shouldn't be here run year four of his deal.
[SPEAKER_02]: garnet half away who I like and I think a lot of people do to and then devour it that's going to be a tough line that's going to be a physical line to play against and that's a good thing um defense i'm assuming york isn't going anywhere and you've got sandheim with sealer dries deal with york and then rista line and when he comes back from injury mixes in with [SPEAKER_02]: Zamula Andre.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, they've got options.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think the team has improved over the course of this week.
[SPEAKER_02]: Is it a playoff team?
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_02]: The goal-tending has to be there.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's really all this is.
[SPEAKER_02]: If the goal-tending's there, they could be good.
[SPEAKER_02]: If the goal-tending's not there, we could be in the McKenna sweepstakes, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: I will say I expect the team to be really entertaining this year.
[SPEAKER_02]: Just with the addition of Zegras with a lot of younger guys for threatening.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's the other thing we haven't talked about yet.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of guys threatening.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go with miners.
[SPEAKER_02]: So obviously there's JetLooChanko.
[SPEAKER_02]: You've also got guys like Grubankin.
[SPEAKER_02]: you've got Alex Bump, twenty one years old on his ELC.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a couple of guys that really like Rizzo.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not as big a proponent, but you can get my point.
[SPEAKER_02]: Then you've got Barkey still loaned, Bunk, who's still on loan prospects for everybody you just added.
[SPEAKER_02]: The team [SPEAKER_02]: All right, tiles just texting in.
[SPEAKER_02]: I got tiles back.
[SPEAKER_02]: But before you got cut off, I was talking about, you know, that basically the long story short, this team will be entertaining to watch.
[SPEAKER_02]: This team has a shot to be, you know, looking at a wild card if they get decent gold tending out of the three.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he's gone again.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he's back again.
[SPEAKER_02]: And if they get decent gold tending from the three, [SPEAKER_02]: They might actually be something.
[SPEAKER_02]: I also think you're going to have a bunch of kids.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to have the kids actually press.
[SPEAKER_02]: I expect JetLooChank to press for a job on the big club.
[SPEAKER_03]: I really don't see why he wouldn't just be on the team.
[SPEAKER_02]: He might have to spend some time in the A.
It depends how he looks in camp.
[SPEAKER_03]: I guess, I mean, with how desperate they are for centers.
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, now I know they have Zegres and they got they just signed today and Christian Devoreck.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but they still, they need help and they need left wingers.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, listen, Forster and Shabbin' off right there, you're fine.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not, [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not as worried as I think a lot of people expected me to be.
[SPEAKER_02]: I truly think this is going to be the most entertaining version of the flyers we've had since like, seventeen, eighteen, you know, where you had vorchecks, Simmons and Drew all at the height of their powers granted that wasn't a very good height, but I expect this team to be good.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I feel like playoffs is a pretty fair expectation for at least being there until the end.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if nothing else.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: The last game.
[SPEAKER_02]: And listen, worst case if the goal-tending of all three of them are absolutely terrible.
[SPEAKER_02]: What's the problem?
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, we're in a twenty six is a very deep draft.
[SPEAKER_02]: Again, after Gavin McKenna, there's still six or seven guys at this way to early stage that are on a tier above, like on the same tier as the top five or six this year.
[SPEAKER_02]: So what are we really talking about?
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a very the only risk is they they finish like fourteenth and [SPEAKER_03]: You know, well, if we know the flyers.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm, I'm actually giving Danny Brear the benefit of the doubt.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm very happy with what he's done.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that this is a decided change from, you know, hex to all in Chuck Fletcher.
[SPEAKER_02]: I've even come around on the Rick talk at things.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not there with the talk it thing, but I will say for the first time in twelve or thirteen years, it does feel like there's a legitimate direction and like idea for where they want this franchise to go.
[SPEAKER_03]: And then also, number thirty-nine kind of masks a lot.
[SPEAKER_03]: Like he'll be abandoned for a lot of shortcomings this team maybe can address.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
[SPEAKER_02]: I expect him without the Tordarella training wheels, so to say, being on, I expect him to be dynamic and incredibly entertaining.
[SPEAKER_02]: I really am looking forward to them on the power play because you're going to have Trevor Ziegris and Montvey Mitch Koff on the same unit, most likely.
[SPEAKER_02]: With Travis Connectney.
[SPEAKER_02]: They fired the power play guy, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they replaced him.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: I have high hopes anyway.
[SPEAKER_02]: Boy, I could keep talking.
[SPEAKER_02]: I also touched on the rest of the league.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think the kings got good.
[SPEAKER_02]: They added a lot of veteran depth on short-term deals, Cody C.C.
[SPEAKER_02]: Backup goalie and Anton Forzberg, Corey Perry, which means they're probably going to lose the Stanley Cup final because [SPEAKER_02]: That's what happens when you have Cory Perry.
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I expect them to be good.
[SPEAKER_02]: I expect Dallas to still be good.
[SPEAKER_02]: I expect Vegas to be.
[SPEAKER_02]: Vegas is going to be nasty at the top of their lineup.
[SPEAKER_03]: Um, yeah, I can't every every off season.
[SPEAKER_03]: I feel like they get somebody like how they got me tomorrow now.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I feel like every off season, like, how do they still have money?
[SPEAKER_02]: they move players out they they they do not there is no sentimentality in that franchise which someone like me who's very analytical and numbers driven I actually like it but yeah there's not a lot of loyalty to the guys that were the original misfits or the cup winners and I said it while you were disconnected Alex Petrangelo is probably not he said he's not going to play next year [SPEAKER_02]: One, I think that has to do with the new LTIR rules coming into effect, but two, I think he might be injured enough to wear, he might be done.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's how they're going to be under the cap.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're currently seven point six over.
[SPEAKER_02]: But once that goes on LTIR, they're cap compliance.
[SPEAKER_03]: Gotcha.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: So very quick to wrap up looking at next summer a year from now.
[SPEAKER_03]: How much cap space do the flyers actually have?
[SPEAKER_03]: And my wishful thinking of I'm going to ruin your day, but that's fine.
[SPEAKER_03]: What's the funny right?
[SPEAKER_03]: What's that?
[SPEAKER_03]: You don't have much money next summer.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no, they'll have forty six and a half million dollars.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's assume the the cap will be moving up to one oh four.
[SPEAKER_02]: And now we'll go to the roster.
[SPEAKER_02]: Who will need to be signed?
[SPEAKER_02]: Trevor Ziegres.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: uh...
devorac and deloriao both the uf a's thanks for coming bobby brink jamey drizzel egos moola uh...
[SPEAKER_02]: And Sam Erson, I've been fed it off as well, but I expect him to be out and Erson to be staying.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's an RFA.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that's going to eat up a chunk of your money.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now I'm going to ruin it for you.
[SPEAKER_02]: Here's why it's not going to happen.
[SPEAKER_02]: The oilers moved out a lot of salary, and I don't know if you saw Evan Bershard.
[SPEAKER_02]: I saw him in extension.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and you're funny that you know the exact thing that I'm talking about without even saying.
[SPEAKER_02]: Here's why McDavid's not going to even hit the market.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I would expect if he is happy with the moves made by the oilers this summer, and they've moved players out, and they're, you know, let me pull up what they've done.
[SPEAKER_02]: They've done a lot in the [SPEAKER_02]: last couple of days.
[SPEAKER_02]: Recyn Booshard at a big boy hit.
[SPEAKER_02]: Caspary cap and in David Thomas II.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, listen, facility put calls in.
[SPEAKER_02]: These are not these are not sexy names.
[SPEAKER_02]: I understand that.
[SPEAKER_02]: their blue line is basically two guys and then some replacement level players.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Brett Koolock, Jake Walman, our wallman, excuse me, but they've got Bouchard and Darnell nurse.
[SPEAKER_02]: They are currently playing with four and a half million dollars this season.
[SPEAKER_02]: If he's happy with the moves they make, I wouldn't be surprised in McDavid signs a two or three year extension.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hear me out on this for about fifteen to sixteen million per [SPEAKER_02]: which would again reset the market it'd be the highest paid player but it wouldn't be a max deal and it extends the window in Edmonton for two years and then after the salary cap situation has been normalized and we know where it's at then he can go free agent hunting [SPEAKER_02]: That's what I think's going to happen.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think it is very unlikely.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's entirely possible though.
[SPEAKER_02]: What you're saying, unlike I'm not trying to completely put out the fire, but I'm trying to call it a little bit.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's fair.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's entirely possible.
[SPEAKER_02]: He gets fed up and goes fuck it.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to take my, I'll go to free agency.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's possible.
[SPEAKER_03]: I just don't think it's going to happen.
[SPEAKER_03]: The best hockey player on the planet makes TJ McCottle money.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I hate the way that sports.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I hate it.
[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, I also, the flyers would have to be, the flyers would basically have to be in the eastern conference finals for him to consider them.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I agree.
[SPEAKER_03]: And like if he leaves, if he were to leave Edmonton, he's going to a legitimately great team that has the catch base.
[SPEAKER_02]: Just by taking a quick peek, [SPEAKER_02]: You know who where he could go?
[SPEAKER_03]: Where's that?
[SPEAKER_02]: Montreal.
[SPEAKER_03]: Hmm.
[SPEAKER_03]: That wouldn't be, I mean, that'd be terrible for Edmonton.
[SPEAKER_02]: Here's why Carrie Price's deal expires at the end of this upcoming season.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's ten and a half million dollars.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're also going to lose Patrick Lyna's eight point seven million.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that's it right there.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's more than enough.
[SPEAKER_03]: Just that alone.
[SPEAKER_02]: And Mike Matheson's four point eight million.
[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, and they remember they've added.
[SPEAKER_02]: They've got a bunch, you know, Nick Suzuki and Cole Callfield, neither of them are making over eight million.
[SPEAKER_02]: You're on slow off.
[SPEAKER_02]: Coffee's not making over.
[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody's making over eight million except Patrick Lainay and a guy who, well, no a dobson, but let's be very clear.
[SPEAKER_02]: No a dobson was going to get the bag.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they're a good young core.
[SPEAKER_02]: They've got talent at every level.
[SPEAKER_02]: If McDavid would join that team, how would how do they not win a Stanley Cup or two or three?
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: No, I agree.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's a disaster scenario.
[SPEAKER_02]: In ten.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, God.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And in Toronto.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, God.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, if Montreal were to win it with McDavid, [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Everyone who doesn't, uh, probably able from, say, would be in shambles.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's bad.
[SPEAKER_03]: But great.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it would be entertaining.
[SPEAKER_02]: So anyway, I, I, I think the flyers are done.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think the only piece left to shove an off and I feel like it's going to happen.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that instantly juices their, their line up.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: I was just going to say I'd be really excited to see him on on the actual Flyers team.
[SPEAKER_03]: Like I agree with you.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's a really like sexy and exciting signing.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: He was one of the best players in the K on a bed team.
[SPEAKER_02]: Point per game.
[SPEAKER_02]: If he can be close to that, they're scoring on this team now.
[SPEAKER_03]: We have scoring.
[SPEAKER_03]: especially if gress.
[SPEAKER_03]: He is like the ultimate just change.
[SPEAKER_03]: I feel like he's just the ultimate change of scenery guy.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure you talked about it a lot last week, but it just feels like him in a different jersey in a different city.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's, I think it's gonna click.
[SPEAKER_02]: I agree.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think he is going, and he's also gonna be behind.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're not a relevant team right now in terms of the hockey landscape, but it's still a passionate fan base in a passionate city.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I expect once he sees that, you know, once he see, we might not be original six, but we are, you know, the seventh team in the history of the league.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think he's going to have Matt Day feed them to.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the two of them together.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then before anybody, you know, they're not going to try a double Michigan.
[SPEAKER_02]: However, I do expect some crazy Michigan attempts.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you don't know what I'm talking about, Google, Montvay, Mitch Koff, LaCrosse goal or Trevor Ziegres, Michigan goal, did the same thing, the Michigan and the LaCrosse goal.
[SPEAKER_02]: The two best Michigan slash LaCrosse goal scores on planet Earth, both play for the flyers.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm very excited.
[SPEAKER_02]: I am too.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're even if they're terrible.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to be entertaining and they'll have a shot at a Gavin McKenna.
[SPEAKER_02]: Add Gavin McKenna to this.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm good.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that people forget all about McDavid.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they it's just exciting to see like there's actual talent like really talented players on this team and they're actually moving in a proper direction.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I loved any brears and the polling complex drafting nothing but gigantic guys.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that was a one-off and I think he knows.
[SPEAKER_02]: Listen, I don't want to, I hope I'm not wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think he knows he's getting chabin' off.
[SPEAKER_02]: Chabin' off's tiny, like Breir tiny.
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, makes Motve look tall.
[SPEAKER_02]: Gotcha.
[SPEAKER_02]: Again, Motve ain't not a big guy.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, five, ten.
[SPEAKER_02]: Motve is tall comparatively.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we look at the cap situation for them.
[SPEAKER_02]: But Montme is going to be eligible to sign an extension this time next year, literally today.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're in a sixty five days from now.
[SPEAKER_02]: He'll have one year left on his ELC and he is eligible to sign an extension with what you've seen so far.
[SPEAKER_02]: Are you prepared to give him the eight year deal?
[SPEAKER_03]: I guess my question is would he be willing to take that or he wanted to eat up his RFA years and wait for the cap to go up and then sign an even bigger deal?
[SPEAKER_02]: I think if you offered him enough money to be the highest paid player in the history of the Philadelphia Flyers, I bet you he would do it.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, there's no reason to not.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the thing is the highest paid player in the history of the Philadelphia Flyers, you'd have to pay him like nine.
[SPEAKER_03]: So here's the question, is he, does, you'd have to pay him NZ gris next summer, technically, if you, if you want, if you want it, if you wouldn't have to, you have to give Z gris, he's an RFA though.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's restricted.
[SPEAKER_03]: Because I was going to say his contract, depending on how he plays this year, might actually be the biggest in team history.
[SPEAKER_03]: Before Mitch Cough's is the next biggest in team history.
[SPEAKER_02]: Unless he really returns to form and breaks out, you're probably going to be able to get him for less than Tippet.
[SPEAKER_03]: I would take that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, anybody would.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a little surprised, Tippet still a flyer.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to level with you.
[SPEAKER_02]: I've been kind of waiting for that shoe to drop all week.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's why I wanted to make sure you were on with me if possible because known, known Tippet hater tiles.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's me.
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I expected him to be traded.
[SPEAKER_02]: I thought he was going to Edmonton.
[SPEAKER_03]: It just makes sense, especially that even, I mean, if I believe you that it's still like a relatively, it's not a bad contract.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's just maybe a little bit more money than he should have.
[SPEAKER_03]: So like he's a tradable asset.
[SPEAKER_03]: He's the fastest player in the league.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so like I would expect him to be moved, especially because he's a right winger as well, and they have too many of that.
[SPEAKER_02]: We got all the wings.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, one last time, and then I swear people will move off hockey.
[SPEAKER_03]: It would be a funny bit, though.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you are technically listed as both left and right.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_02]: But when you look at the depth chart, [SPEAKER_02]: He's listed as a right winner.
[SPEAKER_02]: If he prefers the right side.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, just looking at this perceived depth chart.
[SPEAKER_02]: When Forster comes back, Forster comes back and you bring Shabbin' off in and I'm happy with the line up.
[SPEAKER_02]: I actually think I'm gonna be, I think everyone's gonna get excited about the Forth line.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're gonna be annoyingly shit.
[SPEAKER_02]: Deloria de Vorak and Hathaway.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're just gonna eat guys for lunch.
[SPEAKER_02]: That is a very flyers line.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, might be the last time, too, because there's a lot of town.
[SPEAKER_02]: I was saying this right when you disconnected.
[SPEAKER_02]: You got Barkey, Bump, Bunk, Luchenko, Grabenkin.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there's guys.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's young guys that are gonna push for spots.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, that is fifty five minutes on the flyers.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now it's going to be less than that because Kevin just stitched together two recordings and I gave you a three minute saliliqui intro.
[SPEAKER_02]: But that's the longest I've ever talked to.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I've got a smile on my face.
[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's ruin it by talking about other shit.
[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to close with the fillies.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to close with the fillies.
[SPEAKER_03]: We'll knock out the two.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think we'll be the fastest.
[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to do a quick union or a union or NBA.
[SPEAKER_03]: Go.
[SPEAKER_03]: If we were following the bit that we started, [SPEAKER_03]: The loss on Sunday saved you from thirty three minutes of unchecked union conversation because they had won eleven games and a were they had won eleven games they didn't lost the game eleven so they finally was burnt I would have burnt down everything they would have never ever that this would be lost media if I had to listen to that [SPEAKER_03]: So there's still good.
[SPEAKER_03]: They had a rough loss on the road, but it was at Columbus who's one of the better teams.
[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, they lost one to nothing there.
[SPEAKER_03]: It is what it is.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's not even a link in my opinion.
[SPEAKER_03]: The Columbus crew.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: They didn't have even their, their full roster because they're, they're, they're international visa lawyer, whoever on their team just sucks.
[SPEAKER_03]: Tyburyba was stuck overseas.
[SPEAKER_03]: and wasn't available.
[SPEAKER_03]: They do this every year somehow.
[SPEAKER_03]: They get guys stuck in their countries and they can't come back.
[SPEAKER_03]: But he is back.
[SPEAKER_03]: So we're good there.
[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, they're just checking along.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's all you need to know.
[SPEAKER_03]: There's still the number one team in the right.
[SPEAKER_02]: I do want to touch on it because I did it in the in the cold open or whatever you can call that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Have you followed any of the club roll cup?
[SPEAKER_02]: Not closely now.
[SPEAKER_02]: I know the game.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_03]: Really cool.
[SPEAKER_03]: Like the crowds.
[SPEAKER_02]: The club roll cup has proven that the MLS is not a serious league.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like none of these MLS teams deserve to be on the same field as some of these teams.
[SPEAKER_02]: It is nice that Miami's in and they kind of shoehorned them in.
[SPEAKER_02]: I guess so that messy could be included, but like they're getting boat race by teams.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna pull up the.
[SPEAKER_03]: Now that checks out.
[SPEAKER_03]: the checks out entirely.
[SPEAKER_03]: Cause even like the best team in MLS is like the hundredth best team like eighty to a hundred best in the world.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, let's let's go.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's just take a look here.
[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
[SPEAKER_02]: Miami did be Porto.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll give him that Seattle Sounders got boat raised by Atlético.
[SPEAKER_02]: LA football club got beat by a team from Tunisia.
[SPEAKER_02]: Do I have to keep going?
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going.
[SPEAKER_02]: Do we all get my point?
[SPEAKER_02]: One more match week.
[SPEAKER_02]: One more match week.
[SPEAKER_02]: PSG made Seattle look silly.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Inter Miami couldn't beat Palmaras.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, they're, they're, they're beating, they can't beat the lower level teams.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was very nice of the club world cup to orchestrate it in a way that they didn't have to play the Chelsea's and the Bayerns of the world until the round of sixteen, which was earlier this week, slash weekend, where let's see.
[SPEAKER_02]: PSG for Nill over Miami.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's all I'm doing.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's enough.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: We can move on.
[SPEAKER_03]: The MLS is not a real leak, but the union are a good team in said leak.
[SPEAKER_03]: So just valid.
[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, the next one, let's do sixers.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's just get it out there.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's, the free agencies open.
[SPEAKER_02]: I said this at the top of the show before tiles join.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're in the middle of MBA free agency too.
[SPEAKER_02]: Have the sixers lost anyone yet?
[SPEAKER_03]: Not yet, they're going to lose, unfortunately, Yavisulay.
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know how they can't work out a contract with him.
[SPEAKER_03]: It feels kind of ridiculous to let him go after how he was pretty productive while he was here.
[SPEAKER_03]: But it's fine.
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, they'll let him go.
[SPEAKER_03]: It sounds like they're going to be able to keep Quentin Grimes.
[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, last week, they drafted VJ Edgecom and, you know, [SPEAKER_03]: take what you want from that.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not going to sit here and pretend I know the VJ is good and or bad at basketball.
[SPEAKER_03]: All I felt like between picks three and seven.
[SPEAKER_03]: It was kind of interchangeable athletic guys.
[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, whatever, hopefully he's the one that works.
[SPEAKER_03]: Ace Bailey.
[SPEAKER_02]: I enjoyed the story.
[SPEAKER_02]: I, of course, enjoyed the good morning America.
[SPEAKER_02]: Ask bit with his mom and his brother and, you know, [SPEAKER_02]: I think he's an idiot.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what he, like, I don't.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's one thing if you're, like, a little bit.
[SPEAKER_02]: Enjoy Utah dipshit.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: If you're, like, a LeBron James level prospect.
[SPEAKER_03]: I get trying to force your weight.
[SPEAKER_03]: Like you have some level of leverage.
[SPEAKER_03]: But you were at best the third best prospect in a week draft.
[SPEAKER_03]: And you had a lot of question marks on you.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't know what your plan was to try and force your weight to.
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't even know where you wanted to go.
[SPEAKER_03]: I ultimately.
[SPEAKER_03]: So you went to a team that you didn't work out with.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I hope that I hope Utah calls his bluff and I hope like he tries to force a trade.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I hope he never plays in the NBA.
[SPEAKER_03]: I want a team to do that.
[SPEAKER_03]: I wanted the six years to do that to Ben Simmons so badly when he said, if you don't, I did to I remember that.
[SPEAKER_03]: If I wanted them to be like, if he's like, if you don't trade me, I'm never going to, I'm never going to, I'm going to sit out to you trade me and they go, okay, enjoy the end of your career.
[SPEAKER_03]: By the way, that's the sixers.
[SPEAKER_03]: They're kind of a mess, but the east is so bad.
[SPEAKER_03]: Um, they could be a top four seed.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hedge comments is a meaningful contributor with Grimes.
[SPEAKER_02]: You've got a healthy Macan and Maxi and if you get a decent PG and a twenty five game in bead that doesn't suck, they're the four seed.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's probably the NBA, especially Boston is, Boston is tanking.
[SPEAKER_03]: They are.
[SPEAKER_02]: In the front, as soon as they sell the franchise, then they immediately go into the tank and they're just going to collect checks for a while.
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, they were in like cap, not even cap hell, like cap light.
[SPEAKER_03]: It was just like horrific.
[SPEAKER_03]: They basically said we're going to do we're going to either win the championship last year and this year or one or the other and then we're going to figure it out.
[SPEAKER_03]: So now they're figuring it out and [SPEAKER_03]: They're, yeah, they are in an abysmal situation, which is, again, why it's so funny that like, the sixers going on some sort of run in the playoffs next year is not outlandish because the East is just that bad.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, well, please don't take what tiles is saying as they have a shot, they do not have a shot.
[SPEAKER_03]: That is, so that is more of a comment on how bad the East is and not necessarily a comment on how good the sixers are.
[SPEAKER_03]: correct.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_02]: Wanted to make sure we hit that.
[SPEAKER_02]: The topic I expect us to talk about more than the last two.
[SPEAKER_02]: The WNBA is coming to Philadelphia.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hell yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm actually kind of excited.
[SPEAKER_02]: Mostly because I know I'll go to games with you and your wife.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we're both very excited for it.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I think we were tossing around the name ideas.
[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
[SPEAKER_03]: So we're going to get to that because [SPEAKER_02]: Don't take this the wrong way, Tiles, but I had a conversation with your wife.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: About the name, about the name, calm down everybody.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to get into that in a minute, but three more teams getting added that's going to bring the league up by twenty thirty to a total of eighteen if I'm not mistaken.
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're adding Boston, terrible name, by the way.
[SPEAKER_02]: Who else, uh, depost and Detroit and Philadelphia?
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, beating out bids from places that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we're a real city.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry, but I'm not sorry.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's just insane that it took this long for the city of Philadelphia to get one.
[SPEAKER_03]: It is with the basketball history in this town.
[SPEAKER_03]: It is pretty crazy that it took this long, but I am just happy it's happening.
[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, Cleveland is the other one to bring it to eighteen.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I think the reason it took so long is because one ownership wasn't really a thing and I do we know who the owners are gonna be?
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, Josh Harris put in the bid to like make it happen.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's Josh Harris blitzer.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's the where it's the sixers ownership.
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it'll be somebody else when he sells the sixers to fund his commander, stadium indeed.
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
[SPEAKER_02]: But we reported that first and I will beat you all over the head because we nailed that a year and a half ago.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think if I were to make Dawn Staley hinted that she wouldn't want to coach the team, she would want to own the team if she was going to be involved in the Philly WMBA team.
[SPEAKER_03]: So she's at least a public facing owner, maybe to a certain degree.
[SPEAKER_03]: Another person that I would give her a piece just for the P.R.
[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I think another one that I could totally see, Jaylin.
[SPEAKER_03]: I could totally see this being something that Jaylin has heavily involved in.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that would play.
[SPEAKER_02]: Listen, the twenty-thirty is going to coincide.
[SPEAKER_02]: Is that right before the new building?
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's the year before the new building opens, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: So by doing that, Josh Harris will have more dates in the new building, which means more ticket revenue.
[SPEAKER_02]: One of the conversations I had with Tiles wife, actually, was about tickets.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I was saying, like, we got to understand something.
[SPEAKER_02]: All premium, sixers and flyers, season ticket holders are going to be forced to carry these tickets.
[SPEAKER_02]: And her schedule [SPEAKER_02]: I appreciate what happened in Golden State with the Valkyries every building does this.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you have court side or a box or a suite, they make you buy everything.
[SPEAKER_02]: That includes all the concerts too.
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's just more dates, but I do expect the thing to do decently well.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I can't imagine why not, especially if it's priced right, it'll be a sellout.
[SPEAKER_02]: If they price it right, [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I told since they get the the Philadelphia team will get the first pick over all I believe the year that in twenty thirty.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I jokingly said to my wife, it was like the most out of context, like, don't clip that phrase.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, we can start checking the out high school basketball games and see, you know, check out.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's a good point.
[SPEAKER_03]: These high school girls, like they did was Zion Williamson when he was in like eighth grade.
[SPEAKER_02]: We've got a justification.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm not going to do that.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're talking to watch anyway.
[SPEAKER_02]: Let's get into the name.
[SPEAKER_02]: So [SPEAKER_02]: Tiles wife, full disclosure, thinks they should be the Philadelphia Bells, Philadelphia Liberty Bells.
[SPEAKER_02]: I've seen that one floated all over social media.
[SPEAKER_03]: The other, not the bells is spelled B-E-L-L-E-S.
[SPEAKER_02]: The other one I saw floated, and I actually floated myself was the Philadelphia Freedom.
[SPEAKER_03]: Um, apparently both were actually already used as Philadelphia team names.
[SPEAKER_03]: By the way, she did tell me you said freedom.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I knew that one.
[SPEAKER_03]: The two that we came up with, there was a bunch.
[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, but Renegades Commodores.
[SPEAKER_03]: Shocked never gonna happen, but a good idea.
[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and then there's so many it could be, but I think the majority of the league has like, [SPEAKER_03]: the name that is not a plural word.
[SPEAKER_03]: So freedom would make sense in that category.
[SPEAKER_03]: Bring back rage.
[SPEAKER_02]: Philadelphia rage was an ABL team.
[SPEAKER_02]: The Philadelphia freedom was apparently a team in the nineteen seventies.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't know of what sport, but apparently that is why the song is [SPEAKER_02]: That's why Elton John wrote the song.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's apparently already been a team.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the Philadelphia Liberty Bells are a professional roller derby team.
[SPEAKER_02]: Interesting.
[SPEAKER_02]: Things I found out on the internet doesn't mean that either of them couldn't be it, but knowing how things work with naming professional sports teams, I expect them to get a different name altogether.
[SPEAKER_03]: Either way, I look forward to them winning a championship before the six or six.
[SPEAKER_02]: One hundred percent.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, I'm actually excited.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_02]: Please temper this.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would go to one game a year.
[SPEAKER_02]: If Caitlin Clark is still in the league and I can get tickets, maybe two for additional context.
[SPEAKER_03]: You go to one MBA game every decade.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's on track.
[SPEAKER_02]: I go to one NBA game per decade.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's actually on track.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just not your sport.
[SPEAKER_02]: So that's more of a...
No, no, because I love college.
[SPEAKER_02]: I go to at least one or two college hoops games a year.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: I love college hoops.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't like pro hoops anyway.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would go just, you know, not to every game.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would go to one or two a year.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that is more, that is a ton more than I would say I would go to a six years game.
[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, as we round into an hour and tenish minutes after edits, and I'm sure at some point in there, Kev told you where to find a social media, discord, all that good stuff.
[SPEAKER_03]: Don't we talk baseball now, buddy?
[SPEAKER_03]: This is the most infuriating, ninety seven wind team I've ever seen.
[SPEAKER_03]: I just, this team, they're not wrong.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they're probably going to win the division.
[SPEAKER_03]: They're probably for the ninth season in a row going to improve their record from the year prior.
[SPEAKER_03]: And they're just, oh my god.
[SPEAKER_03]: So to start with the positives, this starting rotation is absolutely disgusting.
[SPEAKER_03]: I, since I don't have the internet, I can't pull up the stats.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a shame there's only one side.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, I like it's Zach Wheeler, Ranger Suarez, Christopher Sanchez, [SPEAKER_03]: Hazel's a Zardo outside of those two bizarre starts, filthy.
[SPEAKER_03]: They've been unbelievable.
[SPEAKER_03]: I just like, it, every, not see didn't say Aaron Nola their folks.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, what if he returns to form?
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, all kidding aside, if they get actual good Aaron Nola back, like in like, you know, ended July early August and along with when they get Andrew Painter up on this roster.
[SPEAKER_03]: like this this starting pitching staff is just and I was thinking about this early today and I feel confident saying it you know I'll be if they carry it the rest of the way this is better than the twenty eleven uh...
rotates like super rotation like this is just oh yeah this is better than how it handles um...
lee [SPEAKER_03]: who else is on that eleven ten panels holiday lea as well and it was all was eleven i thought he was ten years both okay thank you twenty ten i wish for get him um...
but yet like this it's every night it it's a look seven innings one run or six innings no runs and they've a losing record over the last ten games but it's just not by mode do they really [SPEAKER_03]: So this past week, they lost three games last week.
[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe came one of, I believe, six teams ever in MLB history to play a three game series, allow four runs or less and get swept.
[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and that happened in Houston last week.
[SPEAKER_03]: And then they took.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's, I forgot about that series.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: So a bit watching a lot of hockey footage, a draft prep, a lot of [SPEAKER_02]: I need a vacation.
[SPEAKER_03]: The starting pitching unbelievable.
[SPEAKER_03]: I just, it's not the light to watch every single night.
[SPEAKER_03]: The problem is when the starting pitcher ends the inning and walks into the dugout and it now becomes the offense as responsibility to do anything.
[SPEAKER_03]: And it's just, it's a, it's a bismal.
[SPEAKER_03]: I just, I did, I did some quick math.
[SPEAKER_03]: How many more wins this year do you think they'd have at this point if they scored three runs again?
[SPEAKER_02]: Is it some stupid number that's going to really upset me?
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to say seven.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's ten.
[SPEAKER_03]: They'd have ten more.
[SPEAKER_03]: So you're talking over the course of the season, twenty more wins if you.
[SPEAKER_03]: And if they had those ten additional wins, they'd be they'd have the best record in a league by like Evan Games.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm like that's a little bit maybe it's a little much to expect them to, I don't know, score a run per game or something like that.
[SPEAKER_03]: But [SPEAKER_03]: It's just, it's crazy and there's no power at all.
[SPEAKER_03]: I know Kyle Schwarber or Sweet Baby Schwarber who's probably gone after the season.
[SPEAKER_03]: One hundred percent gone has twenty five.
[SPEAKER_03]: There's not another guy on the team that has more than nine.
[SPEAKER_02]: really?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's the only price Howard.
[SPEAKER_02]: Bryce Dallas Howard is an actress.
[SPEAKER_02]: Bryce Harper is a baseball player who doesn't hit homeruns anymore.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, he takes the fence he's been out for like a month now, but at the same time, he only has nine and he's played like, he games.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I like Turner's not a homerun guy.
[SPEAKER_02]: Real Muto's falling off.
[SPEAKER_02]: So who's I leave Cassiados?
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not talking about the kids.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so tired of talking about boom and stop that I just don't anymore.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I just this offense.
[SPEAKER_03]: I can't.
[SPEAKER_03]: And the thing to that's like really infuriating is at the beginning of the year in April and May, they you suck they weren't necessarily getting results, but you saw the attempt to be better at the play.
[SPEAKER_03]: They were seeing more pitches.
[SPEAKER_03]: They had a better on-base percentage.
[SPEAKER_03]: They were walking more than they normally had.
[SPEAKER_03]: And they've just thrown that out the window.
[SPEAKER_03]: They make no attempt to be productive and they just swing it garbage.
[SPEAKER_03]: And it's this weird thing where you feel insane because it's the fourth year in a row where this is clearly the problem with the team.
[SPEAKER_03]: And they're not going to fix it.
[SPEAKER_03]: Like this is just they're going to roll with this.
[SPEAKER_03]: And part of that is just the price for players now, especially with the third wild card, the price to get anyone at the deadline is like astronomical now, because no team sell because technically, like, it's actually seventy five percent.
[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody is, yeah, most of the league still alive.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: So unless you're offering like Andrew Panner, Aiden Miller in a trade, you're probably not going to get [SPEAKER_03]: what you want.
[SPEAKER_03]: I will say, I'm still having a, you have to, you have to make some sort of move just to wake this group up.
[SPEAKER_03]: You, and whether that's trading boom to somebody, I'm at the point where I love his defense, but I'm at the point where trading stock, I think is an option.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think trading Nick Custianos is an option.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think cutting Max Kepler.
[SPEAKER_03]: Does he have trade value?
[SPEAKER_03]: You'd have probably have to eat some money because he's signed through next year just to get him off the roster and bring Justin Crawford up or something like this team.
[SPEAKER_03]: I actually don't hate that idea.
[SPEAKER_03]: This team feels too comfortable with being bad.
[SPEAKER_03]: And, or specifically, let me put it as white.
[SPEAKER_03]: The offense.
[SPEAKER_03]: Pitching, starting pitching, no notes.
[SPEAKER_03]: Bullpen.
[SPEAKER_03]: You're not ten, ten, no notes.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, ten out of ten.
[SPEAKER_03]: You're wonderful.
[SPEAKER_03]: My sweet baby boy is everything's great.
[SPEAKER_03]: No notes.
[SPEAKER_03]: Bullpen, you guys got fucked by ownership who decided to not give you any talent.
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, they intentionally tried to have a bullpen, like a budget bullpen.
[SPEAKER_03]: And like the guys they have, I think are trying their best, but just not good enough.
[SPEAKER_03]: And then it's the offense though, ultimately.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's just this offense.
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't understand how an entire team doesn't know how to hit for weeks at a time.
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't understand how you can regularly not manage more than two or three runs a night.
[SPEAKER_03]: And another thing that I worry about in the long term of this season is I love this starting pitching, as I just said, I trust them.
[SPEAKER_03]: They're all monsters.
[SPEAKER_03]: But if you have to go six straight months and two hundred innings of pitching, knowing if you allow one run, you might lose.
[SPEAKER_03]: That is going to wear on you over the course of a season.
[SPEAKER_02]: I, I agree with everything you've said.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would like to shake the team up, make a move.
[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I really like that Cassiana's idea the more I think about it, just because, especially, so he's been playing some like, comically checked out baseball since the, the benching.
[SPEAKER_03]: He's like, it seems not interested anymore.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I think him or the firing have a long thing.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I know like he's one of the few righties in the lineup and Justin Crawford is a lefty who might not be able to hit it the big leagues, but you got to do something.
[SPEAKER_03]: These guys, I called and I still stand by this.
[SPEAKER_03]: This offense is soft and they feel way too comfortable with being soft.
[SPEAKER_03]: You need to do something.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't disagree.
[SPEAKER_02]: One thing I did notice, there was a report that came out that the Pittsburgh Pirates basically said everything is available except skins and Maccuchon.
[SPEAKER_03]: First of all, Maccuchon really.
[SPEAKER_03]: That might just be him saying, I'm good.
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't want to go anywhere else.
[SPEAKER_03]: Whatever.
[SPEAKER_03]: What was his name?
[SPEAKER_03]: Uncle, what?
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I don't you tell I don't remember.
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't go Larry.
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't remember.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't remember.
[SPEAKER_02]: Even though even though his stopping Philadelphia was brief [SPEAKER_03]: Damn, he was awesome.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, he was on the list of guys.
[SPEAKER_03]: So like, growing up some of my favorite players were like Jim, Jim told me and like Roy Holiday.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm getting to see them actually become Philly's was really freaking cool.
[SPEAKER_03]: So as a, like, intro percussion was also in that category of just like one of my favorite players in the sport.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I was very happy to like see him end up on the Philly's.
[SPEAKER_03]: I just wish it.
[SPEAKER_02]: was better than what it ended up being, but I believe you brought the pirates because maybe is there anything worth robbing that big can we get some bullpen if they're if they're open for business and not a lot of teams are going to be [SPEAKER_03]: So you got to walk, right?
[SPEAKER_03]: Brian Reynolds is a really good outfielder and a right handed header.
[SPEAKER_03]: And then David Bednar is, I think he's a good David Bednar.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think he had a down your last year.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think he's having a relatively good season this year.
[SPEAKER_03]: If you could get both of those guys, I mean, that would cost you a fortune, but I mean, that is like check one and check two for things you need.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think my Brian Reynolds has been an outstanding outfielder for years now.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think he's more so closer, same with Bednar closer to the tail end, like you'd be getting him on the back end of the career, but you know, join the party, because that's the entire team.
[SPEAKER_03]: but you know, is that like getting bednard rentals, you know, is that something you're comfortable putting aid Miller on the table for, I mean, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_03]: The pirates are dumb.
[SPEAKER_03]: You might be able to get both of them for less than that.
[SPEAKER_03]: The other, the only army, the few names of them, cash considerations make their comeback.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they're a poverty franchise, so they would take money.
[SPEAKER_03]: You for Bob Park, poverty franchise.
[SPEAKER_03]: The other guy is the adult, I would say is on the angels for the Phillies, do you have a history of trading with?
[SPEAKER_03]: Is Taylor Ward?
[SPEAKER_03]: He is a right-handed power bat.
[SPEAKER_03]: He's actually career high in home runs this year.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think he's close.
[SPEAKER_03]: He's close in it on having not already, but like he will have like a forty home run season this year.
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, he's a, it's not me if you've heard this, he's a home run or strikeout guy.
[SPEAKER_03]: But he plays competent competent defense and he would be a for the market relatively cheap option.
[SPEAKER_03]: Like you could get him for maybe not one of your top five prospects.
[SPEAKER_03]: And he would be like a rental or I think you get one more year with him, but he would be another guy that would just write handed power back to plays the outfield.
[SPEAKER_03]: Outside of that, I don't know, there's not a ton out there.
[SPEAKER_03]: And really, you can lend bass this team for, I have no idea why after spending the billion plus dollars that they did, building the team that they did and being as close as they are for this pass-off season that go, [SPEAKER_03]: Let's stop here.
[SPEAKER_03]: Let's not spend anymore or do anything too drastic.
[SPEAKER_03]: Very weird.
[SPEAKER_02]: Uh-oh.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm losing tiles again.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, these back.
[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
[SPEAKER_02]: So we're almost done here.
[SPEAKER_02]: Season one, limp into the finish line on bay.
[SPEAKER_02]: Full disclosure, it is storming out and me and him are just trying to get this in the can.
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, whatever we'll be back.
[SPEAKER_03]: I'll like end it first season.
[SPEAKER_03]: Say it again.
[SPEAKER_03]: A heavily symbolic ending to the first season as we have broken internet and it's raining.
[SPEAKER_03]: And all hope is lost outside of.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, man, aside from the flyers, I've got hope.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm also a sucker.
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so as we finish up, we will be back.
[SPEAKER_02]: Listen, uh, programming note.
[SPEAKER_02]: This will be out on Thursday to lie third.
[SPEAKER_02]: Have a great fourth everybody.
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, [SPEAKER_02]: then not next Monday, but the Monday after Mark off round four, and that one's gonna be a long one.
[SPEAKER_02]: So if you miss the dulce that sound to my voice, I don't know why you would.
[SPEAKER_02]: That will be a very long episode if you are of the pro wrestling persuasion.
[SPEAKER_02]: I will be moderating the regular cast of characters over there.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then we will be back with a flagship show [SPEAKER_02]: I said that first full week of August and it is going to be baseball centric the reason I do that tiles twofold one if something ridiculous goes down while we are on hiatus for the month of July we will of course record something flyer six philly's union uh...
[SPEAKER_02]: obviously the flyers first and foremost, uh, anything calamitous or major or earthshattering groundbreaking, we will even if it's only a short twenty thirty minute, we will have something.
[SPEAKER_02]: We will drop us very special episode.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so excited.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so excited.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so scared.
[SPEAKER_02]: And [SPEAKER_02]: The other reason I mentioned it, we're gonna come back after the all-star break.
[SPEAKER_02]: Tiles, I need you to put on your magician hat.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, I was gonna say something, but it might not have been politically correct, so I'm not gonna say it.
[SPEAKER_02]: I want some predictions.
[SPEAKER_02]: Give me when we return, when we reconvene what have the fillies been up to over the last month.
[SPEAKER_03]: Go.
[SPEAKER_03]: So the unfortunate part of my brain says not much.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think they're going to be pretty hamstrung on the ability to get anyone.
[SPEAKER_03]: I do think a reliever is coming.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think despite what Dumbrausky said last week that, oh, with the Red Sox in twenty eighteen, we had a lot of success in the playoffs by putting starting pitchers in the bullpen.
[SPEAKER_03]: No, we're not doing that.
[SPEAKER_03]: That is stupid if that's the idea.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I do think he is playing coy there.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think there's going to be a top end reliever, just like last year when they got Carlos Estettas, somewhat of that caliber is going to be here.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it's going to be like a very underwhelming bat that's what my brain tells me.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's going to be a right hand or like an Austin Hayes type that they can get cheap.
[SPEAKER_03]: And I think they're just going to bank that this offense at some point can figure it out.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't think I think they're going to keep choking along.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think they're going to keep winning games.
[SPEAKER_02]: My next question is going to be are they still in first place?
[SPEAKER_03]: I think so.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think a month from now there's still in first place.
[SPEAKER_03]: You got to keep in mind if the fillies are playing poorly, the meds are disintegrating like like a nuclear reactor at the moment.
[SPEAKER_03]: So some things never change.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, shockingly, they have an incredible top five of their lineup, the other four are automatic outs, and their rotation is finally coming back to Earth, which took even longer than, like, I've been saying all year, their rotations, not actually good.
[SPEAKER_03]: It took until now for that to happen.
[SPEAKER_03]: So I think they're still in first place.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think we're in nearly the same exact spot, which is both a good thing, because that means they're gonna keep winning games, but a terrifying thing, because that means they're not gonna change anything.
[SPEAKER_03]: I hope I'm wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: I hope you're wrong too.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I hope we have to record again in like a week and a half because, you know, Jared Durran or someone like that caliber or better is now in a Philly jersey.
[SPEAKER_03]: We won't do the Taylor Ward as a Philly podcast.
[SPEAKER_03]: We might have to do the Reese Hoskins as returned to the Philly's podcast.
[SPEAKER_03]: What?
[SPEAKER_03]: Why?
[SPEAKER_03]: Um, no, I, there's no, like, truth to that in any way.
[SPEAKER_03]: That's just, that's a fun name that's out there that could be if the Brewer's decide to pack it up this off, or this, this deadline just because it's firing contract.
[SPEAKER_03]: He's having a good year.
[SPEAKER_03]: He's one of their most tradable assets.
[SPEAKER_03]: Also, he's, he, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_03]: My heart is like, oh, imagine him coming back to Philly and like it actually works out this time.
[SPEAKER_03]: That would be fun.
[SPEAKER_03]: My brain says he's a horrific defender and they don't need any more of that.
[SPEAKER_03]: But it'd be fun.
[SPEAKER_02]: You kind of broke my brain there a little bit.
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_02]: My turn.
[SPEAKER_02]: Flyers a month from now.
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, well.
[SPEAKER_02]: Maxim Chabanov signs.
[SPEAKER_02]: We do a two or three year bridge deal with Cam York and.
[SPEAKER_02]: Tiles and I go to training camp and.
[SPEAKER_02]: Jet Luchenko is him.
[SPEAKER_03]: he's got an even better number.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's all I got.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's it's hockey.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't have a lot.
[SPEAKER_02]: Any guesses on the Eagles that we can look back on?
[SPEAKER_03]: Um, expect.
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think how he's done.
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_03]: I just I think that's just perpetual like [SPEAKER_03]: What's the opposite of trauma, wishful thinking?
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, like, just that he'll probably do something else before training camp or at training camp.
[SPEAKER_02]: I would think so.
[SPEAKER_03]: I wouldn't pick Justin Simmons thing as dead.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that's timely going.
[SPEAKER_02]: Sixers, anything, do we even care?
[SPEAKER_03]: No, that this is, no, I don't want to talk about it.
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, about the union as we wrap up.
[SPEAKER_03]: My official prediction is that they with all of the guys playing internationally or being hurt at the moment.
[SPEAKER_03]: I think they cool off a little bit.
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think they're going to win the supporter shield.
[SPEAKER_03]: But I think they've done enough at this point that they're going to be like a top two or three team in the east.
[SPEAKER_03]: I just don't think they're going to win the supporter shield.
[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: What are you going to do with your month off aside from sleep?
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, where am I real job?
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, yeah, we're all doing that.
[SPEAKER_03]: Believe it or not, we are not getting to live the cushy podcast lifestyle at this point.
[SPEAKER_02]: Dude, like eight people on planet Earth get to live that lifestyle.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a farce.
[SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, a couple little trips here there, doing here, going there, stuff like that.
[SPEAKER_03]: Nice.
[SPEAKER_03]: See you at some point.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but the beach.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I keep getting tax messages from Dover.
[SPEAKER_02]: Dover in July is a terrible idea.
[SPEAKER_03]: That was again.
[SPEAKER_02]: It'd be different if it was actually a good race and it was like entertaining.
[SPEAKER_02]: But it's not so wrong.
[SPEAKER_03]: If we live within two hours of the Daytona five hundred, I would do that almost.
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
[SPEAKER_02]: If we live near Talladega, I'd go every year.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: But I don't have an Atlas or something and see the five hundred.
[SPEAKER_03]: Like if I live near that, God, God forbid, I lived anywhere in Indiana.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's over, so no.
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Listen, the discord's still going to be active.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like I said, if something crazy happens, we're going to jump on, but as I said, open the show.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to get harder as July keeps going for me to get guys on with me, and I know [SPEAKER_02]: Nobody wants to listen to me talking about hockey for an hour and a half.
[SPEAKER_02]: And we almost stared down the barrel of that today.
[SPEAKER_02]: Luckily, Tiles is able to come in despite some technical issues and break it up so that we only had half of a hockey show.
[SPEAKER_02]: Not to mention, you know, Kev does most of our editing.
[SPEAKER_02]: Kev does all our editing.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry.
[SPEAKER_02]: I said most, I was all.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's got a bunch of stuff coming up and I [SPEAKER_02]: I know he takes breaks with his other stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: I just feel like if we keep going every week through July, it's going to be the same show over and over, which is either me forcing a snake draft or me and tiles basically doing what we just did.
[SPEAKER_02]: But since there's not enough new news, we're just going to keep regurgitating the same thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: So instead, I'd rather refresh everybody take a break.
[SPEAKER_02]: And we'll come back in the beginning of August with like I said, first four episodes are going to be baseball centric post trade deadline where they're going.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to do at least one if not two college football previews and that one.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you're going to be on, you know, I want you asking questions or at least having an opinion.
[SPEAKER_02]: Otherwise, I'll just go.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then in NFL preview where I hope to have all five of us, maybe even a few more.
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'll guess there's no part like it starts to heat up again.
[SPEAKER_03]: You've got training camp, baseball gets real.
[SPEAKER_03]: It's really beautiful.
[SPEAKER_03]: Round up, fires are about to start.
[SPEAKER_03]: Sixers are asleep too close.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so that's that's kind of where we're at, you know, drop me a line mail bag at getemnextyear.com.
[SPEAKER_02]: Shoot me a text.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't have the number in front of me.
[SPEAKER_02]: My phone is being used.
[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, everybody enjoy the the the the month of July get out.
